Also I gotta know - with their friendship banter, do they banter each other into a kiss, or is it flirty friendship/primarily just friendship? When is their first kiss? (I'm a sap okay) is it just a kiss/a kiss at all, or more?

FINALLY I think I can answer this and I'm glad I waited because my first guesses didn't end up being the choices I made. I thought it would be a kiss at the end of book 2 in the haunted house but that didn't feel right. Then I thought about waiting until after the auction but gave in before. Purely going by book canon, the first kiss (other than a couple on the cheek before) is back at the warehouse after having Mason's crystal cleansed.

They joke and they flirt and there's plenty of steamy looks and flustered encounters but Andie knows there's no going back from a kiss. It might mean too much for her and not enough for him and then they're out of sync where he wants more and she wants more but it different ways and that could be a disaster and ruin everything and and and...

But after that afternoon when he asks, there's no words, only gestures and maybe they're finally on the same page and she isn't risking a friend just because of a racing pulse and promise of some excitement. Definitely has the "I love you" realization and it catches her off guard but she didn't think her feelings for him were that deep. She was totally friendzoning herself mentally.

After the kiss though, her brain is going a mile a minute. Did it mean what she thought it meant? Was it just the vulnerability of both of them after a difficult afternoon? Had she given in during a moment of weakness? It felt right, it felt really really right, but after all of Mason's hot and cold she can't help but worry it was the wrong thing or it's going to have disastrous consequences.

Then things move quickly for the auction and she doesn't have as much time to think about the kiss. Kiss or no kiss, she's trying to focus on the task ahead and honestly is just about emotionally shot with guilt over the kidnappings and everything else. When Mason comes to her after and asks to have that night, there's no question or hesitation. She in too deep now, she needs him and is tired of fighting herself and over thinking and after everything else that night, this seems like a small risk to take, one she's more likely to regret not taking.

He curls around her smelling of smoke and sandalwood and she's so tired and ragged and spent emotionally that when she sighs against him she worries that tears might burst out from the sheer relief and comfort. Luckily she's physically to tired for that and the relief wins out and she falls asleep.

I absolutely love your character HCs and would like your opinion on another: CE Characters reacting to random physical affection. For example, they're reading something and you caress their cheek, run your fingers through their hair, start scratching their back, or even a quick kiss on the cheek?

Steve Rogers

Steve is sitting at the edge of your shared bed, getting ready to take a nap as he’s tired after days of hard work at S.H.I.E.L.D. You decide while he’s sitting there that you should get behind him and give him a back rub. He’s surprised as he looks behind, and that’s when you continue to do a back massage.

“Oh that feels really good, doll. Thank you…is there anything you would like me to do?”

He always wants to service you back, but this time you deny him other than have him stay where he is so you can show care to him. He appreciates it a lot and from then it becomes a frequent occurrence.

Ransom Drysdale

Ransom is sitting on the couch, reading through a magazine about the nominated mystery novels, among those being Harlan’s newest book. He’s so into the reading of reviews that he doesn’t notice you getting behind him, and his head goes blank when your fingers run through the root of his hair. It’s unexpected but it feels heavenly to him, - but of course Ransom being Ransom ruins it as he gets defensive.

“What are you doing that for?” He asks, and you respond how you simply want to take care of him. He laughs as if he finds the idea is amusing to him, and dodges his head away from your touch, “I’m fine, I don’t need you to do that.”

Ransom later groans in frustration when you’re not there, realizing how much of a mistake it was to deny you because he knows he won’t have you touching him like that now unless he asks for it. He hates asking for things like that, but he has to learn from his consequences after all.

Andy Barber

Andy is standing by the kitchen island, sipping on his hot coffee while reading the news on the news paper. It’s a morning routine, and that’s why he doesn’t expect anything other than a kiss as a usual morning greeting from you when you come downstairs. However, as he puts the paper aside and meets your lips, you hold his cheeks with the palm of your hands for a deep kiss.

His eyes widens a bit, not expecting something so intimate from you first thing in the morning, and he speaks when you break away, “Woah, honey. Does it happen that I have done something in particular to receive that kind of greeting? Because if I have I’ll have to do it more often.”

You chuckle, shaking your head as you respond something in the lines of you doing it because you love him.

Johnny Storm

Johnny is in the living room couch eating his ham sandwich while watching WWE, unaware you’re right behind him. With the both of you being playful comes with shenanigans, and now you are given the opportunity to do something to take him by surprise. You give his hunched shoulder a kiss, and as he leans back to see your face with a dopey smile you grab a handful of his pecs for a squeeze, making him burst out laughing from the ticking sensation.

He puts the plate of food on the table before jumping over the couch, attacking you with physical affection and being grabby with your breasts as you laugh and push him away playfully. “Baby, you started it, it’s only fair I get to do it back.” He says, not letting you get away. You eventually give in to his embrace.

He loves surprises, especially of those being from you where you touch him in the most interesting places.

Jake Jensen

Jake spends time playing video games mid afternoon on his time off, hoping to reach high levels before he inevitably has to go weeks without playing as he goes on missions again. You check on him, chuckling to yourself as you overhear his series of roasts to the team through the headphone microphone as he gets ahead of them. You decide you don’t want to disturb him, and walk over to place a quick kiss on his cheek which makes him stiffen from the sudden affection but he welcomes it.

“Aw thanks, babe…lemme give you one too.” He requests softly, and you get closer giving access to your cheek, receiving a gentle kiss from him.

He decides he hasn’t had enough and leads out to spend time with his girl, not caring that he’s loosing scores as the game carries on.

Bryce Langley

Bryce has been watching tribe documentaries for hours at his place, to the point of having to lay down on the couch with his eyes getting tired. While he naps his eyes, you come by, placing yourself on the empty space beside Bryce’s head on the couch. You sigh, turning off the documentary and Bryce furrows his eyebrows in protest, but before he can say anything, he is given a massage on his scalp, making him relax again.

“Oh fuck, that feels nice, baby. Keep going…” he requests with no shame, the feeling too good to deny.

Ending the evening with a head massage was certainly not in his plans, but Bryce can’t say he minds it at all. Your affections comes above his obsessions.

MASON HUGS!!!!!!!! Hugs and cheek kisses are where it's at with these two. Andie isn't actually opposed to a fling, she just realizes she's getting feelings of some sort by the time he actually suggests it. She says she wants complicated but that's kind of a lie. They sleep together and then what? Friends with benefits? Mason moves on and doesn't give her the time of day? Awkward feelings that make it hard to work together? Losing whatever weird but enjoyable teasing they have going on? Those are all much more complicated prospects and she'd rather stick with whatever they have now than risk screwing it up.

But oh, when he lets her touch him. She wraps her arms around him and he pulls her close. There's nothing else like it and she wouldn't ever trade it for a steamy night of passion. I mean, having both would be great, but if she had to chose, this is what she wants. Even if it never goes further than that, just knowing she has a place in his arms is enough.

Ransom Drysdale

Ransom would turn his face away, hoping you hadn’t noticed anything different about him, but he quickly realizes you had seen him and he would let out a shaky sigh. “Fuck,…you weren’t supposed to see me like this..” He says while chuckling, but it’s forced as he’s just feeling very awkward about the situation, on top of his sadness. He hasn’t shown his vulnerability to anyone since he was a child, so it takes a lot to swallow his pride and accept he has been caught, - though he doesn’t mind as much as expected since it’s only you, his girl, who’s witnessing him in such a vulnerable state. He’d still play off relaxed and carefree to cover up his internal breakdown.

Johnny Storm

Johnny would be like a deer in headlights, and deny he was crying, saying something in the lines of; “-I’m fine! Hahah, I’m not crying, I just…I had something in my eye and…” his voice is choked before he can complete his sentence and he swallows a sob as his fake smile fades, facing with the fact that he had been caught being vulnerable. “Shit…this is embarrassing. I’m not supposed to cry,…I..- I’m a hero for fuck’s sake.” He’ll say, more tears spilling than he can wipe off. He isn’t good at hiding his emotions - just like his excitement and pride, his sadness isn’t easy to cover up when it hits hard.

Steve Rogers

Steve wouldn’t intentionally hide his sorrow away from you. It would be more like he had in a moment of thinking while alone started crying as something bugs him, and if you show up while that happens, he’ll be straight up honest about it. “It’s just one of those days…don’t worry about it, my love. I’ll be…I’ll be fine.” Steve explains reassuringly, not wanting to get into the details yet as he’s letting the tears fall. He doesn’t have a shaky nor hoarse voice, - the tears are the only proof he’s in a sad mood. He’s very composed, but that doesn’t level down his sorrow compared to the others.

Jake Jensen

Jake would be embarrassed if caught while shedding tears but he would be the first one to seek your comfort. First thing he would do when he realizes you’re in his presence is to do a double take before he stands up, slowly walks over to you and hugging you tightly, only if you’ll allow him to. “I’m feeling so fucking down and…fuck, I thought I could contain it but I can’t anymore…” He’ll admit, feeling weak but he knows he’s safe being vulnerable with you.

Bryce Langley

Bryce would be defensive once he realizes he’s caught in a moment of his sorrow, but not in a mean way. “Nothing’s wrong,….I want to be alone.” He would simply say, at loss of other words as he feels another layer of emotion beyond sadness; shame. He doesn’t express his unhappiness much, and he’s usually the one to be so upbeat and make people feel better. So when he’s seen like this even in front of his girlfriend for the first time, it’s as if he feels like he’s failed her of keeping that usual positive persona.

Andy Barber & Ari Levinson

Andy and Ari would respond to you catching them crying somewhat similar. They would first take note of your worried face and they would wipe their faces dry as they respond something in the lines of, “Sorry sweetie, don’t mean to worry you. My thoughts are kind of running at the moment and…well, this is a result of that…”, wanting to reassure you there’s no ‘catastrophe’ going on. They’re aware they don’t cry often, and they can imagine your mind wandering when you catch them in such a state. While they only moments ago were feeling upset about something, their concern is moved over to you, which may be the reason why they don’t find themselves crying much anyway. The times they do cry though is when they feel very vulnerable, but not too vulnerable to hide their feelings away from you.

Bonus: You would of course in response of all these comfort them like the good girlfriend you are, and they would appreciate that very much (some probably not in the heat of the moment *cough cough* Ransom & Bryce *cough cough* but in the end they certainly would)!

Northern California is getting wrecked by a heat wave, so I've had plenty of time indoors listening to music. Last week I learned that after Allison Brice was in The Eighteenth Day of May and before she was in Lake Ruth, she was part of a project called The Silver Abduction (New York and London). This album is the result of two decades of music collaboration with Andy Dragazis (Blue States).

Lake Ruth's defining sound is Allison's voice, and from the sound of the one track currently available, The Silver Abduction will rely on her beautiful voice as well.

Lake Ruth is apparently finishing up their third album. I bought their first LP on The Great Pop Supplement. Also, they released singles with Kleine Untergrund Schallplatten (KUS) and Slumberland Records.

From the looks of it, The Silver Abduction LP is self-released.
