i hate the way people talk about skincare discourse on this site bc like the reasons people use skincare products are pretty varied and not always just vanity or buying nonsense products that do nothing bc tik tok said so.
but based on the average tumblr user’s take on it, that’s exactly what you would think. every skincare product in the world is a lie and everyone who buys them (ie: most people) are idiots who are throwing their money away on nothing, but if only those poor idiot babies knew the secret: that any and all skin issues can be solved by simply drinking water and wearing sunscreen.
believe it or not, most people are actually not dumb idiot babies who will keep buying expensive stuff over and over that doesn’t do anything for them! and women (primary market of skincare products) are not brainless, self absorbed bimbos who only care about vanity! there are actually a lot of reasons why someone might use a serum on their skin such as being in pain or itching caused by overly dry (or oily!) skin.
like yes we can talk about how the non-beauty related reasons for buying skincare aren’t really pushed by its marketing (except for acne, which even then is framed as a beauty concern and not something that can cause a lot of pain and discomfort), and we can talk about how that leads them to manufacture new bullshit insecurities to get people to buy their products, and we can talk about how social media is pushing this marketing to an ever-younger and younger audience who probably have no real need for any of these products. yes, we can and SHOULD talk about all that.
but just framing people who buy skincare products or have a skincare routine as vain, insecure idiots whose experiences aren’t real and just love throwing their money away on useless shit is not helpful to anyone and also just blatantly untrue
your skin is an organ. there are a lot of reasons to be concerned about it besides aging and beauty. like can y’all try to have even an ounce of nuance when talking about this shit
#star rambles#i didn’t spend years finding the perfect concoction of creams and serums to make my face not feel like it’s on fire#for some dipshits on tumblr to tell me i just need to drink water and wear sunscreen#ie: the same unhelpful bullshit ppl told me when i had cystic acne all over my whole face that was causing excruciating pain#like go fuck yourself if you say that shit to people honestly#skincare industry#skincare discourse#anti skincare#beauty industry#skincare#beauty

I don’t have time to explain this, but I’m pretty sure by 1. That thing he does with his mouth and 2. the shape of Carlos’ teeth that he grinds them. Which makes me think that he wears some sort of retainer/mouth guard at night.

This was me with eye makeup, until I stopped wearing it when I learned that I was autistic because it was a major cause of sensory discomfort. And let's not even talk about makeup removers. Those burnt so much. All day when I wore makeup my eyes would burn and I was thinking "oh well the other folks who wear makeup are just better at bearing it than I am" and then on the evenings as I cried my eyeballs out removing said-makeuo I never thought for a second that I might be ALLERGIC TO THE SHIT
One absolutely hilarious part of human existence is the repeated incidents of spicy bananas. People who have lived their entire lives up to this point just assuming that a specific fruit or vegetable is supposed to taste bitter, tangy, or spicy, having no fucking idea that all this time, they've been allergic to this plant. Because how would they have known? You learn what things taste like by tasting them, nobody's going to tell you that bananas are supposed to be one of the mildest flavours out there. And people already eat so many things that taste hot, bitter, tangy and tart! Because they like how that kind of thing tastes like!
You can just happily much on a plant, thinking "ah, this angry plant tastes sharp because it hates me. Much like all the other sharp angry plants that people eat because they like the sharp", and it wouldn't cross their mind to think that the plant just hates you, specifically.
#also not talking about how applying face cream on my face daily made my acne so much worse because my skin can't stand it#actually I stopped putting cream on my face when I was really sick because I just couldn't. and then after I recovered it was like oh what#where did my acnea go#where are the pimples#so then that's when I thought maybe i should just leave my face as it is since NOT doing my anti-acne cream routine seems to work SO MUCH#BETTER

How to Choose the Best Cream for Your Face
Choosing the best cream for face is a crucial step in maintaining healthy and radiant skin. With a plethora of options available, it can be overwhelming to determine the most suitable product. Understanding your skin type, concerns, and desired outcomes is essential for making an informed decision.
Identifying Your Skin Type
Accurate skin type identification is a fundamental factor in selecting the appropriate facial cream. Common skin types include:
Oily: Characterized by excessive sebum production, leading to a shiny or greasy appearance.
Dry: Lacking moisture, resulting in flakiness, tightness, and sensitivity.
Combination: Exhibiting both oily and dry areas, often with an oily T-zone and dry cheeks.
Sensitive: Prone to irritation, redness, and allergic reactions.
Addressing Specific Skin Concerns
Once you have identified your skin type, you can focus on addressing specific concerns. Common skin issues include:
Acne: Characterized by pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads.
Hyperpigmentation: Dark patches or spots on the skin.
Wrinkles and Fine Lines: Signs of aging caused by a loss of collagen and elastin.
Dryness: Lack of moisture, leading to flakiness and tightness.
Key Ingredients to Consider
The ingredients in a facial cream play a crucial role in its effectiveness. Some essential ingredients to look for include:
Hyaluronic acid: A potent humectant that attracts and retains moisture.
Retinol: A vitamin A derivative that stimulates collagen production and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
Niacinamide: A form of vitamin B3 that helps to brighten the skin and reduce inflammation.
Salicylic acid: An exfoliant that helps to unclog pores and reduce acne.
Antioxidants: Substances that protect the skin from environmental damage.
Choosing the Right Product
When selecting a best cream for your face, consider the following factors:
Your skin type: Choose a cream formulated for your specific skin type.
Your skin concerns: Select a product that addresses your particular issues.
Ingredients: Look for creams containing beneficial ingredients that align with your goals.
Texture: Consider your preference for a light, hydrating lotion or a richer cream.
Price: Determine your budget and choose a product that fits within your financial constraints.
By carefully considering these factors, you can find a facial cream that effectively addresses your skin needs and helps you achieve a healthy, glowing complexion.
