You know what got me about Solas…. The prison he’s in in Rook’s mind is designed specifically to torture him. It’s a hell of his own making, constantly surrounded by his regrets.

He assumes Rook would deal with it just the same as he did: by wallowing in misery and despairing.

It was pride that didn’t let him see that Rook’s regrets won’t necessarily weigh them down like they weighed him down. Projection- what pain is worse than this? And handed to someone who has not had millennia to dwell on their actions?

Alternatively: he was just buying time and hoped that Rook wouldn’t get out too soon. In this case, I wonder how long he thought he had

“They played it safe with DAV’s banter” sure! I’ll give you that. But also consider how this specific party was formed versus the other ones- DA2 consisted of Criminals with Issues (affectionately) and in inquisition the inquisitor brought on anyone who seemed to have even a scrap of use, never mind their experience with organization or even with other people. Recruiting Dorian, Sera, Cole and Iron Bull was an objectively weird choice (a choice I love!!) but politically it was weird and put the inquisition at risk- risk that Josephine kept telling you she was fielding.

DAV is full of people who have spent their lives dedicated to a cause and have interacted with enough people to know when to put personal feelings aside for the team effort, even if it has to be mediated like with Lucanis and Davrin. These were people specifically chosen for their expertise and professionalism, it makes sense that they wouldn’t ask each other things like “have you ever thought of killing yourself”.

That said I, too, wish there was more familiar banter as the game went on. It exists (Davrin and Lucanis’ banter towards the end is very sweet,) but it’s definitely not as fleshed out as the other DA games. Shame that at the end of the day it’s EA that got in the way of what the writers wanted

I really liked the Neve and Lucanis romance… I think they’re cute together…
