For halloween ive decided to make some little animations of scenes from books that scared me as a kid. Hoping to make more but excited i finished one. This one is david from the animorphs. This scene scared the shit out of me as a kid. Theres a ton of good david scenes for his books, but untimately the tv glow seemed fun to try animating for this one.

Since y'all really liked my other animorph art, here's one from the Hork Bajir chronicles.
Tumblr media
The more I read these books the more I hate the Andalites, which I think is suppose to be the natural progression of the reader.
First off, Seerow's kindness is just tragic all around. If I was super advance and saw intelligent life stuck living in mud puddles or monkies I'd want to help them as well. But at the same time I understand the Yeerks. If my choices were mud puddle/monkey or I could take a host and experience the joys of sight and sound.... i think I'd take a host. It's all around such a tragic situation and it's such an amazing story to hear play out.
And man, the Hork Bajir. Poor Dak, you learn your entire species was specifically made to be less intelligent and now every other species looks down on you for that. I feel bad for Aldrea too of course. Seeing your entire family killed then forcing a war on peacful species because it's that or enslavment.... just... man.
I love these chronicle breaks but it's really not much of a break when it's so much freakin sadder. But I do love Aldrea and Dak, they wefe adorable. Very Tarzan and Jane but with way more war and way more tragedy.

(insert red-tailed hawk emoji here)
Been feeling very nostalgic lately, so here’s a sketch of a certain red-tailed hawk… will probably go back and render this, but until then! ✌️

I have no ideas what animorph is but I already seen it mentioned on at least 5 different blog which have nothing to do with each other (you being the 5th) what the hell is it???
90s/early 00s young adult sci-fi book series of around 60 short books, published once a month, by K A Applegate.
The books were distributed cheeply by the Scholastic book fair, and could be found in most school libraries thought the Mid 00s.
The plot was 5 normal kids have to stop a secret alien invasion by turning into various animals, and the books were known for starting off with quirky humour and very rapidly decending into utter existential horror with body horror, possession horror, and the ptsd you'd get if you were actually a teen super hero and had to fight an actual war with real stakes aged 13-16, and the fear of never knowing who your real enemy might be. The series ended about a month before 9/11 with a disastrous final battle and a grim warning about how war never really fixes any of the underlying problems between rival nations or peoples, and just destroys good people, so... yeah, ooof.
Due to the content, beloved by horror fans, super hero fans, Sci fi fans, furries (the kids have the power to turn into animals for combat and it gets real weird real fast), and the queer and the trans community, so it turns up on a lot of unrelated blogs.
The audio books are still readily available and are pretty well done, and the cover art of the books was gloriously 90s.
Behold!

There was also a tv show we dont talk about.
The main cast were:
Jake: the leader. There is an evil alien slug living in his brother's head, and this causes issues for him.
Cassie: Jake's crush. The moral center of the books. Also her parents are veterinarians at a zoo, with is very fucking convenient if you need a ready sourse of animals to turn into.
Marco: Jake's best friend, the smart one. Also uses inappropriate humour to cope with trauma (relatable).
Rachel: Jake's cousin. Uses turning into a grizzly bear and committing extreme violence to cope with her trauma (relatable).
Tobias: perminantly turns into a bird to escape his trauma (most relatable) but then has to deal with extreme body and mental dismorphia as a result. Has a star-crossed lovers plot with Rachel. He is my favorite.
Ax: an alien teenager they just adopted and hide in the woods. Is also my favourite. He's a bright blue centar with stalk-eyes and a sythe tail, and he loves Cinabon and warcrimes. Due to his extreme alien mindset, he's been taken as a metaphor for Neurodivergance, but it's unclear if that was the author's original intent.
The books are awesome, and still available as e-books, comics and audio books I'd you want to check them out.
Here is a video essay that does a far better job of explaining:

did anyone else here use to read the Animorphs book series? cause im remembering just how dark those books got.
like im pretty sure in one Rachel gets her arm torn off and preceeds to beat up someone with her dismembered arm.
and i pretty sure most of another book was just Tobias getting tortured for its entirety in graphic detail?
like damn. these books were aimed at 11 year olds.

yo animorphs fandom, can y'all help me find/confirm something in regards to space travel in the books? i keep running into results about z-space, but i'm not confident that's the thing i'm looking for because it's associated to morphing technology
i think it was either elfangor or ellimist/toomin that described how ships were able to travel around - that space was basically bent/folded? like to get to point A and to B, even if they're light years apart, space distorts around the ship and it allows the vehicle to snap from one location to another
like so
Tumblr media
it might actually be related to z-space?? i couldn't parse it from the wikis
and if someone has the specific book excerpt about this, i would appreciate it immensely if you could share it!

I’ve become a Animorphs dealer.
After a thread about Animorphs on good old tumblr, I sent my entire collection of very pirated Animorphs books to a random user, told my friend group about it and emailed them Animorphs. Guys I’ve emailed six people now my large stash of Animorphs books.
Anyone want all the Animorphs books except for number one up to 13?

So…the Season of the Crow Witch begins before Halloween, probably the last full moon before Halloween. But, when does it end? I'd guess the first full moon after New Year's Day, but it could run all the way from the start of Autumn through the first sprigs of Spring.
