realised i never posted any of my 2024 summaries for tv shows, movies and fanfic. i don't feel like making three separate posts so will condense it all in one post and then make a separate post about my 2025 goals <3

first up: tv shows

i watched 1156 episodes in total from 50 different series (less episodes and series than last year). of the 1156, i had already seen 922 of them which is a bit embarrassing tbh

the most watched in a month was 186 (in january) and the least was 48 (in december). i did try and track days but wasn't consistent

including rewatches, my most watched show was schitt's creek. excluding rewatches, my most watched show was the great british bake off lmao

my most watched episode was - for the second year in a row - currahee (episode one of band of brothers)

my top three genres were comedy, drama and scifi

in total i watched 41,424 minutes of tv this year! the four shortest episodes i watched were all 20 minutes long (an episode of the bear, one modern family episode and then two yu-gi-oh ones). the longest episodes were both two part pilots (DS9 and monk) but outside of that it was currahee

most episodes of tv i watched were released in 2016 (85). the average and median years of release were 2007 and 2008 respectively. the oldest episode was an episode of next gen from 1987 and i watched 24 episodes that were released in 2024

i did try rating each episode but i was a bit loosey goosey with it all and gave the vast majority five stars. i gave one episode of next gen (man of the people) a one star review because it was horrifically offensive lmao

next: movies

for the first time since i've tracked movie watching, i cracked 100 movies this year! specifically i watched 102. however.... only 12 of these were new to me :/ to put that in perspective there were 12 movies that i watched more than once this year

i watched three movies three times this year: the fellowship of the ring, the phantom menace and jurassic park

my biggest movie watching months were december (18 movies), june (17) and january (16). on the opposite end there were three months where i only watched three movies: may, august and july

the day i am least likely to watch a movie is wednesday! this is interesting because i had two classes on wednesday all year. so i wonder if it was a uni thing or a general middle of the week thing

my most watched genres were scifi, comedy and family/childrens

in total i watched 12,407 minutes of movies this year! the average length was 121 minutes but the shortest was 68 minutes (duck soup) and the longest was the extended version of the return of the king

the oldest movie i watched was duck soup (1933) and i watched three 2024 releases: despicable me 4 (with my nephew, i hated it), the merry gentlemen (with my friends, i hated it) and wallace & gromit: a vengeance most fowl (with my partner, loved it!). the average and median year of release were 2001 and 2002 respectively

my rating system is a bit more rigid with movies but i still gave approximately half five stars, which tracks with the amount of movies i rewatched tbh

finally: fanfic

i read 490 fics! based on the three years i've tracked this, it's a little bit less than average. i read 19 fics more than once (including one fic which i read five times.......) and about half of the fics were rereads (this is interesting to me and i defs wouldn't consider this standard for me)

i read from 33 fandoms this year, my top three were hockey (165), game of thrones (73) and inception (44). which is an absolutely hilarious combo in 2024

my top pairing was jaime/brienne (absolutely no surprise there). arthur/eames (inception) were third overall and the rest of my rop five were hockey (which i won't be sharing)

in total, i read about 4.5 million words - this is 1 million more than last year and 1 million less than the year before that, which is pretty neat imo. my longest fic was 73.133 words and then there were three under 100 words but they were all actually fan art. the average length was a little over 9k which is probably a little under my sweet spot tbh

the oldest fic was from 2004 and most fics were either published in 2023 or 2012. the second makes sense because of all the game of thrones and inception but not sure what was up with the 2023

my biggest reading month was october (91) and my smallest was september (21). this tracks with my uni schedule because all of my major assignments were due in september and then i was free lmao

now, a bit about the actual fics themselves: about half were about characters in developing relationships (makes sense) and a quarter were established relationship (something that i love to read tbh)

for rpf, only 5% of fics were future fics. this surprises me because i love and adore future fics but it might just be because there's not that many out there

for canon, there was a pretty even split between canon compliant and canon divergent fics (both around 35% in total) and then 23% were post canon

the most common trope that i read was apparently fluff. this does not sound right at all because i lowkey hate fluff

other popular tropes wereL polyamory, internalised bi/homophobia, amnesia and infidelity

i don't usually read AUs but the big ones were rule 63, trans characters, modern setting, soulmates and vampires. also lots of different time fuckery fics - time loops, time travel, multiverse fics and age regression - and i loved all of them

most of the pwp i read were either threesomes or first time which is a fun combo imo the other really big one i noticed was cunnilingus - shout out to all the game of thrones girlies who think jaime lannister eats mad pussy

there were 12 fics i didn't give kudos too - some were really old rpf and i got embarrassed about it and then the rest were my own fics that i reread

this was, by far, my worst year for commenting on fics. i'm beyond embarrassed about this. i think it was probably because i was rereading a lot of older fics but that's no excuse

this was my first year at attempting to rate fics. it was a bit of an odd exercise because i think it's odd to rate fanfic. however, it was fun for looking at my feelings towards tropes (remember how i read a bunch of fluff? well i didn't give a single fluff fic higher than 3 stars). i am going to keep doing this

Kaeya, despite being a sickly and gentle child, was his own kind of nightmare for Crepus and the other Dawn Winery staff.

See, Diluc is prone to mischief and chaos, dragging along his younger brother and a couple of other children into his plots and messes.

But Kaeya? Kaeya is the type to end up in the most random, and I do mean most random, of places. He would vanish for several hours, only to be found in an unexpected location such as, oh let's say that one time, he was found eating fruit with some friendly hilichurls...IN LIYUE.

He was such a curious soul that would easily get distracted by the wonders of Teyvat, but since he is so silent in both words and movements, whoever is watching over him would lose sight of him just as quickly.

He has caused several search parties in his youth, only for people to find out he was following a seelie to a treasure chest or napping with a young wolf cub in Wolvendom.

Crepus swears that Kaeya and Diluc are competing on who can give him gray hairs the fastest (so far, Diluc is winning, but Kaeya sure is catching up with every scream of panic from a designated babysitter and Diluc)

In the past few months he’s been dating Eddie Munson though, he’s realized there’s one exception.

That’s why, with a Herculean effort, Steve pulls himself away from Eddie’s lips where he’s in his lap on his couch.

They’re both breathing heavy, lips swollen, and eyes glassy. But Steve has an idea.

He rubs his thumbs over Eddie’s cheeks and breathes a laugh when he turns to nip at one of them. Can’t help but to lean in and kiss him again.

“Can we try something, baby?” He whispers into the barely there space between them.

Feels Eddie nod and hands grip at his thighs.

“Anything you want, Stevie.”

He trails a hand back to tangle in Eddie’s curls and shifts to bite at his ear and whisper, “Want you to fuck me in front of the mirror. Wanna watch.”

When Eddie pulls back from him it’s with a wicked smirk and eyes darker than Steve’s ever seen. He bucks Steve up and off and smacks him on the ass when he turns to leave.

“Yeah baby. Let's go watch how pretty you are.”

He knows his smile is blinding when he laughs back over his shoulder.

Steve always thinks he’s hot, but he thinks he’s prettiest when he’s kneeling and sitting back on his boyfriend’s dick with tear streaks down his cheeks and drool down his chest.

He’s smiling and Steve can feel him laugh when he whimpers against his mouth. “Tell me about it baby. Tell me what’s pretty.”

Gasps from deep in his chest when Eddie wraps his hand around his cock and tugs.

Steve whines once and squirms under the attention. Loves it. 

“My eyes,” he gasps. Eddie hums from behind him and slows his hips to a deep grind. “My eyes look really green when I’m crying. I like them.”

In a second Eddie’s got a palm flat against his back and has his shoulders shoved down into the carpet, his head twisted to see himself.

He knows he’s falling fast because he giggles when Eddie grips at his hips and pulls him back onto his dick. Giggles even more when Eddie looks up at him in the mirror and smirks when he pushes in deep.

“Pretty when I’m ass up for you,” he smiles and his eyes finally stray away from his own reflection to meet his boyfriends gaze, fucked out and cocky.

Ianthe sees something in the hollowed-out Faberge eggshell of Augustine that resonates with her, all that gilded eloquent emptiness and disdain through the ages, so she picked it up from him to try to emulate it. She picked it up so hard that Palamedes -- the exact spiritual antithesis of the 'smoking! on a space station! what a powermove' ennui Ianthe so admired -- spontaneously unnerded enough to even known how to, simply from a sort of contact contamination of the soul.

G1deon and Augustine sharing a jittery smoke after their near-Harrow experience during soup night, and it's the closest thing to any real sense of brotherhood that remains between them. Pyrrha going ten thousand years dying both literally and for a smoke (and then Camilla sold her fucking cigarettes (for a third of what they were worth, probably Pyrrha's own good, and also more importantly grocery money). what an entirely haunted time to be alive etc.). Augustine and Mercy trading a cigarette back and forth in the middle of their collusion over the love and murder of god.

A lot of the art i post on there, i will not deny, it was extremely fun to make. i will not doubt that for a Moment. However: i have realized that most of these do nothing for me.

I think it looks good, but that's not the point, the point was making my heart flutter and i have FAILED. It's probably why I've only been posting like, once a month now. Red Hood Characterization

This is really long so I'm putting a cut here, I've been thinking about Jason Todd's character motivations and the question of whether or not his actions are based in a Moral Code (I don't think so, not to say he's without any morality) and I talk about that in more depth here.

I saw someone say on here that Titans: Beast World: Gotham City was some of the best Jason Todd internal writing they'd seen in a while, and I've been a Red Hood fan for 8 years or so now? pretty much since I read comics for the first time, so I went and checked out and I thought it was good! The way the person I saw talking about it as if it was rare and unusual made me wonder though, because as well-written as i thought his stances on crime were, there wasn't really anything in it that went against the way I conceptualize Jason?

This kinda plays into a larger question I've been thinking about for a while with Jason though, which is that, do people think that the killing is part of a fundamental worldview that motivates him a la batman, and that worldview is the reason he does the things he does?? Because 8 years ago i was a middle schooler engaging with fiction on the level that a middle schooler does, so I simply did not put much thought into it beyond "poor guy :(" but ever since I actually started trying to understand consistent characterization, I don't really see Jason as someone who's motivated by a moral code in his actions the way batman or superman is!

tbh my personal read is that he's a very socially-motivated guy, his actions from resurrection to his Joker-Batman ultimatum in utrh always seemed to me like every choice made leading up to his identity reveal was either a. to give him the leverage and skill necessary to pull off his identity reveal successfully, or b. to twist the knife that little bit more when he does let Bruce find out who he is. Like iirc there's a Judd Winick tweet like "yeah tldr he chose Red Hood as his identity because it's the lowest blow he could think of." And I think that's awesome, I think character motivations rooted so deeply in character's relationships and emotions are really fun to read! I also think it's where the stagnation/flatness of his character comes from in certain comics, because if his main motivation is one event in one relationship that passes, and he is not particularly attached to anything in his life or the world by the time that comes to pass, it's a little harder to come up with a direction to go with the character after that, because there isn't much of a direction that aligns with something the character would reasonably want? But I do think solving this by saying "all of the morally-off emotionally driven cruelty he did on his way to spite Batman was actually reflective of his own version of Batman's stance that's exactly the same except he thinks it's GOOD to kill people" isn't ideal. To be fully honest, it seems to me like he never particularly cared one way or the other about killing people to "clean Gotham of crime," he just did everything he could to get the power necessary to pull off his personal plans, and took out any particularly heinous people he encountered along the way (like in Lost Days.) Not to say I think the fact he killed people keeps him up at night anymore than everything else in his life events, I just never really thought he was out there wholeheartedly kneecapping some dude selling weed or random guy robbing a tv store for justice.

Looping wayyy back to my question, Is this (^) contradictory to the way he's written/the overall average perception of the character? Because like I enjoyed his writing in Beast World i have zero significant issue with anything there, I just didn't believe it would be a hot take, like yeah, that is Jason. It's been a while since I've read utrh and lost days, but I don't think my takeaway directly contradicts either of those too bad iirc. Idk all this to say I think Jason killing and being alright with killing is an obvious and objective fact, but i guess i've always seen it as more of a practical tactic than a moral belief, and I think taking the actions made during the lowest points of a character's life where he is obsessively focused on this ONEEEE thing and trying to apply it as a Motivating Stance to everything he's done after that, doesn't really follow logically for me.
