socialite! (secret himbo/bimbo) reader who takes one look at bruce wayne in a gala and you decide you'll use your (dumbass) alluring charms on the man to spend a night with him and it ends up successful. you had the best bed-breaking sex in your life, never once questioning all the taut muscle underneath his polished thousand-dollar suit; now crumpled by how handsy you were taking off his clothes. he was great with aftercare, too, carrying you off to one of his luxury bathtubs to bathe you and leave even more marks on the expanse of your back whilst massaging your naked body (you didn't even think for a second at the romantic implications his actions had).
then you're at one of luthor's galas the next time, being interviewed by this cute man with eyeglasses, who calls himself clark kent, with the cutest country-boy accent, who looks too tall to act all lanky, but you're not one to judge. you take one look at his baggy suit, ignore the pen and paper in his hands and drag him off to one of the spare janitorial rooms to have, quite possibly, the most pleasurable quickie you've ever had spent inside a cramped closet, your sweat sliding off each other as your bodies move in a harmonious tandem. you give him a kiss on his collar right after the momentary sex, and giggle at the skittish blush dispersing on his face, as if he didn't just give you a reason to go home early due to the limp on your step.
after everything, they were buried in the back of your mind. they were great fucks, yes, you never had a moment of horny zenith not until you met them, yes; but your relationship (if you could even call it that) with both men were purely sexual and a one-time thing. you never really thought of them, you prioritize your social life and reputation above all else, not your coster of other rich people you've slept with.
but one day, you see both in the same room as you in another gala. you're oblivious to the sets of eyes hungrily taking you in, or how quickly they shove off other people just to move closer the moment their attention land on you. you take a look at the two men, biting your lips whilst your eyes devour the memory of their muscled pecs squished between your index and middle finger, and their thick thighs pistoning you back and forth, all hidden under all the clothes covering their body; and whisper not-so silently:
"i can take them both, not in a fight."
sadly, you'll never know that they're both at each other's throats after hearing your confession, ready to take each other in a fight if it meant having you in their arms once more. you'll never know just how bruce managed to throw in a microchip in your bag before you're escorted home by his limousine, or how clark watched your sleeping body in your apartment as superman just to make sure you slept well after he pounded you to oblivion in that closet.
all you'll know is that you're going to score them into fucking you once more either way. after all, if they're both the best choices when it comes to pinning you down and going crazy on your body, then you'll do anything to achieve that aching goal with the both of best worlds.
you're unaware that they'd do the same thing for you, though. but it's not out of the intentions to merely sleep with you, no. they're also planning to find a pathway into your heart while at it.
so... welp, guess that's just an added list of all the other suitors you had fighting over the chance of having another night with you.
a/n: gender-neutral reader. no bodily gender mentioned at all. this is purely sexual content with some plot. i blame my irl best friend for this (the single dialogue was me thirsting over the characters through our chats). yes, i post this after posting angst. am i shameless? also yes.

coming up roses
pairing: bang chan x female reader
summary: most of the time, you're grateful to have such a good relationship with your older brother, minho. but when you find yourself falling for his best friend, chan, you can't help but be worried how he'll react when he finds out. you soon find yourself struggling with the unexpected consequences of keeping your feelings a secret.
word count: 10.2k
tags/warnings: hanahaki!au (read a/n), brother's best friend!au, hurt/comfort, angst, lots of fluffy sibling dynamics between minho and y/n, bad communication by the reader, mentions of: coughing, blood, and vomiting
read it on ao3 | masterlist
a/n: i have finally written my hanahaki au!!! this took me ages, but i really really wanted to write a fic based on how this post describes hanahaki because i love this interpretation (hanahaki is from supressing feelings instead of unrequited love) a lot more than how it's usually written (not that that version is bad!). i actually wish i could have drawn this out more, but didn't have it in me haha
the phrase "it's all coming up roses" means that everything is going well with someone and i thought it was so perfectly ironic for a hanahaki fic where a character actually has roses coming up in the literal sense.
Minho has always been protective. You had felt cool and invincible as a child, having an older brother that was willing to have your back and scare away anybody that teased you.Â
Youâre grateful that he cares enough to be so involved in your life, but now that youâre in university, you canât help but feel a little stifled. Minho takes his role as an older brother very seriously, especially since the two of you have moved out of your family home and are sharing an apartment closer to campus. It's a mixture of doting and enough teasing to drive you crazy.
Growing up, your family home had been the regular haunt of Minho and his friends. It was more common than not to get home from cram school and find the boys either lingering in the nearest convenience store or hanging out in your apartment. You wouldn't say that you were friends with the boys, but you were at least familiar enough that you would say hi to them if you saw them in the hallways and they would offer to walk home with you if you were ever leaving school at the same time.
Starting university had been hard for you, most of your friends had ended up moving to other cities or even going abroad. You, however, had decided to stick closer to home. Your program had a good reputation and your parents had promised that they would help you and Minho get an apartment close to campus as long as you lived together. Minho had readily agreed, he had commuted for his first year and had always complained about how long it took.
It was a difficult adjustment, moving out of your family home, balancing your course load, and making friends. Unlike Minho, who had used dance to find his close group of friends, you didn't have any hobbies that you were particularly passionate about and you weren't naturally outgoing or charismatic.
Especially in the first few weeks of classes, it feels like such a relief whenever you see one of Minho's friends that you latch onto them. Itâs kind of awkward at first, especially because you donât know his friends well enough to speak with them casually, but they get used to your presence. You would even consider some of them to be your friend, especially Seungmin, who shares a class with you, and Chan who usually has his lunch break at the same time as you.
You make your own friends eventually, slowly getting to know some of the people that share your program, but youâre definitely a lot closer to the boys than you were prior to university. While you spent most of your childhood calling Minho and his friends lame, you can now admit that you enjoy spending time with them, although youâd never say it to Minhoâs face.
Still, Minho doesnât always approve of who or where you hang out. Sometimes heâs even nosier than your parents were, always asking you about your schedule and calling when youâre out late. He warns you about spending time one-on-one with men and makes sure that you always have your location shared with him. You tolerate it for the most part, knowing that itâs his way of showing that he cares about you, but sometimes you just find him overbearing.
â
âIâm going out next Saturday,â Minho tells you one evening as you step out of your room to get a glass of water. âYouâll have to figure out something for dinner on your own.â
âOh,â you say, suddenly a little nervous. âI uh- I also have plans that night.â
âSure,â he agrees easily. âWhat are you going to be doing?â
âThereâs a party that I was invited to,â you say, biting your lip when you see Minho freeze. You turn your gaze to the ground, but you can still feel Minho's stare intensify.Â
âWhat party,â he demands, not even bothering to frame it as a question.
âDoes it matter?â you whine, annoyed by how protective Minho is. Itâs even worse that you have an audience, Chan is over and you can see out of the corner of your eye that heâs watching your conversation curiously.
âYes.â His tone leaves no room for argument.
âI think it's at Taehoon's,â your voice is barely a whisper. Minho hears you anyway.
âTaehoon?â He repeats in disbelief. You glance up briefly. Minho's ears are flushed bright red and the tendons in his neck are standing out. He's furious. âTaehoon, who is four years older than you? Taehoon, who holds off-campus parties?â
You grimace and don't respond. Thereâs no way that heâs going to let you go, you resign yourself to a weekend stuck in your room watching dramas while your friends enjoy themselves.Â
Itâs bad enough that you had to mention Taehoon, who doesnât have the best reputation, but youâve forgotten that Minho would easily be able to recognize the type of party that he throws. You havenât been to many university parties, but even you know that without the dorm restrictions, off-campus parties are often the wildest and were harder to get invited to. Itâs not that you particularly care to attend this party in specific, you just donât want to miss out since all of your friends will be there.
âMinho,â Chan steps in, clasping a heavy hand on your brother's shoulder.
âWho invited you,â Minho seethes, shaking Chan off.
âJust one of my friends,â you deflect.
âMinho,â Chan says again, this time jostling Minho enough that he turns his attention away from you finally. Your body sags in relief. âChill, we're going to Taehoon's next weekend. It's just a party.â
âYes, we are going. Not my baby sister! Y/n-ah, the answer is no.â
âOppa!â you complain. âI'm not a baby anymore!â
âYou don't know anything,â Minho hisses at you.Â
âWe were going to way crazier parties when we were Y/n's age,â Chan interrupts one more time. âCome on, at least we'd be able to keep an eye on her.â
Minho is about to reply when he stops and tilts his head in thought.
âOkay,â he says slowly, turning back to you with a gleam in his eye. âYou can go, Y/n.â
âReally?â you brighten instantly even though youâre a little bit suspicious of his sudden change in heart.
Your breath catches in your throat as you excitedly make eye contact with Chan. He winks at you teasingly before turning his full attention back to Minho, who thankfully hadnât noticed.
âYou're coming with us,â Minho says, nodding decisively.
âAre you kidding me,â you reply flatly, all enthusiasm vanishing instantly.
âYes. I'll make sure that everybody knows not to mess with you and you still can have fun with your silly little friends. Unless you don't want to go anymore?â Minho raises an eyebrow at you.
âFine, I'll go with you,â you grumble.
âIt'll be fun, Y/n! I promise that I wonât let Minho embarrass you,â Chan says, slinging an arm around your shoulder. You try not to shiver as he leans in to whisper to you, close enough that you can almost feel his lips touching your ear. âDonât worry, Iâll make sure to find something or someone to distract him enough that heâll forget youâre even there.â
âOkay,â you breathe shakily.
âHey!â Minho pulls Chan off of you and into a headlock. âWhatever youâre scheming, cut it out. Y/nnie, donât listen to a single thing this idiot tells you.â
âI try not to listen to idiots,â you say. âThatâs why I never follow any of the advice that you give me!â
âY/n-ah-â Minho starts.
You stick out your tongue at him childishly then dart to your room, slamming the door and locking it behind you so that Minho canât follow you. The sound of Chanâs resulting laugh echoes through your head for the rest of the day.
â
By the time the weekend rolls around, you're a little worried that youâve caught a cold. Your throat is achy and talking too much makes you cough, but you're not feeling any other symptoms so you don't think you're actually sick. Minho wasn't exactly pleased when you told him you were still planning on going, but he kept his word and didn't try to convince you otherwise.
Your friends are all getting ready together at one of their dorms, but your brother was adamant that he wanted you to go to the party with him and his friends. You're more comfortable getting changed and doing your makeup at home anyway, so it's not a big deal, but it's still not the same.Â
Conversation pauses when you finally exit your room. Only Chan, Hyunjin, and Minho are still in the living area since most of Minho's friends are crowded around your apartment's entryway, shuffling to get their jackets and put on their shoes.. Their eyes widen and you see Hyunjin choke on the drink he had just taken a sip of. You tug at the hem of your skirt slightly, suddenly feeling self conscious.Â
You've worn this outfit before with friends and while it's definitely not the most conservative option in your closet, it's nowhere near as revealing as what you expect other girls will be wearing. It's just that you're not used to being around Minho's friends when you've put so much effort into your appearance and are showing off a bit of skin. Theyâve seen you at your worst and are most familiar with the comfortable sweats and hoodies that you usually wear around your home.
Minho recovers the fastest. In a flash, he's made his way to you and has a death grip on your arm, trying to drag you back into your room. You resist, digging your heels in to try and make it harder for him, but it barely even slows him down.
âOppa!â
âYou are not leaving looking like this,â Minho huffs through gritted teeth.
âMinho-ya, come on. We're going to be late if you make her change,â Chan calls out. It draws the attention of the rest of the boys, who turn to look at the commotion. You hear Jisung wolf-whistle teasingly which only makes things worse. Minho's hand tightens even more around you, hard enough that you're sure it's going to bruise, and he whips around to glare at Jisung.
âHyung, it's fine. Y/n-ah looks good,â Seungmin chimes in, before winking at you. You groan internally, knowing from the look in his eye that you're not going to like what he says next. âIs there a boy that you're trying to impress tonight?â
âNo!â you deny immediately, still trying to pull your arm from your brother's grip to no avail. Your chest tightens at the idea of being forced to stay at home. Minho immediately latches onto the idea that Seungmin has thrown out, his expression darkening even further.
âIs it true?â he questions you.
âOppa, I promise, I'm just matching with my friends. Which you would know if we actually go to the party!â
âIf there is, you better tell me,â he warns.
âYes, yes,â you groan. âIf there was, which there isn't! You're just wasting time now.â
âAt least put on a jacket, youâre going to be cold.â
âFine.â You wrench your arm out of Minho's grasp and stalk to your room. You grab the first jacket you see, intent on ditching it the second that you get to the party, then head straight to the door, breezing past Minho on your way. âHappy now?â
âThrilled,â he says in a flat voice that says he is anything but.
â
Your apartment is not too far away from the party, so itâs not long before everyone is unloading from their cars and approaching the party. You can hear the bass pounding even from outside the building and youâre sure that there will be a number of neighbours that file noise complaints by the end of the night.
When you make it in, your friends greet you enthusiastically, but are all a little bit weird, fixing their hair more than usual and giggling nervously. Youâre not close with all of the girls that are in the group, some of them you canât even recall if youâve met before, but you can still tell that everyone is acting strangely.Â
It's not until you turn around that you realise that Minho has practically stationed himself behind you and is glowering at anybody who looks your way too long. After years of being on the receiving end of his glares, youâve grown immune, but everybody else is clearly at least a little intimidated.
âOppa,â you hiss. He barely spares you a glance. âYou're not seriously going to babysit me all night, are you?â
âI'm letting you do what you want so you should let me do whatever I want,â he replies primly.Â
You know there's no convincing him on your own. From across the room, you manage to catch Chan's eye and nod your head in Minho's direction. Luckily, he knows exactly what you're trying to say and makes his way over quickly to stand beside Minho.
âMinho-ya, you don't have a drink yet?â he asks, before pointedly taking a sip of his own cup.
âI asked Yongbokkie and Seungmin to make me one,â he replies, unphased.
âAnd you trust them that much?â
At the same time, the two of them glance over to the kitchen. You follow their gaze to find Felix, Seungmin, as well as Jisung mixing together a concoction that looks not only toxic, but also disgusting. You want to gag when you see them add in soju, hot sauce, milk, and maraschino cherries in quick succession. Thatâs not even considering whatever theyâve already put into the cup before you looked over. There's no way they actually think the combination could taste good and Minho must agree because he stands up and starts stalking towards them, swearing to himself the whole time.
After Minho leaves, Chan wanders a bit closer to you and brushes a hand against your shoulder lightly. You have to fight the urge to lean into his touch.
âI told you, I got you tonight. Don't worry about your brother breathing down your neck,â he says lowly. Just like when he first promised to distract your brother, Chan winks at you, then follows after Minho.
You force yourself not to stare after him, cheeks flushing as the rest of the girls squeal. Some of your friends have met Minho in passing a couple times, but not any of his friends. Your brother's dance crew has become wildly popular this year, but luckily it's not widely known that you are close with them. You prefer to keep it that way, but it seems like revealing your relation to them is unavoidable tonight. It's just your luck that some of these girls are among the âfansâ that your brother has somehow amassed.
âY/nnie,â a girl beside you pouts. âHow come you've never mentioned you know Lee Minho and Bang Chan before? I can't believe you've never introduced him to us!â
âI-â you splutter, still flustered by how close Chan was to you.
âI saw you show up with all eight of them,â another girl interupts. Someone else gasps as if you've committed a serious crime. âYou actually know them?â
âWell, yeah-â
âI heard that you called Minho oppa, are you two dating?â the first girl asks.
âWhat? No!â you quickly deny, disgusted by the very thought of that.
âOh come on, you don't think that they're ridiculously attractive?â someone else chimes in. The whole group murmurs in agreement. They have more and more questions for you and start to talk over each other.
âMinho's my brother! As in, we share the same parents, thatâs why I call him oppa.â you exclaim, before things can spiral further. âAnd ew, he is definitely not attractive!â
The group is stunned into silence for a moment before exploding in noise. There are girls offended on Minhoâs behalf, some asking what him and his friends are like, and others who beg you to introduce them.
Your best friend chooses that moment to speak up, reminding you why she is one of your favourite people in the world.
âLetâs play a drinking game!â she exclaims loudly. She holds up a couple bottles of soju that youâre not sure where sheâs been hiding and starts filling up everyoneâs cup. Luckily the girls are easily distracted by alcohol, enough that the topic is changed without too much of a fuss. You breathe out a sigh of relief.
â
After a few drinks, you eventually excuse yourself to the bathroom. Youâre definitely on your way to being tipsy, but not enough that you feel unsteady on your feet. The loud music makes it a bit difficult to focus and people have filled every corner of the house, but youâre somehow able to find an unoccupied bathroom.
You take an extra moment to splash yourself with water before you leave, youâre feeling a bit sticky from sweating and when one of your friends spilled a bit of their drink on you. When you finish, you swing open the door and immediately apologise when you narrowly miss hitting a guy who has been waiting in the hall. He waves it off, but doesnât make a move to enter the bathroom, instead stepping a bit closer to you.Â
âWhatâs a pretty little girl like you doing here all on her own?â he slurs, crowding further into your personal space. Itâs dark, but you can still tell that his eyes are red and unfocused and hair is matted to his forehead. He's drunk.Â
You swallow hard, trying not to panic. You have to treat this situation delicately and somehow make your disinterest clear without provoking or offending him.
âIâm not alone.â You canât help but laugh nervously, taking a step back. Your stomach churns when your shoulder knocks into the wall behind you and you realise you have nowhere else to go. âMy friends are actually probably wondering whatâs taking me so long, Iâll just-â
âSâokay, Iâm sure they wouldnât notice if you were gone a little longer.â He leans in until heâs close enough that you can smell the sourness of his sweat and the alcohol on his breath. âI just wanna get tâknow you a bit better.â
He smiles down at you in a way that he must think is attractive. It makes you want to vomit.
âNo thanks, Iâm just going to head-â Your voice is shrill with panic, you can barely recognize it.
You try to shuffle to the side, but the guy slaps his hand against the wall, trapping you even more. Your heartbeat pounds in your chest. He reaches out and traces one of your cheeks with a clumsy hand, ignoring the way that you cringe away.
âAww câmon darling, donât be like that. I can promise you a good time.â
You know a bit of self defense, but this is far from a fair fight. This guy is significantly taller than you and probably double your weight. Even drunk, he can likely overpower you without even trying.
Before you can make a move, an arm slings around the drunk guyâs shoulder, jostling him to the side. Your heart sinks. There was a small chance that youâd have been able to escape, but not if youâre outnumbered.
âHey mate,â the new person says. Your head shoots up at the familiar voice. Chan. âYou seem pretty sloshed.â
Chan nudges the guy again, this time creating a little space that makes you feel less trapped. His body language is loose and relaxed, but the expression on his face is another story. His gaze is intense as he scans you, softening by a fraction when you nod that youâre fine.
âMânot,â the guy argues. He squints up at Chan. âDo I even know you? Get lost, Iâm busy right now.â
âWhy donât you go outside and get some air? Itâs gotten pretty stuffy in here.â Itâs not a suggestion. Chanâs words are friendly, but the tone of his voice sends shivers down your spine.
The guy opens his mouth, likely to protest, but promptly shuts it when he sees the look on Chanâs face. The two of you watch as he stumbles away without a fight, bumping into a few other people in his haste to leave. Now that youâre alone, Chan backs up, giving you more space to breathe.
âSorry about that,â Chan says, hand scratching at the back of his neck nervously. âDidn't want to be too aggressive. It just- you looked like you needed some help.â
âSome people just donât know how to take no for an answer,â you say quietly. Itâs just another thing to be grateful for when Chan doesnât comment on the shakiness of your voice. Instead, his expression darkens further before he composes himself.
âAre you okay?â he asks tentatively.Â
âYeah, you came at just the right time.â You look away, a bit embarrassed that he had to step in and rescue you, but he puts a finger under your chin and uses it to turn your face back to him. It feels so different from when the drunk guy touched you that you donât want him to stop. His eyes search yours for a moment and whatever he finds must satisfy him.
âYou should probably rejoin your friends.â Chan starts to step away, but you reach out and snag his sleeve before he can go.Â
âChan-oppa.â
He pauses, turning back to look at you again.
âYeah?â Thereâs a hopeful lilt to his voice, although youâre not sure what heâs hoping you say.
âPlease donât tell my brother about this,â you plead. Chanâs expression drops a little, clearly thatâs not what he wanted to hear, but heâs still quick to reassure you.
âNo, yeah, of course. I wonât say anything.â
âI donât want him to worry about me.â
âOf course,â Chan repeats.
âAnd⌠thank you.â You rise up on your toes and kiss his cheek quickly, then slip away towards where your friends are before you can see what his reaction is.Â
â
It takes a few days for you to recover from the party. You hadnât drunk enough to be hungover, but just remembering your interaction with Chan makes you want to bury yourself in your bed and never leave. Luckily Minho hasn't questioned your change in behaviour much, but you can tell that he's getting sick of your wallowing, even if he doesn't know the reason behind it.Â
âYah, Y/n-ah!â Minho bangs on your door. âWeâre heading out for gukbap in 5 minutes, are you coming?â
He doesnât specify who the âweâ is, you know who to expect. Of course, Chan is included. Itâs easy to make a decision.
âGo without me!â you yell back.
âEh? Open up.â
âJust come in, itâs unlocked.â
You hear the door open and Minho approaches. He prods at your prone form with one of his feet.
âWhatâs up with you? You never say no to gukbap.â
âNothing!â you groan.
âYouâve been acting strange since that stupid party, what are you hiding?â He pokes at you again, this time a bit harder.
âOppa,â you complain, lifting yourself out of your blankets to swat at his foot. âI promise that I have nothing to hide, I just donât feel like hanging out with your friends today.â
âThey havenât done anything, have they?â Minho asks, eyes narrowing in suspicion. âChannie-hyung asked me if you were doing okay.â
âNo! I-â you choke on your spit in your haste to answer, leading to a coughing fit that leaves you with tears gathering in your eyes. You clear your throat roughly then continue. âNo, Chan-oppa and the rest of your friends have all been nice to me.â
âOppa?âÂ
Whoops, you hadnât meant for that to slip out.
âWhat?â you whine. âYouâre the one who forces me to hang out with them all the time! You told me to stop being so formal around them. They kept telling me too, it got really annoying.â
âHmm,â Minho huffs, not quite convinced.
âReally,â you insist. âI just donât want to go out today, I promise.â
âOkay,â Minho says reluctantly before he gets uncharacteristically serious. âBut you know, you're my little sister, you can always come to me if something or someone is bothering you right?â
âI- yeah of course, oppa.â You feel kind of touched, not used to Minho openly showing that he cares about you, even though you know he does. It's enough that your throat feels tight with emotion, but you force yourself to speak through it. âThank you. I always know that I can count on you.â
âI'm the only one allowed to mess with you,â he says sweetly, ruffling your hair so that it sticks up the way he knows you hate. âIf anyone else does, I'll make sure that they regret the day that they were born.â
You try to ignore the guilt that curls in your stomach as you watch Minho leave. You hate hiding things from him, but you're still confused by your own emotions and you're worried by how he'll react. Minho has always been your biggest supporter in everything except for your love life, which he is strictly against no matter how much you try to reason with him.Â
You canât imagine how much worse it would be if he found out that the person youâre interested in is one of his friends. Youâve heard him warn the whole group that you were off limits. Heâd use a joking tone, but everyone knew that he was actually serious about it.
In the end, it doesnât even matter because youâre almost certain that nothing will ever come of your feelings, Chan is way out of your league so thereâs no point in even imagining a relationship together.
â
Unsurprisingly, your attempts to avoid Chan fail pretty much instantly. You're not sure how the stars aligned exactly opposite to what you were hoping, but the studio that Minho's (and therefore Chan's) dance crew uses had a schedule conflict that ended up shifting their practice times.
To your dismay, it works out so that multiple times a week, you're leaving campus at the exact same time as your brother. That in itself is not much of an issue, it's the fact that Chan lives close enough to you that the three of you commute back together. To make matters worse, Minho always invites Chan over to have dinner and Chan always accepts.
You can't fault Minho though, you know that he invites him over partly because he wants to hang out with Chan and partly because he knows that Chan might end up working throughout the night in an empty apartment and completely forget to eat. It does also bring you comfort, knowing that Chan is being cared for, that he's eating well and taking time in his day to not worry about school or dance. It's also nice for you, you've grown so used to preparing and eating dinner on your own that it's started to feel more like a chore than something to look forward to.
It's just hard. You haven't had a private conversation with Chan since the party, but you know that he wants to talk to you.Â
You were so sure that he would never reciprocate your feelings, but now, you're starting to doubt yourself.
While you're on the bus home, listening to your music, you sometimes glance over to find Chan staring at you, though he's quick to look away. When the three of you are cooking in the kitchen, he's more affectionate, resting a light hand on your waist or back when he passes behind you or nudging your shoulder playfully after he makes a joke. During dinner, he makes sure that you're also engaged in conversation, asking about your classes or the few clubs that you're involved in. He sometimes brings you and Minho little treats from the convenience store and they're always in your favourite flavours.
The thing is, Chan is friendly and generous to everyone that he meets. It's hard to tell if you're reading too much into your interactions with him or if he's actually paying you more interest than usual. You've never heard of Chan dating, actually you can't recall if any of the boys in Minho's dance crew have ever had partners, but it's not for a lack of interested parties.
At times, it feels so impossible that you're embarrassed to even admit to yourself how much you like Chan. You're not blind, you know that there's a fair share of girls who are just as delusional as you are, giggling when he looks over and insisting to their friends that he's interested in them because he helped open the door for them or waved as he walked past.
In fact, some of the very moments that you keep closest to your heart sound so similar to experiences that you've heard other girls gushing about that you hate yourself for having hope that Chan would be interested in you of all people.
It's easier to pretend that there's nothing going on between the two of you. You know that if you were to confess your feelings to Chan, something you would never do, that he would be nice about it. You can almost imagine it, how flustered he would be, making up some kind of excuse about not being interested in dating because he was too devoted to school and dance. He would promise not to tell your brother about it and assure you that it wouldn't change the way that he treats you.
You've run through this hypothetical situation so many times that not only have you experienced enough mortification for a lifetime, but you've convinced yourself even further to lock your feelings up inside of you. There's no point in confessing when you're so sure that nothing will ever come from it.
â
One day, Chan is over as usual and the three of you are cooking in your tiny kitchen, elbows bumping and arms reaching over as everyone tries to make do with the small space available.Â
The food is almost ready when Minho's phone rings, the special song that he has saved for Jisung. He picks it up instantly, shoving the pair of chopsticks that he's using into your hands in his haste. You can't hear what Jisung says, but Minho rolls his eyes and leaves to his bedroom, lecturing Jisung about something the whole way there.
âHey,â Chan says softly. You try to keep yourself busy, picking up dishes and putting them into the sink for washing, but he tugs at your wrist lightly so that you face him. âIs everything good with you?â
âYeah,â you say, nodding quickly.Â
âYou just seem, I don't know, distracted or something these days.â
âNo, it's-â You take a deep breath to collect yourself. âThank you for asking, really. But I'm fine.â
âOkay,â Chan says, still looking concerned. âListen, I know we haven't-â
You've never been so glad to hear Minho re-enter the room.Â
âEh? You guys haven't even finished with the food?â he complains in a whiny voice that he only really uses around Chan. âWhat have you guys been doing this whole time? Come on, Y/n-ah, go set the table. Hyung, I know you can't cook to save your life, but at least scoop out the rice into our bowls. I'm hungry!â
Chan drops the subject for the rest of the night, but you know that youâve only delayed the conversation.Â
â
The next day, you wake up to a dry and achy throat. This isnât that unusual, you suffer from seasonal allergies that sometimes block your nose and force you to breathe through your mouth as you sleep. This time, it feels different. Your throat has been bothering you more than usual the past couple of weeks and while drinking a glass of water does help you wake up, it doesnât dull the pain that persists.Â
You shuffle out of bed to wash up, then head straight to the kitchen, brewing yourself a steaming mug of yuja tea. The taste is comforting, but doesn't help as much as you hoped it would.Â
You get ready for school quickly, hoping to leave before Minho wakes up. You know that your classes start before him today, but he's always been an early riser, preferring to work out or spend time in the dance studio before it gets too busy.
âY/n-ah,â Minho calls out, right as you're starting to put on your shoes. âYou were going to leave without saying bye?â
âI didnât know if you were awake,â you say, wincing when your voice still sounds rough.
âYou didnât even check.â Minho steps out of his room and unlocks the front door for you as you pull on your backpack.
âI was in a rush-â you start to say, but the rest of your sentence doesnât manage to make its way out. Clearing your throat only irritates it further, triggering a cough that you canât contain.
âY/n,â Minho says, genuine concern shining in his eyes. âAre you feeling okay?â
He raises a hand to your forehead, but you slap it away weakly before he can check your temperature.
âI'm fine, I just have this stupid sore throat that wonât go away,â you reassure him. âI donât think Iâm sick though. The air has been so dry lately, I think I need a humidifier in my room while I sleep.â
âAww.â Minho pinches your cheek and goes straight back to teasing you. âMy delicate baby sister.â
âUgh, forget I said anything.â You push your brother away. âNow let me go, I'm going to be late for class.â
Minho doesn't say anything in response, but the next night when you go to sleep, a new humidifier has been installed on your bedside table.Â
â
In the next few weeks you find that the discomfort in your throat that has been plaguing you has evolved into something else. Thereâs a persistent feeling of something caught in your throat and you find yourself with a lingering dry cough that no amount of tea or medication can relieve.
One night, you wake up feeling like you can't breathe. In a panic, you untangle yourself from your sheets and get yourself into a sitting position. The change in position allows a deep cough to rattle through you, enough that youâre finally able to suck in a breath.Â
Instead of phlegm or maybe a piece of food that could have been stuck in your throat, you feel something velvety in your mouth. You blindly reach for your bedside table to turn on your lamp and wonder if youâre still asleep when you find a single, dark red rose petal in the palm of your hand.
You squeeze your eyes shut and pinch yourself, hard, but when your eyes open, nothing has changed.
Suddenly, youâre wide awake and a cold sweat starts to form, making your pyjamas stick to your back.
Youâve heard of hanahaki disease, of course you have, but youâve never known someone who has suffered from it.Â
It makes sense, youâve had a sore, scratchy throat and dry cough for weeks now with no other cold symptoms.
You canât believe it though.Â
Hanahaki disease was almost like an urban legend at this point, having been exaggerated and twisted so much in media that youâve almost forgotten the reality of it. While most of the shows and books that cover this have a somewhat romantic take on it, declaring that it's caused by unrequited love, you know the real cause is your refusal to admit your feelings.
You knew that lying, to Chan, to your brother, to yourself, would have consequences. You had heard stories about how people who kept their feelings a secret were slowly choked by them, petals and leaves representing every time you had held yourself back.Â
You just never thought it would happen to you.
Sure, you were interested in Chan. You found him kind, hard-working, funny, and attractive, but it's not like you were in love with him.
You crumple the petal in your hand and throw it into your garbage can. If this is your first time finding petals, you still have months until things progress to be more serious. A part of you hopes that this was some sort of one-off, that this would be the first and last time your body creates any flowers.
You turn off the light and pull the covers tightly over your body, praying that you'll wake up in the morning and find that this was all some crazy stress-related dream.
You donât fall asleep for the rest of the night.
â
You had thought that you were pretty good at covering up your tracks, but it doesnât take long before Minho starts piecing things together. It doesn't help over the past few days, your symptoms have steadily worsened. Youâve found yourself coughing up petals every day, enough that you're starting to grow concerned about how quickly things are progressing.
It starts when he calls you into your shared bathroom one evening. You donât think much of it, until you find him staring at something on the ground.
âWhatâs this?â he asks.Â
âItâs a rose petal,â you say easily, stooping down to pinch it between two fingers and dangle it in front of his face. âYouâve never seen one before?â
Minho rolls his eyes at that, swatting at you half-heartedly. You manage to dodge out of the way, but lose your grip on the petal. It flutters to the floor, but Minho swipes it out of the air.
âWhatâs it from? Is a boy giving you flowers?â he asks warningly, crushing the petal in his grip.
âOppa, stop jumping to conclusions!â you groan. âItâs from a bath bomb that I tried out, I guess I missed this one when I was cleaning up.â
âSince when do you take baths?âÂ
âSince I got a bunch of bath bombs on sale. I thought it would be relaxing.â This time youâre the one rolling your eyes. âBut if I knew that it would lead to you interrogating me, I wouldnât have bothered buying them in the first place.â
âFine, sorry, just- just clean up next time youâre going to make a mess in the bathroom,â Minho says, before throwing the petal at you and leaving you alone.
You watch as the petal falls onto the tiles, crumpled into a little ball from being in Minhoâs fist. When you reach out to pick it up, your fingers are trembling. Youâve never been a good liar, but it seems that at least this time, your acting skills have been good enough to fool Minho.
You hear the front door close and you finally give in to the cough that you've been trying to suppress the whole conversation.Â
Tears spring to your eyes, but you can't stop the coughs that wrack your body. This time, even after you spit out a couple of petals, it still feels like thereâs something stuck in your throat. After what feels like forever, that something dislodges and you find yourself holding a tiny rosebud complete with a short stem.
You stare at it in horror, you havenât had more than petals until now. Thereâs a deep sense of dread that fills you. You thought that youâd have more time, it hasnât even been a month since you had started coughing up anything.
You throw the flower into the toilet, flushing quickly so that the red petals swirl out of sight. Even after you rinse your mouth, thereâs a tinge of iron that lingers.
â
You don't often visit the boys when they're at dance practice, in fact you actively avoid going to the studio. It's one thing to know that their dance crew is quite popular and another to experience it yourself.
But today you don't have much of a choice, in your rush to leave for an early lab, you completely forgot to pack an assignment that was due the same morning and had begged Minho to bring it to campus for you. You were lucky that he hadn't left the apartment yet, but he only brought it on the condition that you brought him coffee and picked your assignment up from him directly.Â
It's just before 10am when you head over, which means that there's a lot of students waiting for their dance class to start, but it still surprises you to find a fairly significant crowd outside of the studio that Minho had texted you to go to. You can hear music faintly from the closed door and, as you push your way closer, find that there's a large horizontal window that has caught everyone's attention.
You get more than a fair share of dirty looks as you squeeze through the crowd and one girl even stops you as you move to open the door.Â
âSorry, excuse me,â you say politely.
âYou're not allowed in,â she says in a haughty voice. Her acrylic nails bite into your arm, surprisingly strong for how thin she is. âTheir practice isn't over.â
âYou're not allowed in, I donât need an invitation,â you say under your breath, rolling your eyes. You must not have said it quietly enough because she gasps dramatically.
âPlease, you think you're special?â She looks you up and down dismissively. âYou wish any of the boys would talk to someone like you.â
âYou must be referring to yourself, they would never want to have to associate with someone as desperate and pathetic as you,â you snap, shouldering your way past her. She squeals, but finally lets go of you, maybe hoping that you'll get in trouble for interrupting.
You open the door just enough to slide through and carefully close it behind you so that you donât disturb them. Itâs mesmerizing, watching them all dance. Theyâve been together for so long that it looks so natural for them to move in sync, although you know itâs more to do with long hours of practice and Minhoâs eagle eyes pointing out any mistakes.Â
None of the boys notice you at first, caught up in the chorus of the song that they're practicing, but Jeongin catches sight of you after a moment.
âNoona!â he says excitedly, abandoning the dance to run over to you. âIs that coffee for me?â
âInnie if you drink that coffee you will not survive long enough for the caffeine to make it into your bloodstream,â your brother warns from across the room.Â
Jeongin falters at that, but when you shake the cup enticingly in front of him, he throws caution to the wind and takes a sip.
âYah! What did I say, Yang Jeongin?â Is the only warning Jeongin gets before heâs chased around the room by an angry Minho. The familiar chaos is almost enough to lift your mood and make you forget about the terrible interaction you had outside.
âYou look annoyed, did something happen?â Chan asks, approaching you from where he had gone to turn off the music on his laptop. You curse how observant he is, you thought you had done a pretty good job of hiding how you felt.
âNothing, just had a weird encounter with a defensive fan out there. It's like you guys are idols or somethingâ you joke, nodding your head towards the window where people are watching curiously. You can still feel the sting from the girlâs nails digging into your wrist and when you lift it up to examine it more closely, see a little bit of blood beading at the deepest crescents.
âTheyâre not fans,â Chan says in disgust, before he does a double take. âI- youâre bleeding?â
âItâs nothing,â you say quickly, wiping at the wounds but only succeeding at smudging the blood so that it looks even worse. âIt doesnât even hurt.â
âCome here, we have a first aid kit somewhere. We donât want it to get infected.âÂ
Chan takes your hand delicately, making sure to avoid the inflamed areas, and leads you over to the bench closest to where all their bags are piled up. You sneak a glance over to the girl that stopped you and canât help but feel smug when you find her, pale and slack-jawed. Chan sits you down, only leaving your side to pull the blinds down on the window and dig around until he finds the first aid kit.
âSorry, it might sting a bit,â Chan apologises as he pulls out the disinfectant wipes.
You peek at Chan and your breath catches in your throat at how concentrated he looks, brows slightly furrowed as he tries to gently dab at the scratches. Most of his hair is hidden under a baseball cap, but you can see a little duck tail forming at the base of his neck which draws attention to the trails of sweat that disappear under the collar of his shirt. You must make some kind of noise, because Chan looks up, eyes wide with concern.
âSorry, does it hurt a lot?â
âNo, you're good,â you say, cheeks flushing.
âIâm almost done,â he says, searching around for a bandage. Heâs just finished applying it, tongue sticking out in concentration, when you hear someone else approach.
âWhat's going on here?â Minho asks.
âNothing!â you say at the same time that Chan says, âI was just helping Y/n put on a bandage.â
âDid you hurt yourself?â Minho's eyes widen and he reaches out to take a look at your wrist, even though he won't be able to see anything under the bandage. You pull your sleeve down and stand up in a rush.
âItâs nothing, really oppa! I'm sorry, I have to go, my class is starting soon!â you call out, lying through your teeth as you run out of the room, clutching your assignment. âThank you, Channie-oppa!â
You rush into the nearest bathroom, not even caring that there are people in the other stalls, and throw up an explosion of petals. By the time that you finally make it to class, just in time, your throat stings more than the wound on your wrist.
â
You start trying to avoid Minho and well, you never really stopped in your attempts to avoid Chan.
You leave early in the morning, only come back well after the sun has set, and do everything in your power to contain your cough when you're at home.
You know you're not solving the problem, only prolonging it, but every conversation, every lie, seems to accelerate the growth of the roses that have taken up residence in your lungs. You know that it's not helping, that keeping this secret is just strengthening the flowers that are slowly choking you. It's just that no matter how many conversations you've rehearsed in your head or text that you've drafted, something seems to stop you.
You're just so so scared that waking up with a mouthful of petals and thorns, bloody coughing fits that you can't prevent, and the raspy tone of your voice that has developed is preferrable.Â
As much as you hate him sometimes, you've looked up to your brother for your whole life. You don't know what you would do without him that the thought of losing him terrifies you beyond belief.
You don't always get what you want, though. It's not long until Minho confronts you again.
It's not really a surprise, when you look in the mirror these days, you're shocked by your appearance. Your face is pale and drawn, you have deep bags from not being able to sleep at night, and you've lost weight since most solid food irritates your throat enough to trigger a coughing fit. Add that to the fact that you know your apartment's walls are paper thin which means it's impossible that your brother can't hear you coughing at all hours of the day.
âY/n-ah. I know that you're not doing well right now. Don't even try to deny it,â Minho says. He closes his eyes for a moment before seemingly deciding something. âI- you don't have to tell me what it is. I would prefer it if you did, but just- what can I do to help?â
You take a deep breath, preparing yourself to reassure him that you're fine, but regret it when you start choking instead. You lurch upright and head directly to the bathroom, Minho trailing behind you worriedly.Â
âI-â Trying to talk just makes it worse. You're used to it now, the way that the thorns seem to claw at your throat on their way up, how even the brush of soft petals against the raw flesh hurts, the metallic taste that you can't seem to get rid of no matter how many times you wash your mouth. Still, it doesn't make it easier.
Minho watches in silence as you heave over the toilet. He puts a hand on your back, rubbing slow circles to try and soothe some of your pain. Your eyes water, partially from coughing and partly because you're mortified that your brother is finally witnessing this.
You throw up finally, mostly petals and blood, which is a relief. The stems have been the most painful by far, each thorn digging into the already abused flesh of your throat.
When you finally finish rinsing your mouth, he's holding out a tissue which you accept gratefully. Minho doesn't comment until you've finally caught your breath.
âY/n-ah-â
âYeah,â you say miserably, tearing at the leftover tissue in your hand. Your voice both sounds and feels like you've been swallowing gravel. âHanahaki, who would have guessed that I'd be a romantic at heart?â
You laugh weakly. Minho doesn't.
âI knew it. All those times you locked yourself in the bathroom with the water running⌠That stupid bath bomb story you told me⌠I hear you up at all hours, coughing your lungs out⌠Youâve been hiding it this whole time, havenât you?â he accuses you.
âI can explain-â
âGo on then,â Minho says impatiently.
âI- It's-â You bury your face in your hands, unable to get the words out. âIt's stupid.â
âY/n-ah, it's obviously not stupid. Whatever it is, it's bothering you enough that it's hurting you physically.â
âI like someone,â you say in a small voice. âOkay? That's it.â
âWhy won't you tell them?â Minho demands. âWhy won't you tell me who it is?â
âNo, I can't. Thereâs no point, it wouldn't work out,â you insist, shaking your head.
âWhat are you talking about? No point? Y/n, can't you see it's killing you.â You've never heard Minho sound so desperate. He's angry, he's frustrated, but most of all, he's scared, you realise.
âOppa-â you say cautiously, but you're interrupted by yet another coughing fit. You can't hide it from your brother when the tissue that you've used to cover your mouth is tinged red by the time you're done. You can feel there's still something lodged in your throat, it takes everything in you to ignore the urge to continue coughing to try and get it out.
âI can't lose you, Y/n,â he whispers. Your eyes widen when you realise his are filled with tears. You don't think you've ever seen Minho cry. âI can't let you do this to yourself, please.â
âI need more time-â
âYou donât have time!â Minho interrupts frantically. âHave you even seen a doctor about this?â
You look away guiltily at the question.
âNo, but-â
âAre you kidding me?â Minho says exasperatedly. âWeâre booking you an appointment right now.â
âIs it going to make a difference? I know whatâs wrong-â As if to prove your point, you canât stop yourself from coughing again. âIt's not that bad yet, oppa,â you lie, the croakiness of your voice giving you away.
âY/n-â
âI promise! I promise that I am trying my best. I- if it doesn't get better, I'll see a doctor in two weeks.âÂ
âNot good enough, Y/n-ah. If you can't tell me, at least talk to whoever you like,â he pleads.Â
âFine,â you say. âI- I'll talk to him in the next few days. And if the flowers don't go away, then I will see a doctor.â
Minho lets out a heavy sigh of relief, pulling you into his arms for a tight hug. You try your best to sink into his embrace, but just can't ignore the guilt that seems to consume you.
â
Chan catches you outside your last lecture that night. You're not sure how exactly he found out your schedule, but you exit the lecture hall to find him leaning against the wall directly across from the doors.
It could just be that he knows someone else taking this course or that he has a class in the same room, but somehow you know that he's waiting for you. Not ready for this conversation, you try to keep your head down to pass by unnoticed, but you know that he's spotted you when he calls out your name.
âHey.â Chan reaches out, tugging on your sleeve without actually touching you. You turn around, stomach sinking slightly. Yes, you had promised your brother that you'd confess to Chan, but you didn't think it would happen so soon. âYou're heading home right?â
âYeah,â you say warily. âWhat's up?â
âI'm going back too, can we walk together?â
âSure,â you agree slowly, not able to think of a way to get out of this situation.Â
The two of you walk in silence towards your bus stop. Chan's being uncharacteristically awkward and you're not sure what to expect.
âI wanted to talk to you about something,â he says suddenly.
âOkay?â
Chan stays quiet for so long that youâre about to ask if heâs okay.
âI like you,â he blurts out, right as you open your mouth to speak.
âWhat?â Of everything he could have said, this is what you're expecting the least. Thereâs no way that you heard him correctly, you must need to get your ears checked.
âI like you,â Chan repeats. You blink up at him, stunned. âBut if you don't feel the same way, it's- don't worry about it. I promise that I'll respect it. I'll back off and everything will stay the same. I just wanted to get it off my chest. And maybe, I don't know if I was just making things up, but I thought that you liked me too?â
âYou can't,â is all that escapes your mouth.
âI⌠can't like you?â Chan asks, baffled.
âNo, it's- you can't- we can't,â you stammer. âMy brother-"
âWhat, you think I'm afraid of Minho-ya?â Chan asks cockily, raising an eyebrow in a way that you can't help but find attractive.
âI just- he always said-â
âY/n-ah,â Chan says gently. âI like you and I don't care what your dumb brother thinks. He can complain all he wants, but as long as you're happy, I'm happy. And-â
âYou actually like me?â you interrupt.
âYes, is it really so hard to believe?â
âI just always thought, you only saw me as Minho-oppa's baby sister,â you say glumly, kicking at the ground.
âI did when you were younger for sure,â Chan laughs. âBut since university, I feel like I've actually gotten to know the real you, to see how funny, talented, kind, and thoughtful you are. I like you for you, not because I'm friends with your brother.âÂ
âBut there's so many other girls you could choose from that are much prettier or smarter than me,â you argue, still not wanting to get your hopes up.
âY/n-ah, are you actually trying to convince me not to like you?â Chan pouts. âIf you don't feel the same way, just say so, it's okay.â
âNo! I-â you trail off, suddenly feeling incredibly shy.
âYou what?â Chan prompts you gently.
âI like you too.â Your voice is barely a whisper, but you know that he's heard you from the smile that grows on his face.
âWhat was that?â Chan asks cheekily.
âI said I like you too!â you say louder this time, before hiding your face in your hands so that you don't have to look at Chan.Â
Even though you're beyond embarrassed, you feel better than you have in a long time, giddy with the idea that Chan actually reciprocates your feelings.
But when you breathe in, instead of relief, there's still that familiar tightness in your chest.Â
You have to talk to Minho, you realise. As much as you've been keeping it a secret from Chan, you know that a majority of your inner turmoil stems from hiding our feelings from the closest person in your life. You had hoped that talking to Chan would instantly cure your hanahaki, but clearly you were wrong.
â
For the first time in weeks, you purposely seek out Minho. Luckily, you don't have to look far, when you get home, Minho is stretched out on the couch watching anime.
âI told him,â you say. Minho immediately sits upright, turning his attention to you. âThe guy I like. But it didnât help, the flowers are still-â
âAnd he feels the same way?â Minho interrupts you.
âI- yes, heâs the one that confessed first.â
âWow,â Minho whistles. âWhoâs crazy enough to have feelings for you?â
You had already made up your mind that you had to tell your brother, but his reaction makes you even more confident in your decision. Maybe it's the way that Minho is treating this so lightly, but youâre no longer nervous to say it out loud.
âIt's Chan-oppa,â you say, bracing yourself.Â
âChan?â Minho repeats, shell shocked.
âChannie-hyung? Like-â he takes out his phone and pulls up the photo he has of Chan in his contacts.
Chan has the craziest bedhead and his face is puffy from sleep in the photo. He's squinting up at the camera, a hand coming up to try and block his face. He looks adorable.
Minho watches your face carefully as you visibly melt a bit looking at the picture.
âYou really do like him, huh,â he says in a quiet voice, no longer joking around. âThis whole time?â
âYeah.â You look down. âI'm sorry.â
âThat's it? That's the person you've been so scared of telling me that you liked?"
âI- yes? You don't think it's weird?â you ask tentatively, looking back up at your brother. âThe two of us being together? He's one of your best friends.â
âOh no, itâs definitely weird.â Minho laughs. âI do not understand it at all. But Y/n, Channie-hyung is one of the few people in my life that I trust. Do I want him to be dating my baby sister? Of course not! I don't want you to be dating anyone. Do I think heâs out of his mind for being interested in you? Definitely.â
âHey!â you interject. Minho carries on like he canât hear you.
âDo I think he fully understands that if he hurts you in any way, directly or indirectly, on purpose or on accident, that I will hunt him down and make him regret the fact that he ever existed in the first place? Yes, I think he knows.â
âOppa,â you say in horror. âYou will not give your best friend the shovel talk.â
âI donât have to.â Minho smiles brightly, a picture of innocence if you didnât know him. âMy reputation precedes me. Channie-hyung's one of my closest friends, he would never expect anything less from me.â
âOppa-â
âY/n-ah,â Minho softens his voice. âI also know that of all the people that I've ever met, Channie-hyung is one that is least likely to ever hurt you. I trust him, but I also want you to know that I trust your judgement.â
You look away, sniffing. You never could have imagined that Minho would accept your relationship so easily that it's making you feel emotional.
âAigoo, Y/nnie,â Minho coos. He pulls you into a tight hug, ignoring the way that tears finally escape from you and stain his shirt. âYou were really worried about this, weren't you?â
You nod into his shoulder, unable to provide a verbal response.
âI'm sorry that I made you feel like you couldn't tell me about this. It's definitely going to take a bit of time to get used to it, but I'm happy for you, really. I know I can seem overbearing sometimes, but I just worry.â
âI didn't want you to be upset at Channie-oppa or me,â you murmur. âI didn't want to do anything to hurt your friendship. I didn't want to hurt our relationship.â
âY/n-ah,â Minho says gently, but firmly. âI want you to know that there is nothing that could hurt our relationship. You're my baby sister, I'm always going to love you.â
After months of keeping all your feelings bottled up, of denying your feelings for Chan, of dreading Minhoâs reaction, youâve felt a constant dread, guilt filling your insides. Now, youâre just filled with an overwhelming sense of relief. Itâs as if an enormous weight has been lifted off your shoulders.
It feels like you can breathe again.

bump
summary - you donât like people constantly touching your baby bump
word count - +1k
pairing - azriel x reader
â¨đđŤđâ¨đđŤđâ¨đđŤđâ¨đđŤđâ¨
The party was in full swing.
It had been 2 weeks since youâd announced to your close friends and family that you and Azriel were pregnant - after having 1 month living with the news just you two.
Somehow, Rhys had managed to plan and pull-off a party in that short space of time in order to celebrate your pregnancy.
It was relatively low-key, only people that were closest to you and your family having been invited - mainly because you didnât want a huge thing made of it but also because Azriel was a mad-man at the moment and wouldnât let anyone he didnât trust with his life near you.
Azriel had been overprotective to say the least.
Just the other day youâd tried to reach for your favourite mug in a very accessible shelf above you, but Azriel saw what you were doing and instantly panicked - moving you gently out of the way and fetching it for you. To which he also proceeded in making you a tea as he didnât want you anywhere near boiling water.
âI can make my own cup of tea, Az.â You sighed.
âI know you can, but I can also make one for you.â He replied. That was his usual reply nowadays.
âIâm not incapable you know?â
âI know. I just⌠I canâ.â
âYes I know you can, love, but I donât need you to all the time, okay? I love that you want to take care of me, but I also donât want to feel useless.â
âHow could you be useless? Youâre currently doing the most important thing that you could ever be doing.â Azriel placed a soft hand on your stomach.
But after shunning Azriel for being too overprotective, you sort of wish he would bring it back again in this moment.
This party was lovely, but it was also so overwhelming.
You didnât realise how many people would be so interested in coming up to you and feeling your baby bump. Hands constantly touching you when they usually wouldnât if you werenât pregnant. It felt weird and uncomfortable.
âY/N!â Layla called, walking up to you with a glass of bubbly in her hand.
âLayla, hi.â You smiled at your friend who had worked with you in the Velaris bakery for many years.
âI canât believe youâre pregnant.â She gushed, giggling a bit with excitement.
âReally? With the amount Y/N and Az sneak around every moment they get, I thought it was about damn time.â Nesta came up alongside you, rolling her eyes as is her and Cassian donât do the exact same thing.
âWell with a mate like Azriel, I donât blame you.â Layla wiggled her eyebrows and you gave her a small smile - feeling a little insecure that someone as beautiful as Layla was gushing over your mate whilst you were starting to look like an inflated balloon.
You felt Nesta give you a side look before wandering off into the crowd, leaving you to once again speak to Layla alone.
âSo how far along are you?â Layla asked.
It would have been fine if she just asked that, but she had to go and put her hand against your bump at the same time.
You were far too polite to say anything but you really didnât like her hand on your stomach. Not just hers but also everyone elseâs whoâd decided to just touch you without asking first.
It was starting to feel invasive.
âAbout 12 weeks.â You gave her a small smile, stepping back slightly.
Unfortunately for you she just followed, adding her hand back.
âWow so you didnât have any symptoms for a while then?â She asked, cupping the roundness of your belly with her palm.
It didnât feel as comforting as when Azriel touched you. Nothing ever would, but there was something so overstimulating about someone other than your mate just touching you before asking. It felt a little violating.
Before you could get emotional about it in front of a crowded room you excused yourself.
You hurried as fast as you could out of the nearest door and walked through the corridors of the House of Wind.
The tears had arrived as you were walking, your heart beating fast and hands shaking with nerves.
Was it rude to not let people touch your bump? You couldnât help but think.
Yet, at the same time you would never just go up to a female and put your hands on her pregnant bump - even if it was Feyre - You respect their boundaries too much. So why did you feel like getting upset about this was silly?
Was it the hormones? Because they had been making you feel slightly crazy recently.
You made it to the kitchen without bumping in to anyone.
You braced your arms on the kitchen counter and sunk your chin to your chest, letting out small whimpers as the tears fell.
There was no need to jump from your skin when Azrielâs arms snaked around your waist to hug you because youâd felt his presence the moment heâd appeared in the room. His cheek was delicately placed on the back of your head to still allow you the time and space to be upset.
Some of his shadows were already snaking around your arms in support and stomach in protection.
âWhatâs wrong, love?â He asked and you had to laugh at his tone.
âAsk me what you really want to ask, Az.â You lifted your chin up and tilted your head to the side to try and see him.
âIâm not sure asking you who I need to kill is the right thing to say when youâre crying.â
You chuckled, kissing the side of his face.
Azriel let you turn around in his hold, not letting your waist go for a moment though. Now his head was tilted down to face yours.
âTell me.â He said softly.
Your smile broke as your lips wobbled, trying to focus on not crying and instead talk it through with your mate.
âI hate it.â Your voice wavered.
âHate what? Who?â
âI hate purple touching my bump.â
âOkay.â Azriel said but didnât add any thoughts for you. He wanted to hear you say everything on your mind first.
âN-not you. But, people have been touching my bump all day without asking and I hate it. I hate it so much, but I feel like a witch if I tell them to get off. Like itâs just my stomach at the end of the day..â
Azriel moved his hands quickly from your waist to cup your cheeks, stroking his thumb carefully over your cheeks. His touch immediately stopped you from talking.
âWoah, woah, woah. No. Donât do that. Donât try and talk yourself out of feeling the way you do. Itâs your stomach, love. Itâs your baby. No one should be doing anything youâre not comfortable with - ever.â
âNo I know, butâŚâ
âNo buts. Y/N, love, if you feel uncomfortable then thatâs the line I draw. The next person to touch your bump without asking is going to lose their hand.â
You give him a stoic look, but part of you was seriously wondering whether he was being truthful.
âWill you stay with me for the rest of the night?â
âOr how about we donât go back at all.â He raised his eyebrows in suggestion at you.
âIf youâre on the same wavelength as me then yes - please!â
âPerfect.â He kissed you softly, both your chests warming at the touch, âYou get the ice-cream and I will get the blankets.â

Yan!Batfam x Neglected!Reader
Prologue - > Part 1 - > Part 2 - > Part 3
How could he have known that you were with your friends?
You sat there for a while, in the cold car with the sudden realization that that man you had quite literally just met knew something he shouldn't have. Were you overthinking it? Were you just to tired to really comprehend the actual situation, your mind instantly going to something more darker and blaming an innocent man?
Maybe you were paranoid, just maybe. He was a vigilante for goodness sakes. He helps people, saves them. He most likely just assumed that you were out and about, hanging out with buds. There wasn't any need to jump to such big conclusions- to make an innocent man the target of your paranoia.
As you sat there, you tried your best to control your breathing, feeling it go out of control every time the thought of him knowing more than he should've creeped back into your mind. Maybe you really were just going crazy for all you knew.
Your hand shakily reached up to the ignition with the key to start the far, you couldn't think about this right now. Not in the middle of who knows where, alone, in a car. You tried, keyword tried, to push it away, to shoo away the bad thoughts until you were in a safer environment to be allowed to do so.
You drove back to the manor, trying to keep your mind in a happy place. Thinking of things to distract yourself, not noticing the skillfully hidden figure watching your vehicle make its way onto the street.
You slowly made your way towards the manor doors, not wanting to go in. God, why didn't you ask to stay over at a friend's house? If anytime was good, now would be, when your head was working against you and you could've used a friend to help you with it all.
Ah.
Your mind went back to a few certain people as you thought that. As much as you would've loved to, staying at a friend's house when some people were, "keeping an eye out on you," Suddenly disappearing probably wouldn't be the smartest move on your part.
You let out a sigh as you slowly opened the doors, looking around for a minute before making the hike up the stairs and back to your room. You kept looking around, at all the little places you memorized from walking through these halls for years. Something you were hoping would change very soon.
You jumped out of your trance as you felt a hand tap on your shoulder, whipping around and coming face to face with Duke who still had a worried look on his face. You opened your mouth to speak, but closed it as he beat you to it.
"Are you alright? I was worried when you disappeared all of a sudden." You held back to urge to roll your eyes, "yeah I'm fine don't worry. Really, there's no reason to be worried." You stood there awkwardly for a second before slowly turning to make your way back to your room.
Duke suddenly put that to a halt as he said, "hey, you shouldn't stress yourself out so much. I know you wanna work hard, but maybe try to relax, yeah?" You looked back at him, trying to think of what to say.
You would've been mad if it was anyone else, should've been mad nonetheless, but you never really knew Duke. He was always nice, and you both were older, teens when you both had first met. Despite everything, he still treated you the kindest.
So you sighed, before fully turning to face him. You softly smiled at him before saying, "thanks Duke, I'll keep that in mind." You patted his arm before walking back to your room trying to ignore the face he made, just wanting to sleep and prepare yourself for whatever tomorrow intailed.
Man you wished that you were old enough to drink.
You adjusted your uniform, tidying up as best as you could. You were a tad bit nervous, more than usual as today was the day you decided to quit a club. You had to step out of your comfort zone, and maybe it wasn't a big deal to some, but for you it was a really big deal.
All the times you had walked through those halls, hoping for something more from the very people that lived there, it hurt more than everything. And it still didnt hurt any less, but you were gonna make it okay, because you did have people to rely on, people who would be there, who would gladly hang up your photos and take time out of their day to be with you.
You wanted more then everything to start doing stuff you liked, be with people you liked, so that's exactly what you were going to do.
You gathered up the rest of your stray items and set them into your bag. Nervous yes, but overall thrilled to be doing this, patting your self before making your way towards your door to get to school.
You looked at a picture from one of the many photo booths you had run into the night before, hung up on your wall of you, Aryan and Ethan, all smiling, happy and making weird faces.
For the first time in awhile going to school didn't seem to hard.
"I'm sorry, I'm what?"
Your debate teachers face scrunched up slightly as he started to explain, "well, you're out, that's it." He paused before continuing, "technically, isn't that what you wanted? So I don't see the problem." You felt nothing but absolute confusion as he said that, slowly processing his words.
You did amazing, was, were, one of the best debaters, you were always helpful, willing to offer a helping hand to those that needed one, inside and outside the class. So what was the problem? Why were you suddenly cut off the team?
Him sighing and gesturing for you to lean in brought back your attention, "look, kid, to be honest, your amazing. But, this other kid, don't really know his name, started with a D? I don't know, but he waltzed in here, saying how he wanted you off the team, and started going on about you and stuff, something like that."
He scratched his head, "usually, I would just shoo people like that off, but he had a signed paper and everything!" He waved his arms around to emphasize the paper, "look, I'm sorry kid, I figured you knew about it since... well, y'know."
You could feel a huge headache coming on, desperately needing a pill. You paused your thoughts as you took what he said to mind. You stumbled on your words, "I- I'm sorry, Damien?" He nodded his head, getting a grim look on his face, "don't get me wrong, I've dealt with some freaky kids, but that one was definitely pretty freakish."
You were about to make your way into another rant, when you decided to leave it as it is. As much as you wanted to fight him on it, you know it wasn't his fault. You took a breath and forced yourself to calm down and smiled at him politely before taking your stuff and storming off, making turns through the halls towards your car.
You were going to talk to him, yell, whatever. Yes, you were going to quit the club, or a club, but just because didn't mean he had the right to butt in. It was your choice to make, one that seemed to be a good one, one that make you excited until you got there only to find out Damien had gotten you kicked out in the first place.
You and Damien never had a close relationship, always having some sort of rift between the two of you no matter what you did to try and repair it. And for once, for once, you decided you were gonna move on, live your own life, and he decides he doesn't want that?
No.
You weren't gonna just let him decide this. This was for you to decide, and you weren't gonna let him make something that should've been a new chapter into something else as he had done one too many times. You really didn't want that to happen right now, especially when this particular thing was supposed to be a turning point for you.
Maybe you were being dramatic, but in all honesty you couldn't care less. Sure, maybe at the base of it all, what you were really mad at was not just this, but all the other times he was ruined things for you, turning stuff that made you happy into stuff that made you cry and sick everytime it entered your sight, the fact that you were always to weak to put a stop to it.
You just hoped that you would be strong enough to tell him this time.
You slowly made your way towards Damien, having searched for him for a good while. You were filled with anger earlier, but it slowly faded away and out of your body once you noticed Dick standing by him.
You didn't know how to confront him with Dick by your side, at most he wouldn't care, right? You hoped with every fiber in your body that they would push whatever you decided on saying to the deep depths of their minds. As you neared them, the moment they took notice of you, you almost had to double back and go throw up from how nervous you were.
But, you held your ground and continued walking until you were infront of them, trying to hide how harshly you were breathing and the mini panic attack you were having on the inside. "Damien, can I talk to you, somewhere private?" You said with as much confidence you could muster. He stared for a moment before responding, "why? We can talk right here."
The small bite in his tone reminded you exactly why you were in this situation in the first place. Taking a deep breath, "fine. Damien, why did you get me kicked out of my club? It's my club, and you shouldn't have to go behind my back to talk to my teacher." You waited, trying your best to ignore Dick just staring at you.
He rubbed his eyes, sighing, before giving you a fierce look, "look, whether you like it or not, you're my sister. What you do directly effects me and father. And I'd rather not have to deal with you passing out in public, with everyone as a witness."
You scoffed at what he said, " your sister? Well whether you like it or not, it's not for you to decide! What I decide to do with my life outside- actually, inside this manor as well, had absolutely nothing to do with you, or anyone else that lives here."
You breathed harshly out of your nose, trying to keep a cool head but failing miserably. You took in a deep breath before starting another rant, " and y'know what Damien? I passed out once why does everyone think I'm suddenly this super fragile person?" -You barely noticed the way he winced from the pure venom of which you spat his name- "I honestly hate-"
Suddenly Dick covered your mouth, pausing after doing so as if not even meaning to. His eyes jolted around for a bit before settling on whispering, "please don't say stuff like that, okay?" You stared at him, pushing his hand off your mouth. "Say what? That I hate your guts? Is that what the problem is?"
He almost looked surprised at the hatred in your voice, before letting out a sigh, "look, I'm sorry okay? You're probably tired, and just need to go lay down-"
You laughed incredulously, absolutely shocked at his words. Had he even been listening? You decided that you had had enough of his- no, enough of their bullshit. It wasn't your job to cater to their every whim.
You decided then and there to just leave. You rubbed hard at your face, as if to try and rid of the tension and unadulterated anger coursing through your body. Was this whole family crazy? You honestly couldn't care less, you were tired, hungry, and just wanted to be somewhere safe.
You suddenly looked at the two annoyed, "I'm gonna stay at a friend's house tonight. Bye!" Quickly turning around, you started to make your way back down where you had come from. You pushed anything they had said out of your head as you tried to mentally retrace your footsteps back.
Because you had already spaced out, you hadn't noticed Dick speading towards you, completely blocking your path. You jumped at him suddenly invading your view, giving him a questioning look. He looked back at Damien a few times before muttering a quick, 'I'm sorry' and snatching your phone out of your hand.
You looked at him incredulously, at this point really wondering if it was all a dream. Dick stood there, trying to convince you to go to your room. "Look, I'm sorry, can you please go back for now? I promise I'll give it back later I just-" He paused as he looked back at Damien, the both of them having a silent conversation.
Suddenly Damien sighed and spoke up, "go away, I need to talk to Dick." You could feel his stare bore into the back of your head. You scoffed and just left, figuring it wasn't worth the fight. Although you wanted to try and grab it, you tried to soothe yourself with the fact that you still had your computer to contact someone- anyone.
Running Walking away, you could faintly hear Damien start to talk to Dick, 'I thought we told you already-' but you quickly pushed it out of your head. All you could think of at the moment was how pissed you were with those two, what was their problem??
Frankly, any other day you wouldn't have left. It was your phone, and they couldn't just suddenly decide to team up and take it away. But, you didn't care anymore, you were done with having nothing to deal with, then now having to deal with everything.
You tried to soothe yourself with the fact that this time tomorrow you would be out of here.
You walked into your room and slammed the door, sliding down against it trying your best to calm down. For all you knew they could've broken it. You mentally beat yourself up for not just snatching the phone back. The thought of that made you remember something as you sprung up, making your way towards your desk.
Pulling multiple draws open before your eyes finally landed on what you were looking for, you quickly grabbed it out, pushing along the few trinkets that resided on top.
Your laptop.
You needed to message someone, maybe Aryan? Would she even answer? Or maybe Ethan, he might-
.
You paused before quickly turning back towards the desk, once again looking through the drawer that held your laptop. You looked through it multiple times, taking everything out before moving towards other drawers.
After moving everything out, looking once again through the mountain of items that sat om your floor, even going as far as any other desks, drawers, hell, your backpack. Yet no matter where you looked, you couldn't find it. Did someone steal it? Did Aryan- or no, even Miss Honey take it?
Where the hell was your camera?
The dim room was faintly lit up by the big computer screen, shining onto nearby objects and the young man who sat at the desk it resided on. He watched the video, taking in every detail of it. The small giggles that got let out every now and then, the way you threw flour at the other girl in the video, laughing and smiling brightly.
Tim looked over the video, and the many others that were on the sim card over and over again. It was so weird- he never really cared about you, still didn't really. Then what was that aching tug in his heart? but nonetheless, seeing you there, no longer the small kid that he could always sense trailing somewhere behind him, it was weird.
He remembers the first time he met you, you coming up to him with a smile, bandages on your knee, hair wild. It was amusing seeing someone so full of life and color in such a desolate and dark manor. With how sleep deprived he was, he genuinely thought for a second that he went to the wrong manor.
But you weren't little, you weren't the same joy filled kid that he ran into so few times. You were older, and because he didn't know you it was easier to just place you as a faceless nobody.
Well, until you were brought to his attention.
It was like a parasite, the way he slowly heard more and more people talking about you, worrying about you. It honestly didn't make sense. You really weren't special, you had a few quirks here and there, but that was about it. What was so different?
After he ransacked your room, looking through drawers and settling on stealing a camera, he connected it to his computer and looked through the contents. There was a mountain of pictures, ranging from sunsets, to photos with friends, to even the beautiful shimmering ocean.(when did you visit the ocean?)
As much as he hated to admit it, he understood where the rest were coming from. The fact that you hadn't ever touched the dark vigilante life- never having the get your hands dirty from another person's blood, it made you so much different than them.
You were human, something to be treasured, to be kept safe and sound. He couldn't help but think of how different you seemed as of late. In the few times he saw you, he saw a quiet wallflower. But now? Seeing you so of life almost made him... admire you in a way.
The humanity you had, having the ability to be happy and share your love with those around you so freely. He could tell from each picture and video he looked at, the way you talked, looked, it made it so clear that you were someone overflowing with love.
And he longed for you to share it with him as well.

3, 2, 1! LUKE HUGHES
â event masterlist !
pairing: bratt!sister!reader x luke hughes
summary: amidst the glittering chaos of a new year's eve party, you attempt to find closure with the boy you've been crushing on since you came to new jersey.
warnings: bratt!sister, jespers younger sister, brief mentions of drinking, a big ol' kiss
wc: 1.31k
notes: 11 of 12 in my xmas celebration! not technically christmas but i love new years first kiss plots!!
The evening begins in a blur of anticipation, a mingling of nerves and excitement that coils in your stomach like a restless storm. New Jersey isnât where you thought youâd find yourself spending the holidays, but with Jesperâs insistence and the comfort of your brotherâs familiar presence, you had stayed. And now, youâre en route to the Devilsâ New Yearâs party, clad in a deep navy sequined mini dress that glitters like the night sky, trying to pretend your heart isnât racing for reasons that have nothing to do with the party.
Jesperâs hands rest casually on the steering wheel, but his eyes flick towards you every so often, a smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
âYouâre nervous,â he says, breaking the silence.
âAm not,â you reply too quickly, fiddling with the rings that adorn your fingers.
Jesper huffs a laugh. âRight. So, whoâs the lucky guy youâre hoping to kiss at midnight?â
You roll your eyes, fighting the flush creeping up your neck. âNo one. Iâm just going to celebrate and have fun, okay?â
He hums thoughtfully. âNot even Luke?â
The name hits you like a slap, your head snapping towards him. âWhy would you bring up Luke?â
Jesper grins now, openly amused. âOh, come on. Just because I didnât go to fancy, smart people school like you doesnât mean Iâm stupid. You should see the way you two look at each other. Itâs⌠gross.â
Your heart skips a beat, and you cross your arms, leaning back into the car seat as you glare at Jesper. Moving to New Jersey for hockey, and heading to Princeton to play D1, had been a whirlwind in itself. You hadnât anticipated the move would also bring a perfectly sweet and charming boy into your life as well.
Every interaction with Luke had an undercurrent of something that felt almost electric. His teasing remarks always carried a hint of sincerity, and his soft smiles lingered just a second too long. You werenât blind to the way his gaze would find you across a room, or the way your pulse quickened whenever he was near. But neither of you had crossed the invisible line between harmless flirtation and something more, leaving you in this frustrating limbo of uncertainty.
Your throat tightens as you fumble for a rebuttal, but nothing comes. He notices.
âExactly,â Jesper says, his voice laced with triumph. You open your mouth to retort, but Jesper cuts you off. âLook, all Iâm saying is that youâve got an opportunity tonight. New Yearâs Eve, champagne, fireworksâliterally the most romantic setup possible. If you like him, just⌠do something about it. Itâs not that hard.â
You bite your lip, Jesperâs words rattling around in your brain. Could you? Could you really make the first move? Or, more terrifyingly, what if you were wrong? What if Luke didnât feel the same way, and you ruined everything?
As the car pulls up to the party, Jesper glances at you, his usual grin softened into something gentler. âTrust me,â he says as if he could read the little thoughts of uncertainty running through your mind. âHe likes you.â
The party is already in full swing when you walk in, the hum of music and the buzz of conversation creating an atmosphere thick with celebration. The room is a wash of twinkling lights, champagne flutes, and laughter. You smooth your hands over your dress, the sequins catching the light with every movement, and try to swallow the lump in your throat.
Jesper winks at you before disappearing into the crowd, leaving you to navigate the throng of people on your own. And then, almost as if drawn by some magnetic force, your eyes find him.
Heâs leaning casually against the bar, dressed in dark jeans and a Ralph Lauren sweater that fits just rightâeffortlessly polished yet entirely approachable. His brown curls are longer than when you last saw them, sitting in a boyish heap on top of his head, and his expression is easygoing as he laughs at something one of his teammates says. But the moment he catches sight of you, his face changes. His posture straightens, and a flicker of something â relief? Awe? â crosses his face. His gaze sweeps over you, lingering a beat too long on your dress, and you feel heat rising to your cheeks.
But before either of you can act, someone claps a hand on Lukeâs shoulder, pulling his attention away, and a cluster of teammates intercepts you. The moment is gone.
The night becomes a frustrating dance, a game of cat and mouse where youâre always just out of reach. You catch glimpses of Luke across the room, his head turning as if searching for you, but something â or someone â always gets in the way. One time, you enter the lounge area and spot him on the other side, his eyes lighting up when they meet yours. But just as you step forward, someone grabs your arm, pulling you into a conversation about your studies at Princeton. By the time you politely excuse yourself, Luke is gone. Again.
You find yourself checking the clock more often than you care to admit. Time feels like sand slipping through your fingers. The minutes tick closer to midnight, the air buzzing with anticipation as people gather their champagne flutes and prepare for the countdown. Your heart sinks with every passing second you donât see him. You resign yourself to the fact that this night might end like so many others â with a lingering sense of what could have been.
The final countdown begins at thirty seconds. The room erupts in excitement, voices growing louder with each passing number. You lean against a high-top table, frustration seeping into your bones as you watch couples and friends gather in anticipation. Your chest feels tight, disappointment creeping in as the seconds tick closer to the new year.
10⌠9⌠8âŚ
You scan the room one last time, half-hoping, half-defeatedâuntil you see him. Luke bursts into the room, his expression frantic as his eyes search the crowd. When they finally meet yours, a visible wave of relief washes over him.
7⌠6⌠5âŚ
Heâs moving toward you now, weaving through the throng of people with long, purposeful strides. Your breath catches as the crowd seems to part for him, every other noise and movement fading into nothing.
4⌠3⌠2... 1...
He reaches you just as the final seconds vanish, his hands finding your hips, pulling you flush against him. The room erupts in cheers, a cacophony of âHappy New Year!â echoing around you, but all you feel is Luke. His lips crash against yours with a fervor that takes your breath away, his hands anchoring you to him as though heâs afraid youâll disappear.
You kiss back without hesitation, your arms winding around his shoulders to pull him closer, your fingers curling into the soft fabric of his sweater. Itâs a kiss thatâs been building for months, maybe longer, and itâs everythingâsoft and urgent, sweet and electric.
When you finally break apart, the world feels fuzzy around the edges, the noise of the party and the faint sound of Auld Lang Syne fading into a distant hum. Lukeâs forehead rests lightly against yours, his breath mingling with yours as he searches your face.
âWeâve waited too long for that,â he murmurs, his voice low and rough.
You donât trust your voice to respond, so you nod, your fingers curling into the fabric of his sweater.
The corners of Lukeâs mouth lift into a soft smile. âHappy New Year.â
âHappy New Year,â you manage to whisper back, your lips brushing his once more as the words leave your mouth.
Around you, the party rages on, but in this moment, itâs just the two of you â finally on the same page, finally saying all the things your hearts had been trying to tell each other for months.

Bucky wished Steve was still around so he could talk to him about things. He wish that his best friend was still there to see the progress he was slowly making. Wished to know if his best friend was proud of him.
But most importantly he wished Steve chose to stay with him and Sam so he could have met the person who brought him back to life, who brought his long existence actual meaning other than jumping from fight to fight. He knew Steve would have loved her and probably would have thanked her for everything.
But sadly Steve went to live a different life without him so he had to deal with Sam all alone.
For a year after Steve left Bucky struggled to go out, he struggled to find his path in a world that he wasnât suppose to be apart of. He should have died that day when he fell from the train.
His therapist tried to get him to go out into the world and meet people, Bucky would say ânext timeâ until Dr Raynor eventually gave up on trying.
For a whole year Bucky moved with the motion, just existing, alive and breathing but just barely holding on to that invisible thread.
That was until six years ago. Six years ago everything changed.
** six years ago **
âBuck please-â
âDonât call me that! How many times do I have to tell youâ
âOh Iâm sorry Sir Bucky! But like I said please just come with me? It would do you some good to get out of your apartment, wait Bucky are you even listening to me?â
âYeah, yeah Iâm listening. I do get out-â
âTo see your therapist and thatâs itâ
âIâm still going out arenât I?â Bucky responds snappily, rolling his eyes as Sam groans through the speaker.
âPlease Bucky, itâs just coffee!â
âGod sake, okay. Iâll be there. Byeâ He really didnât want to go out and get a coffee with Sam but he ended agreeing knowing that he would not have stopped, probably even going as far as coming to his apartment just to drag him out of there. Since Steve left, poor Bucky had been left all alone on with Sam, okay it wasnât as bad as he made it out to be but still he had been left with a man that annoyed him more than anything.
Groaning inwardly he slides his phone into his jeans front pocket before shoving his gloved hands into the pockets of his leather jacket, as he walked down the street he kept his head down so he didnât make eye contact with anyone walking by. It was safer that way. For him and those around him.
âJames Barnesâ he spoke roughly to the receptionist who made a habit of always pushing her chest out so he could get an eye full of her cleavage.
âTake a seatâ she responds batting her eyelashes with her chest pushed out. He thought after the tenth time of him rolling his eyes at her not so subtle attempt at flirting she would get the hint.
He was not interested.
âS-sorry is this seat taken?â A soft timid voice from a woman pulled Bucky out of his staring competition he was having with the fake plant by the water dispenser.
âHuh?â
âIs-is anyone sitting here?â
âNo. No you can sitâ
âT-thank youâ Bucky smiled and nodded softly instantly curious as to why she was also seeing a therapist. Bucky found himself getting lost in the smell of her perfume, the sweet smell creeping up his nostrils and into his senses. His eyes focused on the slow motion of her leg closest to his bouncing in time with the ticking of the clock.
âS-sir?â
âHuh? Yeah?â
âA-are you um are you J-James Barnes?â
Great just great. She knows who he is and from the way she stutters his name she clearly knows what heâs done and is scared of him. âYes thatâs meâ he finally answers.
âY-your names b-been called sirâ she points over to where the receptionist is and sees her waiting for him to follow her down the hallway to Dr Raynors office.
Oh. Oh okay he got it wrong. âOh, thank youâ
âY-your welcome sirâ
Bucky offers her a small smile that she responds with the same and follows Lila down the corridor. He has no idea that the small smile he gave her meant a great deal to her. Nor does he know that she talks about him to her therapist that was two doors down from his.
Neither one realises that one small smile would make such a massive impact on their lives.
Over the course of four months, twice a week Bucky would see the woman whose name he had yet to know, every time they sat patiently in the waiting room they would find themselves sitting next to each other. Always quietly asking if the seat next to them was taken. Even if there were other available seats.
Dr Raynor had quite enjoyed hearing about the woman who seemed to have taken residence in Buckyâs mind. And Dr Harlow was proud of hearing that her patient was seeing someone new. She laughed when her patient blushed and began stumbling over her words that she was not seeing this man in that sense.
Bucky walked in to the waiting room expecting to find the woman whose presence he had become content being around only to frown at seeing the two seats that became unofficially theirs empty. The whole time he waited for her but she never showed. His name was called, as he followed Lila he kept turning his head back to the double doors in hopes that he would catch a glimpse of her. Walking into the room he frowned at seeing Dr Raynor and another woman sitting down. This was new.
âJames, this is Dr Harlow.â
âHi?â
âHello Jamesâ
âWhatâs wrong? I didnât do-â
âNo, no James itâs⌠well you know the woman youâve been telling me about?â Raynor cuts him off and waits for him to nod âwell Dr Harlow is her therapist, Y/n was rushed in to the hospital early hours this morning-â
âY/n? Thatâs her name? Wait⌠what happened to her? Is she okay? Where is-â
âJames, sheâs okay. We canât disclose anything about what happened but-well you see Y/n has been talking about you in her sessions, nothing bad donât worry, and youâve been talking about her so we agreed that we should let you knowâ
Bucky sat there staring at his doctor as his mind raced with questions. She was in the hospital? Her name suited her perfectly. Why was she in the hospital? Who hurt her? She talked about him? âNothing badâ the good doctor stressed. Is she okay? âJames?â
âYeah erm, are you sure sheâs okay?â
âYes. We, well we talked to each otherâ Raynor points at between herself and Dr Harlow âand we think it would be a great opportunity for you to talk to her, maybe offer her some support-â
âWhy me? Arenât you two the therapists?â
âYes we are but James I donât think you realise how much those smiles and a few quiet words mean to Y/n. Nor she with you, now in my opinion I think it would be nice if the pair of you had someone to lean on when you donât have a session.â
Thinking it over for a few minutes he nodded and agreed. Dr Harlow said Y/n had mentioned that she felt safe with him which made his heart race faster than usual at hearing that a complete stranger felt safe around him when he was so use to it being different. No one felt safe around him, hell he didnât even feel safe with himself but yet she did. Not even ten seconds after the door closed behind Dr Harlow did Bucky start questioning his doctor about what had happened or where she was so he could go and see her, he just wanted to make sure she was fine but Raynor held strong and didnât back down from the harsh glare he was sending towards her. She never did though to be honest.
Ten minutes later Dr Raynor thought it was best to cut their session short, though promised him that she would make out that they did the full hour.
Two weeks. Two whole weeks it had been since he was told that she was in the hospital and he hadnât seen her. That day he thought it wouldnât be any different to the other days where he expected to see her, until he turned his back on Lila who thankfully now took the hint that he wasnât interested in her. His eyes squinted at seeing someone sitting in their seats.
âIs this seat taken?â He asked quietly, hoping that the woman in front of him would raise her head and smile as she said âno you can sitâ. And when she did. Well⌠letâs just say that what he wanted to do to whoever had caused such pain and suffering to his Y/n he wouldnât have pinned it on the Winter Soldier. No because Bucky Barnes would have happily admitted to shedding blood that wasnât his own. Happily and proudly.
âN-no you can sitâ she responds with that smile he sees when he closes his eyes at night.
âDoll-â Lila cuts him off by calling his name signalling that it was his time, he nods at her then faces Y/n. âAfter your session Iâm going to be waiting right here okay, and I want to take you for a coffee.â
âO-okayâ Y/n says with a shy smile. Bucky smiles back before going up to Lila, eyebrows burrowing when she doesnât lead him down the corridor. And thatâs when it finally hits him. He had never seen her doing that to any of the other patients.
He tells Dr Raynor that Y/n was back, told her the bruises that littered her beautiful face, told her what he had said to her and her response. âGo easy on her James, donât try and rush her into telling you all of her secrets okayâ but in the same breath suggests a nice place for him to take her.
Forty five minutes after his appointment had ended he was now sat a cross the table from Y/n with a black coffee in front of him and a hot chocolate in front of her.
âYou know what Iâm going to ask you donât you?â He says with a gentle smile, she nods. âAre you okay?â
âI-Iâm fi-fine now sirâ
âBucky, call me Bucky. How long was you in the hospital for?â
âA few d-days, Dr Harlow told me that she told you what happenedâ
âNot exactly they just said that you was in the hospital, wanted me to know since you talk about me all the timeâ winking at her when she blushed.
âI-I d-donâtâ
âAll the time they said, said that your obsessed with meâ
âWell y-you talk a-about me too!â
âMe? Never!â Bucky was ninety nine point nine percent sure that he had died right there and then and went to heaven when she laughed. He was sure of it. Her laugh could only described as angelic. God he wanted to hear it again and again until he dying breath.
âI-it was my exâ she whispered. She wasnât stupid she knew what he wanted to ask.
âWhere is he now?â
âJail still, h-have to go court in-in two weeks. My lawyer said h-heâll be going to prison for a long time, he broke the protection order an-and well thisâ she said gesturing to her face.
âYou had a protection order against him?â
âYes, throughout our relationship he was abusive the o-only way I managed to get out was because he had been cheating on me with a friend of mine, he left me a-and I was so happy because it meant that I didnât have to suffer no more but the friend didnât want him anymore because the fun of sneaking around had goneâ. Taking a deep breath before sipping on her hot chocolate she continued. âHe broke into my apartment and attacked me because I said no to taking him back, police was called by my neighbour and I got the restraining order against him because I could do that then, he went to prison and h-he got out three weeks ago, he broke into my apartment again and did this b-but the police arrived quickly as I already rang themâ
âDoll⌠Iâm so sorryâ
âItâs okay. Iâm okay nowâ
âItâs not okay Y/nâ
âIt is what it is, heâll be going to prison for a long time and Iâll be able to live my life again.â She smiled.
âW-when is it that you have to go to court?â
âIn two weeks, why?â
âCan I come with you? To offer my supportâ With her lack of response he knew he overstepped. Of course she isnât going to want the former Winter Soldier to come with her to face another monster in her life. Heâs about to apologise until she smiles once more and nods.
âI would really like that. Thank you Buckyâ Bucky smiled and nodded.
Their second cup of hot drinks had slowly grown cold as the conversation flowed effortlessly between the pair. Bucky loved the way she no longer stuttered or stumbled over her words the longer they spoke. She was about to say something when a bang from the window startled the pair of them.
âGreat.â He muttered.
âD-do you know him?â
âWho the crazy guy with his face squashed up against the window? Unfortunatelyâ Y/n giggled at his words then looked at the man who did in fact have his face squashed up against the window, his eyes moving back and forth between herself and Bucky. Waving shyly at the man who waved excitedly back Bucky rolled his eyes. âYou do realise youâve just basically invited him in, donât you? Oh see now heâs entering.â
âStop being meanâ
âDidnât expect to see you here Barnes. Hi Iâm Sam, Buckyâs best friend in the whole worldâ
âHi Sam, Iâm Y/nâ she shakes his hand and smiles at Bucky who sits there rolling his eyes for the umpteenth time.
âScoot over then Bucky. So how did you two meet?â
Bucky looked at Y/n to see if she was comfortable with letting him know, she just smiled. âWe met in therapyâ
âOh, are you a therapist?â
âNo, no Iâm a patientâ
âDoes it help?â
âSam!â
âWhat? Iâm just askingâ
Giggling at the two men âitâs fine Bucky, it has been helping. My therapist is really nice and understandingâ
âThatâs great. So did you two meet from group therapy or?â
âNo we actually sat next to each other in the waiting roomâ
âAw thatâs so cute!â Sam winks at her whilst Bucky grumbled under his breath.
Sam ends up convincing Bucky and Y/n in getting something to eat not that he puts up to much of a fight as both of them were hungry themselves. Once again conversation flows effortlessly, even Bucky joined in with the laughter.
After food was eaten and an argument between the three about who was going to pay - Y/n winning when the two men were still arguing over the bill - they walked her all the way to her apartment. Buckyâs heart clenched painfully seeing her front door with dried blood on it. Sam noticed too and smiled sadly at his friend.
Two whole weeks passed, in those two weeks Sam kept âbumpingâ into the pair, the three of them would walk around talking about their lives, both of the men noticing that she was very vague about her life but neither one pushed her into saying more.
Today was the day where Y/n was going to court, as she stood outside she checked her watch worrying that Bucky wasnât going to show up, not like he needed to he didnât owe her anything anyway. She turned around to head up the many steps when her names called, turning she sees Bucky running over towards her. Sam following closely behind.
âHey, hi, sorry weâre late I tried to shake this one off but heâs persist-â
âNo itâs okay, I-I really appreciate the pair of you coming today. It means so muchâ
âYouâre welcome sunshine, youâve got our supportâ Sam smiles wrapping his arms around her squeezing slightly.
âY/n? We need to go inâ her lawyer says from the large brown double doors.
Sam nods to the pair and heads up the steps, Bucky smiled âme and Sam are here for you, itâs going to be okayâ
âIâm scared about seeing him again b-but I-I can do itâ Buckyâs hand reached out to hers that shook.
âIâve got you, I promiseâ
âT-th-thank you Buckyâ
Hand in hand they head up to where Sam was waiting patiently and followed the lawyers lead into the courtroom. Buckyâs knee wouldnât stop bouncing from anger as Y/n bravely stood in the witness stand and gave her statement, hearing all the things that the bastard did to her made him want to attack him. Sam knew what was going through his friends head, honestly? He wasnât going to be far behind him.
Three hours later her ex received a ten year sentence. Bucky watched as her body relaxes by hearing the judges words. He and Sam smiles at her when she turns around, her eyes moving along the rows to find where they sat, smiling as soon as she lands on them.
After leaving the courthouse Bucky took her hand in his again and the three of them went to the restaurant that Sam had suggested, in a way to celebrate Y/nâs new found freedom. Neither one of the men mentioned about what they heard or the photos they saw in the courtroom, other than telling her that they were proud of her bravery.
Six months had passed before any of them had realised, both of the therapists were proud of seeing completely different people sitting in front of them in their sessions. Bucky opened up more and so did Y/n, not only to their therapists but to each other.
The knock on the door pulled Bucky away from his bickering with Sam as his friend argued that pineapple on pizza was nice. âIâll ask Y/n and see what she says! Hey dollâ
âHey, sorry Iâm lateâ
âYouâre not, donât worry. Hey does pineapple belong on pizza?â He asked taking her coat and hanging it up on the hook.
âIâve tried it and I like itâ she waves to Sam.
âSee! Sam I told you it was niceâ
âBut you said-â
âShut up. Sam said that it was wrong but I said it was niceâ
âNo yo-â
âSo how was your day?â Sam looked at Y/n mouthing âheâs lyingâ making her giggle, she goes on to tell them all about her day which had Bucky hanging on to every word she spoke.
Halfway through the film Sam had picked Y/n went to the bathroom, Bucky eyed Sam curiously as the latter was sitting there grinning at him. âWhat?â
âWhens the wedding?â
âWhat wedding?â
âYours and Y/nsâ
âWeâre not getting married? Why are you smiling like that?â
âIf you say so, hey when are you going to tell her you love her?â
Choking on his beer Bucky shook his head âI donât love her Samâ
âOkay, how about you telling her that youâre in love with her?â
âSam shut up.â
âNope. So when are you going to tell her?â
âIâm not going too alright. Itâs just-it doesnât matter alright just drop itâ
âDrop what?â Y/n asked walking back into the living room.
âPineapple being on pizzaâ Bucky says quickly his eyes going wide looking at Sam.
Laughing she shakes her head sitting back down next to Bucky âweâre not having this argument anymore boysâ
âTry telling him that Y/n/nâ now itâs Buckyâs turn to have a grin on his lips as Samâs eyes squint at the pair.
âSunshine has Bucky told you yet?â
âTold me what?â
âThat he loves y-â
âYogurts.â
âYou⌠love yogurts?â She asked him with her eyebrow raised, Sam struggles to contain his laughter seeing Bucky become a stuttering mess.
âYes⌠I love yogurts, problem?â
âNope no problem hereâ If Y/n wasnât snuggling into his left side Bucky would have throttled Sam.
The knock on her door startled her from the tv screen in front of her - it didnât help that she was watching a horror and that a jump scare was about to happen when the knock came.
âBucky? Hey, are you okay?â
âI-I was just in the neigh-neighbourhood a-and I thought that Iâd st-stop byâ
âYeah come in, James is everything alright?â
âYeah, w-why?â
âItâs just that youâre stuttering⌠and Iâm just worried thatâs allâ
âS-someone said something about me, it-it wasnât goodâ he admitted twisting the bottle cap from the water bottle she had gave him.
âWhat did they say?â
âIt doesnât matter, I-I just wanted to see you-you know because I was in the neighbourhoodâ
The truth was he wasnât, he had finally listened to Dr Raynors advice and go out. His plan was to go down the corner store to get some essentials in. Get in, get out that was easy and simple. He could do it. Until he heard two men who were talking clearly and loudly about him their conversation attracting the attention of others passing by them. And thatâs when he realised his second mistake that day, the first mistake being to agree to go out, the second being that he forgot his gloves. The comments were harsh and unkind.
His first response was to put his head down shoving his hands into his pockets and walk all the way to Y/nâs apartment. Even if it was a forty minute walk.
Bucky needed to see her, he didnât care if they sat in silence just as long as he was with her, he didnât care if she forced him to watch that terrible tv show.
âCome on letâs watch something and have cuddlesâ
He was safe with her. Calmer. Happier. More comfortable and relaxed.
âHave you asked her?â
âNo Samuel I havenâtâ
âWhy?â
âBecause I havenât seen her todayâ
âWhy?â
âBecause she had her session with Dr Harlowâ
âWhy?â
âSam, Iâm going to punch you in the faceâ
âWh-â
Bucky rolled his eyes and put the phone call down. He couldnât bear to hear why one more time. He was too busy going over what he was going to ask Y/n, so many things could go wrong she could say no, it would be weird as theyâve only known each other for a year now. Sheâs going to say no. Of course she is. He canât ask, he just ca-
âBuck? Open up my arms hurtâ
Buck. Buck, the name Sam was not happy about hearing slipping out of her mouth. He had tried years to call him that but always got shot down. It wasnât fair.
âBuck? Shit are you not in?â
âNo! No Iâm in doll, hi, hello, hiâ
âHi, hello, hi to you tooâ Bucky laughs taking the bags off her arms carefully, then takes them into the kitchen. A month ago Y/n moved in to his apartment with him after the landlord put up the rent making her struggle to keep paying the higher rent, Bucky caught her looking for a new place to live when he suggested her living with him, she first denied but Bucky swore and promised that he was more than happy to let her stay with him, she ended up agreeing, Bucky could have cried with happiness all night but managed to contain himself.
âDid you get everything?â
âNope, forgot absolutely everything you asked forâ sticking her tongue out at him, he laughed.
God he loves her weirdness.
âSo I- god sake Sam, hold on pretty girl. What now Sam? No I havenât. Because sheâs just walked in. Youâre so needy do you know that? Okay Iâll ask now. Yes Iâll do it whilst youâre on the phone. Y/n, do you want to come to Louisiana with Sam and I?â
âReally?â
âYeah, weâre going for a week to see his sister and nephews and we want you to come tooâ
âWill his sister mind me being there?â
âNo. So?â
âAre you guys really sure?â
âAbsolutelyâ
âO-okay, that would be niceâ
His smile doesnât just take up his face but Samâs as well âgood, good. Did you hear Sam? Okay see you laterâ chucking his phone on to the counter he turns back to Y/n. âWe leave tomorrowâ
âTomorrow? Oh god okay, Iâll go and pack nowâ
Two days later they arrive in Louisiana after both men took it in turns to drive, it was long and tiring for them but Y/n loved it. She had never been out of New York before so she was taking in the sights. When Bucky wasnât driving he would watch her from his seat, seeing her face lit up made his heart tingle.
âAre you sure she wonât mind me being here?â
âI promise, sheâs excited to meet youâ Sam reassures her as he pulls up the gravelled driveway.
Greeting his sister and nephews, Bucky doing the same Sarah turned her attention to Y/n instantly engulfing her in a warm embrace. âItâs so nice to finally meet youâ
âYou tooâ she smiled softly.
Later that night after putting their things away they all sat outside watching as the sun started to set, Sam was manning the grill and Bucky were chasing the two boys around making them squeal with laughter and excitement. Sarah and Y/n were talking when Sarah asked the woman sitting in front of her something that made her choke and splutter on her drink.
âW-we arenât to-togetherâ
âAre you sure? The way he looks at you makes me think differentlyâ
âNo, no weâre just friends. Plus he wouldnât like me soâ
âDo you like him?â
âI-yes. But I would rather have him as my friend than not have him in my lifeâ
âTell him how you feelâ
âNo I canât do that!â
âYou canâ
âNo I canâtâ
âCanât what?â Buckyâs voice comes from behind her. Sarah has to stifle her laughter as Y/ns eyes went as wide as saucers.
âI-erm nothing.â
âOkay? Hey thereâs a crab down on the beach that the boys have found, want to come and see it?â
âO-okayâ Bucky smiles and holds out his hand for her to take, helping her stand he keeps his hand in hers as they walk towards the two boys.
âIs she in love with him?â
âI think so, hopefully theyâll admit their feelings because theyâre so cute togetherâ Sarah says with her eyes trained on the two fading figures, Sam smirks before flipping the burgers.
Later that night Y/n got startled when she went into the bathroom seeing Bucky standing motionless in front of the mirror. âShit! Bucky you scared- hey are you okay?â
âI-Iâm fi-Iâm not okay Y/n/nâ Y/n moved so quickly wrapping her arms around him, both falling on the ground.
âItâs okay, itâs okayâ the sobs wracked through his body making her body shake. She kept repeating those words like a mantra.
âM-my hairâ
âYour hair? What about it?â
âI-I want it gone, please, please help me g-get rid of itâ
Her heart broke at hearing him sounding so small, in the whole year of knowing him he had always sounded so strong, and confident. Also she loved his hair and they both knew it, on nights where they cuddled up together on the couch watching movies her fingers would always end up playing with the soft strands of hair.
âA-are you sure?â feeling him nodding against her chest âokay, let me find some scissors and a clipper and Iâll do it for you okay?â Trying to stand was difficult especially since having a super soldier clinging to her. âBuck, I need to standâ
Finding the scissors was easy, it was just finding the clippers she had a difficult time coming up on. Cheering silently in triumph when she discovered them in the fourth draw. âShould we go outside so we donât wake everyone up?â
âO-okay. Leave the light on Cass is scared of the dark, Sarah leaves the bathroom light on for himâ Bucky whispered wrapping both of his hands around her free one.
Outside with only the porch light illuminating them, Y/n started cutting his hair the shorter it got the more Bucky started to relax. When it came to trimming his hair Buckyâs left arm reached around to tug on her waist, bringing her around to stand in between his legs, he smiled shyly up at her. Without thinking she leaned down as she placed her lips to his forehead. His arms snaked around the back of her legs squeezing lightly.
âI-itâs done, maybe Sam can fix it up later if itâs bad?â
âI bet y-you did a good jobâ
âWould you be mad if I said you had a massive bald spot right on the top of your head?â
He laughed and shook his head âno I wonât be madâ
âItâs a good job that there isnât one isnât there?â
âY/n, thank you, i-it means a lot to me. Thank youâ
âYou donât need to thank me. D-do you want to talk about what happened?â
âIt was a nightmare. Just about my pastâ leading her over to the hammock on that swayed ever so lightly from the night breeze. âT-they did bad things to me, made me do worseâ
âIâm here if you want to talk about itâ she says squeezing his hand.
âThey made me kill people, even when I completed the mission to their satisfaction they would still punish me and I never knew why. The chair was the worst, I-I did what I was told to do and I was still punished.â
Looking at the water he breathed deeply, he was about to tell her something to no one else knew, not even his therapist. âI-Iâve wanted to end my life since coming back from Wakanda b-b-but not since I met you I swear!â
âOh Buckâ
âIt was easier to end it you know? But I couldnât do it, I needed to try and make up for all the damage I caused.â
âBucky it was-â
âIt was though, wasnât it? It was me the whole timeâ
âIt wasnât. Bucky you wasnât in control of your own mind, your a good man, an incredible man - donât scoff at me mister - you are, if you donât believe me think about Sarah, even though I donât know her all that well she seems to have a good sense of judgement, do you really think that she would let you be around her babies if she thought you was a bad person?â
Thinking her words over he had to agree with her words about Sarah even Sam wouldnât let him anywhere near his sister and his nephews. Hell Tony wouldnât have allowed him near his wife or daughter if they believed he was the monster that he still believed he was. âY-youâre rightâ
Now it was her turn to think over the words from Sarah earlier that night. It was most likely going to blow up in her face and she was going to lose him as a friend forever but maybe just maybe Sarah could be right. âI wouldnât have fallen in love with you if you were a bad person Buckâ
The silence that followed was killing her. She should have just kept her mouth shut.
He however couldnât believe his ears. Surely she was playing a trick on him. There was no way this perfect angel as he always described her would ever feel the same way as him. Surely.
âIâm sorry Bucky, I-Iâll go n-â
He cuts her off by pressing his lips against hers. The kiss was soft, timid at first before they both gained their confidence their tongues dancing a slow dance together. Pulling away reluctantly Bucky leans his forehead against hers, both smiling widely at each other.
âIâm in love with you tooâ he whispered.
Nothing else was said. Nothing else was needed to be said.
Sam walks on to the porch with his hot cup of coffee that morning, his feet faltering when he sees Bucky and Y/n curled up together on the hammock fast asleep. Pulling his phone out he took a photo of the pair before running back into the house showing Sarah the photo.
As soon as they were back in New York Bucky asked Y/n out on a date, then another and another until he asked her to be his girlfriend. And soon enough she had moved into his room with him.
The first time she saw him topless was when he came out of the bathroom wearing grey joggers, he thought she was still in the living room. He heard the quiet gasp, he looked up to see her standing there and his stomach dropped.
âY/n-â
âYour body⌠did the gods sculpt you? I-is that, two, four, six yep thatâs an eight pack, how do you get an eight pack?â
Hearing her words he blushed with a little chuckle. âT-the scars-â
âBeautifulâ
âDonât lie to meâ
âI would never lie to you Buck, everything about you is beautifulâ
That night they made love for the first time, each of them taking their time in admiring the scars that littered their bodies. The second she pressed her lips delicately against the rough, raised patch where skin meets metal he honestly thought his heart was going to stop beating.
âŃŃ ĐźĐžĐš ŃпаŃиŃоНŃ, did you know that?â he whispered one night placing kisses on her bare shoulder.
âWhat does that mean?â
âŃŃ ĐźĐžĐš ŃпаŃиŃоНŃ?â
âYeahâ
âIt means⌠your smellyâ
âNo it doesnâtâ she laughs.
âNo your right, it means youâre my saviourâ
âBuck-â
âYou are Y/n/n, youâve saved me youâve made me happier than Iâve ever been before a-and I know I wouldnât still be here if it wasnât for youâ
âIâll be with you until you want me to leaveâ
âSo neverâ he laughed, pulling her body even closer to his. âI love you Y/n/nâ
âI love you too Buckâ
Bucky wished Steve was still around so he could talk to him about things. He wish that his best friend was still there so he could tell the blond about how nervous he was. He imagined Steveâs reaction as he fixed his tie for the ninth time within five minutes.
A year had passed, on their year anniversary Bucky got down on one knee and proposed, three months later he was standing in the spare bedroom of Sarahâs house in his suit as Sarah helped Y/n with her dress.
He really wished Steve was there to see him marrying his love.
A month before marrying both Sam and Bucky retired, both men tired of the bloodshed and nightmares. Sam told Bucky that he was going to move down to Louisiana, he even brought up a business proposal, Bucky had to admit it did sound tempting he promised Sam that he would run it by Y/n.
âSamâs moving closer to Sarah, you know now that weâve retired.â
âOh, rightâ
âHe erm he brought up a proposal to go into business together-â
âDid you say yes? Please tell me you said yes!â
âWhy? Do you want to move to Louisiana?â
âYes! I mean I knew Sam was going to move back there so I may or may not have been looking at houses down thereâŚâ
Sam cheered loudly down the phone when Bucky rang him to tell him that they were coming too.
âYou ready Bucky?â Sam asked popping his head around the door.
âYeah, yeah Iâm readyâ
Bucky faltered walking out of the house only expecting to see AJ, Cass and Roy - the man who was going to be marrying them - but yet all the people Y/n and himself had befriended over the two years they had been going to Louisiana, had showed up to watch them become one.
Being announced as husband and wife had their hearts doing a double take. They were married and neither one could believe it. And neither one could wipe the smile off their faces.
âŃŃ ĐźĐžĐš ŃпаŃиŃоНŃ⌠wait did I pronounce any of that right?â She panicked as they slow danced to the live music from a local band.
âDi-did you learn that just for me?â
âYesâ she giggled âso did I say it correctly?â
âYes you did ПОК ŃпаŃиŃоНŃâ
The celebration went on well into the night.
** present time **
âBuck?â
âHuh?â
âDid you just hear what I said?â Y/n looks up at him lightly nibbling on her bottom lip looking nervously.
Of course he had heard the words that came out of her mouth but those exact words made him think about how they met, and how far they both had come from being complete strangers who met in the waiting room of their therapist building to now being a happily married couple whose love continued to grow as the days passed.
âI did, but tell me again, pleaseâ
Oh how he canât wait to tell his best friend Sam the news he had just received.
Taking his hands in hers she placed them on her still flat stomach and smiled.
âYouâre going to be a dad.â

Why Leona Gave Himself The Bad Ending
Leona Kingscholar Analysis
Usual disclaimer to say that these are just my thoughts and you donât have to feel pressured to agree. This was my thought process as I played through the parts of Chapter 7 Parts 212-226, featuring Leonaâs dream triggered by Malleusâs magic.
--
I wanna start off by saying that I believe all the dreams are a mixture of Malleusâs magic and the dreamers themselves.Â
Idia theorized that Malleus is sort of âsetting up the parametersâ in a way, then each of the dreamers' personalities and imaginations affect the dream in different ways. The emphasis of this has been brought by Idia several times that itâs the strength of imagination that determines how complex dreams are. Which is maybe why in the first years dreams seem so basic? Theyâre young, their magical abilities are still new, and their magic is no match for Malleusâs magic. That and, to be fair, most of the first years donât have the same amount of angst and turmoil as some of the other second years and third years have.
With that being said, I believe that because of his high intelligence, magical prowess, and his hyper-vigilance, that is the main reason Leonaâs dream was soâŚdifferent than the others.
But let's get into it!
There are a lot of Lion King references in this dream, and itâs very clear the writers wanted to play around and show this off. I feel like they did a good job of integrating the themes of the movie into Leona's dream. It does give me a little validation as I feel Leonaâs struggles and personality are closely linked to his great Seven Counterpart, Scar. More so than any of the other overblotters. When I analyze Leona I sometimes I do use Scar as a starting point to understand his intentions.
This is how I came to the conclusion long ago that being king would never make Leona happy because it's not what he truly wants.
We start with the dream back in the Sunset Savanna. Itâs VERY interesting to see that there is hyena prejudice right off the bat as a woman flees from Ruggie while he attempts to buy food.Â
Right off, everyone can tell something isâŚoff about the city. Especially coming fresh from Ruggieâs dream where everything was idyllic and happy for hyenas BECAUSE of Leona.
Grim hits us with the: âI laugh in the face of danger!â line. We even get the three hyenas referenced and the âlove for you to stick around for dinnerâ line. The once proud lioness-dominated palace guard has been taken over by hyena âruffiansâ (interesting choice to portray a disenfranchised group being given jobs as the new guard as a negative thing, but moving on.)
The first interesting thing we get is that the palace is somewhat rundown and empty? The group makes comments of how dark and dreary it is, and how few people are around. Is there an implication that the servants fled at some point after Leona became King or did he replace them? This further shows me that Leona for whatever reason has chosen to isolate himself. To me, it's most likely that he already feels isolated by his country and those in the palace.
From the looks of it âMalleusâs magicâ has given Leona the one thing he has always wanted, but has he? Leona seems less than thrilled and genuinely upset by the fact his whole family is...gone. As I mentioned in my Leona relationships post, I think that he holds a complex relationship with his family, and while he resents them, in no way can I see him wanting them to be dead.Â
Itâs now I started to think that Leonaâs magic was overriding the simple âlet them eat cakeâ logic of all of the happier dreams. This dream feels TOO real, dark, dreary, andâŚsad. Could it be Leonaâs intelligence or cynicism, ruining whatâs supposed to be an idyllic scenario?
Why is even in his WILDEST dreams Leona is still miserable?
Hmm.
A lot of people have talked about Kifaji and their thoughts on his presence. Itâs strange to see people praise him as âa loving parental figureâ as if heâs really there trying to help Leona. But, Kifaji is not there. This Kifaji is a manifestation of Leonaâs mind and Iâll get to why thatâs interesting and what I think he represents. Remember, that often in other dreams weâve seen of loved ones or rivals and they can act normal, out of character, or even cruel. Vil and Neigie come to mind and Neige turned out to be the blot keeping Vil asleep.
Kifaji is a bit different. He actively tries to help the group wake Leona as opposed to encouraging the twisted dream logic. For this reason, to me, Kifaji represents Leonaâs conscious and the Dream!Leona we see represents his shadow self, like the dark side of the moon. AKA, the Leona we meet in Chapter 2. In fact, this whole dream feels like a rehash of Chapter 2.
We get the outdated Leona that dumbs himself down and settles for less, cloaking himself in his pride and believing that everyone is below him. An idle king while he lets others do his dirty work. (Scar basically.)
Leona asks Kifaji to sing (another Lion King reference) and it plays out how you would think. Leona tells Kifaji that he is the only competent person in the kingdom. And he argues that the kingdom is in shambles, not because of his choices as King, but because everyone else sucks basically.
Hmm.Â
Kifaji reminds Leona that while he is clever and his plans are grand, that he can not treat people like human chess pieces. (Can I just say I love when chess is brought up to us because I find that when people analyze Leona or his thoughts they often forget how much he uses chess to process his thoughts. We saw that plenty in the Tamashina Mina event!) I think it helps him sort his thoughts and emotions which he can have a hard time doing.
I think Kifaji represents Leonaâs mindset post Chapter 2 and because Kifaji in his real life is one of the only people who probably stands up to Leona, he has placed him in this antagonist role in his mind. (but not really) Plus, itâs not far off from Kifajiâs actual treatment of Leona in the Tamashina Mina event.
So yeah, Leona acts more like he does in Chapter 2âhe's the player or the king even and everyone else around is just lowly pieces.
Just like the scene from The Lion King, Scar and Leona are not happy. Even though they are supposedly getting their deepest desire, they remain bitter andâŚalone.Â
When I first began to read into Leona it was quite obvious to me that the whole âIâll never be king" thing was just a front for something else. What I think Leona truly craves is approval and acceptance.
Being king, especially of a broken kingdom that despises him, will never make him happy. But, why do the people not love him? This is supposed to be a fantasy right?
There is this interesting layer of how he became king too. Instead of Cheka or Falena simply not existing, like I thought it might be, they are dead. That isâŚso much more tragic than it needed to be. As if deep down Leona believes the only way he can become king (his dreams to come true) is if tragedy happens. This reminds me of his bitter view/the symbolism of his unique magic. That he can only bring misery wherever he goesâeverything he touches turns to sand.Â
I also think that Leona is afraid of failing and much of this dream is his anxieties and insecurities that linger from all his past failures.
Though interestingly enough, I sense that in the dream, as implied later by Idia, Leona has implemented an âover-exaggerationâ of his policies and plans for the kingdom. It was almost like he purposely ran his resources dry and gave up trying to compromise with anyone for the sake of âprogress.â
Why, though?
Itâs very masochistic in a way. Itâs almost like he wanted to prove himself right. Everything he touches will turn to sand eventually and his grand plans will fail even if he claims they are âperfect.â
Thatâs why this dream is probably the most masochistic and self-deprecating we have seen. I think what initially began to draw me to Leonaâs character is because of the hidden pain he holds. He is by far one of the most easygoing, and lackadaisical acting of the cast, butâŚhe cares, he cares so, so much about how he is perceived and his haunted by his hopelessness about his future and the failures of his past.
I think the pain of never feeling good enough, causes his mind to be unable to âplay niceâ with Malleusâs dream magic to even manifest any sort of positive future. One where he holds a position he wants AND is loved and respected. itâs just impossible that he could ever have that, even in his wildest dreams.Â
Heâs too much of a ârealist.â
Side tangent, but a frustrating take is to see was the: âOh yeah, see? He would have sucked as king.â tinged comments after this came out.
 I think itâs more complicated than that.Â
This isnât me trying to defend him necessarily, but to be fair, all dreams tend to be over exaggerations by the dreamer. Plus, I think the fact that Ruggie HATES Leona in this dream and is suddenly in favor of Falena, is a sign right there we can not trust Leonaâs interpretation of the people he knows in his dream. He is sort of an unreliable narrator that way.Â
Besides, like in The Lion King, why would all the water dry up, just because the hyenas over-hunted?Â
A big theme in Lion King and even The Lion Guard TV show is "the balance of nature." The blight upon the Pridelands when Scar takes over feels more like symbolism of the âunbalance of natureâ caused by the tragedy of Mufasaâs death. Which makes me again, connect that Leona feels the only way he can succeed is by inflicting misery on others. Like his magic, perhaps a part of him believes he is a curse.Â
I theorized in my Tamashina Mina review, that maybe Leona feels like an outcast himself, and the separation he feels from his country is showcased in how he blames the citizens for the decline of the kingdom, rather than his plans. He feels isolated from them.
By this point, I was having flashbacks to Chapter 2, where he got a whiff of his plan failing and he still pushed through even though he knew it would fail. At first, he may have started doing okay as king, but maybe when he came upon too many obstacles or pushback, He just gave up. Because he was not instantly loved by the people, who probably already feared him, heâd rather not even try. Suddenly, they are ânot worth his timeâ, and he canât help them because they suck.
Leonaâs problem has always been his pride. I think he has to put it aside to genuinely help people reach their potential and learn to collaborate with others more. Part of how this dream plays out, is him realizing that maybe some criticisms Kifaji had about his pride all along may be true. Leona refuses to play nice with others.Â
Thatâs why I think Kifaji represents a more sensible and lucid Leona. He is in a sense, talking to his past self, and trying to shake himself from the dream and his outdated ideals.
Ortho even points out that Ruggie is not really the Ruggie we know but rather a part of Leonaâs imagination. Again, which puts emphasis on how the characters in his dream are more indicative of his mindset as opposed to being âin characterâ. Maybe Ruggie hating him in his dream is his inner anxieties about him and Ruggie post Chapter 2 fallout. He feels like Ruggie could never forgive him for what he did. He let him down. And Leona being bad with people and feelings, doesnât know the proper way to apologize.
Kifaji (woke Leona) says that the state of the kingdom is a result of him âpursuing efficiency over all things and disregarding other people's feelings.â It really feels like he is calling himself out here. Does he REALLY wanna help people? Or is it just Leonaâs selfish pride who wants attention for just being smart?
Dream!Leona complains about the protesters interrupting his nap which is another sign for me of the exaggeration of the scenario of Leona being the king. Like...did he not criticize Falena for having the same carefree and laid-back attitude? And yet here he is...complacent in the same behavior he once criticized Falena of.Â
Interesting.
Ortho mentions that Leonaâs dream is clearly a more complex situation than the other dreams.
I think there is a key implication we are missing here too, that I havenât seen many mention. There is a throwaway line that Jack mentions that Leona has not attended school and is king instead. And he doesn't seem to know Dream!Ruggie either. Nor Ruggie him.
There is no doubt his time at NRC has shaped him to be the Leona we know now. Someone who has at least somewhat benefited with the connections he made at school. It does seem like this Dream!Leona is regressed. And because he never attended school, he is a much colder person who has no regard for others' feelings at all. He is even more socially inept.
I feel like this is a common theme to show us that despite the independent nature of most of the students at NRC, that it can still be âthe friends we made along the way.â trope. These connections do matter and especially to Leona. He mentions this in his post-overblot monologue in the light novel. He found his pack at NRC. This time with his dorm members affected his personality for the better. It's kinda sweet when you think about it!
Ortho mentions Dream!Leona appears DEEPLY absorbed in the delusions of his dream. This means that even though he has the lucid failsafe of Kifaji, Leonaâs self-deprecation, despair, and pain are still overtaking his logic. That's what's crafted this nightmare. (And he later references it as such.)Â
Everyone acknowledges that he canât possibly be happy and looks EVEN MORE miserable than at school. It can't be a silly happy fantasy, but a grim dark reality of what he thinks of himself.Â
That's why he gave himself the bad ending.
I love the double entendre of Idia saying Leona is building his dream like a âsandboxâ game. Lots of Minecraft references. (Leona Minecrafter confirmed? Or hear me outâŚLeona playing King Crusaders or Civilization V FGHJ)
Anyways, Idia or Ortho, (I forget) suggests that perhaps he has run out of âsimulationsâ for his dream playthrough. And being an intelligent person his mind tends to overthink naturally and this caused his dream to have a more realistic tone. Plus, I theorize that because Leona is powerful and his intelligent, his magic and imagination was almost able to overwrite Malleus's, a standard happy dream formula.
Ortho suggests Leona chose a more ârealistic mode âon purpose.â Perhaps like I theorized earlier, it is almost a masochistic test to see if he could have everything he wanted? Leona is a very analytical person who enjoys games. It makes sense, the way he often plays chess alone to practice âstrategies.â But as I mentioned before, I think he just genuinely believes it's not possible. Ortho mentions he thinks Leonaâs the type to understand that an âaggressive urban developmentâ would come with risks.
Jack asks âIf Leona knew this was a bad plan then why would he make the citizens suffer and be hated?â (Sheesh, now we know Leona really is the type to play pretend and get a lil too real with it.)
Ruggie adds that Leona may be âdoing something he knows he shouldn't be on purpose.â Like maybe he did it to be dastardly and maybe he just wanted to âfeel the rushâ of being a ruthless and hated king.
When Azul asks Ruggie if he thinks Leona takes pleasure in immoral things he says that he can't say for sure, only that he is a prince that no doubt can take pleasure in âbad thingsâ.
To me, however, it feels like a masochistic move to prove to himself his happiness is unattainable.Â
Then Sebek chimes in: âHow could he go so far to kill his family only to abandon his responsibilities as a king and become a horrible one?"
No one seems to know for sure. Everyone in the group has their theories but the consensus in the group is that - nobody fuckinâ knows why this guy intricately carved himself such a miserable fantasy for himself. Very masochistic for a guy who appears to be so proud huh?
Idia continues to mention that Leonaâs imagination is so vast compared to everyone else's. It fills out a whole âworldâ completely and the mechanics of this world must make sense. He's playing on hard mode. In Leonaâs brain this seemed to manifest as if he is to âget what he wantsâ it can't be serendipitous or through triumph, IT MUST be through tragedy.
Can we lighten up a little?
Again, he may have started to do âgood workâ but quickly realized that keeping up with all to create a perfect kingdom was waaaay over his head. Maybe he was afraid to give it his all, because he knew everyone would still hate him anyway.
Another reason I think Leona thrives better as a âbig fish in a small pondâ so to speak. Like his dorm leader role where he can interact directly with his cute (this man used this word a lot for some reason) froshes, make tangible make things better for a small group or community.Â
But as we saw, even with his dorm Leona began to feel overwhelmed with the pretty promises he made to his underclassmen in Chapter 2 about the Spelldrive tournament. He likeâŚwants to be wanted but heâs terrified of people actually relying on him, because trying your best and then failing anyways is the most painful thing to him. His instinct when he gets too frustrated with something is to act like he never cared about it in the first place or anyone. AKA âI did everything right and it's THE REST OF YOU who are incompetent.â
Thatâs why I personally think that in the future Leona working within a small community might be a better fit for him, using his skills to see potential in others as a way to connect with them and teach them how to thrive.Â
So yeah, needless to say the group is stumped on analyzing Leonaâs intentions and Azul hilariously notes that Leona is justâŚa complicated person.Â
What an understatement.
The group hatches a silly plan to have Ruggie puppet a Cheka hologram and yeah obviously it didnât work.
This is where it started to get interesting again.
Dream!Kifaji said heâs been âwaiting for the day Leona would wake up from his bad dreamâ and joins the fight against him to wake him. Itâs like Leona telling himself that it's time to let his original dream go.
Ortho is surprised Kifaji is on their side, that he should be the darkness pulling Leona back in, but like I mentioned I think Kifaji is actually a âfail safeâ Leona created to stay lucid or...maybe the little bit of hope he has fostered now that he has grown from Chapters 2âs events.
Since Kifaji is the one to normally call him out, maybe he's Leonaâs way of processing his relationship with him. And that maybeâŚsometimes as annoying as Kifaji is, he has a point. Kifaji is the one who is implied to have raised him after all, so it's no surprise Leona sees him in a father-like role more than his own father.
âNo one understands me, it's not my fault.â Leona laments running away, running away from himself.
Reminds me a lot of Chapter 2 Leona where he began to feel sorry for himself instead of actually trying to fix things. It's clear that no matter how smart and mature Leona isâŚis that he still has a lot of growing to do. And that his relationship with his family and country are complex. There is not a black and white or good and bad with this situation and I feel like this is important when talking about him and his relationships with his family.
He was very much ostracized and probably neglected to some extent by his real parents but at a certain point, Leona decided to give up on improving himself just because he didn't achieve the results he wanted to. It's one of his biggest flaw.
His complacency is what drags him further into the darkness. Not Kifaji.
Sitting and stewing in his despair and how unfair his life has been instead of reaching out. Rehashing all thise chess strategies alone on his chess board until his brain hurts. Making grandiose plans instead of actually working hard toward a realistic goal.Â
The idle king. A king with naught. (Nothing.)
I am now realizing that in a way (because Ruggie and Leona are so similar) Jack is Leonaâs foil; he is the determined and earnest one who admires Leona at his best. He still holds the innocence and the idealism of working hard.
The group jumped through the darkness with Leona and we are replaying the events of Chapter 2 once again.
Ruggie and Jack watch it go down in dismay. Ruggie addresses that he once did think Leonaâs way of thinking/plan was good and itâs cool to see he clearly regrets it now too.
They watch the drama play out as if Leonaâs plan in Chapter 2 actually succeeded and see that he craves more. More ways for Savanaclaw to get ahead by unsavory means.
Jack says even if Leona becomes king there will be no end to his dissatisfaction. BOOM, there it is.
That is why Chapter 2 is so mind boggling. Leonaâs whole speech was about being king and second. But itâs clear now, it's not what he truly wants. I think Leona is afraid to admit what he really wants. Because that takes vulnerability and then comes the possibility of being rejected.
Jack also notes that, despite Leona getting âeverything he wantedâ he seems more grumpier and dissatisfied than usual.
âLeona is not your King, hesâ our Dorm Leader,â Jack growls. They fight and we get a nice callback to Lion King here. âRemember who you are.â
As Leona wakes up from his dreams he straight up says, yeah the scheme from Chapter 2 wasâŚstupid. (Nice.)
Oh and we finally get some acknowledgement that Ruggie feels like Leona abandoned him in Chapter 2 which SHEEEEEEEESH. This is a deep cut for me, considering Ruggieâs real dad abandoned him. And it really confirms the fact he sees Leona as a father/big brother figure.
But, Leona doesn't, he sacrifices himself for Ruggie as the whole group tries to escape the crumbling dream. And while Ruggie cries out for Leona, Leona goes down smirking not knowing what will happen to him.
Itâs time for him to face himself, his blot monster.
Blot!Leona wants them dead, all of them. Cheka, Falena, everyone. The real Leona finds it kind of pathetic. Because, in reality, I don't think Leona hates Cheka or Falena and he doesn't want to be alone anymore.
Leona admits to his blot that yeah, no he canât do the job. He canât be king. And instead of it being a negative itâs more a relief? Maybe he is incompetent too. He is addressing himself and his previous grandiose illusions. He hasnât done anything worthy of being king.
However, he will not give up. Heâs finally living up to Savanaclawâs motto of perseverance (which he sorta laughed off in Chapter 2?)
This next part is what struck me the most because. He just lays it out so simply, finally saying it out loud.
Self awareness!! Like he finally said it!! (And I felt very vindicated in this moment, NGL)Â
What he desires most is the approval of others.
Ah, and Blot!Leona responds with the fact he can't earnestly try, it's too painful to think of failing. Props for Leona acknowledging his flaws! Just like with the other overblotters. But I'm especially floored here because of how PRIDEFUL he is all the time.
In order to have better relationships with people, he has to leave that whole âthey all hated meâ shit behind. Because in reality, there are people who care for him despite his flaws. There are those who look up to him and admire him, for him.
But, the idea of that I think is soâŚcrazy to him that he tends to deny its very existence. Then when he is genuinely complimented on his leadership or whatever skills he brushes it off.
He calls himself disgusting which feels kinda sad but itâs proof he has moved on from his previous way of things. What did I say earlier? Leona is afraid of failure.Â
Giving being a king a earnest optimistic go is too painful for him because ultimately he is afraid of failing. Like he was happier to play the role of tyrannical king than to bother to build relations with the citizens of his kingdom.
As his blot self withers away itâs almostâŚsad compared to the previous blot monster showdowns weâve seen. It mentions something about âhis friendsâ (A reference to Scarâs final words.) like heâs reaching out for Leona so it's not alone anymore. And Leona almost embraces his monster? Itâs clear he feels pity for this thingâŚhim. His pain, his depression, his loneliness. Maybe a step in the way of self-love? He acknowledges (almost as to soothe it) that it will always be with him, clawing from inside. Except now, he wonât give up.
He vows that he will get what he wants one day, for both of them. Heâll have his âown throne and prideâ instead of wanting for someone elseâs. Heâll find his place to belong through his own merit.
It reminds me of that expression âfind your own tribeâ which is an expression that those who are not close to heirt families understand all too well. He wants to find satisfaction outside his desire to rule and maybe because we know he prefers NRC to home, this confirms his fondness for his dorm life. (Savanaclaw found a family dorm.)
When he returns to his original dream of being king Kifaji is there as they look on at Pride Rock. The fact that it is raining is telling that hope has returned. (Just like at the end of Lion King) and that by accepting that âbeing kingâ is not what he really wants now âall things are balanced againâ.
They have a nice moment here. Leona acknowledging that he has been given the tools to do good things by Kifajiâs training is a big mature moment for him. (Especially how they acted toward one another in the Tamashina Mina event)Â And Kifaji praising him, since this a dream, could be a testament to what he wishes would happen between them.
AKA Leona finally feels more, âat peaceâ with himself.
As Leona destroys this false kingdom with his sand he seems reserved, itâs almost bittersweet as it all settles over him, his new found aspirations, letting the old ones go. He's letting the past go. A big theme in Lion King. (I really feel the writers must be fans of the movies.)Â
Kifaji says: âGo to the place you really belong.â
This line kinda got me. Because the implication is that Night Raven College and his dorm is where he really belongs. Leona is confirming that his experiences at NRC have shaped who he is SO MUCH.Â
For years he accepted his life as it was, a cage, and now he is acknowledging that he has the power to break that cage and do whatever he wants. Itâs a great callback to the advice he gave Jamil in Chapter 6.
This is quite refreshing as he mentioned before that it was too âlate for himâ. Now, he realizes it isnât.
Back with the gang, Ruggie admits his fear that Leona will abandon him again. Leona denies it, and says somewhat casually that he is in fact a true friend of his. This feels like a clever inversion of the line that Scar says to the hyenas about being his âfriends.âÂ
But, we know now that Leona does mean it now. And this shows Leonaâs desire to finally stray from the âpathâ of his Great Seven counterpart and actually likeâŚhave friends?
The reunion of the Savanaclaw trio is actually really sweet. For a dorm full of cocky jocks with strong personalities they seem to be so genuinely happy to be reunited.
Jack bursting out into tears and crying got me tearing up. Like Ruggie and Leona clearly are bit more reserved in their emotions but we see Savanaclaw really are close, despite their disagreements. They care for one another as a dysfunctional little family.Â
As a dorm that doesn't get much mainstream attention compared to others it was so nice to have this little moment. It's hard to tell, but Iâm 99% sure there was a group hug based on how the sprites moved and the sound effects. At least a nice back pat from Leona. (Thanks, dad.)Â
All in all, I really...enjoyed his dream section. As someone who is pretty hyper-critical, for the most part, it satisfied most of the things I wanted to feel. I even got emotional at a few points! Yes, it would have been nicer to spend more time with âkingâ Leona and dive into it more. Or get more lore about his family. But, he admitted it FINALLY, everything I have clocked about him all those years ago. Itâs very satisfying to see his growth in a tangible straightforward way, instead of just me reading between the lines.
I hope we will continue to see even more growth with his character (Like we did in the Halloween event)Â and Iâm excited to see the role he will play in the rest of Chapter 7, even if itâs just him being a cranky old man. (What do you expect he was raised by one?)
I'd like to end this with some positivity. As someone who deep dives into character stuff a lot I know it's really comforting to see part of yourself reflected back in your favorite characters.
To anyone reading who feels they have things in common with Leona or his despair, the truth is that you should keep going, even if it's just to spite the world itself.
Your vision and presence in this world are valid all on their own and that failing is not indicative of your value as a person. It never will be.
Keep fighting to find your place, your pack and never forget who you are.đ

You can feel the strong muscles of her shoulders clench as she doubles down on her movements, making a moan rip from your mouth. Vi smirks against your cunt, one hand caressing your thigh as the other continues to put pressure on your hips.Â
Loris had told you Viâs fight tonight had been harder than usual and that he was worried sheâd do something stupid.Â
âWhy donât you go check on her then?â
âI tried. She told me to fuck off.â
You chuckled, shaking your head.
âSheâll listen if you go. Sheâs got a soft spot for you.â
That was true. You didnât know why but Vi seemed to take your advice quite seriously. Youâd met her a couple of weeks ago. You were dancing at one of the bars when she stumbled in, completely shitfaced. Sheâd bumped into you, causing you to spill your drink all over yourself. Most people would have taken one look at Vi and let it go. But not you.
 Oh no, not you.Â
You marched right up to her, tapping her on her leather clad shoulder. She turned to face you, eyes falling on your angered expression.Â
âYou owe me a drink.â
Vi sighed, hand moving to rub at her eyes. She just wanted a quiet night out.
âDo I know you?â
The annoyance was clear in her tone but you didnât back down.Â
âNo you donât. But that didnât stop you from crashing into me like some drunken sailor.â
Vi couldnât help but smirk. You were feisty for your size. People normally went the other way when they saw her coming but not you. You walked your cute butt right in her direction. She couldnât help but be amused. Vi turned to the bartender ordering a glass of her favorite beer, before turning to face you again.
âWhat you having princess?â
From that night on you became a constant in Viâs life. You went to all her fights, intensely shouting the whole time as she ploughed through her opponents. When she won you would take her out for a drink, oftentimes dragging her to the dance floor with you. She didnât really care for dancing but she made the sacrifice for you. When she lost you were the one you would drag her back to her bed, ignoring her mumbles and aggravated words. Sheâd tell you to fuck off and you tell her to go fuck herself right back. Not many people could handle Vi the way you did and even if she didnât say it she was grateful for you.Â
You had told Lois youâd check on the pink haired girl. Heâd given you a grateful look and warned you that she would probably be wound up because of her last fight. He had been right. The second you stepped into her room you could feel the tension in the air. The place was filled with the sound of Vi hitting her punching bag with all her might. You walked in, taking a glance at the broken mirror before moving to sit down on her makeshift bed. You picked at your nails as you waited for Vi to finish ragging.Â
âI already told Loris to fuck off.â
âWell I'm not Loris am i?â
You gave Vi a girn which she didnât return. She gave the bag one last good punch before letting out a defeated sigh.
âCome here.â
âPrincess iâm really not-â
âViolet come here.â
Vi raised her head to look up at you. Your tone was commanding but she knew you meant nothing by it. You just wanted her to shut up and let you help her out. She sighed, dragging her feet on the floor as she walked over to you. You moved so that she could sit next to you.Â
âYou wanna tell me whatâs up orâŚâ
âI donât want to talk about it.â
You frowned slightly at her dismissive tone but you knew to respect her wishes. There was a lot about Vi you didnât know about. You hadnât known her for a long time but even so youâd grown attached to her fairly quickly. That didn't mean she told you everything but something about the way she behaved told you sheâd been hurt a lot during her life. You wanted to be there for her. A shoulder to lean on when things got hard. Vi turned to face you, her eyes meeting yours. She placed a hand on your cheek.
âDistract me princess?â
âSure Vi.â
Vi moved to sit down on the floor in front of you. You knew exactly what she wanted. You widen your legs, allowing her to slot her body against you. Your hands went to her hair, caressing her locks. Vi sighed as your hands massaged her scalp. She didnât know how you did it but this always managed to remove all the tension in her body. It was such a simple act but it helped wonders. Your hands began to become stained with black as you continued your caress. Itâs not like you minded though. You would just wash the grime off when you finished up. Vi sighed, her head moving to rest on your thigh. Your eyes fidgeted to the tattoo on the back of her neck. You always wondered if it had hurt a lot. You thought of asking Vi but something caught your attention. Viâs lips were close to your thigh. She wasnât doing anything, but the thought of her lips on your skin made you shiver. The truth was that you had a thing for Vi. The night youâd met you had expected to hate her but youâd been surprised. You had a crush on Vi and no intention of telling her.
Until now that is.
Vi felt your muscles become rigid for a moment. She could feel your fingers tense against her hair, causing her to raise her head. She turned to look at you. You stared down at her, your heart beating faster at the sight of her between your legs. Vi put a hand on your leg which didnât help at all.
âEverything ok princess?â
Gosh she sounded so hot, her voice scratching against her throat due to all the screaming sheâd done hours prior. Your face flushed, your body raising abruptly to stand. The action caused Viâs face to be directly in front of your crotch and you almost fainted. The pink haired girl cocked her head to the side, brows furring at your odd behavior. She opened her mouth to speak but paused when her eyes caught onto something. There was a wet patch on your pants. It was barely there and the fabric of your shorts hid it well but the angle she was looking up at you made it very clear. Viâs mouth went dry for a moment.Â
After everything that had happened with Caitlyn she had stopped thinking about a lot of things. Sex wasnât something that was on her mind a lot. Sheâd hardly get horny lately but the realisation that you were standing in her room, your wet cunt inches from her face made something snap inside her.Â
You hadn't registered that Vi knew what was happening, far too focused on slowing your heartbeat to notice the gears turning in Viâs head. You felt her hand wrap around your thigh, making your head snapp down to look at her. Viâs pupils were incredibly dilated, she licked her bottom lip absentmindedly, not knowing how the action affected you.Â
âNeed a little help with this?â
She nodded her head at your crotch and you swore you could die of embarrassment. You unlatched yourself from her grip stumbling against her bed as you tried to move away from her.Â
âIâm sorry I didn't mean to. You were so close and I just started thinking about the feeling ofâŚâ
Vi rose from the floor, watching as you struggled to make full sentences. Sheâd never seen you this flushed before, you were usually very confident around her. The thought that she could manage to make you this flustered thrilled her more than she had anticipated.Â
âHey.â
Viâs voice made you look up from the floor, eyes moving against her features. She placed her hand on your cheek, slowly inching herself closer to you. Her knee slipped between your legs and you let out a whine. Vi smiled, her face mere inches from yours.
âNothing to be ashamed of, princess.â
She moved her leg up putting more pressure against your pussy. Your hand latched onto her shoulder, nails digging into the muscles as you gasped.Â
âSo. Do you want my help or not?â
âYou donât have to.â
âI know.â
You could feel Viâs breath against your lips as she spoke.
âI want to.â
You couldnât take this anymore. Your body launched forward, lips crashing into Viâs in a desperate kiss. You bit into her lip causing her to groan against your mouth. Vi grabbed at your hips, tugging you up. You wrapped your legs around her waist. She placed a hand on the back of your waist as the other moved to give your ass a squeeze. You gasped against her lips, allowing her to slip her tongue inside your mouth. Her boots clanged against the floor as she walks both of you over to her makeshift bed. She sinks down to her knees, placing you down on the edge of the bed as she continues to attack your mouth. You let out a content sigh as she moved to kiss your neck.Â
âVi iâŚâ
âYeah?â
She hasnât even touched you yet and your voice already sounds so fucked out. It makes pride swell into her chest. Your hands grip at her locks tugging them slightly. She detaches her lips from your collarbone at the action, blue eyes gazing up at you.
âYou gonna keep teasing or are you gonna help me out?â
âBossy.â
âYou know you love it.â
Vi smiles, nipping at your bottom lip for a moment before answering.
âI really do.â
The confession makes you blush and Vi thinks itâs the cutest thing ever. Her hands move to your waist, tugging at the hem of your shorts. You lift your hips up, allowing her to pull them down your legs. She runs her finger against your clothes cunt, making you buck your hips up. She leans down to kiss your stomach, slowly inching herself lower. Her hand pushes against your stomach, silently telling you to lean back. You do as she asks laying on the bed beneath you. Viâs hand latch onto your underwear, giving the waistband a small slap against your skin before begging to tug them off. Viâs brain almost shortcuts at the sight of your bare pussy before her. Youâre so incredibly wet for her that it takes her a moment to recover cognitive function.Â
âVi.â
Her name escapes your lips in a throaty whine,causing her to look up at your face.
âPlease.â
You are begging for her to give you some release. Begging for her to fuck you stupid with her tongue. And by god if that doesnât make her horny.
She tugs your legs over her shoulder, shifting herself in a more comfortable position before leaning down to give a lick to your slit. Your reaction is immediate. Your hands latch onto her hair, hips bucking as you chase the feeling of her tongue. The soft whine that escapes your lips makes Viâs heart pound. She dragged her tongue against your clit, giving it a rough suck before continuing to lapp at your folds. One of her hands moves from its position on your hips, moving up to grab at your tits. Her thumb moves over your clothed breasts, caressing them. But itâs not enough, you want to feel her skin against yours.
Your hips shift slightly as you force yourself to sit up. Vi glances at you curiously for a moment, trying to understand what you're doing. You grab the hem of your shirt tugging it over your head. Viâs eyes widen as your bare chest is revealed to her. Before she can help it one of her hands wrapped around your breast giving it a squeeze. You let out a loud moan, causing Vi to look at your face. Your eyes are shut, lips slightly parted in pleasure.
âHey.â
Your eyes open at Viâs voice, head moving to look down at the girl.
âEyes on me princess. I want to see you.â
You give her a small smile, shifting back to lean on your elbows. Vi gives you a pleased smile before moving her focus back to your pussy. You try all your might to keep your eyes on Vi as she eats you out but itâs quite the challenge. Vi can tell you're getting close by the way your legs begin to shake around her head. It causes her to move her hand, fingers moving to help her tongue as she brings you to your peak. Your walls clench around her digits as you coat her face in your cum. Your elbows give out as your orgasm washes over you, causing you to fall onto the bed.
âThat's it, let it out princess.â
Vi helps you through it, lips moving to give kisses to your thighs as she carefully removes her fingers from inside you. You let out a moan at the sudden emptiness. Vi moves off the floor, climbing up into the bed beside you. She lays on her back, gazing up at the ceiling. You shift closer to her, legs entangeling with hers as you rest your head on her chest. Vi places a small kiss to your temple.
âI had no idea.â
You look up at her.
âAbout what?â
âThat you were attracted to me.â
You let out a small laugh.
âVi iâve had a thing for you since that first night at the bar.â
âOh really?â
You bite your lip, a mischievous look taking over your features. You sit up, shifting until your body is straddling Viâs hips. She smiles up at you, her hands moving to grip your waist.
âWhat are you doing?â
âShowing you just how much I like you.â

"Together forever..."
â°⢠âď¸ - Celebrating Christmas and his birthday
Feat. Michael Kaiser
AN: Happy Birthday, Michael Kaiser, and Merry Christmas!!<3
For Kaiser, December 25th was nothing special. To most people, was it Christmas, and even for him, his birthday? Of course, but growing up with his dad, the day meant nothing, another day of abuse and wishes that he believed would never come true. Well until this year, the first year he had celebrated Christmas with somebody else, somebody that he loved and cared about. All starting off with a late morning, even if you were up early there was no way Kaiser was getting up that early, even if it was 9 AM. Then heading downstairs to start on breakfast and gather around the tree, you, him, and the stray puppy you two adopted when you first moved in. The second you handed him a present after he had given you a couple himself he looked, shocked, before it melted down to a little bit of confusion. â..For me..? You didnât have to get me anything, you know that right?â Even after many months of him saying how much he hated gifts, and didnât want anything for Christmas you still made an effort to try and get something he would like, even if you gave no clues about any potential gifts. âWell yeah, but come on, itâs Christmas! And not to mention your birthday, I had to get you somethingâŚâ
He only gave a small nod, as you helped your puppy get her gift before she ran off into another room with the new toy.Â
His present however was a pretty flat gift, even as he looked it over the tag had just said âMichaelâ on it. You could only notice his confusion and come sit down by him âItâs from Santa, silly!â âSantaâs not real.â âNot with that attitude heâs not!â He rolled his eyes as he unwrapped the gift, now sitting in his hands was the Desperado - 180G Vinyl, signed. Kaiser could only look in disbelief at the vinyl in his hands, his favorite band, with his favorite song, signed. It must have been a Christmas miracle. That was before another gift was handed to him â...This one is from me..â He looked back up at you, placing the Vinyl on the cushion next to him before grabbing the envelope from your hands. Turning it over, he unfolded the flap and grabbed something out of it. 2 tickets. Cruise tickets. âYou said when you were younger all you asked for was freedom⌠What better way to get that than traveling all over, being free from responsibilities, and free from the world, being able to stay in your own little space while you see everything you never got to see before, only downside is your stuck with me the whole timeâ You laughed a little as he tossed them to the side, standing up and hugging you. âLiebling, I didnât need anything⌠youâve already given me everything I asked for.. I just need you..â
The puppy soon came back into the room, yipping about something, the toy long forgotten as the dog came and pressed their head to both yours and Kaiserâs legs.
This wouldnât be a day either of you would be forgetting soon, your happy family finally teaching Kaiser that December 25th could be a good day, if you spent it with the right people.

Pairing: Emily Prentiss x fem!reader Summary: Emily always comes home to a nice surprise. WC: 1k Warnings: A little suggestive by the end but that's it :) A/N: This is my first time writing for Ems!!! Can you guys tell that I have a thing for 'coming home'? lol This has been sitting on my drafts for the longest time, so I figured I'd post it. Hope you guys enjoy it! :)
| masterlist
You'd gotten a call from your girlfriend, Emily Prentiss, telling you she was coming home that night. You felt instantly better, because the week had treated you very poorly, having dealt with major mistakes from people at work to having a flat tire mid-way home. Even through the phone, her cheerful tone was contagious to you, making happiness pump through your very bloodstream. You knew she worked really hard and other problems were probably one of the last things she needed to think about once she got home. So, you always went out of your way to make sure she felt welcome when she got back from her cases, so tonight it wouldn't be different.
Well, tonight would be very different. You decided you would propose to her as soon as she got home. You've spent some fair share of your time thinking about it and it made perfect sense. The two of you were together for three years now, and since you moved in together to a new apartment, which was now yours, you had no doubts that she was the love of your life. The one you wanted to spend the rest of your life with. Emily gave you all the safety you could possibly long for in a relationship, not to mention that she was the most loving partner ever. Her absences made you feel incomplete, but seeing her come back to you made your heart flutter every time like it was the first.
On the way back home, you got flowers â daisies, to be more specific, a personal favorite of yours and Emily's. Once you entered your apartment, you tidied up the place and cooked her favorite dish as you listened to one of your favorite albums, all the while thinking about how it'd feel to see her, to be in each other's embrace again, how would she react... You weren't nervous, of course, you knew she loved you just the same, but what if she wasn't ready to get married? What if she wasn't there yet? What if she didn't want to marry you? The thought made you shudder.
When you finished your cooking, you got ready by dressing yourself in one of her favorites looks on you, a set of pajamas that clung to your body â you felt comfortable, the cotton material against your skin felt great, but Emily's hands on you when she first saw you in that set felt heavenly.
You smiled to yourself, already anticipating her reaction.
You sat on your couch, mindlessly scrolling on your phone and answering a few texts from your friends and family, desperately trying to ignore the anxiety bubbling inside you. You were watching a puppy video when you heard the door unlock, which made you dash to the door in an instant, "Emily, my darling! You're home!" You said, throwing yourself into her arms. She grinned softly, thinking that she'd never get used to you, let alone to how you reacted everytime she got home. It was so nice being safe and feeling loved and wanted.
"I missed you, my girl," she said when you slightly pulled away from her arms. Both of her hands carressed your cheeks and traveled to the sides of your neck, thumb gently ghosting over your earlobes. Her gaze was intensely fixed on yours and you could feel the love in those beautiful, black eyes. After silently admiring you for some time, for her eyes expressed something that words failed to, she captured your lips in a kiss that told you just how much she had, indeed, missed you. Her kisses always made you feel like the luckiest woman in the world, not only because you had her attention solely on you, but also because you were the one who truly held her heart in your hands. "I'm sorry I took so long, my girl, but I'm here." Another passionate kiss. "I'm home."
"That's what matters." You mumbled, lips pressed to her cheek. She smiled.
"That," she chuckled, "and the fact that you're always waiting for me. Coming home to a house without you in it makes no sense to me anymore."
You chuckled, absolutely delighted by the effect you had on your girlfriend. Soon to be⌠"I have a surprise for you."
Placing her hands on your waist, she chuckled, "That's sweet, darling. But I don't think it's as nice as mine."
You laced your hands together at the back of her neck, asking while grinning stupidly, "You have a surprise for me, Em?" To which she nodded. "Okay. We can both surprise each other on the count of three."
âOkay."
Deep breaths. She loves you. Be brave. "One, two, threeâWill you marry me?"
As you finished the countdown and blurted the sentence nervously, Emily was down on one knee, having let go of your waist at breakneck speed once you said the word "three" and pulling a ring box from her pocket. You gasped and Emily's mouth hung agape, like a fish out of water.
Once the surprise of the moment washed away slightly, you burst out laughing with pure bliss, soon joined by your now fiancĂŠ â if her being down on one knee and holding out a ring for you meant anything, it definitely meant that she would, in fact, marry you. You got down on your knees to hold her in your arms, relishing in the moment of sheer joy between you two. Your heart felt safe and complete and everything was because of the woman who held you in her arms and carried you so dear and near to her own heart.
"I love you." You muttered, kissing the top of her head, voice slightly muffled by her hair.
"I love you, darling. So much. I... I can't believe we're gonna get married." She said, breaking in the biggest grin you've ever seen on her face.
âI can't believe you said yes." You smiled.
"Technically, I didn't..."
"Shut up, Prentiss."
She pinched your chin, smiling devilishly. "In a few months, I'm gonna be saying that to you, too.â She quipped. âNow, come on. Let's see you out of those pajamas, hm?â

We have a spare room- Part 3
When all goes wrong, moving in with three guys will solve it?
It had been three months since you moved in with three random men, all of which having their own weird affect on you. Chris had quickly become the person you went to when you wanted to talk about Taylor swift or Chappell Roan or anything of the sort, he loved the fact that you didnât judge him for his feminine side. And you loved the fact that he allowed you to rant about anything to him, always giving the best rants back.
This however meant that you had to judge him for something else, now if thereâs one thing you learnt about Chris, itâs that heâll test his luck, he had the tendency to be a dick to his friends. Arthurtv told you about that one time in school when Chris told the girl Arthur liked that they were in a gay relationship, much to the girlâs dismay.
The way to combat this you may ask? Chris does something wrong, he has to put ÂŁ1 in the jar, they stole the idea, some show called new girl apparently?
Besides Chris, Arthur was the best person to go to if you wanted something interesting, he had this amazing ability to be able to make you laugh at the most random times. Like the time last week where you were all arguing over the shared bathroom, having the biggest shower you tended to argue over who was going to use it when you go out. Arthur fully started to strip off naked, making you all leave as he shouted that heâd flash you all if you didnât let him use the shower. In the end, you George and Chris sat on the floor outside the bathroom laughing for nearly an hour.
And then thereâs George. George was the classic, blast music and go to parties and drink kind of guy. Somehow you found yourself roped into going to yet another influencer party at least once a week, however, you canât exactly say that you didnât like it. Aswell as this, he was absolutely amazing at giving advice, about anything, you had problems with filming? George knew what to do. you had no idea what to wear? he did. It was shocking how good the man was at just daily advice, it made you really appreciate the fact that you have him as a friend now.
~
You had uploaded a video three days ago where you were playing a horror game on Roblox, which you didnât see an issue with and as usual got the views you were used to. But today? Today it peaked, around 9000 more people liked it in just the one day.
Then came the comments. and thatâs where you realised your mistake. At one point you scream particularly loud and George (being the only other person in the flat at the time) shouts in from his room asking if everything was okay, to which you laugh and shout through that you are making a video and youâre okay. And this would be absolutely no issue if it wasnât for the fact that your editor left it in, and your viewers, and just people people in general, did not know that you had moved out of your old flat let alone moved in with another man.
This caused a shocking amount of people to guess that you must have broken up with your boyfriend, and got with George almost straight away, and thatâs why heâs in your house, concerned whether youâre okay. It didnât take long for George to be knocking at your door, asking if you were decent so he could come in.
âIâm decent George, come inâ
âSo⌠I saw your commentsâ he says while sitting down on the bed, a bit of a red look on his face, clearly just back from being outside.
âIâm so sorry, I didnât realise my editor left it in, iâm making a tiktok literally in a minute to tell people that we arenât together, it just means explaining why Iâm hereâ you say back in an apologetic tone, aware of how overwhelming the fans can be sometimes.
âItâs fine, I promise, do you think we should get us all in the vid just to prove it a bit?â he asks with a curious tone.
You make the decision to do so, making everyone group together on the sofa as you set up your phone, pressing record.
âSo⌠hey guys, iâm making a quick short video to address some things i guess? for reference, I made a video last week that was released three days ago, and in it, George here asked me if i was okay, which is lovely, but we are just friends.â
Arthur giggles and says âWeâre all just friends, she just wanted to hide from you guys that she moved out of her old placeâ
Chris chimes in âYeah, so if anyone, preferably three girls and a guy want to come wife up this flat feel freeâ
âChris shut the fuck upâ All three of you say in response, yet all laughing too.
âSo yeah, I moved in with Chris, George and Arthur and I guess thatâs where I am now, hope this clears things up and I love you allâ
You post the video and the comments come in immediately:
this quad is literally iconic
we all know why she moved in with three guys
chris is so Schmidt coded argue with the wall
iâm so glad to see you living your best life baby omg!!
they are such iconic friends we need more videos together
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A/N i am so incredibly sorry, iâve been completely procrastinating this, i hope we like it!! also can we notice the fourth wall break xx
christmas miracle ⢠fred weasley x reader
use #mallowsweetmicros to find my imagines!
Christmas at Hogwarts was your favorite time of year. Flurries outside your window, the crackling fires, the carols sung in the hallways. It all made you indescribably happy. Even the Gryffindor common room was decked out in garland and floating ornaments, the smell of fresh balsam in every corner. You sighed contentedly to yourself as you sat by the fire. Exams were finally over and you were set to head home on the Hogwarts Express tomorrow. Things couldnât be better.
âY/N!â You heard your name being called from the portrait hole. It was Fred, George, and Lee. You waved at them and sat up, readjusting your blanket on your lap. To your surprise, only Fred continued towards you, waving to the other boys as they headed towards their dorm. George and Lee sent cheeky smiles your way.
âHi,â you smiled, moving your books from the couch so he could sit.
âHi love,â he beamed, taking a seat next to you. You blushed at his nickname. Fred had always been overly affectionate with most people, but you were grateful to have experienced it. You craved it, his hugs and his nicknames. The way he slung his arm around you at the Three Broomsticks. It made you smile and you didnât care if it was just the way he was. It made you feel special.
âExcited to go home?â You asked, watching as he settled in. His arm was draped over the back of the couch, his body turned towards you. You wished you could crawl into his lap, but youâd never have the courage to do so. Although, you doubted heâd mind.
âYeah, of course,â he shrugged, the fire reflecting off his hair. âBut Iâm a little sad to leave this year.â You furrowed your brows and gave him a curious smile. It was hard not to smile with his contagious energy so close to you.
âWhy is that?â You wondered aloud. He was usually boasting about going home to his mums cooking.
âTo be honest, I wish I could spend Christmas with you,â he replied. You let out a huff as your smile grew without your knowledge.
âWhat?â You laughed, brushing your hair behind your ears in a feeble attempt to cool your blush.
âIâm sad I canât watch you open my gift on actual Christmas,â he said, his voice soft and quiet. You shook your head at him, thoroughly confused. âBut I figured two days before is close enough. So here, open it.â He grinned at you as he pulled out a small box from his pocket. You took it from him and bit your lip. It was small, rectangular, and fairly light. You pulled off the ribbon and opened the lid.
âFred,â you gasped, pulling out the quill. âHow did you even know I wanted this?â Your hand flew to cover your open mouth as you admired the pearl handled quill. You felt like Santa Claus had magically made your Christmas wish come true.
âI remember you admiring it when we were in Hogsmeade a few weeks ago,â Fred chuckled, watching you run a finger over the smooth surface of the grip. âI donât think Iâve ever seen you want something that badly before. I couldnât help myself.â Your eyes ripped away from the beautiful gift and up towards Fred. âDo you like it?â
âDo I like it?â You repeated. âFred, this is the best gift Iâve ever gotten.â You flung your arms around him and buried yourself into his neck.
âReally,â he chuckled. âA quill is the best gift youâve ever gotten?â You nodded you head into his shoulder.
âItâs not just a quill, itâs a beautiful quill. And-â itâs from you. You couldnât exactly say that though, so you settled for, âI didnât get you a gift!â You gasped and pulled abruptly out of the hug. Fred only chuckled again and held your arm from pulling away too far.
âItâs fine, Y/N. Seeing you happy with your present is more than enough for me,â he murmured, his voice laced with affection. Your blush deepened under his touch, his eyes holding yours captive. You were dizzy with realization. It was a Christmas miracle. Fred Weasley liked you back.
âWait,â you said, reaching into your bag to grab your wand. âI think I have something for you.â You flicked your wand up, casting a flicker of red and green magic above you. It was a silly charm you had been practicing for fun, but now your festive spirit was proving worthwhile. Fred watched as the mistletoe took shape, his mouth slightly parted as his eyes fixed on the delicate bristle. You bit your lip to hold your smile as you watched his face flush red. You would certainly be replaying that image in your mind over the holiday.
âHow did you learn to do that?â Fred asked in wonderment, still gaping at the red bowed mistletoe.
âI taught myself before December,â you chuckled. âYâknow. Just in case someone needed it.â Fred chuckled as his eyes settled back on you.
âI wish Iâd known about this earlier,â he murmured, his hand moving from your shoulder to your cheek. âIf Iâd known how to cast this, I wouldâve done it on December 1st.â He leaned forward gently, pressing his lips against yours with adoration. He was warm and sweet like hot cocoa, his lips moving against yours with an impossible gentleness. The kiss was unhurried and soft, and it practically melted you into the couch. When he pulled away, your body betrayed you, a soft whine escaping your pouted lips. Fred chuckled and pressed another kiss to your cheek.
âDid you like my gift?â You asked sheepishly, your rosey cheeks warming Fredâs heart. He smiled as the mistletoes shape shimmered and fell over the two of you.
âThis is definitely the best gift Iâve ever received.â
The villainâs stare bored itself into the hero relentlessly and the hero felt - as so often - the crushing weight growing heavier. If it wasnât for the villain, theyâd be dead.
âI donât know,â the hero whispered. Their voice was hoarse, completely breaking apart. âIâm sorry.â
âI didnât ask for an apology, I asked for an explanation.â The villain wiped some dust off their clothes and took in a deep breath. Unlike the hero, they were untouched, perfectly healthy. However, also in a scarily bad mood.
Usually, the villain wasnât as serious as they should have been. So, this was surprising. The villain had never saved the hero.
âI donât know,â the hero repeated. They put their head in their hands, grabbed the roots of their hair. âIâm sorry, but I donât know.â
âThink, then.â
The hero looked up.
âI feel like Iâm at a point in my life whereâŚwhere Iâm standing still. I canât go forward. And if I do move, I go backwards and then, I come back to the same point. IâŚI donât know what I was thinking, I knew this mission would be dangerous. I didnât know it would be suicide. Iâm, fuck, IâmâŚIâm stupid.â
The villainâs brows furrowed.
âAlright, enough.â They raised a hand as if to silence the hero. âYour personal problems donât concern me, but I canât save you every time youâre in trouble. Ruins my reputation.â
âIâm not asking you to save me.â
âItâs not much of a choice when you look at me like a sad puppy.â The villain sighed and kneeled in front of them. âYou dying would kind of ruin my day, so Iâm trying to avoid that.â
The hero buried their face in their hands, squeezing their eyes shut until they saw stars. They were aware that something was wrong with them. Admittedly, they didn't know if they had always been broken, or if this had developed during the last months of saving people.
Somewhere within the hero, they knew this part of them, this unlovable part they were so ashamed of, this sick and weak part that made them crumble and decay, destroyed them from the inside out. Often the hero imagined it was a tumor they could cut out of their flesh, they wouldn't even care if they'd hit bone with the blade. But it was etched into their soul and that could barely be fixed.
A sweet relationship that had turned incredibly bitter, a friend dying in front of them, their noble view of the world changing radically - all of it had tainted the hero in a way words could barely describe.
The hero didn't feel like they could see colors anymore, their taste was dull, they had become lazy. And in their mind, they were the most undesirable, most pathetic, most detestable person in the entire world.
They felt the tears, the usual stinging in their nose and eyes.
"You do know that I don't have to save you, right?" the villain asked.
"Yeah," the hero said, wiping tears away. "I get it. I'm grateful for your kindness. I'll repay you somehow."
"That's not exactly what I meant," the villain said. "I meant that you're perfectly capable of saving yourself."
They bit their bottom lip.
"I get it, some days suck. Some weeks suck. Some months suck. But someone as competent as you cannot be this reckless. Do you think you're unable to overcome what you're dealing with? You out of all people?" The villain tilted their head and let out a long sigh. "If I was cruel, I'd tell you to join me because I can make your life better. But sadly, I don't have all the answers either. And I want you to truly believe in my goals and understand me as a person."
Their eyes fixed on the hero's lips but they looked away quickly.
"Just do me a favor and don't get killed," they said. The hero closed their eyes and took in a deep and shaky breath.
"I will try."
"Good." They felt the villain's fingertips brush their arm, but when they opened their eyes, they were alone.
DATING HEADCANONS featuring. damon maitsu, kai monteago, wolfgang akire, desmond hall and mark berskii.
edens garden maxxing rn :] i enjoyed chapter one a lot, so iâll be pumping out a bit more writing of them ^^; feel free to send in requests, (even if its for different medias) though i already have 3-4 drafts ill be dishing out eventually.
damon, who treats you like youâre a fragile little doll, prepared for you to break at any moment. hence, why he worries for you so much. though he attempts (and fails) to play it off as a casual concern. âare you hurt? bleeding?â âwhat? no? i just tripped, damon.â âare you sure? let me check just incase. come on, stop moving.â damon, who always has a limb around you. his hands? wrapped around your waist, or intertwined within your own. his legs? always pressed up against yours. if you point it out, he gets flustered and denies it, pulling away. but youâll still find his eyes constantly lingering on you, as if he hasnât felt your contact in months and needed it desperately. damon, who is a tease, yet gets flustered just as easily. sarcastic, teasing remarks always escaping his lips, smirking as if he didnât have a care in the world. though the minute you retort back with a comment of your own, he's completely quiet. blushing and muttering embarrassed insults under his breath. damon, who doesnât quite understand standards when it comes to dating. holding a door open for you? walking close to the road? wearing a hair tie on his wrist incase youâd needed one? a foreign concept to him. but regardless, upon hearing things told to him by other people whilst rambling like kai, he tries his best to adapt to it. things that would normally be unusual for him, he attempts because he wants the best for you. damon, who is stingy and a bother about little trinkets you point out. âdo you really need that?â âthat looks stupid.â âits so small. why is it expensive?â yet of course, theyâd somehow end up within your residence. somehow. obviously, it were damon. damon, who spoils you with acts of services. openly doing things heâd refuse to or need convincing for from others, going out of his way to do things for you without being asked, etc. sure, maybe once in awhile heâll knock on your head and call you an idiot for not being able to do something yourself, but itâs just teasing. he truly doesnât mind providing for you, or helping you. anything that offers spending time with you is worth it for him.
kai, who couldnât get enough of you. your touch, your attention, your words, you name it, he likes it. his hands are constantly all over you, any opportunity heâs given. he melts within your touch, in his most vulnerable state, unable to resist anything when it comes from you and your grasp. kai, who spoils you with anything he can offer â cute endearing nicknames, gifts heâd found that he thought youâd like, or even little snacks he thought looked silly that you two could try together. he loves to see your expression light up when he offers you some item heâd found that he thought youâd enjoy. even if you donât end up liking it, the idea of him being reminded of you or thinking of you enough to make the purchase still leaves you feeling warm. kai, who whiningly calls you princess whenever he needs something from you. aside from his casual nicknames that he adores, like sweetheart or baby, whenever princess leaves his lips, you know he wants something from you. kai, who is admittedly quite insecure. heâs scared heâll be abandoned by you, just like heâd been left by so many others who viewed him differently due to the persona he puts on online. but because of this, it just means he cherishes what you give him more than anything. he wants you to be able to touch those negative emotions inside of him, and see what really lies within his heart, not what he puts on the internet or around others.
wolfgang, who leaves encouraging little sticky notes around your desk when spending time away from you. reminders to take care of yourself, reminders that he loves you and wishes he were with you, etc. wolfgang, who gently takes care of you whenever given the opportunity. brushing your hair in the morning, making you coffee, assisting you in filling out paperwork, you name it. despite being such a busy man, he works hard to make sure heâs around for you. wolfgang, who despite appearing so cool headed, is such a jealous boy. the type to watch you talk to someone from behind and give them a disgustingly stern glare, but the moment you turn to face him, hes smiling sweetly in your direction. the type to wrap his arms around you and get all close and mushy in order to scare off someone else eyeing you. wolfgang, who invites you out on the sweetest dates ever. picnics under the warm, dimly lit night sky, only the stars witnessing the two of you giggling away and laying together. or, a romantic date at a a fancy restaurant, where the two of you dress elegantly, yet he canât take his eyes off of you. his mind too caught onto the gorgeous attire tight against your body, too lost in how gorgeous you look whilst speaking to him. wolfgang, who spoils you with luxurious items. anything you want? youâll get it. he doesnât mind what you wear, whether or not you like cute or cheap things. what does matter though, is if you want something. and if you want something, youâll get it.
desmond, who is so smooth with his words, you could die. the way he speaks to you in such a soft and caring tone. the way he goes along willingly with whatever you say, because admittedly, what makes you happy makes him happy. the way he speaks about you in such an endearing way to others. others may be embarrassed when speaking of or sharing about someone they love, but desmond expresses the way he feels for you without hesitation. desmond, who teaches you little quirks about his ultimate. little things that could be useful for protecting you, or just things he finds neat and wants to share with you. desmond, who is perfect for a clumsy you. about to trip? hes already grabbed you, hands wrapped around your waist, pulling you back up onto your feet. about to spill something? hes grabbed the glass, preventing it. his quick reflexes are almost scary.
mark, who loves to kiss a certain part of you. your hands, your nose, silly yet specific places which just make him feel warm. mark, who gets embarrassed about the way he thinks about you. who will be listening to you rambling like usual, yet turn his head out of no where, muttering to himself like a flustered mess. mark, who has an attitude which is no joke. it doesnât come off as a surprise, but the way he rolls his eyes and grumbles makes it much easier to decipher when heâs displeased or irritated. but to him, youâre a soft spot which can always manage to cheer him up. your silence yet presence close to his serves as a type of battery for him. mark, who is constantly sharing songs that he likes to you. new songs hes found that remind him of you, a song hes been listening to a lot recently, or even just songs hes worked on. he wants you to enjoy what he does.
that will be enough (matt murdock x reader)
pairing: matt murdock x reader
content: reader has holiday anxiety (me lol), angst, some fluff if you squint
notes: I have missed matt honestly...but this is something short while I work on some other things. if you also have holiday anxiety...sending love. as always, I dont believe in proofreading.
full masterlist linked here
For Matt, the holidays were yet another reminder of the love he had in his heartâmost of all for his dad. The love he had for you was intense, yet differed from the emotion held for his late father. While having laid the great Jack to rest, the feeling of doing so always persistent in his mind, he could forget it was there. With you, the warmth consistently filled his body. It made sense, then, that he was exceptionally in tune to your every action.Â
Matt dreaded his somber mood during this time of year. He quickly noticed, too, your feigned enjoyment. Whether it be a mindless repetitive tapping, or a grimace at the sight of even more holiday decorâthe disdain was clear.Â
Youâd forced yourself to accept invitations, RSVP, and show up to events this year. With each one, you were reminded of how little you actually had. Not financially, per say, but the lack of family. It was easy to say that that intimacy could be found anywhere, but people sucked. It was officially true that with your low tolerance for bullshit, you had girl bossed your way into having no friends, no family to see, and nobody to loveâbesides Matt. The thought made you pull away from him. The thought of placing all of this onto Matt aloneâto be the only important thing in your lifeâwas a lot. So when you found yourself at another winter soiree, Matt attached at your hip, it was easy for him to notice you werenât okay.Â
He tried to talk to you a few times, you hadnât responded. Not purposely ignoring him, he noticed, but regressing into that state you would sometimes when you were overstimulated. There was so much happening, you couldnât process everything. The music was meant to be the obligatory party soundtrack. You let out a huff at the ambience seemingly blaring in your ears. Your head was pounding. There were too many people. Too much talking. Not enough quiet.Â
You felt a hand on your back. You turned to see Matt there, as always. You tried to hide the immediate response your body had to him, but you both knew that he was aware.Â
âYou okay?â His voice the only thing making sense was common for you. Heâd say the same about you. When you didnât respond, he continued, âHow are you feeling?â He rubbed a few circles into your lower back, before resting his hand on your waist.Â
You nodded, a hesitance there, âIâm o-okay.â You turned your head away, embarrassed by your inability to say two words without choking up.Â
Without a word, Matt grasped your hand and pulled you from the table youâd be standing at. You followed him, always willing to do so, youâd go wherever he went. Shut up. You quieted your own thoughts. How pathetic it was to be so incapable and reliant on a man. Your lip quivered. Matt turned to you, again, sensing it all. He moved to grab your coatsâsliding on yours, then his.Â
âCome on.âÂ
Your feet were moving on their own. You let the feeling of his arm pulling yours lead you into the elevator. You sniffled, still not much on your mind other than the immense failure you were.Â
âHey,â Matt turned to you as the doors closed. âWhatever it is, itâll be okay.âÂ
You felt the tears building, the pressure burning your eyes. âIt wonât.âÂ
He was in front of you now, the twinge of salt in your tears hitting the air and his lips. Matt turned swiftly, hitting the stop button. You stumbled at the jolt and grasped for the wall for support.Â
âMatt! What are you doing?â
âWhat are you feeling?â
âNothing, Iâm good.â
He tilted his head as he did, âLie.âÂ
âI hate you,âÂ
âAnother lie.âÂ
You turned to face the elevator wall. You sucked your teeth at your reflection. He was always so in tune, whether good or bad you still were not sure. It was times like this, where you let as if you were crawling in your skin, that the thought of explaining that phenomenon made you feel ill.Â
He interrupted the thought, âItâs okay.â Donât get yourself worked up.Â
A split second later you spoke frantically, âI donât think I can live without you.â The words blended together, the embarrassment increasing with every letter that left your mouth.Â
He smiled a bit, nodding, âThats good to hearâŚseeing as I donât really plan on going anywhere.âÂ
The sound of you inhaling and exhaling slow filled the elevator cart. You looked at him, then. âWhat I meanâŚmeantâŚis thatâŚI am overwhelmed right now.âÂ
An arched brow and a nod encouraged you to continue.Â
âI have nobody,â He opened his mouth to interrupt. You quieted him with your hand up, ââŚexcept you. Which isnâtâŚideal.â There was sympathy, but silence still. He allowed you the space, here, to say everything. âWhenever weâre outâŚwhen Iâm outâŚI feel so lonely. Itâs like this time of year just heightens that feeling I have that everything should be perfect. But nothing is. Nothing can be.â You paused, âBut I want it to.âÂ
âI miss my dad.â Matt stated plainly. âAnd I donât really talk to my mom.â It was your turn to nod this time. âI have a few people I care about, but sometimes it doesnât feel like enough. Especially during Christmas.â He went to lean on the opposite elevator wall as you were standing. âI imagined myself having years way beyond what I had with my dad. In church on Christmas, or maybe watching movies with himâŚI didnât get much of that.â He stabilized himself, removing his red frames with one hand. âI donât want you to feel burdened by the expectation of what a cookie-cutter life should be. Sometimes thereâs other plans for usâŚand honestlyâŚif we only have each other, forever, that will be enough for me.âÂ
You nodded aggressively, trying to make sense of that. You tried to drill the words into your mind so as to never be in this state again.Â
âI hate Christmas.âÂ
Matt moved to hit the button, âMe too, babe.â
There wasnât much said on the way to his apartment, nor when youâd both crawled into bed. After a while, Matt grabbed your palm and kissed the back of your hand. He spoke into your now intertwined fingers. âI canât live without you either, by the way.âÂ
âGood to know that weâre both extremely helpless individuals.â
He chuckled, âWe truly belong togetherâ
You hummed. The intense feeling hadnât completely left you, but rather been satiated by the knowledge that despite its existenceâMatt would always be there, too.
pairing: remus lupin x reader
summary: Remus loves christmas for many reasons, but his favourite reason might be you.
chapter warnings: mention of food, other than that not any to my knowledge!!
A/N: merry christmas!! i guess i have to listen to the people of tumblr and write another one... yay
At the young age of 6 years old, Remus John Lupin knew one thing; he loved Christmas. While every day was a constant reminder of his... condition, Christmas was his chance to be normal. His mother would bake sugar cookies and brownies with him, while his father would use magic to string old christmas lights across their small house. His favourite part, however, was not the gifts, or the decorations. It was chocolate. Remus loved chocolate in any form it came in, and in winter, there was no shortage of it. Hot chocolate, peppermint bark, festive chocolate frogs his father would buy for him, Remus adored christmas for this reason.
When Remus went to Hogwarts, his love for christmas only increased. Surrounded by friends who entertained him with games of wizard's chess and card games, he had more to look forward to when the first snowfall of the year happened. Remus loved the way you loved christmas as well. Your sweet disposition only shone brighter during the holiday season. Whether you helped a first year put his ornament higher on the gryffindor common room's christmas tree, or shared your homemade treats with kids whose parents were far to busy to make any, you were just the most perfect person on earth, like an angel that descended from heaven.
On his fourth Christmas holiday spent at Hogwarts, Remus couldnât help but watch you from the corner of the common room, pretending to be engrossed in the book resting on his lap. You were laughing as you helped a third-year untangle a string of enchanted fairy lights that kept trying to loop themselves into knots. The sound of your laughâlight and genuineâmade his chest tighten in a way he couldnât quite explain.
âOi, Moony!â Siriusâs voice jolted him out of his reverie. âAre you going to make that move, or are you just planning to stare at her until next Christmas?â Sirius smirked, leaning back in his chair, a knowing look plastered on his face.
James snickered beside him, flicking a wizardâs chess piece that had been knocked over in the chaos of their ongoing game. âDonât be too hard on him, Padfoot. Christmas is the time for love and all that nonsense, isnât it?â
Remus flushed, ducking his head to hide the redness creeping up his cheeks. âI wasnât staring,â he muttered, though the heat in his face betrayed him.
âOh, sure,â Peter chimed in, grinning as he picked up one of the chocolate frogs from a plate nearby. âBecause itâs totally normal to sit with a chessboard in front of you for twenty minutes without moving a single piece.â
Before Remus could come up with a defense, you approached the group, holding a tray of what looked like freshly baked gingerbread cookies. âAnyone want some? I tried a new recipe, and I think they turned out pretty well,â you said, smiling as you offered the plate.
Remusâs heart skipped a beat as you leaned closer to him, holding out the tray. âHere, Remus. I know you like chocolate, so I added a little drizzle on these ones.â
He stared at the cookies for a moment, then at you, his brain struggling to form coherent words. âThank you,â he managed, his voice quieter than he intended. He took one, the warmth of your smile making his insides feel like melted chocolate.
Sirius raised an eyebrow at him, smirking. âSmooth, Moony. Really smooth.â
You laughed softly at their antics, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. âWell, enjoy, everyone. Let me know what you think.â And with that, you turned to help another group of students decorating by the fireplace.
Remus watched you walk away, the cookie forgotten in his hand. James leaned over and whispered, âMate, youâre going to have to say something eventually. Preferably before we graduate.â
But Remus didnât need their teasing to know what was on his mind. You had a way of making every part of Christmas brighter, and he couldnât help but think that you were the best gift heâd ever have the privilege of knowing.
By the next Christmas, the common room was alive with festive cheer once more, and this time, you and Remus sat together by the fire like old friendsâthough to Remus, you were so much more than that.
It had been a year since that quiet, awkward conversation, and in that time, you and Remus had grown closer in a way that felt effortless. He no longer hesitated to sit beside you in the common room or join you for study sessions in the library. Youâd developed a quiet, easy camaraderie that made him feel like he belonged in a way he hadnât since arriving at Hogwarts.
This Christmas, though, felt different.
âAre you winning, Moony?â you teased, leaning over to glance at his game of wizardâs chess with Sirius.
âNot even close,â he admitted with a wry smile. His knight was just smashed to bits by Siriusâs queen, and his remaining pieces seemed to be shaking with dread.
âPoor knight,â you said with mock sympathy. âHe never stood a chance.â
Sirius grinned. âIâm ruthless. Everyone knows that.â
Remus rolled his eyes but chuckled, turning to you. âI think my pieces have officially given up. Care to save me by distracting Sirius?â
You laughed, shaking your head. âOh no, Iâm terrible at chess. But I can offer you some chocolate for moral support.â
Reaching into the small tin youâd brought with you, you held out a neatly wrapped piece. Remus accepted it with a quiet âthanks,â and as he unwrapped it, he couldnât help but marvel at how thoughtful you always were.
âDo you ever stop being nice?â he asked softly, almost to himself.
You tilted your head, smiling. âWhy would I stop? Itâs Christmas.â
âStill,â he muttered, looking down at the chocolate in his hand. âYou make everything... better. Not just Christmas. Justâeverything.â
Your cheeks warmed, and you reached for a piece of chocolate yourself to hide your flustered smile. âThatâs what friends are for, right?â
The word friends made his heart ache in the best and worst way. He wanted to be more than that, but the thought of ruining what you already had was enough to keep him silent.
âYouâve been so good to me this year, Remus,â you said after a moment, surprising him. âHonestly, I donât know what Iâd do without you.â
His head snapped up, his eyes wide. âMe? Youâre the one whoâsââ He stopped himself, shaking his head. âNever mind.â
You leaned closer, curiosity sparkling in your eyes. âNo, go on. What were you going to say?â
He hesitated, then sighed, giving you a small smile. âYouâre the one whoâs made this year so great. I mean, youâre... youâre incredible, really. You make everyone feel special. Itâs hard not to feel lucky just being around you.â
Your heart fluttered, and you looked down at your lap, feeling suddenly shy. âWell, if I make everyone feel special, itâs only because I learned from you.â
Remus blinked, caught completely off guard. âFrom me?â
You nodded, meeting his gaze with a soft smile. âOf course. Youâre one of the kindest people I know, Remus. And you always know how to make people feel cared for, even when you donât realize it.â
For a moment, neither of you spoke. The room seemed to grow quieter, the glow of the fire casting a soft light over your faces.
âThank you,â he said finally, his voice barely above a whisper.
âMerry Christmas, Remus,â you said, your smile brighter than any decoration in the room.
âMerry Christmas,â he replied, his heart so full it felt like it might burst.
He still didnât know if heâd ever work up the courage to tell you how he really felt, but for now, being your friendâyour favourite friend, he hopedâwas more than enough.
