" Creation Myths

The ancient Egyptians had several myths dealing with the creation of the cosmos and all that it contained. Probably, many of these myths had local origins, but with the unification of the country, they were gathered together and regarded as equally believable, or, depending on a particular situation, one may have been favoured above the others for some time. From the evidence that remains, it does not seem that the Egyptians had difficulty holding onto fairly contradictory concurrent beliefs.

The Heliopolitan Cosmogony is one of the earliest creation myths and originated at the site of Iwnw (Heliopolis in Greek; biblical On), a major solar centre. In this myth, a group of nine gods (the Ennead) created the world. First, the god Atum ("the complete one", "the all") masturbated (in some stories, he spat) and from his ejaculation created a pair of gods, the male Shu ("air") and his female counterpart Tefnut ("moisture"). They gave birth to Geb ("earth") and Nut ("sky"). (The Egyptians are almost unique in having a male earth god and a female sky divinity.) In turn, Geb and Nut produced two sons, Osiris and Seth, and two daughters, Isis and Nephthys, who were also their brothers' consorts. Clearly, incest was not taboo for gods in Egyptian religion; it was also acceptable for kings, who were regarded as gods. Incest was a taboo for anyone else, however. The tale of Osiris, Isis, Seth, and Nephthys leads into the Osiris myth cycle. (Fig. 64.)

An equally important myth, the Hermopolitan Cosmogony, originated in the Middle Egyptian city of Khemnw (the Greek Hermopolis), which was sacred to the god Thoth. In this tale, a group of eight gods, an Ogdoad, consisting of four couples of male and female divinities, personified the elements of chaos, or pre-creation. These were "hiddeness" or "hidden potential", personified by Amun and Amunet; 'formlessness", personified by Huh and Hauhet; "darkness", embodied by Kuk and Kauket; and the primeval waters, incarnated in Nun and Naunet. These deities created an egg that contained the gods responsible for creating the other gods, the land, animals, plants, and humans. Thoth was probably this god originally, which was particularly appropriate since an ibis is hatched from an egg. However, Atum was inserted in this role in some versions of the myth.

The Memphite Theology is another significant creation myth. This was probably an old tale, but the most complete version known to us was recorded on the Shabaka Stone (ca 710 BC, Dynasty 25), named after the king who had the myth inscribed on this piece of basalt; another version, the Bremner-Rhind Papyrus (4th century BC), was written on papyrus. In this myth, Ptah created the world by conceiving it in his heart (equivalent to our mind) and then giving it life by articulating or naming each element of the world and its denizens. The idea of thinking of something (Hu) and then causing it to exist through the act of speech (Sia) is close to the later biblical story of God's creating the world through speaking it; this story has also parallels in Australian aboriginal myths and in other concepts of speaking or singing the world into being. In the Memphite theology, Ptah created Atum and the Ennead, and, through them, the rest of the world.

Minor variations exist for all these myths, and sometimes, in the Memphite theology, other gods, such Amun-Re, supplanted Ptah as supreme creator, although Ptah remained an important character in the myth. Alternate accounts also exist; for example, in "The Destruction of Mankind", Re was cast as the supreme being and self-creator, with other gods, such as Nefertum, also playing generative roles."

Progress-majority: Theodora wins majority with the Progressives party in 1912, enhancing the progress variable much and swaying the 16^12 galaxy to the less long-term destructive direction of them all albeit with stronger luddite 21st century unrest and rebellions due to the quicker, alienating, speed of technological progression. Features improved yet alternate technologies & unique cultural media, such as peer-to-peer distributed networking, synthetic "servant agents / sapients" beings by 2000, data rental stores, morphological liberties, magickaly spiritual freedoms & incentives, three worldly-scale conflicts (WW1, WW2 about defeating Strasserism & continental nuclear war limited in effects to the global South during the early-middle seventies [1973-1975]), worldwide data processing GAI benevolent modules, Lisp symbolic programming linguistics, tribble-based computer words, diversification of lifestyles, just to name a few of such era's worth of innovations in this timeline. Liberty-majority: Tina wins majority with the Republicans party in 1912, enhancing the liberty variable much and swaying the 16^12 galaxy in a moderately autonomous direction. Features somewhat fewer of the above technological enhancements but as the progression was way less alienating yet still significant enough, it features the longest line of historical records and the best balance of diplomacy + nicer integration with both of the other radical timelines. Including better federation diplomatic ties up to a certain degree. Harmony-majority: Toria wins majority with the Preservationists party in 1912, enhancing the harmony variable much and swaying the 16^12 galaxy in a diplomatic federated manner. Slower technological progression compared to the two others but stronger spirituality / religions, meta-awareness and overall diplomatic ties with the rest of the galaxy very early on. Makes for a easier repeal of late-game crisis factions & nemesis attempts due to powerful cooperation and most inclusive integration of the curators' lore from this specific galactic history. (There is a implicit non-Majority weaker "Harmony" TL aka a OTL-esque timeline that is very VERY similar to our very own that I shall use as counter-example of what to emulate narratively, essentially one where they elect a Woodrow Wilson-like figure in a minority Democrats government in 1912 [~ 40D-30P-25R-5S] and the rest goes pretty much like in our timeline henceforth. It does mean that it the timeline that is the most damaged by the Nemesis event, possibly without the possibility of triggering event chain from the Curator and his Communion due to the galaxy being too dead / undead by then as the game may have been killed by then (due to Nemesis undead lichdom victory) or simply too inhospitable for any lifeforms to enjoy life enough there)

The Curator and his sapient kin does actually resides in this era to best administer the full set of three timelines, so they naturally converge around those late interstellar / galactic ages. Still timeless enough to navigate to wherever they need be but preferring not to distribute their full weight onto other timespans so they project into volunteer hosts and constructs if need may be. Essentially a timespan with enough infrastructure and capacity to do anything they so desire and best made to accommodate ethereal patrons and estates. Most of them stay here but some do migrate forth or back in time to fill a mission / quest of theirs.

Dying Universe / Degenerate Cosmos group of ages

Somehow we visit this group of ages in the following order through the story through a psychic lens. Still unsure when to put the Curator's avatar host biological body birth and life across the first three eras among these. But as their energetic sapient spirit does belong from a darker yet similarly nuanced alternate reality (the axis victory one I talked about every so often) It think that doesn't need to be specified and can be left to the observer's imagination. However the core value is to weave some nihilistic optimism & overall constructive attitudes to every agent present during the soul projection.

V, V, V — Day 3 : Stars

The original Twilight Zone was one of the better series that has ever been produced, but my first introduction to the series came via the 1985 series, because that was the one that being broadcast when I was a kid.

There are three episodes that stuck with me more than any others, mostly because they totally broke the mould for the 1985 series, and were more in tune with the original series.

I don’t know how much you’ve watched of the original series, and how much you watched of the new series(es) but it seems that during the period it was off the air, the vogue for “downer” or “realistic” or “what Rod Serling would have wanted” kind of vanished from the people who were writing The Twilight Zone, and most of the 1985 series was happy, up with people TV. Which was just nauseating and kind of annoying.

But there were — every so often — episodes that went back to the spirt of Mister Serling’s original series, and were truly brilliant.

An episode called “The Elevator”, in which a scientist created a process that enlarged food, and so had the potential to end world hunger once and for all. Unfortunately it not only enlarged food, but everything else in the warehouse — which was why the warehouse was deserted, and why, when two college students broke in, they found the eponymous elevator covered in cobwebs, and then found out why the warehouse was deserted with no animal, insect or human life in it………

An episode called “Examination Day” where  a boy has to take a standard test, and his parents are encouraging him not to do too well, but to do alright. Then — at the end — they get a call saying that he has exceeded the level expected, and, as educational policy decrees, they can pick up his remains for burial from the school testing office.

Both of these episodes freaked me out (as you might expect) but there was a third one that just made me think more about something that Star Trek had got me thinking about earlier.

“The Star” was an episode about a scientific expedition to a solar system that had gone supernova several thousand years before. When they reached it, they found it had gone nova 3120 BCE — and that the system was exactly 3120 light years from earth.

They also discovered that the system had had a pretty advanced civilisation, and that it had, of course, been wiped out when the sun exploded.

There was a Jesuit priest onboard, and he was heartbroken to discover that this star had been used to create The Star of Bethlehem — the star that had guided The Three Wise Men to the stable — when there were other alternatives in the nearby systems. That a civilisation of trillions had had to be sacrificed for that one shining, defining moment in his own religion.

Of course, being a Christmas episode (and an American episode) it had a slightly uplifting end, but that wasn’t what interested me.

No — for me the interesting part was the idea that stars can be an idea of time travel.

That the light we see from our sun is seven and a half minutes old — that when the sun goes out, it will take another seven and a half minutes for us to realise this. (Sure — everyone reading this will be dead by then, but that’s not the point).

But what is the point is that the light we see from the stars in the sky is light that shone thousands of years ago. Light from stars that were shining when the Vikings were stomping about, when the ancient Egyptians were roaming the earth, when the dinosaurs were roaming the earth, before the earth existed — before the solar system was born.

We are looking at history — we are looking at light from the heart of stars that was created from before our solar system was even an idea in the mind of the universe.

Which, you have to admit, is something to humble even the proudest of people.

And just when you are considering that, there is something else.

The atoms that are inside those stars — the stars that created the light that shone before our planet was born, that shone before our sun was but a twinkle in the eye of the mind of the universe — are the same atoms that are inside us.

A wise, wise lady (for lady read alien being in this case) said “we are star stuff — we are born in the heart of creation, and we are all born of the same material. We are born of the same stuff, and when we die, we return to the same stuff. And although while we are unique during the time in between, we are all — at our heart — the same stuff, just arranged in a slightly different way”

If we are, in fact, star stuff, and we are born from the heart of stars, then to suggest any of us are better than any other……… would seem to be the height of hubris.

Stars contain within them the entire history of everything, and if we come from the stars and return to the stars, then perhaps every star up there is — perhaps — the repository of the history of those who have been and gone before us.

And given the natures of some of those who have been and gone before us — it would explain where black holes come from, don’t you think?

Speaking of keitor soulmate aus, I just imagined the red strings of fate style aus and Keith and Lotor’s strings just going off into space and it cracked me up

In all seriousness though, that would probably be pretty normal for Lotor, but Keith is just staring at his string going up into the sky and trying to figure out which astronauts are currently in space right now because that’s the only alternative to aliens he has (and then he finds out it IS aliens but space is huge and there’s a lot of aliens so he’s still kinda has a string to no where for a while)

So let’s say that in this au people aren’t born being able to see their string; if they were, Keith would have figured out his soulmate couldn’t possibly be an astronaut way earlier on, because while space excursions can last a for extended periods of time, vld established that Shiro’s mission to Kerberos (on the very outer edge of our solar system!) would last several years... but if that is true, then by the time Keith hit 10/11 he’d know there was no way his soulmate had been on a mission for a decade, because where would they even go that took that long??

Instead, maybe people’s strings start appearing just before puberty, and Keith - being part galra, which obviously tweaks his biology a little - is something of a late bloomer, but finally (finally!! After months fearing he’d have nobody at all, and that this would be yet another thing that sets him apart from everybody else!!) freshly-turned-thriteen Keith wakes one morning to find a red thread stretching to the stars.

Of course, his immediate response is to skip school that day - to hell with it, he has a soulmate - and sprint straight to the local library to frantically research astronauts currently stationed off-world... and though a horrifying majority are more than thrice his age and remind Keith more of various foster parents he’s had over the years (many of whom he’d really rather not be forced to recall every time he looks at his supposed other half), he finds one potential candidate who makes his heart squeeze with terrified hope.

Takashi Shirogane.

Though the youngest pilot to ever lead a mission to space, he’s still older than Keith by a good seven years, but... but he’s undeniably handsome, with kind eyes and a nice smile, and after devouring every second of interview footage starring the Galaxy Garrison’s so-called golden boy, Keith decides he wouldn’t half mind a soulmate with a laugh like that.

So of course the universe has to go and ruin it.

After months of following Shirogane’s career like it’s his new religion, Keith finds himself counting down the days until his maybe-soulmate’s present mission returns to Earth.

And then it does.

And it isn’t him.

Because the footage of Shirogane’s glorious return from helping to establish a small research colony on Juno is clear as day, and yet Keith’s thread remains stubbornly skyward.

Keith allows himself a few days to mope, but no sooner has he resolved to try again - because there must be someone out there who isn’t old and crotchety and might actually look at him like he’s worth something - does the golden boy himself waltz into Keith’s classroom looking for recruits. And, wouldn’t you know it, just because he’s not got the other end of Keith’s thread tied to his finger doesn’t stop Keith’s heart from jumping to his throat when those soft grey eyes turn right to him and ask “think you got what it takes?” as an invitation and a challenge rolled into one.

But then “discipline case” is being whispered behind him in a tone he knows all too well, and Keith just... snaps.

It wasn’t even Shirogane who’d said it, but he’d heard it and from past experience Keith knows that that’s the damage done, so he slips out from the midst of his crowding classmates and into the seat of the military-issue car all in under thirty seconds.

If they want a discipline case, then he’ll damn well give them one.

The thrill of the chase is short-lived, but he’d still managed to out-drive the cops for a good fifteen minutes, and it’s almost as easy as out-flying his classmates. The surprise isn’t being taken down to the station. The surprise isn’t even being dragged before a frazzled Shirogane and being forced to apologise.

The surprise, Keith learns, is that a laugh like that is even more disarming up close.

It’s whole year later, filled with applications and examinations and Shirogane’s - “call me Shiro” - warm hand squeezing his shoulder to ground him when it all becomes a little much, that Keith finally admits to himself that maybe it’s okay to have a crush on the handsome, kind, incredibly nerdy, idiot who’s become his best friend and mentor.

It’s two before he admits as much to Shiro.

It’s embarrassing, the way it slips out and leaves Keith fumbling over his own words, because he knows it won’t go anywhere- he knows Shiro sees him more as a kid brother than anything else- he knows that he and Adam literally just broke up and this is really probably the last thing Shiro wants to hear-

“I just mean-” Keith flushes, takes a breath, and doesn’t dare meet Shiro’s eye, “I just mean that if Adam can’t see what a huge mistake he’s making then he’s an idiot. And he doesn’t deserve you as a soulmate anyway, because anyone would be lucky to have you as a soulmate, and even though I only thought you might be mine for a few months I was really proud, so-”

“You thought I was your soulmate?” Shiro cuts in quietly, and Keith’s shoulders hitch high around his reddening ears. “Keith, hey, look at me.”

He does because it’s Shiro, and he’d give Shiro the stars if he asked for them.

Gunmetal eyes crease at the corners, fond and fragile and a little bit in awe.

“You were really proud? To think it could’ve been me?”

“Obviously,” Keith breathes, and is scooped up into the biggest hug imaginable.

“Thank you.”

They talk it through a little more: Shiro ever-so gentle in letting him down, and Keith trying not to laugh at how guilty his friend (Shiro still wants to be his friend!) looks the entire time. Then, the inevitable question comes.

“Why did you think it was me?”

“More like hoped,” Keith shrugs, “everyone else up there is old.”

At the odd look Shiro gives him, Keith explains: his soulmate’s in the stars, has been since his string appeared, and at the time Shiro was too, and though he knows he’s supposed to love them no matter what a part of him can’t help but squirm uncomfortably at the idea of such a large age difference.

“They’ve been up there the whole time?” Shiro clarifies, still with that strange crease to his brow, “For the last twenty-eight months straight?”

Keith nods.

And this is how he finds out that his soulmate is an alien.

It’s not that Shiro says as much, not explicitly, but apparently the pool of astronauts that have been off-world for the aforementioned twenty-eight-month span is a small one, and of them there are none so far as Shiro is aware who have yet to meet their soulmates (after-all, if one’s string is skyward bound, one tends to find their other half rather quickly, for obvious reasons).

“They could be from a private program,” Shiro murmurs more to himself than anything, scratching absently over his own jaw, but Keith can tell he doesn’t really believe it by the lack of conviction on his tongue.

So... alien it is.

Letter To Democrats

I felt the need to do something besides raising awareness of environmental, indigenous, and socio-economic issues. I’ve decided to compose and then mail multiple printed copies of a letter to multiple politicians across the USA. I did wonder if I should copy-and-paste the letter to social media profiles like I did for the one that I wrote to President Biden. Ultimately, I decided that posting the letter would serve two purposes. First, I wanted to let indigenous activists know that they have another willing accomplice. Second, this could provide a decent template for anyone who also feels a need to write to political leaders and put pressure on them to take much-needed action. Without any further ado…

Greetings,

I am writing a generic letter to send to assorted politicians across the United States. For reasons that I will articulate over the course of this letter, I felt a serious need to address as many members of the American political leadership as possible. I do not intend to call you out personally. If you do take it as a personal callout, please consider why you feel that way.

The reports of wildfires, heat waves, and floods have filled many, many observers with existential terror. Some have even expressed utter despair over whether the world will be inhabitable by any form of life. At times I have been tempted to join the despair, to give up hope of ever leaving a beautiful legacy for future generations. For the sake of all the people of the world, I must fight that temptation. I need to do my part to fight for the future.

There are a large number of activists trying to protect the environment. However, they need help from people who have the power to make really concrete changes. That is why I am writing to you and other Democratic politicians. That does sound very partisan, but the sad fact is that the Republican party is almost a lost cause at this point. I wish to be proven wrong about that. The fact is that it already engaged in brutal obstruction during the Obama administration. A sinister side to the base already started emerging during that time as well. With the rise of Donald Trump, the much of its leadership and nearly all of its electoral base have become increasingly unwilling to offer the kind of compromise needed for a functional democracy.

The Democratic party as a whole has been criticized as very weak in opposing the radicalizing Republican Party. The current President has spoken of a desire for restoring national unity. That desire is certainly laudable in itself when Trump blatantly stoked resentment and division. Again, however, the Republican party and its core supporters have shown a complete unwillingness to work with any opponents in any way. They view their opponents as subversive enemies that need to be crushed underfoot. The Republican party has inched towards neo-fascism at a time when neo-fascism is mainstreaming around the world. The Republican party has also already been beholden to the selfish interests of major corporations for decades. It even seeks to magnify the already dire influence of corporations chiefly responsible for pollution. Its propaganda outlets outright deny pollution and mislead millions of people.

Some Democratic politicians have also been criticized as going along with corporate interests and watering down legislation meant to oppose corporate influence. By now it has become clear that corporate elites do not have the safety of the world and its human and nonhuman denizens in mind. By now it has become clear that they must be reined in for the greater good. The only language that major corporations even comprehend is money. Here I arrive at the first main point of this letter: I urge you to work with other Democratic leaders to divest from major corporations and their executives, especially those most directly responsible for polluting the Earth. I’ve also seen proposals that corporations be forced to contribute to removing as much pollution as possible. Quickening the transition away from fossil fuels is crucial.

However, alternate energy sources are not enough. Switching from gas-powered cars to electric cars is not enough. Building solar or wind farms in place of coal-burning power plants is not enough. Extraction and consumption cause their own serious problems. The problem of environmental degradation has roots that are far too deep and complicated to address here, though I will touch upon one later. Going hand-in-hand with corporate influence are the bad social and urban infrastructures that do not encourage sustainable lifestyles. I barely even know where to begin in this regard. Cities are too often built for cars and not people. Most people have to drive carbon-spewing cars to work at jobs that are not well-suited to their needs in order to pay their bills and feed their families. Too many people are left in poverty or near-poverty, some people are more-or-less isolated in suburbs, and a tiny handful are virtually untouchable in their wealth and privilege. Healthy food is not always accessible, and even when it is, it often has to be shipped very far from the source.

My second main point is this: in addition to transitioning to cleaner energy, the very infrastructure of our society needs to reformed. Local communities need to be lifted up so that they can better care for themselves without the need for distant figures constantly having to provide for them through convoluted supply chains. It’s true that right-wingers speak of “small government” with the unspoken agenda of leaving corporate oligarchs and ultra-conservative clergy to rule over ordinary human beings. Nonetheless, I believe that, at this point, government needs to assist in rebuilding communities so that they can eventually leave denizens to stand on their feet and care for each other. The pandemic, along with the poor responses of many local officials, has shown the need for communities to engage in mutual care.

I will confess that this exhortation is the vaguest one in this letter. I lack in-depth education on such matters. I bring it up in order to further nudge you in a direction that would be far better for the Earth and its people. I can offer one example of what must be done that is slightly clearer: helping communities establish gardens and small-scale farms to better feed themselves.

On a very important side note, this nation needs to divest from the military as well. The largest and most powerful military in history is known to be among the largest polluters on earth. Too many politicians seem to ignore how massive the military already is an insist on subsidizing it at the cost of actually building a peaceful and prosperous society.

I further wish to discuss the need to center indigenous peoples in renewing our society. No, I am no indigenous myself. I simply wish to point to their wisdom. Yes, the sagely magical Indian who is one with Mother Earth is a crude stereotype, and I have no intention of reinforcing it. With that said, I follow a number of indigenous writers, activists, spiritualists, and influencers on social media. I learned about how many indigenous people are attempting to reconnect to previously outlawed and hidden heritages. The stereotype could be rooted in reality.

In most cases, those heritages include animistic spiritualities, in which aspects of the natural world, from plants to animals to waters to stones, are seen as having spirits. Furthermore, these aspects of the natural world are seen as relatives to humans. I should note how some well-meaning white people, wishing to bond with the earth instead of submitting to organized religion, appropriate these indigenous spiritualties and associated practices. Indigenous writers will encourage such people to instead delve into their own pre-Christian heritages, which have similar animistic philosophies, however obscured by time they may be. I have actually been doing just that—though I won’t elaborate because I don’t want to center myself.

You may be asking, what is the relevance said common thread of the spiritualities of indigenous peoples? That animism seems to go hand-in-hand with methods of land care that developed over generations of trial and error, along with the principles behind those methods. With the subjugation and expulsion (and worse) of the land’s original caretakers, though, these practices fell into obscurity. The most dramatic example, perhaps, is the suppression of controlled burnings on the western coastline leading to the wildfires that we have seen in recent years. Indeed, the different lands of different indigenous nations need their own subtly distinct approaches, based on ecosystems, geographies, local histories, and general senses of place. Indigenous activists and figureheads are calling upon governments to heed their words on not only conservation but also regeneration.

One of the main demands that indigenous activists make is for the return of their lands, full sovereignty over them, and the facilitation of cultural revival. Yes, that is a very simple manner of justice and righting a historic wrong. It has become evident that their wisdom is a crucial piece of the puzzle of solving environmental problems as well. Simple “colorblind” or “globalized” liberalism won’t suffice when working for social or environmental justice. Indigenous activists argue that colonialism is at the root of so many of our world’s problems. Many of them even outright state that the “colonial state” in itself is a problem. I can see how colonialism has promoted the rise of an all-devouring capitalism and perpetuated it. The grim historical fact of how the enslavement of Black people and the elimination of indigenous peoples contributed to building this nation remains a grim historical fact.

I myself am figuring out the world and learning many truths, but I am sympathetic to people who have borne the brunt of colonialism. I welcome the humanistic achievements of modernity and utterly oppose fundamentalism and fascism, I assure you, but I’ve come to accept that the modern world is broken. Simple progress won’t heal the world. “Big government” certainly has a role to play in mobilizing the needed social changes, such as what I’ve alluded to above, but the “colonial state” needs to ultimately divest its own power.

I’ll try to summarize my points now. Major corporations and economic elites need to be drastically reined in and disempowered (along with the military). The transition to renewable energies needs to be quickened—but also needs to be accompanied by drastic changes to infrastructures and supply chains so as to result in less extraction and consumption. Localized communities need to be empowered so they can better care for themselves without much out faraway aid. Indigenous peoples need to be given their lands back, be elevated to leadership roles in caring for and regenerating said lands, and be empowered so they can rebuild their cultures. Settlers should learn from them as well. In the end, the state and the socio-economic system that it has upheld need to recede—not for billionaires or grand inquisitors or dictators, but for ordinary people and the earth. In truth, humans are meant to be a part of nature, and the generational challenge is for humanity to reconcile with the rest of nature.

This all may sound idealistic or radical. This past summer has shown us that we shouldn’t settle for anything less than radical social change. This nation, which has been a major world power for over a century, needs to be radically reimagined. This all may sound vague as well. I have little education in politics and governance apart from what I’ve tried to learn for myself across the internet. That is all the more reason for people like you—people with more real-world power than I—to push along radical social change. This letter is meant to raise awareness of your duty as a leader. A leader is meant to be a guide, not a dominator. There’s a chance that you could be recorded in history as a leader who did what was necessary to make the world’s healing and renewal possible.

This energy is all over the place and the best advice I have is to ride the wave(s).

 

I felt compelled to CLEAN.

Serious, deep cleaning.

Move furniture and reorganize my closets type of CLEAN.

 

This was confirmed when I tuned into my good friend @truenorthwitch ig live this morning and she said CLEAN!

So that seems to be the overriding message today: Cleanse. Smudge. Purify. Rest.

 

Generally, we tend to manifest and set intentions during the new moon. Because this particular lunar phase falls on an eclipse, most people would recommend that you do not “start” anything at this time. I don’t like to tell people what to do (I can only give my opinion based on my personal experiences), and my advice has always been and continues to be FOLLOW YOUR GUT.

If you are called to clean, then CLEAN. If you are compelled to perform a ritual, then do the ritual. Listen to yourSELF and do what feels right. I understand the logic behind not wanting to attempt to harness this wildcard (eclipse) energy but who am I to say you can’t? Honestly, isn’t that what drew so many of us to witchcraft in the first place? The freedom and ability to practice however we choose to practice? To explore and feel our spirituality in a manner that relates to us and feels completely genuine? I know for myself, I was raised in a religion that had many rules and I constantly felt riddled with guilt and forced myself into a box that wasn’t true to me… but that’s another story for another time 😅

The point is, cleaning is always a good idea.

Rest is always a good idea.

Taking a moment to be still and open to receiving any messages is always a good idea.

So if you’re not sure what to do today or feel like you WANT to do something but are hesitant to perform any rituals, my suggestion is to CLEAN. Throw open your windows (it thankfully cooled off here and there’s a lovely breeze so hello perfect timing!), change your sheets, vacuum/Swiffer/sweep/dust, refold your linens/towels and clean your bathroom and kitchen. Especially your kitchen. Initially, we think of bathrooms as the grossest place in our homes, but think about it: the kitchen is exponentially worse, especially if you eat or handle meat (nobody gets salmonella from toothpaste spatters on their medicine cabinet mirror ���). So, clean the fridge and sweep the corners. Light some incense and clear out that stagnant energy! We are toward the end of Mercury Retrograde as well so be mindful of typical retrograde affects increasing during this time.

You can use rosemary (smells amazing), cedar/pine (also love the smell), basil, mint (seriously, all these smell incredible). There are also liquid alternatives if you’re not a fan of smoke or need to be discreet. Florida water, lemon/rosemary water, vinegar, etc are all fantastic alternatives to sage. I like to put a little vinegar and water in a spray bottle and go to town. It cleans everything and the smell disappears quickly.

Myth & Description

Ra (/rɑː/; Egyptian: Rꜥ, Rˤ) or Re (/reɪ/; Coptic: ⲣⲏ, Rē) is the ancient Egyptian sun god. By the Fifth Dynasty in the 25th and 24th centuries BC, he had become a major god in ancient Egyptian religion, identified primarily with the noon sun.

In later Egyptian mythology dynastic times, Ra was merged with the god Horus, as Ra-Horakhty ("Ra, who is Hor of the Two Horizons"). He was believed to rule in all parts of the created world: The sky, the earth and the underworld. He was associated with the falcon or hawk. When in the New Kingdom and the god Amun rose to prominence, he was fused with Ra as Amun-Ra. During the Amarna Period, Akhenaten suppressed the cult of Ra in favor of another solar deity, the Aten, the deified solar disc, but after the death of Akhenaten, the cult of Ra was restored.

The cult of the Merwer bull, an embodiment of Ra, had its center in Heliopolis and there was a formal burial ground for the sacrificed bulls north of the city.

All forms of life were believed to have been created by Ra, who called each of them into existence by speaking their secret names. Alternatively man was created from Ra's tears and sweat, hence the Egyptians call themselves the "Cattle of Ra." In the myth of the Celestial Cow it is recounted how mankind plotted against Ra and how he sent his eye as the goddess Sekhmet to punish them. When she became bloodthirsty she was pacified by drinking beer mixed with red dye.

Ra and the sun

To the Egyptians, the sun represented light, warmth, and growth. This made the sun deity very important, as the sun was seen as the ruler of all that he created. The sun disk was either seen as the body or eye of Ra. Ra was the father of Shu and Tefnut, whom he created. Shu was the god of the wind, and Tefnut was the goddess of the rain. Sekhmet was the Eye of Ra and was created by the fire in Ra's eye. She was a violent lioness.

Ra in the underworld

Ra was thought to travel on the Atet, two solar barks called the Mandjet (the Boat of Millions of Years) or morning boat and the Mesektet or evening boat. These boats took him on his journey through the sky and the Duat, the literal underworld of Egypt. While Ra was on the Mesektet, he was in his ram-headed form. When Ra traveled in his sun boat, he was accompanied by various other deities including Sia (perception) and Hu (command), as well as Heka (magic power). Sometimes, members of the Ennead helped him on his journey, including Set, who overcame the serpent Apep, and Mehen, who defended against the monsters of the underworld. When Ra was in the underworld, he would visit all of his various forms. Apep, the god of chaos, was an enormous serpent who attempted to stop the sun boat's journey every night by consuming it or by stopping it in its tracks with a hypnotic stare. During the evening, the Egyptians believed that Ra set as Atum or in the form of a ram. The night boat would carry him through the underworld and back towards the east in preparation for his rebirth. These myths of Ra represented the sun rising as the rebirth of the sun by the sky goddess Nut; thus attributing the concept of rebirth and renewal to Ra and strengthening his role as a creator god as well.

When Ra was in the underworld, he merged with Osiris, the god of the dead, and through it became the god of the dead as well.

Ra as creator

Ra was worshiped as the creator god among some ancient Egyptians, specifically followers of his cult at Heliopolis. It was believed that Ra wept, and from his tears came man. These cult-followers believed that Ra was self-created, while followers of Ptah believed that Ra was created by Ptah. In a passage of the Book of the Dead, Ra cuts himself, and his blood transforms into two intellectual personifications: Hu, or authority, and Sia, or mind. Ra is also accredited with the creation of the seasons, months, plants, and animals.

Iconography

Ra was represented in a variety of forms. The most usual form was a man with the head of a falcon and a solar disk on top and a coiled serpent around the disk. Other common forms are a man with the head of a beetle (in his form as Khepri), or a man with the head of a ram. Ra was also pictured as a full-bodied ram, beetle, phoenix, heron, serpent, bull, cat, or lion, among others.

He was most commonly featured with a ram's head in the Underworld. In this form, Ra is described as being the "ram of the west" or "ram in charge of his harem“.

In some literature, Ra is described as an aging king with golden flesh, silver bones, and hair of lapis lazuli.

Worship

The chief cult center of Ra was Iunu, the "Place of Pillars", later known to the Greeks as Heliopolis (lit. "Sun City") and today located in the suburbs of Cairo. He was identified with the local sun god Atum. As Atum or Atum-Ra, he was reckoned the first being and the originator of the Ennead ("The Nine"), consisting of Shu and Tefnut, Geb and Nut, Osiris, Set, Isis and Nephthys. The holiday of 'The Receiving of Ra' was celebrated on May 26 in the Gregorian calendar.

His local cult began to grow from roughly the second dynasty, establishing Ra as a sun deity. By the Fourth Dynasty, pharaohs were seen as Ra's manifestations on earth, referred to as "Sons of Ra". His worship increased massively in the Fifth Dynasty, when Ra became a state deity and pharaohs had specially aligned pyramids, obelisks, and solar temples built in his honor. The rulers of the Fifth Dynasty told their followers that they were sons of Ra himself and the wife of the high priest of Heliopolis. These pharaohs spent most of Egypt's money on sun temples. The first Pyramid Texts began to arise, giving Ra more and more significance in the journey of the pharaoh through the Underworld.

During the Middle Kingdom era, Ra was increasingly affiliated and combined with other chief deities, especially Amun and Osiris.

At the time of the New Kingdom, the worship of Ra had become more complicated and grander. The walls of tombs were dedicated to extremely detailed texts that depicted Ra's journey through the underworld. Ra was said to carry the prayers and blessings of the living with the souls of the dead on the sun boat. The idea that Ra aged with the sun became more popular during the rise of the New Kingdom.

Many acts of worship included hymns, prayers, and spells to help Ra and the sun boat overcome Apep.

The rise of Christianity in the Roman Empire put an end to the worship of Ra by the citizens of Egypt, and as Ra's popularity suddenly died out, the study of Ra became of purely academic interest even among the Egyptian priests.

Gods merged with Ra

As with most widely worshiped Egyptian deities, Ra's identity was often combined with other gods, forming an interconnection between deities.

Amun and Amun-Ra

Amun was a member of the Ogdoad, representing creation energies with Amunet, a very early patron of Thebes. He was believed to create via breath, and thus was identified with the wind rather than the sun. As the cults of Amun and Ra became increasingly popular in Upper and Lower Egypt respectively they were combined to create Amun-Ra, a solar creator god. It is hard to distinguish exactly when this combination happened, but references to Amun-Ra appeared in pyramid texts as early as the fifth dynasty. The most common belief is that Amun-Ra was invented as a new state deity by the Theban rulers of the New Kingdom to unite worshipers of Amun with the older cult of Ra around the 18th dynasty. Amun-Ra was given the official title "king of the gods" by worshipers, and images show the combined deity as a red-eyed man with a lion's head that had a surrounding solar disk.

Atum and Atum-Ra

Atum-Ra (or Ra-Atum) was another composite deity formed from two completely separate deities, however Ra shared more similarities with Atum than with Amun. Atum was more closely linked with the sun, and was also a creator god of the Ennead. Both Ra and Atum were regarded as the father of the deities and pharaohs, and were widely worshiped. In older myths, Atum was the creator of Tefnut and Shu, and he was born from ocean Nun.

Ra-Horakhty

In later Egyptian mythology, Ra-Horakhty was more of a title or manifestation than a composite deity. It translates as "Ra (who is) Horus of the Horizons". It was intended to link Horakhty (as a sunrise-oriented aspect of Horus) to Ra. It has been suggested that Ra-Horakhty simply refers to the sun's journey from horizon to horizon as Ra, or that it means to show Ra as a symbolic deity of hope and rebirth. (See earlier section: Ra and the sun).

Khepri and Khnum

Khepri was a scarab beetle who rolled up the sun in the mornings, and was sometimes seen as the morning manifestation of Ra. Similarly, the ram-headed god Khnum was also seen as the evening manifestation of Ra. The idea of different deities (or different aspects of Ra) ruling over different times of the day was fairly common, but variable. With Khepri and Khnum taking precedence over sunrise and sunset, Ra often was the representation of midday when the sun reached its peak at noon. Sometimes different aspects of Hor were used instead of Ra's aspects.

Raet-Tawy

Raet or Raet-Tawy was a female aspect of Ra; she did not have much of importance independently of him. In some myths she was considered to be either Ra's wife or his daughter.

Gods created by Ra Bastet

Bastet (also called Bast) is sometimes known as the "cat of Ra". She is also his daughter and is associated with Ra's instrument of vengeance, the sun-god's eye. Bastet is known for decapitating the serpent Apep (Ra's sworn enemy and the "God" of Chaos) to protect Ra. In one myth, Ra sent Bastet as a lioness to Nubia.

Sekhmet

Sekhmet is another daughter of Ra. Sekhmet was depicted as a lioness or large cat, and was an "eye of Ra", or an instrument of the sun god's vengeance. In one myth, Sekhmet was so filled with rage that Ra was forced to turn her into a cow so that she would not cause unnecessary harm. In another myth, Ra fears that mankind is plotting against him and sends Hathor (another daughter of Ra) to exterminate the human race. In the morning Sekhmet goes to finish the job and drinks what appears to be blood. It turns out to be red beer, and she is too intoxicated to finish the slaughter.

Hathor

Hathor is another daughter of Ra. When Ra feared that mankind was plotting against him, he sent Hathor as an "eye of Ra" to exterminate the human race, later sending Sekhmet to finish the job. Followers of Ra were known to be jealous of Ptah. While some believed that Ra is self-created, others believed that Ptah created him.

Isis

Isis frequently schemed against Ra, as she wanted her son Horus to have the power. In one myth, Isis created a serpent to poison Ra and only gave him the antidote when he revealed his true name to her. Ra now feared Isis, as with his secret name revealed she could use all her power against him and have Horus take over the throne.

Apep

Apep, also called Apophis, was the god of chaos and Ra's greatest enemy. He was said to lie just below the horizon line, trying to devour Ra as Ra descended into the underworld. As he swallowed Ra, this led to the setting of the sun and when he had completely swallowed Ra this led to nighttime. He never succeeded in completely swallowing Ra however as he eventually spit Ra back out, causing the sun to rise.

Those were the most troubling two weeks of his life, because everything depended on his organism.

By trying to fight a substance that could kill him, and that strange chemistry, that foreign body that in case Bruce wasn't able to connect in his cells and his body couldn't resist, he could die if he didn't adapt.

In the midst of this, each of the members of the justice league entered secretly, without them knowing that they were monitored and recorded.

Then he visited them, Ebraim and  Amasteus  saw each of them, weeping over a body on top of a bed,

Knowing that there was the stabilization time, whoever did it would leave everything prepared, for the right time and due to their knowledge, that would be kept under seven keys.

I was committed to anyone being frightened by the effects that would last a while, all so that until the substance connected to the organism.

In which everything happened until the body stabilized, until then, it seemed that it would actually die, due to the struggle of the organism in its attempt at resistance.

Now, thinking about it, it was over a hundred years ago that he didn't see his symptoms, results and effects, yes, it could go wrong, but it could work if he couldn't take the true meaning of the moon of the day.

He was studying under the microscope the effects of the substance, until someone, a smart-ass paparazzi, he learned that he entered the room, apparently with the help of an intern, or employee, taking pictures of a man on a respirator, unconscious and connected to braces.

Leaked to several newspapers around the world for a while, Wayne's stock plummeted, which the American stock market was down there.

Bruce Wayne's sons tried to get in, so they were expelled, and they weren't allowed to stay there.

Joker, managed to invade the place, to see a man connected to machines, as he realized was used to kill or make an experiment with a home that in the end, stayed in a bed, the verge of death, if one day he returned to the world of the living.

The one he saw, almost at the end of the week he told, he saw progress, slow, but that's what he was expecting, when the compromised organs were adapting and recovering, returning to their full strength, and their full biological capacity.

Those were the longest three weeks of his life, until when all the organs returned to normal, and took out the breathing hose, so that he stood by his side, waiting for the man to wake up.

Well, then. "Did the man beside you say, sitting in the chair, is his name Bruce Wayne, or Edward Parks? "He questioned him, with his legs crossed, to see the man wake up.

For a man in a bed, his smile was well skewed, and happy.

They both had dirty secrets that should be kept hidden.

Bruce recovered, and leaving the next day when he was not approached, and kept hidden from the justice league, the next day, coming out in tabloids, and news, paparazzi, newspapers.

Bruce, in turn, at that time, was returning to work, which he was just abusing and using the weakness of each of the heroes in not showing up, or having the courage to see him.

Four weeks before...

Bruce was going toward some investigations, they said that some villains like Joker, was plotting against him, which he decided to investigate, but there were other things more important than a villain, from Gotham to get his attention, he had his contact, which was Ellis.

In the end, he convinced one of his allies that they lost a bet to deliver the serum of the souls of the Jewish philosopher's stone.

Bruce was kind of pushed in that direction when he was warned about schemes, which he should follow.

At that time, Bruce had some clues given by demons that sent him to the other side of the world, more precisely in Europe, he was walking.

All this for what he discovered to be a former concentration camp, one of his arkham asylum allies, had said about a session with a man named Ebraim.

Knowing that he was a Jew who had a crisis, and needs private treatment, because of a crisis he had, he was a doctor for years, which in turn.

When he pp sat for torture and was there when his family was murdered, having a wife of 69 years, and a daughter of 33 years.

Anyway, he didn't know, but even if he received a letter, of an alleged attack on Batman about a trap that was forwarded to Gotham Police Station this week.

3 weeks before...

This was a city that few knew it was off the radar of Nazi hunters, if the history of Auschwitz and other camps, under the direction of Dr. Eduard Wirths, the detainees were subjected to various experiments.

These experiences would supposedly help in the war, but few knew about the ghost towns well off the radar, in the interior of Germany, which few knew according to the records.

Again, from a Nazi camp that does not exist, and whose involved doctors who did not exist.

What were hidden from the projects that were hidden that they said, should be hidden and burned.

One of the inmates at Arkham Sanatorium, a doctor who took care of a patient, who had a conversation, who at first believed to be a delusion of a surviving patient.

Knowing that one of the doctors, he told Bruce a treatment of a 79-year-old man who suffered from sbuts that survived Hitler's pressure, and of what was once one of the scientists who worked for the Führer.

Among his investigations, what he discovered in records that were kept secret from justice, this traumatized man was part of the Paper Clips project during a period of the Cold War.

Bruce researched him, knowing that he was one of the Jews who were forced to work for Hitler, in that period from 1940 to 1945, he was sent.

There were documents and records that he said he discovered were from a Jew and German who according to records at various sites for experiments, one of them was Auschwitz and other camps, would be another doctor.

His name was Ebraim Heinrich Dannenberg Dupelgunger Fiodorentch, son of German Jewish parents, in his youth, he was blond.

By Hitler's German standards, he was an anomaly, of all anomalies, that came in one in a million.

In the midst of his request for help to the U.S. government, near the end of the first world war, like him, others were part of the Paperclip program.

To which he was one of the Reich's allied doctors who was forced to work or die, to be able to resist, until his family was killed one by one in front of him.

In exchange for not killing his family, he worked directly to let them know about reported some data regarding secrets that were left behind.

It was in a developing new weapon, helping in the recovery of the military who had been wounded, and for the advancement of racial ideology supported by the Third Reich, it was a concentration camp of a Nazi camp.

Starting to build through Austria, and traveling through each of the abandoned coal tunnels, they were supposedly tunnels that would be abandoned by the constant collapses.

Taking advantage of the fame of haunted and ghost towns, they propagated that the place was inhabited by ghosts, cursed ancient tourist fields and Viking cemeteries, to which with the imminent threat that they could not make it through the place.

It was not just on paper, which he discovered were tunnels that ran between Denmark and Norway, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Yugoslavia and Greece.

All of them were made, with buildings, which were during occupations, they were not only simple caves, but were coal and diamond mines.

To which they were disabled, with the excuse of collapses and tremors, then their entrance was in Belgium, between a cave between the mountains.

He can see that they were kilometric, running through the place, he can see that those places were so hidden that they supposedly could not be discovered, between the forests and Austria was one of the localities where Hitler invaded.

Going through his tunnels looking at the local quele was hidden, where he can only go towards Vienna, when the Führer hid them, his greatest plans, there were cameras.

Among the cameras and tunnels were photos and documents hidden between rooms and more file rooms, there were tunnels of underground and old rails that were there, not only stored documents and reports of tests and experiments, but the gold stolen from the Nazis.

That was the wealth, the treasure known to all the prisoners of the Nazis, the money the wealth of all the Jews who died in the Holocaust.

Where he knew now, it was that place, where he had hidden all the riches of all the Jews who died in the concentration camps.

The reason that was not found until that time, was that on a hypnosis session where, Bruce disguised himself as a doctor, he went to the doctor's country house.

Now, recorded were his, what he would do with all those riches, the gold in wagons, he would have to see how far the train tracks would take him.

All to know where it ended there, besides going through underground and caves among abandoned coal mines between the mountains of Austria, which went beyond and after that country, traversing the forests that were once used for invasions, and that their underground were excavated.

If he ever talked about it, he would raise complicated questions about a man who didn't want to remember his traumas, and how unethical he would be.

Organa, the capital of Earth

Organa is a city floating in the World Ocean and is the capital of the United Nations (U.N.). The city, with a population of 123,300 over an area of 31km^2 it’s by far the largest city in any U.N. mandate by both area and population, and the fifth most populous floating city on Earth. It also has the highest female-to-male ratio of any city on Earth.

The city holds many of the Earth world government’s most important buildings, including the International Congress, First Citizen’s Abode, the High Council Building, the Supreme Court of the World, the INTERPOL Headquarters, and the Mother’s High Temple. It’s also home to many other government bureaus and regulators, for example the Global Food and Drug Administration’s main office.

History

Construction began shortly after the Final Unification in 2134 to act as the international capital to host delegations from and representatives all member-nations, house U.N. workers, and home to the Supreme Court of the World. This would turn the city into home of the U.N. legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Additionally, the Daughters, an international interfaith organization, soon became interested in the project and lobbied to allow their headquarters to be built there as well. This complicated existing plans, but it was approved, though modified design for the city had to be redesigned with much input from the Daughters, who came up with its iconic central-dock.

The construction process was marred with delays and financial mismanagement scandals, but eventually it was built and began its voyage from the Sea of Cortez out into the Pacific in 2150. From the period of 2150-2160 Organa fulfilled its original plan to be little more than a neutral administrative capital and international meeting spot. During this time the city’s population remained relatively low at only about 20,000, mostly consisting of government employees or in the service industry, but after the Solar Reformation in 2161 it rapidly grew in importance alongside the global government. Its population began to swell and a small fleet of secondary ships even started keeping up until further remodeling was done to accommodate the population.

The city is sometimes known as the “City that Never Stops,” both because of its rapid and highly-efficient public transit system, and because it’s constantly moving throughout the oceans. Throughout the year the city goes around an ocean in patterns, often restocking on supplies from local countries as it moves. Since 2179 it’s moved beyond the Pacific, and now goes around the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans, alternating between them every 10 years. It’s currently starting 25th circumnavigation and has passed from the Pacific into the Atlantic Ocean.

Economy

The economy of Organa is highly dependent on the service industry and government hiring. Many of the services are geared towards accommodating the over-1,000 global representatives, as well as many other government-workers. The World Government is the largest employer in the city, followed by the local City of Organa, followed then by the state-run Organa Academy, with approximately 45% of employees being state-employees in some way.

The next largest source of employment is the services industry, which caters to the state-employees, students, and tourists who often visit from nearby coastal regions as the ship stops by or anchors near another major city. Approximately 85% of workers in the service industry are male.

The service industry is a major attraction to Organa itself, with the city being known for its many world-class restaurants, luxury spas, and exotic nightlife. Naricox International, the world’s largest hotel chain, also has a headquarters here.

Infrastructure

Organa has very limited private transportation. The city has several major roads and some small networks, but they tend to have limited access and very narrow.

The city has a very well developed public transit system, mostly depending on several light-monorail, tram, and cable car networks. The city is also very bike-friendly, having more area dedicated to bike-only traffic than car-only.

The city is home to Organa International Airport and hosts a dock.

A state-of-the-art recycling systems exist in the city. A large material recycling plant lies in the city’s aft that provides all of the recycling services for the city, and even provides a minor industry in taking recyclable materials from local areas and selling usable material back. An advanced water recycling plant also exists, and a food-compost program recycles most of the food waste into fertilizer or biofuel.

Water is provided by two water-desalination plants. It receives all of its energy from its nuclear reactors, though many residents also have solar panels to reduce energy costs.

Imports

The city has very little means of producing any of its resources. One of the major resources that has to be constantly loaded on the Organa is food, of which it is extremely dependent on imports. Several fisheries operate in the city, often serviced by small processing fleet that follows the Organa, and several local high-efficiency greenhouses operate, but these are merely supplemental and could barely sustain a portion of the population on their own due to their small size.

Most consumer goods are also imported as the city has almost no domestic manufacturing. As many goods need to be flown in to the Organa in between stops at cities goods prices tend to be inflated, contributing to the city’s high cost of living.

Demographics

The city had a population of  123,292 as if the 2420 census, up from 116,505 in 2410.

Sometimes called “the Women’s City,” Organa has a very high proportion of female residents and visitors, with a population being about 67% female for several reasons. The Organa Academy, which has about 36,000 students of which almost 80% are female and a faculty of over 90% female. The city has many high-paying leadership positions in both the government and business sectors, which are typically held by women. Additionally, most of the guests to the city are female, with many tourist accommodations catering to the wealthier female tourists and visitors.

Because of the gender imbalance and the temporary nature of much of the populace there tend to be few families and children in the City, with the city’s fertility rate being only 1.5, one of the lowest rates on Earth.

The city’s ethnic and religious makeup blends and changes frequently because of its international and transient nature. Both the city and global census stopped keeping track of the city’s ethnicities and religions because of how complicated and rapidly-outdated it had become.

How To: Create an OC

A new fanfiction writer sent me a message a few days ago, asking for advice on creating an OC (Original Character). I have a lot of OC's, most of them are used repeatedly, so I sat down and gave it some serious thought. How can I teach someone else my process. Because mine is organic. I often talk out loud, either to myself, my husband, or a fellow writer Astraearose-silvermoon. Fortunately, I keep track of my OC's, so I took a good look into them, and found several factors repeated over and over again. You aren't just looking for a name. In fact, for me, that's one of the last things I do. The name has to mean something to my character, so it's important to know who they are first. I tend to ask myself a lot of questions during the process, so I am listing them here for you.

Identity Questions Will this OC be used more than once? What kind of personality does the character have? What does the character look like? Where is this character from? Nationality? City? Who is this character's family? Friends? Love? What is this character's name? How does this character talk? Do they have any quirks?

Motivation Questions What is the purpose of this character? What are the greatest skills and weaknesses of the character? What are the greatest needs and wants of the character? What does this character like and dislike? What does this character fear the most? What does he/she know?

Superhero Questions What is the name of their alternate Identity? What sorts of skills does he/she have? What attacks does he/she have? How did they become a superhero?

It looks a little overwhelming doesn't it? The truth is, most of this stuff writes itself as you add the character to a story, and then another and another. You don't have to answer all the questions right up front. In fact, it's best not to. You want your readers to learn about the character a little at a time. In order to help illustrate this, I wanted to share my answers to these questions in regards to my first, and still favorite, Original Character. Kazuo Haruki. Most of the answers for his came out during the course of putting him into stories, and trying to tie up loose ends. The way he was in his first appearance versus the way he is now has a marked difference. Often I give more information about him up-front now, but his origin story has always been the same.

Identity Questions Will this OC be used more than once? - Absolutely What kind of personality does the character have? - Sunny disposition; happy-go-lucky; sometimes sad because of history, but is able to move past it. Makes friends easily. (Sort of like a male Usagi, except a bit more overprotective and with a few hints of studiousness) What does the character look like? - Total red-head, from the pale skin and freckles on. Muscular but slim. Vivid green eyes, freckles across the nose, appendix scar, about 6'1 Where is this character from? Nationality? City? - The son of a Japanese woman and American man. Until his mother died he lived a few doors down from Usagi. Spent several years in Kofu until his father died. Who is this character's family? Friends? Love? - Usagi and Shingo's very overprotective older cousin; Son of Ikuko's twin sister; the soulmate of Setsuna (Sailor Pluto); Becomes very close friends with Mamoru because of shared personal trauma (becoming orphans); becomes close friends with Motoki because they are so similar in personality. Other information... political leanings, religion, etc. - None listed as yet. How does this character talk? Do they have any quirks? - tends to talk quickly when excited What is this character's name? - Kazuo Haruki. Kazuo means harmonious man, while Haruki means shining brightly. After describing his personality, the name is so much easier!

Motivation Questions What is the purpose of this character? - Haruki's original purpose was a counterbalance for Mamoru and to give Setsuna a soulmate. The thought of leaving her guarding the Time Door all alone for centuries... well, lets just say I wasn't thrilled with that. He also occasionally steps in at the last moment to provide for a need the other characters weren't expecting (Suddenly teaching Mamoru and Usagi to heal in Kidnapping Sailor Moon). What are the greatest skills and weaknesses of the character? - Strength: His kind heart and generous nature - Weakness: Tends to become a little bossy, can be extremely stubborn, impatient with himself when it comes to learning something new. What are the greatest needs and wants of the character? - I would say his greatest need is his Soul-Bonded, Setsuna. His wants are to play pranks, keep his family and friends safe, and to eventually create something incredible. He likes to make new things. I haven't decided on a career for him yet though. What does this character like and dislike? - Like: Coffee; Vanilla milkshakes; pranks - Dislike: rude people, long lines, pushy girls What does this character fear the most? - Losing Setsuna; losing his family; or being forced to fulfil his hidden purpose What does he/she know? - He knows he wasn't supposed to live... that two or three times (depending on the story) he should have died, either with his mother as a child, during a Youma attack in Kofu, or being hit by a car. He is aware of all three, and knows that someone (Usually Setsuna) stepped in somehow to save him. He also knows he has a hidden purpose.

Superhero Questions What is the name of their alternate Identity? - Sun Knight What Crystal (Sailor Moon) does he/she have? - Topaz Sun Crystal (a creation crystal, not originally meant for battle, like the Silver or Golden Crystals) What sorts of skills does he/she have? - Healing - Helping with new relationships - Help in Childbirth What attacks does he/she have? - Solar Flare; Super Nova; Sun Kissed; Star Burst (most attack multiple enemies) How did they become a superhero? - Most stories have him learning when he is attacked by a Youma and suddenly transforms, or when someone he loves is in danger and he suddenly transforms. Sometimes though he is told by either Luna or Usagi.

I would suggest starting with one or two questions from each category and going from there. Don't stress if you can't answer every question. It takes a bit of writing to get there. You'd be surprised how easy those questions were for me to answer as I wrote this. It took less than twenty minutes to answer them, and I barely scratched the surface of what I've written for this character. Start slow. Tell the reader what the character looks like, acts like, and feels. Tell them what the character is capable of. The rest will come during the writing process.

The first part of that is a long joke, and I cannot imagine anyone saying it out loud. The second is a direct paraphrase: "God will punish you for all eternity, for what you substitute for something else, whatever that substitute is, even if it is your own life."

Of course, people do this in philosophical conversations, not in front of their parents. "God will punish you for your sin of transubstantiation!"

And that says, I think, just as much truth about the psychology of the "God will punish you for transubstantiation" meme, as it does about the religion itself. People are people. They say things that are true to them, even if they're not very funny.

But I also think that the "God will punish you forever" meme has much more in common with, say, the idea that the Sun goes around the Earth and that the Sun will rise in the morning.

The general idea that the future will be better because of environmental improvements, is one of the major motivations that lead me to hope for the future.

But there are also many other beliefs that have a strong appeal to the hope of better things to come, such as the idea that the future will be more meaningful because of the existence of smarter agents than ourselves - the idea that the future will bring us knowledge and understanding and the like that we have not yet had, and that those things will make the future a richer place, all else being equal.

Or maybe I just like saying the word "forever", eh?

Or maybe it's the notion that if we can get humanity off solar energy and onto alternative energy sources relatively quickly, it will be fun to live in a world with a lot more people and less death and disease and the like. Maybe I just think that way because my parents are the sort of people who would enjoy seeing the world die a horrible death. Though it's hard to see how their grandchildren would like a lot more people having a lot less fun.

But either way, this idea of a better world to come, the idea of life as good for humans and others on this planet, it seems to me that the religious people have it even worse, even though they're a minority.

I mean, look at what goes on in Denmark.
