Let’s just say you’ll have a good story later on.

Here we post ribbon ideas that are either actually bad ideas, involve a fandom taking 5000 psychic/emotional damage from the sight of it, are far too specific to be plausible, inconveniences the one handing them out, involve general cosplay malfunctions, or really, really dumb dad jokes.

Ronnie knew something was up from the moment she drifted out of dreamland. Her room smelled sweet and earthy, like she was waking up in the middle of a spacious, green meadow.

Two familiar voices whispered back and forth, and now the girl was acutely aware she was not alone in what was supposed to be her private space. Her sanctuary of knickknacks and band posters had been violated.

"Are you sure we got everything? I feel like we're missing something."

Ronnie peeked one eye open, catching a glimpse of Roxy standing at the foot of her bed. A bright blue ribbon was braided into her hair.

"You've asked me this, no less than a million times," Another voice bit back, and Ronnie shifted her gaze toward the sound. Olive was setting something down by the closed door.

If it were anyone else, Ronnie would pass out at the notion her private space was being invaded, but now that she knew it was her friends, she felt slightly more at ease. Today was her birthday after all, so he presumed that was what all the ruckus was about. Screwing her eyes shut, she let the two continue their conversation.

"The movie, the snacks, the fun stuff..." Roxy's voice was low and panicked, and Ronnie could imagine her listing out the items on her fingers. "Is the thing from Katie in there?"

"Shh," Olive replied, just as animated, "You're going to wake her before we're ready and ruin it!"

It took a lot for Ronnie not to giggle at her friend's words, and just to mess with them she shifted in her bed, bundling deeper into her yellow patterned covers.

One of the girls gasped, and something wrapped in crinkly plastic dropped to the floor.

"Roxanne," Hissed Olive, and the plastic bundle was quickly swiped off the carpet. "Chill. It's going to be perfect, I swear."

"Aww, I know, I know," The guitar player affirmed, taking a few breaths in and out, " But the first birthday in L.A. is the most important, and we need to show up Kendall-"

At the mention of her boyfriend, Ronnie's heartrate doubled. If Olive and Roxy were concerned with showing him up, he must have something wonderful to surprise her with later.

"Good point, I had to convince Logan to steal his spare key so he couldn't beat us here. Then I deadbolted the Clark's door."

"Ugh, I love you so much." Roxy huffed, "Now, do we let her get up on her own, or should we sing 'Happy Birthday' or something?"

Olive's scoff could probably be heard three doors down. "Not unless you want to scare her worse than the movie might."

To make it easy on them, Ronnie took his as her cue to begin to "wake up." The writer made a big show of rolling onto her back from her side, reaching her hands up to her eyes to slowly rub them as she sat up in her bed. It was nice and warm under her covers, and though Vermont was always freezing this time of year, Los Angeles, she was learning, got pretty cold too.

Hurried footsteps shuffled on the carpet, and when Ronnie finally allowed her eyes to flutter open, a gigantic bouquet of bright yellow sunflowers wrapped in a red and green ribbon filled her field of vision.

Ah, that explains the smell...

"Surprise!" Both girls yelled in unison, one on either side of her twin bed, "Happy birthday, Ronnie!"

The songwriter threw on her best shocked face, jaw dropping open as her mouth curled into a smile as the sweet scent enveloped her senses. "...Woah. Cool."

Something in her nonchalant tone must have tipped Olive, standing in her adorable rubber ducky pajamas, off, as the girl whipped her head to face the writer, "I told you, she already knew!"

"No, no, no!" Ronnie's hands flew from under the covers, coating her fingers in the cold, "You surprised me, definitely... I just might have heard all the whispering."

Pinching her nose with fingers barely visible under her black long-sleeve pajama shirt, Roxy looked to the ceiling. "James always tells me I'm bad at whispering..."

"But this is perfect!" Ronnie assured her friends, taking the bouquet from the two of them. It was a bit awkward for them to catch her in bed, but at least she'd fallen asleep in her favorite hoodie and black pajama pants. That certainly lessened the girl's anxiety.

"Well... Let's keep it that way," Roxy playfully huffed. Since Ronnie didn't like being unexpectedly touched, instead of the two girls hauling her out of bed, they beckoned her out of her bedroom and into the living room as fast as they could, with Olive picking something by the door up before darting out of the room before Ronnie could see it.

Curious, she followed Roxy down the short hallway and into her living room, where her dad was waiting in the kitchen.

He had a mug of coffee in his hands, small streaks of steam curling off the top, before he walked over and gave Ronnie a light kiss on the top of her blue hair. "Happy birthday, kid."

There was a card in front of where he was standing on the counter, which he motioned to, before giving her a wink and shuffling back down the hall into his bedroom.

I'll get that later...

Upon further inspection, Ronnie's eyes followed to where her best friends were standing... In the middle of what looked like a nest of pillows and blankets on the floor of her living room, right in front of the TV.

The two of them had gigantic smiles, clearly very proud of their little set up.

Ronnie blinked a few times, it was odd not seeing the living room like it normally was, but the black and red plaid blankets they'd brought looked so soft, and the pale yellow pillows looked so fluffy...

"Another surprise!" Roxy called, arms sweeping in a grand gesture over the living room. "Movie morning!"

"Movie morning?" Ronnie echoed, curious, but slightly confused.

This was where Olive jumped in, still hiding something behind her back. "Kendall said we can only have you until 2 o'clock. So, we figured since he's taking you out, we'd keep you in."

"Your dad helped us pick out all of your favorite movies, so we should be able to watch at least two or three before Ken-Dork comes to get you... Though I will warn you, we will be tagging along on your birthday date like good best friends do."

The blue-haired girl cocked her head to the side.

"Well, we can't say where he's taking you," Olive added, "Just know that when Kendall told us, Logan wanted to go too... So he said we could tag along."

"But then I kinda, sorta, got massive FOMO about your double date," The guitar player admitted, running a hand down one of her braided pigtails. "...And then James wanted to go because I was going..."

"And you couldn't leave Carlos and Ash behind?" Ronnie guessed, trying to work out what the shorter girl was holding.

Both of them nodded.

"...So, movie morning!" Olive said again, this time, taking the small basket she'd been holding onto and thrusting it into Ronnie's hands.

The small wicker material was scratchy in her hands, but not unpleasant. Tucked inside were three cards she'd open later, but for now, her eyes landed on the assortment of snacks and self-care products the girls had stuffed in there on top of some yellow Easter grass.

"We weren't sure which self-care stuff would be okay, texture-wise," Roxy shared, "So we got a bunch. Try all of it or none of it. Won't hurt our feelings at all."

Ronnie had seen most of the products before, face masks, bath bombs, some nice lotion... And made a silent promise to give each of them a go.

Olive stuck out a black-painted nail, "No sweets either, Miss Salty, so there's your favorite chili lime Doritos and a bunch of other goodies to much on while we get our movie on."

Looking from the basket, back up to her friends, Ronnie's smile was genuine this time. No more trying to mask surprise, they'd truly gotten her with their morning plans... And her stomach flip-flopped at the idea of whatever Kendall was planning too. "Thanks, you two."

She spied the TV, which was playing the menu screen for her all-time favorite movie: Scream.

Those girls knew her so well.

In no time at all, the three of them were huddled in a big, warm pile under the blankets, and Ronnie hit play on the remote. Despite the early hour, she'd broken into her snacks almost immediately, because who didn't need something to munch on while watching something?

All in all, her first birthday in Los Angeles started off with a bang. It was certainly the special, memorable event the two girls had wanted it to be, and there was still even more to come.

It’s finally happening… my dream A/Z shoot…

I truly never thought I’d get to do a shoot recreating the beautiful scene from the final episode of A/Z. Between years of planning, plans falling apart, losing friends who were involved, and a lot of struggles, I really never thought it would be real.

But it is. It’s finally happening.

If any Aldnoah fans happen to be going to Anime Los Angeles in January, my friend and I will be doing this shoot on Thursday night of con on Long Beach, and we’re planning on making aldnoah/orangebat ribbons to hand out! Come join us!!
