#a lot of leftists need to confront this too (via @tikkunolamorgtfo)
i think a lot of liberals need to confront the fact that they don’t actually believe everyone should have basic human rights. a homeless person could call me every slur under the sun and i would still want them to have housing, food, etc. the belief that everyone is entitled to basic human rights should not hinge on whether you “like” someone or not. at that point the entire ideology crumbles.

#Remember when that Trump voter said 'He's not hurting the people he needs to be' #That's a scary proportion of people on the left right now (via @tikkunolamorgtfo)
also it makes me sad that so many supposed leftists think the answer to 'there is an imbalance in who suffers and who doesn't" is "redistribute the suffering to the people I don't like", not "try to make it so no one has to suffer"
It's extremely punitive-justice oriented but they'd have a ragefit if you told them how carceral their logic is

If we lived in a decent society we’d behead people like this

Absolute ghouls. People who see the looming water shortage as a profitable opportunity aren’t worth the air they breathe.

There are a lot of celebrities I love that I slowly lose respect for every day that goes by that they continue to (publicly) act oblivious to the weight they could hold against countless humanitarian atrocities going on all around us.
I’ve never been subject to mass public scrutiny the way famous people are but I know full well that the absolutely obscene amounts of money should more than make up for this occupational stress.
Bc it really gets to me that I can’t even hold a steady income or afford adequate healthcare/treatment for disability & chronic illness, yet I still feel sick-to-my-stomach guilt every 5-10 minutes just wishing I could do more.
Meanwhile rich people are like….exploring space and the deep sea for fun. launching cute new product lines and doing silly fun promos. traveling across the world and back real quick in their private jets. Certainly NOT feeling sick 24/7 wishing they could do more. Because they can absolutely do so much more but they don’t. And if it meant enough to them, they would. Period.

The fun part of digging into history from multiple different sources is that you start to piece together information about people across different eras, until history starts to feel like a massive crossover event involving surprise guest stars.
For example:
The book about Lincoln's Cabinet presents William Seward as the expected Republican candidate for the 1860 election. As they discuss his backstory I'm like, "Oh, he's Seward the anti-slavery New York Whig who influenced Zachary Taylor." And then they mention Seward becomes Lincoln's Secretary of State.
And I'm like
Wait a minute...
SEWARD'S FOLLY???
HE'S BEEN THE ALASKA MAN THIS WHOLE TIME???
An emergency trip to Wikipedia confirmed that he was. Which feels much stranger than it probably should, but in high school, all the Alaska stuff was presented as completely separate from the Civil War, so it's taken me a long time to put the pieces together. Still kind of fun to make connections like that, though.

I think the digital Guillotine is a great idea but I hear it would be more impactful if we focus on one celebrity a day to have maximum impact?
If so- who is making the list and where can I find it?

Some wisdom I found on Facebook which especially proves why billionaires deserve to be publicly executed in the most brutal way.
Fuck thoughts and prayers, we need policy and change. Vote for those who you know support the poor and the middle class, not those who are sucking off the elite.
Yes I am mad how did you notice??

And I don't know if I'm taking all these people wishing the royals dead too seriously- how much is just venting?
Hatred as a duty?
Tumblr's social justice culture sometimes seems to consider hatred of certain people and things to be a duty and an obligation for supporting oppressed people. For example, the seeming expectation to hate Harry Potter, not just JK Rowling, regardless of whether you actually give her money or not, with art and artist being considered completely inseparable. I find this obligation difficult to bear, but wonder whether they are, objectively, inseparable. I'm waiting on an answer to an ask for that. Or the expectation to hate the British royals, whom part of me is still sentimental about (some of them, mostly Queen Elizabeth II), as well as liking the aesthetics and the sort of fairytale fantasy of being royal, even though I don't approve of the institution of monarchy. The boundaries between hating the royals for their actions, and hating them for being too privileged and/or *representing* the British Empire and all its evil (idk about the idea of punishing people for what they represent), seem blurred here. I can't perform hatred, but part of me feels accountable for my very thoughts and feelings, and morally bankrupt, as though I'm betraying oppressed people, for even being in two minds about people and things that I feel expected to just hate. Liking things that you're expected to hate in any way at all seems to be met with rage. Part of me had difficulty making this post, feeling that I have to keep my true feelings secret.
