Girl next door: Nika MĂŒhi story
Chapter 3
Micaellaâs POV
She then gets in the passenger side and I hand her my phone and I see my mom calling and I answer it and I say hi mama. Mama says hey just wanted to check in. I say hey everything is fine i just went to the grocery store and Iâm going to have a picnic with my neighbor and her teammates. I'm about to drive home but Iâll call you later. She says okay have fun and someone really misses you. I smile and say I will mama and if he is there with her and if I can see him. She says he is lying right next to me all depressed. I say aww my poor baby boy i miss him too. Nika looks at me all confused and I say itâs my mom sheâs with our family dog and heâs all depressed because Iâm gone. She says ah okay and I say yeah and I say mama Iâll call you back tonight after dinner. She says okay and your father should be back by then.
I say okay good love you byeeeeee and my mom says I love you too bye sweetheart and then we hang up and I put the map on . Nika and the girls all say that was just super cute. I blush and say thanks girls you'll see them tonight. They all cheer and I giggle and put the address in and I give my phone back to Nika. Nika turns the music back on and I start driving back to the dorms. We get back to the dorms and the girls all help me bring the bags up to my room. I put what I donât need in the refrigerator and then I head to my room to change into a crop top and shorts. The girls all wait for me in the hall. I come back out and I get the picnic stuff ready and the food prepared. Nika watches me with heart eyes and then looks down at my ass and she starts to drool. The other girls all start to giggle and I finish up and I grab the picnic basket and blanket and I say whatâs the best spot to picnic at? They all look at Paige and Nika for the answer.
Paige says if you want it to just be us without anyone bothering us probably the national park but itâs far and I say okay then letâs just stay here but outside also Iâm micaella btw I totally forgot to introduce myself. They all smile and then they all introduce themselves to me. I smile back and I say okay letâs go have some lunch! They all say okay let's go and I smile and follow them out the door and we walk outside. Nika walks beside me the entire time. I softly smile and we get under a tree and I set up the picnic and I put the basket down. We all then sit on the blanket. Nika sits down next to me and ice sits on the other side of me and I get to know all the girls. The girls all get to know me as well . I notice a group of girls walking over and we hear them asking for the girls autographs and I fill up the girls plates with food.
The girls all sign their autographs and I notice one of the girls flirting with Nika and I frown and I hand the girls their plates. Nika ignores her and she turns her attention back to me. I continue to pass the girls their food and then I pour the apple cider into their cups. Nika then starts to pass out the cups to the girls then she rubs my back. I look over at her and softly smile and then I make her plate and pour her a cup as well. She smiles and says thank you gorgeous . I blush and say you're welcome Nika and then the girls say thank you mama mica and I giggle and I say you're welcome girls. We all start to eat our food and I pour some apple cider in a cup and I drink it and start to enjoy myself. Nika then starts to scoot closer to me. I bite my lip softly and I say how excited are you girls for March madness? They all say omg yes we definitely are. I giggled when I saw how excited they were and I said I would definitely have to check our schedule to see if I could go.
Nika says we would love it if you could make it. I smile and say hopefully the coach posted the schedule then Iâd know. She says okay and I smile then we all finish our food. My phone buzzes and I look down at it and I see that my grandma texted me and my mood completely changes. Nika and the girls all look at me very worried. I say one second and then I grab my phone and call my mom pacing around. My mom answers hello and I try not to cry and I say mama she texted me. She says okay take a deep breath and I will deal with her . I say okay she wonât stop messaging me and Iâm still with the girls. I don't even know what she said. I just can tell itâs nothing good. She says okay and I see another message pop up and I look at it and I see that she said wow I canât believe you just ran away because I moved to Florida so pathetic and fat and I feel tears streaming down my face. I then hear Paige say oh no sheâs crying and then she gets up and hugs me. Nika runs over to me as well and my mom says my sweetheart itâs okay youâre okay give the phone to Nika for me baby girl. I then hand my phone over to nika and Nika takes it and says hi Mrs. Ungerer itâs Nika is everything okay whatâs going on are you all okay.
Paige pulls me into her arms and I start to sob in her arms and my mom says okay so Micaellaâs grandma aka my mother has been talking about her weight and we left Maryland because of her behavior and she moved to Florida yesterday and well she found out that Micaella transferred and she texted her more insults. She says oh no and my mom says thatâs why sheâs crying so if you see a contact saying grandma please block her and hold my daughter. She says i will right now and Nika blocks my grandma and takes me out of Paigeâs arms and she holds me. I bury my head into her chest as she rocks me gently. Nika says girls can you pack things up letâs just have a movie night and order pizza. They all say okay and she carries me inside. I look down and I put my legs around her waist. Paige watches us and she awwws.

Bria was on the floor of the bathroom getting her diaper changed for the first time. She hated it because it was uncomfortable. Elisa placed her on top of a towel with another towel supporting her head, but it was still very unpleasant. They went to a Saturday afternoon doctorâs appointment where they talked about her inability to use the bathroom. She was having accidents and it made her very embarrassed. The doctor let her know it was nothing to be ashamed of.
She gave them a brand that would fit and feel like underwear. Tears were going down her face. They let her voice her thoughts and feelings. It was her body and she had a right to talk about her feelings. It wasnât fair. This shouldnât happen until she was in her eighties or nineties. But she was in her early twenties. It wasnât her fault.
After letting her get everything out, the doctor asked if she could try them. Yes. She asked for privacy. That meant only the people taking care of her could know about them. Elisa absolutely agreed to that. They would respect her privacy. Thank you. She wiped her tears off of her face. Elisa then got instructions on how to check to see if they needed to be changed and how to change them. The instructions were printed out, so she could look back at them if she ever needed to.
They went to Target, where they picked out three pairs of diapers. One was for during the day, one was for at night and one was for swimming. They were hidden under the other groceries. Elisa taped her list to her wheelchair as Mike did. It was a great way of having her participate in the shopping. She also made the experience fun by joking around with her.
âDonât forget the baby food.â
âIs that what it is?â
âThatâs what it looks like. Itâs mine and Mikeâs favorite joke.â
They went back to her and Bradâs place to put the groceries away before going back to Briaâs. After taking a bath, she put her into nighttime diapers before putting her pajamas on. She put her back into her wheelchair before washing her hands. How did they feel? She looked over at her. They felt like underwear. Good! Then they got the right ones.
When it was over, they decided not to talk about it anymore. It was eight in the evening, so she wanted to zoom around because she had too much energy. That sounded like a perfect plan. As she wrote about their day in the notebook, she zoomed around the house. In an unfair life, she needed to have some happiness. Elisa noticed that Kristin had written about her and Kevin staying with her. It was a great day. She took about an hour and a half nap after lunch.
They then went on a walk around the neighborhood. She was a little nervous about going over an uneven patch of sidewalk, but she did it. The reason for her being nervous was because she didnât know if she would tip over. They ran into a woman walking her dog, Lenny. She put him on her lap and let her pet him. Lenny sniffed her hand and licked it, which she loved!
When they got home, they continued hanging out until she came over. Kristin also noted that Kevin fed the cats, but they didnât change the litter because they didnât know if it had been done or not. Bria couldnât remember if Mike did it before he left.
âIncoming. Wheelchair incoming.â
She turned around and saw her with Rascal on her lap. Meow. Elisa called her a silly goof. She imagined her laughing as she turned around and went in the opposite direction. Before volunteering to help out, she didnât know Bria that well. She only met her while she was battling cancer but Brad told her about their history. That included their abortion.
They were talking about and planning on getting engaged. He even had a ring. The reason why it never happened was because Mike talked to him about what being married to her would be like. He asked him truly if he would be willing to take care of her. It wouldnât be a fifty-fifty relationship. He decided that he wasnât ready for that. What did he do with the ring? He gave it to his brother for when he got engaged. Bria never found out about it. He didnât want her to know.
He regretted hurting her. That was why he was so happy she married Mike. She was a little upset because she felt that he lied to her by omission. He listened to her and he agreed with everything she said because she was right. Bria deserved better. Why did they choose abortion?
âWe just found out that she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. It was progressing very rapidly up her spinal cord to her brain. If we waited for her to deliver, she would have likely died. The chemotherapy wasnât good for the baby because it would have developed complications. We had to choose which life to save. She named our baby, Jean Donald Delson.â
âYou knew the gender?â
No, they just guessed. They had a weekend to grieve because she started chemotherapy on Monday morning. She thought about the baby who wasnât born. They had to make a choice that nobody should ever have to make. Has he grieved? Yes, he has. He cried and asked for forgiveness. Not from God but from their unborn baby.
He liked to think that he or she would understand because it helped him move forward. Mike was there when they made the decision. She talked to him privately and asked if there was any motive behind not having Brad marry Bria. He denied it.
âWhen I asked if he was ready to marry her, I wanted to make sure he knew what he was getting himself into. I didnât want either of them to get hurt. My intention was not to push him out of the way, so I could marry her.â
She decided to believe him because she didnât have any proof of the contrary. He thanked her for that.
âShe doesnât know and she wonât ever know. It would break her heart and possibly kill her.â
âIâm just going to pretend that I never had this conversation with you or Brad because Iâm too upset with you guysâ, she said almost in tears.
That conversation happened a year ago. Since then, they both apologized to her. She wasnât going to tell Bria because it wasnât her job. It was theirs.
After zooming around the house for about an hour, Bria came back to her. The look on her face indicated she was running low on battery and was ready for bed. She confirmed that to be true. It was nine, so going to bed was the perfect idea.
They both went to her room. Did she want to watch a movie or go to sleep? She wanted to go to sleep. Okay. She helped her to bed and hooked her up to her medical equipment before saying good night. After getting up, she turned off the light and closed the door behind her.

Day 4- Traveller verses Tourist
Mark and I love to travel and hopefully our kids will continue to travel throughout their lives. Today was a laid back day compared to our last couple and we just got to be. Mark had some business to catch up on and so the girls and I sat on the deck reading about the various animals around here- lions, termites, pythons etc. The girls chased a gecko around the house and then we took the dogs for a walk around the block. When you are walking in a non-touristy area, I always feel like you get the vibe of place. You say hi to those you pass, you observe gardens and hear the sounds. It is quite lovely and with the dogs, I feel like we have a reason to get out. No donkeys charged us today so it was quite a peaceful walk. Most of the people we passed were those that work in the homes. Most have security at their gates and I would guess that many have people that come in to clean. The place we are staying there is a wonderful woman named Josephine who comes 3 times a week and does our laundry, washes the floors, cleans the kitchen and the bathrooms. It feels a bit strange but it also is lovely!
After our walk we headed over to a friend of Aileenâs house where we will have Christmas dinner and over tea we planned our menu. Â As we were leaving, we had to pull over as there was a momma and a baby warthog wandering the neighbourhood! A few blocks later we saw a bigger group with two babies. We then borrowed JDâs truck to head to the grocery store to start provisioning for our camping trip. Driving is a bit of adventure for us! The roads are narrow and in bad repair so you are often sitting at an angle due to one set of tires on the road and the other on the dirt shoulder. Of course driving on the right hand side just adds to it as does our limited knowledge of where we are going or how to get there.
We stopped for lunch at a beautiful little café as we watched the door to the grocery store get locked. Apparently as it is a holiday (Independence Day), most shops close at 2 but we had no idea. The server filled us in on what was going on and also provided a suggestion of another store.
When travelling I always have the issue with wanting to eat what the locals eat but not really understanding what that is or how to cook it and finding food that I know how to prepare. In the veggie section there we two workers that didnât seem to be doing anything so I asked for their âhelp. I picked up the Arrow Root and asked what it was and how to prepare it. We ended up making chips and I also learned from JD and Aileen that it is also called âcasavaâ which Iâve heard of but canât recall if I have tried. Anyways, it turned out great and went well with hamburgers. I also bought some greens that they told me were spinach. It doesnât look like any spinach I have ever seen so we will see how it tastes.
A lovely day just enjoying being in Kenya

Dating Corey Cunningham HC's
Pre Michael:
Calls you by your name for the first couple of months because heâs too shy to call you a pet name - he doesnât wanna be disrespectful. Like boy bffr, you can call me whatever you wantÂ
Likes to link pinkies when walking - literally touch starved so please hold this boy (But not too fast cause he may have a heart attack)
God forbid you get hurt, man will burst into tears for you but after that, heâs your personal nurse bandaging you up and giving your injury a kiss to make it feel better
Loves loves LOVES forehead and cheek kisses, total sucker for sweet gentle affection
Can and will cook you breakfast and make your lunches. Complete male wife - fusses so much over whether or not you ate that he forgets to take care of himself. âY/N did you eat today?â âDid you?â â....Weâre talking about you right now.â
After a bad day, he comes in and just face-plants into your chest - baby just needs some TLC
Follows you like a puppy dog everywhere, just completely enamored with every little thing you do
CAN NOT hold his alcohol, he is so cute drunk - if you thought he was clingy before, itâs 100x worse better once thereâs some drink in him
Speaking of alcohol, it really is liquid courage cause mans starts getting bold - from wallflower to grinding up behind you grabbin up on your hips, but in the morning heâs on the brink of tears apologizing if he made you uncomfortableÂ
Secretly jealous of anyone, but way too shy to say anything, hands clenched so tight his knuckles turn white - What if you were gonna leave him? Heâs about to have a panic attack for real
Thrives off domesticity - just doing chores together makes him pop a chub - really wants to marry tf out of you
Post Michael:
Not only is this man now brave enough to hold your hand in public, but heâs also wrapping an arm around your shoulder, around your waist, and if sitting, that hand is clasped tight around your thigh - you are his and everyone in that godforsaken town was gonna know itÂ
PDA PDA PD- ok yeah heâs kissing you in public - now youâre the one whoâs shy when heâs grabbin you by the back of the head to pull you into a smooch in the grocery store (and all because some worker in the bakery section looked at you)
Did someone say new nicknames? Cause new nicknames. âHello, love.â âBaby, can you come here for a sec?â âThey bothering you, sweetheart? Want me to take care of them?â âDonât worry, honey, Iâll keep you safe.â âMine.â Lord help meÂ
Ever since he met Michael in the sewers, Coreyâs ready at any moment to take out any inconvenience from your life *cough* *cough* especially people - he will kill anyone for you, just say the word, please say the word
He may be different but heâs still that sweet boy underneath the murderous rage. Constantly asks if you still like him and if youâll stay with him no matter what
Clingy? Nah heâs glued to your hip now, there is no such thing as personal space - set boundaries or this man or he will try to follow you to the bathroom (Thatâs an exaggeration - heâd just stand outside the door lol)
Takes you on joy rides on his motorcycle and will go faster just so you will hold onto him tighter Â
Still crys if youâre hurt but immediately wants to kill the thing that caused your injury - and if it was a person that hurt you, he will find them and it will be a very dragged-out torture. NO ONE hurts his baby
Jealous? Jealous. Shoots daggers at anyone who takes more than 5 minutes of your time, but the second you turn back to him, he softens right back up to your puppy dog - but will now actually complain. âI didnât like how he was looking at you.â âCorey, he was literally just asking me if I wanted cash or credit.â âSo?â
Dishes out sass now âCorey, honey, I donât want blood in my sheets, go wash up.â âWhy donât you make me?âÂ
*Maniacal laughter* I'm gonna make a NSFW HC and none of you can stop me!!!

for the ask meme: could you do đ„¶ and đ? i absolutely LOVE your writing đ
Another VERY old ask that I'm so sorry for not getting to earlier!
đ„¶- chills and shivers đ - sofa naps
A knew they were sick. They'd known it from the moment they woke up that morning with a tickle in their throat, their eyes tired and arms weirdly weak and shaky. They'd known, but ignored it. They didn't have time to be sick.
So they'd gone into their shift at the grocery store just like on a regular day, fighting to ignore the tiredness that seemed to weigh them down from head to foot, worsening the longer they stood there, or the fierce chills that the strong A/C wasn't helping one bit. It was October, did they really need to leave it up that high?
Due to one of their coworkers already being down sick (another reason why they couldn't just stay home) and shifts being wonky, they barely got a lunch break. It didn't matter - they weren't hungry anyway.
By the time their day ended and they hobbled out into the damp, windy evening, their bones felt like they were made of lead. A cough had started up in their chest sometime in the afternoon, at first occasional and swiftly becoming unavoidable, and they were so dead exhausted they could barely stand, let alone walk. It took all the effort they had to first drag themselves onto their bus home, and then stay awake once they were in their seat. They allowed themselves the window as a prop, startled at how soothing the cool glass felt against their cheek. Logically, they knew they were probably feverish, but with the chills gripping them head to toe they hadn't realized how warm their face was.
It started to rain. A watched the icy pellets patter against the windows, too tired even to feel dread at the thought of walking the rest of the way home in all that.
They were half asleep by the time their stop was announced, and had to shake themselves to so much as process the fact that they had to get off.
Clambouring down from their seat was painful, their limbs sore and stiff and not cooperating, but stepping outside was definitely worse. The rain had quickly become a downpour, and within only a few minutes of being in it they were soaked to the skin and shivering harder than before.
One more step, they told themselves as the ground swayed under them. Just one more. They kept up this mantra until, dizzy and ready to collapse, they found themselves at the door to their apartment.
It took them almost a full minute to get inside, their brain not working fast enough to remember where their keys were at first, their hands so shaky getting the thing into the door once they did was an effort. But they were home. Finally, they were home.
A peeled off their wet jacket and boots, considered changing out of the damp shirt and jeans they'd been wearing all day, only to conclude even that was too much of an effort. They curled up just as they were on the couch, just enough strength left in their limbs to pull an old blanket around themselves. Their last thought before they drifted into an uneasy sleep was that they'd forgotten to leave the front light on for their roommate when they got home later that evening.
Strange and awful dreams plagued them. They thought they heard voices calling their name, but when they looked around for the source of it they saw only a little bird down a hallway ahead of them, piping out its song. Then they got closer and the bird was the size of a car, and when it opened its beak it let out a terrible scream...A turned and ran but it was like running through molasses and the floor seemed to be falling out from under them...then they were lying in some icy, barren landscape with only a three legged dog for company, walking around with its tail as a fourth foot and singing Christmas songs...
I just want to go home, they thought desperately. How far away was home? How had they gotten here, anyway?
A tree branch swung down and tugged at their clothing like a long, clawlike finger. "Stop," they muttered, their voice hoarse. "Please, just let go of me..."
"A? I think you're having a bad dream, it's just me. Come on, wake up."
With a gasp and a dry cough, A emerged and found themselves in their own living room, in their apartment. Their heart was pounding, the blanket around them had been kicked away in their sleep but someone had laid another over them, tucking it up to their shoulders.
That "someone" was sitting on the edge of the sofa beside them, looking deeply concerned. "Hey there," said their roommate, B. "You were thrashing around in your sleep...I thought it would be best to wake you up from whatever that was."
They'd been sweating, the now icy layer of perspiration only adding to the dampness of their clothes, making them shiver so hard their teeth chattered. B's face above them seemed to split in two, the two Bs blurring back together. A squeezed their eyes shut.
"Thanks," they said, feeling like they'd swallowed glass. "Sorry - I didn't mean to upset you..."
"You didn't. Are you okay? No offence, but you look terrible."
A ran a shaky hand over their face, feeling distantly the heat of their skin. "I'm...I think I might be a bit sick. I think."
B let out something that was close to a snort. "You think?" Their hand came to A's forehead and it was all they could do not to beg them to keep it there, so wonderful was the cool relief. Their frown deepened. "I'm going to get you some water. You just stay here, okay?"
As if they had the energy to do anything else. A lay there silently, trying to ignore the way the walls around them tilted and swayed as if they were on a rocking ship. One thought penetrated the walls of their exhausted brain - B knew. They didn't like people being near them when they were sick. They didn't like anyone knowing. It was much less overwhelming to just deal with it on their own time, in their own way.
"Here you go." B was back, holding a glass of water in one hand and a thick winter blanket in the other. Despite their unwillingness to accept help, A almost cried in relief at the sight.
B helped them sit up to drink, a feat that left them so weak and dizzy they seriously didn't think they'd ever be able to move again. But when they unfolded that blanket A wrapped it tight around themselves without hesitation. "Cold, were you?" said B with a sympathetic look.
"Freezing," they answered. In all honesty, the blanket did little to help. They were still chilled to the bone.
B plucked at their damp sleeve. "You should change out of this. Did you get caught in the rain?"
A nodded, still shuddering. B gave a pitying sigh. "Why don't you get some dry clothes on before you do anything else, hm? Do you want me to help you get to your room?"
"I - I don't think I can," they said. They didn't think they'd be able to stand in their state, let alone find their way into their room without collapsing.
B looked at them. "Then I'll do you one better. Wait here."
They left before A could protest, and came back later with a pair of sweatpants and their warmest hoodie. "These'll do. Get changed, take your time. Don't worry - I'm not looking."
As weak as they were A had no choice but to take their time, slowly untangling themselves from the couch and burying their shaky limbs in the warmer clothes, relieved more than anything to just be dry again.
When they were done and curled back up on the sofa B turned around cautiously. "Made it okay? Good." They picked up A's damp clothes from where they'd dumped them unceremoniously on the carpet. "I'll throw these in the drier for you."
"You don't need to," said A through chattering teeth. "I'll - I'll get it myself - "
"Hush." B pulled the blankets back over them in a motherly sort of way. "You stay right here. I'll be back."
"No - B - wait -" A reached out and grabbed hold of their sleeve, the only action they had the energy to complete. "You don't have to help me. You don't have to do anything. I can take care of myself."
Before they knew it tears were in their eyes and they had to fight not to let them fall. Even they couldn't understand why they felt so deeply anxious about it. Only that they felt like they didn't even know B, they'd only been roommates for a little while, and the thought of them trying to do too much for them was far worse than the thought of just having to power through it by themselves.
"Hey, don't get upset," said B, resting a hand on their cheek. "Please don't be upset. I promise not to baby you or anything - I just think you need a bit of help right now." They paused, brushing the hair tentatively away from A's eyes. "I don't like seeing you hurting, that's all. It would help me if you let me help you a little."
That was too much. The tears they had been hiding slid out silently onto the pillow - the same one they buried their face in to hide this fact. "I'm sorry," they muttered. "I shouldn't be this upset. I just - I really do feel that bad."
The hand started to stroke their hair. This was really, really too much. "I know. I'm sorry. I know it's hard but just - try to let me help, okay? Let me know what you need and I'll do my best."
A wasn't sure what spurred it, but they let their fingers slide down from B's sleeve to entwine with their own. "Okay. Thank you. You're too nice, B."
B squeezed their hand. "I think I'm just nice enough."

He really likes holding hands, though itâs more of a calming habit for him. Holding hands keeps him grounded, and acts as an anchor for his anxiety; so heâll grab and/or fidget with yours periodically.
Heâll steal your skincare if heâs over at your place, but honestly he just starts⊠copying it lmfao. Like, heâll take notice of your face wash when heâs over heâs like âOh, this is niceâ and then a week later, he buys a bottle for himself. Then he buys your toner, and your moisturizer, and you stay over at his place and gotta do a double take bc heâs got damn near the same of everything at this point.
He doesnât know if he believes that classical music actually helps him to concentrate, but he does know that heâs grown to like it, so itâs become his studying music of choice. Heâs got favorite composers and everything.
Heâd be upset if you didnât steal his hoodies. Thatâs what theyâre there for. Heâll make you steal them if he has to.
He hates standing in line. For anything. If he likes a restaurant that gets super busy at lunch, heâll order ahead for pickup (and he feels special skipping the line). At amusement parks, he pays for the fast passes. If itâs shopping, then heâd rather just do it online.
On that note, he sucks at returning things that donât fit/he doesnât like when he shops online, so he honestly just keeps them, or gives them to his friendsâitâs much easier than going through the hassle of printing a return label, according to him.
nsfw
He likes the idea of recording you guys during sex, but heâs honestly a little too nervous to do itânervous about being recorded himself, and about it potentially getting out somewhere.
Likes it when you look him in the eyes when you cum. In fact, he somewhat demands it.
Similarly, heâs always watching you during sex. Mostly your face, for indications of how heâs making you feel and when youâre close to your orgasm (which is why heâs got a thing for you looking at him).
He used to hate masturbating, until he tried masturbating to the idea of you, and now he fucking loves that. He takes his time with it tooâif heâs gonna jack off, heâs gonna make a moment of it: sit on his bed, turn the lights off, make sure heâs all alone and can go for as long as he wants.
Threesomes are fine with him, and he doesnât even have to be the sole one in charge, depending on whoâs joining you.
ARMIN sfw
He air-dries the majority of his clothes because he doesnât want his sweaters and knitwear to shrink. Also, he likes the smell of his fabric softener permeating the room while the clothes dry.
On a similar note, heâs got sensitive skinânot to the point where a shirt less than 75% cotton irritates him; but he is conscious of fabrics and products he uses. Because of this, he takes extra care with his laundry, his pillowcases and bedsheets are satin as are the majority of his pajama shirts, and he never ever walks around without house slippers or heâll irritate the bottom of his feet.
Heâs scared of bugs, but he doesnât like to kill them either. Honestly, he just kinda hopes spiders and stuff will crawl away without him intervening đđ
He likes board games, and has a thing for The Game of Life. He cannot play chess, even though most people would guess that he could, and heâs begun to practice by playing online versions against computers to learn.
He knows everyoneâs gossip because everyone comes to him to gossip. And if heâs the therapist friend, then youâre the person who receives the summary of all the tea from him at the end of the week. And man can this boy throw a bitch fest when heâs in the right mood.
nsfw
Heâs got a bit of an oral fixation, so he really likes having your mouth occupied; with his fingers, with your panties, with his dickâheâs not really picky.
Likes sex with the lights on. Claims itâs because he wants to âsee all of youâ (itâs really because heâs nervous heâll fuck something up if he canât see properly đđ)
He really likes making out. Like, a lot. Though itâs not something that happens oftenâso he builds up a lot of frustrating thinking about it, and it all comes crashing down, and ends up with you guys damn near dry humping each other on the couch for two hours.
Thatâs something that applies to him generally, tooâhe tends to let himself get very frustrated and worked up, whether he means to or not. He also thinks about sex quite frequently, and it only fuels his frustration; so when he snaps, he snaps hard.
Heâd let you choke him back if you asked. Just ask nicely.
JEAN sfw
Loves studying in cafés and adores when you study with him; peeps up at you periodically when you sit across from him. He always pays for your drink, but sometimes you guys share, and he likes making a game out of reaching for the cup at the same time as you.
Heâs very chivalrous, but he hates when you call him out for it, or make any kind of deal of it. He knows itâs chivalry, but he also knows itâs the bare minimum, plus heâs easily embarrassedâespecially in public.
Loves having his hair played with, absolutely adores it. If youâre just holding his face, or resting your hand on his cheek, heâll move himself further into your touch to maneuver your palm closer to his hair.
He really really really likes back hugsâgiving and receiving them. If heâs standing behind you, heâll most likely reach for a hug at some point (sometimes he wonât let go and youâve gotta waddle with him on you). His ears get red when you give him a back hug but he always uses a hand to rest over your arms to tell you that he doesnât want you to let go.
He can play the piano, but he doesnât tell a soul about it. The only reason you found out it through his mom. Heâs got stage fright, so he gave up on performing, but heâs really talented, and can almost play any song by ear.
nsfw
He loves the feeling of your hands on him, particularly if youâve got long nails. Please scrape your nails against his back, or even just dig them into his biceps while heâs fucking you, itâll drive him insane.
Along with liking having his hair played with, he adores having it pulled onâthe attention and desperation in your actions goes straight to his ego and his dick.
One of his biggest fantasies is getting a lap dance from you. Heâd never ever fucking say it out loud or dream of asking for it, but the idea of you stripping in front of him, down to lingerie heâd picked out for you, and teasing him until he canât take it anymore and jumps you is something he thinks about⊠far more often than he should.
If youâre wearing his clothes (especially one of his t-shirts to bed, or around his apartment), heâs gonna fuck you in it. Jean has a lot of self control, but thatâs one thing thatâll make him snap in an instant. And if you wear his shirt or hoodie out, heâs fucking you when you get home, itâs as simple as that.
CONNIE sfw
He studies with childrenâs shows playing the background. He doesnât remember how he discovered that his method works for him, all he knows is that something about Paw Patrol makes for excellent background noise for writing his research papers.
Heâs quite touchy with PDA, but if you guys are in a crowd then forget about itâbecause Connie might forget about you. Heâs definitely left you at the grocery store before.
He eats cereal for breakfast every morning, and heâs kind of got a collection of them in his kitchen. He claims there are upscale cereals that he doesnât just let anybody eat or even touch; so, if he offers you a midnight snack consisting of a bowl of his favorite (and very rare) cereal, then be honored.
He almost always pays with cash, but he hates change. If he gets back coins, he either tells the cashier to keep them, puts them in a tip jar if thereâs one in sight, or just pours them into your coat pocket. He understands that its money, but heâll be damned if heâs just got a sack full of nickels clanging around in his bag.
nsfw
He claims he doesnât have a thing for exhibitionism, but with the way heâs down to fuck damn near anywhere, he might be a bold faced liar. Changing rooms, music festivals, airport bathrooms, the little corner of the multilevel parking lot that heâs oh-so-certain is in the blindspot of the security cameras... there are so few things off-limits with him.
Car sex on his bucket list⊠just not in his car lmfao (because trust and believe thatâs something that already happens pretty regularly). Maybe his real kink is vandalism and destruction of property.
He is not above begging you to sit on his face. He will get on his knees and pant like a fucking dog for you to do it, heâs so serious. Heâll do it laying down, heâll do it with you standing up/against a wall, heâll do it on the couch. Break his neck please heâs fucking asking for it.
He doesnât mind sharing and he definitely doesnât mind watching. Honestly, heâd egg you on to kiss someone else at a party, or go as far as to seduce you into seducing someone else just so he can watch it go down.
PORCO sfw
He sends you iMessage games but only the ones heâs good at because he doesnât like to lose. But also, if he is losing, he doesnât want you to be supportive about it and tell him âitâs okay uwuâ lmfao he wants to either cream you, or have you kick his ass; competition is the name of the game, donât be soft on him.
Heâs a morning person, and he likes going on runs or even just early-morning walks when the weather is nice. He will wake you up occasionally to join himâand if youâre a homebody, you will be joining him. He wonât be responsible for watching you decompose on the couch.
Very picky about his pizza. Itâs not a calorie or grease or health thingâhe just really fucking likes pizza, and he wonât excuse a bad slice.
Always pulls you closer to him in a crowd or when a group of people are walking by. He doesnât have to, but he likes to. Tease him about it and heâll push you right back tho, probably into a shrub if thereâs one near by.
nsfw
Heâs such a âNo, noâanswer the callâ kind of mf; a sadist, if you will. He lives for torturing and embarrassing you, and that applies to sex, too.
Loves the way his hands look on you, particularly splaying his hand over your stomach when heâs fucking you. Likes the heat of your body against his, when he positions himself just right to feel the outline of his dick against you, and squeezing the sides of your tummy when he gets lost in it.
Loves blowjobs, and loves to cum on you or over your face. His favorite thing tho is pulling away just before heâs about to orgasm, and jacking himself off with your tongue sticking out, ready to swallow.
Okay with threesomes, too; but he wouldnât like to do much to or with the third person. Itâs okay if they touch youâmaybe even fuck you, depending on who it isâbut heâs not there to get them off.
LEVI
sfw
When he cooks dinner, he always makes sure to make enough for you to have leftovers to take with you for lunch the following day. Especially if itâs a dish youâve been wanting or try, or specifically asked him to cook.
Heâs got a specific tote bag he brings with him to the grocery store/farmerâs market, and separate one for when heâs running other light errands.
He hates soda, not even just because itâs not the healthiest thing to drinkâhe just doesnât like the feel of carbonated drinks; the only exception being when theyâre mixed with liquor, but even then, itâs not his preference.
After a while, he just starts lying and says youâre married at places where it benefits you both, or to curb a longer conversation about the status of your relationship to people who are inquiring. He thinks itâs fucking weird that marriage is what shuts people up, but if it works, it works; less people prying in your guysâ business.
He likes giving you forehead kisses, and if you do it back, heâll learn that he doesnât mind receiving them either.
Heâs such a sucker for you rubbing your thumb against the back of his hand when you guys hold hands. He might not act like he notices, but he always does; and somewhat craves little touches like that the longer you guys are together.
nsfw
He would never admit it to anyone, but birthday sex is up there for his favorite kind of sex. He never cared much about his birthday⊠until he realized he could get that as a gift. He knows itâs not different, but he likes it, nonetheless; one the few times he doesnât mind having all the attention on him.
King of aftercare, though some of his methods usually lead to another roundâin which he teases you for cancelling out his work, when you know he was just as willing and eager.
He likes edging himself and overstimulating you; and with his self-control, that makes for a pretty dangerous combination.
Heâs strong and he knows how to use it to his advantage: maneuvering you with a single arm, holding both your wrists above your head with one hand, pushing your head down into the sheets when heâs fucking you from behind.
Sex is one of the few times Levi doesnât mind making a messâand in fact, he likes it messy; watching you drip onto the sheets, making you spit on his dick and fucking your face until you drool. He always goes on about how sloppy you are, how you canât keep anything clean, but he fucking loves it.

Dodger Knows Best
Pairing: Chris Evans x Wife!Reader
Word Count: ~1k
Summary: Dodgerâs been acting strange since quarantine started. Does he know something that we donât?
Warning: Fluff, of course
A/N: Inspired by Chrisâs reading of âIf You Give a Mouse a Cookieâ at the beginning of COVID. Only took me a year to write đ
My Masterlist
I couldnât stop giggling as I hear my husband reading aloud in the other room. I try my best not to make too much noise though, I donât want to ruin the video. When he was asked to read a childrenâs book during this trying time weâre currently in, he couldnât have said yes fast enough. Being the big kid he is, I know how excited he was to do it.Â
Every day he finds new ways to give back to those who have lost their jobs and those who are missing school. He knows how important education is, especially right now. So he made it his goal to do at least one thing to help people per day during this quarantine.
Oh, what a wonderful world we live in right now...
This time spent at home has been much needed, but equally frustrating. I havenât felt well for a few months now, prior to this pandemic. Getting to stay home, sleep in, not put on a bra or real clothes, cuddling my husband and our boy Dodger has been comforting. Itâs frustrating that Iâve been stuck in the house, not able to leave for almost two weeks. The small amount of freedom that I get from walking Dodger is going to be taken away sooner rather than later in order to try and stop this pandemic.
Chris has enjoyed being home as much as Iâve loved having him home. However, I know he wants to get back to work. There are some projects heâs been most anxious to work on that are now on hold.
Heâs been super protective of me since heâs been home. Heâs insisted on doing anything that has to do with possibly interacting with another human being- getting groceries, take-out, other necessities. Dodger also hasnât left my side since Iâve been home. Chris was insulted at first, claiming I stole his buddy. I just figured he was happy I was home.
âAnd chances are if he gets some apple juice, heâll want a donut to go with it.â
I giggle again, unable to contain it. I hear the amusement in his tone as he concludes his video. I finish making lunch and join him in the living room, Dodger following at my feet. âHow was it?â
âA little weird reading to my phone, but,â he smiles up at me, âI enjoyed it.â
âAre you going to read to our kids someday?â I set down his plate before sitting next to him.
âAbso-freaking-lutely! I canât wait.â An even bigger smile took over his entire face as the thought crosses his mind. Weâve talked about having kids since before we got married. He loves being around his niece and nephews and it shows just how much he yearns for a family of his own. When we officially became a family of two plus Dodger, we immediately started trying. Weâve had some close calls, but all false alarms.
Until yesterday morning.
âHow were those top secret errands you just had to do alone this morning?â He asks after taking a bite of his sandwich.
âThat reminds me!â I get back up and head to the bedroom, where I hid a present in my side of the closet. I pull the plastic bag out from behind some of my maxi dresses, taking the contents out before bending down to Dodger.Â
I struggle to put him in the small t-shirt I bought him. Heâs a wiggle worm and wouldnât stop trying to lick my face. Once itâs secure, I take my phone out, open the camera app and snap a few pictures before switching to video mode.Â
After hitting the red record button, I stand up again. âAlright Dodger, letâs go get Daddy!â As I start walking, heâs just barely ahead of me. We head back into the living room.
He immediately cracks up when he sees Dodger with his new shirt. He asks how I even managed to get it on him, giving him some love and multiple kisses on his muzzle. I command for Dodger to sit, which he obeys. Chris kneels down to try and read what the shirt says. Dodger makes it hard since all he wants to do is lick Chrisâs face. It takes a few tries before Dodger finally sits still enough for him to read it.
I wait with bated breath, biting my lips trying to hide the biggest smile. Weâve waited so long for this moment. Iâve imagined how I was going to tell him about a hundred times when it was finally confirmed and we were passed the safe mark.
He looks up at me with his mouth agape. âAre you serious?â
I peek from behind my phone and nod. âThatâs what the errand was.â
âWait, really?â
âI wanted to confirm it before telling you.â I hoped he wouldnât be mad that I didnât bring him to the first doctorâs appointment. With how many close calls weâve had, I wanted to be doubly sure that it was happening before even getting remotely excited about the prospect.
âSo, youâre sure?â He stands up and comes closer to me. âYouâre pregnant?â The biggest smile Iâve ever seen on my husbands face takes over. I nod. âWeâre having a baby?â I see the tears building in his eyes. He scoops me up in his arms. He spins around, exclaiming âWeâre having a baby!â
âNow it all makes sense why Dodge hasnât left my side.â Dogs have that kind of intuition. He must have sensed the change in me before even I knew what was happening.
âOf course he knew.â He rolls his eyes before turning his gaze down to the all-knowing pup. He sits there in his âBabyâs First Bodyguardâ t-shirt, smiling up at us as if confirming that yes, he is the all-knowing.Â
I guess Chris and I learned an important lesson: always listen to Dodger for he knows best.

Fire Dogs
The fires had been blazing for weeks now, inching closer and closer to your home and firefighters were pouring in. Youâd decided to stay, the fire was mostly moving away from town, thank god. The mayor had said that people who were willing to stay and help care for the hordes of firefighters pouring into town were appreciated. So even though you were a single Omega, youâd signed up. You could take in 2-6 firefighters depending on if they were willing to share a bed with one another and if you needed to sleep on the couch. Youâd been assigned 3 men, all from New York City, one a Captain and all of them Alphas.
When you open the door as they walk up your sidewalk the first, a man with light hair and blue eyes, gives you a tight smile.
âHi, welcome. I have a dog, is that okay?â The three men donât even have to look at one another before all nodding yes. âGreat, come on in.â You move out of the doorway and the three men come into the house.
âThank you so much for opening your home to us.â The first man says, god he smells good, like sandalwood and lavender.
âItâs the least I could do.â You introduce yourself as your dog comes trotting into the room, Cooperâs tail wagging wildly. âBut you can call me Fawn, and this is Cooper.â
âSorry, Iâm Steve Rogers, this is Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson.â The first man says introducing himself and the two men with him.
âItâs a pleasure. Iâll show you guys to your rooms.â You lead them upstairs and show them each to a room. Bucky takes your first spare room, Sam the second and Steve is in the master.
âBuck, youâve got third shift, Sam youâre on first and Iâm on second.â
âDo we start today?â Bucky asks as you make your way downstairs, you were given a small packet for the guys, things you would need to know like allergies, presentation, emergency contacts and dietary restrictions. All three are simple, no dietary issues, no allergies, Alphas, Sam has his wife Carol as his emergency contact but Steve and Bucky, or James as heâs listed, both have Rebecca Barnes, Buckyâs sister.
You get started on dinner and Sam wanders down into the kitchen bringing his
âSo, why didnât you leave town?â
âNowhere to go. And the fire is heading away from here so hopefully everything will stay away from town.â
âThe smoke doesnât bother you?â
âI mean itâs not great but as long as Coop and I are okay I plan on staying. Iâve got some stuff packed up in my car and ready to go but I just havenât pulled the trigger yet.â
âThatâs fair. We do really appreciate you doing this. Letting us stay here.â Heâs got such a soothing presence about him that you forget heâs an Alpha until his scent washes over you.
âItâs the least I can do,â you tell him with a smile, âso what does first shift mean?â
âOh, itâs the really early shift, like 4am. Steve will be out running a crew since heâs a Captain back home and heâs around 10am then Bucky is 4pm.â
âWhat will I need for you in the morning? Breakfast? Coffee? Energy bars?â
âCoffee would be great. I usually take it with milk.â You jot down coffee and milk on a sheet of paper.
âHow do the other two take their coffee?â
âBarnes likes it black, like a psychopath and Steve likes it with cream and sugar so he canât taste the coffee.â You laugh and jot down creamer.
âAny chance you know what kind of creamer he likes?â
âCaramel I think.â
âI can always ask him too. Iâll set the coffee to go off at 3:15 for you.â
âThank you.â Sam says as he sits down at the island. âWhat are you making for dinner?â
âSpaghetti. I make the sauce from scratch, from the garden.â
âIt smells great.â
âThanks, should be about a half hour. Iâve got meatballs in the oven and will have some garlic bread and green beans from my garden too.â
âYouâre going to spoil us huh?â He says with a grin and you laugh, hoping that your suppressants work like theyâre supposed to and keep you presenting as a Beta.
âI donât get to cook for others often so Iâm being a little selfish. Let me know if you need anything from town or want me to get anything. Iâll go shopping for the week tomorrow.â
âAre they paying you to host us?â
âNo, but I donât mind getting you guys stuff.â
âAre you sure?â
âAbsolutely, I wouldnât offer if it was a problem.â You assure him and after studying you he nods.
âIâll be sure to let the guys know.â You chat with Sam while you cook. You learn that his wife Carol is an Alpha and a doctor. The Alpha/Alpha pair is uncommon but if it works for them thatâs wonderful. You also learn that he, Bucky and Steve served together and that Carol had outranked all three.
It seems that Steve has always been the one to lead their little trio, and when the smell of dinner lures him and Bucky down you include them in the conversation. Bucky, whose scent is oranges and cedar wood, is more chatty and flirty than Steve is but thereâs this quiet strength about Steve thatâs impossible not to notice.
Sam goes to bed immediately after dinner but Steve and Bucky stay up and watch the news with you. You set the coffee machine for Sam and leave him a note to help himself to anything he wants to eat. Then you bring Cooper outside, he wanders your wildfire lit backyard, the orange glow is spooky and the smell of smoke is thick in the air.
âCome on Coop, itâs bedtime.â You tell him leading him to the living room. Both Steve and Bucky are gone so you change into your pajamas and get ready for bed in the bathroom then head back to the couch where Cooper is laying dead center. âMove it Coop.â He grumbles but gets down, once youâre settled you let him back up on the couch between your feet.
You wake up as Sam closes the fridge.
âSorry, I didnât mean to wake you.â He says softly. When he turns and sees you sitting up on the couch.
âNo itâs okay.â You tell him as Cooper hops off of the couch. You follow him to the back door and let him out.
âWhy are you sleeping on the couch?â
âThey needed three more beds so I gave them three more beds.â
âWe put you out of your room?â He asks with a small frown.
âI sleep more on the couch anyway, I usually fall asleep to one baking show or another.â You tell him with a sleepy smile, you hadnât meant to tell them theyâd taken all your beds but it was too late now.
âThis is your home.â
âSeriously Sam donât worry about it.â You say letting Cooper back into the house. âBe safe.â
âThanks.â He says and you go back to bed on the couch.
The next time you wake itâs 9:00 and you want to make sure that youâve got something ready for Bucky and Steve for breakfast so you get up. You feed Cooper then let him out again, if there wasnât the fire youâd let him stay outside as long as he wanted. You sit down on the couch and pull your tablet into your lap. Cooper joins you on the couch as you start to draw your characters.
âMorning.â Steveâs voice is low and soft when he greets you.
âGood morning. There are pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns and bacon in the oven. The pans will be warm.â
âThanks,â you hear him help himself to food and coffee then he comes out into the living room. âDo you mind if I join you?â
âNot at all. Donât let Coop fool you into any food though.â
âNo people food for him?â
âJust some fruit and veggies.â You tell him glancing up at the fire captain. âSo Sam said you guys were on a 4-10-4 start time but what time are you all home?â
âWeâre doing 12 hour shifts, so Sam and Buck donât overlap but I will with both.â
âOkay, Iâll have dinner ready when you get back. Is there anything that I donât have that you need? Sam said you liked a certain flavor of creamer.â
âThe French vanilla is fine.â
âHe said caramel?â You glance over at him again and he has this little shy smile on his face. âI donât mind, I need to go get groceries anyway.â
âCaramel is my favorite.â He admits and you nod then get back to your drawing. He finishes his breakfast in silence then puts his dishes into the dishwasher, Steve heads back upstairs and you hear him finish getting ready before he comes back down.
âBe safe.â
âThanks.â He says before closing the door softly behind him.
Bucky sleeps until almost noon, youâve taken breakfast out of the oven and put it in the fridge. He somehow looks groggy still and youâre worried he didnât sleep well.
âGood morning.â
âMorning. How are you?â His voice is low and husky.
âGood. Did you sleep okay?â
âYea I slept great. I could still be asleep to be honest but I might get called in early.â
âWhy?â
âThere are less guys at base camp right now. Apparently a group of them had some trouble on the way? I donât know but Steve called.â
âBreakfast is in the fridge if you wanna heat it otherwise I have lunch meat and stuff for sandwiches.â
âI love breakfast food.â He says making his way to the fridge. He starts a cup of coffee then opens the fridge.
You find out that Bucky is a chatter. Which is fine but youâre glad that youâre illustrating today rather than writing because thereâs no way youâd be able to focus on writing. He asks you about living in the small town, how you ended up here, about your job, when he finds out youâre an author and illustrator of childrenâs books he promises to buy his niece a couple books. You tell him to leave his address and youâll send him a signed copy of the one youâre working on, he excitedly does.
When he leaves at 3:30, not being called in early, you take a break and start on dinner. You want to make sure youâve got food ready for Sam when he gets back.
Sam comes in at 4:45, Cooper barks excitedly and Sam sinks to the ground and Cooper immediately calms allowing Sam to wrap his arms around him. You donât say anything, just continue to cook while Sam hugs Cooper to him. You hear him talking softly but you ignore him, whatever heâs saying to Coop is none of your business.
âIâm gonna go take a shower before I eat.â Sam says at full volume, the side of his face still pressed to Cooperâs side.
âThatâs fine,â you assure him, âIâve got about twenty minutes before the rice is done.â
âOkay.â He disappears then Cooper comes wandering into the kitchen. You give him a couple of treats and tell him what a good boy he is.
Sam eats in silence then goes up to his room, youâre pretty sure he goes to bed by 7 but after the day heâs had you canât blame him.
At 10 you start reheating food for when Steve comes in. Sure enough, 10:30 rolls in and so does Steve. Cooper greets Steve with a wagging tail, Steve gives him a little pat and heads upstairs. You hear the shower turn on and after around 10 minutes Steve is back dropping down on the couch as Cooper puts a head in his lap. Steve absently pets Cooper and you place a plate of food in front of him.
âThank you.â His tired eyes meet yours and he gives you a little half smile.
âItâs the least I can do.â You tell him sincerely. Cooper stays with his head in Steveâs lap until Steve goes upstairs to bed. You set up your bed on the couch and set your alarm for 3:30 in the morning so you can get food heated for Bucky and coffee and food started for Sam.
You fall asleep still smelling Steve on your couch.

Hey and I hope you have a nice day~ Can I request a headcanan of Rio with a clumsy s/o who always follow and stay by his side all the time? Thank you!! OwO âĄâĄ
ââ â⊠â âŠâ ââ
Pairing: Riou Busujima x reader
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: None
A/N: This was adorable, I can imagine how cute it would be for Riou to constantly be keeping an eye on you in youâre super clumsy! I wish I was clumsy just so Riou would catch me when I fall haha hope you enjoy~
â ââââ â â
ââ
â ââââ â
Riou loves how loyal you are to him and how youâre always following him around and staying by his side
heâs more than happy to take you along with him wherever he goes
and he loves that it means spending more time with you
Riou likes it when you come to find him after a long day at work and vent to him about your problems or feelings
and he enjoys just laying beside you and cuddling with you when heâs had a bad day and just wants to feel your presence
you always go out grocery shopping together, and your trips to the supermarket are the stuff of legends
the two of you are practically joined at the hip and everyone thinks itâs adorable but they also get easily annoyed by it
especially Samatoki and Juto who will always sigh and say that itâs not a good idea for Riou to bring a random citizen into a Yakuza hideout just because Riou wanted to bring Samatoki some lunch
Riou doesnât mind though and just waves his friends away because he loves you and he doesnât mind protecting you if that means youâll stay by his side more often
Riou protects you in more ways than one and this comes out a lot when he first realizes just how clumsy you are
sometimes heâll be walking along, talking to you, and heâll turn to face you and realize youâre not by his side anymore and that you tripped over the concrete a few steps back
heâs always going to your side to help you up, never laughing or making a joke out of it because he wants to make sure youâre okay
heâs not worried, per-say, just confused and wanting to make sure that you can make it home
âY/N, that was a nasty fall! Why donât you get on my back so I can make sure you get home safely!â
âRiou, I just tripped, Iâll be fine as long as I donât - oofâ
âY/N! Not again!â
he thinks your clumsiness is endearing though, and it makes you all the more cute in his eyes
especially when he manages to catch you before you fall because then he gets to hold you in his arms for a moment before pulling away to make sure youâre alright
sometime Riou doesnât really understand why youâre clumsy though - heâs a soldier so heâs extremely graceful and rarely ever trips
so heâll sometimes get confused when you bang into a table leg or something thatâs very obvious and heâll wonder why you didnât just...step to the side?
one time he just watched as you tripped and fell over nothing and to this day heâs still confused
but that wonât change the fact that heâll still want to help you
if you ever scrape yourself or get a bruise or something, heâs going to help you clean it up and bandage it
he likes when you walk by his side, but you canât do that if youâre tripping over each and every thing
so heâs going to always have an arm out for you to hold if you ever feel like youâre going to trip and fall
itâs funny because heâs always careful with you and aware of if you trip that you think of him as a guard dog always by your side
and youâre always so happy by his presence that he thinks of you as a cute little puppy always by his side
and you effectively become one anotherâs companions, always sticking by each other and helping one another
which only furthers the bonds of your relationship
.ă»ă.ă»ăâă».ă»â«ă»ăă»ă.

Nice To Meet You
Bucky x Wilson!reader
Warnings: 18+, Smut (duh, so kids go home.), Godzilla Vs Kong spoiler
A/N: Iâm trying to get back to it. Iâm so rusty, so please bear with me. đ©
Also, this story has unprotected sex. Remember that this is just fiction and if he ainât got no rubber then he canât be your lover.
Word Count: 3,554 (My bad.)
********
You pulled into the driveway of the home you shared with your older siblings and nephews. You popped the trunk before getting out in preparation to get the many groceries you'd just bought.Â
You were bent over in the trunk when you heard a man's voice.Â
"Excuse me?" He called out.Â
You stopped what you were doing and turned to him. "Yes?"Â
"Hi, I'm looking for Sam Wilson, does he live here?" He asked.Â
"Yes, he does, but he isn't here right now." You answered.Â
"Oh okay, um, I'm â" he started.Â
"I know who you are," you interrupted him. I'm Y/N Wilson."Â
"I didn't know Sam was married," he said shocked.Â
You turned around and pulled a case of water from the trunk and gave it to him. Then sat another on top of it.Â
"I'm not Sam's wife. I'm his youngest sister." You told him and hooked bags onto his arms. "This way," you led him to the large porch and into the house.Â
You walked him into the kitchen where he set everything down, thanked him and pulled a bottle of water out of the fridge for him.Â
"I didn't know Sam had a sister. It's nice to meet you," he reached out to shake your hand.Â
You grabbed the gloved hand and shook it.Â
"Sam won't be back until tomorrow. He and Sarah went to get supplies for the boat a few towns over and theyâre staying the night."Â
"Sam has a boat?" He asked, confused.Â
"What exactly do you know about my brother?"Â
"Not much, I guess," he shrugged.Â
"Wow, a man risks his life and has to go on the run for two years because of you and you couldn't take the time to ask him about his life or family?" You raised your brow at him.Â
"Okay, I deserved that," he agreed.Â
"Mmm hmm," you turned to put the groceries away.Â
"Uh, I'll come back tomorrow when Sam's here."Â
"How'd you get here? I didn't see a car out there."Â
"I kind of walked from the bus station," he scratched the back of his neck.Â
"And where are you staying?" You followed up.Â
"I'm good at figuring those things out."Â
"Right," you rolled your eyes. "You can stay here tonight. I have to meet my brother and sister at the docks tomorrow and we can just ride up together."Â
"Oh, no, I don't want to impose. I'll be fine." He insisted.Â
"Have you eaten?" You asked.Â
His stomach decided to growl loudly at that moment. It wasn't exactly unusual for Bucky to forget to eat.Â
"I'm gonna fry some fish for lunch. The guest room is the third room on the left upstairs. You can put your things in there. Also, lose the gloves. You don't have to hide who you are here."Â
Bucky smiled at your back and followed your instructions. He looked at all of the family photos on the wall as he made his way to the room.Â
He felt bad for the twinge of jealousy in the pit of his stomach at how happy you all looked. He wished he still had photos of his family to look back on.Â
Bucky put his bag on the big plush bed and changed his shirt. He was happy you said he didn't have to hide who he was there. It was hot as hell with those gloves on.Â
********
When he returned to the kitchen you were already outside lighting up the deep fryer.Â
"Anything I can help with?" He asked when he walked out onto the deck.Â
"Absolutely, you can make the salad," you handed him the ingredients and a knife.Â
The two of you worked in silence until you were finished and sat down to eat.Â
"Thank you for letting me stay here," he finally said.Â
"Of course, you're Sam's friend."Â
"I don't know about friends. More like coworkers," he laughed.Â
"Wow, is that a smile? You should do it more often. It's nice." You suggested.Â
Bucky turned red. He couldn't remember when he was complimented last for a non violent act.Â
"So, why are you here, Mr. Barnes?"Â
"Just needed to talk to Sam about some things and you can call me Bucky."Â
"I hope you aren't here to talk to him about the shield. We tried to talk him out of it at first, but he made a decision and just like the rest of us, you need to respect that."Â
"He gave it away," he said with an attitude.Â
"Actually, he didn't. He put it away, there's a difference. And maybe if you tried to understand his choices instead of having an attitude about it, you'd understand why he did what he did." You matched his fire.Â
"Either way, I'm taking it back, because he deserves it. He's the only one who should have it."Â
"I agree, but I won't let you give him anymore shit about what he felt was right."Â
"I thought Sam was the superhero in this family?" He asked sarcastically.Â
"Yeah, Sam protects the world and I protect Sam. You should be happy you're talking to me and not Sarah though, she would've punched you by now," you got up and took your empty plate inside.Â
Bucky chuckled and watched as you walked away. His intention wasn't to come there and talk about the shield, but he still admired the way you had your brother's back.Â
When you walked back out you had two drinks in your hands. You sat one down in front of him and went to your chair.Â
"What's this?" He asked, looking at the red and orange drink.Â
"A tequila sunrise. Heavy on the tequila," you sipped from your straw.Â
"You know I can't get drunk, right?"Â
"Seriously?"Â
"Yeah, the serum speeds up my metabolism, so I can't get drunk," he shrugged as he took a huge gulp.Â
"I'm sure that sucks."Â
"You have no idea."Â
You sat outside and talked until the sun went down and then you went inside to clean up the kitchen. You washed dishes while Bucky dried them off and put them away.Â
Bucky's phone was sitting on the table when you first heard the familiar dating app notification sound. You ignored it, but by the third time you finally asked if he was gonna check it.Â
"It's probably no one," he said.Â
"No one? You're getting matches like crazy. Let's see if they're any good," you picked up the phone.Â
"What? No, absolutely not." He took the phone from you.Â
"Why not? You could potentially find the love of your life out here," you sat down and patted the seat of the chair next to you.Â
He finally gave in and sat next to you. Bucky opened his dating app and the two of you looked through his potential baes. He was swiping left on most of them so quick that you had to stop him.Â
"You're not even reading their bios. Give it a chance, jeez."Â
He slowed down a bit.Â
"Melissa, likes long walks on the beach and playing in the mud? Next." He swiped.Â
"Ooh, she's cute. Ella, an aspiring model who loves comedy. And look at that, her favorite movie is Robocop," you bit your lip to hold in your laugh.Â
"You're worse than Sam," he said annoyed and put his phone away. âAnd itâs Robocop 3. Thatâs like the worst one.â
"Oh come on, Bucky, give her a chance she has two dogs!" You laughed.Â
"I'm more of a cat guy actually," he said.Â
"You're adorable," you continued laughing, âlet's go watch a movie," you put your hand out for him to grab and led him into the front room.Â
You turned on the TV and scrolled through for something to watch and finally settled on Godzilla Vs Kong figuring the action would be fun.Â
"Five bucks says Godzilla kicks the crap out of Kong," you said.Â
"What?? King Kong was first. It's only right that he reigns supreme in this situation," he countered.Â
"Put up or shut up, Buck," you shrugged.Â
He pulled the money from his wallet and sat it on the table.Â
Halfway through the movie you were both talking smack to one another. Bucky hadn't even realized how comfortable he'd become. Your legs were across his lap and he was holding them in place. Casually rubbing circles on your thigh every few minutes.Â
When Godzilla pinned Kong down and the fight seemed to be over, you jumped up in celebration.Â
"Yessss!!!! The dinosaur for the winnnn!!" You danced in front of him.Â
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, show off," he chuckled.Â
You finished the remainder of the movie teasing one another along the way, when it ended you went up to get ready for bed.Â
*******
Once you were done with your shower you put on your pajamas and went to the guest room to check on Bucky.Â
He was standing in the window shirtless with his jeans unbuttoned looking out into the dark yard. You stared at his back. Your eyes tracing his entire body.Â
You shifted your stance as you felt your body starting to react to the sight of him. Your pussy was getting wet causing you to forget why you'd even gone to the room in the first place.Â
"Everything okay?" You heard his voice break your thoughts.Â
"Hmm? Um, yeah, I was just coming to make sure you didn't need anything before I went to bed?"Â
"No, I'm okay, thank you." He smirked. "You know you can just ask whatever you want to know."Â
You walked further into the room never taking your eyes off where his flesh ended and his metal arm began. You reached up to touch him and he flexed his arm a little causing the plates to shift.Â
You jumped back slightly before running your finger down the cool metal and then touching the scar he had.Â
"Does it hurt?" You asked quietly.Â
"Not anymore, but I still remember the pain," he answered.Â
"You're a nice guy, Bucky and I really wish that this never had to happen to you. Although, I can't lie and say that I don't think it's really cool." You ran your fingers over the metal again.Â
He took your chin in between his fingers and redirected your gaze to his eyes. He's wanted to kiss you since lunch and has been doing his best to hold back out of respect for his friend.Â
"Can I kiss you?" He said barely above a whisper.Â
You didn't even answer, just pressed your lips to his. The kiss was needy. You'd both been craving each other all day. He let his hands fall to the small of your back and you wrapped your arms around his neck.Â
Bucky picked you up and was leading you over to the bed when you could hear your phone ringing in the other room. You broke the kiss and he lowered you to the floor.Â
"Shit!" You ran from the room.Â
You picked up the phone and saw that it was Sam trying to FaceTime you. You hurried to answer.Â
"Hey bro!" You said happily.Â
"What you doing? What took you so long?" He immediately asked.Â
"I was downstairs when I heard the phone, rudeness," you lied.Â
Sam just looked at you. He could always tell when you were lying. Even one as small as that. You decided to switch the subject before he asked more questions.Â
"Hey so guess who stopped by?" You said as you walked down the hall to the other room.Â
You peeked into the guest room before going in. Bucky had put his shirt back on and stood when he saw you coming in. You stood next to him and put him in the camera.Â
" Hi, Sam," Bucky said dryly.Â
It may have seemed like a normal greeting, but he was really annoyed that he'd interrupted a moment he'd built up the courage to have all day.Â
"Hey, what are you doing in my house Wall-E?" He chuckled.Â
"I came to talk to you, but you're obviously not here."Â
"Yeah, I put him up in the guest room for the night and we'll meet you down at the docks tomorrow."Â
"Alright... You'd better not be getting sweet on my baby sister either," he cut his eyes at Bucky.Â
"First of all, my sex life is none of your business. Secondly, there is no sweetness." You rolled your eyes. "Where's Sarah?"Â
"You know she needs an hour long shower before bed just like you," he responded in a snarky tone.Â
"Well, I'm going to bed, so tell her I said goodnight. I love y'all and we'll see you tomorrow." You said before hanging up.Â
You put your phone on the charger for the night and when you turned around Bucky was standing at the door.Â
"Goodness!" You yelled as you pressed a hand to your chest.Â
He didn't say anything, just rushed over and started kissing you again. This time, even hungrier.Â
Your tongues met and your body tingled. His hand gripped beneath your thigh as the other held him up.Â
You broke the kiss to pull his shirt over his head. The few seconds felt like an eternity for Bucky. He never wanted to take his lips off you, but he did once more.Â
"Are you sure about this?" He asked as he trailed kisses down your body.Â
He was finally on his knees in front of you. Face in between your thighs.Â
"I need to hear you say it, doll." He kissed one thigh.Â
"Yes," you breathed.Â
"Yes, what?" He kissed the other thigh further down.Â
"I'm sure, Bucky. I want you. Please," you buried your fingers in his hair.Â
He licked your clit slowly at first. Taking you all in and tasting your nectar. It had been so damn long since he had such a pretty pussy in his face.Â
You could hear him moaning as he sucked and slurped on your clit.Â
"Ooh, fuck baby, yes," you moaned.Â
Bucky's dick was screaming for release from his jeans. It was pressing hard against the fabric and ready for your touch, but he wasn't done with you just yet.Â
He spread your thighs wider and stuck his tongue in your tight pussy. He tongue fucked you until you felt your first orgasm approaching. You reached down and started rubbing your clit.Â
"Yeah, play with that pussy. Good girl," he praised.Â
You rubbed faster. Bucky stuck his tongue back inside and let you fuck his face some more. Your legs shook and the warm juices flowed onto his tongue. He moved your hand and licked from your hole to your clit.Â
"Told you I was more of a cat guy," he smiled.Â
"Shut up and share," you grabbed his face and stuck your tongue out to taste yourself on his lips.Â
You pushed his pants down and tried to flip him, so you could take him into your mouth, but he wouldn't budge.Â
"No, need you now," he said as he slowly pushed inside of you. "Fuck," he said in your ear.Â
He paused. He knew that if he moved he'd embarrass himself for sure, but you were so wet and tight. Fitting him perfectly.Â
Bucky buried his face in the crook of your neck as he slowly started to move inside of you. Allowing you to adjust to him without hurting you too much.Â
"You feel so good."Â
Hearing you say that made him pick up the pace. He rolled his hips faster and pushed your knees to your chest. He wanted you to feel every last inch of him inside of you.Â
He ripped your night shirt in half and exposed your breasts, watching them jiggle as he slammed into your pussy.Â
Now he wanted to watch something else jiggle, so he pulled out and turned you on to your stomach. He pulled you up by the waist onto your knees and slid his hard cock back inside of you.Â
"Fuck me," he demanded as he slapped each of your ass cheeks.Â
You obliged and threw your ass back on his slick coated dick and he watched your ass bounce in the process. He knew he wasn't going to last long like this.Â
"That's it, doll, fuck me. I wanna cum in that pretty little mouth of yours." He said.Â
His words caused you to cum. Your pussy clenched around him so tight and you knew when you heard the soft, "Oh fuck," leave his lips that he was about to explode.Â
Bucky pulled out of you and stood on the bed. He pumped his warm thickness into your waiting mouth while moaning loudly.Â
When he was done, you let some of the cum drip from your tongue. He slapped his dick in it and you swallowed the rest.Â
"Good girl," he dropped to his knees and kissed you roughly.Â
He fell back onto the bed taking you with him. You laid on his arm and traced his jawline with your finger.Â
"You're beautiful," he said to you.Â
"Thank you," you smiled.Â
"Should I start you another bath?"Â
"No, I can take one in the morning."Â
"Good, because I don't want you to leave anyway." He kissed your forehead.Â
"Get some rest," you told him.Â
He looked tired and you could tell that he sleeps horribly at night.Â
Bucky closed his eyes. You waited for a few minutes before going to the bathroom to clean up. When you came back and laid down, he immediately wrapped his arms around you.Â
You snuggled into his chest and drifted off to sleep.
********
When you awoke the next morning Bucky's arms were still wrapped around you.Â
"Good morning," he said and planted a kiss on your shoulder.Â
"How'd you know I was awake?" Your voice still laced with sleep.Â
"Your breathing changed," he kissed you again.Â
You could feel his hard cock pressing against your ass. His metal hand traced a cool trail between your breasts and down to your clit.Â
You spread your legs to give him better access and then your phone started ringing. You rolled eyes when you saw Sam's name. This is the second time he's ruined your moment.Â
"Hello?" You answered with an attitude.Â
"Well good morning to you too, sunshine," he said.Â
"Samuel, it's literally," you looked at your phone for the time, "shit, it's 10am??"Â
"Yeah, exactly you slept in. Get your butt up."Â
Bucky didn't care that Sam was on the phone. He slid his fingers inside your pussy and pumped them slowly. Your body quivered beneath his touch.Â
"I'm getting â I'll call you when we're on the way." You quickly hung up.Â
Bucky chuckled. He moved his fingers faster inside of you and sucked a nipple into his mouth.Â
Your orgasm was so close and then he pulled his fingers out. Your eyes popped open and the satisfied smirk on his face let you know that he'd done it on purpose.Â
"Next time, don't answer the phone, doll." He kissed your lips and walked towards the door. "Oh and don't even think about touching yourself." He said before he disappeared.Â
He was out of his mind. You quickly grabbed your toy from your drawer and went into the bathroom. You turned on the shower and sucked the vibrator into your mouth to wet it.Â
You put your foot up on the tub and slowly fucked yourself with the toy. Your eyes were pinched shut and you were so into what you were feeling that you hadn't heard the door open.Â
Bucky watched as you pleasured yourself. He was turned on by the sight, but pissed, because he told you not to. He walked over and snatched the toy from you. Covering your mouth, so you couldn't scream.Â
"Now, I remember telling you not to do this, doll." He moved his hand and nipped at your collar bone.Â
"No, you told me not to touch myself. I used the toy," you said.Â
"Real cute," he growled.Â
He put the toy on the counter and walked you into the shower. He got down on his knees and started eating your pussy again.Â
He should've been punishing you, but instead he was treating himself. Bucky knew in that moment that you were now his addiction.Â
You gripped his hair while he held on to the leg that was thrown over his shoulder.Â
"I want to feel you. Please," you begged.Â
He wanted to deny you, but he simply couldn't. Your wish was his command.Â
He stood and lifted you up, slowly sliding you down on his hard dick. He was sure to keep you against the wall, so your hair wouldn't get wet.Â
Bucky fucked into you slowly. Enjoying the feeling of your slick walls. He wanted to stay inside of you forever.Â
"I'm gonna cum, baby!" You mewled.Â
You heard him grunt in response. He was close himself and when you tighten your grip around him he exploded inside of you.Â
You bit his neck as your own orgasm washed over you. He finally let you down and the two of you finished the shower together.
Bucky had no clue how he'd break this news to Sam, but he knew he had to, because there was no way he wanted to ever go without your touch again.Â

A/N: âCourageâ officially broke my record for most notes on a debut chapter, so thank you all so much for all your likes and reblogs! This chapter is more serious in parts, but we get to see an evolving Effie and an evoling Effie/Matthew dynamic. Enjoy!
                              *   *   *   *   *
Effie. Â Her name was Effie. Â And everybody knew it. Â
Rachel was no more. Â Rachel was a thing of the past and she was going to stay there. Â Rachel was a person who had been hurt and abused. Â Rachel was named by an abusive, violent, cruel, despicable tyrant who called himself Abraham and proclaimed he was a prophet. Â Rachel was a girl with no voice, no agency, nothing to call her own. Â Rachel was a girl who belonged to someone.
Effie was new. Â Effie was her chosen name and a thing of the future. Â Effie was a person learning to come to terms with her trauma after years of hurt and abuse. Â Effie was name by herself, for herself, to reclaim her identity after years of it being denied to her. Â Effie was a girl with a voice, agency, and even though she could only count a few things as her own, they were just that â her own. Â Effie was a girl who belonged to nobody but herself. Â
That was how she liked it. Â
Naming herself instilled a new sense of confidence within her.  It was small, and it was gradual, but the people around her could notice it.  Matthew knew he could.  She was more assertiveâŠin her own way.  She didnât ask âCan I ask you a question?â before asking questions anymore.  She just asked.  She was proud of her learning and was getting used to showing it off.  Her independence increased.  Sheâd walk to Starbucks to get her strawberry frappucinos instead of having Jenna drive her.  She engaged in more conversation.  She made jokes.  She laughed at jokes.  She went grocery shopping with Jenna and said âI want to buy corn dogsâ so she and Jenna bought corn dogs and they had them for dinner one night.  She went to Levi and said âI want to get a phone so I can text Annicaâ and so he gave her an old iPhone he had in the house.  She asked Annica more about makeup, even though she was still a bit apprehensive about using it.  She asked GeneviĂšve about words sheâd read and wanted to know more about.  Feminism (that was the best word she learned, Effie thought.  She was a feminist).  Socialism.  Communism.  Democracy.  GeneviĂšve explained them all to her.  She asked GeneviĂšve about pants.
She wore pants.
It was weird at first, wearing pants. Â Sheâd only ever worn skirts and dresses, even in the privacy of her own home when she was in the cult. Â The prophet demanded it; women were not allowed to wear pants. Â So when Jenna encouraged her to try on an old pair of jeans that she had, Effie did. Â They were big â Effie was still, well, small, and gaining weight every day â but Effie liked them. Â âCan I buy a pair of jeans?â she asked Jenna. Â Jenna promised to take her shopping at the mall on the weekend. Â It would be Effieâs first time in a mall.Â
Effie wanted to be fearless, but there was still a lot of fear in her. Â Everything was so new, and so big, and sometimes so complicated, and she wished things were easier but she knew they couldnât be. Â But instead of before, when she would let the fear overcome her, she embraced it instead. Â She worked through it. Â She did things in spite of the fear. Â She did things because she didnât want the fear in her anymore.
Thatâs why she found herself walking now. Â Walking to Starbucks. Â Well, not to Starbucks exactly, but to the complex that held the Starbucks and a bunch of other stores. Â Effie had noticed one particular one a few storefronts down and had taken mental note of it for when she was ready for it. Â And now, walking with purpose through Aspen Woods, clutching something very important in the pocket of her jacket, she was ready. Â
âChop it all off.â
âWhat?!â the hairdresser shrieked as she looked at Effie through the mirror, after putting a robe around her and running her hands through her long blonde hair. Â âBut your hair! Â Itâs healthy and itâs long and luscious andâand it would be a disservice if I chopped it all off!â
âPlease. Â I need you to cut it. Â I need you toââ
âThis is the greatest head of hair Iâve ever seenââ
âYou donât understand,â Effie interrupted. Â âI escaped a cult. Â I escaped The Peopleâs Dominion of Christ. Â This hair was never mine; it was always someone elseâs. Â I need you to cut it off so that itâs mine, so that something on my body is mine for once in my life.â
The hairdresser looked at Effie through the mirror, blinking a few times as she realized what Effie was saying. Â Without saying another word, she reached over to her station and grabbed her scissors. Â âHow much do you want off?â she asked.
Effie unfolded the picture from one of Jennaâs old magazines that she had crumpled in her hand, showing the stylist. Â âLike this,â she said. Â âI donât even want it touching my shoulders.â
The hairdresser nodded, placing the picture face up at her station so Effie could look at it as the hairdresser did her magic. Â She took one last look at it before tying an elastic loosely around the hair. Â âReady?â she asked, gripping it.
Effie nodded firmly. Â âReady.â
***
Effie had six numbers stored on her phone. Â Levi. Â Jenna. Â Annica. Â GeneviĂšve. Â Jacob Markstrom. Â Matthew Tkachuk. Â
âHello?â he asked as he picked up his phone. Â
His voice was a welcome sound to Effie, who was nervous but excited as she looked at herself in the mirror. Â âMatthew? Â IâmâIâm sorry to bother you, but can you come pick me up?â
âIâyeahâis everything okay?â his voice sounded immediately worried.  âWhere are you?â
Effie didnât even know. Â She covered the receiver with her hand and turned towards the hairstylist. Â âWhatâs the address?â
â225 Mercer Street, Unit 13.â
â225 Mercer Street, Unit 13,â she repeated into the phone.
Matthew was officially confused. Â âThe Starbucks complex?â
âYesâŠbut a few stores down,â Effie informed him.
âIâll be there in like, five minutes.â
***
Matthew was nervous. Â Effie hadnât sounded nervous on the phone, but he was still nervous. Â It was out of the ordinary for her to call him to pick her up from anywhere, let alone from a place where she knew how to get home from now that she took the initiative to walk most places she wanted to go. Â It wasnât like he was going to deny her â he was speeding through the streets, if he was being completely honest â but the thoughts in his mind were running a mile a minute, and he had no clue what to expect. Â
When he pulled into the complex, he searched for unit 13 and parked right in front of it. Â It was only when he turned off his car that he actually saw the name of the store heâd parked in front of. Â Abigailâs Hair Salon.
Matthew walked in.
He stopped dead in his tracks.  In front of him, Effie stood sheepishly, her long, flowing blonde hair chopped off almost completely, and in its place, a chic blonde bob, perfectly styled and perfectly her.  She had a t-shirt, baggy skinny jeans, and old Doc Martens on â no doubt all borrowed from Jenna â and she looked like a vision.  He couldnât help the smile that overtook his face.  âEffie,â he said her name bashfully, breathlessly, because it was so much to take in and she just looked soâŠcute. Â
âDoes it look nice?â she asked, patting it down at the sides. Â
âIt looks great, Effie,â Matthew said, and she could tell he meant it sincerely. Â He bit his bottom lip before continuing his line of questioning, even though all he wanted to do was look at her. Â âYou wanted it this short?â
Effie nodded her head. Â
âIt suits you,â he nodded. Â âDid you pay?â Â Effie nodded her head. Â âDid you tip?â
Effie looked scared for a moment. Â âTip?â
Matthew automatically took out his wallet and pulled a $50 from inside, giving it to the hairstylist. Â He turned to Effie without another word. Â âWanna grab some lunch?â
âYouâyouâre not busy? Â I thought you would just drive me home.â
âLetâs grab lunch,â he said casually, like it was no big deal. Â âGrab your jacket. Â What do you feel like eating?â
***
Matthew watched Effie for most of the meal, if he was being honest.  He couldnât keep his eyes off of her regardless of how hard he tried.  But he kept any emotions or any feelings at bay, kicking himself for anything he was feeling that wasâŠquestionable.  He didnât want to be that guy.  He didnât want to make things more complicated for her when she was already learning so much, when the world was already a complicated place for her and she was trying to find her place in it. Â
âWhat team does your brother play for?â Effie asked, picking at her plate left with all her fries. Â She ate her bacon cheeseburger first and devoured it in less than ten minutes. Â For Matthew, it was impressive. Â He knew she was trying to gain weight. Â He shuddered to think what she looked like a year ago. Â
âThe Ottawa Senators,â he replied.
âIn the capital city,â she said, and Matthew nodded his head. Â âYou must be very thankful that heâs in Canada with you. Â What about your sister?â
âShe plays field hockey at the University of Virginia.â
Matthew watched as Effie furrowed her brows. Â âShe can play sports and go to university? Â Thatâs a thing?â she asked.
âYeah,â Matthew smiled, chuckling slightly. Â âSheâs a great field hockey player. Â She committed to the school when she was a junior â when she was sixteen â and now sheâs finally on campus. Â Sheâs going to school too, obviously. Â Thatâs the most important thing. Â But sheâs also playing Division 1 field hockey.â
Effie nodded her head, considering all the things Matthew had just said.  Women could go to university â she knew that now thanks to Jenna and GeneviĂšve.  ButâŠwomen could play sports and go to university?  Women could play sports for their university?  That was new information.  Effie thought about girls playing hockey and whether or not they could do the same thing.  She thought to Levi watching Toronto Raptors games at home and wondering if women could do the same thing with basketball.  She had not been allowed to play sports.  Anything more than running, women were not allowed to do.  Taryn had been sixteen and had committed to play field hockey for a university.  When Effie was sixteen, she was definitely not doing that.  âYour sister is very lucky,â she said softly.  âTo be able to do that.  Sheâs very lucky.â
Matthew knew there was weight behind those words. Â They werenât to be taken lightly. Â He could only imagine what Effie was up to when she was sixteen years old as opposed to Taryn. Â âShe knows,â Matthew said. Â âTarynâs a really smart girl. Â She knows sheâs really lucky.â
âItâs kind of nice how in the normal world, women can go to university, and get an education, and play sports, and do whatever they want, and wait to have their children,â Effie said.
Matthew shrugged. Â âIf they even want kids at all. Â I know some of my friends back home donât want them. Â Nobody says women have to have them,â he said it like a throwaway comment, looking down at his plate to grab a fry and dip it in some ketchup.
Silence.  Pure silence from Effie.  He stuck his fry in his mouth and noticed how quiet it got and he looked up with half the fry in his mouth and half the fry still between his fingers, like a dumbass, only to see Effie staring at him with a blank look on her face.  When he looked closer, he saw her eyes were glossy.  He gulped.  âWhâŠWhat do you mean that women donât have to have children?â she asked.
Matthew chose his words carefully.  He should have known.  He should have fucking known, but he just had to go open his big mouth.  Now, he realized the words he was about to say would change Effieâs perception of things dramatically.  The last thing he intended was for the conversation to swerve in a direction like this, but they were here now, and he had to live with it.  Own up to his actions.  Be the person he promised himself he would be around her.  âSo, likeâŠwomen in modern society have the choice.  They can choose not to have children.  Some women donât want to become mothers.  Itâs a personal choice.  And nowadays, women donât feel as pressured to have families.  Like, maybe they want to pursue a career instead, but itâs not even that.  You can justâŠnot want children.â
Effie had heard the word of God her entire life. Â It was the first thing she remembered; it was her earliest memory. Â Some days â on bad days â it was her only memory, the thing that haunted her most at night, and sheâd toss and turn in her bed to try and get the rolls and rolls of scripture out of her head. Â Be fruitful and multiply. Â Be fruitful and multiply. Â Be fruitful and multiply. Â But this â what Matthew was telling her â this was not the word of God. Â This was something else. Â This went against everything she knew. Â This went against everything she was brought up to believe. Â âOh, okay,â she whispered. Â
Matthew could tell he had just said something to Effie that rocked her foundation. Â And then he thought to himself âOf course this would be happening. Â Everything is new for her.â Â The modern world was completely alien to her. Â She didnât know anything. Â No womenâs liberation. Â No womenâs rights. Â No individuality. Â Voting. Â Elections. Â Doctors. Â Hospitals. Â Jeans. Â T-shirts. Â Wearing her hair however she wanted. Â Makeup. Â Cell phones. Â Instagram. Â Twitter. Â Snapchat. Â Hockey â literally the most unimportant thing at this point. Â She was learning, and making great progress, but things like this â these big ideas â still shook her to her core. Â They went against everything she knew and everything she was brought up to believe. Â It wasnât easy for any person to have their foundation cracked; Matthew knew it would be even harder for her.
âCan you excuse me for a second?â Effie said suddenly, not bothering to hear an answer from Matthew before she pushed her chair back and stood up from the table, escaping back into the restaurant. Â
Matthew felt like there was cement in his feet as he replayed the moment over and over in his mind, the sight of Effieâs glossy eyes realizing children were optional in the real world burning itself into his mind forever. Â God, to find out this way â over bacon cheeseburgers at some restaurant and not in a safe space where she felt comfortable. Â To have it be him, a man, that told her this instead of someone like Jenna, or GeneviĂšve, who had been teaching her everything. Â He was an idiot. Â He was such an idiot.
A jolt of electricity struck through his body and finally jolted him out of his seat, his legs making him run towards the back of the restaurant near the washrooms where he knew Effie went. Â âEffie? Â Effie?â he called out as he opened the door to the womenâs washroom.
When he stepped inside, he saw Effie huddled in a heap on the floor, her knees to her chest as tears flowed down her face. Â Her skin was red and blotchy and he could see her chest heaving up and down. Â âEffieââ he bent down to be at eye level with her.
âI need you to take me home.â
âEffieââ he reached out to touch her.
The second â the millisecond, the nanosecond â that Effie felt his touch for the first time, her entire body flinched so violently away from him that it scared him. Â Matthew recoiled his hand quickly as his breath caught in his throat. Â âIâm sorryâIâmsosorryâIâm so sorryââ he stuttered out. Â
She was silent as she looked at him for a moment through her tears. Â There was a look of pure fear in her eyes that Matthew hadnât seen before, not even the first time he met her at Noahâs birthday at the steakhouse. Â âWhat if women canât have children?â she asked, her voice so small and frail that it broke Matthewâs heart.
He struggled to find the words because it was such a simple concept for him but such a complicated one for her.  âThatâsâŠthatâs not their fault,â he said calmly, but the tone of obviousness was still apparent. Â
âWhat do you mean itâs not their fault?â Effieâs tone was incredulous, like a seven-year-old child learning prematurely that there was no Santa Claus.
âItâs not their fault, Effie,â he reiterated, not knowing how else to explain it.  âIâŠitâs not their fault.  It can be a medical thing.  I mean most of the time it is, if they canât have children.  And itâs not their fault,â he just kept repeating it.
âWhat ifâŠwhat if women donât want to have children, but can?  AreâŠare they punished?â she asked.
âWhy would they be punished? Â No,â he shook his head.
âMatthewâŠâ she was apprehensive.  âAre you telling the truth?â
âI wouldnât lie to you Effie,â he said softly, wanting so desperately to just reach out and touch her, hug her, but knowing that if he did, heâd just inflict more fear in her. Â âI know itâs not what youâre used to, but itâs the truth. Â Some women canât have children, and some of them donât want children, and both of those things are perfectly okay.â Â He watched as the tears streamed down her face as she stared him in the eye. Â Shaking. Â
Then it finally hit him like a ton of bricks. Â
âEffieâŠâ he said uneasily.
âThere were seven.â
The words hung in the air for an unknown amount of time. Â It could have been years for all Matthew knew. Â But as he stared into Effieâs eyes, he felt an incredible pain in his heart; a pain reserved only for her, that only she could give him. Â He thought of how she kept all her own pain inside her constantly, how the trauma was a part of her just as her hair, her fingers, her toes were. Â She carried this with her every single day. Â Every. Â Single. Â Day.
âItâs not your fault, Effie,â he whispered. Â He knew better than to try to reach out and touch her again. Â So he settled on words, because words were his best option. Â âItâs not your fault.â

âDid you really think youâd be able to come to a therapistâs office and think youâd be able to discuss a patient?â
Matthew stared at Dr. Jessica Barlow sitting across from him â her seated on her plush chair, him sitting on the couch he was sure all her patients sat on â and he didnât really appreciate her tone of voice. Â So maybe it wasnât the most flawless plan. Â Maybe there were holes. Â But he was there, damnit, and there for a good reason. Â The best reason. Â She was the best psychotherapist that specialized in cults in Alberta â probably in western Canada, judging by how many degrees and certificates and awards she had displayed in her office. Â She was the best and most qualified person to help Effie, surely, which is why Effie met with her three times a week. Â That meant she was also the best and most qualified person to help Matthew.
âMaybe,â he mumbled out. Â Matthew would have been intimidated, but for some reason, he wasnât. Â Even considering they were alone in her office, even considering heâd never met or been to a therapist before, he wasnât nervous or intimidated. Â He was determined. Â âI need you tell me what I need to do. Â Tell me. Â Tell me and Iâll do it.â
âFor who?â
âEffie Schaffer.â
Dr. Barlow looked incredulous, like a mix between seeing a ghost and not believing the words that were coming out of Matthewâs mouth. Â But then he watched as her face softened slightly, and turn inquisitive instead of suspicious. Â âYouâre Matthew,â she said, framing it as a statement more than a question.
He knew what that meant. Â âEffieâs told you about me?â he asked.
It was a lost cause â he knew that the second the question left his lips, because he knew Dr. Barlow wouldnât tell him a word. Â Doctor-patient confidentiality and all that. Â If dentists couldnât even talk about their patients, there was no way in hell a psychotherapist who worked with cult survivors would say a peep about anything. Â âEffieâs opened up to you quite a bit, hasnât she?â
Matthew leaned in. Â âYes. Â Thatâs why I need you to help me. Â I want â I need to know how to help her.â
âMatthew,â Dr. Barlow took off her glasses. Â âFirst you need to tell me why you want to do this,â she said matter-of-factly. Â
Matthew didnât want this to become a session. Â It wasnât about him; it was about Effie. Â âIâve just become her friend, and Iâve been spending a lot of time with her lately, andâand I just want to know what I can do to help her get even better.â
âBecause youâre her friend.â
âYes.â
âBecause you care about her.â
âWell, yes. Â I wouldnât be here if I didnât care about her in any capacity.â
Dr. Barlow paused. Â âItâs not that simple, Mr. Tkachukââ
âWhy not?â he asked, interrupting her. Â âSheâs leaps and bounds better than when she escaped! Â At least according to her brother!â he defended himself. Â âListen, I know it hasnât been a long time that Iâve known her but I â damnit, I can help her. Â I can help her but I donât want to hurt her â I never want that to happen ever again, even if itâs by accident, and you need to tell me. Â You need to tell me how I can do that so I can actually do it.â
Dr. Barlow stayed silent. Â âYouâve already been incredibly patient with her,â she chose her words wisely. Â Matthew could read between the lines. Â So maybe Effie spoke about him more than he initially thought. Â âWe should just leave it at that. Â I appreciate the effort, butâ"
âShe told me how there were seven,â he said, his voice steady and calm but firm and resolute.  When he looked up at Dr. Barlow, she was staring back at him with a stoic yet shocked look on her face.  âShe told me there were seven, and when I tried toâto console her, to touch her, the way her body jumped away from mineâŠIâŠâ he trailed off.  He rubbed his fingers against his lips nervously.
âSo then you know and realize that Effie was a member of a religious cult where she was routinely raped by its leader so he could impregnate her with the son of God for almost five years.â
It was the first time the word had been said out loud. Â He didnât want to repeat it. Â He wanted it burned from his memory, from Effieâs memory, from the dictionary, everywhere. Â He knew it happened but he didnât want to admit it to himself. Â Saying the word out loud made it different; it made it real. Â It made him acutely aware of the trauma Effie had been through, and how she didnât deserve any of it, yet she was burdened with it for the rest of her life. Â He was biting down on his bottom lip so hard he thought heâd draw blood. Â âYes,â he said curtly. Â âI realize.â
âI know how close â relatively â you and Effie have gotten ever since you were introduced. Â Her progress has increased dramatically since it,â Dr. Barlow began, again choosing her words wisely. Â âI know everything you two talk about on your Starbucks dates. Â I know you introduced her to candy and watched Little Women with her. Â Matthew â Iâm not telling you this because Iâm making some point that Effie tattles and tells me everything about her relationship with you. Â Iâm telling you this because youâve already been doing what you need to do. Â You didnât need to come here and ask me for specifics.â
âBut I donât want to hurt her,â Matthew said, his voice barely above a whisper.  âWhat happened that day when she told me and whenâwhen I tried to touch herâŠâ
âIt might take a while for her body not to seize up anytime a man touches her,â Dr. Barlow said. Â âThat doesnât mean sheâs not making progress. Â Itâs the mental progress we want to see. Â And it doesnât mean youâre doing anything wrong, either. Â Just give her time, Matthew. Â Exercise patience with her.â

The next time Matthew saw Effie, she didnât know he was coming. Â But he called Levi and made sure it was okay, and so when he descended down the stairs into the basement and saw Effieâs bedroom door opened, he took a deep breath. Â He collected himself. Â And he moved forward. Â He knew he didnât have to do this â any outsider would have said that â but he knew he needed to do it. Â He needed to make it right.
âEffie?â he knocked lightly on her door before stepping into the door frame, finding her sitting at her desk reading something. Â
She turned her head to look at him and a smile appeared on her face. Â It felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders to see her smiling. Â He didnât exactly think sheâd be cradled in a corner crying, but he did think that maybe she wouldnât be happy to see him. Â It was a relief. Â âHi Matthew.â
âCan I come in?â he asked.
âOf course,â she nodded, pushing her desk chair out as he walked in slowly. Â âHowâve you been?â
âIâve been okayâŠâ he said, biting down on his bottom lip nervously.  âHowâI mean, have you been okay since that day?â
He saw something flash behind her eyes â a memory of the tears, the feeling, the questions. Â He knew he relived it every other minute since it happened because he felt so guilty about it. Â He wondered if Effie relived it every moment too and whether or not it brought her constant pain. Â Matthew would never forgive himself if it did. Â âIâve been good. Â Learned a lot, as you can imagine,â she joked slightly. Â âI read up on what we talked about. Â GeneviĂšve helped me.â
âSo you know itâs a thing now.â
Effie nodded. Â âIt made me realize I never want children.â
Matthew should have been shocked by that statement, but he wasnât.  Knowing what Effie had been through, he understood why she wouldnât want them.  It was her choice to make and hers only, and nobody could or should influence her otherwise.  âThatâs good.  Good that you canâŠyou know, say that out loud.  That youâre not forced into something you donât want anymore.â
Effie nodded her head. Â âI knew it all along. Â I mean, children are a blessing, but theyâre not for me. Â And knowing the way I was brought up, with abuse and no loving parenting from my parents or from anyone around me, I donât want to pass that legacy on. Â Iâm too scared to fall back into that. Â Iâd have no idea how to raise a child. Â I know that now,â she said, watching as Matthew walked further into the room and lean back slightly on her desk. Â She looked up at him. Â There was a moment of silence between them as they were just there, staring at each other in her bedroom. Â Effie tried not to get lost in his blue eyes. Â She wondered if he could see past her calm exterior. Â âIâm sorry that I flinched away from you that day,â she said quietly. Â
âI should be the one apologizingââ
âNo,â she said as sternly as she could, getting him to stop.  âYou donât have to apologize for anything.  You didnât hurt me that day, so donât think you did.  I justâŠI get apprehensive about touch, because we werenât allowed to, and because once I finally was, it wasnâtâŠnice,â she revealed, knowing heâd get the point.  âBut I know that your touch is nice.â
âHow do you know?â Matthew asked.
âBecause youâre a nice person.â
She took it upon herself to look at his hands. Â They were on either side of his body, gripping her desk just in case it collapsed under his weight or something â who knows. Â But they were there, exposed, for her to look at. Â They were big â bigger than Abrahamâs â and younger, of course, rougher around the edges due to hockey but still better than the only other pair of hands sheâd had experience with.
He caught her looking. Â Slowly, almost painstakingly slowly, he brought his right hand up and opened it, palm facing her, fingers pointing up towards the sky. Â He watched as Effie brought her hand up too, even slower than he had, opening it up and facing her palm towards his. Â There were a few moments where she was stagnant, thinking about how this was the first time she was going to touch a man other than her predator fake husband or her brother. Â Then she moved her hand closer. Â Closer. Â Closer.
When she finally touched Matthew â when she finally touched him â a million electric bolts ran through her body. Â The feeling of his skin on hers, his delicate yet rough touch as she pressed her small hand into his large one so she could feel his entire hand on her hand â it was unlike anything sheâd ever felt before. Â The simplest action gave her the most surreal feeling. Â There were no words for it. Â No words, in fact, because all she could do was smile. Â A big, wide smile, spanning from ear to ear as she kept her hand against his.
Matthew smiled too. Â

âThis was a very quick progression from âCan women get tattoos?â to âIâm getting a tattooâ, you know,â GeneviĂšve laughed as she and Annica watched Effie take a seat in the tattooistâs chair. Â The tattoo artist, a young woman with sleeves of her own, was preparing everything appropriately as the women chatted. Â âThe turnover rate was, what, a week?â
âLess,â Annica giggled. Â
âWhen I went to the orthodontistâs when I was ten, I saw a man there with his entire arm covered in tattoos. Â I was so scared I started crying. Â I asked the prophet about it when I got back to Sheerness and he said they were marks of sinners and that the devil influenced them,â Effie laughed along with them. Â âBut I see them on people at Starbucks all the time. Â I think they look really nice.â
âAnd youâre absolutely sure you want what youâve requested? Â Youâre not gonna regret it, right?â Annica wanted to make sure Effie was making the right decision.
Effie nodded her head emphatically. Â âDefinitely. Â Definitely.â
âWhat is it? Â Can we see it?â GeneviĂšve asked. Â
Effie shook her head. Â âI want it to be a surprise,â she said, biting her lip. Â âYou guys donât think Iâm crazy, do you? Â Doing this to my body?â
âAbsolutely not,â GeneviĂšve replied automatically, her tone telling Effie that the notion was absurd. Â It was nice for Effie to know that the two women in front of her would never judge her. Â It was nice to know a woman could be supported in her decisions, and not be told it would make God angry and that she was sinning and going against the prophet. Â âItâs your body, remember? Â Your body, your choice.â
Effie nodded after a moment. Â âMy body, my choice.â
***
âItâs still a bit red and itchy. Â Annica said I need to put an elastic around my wrist and snap it whenever I want to itch it,â Effie said, her voice filled with excitement but a certain anxiousness that was characteristic to her. Â
âItâs alright. Â Just show me,â Matthew smiled as he watched her roll up the sleeve of her cardigan. Â When she finally did, and stretched out her arm, Matthewâs mouth gaped open. Â âItâs huge!â he exclaimed, definitely not expecting it to be that big. Â He thought Effie would get a dainty tattoo; something small. Â He didnât exactly think sheâd have a âgo big or go homeâ attitude about a tattoo â something on her body forever. Â But it was big. Â It took up at least two-thirds of her forearm. Â The linework and shading were impeccable; the detail exquisite. Â It was made up of flowers â he didnât know what kind â but they were big and small, all sizes really, and there were a few leaves, a few stems, and it just looked so beautiful. Â He brought his hand up to touch, but stopped himself. Â âCan I?â he asked.
Effie nodded. Â âYou can touch me,â she said, preparing herself.
Matthew brought his hand up slowly. Â He touched her arm, grazing his fingertips over the linework delicately. Â It was still bumpy, a testament to how new it was. Â âIt looks amazing, Effie,â he whispered, his fingers still grazing delicately. Â
âYou havenât even seen the best part yet.â
âThe best part?â he arched his eyebrow. Â What could be better than this?
She turned her arm over, palm facing up, where another large flower was tattooed on her skin. Â Matthew noticed some handwriting along the flower, and he leaned his head down to read it. Â âI am mine before I am anyone elseâsâ.
Matthew smiled from ear to ear. Â âEffie,â he whispered bashfully, just like he had when he saw that she cut her hair short for the first time. Â He was so bashful because he was so happy to be seeing her making her own decisions for once in her life. Â âDo you love it?â he asked.
She nodded enthusiastically. Â âI love it so much. Â Itâs mine. Â Itâs mine.â

âDid Jenna make these?â Matthew asked Levi once he was done with his stretches, noticing a giant Tupperware filled with some sort of cookies. Â Matthew had seen some of the other guys in the locker room with them and decided to investigate. Â He took a massive bite of one and his entire mouth watered. Â In that short moment, he was sure heâd never had a cookie so good in his life. Â âThese are phenomenal,â he said with a full mouth.
âNah, Jennaâs not a baker,â Levi shook his head. Â âEffie made those.â
Matthewâs brows rose. Â He gulped the bite of the cookie down. Â âEffie? Â Effie bakes?â
Levi smirked, side-eyeing him. Â âEffie knows how to make and churn butter from scratch. Â She had to learn in the cult. Â She knows how to bake and cook a lot of things because she had to be a traditional wife. Â But she enjoys baking the most. Â Baking is what brings her the most joy, so sheâs started baking again.â
Matthew nodded nonchalantly. Â âShe can bake all kinds of stuff then?â
âBread, sweet stuffâŠyeah, pretty much,â he said.  âShe actuallyâŠwell, sheâs trying to find a job where she can put it to good use, since she actually likes doing it.â
âEffieâs getting a job?!â Matthew exclaimed, louder than he intended. Â Levi could only chuckle. Â Matthew felt the need to cover. Â âWhere? Â Whatâwhere? Â Whatâs she gonna do? Â How is sheâI mean, why?â
âSheâs gotta support herself, doesnât she? Â If she wants to move out, or earn her own moneyââ
âEffieâs moving out?!â
âSheâs not moving out tomorrow, Matthew, but sheâs going to be moving out soon.â
This was all news to Matthew, of course.  He tried to play it cool, calming himself down and not making a big deal out of it â well, more than he already had.  The fact that Levi, Jenna, and Effie were discussing jobs and moving out had absolutely nothing to do with him.  He was just on the outside.  He didnât need to be part of the decision making at allâŠat all.  But he still got nervous.  Effie was still learning about a lot.  And ultimately, at the end of the day, he wanted her to be safe.  A safe job.  A safe apartment.  âWhereâs she looking?â
âThereâs a cute little hipster coffee shop in the downtown core she has an interview with,â Levi informed him. Â âIf she gets the job, and if she enrols in the online business certificate program GeneviĂšve recommended to her, I promised to pay three months worth of rent until she can pay it on her own. Â Sheâd earn enough from minimum wage and tips for sure, especially downtown.â
Hipster coffee shop.  Online business certificate.  New apartment.  There was so much new information coming at Matthew that he didnât know how to process it all.  He was happy for Effie â he was â and he wished her only the best, but it was still a lot.  âWellâŠwhen you need help moving, call me and we could put these muscles to work,â he said, flexing his arm for dramatic effect, trying to hide the fact that he so obviously cared, and miserably failing to hide that fact to Levi.
Levi let out a haughty laugh. Â âIâll be sure to mention it.â
***
Matthew downed a shot of tequila â the good tequila â and smashed his shot glass down on the bar as the smooth liquid coated his throat and made his stomach burn. Â Noah let out a loud âWooooo!â and Sean, ever the dumbass, choked on it as it went down. Â Matthew almost spit up the shot out of laughter watching Sean struggle to swallow it, picking up his glass of whisky the bartender had just poured. Â âYouâre already wrecked, buddy,â Matthew chastised him as he got control of his coughs. Â âYouâre embarrassing.â
âShut the fuck up,â Sean sneered. Â âWe all know youâre trying to get all your alcohol in before Effie gets here.â
Matthew chuckled. Â âFat chance of that happening. Â Effieâs not coming.â
Sean rolled his eyes. Â âWell, either Iâm high or youâre wrong, because she just walked in the door.â
Matthewâs back stiffened as he whipped his head around to look through the crowd of people. Â Sure enough, he could see Effie raising her hand to chest level so the bouncer at the door could stamp her hand. Â Noah made a noise that sounded like a seagull and Sean let out a chuckle and a muffled âDude owes me a fucking drink for that oneâ. Â Before Matthewâs legs could move him forward, he noticed Meredith approach Effie; she hugged her and Effie allowed Meredith to grab her hand so she could guide her through the crowd and into their spot at the back of the lounge. Â The music was loud and the floor felt like it was vibrating but it was nothing compared to the beat of Matthewâs heart.
Fuck.
When Meredith and Effie finally made their way through, he saw that Effie was wearing Jennaâs ballet flats, skinny jeans that were still a bit big, and a sequined top that fit so big any other girls in the club would have probably worn it as a dress. Â He could feel the whisky burning his stomach and the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCK.
âEffiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee!!!!!â Claudia squealed once she noticed her, sauntering over to her in her high heels and bending down to hug her. Â âYou made it! Â Iâm sooooo happy!â she continued squealing. Â Matthew wondered if Effie noticed that Claudia was already drunk. Â âIs this your first time in a place like this?â
âYeah,â Effie nodded her head nervously. Â âIâm sorryâIâI know I wasnât supposed to be here and I said no, butââ
âAre you kidding? Â The more the merrier! Â Let me take you to Andrew so you can say happy birthday!â
Matthew watched as Claudia led her to Andrew, tapping him on the shoulder to reveal Effie. Â Andrew was happy to see her, and â knowing better than to go in for a hug â politely held his hand against his heart when she wished him a happy birthday. Â None of the guys on the team had ever touched her â well, except Matthew. Â He seemed to be the exception to a lot of things regarding Effie, and he was proud of that. Â He didnât want anyone else touching her, even if they were his teammates.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK
âYou came alone?â Andrew asked her. Â Effie nodded. Â âWeâll have to find you Matthew then. Â Heâd kill us if we didnât tell him you were here.â
Matthew didnât know what Andrew was saying â the music was too loud, and he couldnât read lips â but the cement in his legs finally dissolved and he found himself walking over to them, wanting to make his presence known at that very moment. Â When Effie saw him, he could swear her face lit up. Â âFancy seeing you here, Effie,â he smiled, holding his glass of whisky near his chest.
She went in for a hug.
Matthew was so shocked he almost didnât hug her back. Â Even Andrew was looking at them like heâd just seen a monkey perform a magic trick. Â Matthew draped both arms around her and hugged her back, making sure not to spill his whisky all over her. Â He tried not to let it seem like he was shocked â hugs should be a normal thing for Effie, he thought â so when she pulled away, he was already smiling down at her. Â âWhat brought you here?â
âI wanted to see what these places are like,â she said when she pulled away. Â She took a look down at his drink. Â âIs that iced tea?â
âWhiskey.â
She looked around at everyone else, noticing they were all holding glasses with drinks in them too. Â âIs everybody drinking alcohol?â
âPretty much,â Matthew giggled out.
âIâve never drunk alcohol before,â she revealed.
âDo you want to try some?â
âNo,â she shook her head. Â âIâm not ready.â
âThatâs okay. Â Do you want something to drink, then? Â Some water? Â Iâm sure the bar can make you a virgin drink if you ask for it.â
âA virgin drink?â
âVirgin means no alcohol,â Matthew covered quickly. Â âTheyâll make you whatever you want.â
Matthew watched as Effie considered it, looking over to the bar before she shook her head. Â âIâm not thirsty yet. Â Iâll go when Iâm thirsty.â
***
Effie didnât dance. Â She didnât drink. Â All she did was look.
By looking, she was learning. Â She watched how people interacted with one another in this type of setting and she internalized it. Â She watched girls approach the bar and get served by the bartender. Â She watched as guys flirted with them and bought them drinks. Â She watched people take shots and then ask for another. Â She watched people get handsy, with touches on hips and lower backs and arms the most popular spots she saw men putting their hands on women. Â She watched people drag one another towards the dance floor. Â She watched kisses being placed on necks and shoulders and lips, tongues dragging across, shocked that people would be doing so out in the open. Â She watched girls raise their drinks in the air and kick their leg up as they posed for photos with their friends. Â She watched girls move their hips seductively. Â She watched guys getting their bodies as close to them as possible. Â
âWhat are they doing?â she asked Matthew as she watched them dancing like a hawk.
âUhâŠitâs called grinding.â
Sheâd talk, and ask questions, and Matthew was beside her the entire time answering her questions and milking his whisky, not caring that he wasnât partying with Andrew or with the other boys, because when Effie was around, he was all about Effie â nobody else mattered. Â Heâd stay with her until last call if she wanted to stay that late. Â Heâd already resolved that heâd be going home when she was going home because he needed to make sure she got back to Aspen Woods safe, and also because there was no reason to be at the club when Effie was gone.
Did he hear himself? Â Did he really just say there was no reason to be at a club full of beautiful girls during his friendâs birthday?
Fuck. Â
Noah, Sean, and Johnny ended up coming back to the booth for some water. Â Johnny made eyes at Matthew and Matthew subtly gave him the finger; Effie didnât notice because she was looking over at the bar. Â âIâm thirsty. Â Iâm going to go get a drink.â
âLet me go for yââ
âNo,â she said sternly as Matthew was about to get up, standing up herself and holding her hand out. Â âIâve watched. Â I know what I need to do. Â I can go.â
Matthew gulped. Â He didnât want to deny her independence but he didnât want her to go alone. âAre you sure?â he asked. Â She nodded, and Matthew had to let her go. Â And all he did was look.
***
Effie approached the bar slowly, trying not to get shoved around by people crowding around the bar. Â It was much busier actually being in the crowd than just looking at it, and Effie was almost regretting her decision. Â Sheâs never been in a place with so many people. Â Well, that was a lie, maybe â church was always busy, obviously, especially the church for the Peopleâs Dominion. Â Sundays were the worst. Â But there were definitely not this many young people congregated in one place. Â Effie knew this is what young people did in the normal world â GeneviĂšve told her so. Â It was one thing to know about it, to be apart from it in a different area and watch; it was something completely different, actually being in it. Â
She made her way to right behind a few people at the bar â some scantily clad girls with some really pretty dresses on. Â Effie admired their beauty. Â They had beautiful long eyelashes and their lips were red and berry-coloured. Â Their skin was flawless and tanned â weird for April in Calgary, but tanned nonetheless. Â Effie wondered if they were wearing makeup, and wondered whether or not sheâd ever wear makeup herself. Â When they got their drinks, they began to move. Â One of them noticed Effie behind them and gave her a quick up-down. Â âTake our place, sweetie,â she said, letting Effie move into their place before she watched them make their way through the crowd and back onto the dance floor.
After watching, she knew now she had to get the attention of one of the bartenders. Â Every single one of them was busy pouring drinks. Â She watched as a couple of men on the opposite end of the bar raised their hands and the bartenders went over to them, so she decided to do the same. Â After a few minutes, a bartender came. Â âWhat can I get you?â
âUm, water please.â
âYou driving tonight, darling?â
Effie shook her head. Â âI donât drive. Â I just donât drink alcohol.â
âDo you want anything more exciting? Â I mean I can at least get you ginger ale or a coke.â
Effie didnât like coke â she thought it was too sweet â but when he mentioned ginger ale, she reconsidered. Â âOkay. Â Ginger ale is good.â
The bartender nodded, grabbing a glass and filling it with ice before getting the drink gun. Â âDo you have a tab going?â
What was a tab? Â Effie shook her head. Â âWhatâs a tab?â
The bartender looked at her skeptically. Â âHow are you paying, darling? Â Are you with a party?â
âOh! Â Iâm here for Andrewâs party! Â Andrew Mangiapane.â
âGot it,â the bartender winked. Â âHere you go, darling. Â Enjoy.â
Effie grabbed the drink and took a sip out of the straw. Â It was nice and cold, just the way she liked it. Â Just as she was about to leave and go back to Matthew, a big body slipped into the empty space beside her. Â A man â a very large man, it seemed, though she was so small that every man looked large to her â took up all the space. Â He was looking down at her with a very, very amused expression on his face. Â âGinger ale, girl?â he mocked her.
Effie couldnât tell. Â âWhatâs wrong with ginger ale?â
âYouâre gonna come out to a bar looking like a walking felon and order ginger ale?â he pressed, winking at her.
âA walking felon?â she repeating. Â She didnât have a clue what he was talking about.
âLet me buy you a drink,â he said. Â âA real drink.â
âI donât drink.â
âWanna start?â
âNo,â she said firmly.
âThatâs fine. Â I can think of better things we can get up to than drinking, anyways,â he smiled.
Effie furrowed her brows. Â âLike what?â
The guy smiled, and it was creepy, and she finally saw behind his eyes every thought and every intention he currently had. Â âLet me show you,â he said, and Effie saw, out of the corner of her eye, that he was bringing his hand up to touch her. Â At the same time, he was leaning his head down.
âHEY!â a loud voice boomed, and Effie immediately recognized it as Matthewâs. Â Before she could even see him or realize where he was coming from, he squeezed his way in between him and the man. Â Matthewâs hands were now on her body instead, the manâs hand nowhere near her. Â âGet the fuck out of here, buddy.â
âWho the fuck are you?â
âYou touch her one more time and youâre fucking dead,â Matthew growled.
âDead, eh? Â So you get to touch her but I donât?â
âFuck off.â
Effie was taken aback by the anger in Matthewâs voice. Â Sheâd never seen or heard him so angry. Â She knew he was capable of it, by how he played hockey, but she didnât think heâd be able to get this angry in a social setting. Â Her body tensed up. Â âCan we go back to our booth?â Effie asked loudly, placing her hand on Matthewâs, hoping to get his attention. Â
Matthew looked back at her quickly, and when he saw the trepidation on her face, he immediately listened to her. Â As he turned to leave, pushing Effie ahead of him with his hands still on her waist guiding her, he heard the man make one last call out to Effie. Â âYou donât want to have some fun, girl? Â I can show you a better time than this dick with my dick!â
Matthew had had it. Â He knew he couldnât punch out a guy in a bar. Â He knew he couldnât do much without causing a scene and the cops getting called and everything getting out of hand. Â So instead, he used everything at his disposal to make his point, the most important thing being his size. Â He turned around and flexed, standing up straight and making himself as physically big as possible, bumping up against the guy on the chest and backing him up against the bar. Â He had only a few inches on the guy, but he was suddenly intimidated. Â âYou even so much as breathe in her general direction and I wonât hesitate to knock your teeth down your throat,â Matthew growled, making fists with his hands. Â He didnât even wait for the guy to say anything. Â Instead, he just turned and walked away, noticing Effie waiting for him in the crowd.
âIs everything okay?â she asked.
âItâs fine,â he said curtly, leading her out of the crowd and back to the booth.
âAre you sure, Matthew?â
âPositive,â he mumbled as they finally got to the booth.
Effie turned around to get a good look at him. Â She knew he was lying because she could see how angry he was on his face. Â She got nervous â really nervous. Â âMatthewââ
âDid he touch you? Â He didnât touch you, did he?â Matthew demanded. Â He needed the answer to be no so he could calm down. Â
âPlease donât be mad at me.â
Everything in Matthew suddenly cleared. Â All he saw â all he was able to see â was Effieâs face, and how nervous she was, and how she was looking up at him with a certain tenseness. Â âEffieânoâI could never be mad at you. Â Iâm mad at that guy for being gross.â
He noticed Effie furrow her brows slightly. Â âWas he trying to get me to have sex with him?â
âI donât know. Â I donât know what he wanted. Â But he was being gross and the second I saw him wedge his way into the bar I got up.â
Effie nodded. Â âBut youâre not mad at me, are you?â she asked again.
âNever, Effie. Â Never.â

Annica had never been more flabbergasted or without words than when Effie asked her to explain what Instagram was.  GeneviĂšve had to step in, giggling as she mixed together the baked feta pasta the girls were having for lunch.  âItâs supposed to be a platform for sharing pictures,â GeneviĂšve explained.  âYou know, like the book youâre reading, or where youâre going, if you go on vacation, or if you see something cool, or letâs say you go out to eat and you want to show what youâre eatingâŠthat sort of thing.â
âPeople want to know that stuff?â Effie asked innocently, causing the girls to giggle. Â âPeople want to know that about me?â
âIâd love to follow you on Instagram. Â Iâd love to see how you see the world,â GeneviĂšve said. Â âIt would be a breath of fresh air, to be honest.â
âHow would it be a breath of fresh air if everybody is doing it?â Effie asked again.
âEverybodyâs not doing it.  Thatâs the point,â Annica said.  âInstagram has transformed into this, likeâŠGod, I donât even know what to call it.  Itâs one big advertisement now.â
Effie considered what the girls were telling her.  She trusted them both, which is why she asked.  Annica talked about it a lot, and was on it a lot, which is why Effie became interested in it in the first place.  GeneviĂšve was on it too, of course, running her own account and also having access to the account for her literary magazine Atomic (sheâd given Effie a bunch of old copies to read through, and she was going to devour them right after she finished GeneviĂšveâs book, which was technically a collection of essays).  For a girl who just wanted to be as normal as possible, it seemed to her like Instagram was the logical next step.  âCanâŠcan you guys help me make a profile?â
âOf course,â Annica said as all three of them sat down at the table. Â âWe can do it after lunch.â
âIâm not your therapist, but you should use it to chronicle your journey and what youâre doing outside of the cult now,â GeneviĂšve offered. Â âThatâs what I meant when I said Iâd love to see how you see the world. Â You can post all the things youâve been baking recently, or the pretty things you see in Calgary when youâre out and about on one of your walks.â
The second that GeneviĂšve mentioned âchronicle your journeyâ, it was like a switch went off in Effieâs brain. Â She nodded her head. Â âThatâs what Iâm gonna do. Â Letâs make a profile after lunch.â

When you get back from the road trip there will be something new. Â Levi requested a lemon meringue pie and you can have some too if you want.
Iâm gonna make sure Levi drives us home then
***
It was Effie who swung the door open excitedly. Â Matthew was excited to try the lemon meringue pie, but apparently she was excited about something else. Â Her eyes were as wide as the moon and as bright as the sun. Â âI got the job!â she screamed. Â
Levi dropped his bag as he screamed, catching her as she jumped from the doorway into his arms. Â Matthew started cheering too and started clapping; it was only then that Effie even remembered he was standing there, but he really didnât mind. Â âCongratulations, Effie!â he smiled from ear to ear. Â âLook at you go!â
She let go of her brother, but still held on to his arms.  âThat means I can get the apartment!  That means I can pay for the tuition for the business program!  That meansâŠIâŠIâm just so excited!â  She looked over at Matthew, seeing his smile, and did the unexpected. Â
She hugged him. Â She jumped into his arms just like she did with her brother and wrapped her arms around him tightly. Â He reciprocated easily, wrapping his own arms around her too. Â âThatâs amazing, Effie!â
âI justâaaaahhhhheeeeeppppp!â she half yelled-half squealed, letting go of Matthew so they could get back inside. Â April in Calgary was still cold. Â Both Matthew and Levi set their bags down at the front door and walked straight to the kitchen, following Effie who was practically kicking her heels up. Â âI canât even speak! Â I mean, this isâthis is me getting to work! Â I get to work! Â I get to make my own living and make my own money!â
âYou should be really proud of yourself,â Matthew said as he sat down on one of the kitchen stools. Â âAnd you get to do something you like to do! Â Not a lot of people get to say that.â
She nodded enthusiastically, opening the fridge. Â âHere, try this,â she said, taking out the lemon meringue pie she had promised them. Â âThe owner of the coffee shop said Iâm going to start with cookies and brownies and small stuff like that, and then maybe I can expand,â she said.
She cut the pie, plated it for her brother and Matthew, and handing them forks.  Matthew dug in automatically, shoving a giant piece in his mouth.  The second it hit his tongue, he groaned.  âOhâŠoh EffieâŠâ he said in between chews.  âThis is gonna be dangerous.â
âIs it good?â
âYou may need to bake me something every day, now, Effie. Â Either that or Iâm gonna come visit you every day.â

âPiiiiiiivvvooottttt!!!!!â
âIf you say that one more time, Iâm gonna kill you,â Matthew screamed at Sean holding the other end of the couch at the bottom of the stairs. Â
âPiiiiiiiiivvvââ
âMonahan!â
âIs everything okay, boys?â Effieâs sweet voice asked from the top of the stairs, popping her head out of her brand new apartment. Â
âWeâre fine!â Matthew called out, not wanting her to worry. Â âMonahan is just being a jackass!â
âAm not!â
They got the couch upstairs. Â They got the bedframe upstairs. Â They got the mattress upstairs. Â In a little one-bedroom apartment above a storefront on 8th Avenue SW in downtown Calgary, Effie Schaffer was moving in. Â Well, Effie was in her apartment unpacking boxes and organizing everything. Â Levi, Matthew, Sean, and Jacob were helping move in her furniture. Â She was going to thank them gracefully with another pie â this time, sheâd experimented with a banana cream pie with salty bourbon caramel. Â It was in the fridge waiting. Â Each of them would get a nice big slice.
GeneviĂšve came over for a bit, helping Effie with organizing the kitchen. Â And Jenna dropped by after work, making sure everything was in order. Â Jacob and his piece of pie left with GeneviĂšve, and Levi and his piece of pie left once he knew everything was in order, and Sean and his piece of pie left after he and Matthew had finished putting the couch together. Â Matthew hadnât left with his piece of pie yet. Â Matthew stayed. Â
âThis apartment is so great for you, Effie,â he said as he sat down on the couch, admittedly exhausted from all the hauling but despite that, still not wanting to leave. Â There was so much to do and say and admire with Effie now that people werenât around, and though heâd never admit it out loud to them, he always wanted to be alone with her. Â It was different when he was alone with her. Â With other people around, he couldnât stare at her too long without being caught, or they couldnât talk about things from their previous conversations that only they knew about. Â With people gone, they could. Â Heâd stay until Effie told him to go home; if she would even tell him to go home. Â He was unsure if she knew she could tell people to leave because she was tired or just wanted to be alone.
âTomorrow Levi and I are going to go to the mall to get me a laptop for school,â she said, opening her fridge. Â âMy course starts in June. Â Itâs going to be really exciting.â
âThatâs great,â he said, looking at her from the couch. Â âItâs business, right?â
She nodded her head enthusiastically. Â âBusiness administration. Â Are you going to come try this pie or what?â
Matthew hauled his sore body off the couch and made his way towards the kitchen, standing next to Effie as she sliced a piece of the pie for him. Â He reached over her head and grabbed two plates from the cupboard, setting them down. Â Their bodies were close â purposely, he had to admit selfishly, on his part â so that every time she turned the pie and made a slice, her arm and elbow would touch him. Â He watched as she carefully plated the slices.
Before she moved to grab the forks, she looked up at Matthew. Â âCan I try something?â she asked timidly.
He furrowed his brows slightly. Â âOf course.â
Effie hesitated, looking Matthew in the eye, wondering if she should really go through with whatâs been on her mind since Andrewâs birthday party. Â She resolved with herself to never let fear get in the way of her making a decision in her new life, especially now that she was free to make those decisions. Â So she did it. Â She did what she wanted to do.
Effie Schaffer stood on her tip-toes and kissed Matthew Tkachuk. Â
It was light, chaste, and pure; no tongue, no longer than three seconds, and no warning. Â But she kissed him. Â With her eyes closed. Â And for the first time in a long, long, long time, when she closed her eyes and kissed someone her body didnât seize up. Â When she closed her eyes and kissed him, she didnât think of the other kisses she had to endure rather than enjoy. Â When she closed her eyes and kissed him, she didnât see Abraham. Â Matthewâs lips were much softer; there was nothing about him like was like Abraham, not one atom on his body. Â She liked it that way. Â And the fact that she didnât remember her past life when it happened made it all the better for her.
Matthew, for his part, was shocked. Â Shocked that she, Effie Schaffer, who grew up abused in a cult and didnât start wearing pants until just a few months ago, would do something so forward. Â Heâd be lying if he said he didnât want it to happen, because he did, against all of his better judgement and the rational side of his brain telling him not to. Â âWas that okay for you?â he asked softly.
Effie nodded. Â âOf course it was. Â I wouldnât have done it if I didnât think it would be okay for me.â
Matthewâs word vomit got the best of him. Â âDo you think itââ
âDonât talk to me like youâre my therapist please,â she said quickly. Â âTalk to me like youâre a guy.â
âSorry,â he apologized quickly.
Effie looked down, suddenly nervous. Â She wasnât second-guessing her decision to kiss him, but what she was doing now was wondering what Matthew thought of it. Â Heâd kissed her back. Â He didnât just stand there and take the kiss â he kissed her back. Â He moved his lips too. Â That meant something, right? Â âMatthew?â she finally asked, her voice soft.
âHmm?â
âDo you like me?â she asked.
âOf course I like you, Effie.â
âNo, I mean do youâŠdo you like me.  Like how boys like girls sometimes.â
Matthew looked her in the eye, his entire ego dropping to the pits of his stomach. Â Having the completely inability to be able to lie to her, he gave her a quick nod of the head. Â âYeah, I do.â
Effie bit her bottom lip. Â She didnât know a lot, but she knew this was a huge moment. Â But she swallowed hard, her thoughts getting the best of her. Â âEven after everything that happened to me?â
Matthewâs heart broke. Â It always did when he spoke with Effie. Â âOf course,â he said simply. Â âYouâre not what happened to you. Â Youâre so much more than that, Effie.â
Effie nodded her head.  She knew that.  Dr. Barlow, Levi, Jenna, GeneviĂšve â everyone important in her life had been telling her that.  She knew it was true, but she needed to hear the words from Matthew.  She couldnât just assume them.  âI want to let you know that was the first time in my life that Iâve initiatedâŠphysical contact with a man,â she said quietly, her voice just above a whisper.  âI did itâŠI did it with you because I feel comfortable with you.  I wouldnât have even thought about doing that a year ago butâŠbut youâve really helped me these past few months, and you make me feel so comfortable to try new things like corn dogs or kissing.  Even justâŠyou know, touching.  I just want you to know that.â
Matthew nodded. Â This was huge. Â He was pretty sure he hadnât let out a breath since her lips met his. Â âI hope you always feel comfortable around me.â
âI think I will,â she said, smiling slightly. Â
Matthew smiled. Â âWell, in that case, can I kiss you again?â
âNo.â
Matthew chuckled to himself. Â Her deadpan delivery dissolved everything. Â She was in total control. Â âFair enough.â
Effie moved to grab the forks from the drawer she was standing in front of. Â Before she put them on the plates, she looked up at him again. Â âBut if I kissed you again, would you like it?â
Matthew nodded his head. Â âWould you?â
Effie nodded her head. Â
***
âWhat about this?â Matthew asked, pointing to a fake plant hanging from a little black pot. Â âEverybody loves fake plants.â
Ikea had a lot of options â too many, if Effie was being honest. Â But she nodded her head, and Matthew took the initiative to grab the plant and put it in the cart. Â There were a bunch of frames already in there, and some decorative stuff for her new place. Â âMatthew?â she looked up at him.
âHmm?â he looked down.
She stood on her tip-toes and kissed him.
***
âIâve got an Americano with room for milk for Matthew!â the barista called out, setting the drink down on the counter. Â Matthew approached to grab his drink, bringing it to the other station where he was able to pour in his milk and two packs of brown sugar before popping the lid on. Â He rejoined Effie.
âDoes it feel like youâre cheating when I bring you to Starbucks?â he asked her in a light-hearted tone.
âMatthew?â she looked up at him.
âHmm?â he was already looking down.
She stood on her tip-toes and kissed him.
***
âI think these are your best ones yet,â Matthew said through a mouth full of chocolate-dipped almond biscotti. Â Effie was trying out recipes. Â He was her unofficial-official taste-tester. Â The whole team was, really. Â And if they sold well in the coffee shop, the manager would allow her to expand. Â So far, so good. Â âI love the almond flavour. Â Itâs there but itâs not too strong, you know?â
He watched as Effie nodded her head. Â âMatthew?â she asked, looking at him eye-to-eye since he was sitting down on one of the stools in her kitchen.
He knew what was coming.
She leaned forward and kissed him. Â His lips tasted like almonds.
***
âAre you excited for the movie?â Matthew asked as he poured the popcorn from the steaming hot bag into the bowls Effie got for them.
âVery,â she nodded. Â Tonight theyâd be watching Emma, the 2020 movie version of Jane Austenâs classic. Â Effie liked to see all the amazing clothes the women used to wear. Â A part of her wanted to dress up like that now, but she knew sheâd get stared at. Â The other part of her never wanted to wear a dress again if she didnât have to. Â âMatthew?â she asked.
âHmm?â he looked down at her. Â He knew what was coming.
She stood on her tip-toes and kissed him.
***
It was always when the two of them were alone. Â It never happened when she would wait for him and Levi and Jacob with Jenna and GeneviĂšve after games. Â It never happened if they were ever out with a big group, or even just with Levi and Jenna. Â Matthew was sure Effie had told them she was kissing him â she probably told Dr. Barlow too, now that he thought about it â but nobody had ever approached him about it. Â âI heard youâve been kissing Effie.â Â
It was always the same, but he wouldnât have it any other way. Â They were alone. Â They were usually doing something mundane. Â Then Effie would ask âMatthew?â in her soft, sweet voice. Â Heâd look down at her. Â Sheâd go on her tip-toes, and sheâd kiss him.
It was always initiated by her. Â

âCan I take you out on a date?â Matthew asked one day when they were alone in her apartment. Â
Effie looked shocked.  Surprised, even, though Matthew didnât think the question was out of the ordinary.  âYouâŠyou want to go out on a date with me?â she asked.
âYes, of course I do,â Matthew said, wanting there to be no doubts in her mind.  âYou know that I like you, Effie.  I think itâs something that could be really fun for youâŠfor us.â
Effie was deep in thought â Matthew could tell.  She nodded slightly.  âWe have been doing a lot of kissing latelyâŠâ she mused.  He couldnât help but smile, even though it faded slightly when she looked up at him nervously.  âMatthew, IâIâve never been on a date before.â
âI figured as much.â
âI mean, Iâeven with Abraham. Â He neverâI mean, I was just told I was marrying him because he wanted me. Â I told you that. Â But even before that. Â Women couldnât date. Â Nobody couldâI mean most couples were just thrust together, butâbutâwomen werenât even allowed in the same room alone with the opposite sex because weâd tempt them.â
âI know Effie, itâs okay,â he said softly. Â âListen, if youâre scared or nervous or not ready, we donât have to. Â But you know that I like you. Â And I know you like me too. Â Itâs what people do when they like each other. Â So if youâll let me, we could go out for dinner or something. Â Nothing too big or fancy. Â Just a dinner.â
If she went on a date with Matthew, Effie would be giving a giant middle finger to her past. Â She would be asserting her agency in making her own choices. Â Sheâd be doing something she wasnât allowed to do for eighteen years of her life. Â It was an action of justice at its very core â going on a date with a boy because she liked him and found him attractive. Â She wasnât even allowed to touch other men besides her husband less than two years ago because of his abusive and totalitarian âsermonsâ. Â She remembered back to her begging to her mother not to get married at fourteen and her mother refusing to listen to her. Â Here was Matthew saying âIf youâre scared or nervous or not ready, we donât have to.â Â
Effie nodded her head. Â âI want to go out on a date with you.â
Matthew smiled bashfully. Â He was sure his cheeks were going to turn red like some sort of teenager. Â âWhat kind of food dâyou wanna eat?â
***
âHowâd you get that shiner, buddy?â Sean asked.
âIâm not gonna talk about it,â Matthew mumbled.
***
âWhat the hell happened to you?â Johnny asked the moment he saw him in the locker room.
âIâm not gonna talk about it,â Matthew mumbled.
***
Mark Giordano was not happy to see one of his star players show up to the arena with a black eye. Â But he didnât want to confront Matthew in a full locker room, so he waited until there was only a few people around â and even then, they were far away enough that he knew they wouldnât really pick up on the conversation. Â âWhat the fuck happened to your eye?â Mark asked, approaching Matthew
âIâm not gonna talk about it,â Matthew mumbled, not even looking at his captain.
Mark furrowed his eyebrows. Â There had to be something, a clue of some sort, to help him get to the bottom of this. Â It was nobodyâs birthday, so Matthew hadnât gone out to a bar. Â He didnât get into a fight or scuffle on the ice that was too bad, so it couldnât have been that either. Â But then Mark remembered. Â âI thought you spent time with Effie last niââ
âI said Iâm not gonna talk about it!â Matthew hissed as he got up abruptly, stomping away and leaving the room.
Mark took a deep breath in, putting his hands on his hips. Â Kids. Â He had to get to the bottom of this. Â It was in his nature. Â And as captain, he took his role seriously. Â He needed to make sure his teammates were okay. Â The media was definitely going to pick up on the black eye, and theyâd need a good cover. Â He left the locker room, following the path Matthew took, knowing he was probably letting off some steam in an empty trainerâs room. Â Mark popped his head into two of them before finding Matthew in a third, facing away from the door and taping his stick. Â Mark knew Matthew heard him walk in and shut the door behind him, but Matthew didnât turn around.
âSit,â Mark said sternly.
Matthew took a deep breath in but did as he was told. Â He wasnât going to defy Mark â he respected him way too much. Â And he knew he had out let out the steam by telling someone, and Mark was probably the best person to tell. Â
Mark sat down casually beside him, hunched over with his elbows on his knees so it looked like they were about to have a casual conversation, just in case anyone else barged in. Â âTell me what happened.â
Matthew took a deep breath. Â âI took her out on a date last night.â
âEffie.â
âYeah,â Matthew nodded slightly. Â âAnd it was nice. Â We went to a really nice Italian restaurant downtown. Â She was having so much fun. Â And she came back to my place andââ
âPlease donât tell meââ
âNo noâit wasnâtâno,â he emphasized. Â âI might be an idiot but Iâm not that much of an idiot.â
âYou canât fault me for thinking it.â
Matthew shook his head. Â âShe came back to my place and I guessâwell, I guess because the whole thing was so new for her, it was mentally exhausting. Â She sorta kept saying how tired she was. Â I told her she could stay over. Â And it was fine. Â We were just sleeping in the same bed.â
âAnd then?â
Matthew grumbled. Â âAnd then I moved.â
There was a pause. Â âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
***
âIâm so sorry,â Effie whispered through tears, looking at Matthewâs back as he sat on the edge of the bed, pressing a bag of frozen peas against his face.
The entire night had been lovely. Â Sheâd felt so good, and so comfortable, and so normal. Â The food was delicious. Â The walk through the park was magical. Â The thingâs theyâd talked about ran through her mind the entire night. Â They hadnât stopped talking. Â Theyâd gone back to his place. Â She was tired. Â He suggested she stay over, knowing Levi wouldnât mind. Â She agreed. Â She borrowed an old t-shirt and shorts. Â Theyâd fallen asleep in his bed. Â And it was lovely. Â
And then at some point, in the middle of the night, with Effieâs back facing Matthew as he switched positions in his sleep, all she felt was a body pressing up against her slightly. Â So she did the only thing she needed to do.
She punched him. Â Hard. Â
She hit between his eye and nose. Â A loud âFUCK!â escaped him after the sound of skin hitting skin permeated through his bedroom. Â Her body seized up and, like countless times before, she jumped out of bed. Â When she turned around to look down at the bed, Matthew was clutching his eye in pain. Â It was then that she realized just that â it was Matthew. Â It wasnât Abraham. Â
âMâMâMatthew,â she stuttered out. Â
âWhat the fuck, Effie?!â his temper got the best of him.
âMâMatthewâIâI thoughtâAbrahamâI thought you were Abrahamââ
With his one clear eye, he looked at her. Â His chest was heaving. Â But he didnât say anything. Â His shoulders slumped slightly. Â And without saying anything, he got up out of the bed and walked out of the room.
Effie immediately dropped to her knees on the bed. Â Itâs what she would have done before, to ask for forgiveness for denying her husband satisfaction whenever and wherever he wanted it. Â But now, in the new world, in her new world, it wasnât like that. Â She didnât have to repent for her sin. Â It didnât have to be that way. Â Abraham wasnât in bed with her. Â It was Matthew. Â Sweet, soft, rough around the edges Matthew.
She started crying. Â She couldnât believe that sheâd just done that to him. Â She cried so hard she didnât even realize heâd come back into the room quietly, with a bag of peas pressed against his face where sheâd punched him. Â
After she apologized, and he said nothing, she crawled over to him, the last of her tears spilling over her cheeks. Â She lay her hand on his back. Â âMatthewââ
He flinched at her touch. Â She recoiled her hand back so quickly she didnât know she could move that fast. Â Her heart tightened in her chest, knowing sheâd just caused him â and was continuing to cause him â such physical pain, when all heâd given her over the last few months was patience and support. Â
Matthew heard her sharp intake of breath when he flinched. Â He didnât mean to flinch â really â he just didnât expect her to touch him after sheâd just punched his face for brushing up against her. Â He took a few deep breaths to control his emotions before he looked behind him, seeing her tear-stained face looking at him. Â
When he saw the lingering fear in her eyes, he couldnât be angry.
***
Matthew played his hockey game, and he managed to score a goal and record an assist, but after the game, his mind was somewhere else. Â Effie hadnât shown up to the game; she wasnât waiting with Jenna and GeneviĂšve, and Jenna told him she was tired from work which is why she stayed home. Â He needed to talk to her. Â Needed to talk to her. Â But he didnât know how, and he didnât know what to do. Â
Jacob, GeneviĂšve, Levi, and Jenna all left early, leaving him to go home alone. Â He trudged down the hallway and took the elevator to the parking garage, his feet dragging on the concrete and he walked with his head down, a storm forming in his mind about what he was going to do.
âMatthew?â he heard a soft voice.
He shot his head up. Â For a second he thought he was hallucinating, or some sort of mirage, but no â Effie was in the parking garage, standing right next to his car. Â He had no idea how she got in but at this point he didnât really care. Â All he cared about was that she was there. Â He rushed over to her as quickly as his legs would take him. Â âYouâre here,â he said, once he got close to her. Â Her face was red and blotchy. Â He hated seeing it like that. Â It reminded him of the incident in the washroom. Â âWhatâs going on?â
âI spent the whole day crying thinking about what I did to you,â she said, her voice sounding like she was on the verge of tears again.
âEffie, I told you it was alriââ
âItâs not alright, Matthew,â she asserted. Â Heâd said it all last night while she was profusely apologizing, but she didnât believe him. Â Heâd said it up until she was picked up by a taxi to be taken back to her place. Â Heâd begged her to stay. Â She couldnât see how she could when sheâd just punched him in the face. Â âI wish you would stop saying that. Â I hit you. Â I gave you a black eye. Â Nothing about that is alrightââ
âEffieââ
âI justâI thought you were Abraham because heâd do that a lot andâbecause I would always try to say no otherwise, and so he had to get me at a point whereââ
âEFFIE,â he said loudly, over her frantic voice, and she stopped immediately.  They stared at each other for a few moments in pure silence before Effie could feel Matthewâs hands grab hers.  He pulled her towards him and wrapped his arms around her tightly, and she nestled her face into his chest and inhaled his scent.  A wave of peace flowed throughout her body.  He hadnât asked to touch her, but at the same time, she hadnât flinched.  His touch was soâŠso pure and so soft â so unlike anything else sheâd felt before â that there was no reason to flinch or be scared.  His hands wouldnât hurt her like other hands had.  She realized this, inhaling his scent one more time.  He wouldnât hurt her.
When he released the hug, she brought her own hands up to cradle his face.  His facial hair was a bit rough against her skin, but it was still the softest sheâd ever felt on a man.  Maybe it was because he always gave her butterflies.  Maybe it was something else.  âYouâre so soft, MatthewâŠâ her voice was barely above a whisper. Â
âWhatâs that mean?â he asked, his voice equally as low. Â âIâm not soft.â
âYes, you are. Â You are for me,â she clarified. Â âYouâre the softest man Iâve ever felt. Â I donât want that to change.â
He realized what she meant now. Â It hit him like a ton of bricks, like most things did with Effie. Â âIt wonât,â he asserted. Â âYou can count on me.â
âI know I can,â she nodded her head.
Matthew couldnât take it anymore. Â They couldnât continue this in the parking garage. Â âCan I take you back to my place again and we can talk? Â Properly?â
Effie nodded her head. Â
***
Matthew let Effie roam in his kitchen while he changed out of his suit into some comfier clothes. Â When he emerged from his room, Effie was sitting on his couch â just like she had been last night â a glass of water in her hand, sipping from it delicately. Â He knew sheâd end up back on his couch since she had commented last night how big and comfy it was. Â Matthew didnât even know where it was from â it came with the apartment. Â But ever since sheâd sat on it and made the comment, he found it comfier.
He walked over to her slowly, and she watched him, not saying a word. Â Instead of taking a seat beside her, he knelt in front of her, between her legs. Â He was still almost at eye level with her. Â Boldly, he took the glass of water out of her hand and set it down on the coffee table. Â He grabbed her hands in his and rubbed the backs of her hands with his thumb tenderly. Â âCan I ask you a question?â he asked.
âOf course.â
âWhat happened that night? Â After you punched Abraham?â
Effie was silent for a moment.  âIâŠIâI got pregnant.â
The words stabbed Matthew in the heart. Â He squeezed her hands to let go of some pain, and she squeezed back. Â âIâm so sorry for what I did, Effieââ
âYou have nothing to apologize about,â she said. Â âYou did nothing wrong.â
âBut I scared you.  And I promised Iâd never do that.  And it brought up bad memoriesâŠâ
Effie was shaking her head. Â âYou didnât scare me. Â My mind did. Â My mind thought you were Abraham. Â But youâre the farthest thing from him, Matthew, and you need to know that. Â You donât scare me at all. Â Not even a bit. Â Not like Abraham scared me.â
Matthew bit his tongue so he could feel some pain and keep himself from crying.  To think about how she was so scared for eighteen years of her life, and now she wasnât, and part of that was because he was around, helping her feel comfortableâŠhe couldnât have asked for anything more.  He knew he shouldnât feel guilty for what happened, especially since Effie was telling him what she was telling him, but he knew he would for a while.  Itâd take him a while to get over it.  âWhen we went on the dateâŠdid youâI mean, did you just do it because you felt like you had to?  Because you had to experience a first date to be normal or whatever?  Or did you actually want to?â he asked.
âI actually wanted to,â she said without hesitation.  Matthew could feel his heart beating in his chest.  âI wanted to, and with you.  Not with another guy and not with, like, Sean or whatever,â she said, and it made Matthew break out into a smirk.  âIt was you.  And even thoughâŠI meanâI mean I think we couldâŠand we wouldâŠâ she tried to formulate her thought into coherent words. Â
âBut I donât know if we should,â he finished her sentence.
Effie nodded.  âAt least not yet.  Iâm notâIâm not mentally there yet.  Iâm not ready.  And it wouldnât be fair to bring you along so closely with something I know Iâm not ready for.  Thereâs so much I still need to learnâŠabout, wellâŠeverything.â
Matthew nodded his head. Â He understood completely. Â âYou know that I never expected anything, right?â he asked.
âOh, of course not,â she said like it was the obscenest idea in the world.  She knew Matthew would never expect that of her.  âI think whatâll be good is you going home during the summer, and me starting my course in JuneâŠand by the time you come back in September, you might even see a brand new me.â
Matthew couldnât help but smile at that. Â He rubbed the backs of her hands with his thumbs again. Â âYouâre already a brand new person, Effie. Â When I come back youâll just be wiser. Â Do you promise to message me on Instagram about everything you learn and the stuff you experience?â
Effie nodded her head, a smile adorning her face now. Â âMatthew?â she asked after a moment of silence.
This time, he looked up at her. Â He knew what was coming.
This time, she didnât need to stand on her tip-toes. Â All she had to do was lean forward and kiss him.

I Love You, With A Touch Of Tragedy And Quite Madly. (Mildred Ratched x Reader)
summary: a regular day at work turns out to be not so regular
a/n: this is for @sassicaismysupreme surpriseeee i was ur secret fic writer. Not important, but this is my first fic ever so i hope it is any good!
warnings: slapping, angst!
Your relationship with Mildred was a fairytale. You were all sunshine and blue skies. Though some clouds might be there with the occasional rainy day, there were rarely thunderstorms.
Mildred only added to your sunshine. She has been like some sort of rainbow hanging above your little heart island, making it a happier place. Rainbows are rare and special, and thatâs also how you looked at Mildred.
It had always been happy. You were used to it like that, and you liked it that way. No complications, no anxiety, no fears, no anger. Mildred was some sort of safe haven where you just never had any problems. That's probably why the situation affected you so much.
It was one of those blue sky, happy sunny days. You opened your eyes, closed them again against the rays that fell right through your curtains. You couldn't be annoyed for long though, because your head immediately met your sleeping girlfriend's.
Your mouth fell into a soft smile upon seeing her. She always seemed to have that effect on you, no matter where you guys were. It once even happened at a funeral, and Mildred had to give u a soft warning glare. Not that that helped though, it only made you smile more. She made you smile. At home, at work, in the grocery store, on the street, at parties, anywhere at anytime. She was quite simply everything to you.
You pressed a soft kiss on her temple âWake up darling, weâll be late.â You whispered, before running your hand softly through her hair. The sun made her features even more gorgeous than they usually were, accentuating her sharp cheekbones and her beautiful big lips. Your hand left her hair and ran softly from the forming frown between her eyebrows all the way down to her nose before putting it on her now blushing cheeks.
âGoodmorning sunshine.â You giggled. A soft smile spread on Mildredâs face as she finally opened her eyes. Her brown eyes looked nearly gold because of the sun. You begged. Wished to stay like this forever, but the alarm went off, pulling you both out of your trances. You grinned at her before you sat up and grabbed her wrist. She positioned herself right in your arms. You let your nose slip into her beautiful reddish-brown hair, smelling her expensive shampoo.
You never got used to moments like these. They made your heart race, and you were sure it also grew 3 times bigger. âI love youâ you whispered into her hair, as if making a promise to yourself that your heart would forever beat for her. âI love you too honey.â She said before yawning. âAww are you sleepy baby?â you teased. âDid i wear you out last night?â your said, and you winked at her. Mildred glared at you, but you could see the pink tones covering her ears and cheeks. You kissed her softly, before pulling away again but resting your forehead against hers, noses touching. âWe have to get ready.â You whispered. âI know.â She replied. She put her soft hands on your cheeks, as her long slender thumbs started stroking the area right beside your nose. âI love you.â You said again, just for the sake of reassuring your promise to her. She knew, because she smiled and when you looked deep into her warm brown eyes you saw that same promise. âI love you too, lets get dressed.â
You were in the car to work, both of you working at the hospital. Mildred drove, always. You did try once, but then nearly hit a car because you were too busy staring at her. You didnât mind not driving, it meant you could stare at her without the posibillity of killing an entire family and their dog.
As you both arrived on the parking lot, you made sure your hat was on right and straightened Mildredâs too. You glanced around, saw nobody and kissed her. It always cleared your mind, kissing her. It seemed to draw out any negative feelings and fill your head with love, much like a love potion.
You both stepped out of the car and went to your respective entrances. You gave Mildred a small smile before parting.
Work went slowly, but good. You were good friends with Huck, and he made time speed up just a little faster, plus seeing Mildred at lunch really made you optimistic again.
After lunch, Mildred called you and Huck to a treatment room. There was a girl there, around your age, and she looked frightened.
âNurse Finnigan, nurse y/l/n, this is miss Ruth Davis. Sheâs here because of unexplainable feelings towards women, which is simply unacceptable, donât you guys think?â You pushed up an eyebrow and looked at Huck, who also had a confused expression on his face. âWell?â Mildred asked, a slight tinge to her tone now. Huck cleared his throat. âYeah uh sure, unacceptable.â
You, however shook your head. âI donât think she should be tortured simply for liking women. I donât see a problem with it honestly.â You said as calmly as you could. You met Hucks gaze, saw his shocked eyes but also his slight grin. You averted your gaze to meet Mildreds eyes, saw a flash of panic. Panic? No, now it was definitely anger. âNurse y/l/n thats incredibly inappropriate. I suggest you find another job if you think that way.â She said, her voice sounded a little too forced for your liking. âIâd gladly do, but um I know you donât have a problem with it either.â You said and moved your head to look at the girl. âShe doesnât,â you told her. âIâd know-â
Before you had the time to finish your sentence, you felt a hard burning on your cheek and you stumbled tot he ground. She had hit you. Your mind was running 800 miles per second. You stared back up at her with tears threatening to come out of your eyes.
âI shouldâve known it wasnât real, right? That this was all a big game to you. That you didnât actually care about me.â You whispered and you tried to lean on your shakey hands. âIâm sorry for believing you didnât actually hate me, Iâm sorry you had to keep your act up for so long. I just thought-â your voice broke mid sentence. âI thought we were happy.â You blinked. Didnât, couldnât look at her. You opened your mouth to speak again, but instead a sob made itâs way out. You shook your head feverently and ran past her. âDonât come after me.â You murmered as your shoulders touched. Away. Away. Away.
You didnât know how long you had ran for, you wondered how you had even kept on going that far. Breathing was becoming, air scraping itâs way through your lungs, making them bleed. Doesnât matter, you told yourself. It definitley wasnât bleeding as badly as your heart
You only ever wanted to be hers. To watch the sunset with her ever night in the summer, and sit by the ocean just because you could. To give her hugs for warmth when she had underestimated the cool sting of the autumn air. To hold her hand on walks during the snow in the winter, and buy her the perfect christmas presents. To pick her some blooming daisies and lavender and violets in the spring and make a bouqet, just for her. You wanted to make her feel wanted.
You came to a halt as you realized where you had run to. Her house. Because that was home. She was. Your face crumpled and you started sobbing. You rand to the nearest wall to steady yourself, before giving up and letting yourself slide down the wall. You let your head fall in your hands and buried your shaking fingers in your hair.
âYes, Iâm scared of you! You hit me!â you screamed out, voice breaking halfway through out of frustration, anger and love. That one was hard to admit, but you knew you were mad because you loved her. Because you had spent months making a flower garden with all of your memories, and all that you knew of her, and all of your feelings, and she had just set it on fire.
âLook y/n Iâm sorry, I donât know what to do.â She said. Her voice was soft and you tried to listen for any sign of a lie. You couldnât find any. You whipped your head up, glaring at her with such passion that even you were scared of what you were capable of. âYou shouldâve thought about that before you put you whole palm on my face, donât you think?â you snarled. You saw her chin tremble, but you couldnât bring yourself to care. âYou know, you always tell your patients not to be afraid, but i donât think thereâs anyone thatâs more scared than you. I know you are, donât even pretend you arenât. I know you.â You paused for a second, took a shaky breath in, cursed at yourself internally. âYou might not know it, but I do. 4 months donât just go by, Mildred. Neither for you nor for me.â
You saw a tear slip out of her eye. âIâm so sorry y/n. I do know. I do care. Iâm sorry.â She breathed, and you could practically hear your heart break. âI donât know what to do, but I do care. I canât-â her sentence got broken up by a big intake of breath, before a loud sob escaped her mouth. âI was so scared.â She cried. Your eyebrow pushed up. You should've known she was afraid, should've known she never agreed to do the therapy, shouldâve known you burnt your own flowers the minute you started talking. But you were confused, and you felt hurt and you reacted on that.
You didn't even think about her feelings, if you were going to be honest with yourself. You wanted to feel guilty, but deep down you knew you couldnât blame yourself. She hurt you, she hit you and that wasnât going to be forgotten in a heartbeat.
But you loved her. More than anything. And so you tried to pick up all of the broken pieces, yours and hers, and tried to glue all of it into one big love ball.
âIâm not gonna say that its okay, Mildred, because itâs not and you know that.â You started. You saw her eyes scarily looking up into yours. You took a deep breath in before continuing. âBut this doesnât mean I donât love you anymore.â Her eyes watered again. âIt doesnât?â You shook your head. âNo it doesnât, but you try doing that again and I wonât give you another chance.â Mildred shook her head violently. âAlright, come on, weâll go home.â
That night before you guys went to bed, you approached her.
âMildred,â you said as she was going to the bathroom. She turned around, her beautiful curls falling just right over her shoulders. âYeah?â she said. You smiled. âI love you.â She hid a small blush while turning back around. âI love you too darling.â She replied. You smiled to yourself. Though this was too big of an issue to just blow over, you knew you and Mildred would work through it. Because you loved her, even if it was tragedy sometimes.

Out Of Time ~ 140
MASTERLIST
< previous chapter
Word Count: 2,325ish
Summary: The Starks receive unexpected visitors, that come with a plan.Â
Warning: Possible gif overload. Gifs arenât mine. I just love Tony and Morgan.
Before the small Stark family knew it, it was October of 2023. And their house had become a wonderful home for them.
Morgan was four and almost the spitting image of her father. She was smart like him too. She loved working with her father in his workshop or playing outside in the tent Tony bought for her.Â
Y/N had got into gardening, especially because they were kind of far away from any grocery store. Tony was a willing helping hand and was slowly becoming a small farm boy. It bought a few small goats, an alpaca, a couple of chickens, two cats, and was planning on getting a dog for Morgan for Christmas.
Steve and Natasha only visited when Tony was gone or Y/N and Morgan went to them. Tony was still struggling to forgive after everything, and Y/N wasnât willing to push Tony more than he had willingly done himself.
Y/N was currently in the kitchen, making lunch, while Tony was âbeing helpfulâ.
âAre these our gojis?â Tony wondered, looking at the bowl of berries.
âThey are not,â Y/N answered as she cut tomatoes.
âWhatâs wrong with ours?â
âYour alpaca ate them all.â
âOh.â
âAll of them.â
Tony laughed, moving to the other side of Y/N. âWhat a glowing endorsement. First of all Gerald is our alpaca.â
Y/N scoffed out a small chuckle. âHeâs not my alpaca if heâs eating my gojiâs.â
âOkay.â He grabbed a handful of berries. âTheyâre gonna be nice in the salad right there, right?â
âNo.â Y/N quickly reach over to stop Tony. âDonât, donât, donât!â Tony looked at her with big doe eyes. âCould you put it down?â She gently pushed his arm away. âAnd get out of my kitchen.â
âOkay.â He turned towards the stove and crashed into some pots. âWhoops.â Trying to bite back a smile, Y/N looked up at the ceiling. âWeâre good here, right?â
âYeah, weâre great.â She got back to chopping. âTell Madam Secretary that lunch is in five.â
âI will collect our alpha female, posthaste,â Tony replied, before exiting the house.
Y/N couldnât help but grin as she focused back on the food. She was so lucky. So very lucky.
~~~
Tony walked down the porch steps, clapping out a beat.Â
âChow time!â He called out to his daughter, heading towards her little play area. âMaguna?â He sat on a small chair outside of her tent. âMorgan H. Stark. Want some lunch?â
Morgan appeared from the fort with a suit helmet on and a fake suit glove. She had her gloved hand pointed at her father.
âDefine lunch or be disintegrated,â she demanded in her young voice.
âOkay,â he ran his fingers down the helmet to the edge. âYou should not be wearing that, okay? That is part of a special anniversary gift Iâm making for mom.â He kissed the side of the helmet before removing the helmet from Morganâs head and brushing the hair from her face.
âOkay.â
âThere you go. Are you thinking about lunch? Wand a handful of crickets?â
âNo,â she laughed.
âThatâs what you want.â Tony held up the helmet. âHow did you find this?â
âGarage.â
âReally? Were you looking for it?â
âNo. I found it, though.â
âYou like going to the garage, huh?â Morgan nodded as Tony lifted her up and set her on his hip. âSo does daddy. Itâs fine actually. Mom never wears anything I buy her.â
As they made their way to the house, a black car pulled up and parked in the driveway. Steve, Natasha, and Scott Lang stepped out as Y/N came out of the house to see what was holding Tony and Morgan up. They all were looking at Tony, who was avoiding Steveâs gaze and gave a slight nod to Natasha.
âUncle Steve!â Morgan exclaimed, trying to wiggle out of her fatherâs arms. âAuntie Nat!â
Tony failed to keep her there, and let her run to welcome the guests. Y/N and Tony shared a look. They knew that, since Scott was with them, this wasnât just a friendly visit. Y/N walked down the porch, to where Morgan was chatting Steveâs ear off in his arms.
âHey, Mo,â Y/N called to her daughter. âWhy donât we go inside and make drinks for everyone? Then you can talk your uncleâs ear off.â
âOkay,â she sighed, turning to reach Y/N. Y/N took her from Steve.
âPlease donât ask anything stupid of him,â Y/N whispered to Steve. âHeâsâweâre finally happy.â
Steve didnât bother to answer, which Y/N huffed about before heading into the house with Morgan. Tony, Steve, Nat, and Scott gathered on the porch as Morgan and Y/N made drinks inside. Scott was explaining something when Y/N brought a tray of drinks out to Tony. She wished she could hear what they were talking about, but she needed to stay in with Morgan. Y/N watched from the window as she fed Morgan.
âNow, we know what it sounds likeââ Scott said, finishing his story.
âTony, after everything youâve seen, is anything really impossible?â Steve interrupted.
âQuantum fluctuation messes with the Planck Scale, which then triggers the Deutsch Proposition. Can we agree on that?â Tony asked, handing out drinks.Â
âThank you.â
âIn Layman's terms, it means you're not coming home.â
âI did,â Scott said.
âNo, you accidentally survived. It's a billion to one cosmic fluke. And now you wanna pull off a... What do you call it?â
âA time heist?â
âYeah, a time heist. Of course, why didn't we think of this before? Oh, because it's laughable? Because it's a pipedream?â
âThe Stones are in the past. We can go back and get them.â
âWe can snap our own fingers,â Natasha stated. âWe can bring everyone back.â
âOr screw it up worse than he already has, right?â Tony responded.
âI donât believe we would,â Steve said.
âGotta say, sometimes I miss that giddy optimism. However, high hopes won't help if there's no logical, tangible way for me to safely execute said time heist. I believe the most likely outcome would be our collective demise.â Tony sat down.
âNot if we strictly follow the rules of time travel,â Scott replied. âThat means no talking to our past selves, no betting on sporting eventsââ
Tony held a hand out. âIâm gonna stop you right there, Scott. Are you seriously telling me that your plan to save the universe is based on Back To The Future?â
âNo.â
âGood. You had me worried there. 'Cause that'd be horse shit. That's not how quantum physics works.â
âTonyâŠâ Natasha called. âWe have to take a stand.â
âWe did stand. And yet, here we are.â
âI know you got a lot on the line. You got a wife, a daughter. But I lost someone very important to me. A lot of people did,â Scott was pleading.Â
Y/N could see that Tony was getting overwhelmed and she quickly told her daughter to go and save him.Â
âAnd now, now we have a chance to bring her back,â Scott continued. âTo bring everyone back. And you're telling me that won't evenââ
âThatâs right, Scott, I wonât even. I got a kid.â
Morgan ran up to Tony, who quickly set her in his lap. âMommy told me to come and save you,â she said.
âGood job. Iâm saved.â Tony stood up, facing his friends. "I wish you'd come here to ask me something else. Anything else. Honestly, I... I missed you guys, it was... Oh, and table's set for six.â
âTony, I get it. And I'm happy for you and Y/N, I really am. But this is a second chance.â
âI got my second chance right here, Cap. I can't roll the dice again. If you don't talk shop, you can stay for lunch.â He headed inside.
âTalk to Y/N about it. Think it over.â
âNo need. We canât risk this.â
Tony entered the house, holding Morgan close. He went straight into the kitchen to get washed up for lunch. Y/N watched as their three visitors walked back to Steveâs car. Steve looked back at the house, making eye contact with Y/N through the window.
~~~
Tony was quieter than usual the rest of the day. This worried Y/N, but she couldnât let it get to her. She needed to take care of Morgan. They made dinner together and Tony and Morgan chatted loudly over dinner. He even offered to do the dishes while Y/N tucked in Morgan.Â
As Tony finished the last of the dishes, he lost hold of the hose, causing water to spray everywhere. Including the small shelves beside the sink that held a photo of Howard and a photo of Tony and Peter. Seeing the photo of Peter slightly wet, Tony grabbed it to dry it off. Looking down he say Peterâs face. He missed that kid so much. He looked up, with a determination he hadnât felt in a while.
When Y/N came down from tucking in Morgan, Tony was at a table. He was talking to FRIDAY and playing around with a hologram. She knew very well to leave him alone when he was like this, so she grabbed her book and curled up on the couch.
Tony was still going strong about an hour and a half later:
"Look at a mod inspiration, let me see what check out,â he told FRIDAY. âSo, recommend one last sim before we pack it in for the night. This time, in the shape of a mobius strip, inverted, please.â
âProcessing,â FRIDAY responded.
âGive me that eigenvalue. That, particle factoring, and a spectral decomp. That will take a second.â He stuffed some food in his mouth.
âJust a moment.â
âAnd donât worry if it doesnât pan out. Iâm just kindaââ
âModel rendered.â
Tony fell back into a chair, in complete shock and amazement. âShit!â
âShit,â Morgan giggled.
Tony turned around to see Morgan sitting on the stairs behind him, large smile on her face.
âSshhh,â Tony shushed, finger over his mouth. âWhat are you doing up, little miss?â He whispered.
âShit,â she repeated.
âNo, we don't say that. Only Mommy says that word. She coined it, it belongs to her.â
âWhy you up?â
â'Cause I got some important shit going on here.â Morgan raised a brow at her father, not impressed. âWhat do you think? No, I got something on my mind. I got something on my mind.â
âWas it Juice Pops?â
âSure was. Thatâs extortion.â He stood up and took his daughterâs hand. âGreat minds think alike. Juice Pops, exactly was onâŠâ Tony looked back at the model before heading to the kitchen with Morgan, ââŠmy mind.â
~~~
âYou done?â Tony asked with a smile on his face. Morgan was lying in her bed, finishing a Juice Pop. âYeah, now you are.â He took the popsicle stick before wiping Morgans lips with his sleeve and pushing her head onto her pillow. âThat face goes there.â
âTell me a story,â Morgan said.
âA story⊠Once upon a time, Maguna went to bed. The end.â
âThatâs a horrible story,â Morgan giggled.
âCome on, that's your favorite story. I love you tons.â He kissed Morgan on the forehead as he stood up.
âI love you 3000.â
Tony grinned, âwow,â he mouthed, putting the popsicle stick in his mouth. He turned off her lamp and headed to the door. â3000. Thatâs crazy. Go to bed. Or Iâll see all your toys. Night, night.â
Tony shut the door and heading to the living room. Y/N was still curled up reading.
âNot that it's a competition, but she loves me 3000,â Tony stated as he came up to the side of the couch.Â
âOh does she now?â Y/N questioned.
âYou were somewhere on the low 6 to 900 range.â Y/N scoffed as Tony chewed on the stick and looked at the fireplace. âWhat are you reading?â
âOh, it's just a book on composting,â she responded.
âWhat's new with composting?â
âJustââ
âI figured it out, by the way.â
Y/N looked up at Tony. âYou know, just so we're talking about the same thingââ
âTime travel.â
âWhat? Wow⊠I⊠Thatâs amazing, and⊠terrifying.â
âThatâs right.â Tony sat down on the other end of the couch.
Y/N reached over and squeezed Tonyâs shoulder. âWe got really lucky.â
âYeah, I know.â
âA lot of people didnât.â
âNo, I can't help everybody.â
âIt sort a seems like you can.â
âNot if I stop. I can put a pin in it right now, and stop.â
âTony⊠getting each other to stop has been one of the few failures of our lives.â
He smiled lightly at her. âI sometimes feel I should put it in a locked box and drop it at the bottom of a lake... go to bed.â
âBut would you be able to rest? Cause I sure as hell wonât be able to⊠Iâll stand by your side no matter you choose.â
âYou already know what Iâll choose though, donât you? Cause youâve seen in.â
âI havenât seen it⊠but I know that last fight isnât the last.â
âI just⊠I canât lose you and Morgan.â
âYou wonât.â Y/N grabbed Tonyâs hand. âWeâre going to do this. TogetherâŠâ She leaned in and kissed him softly. âYour lips taste like Juice Pops,â she giggled against his lips.
âIs that a bad thing?â
âNot at all.âÂ
She shook her head before kissing him again, this time more heated. Tony pulled her onto his lap.
âWhat would you say to grabbing some Juice Pops and taking this upstairs?â Y/N panted slightly.
âI wouldnât be opposed.â He placed on last kiss on Y/Nâs lips before standing them both up. âIâll grab the pops, meet you up stairs.â
âWe have to be quiet though. Last time Morgan almost walked in on us.â
âOh, donât worry. FRIDAY wonât let that happen again.â
Electricity Chapter 1
Summary: For the first time in her life, Melody Williams is moving out of her hometown to Minnesota where she got a job as a crime journalist for the Minnesota Daily. But this city does not only have a new job for her to offer. What will happen when she crosses paths with detective Walter Marshall? Heads up, a little electricity is involved âš
Walter Marshall x Melody Williams (curvy OFC)
Warnings: none
Wordcount: 2.5k
A/N: So, I wrote something for the first time đ Pls be kind haha. This is written with a plus size/curvy OFC in mind because all my curvy babes, like me, deserve some love đÂ
âThanks for calling me. I will call you back with my decision soon.â I hung up the phone and stared at it in my hand. A woman from the newspaper in the city a few towns over had just called, telling me they were offering me a job at their crime department. I sat at my desk at my current job, a local journalist for my hometown newspaper. I started working there during college and they offered a job after I finished. I happily accepted, because that meant I could move out of my lovely parentsâ house and start my own life.
As I sat at my desk I realized I had never really left this town, and I had always fantasized what it would be like to live and work in a different town. I loved my hometown, donât get me wrong, but it is small and everyone knows each other. Every day is basically the same here. Miss Johnson walks her dog at exact 3pm, the Millers go to the supermarket at 4pm to buy dinner and the whole town eats at Alâs diner every Sunday.
Also, the men in this town arenât something to write home about. The decent men are taken by the perfect housewives and the ones who are left, are the type of guys who you donât want to meet in a dark alley. And unfortunately, no nice men have decided to move here in the last couple of years. The only guy I dated (we were only together for a couple of months) decided I wasnât good enough and eloped with a pretty, skinny blonde bitch.
While the town doesnât seem to change, neither does my job. I have been covering the local news for a couple of years now, and it feels like I have been doing the same thing over and over again. Nothing really happens here, and honestly it makes me feel stuck at my job. I feel like my job and this place arenât helping me to move further. I want to learn more and see something else than this town.
Still staring at the phone in my hand realization washed over me. This was my way out. This phone call could change everything. Not thinking twice, I called the woman (I had forgotten her name, Stacy apparently) back telling her I was accepting their offer. This was my chance of starting something new.
In the weeks after the call, I quit my job and started looking for a new place. Luckily, I found a cosy, affordable apartment. Not too big, not too small. Perfect for me and only me. Not wanting to wait, I moved in quickly with the help of my parents and made the place feel a little like home.
It was a cute apartment with one bedroom and a tiny kitchen. I had everything I needed. A comfy couch, my kettle, my books, a tv for my binge-watching nights and lots of cosy blankets and throw pillows.
After moving in and settling down, I finally had a chance to decorate the place with a lot of fairy lights and plants. I stood in the middle of the living area, wiping some sweat of my face after moving around some heavy plants. Yeah, this is starting to look like home. I thought as I looked around the living area, satisfied with the work I did.
I sat down on my couch and looked at the clock on the wall. It was 8pm. I was tired and hadnât eaten yet. Tomorrow was my first day at the Minnesota Daily and I couldnât wait. I was a little nervous, but because I was so tired, I didnât have the energy to be too nervous or to make dinner.
I decided to make a grilled cheese sandwich and go to bed early. Tomorrow was the first day of a new start and I needed to look good. Might need a full 12 hours of sleep if I want to look a little decent, I thought to myself as I stared into the mirror and noticed my messy hair and the bags under my eyes.
After I ate my âdinnerâ (I decided two grilled cheese sandwiches counted as dinner), I went to my bedroom and picked an outfit for tomorrow. A simple jeans and a baby blue blouse would do it. Afterwards I brushed my teeth and removed my make up. I put on my pyjamas and fell asleep as soon as my head hit my pillow.
After parking my car in the parking garage underneath the building the Minnesota Daily is located, I checked my make up one last time in the rear-view mirror. No uneven eyebrows and no smudges of mascara. Letâs go make a good first impression.
I stepped out of the car and grabbed my purse. I walked out of the parking garage and made my way to the front desk where I was greeted by a friendly older looking receptionist.
âHi, Iâm Melody! It is my first day here and I was told to ask for Stacy,â I said.
âWelcome dear! Iâll let Stacy know youâre here! Sheâll be here in a sec,â she said with a smile. I nodded and looked around. People were walking in and out of the building, most of them talking on the phone. They all looked like they were in a rush.
Stacy appeared within a minute. She was taller than me, and Iâm not exactly tiny, and her long brown hair was tied up in a bun. She walked towards me with her hand reached out and I quickly took it.
âHi, you must be Melody! Iâm Stacy, but everyone calls me Stace. Come, follow me, Iâll show you where we will be working!â she said while we walked to the elevator. While the elevator brought us to the 8th floor, she asked me how my new apartment was and if I liked the city. Before I knew it, the elevator reached the 8th floor.
âEveryone, pay attention! This is Melody and she will be joining our department as you all know,â Stacy practically yelled the second we left the elevator. I already saw some friendly faces looking at me. âHi, I am Melody, but please call me Mel,â I said while Stacy walked over to a desk and started to introduce me to my new co-workers.
After I met everyone from the crime department, I made my way towards my new desk. Everyone seemed friendly and there was a relaxed atmosphere. Which was a little surprising to me considering this was the crime department. I looked around and thought: yeah, I made the right call to accept this offer.
Yet, I had no idea what this town had to offer me. Or better said, who.
In the first week I worked there I became friends with some of my co-workers. Carmen Garcia practically forced me to go to lunch with her and Gia Park on my first day. They had both been working at the Minnesota Daily for a couple of years now and they were one of the few women in the department. So, they were glad I was recruited to give them another ally in the office.
While we had lunch, they informed me about everything I needed to know. âYou seriously need to stay away from creepy Greg, he works for the finance section. Make sure you never go down there alone. He always looks at women like he wants to drag them into an empty alley,â Gia said while pretending to throw up.
âOh, he is the worst! But Megan, the receptionist, is the best ever. She is so sweet and kind. If you ever need anything, just ask her and she will help you,â Carmen added.
âDefinitely! And if you ever need free tickets for a sports game, just let me know and we will visit the guys from the sport section,â Gia told me with a wink.
âI will keep all of this in mind,â I said while taking a sip from my cappuccino. âbut tell me something about yourselves!â
Next thing I knew Carmen and Gia told me where they grew up, where they went to school and how they ended up working for the Minnesota Daily. I noticed how easy it was to talk to these girls and we had a good laugh while they told me about their most recent dating disasters. I nearly spilled my cappuccino not once or twice, but thrice while Carmen told me about how she escaped from one of her dates through the bathroom window.
During my first week I spend a lot of time with them. I helped them finish their articles and I got to know them pretty well. Carmen is tough, but sweet and straightforward, while Gia is soft and has a very short span of attention while working. She has visited my desk every half hour just to âcatch upâ. But I didnât complain. It was nice to have them as my co-workers, although they began to feel more like friends.
It felt like my life fell into place again. I was making new friends, and I did a pretty good job so far. Â Still, sometimes I forgot to do basis tasks like getting groceries. So now I was parking my car in the parking lot of the grocery store.
As soon as I stepped out, I felt the cold chilly air around me, making me pull my leather jacket closer around my body. Hastily I stepped through the doors of the store just a few minutes before they would close. Quickly I grabbed a basket, knowing I should grab a cart, and started to walk through the aisles.
It was quiet inside, just a few people were doing some last-minute shopping like me. I waved hello to the woman at the cash register as I made my way to the first aisle.
So just the basics, some bread, apples, veggies, chocolate. Hmm maybe no chocolate. Okay yes, some chocolate. I deserve it today. What else, milk and cereal obviously. Girl gotta eat some breakfast. I thought as I threw some products in my already way too full basket and made my way to the cereal aisle. I walked passed the apples and picked some up, holding them in my hands.
Walking through the aisle I stopped in front of the many boxes of cereal. Above me I noticed a flickering lightbulb, reminding me I still needed to watch the last episode of Stranger Things. Maybe I should watch it tonight.
Staring at all the different kinds of cereal, I couldnât decide which one I wanted. After a minute of just staring at the boxes lost in my own world, I grabbed one.
Except, I suddenly wasnât the only one. Quickly I turned around and bumped into a warm, broad chest which made me drop the apples I was carrying. âOh shit,â I whispered before I looked up into the most beautiful blue eyes I had ever seen and stared at the man. He had a beard and dark, brown curls. One of the curls dangled in front of his eyes and I had to fight the urge to not wipe it out of his face.
âIt didnât look like you were going to make a decision soon, so I just grabbed the one I wanted,â he said while crouching down to pick up the fallen apples.
âOh no, no itâs fine,â I stammered, completely overwhelmed by him. âI guess I was zoned out there for a moment.â
While he was picking up the apples, I decided to take a quick look at him. He was a tall, big man wearing a dark blue sweater. Damn it, he is gorgeous. Donât mind bumping into him more often.. no donât go there, pull yourself together! I thought as I felt my cheeks burning all of a sudden. I couldnât even remember the last time I talked to a man this handsome. Get it together Mel.
As he stood up and handed me the apples, I noticed how tired he looked. There were dark circles underneath his eyes, making me wonder when it was the last time he had a decent amount of sleep. Or if he ever had a decent night of sleep.
âThank you for picking these up,â I said while holding up the apples, making them almost fall again. His reflexes were fast as he grabbed my elbow, helping me keep the apples balanced. The warmth of his hand made my legs suddenly feel a little weak.
âNo problem,â he chuckled tiredly making me smile a little. âMaybe you should have gotten a cart instead of a basket, might be easier,â he said while still holding onto my elbow. He pointed with his other hand to my basket that was way too full. Â
âYou are probably right, but my stubborn ass thought I could carry it all, so here we are,â I answered with a timed laugh, feeling a little embarrassed. He looked at me with those blue eyes and I noticed he had a âdonât mess with meâ vibe, that somehow made me feel safe.
As I looked at his hand on my elbow, I suddenly became aware of how close he was. I could smell his musky cologne. He noticed I looked at his hand, and he abruptly let go of me while taking a step back. I immediately missed the warmth of his hand.
âI, uh, I need to go. Take care and donât drop those again,â he told me with a small smile pointing at the apples in my hands. He grabbed his own basket and started to walk away. As he walked away, I took a good look of him. He was a very muscular man, and I took a mental picture of his ass because that was a sight I did not want to forget. I must tell Carmen and Gia about this.
âI canât promise that, but I will try my hardest,â I laughed, knowing I would probably drop them again soon. âSee you around?â I asked him. Surprised by my own boldness I nearly sank through the floor out of embarrassment.
He looked back at me with those beautiful blue eyes and I felt a spark of electricity going through my spine. âI hope so,â he said with a smirk before he shook his head and turned the corner leaving me speechless in the cereal aisle.
I stood there for another minute while coming back to my senses. My cheeks stopped burning and I realized I had not embarrassed myself that much. I smiled to myself and pictured the smirk he gave me in my head. Then the announcement that the store was about to close in a few minutes blared through the speakers, reminding me I still had to collect some groceries.
Quickly I grabbed the rest of the groceries and headed towards the cash register hoping to see him one more time. Unfortunately, he was nowhere to be found.
I paid for the groceries and walked to my car. Loading the groceries in the trunk I nearly dropped the apples again. Told you, I thought while closing the trunk. It was getting dark and colder outside so I wasted no more time and drove home.
While driving home I realized the mistake I made.
Damn, I shouldâve asked his name.
Weâre on mobile again lads, too tired to commit to getting my laptop out. Shoutout to the anon that taught me how to do the readmore thing on mobile ty.
Anyways, Bakugou and Kirishima being professional Creeps
(Warnings - dead dove, do not eat. NSFW, graphic rape. Disassociation. Vomit mention (no actual vomit), one weird, incesty comment made by Bakugou)
Youâre walking down the street, groceries in hand. Itâs dark out, but you arenât worried. Youâve taken this way home so many times before that you could walk it with your eyes closed, today you had just gotten sidetracked by a cute dog while getting your groceries, so it was a bit later than you were used to. But you had your mace in your pocket, your phone in your hand - youâd be able to call for help if something were to happen
Youâre pumped to get home - you had bought a new flavor of your favorite brand of ice cream. Something new and exciting, you were going to put on a movie, sit on the couch, and do a little taste test.
Youâre passing a side street, the one with the tiny sand which shop on the corner, where you sometimes stop for lunch. Maybe youâll go there tomorrow, itâs been a while since youâve had a hefty sandwich.
Where they came from, you donât know. But one moment your walking along, minding your business, and the next moment your being dragged to the side, a hand over your mouth, muffling your yell of suprise.
There isnât even time to scream. You hear a car door open, and then youâre being manhandled up and into the back of a van. At least, you think itâs a van.
Hands are all over your body, holding you down, pressing over your mouth, wrenching your arms behind your back, shoving your face into the floor of the van. Far too many hands for one person.
âRope? Give it here.â A rough voice sounds behind you, and everythingâs happening so fast, youâre not even sure whatâs happening.
Someoneâs looping rope around your arms, tying knots, tightening them until yours arms ache at the uncomfortable stretch, and the rope is biting painfully into your skin.
You struggle briefly, trying to push your head up, shake free of the hand over your mouth, tell them to wait, to stop.
The man behind you is hauling you into his lap, kicking your legs apart and keeping them spread with his own. He has a hand over your mouth - heâs the same one who grabbed you - and his other hand is kneading at your breast. He punches it through your shirt, and you shriek.
âStay still, donât wanna cut you sweetie.â Thereâs a flash of something sharp being waved around in the darkness. Itâs so dark inside the van, you can hardly see. Thereâs a man in front of you.
Two men, one behind, one in front.
The man before you is stocky, big - you can feel his size as he moves between your spread legs, as his hands grab at your clothes.
You hear the snip of scissors, everythingâs moving too fast, you canât think, you canât breathe.
One moment youâre safe, the next moment you arenât.
Clothes are being cut off, it feels weird being bare like this, and itâs wrong, and you grab onto that thought. As soon as the scissors stop moving, you thrash in the first manâs hold, but a quick slap to your naked thigh has you spooking like a rabbit, going deathly still.
Thereâs fight, flight, or freeze.
âEi, grab the vibe.â The first voice, the rough one, grumbles from behind you.
The large man in front of you, Ei, leans to the side, still wedges between your thighs. He roots around for a second, before straightening, holding something.
Thereâs a click, then a buzzing sound, and then youâre crying.
Heâs holding a vibrator against your cunt, rubbing it up towards your clit, and it feels good but itâs so sudden.
Itâs overwhelming, and you donât know how you ended up like this.
You arch, a whine bubbling out of your throat, muffled by the calloused hand clamped tight against your mouth. It hurts, but it feels good, but itâs too much.
The man, Ei keeps moving it, following your body no matter how you try to shrink away, wiggle to the side, try to buck his hand off. Thereâs no escape.
You donât know how long it takes you to cum. Have you been in the van long?
âHah, I think the little whore liked that.â The man behind you taunts as Ei turns the vibratory off, tossing it to the side. Youâre boneless in the rough manâs arms, exhausted by your orgasm.
Still, thereâs so much adrenaline and fear coursing through your body that you feel keyed up. But the fear is muted, soft, unreachable. Thereâs only whatâs happening, and you canât do anything about it.
Everything feels so weird.
âKat, here.â Youâre being handed over to the soft man, Ei, and the man behind you, Kat, shuffles around.
âHer mouth looks so fucking soft... canât wait.â You can hear Katâs grin as youâre laid flat on your back, arms trapped painfully behind you.
You try to say something, but your throatâs dry, and your head feels fuzzy, and maybe this is just some twisted, sick dream.
Your upper half is wrenched to the side, shoulders pulled onto Katâs lap. Something soft and fleshy taps your face, and you cringe away.
âBite me, and Iâll end your shit.â
âKats, chill.â
âAwh, shut up softie. I know youâre fucking aching to get inside her little cunt. Look at how hard you are, damn Ei.â
Kat snickers, and you finally make the connection that the velvet tapping roughly against your lips is a cock.
âThe plush ones always make you cum in like, two fucking seconds. Itâs cause youâre a mommas boy, ainât it?â
The man easing your thighs open shrugs. âGuess so.â
âYour mom was fucking hot though, makes sense.â
Ei huffs out a laugh, and you feel pressure ashe eases into your cunt. But you canât focus on that, not when Kat is growling at you to open up.
You get the feeling that if you donât open your mouth, something bad will happen.
You open your mouth.
The next few minutes, you donât even really know whatâs happening. Eiâs fucking your pussy, hands gripping your waist as he uses you like a living fleshlight. Kat is thrusting into your mouth, groaning and hissing when your throat closes up around him.
You feel like you might throw up.
Ei keeping groping your flesh, slapping at your tits, pinching and stroking and his hands feel so gross. Your skin is tingling, but yet it somehow feels numb. Kat keeps slapping your face around, and youâre choking on his cock, and this all feels too weird to actually be happening.
You canât stop thinking about your ice cream. Had you dropped the groceries when Kat grabbed you? Hopefully the ice cream hadnât opened up.
It feels like they take forever, but at the same time, you donât think any time has really passed. You were outside carrying groceries just a few seconds ago.
Then Kat is pulling out of your mouth, shoving you fully onto your back so he can jack off onto your tits. You donât feel his cum splatter across your chest, but you feel the wetness as he rubs it into your skin, chuckling darkly.
Ei is still going, and it hurts. Heâs big - if you werenât loose from the orgasm pulled out of you by the vibe, you think he probably wouldâve torn you open.
He pulls out, and then thereâs warmth striping over your stomach, and Katâs rubbing that in too.
Both men are a little breathless, and so are you, but you think you actually might be hyperventilating.
âWhereâs the wipes?â
A package thumps next to your head, and Kat grabs it, muttering our a âthanksâ to his partner-in-crime.
Cool, wet baby wipes swipe over your skin, cleaning up the mess. Your arms are still tied behind your back.
âKat, whereâre the clothes?â
âUnderneath the passenger seat, where I always put the damn clothes.â
Thereâs shuffling, and then the sound of a ziplock bag being undone.
A baby wipe swipes over your pussy, scrubbing. Youâre sensitive, and when two fingers enter you, stuffing a wipe against your walls, you whimper.
âStop being so rough, you arenât an animal.â
âShut the hell up, Iâm the one making sure we donât get fuckinâ caught.â
The fingers pull out of your entrance though, taking the wipe with them.
Youâre being sat up, a shirt roughly yanked over your head. Itâs soft, smells like detergent. Eiâs lifting your legs, tugging sweatpants onto your body. Theyâre too big, but theyâre comfy.
You realize you still have your shoes on.
âAll done, letâs get her out.â
âWait-â Kat says, and thenyour jaw is being wrenched open, and a hand is shoving a baby wipe into your mouth. You retch, pushing at Katâs wrist, but the man is stronger than you, holds you still while he rubs at your mouth.
âKat, sheâs gonna throw up.â
âNah, sheâs fine. Besides, even if she does, all the better right? No swabâll be able to find anything after she blows chunks.â
Ei sighs.
Finally, the hand pulls away, and you cough, doubling over as you splutter. The taste lingers, and you want to throw up.
âAll done. Letâs go.â
A hand pats your cheek âBye bitch, it was fun.â Kat laughs, before climbing towards the front of the van.
Ei pushes you towards the back doors, opens them, helps you get your feet under you.
He doesnât say anything as he pushes you towards your forgotten grocery bags, your dropped phone.
His hands leave your back, and you hear him shut the van doors, hear him walk around to the drivers side.
