Confession:
"In my opinion Lucifer doesn't deserve to be the most popular RC li. Cain is wayyyy more good looking, well written, and iconic in comparison so he's more worthy of that title. Lucifer is just too bland compared to him."

As much as I love Adam for a few fun parts of his character and for what he could have been at the hands of a competent writer (as shown by the fanfics where he gets properly developed)...
I feel like he (and the way he's characterised) is what broke Hazbin hotel season 1 pacing, Lucifer's character and the show's overall atmosphere.
Tumblr media
(Long and packed rant under the cut, because I've been having these thoughts since I saw season 1, and I want to share them. Viewer discretion is adviced)
Before Adam existed (pilot era) it was all simple and worked more properly: a story about the hotel and its inhabitants, and most importanty, redemption. It was a small snuggly location with a few characters in the center of a plot
Heaven was in the background and kept as a mystery. Moreover, from what we've seen in the pilot, Lucifer was obviously a background villain or at least an anti hero, one of the real obstacles for Charlie to overcome on the way to her goal (instead of a minor inconveniece resolved in a single broadway song)
But when Adam and his weird obsession with murder broke into that perfectly cut out premise, everything just shattered. Too many themes got weaved into the short story of the 8 episodes: Heaven vs Hell politics, overlords, war, Charlie's conflict with Adam, the seraphims...
All of that pushed the hotel and the redemption to the background instead of Heaven.... in a cartoon that's named after the hotel. Because 8 episodes is not enough to talk about politics, a war and a 6 month redemption course (the latter even happened behind the screen with only some verbal hints given about the amazing secretive progress the hotel guests made that we were not allowed to see!)
(Had this cartoon stayed indie, there would have been a possibility of making more episodes and tackling more themes properly. But big name broadway actors are more important than that, it appears)
Back to Adam.
He is not even a good villain. He really should have been more of a background antihero. Give the man some sedatives, for f's sake! Where did all that rabidity even come from, after centuries of living in Heaven? Honestly, he'd be expected to act calmer and wiser than how he actually did, especially with how old he is (as old as the earth itself). But instead it's like he got frozen in a state of a dumb jock bully from high school
Imagine if Adam allowed Charlie and her hotel guests to prove that redemption is possible, out of principle, or curiosity. Hell, maybe even allow him to threaten to kill them, but not straight away! Later, after they fail to prove him wrong! If that's what Adam's role had been, the hotel part would have gotten time to breathe and more spotlight
All Adam did in the series, was:
1. make a lot of excessive noise
2. do dumbass things (and it wasn't even explained WHY he's the way he is, not even a single flashback or his own musings and thoughts shown, which makes all of his actions fall flat in every sense)
3. break the remains of logic (Heaven looks plain dumb because of him, not able to tell sinning from non sinning and to judge human souls properly. It's not even corruption, since Adam is not that important or benefitial to Heaven, an actual archangel like Michael could have been leading exorcists in his place and do a better job.... it's just stupidity)
And then Adam just died, for nothing and with no consequences.
I mean, straight after Adam's death Lucifer is immediately trying to divert the viewer's attention: "who wants pancakes? :D". It's like the cartoon itself doesn't care that the first human, one of the most mysterious beings in vivzieverse and someone who badly needed a second chance and therapy, just died. By a very stupid joke too (Niffty didn't even have to stab him).
In short, Adam's plotline is a huge waste of screen time...
And while his final smile to Lute may give us some hints that there's something good inside Adam, but it's more akin to mockery. Since we were never shown that there's more to Adam besides "the main character's opponent=ultimate bad"
And of course Lucifer was retconned into a pathetic uwu boi, who's depression and "silliness" have overshadowed the fact that he practically doomed humanity to a life full of pain, suffering and surviving and took away Adam and Eve's home. We don't even get the slightest glimpse of what exactly Lucifer DREAMED of that was so important to force him to do the humans dirty. Meaning it was something abstract and not thought-through anyway.
(Free will my ass.. Adam and Lilith did as they pleased in Eden without the free will, Adam ordering his wives around, Lilith being able to defy him and Eve being able to disobey God. What good did "free will" from that fruit even do them? If anything, it only did harm to everyone)
And so now this daft egotist is being portrayed as this selfless harmless character only for the sake of contrasting the painfully obvious bad evil that Adam is.
That comes off as black and white writing, fit more for a childrens cartoon, despite the show critisizing Adam for thinking in black and white terms. Not a good look

we need more movies and tv shows about the Supernatural/Heaven and hell to have an anti devil agenda again
I hate that it's become the norm for tv shows and movies when it comes to the supernatural genre to now shove a pro demonic message instead of an Angelic one
as a writer who happens to be a Progressive Christian, this is my vow, to make anti evil stories popular again
people like me still have morals and we're sick and tired of how the genre has taken a disgusting turn

I am truly struggling with the Lucifer series. I am literally getting by with watching a single episode a night but it's become such a chore. I just have so many problems with it so this is going to be a complete ranty negative post. Open at your own risk.
Lucifer is becoming less off a fun asshole and more of just an asshole asshole. It feels like he has no deep developement, like he's the same selfish dick he was in the first season except he shouldn't be because he's had no ends of lessons that should have helped him grow. But nope, he cares for Chloe but will still ignore and insult Maze or belittle Dan and put his own problems above Amenadiel and Linda and pretty much everyone else and so on and so on.
The romance between him and Chloe is so damn boring. I hate the will-they-won't-they at the best of times and this show seems to be doubling down on the trope twice as hard in all the worst ways. Every time Chloe and Lucifer have a new problem, I swear I want to ram my head against a wall. It's literally become a case of even when they're together and happy, I'm so sick of them.
Maze has the same twist every damn season. Like, seriously. How many more times is she going to betray Lucifer and side with that seasons antagonist? Her reasons may vary slightly but at the end, it's like clockwork and while I still love her and have great sympathy for her character, it's also still stupidly repetative.
The Dan hate is getting old too. I've never liked the trope of one character constantly getting kicked down on and despite Lucifer's nickname, Dan really isn't that bad a person. And if he is, it's only because of sympathetic circumstances pushing him to be. It was one thing when it was just Lucifer making fun of him but ever since Season 3 with Pierce, it feels like Chloe and everyone else is always smirking behind his back as well and it's just makes me dislike all of them.
On another Dan note, his treatment to finding out the truth is gross compared to the others. When Linda and Chloe found out, Lucifer was careful with them. He gave them space but was otherwise gentle because he understood how intense this information could be for a human. For Dan, he decides to try and make it worse by pranking him with a snake? Even Chloe, to me, is digustingly cold about it. She knows how scary it can be but she doesn't even try to reach out to him during this time. She's more concerned with Lucifer messing up her case than calling him out for pushing Dan during a sensative time? I dunno, it seems a bit sexist to me that the women got coddled and allowed to be emotional about it but the guy gets made fun of.
The only thing I'm looking forward to at this point is Eve returning and marrying Maze (I saw spoilers). But even that isn't going to be done all that well because with only one season to do it, we're not going to get any real development and build between them.

TW: assault/abuse/true crime
I just realized something so sad. I was thinking about why so many women are into true crime, and feel it’s usually cuz they’ve had men do so much creepy shit to them, have had to practically become psychology experts to protect themselves, and get a sense of solidarity from other people who have similar experiences.
It’s canonically know that Sam Winchester also likes true crime (pretty sure Dean even makes fun of him for it in one episode, calling it something like “your murderer podcasts”) because he’s also has a man do horrible creepy shit to him. And that is why I will never, ever stan SPN’s Lucifer.
Maybe this was obvious to everyone else, but I feel like I’ve never been able to explain why so many women love true crime till really thinking about it this morning and then this thought hit me.

When I found out there was a show based of the Lucifer comic I was excited for like 3 minutes until I saw it was a show about cops. Kind of funny that there is a show about the devil working with the cops but I don’t think the creators get that.
I know, right? TBH when i first watched it I didn't think the cop thing was so bad, but honestly, nowadays, I'm like "why tf would Lucifer, whose whole thing was rebelling against an authoritarian god, help an organization that is just as bad!?"

He could have it at Diavolo's castle or whatever, specially with MC, a fragile and curious human around -_- Like "omg why did you touch my super mega cursed album of a thousands painful deaths??" "WHY DO YOU HAVE THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE??"

*In the library, with the Anti-Lucifer League..*
Satan: Alright time to make plans to absolutely ruin, and destroy Lucifer. Got any plans?
Belphie: We could put a curse on his pillow so he'll end up having nightmares every time he sleeps.
Satan: Ok, not bad, not bad. Mc? How about you?
Mc: Glitter.
Satan: Wha? Glitter? How is glitter supposed to ruin Lucifer?
Mc: We explode him with glitter in his room. Not only will it be a big hassle to clean off, BUT he will find glitter everywhere, everytime. Because once glitter gets on something, it never leaves. It will also keep finding random places to appear, he'll see glitter for centuries, hehehehe.
Belphie: ..You devilishly little sheep~
Satan: Alright lets do it!

Your mischievous giggling makes Lucifer sigh, looking up from his paperwork, he stares at you as you make your way towards him.
"MC, if this is for the Anti-Lucifer League, think wisely about the consequence-"
Laughing, you boop his nose, (obviously saying the word 'boop!' as well while doing so, which leads you to more giggles) before giving him a soft quick kiss on the cheek and sprinting out of there cackling, knowing the Avatar of Pride won't chase you.
He will find you at some other point in time but that's a problem for future you.
In his office Lucifer smiles softly, touching his cheek gently, he'll get you back for the nose boop though. Just who do you think he is? Some lovesick idiot?! For you, he is but that's besides the point
Even though Satan and Belphie definetly will not think so when you tell them, you'll consider this 'prank' a win for the Anti-Lucifer League. (Even though it wasn't even a prank and you jut wanted to kiss your pretty boyfriend)

It's so important to me that we all understand that hell and heaven in the Hellaverse aren't like two separate territories with equal power in a war that heaven happens to be winning.
Hell is a territory that Heaven rules.
Lucifer may be the king, but that is a position he was given by Heaven, because they have the power and authority to place people in charge of Hell,
And it's all well and good he WANTS to do better as a ruler. That he takes it seriously, or did at one point and/or is coming around to it again in the show, but its a possition with only as much power as Heaven wants to give it, and they want it to have less power than the General of Heaven's army, because Sera listens to Adam before she listens to Lucifer.
Lucifer, an Archangel, doesn't get to make demands of heaven. He doesn't even try. He gets to ask Sera to please stop the genocide of the people he was told to watch over. He gets to concede when they say no. Because heaven just gets to say no, because they get to decide what happens in hell without taking into account the opinions of Lucifer, or the seven sins, or the goetia or anyone in hell.
We all get that right?
That Charlie and the other's defending the hotel wasn't just the citizens of hell going up against an invading army. It only counts an an invading army ans not the occupying force because they don't actually stay there year round
Hell didn't just win their first battle in a war that's been raging for millennia. That was the first time hell organized to fight back against their theocratic dictatatorship- if not ever, than in millenia.
That was act of rebellion.
That was Hell declairing independence.
