Well, one of them guessed right. It probably helped that Michael did two previous shows with Christian, during which Christian fangirled about Falsettos and Marvin. It is really cute that he did think of him.

Leslie did attend opening night and I think this is the first time I’ve heard from Jonathan since the original closed. It’s cool that he came back for this.

#80: Sin malos rollos.

Maddie (Jennifer Lawrence) tiene problemas económicos, trabaja como camarera y conductora de Cabify para poder sobrevivir, suerte que su madre le dejó su casa ya pagada y que solo se tiene que preocupar de subsistir, pero las cosas siempre se complican. Pero no solo tiene problemas en ese ámbito, también tiene problemas para tener relaciones sentimentales. Ya que se siente incapaz de comprometerse más allá de algunas semanas.

Todo eso está estrechamente ligado con el abandono que sufrió por parte de su padre, un veraneante habitual de su pueblo, que mantuvo una relación extramatrimonial con su madre, dejándola embarazada y dedicándole tiempo e interés 0 a Maddie desde que nació.

Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman) va a ir a la universidad el próximo año, pero está todavía muy verde, no se relaciona con nadie, ni se siente capaz de ligar con chicas. Por todo esto, sus padres deciden regalarle un coche a cualquier chica que pase el verano con Percy y le ayude a entrar con buen pie en la universidad y si es posible le haga perder la virginidad.

Esto a Maddie le viene perfecto después de que por sus deudas le quiten el coche que usaba para moverse por el pueblo y para trabajar como conductora, por lo que acepta el "trabajo" sin problemas de moral.

Maddie va siempre a saco con Percy esperando acostarse con él lo antes posible para conseguir el coche, pero esto solo hace que cada vez el chico salga antes corriendo, cada vez de manera más cómica, para huir de ella.

Percy y Maddie acaban encajando como buenos amigos, ambos se ayudan con sus propios traumas, ella le ayuda a él a abrirse al mundo antes de llegar la universidad y él la ayuda a ella con el trauma de su padre, y como se aferra a la casa de su madre por su si padre decide volver.

Supongo que la finalidad de la película es ver a dos personas que no tienen nada en común encajar en determinada circunstancia, el sentido del humor es rarísimo, a los americanos le hacen gracia unas cosas que te dejan de piedra.

Al final, Percy se va a la universidad, dispuesto a conocer gente, y Maddie le vende su casa a buen precio a unos amigos que van a tener un bebé para que se establezcan en el pueblo que ella siempre amor. Pero sabe que es necesario salir, conducir su coche más allá de Los Angeles y empezar a vivir su vida de verdad.

Maddie lleva a Percy a la universidad y ella también empieza a tomar conciencia sobre su propia vida, tomando decisiones respecto a la misma. Ambos se ayudan a avanzar y evolucionar.

Look, I'm not gonna lie, I thought this would be wilder and funnier. I just feel like the movie doesn't know if it wants to be a raunchy comedy or a feel-good, heartfelt one, and it struggles when it comes to handling both tones. It's certainly not a bad film, but I kept thinking it could be much better. Tbh, Jennifer Lawrence and Andrew Barth Feldman are the main reason why it's watchable. They pull off both the comedic stuff and the dramatic content, and they do it with ease. Anyway, I think a movie with such a salacious plot should be less forgettable.

248 - Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle

We are returning to the work of Jennifer Jason Leigh this week, and Jourdain Searles is joining us once again with an underrated and underseen gem. Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle takes on the life of indelible writer Dorothy Parker, capturing her days with the insular Algonquin Circle and her later dissolution with the group, all with Jennifer Jason Leigh as the noted wit. Launched at Cannes, the film was celebrated for her performance even with a limited audience, including Golden Globe and Independent Spirit nominations for Best Actress. But even in a famously uncompetitive Best Actress lineup, Leigh was left out.

This episode, we talk about Leigh's several close calls for a nomination in the 1990s and our feelings about the nomination that she eventually received for The Hateful Eight. We also talk about Pulp Fiction's domination on the independent film scene, the Cannes Film Festival, and the influence of producer Robert Altman.

No Hard Feelings has a brief montage of activities that include laser tag, and in the two or three moments taking place in the laser tag place, there are strobe lights flashing. One scene has police car strobe lights at night, and although they are literal strobe lights, the rate of flashing seems to be slower than regular police car strobe lights.

There are a few scenes filmed with handheld cameras and mild shaking. One shot looking straight down and spinning may be disorienting for about 15-20 seconds.

Flashing Lights: 6/10. Motion Sickness: 3/10.

TRIGGER WARNING: One character vomits into a toilet (body language and graphic noises only) after drinking alcohol.

🎬On the brink of losing her childhood home, a desperate woman agrees to date a wealthy couple's introverted and awkward 19-year-old son. However, he proves to be more of a challenge than she expected, and time is running out before she loses it all.

📝A perverted story of a 32 year old woman who agrees to sleep with a 19 year old kid because she wants to save her childhood home (because you know she has never heard of remortgaging her house) and what's worse, his parents put an an ad out to basically find a sex worker (which is what she acts like by accepting the "offer") because he is so shy. It's an absolutely disgusting story which I didn't finish watching because it's just not acceptable. Avoid and don't encourage more of this rubbish.

Surprisingly sweet and subversive '00s comedy from director of Good Boys. Lawrence needs more comedy work in general.
