sharing a little snippet of my kevin x oc wip fic because i'm a little excited about how cute it is so far !!!
i hope this is satisfactory to everyone who loved the og post and was wanting a fic. i'm taking my time with it bc i want it to be good but for now have this little grocery store interaction
~
“How are your classes going?” Kevin asked, as he followed James down the cereal aisle.
“They’re okay. It’s the anniversary of the battle of Hastings, you know 1066, next week. I thought it would be a cool idea to set up a re-enactment after school for the kids. I’m planning to propose the idea tomorrow. Not sure how they’ll take onto it.”
“Not fans of England’s history?”
“Oh no, they love it. Not sure what it is about Americans and the history of English monarchy, but we really can’t get enough of it.”
Kevin huffed out a laugh, watching as James surveyed the cereals, reaching for something called Cookie Crisp. Kevin eyed him, his eyebrow lifted as if to say, really?
James blushed, then dropped his shoulders in resignation, “Oh come on, it’s nice!”
Kevin rolled his eyes, “And full of chemicals and sugar.”
James poked him in the stomach with the box, “Some of us like those things.”
He placed it in his little shopping cart, and Kevin reached over, pulling it back out.
“Seriously?” James said, incredulously.
“Seriously,” Kevin said, as he strode off down the aisle, smirking as he heard James’ quick footsteps following behind him.
He browsed the porridges and oats before reaching for his favourite.
“This, with some berries or nuts and honey, that’s your way forward.”
James stuck his tongue out and made a gagging face, looking away in disgust. But he accepted the bag anyway. Placing it delicately in his cart. Everything had been arranged neatly, and Kevin had watched in fascination as James had piled everything in strategically.
“So, why do you always do your shopping at this time anyway?”

THE ROYAL MINT - 2023
Each year, the Royal Mint issue a number of new commemorative coins to mark the notable anniversaries of the coming 12 months. 2023 is no different, and as we kick off the New Year, the Mint has unveiled two special new coins.
The obverse of each coin features the latest definitive portrait of Their Majesty’s The King and Queen consort.
To commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Boats, this §2 coin features a letter written by Wilfred Douglas, one of Windenburg’s most famous captains.
The Douglas Letter was a valuable source of first hand accounts to one of the most notable incidents in Windenburg history, including a pivotal point happening at Port Hastings during the Battle of Boats. The limited edition coin is likely to be a sought after collector’s piece.
The second release in The Royal Mint’s Landmarks of Windenburg Collection is the Buckingsim Palace one-ounce gold bullion §5 coin, which features a portrait of the regal estate taken during His Majesty’s 2017 Silver Jubilee. Standing at the top of the tree-lined avenue known as The Mall, at the very heart of Windenburg, is Buckingsim Palace, the Windenburg monarch’s main official residence.
Originally a town house built by Sir George Sussex, 1st Earl of Buckingsimshire in 1842, Buckingsim House was purchased by King Edward I in 1858. The monarch added additional wings and renamed it Buckingsim Palace. King Edward I would become the first monarch to use Buckingsim Palace as their official residence in 1860. Stepping out onto the famous balcony during the celebrations for the opening of the Great Exhibition in 1861, he started a tradition that endures to the present day.
The coins are available to buy from The Royal Mint now, and you can even get your hands on a full set of them from The Royal Mint. They are also in circulation, so keep an eye on your change to see whether any wind up in your wallet!
ROYAL MAIL
Silver Jubilee stamps were also reissued, commemorating 30 years of the reign of King George I. The stamps were first issued in 2017 to celebrate His Majesty’s Silver Jubilee.
Two stamps feature 1992 coronation portraits of the King and Queen Rowena.
Two additional stamps feature Their Majesty’s 2017 Silver Jubilee portrait and a rare portrait of the King with the two future monarchs, his daughter Princess Katherine and his grandson Prince Phillip.

25th April 1058 saw Malcolm Canmore crowned at Scone.
If you read the anniversaries I post you will no doubt know Malcolm III was the man who defeated Macbeth to become King, as the years pass by I try to keep the stories on the anniversaries fresh, rather than just post a summary of the persons life.
This legend about Malcolm is one of the earliest mentions of the famous sword dance, still seen at Highland shows and Dancing competitions worldwide to this day.
After defeating one of MacBeth’s generals at the Battle of Dunsinane in 1054, Malcolm placed his sword over that of his enemy and performed a dance over and atop them symbolizing both his victory and his martial dexterity, a quality admired in leaders at this period.
Since, in addition to being a test of skill and agility, this dance of exultation in triumph became a dance of prophecy among the highland warriors. The legend says that warriors would perform the dance over them in order to predict the outcome of the next day’s battle. If the dancer finished without touching the swords, he was assured of victory, but touching the swords could forecast defeat and death.
During the late medieval period, various stories about Malcolm Canmore were already popular in Scotland, as evidenced by their inclusion in several Scottish chronicles.
The story of Malcolm Canmore preventing an attack from a treacherous knight is also found in the Dunfermline Vita of Saint Margaret of Scotland, a thirteenth-century copy of the Life of Saint Margaret that survives in a fifteenth-century manuscript copied at Dunfermline during the reign of James III.
Malcolm received news from a knight of his court that another knight, a great lord, planned to have the king killed. Instead of having the treacherous knight arrested or detained, Malcolm decided to trick him instead. The king planned a day of hunting with his company, extending an invitation to the treacherous knight. But Malcolm ordered his company to let him and the knight be alone during the hunting trip. And so, Malcolm and the knight go alone into the woods and when they arrive at an appropriate place, Malcolm confronts the knight over his murder plans. Malcolm exhorts the knight to do his purpose, to “do his deed with honesty.” After Malcolm assures the knight that, since no one would come to the king’s rescue because they were both alone in the woods, the knight could go ahead with his murder plot. Malcolm warns the knight against being a coward and not fulfilling his oath to kill him! The knight,
With Þat [that] Þe [the] knycht all changeit hew [changed hue]
And his fals purposs saire can rew [he came to regret]
His visage worthit [became] pail [pale] and wan
And hastely he lichtit [alighted from his horse] Þan [then]
And fell on kneis askand mercy
At Þe [the] king of his fals foly.
So, when confronted by the king, the knight became fearful and asked for the king’s mercy. Because Malcolm was magnanimous, he forgave the knight. The knight, then, became the most loyal of Malcolm’s company. This story showed that Malcolm was a good king because he was merciful and this is one of the reasons why his reign was peaceful and worthy of remembrance.

Happy 956th Anniversary to William the Conqueror getting himself to London to get crowned King of England after killing a whole bunch of people at the Battle of Hastings!
Thanks also for taking my ancestors with you to England (they're somewhere in this tapestry) where they ceased just being Viking-descended Normans and became Anglo-Norman and then made the long descent to being Protestants in revolt and then that somehow ending up with me being born Texan. History - what a long, strange trip!
Interesting side note: the tapestry shows a depiction of Halley's Comet.

How Constantinople, the“New Rome”, was dedicated to the Mother of God
On learning of the tyrannical measures taken by the Roman emperor Maximinus II Daza in the East against the Christians, Constantine raised a powerful army, guided by the sign of the victorious Cross, and, during a campaign against the barbarians in Pannonia (1), penetrated Licinius' territory (2) in 322.
After an initial defeat at Andrinople, the tyrant retreated to Byzantium, before being definitively defeated at the battle of Chrysopolis on September 18, 324. The victorious Constantine, in the name of Christ and Truth, set about offering the reunited Roman Empire to the King of kings, and, like a new Apostle, proclaimed faith in the one God and in His Son incarnate for our salvation to the farthest reaches of East and West, from Mesopotamia to Great Britain. In an edict proclaimed throughout the Empire, he declared that God alone was to be considered the cause of his victories, and that he had been chosen by Providence to place himself at the service of good and truth. He urged all his subjects to follow his example, but without coercing anyone.
To this new Christian empire, which was to last a thousand years, Constantine decided to give a new capital, and inspired by a divine sign, the pious emperor fixed his choice on the small city of Byzantium, which occupied a pivotal position between East and West. He himself marked the boundaries of the new city, and instructed the master builder, Euphrata, to spare no expense in endowing it with monuments and public thoroughfares surpassing all other cities in the world in glory and magnificence.
When the city was founded on November 8, 324, Byzantium was named Constantinople and New Rome, and was subsequently dedicated to the Mother of God. Work was carried out with great haste, and on August 11, 330, the twenty-fifth anniversary of the emperor's reign, the inauguration of the new capital was celebrated with great pomp.
