What's funny is AI would be perfect for modders but it's genuinely not even worth trying. Not because of backlash but because it reflects extremely poorly upon any work you might actually do.
If ya use AI for anything, all anyone can think is: "What corner was cut here that would've been impressive done practically instead?"
Further than that is that it's straight theft with a middleman and everyone is open about it. So anything you do yourself will be scrutinized fairly or unfairly as stolen or lazy in some way.
Like if you put fruit in a blender, it's pretty boring, kinda annoying? Doesn't look very good usually either.
If ya cut that shit up and make it from scratch? That's impressive. Nobody is impressed by your blender or stolen fruit. Nobody hates Blenders for stealing jobs and their art from people who actually do the impressive parts.
The equivalent of buying a boxed shake drink in mystery flavor and claiming you put the work in on it because you obtained it. Or claiming your sport team won because you wore the special hat, and you should be on the team because of it.
In fact, much like sports, art is about the effort and the final product. Anyone can throw a football. But can anyone play football? Learn how to improve? If you aren't improving, you don't have shit to show. AI might improve, but it leaves nothing. Nothing to learn. Nothing to feel. Nothing to gain or lose.
When art is produced with a button, it is no longer art. The models themselves are as close to art as AI can get, so, a folder of other artist's work, basically. What a canvas.
#AI#ai culture#ai art#ai images#ai image#ai artwork#ai art gallery#It's kinda like setting up a theme park and using AI#like sure it's not the most important part that your artistry is non-existant at a fucking THEME PARK#but what other corners are you willing to cut?#what safety measure is to be overlooked for cutting costs?#AI genuinely is the opposite of advertising#because if you use it I genuinely believe you're incompetanf#incapable of recognizing how shackled to the easiest possible route you are that even the most basic aspects get overlooked#Your security is shit. Your actual work is shit. The people you'd trust are shit. I cannot trust AI involvement solely because it#reflects overwhelmingly poorly upon your character#Like if you're some nobody? This obviously ain't about you haha#if you own a business that has people's lives at risk maybe put the effort in#just in general#if ya got a roller coaster? Maybe don't use AI. Maybe don't tell the world it's been decades since the last check up#Oh yeah all of this is going off the assumption ya think AI art is real art#it ain't to be clear. With no intention comes no meaning or message#with no work comes no legacy growth or knowledge to be shared#the entire meaning of life is other life#we build off the foundations of others so that others may build off our foundations#AI stops foundations building upwards and just graffitis everywhere claiming it's art#and while graffitti is art#I'd argue a corporate Arial Font “Obey” in black is not really intentional art#but unintentional in it's messaging it did not mean to convey

decided that 2024 is about effing time to create an art-ish-adjacent piece, so I sat down to make myself an original logo type thing
I decided to go for a cat face (for, well, obvious reasons), but with a twist - half of it is made with only neat, straight lines, while the other half is much more chaotic. So far I only got the draft of the first half:
and for now I'm still wondering what do I want for the other half. So far I'm thinking about much less grid-dependant outline, that will probably be drawed with a crimson red graffitti styled brush
#of course that's only a very rough draft lacking background texture and brush gradients and a lot of other stuff#I basically made it in an hour or two using GIMP and spamming Image Guides every 27 pixels (2.5% of 1080px canvas)#but honestly? this feels like a right way to go from here#and if you're wondering “why split this in half and have those two halves contradict so much?”#...that's symbolism for you.#and why crimson red? because I love crimson red! it's my favourite colour after all

cartagena
am in cartagena. the wifi in the hotel works best when you are on the roof, which also contains the pool. this is a building from 1820, made of like. concrete and plaster. how they have put a whole-ass pool on the roof of a mud building i do not know but there it is. so I’m slightly dripping onto the
only a couple photos behind the cut, just a lil tease
starting with that pool-- pool water in foreground, midground is the rail around the roof, painted to look like water, and then background is the skyline of the rest of cartagena beyond.
This is the view from my hotel room door out into the building’s central courtyard, which is open to the sky above, and the bottom level is a tile floor where there is seating for a cafe and also the hotel lobby, with rooms around the edge there too.
We walked around a bunch today, looking at the old wall of the walled city (which we’re staying in) and then going outside the wall to the next neighborhood, which is called Getsemani and is a kind of artsy slightly lower-rent district. It self-gentrified a bit a while back, trying to attract tourism dollars, and now is coated in beautiful graffiti art and all kinds of Instagram bait. Like this street, colorfully hung with umbrellas.
(further description: it’s a quite narrow street, too narrow for a car, and there are strings across from the roof of concrete buildings each side, from which brightly colored open umbrellas are suspended right-side-up.)
Funny story about the graffitti in Colombia, featuring everyone’s least favorite internet popstar Justin Bieber. This was in Bogotá in 2013, but it has meant that across Colombia graffiti is more recognized as an artform than in many other places, and especially in Getsemani, it is a common decoration to attract tourists to come take photos and then spend money. And it’s beautiful.
We’re having a lovely time and the food is great. The street hustlers are aggressive but not as much so as Istanbul. it’s very hot and very sunny and I have very powerful sunscreen. I’ve worn four of the five dresses I made for this occasion already so far and they’ve all performed very well, and I’m already plotting making more iterations of the same patterns.
Tomorrow we are taking a boat to the Rosario Islands and probably won’t have Internet for a day and a half. I have remembered that I’m afraid of the ocean but I also am so ADHD i will probably be so distracted by the shiny that I’ll forget my fear. We’ll see, LOL.
Anyway, just kinda checking in, have no fear but that I have a thousand selfies in my various me-made outfits, LOL.

Review: Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal
Sanzaru Games • SEGA • 2014 • Nintendo 3DS Read it on Backloggd: (x)
Sonic's always had a strange, yet interesting history on handhelds.
Its history spans five different developers, from Sonic's birth in 1991 to his 25th anniversary in 2016, with each year marking a gradual change in what the games are even supposed to be for. In the 90s it was Ancient and Aspect, trying to replicate the creative, varied, ball-rolling and feel-good adventures or Sonic 1, 2 and 3, cramming them into tiny 8-bit Game Gear games. While they aren't fantastic or even, good, really, you get a sense that they really tried to capture what people were enjoying about Sonic on the genesis at that point and time, and distilling it into a new format. You see this further with Sonic Pocket Adventure by SNK, a lovely tribute to the Genesis games that gets really close to actually feeling like them despite its 8-bitty visuals, yet feels somewhat restrained by not being much more than just a recreation. From there you get Dimps' Sonic Advance games, now latching onto Sonic's striking new identity after Sonic Adventure: It was still a series about feel-good adventures, of course, but now there was a bit more flair to it all. Sonic in Adventure wasn't just a cool design with a cheeky idle animation, he now had a voice, several fluid animations, strikingly expressive graffitti-esque art, he comments on situations and does cool breakdance tricks after beating levels. Somewhat like the Game Gear games before them, the original Sonic Advance became a game trying to distill the essence of Sonic Adventure, the style, the vibes, even the dramatics in the game's memorable Egg Rocket stage, into a format befitting of a handheld. Advance 2 and 3 are obviously much the same thing but for Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes respectively, with Advance 2 channelling the high-octane adrenaline of SA2 levels like Green Forest and Sky Rail into a 2D sidescroller plane, and Advance 3 taking Heroes' team-up mechanics into its own direction.
Yet with Sonic Rush, things began taking a new direction. Not only had there not been a big new Sonic game to try and channel after Heroes, but Dimps had also begun finding their own voice. Sonic Advance 2 had been a monumental triumph in terms of both sales and reviews, and its bold adaptation of 3D gameplay into 2D gave Dimps a somewhat unique basis to build off of – to make Sonic games entirely their own. Even when SEGA would try to reel this back after 2008, instead only having them work on games specifically branded as derivative of others, Dimps now took these games on with a distinctly their-own approach, seen in games like Sonic Colors DS, Sonic Lost World 3DS, and most infamously Sonic 4. In short, Sonic's handheld games had gone from cute imitations, to games driven by their source, to full on original games, to original games using their source as a baseline.
Which now brings us to our fifth and last, developer, for the final Sonic handheld ventures: Sanzaru Games, and Sonic Boom on 3DS.
Shattered Crystal was always going to be fighting an uphill battle compared to its handheld siblings: Mainly, it had little to no foundation to build off of, with Boom as an entity being made specifically to reinvent the series, in a more Americanized direction. For the big debut home console game, Big Red Button was a great choice for this: Jak & Daxter-ifying Sonic with some of that game's lead developers at the helm, whilst not seeming like a great direction to a lot of Sonic die-hards, at least seemed like a great way to get a solid product out. Thing is, unlike games like Advance and Pocket Adventure, Shattered Crystal didn't have a pre-existing thing to try and replicate: Due to being developed in parallel with Rise of Lyric, Sanzaru didn't have much to work off of beyond a few core concepts for the world, and a general idea of teamwork. On top of this, unlike Big Red Button or even Dimps, Sanzaru were in no way known for their excellence in 2D game design, or even known as good developers in general. And so, in a way, Shattered Crystal ended up a hodgepodge of all the different eras of handheld games, trying to both share the brand identity of its console counterpart, yet also be its own thing, but still building its foundations off of some core ideas from the main game, althewhile being fertile ground for the games' developers to grow and learn.
I wanted to give that rundown both because I find it incredibly fascinating to think about, but also because it makes the end product of Shattered Crystal make a lot more sense. Its a messy little game, filled both with ambition to be like what handheld Sonic once was, yet also embrace elements of the 2000s western-made platformers. The game's levels are uncharacteristically large for one, and a lot of the game is focused on exploring them to find collectibles manditory to unlock later levels. The other playable characters, Tails, Knuckles and Sticks, can be switched to on the fly, yet all they really offer is unlocking passageways or access to aforementioned collectibled. Its a very arbitrary inclusion of multiple playable characters, and it combined with gargantuan levels you're forced to explore could have very well ruined the game to be as bland and boring as its Wii U counterpart. So its a good thing, then, that they somehow managed to make Sonic himself feel absolutely fantastic to control. I'm serious: I have no clue how they did it, but Sonic controls like such a dream and has so many movement options, yet remains at a comfortable enough speed to make exploring levels still feasible compared to Dimps' best outings. Its a distinct feel to the character, yet immensely fun to play around with, mainly due to the fun interplay between the airdash and double jump.
To break it down, at any point in midair Sonic can dash either to his sides or straight up, after which he regains his double jump if it was used before. After a double jump he can airdash one additional time, but not in the same direction as the previous airdash, and this repeats until you've airdashed in all directions. What this means is that you can get crazy airtime by doing all of these interlinked airdashes and double jumps correctly, giving you more distance than Tails' flight in most instances the game wants you to switch to him. Jump, doublejump, airdash forward, doublejump, airdash up, doublejump...its reminiscent of those cool strings of moves you execute for long jumps in Mario Odyssey, only far more compelling due to being attached to get-to-the-goal speedrunning stages that still have a lot of options on how to best progress through them. What this means is that when the level asks you to switch to Knuckles to tunnel up a steep cliff, or switch to Tails to cruise over a bed of spikes, and so on, you can almost always execute it faster and more satisfyingly through mastery of Sonics controls. Add to this the fact that the doublejump maintains all of your speed, and the fun Enerbeam that has some really satisfying swinging physics, and you get some levels with some genuinely great flow to them. It takes a similar formula to the Wisps in the mainline Sonic games, switching to far simpler playstyles to clear very specific-to-them challenges, and instead gives you the tools to completely skip them if you're skilled enough with Sonic.
Granted, this doesn't always hold water, and the rushed nature of the game does sometimes catch up to it. Sticks exists to hit switches with her boomerang and she is the ONLY one who can do so, meaning there will inevitably be sections like the start of Scrapyard Zone where you're arbitrarily required to use her. The collectible grind can also halt your flow a lot of the time, like with the strangely out of place Tails Submarine levels where you play a slow and boring diving minigame for 2 minutes each in the middle of an otherwise fast paced game. Or rather, its a game where you can otherwise MAKE the pace faster than it in reality wants to be.
And thats just what makes Shattered Crystal so interesting. Despite everything, it holds on to so many things that makes Sonic games so fun to play, like fast movement, levels you can explore for both items and shortcuts, hell they've even got Richard Jacques – composer of Sonic R and Sonic 3D Blast – doing the music, and its often quite good! The levels themselves are super cool in theming, mostly thanks to each level having a "foreground" and "background", putting new spins on the same level theme sort of like how Sonic Heroes handles its levels. In Shadow Canyons, for instance, you go from grinding on rails and running along scaffolding by these big imposing cliffs, to being flung into the mining facility going on in those mountains. I honestly don't want to spoil the final level because it is such a cool theme for a stage with this system, that it makes the entire game feel worth it just to get to.
Because at the end of the day, for as much cool stuff there is in Shattered Crystal, for as close as it really does come to being a successor to Dimps' handheld lineage, the game is sadly just too much of a chore to get through normally. Unlike a game like Sonic Colors, the explorative nature of the stages isn't just there for optional unlockables, but rather required for progression and beating the game. By the end, you will more or less need a 90% completion rate, meaning most stages need to be both combed through but also beaten with above 50 rings and under a specific time. Its not that this stuff is bad or unfun to do, the game has a super detailed map on the touchscreen showing you where you havent been yet and where things are and I actually really like the autorunner extra stages you can do inbetween levels. It's moreso that it leads to the game feeling at odds with itself: Its immensely fun to speedrun and try to go faster in, but so much of the game wants you to instead do the fun-but-not-nearly-AS-fun collectible hunt. Then, you add that with how the controls can start to really hurt your hands after a while: There's no D-pad movement, meaning you need to slam a somewhat-flimsy circle pad as far to the left or right as it can go to move quickly, whilst also holding down Y at all times to run, whilst also asking you to be ready to use B to jump and A or X to airdash and enerbeam...
It all adds up to Shattered Crystal being a game with truckloads of potential to be amazing, that holds itself back both due to a rushed development and a need for surface-level parity with the slow-as-molasses home console Sonic Boom game it has no business associating with. But when you're able to overcome all those restrictions, when there's no longer a need to collect things, when you've mastered Sonics controls to almost never need to switch to the other bozos, and when you get a true flow going with mechanics you would never expect to be so fun for what the game looks to be on the surface...
That's when you've broken free. Because trouble keeps you running faster.

(It's more of a drabble than fluff but I thought it would be really cute to write about how Eddie fell in love with you 😭)
Eddie is alone most of the time. Whenever Hellfire is done for the week and his band mates are busy, he does things that are familiar. Instinctual. He re-reads The Hobbit, partially out loud to himself with character's voices, wishing it would become a movie already. He sits on the edge of his bed, strumming away at his acoustic graffittied guitar (his electric is special and only used for shows) playing nothing of substance. He takes a scenic drive with speakers shaking from the weight of his mixtape down backroads he had memorized like the back of his hands, but only when he could spare the gas to do so. Usually, anything to fill the quietness of the space around him was enough. He grew up with his parents in a noisy environment before Wayne took him under his wing. He listened to and played loud music all the time, so one would think the silence is welcome. But it isn't. It just leaves room for uneasy, inky black thoughts to worm their way through the folds and wrinkles of his brain.
This all changes once he meets you.
You guys started talking one rare, rainy afternoon after school. You were standing under the metal awning of the tiny high school soaked through to the bone and shivering, cursing your luck and your ride under your breath. Most everyone else had gone home already and the only people left were part of clubs that wouldn't be done until the early evening. Just when you had been considering walking home in the middle of the storm, your knight in shining leather appeared. Eddie had stayed later after school to talk to a teacher about his grade, maybe offer some extra credit. All of his worries and thoughts came to a screeching halt when you walked up to him. He had seen your face around school before (it was a small town after all) and could put a name to your face, but had never talked to you before. He thought he heard you say something, but the way your pretty lips moved and the sound of the rain assaulting the metal awning pulled him into a trance. Your eyes held a color and a sparkle that made the rain behind you turn to falling diamonds. Your wet hair held fast to a halo of grey-blue light, like you were wearing a crown crafted out of the rain clouds in the sky. He only snapped out of the trance you had unknowingly put him in by your own word, ironically. Shaking his head to clear the fog, he laughed softly. "Sorry, what?"
"I asked if you could give me a ride?" You had raised your voice a little, above the sound of the rain.
Eddie nearly collapsed on the spot. "Oh! Oh, yeah, um..sure, yeah." He stutters out, putting his stuff on the ground to shrug off his vest-jacket combo. "Um...actually, maybe I'll just walk.." You had commented as you watched him, taking a slow step back from him with a look akin to one of a cautious deer in your eyes. Eddie looked at you innocently for a second and then just laughs softly once again. "Oh, shit, uh, no its okay. You are just wet and you looked cold, so I...thought you could use it more than me." He explains and you laugh nervously as you take it. You slip your arms through and the garment nearly swallow you whole, as it was already slightly big on Eddie himself.
The both of you jog to his van, him covering your head from the rain with his hands the entire time, and sigh in relieve once the doors are closed. He starts up the van and turns the nearly busted heater on while turning the radio down as well. Your damp face lit up completely when you heard what was playing and you quietly started humming along.
"You like Megadeth?" Eddie had asked, a pleasantly incredulous tone to his voice and he could do nothing but watch as you turned your head, giving him a smile that made every work of art look like kindergarten drawings and a giggle that made even his favorite song reduce to nothing more than a cacophony that was alien to him.
"There's a lot more to me than people think. I'm full of surprises, Munson." You say in that voice that makes his brain all fuzzy. Eddie just chuckles and shakes his head in disbelief, starting the drive to your house as per your direction. You guys talked sparingly throughout the drive, but he wasn't bothered by the lack of conversation. It didn't seem that you were either. You looked perfectly happy and content to watch the rain shower the pavement outside and hum along to his music.
When he pulled into the driveway of your little yellow suburban house behind your parents' car, he turned to watch you climb out. Another small 'thank you' passed your velvet lips and you started to shrug off his jacket, but he stopped you. "If you take it off now, how will you get to the door without getting soaked again? You can give it back to me tomorrow." He says with a goofy grin on his lips as he leans on the middle console. You giggle once again and hop out of the car with your school bag pressed tightly to your chest as you run up to your front door. The overhand of the porch shielded you from the rain and you lifted your hand to wave at Eddie as he pulled out of the driveway, setting off towards his quiet little trailer.
For once, he didn't speed down the streets he knew so well or turn the music up to scream-sing along to. It was the quietest drive he had in a long time and he found that he didn't hate it. He sat on his familiar bed and laid back, his wet, curly and unruly hair splayed out beneath him like dark wings sprouting from his temples. He just laid there for a long while, until Wayne came home from the plant in fact, replaying the events in his head. In only a matter of minutes, he had memorized so much about you and had his heart completely hooked on you.
For the first time in his life, Eddie didn't fear the silence, didn't try to chase it away with familiar sounds and routine movements. He simply laid there and let the thoughts rush in because they were no longer the inky black and infectious bad thoughts he was used to. They were no longer tar-like, seeping through every crack in his defenses until the damn burst. These thoughts were now filled with you. Your mouth and coated everything in honey and gold when you spoke, your eyes that seemed to suck the beauty out of everything around you and make them the centerpiece instead. The way the corners of your lips tucked into your cheeks when you smiled.
For the first time in his life, Eddie Munson didn't mind the silence. In fact, he welcomed it now simply because with the silence came you.
(Sorry its so long, but I hope you like it <33)

THIS WAS SO SWEET AND SO BEAUTIFUL, THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS WITH ME 🥺❤️

A New UI Preview!
Here's a glimpse at my progress so far with the sidebar!
None of this is necessarily final (the history buttons at the bottom, for example, are temporary- they're only there for testing!) The sidebar on the right will be used to display various artwork- character artwork when you're in conversation, and hopefully location artwork based on where you are. If that doesn't go well (which it may not, as I'm not great at environment art), I might instead use it to display some at-hand info while you're walking around, like the contents of your pocket, your stats, or even a highlighted lead. All of this is a for-later concern though, and anything that "might be cool" can be added when the necessary stuff is finished!
The art style I've used there is the best I've come up with. I tried more painterly styles and more detailed styles, but they wound up looking less great on a smaller scale. However, they are also not final! I can whip these up very fast now that I've nailed down a basic concept, so these might wind up as placeholders.
I've already noticed (and had pointed out!) the big imbalance in this new look, haha. The left side looks a little empty while the cassettes are tucked away like that. I'd like to put something back there, but I'm not 100% sure what yet. Probably just some graffitti. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know!
(Btw, the character there isn't one of the MCs- I wanted to "feel it out" first before drawing them. That's a small side characer I've taken a shine to, the guard at Yvette's brothel.)
Phew... sorry, I rambled a lot there! I've got a lot on my mind about this whole UI thing! If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment or send an ask.

My sonic underground revamps
I thought of ways to re-incorporate and revamp sonic’s family from the underground cartoon into, say, the IDW comics or current games even. I also kept in mind the weird new mandates.
Character pictures and profiles below the cut.
We’ll start with Queen Aleena.
In this interation, Aleena was the former queen of Hedge Hill(or another name, still working on that). A town of mostly hedgehogs and where Sonic, Manic and Sonia were born. This was also one of the first places to fall to Robotnik and become one of his many hideouts.
Unable to save the adults of the village, she gathered up as many of the children that weren’t roboticized as she could and fled with them to safety. With all these children and the help of others who managed to escape, Aleena started an orphanage and raised these kids like they were her own. While no longer a queen, she still has a regal aura about her. She still runs the orphanage to this day and takes in many children in need of homes.
Sonia was one of the children raised in the orphanage. She, Manic and Sonic all still have a very strong sibling relationship despite not being blood related. Despite being adopted by an upper class family later on, Sonia isn’t really about upper class life. She’s the most mature of the trio but is still a very fun loving gal. She’s not as fast as her adoptive brothers but her agility and graceful gymnastics are unmatched.
She’s the leader of a punk rock band called “Underground ‘99″. Her favorite things are music, gymnastics, cute girls and veggie burgers.
Manic is the artistic and chill of the trio. He’s a graffitti artist and pro-skater. While sonic is fast on his feet, Manic in his roller blades could give him a run for his money. His quills are always a mess because of his helmet but he doesn’t seem to mind in the slightest. While usually very laid back, when it comes to art, he has all the energy in the world. His favorite canvases are the tunnels and architeture, as well as some of robotnik’s badniks.
His favorite things are skating, graffiti art, music, pizza and pulling pranks.

Cherri Cola is a poet. Mad Gear is a musician. Got any headcanons about other artists in the zones?
Well, depends. I ain't exactly got hcs about other canon artists in the zones 'coz we know near to nothing about them, but i got artsy hcs for some of the canon characters:
Poison writes poetry, Kobra's good at abstract art and graffitti(as long as the subject isn't people), Ghoul likes to turn scrap pieces of metal that are too small or wierdly shaped to be used into tiny sculptures and Jet really loves photography
Cherri and Poison like exchanging poems and just generally talking about writing whenever they can, which isn't often, much to their dismayal
While not being the most artistic, Ghoul absolutely loves going out with Kobra and doing graffitti. Seeing his messy scribbles and scrawled messages next to Kobra's colorful murals just make him very happy
Jet's got an old polaroid camera that still kinda works(though it's really a pain sometimes) and likes taking photos with it on important occasions or when going out because he can't sleep. No matter how late at night or early in the morning he's never alone, at least one of the others being up and tagging along
Pony loves dancing and if they had the resources they'd be a killer tailor, given that they've modified pretty much their entire wardrobe already
This is much less about the killjoys being artsy, but Newsie and Chimp have a makeshift recording studio where other people can record songs, get them mastered and taped
The girl genuinely enjoys decorating stuff and making bracelets from beads or just braiding a bunch of strings together. She always has a lot of fun whenever she gets to scrapbook with Jet

Steve Rogers is canonically an artist.
Can you imagine the amazing political cartoons that man could put out while on the run as Nomad?
Wouldn’t it be hilarious if Old Steve in that other timeline where he married Peggy made his living by illustrating comedic retellings of Avengers adventures for newspaper comics pages?
Graffitti during the post-Civil War and Pre-Infinity period that’s Anti-Accords and encouraging rebellion and revolution against Iron Man’s stance and the UN’s decisions?
Steve in disguise so he’s not mobbed by people recognizing Captain America between films, sitting in public parks, drawing caracatures of tourists, or taking some down time to sketch out some really nice trees and fountains or something?
Old Steve unable to intervene in events going on in the world, so he instead focuses on designing and illustrating Get Well Soon cards and cards to give condolences because he can’t stop thinking of all the casualties in NYC after Loki’s failed invasion.
Pre-Serum Steve trying to sell his cartoons and art to newspapers and magazines only to be turned down time and time again until one day, he comes home with something he didn’t have to get on ration to split with Bucky because finally FINALLY someone bought one of his illustrations for some filler news article. They argue over who gets to eat the last of it. Bucky insists Steve’s earned it so it’s his. Steve insists he couldn’t have done it without Bucky convincing him not to give up on his dreams the week before.
Steve sitting down during those 13 days after the Battle for Earth, and drawing the most detailed full bodied portrait of Tony he can. Nice and large. And it’s Tony in his armor, at what Steve considers the man’s absolute best. He’s taken some liberties, of course. What artist doesn’t? He doesn’t sleep. He doesn’t stop until it’s finished. And he paints it. By the time it’s finally done, he has it framed and wrapped up, then given to Happy with a card, addressed to Morgan, with instructions to make sure she gets it for her next birthday, giving the excuse of “I’d keep it at my place ‘till then but right now I’m living out of a shoebox until the compound gets rebuilt... If it ever gets rebuilt.” And even the birthday card that goes with it is hand drawn and made specifically for that wonderful little girl.
Or, alternatively, can you imagine the lewd fanart that might be floating around the MCU because Steve got bored but didnt’ want to attach his real name to it, and Sam thought it would be fucking hilarious... until one pops up on a google search of himself and then it’s not so funny anymore. And of course Nat finds out and is like “okay so why did you draw my breasts so weird? I know you took life drawing classes. Just because you’re old isn’t an excuse, Steve.”

5 Creative Manipulation Images From Different Artists.
25th January 2021
Elizabeth Lee Miller - Dead Nazi Soilder
Elizabeth Lee Miller/ Lady Penrose was an American photojournalist of World War II, she was also a fashion model in New York City during the 1920s, she then located to paris where she then became a fine art photographer.
During the war she was a correspondant for Vogue, she covered on events such as the London Blitz, the Battle of Paris and the Conscentration Camps in Buchenwald and Dachau.
What i like most about this image is the effect the ripples have on the soiler face as he is floating in the water it makes the photograph look almost like a surrealist painting.

Kyle Thompson - Burning Head/Self Portrait
Kyle Thompson is a American self portrait photographer from Chicago, Illnios. He is best known for photographic work in conceptual surrealism photography and self portraiture
I like this image because of how it has been digitally manipulated to make it look like the blanket tied to the head is on fire, i think it communicates the themes of anxiety, depression, mental torture and that the world is a dark and cold place.

Man Ray - Half Beard/Self Portrait
Man Ray was an American surrealist photographer who spent the majority of his photographic career living in Paris, he was also a photographer who was part of the Dada movement as well as the Surrealism movement. He also worked with a verity of media but he mostly considered himself as a painter.
His photography work was mostly Fashion and Portrature based, he was also known for his work with Photograms which he called “Rayographs” which was a reference to himself.
I chose this image because it looks like we could be seeing two different sides to Man Ray which could be both light and dark i think that his bearded side makes him look more sinister.
It communicates themes of light, dark, good and evil.

Dora Maar - Self Portrait
Henriette Theodora Markovitch aka Dora Maar was a french photographer, painter and poet, Dora Marr was the subject for many paintings by Pablo Picasso she was also a romantic intrest for Picasso.

Her paintings remained unrecognised up untill the late 1990s when they were put up for sale
This is a self portrait taken by Man Ray in 1936 i think it explores the themes of beauty and inner self.

This is double exposed self portrait by Dora Maar in 1936. The double exposue makes the photograph itself look very much like a surealism painting.

Brassai - Graffiti
Brassai was a french born hungarian photographer, sculptor, medalist, writer and filmmaker. He was one of the hungarian artists whose carrer developed in paris during the time between world wars I and II.
This is a photograph taken from Brassai’s Graffitti series which were taken between the 1930s and 1960s.
This image is of a face carved onto the branch of a tree like the simplicity of this image and the lighting, the carvings were not created by Brassai, they were objects/carvings which he came across and there were many graffiti carvings on walls and trees, he would often seperate one singular carving and photograph it up close, emphasising its detail by photographing each individual carving up close this allowed him to make them appear more abstract.

January Challenge at my patreon!
I was so obsessed with the Into the Spiderverse movie I couldn't help but make it the subject of the first art challenge of the year!!! ♥ So I tried out different coloring techniques while making some fan art!!!
Peter B. Parker: The original Spiderman, drawn in a style inspired by Marvel comics itselves. (I'm always crushing on every Peter Parket version I see, but this mess of a middle-age Peter has me crushing SO HARD right now...!)
Gwen Stacy: AKA SpiderGwen, with a style inspired in fashion design! She's got a skinny body, a cool style, and some feminine elegance that made me think it'd suit her well! So a brush-like lineart plus simple, watercolor inspired coloring, and voilà! ♥
Miles Morales: Out dear protagonist! This one was full on style experimentation, trying out a messier style, kind of inspired by ElixiaDraws way of drawing afro hair and getting some influence by graffitti itself... do you think it works for him?
Peni Parker: Our mecha-pilot spidergirl! You must know by now I loved THE MOVIE, but... I couldn't help but fele that they didn't know how to draw anime so I wanted to give her the full anime look, with a heart-shaped ahoge and all!
Peter (Noir) Parker: The black and white Spiderman, who I think looked PERFECT in the movie, so I just went on and tried something simple for him: 3 tones, cell shading, and a hiiiiiiiiiint of gradation here and there, and there he is!
SpiderHam: AKA Peter Porker... which made me realize I can't draw pigs to save my life! >< Made with vectors! YES EVERYONE, I CAN DO VECTOR ART (kind of)!!!
Also, a close up to Mile's textures because YOU NEED TO APPRECIATE IT IT WAS SO HARD TO DO OMG

In the Stacks with Lara Mimosa Montes: Wild Style
A few years ago, I attended a screening of Charlie Ahearn’s hip-hop film Wild Style (1983) as part of the Walker Art Center’s Downtown New York: 1970s and 1980s Art and Film series. The film, “a hybrid of a narrative musical and documentary,” follows Zoro, played by graffiti legend Lee Quinones, as he weaves his way through the various hip hop, break dancing, and Bronx DJ scenes in early 1980s New York.
Wild Style captures some of the funky tensions of the time period. For instance, if you were a “successful” graffiti artist in the 1980s, you were, like your peers, probably working your ass off to get your name out there, but not necessarily your face because anonymity back then was definitely an asset. However, if you worked hard and were good at what you did, then you were also probably a hot commodity, sought after by the vultures of the art world, journalists, toys fucking with your shit, the cops, and the MTA. My favorite scene in the film is when Zoro and his friends arrive at a party in Manhattan populated by rich art patrons and the like; one character, Neil, says he runs a museum called “the Whitley” while Blondie’s Rapture is playing in the background; another guy in a suit misunderstands rap music as “rat” and asks Zoro if he works in the dark, how can he see what he’s painting? While this scene is more fiction than documentary, I love the way it posits everyone as a potential insider or outsider, depending on who wants what from whom in any given exchange.
Wild Style, directed by John Ahearn, 1983. Japanese chirashi movie mini poster, 2015. Wild Style mural by ZEPHYR, Revolt, and Sharp.
Following the Q and A with Ahearn that night, I got the impression that there were still a lot of positive feelings and happy memories surrounding the project. The affective glow that emanated from the collective viewing and discussion of the film, coupled with a revived general interest in that particular cultural moment (ie. the short-lived Netflix original flop of a show The Get Down), stayed with me. I mean, to what extent is wildstyle —the term given to describe a particularly complex and difficult to decipher style of graffiti writing—part of my inheritance, my culture, its art history? Given graffiti’s ephemeral nature, I felt intrigued by the possibility of researching this form in its early years from the 1970s-80s. What I came to know and appreciate was, yes, the many works given to us by a generation of gifted writers, but also the work done by artists like Charlie Ahearn, Martha Cooper, Henry Chalfant, Martin Wong, among others. Without them, I’m not sure how we would remember those early days of the graffiti movement. So, for those wishing to go a little deeper down the rabbit hole, below is a brief survey of some of the landmark texts that document this vibrant period in Bronx history; it is by no means comprehensive—these just happen to be some of my current personal favorites . . .
Subway Art by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant, featuring Dondi, first published in 1984.
“The bible of the street-art movement,” Subway Art was the first published book of its kind to document graffitti. Featuring full-color photographs by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant, the book contains many masterpieces by artists such as Blade, Lee, Seen, and more. A beautiful print collaboration between the two foremost photographers of the movement, you can really appreciate Cooper’s and Chalfant’s distinct approaches to shooting the trains. Also, if you’re as excited as I am for Chalfant’s upcoming exhibition at the Bronx Museum, Henry Chalfant: Art vs. Transit, 1977-1987 which opens later this year, now is as good a time as any to revisit this seminal work.
Style Wars, graffiti by NOC 167,1981. Photo by Martha Cooper.
Style Wars, directed by Tony Silver and co-produced by Silver and photographer Henry Chalfant, released in 1983, is a classic—the documentary features many a baby-faced graffiti artist such as Dondi, Skeme, Kase 2, interviews with MTA officials, Mayor Ed Koch, various masterpieces, and more. If you want to know what these young writers were up against in terms of public opinion and the MTA, definitely start here. Plus . . . Skeme’s mom: God bless her, wow.
City as Canvas: New York City Graffiti from the Martin Wong Collection, edited by Sean Corcoran and Carlo McCormick, New York: Skira Rizzoli, 2013.
I had no idea that the artist Martin Wong was a known collector of graffiti art until I had come across this book, published in tandem with the Museum of the City of New York’s exhibition City as Canvas, and yes, I am very sorry I had not seen this show back in 2014 before I left New York. For those skeptical of graffiti’s transition from subway to canvas, this book really made me rethink my assumption that graffiti is graffiti because it lives on in the streets and on the trains but never in a gallery. In addition to color images of works on canvas, archival exhibition shots, and some recollections contextualizing Wong’s relationship to the graffiti community by artists Lee, Daze, and Charlie Ahearn, also featured are images of drawings from various artists’ blackbooks: gold.
Tag Town: The Evolution of New York Graffiti Writing by Martha Cooper, Poland: Dokument Press, 2007.
Before there was wildstyle, there was tagging. Some cool shots of tags by Taki 168, Julio 204, Barbara 62, and even Basquiat, among others. Another great monograph by Martha Cooper, who in an interview said, “I shot tags because I wanted a record of them. . . mostly I just wanted to study what they looked like and to allow others to study them in the future. I was using my camera as a very efficient tool to make a record of something that would otherwise be lost.”
Classic Hits: New York’s Pioneering Subway Graffiti Writers by Alan Fleisher & Paul Iovino, Poland: Dokument Press, 2012.
Classic Hits features photographs by Alan Fleisher, Robert Browning, and Jack Stewart. Filled with an assortment of early masterpieces by writers such as Stay High 149, Blade, Super Kool 223, and others, alongside artists’ recollections. I like this book because it showcases an earlier generation of graffiti writers from the 1970s before things really got wild. Similar to Cooper’s Tag Town, I was able to gather from this one a more expanded appreciation for the evolution of the form.
Dondi White Style Master General: The Life of Graffiti Artist Dondi White, by Andrew “ZEPHYR” Witten and Michael White, New York: HarperCollins, 2001.
OK, so graffiti legend Dondi wasn’t born in the Bronx—he was definitely a Brooklyn writer. Nevertheless, his influence on the larger writing community was so profound, his relevance cannot be understated—it went to the Bronx and beyond. Includes black-and-white and color photographs, early sketches, never before seen collage works as well as works on canvas, and reminiscences by the artist’s friends. Unlike some of the other texts on this list, this one is unique insofar as it’s a book assembled by another well-known graffiti artist, ZEPHYR, alongside Dondi’s brother, Michael, so the insights and anecdotes presented here, especially those from Dondi’s closest friends, really provide a window onto the world of the artist. RIP Dondi, you gave us so much.
