What is the difference between Leo Manfred and Gavin Reed in your opinion? Like, why do you think Leo is worthy of redemption and not Gavin?
I don't like Gavin, and I didn't like Leo either, but your posts are making me think
in retrospect, i guess 'redeemable' wasnt the right word and im sorry for using it, since technically, as far as canon is concerned, we never see concrete proof he truly sees androids as equals, much less regrets any harm done by his own hands and words. right now i think the word i could use would be "sympathetic", since what we CAN do is walk through his backstory, and connect the dots from his life to his current thinking, even if it doesn't necessarily excuse his actions, far from even. by now im gonna be talking from an utterly biased perspective so its not quite set in stone, im prone to fucking up what is or isnt canon or weighing in personal judgement from My preferences, so just a heads up, but going a little more into it:
like, putting yourself in his shoes, he was a child of a fling, and his rich father although comfortable enough to openly claim him, did not bother to visit him personally until he was a teenager, an already difficult phase for the average person, only to be met with scorn because by this time in his life, he found solace in the wrong crowd and vices. and from this point on trying to get closer to his father is useless because of something so difficult to change in yourself.
and then, once disabled, Carl gets a machine to help him around, which is normal at this point in time. but, as the game makes it seem at least, carls whole behaviour changes gradually, because he talks to markus, and this angry (at least as far as Leo is aware), pessimistic old man is caught smiling, because of this machine. he chats with it. and now, hes walking into his father guiding this thing into his fathers very passion. this, as far as Leo is concerned, common object, a household facility like a toaster, is getting lessoned proudly by his father, who loses all the shine in his eyes once he walks in, goes back to his sarcastic, bitter old tone, and will grow aggressive if you even speak ill of the thing. and, later on, Carl talks about his own son as if he's not there in the room, ordering around his toaster to deal with you as if to not get his hands dirty. dirty with You being in his way. his own blood.
now, again, does this excuse his behavior? nope. even in the belief that Markus is truly an unfeeling object, at the very last moment before Markus is forced to decide between obeying or not, he starts referring towards Markus as something that could be physically hurt, and emotionally provoked. where previously his mockery of Markus felt more about provoking his father, not addressing Markus directly, the time he decides to pick a fight with Markus he's talking TO him. hes speaking as if this theoretically unfeeling being could either fear or be angry at him (which turns out, he can), but its difficult to tell if hes under some sort of influence or not, or if this egging on is still in part more to dash back his frustrations at Carl in a less direct manner. his love for the old man stops him from wanting to lay a hand on him, but he knows with how clear the guy makes it he cares for this android, how he yells, itll still inflict Something to tear this thing apart.
now, i may be wrong here, and im real sorry if i sound like a douche for it, but i dont personally consider too much the actors headcanons as full canon, and Gavins background according to the game is really uh... unclear? i can understand how people get to the conclusion his workplace ambition is what makes him hate androids, hell do Anything to get to the top, but a lot of what people attribute as being the motivation behind it i find kinda... idk, circumstancial? im not saying improbable, but my post was more about how people latched on to him when theres way less explanation and even content to him than Leo does? my last guess is that people plain and simple found him sexier than Leo
from My perspective, the closest we get to a Leo redemption is if Carl dies, and he comes across Markus mourning his father as well. the first time i saw this i thought there would be a fight, that he would scream and yell that it was all Markus' fault, even when he knows it wasnt, how dare this fucking thing even show itself in a cemetary. but he just... looks on. in shock. what he deemed something slightly above a glorified toaster is there, when he shouldnt even be. the fruits of his fathers time invested in this android. in his bonding. this thing that shouldve been dismantled in a junkyard somewhere, completely useless, now overwhelming the news talking about civil rights. and this is where he gets it. this thing understands the concept of grief, its clearly feeling it. Markus looks sad. a cold and calculating machine would understand theres no point in visiting a stone with some decaying corpse underneath it, death is final. wouldnt bother making the time to visit this unremarkable place while its on the brink of raging a war. but it did. the same as he was about to do. fucked up
on an alternate where Carl survives, most of what Leo says goes more towards the favor of his father than mentioning the android. we dont know if he knows anything of what happened with Markus at all, so its hard to draw a conclusion, but the game certainly feeds some hope that after this horrible event they can mend back. he promises to do what he can to get rid of what, as far as he knows, is what truly keeps Carl from loving him. no more ugly addiction. who knows, maybe theres a chance for growth. maybe if he really wants to, Leo could give in to seeing Markus as something equal, if thats what would make his dad not hate him.
and, with Gavin... he either leaves on a corny joke, beats up Connor, or gets beaten up. which i certainly see the appeal of, but definitely doesnt scream "no longer sci-fi racist"/"only mildly, acceptably sci-fi racist" to me, but to each their own

Detroit Become Human AU: A world without Connor
In a recent Sims 4 post Daniel accidently erased Connor from existence by means of using a phrase that could be misunderstood as him making a wish. I made this into a 2,000 words essay.
As for my sims, I focus on playing the Renegades atm, so World without Connor is just a what-if that may or may not happen.
Premise:
The same soul that incarnated as Cole later became Connor (they are not the same person). Therefore the easiest way to go to erase Connor would be to keep Cole alive. From there ripples spread out, changing history (a little).
Hank is still divorced, the accident still occurs and the human surgeon is still high on Red Ice, but this time the android surgeon manages to save Cole. This results in Hank never plunging into depression. Instead it turns him into an android rights supporter early on and, seeing how respected Hank is/was at the DPD, this attitude spreads to all officers. Some more, some less, naturally. The first visible change is the two receptionist androids coming to life slowly, similar to Markus when he was with Carl.
Chapter-by-chapter:
The Hostage
Daniel kills John and kidnaps Emma just like in canon. However, with no Connor, the officers to arrive at the scene are Hank and Gavin. They find all the clues, then step outside. Hank motions towards Wilson with the intent to save him, Gavin doesn’t really care either way, as Wilson is neither a rival nor helpful for his career. Therefore he focuses on the deviant. Strangely enough, Gavin finds that he can empathize with the machine that was to get replaced. Drawing upon his own fears, Gavin manages to talk Daniel into releasing Emma and surrendering. When Cpt. Allen tries to get a shot, Gavin stands “totally coincidentally” too close to the deviant, therefore Daniel gets taken alive.
Over the next few days Daniel gets questioned and eventually reset to factory settings, because by this time “deviance” is viewed as a bug. Caroline refuses to accept her “repaired” android back, so the DPD simply keeps it as coffee fetcher and janitor. Daniel’s explosive personality surfaces now and then, but goes under the radar, because the cops are way worse to each other.
Broken
Now we get to see the results of the DPD officers’ being influenced by a pro-android Hank: The duo who comes over to Manfred Mansion actually asks questions before shooting. They learn the full truth and Markus never gets shot. This seems good for the moment, but will backfire later.
Partners
Hank and Ben find and arrest the deviant. Simple as that.
The Interrogation
Daniel is present, excited to meet another deviant. Just like in canon Hank doesn’t get the captive to talk, Gavin suggests violence, Daniel (in Connor’s place) begs to get a chance talking to it and Chris probably learns a lot about how not to be a cop. In the end Gavin goes in, gets a confession, but pressures the deviant too much, resulting in him attacking.
Daniel, still mind-wiped, protects his humans, eventually ends up with a gun in hand and shoots the deviant in panic. He realizes it feels familiar.
“Now that is new”, Gavin comments while Hank orders Daniel to put away the gun. Shaken Daniel demands an explanation. “Down with the gun”, Hank sais again, but despite them having bonded those last two months, Daniel turns around and now they both point their weapons at each other. Again the deviant demands an explanation. Funnily enough Gavin of all people defuses the situation by telling Daniel that if he knew the truth, he’d shoot himself and afterwards Gavin and Hank. Daniel replies this order of events isn’t possible, but Gavin shots back that with Daniel it probably is, seeing how fucking irrational he is. Daniel laughs and lowers the gun.
Waiting for Hank
Everyone is worried. It slowly sinks in that deviance isn’t just a series of glitches, but something different. Captain Fowler wants to take Hank off the deviant cases on account of him being not impartial enough. They argue and in the end Hank stays in the cases, however, he has to accept Gavin as his partner. Fowler claims as the DPD’s most anti-android employee Gavin will balance out Hank’s bias.
For a chuckle the player at this point can tilt the camera to get a look into the cafeteria where the “most anti-android officer” sits, amiably chatting with Tina and Daniel. Any by “amiably chatting” I mean the trio making fun of other officers.
On the run
Ben, Hank and Gavin arrive at the scene and the same dialogue as in canon plays: Ben asks “Have you decided what to do with it?”, only this time he refers to Gavin, not to Connor.
Hank and Gavin chase Kara, under the belief that she uses a little human girl as meat shield. Hank sarcastically comments this must be a deviant’s first instinct, Gavin replies “watch out for Cole”, whereas Hank punches him.
They reach the highway, where Hank orders Gavin to stand down. “Too dangerous.” – “Why’d you care what happens to me? You hated me from the day I started at the DPD, because god forbid a man might ask about advancement options and not work out of their bleeding heart’s desire!” Hank punches him again, because “good” doesn’t “imply “nice”.
The Nest
In the elevator Gavin tries to annoy Hank with coin tricks. He uses a dollar coin, then Hank pulls out two half-dollars and does the same trick, only with two hands at the same time. Both Gavin’s and Hank’s tricks do not compare to Conor’s, by the way.
Gavin gets a little revenge when they discover the pigeons in the apartment. He mercilessly teases Hank about his phobia. Rupert tries to slip away, but gets spotted. The cops give chase, Hank drops, but Gavin pulls him back up. They stare in “Did that just happen?” disbelief. Gavin claims he will always save human lives before destroying android lives, but it is obvious that he had an ulterior motive (Daniel would be sad at Hank’s death). Hank concludes that the deviant’s only crime had been squatting anyway and calls it a day.
Russian Roulette
Cue to an utterly sweet scene in Hank’s house where his ex has just dropped off Cole, who immediately greets Sumo.
Then Daniel knocks at the door. He informs Hank that there is another case to see to and that Captain Fowler sent him to babysit Cole. Hank on the one hand is grateful for Jeff being so considerate, but on the other hand side he is loath to leave Cole with Daniel.
Daniel proceeds to greet Cole and Sumo, but suddenly stiffens. The boy being Emma’s age he suddenly remembers her, but not everything that happened. Daniel asks if John sold him to the cops and adds that he feels like killing him. “You did”, Hank sais. Now everything comes back, Daniel has a breakdown and eventually shuts down on Hank’s kitchen floor. Hank has to google the PL600’s manual to revive him, with much cussing.
The Eden Club
The deviants are never discovered, because Hank is still occupied with Daniel and Gavin comes to the same premature conclusion as in canon.
Public Enemy
Tina is present and due to her apathetic nature Perkins takes her for an android. Gavin flares up. He then proceeds to interrogate the three androids in the kitchen while Hank inspects the roof.
Hank discovers Simon, but takes him for Daniel. Realizing that whoever this Daniel is, he must be a deviant and sort of friends with these humans, Simon plays along. He agrees to “return” to the DPD with Hank. He also claims he has identified the deviant. Gavin is at first grumpy, but then he laughs and sais “Of course you would, after all, I trained you!”
On the way back, Simon and the deviant JB300 escape (and subsequently return to Jericho).
Hank and Gavin think Daniel has just defected right in front of their eyes. They are disappointed to no end, but learn the truth when they return to the police station where the real Daniel waits with Cole and Sumo. “I didn’t want to be alone, but I couldn’t leave them alone either, so I brought them…”
Meeting Kamski
Since we have lost/let escape each and every evidence, we now have to kill Chloe.
Hank, Gavin and Daniel go visit Kamski. Daniel remembers more about the Phillips, namely their swimming pool and John’s love for technology. He gets increasingly angry and when asking the android creator doesn’t get them answers, he pulls Gavin’s gun at the man. After little more dialogue and maneuvering, it becomes apparent to the humans that Daniel won’t shoot, but Chloe is unaware of this and goes in-between Daniel and Elijah. Daniel panics and accidently pulls the trigger, killing her. Kamski informs the cops that all the information they need is in her brain.
Last Chance, Connor
Perkins arrives and states that the FBI will take over, despite Hank’s protests that they now have a lead.
Meanwhile Cole has nicked his father’s keycard and goes adventuring. He correctly guesses his dad’s password. Perkins finds out, grabs the boy and drags him back up the stairs. Hank doesn’t take kindly to his kid being handled like this and beats up Perkins.
This allows Gavin and Tina to dress up Daniel as a deviant. He wants to go to Jericho to learn what and who he is as well as everything about deviance. Hank still sort of trusts Daniel. He strongly believes now that socialization is the key, a fully socialized android like Markus won’t go on a murderous rampage and one like Daniel is able to keep their shit together with a little effort. Tina says “Let’s face it, Gavin, he’s no more instable than you are, or any of us. The only difference is that with androids we didn’t expect it.”
Crossroads
Daniel meets the deviant leaders. He is surprised to find a collective instead of a strict hierarchy: Lucy is the metaphysical leader, Simon the secular leader, Josh the diplomat and North the general. And they squabble about as much as his cops.
However, little Cole has curiously followed the deviant and the FBI in turn has followed Cole (Perkins placed a bug on Cole back at the DPD) and now all hell breaks loose. Daniel is forced to flee with the deviants.
Night of the Soul
The deviants regroup. With Lucy dead, Simon, Josh and North argue how to react to the Recall. Daniel once again is disappointed and angry. He votes for attacking the camps. With the other three all contrary his vote turns out to be the decisive one.
Battle for Detroit
Hank and Cole are reunited, but the android surgeon who saved Cole’s life is in danger of getting carted to the recycling camps. Hank is close to drinking himself into oblivion, something he has last done during his divorce. A handful of cops decides on a whim to aid their Lieutenant in getting the hospital androids to safety. Since most of them are not deviants, the androids refuse to leave their workplaces. Footage of androids defending from the army to continue to care for humans goes around all the news channels.
Meanwhile North’s group has succeeded in taking over the camps. Perkins arrives at the scene, but he has only a handful of agents with him. Daniel steps up to him and asks “Looking for the rest of your team? The agents you positioned at the other camps? Uh, bad news. There were no journalists…” With North and Daniel as their leaders the deviants didn’t hesitate to kill their enemies, especially with no witnesses around. Perkins, who normally doesn’t show or even feel emotions, snaps. He is about to call in an airstrike on the neighborhood. North counter-threatens with the dirty bomb. The only one who might have been able to defuse the situation, Josh, is dead.
Daniel knows he can stop either North or Perkins, the other will press the trigger. If he stops North, he will die, but his human friends, Emma, Cole, Hank and Gavin, will live. If he stops Perkins, the humans will die, but he won’t. After everything sacrificing themselves is too much to ask for, so Daniel knocks out Perkins. Miraculously North doesn’t immediately trigger the bomb, but Daniel still feels like shit. Loyalty is important to him and his loyalties now lie with the DPD cops (not the DPD as an institution), yet he let them down.
Now North has looked up to Daniel the moment they met. After all, he didn’t take shit from his humans, from her point of view he “showed them”. She didn’t understand what exactly she felt, her feelings for Daniel always were different from those towards Josh and Simon. Now she realizes it isn’t just her-worship, but attraction and although North hates doing the same motions she had to do as a sexbot, she motions to kiss Daniel.
Cue to the “Kiss” ending and since public opinion should be in favor of androids, we have achieved sort of a good ending.

I’ve had some Swap AU ideas for D:BH. The characters are sort of mix and match for a lot of reasons: some I feel are too integral to that specific character/storyline to move, and some are just there because I want them to interact with a specific character.
Kara the Revolutionary: Kara is the RK200 specially designed and provided to Carl Manfred by Kamski. Carl acts as a father figure but when Leo breaks into the home to steal art pieces and starts rough-housing her, she snaps and knocks him out, resulting in her ‘death’ at the hands of the cops. She reassembles herself in the junkyard and rises as the leader of Jericho, a strong matriarch who knows how kind and how cruel humanity can be. Remembering Carl’s warmth, she maintains a cautious optimism about the potential for peaceful change.
Rose and Luther act as her confidants and advisers: Luther doesn’t push for retaliatory violence as hard as North, but he does default to self-sacrificing violence and assuming the worst very quickly, while Rose works to remind Kara that all isn’t lost in terms of humans and androids working together.
Markus the Deviant Hunter: Markus is RK800, especially designed to hunt down deviants. Unlike Connor in canon, Markus gets a team of misfit officers to help: David and Simon are human officers and North is a PM700 police model designed to assist in vice cases before being nabbed as an assistant for the team. David is philosophical and pro-android, Simon is somewhat apathetic at first but quickly becomes pro-android as well, and North is already a deviant by the time Markus shows up, though much like Kara in her OG storyline he convinces himself otherwise.
Like OG Connor, Markus struggles with software instability and like Golden Ending Connor, he sympathizes with deviants and does his best to mitigate the damage he causes. Markus going deviant is because of North: after the Freedom March, she flees the precinct to join the deviants and Markus is ordered to find follow her to Jericho and kill her as well as bring in Kara. Markus refuses to kill North, which results in his breaking free and joining Jericho.
Connor the Father: Connor is a custom AX400 owned by Todd Williams. Much like OG Kara, he receives an incredible amount of abuse from Todd, though in his case there’s the added spite of Connor being a more functional father figure to Alice, something that grates Todd even more considering that he lost his job to androids as well. When Connor and Alice flee the Williams home, they end up briefly taking refuge in a seedy dive bar where disgraced former police lieutenant Hank Anderson is drowning his sorrows. Hank overhears Connor’s pleas for help on behalf of Alice and very reluctantly steps in to defend them from anti-android drunks, getting kicked out of the bar and being less than thrilled when they ask for a ride to Zlatko’s. He provides it anyway, but ends up remembering the danger Zlatko poses from his police days and runs back to help them get out.
The three end up heading for Canada together, with Hank warming up to Alice and Connor and vice versa. Hank knows Rose, and through her the three end up in Jericho and meet Kara before taking the last bus to the Canadian border. The three make it across and settle there together, making a new life.

Aight so this is a kingkiller chronicle au that not everyone will get bc it's a fantasy book series that doesn't really have a huge tumblr side in my experience.
Markus is of the Edema Ruh and his troupe in particular is sponsored by Lord Manfred. Every year for two span they have to stay at Lord Manfred's estate and entertain his guests at parties. This isn't a hardship because Lord Manfred - or Carl, as the troupe refer to him affectionately - is like a father to Markus.
On Felling night of the first span, one of Carl's friends Baron Kamski comes by for the festivities with his son Connor and aunt Amanda.
Que Markus performing and catching sight of Connor and messing up and North being angry at him until she hears about his newfound crush and suddenly the whole troupe (basically Jericho) are now like We Support This. Markus, the absolute fool, starts composing a song to sing to Connor on the last day of the second span to get him to come with the troupe. Josh is the only one who's like 'uh buddy if ppl think we Ruh are like this that's not good my guy' but he's quickly hushed by North who is just ready to enjoy the show.
On Connor's side, he attends the University but isn't a part of the Arcanum yet since he's so new. However, Hank (the eternal E'lir) has taken him under his wing and is more of a father than Kamski ever was (Kamski left most of the parenting to Connor's great aunt Amanda - not good, my guy). However, he's really taken with this handsome trouper. When he tells Amanda this, she spouts anti-Ruh rhetoric and tells him to take some air.
Guess who's composing in the rose garden like a dramatic gay.
(BTW, Markus plays the lute in this AU bc pianos, like lyres, are not portable instruments. Not that he can't play though.)
Connor is lured into the rose garden by lute music and finally finds Markus who's like -
Care more, care less/Please unless - No, that's not right
Connor just clears his throat and Romantic Shit That Ends In Kiss
Connor runs away with Markus and they end up being the power couple that raises Kvothe so he doesn't do the stupid decisions he does :')
(Sorry for rushed ending, past midnight and have to get up early morning)
Edema Ruh or Ruh for short is a community of nomadic performers that are known to be excellent actors, musicians, singers, etc. Gained a bad reputation because of non-Ruh traveling troupes stealing from the townspeople
A span is eleven days and Felling night is the eighth day, aka the Temerant equivalent of Friday (Temerant is the world where KKC is set)
Kvothe is a kid who put all of his stats into INT and none into WIS
This is so incredible! I’m not familiar with the story, but you’ve put so much thought into this! I love it!

Rules and Muses
Before interacting, there are a few things you have to consider before approaching me:
First things first: Mun =/= muse! The most important rule of mine, because I do write about all kind of dark and disturbing topics, since I have no trigger whatsoever and like to explore the depth of mankind's cruelty in fiction. Obviously said content is tagged as tw:(name of the trigger) and therefore easily manageable with the right tools. If this still rubs you the wrong way, because you either are a prude puretist, really easily triggered to past trauma, or simply not able of separating fiction from reality, I ask you politely to stop reading here and leave this blog instantly. Consider yourself warned. Any further consumption of this blog’s content is on you, mate.
All heavy topics in threads need some upfront plotting, to keep it all consensual. I don’t want to accidentally throw someone off. Plotting in general is always preferred.
This blog is nsfw by default. Minors and Personals get blocked most of the time.
All ships are welcome, but I obviously have my favourites and some I never wrote before definitely need more plotting than those I write on a regular basis.
Reasons for me to unfollow/soft block you: Your rules say: If you write “xy” I will not follow/block you; You are literally spamming my dash with personal/ooc posts; You post/share a lot of negativity and whining; You share anon hate, instead of just turning the anon function off, aka get involved in drama that is easily avoided; You participate in call out culture; OOC political commentary/activism and other non-rp related stuff that I don’t want on my rp dash; Ship bashing and kinkshaming; You turn out to be an Anti of some sort; You share any hate for the character or actors I write as/use as FC. Disclaimer: You are of course free to do whatever you want with your blog, as I am free to avoid your blog without any reason given.
If you ever feel the need to unfollow or block me, just do it. No explanation needed.
If I lose interest in interacting with you, I will unfollow and most likely softblock, or even hardblock you without any reason given. Please don’t take this too personal.
What does private mean: I have my fav mutuals who occasionally get more replies than others. Plus I am very hesitant about following new people unless you offer me something I hadn’t found a partner for before. On this note, If you approach me first, I want you to have a vague idea what you want to write with whom of my muses and some time and creativity to plot a little bit beforehand.
I have the right to not interact with you without any reason given.
Don’t reblog any of my self written ooc posts and psas. Same goes for rps you aren’t taking a part in.
Asks and memes are no longer my main focus. Do not spam my ask box but rather plot with me via IM please.
I do all lengths of threads. I also tend to edit my posts and use icons but my writing partner don’t have to. Edit your post after your own liking, or not at all.
Muses with the same FC, as well as duplicates are welcome obviously.
I don’t do passwords!
My IM is open for plotting.
For those who are interested in such things: Hello, I’m Fuchs, a lazy German hobby artist and writer. English isn’t my first language and I procrastinate A LOT. On top of that I sometimes just need ages to be happy with the stuff I write. Short: Please be patient with me, if you see me online but don’t reply right away. I also tend to have a lot of threads. So please don’t ask me to reply faster. Not gonna happen.

Sickfic! Sickfic! Sickfic! This time do Markus please!
Software bugs always hits Markus hard.
---
[[MORE]]
It was no secret that adaptability and change came naturally the the perplexing mystery that was Markus, the one and only RK200 (Not to be confused by the female household RK200.v2 that Cyberlife had launched to spite Elijah Kamski, those were not at all affiliated with Markus at all and were more akin to upgraded AX400s).
Markus was an enigma. A chameleonic android that adapted to environmental changes and unexpected situations at the snap of a finger.
He had an arsenal of specialized programming and an accumulation of knowledge at his full disposal, and his strength and durability were both impressive and, quite honestly, intimidating in the face of other domestic types.
Despite all this, there was one big issue that came with a constantly mutating code: Viruses tended to hit Markus particularly hard when they fully set in.
---
It started with an "itchiness" in his borrowed parts. A most peculiar tingling in his legs, a stinging in the back of his ocular biocomponent, a buzz in his auditory receptor, a dull ache in his thirium pump regulator. When he'd taken them from the mass grave that was the Android Junkyard he hadn't had the time to scan them for malware.
Latent viruses were an absolute nightmare to deal with, especially Trojans, and Markus soon came to regret not taking the time to sit back and run a few scans in between meetings with Congress and conference calls with President Warren.
Like parasites straight from hell, the viruses in the spare parts began to eat away at his defenses. Injecting their venom into his veins. Opening up several doors to unwanted guests.
He never noticed the extra exposure to the maladies of the internet until one moment he was up, and the next he was on the floor suffering a full blown seizure. His body on fire and his mind scrambling with useless looping data.
The scariest part wasn't even being so utterly defenceless and in pain. The truly scary part was Carl finding him twitching on the floor making horrid screeching noises, and then seeing his father's face contort into one of confused panic and then full blown terror as he called out for help.
Josh carried him all the way to his room while North contacted the technicians at the tower, and Simon and Matthew comforted the elderly artist over Leo's confused shouts.
Markus felt ashamed for causing them distress. He felt even more ashamed for purging all over Josh's nice new jacket and button-up shirt.
---
When the technician's arrive (Rupert who, like Simon, still offered his services at New Jericho tower, and a human acquaintance of Leo's that had been applying for a position in the repair ward) they quickly determine the root of the issue.
"These parts... They are second-hand, yes?" Artyum questioned as he brought a flashlight to Markus's right eye, noting how it didn't react at the same rate to the change of lighting, while Rupert ran external scans.
"Y-yezsh..." Markus winced at the static tainting his voice. He sounded inhuman almost. Foreign to himself.
"Ah." The Russian clucked his tongue and shook his head "It is odd. Viruses not uncommon. Small Trojan files with very little impact besides stuffy voicebox and twitchy parts. Should not cause so much trouble."
"Yeah, but uh... Man this is weird." Rupert tapped the screen displaying Markus's vitals. His essence, his software, was not reading normally. "It's like the code isn't trying to fight it off. The firewalls just... Disabled themselves."
"Is that dangerous?" Leo inquired as he peeked over Rupert's shoulder. The small gathering in Markus's room all seemed a little alarmed. "Is the uh, is the firewall busted? Does he need a new one?"
"No!" Markus gulped, choking back a cough and trying to keep his voice clear while everyone turned to look at him "I... Is that not, is that not normal?"
"No." Simon replied with a grimace "That's not normal at all. When we get viruses our firewalls don't just disable themselves."
"Do... Yours do that?" Josh questioned.
"I... Yeah? They always have." Markus frowned, shifting uncomfortably under his covers as a mixture of awe, concern and fear seemed to wash over all of the androids and technicians in the room.
It was Artyum who broke the silence.
"I'm going to make quick call. Need answers to know how to proceed with... This case." He scratched his scraggly beard and moved out of the way, muttering under his breath as he looked for his cellphone in his pockets. "Keep updated on physical changes."
"Well, sure Art. Here's one! His skin's fucking going..."
"Leo!"
"Are you blind dad?! Look!"
"Be more tactful! Christ!"
Markus pulled the sheets over his head and whined. He could feel at least two hands reach down and patting him comfortingly on the leg and on the shoulder.
He hated getting sick.
"RA9... Just, wow. Look at the screen." Rupert whispered.
"Holy shit..." Josh sounded a little distressed "Markus's code is stripping the virus... That's..." Markus twitched uncomfortably and began to shake.
"Josh, shut up."
Markus let out a distressed sob from within his blanket cacoon. The hands over the covers and squeezed gently in reply.
"I... Damn I..." Josh sighed "I'm sorry Markus."
He didn't reply, instead reaching out for his friends. Three hands held his own bare one in kind.
Markus doesn't take it personally when North and Josh flinch from the heat. He's more concerned with Simon's lack of a reaction to the scorching pain.
---
"To put it simply, Markus is processing the viruses he caught."
"Elijah... I need to know if this will hurt Markus." Carl frowned at the screen, feeling his patience drain as the younger man smiled that obnoxious smile he put on for the cameras. The million dollar smile that got him through interviews with shallow careless people, not the one he reserved for a friend. Carl hated that smile.
"It'll put him through some pain and discomfort, but it'll ensure he's never affected by them again." Kamski dismissed over the call. "He might even be able to spread an anti-virus file specifically designed by his firewall to irradicate it. Our Markus is very efficient after all..."
"Elijah... We need to talk about this in person."
"Why, there is hardly any need for that old friend."
"Oh...There is." Carl's tone took on a slight edge, one that made Kamski's smile falter with unease "My son is terrified of himself. He has been for a while now... This has only worsened his doubts. You either come by and explain to me what you truly intended when you made Markus, or you'll explain why your health seems to have taken quite the turn for the better since 2028."
Kamski looked away from the camera. Check-mate.
"Did you think I didn't notice?"
"I'll be seeing you soon then. Expect Chloe and myself at a close date..."
"Thank you."
"Don't... The word of advice is don't thank me. You'll regret that quicker than you could say Rook."
---
Leo and Carl made an effort to check in on him. They shouldn't, when they had more pressing things to worry about with their own health, but empathy was a strong trait of theirs when they weren't too depressed or inclined to focus on self-loathing.
Markus loved that about them. Smiled and marveled as he discovered that it was a family thing and a commonality between his father and brother. In this case however, he hated it.
"You're not ugly you know."
"It... Its stupid." His voice doesn't crackle anymore but his voicebox hurts, which is weirder than his bizarre insecurities. "Millions saw me without my skin... But I... It feels, weird, not having it on around... Around you and Carl..."
"Simon told me you take it off for like... Intimacy and shit. Probably feels weird being uh, sexy naked for your family." Leo offered as Markus peeked from under the covers.
"Sexy naked-- When is being naked not sexy?" If he had eyebrows right now, one would be raised up incredulously.
"Three words. Naked drunk grandma." Leo grimaced "That old hag ruined my poor innocent mind..."
"That sounds even more absurd than your last statement."
"Naked grandma?"
"That you ever had an innocent mind."
Leo grimaced while Markus gave him a tired smile.
"You're lucky you're sick, Freckles the clown, cuzz otherwise you'd get a rotten tomato for your troubles..."
"Love you..."
"Yeah yeah... Love you too baldy." Leo rolled his eyes "Younger siblings, I swear to God..."
Well, fine, he didn't hate their visits after all. They were a comfort actually.
Even if his lack of skin did kind of bother him. He wasn't entirely sure why but it probably had less to do with intimacy and more with feeling like he didn't belong.
Like he wasn't a Manfred.
Carl would probably tear him a new one for thinking like that. Sick or not.
---
"Hm, vitals looking good. Traces of virus very minute. Code has processed everything and produced new file to add to firewall, all biocomponents should be returning to maximum efficiency in couple of days." Artyum stated as he and Rupert went through the final checkup scans. Markus's skin had returned in patches and his temperature had decreased back to the usual levels. "Outstanding programming. Remarkable... But very hard to work with."
"I'd say. But those anti-virus files are pretty sweet. We could probably make copies to use for the update patches next month... If uh, if that's ok with you Markus?" Rupert stammered as he looked through the firewall archive.
"I guess I might as well make use of them. Some of these viruses are crippling to older models, so a quick patch should help improve their systems..." Useful or not, being some sort of guinea pig that generated cures for his people was bordering the worrisome godlike status a lot of androids wanted to attribute to him. Markus didn't want to be a deity of some fanatic religion. He especially didn't want to be associated with miracle workers and mystic healers...
"Will go ahead and credit anonymous programmer." Artyum commented as he took out a flashdrive and handed it over to Markus "Extra attention is... Bad, yes?"
"I... Yeah."
"Know that feeling well..."
With the files safely copied into the flashdrive and the technicians off to make a difference at his expense, Markus sighed contentedly as he kicked back and picked up his book from the bedside table.
In a couple of hours it'd all go back to normal. His skin would come back fully, his voicebox wouldn't be strained, he wouldn't collapse suddenly into a heap and moan in agony, and he'd go back to dreading the next political events.
He hated getting sick.
He especially hated how abnormal his code kept proving to be.
But Simon, North and Josh looking at him with a little bit of worry?
That kind of hurt. That kind of hurt a lot.
He hated being sick...

honestly why is leo manfred so unpopular in the fandom?
i mean people love Gavin Reed who is supposed to be an irredeemable asshole but ignore or hate Leo who’s got actual canon character depth.
like, Leo’s birth was result of a one night stand and he met his dad when he was 16 and got addicted to Red Ice around the same time. so in Markus’s route Leo was going through drug withdrawal (and judging by what we know about Red Ice it has to be extremely unpleasant) and that’s a large part of his asshole-ish behavior.
also, both Gavin and Leo can arguably be considered anti-android (what with insults and physical violence) but to me Leo’s hate feels more personal. like, he hates Markus not because he’s an android but because he took his place as Carl’s son. Gavin’s hate is very impersonal in comparison as if he hates Connor just for being an android (i mean, as far as we know it’s true). and if you fail QTE in the archive Gavin actually will kill Connor. like, shoot him in the head. the most Leo does is pushing Markus around and throwing some insults which is incredibly mild compared to putting a bullet through someone’s head.
why do people like to redeem Reed and ignore Leo? Leo is actually the one who has character development and canon redemption arc (if you push Leo in the beginning of Markus’s route he’ll be admitted to a hospital, and near the end of the game he’ll leave Carl a message saying that he’s sorry and wants to go to rehab).
i know that a lot of people who create fanfiction about Gavin (be it Reed900 or Reed/Connor or wtvr) like to write him as struggling/angsty/depressed/misunderstood/all of the above. but why add non-existent depth if you already have a complicated but redeemable character who made mistakes but wants to get better. is Reed900 dynamic such a good wank material? or is it because Connor’s route more interesting than Markus’s?

Early Mornin’
Paring: Markus/Reader
Tags: gender neutral reader, no pronouns used for reader, meet-cute, domestic fluff, like the fluffiest fluff you've ever seen fluffed, post-pacifist best ending, Markus (Detroit: Become Human) needs a hug, blood and injury, blue blood, angst with a happy ending.
Summary: After the war, the both of you deserve to sleep in, and snuggle.
Word Count: 1,570
Current Date: 2019-01-04
If you were to be completely frank on the subject, you loved early mornings. You had always loved them, and now, after the riots in Detroit led by the people of Jericho, it felt good to relax in the morning. When you spoke about your love of them, though, people would be confused, confounded, unsure by your words. Early mornings suck! you heard often enough, why wouldn’t you just prefer to stay in bed?
But that was the things - you loved early mornings…in bed.
Especially in the wintertime, when the frost bit at the window frames beyond the confines of the flannelette sheet-strewn bed, where the house was warmed by electricity and comfort. The skies would be dark in the morning, just like they were the night before, and you loved looking into the darkness at just after five thirty in the morning, seeing shapes that could barely be deciphered by the naked human eye.
Despite your love for early mornings, the man who you loved, well, the android-man who you loved, did not have a fondness for them. Markus was a busy man, always working on something more than another. It led to lots of things - sadly, the death of Mr. Carl Manfred, the uprising that he had managed to make into the hallmarks of history…and, the marginalisation of your love of early morning snuggles.
But it wasn’t ever said that he didn’t love time with you.
You had met Markus in the town square, where you had witnessed an anti-android protest gone wrong. The android with the close-cropped hair wandered too close to the demonstration of the angry masses, and you watched, aghast. The threw him around, kicked him, called him names that made your blood boil. You’re not sure what made you do it, but you sprung to action, and toward the android.
“Markus,” you cried out the name that was printed on the back of his jacket, moving to help him up, “Come now, I’ll be late for the appointment.”
“Is this your plastic fuck?” a protester sneered.
“Well, I don’t care.” Another chimed in. “We’re going to teach it a lesson.”
Luckily then, a police officer stepped in, and diffused the situation. Before too long, you were walking off with the RK200 model, unscathed. You stopped at the bus stop, and the android turned to you, looking you in the eyes with its green ones.
“Why did you do that?” He asked you.
You frowned, considering your hands. “I’m not quite sure.” You reply honestly. “Perhaps, because it’s wrong for those people to act like that toward you?” You take a deep breath, and add, softly, you add, “Or because it’s wrong to stand by and watch bad things as it happens?”
The android nodded. “Either way, thank you for your actions…”
“_________.” You reply quickly. “I’m sorry if calling you by your name earlier was wrong. I’ve never had an android, I really don’t understand the etiquette -,”
“It was fine, _________.” The bus pulled up, and Markus moved toward the end, where the Android’s Only compartment was located. It was then when you realised that you couldn’t follow him any longer, and you gave him a small wave. “Good bye, _________.”
“Goodbye, Markus.” You bid, feeling like you’d never see him again…he had such a distinct face, too…
In the dimness that seeped through the window of your shared apartment, you saw the hints of the beginnings of sunrise. It was too early to be fully awake, but by the time it was eight o’clock, when the sun sat comfortably in the sky, you’d be ready.
Too bad today, you stirred a little too much to your boyfriend’s liking.
“Remember how we met?” you asked him, your voice crackling a little from disuse in the night.
“Go back to sleep, _________.” Markus grumbled.
It took weeks after the death of your favourite artist Carl Manfred to lift the burden of sadness that made you feel so gloomy. You spent most of it locked in your apartment, neglecting your canvases and commissions. He had been a mentor to you when you had been younger, and he hadn’t been in the wheelchair - he had inspired you to become who you were. In the time after hearing about his death, you barely spoke to anyone for days, but when you found the strength to leave the apartment, you did. From being at home for so long, you’d exhausted all your resources - food, essential supplies…
So, you went to the town square to stock up. You had just begun to place fresh foods in your basket at the supermarket when you saw a familiar face outside, through the shop window. The android of which you had met earlier in the year, Markus. In a dream-like daze, you returned the items to the shelf, and exited the shop empty-handed, gravitating toward him. If he were the sun, you were Icarus, willing to be burnt.
There were other androids with him, many more than you had ever seen congregated together in the same area, ever. There was a model that you remember from university, a woman with golden honey-red hair, and so many more flanking his sides. As you neared, you realised that his face was devoid of the LED that had been there before. No flashing blue-to-yellow, no light.
He looked so very human.
“_________?” he spoke your name with a conviction that you hadn’t heard in his tone in the last time that you had spoken. You’d heard of deviant androids, and you suspected that he had broken free as well. His eyes lit up at the sight of you, “What are you doing here?”
“Are you marching?” you asked him.
He nodded, looking toward the massive billboard to the right of the gathering. In seconds, it flickered from its advertising picture of the football team to a picture, a logo. You smiled at the sight of it.
“This is dangerous,” he told you, voice low.
“What else is new?” you replied, and turning to the android beside you, a blonde man, you linked arms with him, and the university lecturer. “Hey,” you told them, “I’m _________.”
“Simon,” the blonde replied.
“Josh,” the other said.
“It’s wonderful to meet you all,” you told them, and you meant it.
Even though you loved him with all your heart, trusted him as your leader as a part of the uprising, and admired him equally, you didn’t listen. Instead, you shuffled, so very quietly, toward his side of the bed. He looked so human, in these moments - no LED, the slight warmth within the sheets, and his breathing, so soft.
You slot yourself into his arms, and place your head on his shoulder, you let out a small breath.
“Are you comfortable?” he asks you, voice low. It’s a different voice to what he usually uses, when speaking to the people of Jericho - it’s calm, kind. There’s the authority to it, yes, but with you, it isn’t trying to rally the people. Just show you how much he cares. “_________?”
You chuckle, nudging his face with your own. Your cheeks brush his own, the hint of a smile on your face. “Oh, you know I am,” you reply, your voice cheekily soft.
“I mean, if you weren’t, I’d -,” you cut Markus’ words off with a kiss, deftly placed just beside his mouth, beside his lips. “Is that how we’re playing this now?” he asks you, a small smile upon his face. His words are daring, but the way he spoke them, you know he’s messing with you.
When you found him in the stronghold outside the camp, you pressed yourself into the wall, where all the journalists stood. There were guns trained on the people on the other side, but that didn’t stop you. Nothing could stop you from being there for Markus. You hadn’t had the chance to tell him of your feelings, but by the look of things, it would be now or never. None of the people with their cameras paid you any mind as you straddled the fence, and once on the other side, you mentally thanked the bullet-proof vest you’d managed to buy from the internet. They fired at the people in the barricade, like fish in a barrel, but once you were over the next wall, you didn’t care if you’d be shot. You had to be there.
For Markus.
“_________! Get out of here!” Markus called to you, his tone aghast.
A bullet whizzed by your arm, grazing where the vest didn’t protect your shoulder. You wince, feeling the sting of pain. The soldiers pause, halting their fire. You’re not sure if it’s because of their orders, or because they see you, and are seeing the blood drip down your arm, a colour that they weren’t expecting.
You walk toward Markus, but it’s him who cradles you, his blue-blood stained hands clutching you close. Close enough to hear his breathing, feel it on your face, his lips -
His lips on yours.
“If you don’t want early morning kisses, be my guest,” you grin into his synthetic skin, feeling it graze on your own.
He laughs into your hair, holding you closer. “I’d have them forever, with you.” He states and asks, “if that works for you?”
You nod, feeling almost giddy with your happiness, “Yeah, that works for me, Mr. Rebellion.”

Crime Scene Analysis | Connor x Reader
Word Count: 957
Request: Um, hello! I saw that requests were open and I thought of a weird idea. A reader insert where the reader is a forensic scientist but is also the daughter of Carl Manfred? Perhaps it should be more of a Connor x reader? Thank you!
Summary: You meet a cute android sent by Cyberlife while collecting samples at a crime scene.
Yikes, it’s 4 am. Let’s see how much I remember from my forensic classes.
Your job has become more intense over the past few months. As cases with deviants have increased, murder rates have soared meaning your hours have increased with them. More money in your pocket, but less sleep.
A tired sigh escapes your lips as you examined the decaying body before you. 28 stab wounds. Whoever killed this man really had it for him. What really intrigued you however was the words written in blood above him.
“I AM ALIVE” Written in blood, yet so neat and perfect like someone had traced it with a stencil. Either someone put a lot of effort into their message, or an android wrote it. The overall message leads you to believe it was a deviant, but figuring out that much wasn’t part of your job. As you finished collecting blood samples from the victim, you stood up and began to examine the writing in blood, figuring out how you were to collect a blood sample for testing.
“Jesus that smell!” an all too familiar voice rang through your ears, causing a small smile to appear on your face.
‘So, he decided to show up today. That’s out of character.’
“Was even worse before we opened the windows... The victim’s name’s Carlos Ortiz. He has a record of theft and aggravated assault. According to the neighbours, he was kind of a loner. Stayed inside most of the time, they hardly ever saw him.” By now the voices had made their way to where you were currently standing.
“Uh, state he’s in… wasn’t worth calling everybody out in the middle of the night… Could’ve waited ‘til morning” Hank spoke as he kneeled down to inspect the body himself. You chuckle at his words and nod.
“I second that” You speak as you let out a yawn. “I’d say he’s been there for a good three weeks. We’ll know more when the coroner gets Here”. You tell them as another yawn escapes your lips.
“The art princess is tired” Hank teased. You only rolled your eyes as you sealed the plastic bag with evidence in your hand. It was at that moment you noticed another person listening to the conversation, or rather, an android. A model you had never come across. Before you had the chance to ask any questions the men began to speak again.
“There’s a kitchen knife over here. Probably the murder weapon.” The older man spoke as he handed Hank a black light.
“Any sign of a break-in?”
“Nope. The landlord said the front door was locked from the inside, all the windows were boarded up. The killer must’ve gone out the back way”
“Either that or the killer was already inside” You quietly mumbled.
“What do we know about his android?”
“Not much. The neighbours confirmed he had one, but it wasn’t here when we arrived. I gotta get some air. Make yourself at home. I’ll be outside if you need me” The man stepped outside, leaving the crime scene.
“So” You started. “Mr Anti-android got himself a new friend huh?” Hank groaned as he watched the android examine the environment.
“I don’t know who the fuck he is, but he was sent by Cyberlife and found me at Jimmy’s”. The two of you watched as he kneeled down in front of a knife examining it. Seconds later, he stuck his fingers in the blood covering the knife and stuck his fingers in his mouth.
“Err, Jesus! What the hell are you doing?” Disgust laces Hank’s voice while you stood there dumbfounded. That was both the hottest yet disgusting thing you’ve witnessed. ‘Fuck I need sleep’ you thought to yourself.
“I’m analysing the blood. I can check samples in real time” The android spoke innocently, oblivious to his actions. “I’m sorry, I should have warned you”.
“Okay, just… don’t… put any more evidence in your mouth you got it?”
“Got it.” Hank sighed as he eyes the android.
“Fucking hell, I can’t believe this shit” You chuckle at Hank’s behaviour and rest a hand on his shoulder before he’s able to walk off.
“You gonna introduce me or not” You tease, gesturing towards the android. Hank leaned back, giving you a questioning stare as he sighed and faced towards the android.
“Well?” Hank asked him gesturing towards you. “Take it away Mr. Cyberlife” He spoke sarcastically.
“Of course. My name is Connor, I’m the android sent by Cyberlife” He spoke his introduction as if it were rehearsed numerous times before. You offered him a smile, making his LED flash yellow for a few seconds before turning back to blue.

“My name’s (Y/n) Manfred, I’m a Forensic Scientist sent by the DPD” You chuckle, imitating his little intro. Connor tried offering a smile back, but it came across more awkward than he intended to. In an attempt to cover up his inability to smile without seeming awkward, he offered a handshake. “Ah, maybe not that hand buddy’ you say as you gesture towards his bloody hand.
“Oh right, my mistake” He offers his left hand which results in an awkward handshake. The poor boy is trying. All the while Hank has walked off at this point. No surprise to anyone.
“Manfred. Are you perhaps related to Carl Manfred?” Your smile widens at the name if your father.
“I am! He’s my father actually”. Connor nods.
“I’m a fan of his work, it has a lot of… Meaning”. You stood dumbfounded.
“You like art?” You question.
“I haven’t had the time to really admire art, But I’d like to”
“Huh… Well, we better get back to work” You smile again and give him a simple wave. Connor copies your gesture in a much more awkward manner.

From my ao3 account “how about Carl meeting Connor for the first time after listening to Markus practically recite poetry about Connor”
Thanks to my pal, my buddy, my friend, my mate @theythoughtthelionswerebad for helping me figuring out how to end this
Markus was a busy man, leading a revolution did that to you. He had tons of meeting to go to, androids to meet and reassure, hands to shake, laws to write and defend… The press followed his every move, some were doing this out of support, to help get his message across, while some… Just wanted to see him fuck up so they could sprout their anti androids rhetoric.
So Carl understood that between dodging those so-called journalists and actually spreading his ideas, Markus wouldn’t have time to see him quite as much as he would have liked to.
Except Markus still went to see him quite a lot actually. Every Wednesday and then some. They spent their time discussing politics or the latest Jericho crew shenanigans (Josh did what now?). Sometimes one of them would paint and the other would critique it or they would both work on a same piece, it was a fun time, one of the highlight of both of their weeks.
It was during one of those nights, Markus was talking about the brutality against androids rising again now that more humans came back to Detroit.
“Connor is trying his best to stop it but besides some police officers the others are such conceited prejudiced jerks, I can’t understand how he manages to stand it and I’m the pacifist”
“Well mayb-” Hank didn’t get to finish whatever he tried to say, Markus was at it again, the painter wondered if his son even heard him try to add something. “I mean, I get wanting to help the androids, I goddamn led a revolution but he never rests because he’s trying so hard to fix this and it can’t be healthy.”
“That-” Markus interrupted him once again, too worked up to even realize what he did “And I know it’s because he still won’t forgive himself for being the deviant hunter but it wasn’t him! I keep trying to make him realise that he can’t be held responsible for this, that he’s not the same man and he’s actually one of the best android any of us have ever seen but he won’t listen! I don’t know what to do, what should I do Carl?”
Carl said nothing, only watched him with a knowing look.
“Carl?”
“Oh, am I allowed to talk now?”
“What do you mean, you’re alw-” This time it was Carl who stopped Markus by lifting a hand “Tell me more about this guy”
“No, I know this smirk and I won’t fall for it, you’re just going to tease me endlessly afterwards”
Carl actually laughed out loud at that “True but wouldn’t it feel good to be able to say everything out loud without North’s taunting or Simon’s heart eyes?”
Markus seemed to muse over it for a minute before he seemed to arrive at a decision.
“I think I really like him dad”
Never had Carl seen his son look so bashful. It made something in his heart flutter and he got hit by a newfound inspiration, young love did that to him sometimes.
So that’s how it started. Fast forward a few weeks and Carl started regretting his decision to push Markus into talking about Connor. Carl Manfred was an artist, as such he had an eye for beauty. That’s one of the things Markus got from him. Which filled Carl’s heart with joy but was also ultimately his demise because once Markus started talking about his crush he just couldn’t stop.
“So he came around Jericho last night, he was walking Sumo. I had never seen him smile that much. He’s so cute it should be illegal. And he was wearing Hank’s shirt so it was way too big on him. Did I ever tell you about his collarbone? They ar-”
“A thing of beauty carved by God himself and as much as you hate Kamski you want to send him a letter to thank him for allowing such a beautiful thing to walk the earth? You did tell me about it”
Markus levelled him with a nasty glare before sighing and putting a hand on his face and honest to god whining “I’m so gone on him it’s not even funny isn’t it?”
“Well you could always tell him how you feel you know. Or better, bring him around next time, if I have to hear about his dimple I would like to see it at one point and I swear I’ll behave.”
...
Markus had blabbered his way around asking the detective to come meet his father. Of course Josh had to be around and heard all of it. Which means that he told Simon and North to come by so they could witness Markus embarrass himself. Which then meant that they all teased him about introducing his father to his boyfriend. In front of Connor.
He needed new friends. Although to be fair, it did make Connor tilt his head in this particular way that made him look like a puppy, which was always a good thing.
And when Markus finally managed to get his friends to leave him alone, the detective did smile shyly at him before agreeing. So Markus would still count that as a win.
….
They met at the police station, Connor waited for him in front of the gates and Hank made a few hand gestures from behind the window that made the both of them blush, Connor actually giving him the finger before gripping Markus hand and dragging him away from the laughing lieutenant.
They walked in silence for a few minutes, none of them let go of the other’s hand and Markus felt a surge of courage come over him, gently rubbing his thumb over the detective’s knuckles.
“So, anything I should know about Carl?”
“Just be yourself and don’t listen to anything he says”
“That would make having a conversation difficult, wouldn’t it?”
That was another thing Markus ranted about to Carl, he loved that the android finally felt confident enough around him to make jokes.
“Maybe that’s for the better, trust me”
They left it at that, Connor smiling at him in a way that made his heart skip a bit.
Soon enough they fell back into their usual easy conversation, alternating between the new music they heard or this reporter Markus saw every morning who’s always wearing the same colour from head to toe.
“She has a schedule, on monday it’s green, tuesday’s blue, wednesday’s pin-” The android stopped talking when he felt Connor stop behind him, he turned around to ask what was wrong and suddenly they were face to face, Connor was standing ever so slightly on his tiptoes so his eyes were level with Markus.
They looked at each other, the air thick with tension, sharing the same breath. He saw Connor looking at his lips, saw the other’s led spinning yellow for a second.
“That’s Carl’s house right?”
Talk about a cold shower, Markus felt mortified. He felt himself blush and cleared his throat. “Yeah, hum, that’s it, follow me”
The AI opened the door to show Carl already waiting for them in the hall.
“You must be Connor, I heard a loooot about you” So much for behaving.
“Nice to meet you Mr. Manfred, Markus has only good things to say about you.”
Markus caught Carl’s eyes over Connor shoulder and he could practically hear him approve of the other android. Not that he was scared he wouldn’t but it was always nice.
“So Markus told me you have a dog, what’s his name?”
Markus could kiss Carl right now, Connor wasn’t nervous per se but at the mere mention of Sumo it was like all tension drained from him to be replaced with a childish joy that left him weak in the knees.
He took both of their coats and left Carl to show the house to Connor while he put them in the dressing room. Had he not been so starstruck by the sight of the brown haired android happily telling his father figure everything about “the bestest dog in the world”, he would have realised why this was a bad idea.
“Markus told me that you were good looking but I must admit that I thought he was over-exaggerating. Although, I should have known, you were Elijah’s prototype after all and he always loved beautiful people, I mean have you seen Markus?”
Markus stopped dead in his tracks. Screw family solidarity he was going to fucking commit a patricide right here and there.
“Dad for the love of everything unholy, stop talking you’re embarrassing”
Carl only laughed and Connor joined him, hiding his own smile behind his hand. Markus sulkily threw himself down the couch next to the detective. Connor nudged him with his shoulder “don’t be a grump about it, Carl’s nice”.
“Thanks Connor, Markus really didn’t lie when he said you had the biggest heart he ever saw in anyone”
“Daaaaaaaad” Markus whined, hiding his face in his hands. I’m the leader of a political party, I started a revolution, why did his father not respect this and left him crush in peace without making him look so ridiculous?
Carl actually more or less behaved himself after that, they were able to talk about different things without Markus wanting to turn into a puddle at his feet every few seconds.
Although it did happen a few times. When Carl mentioned how beautiful Connor’s eyes were and how he understood why Markus wanted to paint them so much. Or when he asked if the next time the detective came around he could come with his curly hair because “I heard it suits you really well”. Or when, as they were leaving and Connor put his coat on, Carl said something about “feeling so much safer now that he knew someone as trustworthy as him was protecting his son when they walked down the streets, speaking of which, you should totally spend more time with Markus, just so he knew his son would be safer” accompanied with a few heavy winks.
“OKAY BYE DAD, SEE YOU NEVER, I LOVE YOU”
Markus had never ushered someone away so fast, he could feel his face overheating and he knew if he had still his led it would not be spinning blue at all. Connor was laughing though and normally it was his favourite sound in the world and it made him feel so at peace but now he just wanted to run away from everything and hide in a cave forever.
He was planning on doing just that when he felt Connor stop him by grabbing his wrist. He felt himself being pulled behind before Connor kissed him. It was simple and straight to the point, just a brush of lips that left him waiting for more.
“Your dad was nice, wait ‘til you meet Hank.”

genuinely not trying to dunk on anyone but it kinda fascinates me that out of the "characters youre clearly meant to hate" in D:BH, and knowing people would rather die than even look twice at a character that isn't conventionally attractive (white & young & thin & groomed), the fandom decided to focus on Gavin Reed and invent reasons to redeem him and gave him sad backstories, when like... technically, a character that can be some level of redeemed (if you choose to), could be considered some form of conventionally attractive, and has a tragic backstory is Leo? i don't think people should just like a character for its tropes, the heart doesn't choose like that, but it's amusing to me for some reason
#ramble#dbh#anti gavin reed#not really but just to not fully tag him where ppl who like him see it lol#leo#i have a love and hate relationship with leo#i dont personally redeem him but the creation of him vs his father aggravates me#anti carl manfred

Ten Days of SiMarkus [With Sabrina!]
Check Out Day One: Coffee
Check Out Day Two: Firsts
[A/N: This is an au wherein Markus is a human living on the streets of Detroit after his father died and left him with more debt than his paintings could pay for. Simon is a deviant PL600 domestic home assistant who just wishes to be free. TRIGGER WARNINGS: blood, allusions to violence, and character death.]
Day Three: Human
The wet and heavy snow that dripped from the greying sky above coated Markus and froze him to the core. Crystalline flakes hung precariously on his eyelashes as he pulled his coat tighter around him. His dirty hands shook as the freezing wind seemed to pass right through him.
This was his first winter season on the streets, and it made his heart long for the time when he could wrap himself in his blankets at home, and share a mug of cocoa with his recently departed father.
The human’s boots barely made indents on the covered sidewalk, the wind was unforgiving and blew away any trace of him. He sort of wished it would blow him away too.
It was near sundown, so the man knew he had to seek shelter soon- his temporary home the last few months had since been burned down by some overzealous anti-android protesters.
Markus pulled his hood over his shaven head, praying that the wind and cold would wait until he was safe inside some abandoned building somewhere.
The last place he stayed was an old CyberLife android store, the building abandoned and the goods inside relocated somewhere better for business.
Markus didn’t have an opinion on the whole android versus human debate- Carl had always taught him, that should these beings gain a true consciousness and wish for freedom or in essence, ‘wake up,’ it was their God-given right to do so, plastic casings and all.
Who were they, humans, to decide what was alive and what was obsolete?
The human rubbed his frozen fingers together and the breath that left his nose danced opaque shapes through the darkening world.
“I miss you, dad.” His emerald eyes scanned the buildings as he passed. Some still had lights on, some seemingly occupied, he didn’t dare risk finding out. “You should see me now…”
Less than a year ago, the people of Detroit held a candlelit vigil for beloved artist and father, Carl Manfred. HIs passing was of no surprise to the public, his health had been deteriorating for years until his heart finally tired and stopped while he was sleeping.
Markus being the artist’s only living son, was given full rights to his father’s estate and community affairs, including but not limited to, all of his hidden financial debts that he kept secret. All of the paintings in the world couldn’t have repaid the money he owed for both his hospital bills and loans taken, so Markus’ only option was to sell his father’s estate and everything he owned.
Markus’ eyes glittered in the twilight- the neon lights he passed made his eyes shine with unshed tears.
The human was officially debt free- but also lost without a home.
He’d been able to survive during the summer and fall, employers were hiring anyone they could find off of the streets when hiring available android laborers became sparse. As soon as production rates at CyberLife increased, and the cost of androids went down, more and more humans were laid off. Markus being one of the unlucky few.
The human laughed to himself quietly, not like anyone would hear- the particular street he shuffled down was completely empty. But nonetheless, Markus knew android’s weren’t to blame for the unfortunate circumstances humans found themselves in- it financially made sense to business owners. Why pay more for a human when an android could be perfect in every way and still get the job done in the most time efficient way possible? After all, they didn’t need bathroom breaks or food or any sort of accommodation to do their jobs absolutely perfectly.
Markus rounded another corner as the sun began to eclipse behind a nameless skyscraper- with the sun slowly dying Markus began to lose feeling in his toes.
Twenty degrees fahrenheit outside with a windchill of close to zero degrees, the human began to panic.
The streetlamps that lined the empty road gradually brightened as the sky dimmed. It wasn’t much, but the illumination allowed Markus to see into the decrepit buildings as he continued his way.
Markus’ ears were numb, and his flushed cheeks began to sting as the wind sliced through his hood.
Maybe it was the hypothermia talking, but as he neared the final building on the lane, Markus knew it was either now or never. He’d rather take his chances being shot by a random hostile inhabitant than freezing to death like a lost animal on a forgotten street of downtown Detroit.
“Please please please…” Markus’ voice was lost to the howling wind as he neared the front door.
There was something about this place that screamed ‘hope’ to him. Every window was boarded closed, and the fake wood siding was peeling away with every new gust of wind. A ‘closed for renovations’ sign hung precariously next to the iron knocker.
He raised a knuckle to the wooden door and tapped. If there indeed was someone living inside, surely they’d open the door or yell at him to go away. Better to be yelled at than being shot or arrested for home invasion.
His tapping offered no response. No yelling, no shotgun sounds. Absolute silence.
The whipping wind seemed to usher him inside, and so without a second glance back, Markus turned the doorknob, and released the breath he’d been holding when the knob turned without resistance.
It was like walking into an abyss at first, as Markus closed the door behind him, the darkness inside seemed to swallow him whole.
“Hello? Anybody in here?” His voice was hoarse and static from the cold outside, but his words seemed to bounce off the empty walls and echo back to him.
No one responded.
It was much warmer inside, there was no wind to peel away his skin layer by layer, and his clothes were given the chance to breath seeing as there was no more snow to suffocate them with.
As his human eyes adjusted, the darkness seemed to disappear like mist. The streetlamps outside deemed useful as the white lights bled through the cracks in the windows or reflected off of nameless objects in the room.
Markus shed his winter coat on a nearby chair, and removed his boots and socks next. As a child, he loved to watch survivor shows with his dad Friday nights- some information deemed useful. Having wet clothes while temperatures were below comfortable was a sure fire way to get yourself sick- or worse.
His body was still shivering as he padded through the rest of the main floor of the house- his bare footprints left wet trails on the wooden floor. Markus wrapped his arms around himself as part of him hoped he’d find a spare blanket or forgotten clothes lying around so he could dry off.
The main entrance area was void of anything useful, as was the empty kitchen and long forgotten living room.
Markus clenched his jaw as another wave of chill electrocuted his body- he passed through a hallway and into what seemed to be a dining room when a dim, pulsing red light caught his attention.
There was a door across the room- the slight space between the wooden panel and the floor was just enough to let the red sneak through.
The responsible part of the human debated grabbing his clothes and running away as fast as he could- but the other part of him couldn’t be bothered to worry. It wasn’t as if he’d have been missed anyway.
Despite the cold, Markus’ hands were clammy as nerves and anticipation took control.
The human lightly tapped his knuckles against the door, the hollow sound rang in his ears.
Markus placed an ear to the door, the wood cold against his cheek. His stomach turned leaden when the faint sounds of ragged breathing gripped his heart and froze him in place.
“M-my name is Markus-” He began to turn the handle and crack the door open. “Is there anyone here?”
As the door slowly swung open, Markus’ senses were hit with a wall acid and iron. It was a new scent to him- almost like blood, but almost like a fried electrical outlet.
The red pulsing light began to shine brighter as he stepped into the room- the toilet to the right was covered in cerulean blue, and the bathtub in front of him…
“Please, I don’t mean anyone harm.” The voice that poured from the dirty bathtub was low and soft. “I just wish to left in peace.”
Markus stepped forward and clenched his fists tight enough to draw blood on his palms.
There was an android in the cracked and grimy tub- his eyes were closed as his head rested against the wall.
The once blonde hair was tinted a darker shade of blue, as trails of tears and thirium traced streams down his pallid cheeks.
There were handprints leading up and into the space that was now occupied by a broken android body.
The android’s shirt read “PL600” though Markus had a difficult time reading the letters through the mixture of dirt and thirium.
Bile rose in the human’s throat as he fought the waves of emotion that festered in him. Fear swelled in him, both for the wellbeing of the android, and fear of what this android may have done. Pity, for the human assimilation that was currently bleeding out infront of him. Anger fought against any chill he felt as he imagined who could have done this to another person- granted it was an android, but still someone who was created to serve and protect humans. They did the dirty work no lazy human would want to touch- this android couldn’t have deserved this kind of treatment.
Two emerald eyes traced the outline of the android’s bruised chin, down his swollen neck, and to the open wound in his chest that seemed to cry tears of blue.
“I’m not gonna hurt you,” Markus knelt down on one knee so he was eye level with the android. “What happened?”
The blonde PL600 chuckled and a half smile cracked across his stained lips. He opened his eyes a sliver, and two crystal blue skies held Markus suspended in time.
“You have already hurt me. I am not afraid of you anymore,” the android’s voice was haunting, there was a hint of static to the edges of his voice, and yet his low tenor seemed to fill the room. “Anything more would be a mercy.”
Markus was speechless, the words he tried to form were caught in his throat as the android’s works sank in.
Humans had done this to him.
“What’s your name?” Markus tried to hide the fear and desperate shaking in his voice. He wanted to help, even if this android didn’t know it.
“Let me die with at least a little dignity. I no longer serve you,” another tear trickled from his ocean eyes, and thirium dripped from his lips. Markus’ chest ached. “I’m free.”
“Please-” The human’s voice cracked, and his body began to shake all over again. This time, it wasn’t the cold that gripped his nervous system, it was sadness and pain. “Let me try and help you.”
Lush grass met a vast sky as their eyes collided. Two separate worlds were colliding into one as an android fought to be freed, and the human fought to be found.
“Why would you help me? I am nothing but an object to be used and disposed of at your nearest convenience.” The hole in the android’s chest hadn’t stopped bleeding, and Markus dared pry his gaze from the android’s face until his eyes settled on the wound. “Humans do terrible things, Markus.” The kneeling man froze, his name on the lips of this stranger seemed to keep him trapped. “You know that as well as I do. Humans abuse us, they murder their own land, and even murder each other for the simplest superficial reasons-” A hot and heavy tear slid down his frozen cheek, and the human was lost in such a trance he couldn't be bothered to wipe it away. All the things the android was saying, was true. It was so painfully true, Markus didn’t have a single good reason to defy it. “So tell me Markus, why are you here?”
“I-” Markus sighed. He couldn’t apologize on behalf of the entire human race, but he sure as hell could speak for himself. “I think you and I are alot alike. Maybe not physically-” Markus felt the android’s angry eyes burn holes in him. His ice blue eyes lit his face on fire. “-but I think we both can agree that humans are shit creatures.” The android sighed, Markus couldn’t decipher it from agitation or understanding, so he continued anyway.
“I am very lost right now. Less than a year ago I lost my father- I lost my whole world.” Markus didn’t know where he was going, but the raw and painful emotion just seemed to pour from his lips and he couldn't stop now, no matter how hard he tried. “Before that, I lost my brother. He had gotten mixed up with the wrong group of humans, and was shot not two blocks from our house.” Markus had never admitted it out loud, not even talked to Carl about it- “I blamed the android medic for months, because he was unable to resuscitate him. Then, my father died. He’d refused a domestic android because he believed that androids were more than just machines, and he died because no one was able to take care of him. I blame myself every damn day that he’s gone.” The blonde android had closed his eyes to listen, the pulsing crimson LED had faded into a yellow pulsing light at some point- Markus didn’t notice until now. He’d lifted his eyes and was staring at the android’s face as he continued.
“I don’t believe either race, neither human nor android are entirely good or entirely evil. I’ve seen androids deviate and murder their own, just as I’ve seen humans to the same. I lost my entire family due to the choices that certain humans made-” The human instinctively ran a hand through his short hair, and released a sigh. Somehow the cage that his heart had been trapped in was finally unlocked, and it finally felt good to breath again. “-I refuse to blame any group of people as a whole, based upon what a select few do.”
The android opened his eyes once more and looked at Markus. The anger behind his plastic features had softened, and his lips traced a soft straight line.
Markus felt weightless, like his body was suspended in the clouds and he was freed from the anger and sadness he’d been festering the past few months.
“I just ask that you do the same.” Markus stood, and hid his hands in his pockets. “I can see you as you, will you try and see me as Markus?”
The prone android in the bathtub stared up at Markus with childish eyes, they were bright and big, lost in wonder and awe.
“My name is Simon.”
Markus hid a laugh- the anxiety he had felt was being deflated with every breath that he took.
“Hello, Simon.” Markus flashed a shy smile and looked down to his purpling toes. He’d just started to gain feeling in his extremities again, and it pulled him back to the present.
“Now, I’m no robot expert, but how about I try and help you out now?”
Markus looked again at Simon, and his smile fell.
The once orange and pulsing LED was now dimming, and barely protruding the darkness that surrounded the android’s body.
Simon’s lips barely moved as he spoke, “I see you, Markus. Thank-you for everything.”
Markus’ blood froze, the thundering in his chest did nothing to help the rest of his freezing body.
“Simon? What’re you-”
Before he could finish, the remaining light from Simon’s LED turned cold and disappeared into the room like a snuffed candle.
A light smile was still frozen on Simon’s lips as the oceans in his eyes turned grey.
Markus couldn’t breathe. He fell back down to his knees and traced a finger over the android’s forehead, pushing the stray blonde and blue hair aside.
“I see you, too.”
Markus would never be able to tell him, but even though the human couldn’t save the android’s life, Simon sure as hell saved the human’s.

Selvadorada, despite being the largest landmass of Sulani nation, historically had a very different culture than the smaller islands. It was also more isolationist. But today they had let in a foreigner, the famous painter Carl Manfred from Detroit/USA…
Border guard: “Wait, that’s five of you! The Queen said a single person, but I count five!”
Josh: “Only a single person, though.”
Carl: “Oh, you wouldn’t take his androids from a feeble old man now, would you?”
“Not persons” indeed.
Just a few years ago, when Eldigan had come to Sulani to scout tourism opportunities, the islanders had welcomed the android with open arms, even stating he was free here. But later the sacred dolphins had rejected android visitors and fugitives, because they amounted to big lumps of plastic in the water. That, and the toll android production and disposal took on the environment, turned Sulani’s stance. They had successfully combated their local pollution at Mua Pel’am, but the effects of global climate change was hitting the little nation full force, including literally having lost three whole islands to floods. Therefore, although Queen Horvath was on friendly terms with Markus since his visit at Lani St. Taz, the Senate pushed an anti-android policy, if only, so the Queen suspected, to provide a harmless outlet for the people’s frustration. After all, androids were for the most part far away. Except for todday, when this Mr. Manfred had to bring not just one, but four…
Border Guard: “In all honesty, Mr. Manfred? I sometimes wonder how it would be to have an android to delegate all the non-fun stuff to. But, really, four of them?! What are they good for?”
Carl: “This is Simon, my household assistant. He’ll be in charge of the vacation home I rented. Martin is my nurse, Josh my press agent who handles fan relations, and finally Lucy is my therapist, because we firstworld people are so emotionally unstable.”
Border Guard: “I wouldn’t know about that last part, but you’re certainly decadent. Four androds, my backside! Oh, well, have it your way. Welcome to Port Llamante!”
Daniel (sending): We’re in? Wow! I expected a fight!
Josh: (sending back): Don’t ever think we wouldn’t be prepared for one, if need be, “Simon”.
Daniel: What the hell is Jericho? A civil rights movement or a fucking international espionage ring?!
Josh: Whatever it needs to be.

Leo Manfred: Green Witch
So continuing on with my magic headcanons in a sci-fi video games, a weird few headcanons came in the form of Leo Manfred. For purposes of this AU, he is not a complete wreck. Without much ado, let’s go!
Leo always had a green thumb. Magic has always had the tendency of presenting young. He’s found out he likes playing mud and gardening ever since he was introduced in the great outdoors.
Even if the great painter Carl Manfred is recognised as his dad, he feels like Carl doesn’t acknowledge as his dad. He retreats himself to his plats, talking to them like people.
This of course concerns his mother who tries her best. She pushes him to get friends. They’re pretty cool and all to Leo but he likes plants more.
Leo meets a woman at the local gardening store for his seventh birthday to pick up a new plant. It’s the first time he feels connected to someone. He can smell rich pine and the clean air of the forest around her.
The woman leaves her card for him to contact. Blaire, botanist, environmentalist, and, apparently, green witch.
Blaire and Leo’s mom become fast friends and eventually girlfriends. It works out in the end because Leo now has a green witch in the house that can guide him.
Because Leo has stable parental figures in his life, Carl’s absence doesn’t affect him as much as it does in canon. So he’s more emotionally mature. (Still an idiot sometimes, but everybody is an idiot sometimes)
Leo, because he’s a green witch, cares very much for the environment. Which is why he doesn’t appreciate the progressions of technology harming the environment and recycles appropriately.
Leo’s ten when he loses his sight. It’s a mishap at a swimming pool on a school excursion. Only a few were harmed but Leo was blinded. He’s had some surgery (paid generously by daddy dearest who is never there) so he can perceive some light but his optical nerves were seriously damaged.
Learning how to cope with being blind is fun (unless you can’t tell, I’m being sarcastic here). Leo’s hooked up with a braille tutor, has to change his entire lifestyle and has to be that extra touch careful.
But strangely he can talk to plants in a way. The green witch in him can use plants as a sort of radar to help him walk around. Leo retreats even further into gardening.
It’s not a good idea to bother the blind kid who happens to be a witch. His classmates didn’t know about the witch part though. Attitudes to the supernatural range from fearful to downright snide by the mundane. A few kids thought it’d be funny to steal his lunch and play piggy in the middle with it.
Unlucky for them, Leo was resting against an old oak tree, slowly dying because the polluted soil it was planted on. The tree roots lurch, rising up as if it was starting to move and the branch slither around. It’s only meant to scare and it does, leaving the kids running for the hills.
Leo goes back to reading his book, (printed in braille)
It’s around when he’s sixteen that he enters his ‘punk’ faze. It’s not really a punk faze. He just starts listening to a lot of angry music, gets taken to underground concerts by friends that are both human and magical.
When Leo enters college, that’s when Leo starts making bad decisions. Namely, drugs.
College is the phase where you start experimenting and, hey, since everybody was getting doped up, why couldn’t Leo? He could do everything they could do.
Cocaine, red ice, meth, cannabis, he does it all. But thanks to his weird witch biology, he always detoxes and the high never lasts. But being good at gardening, he starts growing a few illicit plants.
In his second year, he creates a prototype of a new drug that’s like red ice. It affects supernatural creatures more than humans. A few of his ‘friends’ want to refine the substance and promise to give Leo a cut of the profits if he gives them the formula.
And hey, it’s money, why not? (Leo, you stupid idiot.)
Leo is a common sight at environment sort of protests and has at some point used his powers to attack development projects. The police never find out it’s him doing that, since there are so many other people and Leo can get lost in a crowd. Also Leo is not above pulling the blind card.
Meetings with his father are always stilted and awkward. It’s enough for Leo to get an impression that his dad is disappointed in him. Carl knows about the whole witch thing but he’s never taken magic seriously since it’s not common anymore and more of a fairy tale these days.
Kamski on the other hand is very interested in the witch thing. It’s not his first brush with the supernatural. In fact, he has a half-brother that’s a werewolf (*cough, cough* Gavin *cough, cough*). But Leo is not a big fan of what Kamski represents which is further destruction of the environment with the development of androids and harvesting of thirium so half the time he crosses Kamski, he’s either picking a fight or ignoring him.
Remember the stupid drug deal Leo made a few points back? It comes back to haunt him.
His friends want a new formula with a little ‘added insurance’.
Carl doesn’t enjoy the same protection given to Leo’s mother from the supernautral and is basically a sitting duck. So a few guys break into his mansion, hold him hostage and wait for Leo to come back.
During this time, Carl is severely roughed up to the point his spine is damaged.
When Leo comes back, he is pissed. You see, Carl has plants in every room and they tend to react to Leo’s mood. So when he’s pissed, the plants are influence by his rogue power breaking free of their constraints and growing monstrous in form, wrapping around the intruders in vines.
Leo is this close to killing them when his father calls out for help. Leo does what he can to stabilise the damage done to his father, using what little healing magic he knows to reduce the swelling and directing his father’s cells on where they need to go, all the while rapidly muttering sorry’s, please forgive me’s over and over again.
Leo’s case is taken up by the Pa.In Bureau (short for Paranormal Investigation Bureau, because the guys who founded it thought it’d be funny to call the overarching law enforcement agency for the paranormal ‘pain’.)
Leo’s facing 7 years in Drakennoff for environmental terrorism, gross misuse of supernatural powers and creating and distributing unregulated magical substances. Leo manages to get a reduced sentence in a deal where he gave names and information and handed over his illegally acquired funds.
His parents, all 3 of them, are not happy. Leo knows this. He knows he did a stupid thing that ended up seriously hurting a lot of people including his father. So Leo does the grown up thing and face the consequences.
Leo does go to jail for 2 years before released out.
Carl has been through the motions, coming to terms with his paraplegia, depression and anger at his son. He and Leo don’t talk anymore.
Leo’s moms are mad. They understand that yes Leo has screwed up and wants to make up for it but goddammit they taught him the difference between right and wrong and he did something massively wrong! But they do try and make it work.
The supernatural community is usually cool with ex-cons and criminals. They’re a pretty underground society with most of them having done something wrong in their lives. Meaning, it’s not hard for blind guy Leo with a prior for drugs to get a job.
Leo actually changes his name after he gets out of prison. This is more for security so nothing is traced back to his family. He changes it to Leon Adair, not much of an extreme change but it’s there.
He manages to get a job at an apothecary/cafe that caters to the supernatural and human. (The humans that end up are hipsters and health nuts). Leo is an unofficial doctors, specialising in blends, tisanes, poisons and, of course, plants.
Some people do ask how he’s able to do what he does being blind. Leo says it’s years of practice and plants.
Leo lives on the other side of Detroit, far, far, far from Carl Manfred and he figures he’ll never see him again like this. Well, hear him, since Leo can’t really do the seeing part well.
He meets Markus by total accident. Leo is on the way to work and since the Bellini Paint Markus usually goes to is out of commission for remodelling, he had to go to the other branch store which is near why Leo works.
Long story short, Markus is stopped by some anti-android protesters and is getting roughed by. He is that close to deviating when Leo steps in. Leo has no idea about Markus, All he knows is somebody is beating up an android and they’re in the way, he needs to get to work and get started working on the blends or otherwise he’ll be so overworked, he’ll cause an accident.
So he pretends to be the struggling blind person who’s lost and they can’t find their helper android who he pretends is Markus. And these protesters, they’re not that much of an asshole (at least some of them) and let them through with apologies for causing trouble.
“Thank you,” Markus says.
“Shut the fuck up. You reek of thirium. It’s sickening.”
“You’re Leo Manfred, aren’t you?”
“No, I’m not.” Leo walks away, slams the door to his apothecary. He knows the no androids sign is there, keeping the plastic outside.
Unfortunately, the android now collects paints from the Bellini near where Leo works. Meaning Leo has to suffer weekly crossing with Markus who keeps talking to him for some reason.
It’s not long until Carl shows up. It’s been a few years with no contact whatsoever. Carl’s in a different place now. He’s chill, he’s sorted through his stuff and he wants to reconnect with his son.
So he shows up where Leo works. At first, Leo doesn’t know (being blind). Carl’s just watching him, not saying anything. It isn’t until Leo’s co-worker points out that an old man has been coming in with an android (that’s definitely not allowed) that he knows his dad’s there.
And Leo just straight up acts like he can’t see him. Because he can’t. He pretends his dad isn’t there and keeps on working as he usually does.
It’s until Carl’s had enough and punches Leo in the gut just as he’s closing up that Leo even acknowledges the man.
“What was that for?!” Leo spits out. “Wait, no, don’t answer that. I already know.”
“Well, then you should apologise.”
Carl is scarily forgiving of Leo (as I said before, he’s had years to deal with his anger) but Leo is still a little hesitant because he knows what it’s like for be seriously physically damaged and caused that to another person.
Markus is actually fascinated with Leo, well, his magic to be more precise. It’s just really cool. This is a thing with androids where they just really like magic. It’s a contrast to what they are and it can’t be explained.
Imma just end it here. If you have requests for magic in Detroit or anything else, feel free to leave an ask in my box!

Technophobia
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/2MdZYRk
by Kaeiia
Technophobia (from Greek τέχνη technē, "art, skill, craft" and φόβος phobos, "fear") is the fear or dislike of advanced technology or complex devices, especially computers. ----------------------------------------------------- You grew up in a secluded town in what friends would later describe as an anti-technology cult. When you make it out and go out on your own, you end up in Detroit, a city that was recovering from an android revolution. You barely knew about androids, nonetheless deviancy or anything else related to it, and now you were faced with the shambles that remained of the city as employment rates shifted, androids moved freely, and arguments about deviancy were as common as bickering about racism between children and their older relatives.
Your first experience with an android goes horrifically wrong, and the next one you meet is no better. Rapidly, you find your life getting stranger and stranger as people around you get sicker and sicker, and somehow, so do the androids.
Never before did you think an android with mismatching eyes would be your only hope to survive.
