Let's spread some love 😘. What are some of your top five favourite cs fics?
Oh, Nonny... This is so difficult!!! There are so many incredible fics out there. So here is a list of the first five that came to mind because I rarely stumble on one that I don't love...
(1) @kmomof4 has a host of incredible fics. (It is kind of fun reading her backlog because her first few fics include author notes along the line of 'I am not a writer, but I had this idea. I will probably never write again' but she has 39 strong CS fics. I say all that to say... her recent Bridgerton-inspired fic A Mistress to No One is at the top of my list.
(2) @the-darkdragonfly was one of the first CS authors I read and I have yet to find a story of hers that I don't instantly fall in love with. I love her voice and style so, so much. She is single-handly responsible for my love for Will Scarlet. My current favourite of hers is Tempest - be warned it is incomplete-ish (it is a rewrite of an older story), but kudos and comments feed the muse... so, go read it and let her know how amazing it is.
(3) @nachocheese-itsmycheese will break your heart, bring tears to your eyes, and have no mercy for you while she does it. And, if that doesn't make for some amazing fics... I honestly don't know which of hers to recommend. Read them all? Currently, I cannot get enough of Between Waking Life and Our Dreams but that Darkness Series is also so good. And, I cannot forget the Captain Cobra story...
(4) @hollyethecurious and @winterbaby89 also have an entire bookshelf of amazing fics. Their joint effort Dark Hook Comes to Storybrooke is bloody brilliant.
I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT I HAVE ALREADY REACHED....
(5) @donteattheappleshook is another of my first CS fic authors and, again, has a host of incredible fics for you to read. Not Broken at All is one of my favourites of hers, but seriously the other ones are so, so good that it is a favourite by the finest of margins.
But, seriously, this misses so many fantastic authors and amazing stories...

We as a society do not talk enough about the fact that Killian was helping Henry pick out a tie.
Like, did Henry ask him to come to the loft? Did Killian come to the loft on his own to help Henry since his mothers were missing? Was this a preplanned thing or a happy coincidence?
I wish we got to see the little moment(s) that led to this point. Did Henry ask for Killian’s opinion on which tie he should use or did Killian tell him that he could help? What were they doing the in the loft before this moment?
Also, why were they in the loft and not at Emma & Killian’s house?
Anyway, here I am, how many years later, digging for more.

@himedachi said (inbox):
Killian is having a staring contest against Khasar, to see which one will react or give up first by averting their gaze… and not caring that Khasar’s master is just around the corner to watch the silent bout between the two (beasts).
KHASAR WASN’T QUITE SURE what was going on with this horseman, but he continued to stare back at them without so much as a blink. Aside from his tongue poking past his lips to lick his muzzle, there was no other movement from the hound aside from that. Meanwhile, Jianyu watched the exchange with a raised brow, also not quite sure what was happening or why Killian had decided to engage in such a silly game with a dog of all things. Sometimes, there was just no figuring out what was going on in his little brother’s head. ❝Killian,❞ he eventually said, eyeing the two for a moment before turning his gaze back, ❝is there…something you hope to gain from all this?❞ Like if he won, was he going to give a victory shout? Wiggle those equine ears with content as if he had just accomplished something groundbreaking? The thought was amusing, Jianyu had to admit, but still…was there even an end game?

MORE of your house of colour ted talk please, that was really interesting to read!!
Oh my gosh, I'm so happy you enjoyed my mini TED Talk/crazy person rant in your tags.
For those who don't know what the HECK I'm talking about, I reblogged this fantastic little gif set and went off in the tags about how lucky we all are that Colin O'Donoghue happens to be a winter.
So for those unfamiliar, everyone fits into a color palette or season, according to House of Color, which came about in the eighties and is based on color theory. The idea is that based on your skin's undertone, hair color, and eye color, you fit into a "season" of color. You're a spring, autumn, summer, or winter. Spring and autumn are on the warm end of the color palettes, and summer and winter are the cooler seasons. Think warm oranges in fall and bright, sunny greens in spring. Bright blues and berry pinks for summer, harsher whites, blacks, blues for winter. Makes sense, doesn't it? (Honestly, it took me a long time to understand it all, but once I did, it kind of broke my brain and I can't unsee these things. 🙃)
Well, I make the case that sir Colin O'Donoghue, our dear Captain, is a winter. And we are so damn lucky that he is. Do you know why? Because winters are the only season who can truly pull off black. 😎 And true red, actually! Because of the high contrast between their features and their cool undertones, winters look amazing in high contrast, vibrant cool colors. Those colors don't wash them out like they would other seasons.
Let's get down to the photo evidence, shall we?
Here we see Colin in all his smirky glory.
Now, we all know what this man looks like, but let me point out the obvious. Dark hair, light eyes. The contrast between the two is high, allowing him to pull off a more high contrast color, such as black, white, and that vibrant blue at his collar. His skin has a cool undertone (which is a whole other thing but just trust me there for now). You can see a more pink look to his skin, instead of a warmer yellow undertone. It's easier to see on people with lighter skin, but you can also determine undertone on folks with darker skin. So, there you have all the makings of a true winter.
What does that mean, in terms of clothing and picking out colors that will complement your features? Let's look at some pictures of Colin NOT wearing colors in his winter palette and maybe you'll see what I'm talking about.
Now, you'll never see me on this website saying this man looks bad in these photos. Obviously you'd be hard pressed to make Colin look unhandsome in anything you put him in. But just take a look at him wearing this muted wine colored shirt. His features don't pop at all, like they normally do. It's doing nothing for him. He'd actually be better off just wearing that white undershirt, in terms of making his features pop. And then the photo with the beige on the right is just... I mean, we can all see that's not good, right? We can all see those colors are doing nothing for him? Winters and beige don't mix. Beige is on a winter's no-no list.
It was actually difficult to find photos of Colin not wearing colors in his season. He actually does pretty well for himself, in that regard. He generally wears cooler colors and a lot of black. Here's another photo example though of him in a warm, olive green. Does he look ugly? Absolutely not. Would this sweater look better on him in black, or almost any shade of cool blue? Absolutely.
The olive color washes him out, actually. Let's compare this to Colin in a bright white and dark blue, below.
See how his eyes pop, and his skin doesn't look so washed out? The olive green sweater seen above is a warm green, which would look fantastic on someone in the autumn season. On a winter, though, it just doesn't work as well. And because I love Colin in blue, here are some more examples of him wearing his colors well.
Now, you might be saying to yourself, "Tori, you silly goose. You're forgetting about the magic of lighting benefits, and also the magic of facial hair, which is basically makeup for men." Sure, I'll give you that. Most men look better with stubble or a light beard, and lighting helps. I take you now to my next example of Colin not in his best colors.
The white undershirt and the blue tie are great for Colin! The rust brown suit, however, makes me feel yucky inside. I keep using this phrase, but you can see how this color is just not doing the man any favors. It doesn't help bring any vibrancy to his features in any way. Let's compare these now to (the moment we've all been waiting for) Colin wearing black and see if we can tell a difference.
Do you see how his eyes look brighter, and his skin tone doesn't look so muted and washed out? The skin beneath his eyes isn't as shadowed, either. People generally look healthier when wearing the colors that suit them best. Now, add in Hook's eyeliner to make those blue eyes pop, and you've got some real magic.
Winters also look great in red. (Think of Monica Gellar, also a winter, in her signature red from Friends.) Let us not forget Killian's fan favorite "red vest of sex", as seen below. Someone in the costume department really knew what they were doing with Colin, it must be said.
It's also important that they had him wear silver jewelry, instead of gold, as silver goes better with cool undertones. And how fortunate are we that they cast a man who naturally looks so good in black? The whole "little black dress" as a closet staple for women simply doesn't work for so many of us who just don't look good in black. The only season that truly shines in black is the true winter. ✊🏻 More power to them.
TL;DR Colin looks fantastic in black, and there's a scientific reason for it. Emma didn't stand a chance against not falling for Killian Jones, and neither did we.
Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

I hope this question doesn't come off as cynical, but in recent years has there ever been a Christine that people didn't like? What I mean is, it seems like everyone is always praising the current/recent christines, whereas less recent christines face more criticism online. Is it that there has been better casting recently, or because people are less ready to criticize when they know there's more of a chance the actors could see it with such a connection between platforms these days? I just know that I've had some less than fantastic thoughts on some of the recent christines (nothing terrible, but disliking prominent aspects enough to expect other people to maybe acknowledge it) and I can't tell if its just me being too harsh towards great performers or if other people are just not as vocal about their opinions anymore
If you want to know my honest answer? COVID-19. Go one and a half years or more without theater and suddenly everyone and everything will look good to you, or you're at least willing to give things more leeway knowing that actors have to deal with various restrictions.
And yes, the quarantine is now a good couple years away, but we're still seeing the ramifications today. (Seriously, take it from a teacher - boy are there ramifications.) Heck, it's led to at least one major change in the Phantom status quo: the closing of the Broadway production. One of the flagship productions is just gone, one that I think many of us took for granted and always expected to be around, and I do think that's the kind of thing that will create a seismic shift in conversation: again, sometimes we're just so dang grateful that other productions are around, we're willing to spare them criticism that we might have given in previous years.
That's not to say that's that the only reason why criticism seems less prevalent or vocal; I do think that there are other reasons, some of which you mentioned. Social media is certainly one thing, especially as the productions cast younger and younger (or we get older and older), which means more and more actors that are active on the Internet. That can lead to more muted criticism, partially out of fear of them finding it, yes, but I think also because people start to conflate the actors' real life personalities with their acting, e.g. maybe this Phantom isn't that great but he's so lovable on Instagram and TikTok that it's difficult to critique him as severely as others. More inclusive casting could also be a factor: maybe so-and-so productions isn't great or maybe that's a piss poor piece of direction, but damn it, we have a black Christine and a black Raoul after literal decades of lily white casting and we're just so grateful for that crumb that we'll bite our tongues.
And also, maybe sometimes people just genuinely think those people are great, and they tend to be more vocal than others! Maybe these people are great! (Well, you never know. I've personally liked almost all of the casts I've seen so far.) Maybe you just have a difference of opinion with the majority, that happens too! Maybe you're not looking in the right spots! (I've definitely seen criticisms of multiple Phantoms, Christines, and Raouls, from a variety of productions, in various parts of the Internet.) Maybe some of us are just tired. (That's me right now - critiquing is hard, saying negative things, even if truthful, can be hard, and sometimes I just want to say, "Good voice, good acting, got the job done, leave me alone").
But even when I look at these things, you know what still stands out as the dividing line to me? COVID-19. So that's going to be my answer for now... but ask me again in two years and we'll see what's happened then.
#GP gets asks#anonymous#also completely forgot to answer your first question about casts people have disliked and I wouldn't say the following are disliked but -#for Phantoms Killian Donnelly for Christines Amelia Milo for Raouls Bradley Jaden or maybe Joe Griffiths Brown

Who is killian jones
he's my muse and he runs the cult that i'm,,, um,,, in
jokes
killian jones is the once upon a time retelling of captain hook from peter pan. he is an INCREDIBLE example of a redemption arc in my eyes. i genuinely actually HATED that man for his entire first season and wanted the show to kill him off and never see him again so it REALLY says something that the show was able to gradually make me adore him and jump to the spot of my favourite character. ugh he's literally everything to me

I would like you to work on the OUAT Romeo and Juliet AU’s. Both of them. Thank you, love!!!
You got it! Here's a snippet of what I got written in the Captain Swan Romeo & Juliet & Boybands AU
Three hours passed in a manner of seconds. Instead of following through on their plans to watch a movie, they'd spent the whole time just talking and smiling and enjoying each other's presence. Killian wasn't sure which he enjoyed more: hearing Emma tell stories about her life, or the look on her face as she listened to him tell stories of his own. Either way, the time passed all too quickly.
and then here's a snippet out of the August and Belle wip, which is set in the same AU, but tells Belle's side of the story.
Most of the Buggies' music left much to be desired, in terms of composition. She didn't mind; she was mostly just listening for the lyrics, and those lyrics were a thing of beauty. For everything they lacked in ability and charm, they more than made up for in their keyboard-playing lyricist, August Booth. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't listening for the piano track in most of their songs, that she wasn't whittling down the list of his lyrics that she'd want a tattoo of, or that she didn't consider him attractive, or, at least, closer to her type than most musicians were.
kick-in-the-pants writer's game!

#20 "isn't that my flannel?" for Captain Swan please, if you're up for it? :)
Isn't That My Flannel?
AO3
Summary: A ficlet about chilly mornings and borrowed coats.
This prompt is from the Fall Drabble Prompts List.
Tagging others who might enjoy: @anmylica, @deckerstarblanche, @elfiola, @goforlaunchcee, @jrob64, @kmomof4, @pirateswhore, @stahlop, @teamhook, @tiganasummertree, @undercaffinatednightmare, @xarandomdreamx, @zaharadessert
Most of the clothing available in this realm left much to be desired after a lifetime of wearing the lightest linens, finest silks, and softest velvet a pirate could pilfer under the incomparable comfort of a well-worn leather duster but whatever made up this hideous coat that Killian lifted from Emma's car this morning was a surprising luxury.
As he walked through the town on this brisk morning, thick with fog, the cosy warmth of something this lightweight had become a bit of a marvel. His duster weighed about the same as a half barrel of rum and seemed stiff in comparison. It almost made up for the brightly striped pattern with pockets set such that the pattern clashed with the rest of the coat. Perhaps he could find one in black or a deep blue.
Breathing in the salty air and listening to the lap of water against the docked boats settled things in Killian he hadn’t known were unmoored. That feeling of belonging, of home, was exponentially multiplied when he caught sight of the gorgeous woman he was fortunate enough to call his wife.
Emma narrowed her eyes and cocked her head at him as he approached, his boots heavy on the dock. Something flashed in her eyes for a moment, but she tucked it away before he could place it. She’d tell him when she was ready, she always did.
"Hi, love," Killian greeted and held up the warm, spiced lattes to her. She smiled in appreciation before taking a sip from her cup.
“You look,” she paused, a smile tugging at her lips, “cosy.”
“I stole it from your vessel, Swan,” Killian said defensively, but a blush crept over his cheeks. He knew this brightly coloured monstrosity was not his most flattering attire but surely it wasn’t so awful as to warrant her jesting.
“Mmmhmm.” Emma returned to her drink as they fell into step, walking along the docks as the sun rose over the water in brilliant shades of reds and orange.
“What was the emergency this morning?” Killian asked.
“The alarm at the school went off. We checked it out. Nothing was missing or damaged.” Emma shrugged. “It’s probably some kids getting ready for their class prank.”
“Hmm, clever kids to get in without causing additional destruction.”
Emma cut her eyes at him. “Do you think that I don’t know Henry can pick a lock? That you taught him?”
“I am certain that I have no idea what you are talking about, love.” Killian smiled proudly, contradicting the innocence that laced his words.
“Of course not,” Emma muttered.
“As it happens, I do know Henry is innocent of this particular crime.”
“I know. Henry is getting the sheep.”
“He told you?”
“No. Dad did. Can you believe Henry asked him if he could borrow his sheep to fill the freshmen classrooms?”
“Actually, I can,” Killian laughed, shaking his head. Sometimes it was difficult to imagine that Henry was the child of thieves and the step-child of a legendary pirate. “Granny should have her first batch of pastries baked by now. Let’s eat before you go back to the station.”
“Ooh, yes.” Emma licked her lips at the thought of the fresh bear claw she was about to inhale.
When they walked into Granny’s, David was already at the counter getting his morning takeaway before heading to the station himself. He turned when they walked in, smiling at them. But his smile faded into an expression somewhere between bewilderment and confusion, “Killian, isn’t that my flannel?”
For the second time that morning, Killian felt his face heat as his cheeks burned red
-----------------------
@killianjonesz THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS ASK, LOVE!! I really hope it makes you smile. Let me know what you thought and feel free to ask for more. I don't know why this prompt SCREAMED silly at me, but it did.
