I rewatched the first season of HTGAWM last week and god that was some GOOD tv. Annalise was everything (bi black woman who actually got to explore that and feel everything without being made out to be hysterical or super humanly strong? inject it!) and those five were a mess. Still don’t believe she did all that to save them (even Michaela my fave) because they were so ungrateful and nasty. I didn’t want to continue because as much as I loved Eve the show lost me after the whole Wes thing. It unravels a little near the end but season one is terrific for the mystery alone.

I rarely ever re-watch shows (idk if that's a neurospicy thing or what...because I never re-read books either lol), I usually rewatch individual episodes I know I like, out of order.

Annalise was one of the few times we got to watch a BW be mean as hell, but also vulnerable. Her anger and frustrations were justifiable. I will say I also hated how often the K5 treated her like a mammy to fix their messes for them, only for their ungrateful asses to turn on her in the final season and pin the murders on her. I don't know why the writers did that. I feel like it was because they didn't know what else to do with Michaela and Connor's characters, specifically. Like outside of romance drama.

The writers had a bad habit of writing themselves into corners.

They did it with Wes' death, Michaela's cheating plot, and Frank's plot. Because as soon as I learned that Alfie didn't even WANT to leave the show, and they wrote him out anyway, I knew they did it because they didn't know what else to do with his character and thought this would cause a boost in the ratings. And yeah, it did. Then people said they'd stop watching. And then they suddenly realized that people actually LIKED Wes (who was the anchor of the show next to Annalise), and spent the entire next season teasing that he might come back because they realized they fucked up. Like how are you gonna write his character off, realize you fucked up, and then beg him to come back for flashback scenes?

I loved that show. I loved Annaleve and Lauraela and all the mess. But the writing towards the end was atrocious.
