essentially an enormous part of the reason that online liberal spaces suck so much is that they are filled with people who believe it is "something right" to vote for mainstream Democrats, when in fact it's capitulation to fascism. The Democrats are not an antifascist party. They will not defend us from fascism because they don't want to. They will never provide you with the list of good things they claim to support. The only way to fight fascism is in the streets.

some more thoughts regarding Palworld
I'm actually beginning to wonder if the Pals that are so similar to Pokemon can be traced back to a freelancer or two. lots of freelancers were hired for the development of Palworld. while some Pals heavily resemble already existing Pokemon, they are kinda in the minority of the overall Pal designs, it has plenty of original designs
also wrt plagiarism accusations, I honestly think it's just best left to courts to decide in any potential lawsuits. not that tipping copyright holders for possible plagiarism is bad, but that's all it is. a tip. best to just let actual lawyers who study these laws to judge (and even actual copyright and IP lawyers will tell you just how freaking tangled copyright laws are) in the even of a possible lawsuit
#and while i'm in the camp that some of the plagiarism accusations towards palworld are a reach i won't lie#some of those designs fly far too close to the sun#like direhowl#'there are only so many ways to design a wolf' please look at the wolves in digimon i'm begging you#as well as wolves from other media#there are plenty of ways to design wolves. even the most literal down to earth wolf#i'm not a lawyer and i don't want to say for sure if i think direhowl is plagiarized but it's def one of the more uninspired pals#along with verdash#on the other hand i'd be interested in hearing from an actual lawyer whether splices constitute plagiarism or not#like ok i'll admit i like dinossom but i acknowledge it's a splice of already existing pokemon#shadowbeak too#love the design but i know it's just a splice of arceus and silvally with a gryphon spin#still that design fucks#i also kinda like the centaur ceruledge pals they look p cool#cmon pokemon give us actual centaurs#also if pocketpair do get hit with a lawsuit i really hope all they'll have to do is replace pals that look too much like pokemon#i'm afraid of a lawsuit scenario which is ruled in favor of TPC bc of potential precedents that could be set#that go on to hamper creativity and innovation#and the monster taming genre is already as monopolized as is by nintendo#other developers have been prying that control away slowly throughout the years and there's been a more general acceptance of other games#but there needs to be more#palworld#hazy rambles#also i do wonder if there could possibly be a day where palworld is released on a nintendo system#think about it#game has been selling like crazy and nintendo def wants a piece of that pie#and pocketpair would reach an even bigger audience#everyone would win in that scenario

Me: I want to contribute to society, but I want to determine how I do it and how much I do it.
You: If everyone gets to decide that, no one will collect the garbage.
Me: So you want to force people to collect garbage. Interesting.
The other day, me and a few others were talking to a teenage cousin of ours who had just entered the work force full-time. Incidentally, he had also just come back from his week of vacation. He was incredibly upset and near tears, saying that it is terrible how he has to spend every day working and his only "life" gets to happen in his designated 1-2 weeks off per year, and, in his words, "then you die."
A lot of the people listening in started laughing at him and saying that he needs to "grow up and get used to it." How brainwashed do you have to be to say these things, especially to a kid in distress? And especially when the kid is right? He is absolutely, 100% right.
We have so much evidence that this set up is not healthy physically or psychologically. We could absolutely find better ways to ensure things get done without making people feel like overused machines. Everything we do as humans should be about making our lives happier and easier so that we can enjoy this precious little time we have. Everything we do now is instead about making the select few happier while everyone else suffers.
Don't "grow up and get used to it." Keep that youthful feeling of injustice when you realize how unfair it all is. This is not natural. People made society this way and we can unmake it.

Only including people who were actually running and curated for the ones I could fit. Please choose carefully. We can fix America. People from other countries are encouraged to vote.
#yes that is prohibition party in the anti alcohol sense#they still exist and they want to ban all marriage via constitutional amendment and replace it with civil union

Fever came back, threw up again, imagining the most insane essay I could possibly write and the epigraph would be that Adorno quote about the moral/ethical imperative to never be at home where you are, Stefania Zahorska's article explaining how her "second/other homeland" was Europe, but not a physical place or geopolitical boundary, not even the concept around which h the postwar geopolitical boundary was constructed, but the Idea of Europe as an almost consecrated secular-humanist crucible of 'world culture', which she imagines as, uh, Paris for a fleeting moment in the 1920s; anyway it would take this, and discuss it alongside the development of diaspora as an analytical framework in Jewish studies (Boyarins et al.), parallel "toponyms that denote not space per se but constellation of evocative associations with the word itself to articulate an ideology or philosophy" devices in C/EE rhetoric from the 19th century through the Cold War (including Kundera's "Central Europe"), and just to be an asshole, Plato's Republic. It would take a lot of work and a lot of reading and would have to be a blog post because I have no idea how much if any water it would hold. However. It WOULD be fun
#stefania tag#how much of it would just be Negative Theology of Autocracy replaced by Negative Theology of Totalitarianism#except the things that are not those things constitute the republic of dreams etc

Third party voting is useless without ranked choice voting; it's mathematically impossible to elect a third party candidate. DEMAND RANKED CHOICE VOTING!
Whatever happens, two things remain true: 1. Trump might be distancing himself from Project 2025, but his Agenda 47, which is on his website, is basically the same thing. 2. Third party voting is useless without ranked choice voting; it's mathematically impossible to elect a third party candidate. DO NOT SPLIT THE VOTE.

Putting this as a meme so maybe y'all will actually read it.
Held: Under our constitutional structure of separated powers, the nature of Presidential power entitles a former President to absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within his conclusive and preclusive constitutional authority. And he is entitled to at least presumptive immunity from prosecution for all his official acts. There is no immunity for unofficial acts.
And this is why we cannot let Trump win another term: he now has complete immunity for any acts he "officially" performs as president. You thought he was bad before? Now he will have zero fear. He will do whatever he wants. And what he wants is outlined in Project 2025.

thinking about the weird religion i was raised in and i think i understand arcade gannon's whole deal now
#op#i could talk at length about why evangelicalism/fundamentalism/american_christofascism is evil and anti-intellectual#calling evangelical christianity a misinterpretation of the text assumes any of them have actually read the text#and if they have that they're coming at it with the intent to think critically about literally anything#and the venn diagram between constitutional originalists and bible literalists is a circle#would say 'people who think the constitution is a divine document that cannot be rewritten or replaced' but that seems to be most people#the more i think about it the more im starting to think i was raised w the bioshock infinite religion

Great Replacement
Aloha kākou. Did the Founding Fathers mean to include invading armies in the U.S. Census count? Every ten years a census count is done in the United States. The next Census is 2030 where residents of the United States and five U.S. territories and will mark the 25th population count in the United States; the first census count was in 1790. This population count determines Congressional…

Economics is not some occult alchemy only the elite can understand. That's propaganda to protect the status quo. "Socialists don't understand economics." No, socialists are the ones who DO.
I'm up to the "I dunno maybe children working 13 hour shifts is bad, guys" part of Capital and it feels important to inform people that haven't read it yet that capitalists in the 19th century were not by any means wringing their hands and twirling their mustaches about employing children to squeeze out profits, they were hiring "experts" to write newspaper articles for them, explaining how "well, the socialists have these big demands about an 8-hour work day, and taking Saturdays off, but it's actually just so complicated, it's too complicated for most people to understand, we just NEED to hire children for night shifts because the stamina of their strong, youthful bodies is the only way we can survive as a business! It's science, you see. Economics doesn't work like that, just ask our economics professors at Oxford. You CAN'T turn a profit only working people 8 hours! Trust the experts, they know. It's just so complicated..."
That exact infuriating cadence that you read in New York Times articles, in the Atlantic Monthly, in the WaPo and all the other bourgeois rags where "everything is so complicated, and it's actually a lot more complicated than you think.." that has been around since the beginning. It is nothing new. So the next time you see some op-ed from Matt Yglesias or any of those other guys huffing their own farts about how "complicated" everything is, and how "unrealistic" a 30-hour work week is, remember that Marx was dealing with that exact class of "intellectuals" "explaining" how working 13 hours at age 10 was "vital" to the "moral fibre" of those poor kids.

starlink pisses me off
the issue of its impact on astronomy and light pollution has been discussed a lot, and is a very real issue (i've noticed up to 10% of the frames i take while doing astrophotography being rendered unusable by starlink trails), but there's an even bigger issue
not only does starlink constitute the majority of active satellites in orbit, with over 6,000 already up and potentially over 30,000 planned, but these satellites are disposable
each satellite only has a lifetime of 5-7 years (not including satellites that prematurely fail), and re-enters earth's atmosphere and disintegrates at the end of its life, and is then replaced by newly launched satellites
it's also worth mentioning that aluminum from re-entering satellites forms aluminum oxide, which can damage the ozone layer and risks reversing the recovery of the ozone hole
and this is touted as progress, "the future"! the way we bring high-quality internet to anyone who doesn't live in a big city or a wealthy country. a gift to all humanity! (except elon musk gets to deny it to whoever he wants)
and it is literally unsustainable
the so-called internet infrastructure of the future relies on frequent rocket launches spewing carbon dioxide and black soot into the atmosphere, and disposable satellites that destroy the shield that protects all life on earth from UV radiation
the atmosphere is a global commons. orbit is a global commons. yet a single company owned by a single fascist billionaire has appropriated a vast swath of orbital space and filled it with infinite trash machines - without any international regulation. but bring this up in any space fan circles, and you'll be met with techbros screaming at you and calling you an enemy of humanity for not thinking that elon musk should be able to do whatever he wants without regulation
starlink isn't the future, it's a cancer filling our sky with trash (and i guess some people get kinda expensive internet along the way? oh yeah btw the poor people they're talking about starlink helping can't afford it)
anyway fuck starlink, they should stop launching these trash satellites, if you want everyone to have internet we should build more publicly-owned fiber instead

fitz sees the ease with which amity uses disguise spells and slips into character(s) and feels a spark of familiarity and doesn't know why. they respond accordingly.
