I've always loved it when people refer to others as "bean." It's silly and cute and so affectionate and endearing :3

I've also always loved the "human bean" jokes. They make me snicker every time.

I also picked my username because it's a play on words. Eldritchbean sounds like Eldritch Being.

The shapeshifter part is because, well, I'm a shapeshifter.

How did you come up with your username? I think they're all so cool and I'd love to hear I'd they have any significance or if you just think ur user's cool!

I'll go first.. quack is from the fact I really like the streamer quackity and he's been one of my long time hyperfixations... and woof is beacuse well.. I WOOF!! :3

Any of y'all have shifts that just, never go away? My phantom ears and tail never go away, unless I'm having a shift for one of my other theriotypes since they usually don't blend together. Them phantom ears and tail be going HARD all the time. Paws are also a near constant.

I love the "fictionflicker alert system" actually because sometimes you'll see a particular character design and the alarms go off but the character is in an anime with like 20,000 episodes. I ain't watching all of that but I'm happy for you or sorry that happened. Like ships in the night

..... We've decided we want to start a youtube channel. About plurality. Mostly, about our plurality and Alterhumanity- just documenting our experiences. We're looking into plural history and resources, so we feel we know the community better before stepping onto a platform and talking more about the topic so we don't make total idiots of ourselves but...

Hoo boi. This is stressful. I still don't have a single idea for what sort of things we would post. So many of us experience dysphoria about the body, our voice included, that makes this so very far out of our comfort zone. But we want to do it.

That doesn't mean it's not intimidating as fuck, and that we won't complain EVERY step of the way. Everything is currently pointing towards this but I swear we're getting dragged through this like a toddler getting dragged somewhere they don't wanna be.

I don’t rlly know how I fit into the wider otherkin/therian/alterhuman community and tbh my first thought is that mayb I don’t fit in? (Help??)

I remember when I first started hearing abt otherkin on tumblr wayyyy back in like 2015 or so, and I was one of the people who thought it was like.. offensive to the trans community?? Which is obviously bs! I’ve grown to be very pro do whatever you want as long as you’re not hurting anyone, and after reading a lot of therian posts I’m starting to get a better understanding of how and why someone would identify as an animal or other nonhuman entity.

But I don’t think I do. I very very very strongly identify with puppies, but I wouldn’t say I am one, I’d say I like pretending to be one! And I always have! For over 20 years now actually! But there’s a distinction between that and what a lot of other people describe.

In my mind I can still be part of the broader alterhuman community. I relate to the ways alterhumans act n feel even tho I am not exactly the same, and I like being in this space because of that!! It’s like, getting on all fours and playing with a bunch of bio dogs!!

I think people like me should have a place in this community, but idk how actual alterhumans would feel about that, especially in an online space where people tend to become more polarized n strict about what they believe is the objective true correct thing rather than allowing for variation in the human (and nonhuman :3) experience.

But also maybe this is invalidating for true alterhumans! Maybe they do want a space for just beings who are explicitly other than human, and as a queer person and someone who identified as a woman for most of my life, I get that.

If I were to fit myself into the community, I think I would use the label otherkin? Correct me if I’m wrong, but the word kin means related, so in this context I think it does work for me. Dog-kin = dog-related.

Oh also!! To me this is all inherently related to autism (assessment results pending but after the THREE HOUR INTERVIEW that was the assessment and finally getting to read Unmasking Autism by Devon Price I am feeling pretty confident) in a way that I could speak on but I won’t in this post because it’s too long already!!

Anyways… I guess I want to hear from other folks in the community. Does what I’m saying make any sense?

Hello faekin and elfkin! I was wondering, I feel a little inbetween elf and fae, due to some similarities they've had in points in time. But I go by elfkin for simplicitys sake. So my question(s);

Do you know any lore about the fae/elf you are?

Are you folkloric in nature or more based on stories not intended to be believed in like tolkiens books or tinkerbelle? /what's your source?

Do you have an appearance or are you a shapeshifter with no true form?

Are you a particular kind of elf/fae with a type name or are you just "fae" or "Elf"

hey so I’m pretty sure I’m plural

the others in my system are my theriotypes, Kinny and the cat (still not sure of her name, it’s either Nora, Mariella or Maribelle/Maribel)

the reasons I think this is that:

I’m almost always at the front but there are times where ill have a really strong urge to do something that I wouldn’t normally do

and it really feels like there are other people in my mind that I can talk to and are not me

I don’t know if this is just like a therian thing or if this is something therian systems experience but I’d really like to know if anyone has the same thing as me

also just to clarify my theriotypes can shapeshift into humanoid creatures

Mariella is a black cat who has the ability to shapeshift into a witch with no animal qualities and she also has the ability to change her age at will

Kinny is a deer/wolf hybrid who can shapeshift into a more humanoid version that can fly and has a wolf tail, antlers and elf-ish ears and he has the ability to change his size at will

How do you know when it’s something connected to your alterhumanity, not something you just like very much?

I'm gonna be honest, that's a really hard one to answer, especially in this general a sense (ie, any alterhuman identity, as opposed to talking about a potential kintype specifically). I suppose ultimately, it comes down to how much it impacts your sense of self.

Whether it be something you see yourself as/identify as (kintype, linktype, etc.), something you connect to so strongly that you'd be a different person if you didn't have that connection (hearttype, synpath, kithtype), something you see yourself in and/or aspire to be and mold yourself after (archetrope), a place that just feels right and like home to you instead of just being a place that you like (hearthome), or what have you, alterhumanity is almost invariably something that deeply affects your sense of self and who you are, even when it's not an "identify-as" label. Alterhumanity means an experience alternative to humanity or experiencing humanity in a way outside of societal norms; no matter what form that comes in, it's going to affect your identity.

So, what feels right to you? Is this something you could set aside and ignore for the rest of your life - and even if it is, would you be happy doing so? Perhaps most importantly, does it feel right and does it bring you joy to claim this connection, whatever form it may come in, as part of your identity, part of who you are? If it does, then it might well be some form of alterhumanity.

Question for my canine kins peeps

Any of y'all who have domestic dog and a wild canine kintype (or just one or the other, no restrictions anyone can answer!!!) how did you tell if you were a domestic dog or a wolf or something? My main theriotype is a hole, a wild caniform, but I also have some canine behaviors that fit more with a domestic dog than a dhole. I'm not sure if it's because i live with people in a domestic environment and that's where those behaviors are coming from, or if i should start looking into a domestic dog theriotype. Any thoughts??? Hit me with them!

I recently learned of the terms Synpath and Otherhearted

Some people use it interchangeably some don’t. I personally interpret them as separate:

Synpath: Used to describe feeling a profound connection WITH something, but not AS it.

Otherhearted: To identifying strongly WITH something, but not AS it.

For the spacekin part of me I think Space Synpath is more like it. I do not identify AS space itself but I’m connected with space so strongly that it’s definitely more than just “I love it” I had a whole post about it, yall have probably seen it lol.

Now that I know that I’m actually a Space Synpath, now onto my Alienkin type.

This one is still actually a little more complicated to me. To kin something is to identify AS something while Otherhearted is to strongly identify WITH something but not AS it while identifying as fully human.

Here’s the thing, I’ve never felt human, I do not connect with humans I’ve never felt like I was part of them just living amongst them. So I thought, okay alienkin because I connect with aliens in a way that feels right, it feels like me, I feel like an alien. I am not human but I feel like an alien.

But that’s where the distinction becomes important: Am I alienkin because I don’t identify as a human and am an alien or am I alienkin because my life experiences living among humans made me feel alien?

Could it be both? That’s a possibility. I do not experience any shifts or phantom limbs, I just feel like I am alien. Perhaps I answered my own question with that sentence alone. I’m not very active in the otherkin/alterhuman community, at most I’ll like and reblog posts I relate to but that’s kinda it? I suppose posting counts, but I don’t actually talk to anyone in the community.

I like having my facts sorted out and I like figuring things out via technicalities sometimes as it helps me understand things better. I’m not strict on this at all, again, I use it to help me understand things. This entire post is basically me trying to reach to the community that is more knowledgeable on the subject of otherkin and alterhuman experiences and their differences.

Here are bullet points in case it’s easier to follow:

I know I am not human in some way non-physically

Ever since I was young I never felt like I was human both from experiences in life and simply inside

I have a strong connection with aliens and space as a whole. I know that my connection with aliens comes from my extreme connection with space but I am aware that me being alienkin is also coincidental

I do not experience shifts, or phantom limbs, or dreams of past lives. I am aware that none of these are requirements for being otherkin but I wanted to add this anyways

I know that it may be up to me to see which one fits me best when it comes to terminology. I know that folks in the community experience different journeys and may have different definitions for different things.

So, in your opinion, my fellow otherkins and alterhumans, would you say I am Alienkin or Alienhearted?
