random musing about pokemon scarlet and violet that i'm not sure what conclusion i actually have about it yet, but just wanted to say without committing to one or getting distracted by the "open world vs routes and dungeons" debate:

i think that part of game freak wanted to make a persona-like game focusing on the daily lives and big story arcs of high school students in a single huge city, needing to support each other against bullies and failed support systems and not always doing so in healthy ways, with very detailed designs for their dorms, homes, and classrooms

and part of game freak wanted it to be like breath of the wild, a game about a huge empty ruined kingdom full of cursed artifacts and melancholy piano and meeting the bits of civilization that are barely surviving in tiny little towns

and these two halves ended up having to meet each other halfway in the same game despite not really meshing together, interacting, or even acknowledging each other, like, at all, vaguely tied together thematically by the real treasure being the friends we met along the way

i don't think you can just make regular settings look like breath of the wild hyrule and not comment on it, that is not a storytelling-neutral setting. even if pokemon earth is a more nature-based setting than ours with like no roads, why is there like... one forest.

no one you know by name seems to have the cyclizar you need to make traveling around the place practical, almost as if their scenes were written and teams were designed without that in mind. no one but raifort or people standing right outside the giant glowing tombs seem to acknowledge the past of the region or the treasures of ruin

*bends down to touch the floor in front of the academy's completely skippable lessons/story, fast travel menus that open when you get near where the hallways would be, and teachers that are only battle-able in postgame yet still lovingly animated*

man. this whole thing pisses me off because like. even when people talk about staff having a history of hating trans women, that this isnt the first time, without fail black trans women are forgotten to be included again and again. im not surprised this caused such an uproar when the popular white woman gets deleted. nobody should be, its been that way like forever. some cunt in my inbox got annoyed i called rita a sex worker (lol? okay)

but i mentioned that in my post because so many black trans women have gotten removed from this site for their sex work alone, regardless of if it "broke community guidelines" or not, especially when tumblr live and the ads on this website are so fucking horny. idek what to say rn because like. this wont get as many notes as the posts talking about her will. the exploding car thing is gonna get more attention than the trans women on this site you dont actually care about listening to. ive been talking about how unfair it is to be a black tgirl on this site for years and nobody cares.

i love rita, we talked abit the other day and she's doing fine, dont get it twisted and think i hate her or some bs, she's a big fucking reason im not fucking homeless.

but part of why her deletion got to #1 trending on tumblr for multiple days in a row is that she's white

This is a gentle, earnest reminder to anyone who needs to hear it that no matter what the media tries to tell you, no matter how fearmongering some people try to be, no matter what happens in this one election, it will be okay. Please don't lose hope if your candidate doesn't win. The world will not end no matter who gets into office. Some people want us to be afraid and at each others' throats, but hating each other isn't going to make things better or solve our problems. We're all people and we all have value.

If things get too stressful, you are not weak or wrong to take time for yourself, away from the news and the yelling, and focus on all of the beautiful, good things in your life that aren't going away. Family. Friends. Sunshine. Your favorite snack. Pretty colors. Pets. Those funny memes. That show you like. A warm beverage.

Rest. Humans are not meant to carry every weight of the world on their shoulders at once. Allow yourself to trust and believe that there is still good in the world no matter who is in office.
