[Image description: A digital drawing based on the film They Shoot Horses, Don't They?. In the centre, there's a disco ball, with light blue and grey highlights and also red squares. It is not completely rendered, with the desaturated marigold yellow of the background visible behind it, albeit surrounded by a grey aura. Surrounding this ball, although mostly above it and tapering off as it goes downward, there is a mass of elements from the film. It is chiefly comprised of hands, arms, legs and feet. They are either tightly worn together - such as the hands which grasp tight to themselves or others - or they hang limply, such as the legs at the bottom of the mass which are crowded by the least amount of details. These legs hang weightlessly. There's also close-ups of faces and eyes, although the expressions have no clear logic or connection. This mass is drawn with thin, grey lines. It is indiscernable where certain elements end and the others begin. The bottom left corner of the piece is left empty of these drawings, with only a small red box that has the number "67" in it, the text in a light grey.]

Marcus: Was he demonstrating the madness of passion? But the lines are clean. Perhaps the purity of eternity? No, the circles are too twisted for that... or was he just representing a primitive state of being? Hofmann: I don't understand any of that. So this must be art.

Insomnia is letting up off and on, but I'm still super jelly brained from it case in point, I want to continue back with posting WIPs for the aired pages, but I can't remember what page I left off on now lmao (guess I'll have to dig through my blog to check... eesh. at least it's decently organized by tags?) Not a result of goo brain, really, but equally "AUGH" is that I let my screen protector go for too long without replacing it and now it's slick as snot and I don't have a replacement handy to put on it. This isn't a resulting consequence of goo brain but it does mean I'm going to be trying to draw without any traction while I'm already loopy. Good times ahead!

#shut up pu#I"ve had problems with insomnia my whole life so I'm sadly used to this#it comes and it goes#and right now it's in the middle of a big angry come#what do you mean that wording is atrocious??#it gets the point across#ordered a new screen for the draw slab so I've at least been proactive in fixing the problem#the only other problem is I hate drawing on brand new fresh screens too lol bad finger feel#only the middle screen is good for both fingies and pens#anyway the parts of chapter 3 I really love are coming up over the horizon#part of me does wish I would have tweaked the pacing of chapter 3 a little when realizing the usual posting schedule wasn't going to work#after real life delays all butted into production time bc chapter 3 was still paced for the 2 - 3 pages a week schedule#reading it all at once it still carries that pacing but I do feel a bit bad about the way it has felt at once a week#very occasionally twice lol#but I'm just a stickler for pacing so it bothers me personally probably more than it bothers literally anyone#knowing what it's meant to feel like on the proper release schedule vs. the slower release schedule is largely my own problem#and I'm feeling that extra hard right now because I'm having to do prep work for designing and asseting a new set#which saves a huge amount of time in the long run but slows things down in the immediate now#aka: I want to draw characters and story wahhh why am I making set pieces#also hey where the fuck's that stupid fox at he's even in the story synopsis write up where is he#get in the story proper you piece of shit#hello I am sleep deprived and rambling about comic production how are you doing

*watches movie called Mortal Engines* Oh, this movie is really cool, but it feels limited by the medium, I should read the book.
*sees cool 2nd hand clothing item branded from when Hot Topic was doing a Mortal Instruments promotion* Oh, sick, lemme get that, I'll buy the book and rent the movie again later.
*buys book* Hmm, why does the plot sound so different from the movie?
*rents movie again* Hmm, why does this not sound like the book synopsis?
*sees them next to each other*
Wait a second.

Finally got ahold of the audiobook of Penance by Eliza Clark and I have mixed emotions about it. On one hand I love the premise and I feel like it's written well enough to where I feel like the author isn't going to clumsily stumble through her own story and fall on her face at the end like the majority of popular thrillers. But also this story suffers from having someone who hasn't been in school for a long time attempting to write teenagers. The funny thing is that whenever I see a horrible portrayal of teenagers, specifically of zoomers its never like, inaccurate portrayals of slang and trends that most teenagers cringe at, it's extremely unnatural dialogue that I don't understand how even a 30 or 40 year old can't see how awkward and cringe and flat out bad of a portrayal they're doing. You can claim that it's regional differences, even if we were all teenagers once I still don't know what it's like to be a popular mean British girl, but I'm fairly certain that actual popular mean British girls don't go around describing themselves as popular mean girls. The funny thing is that they've mentioned several times that these girls (ok it was actually like one girl but she introduced too many characters and I got confused so I can't even remember the name of the girl who said it) are trying to imitate the mean girls in popular American shows/movies. But I think that it's SO funny how instead of going for the obvious Regina George or maybe the more posh Blair Waldorf, they chose Sharpay Evans....I'm very familiar with the popular mean girl trope because I always love the girls who fall into this category and I can say with 100% certainty that none of these girls act like this either. I don't know what the author is going for but it's very painful to listen to.
#the pyre#Technically I'm not reading it I mean I just got myself a copy of the ebook bc I'm so lost which is why I don't know simple things like#the names of the girls I think I'm prob only around 100 or so pages into the book so I was planning on reading that before bed#so I can understand it better#but I'm so heartbroken bc something they're mentioned a few times that def gonna play a large role later#is that the girls all followed this makeshift religion which fit in perfectly with their culty friendgroup#but as of rn I feel the same disappointment I felt when I read bunny and the popular girls doing witchcraft#were so childish and annoying that even I couldn't like them#also I sorta forgot the premise of this book so i looked up the synopsis on GoodReads and the author sounded familiar so#I clicked through her profile and she wrote boy parts and since this book has been following me around I finally decided to get a copy#and read it after I finish penance only for the narrator of the story to briefly talk about some cases he'd researched and among them#he listed a female predator who preyed on little boys and idk the premise of boy parts but I'm p sure that was the author referencing it#and since I like to go into books as blindly as possible I don't appreciate the author spoiling me for a book I haven't even read yet#also I wonder if this is one of those things where an authors books all take place in the same universe even if they don't follow the same#characters that would be cool if true but I hope the narrator of this book doesn't appear in boy parts he's kind of a goober

tonight we watched episodes 5 and 6: she has changed her tune on silver, instead repeatedly saying "he is such a character" from various angles whenever he is on screen. loves how fake he behaves and the fact that there's nothing behind it but the ability to be really good at being fake. INCREDIBLY busted up over billy but also said 'you wouldn't talk about how much you love these episodes if he had actually died' . prescient of her. for the first time i noticed a part of the bryson/guthrie betrayal that i never had before, which makes mr scott's presence in the hold make more sense. ella very stymied and upset over scott's tangled web of loyalties, and all i could tell her was that he has more interests on the islands than eleanor and that all would become clear in time. watching this time i thought about his cold-blooded arithmetic in refusing so many times to help emi and the other captives, weighing the lessened chance of his family's discovery against his potentially lifelong enslavement. and then helping her anyway because she reminds him, probably, too much of his daughter.

Thomas Penn writes about 500 year old dead historical figures like they're celebrities in a gossip column
#it's funny to an extent but after a point it gets very grating#he has a wealth of information but he's far too sensationalistic and florid#and tends to choose the most unsympathetic and/or colorful interpretation of every situation and historical figure#he also has a habit of ... narrativizing history which doesn't really work for me#also his fatphobia re Edward IV was absolutely revolting#I was planning on ordering the Winter King but after looking at the synopsis and first 2 chapters that were available online - no thanks#I'm definitely not interested in reading about Henry VII supposedly being 'sinister' and 'Machiavellian' because he...ruled successfully?#because he did what kings (unfortunately) did all the time? How was he any different from the others?#also imagine calling *Henry VII* ruthless & unscrupulous when his predecessor murdered his own kid-nephews and his successor was Henry VIII#like please be serious#I had the same issue with the way he described Edward IV's reign. His descriptions were so theatrical and emphatic but#at the end of the day the things he was describing were very normal lol#or they would be normal if Penn didn't choose the most critical (and mocking tbh) perspective for every single thing#the way he described Henry VI's reign was also annoying but it thankfully had far less pagetime and was not the focus of his work#so it was comparatively more tolerable#i'm glad that he acknowledged the propaganda against Margaret tho. I didn't like how he described her but at the very least he acknowledged#that she was being slandered#also calling Warwick 'the regime's biggest headache' lmfao#and ig some of his analyses on Richard III were interesting. It helps that R3 had a very short and very dramatic reign from start to finish#so Penn's flourishing tone doesn't really feel out of place for it

What side of the bed did AWTR Lexa sleep on? Does Clarke sleep on that side after her death because she doesn't want anyone else occupying Lexa's spot?
Lexa always slept on the left side of the bed.
"That way mom could sneak out without waking me up after I fell asleep during my bedtime story," was how Lexa had explained it the first night they laid spent, naked, and tangled in Lexa's bed.
They'd spent the entire evening wrapped around each other, wringing out a half dozen orgasms a piece in the quiet of her room, moans smothered by the shushing kiss of hungry lips.
She'd looked so happy relaying the story when Clarke had asked which side she should sleep on because she was so damn close to passing out from pleasurable exhaustion. Her fingers had combed the sweaty curls of Clarke's hair, not a speck of sadness on her face as she'd talked about her mother and how'd she'd always found sneaky ways around her daughter being such a light sleeper. It was just a sweet memory for Lexa in that moment, something that'd stuck with her throughout her lifetime. The unspoken rule that Lexa's side would always be the left side because her mother sat on the right and read her bedtime stories when she was a little girl.
The first night Clarke sleeps alone in their bed after Lexa passes... she can't really make herself fall asleep at all. She finds herself just laying there, staring at the unused pillow in the lamplight.
Gus had changed the sheets the day before when she'd been gone doing the final planning for the funeral.
Her pillow doesn't even have any little wisps of that beautiful hair anymore.
She just stares.
It's not until the next day that she can finally drift off to sleep. Lexa's sweater tucked to her chest, eyes heavy and burning with dried up tears. She certainly starts out on her side of the bed, very careful to not cross that dividing line between the two, but when she wakes up, she's got a nose full of the scent of Lexa's shampoo.
At some point in her sleep, she'd scooted over the entire expanse of the bed. Had traded the sweater for the pillow, apparently. She wakes to find herself clinging to it like a lifeline, legs half dangling off the left side of the mattress, as though she'd kept scootching and shuffling and twisting in search of that familiar warmth that should be there...
That becomes the norm for years. In all the years after, she doesn't really share a bed overnight with anyone else. On the few and far between instances when she does, she makes sure to just so happen to land on the left side of the stranger's bed. It's not until she meets her partner and they make the decision to make this thing between them An Actual Thing that Clarke makes the final decision, the one that'll be true for however long they may be together, that the left side will now be her spot as well.
Because the left is still Lexa's side. Has always been Lexa's side, and no one is going to take that space from her. She's just sharing it.
Because the only thing worse than reaching out and not feeling her wife, is feeling someone else on her side instead...

the eternal struggle of reading webcomics/manga/manh(w/u)a that i think are really good but have cringe ass titles so i can't recommend them without someone doubting my sensibilities and taste in stories
#not that my tastes are *that* good...#or do people ask me for good comics often enough for this to be a real problem#or.. people talking to me at all for this conversation to come up...#anyway please ask for some comics to read. i need someone to join me in my warrior's path#of reading things but never finishing them because either they aren't done being#written and/or translated yet..#or whatever the word for when adhd says i can't read any more because the story is *too* good and so i get paralysis trying to keep reading#to anyone curious-#i just caught up with sss-class revival hunter#and was reminded how much of a sucker i am for romance... ;_:#GUH i can't gush in the tags here... there's already too many tags#but it's soo good#here's my recommend of it for those reading the tags:#really good starting plot- read a synopsis for that i'm bad at that#there's a little dip in attention keeping between the end of the introduction phase and when he starts floor 10#but if you get past that little dip it's all up hill from there#ough i'm still thinking about it.#IT'S NOT A ROMANCE BTW. the most recent plot is romance but that's not the overarching thing#at least for what's out. idk how much what happened is going to effect the rest of the story#ok ok i need to stop talking about it because i'm getting too riled up and overpowering the melatonin i took. don't want to break my sleep#schedule over this#key's lockbox#rambling in tags#btw i don't have shame in the stuff i read regardless of their bad titles#i just wanted to use this premise to get my words out about enjoying my latest read

did it y'all, I finally managed to spend hours reading again, it feels so GOOD
I went to this second hand SciFi/fantasy/horror bookstore near my parents place and spent ages talking with the guy there, he gave me lots of specific recommendations (impressive bc when he asked me what I've enjoyed in fantasy all I could think of to say was 'i like biomes....... and suffering' NO EXAGGERATION that's all I said and he was like yep cool here's 3 series that are all biomes and suffering) (oh and when I picked up a book he was like 'oh that's cozy fantasy. very popular. probably not for you, no suffering' and he was so right about that)
I did have some pretty bad overwhelm and relapsed but whatever it's chill cause afterwards I picked up my book and read for hours and I feel sooooo much better thank u ms robin hobb my beloved
