Starting this instead of uhh doing some homework between my uni classes. I actually probably shouldn’t start this and should just watch something short like She Makes My Heart Flutter instead bc I won’t have the opportunity to watch any eps tmrw and it seems like this show might be difficult to wait to watch but oh well whelp the plans got cancelled due to weather so i suppose i do have time tomorrow

Ep 1: It Appears - 나타나다 (Feb 2)

Dongshik is an older twin of Yoo Yeon by a minute. Is Dongshik a main character ir someone who’s boutta die? it seems like a familiar name in this show’s context

It’s interesting to see all the young cops kinda do favours for and want Joo Won’s attention while the two oldest (the Chief and Dongshik) are unimpressed by his status and arrogancy

ohh Joo Won’s got some history of discoveering the dead bodies similar to Joo Seon’s body and also some knowledge of Dongshik

So Joo Won knows: Dongshik was a Lieutenant in Regional Investigation, then got demoted to sergeant after his partner died and he couldn’t explain it, and also was a suspect of the 2 murders 2 decades ago. So I guess Joo Won took Dongshik’s joke of killing Joo Seon more seriously than he would’ve otherwise - is Joo Won suspicious of Dongshik?

damn Dongshik’s creepy smile - I don’t think Yoo Yeon actually killed her based on his reaction to the corpse and wondering if it’s his sister and also just cuz he’s the main character

Also I avoided nearly all spoilers so far before starting the show except that people love the bromance and it’s about tracking down some serial killer and it’s pretty dark but two mins before I started watching I found out that apparently a father kills his own daughter - that’s scary. also hopefully not too much of a spoiler that gives something away?

Ep 2: To Disappear - 사라지다 (Feb 2)

There was proof that it was Dongshik who killed Joo Seon at the crime scene? a guitar pick?

oh interesting, the Chief’s like Dongshik’s doing all this and giving his testimony now so that later on, when/if they ask him about anything again, he’ll just say he already did it and ask if they have a warrant

insane scene at the beef broth restaurant - so I guess the general public continue to think Yoo Yeon was killed by her brother?

when I was reading the ep 1 thoughts on reddit’s on-air thread of ep 1 and 2, someone mentioned they think the supermarket owner did it and had a ton of upvotes - which makes me think it’s true and people upvoted it after it was revealed. but if so, then they made the character who stutters a murderer?

Min Jeong the supermarket owner’s daughter isn’t coming home. based on the spoiler that a father kills his daughter + the theory that the supermarket owner is the murderer...

Is she the mayor or something? also she reminds me of the mom from Midnight (After looking up on MDL, yes she is. 2 actors I didn’t know were in here but I managed to recognize; her and Lee Do Hyun)

Park Jeong Je - is the this guy from Jae Yi’s restaurant that I couldn’t remember the name or face of? Oh I see, yes it’s him. the chief said he was part of the Munju police and the son of the Munju City councilwoman - so I guess she’s his mom

(Bromance) lmfao wtf this scene where they help the guy in the rain and Joo Won starts being nicer after seeing Dongshik be kind and then this slow-mo of Joo Won staring at smiling Dongshik

So Joo Won’s dad was the chief at Manyang 20 years ago and closed this case. lol Joo Won tryna do what idk throw off his dad or something but instead gave him an idea about how to close this case too with the mentions of a copycat. Although, he did know the dead girl, I wonder if some of what he said was true like with the bait and stuff

ah so the supermarket’s owner was an orphan raised by Dongshik’s parents and also helped him open the supermarket - so that’s why he spoke like that at the hospital calling her Eomma and stuff. Min Jeong is like Dongshik’s niece kinda

wait a minute... okay if the supermarket owner is the killer and his daughter’s mother/woman he loved left 20 years ago... well did he make her disappear?

Dongshik knows Joo Won suspects him of the murder(s) and loves working him up about it and acting as if he did it

ah fuck okay Min Jeong seemed happy when she saw who it was, so possibly it’s her supermarket owner father? how long ago was she captured and when did everybody gather around for the meat? would there have been enough time/would the show even care about that

(Bromance) Joo Won wants to move to the street and neighbourhood as Dongshik because he suspects him lol they keep asking “What is it about me that you like so much?”

wait what, Dongshik placed Min Jeong’s fingers on the stone? Is this his imagination? Also, was he wearing leather shoes when showing this ending scene the way Jeong Je mentioned when he’d gone to his house?

Someone on the on-air thread linked to their twitter thread that Dongshik found the fingers elsewhere and brought them there because he’d be the suspect otherwise - this seems plausible. Another person said he wasn’t the killer 20 years ago but maybe is the copycat killer now to get the attention back on this cast - not impossible but hmm. Someone mentioned the Joo Won might actually be trying to uncover something his father did here rather than only being here for Dongshik, which would make sense because that seems like their dynamic and they allude to them both or the father having done something bad.

Ep 3: Smile (lit: to laugh) - 웃다 (Feb 3)

Ah everybody in the town sad for Min Jeong

Dongshik doing something to the documents hmmm what and why shouldn’t Jeong Je be there when he does it? Also, Jeong Je also questioning Dongshik - despite the family vibes full of trust, there’s still suspicion from some people

Joo Won’s right that it’s interesting that people cope for Dongshik so hard when he used to be a suspect and is a running thread among many of the murder/disappearances - acting as if they’re a “family” instead of witnesses/suspects/whatever. There’s something fishy about the current chief (past detective on the case) as well

Joo Won a dumbass if he didn’t see Dongshik turning around and providing the same doubts about Joo Won; such as where are his alibis during the time Min Jeong disappeared? He also came around the time the body was found. He’s also a cop and knows things outsiders wouldn’t know. Just like Dongshik, he was there when both the body skeleton (who he knows the identity of) and the fingers were discovered

Woman with the ring who was killed was doing something for Joo Won (’go for a massage’) and texted him 1s the the day she died, meaning she met Dongshik

ah Dongshik did return the two girls’ case files

Jeong Je being accused of being an accomplice of Dongshik - brining back memories of back then when he was Dongshik’s alibi. oh did Jeong Je come forward as the alibi way later after people were convinced Dongshik was the prime suspect? That’s why the detective reacted like that + Ji Hwa asked why it took Jeong Je so long to come

oh damn the detective didn’t have enough evidence back then but literally beat Dongshik to get a confession? Did dongshik confess or was it an attempt?

ah they found the burner phone that the woman with the ring used to text Joo Won 1s but why did it have Min Jeong’s scent

the assistant Kwon guy who hangs off of Joo Won’s father and gave Joo Won some files in ep 1 seems so smarmy

4th person I recognize: Squid Game gangster mans

the DNA of the woman came out in that phone, as expected

I don’t even get what the solo sting that Joo Won was doing is and why the suspect for that was also Dongshik.

Joo Won’s team was investigating illegal immigrants of massage parlours - ah so it was literally ‘send 1 if dongshik is a customer of a massage’

Also what exactly is the issue with Joo Won’s investigation that he wanted to find something from this solo sting operation and triumph vs why him now apparently knowing her would be such a problem. like is it because he knew she was an illegal immigrant massage giver but didn’t make anybody else aware or whatever?

Joo Won’s seemingly becoming more unstable and losing control of his emotions

on the day that the woman with the ring died and sent 1s after seeing Dongshik, he was seen on the dashcam where near where said phone was found

damn, Joo Won fr just searching Dongshik’s basement and Dongshik can see it because he has a camera there

bruv, what even happened - Ji Hwa’s here to arrest Dongshik for kidnapping and murdering Min Jeong

also lol funny that Joo Won was just breaking into Dongshik’s house but can just get out all casually and leave without raising suspicion among all the cops there (or was he the one who called them in? like how’d they find out?)

I see on reddit that there’s the theory that someone had actually left the fingers on Dongshik’s basement table with the blood and so he set up the cameras etc and other stuff to get people to actually investigate the murder, even if he’s the one who’s seemingly at fault at first?

I don’t know what exactly is going on but it seems like Dongshik knows something that other people don’t and also that he’s planning something like he literally put up the camera, cleaned but left that specific drop of blood untouched, didn’t stop joo won from investigating his basement, etc

Ep 4: To Cry - 울다 (Feb 3)

Dongshik throwing off his blanket was expected, I’d half expected him to just make a run for it when just one guy was transferring him from the car lol

so it wasn’t blood on Dongshik’s table? or was it that there’s only that speck of blood and absolutely nothing else?

my goodness this ramen talk is killing me

oh so Dongshik went to the mountain just the other day, not around the day of when the woman with the ring was killed - I didn’t catch the date of the video but I certainly should have

Jae Yi’s flashbacks to this butchershop and something about her mother running away? while the cops search and investigate that place currently

bro I hope no Joo Won/Jae Yi romance plot appears - I’m just nervous whenever a woman and man of similar age interact in these shows even though this interaction was full of anger and it didn’t lean towards any romantic angle

Joo Won funny as hell for acting all “oh you must be living an easy life” with Jae Yi, so it was satisfying to see Joo Won get that thrown back to him with both her and the chief

actually i’m not super against Jae Yi and Oh Jihoon though, they’re cute

damn Jihoon’s “you provoked them” with the harsh expression no smile

Han Jeong Im hmm 52, missing would that be Jae Yi’s mom I don’t know their surnames though

Kwon’s really gonna come to fuck up Joo Won at some crucial time isn’t e lol not that Joo Won really needs help fucking up thus far. He’s got gusto and he’s got connections, so he can get his dad to push for an arrest without his dad, and get Kwon to grant the confiscation warrant; he’s decided the culprit without enough proof and instead of gathering proof himself slowly, he’s escalating everything

(Bromance) lmfao at 28 mins when Joo won goes to Dongshik’s cell and he’s like “왜 이렇게 늦었어? 파트넌데.” straight up reminded me of “Hong Dae Young, 왜 이제 왔어? 기다렸잖아” from 18 Again

ah okay they heavily hinted at this before but I was like hmm what’s he planning but I guess when they said bait, they really did mean Joo Won really did sent the woman with the ring as a bait/trap to see if he’d be killed; specifically whether Dongshik would kill her

Okay if we’re assuming based on spoilers that it really is the supermarket owner Jin Mook who is Min Jeong’s father and adopted brother of Dongshik: does Dongshik suspect him? Know that it’s him? latter probably not but maybe former? He seems suspicious of Jin Mook when he’s around their mother though but he seems touched by the beef now? with Jin Mook visiting him?

Did Park Jeong Je really confess to doing the same thing now as he did 20 years ago? Back then, he’d said he had drunk with Dongshik till dawn and now he’s also saying Dongshik was with him the night Min Jeong went missing

but this could count for like 20 mins when he was at Dongshik’s home right? so he’s lying this time that he slept at Dongshik’s home... but the next morning Joo Won was there to see Dongshik leave his house, won’t he be like hmm I didn’t see Jeong Je there

So does that mean Jeong Je also lied when he said that he and Dongshik were drinking together that night? And he in fact hadn’t been with Dongshik? these small towns where everybody’s so involved with each other is just wild

why’s all this happening just a few hours before 48, just hold Dongshik for 48 hours and continue on tf - cover the bases in case he’s the culprit but also don’t twist things to keep him after 48 hours

construction company CEO: development might be halted like 20 years ago with these murder cases and he’ll face huge loss; council woman: wants to become mayor and these crimes and possible cancellation of redevelopment hurts her chances; Joo Won’s father: Joo Won’s wrapped up in this murder case with the phone

Joo Won seeing Dongshik and Jeong Je walk off, who he suspected were accomplices; did he hear Dongshik say that Jeong Je lied or was he too far away?

ah the construction ceo really is smearing min jeong on the TV. sucks that people’s sympathy and well wishes for a missing and likely murdered girl goes down if they find out she parties and was possibly a sex worker and that this defamation is a tactic that they can use

Joo Won really isn’t thinking or what? why’d you go in and accuse Dongshik again and also pull out your gun

oh why did Oh Jihoon release the info about the arrest without warrant; is he with or against Dongshik; what did he see the night Min Jeong disappeared because he saw her walking but toward what we can’t see

bro Joo Won is king of escalating things fr - he’s talking to reporters but I guess that’s good? now people will be forced to connect these and less likely to be swayed by “oh the missing girl was a slut and a whore so who cares if she’s dead” and the cops will be forced to investigate rather than just shut them down like they did 20 years ago?

Dongshik is probably glad that the connections of the murders and the case is all known to the public now, right? If his plan had been to draw attention to the whole thing so that it’s forced to be investigated?

“Who killed them? Who are you protecting?” so Joo Won’s suspicion has gone down from Dongshik being the killer to thinking Dongshik knows who did it?

Ep 5: To Be Deceived - 속다 (Feb 4)

I actually hate that Joo Min supermarket owner is most likely the killer because hearing Dongshik’s say “Park Jeong Je” as the person he’s protecting would’ve had my heart racing

Dongshik didn’t say the supermarket owner’s name out of the people he listed to possibly be protecting

lol Joo Won’s father throwing him under the bus during a conference for Joo Won’s hasty/inaccurate but important reveal of the serial killer

Joo Won understanding now that Dongshik doesn’t just lose control and do dumb wild things but rather makes it seem that way to achieve his goals. While Dongshik’s pushing to see if Joo Won would throw away his principles and laws to get to the bottom of this murder case

damn flashbacks to Dongshik’s previous partner who died

is Kwon’s advice right now for Joo Won to fess up about having contact with the woman a bad advice that’s supposed to “keep him down” or whatever

Jeong Je walked Min Jeong home (where her killer supermarket owner father is? oof) that night - as seen by Jihoon... and Jeong Je is also Joo Won’s next target. I wonder what we’ll uncover about him, even if it’s that he killed Min Jeong

plsss seeing Joo Won standing like that beside Dongshik’s house and watching Jihoon leave reminded me so much of Moonjo watching Jongwoo and the new kid while leaning against the wall

damn, someone on reddit was talking about the book where some guy (nearly?) ran over a kid who was wearing deer antlers and this reveal that Jeong Je was an alcoholic (thus why Dongshik was worried about his drinking recently) and was at a psychiatric hospital for 4 years and that he claimed a deer/a human who looked like a deer

(Bromance) Joo Won talking next to Dongshik’s ear - Dongshik says “Dang. I was going to let it go since you’re cute but I guess I can’t”

Joo Won’s running on hunches and keeps accusing Dongshik and Dongshik keeps reminding Joo Won of Geum Hwa and Joo Won’s role in her death

damn, okay so they’re showing us that the supermarket owner father saw Jeong Je meet Min Jeong that night

I saw like 1 second of the next ep preview but it seems like maybe they’ll actually reveal that it was the supermarket owner who killed Min Jeong :0 I hope it’s true, because then I’ll know a spoiler revealed in ep 6 rather than ep 15 or something

Ep 6: To Deceive - 속이다 (Feb 4)

I’m supposed to be studying and doing homework right now but this ep is my reward for going driving I guess

lol this intense music while the supermarket owner’s preparing kimchi

Jin Mook going around giving the cops kimchi ah I don’t think I saw the cannibalism tag otherwise I would’ve been like hm is he feeding them his daughter

oh okay so they really do have him just speaking without stuttering and calling people dumbasses and saying “Min Jeong, you’ll have to live with me forever” - so I guess we do know that he killed Min Jeong but we don’t know if he killed the other people or not

Oh we’re gonna see day of Min Jeong’s disappearence - Oct 23

damn Min Jeong really said that her dad gives her the creeps

they showed him faking his shyness and stuttering and his face when Min Jeong’s captured hm ah

Once again the question remains: does Dongshik know Jin Mook did it? Does he suspect but not know? Is the reason he’s not telling Joo Won because he wants him to be able to figure it out on his own? Because he thinks Joo Won won’t believe him? tbh it could be that Dongshik doesn’t know but just continues making Joo Won think that he does

Also I wanna know when the timeline of everything happens; when did Jin Mook capture Min Jeong? Before or after dinner? Was Dongshik so frazzled because he’d already found the fingers or cuz of his leg pain flaring up again?

Jae Yi is so fucking beautiful it’s unbelievable. I don’t really care for her and Joo Won’s future romance maybe that I’ve been kinda sensing since the egg incident but oh well

damn Joo Won’s dad’s threats and comments toward Kwon were insane, compared to how he’d been behaving toward Kwon so far especially

ah I think I need to just watch the show without playing Solitaire on the side because I’ve been doing that this episode and getting confused.

What dashcam footage was the councilwoman talking about

(Confusion) Girl I’m confused as to what happened with the Chief deleting the footage of Dongshik going to the archives - why’d he do it? did he do something else and use this deletion as an excuse as well? what’s happening like Dongshik was like I didn’t ask you to delete it and then said something about asking him to delete it like huh?

lmfaooo this is actually wild the councilwoman really was like okay lemme do this dashcam footage of Oh Jihoon being seen near Min Jeong’s house but literally his own son was seen with Min Jeong with that dashcam footage (now deleted I suppose) but also Jihoon has seen Jeong Je with her straight up

It’s interesting how entangled all these people are and Joo Won is correct to be worried that they’re protecting each other. like Ji Hwa full on knew that Jihoon saw Min Jeong and also saw her with Jeong Je but since one’s her brother and the other’s her trusted friend, she didn’t tell anybody else even though they’re investigating her murder/disappearence

Can’t quite remember when I finished up ep 6 last night but I think it was 6-8pm and now it’s 4pm so it’s been like 20 hours :0 I lasted not watching this ep longer than expected but I think last ep’s cliffhangers wasn’t too bad for me

Dongshik and his old partner Sang Yeob were staking out on a guy suspected to have killed 3 women and Sang Yeob died after chasing that guy and getting shot

woahh Dongshik getting revenge for Sang Yeob by capturing the guy, almost shooting him, going for the handcuffs instead, fucker gets cocky and says “heh it was self defense” and that’s how he’ll get out of being responsible for Sang Yeob’s death, so Dongshik just bashes the guy’s skull against the concrete over and over till he dies I’m guessing

What did Chief know? Who helped Jin Mook die? Who killed Chief? etc

Oof, no wonder all 3 of the councilwoman, Jin Lee, and Han Chief all ended up seeing Yoo Yeon’s body, they were all together and drinkingright before that. Makes more sense than them all stumbling upon her on their own

Okay, I was confused about the timeline of the text but it makes more sense now. Jin Lee texted Dongshik with an unknown number (JCM is used by Jin Lee or the father and that was in the text) before Cheol Moon arrived home and that’s he was killed and Jin Lee put the phone that texted Dongshik on the sink to show that Dongshik was brought there and then killed him. Wonder what the other phone is for though

I wish the ending was juuust a bit more drawn out or not given us an ‘1 year later’ because I need either a bit more of all of them together and Dongshik/Joo Won or I need none of it so that I am solely responsible for my imagination. Like to go from such such such deep emotions during Joo Won arresting Dongshik to this casual, almost detached feeling even though they clearly still care for one another is too much for me.

Overall:

Ah, 17-ish hours passed with this story and characters.

Interesting how I started the show for one reason (serial killer, who-dun-it) but after Kang Jin Mook’s capture and death, the show seemed to be like a new season but with the same overarching Yoo Yeon plot and became more about politicians and legalities. Yet, it kept me engaged.

The writing of this show was really good, I thought the unravelling was quite good and even when we were a few steps ahead of the main characters as the audience, it didn’t lose the edge and also the characters caught up quickly enough. There may be plot holes but nothing sticks out to me and that’s what’s important. The characters were also really well written and given depth. The acting is great, the directing was soooo good in some places like congrats on this cinematography and directing choices, and the music was good too.

Also, it’s director and scriptwriter are both women, which is great, especially for this type of series that focuses so much on female victims

I’ve not been feeling romance for the past few weeks but Dongshik/Joo Won did manage to give me intense brain worms. Especially because in the first half, I was more worried about the girls and catching the killer etc and they had an interesting enough dynamic then with the antagonizing but after there wasn’t An Imminent Threat in the 2nd half is when we started getting more of their dynamics and such. They seemed so fucking gay in the text, not subtext, in the last few eps, esp the last episode. I will often look at same gendered friends and be like ah they are madly in love but did this show specifically want me to think of them that way because it sure seemed like it at the end, though I will choose to believe that they will continue to be very close after the show ends and not see each other’s face once a year or something.

Very good, I think I’ll rewatch this sometime and also gonna go read fics. Rewatching will for sure be interesting as I get to see more things, like even at the very first scene, young Kang Jin Mook is seen being asked to move things

- Kirumi, being the Ultimate Maid, is always helping people out with their requests, but she seems to always pester you specifically about demands

- If you’re thirsty, she’ll make you a cup of tea. If you’re hungry, she’ll make you a full course meal. If you’re sick, she’ll literally baby you. Even if you told her that you didn’t need her to help you so much, she’ll just continue doing it calling it “her duty as a maid”

- Of course she won’t do things that she knows will make you uncomfortable but it’s very common for her to decline your refusal

- SHE'LL GLADLY TUCK YOU INTO BED AND READ YOU A BEDTIME STORY...JUST SAYING

- Kirumi does put effort into everybody’s requests and she does put people above herself (usually) but you're her number one. She puts you above everybody else, making your requests a lot more important to her

- Sometimes you try to hang out with her, have a normal conversation. It’s a bit of a struggle. She will take that as another request even if you said it wasn’t one

- Congratulation!! You managed to get her to hang out with you!! Maybe you’re playing video games or maybe even board/card games with her. Perhaps you two are doing something the one of you enjoys or maybe you’re just talking to one another. Either way, she’ll always listen to you no matter what you’re talking about and she’ll make the activity you both are doing ten times better

- Kirumi doesn’t like being called “mom” since she isn’t even old, but one time you called her a “big sister” which was a nice compliment to her. Even if it was a joke it still made her smile sweetly at the nickname

- She isn’t the type to joke around much but if you continued to call her the nickname above I can imagine her calling you “little sibling/brother/sister” in return

- Whenever you’re sad, she’ll listen to you talk (if you want to talk) before giving you advice while preparing you a nice drink

- Speaking of advice, it’s pretty much canon that she’s good at giving advice. Top tier advice always.

- She is an amazing mother/sister!! The people around you keep calling you her child-

- It’s rare for Kirumi to show when she's sad. If you somehow manage to let her express her feelings she'd like for you to listen. You don't even have to be looking at her just the thought that somebody is willing to listen to her vent is good enough for her

- Overall, she loves you and she basically adopted you lol. Sorry not sorry. She's an amazing person to be around and she thinks that you're an amazing person as well!!!

- He will drag you EVERYWHERE. No matter where he's going you're coming along, no "buts"

- Ouma loves doing the most bizarre things with you. It doesn't have to be a crime but it's definitely something most people would rather not do. If you're more of the anxious type then he'd try to tone it down a bit while still doing something "dangerous", but if you are completely fine with his terrible ideas then off you two go

- You two are the duo everybody fears lol

- I have a feeling that he'd pull more pranks on you then the others. But don't worry!! Prank him back and then he'd be sitting in his room for the next 24 hours trying to think of a way to get you back. A great way to make him shut the fuck up/j

- He'd also be less gentle with his nicknames. Don't worry, he has a line he won't cross so he won't personally attack you

- Whenever you two are hanging out, playing a game for example, he would make it a challenge to beat you at it

- If you lost, good luck because you won't hear the end of it. He'd brag about it to EVERYBODY. The whole world knows you lost to him once in that one game. If you won, on the other hand, he'd get all angry, start crying, say that "you're not his big sis/bro/sib anymore!!" and continue talking to you 10 minutes later like nothing happened

- Kokichi is a jokester, but he will be serious when he has to. He'd give you a big ol hug and start talking about how everything will be okay if he sees you crying

- When he's sad, he's good at hiding it. But you don't have the title of "older sibling" for no reason. I can imagine him also liking a hug and for you to comfort him, the same way he does to you

- You're the one taking care of him. If Kirumi is too busy to make food, he'd order you to make the food for him. Same for things like when he's sick

- He might be very annoying but it's never boring when he's around. You're guarantee to laugh and have fun!!

- Ah yes, two wonderful children and a mother that's the same age as her kids-

Babysitting wasn’t something you planned to do when summer started, but when you saw that lonely dollar that you had in your pocket you decided to change that. And what better way, than to take care of the rich kids when their parents are too focused on their golf sessions?

It didn’t took you long to find a parent like that, since in Outer Banks, 90% of the parents had the stupid necessity to go golfing every day, leaving their poor kids on the house. Well, “poor” is a matter of speech, because if you had a pool the side of your entire house and free WiFi to play any game that ever existed, you wouldn’t complain.

“The food is in the refrigerator. Maybe start making it at 12 pm, she likes to eat early.” Mrs. Johnson was saying while she had her big bag on her shoulders, ready to leave the house. “Lily!” She yelled so loudly that you squint your eyes for the sudden scream. “Oh, and before I forget, in a couple of hours the boy that’s going to cut the grass is going to show up. But you don’t have to do anything, he already knows his way around the front yard.” You nodded with a little smile.

“Great!”

“Lily! Get down here, now!” She yelled so firmly that you could tell the fire on her eyes, making you feel a little bit intimidated by the rich house wife. As soon as she went back to you, a smile appeared on her face again changing her expression completely in a matter of one second, making you feel a little bit scared. “Do you have any more questions for the day?”

“No! I’m fine, we’ll be fine.”

“Y/n!” You heard the little girl calling your name while she was running to welcome you with a hug.

“Lily! Come here you little angel!” You picked her up so she could wrap her arms around your shoulders.

“Lily, behave.” Mrs. Johnson said and Lily nodded.

“Yes, mommy, like always.”

“No cookies until lunch is over, got it?”

Lily nodded again, this time more quicker. “Got it.”

Not trusting her daughter, Mrs. Johnson turned to you. “Got it?”

“Yeah, don’t worry about it.” Mrs. Johnson gave Lily a kiss on the forehead before walking towards the door. “See you later Mrs. Johnson!” You waved until you saw her outside and she was no longer in your sight.

“Do you want to see my barbie?” Lily said once her feet touched the ground.

“Sure!”

“Cool! Let me look for it.” She grabbed your hand to walk you to her room. “I did a makeover that took me the whole week. Because when I got her she was so ugly, the change was necessary.” She was saying like a professional fashion icon. Her sass was one of your favorite things about her. “That’s what my mom says all the time. If you don’t like something, you change it so it fits you.” After a walk that seemed to took forever since the house was bigger than the whole frontyard itself, you arrived at her room. While Lily was looking for her barbie to show you, you went over her room like it was the first time your eyes were seeing it. The wall colors looked like an unicorn had throw up in them and then a fairy had her glitter thrown at it. The main color was pink, her bed, her night stand, her desk, even her TV was the color pink. You never hated that color, but her room was making you feel nauseous. It was all so colourful and an interesting thing to look at, but the thing that always caught your attention was the thousand posters of the movie ‘Frozen’. Elsa, Anna and all of those characters you couldn’t remember the names where in her wall smiling. They were so many of them that you started to feel creeped out by them. “Here she is!” Finally, Lily found her barbie as was already walking towards you with her toy in her hand waving it like she was trying to get something out of her. She handed the barbie to you with the biggest and proudest smile ever, but the moment you grabbed the toy the smile disappeared from your face for a second.

“Oh my-” the normal long hair that Barbies have isn’t longer in this one, it was short and it looked like some punk girl from the 80’s with he hairs all lift up. You didn’t even know if it was punk, she looked like she touched a wire with a fork! She had a short dress that looked like it had been on dirt, washed but then she fell on grass, making it look even more dirty and destroyed. Her skin was painted red and blue with some pink dots all over her body. She definitely didn’t had a good day. You looked at Lily and noticed the proud smile and the excitement on her eyes as you were watching the barbie, so you put your biggest fake smile on your face not wanting to break the poor girl’s heart. “She looks wonderful!”

“I know! I’m good at it!”

You quickly nodded. “Yeah!”

“Maybe I can be a fashion designer when I grow up!” Lily started clapping and grabbed the barbie from your hand while you were nodding non stop not knowing what to say.

You thanked the Gods for Lily not wanting to show you anymore of her creations, instead she wanted to watch a movie, and as soon as she said that, you already knew what she wanted to see.

“Let it gooooo! Let it goooooo!” You heard Elsa sing while Lily’s eyes were glued to the TV, her body was slowly moving while she was whispering the song. You knew she loved the movie so much she never wanted to outsing Elsa, and deep down, you were grateful for that.

“Yes, please Elsa,” you said in a whisper not wanting Lily to hear you while you were sitting down in the couch behind her “let it fucking go. Stop it.” As soon as you tilted your head backwards annoyed, a sound came from the front yard. “What was that? You asked with your eyes glued to the door, but there was no response from Lily, since her little mind was too focused on the movie. You headed to the window to cheek what it was while all the horror movies and serial killers documentaries went through your mind. With your heart beating a little faster you opened the curtains and wondered with your eyes your surroundings, but nothing was there. You were calming down until you heard your phone rang in your pocket, making you jump from the scare.

“What’s up bitch?” Your best friend, Hannah, said on the phone once you picked up.

“Hi, I’m babysitting.” You said still checking the front yard.

“Oh, got it, you have to watch your tongue.”

“Yeah, but I don’t think this kid is listening to me right now, Elsa has that covered.” You did quick look on Lily, who’s eyes were still glued to the TV.

“Ugh, I hate that movie.”

“I don’t. But the amount of times I watched it here isn’t helping on that.”

“What are you doing right now?”

“Checking if the guy- oh my god.” You stopped as soon as your eyes noticed a boy standing in the front yard. Because he was too far away you could only see clearly his blonde hair and his dark brown boots. He had a white shirt on and some light brown shorts, he was far, but the way he was moving and carrying himself was what attracted you and made your eyes stare at him twice, making sure you were seeing correctly.

“What?”

“The guy that cuts the grass for this family is...” you did a quick turn to Lily to check if she was listening, but she was still too focused on the movie. You turned back to see the boy, but before you could continue your sentence, Hannah spoke before you.

“Hot?”

“Oh, more than that.”

“Who is it?” Hannah said intrigued.

“Can’t see, he’s too far.”

“What is he doing?” You saw how his arms tensed when he grabbed some machine you never saw before. They were so strong that you suddenly got the need to walk towards him touch them, but that would be extremely weird.

“I don’t know, turning the machine I guess.” You tried to focus more on his face and try to figure out if you knew him, but he was too far for your poor sight.

“Go talk to him.”

“What? No!”

“Why not? He’s hot, you’re hot. Perfect match.”

“He is definitely a...” Again, you turned around making sure Lily wasn’t hearing. Even if she wasn’t, you choose your next words carefully. “major babe.”

“Major babe?” Hannah let out a tiny laugh. “What are? 30?”

“The kid is still here!” You whispered loudly.

“What is a major babe?” Fuck.

You turned around to see Lily standing there with her Barbie between her hands. The movie was still playing but it looked like your conversation gained her attention even more.

“What? Oh, nothing.” You shook your head with your phone still against your ear. “Don’t worry about it baby. Keep watching Elsa.”

“I want to know what that means.” Lily said with her firm tone, letting you know she wasn’t going to let it go.

“I think you’re in trouble.” Hannah said on the other side, and you knew she was trying to not laugh at your current situation.

“Bye!” You ended the call before leaving your phone in your pocker to kneeled down and be closer to Lily’s face. “A major babe is someone who is... cute.” You said trying to choose the perfect words. Explaining something like this to a six year old isn’t something that you would ever choose to do.

“Cute?” Lily asked confused.

“Yeah, pretty.”

“Like Elsa?”

“Yeah? Yeah!”

You thought the conversation was over when Lily let out a giant smile and nodded convinced. But then, she opened her mouth: “So you think the guy who cuts the grass is pretty?”

“Well-” You got up trying to take those thoughts out of her mind, but before you could say anything Lily started clapping excited.

“You do! Y/n and JJ sitting in a tree-” She started singing but you stopped hearing once you heard the name ‘JJ’.

“Wait, JJ? The guy’s name is JJ?” You said confused, hoping it wasn’t who you thought it was.

“Yeah! He comes every week since last year!”

“JJ? JJ Maybank?” You were praying Lily was going to shake her head and say it was another JJ, but deep down you knew there wasn’t any other guy with that name.

“Yeah!” Lily said happily, unaware of your thoughts and your not so happy face.

Well, fuck.

“Oh my god.” You said when it finally hit you. “Sweetie, I think Anna is dying.” You said gently turning Lily towards the TV.

“Oh no!” She went back to the movie. You turned to the window and moved the curtain while a sigh came out of your mouth.

JJ Maybank. The guy that was known for being the life of the party, getting into trouble or starting a fight. He would almost every time leave the party with some girl around his arm. You weren’t going to lie, you wished sometimes you were that girl. Having a crush on a boy that doesn’t know you exists isn’t... the best. You met JJ at school when you were a kid and that’s when it all started, when he defended you from some Kook kid that was annoying you at lunch. The crush didn’t grew more, the opposite, it went down passing the years. But that didn’t stop you from looking at him when he showed up at the party you were at or feeling nervous when he was around. You weren’t the type to do so, but there was something about him that made you feel as awkward as you could ever be.

The fact that he was in the same house as you made you feel something inside your stomach, making you move uncomfortably in your sit while Lily was watching, for the second time, Frozen. You don’t have to talk to him, there’s nothing to worry about. You were thinking over and over again trying to calm yourself down. Or maybe this is your opportunity to talk to him. You thought in Hannah’s voice, since she knew about your crush she would often say that you should start a conversation with him, or at least introduce yourself.

You didn’t know if he knew who you were. You only talked once, back when you were kids and you thanked him for defending you. That was it. You remembered it, but you were sure he didn’t.

C’mon, what are you waiting for? Go offer him some water! Hannah’s voice was saying in your head like she was next to you giving you the courage you needed to do so. And somehow, it worked. After making sure Lily was safe while watching the movie, you walked towards the kitchen and poured water on a cup to bring outside.

As soon as your hand touched the door to open it, you felt the heat of the sun touching your skin and you heart beating faster, already knowing your next moves.

You saw him getting ready to cut the grass with the same machine you saw before. His skin and hair were glowing under the sun making your heart beat faster than before and him looking more beautiful than he already was.

“Hey!” You said loudly once you were a couple of steps away from him.

JJ immediately turned to you making your heart drop to your stomach. He furrowed his eyebrows confused while trying to figure out who you were. “Hi? Are you the babysitter?” He pointed at you and you nodded with a smile.

“Yeah. Y/n.”

“JJ.” He let out a tiny smile. Fuuuuuuck.

Silence came between you two while your brain was trying to remember what you came outside. “Oh! I bought you some water, it’s pretty hot out here.” You handed him the cup which he took gratefully.

“Thanks.”

“Yeah, I don’t want you passing out. I don’t want to deal with that.” You said and immediately regretted it, why would you say that? That makes you sound like a terrible babysitter!

But as soon as he let out a genuine laugh, your mind gave you a break.

“Sure. So, since when did you started working with this family?” He said before giving a sip to the water.

“Last week.”

“I haven’t seen you around much. You live in the Cut, right?”

You nodded. “Yeah, I do. My dad owns the store across the beach.”

JJ didn’t respond immediately. He stood there watching your eyes carefully, so much, that your heart started beating faster once again. “Really? He has some good boards, dude.”

“Thanks. He’s really proud of them.”

“Make sure to tell him. Thank you for the water.” He gave you the now empty cup and you shook your head with a little smile.

“Don’t worry about it. If you need anything just tell me.”

JJ let out a tiny laugh. “You take care better of me than Mrs. Johnson.”

You smiled back while on the inside you were freaking out. “It’s no-” you were saying but the water hitting your body cut you off.

“What the fuck?” JJ said as soon as both of you noticed the water feeling like rain against your body. You looked up to see if it was, but the sky was as as clear as you last saw it.

“Where is that water coming from?!”

“It’s the automatic water for the grass!” JJ said looking down and pointing at the tiny machine going off behind you. You turned around and looked at it confused, trying to not get hit in the face by putting your hands in front of your face.

“But it never turns on during the day! Do you know how to turn it off?!” You asked at JJ with the hope that he did, and luckily, he nodded turning around and leading to some part of the front yard you’ve never been before. When you arrived to where he was you noticed he was kneeled down and with a quicker twist of his hand, the water was off. “What the hell was that?” You said turning to where the water was coming from.

“I don’t know.” JJ said and looked down to his body all wet. You turned to him and did the same, but not to your own body, to his. The way his shirt was glued to his torso would mark his abs and let you nothing to the imagination. You immediately looked down once you realize you were staring, you felt so embarrassed like you weren’t supposed to see what you just did. “Maybe this will help with the sun and I won’t pass out.” He said with a smile once he looked up at you and you smiled, thankful he didn’t notice you staring at him and his fit body.

“You’re dripping.” You said. “You have to dry yourself otherwise you won’t be able to work with those heavy clothes. C’mon.” You pointed at the house and started walking, but his voice cut you off.

“I’m not sure I’m aloud to go in.”

“Do you want to get your work done or not? Because I don’t think you’ll be able to.” You did a quick look to the drops of water goind down. “It’s your decision, but I think Mrs. Johnson won’t be happy if she comes back and her grass isn’t done. Do whatever you want.” You said knowing that it was going to convince him to go with you. You did this tactic with Lily sometimes, making it their choice and having the control over the situation. Like you suspected, as soon as you made a couple of steps away from JJ, you heard his feet moving and getting closer to yours. Seconds later, he was already next to you.

“Maybe we should go to the bathroom, I don’t want to make a mess.” You said the moment you stepped inside the house. Lily, who was now sitting down on the couch, looked at you two with an exaggerated surprised face and walked to where you two where.

“Oh! What happened?”

“The water of your front yard went kinda crazy.” You said grabbing your sticky shirt and trying to get it away from your skin.

“Really?” Lily asked and then turned to JJ, who nodded.

“Lily I want you to stay here watching the movie, ok? We need to get dry.” You said leading the way to the bathroom. “Don’t open the door to anyone, did you hear me?”

“Yes!” Lily said while quickly nodding and then leaving to continue watching her movie. “Stupid Hans!” She yelled at the TV.

“She really likes that movie doesn’t she?” JJ said with a smile once he turned around to follow you.

“Yeah,” you nodded. “we watched it three times today.”

“Ouch.” You let out a laugh before entering the bathroom and quickly grabbing the towel and turning around to face JJ.

“Here, have the towe-” You were saying but once your eyes noticed JJ’s naked torso, your tongue went completely numb. “Oh.”

“Is everything ok?” He asked noticing your shook face, but then a little grin escaped his lips while he grabbed the towel from your hand.

“Yeah. Yeah! Everything’s fine.” You said quickly shaking your head a little bit, trying so hard to not let your now red cheeks make you feel embarrassed.

“Aren’t you gonna change?”

“I’ll wait for you to be over and then I’ll do it. Don’t worry about it.”

He nodded and the continued drying his body. “I still don’t know what happened with that.”

“Maybe the clock failed?”

He shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe. Anyway, thank you.” He handed you the towel. “I have to continue with work.”

“Yeah!” You quickly nodded. “You go.” You watched how he turned around letting you have a perfect veiw of his back, which made you feel like when you saw his torso naked without any warning. You looked away once he left the bathroom and slapped your forehead with the palm of your hand, already overthinking everything you just did.

As soon as you were finished you walked towards the living room to check on Lily who was now finishing the movie just one more time. You grabbed your phone from your pocket to see the time and realized it was lunch time, so trying to focus every thought of Lily, you called her so she would follow you into the kitchen. You grabbed everything that was on the refrigerator like Mrs. Johnson has told you while your mind was making the recipe for Lily’s meal. You were trying so hard to keep your mind focus and not thing of the cute guy that was still working on the front yard, a couple of steps away from you.

“Did you really fell for Hans because I didn’t. It was pretty obvious.” Lily said while watching you prepare her lunch.

“You think? I didn’t see it coming.”

“I didn’t like Hans since the beginning.” Lily nodded proudly of herself.

“You didn’t? I thought he was really cute and charming, maybe that what’s wrong with princes.” As soon as you said that, a thought came into your head. You stayed still like everything in your life just made sense and you understood it in that exact moment. “And maybe that’s why I like the boys I like.” You continued, talking more to your lard than to Lily. “They’re charming and sweet, but then they forget about your face even if you’re wearing a tiny mask, or they kiss you without even consenting it.” You were saying while your head was inside the refrigerator, looking for the mayonnaise to complete Lily’s lunch. “Or they even think because they have money we will automatically fall for them!” The moment that you said that you realized that you were babbling all to yourself about boys while Lily was listening to you, so you turned around shaking all your thoughts away. “Anyway-” you were about to change the subject but when you opened the water from the kitchen sink it all exploded and went all over your face and clothes. “WHAT THE HELL?” You yelled putting your hand in front of your face to prevent the water hitting your eyes.

“I’ll call JJ!” Lily said once she noticed the water wasn’t stopping.

“What- no! I got this!” You tried to stop her but it was too late, she was already out of your sight. “What’s the fucking problem with water today?” You asked trying to turn the water off, but no matter what you did with the switch, it wasn’t stopping.

“What happened?!” You heard JJ asking once he arrived next to you.

“I turned it on and it went crazy!” You turned around to see the water all over the floor. JJ kneeled down and opened the doors down the sink and just like before, stopped the water. You let your hands rest beside your body and let out an annoyed sigh at the feeling of sticky and wet clothes against your skin.

“Just like before?” JJ asked getting up to lock eyes with you.

You nodded. “Yeah. I think the thingy is broken.” You pointed at the sink looking at it confused but when you heard JJ let out a tiny laugh, you turned to him. “What?”

“The thingy?”

“Yeah, where the water comes out.”

JJ nodded still with a funny smile on his face. “Do you know how to fix it?”

“Do you?”

“Dad has tools!” Lily yelled, appearing on the conversation for the first time. You turned to her and she had a big smile on her face while her fingers were playing with each other. “Maybe Y/n can show you where they are?”

“Oh, yeah,” you nodded remembering the time you helped Mr. Johnson fix something for Lily. “I think they’re next to the bathroom. C’mon.” You said looking at JJ but then you turned to Lily. “While we repair that finish your lunch.”

She quickly nodded before you left her behind. “Ok!”

Even if you had JJ behind you, you felt his eyes on you as you were walking. Maybe they weren’t on you, but somehow, your mind had convince you they were making you feel uncomfortable under them. You were hearing his steps behind you, they were so close you could feel the air he was pushing with his arms while walking. The hallway was darker as usual since having JJ in your mind you forgot to turn on the light, but you knew the house like the palm of your hand.

“I think this is the room- yes it is!” You said entering the room next to the bathroom. “Tools tools tools...”

“Here.” JJ said behind you while grabbing a big dark brown box.

“Oh, ok. Better get that thing fixed so you can get back to work.” JJ nodded so you walked to the now closed door. You looked at it confused since you didn’t remember closing it. “What? Did you close the door?”

“No I didn’t.” JJ said.

“Then why the hell is it closed?” You asked before grabbing the handle, but it wasn’t opening. “And locked?!” Your heart dropped to your stomach the moment you realized you were locked and Lily was outside alone. “Oh my god, Lily? Can you open the door please? Lily?!”

Your heart started to beat faster but then, luckily, she spoke from the other side. “Are you guys locked?”

“Yeah! Can you open it from the outside?”

“I don’t know!”

“Can you check sweetie?”

“She’s a six year old? What can she do?” JJ asked behind you not faced by the situation at all.

“Well? Do you have any ideas genius? Lily is out there on her own!”

JJ lifted the box of the tools and let out a grin. “We have tools?”

“You can’t use them! Do you want to break the door?!”

“Do you want to get stuck in here until Mrs. Johnson comes back? Because I don’t think she’ll be happy to know that you left the little girl outside all by herself.” You let out a tiny sigh when JJ used the same tactic you used on him moments ago. You hated when they were used against you.

“Lily, are you still there?” You asked turning to face the door.

“Yeah. Are you two fighting in there?” She asked softly.

“No, sweetie, why would you think that?”

“I don’t know...”

“Do you want me to break the door then?” JJ asked lifting his eyebrow.

“Maybe you can do something without breaking it?”

“I’ll try. But I’m not a magician.” He said getting closer to the door to grab the handle. You noticed he put a lot of strength in it, but you didn’t understand what he was doing. “I think I got it, but I need your help.”

“What do you want me to do?” You walked to stand next to him.

“Grab the handle and pull it really hard when I say so.” You did as he told you and then looked at him, waiting for his words. “Ready?” You nodded. “Go!”

You pulled the handle with all your strength just like JJ told you while JJ was pushing the door to open, and before you could think of something else the door opened. You and JJ had so much strength into it, that the sudden movement of the door opening, made you two lose balance. JJ tried to grab your waist and prevent you from falling, but it didn’t work since your body was already half way to the floor, it only managed to turn you around by twisting you from your waist and not fall on your face. Once your back hit the floor, you felt a body algo hitting yours.

You opened your eyes once the pain in your back passed enough for you to move, to see some blue eyes staring at you. JJ’s face was so close to yours that you were feeling his heavy breathing against your skin. You felt like his eyes were casting a spell on you since you felt like you couldn’t move, and not because you had his body on top of yours. Even if would be normal for you to feel crushed under a body, you weren’t feeling his. You were so lost in his eyes that you forgot everything around you, it was just him and his breathing gently hitting your face.

“Guys-” Lily said softly next to you. That made you return to the moment and realize in the position you two were. He quickly got up and walked back nervously, like he didn’t know what just happened either.

“Lily! Are you alright?” You walked towards her and hugged her body.

“Yeah, I’m good.” She broke the hug to look at JJ, who was still standing in the corner nervously. “You two looked like Anna and Kristoff there.”

“What’s that?” You asked quickly, feeling your cheeks getting hot.

“Yeah, when they looked at each other. With so much looooove.” Lily said and then let out a silly laugh. You wanted the floor to eat you and throw you whatever it wanted, as long as it wasn’t there. Silence surrounded the hallway for a couple of seconds while you were trying to think of something to change the subject and pretend that what just happened, didn’t. But JJ spoke before you.

“Maybe I should get back to work.” He said and you nodded.

“Maybe you should.” The second you said that, he quickly walked passed your body to leave you and Lily behind. You watched his back and noticed he was looking down, maybe you weren’t the only one who got embarrassed. But what did happen?

The moment that you two locked eyes with each other you felt like there was nothing else around you, like you were melting under his eyes. You never felt something like that, and you never wanted to do it again. So lost in your thoughts that you didn’t realize Lily has taken you to the living room to play with some of her new toys. You were hearing her voice talk but non of her words were entering your body. You tried to keep your eyes on the toys but the second that you looked up, your eyes met with his. He quickly looked down and walked away, leaving your sight from the window. You sighed, disappointed.

It wasn’t that you wanted to stare at him... well, maybe it was. But you didn’t want to distract yourself from your work and taking care of Lily, the girl that had to be your number one throught until you left the house. So erasing your unwanted thoughts, you focused your mind into Lily’s game, who seemed to be super invested in.

“Barbie and Ken are going to get married tomorrow, I already planned everything.” Lily was saying the second your mind started to pick up her words. “I’m so excited!”

“I’m pretty sure Barbie and Ken are as well!” You said with a smile, playing along with her.

After a couple of minutes playing with Lily you were glad JJ wasn’t consuming your brain, playing with Lily did helped you get your thoughts straight and focus on what was important. It all seemed to be going back to normal, you weren’t thinking of what happened earlier, Lily and her funny game with her Barbies were definitely making you laugh, and the clock was getting closer to the end of the day, so you were definitely going back to your normal self, until you heard some steps getting inside the house.

“Hey, can I have another glass of water?” JJ asked standing next to the door. You looked up and him and slowly nodded, not opening your mouth. Without giving the opportunity to anything else to happen, you got up from where you were and walked to the kitchen. You heard the door closing and you sighed, glad that JJ didn’t followed you to the kitchen. You didn’t want to talk to him, you knew you were going to be your awkward self and probably embarrass yourself like you usually do, so better to avoid him and forget he even excited... if that’s even possible. You looked at the glass of water that you had now on your hand and stared at it for a couple of seconds. You didn’t want to go out and give it to him, so a better idea came into your head.

“Hey, sweetie,” you called Lily and seconds later she was in front of you with an innocent smile on her face. “can you take this to JJ?” She nodded and grabbed the glass of water before leaving the kitchen behind.

While waiting for her to come back, you closed your eyes when the last time you had JJ in front of you came back to your mind. Well, on top of you is the better choice for words. Your heart dropped to your stomach and the memory slowly came back to your eyes and the feeling of his breathing against your face. Not wanting to have that on your mind, you slapped yourself on the forehead with the palm of your hand. But that didn’t work at all, and what you saw when you opened your eyes didn’t help either.

“Hi.” He said while standing next to the kitchen entrance.

“Hi.” You said, surprised he was inside the house.

“My water?” He asked looking to your hand and noticing they weren’t holding anything.

You furrowed your eyebrows confused, trying to not think you telling Lily about JJ’s water was all your mind playing tricks on you. “I just sent Lily with a glass of water for you.”

“She said that you had it here.”

“What? Lily?” You called her but there was no response. “Lily!” You walked to the living room but she wasn’t there. Feeling your heart beating faster you walked outside hoping she was there. Once your eyes went over the entire front yard while your heart was slowly beating faster passing the seconds, your eyes finally landed on Lily, but that didn’t calmed you down, since she was standing right next to the pool. “What are you doing?”

“I want to take a swim!” She yelled once you started to walk towards her, followed by JJ.

“You don’t know how to swim! Your mom doesn’t let you in if she’s not here! Come back!”

“But I want to swim!”

“Lily you can’t! I’m pretty sure you will when your mom comes home.” You said but Lily didn’t respond you, instead she turned towards the pool. “Lily?” The moment she lifted her foot your heart dropped to your stomach. Your eyes followed her body falling inside the pool once she jumped and threw some water drops into the air, you saw it all like it happened in slow motion. “Lily!” You yelled like you never did before. You started running towards her ready to jump and grab her, but JJ being faster than you, with quick moves took off his boots and jumped into the pool.

Once inside, the water was making it difficult for you to fully see their movements. That was making your hands sweat and your heart to beat faster, it felt like it was going to jump out of your body. But then, you saw JJ’s head above the water, followed by Lily’s.

“WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?” You yelled once JJ left Lily’s body outside the pool. “Oh my god, you almost gave me a heart attack!” You patted her back while she was getting all the water outside from her body. You felt your heart getting heavy and slowing its speed while your breathing was letting out relief breaths.

“I’m sorry.” Lily said, once she stopped cuffing.

“Why- why would you do that Lily? You know you can’t swim!”

Lily looked up and JJ, who was breathing heavily with his body covered in water and his clothes sticking to his skin, but then she went back to looking at the floor. “I wanted- I wanted to be Anna.”

“What?” You asked confused.

“And I wanted JJ to be Kristoff.” As soon as she said those words you locked eyes with JJ, who seemed to understand the same thing as you on the same moment. Lily wanted to have a love like the characters of her favorite movie.

“Oh... Sweetie,” you kneeled down to be closer to her face. “And you thought that jumping into the pool when you can’t swim was going to make JJ your Kristoff because you wanted him to save you?”

She slowly nodded. “Yeah. And I- I also turned on the water earlier.”

“What?” You and JJ asked at the same time.

“The water for the grass- I did it.”

“Why?” JJ asked once you got up.

“And I broke the water tap. And I locked you two in the closet.” You opened your mouth surprised before looking at JJ, who was just as surprised as you.

“How?” He asked.

“Why would you do that?”

Lily shrugged her shoulders and that made JJ let out a tiny laugh while shaking his head.

“At least we know the house isn’t haunted.” He said, turning the conversation into something funny.

“You little devil.” You said, after letting the funny in the situation hit you.

“Are you gonna tell my mom?” Lily asked softly once she locked eyes with you.

“Lily, do you promise you won’t do it again?”

She quickly nodded with a smile. “I do.”

“Then this will be out little secret.”

“Thank you Y/n!” For the first time during those long hours, you felt like there was nothing else that could go wrong. You didn’t felt uncomfortable under JJ’s eyes, Lily was completely fine and JJ didn’t seem to bother that a little girl almost drowned for him... it all felt just alright. “And you calling JJ a major babe will be our little secret too!” Lily yelled and quickly added, noticing your cheeks go red and JJ letting out a grin once he locked eyes with you. “Oh, sorry.” Lily said softly.

“Shit.”

Well... it had to happen, just another thing going completely wrong.

Gwynriel Headcanon : Shopping takes an "unexpected" turn

I have wanted to write this one SINCE SOOO LONG. Hope you like it!

"Hayley you have to decide your prom dress soon, it's this week!" Gwyn told her daughter as she was shopping. "I knowww mom, ", "This one looks nice." Gwyn said while holding a blue dress against her body.

"Ehh I don't think it'll suit her body." Said her Nephew Nyx. Gwyn raised an eyebrow at him playfullly and then Nyx blushed. You seem to know a lot about her body, Gwyn said in her mind. And by the way Nyx blushed, she knew he'd heard her.

And then Nesta groaned, "Can we please goo, I'm so fucking tired, " And Cassian acted like he was hurt, "Oh.my.god. Nesta Archeron is tired of shopping? I'd never thought I'd live to see that way."

And Nesta swatted his hand and rolled her eyes. Gwyn just chuckled at their playfullness and said, "Alright kiddos, we'll go, " And her son groaned and muttered beautiful curses under his breath. Gwyn pointed at him playfully, "Hey! Watch that mouth Klaus." And Klaus just rolled his eyes and said, "I'm 19 mom, I don't need to be told to watch that mouth. I'm not a boy anymore. I'm a man. "

Gwyn literally glared at him before saying, "Oh really? Then act like one. Just look at your cousin Nyx. He at least curses in private and not in front of his parents." And Klaus chuckled at that. Nyx just became even redder.

"Alright let's goooooo" Nesta said and went out the door and took flight. Oh yes, the Valkyries had wings, real wings. They were light coloured and off white. Like the wings of angels. Even Gwyn had them.

And well all of them had wings. Klaus had his father's illyrian wings, and Hayley had her mother's valkyrian wings.

They walked out of the shop after 5 hours of shopping. With literally nothing in hand. "Wow, we really do know how to waste time." Cassian said while chuckling as he took flight. Gwyn could see Nesta followed him, and that they weren't going home any soon. It looked like some action is gonna take place in the sky this evening.

Nyx sighed and said while looking up, "They're gonna do it aren't they?", and Hayley shivered and said, "Ew Nyx, don't stare up, don't wanna find our aunt and uncle doing this. Mom can we please take the stairs? I would rather walk 10000 steps of stairs rather than accidentally see them."

Gwyn chuckled and said, "Hayleyy, it's okay. They're not doing anything now-" Gwyn then looked up mid sentence and saw them doing it and then suddenly looked down, "You know I think we should take the stairs too, let's go yeah let's go" Gwyn said and wrapped her arms around her twins, with Nyx walking on her side.

They walked till the house in silence until Gwyn said, "Alright I'm not walking ten thousand steps, Klaus, can you use your shadows to hide us. We'll fly to the house and MAKE SURE to not look upward AT. ANY. COST. Alright?"

Klaus just shrugged and said Alright. His shadows wrapped around them. In winters, even at 7pm it looked like it was 1am. But alas, his shadows wrapped around them and they were hidden from the world. They all took flight and all landed on the balcony.

Gwyn just chuckled when she saw Klaus stumble while he landed, "You need to work on that landing boy." She said but then saw he was frozen. And then she then looked at Hayley and Nyx.

Everyone had frozen now. Silent tears were coming from Hayley's eyes. And Klaus was just frozen. Gwyn knew this affected him much as it did to Hayley, he was just too proud to show it. Nyx was looking at Gwyn, and he was in her mind.

It was his silent gesture of showing that he was there for Gwyn. But Gwyn didn't understand what was happening, until she followed Hayley's gaze.

Gwyn's smile disappeared in an instant when she saw her mate kissing Elain.

Suddenly Cassian and Nesta landed on the balcony, Azriel broke their kiss, and Klaus' shadows faltered.

And then Gwyn met her- not hers, she reminded herself. She met Azriel's gaze. Gwyn didn't realize tears were coming from her eyes until Nesta came up to her worriedly and asked what was happening.

Azriel just stood there, not able to say anything when he saw Gwyn, and their kids. When Nesta followed Gwyn's sad gaze, she saw Azriel and Elain standing together. And it immediately clicked, Nesta started to walk towards Azriel, furious but Gwyn stopped her.

Nesta was about to argue but she saw Gwyn shake her head, and Nesta's heart broke at seeing that. Gwyn took a shuddering breath, and said, "Kiddos" And her voice broke. She then closed her eyes, trying to register what was happening, hoping that this was just a bad dream.

But when she opened her eyes, it- it wasn't. It was just endless sadness. Gwyn tried to calm her racing heart, but she couldn't. She then tried to regain some composure, and cleared her throat and said, "Kiddos, I think you should go to your room." And Klaus started to speak something but Gwyn cut him off with a command, "Now".

Klaus obeyed as he understood the intensity of the situation. He then picked up his sister who was sitting on the floor crying silently, and took her to his room. "Aunti Gwyn I-" Gwyn cut him off with a pleading look. Please. She said in her mind and then he froze for a second, before going to his room.

Nesta was about to speak when Gwyn cut her off, "Please take care of the kids until then" And Nesta was about to say something, but Cassian took her out of the room, and into the kids' room. He gave her an apologetic look before doing so.

And now it was just them. Gwyn wasn't able to meet his eyes, her heart was too broken, and she- she couldn't look at her. So she did the only sane thing she knew, she took flight out of the house.

She knew Azriel followed her, "GWYN" He shouted once, "GWYN" He shouted again but he was too slow, for Gwyn was already in the townhouse.

She met Feyre in the way but she slightly shoved her to go to Rhysand's study, only to find it empty. Then Gwyn came back to Feyre, only to find that Azriel was already talking to her. "RHYS" Gwyn shouted, "RHYS" she shouted again. She then went to Feyre, right beside Azriel.

Azriel then turned towards her at the same moment Feyre said, "Gwyn are you okay?" Worry shown in her eyes but Gwyn- Gwyn couldn't deal with this right now. "Gwyn I can explain-", "Do you have the divorce papers? The one that people sign when the want a divorce?" And at the same moment Rhysand came down the stairs.

As soon as he saw Gwyn's sad face he asked her, "Gwyn are you okay?" Gwyn again ignored the question and tried to ask him with a cold face but failed miserably, "Do you have divorce papers?"

And Rhysand nodded, "Can you give them to me?" And Azriel suddenly said in a deathly voice, "You are not giving her divorce papers. Gwyn I can explain-", "Please" Gwyn said, letting her broken self be seen in that one word. And then Rhysand understood and went straight to the study.

Gwyn, Azriel and Feyre followed him. While Rhysand looked for the papers. He had looked into Gwyn's mind. He knew how wrong it was but he needed to be sure, and after seeing what she had seen, he was sure.

"Gwyn I can explain-" And this time, Gwyn snapped. "What the hell is there to explain Az? You kissed her and our kids saw that. Do you even know how much it hurt them to see their father like that? Do you know how much it hurt me-", "Gwyn I was just confirming-"

"Confirming WHAT Azriel. We've been together since 25 years. Married together since 23 years and have had kids in the last 19 years. And if you really needed confirmation, you should have done that before doing all of that with me."

And this time, Azriel had no words, he simply looked down. And then Gwyn laughed bitterly with tears in her eyes, "I guess 25 years for a fae don't really matter now do they? It's just one percent of their life and-", and even Azriel shed one tear. Gwyn felt guilty about saying those words but- "Don't say that Gwyn. Don't.say.that." And then Gwyn said, while looking him straight in the eye, "But it's the truth Azriel. And like you said, ugly truths are better than pretty lies. "

And then Rhysand found the papers and slammed them on the desk. Gwyn signed them as soon as possible, her tears making the page wet. This was it. She was ending their life together. Their 25 years. Their 25 years. But it's fine, it's fine.

"Gwyn what about our kids?" Azriel asked, with a broken voice, and Gwyn didn't look up. She swallowed that huge gulp in her throat, and said, "I guess you should have thought about them before kissing Elain." And signed the last page.

She then shoved the papers in Azriel's chest, "Sign the papers Shadowsinger. It's just like another deal. " Gwyn said with sarcasm dripping from her voice, she tried to smile, she really did. But she couldn't. "I'm not signing the papers Gwyn.", "Yes you are. ", "I.am.not." Azriel said, with some sense of finallism in his voice.

And then Gwyn said with a defeated voice, "Please sign the papers. Please.", "What about our family-", "Our family is still gonna be there Az. I am not taking our kids anywhere. You'll always be there father and they'll stay right there. Don't think for a second that I'll let my kids live without a proper father like you had to.

You may be the shittiest person I know Azriel but are a great father. Sign the papers Azriel, we aren't meant for each other anymore. I'll even leave the night court just please sign the papers."

Gwyn said and looked up to him with bloodshot eyes and begged him with those eyes. And then Azriel squared up and said, "I'm sorry Gwyn- I- I can't sign the papers, I- can't let you go." And that was the moment, when Gwyn lost all hope in him.

She then left the townhouse without saying a word, and this time, Azriel didn't follow her. She was now standing outside of her kids' room, she kept taking long breaths. She cleaned her eyes with the back of her hand but whenever she's tried to open the door, she moved back.

But then Nesta suddenly opened the door from inside and as soon as she saw Gwyn, she caught her in a bone crushing hug. "I'm sorry." She whispered in her neck.

Gwyn then moved back to look at Nesta's face and smiled sadly, "It's not your fault Nes. It's okay." And Nesta hugged her again.

And then Cassian came out of the room, even he looked guilty, as if he was the one who had done the deed. Cassian then looked at Gwyn apologetically and Gwyn just rolled her eyes and waved it off. Cassian was stupid, but not stupid enough to miss the pain in her eyes.

"I need to talk to the kids Nes." Gwyn reminded Nesta and Nesta moved away, she then looked at Gwyn, apologetically and pitying her. And Cassian and Nesta left.

Gwyn then took a long breath and went inside the room, only to find Hayley still crying, and Nyx and Klaus comforting her. Gwyn then closed the door and went towards them, she sat on her knees and took Hayley's hands in hers. But Hayley didn't wait a second to hug Gwyn. She kept crying in her neck, Gwyn closed her eyes, don't let the tears come, don't let the tears come.

And then opened them and massaged Hayley's hair slightly. "shhh, it's gonna be okay love, it's gonna be okay. " She kept repeating as long as it would take to stop her daughter from crying.

It didn't work and Hayley moved away. Gwyn's heart broke when she looked at their sad faces. She then got up and sat on the other bed, with her hands still holding Hayley's. "Hey, look at me." She whispered and Hayley didn't, "Hayley, look at me." And then Hayley did.

And the sight of that broke Gwyn's heart even more. She wiped her tears with her hand and said, "it's gonna be okay love, it's gonna be okay. " And kissed her hand. Klaus then said, "Don't worry, we'll take revenge Hayley." And Gwyn rolled her eyes and said, "no revenge needs to be taken Klaus, you can calm down."

"Mom but-", "No buts, Azriel may be a shitty husband but he's not a shitty father. And you will not treat him like one either. He's always been there for all of you, even you Nyx. So any plans you've made for killing him have to be cancelled. Come on, hand them over Nyxie" Gwyn said, trying to lighten up the mood.

But then Nyx actually gave her a piece of paper guiltily and Gwyn chuckled and asked, "You actually made a plan to kill him? Wow" And then Hayley sobbed and asked, "Mum are you divorcing him?"

And then Gwyn looked down guiltily before shrugging and saying, "It's what parents do when things won't work out.", "What about our family?" Hayley asked. Gwyn scoffed and said, "Hayley, we'll still be a family. We'll always be a family. I would always be your mother and he'll always be your father. Nothing can change that. The only change is that I'm retiring him from the job of being my husband. But he'll still be your father. "

Gwyn said, and then continued, "I- I just may leave for a while, until things become a bit, controlled." And then Nyx said with anger laced in his voice, "Why do you have to leave? Why can't he? And why can't we come with you?".

And then Gwyn said, "Number one, because I need to get away. Number two, someone needs to take care of you kiddos, and number three I am not mentally or financially stable to support you right now. I always want you to live your best life and the only way to do that is by living in Velaris. And besides, you have your prom coming up, be a little excited!"

She tried to lighten up the mood but it didn't work, she sighed and said, "Wow you guys really are downers. But you can't be like that you know. Life has its own ups and downs. Sometimes its great and sometimes its shitty."

Klaus just scoffed at which Gwyn glared at him and then decided to take him out of the room. They entered the room's balcony and immediately Gwyn said, "Listen mister, you gotta stop being a downer for at least your sister. And Klaus you do not need to feel bad for me. I am a 50 year old adult and I can handle myself. Also, I caught you checking out that guy in the mall today, what was that about? "

And as soon as Gwyn said that, klaus reddened. But then he huffed and said, "How long have you known?" Gwyn just pretended to file her nails and said, "some 5 or 6 years, when I caught you doing my makeup in the bathroom. And then you saw how hideous you looked and immediately decided you wanted to be a masculine gay."

And then he tried to hide his smile while saying, "stalker" Gwyn acted like she was hurt but then said, "Am not! Now come on, your sister needs you. Go watch a movie with her and I'll think about giving you that guy's number."

"You have his NUMBER?!?", Gwyn winked and said, "I have my sources" And then took him inside. "Hayley, come on let's watch a movie and stop crying." Gwyn said and then pouted, "Pweaasee Hayley" Hayley cleaned her tears and said, "Alrighttt mum"

(After watching a movie and saying goodnight to her kids)

In the balcony, with Nyx while stargazing :

Nyx scoffed and said, "Why did you forgive him Gwyn?" And Gwyn waited for a long time before answering, "Because I love him. And love makes people do fickle things. And also, who the fuck gave you permission to call me Gwyn?" And then took a long sip of her cheap beer.

"That is not the point. And also, I was trying it out but it didn't stick. But-", "No buts Nyx, when you're in love, you'll understand." And Nyx was about to say something but he shut his mouth.

And Gwyn understood. "Ohhhh but you've already been in love haven't you? 2 years with Hayley?" And the way Nyx reddened at that statement, made Gwyn chuckle even more with hiccups.

"That's right Nyxie, I know alll about your little thingies. I know all about yoour secret relationship-", "Please don't tell anyone-", "I know I know I would never.", "It's just that-", "Oh i know that you both enjoy the secrecy and having each other to yourself. By the way have yoou told her that she's your mate? I mean you should cause you already know her and-"

"YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT TOO??? MY GOD, YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE SPYMASTER OF THIS DAMN COURT" Gwyn chuckled and said, "Language Nyxie, wouldn't wanna disappoint dad."

And Nyx just scoffed at that. After a few minutes, Gwyn got up and said, "Go home Nyxie, it's like 10pm now." But before leaving she didn't forget to pat him on the back and saying, "Don't drink little guy" And took a huge sip of the beer, finishing it. Nyx just chuckled at that.

Gwyn then went to her room. Not hers anymore, she realized. Gods, she was really drunk and all she wanted to do was break down and cry, but not today, she said, not today. And then she decided on doing a crazy ass thing. She decided to wear her ex husband's t-shirt and sleep. While she was changing in the bathroom, she noticed this weird tattoo forming on her hand.

It was full of flowers. Full of thorns, and roses. Gwyn thought she should get it checked out by Rhys, and so she did.

She then went to the townhouse, apologized Feyre for her behavior earlier and then asked to see Rhysand, to which Feyre told her that he was in his study. Gwyn went to his study, only to see that his face was dead serious, and that he was examining a box carefully.

"Sorry to interrupt Rhys but I suddenly got this tattoo and- OH MY GOD IS THAT TAMLIN'S HEAD!"

And Rhys nodded, she then went to look at his face. It was in its half beast form, but then Rhysand's eyes didn't move from her tattoo. And then Gwyn covered it up with her hand and said, "Sorry I didn't mean to interrupt, you already have better things to do." Gwyn was about to leave but then Rhysand said,

"It's the same tattoo I saw when Tamlin became the high lord in front of me-", "Ohkay?-" Gwyn was officially confused as to why Rhysand was telling this to her right now, but all her confusions were cleared when he said,

"You're the High Lady of the Spring Court."

Longstar AU Three to Tango part 1

Howdy y’all, I’m back at again with the AU - I can’t promise one a day lore dumps after this, because I only have up until the Battle against the Dark Forest - and then it’s just little details and disconnected thoughts at the moment, but I’ll give what I’ve got until it’s complete. And thanks for the likes and follows - it’s really flattering for someone not in my direct friends/family to like my stuff. Anyhoo enough feelings lets goooooo!

Biggest difference, Skyclan. Wasn’t reformed just yet, but I’ll get to that shortly. Longstar’s sight is beginning to fail him, but he can still see the colors of his grandkit’s pelts. Another difference, because of the cross-clan-relationship-agreement, the Three are well aware of their parentage - he visits at least twice a moon, and was there to see them apprenticed off. They’re well loved, have plenty of support from families in both clans, especially their aunt Foxflight and Uncle Shrewleg. Those two have been trying for kits, but Shrewleg’s injury may have left him unable to father any kits - but they don’t mind it too much. Maybe someday. And Whitestorm, beloved Deputy, has stepped down. His age is starting to catch up, and he’s happy to help out, but he knows leadership just isn’t in his future. He suggests Brightheart, who happily accepts as Cloudtail and Whitewing cheer ecstatically! Pretty sure the Tribe heard that!

Lionpaw apprentices to Darkmoon, with Fireheart acting as support mentor if needed. Jaypaw gets two mentors, Brightheart for his regular training, and Snowthorn for working with his senses - Brightheart translates Snowthorn’s sign language when his words just don’t work as well. Eventually Longstar joins the sessions when his vision dims. And Hollypaw isn’t as much a stickler for the Code, understanding that rules can change, and she stands as evidence of that. She’s aiming for Deputy, hopefully Leader, but is content to support her clan how she can. Canon continues until...

At the Gathering, Jay hears Mousepaw flirting with Minnowpaw, and wonders if there’s going to be another cross-clan couple. But as he’s telling Hollypaw, there’s a commotion at the back of the crowd. A pair of mollies appear - it’s the long thought dead Sandstorm! And some kittypet but Sandstorm yaaaay! Foxflight nearly knocks her over in excitement, and Longstar greets his missing clanmate. Coldlight actually shows an emotion! The Gathering disperses, and Greystripe offers to escort the kittypet, oh your name’s Millie? An honor madame I am -enchanted- to meet you. It’s apparent immediately that they’re making heart eyes at each other but it’s cute! Millie and Daisy have a giggle about how cute and chivalrous he is.

When Sandstorm settles back in, she grabs Longstar, Fireheart, Flamewish, Darkmoon, Foxflight, and Swiftpool and tells them her adventure. She was adopted by a twoleg who owned Millie, and the two escaped fairly quickly. She met an elderly tom named Skywatcher, and founded Skyclan again, leaving Leafstar in charge, and receiving a prophecy about Three of Flame and Fire’s kin. It’s agreed to keep it quiet until they’re all sure about who it’s about. Could be Swiftpool, Foxflight, and Whitewing? Cloudtail no probably not him. After the conversation, Canon continues until...

The competition! Lionpaw’s back at camp, and Jaypaw’s having a rest, Lionpaw has a vision of Hollypaw and another dark-pelted cat falling, and feels choked by dust and dirt, and Jaypaw sees the vision as a dream. The two call for aid, and Hollypaw and Breezepaw are rescued from the old fox den. Jaypaw is suspicious, but maybe it’s a triplet thing? He and his sibs have always been super close. Hollypaw and Breezepaw begin a very odd friendship, as Crowfeather is his father, but only as a surrogate for Nightcloud - those two are just good friends, but Breezepaw wants a close relationship. The unlikely half-sibs decide to meet up every few nights, in secret, as insisted by Breezepaw. He doesn’t want his mom to know he’s being -social-. Canon continues until...

Late after one meeting, Hollypaw, who told her parents about the meetings because she’s not a fool, wanders through a part of the forest that looks unfamiliar. She hops over a root, and two large brown tabby toms are waiting for her - Tigerstar and Brambleclaw! They try to woo her into training with them, promising to make her a great warrior. She blinks, and then laughs right in their faces, like absolutely loses it. Why would she want to train with two cats who lost? Like really badly lost? Ohohoho how funny! She leaves, chuckling, and the next thing she knows, she’s in her mossy bed, in the apprentice den. What a weird dream! Meanwhile Tigerstar and Brambleclaw are seething, but vow to try again at a later night.

I’m doing it, because I have no self control I’m doing it.

Here we goooooo this is what I’m going to name the Recurring AU.

So some basic info to put out on the table:

- Ozpin is still immortal, still reincarnates, etc.

- Qrow, in a certain way, is also immortal. But it’s a bit interesting so bear with me.

- Qrow owns a sword, The Decaying Future. In order to use magic with it however, he has to use his own life force to do so. Decaying future has a direct connection to Qrow and his soul.

- Qrow’s soul, goes from person to person, much like Ozpin’s soul does. But where as Ozpin looks different each time he reincarnates, Qrow looks near identical to what he originally looked like and also, even more apparent, doesn’t remember anything from his previous lives.

- Qrow, each time, is still just as he was before he died the previous time and he always seems to show up when Oz needs help. But doesn’t have his memories, and can never quite place when he got Decaying Future or where he got his countless scars.

- so in a way, he’s still mortal, at least he thinks he is. And acts as a sort of protector of Oz, in one way or another. That being a good friend, royal guard, coworker, or spouse.

- The Decaying Future acts as an opposite to The Long Memory. Where as Long Memory stores magic to use for later, Decaying Future takes magic to use immediately. This is how Qrow has died in the past and why he can’t just use magic now, because Decaying Memory constantly takes Qrow’s magic (and life force) whenever it uses magic.

Now let’s get into the fun stuff!

- Oz doesn’t realize that Qrow is the same person he knew in the past for a few of Qrow’s reincarnates. Thinking he’s hallucinating, Oz ignores it.

- When Oz finds out about Qrow reincarnating he’s understandably overjoyed, finally! A familiar face. And the face of his former spouse nonetheless!

- this excitement would soon fade when Oz comes to the sad and horrifying realization that Qrow, does not remember him at all.

- this of course makes things difficult, because Oz desperately wants to catch up with him like old times. Desperately wants to talk to him about things that have happened but knows he can’t because of Qrow not remembering him.

- and it becomes even more painful for Oz when Qrow does what he had previously done, protect Oz. At any cost.

- No matter where he was, no matter what time period, no matter if Oz tried to make SURE that Qrow would come nowhere near him, he was there. Constantly. Protecting him, bonding with him, laughing with him.

- and Oz couldn’t help but keep falling for him, every. Single. Time. Which made it hurt even more when Qrow did do everything in his power to protect Oz, at any cost.

- it was a curse to Oz. To have to see the man he loved not remember him, to have to bond with him all over again, to have to see him get killed over and over and over and over again just because he wanted to protect him.

- but he kept going with it. Because it would be inevitable, their first meeting. Oz had tried, tried to do everything in his power to make sure Qrow wouldn’t find him or come near him, and yet always he found a way. So he tried to make the best of it.

- cherished every moment with Qrow, made every single moment up until his inevitable death worth it in the end.

- Qrow always has this feeling of deja vu when he sees certain photos from completely different times, like he was there almost, but he can’t quite place it.

- Qrow struggles with remembering things already of remembering things wrong, so he never truly quite thought about it.

- He did find it strange that Oz seemed to recognize him though. He had never met Oz before so how could he know?

- Oz is, well, a strange but interesting man. One who Qrow finds it quite enjoyable to be around, never a dull moment.

- Decaying Future, ah his ever so cherished sword. It wasn’t like the other swords you’d see other hunters wielding, it didn’t have any sort of fancy transformation. But Qrow was ok with that, ok with simplicity.

- it’s funny, he feels like he’s had it for lifetimes. But unfortunately due to his bad memory, even if you asked him where he got it from, he could never tell you. Sucks to have a bad memory I guess.

- he knows he got it from somewhere, somewhere familiar, and he knows he named it, but it’s too foggy for him to actually tell you.

- He gets a similar feeling with Oz, that feeling of vague familiarity. But he tends to brush it aside.

- even though Oz may be considered crazy, strange, or even scary to some people, he wasn’t anything like that to Qrow. He was nice, caring, and a pretty funny guy!

- Qrow would do anything to protect that kindness from whoever may hurt Oz. Like his life depended on it. He always was outcasted from his family, his tribe, his fellow classmates, even strangers. There was no way he’d let the one person who actually cares, die, because of his incompetency.

- and so he did, signing up and being accepted to be Oz’s personal protective hunter (fancy way of saying guard in Qrow’s eyes). It wasn’t hard to find that position, Oz was a highly respected council member, he needed to be protected anyway.

(We going lighthearted in this bc I need to stop being angsty for 2 seconds djfndndnnd)

- these two, no matter what lifetime, are the ultimate power couple

- sass(tm) from both of them

- any cuddles from my other headcanons but like 10x because Oz doesn’t wanna let go of his bird husband ever

- Qrow has to bribe or pry Oz off of him. It doesn’t always work.

- Qrow likes to call Oz a nerd when in reality he’s a huge hypocrite cuz there’s only so much you learn in history and he seems to know a lot more than that.

- Oz will say random things in a loving tone to Qrow, literally he mentioned something about bread in Mistralian and made Qrow laugh incredibly hard.

- Oz was embarrassed the rest of the day because he didn’t know that Qrow could speak Mistralian. He has made a few other comments in a dead language that he is very glad Qrow does NOT understand because there’s no way he could say that to Qrow in a language he understands without getting flustered (take that for what you will. It’s up to interpretation, personally I think its really sappy stuff but hey, imagine whatever)

- bookworms, they read to eachother

- both will give each other their weapon to fight with, even sometimes trading.

- during a small war that Oz was involved with in a previous life, Qrow gave him Decaying Future as a means to defend himself in the war.

- they normally have their weapons near one another.

- they both are normally near one another. You can’t find one without the other.

- both mischief makers, quiet, but still mischief makers.

I have a another question about localization since you say all of the FE localizations are good but then there's the localization I hear about of FE fates a localize game that I hear so many Nintendo and FE fans say really bad things about it such as a lot of Mistranslations, Big Script changes, Memes being add in, etc also there was some censorship that got some of them really mad and with some of them saying that it's the wrost localize game of all time is it really that bad as they say?

Whew, this ask has been sitting in my inbox for actual months! Sorry for taking so long to respond! It’s probably unsurprising, but there’s so much to unpack here, and just deciding what to write had me going in circles for a long time.

I’m not entirely satisfied with this answer, but if I tried to discuss everything I have in mind about the Fates localization at once, I’d never be done. So I stuck to 5 topics to give a basic summary. If anyone wants to follow up on one particular issue for more info, or know more about something I didn’t discuss here, please do! I’d love to round out my argument.

First off - a little history just to get our minds situated into the history of localization. Bad localization has always existed, in fact that’s pretty much all we had in the 80’s and somewhat into the 90’s until it became clear that video games were going to become very complex in story and text going forward. Even a surface look into old localizations like this one tells a very long story. We have to remember that “bad” localization is everywhere, and it’s just always going to exist, even now that we have professional teams dedicated to localization, so long as humans aren’t perfect, time crunch is standard in the gaming industry, and we all have our own definition of “good”.

Next, here’s the short answer to the question:

When I say “overall” good, I do stress that pretty heavily, because of course there are plenty of changes that each individual player of the game will have their own take on. The Fire Emblem games simply have so much text in them that even a hundred small mistranslations or changes are just a drop in the bucket.

But I do agree that Fates is one of the worst of the FE localizations, if your terms are in number of changes from the Japanese. Awakening’s is up there too.

Yeah, Awakening’s localization has a lot of questionable moments too. I know this take isn’t a surprise to all fans. But ever since Fates came out, I’ve seen people praising Awakening’s localization, and saying that 8-4 (an outside studio often hired by Nintendo, they localized Awakening) is an amazing localization team and Treehouse (Nintendo’s own team, did Fates) is garbage. TBH… They both did a job that has huge ups and downs. Are people really doomed to always forget the flaws that the previous installment in a series had as soon as something new comes out? Ha ha.

I think it’s common knowledge at this point that localizations are not made for the people who want a more direct-to-the-Japanese version. And that sucks, and the feelings of anger, disappointment, etc. in those who wanted a more direct translation are perfectly valid and entirely understandable.

But we really, really need to understand and accept that localizations are made for the target audience/culture as a whole, and to sell to the most people possible. By getting angry and rejecting the entire game’s script as “total changes,” “butchering,” “changing the games to fit the localization team’s motives,” and all sorts of other toxic nonsense, we miss out on all of the nuance that actually exists. We rob ourselves of the fun that could be had analyzing whether or not the localizers did their job of adapting the game to the target audience, and how they might have done it better. And we can’t notice and appreciate all of the times the team did do a great or good job.

In the vast majority of cases, localizers only want those who play their games and read their scripts to have fun! To imply anything else is just wrong.

What I feel I can do here, to define if “the localization is as bad as they say,” is debunk these “all or nothing” arguments, and show that the changes aren’t usually anywhere near as drastic or simple as people make them sound.

Now let’s goooooo!

I read these two articles to prepare myself to write this, link here, and link here, which I got off a quick Google search. They are from the time of Fates’ release, and report on how a lot of people generally felt back then, so I found them to be good references to put myself back in time with the thoughts people had then.

Character Changes

These often tend to be the biggest topics of conversation. Hisame will be my topic of more detailed discussion today, but I’ll bring other characters up for a hot second too.

I can never stress this enough, but Hisame made pickles in the Japanese. He was always talking about them in the Japanese, too. (Fates loves supports revolving around food in general, really.) I think people generally know this to be true? But I did read some comments saying that the pickle love was totally made up in the localization, you can see the proof above, so I had to point it out.

I don’t think a lot of people who have talked about his character picked up on this - admittedly, I didn’t until someone close to me explained it - but the main gag of Hisame’s character is that he’s young, but already acting like an old man. He lectures his own father on how to behave, etc., and makes pickles. And the “acting like an old man” is not totally lost in translation, with him still acting serious and lecturing his father. But the making pickles trait… I’d never pin that as an “old man” stereotype as a US American. Well, now I would, because I know Japanese culture well enough… but anyway.

And this is where the cultural differences come in. The number of people farming and making traditional foods from scratch is dwindling fast in Japan. In just five years there, I watched countless rice paddies and other small produce fields be turned into houses or apartment buildings. The elderly farmers are becoming too old to care for their crops, and their kids choose to pursue other careers, so the family sells off the farmland. Following along this trend is traditional pickle making. You can just buy them ready to eat in the supermarket, so why make your own? Most people don’t even have the space to be making them if they wanted to. And so, pickle making has come to be seen as something old people do. It fits in with Hisame’s “old man” character perfectly.

But again, as an American, I never would have figured that out without knowledge about Japan. Of course you could argue that the localizers didn’t need to change anything about him. The making pickles was quirky and unique, and would give you a chuckle as is. But there was space to make him funnier, so they did. That is, after all, was what the Japanese intended, for it to be funny. It’s not funny in the same way… but sometimes it’s impossible to be.

And that is what is most important in localization between two wildly different languages like Japanese and English - not retaining the same words, but the same intention or mood. The same words can convey a totally different meaning or mood, or make no sense, because of cultural differences. So localizers need to achieve the same mood, not the same words. I have come to see people understand this much better as the years go on, and the general gaming population becomes more learned about what localization is.

Of course, that’s a pretty simplified way of looking at it. But that’s how I summarize localization as a whole, in an easy way to understand. You might not agree with exactly how the localizers did what they did, but I think we might all be able to agree that they were trying to do their job and had no malicious intent to butcher the Japanese original or something absurd like that.

One more thing that’s relevant to this - Japanese people don’t care about repetition so much. The same character tropes are repeated over and over, the same lines are repeated over and over… In the US, we don’t like that! It’s boring and dull! This cultural difference is a constant struggle in localization. A lot of the people who think they want a direct translation don’t realize that it will be boring to them… So localizations alter and add details and lines here and there to give some more variation. This also helps to explain Hisame’s changes to talk even more about pickles.

And I’ve seen many a comment from people saying they liked Hisame in the localization. They found his exaggerated pickle lines fun, and enjoyed many good laughs. How can we call his new characterization outright bad when it worked for some? When they like it more than a straight Japanese translation? He’s still essentially the same guy… just some of the things he says are different. That’s not much of a change at all.

...And back to that original screenshot I showed. Isn’t Hisame still serious in the localization? His lines are funny, but I’m under the impression that he himself is still dead serious. ...Anyway. That’s about all I have to say about Hisame.

Many characters have changed lines. There’s no disputing that. But something to always question is how far do these changes go? Did the localizers completely change the intent or tone of the original? Or are they playing up certain character traits the characters always had in the Japanese? Or is something else going on?

This is also a prime example of how shallow some articles or “analysis” into the Fates localization are. You can’t look at one line change and make a sweeping conclusion about an entire character. Always be suspect of stuff like this. Kana ALWAYS acted like a little kid. That’s their entire schtick. They are your cute little mama/papa loving kid. That one line may have changed that scene significantly, but Kana’s whole character? No, not at all.

Even Kana’s S support changes aren’t as simple as it seems. They aren’t all changed. The 2nd gen characters that Kana is close in age to retain their romantic endings, such as Midori. Only those considerably older than Kana turned platonic.

And Effie, another character commonly cited as changed? She wasn’t radically changed from some deep character to a one-note workout buff. If only a conclusion could be that easy to reach. Overall, on this specific aspect of Effie, the localization simply added in extra strength or workout jokes when the opportunity arose. Some workout jokes were in the Japanese! She was always an extremely devoted retainer who was always working out and training to get stronger so she could better fulfill her duties.

What is MUCH more interesting in my opinion is the issue of her femininity. In the Japanese, her speech nearly always trailed off with ellipses, and she had feminine voice acting. Whereas in the English, all of that femininity is stripped away with a deep voice, and virtually no ellipses. How refreshing it would have felt in English for Effie to have retained that femininity! Women can bench press trees and be feminine! It would be unique to see a female character like that. ...Or so a US American might think.

But from what I understand, strong female characters in Japanese entertainment are nearly always very feminine. They send a clear message: “You can be whatever you want in private, so long as you still fit the girly-girl mold in public and fulfill society's expectations for you!!” In the Japanese, Effie is fitting their stereotype.

So in one way of looking at it, Effie wasn’t really changed, because in both Japanese and English, she paints a stereotypical and the most socially accepted image of a physically powerful female in each culture. ...That’s an interpretation of mine, anyway. I’m not sure how many people would agree with it.

...See what I mean, that the answer of “changed or unchanged” really isn’t as straightforward as “are the lines translated directly?”

Looking into the deeper details creates a much more interesting picture! You come to paint a picture in your mind, without even thinking about it, of what the localizers intended to do, and you can at least understand what they were thinking. This forms a much more accurate conclusion on whether or not the team achieved a good localization, and whether or not that sacrificed the intent of the original.

So as you can see, few issues are as bad as they’ve been blown up to be. None of the characters are completely different from their Japanese counterparts, or anything so extreme. They were just localized. Whether or not they were localized well, is up to each person’s opinion.

...I do want to write about Soleil, as an example of someone who I think could have been localized better, but I’ll save that for another day. It’s gonna get long. If anyone is interested in seeing this post, just remind me every couple of months or so until I find the time and write it, thanks in advance.

Memes

Since I mentioned Kana’s dragon speak in the last section, this is a perfect time to transition into my feelings about memes, aka context-specific humor. I agree with the most commonly shared opinion: memes don’t belong in localization. Though it’s not just because of a simple “change from the Japanese is bad!!!!” approach. In my opinion, the best localizations will be as timeless as possible. I want my future self and everyone else who will play the game in the years to come to enjoy the game as much as possible.

Memes come in and out of fashion so quickly that they’re almost guaranteed to be out of date by the time they release. And only the most popular of popular stories will be widely-known enough for most everyone to get the reference. Of course, it’s pretty difficult to know what expressions and such people will remember and use 10, 20, or 30 years down the line. Some language you think will be timeless will fall out of style. But using memes and references that are not likely to appeal to as many people as possible… that’s one of the few things I can almost universally call “bad localization.”

Unless, of course, the game was intended in the Japanese to be a product of its time, and used a lot of references. That’s a whole different ball game.

Accurate translation, much less full localization, requires creative thinking to recreate the tone and intent of the original.

Here’s another example that showcases another couple of things I find really important to localization.

Number 1: The writer of the article said “The American localization … gives her silly lines that aren’t in the original.” But does it really “give” her anything new at all? I’d argue not. Tottemo is commonly translated as ‘really’ or something like that… but doesn’t ‘super-dupity’ convey the same meaning as ‘really’? Just because an English word isn’t given as a common definition for a Japanese word, doesn’t mean it can’t be a definition. Sometimes… a word we don’t commonly think of as a translation for the Japanese, can still be a perfectly valid translation. This is not an addition. Just an uncommon translation of the Japanese word.

Number 2: Japanese has a wide range of “I” and “you” pronouns, sentence endings, and other little things that define character age, personality, gender, and more, that simply don’t exist in English. To not use similar features of English when localizers find opportunities to do so, would just take away that sense of nuance the Japanese had in utilizing their language’s own unique features.

Of course it’s one possibility that Sophie uses kiddy words. She’s not a little kid, but she’s still pretty young! To have everyone use the same word choice, because that’s how the words translate into English, is not only inaccurate to how real people talk, but also inaccurate to how the original Japanese was used. Since many equivalents for Japanese word and grammar choice that define personality do not exist in English, the localizers have to use what does exist in English in new places. I think that makes sense, and creates a much closer script to the Japanese than just translating the words.

Again, it’s all about how we look at the lines!

I see a lot of people define “translation” as “one-to-one recreation of the Japanese words.” To reinforce what I said in the first section, I do not think this is true. To me, translating is recreating the same tone, mood, meaning, and message of the original. You CANNOT achieve that just by translating the words and grammar alone.

Different words conveying the same overall meaning.

This section is really just a continuation of the previous one. But reinforcing central arguments over and over again is the core of good essay writing.

So this is one of my strategies for deciding whether or not a script is a good or bad translation/localization: “Does the script convey the same basic meaning?” (or tone, etc.)

Changes, adding detail to what the Japanese said, and “playing-up,” are all wildly different things.

So first, I break down the bit of dialogue into as few words as possible.

-Nohr royals inherit dragon blood.

-So they have superhuman power.

...And then I look to see if the localization conveyed that same basic meaning. Which, in this case, I think it did. Your mileage may vary, but I think I’ve made my point at least.

I wanted this scene to be one of the five I addressed because I think it exemplifies yet another of the fascinating differences between Japanese and English. Japanese is a language that likes to be vague, and leave out context that is already established. Speech can seem super boring as few characters say anything unique. (At least… that’s how us English speakers see it! Japanese people think they are just being normal, and not vague or boring at all!) ...English, not so much. So much as leaving out the subject of the sentence is chastised as incorrect grammar. And we like unique dialogue and prose more than most other languages.

I saw one person in the comments of the article I got this visual from argue that the tone is totally different, that the Japanese was more of a history lesson, but the localization is trying to pump Corrin and Leo up for battle, but… eh, I just don’t see it. The English also just feels like he is describing the powers of their bloodline to me. Again, that’s why this is so complex and fascinating, because everyone has their own viewpoints they are coming from.

The “direct translation” and “localization” reach the same message. This isn’t a big change in my opinion at all.

Sometimes mistakes happen...

These interpretations of Saizo and Beruka’s C Support have always boggled my mind. Coming up with all these explanations as to why the omission was done on purpose to completely erase the support when… it just seems… obvious to me… that the localization team never wrote or programmed a translation and shipped the game with the placeholder?

After all, if the localization team felt they had to remove or change content that might be questionable for the target audience, wouldn’t they alter or rewrite the conversation, like they have with Soleil’s supports, for example? This very game has multiple examples of proof that the localizers will rewrite entire chunks of script if they feel it makes the scene better fit what the target audience be more comfortable with.

Mistakes happen. That’s all I think Saizo and Beruka’s C Support is. We probably never got an update just because Nintendo doesn’t have a track record of being the best with those.

Of course, I may be wrong. Nintendo and Treehouse keep pretty much all of their processes a secret. But I never, ever would have imagined on my own that Saizo and Beruka’s support was omitted on purpose. Citing this as a reason why we need to be up in arms about bad localization is so absurd to me.

Mistakes happen. It’s not like the Japanese creators didn’t have embarrassing moments with underdeveloped content in this game either… they didn’t even name the continent in this game!

Sometimes, “bad” localization is just human error. It’s something we can’t eliminate entirely, and will just have to accept.

Final thoughts:

I realize that this analysis, for as long as it is, is very short, and still leaves out so much that could be talked about.

But what I hope that it did was not really help convince readers that the Fates localization is actually good, exactly… but helped to create some more balance in how we look at the Fates localization and localizations as a whole. All localization changes have a reason and nuance to how they ended up happening, and it’s important to be thinking from that perspective when we discuss them!

The Sermon of (My Current) LIFE

Standing at the altar of my hometown church, I feels surreal. My hands holding the micorphone as I look out into a hundred faces…

All the while, never did I imagine I would be here where I am now, standing before all of these faces of my youth…but none of us really ever know do we?

God leads us to places we could never imagine.

I was an anxious child. as many people remind me of the way I stuck close to my parents.

but now I know it was the anxiety to get out into the world and see what else it was God had created besides myself and what I had already known.

I went to an international art school.

upon graduating I didn’t know what to do.

no job felt right.

I had this hunger to see where so many of my friends were from.

I prayed to the lord and I reminded Him that he was in control.

I acknowledged and spoke—

“you are my guide

and you are in control

of my ride.

I am just here enjoying the breeze.

take me where i need to go— i trust you”

And so the lord brought me many places—

each experience mysteriously preparing me for the next.

Each experience being the grace of God

people ask me, how did you get these jobs??

And honestly, all were the through the grace of God—all through who I knew through the church.

So many times I didn’t know where to go.

In result, I prayed it was all the power of God.

I acknowledged my needs of Christ through prayer.

The church— God is the base of all things

never did I truly see that until this experience.

4 years ago I came back from a life-changing experience in rural China.

An experience so unique and so special.

That is an entire other story for another day. I arrived home from China, and remember feeling like my entire life was all wrong.

I was depressed.

everything I had known before felt so different.

and no one could understand what I was going through.

no one knew or could ever know the personal life-changing experience I endured in that rural china town.

I felt like I a giant who could not fit into the human home id always known.

I was lost.

but God could understand me. and he brought me where I needed to go.

I researched everything to go and get out into the world again.

but I also had people telling me to find “a real job”

I tried finding whatever a real job was,

but felt it wasn’t right.

I struggled with that. too much.

my life felt hopeless.

but I got through it, and God answered my prayers.

God always knows what we know deep down.

And God leads us down this strict path.

God knows we have doubts, but he keeps us going down that path because WE prayed for him to lead us and guide us.

so I surrendered my doubts to Him and said, “TAKE ME WHERE I NEED TO GO”

its what we all should do. honestly.

it can change your life.

so, one day I was at the church with my Mom, and she was talking to people as usual. I just kept looking at her, like, let’s goooooo. Then, I looked down… I came across this brochure I had never noticed before…

It was for ELCA global missions YAGM—volunteer program.

I applied, interviewed, and was denied for my “overqualifications”.

I did not understand it. “WTF. WHY????”, I thought.

And so I went on to the next adventure.

I’d wanted to go to Spain, so I took some time there trying to figure out what I needed. I went there to live with a family (I found on the internet) who needed help with their English.

While in Spain, I got this email from ELCA Global Mission saying they had needed this paid position filled, and someone had given my resume.

Suddenly I realized why I did not get that volunteer position. This new position was much better with pay and amazing benefits.

They asked if I would be interested.

OBVIOUSLY.

And obviously, I got the job because here I am almost three years later!

God always provides. We may not understand something at the moment, but we have to step back and look at the big picture.

Last week I was at a conference with ELCA- Global Mission in Chicago.

I was speaking with someone who said:

“life is like a big painting. sometimes we get to close to one aspect, we move in and cover our eyes to focus on that one spot. we get so close that it becomes dark from the shadow. That is how we are when we become obsessed with one aspect of our lives. it is important to step back and remember that there is a whole picture. we need that entire picture to explain the small detail.”

It is so true. And God always knows that picture.

We can not worry about one aspect. especially when we have the power to respond to a situation in any way we like. We are in control of our minds and how to respond.

It is important to keep that faith in Jesus. For our own sanity.

The three years in Tokyo have shot by. I have experienced so many things in that time. that have helped progress the time.

My term was ending and I did not feel like I was finished.

I had felt like my time had only begun,

and a blessing, I was asked to extend my time there.

the church was going through a lot of transition.

we needed consistency and we needed someone who knew this location well.

So what do I do?

I work for ELCA: Global mission who partners with other Evangelical Lutheran organizations all over the world. I have colleagues all over Africa, Israel, Germany, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, India, Brazil, Columbia, Argentina… the list goes on… I, as well as many others, are based in Japan. But I am the only one in Tokyo.

So ELCA works with the JELC: Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church, who has special programs with churches around Tokyo.

I am based at two locations in Tokyo: there is Hongo Lutheran Church who has a community Student Center and Koishikawa Lutheran Church who owns and operates a Girls Dormitory

I attend Hongo Lutheran Church each Sunday where I help with church activities and also teach Sunday morning English bible study. During the week I also go here and conduct English Conversation classes which sometimes result in more of a counseling session.

I have all ages… from 3 - 9-year-olds all the way to elderly adults in their 80s.

Many middle-aged moms come. and we have nice conversations and lessons about culture and self-love.

Honestly, when I was younger I loved kids. but after living in Spain, they kind of freaked me out. Then going to Tokyo I was forced to create classes for these little ones who did not know English. but God flows through me and somehow it happens. Now I love little kids and especially my little kids.

They are amazing. It is so cool how I, a 27 year old English speaking native can have inside jokes with little kids who speak Japanese natively.

My kids feel so comfortable and happy to come to the center each week.

My three and four-year-olds wear their princess dresses to class. It is awesome. They will dress up specifically for their thirty-minute sessions. Then we will sing and dance together. I have a little boy who has a stutter. He is three and is super self-conscious of it. He won’t speak. He will only tap and point. But he loves to come. The purpose is not to learn English but to feel welcome and loved. Each week he will bring a different toy to show me. He is always so proud.

In Tokyo, they don’t use cars. It takes to long. Moms have “mom bikes” verse “mom SUVs”. They tote their kids around on motorized bikes with car seats. Or they will walk if its close enough. So I just imagine these kids coming each week with these big toys and princess dresses walking down the street or on their bikes… so cute.

A lot of the mothers of my kids also will come to the adult classes.

I have kind of created a “moms class” and they come and talk about their lives and kids together in English.

Many elder students. I have students in their 70s and 80s. They make their way there every week. They have illnesses but they come! Its always awesome to talk to them about their lives. Many have come for almost twenty years, but have the same beginners English. We talk together through translations. One lady comes every week after her doctor’s appointment. Every week she shows her large full bag of medications. And every week I ask what it is. And every week she tells me. Every week she checks out my outfit and tries on my jacket. Every week she shows off her outfit and asks “how much?”… every week is a joy. Every week this lady comes to feel wanted. That is what I do.

Last year I started teaching English Zumba! I never taught Zumba or any type of exercise officially. but a student had approached me and asked to consider it… so I did. We have new students who come just to dance. We hold the class in the sanctuary one Sunday a month. It is a lot of fun. at the end of the class, we meditate on this Christian song called “Oceans” by Hillsong United. The parents especially love it to relieve stress.

This year I have started teaching English Photography classes.

Two Saturdays a month we meet— I present techniques and they go home and make prints and come back the next class for a critique and another lecture. It has been really great! A longtime student of mine—her parents are architects in Tokyo. they come to the class and it’s just really interesting to see their photos and hear about their work…

I have started these two classes specifically to get more people in the community to join our center. Why? English conversation is a difficult market. Especially in a busy city like Tokyo. Having classes with two ways of learning is good for Japanese who are busy and want to learn more than just English. They can come and learn photography, English, and build a nice community.

The second location I work at is the Girls Dormitory…

The dormitory is owned and operated by a Lutheran church. A majority of the girls who stay there are not Christian. And that is ok because true Christians do not discriminate or judge.

In Japan, Universities have dorms, but it is more common for them to stay in community dorms. Maybe it is cheaper.

Some girls come from out of state or country to study high school or college and stay in a dorm like this.

So my students are from all over Japan.

Some girls who stay there are returning students who were raised abroad with their families whose fathers work for a Japanese company in another country. Here I have an office where the girls can come to and talk with me. depending on their reason for the study, we have different topics. Usually, we talk about culture and have fun activities. The dorm gives me an allowance to do fun things with the girls. We have parties or go to dinners every once in a while.

They love when I have holiday parties at my home. We usually watch a Christmas movie like ELF and decorate Christmas cookies. I try to share with them, the real American way. Basically, my work is to share love and joy. Not talk about the word of God, but SHOW IT.

That is what we Christians should be doing every day. People do not respond to words, but they respond to action and spirit. And to tell people there is just a special story for each of us… big or small, we all have an important part in this world. your single existence is crucial to the balance of the universe.

We each have the opportunity to have a story as long as we turn it over to God with faith.

Look a the Bible… so many stories. The Lord has a special plan for each of us. No matter who we are and what bad we have done in our lives. WE are each redeemable.

Noah was a drunk, Moses was a murderer… God redeemed them with important tasks.

Many of us are not Noah or Moses. We have not done such bad, but the Lord does not judge based on that. The Lord wants us to thrive. Allow yourself to listen to what YOUR story is that the Lord is saving for YOU. Smile to people who seem sad. Share the joy. Your one small gesture has the ability to change someone’s entire day, and that person will go on to inspire another and another. It’s the ripple effect.

that is our mission as Christians. NOT to make people Christians, but to heal people. Make people feel loved. Make people feel inspired to live their life and shine brightly just as they were meant to. Our mission is to share the peace and understanding; share the unconditional love.

In your work, in your path, you have an opportunity to bring change. No matter what your job is. You have the power to inspire and save a life with a smile. You have the power to react the way you choose.

All this time and it is easy to forget what brought me here in the first place. those are my experiences.

We need those experiences. They are the small roads that lead you to the major intersections that take you to this big destination. Enjoy your path and remember to ask GOD for guidance.

Tell God you trust in him and the path he needs to you take. On that path, make sure you inspire and share this with those who may not know it either

Okay so I made a pretty big work about yotuns in the MCU(I don’t count comics bc movies create another universe) and I found out some interesting things about them.

First I want to start with their anatomy and physiology.I am not a doctor but I think I have the right to talk about that.

Skin.

It’s obvious,their skin is blue for them to merge with the territory to hunt,hide, etc.Blue skin makes them almost invisible in dark blue Yotunheim.But they have these dark patterns on their skin mostly about them I want to talk.

Firstly I thought what they are just veins but it’s only a half of the truth.

As I matched not all creatures of Yotunheim have these like this Dragon

Or this yotun.

I only see some scars on his chest and maybe he has something on his face but let’s look on Laufey again.

His body is fully covered by them,his face,bust,belly,arms etc.What are they then?

I guess what these are veins not with blood but with magic or these are family patterns.The first doesn’t really fit because every yotun in a fight with Thor,Loki,Lady Sif And The Warrior three used ice magic (let it gooooo let it goooooo).But Laufey awoken the Dragon(can I just call him dragon?) by breaking the giant amounts of ice what looked like there was an earthquake.I don’t think every yotun can do that.And he has used the casket of Ancient Winters for centuries and he is a direct descendant of the first yotun Aurgelmir.The p Ancient creatures in Marvel are the most powerful look at Galactus,Grandmaster,Eternity,Nemezida etc(from the comics).The same thing is with Asirs.I’ve never seen an asir in films which is not a descendant of Buri but wields power like Thor.You might say “But Yana did you forget Frigga? She is not the sister or daughter of Odin but she has her power of reading minds and future vision” No I haven’t. “I was raised by witches” says Frigga to Thor in Avengers Endgame.She wasn’t born with her power she was taught.The only asirs what have the chaotic energy of cosmos or magic in their blood are Buri’s descendants( Bor,Odin,Thor) So we can say what Laufey wields the power of Aurgelmir And is the most powerful out of his kind on the moment of Thor 1.

Also when Loki uses the casket of Ancient Winters on Heimdall we can see these patterns show up on his face and hands.

So in conclusion I think what these patterns are the magic strength indicators.But this theory cracks when we remember what Loki already had these when he was a baby.

But what if I What I say what our little prince has magic inside? What if these patterns are not just “strength indicators” (they show what this creature has the power of Aurgelmir inside) but also indicators of Argelmir’s bloodline.They are just pale bc Loki never used it.

2. Eyes

This is kinda obvious too.Have you ever seen 3D glasses where one eye is blue and the other one is red?

If you look only through the red one your eyes will start to hurt bc it’s too harsh.Everything seems more contrast what is very useful in dark,monotone realm.

3. Origin

I already said what Loki and Laufey are descendants of Aurgelmir but where did other yotuns came from? I think what in Marvel Aurgelmir came from a Big Bang or like in myths out of Yotunheim’s poisonous and unbreakable ice(maybe this power was enclosed in the casket of Ancient Winters) and the Fire of Muspelheim(probably the Eternal Flame) And firstly wasn’t pretty intelligent and or while trying to control his powers or by his interesting actions appeared something between Dragons of Yotunheim and Yotuns which later divided in the process of evolution.

omg i'm so sorry for your loss, and that must've been SO hard to watch during that time. i watched it during one of my more depressed months, i'm not sure but i was feeling very... small and insignificant. i still do, but.. funny enough i was feeling like if i passed no one would know me, cause i feel like i don't really open myself up to ppl. they just know what i show. so when they go to people's homes and help them 'move' and find out their story through their things it really made me think what my story will me & i keep thinking about it ever since. and oh i cried so fucking hard the ep he found out about his brother. like my head hurt soooo much. & yes i cried during the tree scene too. god :( they really left it open ended but its def a show that deserves another season. i really want to see this little found family again. ive actually been thinking about rewatching shows that helped me feel something and i'll probably rewatch this again soon 🥲 i feel like it doesn't get talked about as much but it was so good (unless it was just cause i didnt watch it when it was on air)

it was hard but it did let me work through a lot of stuff. THAT SUMS UP THE FEELING PERFECTLY. small. insignificant. had me sitting in my room looking around at my stuff pondering ‘when i go what will my ‘story’ be? what will my stuff say?’

the drama hurt me so much that by the end i was bawling over the smallest things cjwjjxjd but that tree scene and the brother thing?? AND THE SFUFF WITH HIS DAD?? the car scene with na mu and geu ru?? the dynamics and relationship and little found family that existed is everything. i did hear s2 might be a thing but it’s been so long since there has been an update :(

ALL RIGHT. HERE WE GO. DISNEY PRINCESS HOGWARTS HOUSING LET’S FUCKIN’ GOOOOOO

I DON'T GIVE A FUCK. BEEN ON A HOGWARTS HOUSE KICK. LET'S DO IT. IN ORDER. ALL OF THEM. WITH ACTUAL GOOD REASONING.

MY HOUSING METHOD IS AS FOLLOWS

The Houses are separated using two different axes. The first is Aggressive vs Passive. This axis dictates whether a House is primarily an active participant in life who doesn't want to "settle for less" or more likely to just go with the flow and take the hand dealt to them, Hakuna Matata style. The Aggressive Houses are Gryffindor and Slytherin. The Passive Houses are Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.

The second axis is Society Accepting vs Society Rejecting. This axis dictates whether a House sees itself as a member of society and acknowledges it's rules (even if it doesn't always follow them), or sees itself as an outlier to society, thinking that the rules need not exist at all (whether they agree with them or not.) TO BE CLEAR: REJECTING DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE A LONELY SOCIOPATH AND ACCEPTING DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE A MINDLESS YES MAN. The Society Accepting Houses are Hufflepuff and Slytherin. The Society Rejecting Houses are Gryffindor and Ravenclaw.

So, you find out on which side of each axis you land on. Most important, though, is to remember that your House comes from the WHY behind your actions, not the actions themselves. So, along with their full axis orientations, here is the main WHY behind each House:

Gryffindor: To spread their specific core values through their actions. (Aggressive Society Rejecting)

Hufflepuff: To be useful to humanity in every situation. (Passive Society Accepting)

Ravenclaw: To do what they want, when they want, as much as they want to. (Passive Society Rejecting)

Slytherin: To realize their dreams and become the greatest version of themselves they can. (Aggressive Society Accepting)

So, without further ado, here is my Housing, below the cut.

Snow White - Hufflepuff

This one will likely go undisputed. First off, is Snow White Aggressive in her story, or Passive? Well, Snow White is one of the queens of taking what she’s given and making it work. She dreams at her wishing well for her Prince, but she’s found a way to make her current life as a scullery maid bearable. She pretty much rolls with the punches from beginning to end. Evil Queen makes her a scullery maid, she’s gonna make it work. Huntsman tells her to run, she’s gonna make it work. Winds up living with a bunch of dwarves, she’s gonna make it work. This narrows her down to either Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

Second, is Snow White Society Accepting or Society Rejecting? Does she see herself as a valuable member of humanity as a whole, connected to everyone, or is she an island, separate and different from those around her? I’d easily say she’s Accepting. She believes in helping and doing her share and wants to be seen as useful. This would make her a Hufflepuff.

So, is Snow White’s WHY “to be useful to humanity in every situation?” I’d definitely say so. She’s very determined to do her part and to never be a burden. She is hardworking, often seen with her nose to the grindstone, and sees no job as being beneath her. It’s a job and every job needs to get done. Hufflepuffs often see the world as a giant machine, made up of millions of cogs. The only way the machine can work is if every cog is working at tip top form. So, Snow White is always at tip top form, always humble, never extravagant or over the top. She’s practical and sensible and gets the job done.

Cinderella - Hufflepuff

Very similar story to Snow. The basic moral of both of their fairy tales is “if you are hardworking and patient, good things will come your way.” So, first, is Cindy Passive or Aggressive? I’d argue Passive. Yes, she does eventually escape the clutches of Lady Tremaine, but that is only after she had an out handed to her. For all the time before then, she had been content with dreaming of her escape. More important to her was sticking it to her family by keeping her composure under her dire circumstances. She would remain passive and stoic, fighting their cruelty by never letting them see how it affected her. Her defense was becoming a rock; immovable, unbreakable, and ultimately Passive. This makes her either Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

Second, is she Society Accepting or Society Rejecting? I’d definitely say Accepting. She sees the caste system within her household as something to be worked through and endured, rather than rejecting it altogether and being rebellious. She doesn’t think she is someone who SHOULD be invited to the ball, although she still wants to attend. And even when she gets a chance to go, she worries about societal concerns; she can’t go unless she has a dress, some shoes, a coach, etc, not because she is selfish (quite the contrary), but because these are the things people who attend balls have. This would officially make her a Hufflepuff.

As a Hufflepuff, is Cinderella’s WHY “to be useful to humanity in every situation?” Absolutely. Cinderella is just as hardworking and humble as Snow White, if not a bit less trusting. Cinderella never does anything halfway, even if she doesn’t like the person who gave her the task. The task needs to be done, regardless of who assigns it to whom. Being a productive and useful human being matters most to her, to rebel and not complete these tasks she perceives as important would be much worse than her own suffering. It takes her Fairy Godmother reminding her that gaining her own happiness is the most important task to complete for her to begin wanting to change her situation.

Aurora - Ravenclaw

Our first different princess! So, to go back through my process, is Aurora Passive or Aggressive? Ultimately, passive. She shows much more outward discomfort in than both Snow White and Cinderella when things don’t go her way, but she still tends to just go with the flow. Although she cried on her bed about not getting to see Phillip, she accepts what has been given to her and goes with her fairy guardians. She was very content with just living in her cottage with her guardians in the middle of the woods. No need for anything beyond that. It’s the hand she was dealt, and she is content. So, she’s either a Hufflepuff or a Ravenclaw, like the others.

Now, here comes the surprise. Is Aurora Society Accepting or Society Rejecting? I honestly believe that Aurora rejects society and its norms. A Society Accepting type, after learning they were actually a princess, would feel sad that they couldn’t be with the boy they just met that day, but would take on this new task handed to them with grace and gusto. A Society Accepting would have been shocked, maybe scared, and then determined to become a good princess. Their new boyfriend would have entered their mind as another obligation, most likely as an afterthought, but they ultimately would have seen this new task as more important. Duty over desire. Not Aurora. Aurora is horrified to hear of her status as a princess. She mopes over it to no end. Why? Because, she had a dream about wanting a boyfriend, got a boyfriend, and now “society” and it’s “norms” are telling her she can’t have it!! What?? Who cares if she’s a princess and has “responsibilities.” She just wants to keep on living in her cabin with her forest-boyfriend. She only accepts becoming a princess after she realizes she gets to keep her guy. There isn’t very much to work with character wise with Aurora, but of the little she did, I just couldn’t find an example of her wanting to participate as a productive member of society. She just wanted to dance around with her forest friends. This would mean she must be a Ravenclaw.

Now, as a Ravenclaw, is Aurora’s WHY “to do what she wants, when she wants, as much as she wants to?” I would say YES. Since she is the first Ravenclaw, I’ll go a little deeper. Ravenclaws, due to being Passive and Society Rejecting, are usually best described as.... odd. They are usually found off in their own world, doing things in their own way, at their own speed. They feel no yearn to connect with society as a whole and would rather be doing their own thing. There are lots of things about Aurora that would seem “odd.” Her reaction to finding out she’s a princess is definitely entirely unique to her. Ravenclaws will very often leave the people around them confused with their reactions to things that society (or in the case of Gryffindors, morals) would deem as important, often shrugging them off or finding them outright abhorrent. Meanwhile, they laud some of the strangest achievements, like finding your Literal Dream Boyfriend, as more important.

Ariel - Slytherin

Yep. I know. Waiting for the debates. But, anyway, let’s start from the beginning. FIrst off, is Ariel Passive or Agressive? She is our very first Disney Princess I’d describe as Aggressive. She never accepts the hand that’s dealt to her if she doesn’t like it. She fights and she negotiates and she’s always looking for a way out of her situation. She is everything except Passive. No one would disagree to that.

Now, for the debate. Is Ariel Society Accepting or Society Rejecting? Now, most of you are probably thinking, “What are you, nuts? Of COURSE she’s Society Rejecting! She turns her back on the merfolk without a second thought! She sees herself as an outcast, an outsider! She’s textbook Society Rejecting!” But, I think I need to be a bit more clear about what I mean by “society.” “Society”, as defined in this axis, is not a place, it’s an idea. I guess what I actually mean by society is “connection.” Ariel is simply rejecting one connection for another, one that she finds more fulfilling. Hufflepuffs and Slytherins yearn for connection, for belonging, for validation. They need other people. They need “society”, as an idea. Gryffindors and Ravenclaws do not NEED connection. They may like it, it can be nice to have, but it isn’t required. If anything, the more Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs can differentiate themselves from everyone else they’ve ever met, the better. They want to be seen as different, unique, apart, unlike anyone else. Hufflepuffs and Slytherins want to belong. They want to be seen as exceptional, better, the best, even, but the only way to be that is to be able to be compared to someone else. So, yes, Ariel rejects merfolk society and scoffs at their rules, but she is OBSESSED with fitting into human society and following every one of their customs to a tee. Therefore, keeping all this in mind, Ariel is most likely a Slytherin.

Knowing that many of you still think she is a Gryffindor, let’s compare the WHYs of each House. Is Ariel’s WHY “to spread her specific core values through her actions?” Gryffindors are often the people you find lecturing those around them. Gryffindors are just brimming with advice, and they believe that everyone should just reject any rules that any society would place upon you and, instead, live the way they do. Exactly the way they do. And, here’s how you can do that (whether you want to hear me explain it or not!) Just look at the moralizing Gryffindors from the actual books to compare. Even Fred and George lecture, it not being enough for just them to be goofballs. They think EVERYONE shouldn’t take life seriously, just like they do. Ariel is not a lecturer. She has no grand message to share. Sure, she has morals, everyone does, but she doesn’t try to force anyone else to think the way she does. She doesn’t go around trying to convince anyone else that humans aren’t barbarians unless they start trying to stop her from bettering herself. They can think however they want, they just can’t stop her from thinking the way she wants.

Now, let’s compare. Is Ariel’s WHY “to realize her dreams and become the greatest version of herself she can?” Absolutely! That’s her entire existence. She wants to be where the people are. She wants to not only be human, but to be the BEST human. She wants to learn everything they know and more. She longs to follow their rules and customs, to belong with them. She sees becoming human as the best possible version of herself. This is the difference between the two Society Accepting Houses. Hufflepuffs, being Passive, accept the society they are given. They are realists and pragmatists, wanting to follow and practical, respectable life. Humility is their middle name. But, Slytherins, being Aggressive, don’t always accept the society that’s been handed to them. They want the best they can get and they will do whatever it takes to get that. If the Slytherin does accept the society they are born into, they will quickly try to become the best they can be within that society. They don’t just want to be useful, like Hufflepuffs. They want to be exceptional. Ariel wants to be exceptional. She wants to better herself. She wants to belong. And she does whatever it takes to make those dreams a reality.

Belle - Ravenclaw

After that last controversial one, let’s get a conforming House in here! So, let’s start. Is Belle Passive or Aggressive? I’d say that Belle is a great example to show that “Passive” does not mean “pushover.” Anyone can stand up for themselves and their own personal morals. Belle does this constantly. She stands against diversity and holds her head high where others might bow down. This sort of behavior is not House specific. But, Belle still shows that tell-tale Passive behavior. Although she may dream about getting out of this “provincial life” she seems more content to just accept where she is and make it work. She shows no signs of true rebellion. She can’t escape in real life, so she escapes through her books. This is enough for her. Then, when the Beast makes her his prisoner, rather than trying to escape, she makes it work. She makes friends with the servants, and takes pleasure in defying him so long as he’s rude to her, but otherwise, she makes it work.This would make Belle either Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.

Now, is Belle Society Accepting or Society Rejecting? I’d say Rejecting. Although she dislikes people being cruel to her, using words like “odd”, she seems to take some pride in being different from them. Although she longs for friendship and belonging, what she really wants is to find people who will let her be who she wants to be. She enjoys things that are different, like her, and wants to exist alongside them. Yes, some Society Rejectors can exhibit this ironic behavior. They align themselves with other people who are “odd” or “different” and seemingly form a new society. But, what’s important to remember is that there’s a difference between seeking “belonging” and seeking “acceptance.” Society Rejectors want to be accepted, meaning that they are left to behave how they want and get to keep their friends. Society Acceptors want to belong, meaning they strive to become good enough that they may be part. So, Belle must be a Ravenclaw.

Now, as a Ravenclaw, is Belle’s WHY “to do what she wants, when she wants, as much as she wants to?” I would say so! She wants adventure, she wants to read her books, she wants to be different, she wants to exist as an individual alongside other individuals. I think she falls in love with Prince Adam BECAUSE he’s so unique. He’s different. The more she recognizes him as an outcast, the more she likes him. The more she sees how unique the castle is, the more she likes it. Therefore, she exhibits some strange Ravenclaw reactions: She chooses to stay in her captor’s castle, even forming a loving relationship with him, all of her own volition. This is definitely a unique response to everything that happened to her. I considered Gryffindor briefly, but I think the live action movie may have an example of a Gryffindor Belle. She tries to escape. She is more of a lecturer. She actively teaches the Beast to be a better person, rather than bonding with him exactly as he is in the animated version. Live Action Belle tries to teach other girls in the village to be inventive and educated, Animated Belle is not going to force anyone to read with her. If they don’t want to of their own accord, she’s not interested.

Jasmine - Gryffindor

I don’t think this one will be disputed. So, firstly, is Jasmine Passive or Aggressive? I think we’d all say Aggressive. She is a doer, a changer, she is willing to rebel if she feels like she’s not getting treated the way she should. She sics a tiger on a suitor. I really don’t think I need to give any examples beyond that. So, that makes Jasmine either a Gryffindor or a Slytherin.

So, is Jasmine Society Accepting or Society Rejecting? I’d pretty clearly say Rejecting. She doesn’t just dislike royal society, she just flat out hates the idea of anyone telling her what to do. She enjoys standing out and being different, being “not the average princess.” In her speech to Aladdin, she mentions feeling trapped by society’s rules and regulations. She wants to be an individual, to be free. So, that would make Jasmine a Gryffindor.

Our first Gryffindor Princess! So, as a Gryffindor, is Jasmine’s WHY “to spread her specific core values through her actions?” I’d give that a big yes. She is the first lecturing Disney Princess. She lectures her father on her beliefs after siccing Rajah on her suitor. She will only marry for love. She not only seeks to free herself from society’s norms, but others as well. She frees her pet birds from their cage, she steals an apple for an orphan, and she tries to free Aladdin, although societal rules say that he should be punished for the crimes he actually committed. She makes speeches and tries to push her beliefs onto others, while trying to live by example.

I’ve decided I’m going to do a part two!

For some of the upcoming princesses, I think I’m going to have to meditate a bit harder. As the storytelling gets more complex and less old school fairy tale, the princesses get more complex. And, since it’s getting late, I’m going to think on it a bit longer and finish this another day. Expect a part two! Thanks for reading this short novella!
