i dont really like the tails is secretly a kitsune theories either i think he should just be a normal fox who has two tails for no special reason
#i think my not liking that theory about tails mostly comes from personal bias though#because tails' whole deal of ''something about my body is different from everyone elses and the other kids are mean to me over it''#makes me see my younger self in him as a disabled person#maybe its debatable whether having two tails would count as a disability or not but tails is disabled To Me#and trying to come up with a magical explanation for why he has two tails#instead of just letting him have two tails for no particular reason feels like its taking away from that a bit idk#im not saying youre a bad person if you believe that theory or that youre not allowed to make him a kitsune in your au or whatever btw#i know most people probably wouldnt see it this way#thats just my reason for not caring for it and not wanting it to ever be made canon#but also i just think its funny that some sonic characters are actually special because theyre princesses or ultimate lifeforms#and some are just powerful for no reason#we need some people to stay in the powerful for no reason category i vote sonic and tails stay in there#sonic and tails are brothers who are just some guys

Chapter 3
Lucy spent some time just crying and trying to calm herself down, cradling the golden key close to her chest.
"Why don't you go downstairs, find Mira, and she can give your guild mark, we can handle the rest of the paperwork at a later time. I think these past few days have been taxing for you." The Master spoke after a few minutes, once her crying subsided.
Lucy nodded offering the man a small strained smile, standing up she made her way to the door before stopping with her hand on the handle and turned around to face the man once more.
"I would appreciate it if my past and last name stayed between us, I'm not ready for anyone to know."
Lucy said a little apprehensive and the old man gave her a firm nod, waving his hand dismissively in the air.
"No need to worry my dear, we don't pry here at Fairy Tail. When and if you are ready to talk about your past, know that we're here for you."
Giving the old man a more genuine smile she thanked him and left the office. Closing the door behind her, Lucy paused for a moment and rested her back on the door.
Taking a few deep breaths to center herself, still reeling from her newfound memories.
Memories of her mother, and the spirits they both loved.
Lucy knew her father was a cruel man, but she never thought he'd be able to surprise her with his behavior.
This should be a lesson not to underestimate him, not that she did in the first place, but this is a whole new ballpark.
'To think he's known about magic this whole time.'
A loud crash echoed through the guild, pulling her from her thoughts.
Focusing her attention, Lucy could hear the bustle of a crowd coming from downstairs, indicating that she was in the office with the Master for a while.
Shoulders back and head held high Lucy made her way back down the stairs.
She couldn't see Wendy, but she did spot Levy sitting at a different table than this morning, she was explaining something to the two men who were sitting at her side, looking thoroughly confused.
One had an orange ponytail and was wearing a purple shirt, that in Lucy's opinion clashed with his hair.
The other was a black-haired man, with one piece of his hair sticking out and curling above his head.
Lucy smiled and waved at Levy as she passed her table, the blue-haired girl smiled at her before going back to her explanation.
Nearing the bar, Lucy could see that the girl that was drinking this morning was now surrounded by two empty barrels, and was currently drinking her third.
'Is she even human?' Lucy thought in disbelief.
Looking around, she could see people scattered along the tables of the guild.
Most were drinking, eating, and talking amongst themselves, having fun, and enjoying each other's company.
While others seemed to be brawling in the back corner of the building, there was a mass of limbs and bodies entwined, magic flashing as blows were exchanged.
There was a raised platform of sorts on the right side, with what looked like a bulletin board, papers pinned to it with a few people gathered around.
She spotted Mirajane behind the bar and went straight to her.
"Hello Mirajane" Lucy greeted the girl, sitting on one of the barstools.
"Oh, Hello Lucy. Call me Mira, please, everyone does. Now tell me did your talk with the master go well? Are you hungry? I can have Lis cook you something if you are." The girl asked Lucy, fretting over the girl.
Lucy was stunned for a moment. Not used to people caring about her and not being employed to do so. She looked at the girl in front of her and gave her a small, almost shy smile.
"The talk went well, thank you for asking. He actually sent me down here to find you so you can give me my guild mark."
Lucy told her, and the smile on Mira's face widened, clapping her hands together in joy the white-haired woman jumped at Lucy's words.
"Oh that's wonderful, I was hoping he would ask you to join. Let me just get the stamp." And before Lucy could say anything Mira was off.
Left to her own devices, Lucy started thinking about what she was supposed to do now that she agreed to join Fairy Tail and learn more about her magic.
Where was she supposed to live? She should go and look for a job, despite her bad luck a couple of days back, she's sure she can find something to at least pay for a down payment for an apartment.
She just hoped she wouldn't need to use her emergency savings.
"Hi, you must be Lucy." A soft voice brought her out of her thoughts, looking up Lucy saw the short-haired girl that was helping Mira behind the bar this morning.
She was looking at Lucy with a smile on her face, and as they made eye contact she continued talking.
"I'm Lisanna, Mira's younger sister. It's nice to meet you" She held out her hand for Lucy to shake.
Taking her hand Lucy smiled back at the girl. "Yes, hi. It's nice to meet you as well. You and Mira look alike."
Lisanna waved off her statement "It's just the hair, our brother Elfman has white hair too, it's a Strauss thing." She said with a shrug and pointed out the tall, muscular white-haired man that was laughing at something happening across the bar.
When she got a better look, Lucy realized it was the same man that Natsu hit with the chair last night.
"Oh yeah, I can see that. It's actually kind of cool, like, I've never seen so many unique hair colours that are natural before." Lucy answered looking back at Lisanna.
"You'll come to see that's a staple of our world. Not all, but a good majority have unique hair colours. I could say you fit in the category as well. I've never seen hair that looks so much like gold before, it's really beautiful." Mira's voice joined the conversation as she walked behind the bar, setting down a large stamp.
Lucy blushed a little at her compliment.
"Thank you." She muttered, feeling shy all of a sudden.
"Oh isn't she just the cutest?" Mira asked Lisanna when she noticed her blush, making Lucy even more red in the face.
"She sure is sis. I'll leave you to it then, I just wanted to say hello, need to get back to the kitchen and finish up some orders. Bye Lucy, welcome to Fairy Tail!" Lisanna said with a giggle, and Lucy waved at the girl as she walked away.
"I have the stamp, now, tell me where would you like your guild mark to be, and what colour?" Mira asked, holding the stamp up, and raising a brow at her.
Lucy looked back at Mira and thought about what colour she would want permanently on her body, and was about to ask the girl if she could change it once it was on if she didn't like it when she heard a loud crash and a familiar voice yell.
"Ya're gonna pay for that ya ice prick."
Turning her head, she spotted him easily.
He was in the back where she earlier saw people fighting, he had flames wrapping around his whole body and was charging at a man with midnight black hair, who seemed to be only his boxers for some reason.
Turning back to look at Mira she was about to ask what the hell that was about.
"Don't worry about them, they fight like that all the time, it's harmless. They're just lucky Erza is out on a job or she would have their heads." Mira told her and Lucy nodded her head.
"It's good to know they won't bring down the building, but I was actually going to ask about the guy in his boxers?" Lucy said making Mira laugh.
"Well, that's debatable. " The other girl muttered to herself "And as for the 'stripper' as Natsu so eloquently calls him, that is Gray.
He uses Ice Magic, he claims that the person who taught him magic made him strip every day to his boxers so he could learn to endure the cold, and the habit stuck." She shrugged her shoulders and then added as if an afterthought.
"If he ever starts stripping near you, do not hesitate to hit him." Mira told her with a devilish smile.
"Huh, I don't know whether that makes sense or not." Lucy replied honestly, looking over her shoulder at the two brawling men.
She could see fire and ice mixing in a blur of attacks and could feel heat followed by gusts of cold when they exchanged blows.
Then she saw a flash of pink in all the chaos.
Lucy looked down in her lap, and traced the back of her left hand, looking back up at Mira she held out the hand to her with a smile.
"Could you make it pink?" She tried to be nonchalant, but Mirajane just gave her a knowing look before nodding her head.
She took Lucy's offered hand and pressed the stamp to the back of it.
There was a slight tingle when the stamp made contact with her skin, it was a different sensation to her own magic, but it made her feel safe, protected, even.
Mira applied pressure for a few seconds before lifting it to reveal a pink fairy with a tail on the back of Lucy's hand.
"I love it!" Lucy said, turning her hand for Mira to see. "It suits you." The older girl answered with a smile.
Lucy was about to ask Mira if she knew where she could find an apartment or any kind of job when a warm arm draped over her shoulder, making her jump slightly.
"Luce, why didn'tya tell me you were done talking to the old man!" Natsu interrupted her inquiry as he appeared next to her.
She relaxed knowing it was Natsu and answered. "I didn't even see you when I got down here, you said you'd wait for me at the bar, so I came to the bar." She shrugged her shoulders, not knowing what to think of the current contact between them.
She didn't mind, Natsu was warm and his presence somehow had an almost calming effect on Lucy.
It's just the way she was raised. It was not 'proper'. But Lucy never cared much for proper, to begin with.
It had been installed in her since she was little, and she ran away so she could just be normal, just be Lucy.
That's what she was to Natsu, so she let him keep his arm over her shoulder. The pink-haired man looked at her with a bashful smile, hand rubbing his neck in a sign of embarrassment.
"Ya took too long and I started to get bored after Mira told me I couldn't eat anymore or there won't be food left for everyone else, so I went to pick a fight with the stripper." He said with a small shrug making Lucy giggle.
He was ridiculous.
"I'm sure it was hard to wait so long." Lucy teased poking his side with her finger. "Sorry, I kept you waiting."
He shrugged it off, turning to Mira, who was mixing a drink for someone as she pretended not to listen in on their conversation.
"Hey Mira, can ya get me some fire whiskey when you can?" The white-haired girl gave him a nod.
He sat down at the bar next to Lucy.
"By the way, look-" Lucy held up the back of her left hand to show him her new guild mark a wide smile on her face "I'm a part of Fairy Tail!"
Natsu looked at her hand, then back at her, and let out a small scoff.
"Of course, you're a part of Fairy Tail, why'd ya think I brought ya here?" He said as if it were obvious, making Lucy feel warm on the inside.
"Where is here, by the way? I have a storage room with all my belongings that I have to clean out by Friday, what day is it anyway?"
Lucy asked she arrived in Hargeon on Sunday morning, and she was not sure how much time she spent unconscious after her attack.
"It's Tuesday ya weirdo. And we're in Magnolia. That's where Fairy Tail is!" Natsu told her and Lucy gaped at him, mouth slightly open.
"Gods I lost two days, and how are we in Magnolia?"
"Well, when I kicked that thing's ass and saw ya bleedin' out I called Mira for a portal and brought ya here." He shrugged casually.
Lucy felt a headache coming, she was reeling from all the information she had received in the past two days, getting ten hears of locked memories back and now she finds out portals are apparently, a thing.
Because why wouldn't they be in a world where a man can light himself on fire? How is that any less weird?
"And don't call me a weirdo!" She said suddenly, hitting him on the back of his head as she remembered that he's called her that twice now.
Natsu rubbed the back of his head, turning to look at her with a slight pout.
"Whatcha do that for Luce, it hurt." He asked
"I told you why, don't call me a weirdo. Or Luigi, for that matter." She muttered the last part, but he seemed to have heard as he let out a slight laugh.
"But you are a weirdo." He shot back, and at her glare decided to change the topic.
"So I can call ya Luce then?" He asked suddenly taking Lucy off guard.
"You can call me Luce." She managed to say in a somewhat neutral tone, trying and partially failing to hide her blush.
"Cool, so what did take you and Gramps so long anyway?" He beamed at her, genuinely curious, moving to take the shot of whiskey in front of him.
"Oh, well, I discovered that my dad was the one that bound my magic, he also, he-" A lump formed in Lucy's throat as she tried to get the words out, eyes watering slightly.
She felt a warm hand envelop one of hers and when she looked up at him, Natsu gave her a reassuring squeeze.
Lucy took a deep breath.
"My mother was a mage. She could summon spirits from a different realm, when I was little I used to steal her keys and try to use them." She let out a small laugh, a few tears cascading down her cheeks.
"It would work sometimes, and other times I would just use up a lot of my magic and stop trying."
She remembered how many times she fainted in hopes of keeping opening one of the gates. And how many times her father yelled at her for it.
Clenching the hand that wasn't holding Natsu's she continued.
"They were my friends. They were my mother's friends." Lucy didn't know why she decided to share a part of her story with Natsu, but it made her feel a bit lighter.
"I thought you didn't know anything about magic before today, or yesterday. Or was it Sunday?"
He asked getting lost in the minutiae and making Lucy let out a giggle, shoulders dropping, she relaxed her posture and noticed their hand were still entwined.
She gave his hand a squeeze bringing his focus back to her.
She offered him a small smile "I didn't know about magic until yesterday. Well, I did, my father just decided that what good is it binding my magic, if I could still remember it exists?"
She felt Natsu's body temperature rise at her words, even the air around them was getting hotter, his eyes were glaring at her, but the anger was not directed toward her.
"Are ya tellin' me that your father did this? What kind of fucked up person does something like that to their kid?" He grits out and Lucy's heart swells once more.
"Hey, it's okay. The Master managed to bring my memories back and even gave me one of my mother's keys. Look, this is Aquarius!" She tried to divert his anger and get him to focus on something else.
The key warmed in her hands when she touched it.
His eyes snapped to the key the moment she pulled it out of her pocket. Fixated on it with a strange look on his face.
"Natsu?" Lucy asked snapping his attention to her. "Are you okay?"
Natsu's eyes shot back to the key in her hand inspecting it, before looking back at Lucy with a smile that wasn't as bright as it usually was.
"Yeah, I'm good. That sounds like cool magic to have, are ya gonna summon it here?" He asked.
"Well, I need water to summon Aquarius, a lake, or a river." Lucy answered, knowing that she could summon the water spirit from a pond, or even a fish bowl or toilet.
But from what she remembered of the water spirit she was mean and scary on a good day. Summoning her for the first time in a place like that would not end well.
'She would try and drown me.' Lucy shuddered at the thought. The key in her hand heated up even more at her thoughts.
"Okay, let's go get your stuff and see what your magic can do!" He said enthusiastically taking her hand and pulling her out of the guild doors before she could even protest.
With a bright flash, they both stumbled out of the door and into an empty street.
Slightly disoriented, Lucy stood straight with Natsu's help, looking around she couldn't see anyone around, it looked like a deserted part of town.
"Uh, where are we exactly?" Lucy asked turning to Natsu, who was dusting himself down.
"This is where I portaled from the other night, we are a few streets from the sea, do ya wanna go check out the key first or get your things ?" He asked her.
"So we're back in Hargeon." Lucy said to herself.
"We can go to the beach first, then we can find something to eat. Sounds good?" Lucy asked and Natsu let out a spew of fire from his mouth
"Yeshh, I'm all fired up now." He took her hand in his and started running in the direction of the beach. Or at least Lucy hoped.
* ********* ********** ********** ********* *
"Are ya gonna do somethin' or are ya gonna stare at it all day?" Natsu's voice broke her staring contest with Aquarius's key, and she turned to look back at him.
They arrived on the beach thirty minutes ago, and ever since Lucy had been standing at the shore, key in hand, frozen.
He was sitting crossed-legged, drawing patterns in the sand.
"Okay, I can do this, you're right."
Bracing herself, Lucy closed her eyes, thinking back to what, and how she felt when summoning her mother's spirits.
She felt her magic flow through her, looking for a way out, she focused on the key in her hand and felt it heat up.
Opening her eyes Lucy saw the key glowing slightly, she put the front in water.
"Open, gate of the water bearer, Aquarius." She exclaimed and felt a drain on her magic as a flash of light brought forward a blue-haired mermaid caring a jug.
She appeared, levitating on a wave of water.
"So cool." Lucy heard Natsu mumble from behind her at the woman's appearance.
"Tch, took you long enough to summon me. I don't have all day for you to make up your mind. I have a hot boyfriend waiting for me you know!" The spirit greeted her and Lucy's heart clenched at the familiar feeling the spirit ignited within her.
She felt tears build up in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, it's just after everything I was a little scared you would be mad at me. How is Scorpio?" Lucy told the spirit, voice cracking a bit.
She could feel warmth at her back and knew Natsu was behind her. He didn't touch her, but his presence brought her comfort.
The spirit's face softened at Lucy's words, shifting the jug in her hands, a splash of water came out and hit Lucy in the face.
"None of it was your fault. You need to get yourself together, build up your strength and learn how to use your magic." Aquarius told her.
Lucy nodded. "I will, I promise. Do, do you know where Mom sent any of the others?" She asked tentatively.
"I know where some of them are, but you will have to figure it out yourself." The woman answered her looking like she wanted to tell, but couldn't.
Lucy started to feel a bit dizzy holding Aquarius's gate open and swayed slightly on her feet. Natsu's hand was around her elbow in an instant, his chest supporting her back.
"Stupid girl. You haven't summoned a spirit in over 10 years and your magic isn't used to the strain yet. Let's make a contract before you pass out, and so I can go and get ready for my date."
* ********* ********** ********** ********* *
After making a contract with Aquarius (She can only summon her three times a week, never on a Saturday. Unless it's an emergency.)
Natsu and Lucy left the beach to go and find something to eat as it was nearing 4 pm at that point.
"I know this great buffet we can go to, it's all you can eat." Natsu told her as they walked down the streets of Hargeon.
Lucy was listening to him rant about the amazing food at the diner and was looking around the shop displays as they passed when she saw an ornate silver key in one of the windows.
"Hey, let's go in here for a second, I wanna look at something."
She said to Natsu as she stopped, he pouted at her, clearly wanting to get to the diner as soon as possible but Lucy had to know if this was a summoning key.
"Look, that key has a constellation on it." She pointed out to him and he looked at the display and shrugged.
"Sure, let's check it out."
Going into the store Lucy could tell it was owned by someone who loved antiques and knew how to care for them.
There were shelves filled with elaborately decorated trinkets, medieval pieces of armor, art, sculptures, and books that looked ancient in their own right
"Good afternoon, welcome to Herondale and Sons, may I assist you in any way?" A blonde-haired young man asked them, coming from behind the counter.
Lucy could feel Natsu's warmth at her back, her shoulder touching his chest.
"Good afternoon, yes I was wondering if I could take a look at the silver key that is in your display?" Lucy asked.
"Certainly, let me get it for you." The man replied politely, moving towards the display and opening it before carefully removing the key from where it is laid out.
Walking back to where they were, he handed the key to Lucy.
"Here you are, let me know if you need anything else."
Lucy took the key from the man with a smile, she felt a tingle when she touched it, not as strong as it was with Aquarius but it confirmed that it was indeed a magic key.
"So, is it the real deal?" Natsu whispered in her ear and Lucy jumped at the sensation of his hot breath on her neck. While not unpleasant, it did catch her off guard.
She managed to hold in a squeak and turned around to hit the back of his head.
"Have you ever heard of personal space? And yes, it is real. So let's go buy it so we can go eat, yeah?"
He was rubbing the back of his, mumbling under his breath but at the mention of food, his head shot up and he beamed at her. "What are we waiting for then?"
* ********* ********** ********** ********* *
After spending an absurd amount of money on the key, they finally made their way to the all-you-can-eat buffet, only to find out Natsu has been banned for life because he cleared the food the last time he was there.
Lucy tried not to laugh at the clearly dejected man, but it was a little funny.
"Come on, screw them, we can find another place to eat, I'll even buy you some dessert." She offered to try to cheer him up.
He turned to her with a wide smile. "I know just the place." And with that, he smiled and pulled her in an unknown direction.
Twenty minutes later, Lucy found herself opposite Natsu, swearing to herself never to eat with the man again.
He ate like it was his last meal and he's been starving for months.
"What's wrong? Don'tcha like the food?" He asked with a mouthful of food and Lucy couldn't help but grimace at the sight.
"No, the food is great. But you eat like an absolute pig, and it's a little unappetizing." She answered honestly making Natsu choke on his food.
Coughing into his hand, he managed to swallow his food and looked back at her.
"Geez, I never thought of that, sorry I was hungry." He looked a bit awkward admitting it and Lucy smiled at him.
"It's okay, just please try to be a little less messy. And don't talk with a full mouth." She said the last part sternly, making him sit up straight and salute her.
"Aye, sir."
Lucy giggled at his actions and started eating.
Natsu let her eat for 2 minutes before he went back to stuffing his face, albeit a little less gross this time around.
As they finished their food they both sat back in the booth.
"That was good food." Natsu said, rubbing his stomach.
"It was. You were right." Lucy told him making him smile. "'Course I was right, I know my food." He puffed out, blowing smoke into her face.
Coughing slightly, Lucy waved her hand in the air trying to get the smoke out of her face.
"Jerk." She muttered, making him laugh at her.
A waiter passed their table, making Lucy remember something she wanted to ask Mira before Natsu interrupted their conversation earlier.
"Hey Natsu, do you know where I could start looking for jobs when we get back to Magnolia?" She asked him.
He turned to look at her like she was crazy.
"I don't have a job, and I don't have any place to live. I can't just stay at the guild and do nothing. I only have so much money saved up."
That was true, before running away she managed to transfer the small amount of her trust fund she was allowed access to when she turned 18.
It was a good amount of money, it helped get her out of Crocus and put a down payment on her first apartment, after that she managed to find jobs and sustain herself and left the money for when shit hits the fan.
She thought that would happen when her father found her, but magical worlds being real works too.
"Why would you need to look for a job? Just work at Fairy Tail." Natsu finally answered her initial question, ignoring the previous rant.
"Oh, I guess I could waitress, or help Mira behind the bar." Lucy said making Natsu groan.
"No that's not what I meant, Levy and Wendy told you how being a guild mage works right?" He asked the last part more quietly.
"Oh you mean like going out and fighting monsters and evil wizards? No, thank you." Lucy told him making him pout at her.
"Oh don't be like that, it'll be fun. I'll even let you pick our first job." He pleaded with her, giving her the full pouty puppy dog face.
Lucy tried, she really did, but he looked so ridiculous and somehow so cute at the same time.
So she just sighed dramatically, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly.
"Fine, fine. I will go on a job with you."
Natsu whooped at her response, making most of the diner look at their booth, Lucy slid down the leather seats, cheeks red.
'Idiot." She thought fondly to herself as she listened to him ramble on about how they were going to kick ass.

Hi! So, I absolutely love your series where the MC is the kid of Lucifer, and I was wondering if I could request that with Diavolo and Barbatos? •v•
:0 you definitely can! Right now I’m just doing Diavolo, but Barb’s will be up sometime soon!
MC is Half Demon and Oh Shit They’re Diavolo’s Kid-
Diavolo wasn’t exactly what one would expect of the prince of Hell, I mean, he was suppressing the urge to bounce in his seat from pure excitement. I mean, his exchange program was starting! Humans, demons, and angels, all together, his dream was coming true.
All that was left was for the student to arrive, the portal opened, and the human fell flat on their back. Oof, maybe Diavolo should have set up some kind of landing zone filled with pillows. No matter! The human was-
…
What peculiar eyes this human had…
Oh… oh dear…
Dad-volo
The MC was his child, no question about it. This was… very unexpected. Well, the entire assembly hall was completely quiet, and the kid looked like they were getting impatient.
“HEY! Mind telling me what the hell is going on?!”
After that, Diavolo launches into his explanation, also the explanation that he’s definitely this kid’s dad. Kid was not impressed, they tried to square up with Diavolo and Lucifer had never been more confused as to what to do.
Well, the moment MC sprouted wings and launched themselves at Diavolo, Dia caught them with one hand and continued speaking like nothing happened.
MC, please calm down… Diavolo didn’t know they existed, let him make it up to them! They’re going to stay at the Demon Lord’s Castle! Dia’s going to be a good dad!
“This feels like the plot to the world’s most messed up fairytale.” MC jammed their hands into their pockets and grumbled. “I get sucked into hell and find out I’m royalty there. Great.”
Diavolo managed to smile and awkwardly reach out to give them a pat on the head, then retracted his hand after the kid shot him a glare. “Well, it’s not a very traditional fairytale, but I’m sure you’ll enjoy your time here.”
“Mm, sure.” MC mumbled.
Okay, so his child wasn’t that enthusiastic about the exchange program, but Diavolo was sure they’d come around.
Dia tried everything he could possibly think of to get his kid to both like him and enjoy their time as an exchange student. A lot of things had… mixed results.
Also, legally recognizing MC as his child and legitimizing them caused a big stink amongst the nobles who were opposed to the exchange program to begin with. So MC then had to deal with a few assassins. Wonderful. Fantastic. Show stopping. Dia, be a good dad and comfort your angsty murder target- I MEAN preteen.
They do manage to build a good relationship fairly quickly despite their less than stellar first impressions, and Diavolo made them a promise that he knew he wouldn’t ever break: he would let them live as normal a childhood as possible.
This means that MC gets to do all the normal kid stuff that Diavolo wasn’t allowed to do. It honestly works out great for everyone. MC gets to live their life, Diavolo gets the satisfaction of knowing that his kid’s having fun, and Barbatos doesn’t need to worry about MC causing chaos in the castle.
Man… does this kid’s magic potential scare the shit out of everyone though…
Tired Uncle Lucifer
No. This has to be a violation of his worker rights. It cannot be legal for him to be this stressed.
He knew this exchange program was a bad idea. LUCIFER FUCKING KNEW IT. This kid was judging him. Why did he suddenly feel self conscious about every single one of his features? This child was picking him apart and they hadn’t even said anything!
He confiscated Asmo’s phone immediately, this was a matter of national security! Satan’s too! Beel as- oh shit Lucifer may have to give Beel the heimlich maneuver, then take his phone.
When all the brothers eventually got back to the HOL, they were greeted with Mammon getting shaken down by Levi.
“Lucifer! Ya won’t believe this! Levi- what’s wrong with you?” “The exchange student is Diavolo’s child.” “What..?” “*pops the cork off a bottle of Demonus* the exchange student’s Diavolo’s child.”
The worst part about this kid was that they took to the privileges of being royalty like a fish to water. MC went out and did whatever the fuck they wanted, and Lucifer needed to make sure a state of national emergency wasn’t called just because MC picked a fight at RAD.
It didn’t help that MC was just so unimpressed with Lucifer. Anytime Lucifer would tell them not to do something they would just raise their eyebrows and challenge his authority without saying a word.
What the fuck.jpg
The things he does for his prince boyfriend…
Cool Uncle Mammon
Huh, so this little pipsqueak is Lord Diavolo‘s kid? Hm, do ya think they’d let him into the royal treasury? No? Okay… lame.
Mammon then decides this kid would be just perfect for scamming people! Who is going to say no to the Crown Prince’s kid? A suicidal person, that’s who!
And the kid is… up for it? Wow, Mammon didn’t even have to grovel! Awesome!
It’s such a shame that Lucifer came in and promptly removed MC from Mammon’s presence. Tsk, killjoy…
Mammon and MC do get along swimmingly after MC stops angsting. Whenever they hang out it’s pure chaos.
And they would have gotten away with it too- wait, they do get away with it. Because who’s going to question the Crown Prince’s kid? >:)
Reclusive Uncle Leviathan
Levi was in the middle of throttling Mammon for his money back when Lucifer burst through the door looking like he had spent over 1000 Grimm on a gacha game only to not get the card he wanted.
And where was that human he said would be staying with them? Huh? The human’s HUH????!!!!
… wack. Maybe he shouldn’t have skipped out on that Student Council Meeting…
Either way, ew, new person he needed to talk to. NO THANKS. Well, no thanks until MC started to visit the HOL to hang out with Mammon. Of course those two normies decided to bug him. OF COURSE.
Levi finally snapped when MC loudly proclaimed that they could totally beat Levi in Mario Kart. Haha, NO. Levi challenged the little runt to a 1 v 1 race on Rainbow Road.
Kid lost. Obviously. Rainbow Road is rigged.
Honestly, kid’s alright. Still a total normie, but not completely terrible.
Cat Uncle Satan
Huh, a half human child of the soon to be demon king, how very interesting.
Oh, and just look at Lucifer’s face. :D priceless. Satan wished he was fast enough to get his DDD out to snap a picture, but he wasn’t able to…
But back to MC, oh how very intriguing. How much power do they have in comparison to Diavolo? Will using that power rip their fragile little body apart? Would they learn to control it? Satan was just dying to find out.
His feelings on the child themselves were mixed at best. They were clearly unhappy with the situation and Satan could sympathize, being thrust into a completely new world and then being told you can’t leave and are also royalty? That has to be hard. But this kid was still being an unreasonable little shit.
Satan continued to try and study MC from afar until the kid themselves walked right up to him and half demanded half pleaded for his help in studying for a test.
Not being one to avoid an opportunity to flex how smart he is, Satan agreed to help out. (Nerrrrd)
And honestly, it went well. When the kid wasn’t being a little shit, they were actually quite pleasant to be around.
Overly Affectionate Uncle Asmo
…wut
Listen, when Asmo asked Lucifer to pick a cute human, he didn’t mean cute as in CHILD.
This kid was DIAVOLO’S?! What lucky human had gotten to have the experience of [Jesus Fucking Christ, Asmo I’m not writing what he said for the sake of the nation]
Anyhoo~ little MC just made his heart go “SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SO CUTE!” They were so cute Asmo could just eat them up!
But they were so mean! That scowl they always had on was going to give them wrinkles and ruin their perfectly cute face!
Sigh, oh well. He can’t manually rearrange people’s expressions. What he can do is take this child shopping. Poor Diavolo was constantly in his RAD uniform, this poor innocent baby shouldn’t have to suffer the same fate.
The kid continued to scowl at everything, but at the same time, their little quips were very entertaining. This little kid spitting verbal venom at anyone who displeased them reminded Asmo of someone… he just couldn’t place who, but they definitely had amazing hair and a cute face :3
Hungry Uncle Beel
Where’s the takeout- I mean human? What’s happening? …are all humans this small? Dang, that’s barely enough for a snack.
So the human’s not going to live with us because they’re not fully human and Diavolo’s kid? Huh. Wild. Anyway, what’s for dinner?
Beel’s not too invested in this drama, he misses Belphie too much to be that interested…
The kid’s weirdly interested in how cool and strong Beel is though. MC tails him to the gym pretty often.
Diavolo and Beel already being gym buddies send tweet-
Since this benevolent little shit likes Beel so much, they decided to take it upon themselves to help with the family drama.
Beel finds that very sweet 🥺
Murder sleepy Uncle Belphie
Oh man… if you thought Belphie was being unfair to L!MC due to their parentage… hoo boy…
When this kid waltzed up the attic steps like they ran the place, Belphie needed to hold himself back from trying to break down the door and throttle this kid.
Pff, of course Diavolo would have a half human kid. Of course.
…kid beat the shit out of him when he tried to kill them. We stan this MC.
After all is said and done, Belphie still isn’t overly fond of MC. They’re brash and rude and only funny 40% of the time. They don’t even like napping 😒
But Beel likes the little runt, so Belphie and MC put up with each other.
Bonus! Your Angelic Uncle Simeon’s Chihuahua
:0 friend!
MC: *speaks*
>:0 not friend! Begone! *throws crucifix*

Royal siren erasermic family? They like adopt you after you hatch from an egg bc they found you or something idk and take you back to the castle and make you their little princess or something cute and fluffy like that.
YANDERE SIREN ERASERMIC FAMILY X BABY PRINCESS READER
Shinso was just out and about, swimming through some forbidden areas he wasn’t supposed to be in, avoiding sharks, when he found an iridescent little ball under some rubble of a shipwreck, it made his gills tingle at the sweet aura that it emmited, he knew, that this creature, was something to protect. It was up until he saw something moving inside that he thought it was just some ancient treasure that would’ve died with this ship, he examined it closer, squinting his eyes, that’s when he realized, it was a Siren. A baby one at that, usually they hatched out of boring white eggs, the royal family’s were gold, but a shiny color changing white that combated the finest of jewels? Never, this little pip was special, he could feel it.
So he brought it back home, through his “balcony window”, debating wether or not he should tell his parents. As you know, he was somewhere where he was not supposed to be, and they would throw a fit. Then again, whatever this thing was, he couldn’t just keep it to himself, something was living inside it, and he wouldn’t know if something was wrong, so he has too. When he did, it came as a suprise that his parents weren’t mad, they jsut kindof stared at the orb, inhaling the addictive scent it gave off, the three huddled around it, aizawa carefully picking the Small thing up, it was only about the size of a pumpkin, extremely easy to pick up, yet he could still feel the heartbeat of a creature inside, it just had to be one of the sirenfolk , there isn’t any other explanation. He stared at it in confusion, noticing the small cracks staring to form.
Then a little hand popped through, and scared the shit out of all of them.
———
As it turned out, you were in fact a siren, a rare subtype of them, thought to have gone extinct long, long ago. The opal-looking scales that littered your arms and tail showed proof of it, this species were intensely more fragile, and weaker, that’s why they went extinct, as they couldn’t hear, and a small crabs pinch could cause major bone breaks, they were just too weak, yet so beautiful. That’s why they were coveted among the royal family. It only helped their growing obsession taht you were so cute.
It might’ve been an act of I’mpulse, but they just needed to have you as their own, of course, their word is law, so they could’ve just kept you, but they felt the need to make it official, they’d already had two pips, you’re just their third! It was simple, of course, you specific species could be born into sirenfolk families, it was just so rare that it had only happened once. You were just so cute, so fragile, just something so breakable, they just
H a d
To protect this tiny lil thing, it was instinctual to feel a protective pull over their little pups, and boy were they feeling that right now, you were special, not just any baby, but you were theirs. Their special little pup, nothing would ever lay a hand on you, ever. It had only be a few days, and word spreads through the underwater kingdom like a wave, from the servant maid who showed them how to take care of you, to the head maid, to a citizen, to the fisher, and eventually, by the end of the week, the whole kingdom was eagerly waiting to get a glimpse of their new princess.
And boy were they shocked to find out it was an opalite, the most rare of rare sirens in the world. Immediately after they had shown you to the world, sitting in a large clam as it was pulled by sharks, the citizens fell in love with you, maybe it was the fact that you were related to their beloved royals, maybe because the royal family would intensely glare at anyone who made negative comments, maybe it was the fact that a few of those people went missing, but who knows right?
You still hadn’t been able to open your eyes yet, and you won’t be able to hear them for a very long time, your hands were about the size of aizawas eye, and you looked closer to a fish than a human, as you hadn’t even developed your face yet, another plus to being the endangered species, note the sarcasm. And guess what? They found it so adorable, just their cute little baby, their little pup who can’t even protect themselves from the water around them. They just loved every part of your little body, from your tails, to your tiny little hands, to your shiny gills. It was all just so perfect- you were so perfect, and you were theirs, they were gonna protect you at all costs.
So of course they did, you were just so tiny right now, they knows practically anything could hurt you, so they opted to be around you all the time, only leaving to hunt for humans that would suffice for their tastes, drawling them in, determined because of that little smile of yours. You motivated them to do it, they were doing this for you. It have them all a sense of pride to have you feel safe with them, to rite them you. On their own terms.
Eri was constantly around you, being that she was a young one just like you, and you were her little sister! So she wanted to always be around while you made those echoing gurgling noises, or flapped your hands around in the water, she didn’t have responsibility in the kingdom yet, unless being cute is a job, so she can be with you jsut as much as she wants. Always sitting with you while you played with the floating pearls that they had arranged over your play area, watching you feel new things, holding you while you dozed off with adorable little bubbles, she always was with you.
Like now, she’s been with you all day, giving you little snacks, glaring at the guards at the door who always had their eyes on you… creeps. The sun was almost setting, and when you’re low down in the ocean it goes pitch black after a little while, and that’s when the jellyfish come out, tonight was one of the most special days out of the year in the northern oceans, the jellyfish festival, the one night a year when the rare white jellyfish would come out to say hi, leaving trails of shimmering sparkle behind them, painting the upper levels of the ocean a shiny silver. It just so happened that it occurred on your first birthday, a very small increment to sirens, as they live almost a billion years, but still a big accomplishment in their eyes. Look! Their little baby girl is turning one! How amazing!
“Do you see them hon? Look, they’re just starting to appear” Aizawa asked both you and eri calmly, swishing his hand through the salty water to pint at the new appearance of white and purple blobs, slowly flouncing their way overhead. Eri smiled up at it, her pointed teeth displayed in full view, her eyes shined at the view, not only of the huge jellyfish, but also at you, who was placed delicately in mics lap, sat up against his chest. Little bubbles escaped your mouth as you blew raspberries into the water, just making the family laugh.
“Mm-hmmm! Look! Look! How pretty! I wanna touch em! Can I touch em!” She yelled at her parents, excitedly pointing towards the jelly’s floating towards the surface, her hair floated behind her as she swished around, shinsho just chuckled, knowing that she eventually would try to touch them, and get zapped, again, like last year, and the year before, and the year before.
“No hon. Don’t do that to us again, you wanna wish your sister a happy birthday? She’s probably really exited!” Mic cheered, distracting his daughter from touching the jellyfish, yet again, meanwhile, you were happily bouncing up and down on his lap, enjoying the freedom of your arms, swishing them all over the place, grabbing the beads around your neck, jsut anything.
“But dad! Why not! It’s not like it’s hurt me or anything I’ll be fi-“ she begged, throwing her hands up in a small tempter tantrum, clearly forgetting her previous events of pain, and idiocy.
“No- nope no no, we aren’t doing this again, please honey, just please, remember last time, we had to clean up your wounds OUTSIDE-of water, you hate going to the surface remember? “
“Yeah but-“ she started speaking, but was soon cut off with a loud giggle, resonating through your lips, kindof rare for you, you hadn’t been very vocal outside of a few gurgles here and there, so it had each and every ones heads turning. That’s when they saw it, your beautiful eyes, shin sing in reflection to the jellyfish. Those beautiful little eyes of yours mesmerized all of them, a pitch black (for protection from the salt), with a shiny silver-like pupal, immediately after they opened, a burst of color filled your vision. You giggled and clapped your hands together with a small toothless smile, watching as the floaty creates went overhead, glittering with the light.
The absolutely gorgeous splash above was admired by the family form their own viewing post, the blues and whites combined to make a heavenly display. You could feel the cool sprinkles of light they emmited hitting your skin, smiling at the feeling, you splayed your hands out and flailed them against the water.
“Ohhhhhh- oh wow. Honey! Honey look! Her eyes opened! Look at taht! Aren’t you just so magical! Look at you, my little pup.” Mic smacked Aizawa over the chest multiple times, pointing at your clearly opened eyes, you just remained oblivious, staring up at all the new things around you, like.. everything! He turned you around to face him, letting you actually see his face for the first time, taking in the long yellow hair, the (also) black eyes, the ethereal face dotted with shiny yellow gills, him, you could see him!
“She’s developing smoothly, I’m glad. Awww, that’s pretty cute.” Aizawa replied to him, holding in his emotions, as soon as he met those new eyes of yours it’s like everything else disappeared, like the world itself didn’t exist, outside of him, and his fmaily. You took his breath away, or what you could call breath, so cute and innocent, such a small thing, that brings so much joy. Your little tail swished back and forth as you stared up at them happily, taking in the features of the people you’d learned to recognize by touch. Blowing raspberries out of your lips with a stream of bubbles.
“Awwwww! I’m gonna cry, she’s growing so fast! Soon she’ll be swimming in her own! In like 200 years! Too soon, way too soon. Comers baby- mm hmmm” mic spoke, knowing full well that even if he did cry, his tears would get sucked in by the ocean. He pulled you close, moving your head I’ve this shoulde is it would rest in the crook of his neck while he hugged you, eventually, the others joined in, eri practically flopping ontop (with careful regard for you of course).
They all stared at you, while you stared up at the “sky”, oblivious to their stares, to the ways they would growl at anyone who came close, to how they kept you from seeing anyone other than what they personally approve. After all, you are jsut their little pup, of course you wouldn’t notice! Their little pup… feels right to say that, it isn’t like you have any family waiting, they aren’t ever gonna come here.
And if they ever did?
Then, well, a few mermaids are going missing

Coming out - Gorou edition
I dunno why this came to my mind, but I've been thinking on it a bit. This features a trans!reader (but done in a way that's pretty neutral I think, so you can imagine it how you like!) having just come out to Gorou (who also happens to be trans, unbeknownst to the reader).
Content warnings: General kind of trans talk, mention of Gorou having top surgery scars, hormone therapy (if Teyvat can have magic elemental keychains they can have HRT i will not take criticism on this), a bit of suspense as you await his reaction (which comes off as a little incredulous but it really isn't, Gorou is just Like That when presented with heavy news) but a happy ending! A completely platonic pre-established relationship with a trans guy!Gorou. He also has a prosthetic left leg because I said so.
Word count: 605
The silence between you two is palpable as you await Gorou's response to your announcement. You can feel your heart beating in your throat as you stare at him, trying desperately to read his carefully neutral expression as he processes the news.
It all came out in a big burst, all at once, not necessarily unplanned, but you definitely gave him all the information before he could get a word in edgewise - your name, your pronouns, how and when you realised, everything.
He wets his lips, his fluffy tail meandering off to one side as he tilts his head slightly. Then his face sort of crinkles towards the middle in amusement.
"What's wrong?" You ask nervously - you were already terrified of not being taken seriously, and his delayed reaction is making it significantly worse.
Gorou lets out a sharp bark of laughter before slapping a hand over his mouth. Your heart breaks a little - you thought that Gorou, of all people, would get it.
"W-wait, no, no!" Gorou exclaims upon seeing your face fall. "No, nonono, it's not like that!" He says quickly, his ears flattening in mortification. "I just...I..." He wrings his hands, glancing around to double check that the two of you are well out of earshot of anyone else. "Is there a reason you came to me first?"
"I just... you're my friend, and I..." You murmur out through half-closed lips, tilting your gaze away from the general - you feel like he's not taking you seriously at all. "Thought you'd understand..." You blink a few times, trying to keep a firm lid
"Hey, hey, waitwaitwait." Gorou bounces on his toes, tail flip-flopping side to side a few times in what can almost be read as frustration as his prosthetic squeaks with the awkward movement. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I just - it's funny, is all."
"What is?" You all but demand the explanation, crossing your arms over your chest, trying to hide how upset you are.
"Not you, not you! Well, kind of you, I just-" Gorou's hands flutter as he tilts his head to one side, then the other. "I am too!" He announces finally.
"What?" You're a little taken aback at the announcement.
"Y-yeah, look, see!" With no hesitation, he tugs up his harness, usually so carefully positioned, to reveal two long, horizontal scars across his upper chest. They're old and faded, from a distance looking like nothing more than the shadow of his pecs, especially with the generous amount of hazelnut coloured hair smattered across his torso.
You relax a little as you process this revelation - you're still a little hurt at his initial reaction, but Gorou has always been a little like that, reacting before he thinks. "Ah." You let out a tiny sigh of relief.
"It's gonna be so great to have someone else around who understands!" He gushes excitedly, his tail beginning to wag as he pulls his harness back down and steps a little closer to you, fingers twitching in a silent request of permission for a hug.
You can't help but smile, letting your arms fall open as he swoops you into a tight hug, pressing his face against yours as his tail wags. "I really am glad you told me." He mutters to you - you can feel one of his ears prodding at the side of your head as it twitches about. "And I'm ready to do anything and everything to support you." It's a solemn promise, and it makes you feel warm and safe inside, even as he releases you and steps back, grinning reassuringly.
"It's all going to be okay, I promise. You're gonna do great."

Life’s a Beach (1)
I underestimated how long this fic was, so I smashed them together. I will continue just posting snippets and writing it like that (and then smashing them together), but since most of you will already have read it, I will include a bonus scene at the end. My thank you for putting up with my unconventional writing process.
Summary: Tarquin comes to town and Cassian is jealous.
~
Cassian doesn’t like when Tarquin visits.
Never mind the ban from the Summer Court or that at one point, blood rubies pilfer their court. Never mind that Summer crowns him holier than the seas and the sun. Cassian doesn’t like the ease in which he walks. He may not have his usual royal garb, but he glides along the Sidra. The mighty king out for a stroll.
Nesta looks like his queen.
His mate is bright and beaming, huffing laughs and smiling wide as she praises his ideas. Cassian has ideas, too.
But Nesta isn’t interested in his ideas as he follows them around. Nesta just continues smiling. Her skin glows with the sun, the apples of her cheeks turning a pretty shade of apricot as Tarquin notes the dying rays. Are you a poet Tarquin? Cassian wants to ask, but knowing the High Lord, he just might be and Nesta fucking loves poetry.
Her cheeks remain pink and Cassian resists grabbing her hand and dragging her back to the house. You’ll die of heatstroke; he might say if she protests. But no.
He won’t.
He promises to be on his best behavior.
Even so, Cassian can’t help eyeing buildings as they pass. Just break one, he urges. One and we can ban you from the Night Court. But that might mean, Nesta spending some time in Summer, with her good friend Tarquin, who makes Nesta beam like that, make her cheeks red like that.
All Cassian sees is red.
All Nesta looks at is Tarquin.
“You know, I never thought someone as young as you would be so conniving.”
Conniving? Cassian isn’t paying attention, but at the word, he’s ready to deem it insulting enough to fight Tarquin if Nesta so much as gives him a look. But Nesta only listens as Tarquin speaks. Cassian can’t even read her expression. It’s blank as she stares.
“I admire that quality,” The little high lord says.
Admire someone else, buddy.
Nesta only snorts, the words making her laugh.
The light plays with her eyes as she smirks. They look bluer today. Less silver. Cassian has to think that it has something to do with Tarquin. Tarquin who brings out the blue in Nesta’s eyes, who brings pink to her cheeks. Never mind that it probably has more to do with how bright it is today.
“You’re too smart,” he remarks, and Cassian wants to roll his eyes. Nesta is too smart, too smart to be hanging around with some pompous flatterer. “No wonder you’re good at this game.”
“What game?” She asks, lightly, but even Cassian can hear the caution. Her voice slowing as if coaxing an answer from his lips.
“The game we all play. These situations that have us playing with life whether we want to or not.” Nesta lilts her head curiously, waiting for further explanation and Cassian waits too, because he’s not sure he understands. Tarquin looks like he’d rather not speak of it, but he continues even so.
“Fae are good at games–invented them really. Court politics, morality, marriage, and bargains. I have to believe you’re good at them. Not just because I’ve seen you, but because I know what Eris offered as soon as he had you in his arms… It’s always the smart ones who win these games–the most clever.”
Nesta rolls her eyes as if his words offer no great importance, “It’s never the smart ones who win.” She counters. “Not the ones who are strongest or the most magically gifted or the one who smiles the sweetest while she glides across the floor. There is no game that you can win by being the most beautiful person in the room… No game I’d want to play anyways.”
“Then who does win?” He urges. Tarquin almost sounds desperate for the answer, and Cassian has to wonder if Nesta has woven a spell around him too just as much as Eris.
“Whoever’s luckiest,” Nesta shrugs simply, “So there’s no point in trying so hard… We all end up in the exact place we were always supposed to be in.”
She doesn’t sound happy about that either, and something about the tone makes Cassian want to hold her close. Make her remember that it’s a joy to be here. To be together, even if it is with another male who skin beams with the summer sun.
I’m lucky to have you.
He hopes she knows.
“Then you’re lucky,” Tarquin notes, “And blessed. You’re blessed and lucky. Smart and clever.” He laughs as if brushing the seriousness off, “Is that why you’re so good at cards? Azriel was moping last night. I thought that had something to do with you.”
Nesta lifts a casual shoulder, a soft smile playing on her lips. Cassian thinks even that is a play–some move she knows will help her counter his attack. “Azriel loses because he wants to win and it’s easy to win against someone who’s already shown their cards.”
“Motivations are everything.”
“Yes,” Nesta nods frankly, “so why are you here?”
Cassian wants to know, too.
Actually, Cassian wants to push him into the Sidra and see if pretty fishman can float, but he’ll take Nesta’s verbal spar in any case. If he runs back to the House with his tail between his legs, Cassian will consider it a win for the both of them. His lovely strategist.
But Tarquin doesn’t run. Cassian doesn’t think Tarquin will ever run from Nesta and that simple fact makes him furious. That there is another male in this world who will see Nesta and not balk, who will know Nesta and not grimace.
Cassian is not the only male who stays. Not for the power or the beauty or the poise, but because underneath all of that is a female who can conquer as much as she can tame. Whose voice sounds like the sea, whose eyes are crystal clear waters, whose mind rages against the tide.
Tarquin breathes in ocean air.
Every morning, he fishes on the coast. Every evening, he sleeps to the humming sea. Who would know Nesta better than someone who dreams of waves?
So, it doesn’t come as any surprise when Tarquin looks to him, as she asks her question. Why are you here?
“Because I want to know you.”
A fool’s choice.
“I’m not foolish enough to claim you,” He adds, “and I’m not foolish enough to think you’ll ever be claimed, even if you have a mate. No offense, Cassian.”
Offense taken.
“I’m not even foolish enough to think I can even begin to know who you are or what you’ve been through… But when you looked at me that day in the Summer Court, and asked me to help your family, offered me anything that you could give me alone.”
What? Cassian looks to Nesta, but she promptly ignores him, staring at Pompous Prince Tarquin.
“I’d never seen anyone want so badly. I wanted to know what that felt like. Know what stirred so deeply in your heart that you looked at me like you’d give me the entire world for just one yes.”
Tarquin raises a shoulder and Cassian tries not to swallow so loudly. He thinks he might have to shove a fist down his throat to stop his screaming, “You’re a question I keep mulling over and I’ve yet to figure out what the answer is. I don’t even know if I could know the answer if it stared me in the eyes, but I would like to learn. To feel half of what you feel, to learn how to love so truly.”
~
Cassian replays her answer as he sleeps. He goes over it and over it and over it again. At some point, he wakes her up in the middle of the night, shaking her shoulder.
“Nesta,” he whispers, “Nesta? What did you mean?”
His mate only groans, her brows furrowing, as she burrows further into blankets. Cassian knows he’s playing in dangerous territory, but he can’t stop thinking about. It’s driving him insane.
“Nesta, what did you mean?”
He says it once louder, shaking her again. Nesta only juts out her elbow, hitting him in the rib. Cassian holds in the heavy moan as he clutches his chest, and Nesta settles in her sleep.
Still, Cassian can’t give up now. “When you told Tarquin you’d think about it, what did you mean? Nesta?”
Cassian grasps her shoulder, shaking her lightly, “Nesta!”
“What?” Nesta yells, leaning up so fast, she almost hits her head on his chin. “What do you keep yelling about? I’m trying to sleep!”
Even furious and half-asleep, she looks beautiful. The strap of her nightgown slips down one shoulder, and he trails the movement as if his own fingers push it down. Nesta crosses her arms, and he swallows down the want. Not an appropriate time, Cassian.
She raises a brow, “Well?”
“I wanted to talk,” he says simply.
Nesta looks to the clock on the wall, glaring at him exasperated. “At two in the morning?”
“Good a time as any.”
She looks mad that much is true, and Cassian wishes to appease.
His mate is tired, so he’ll fluff her pillows, rub her shoulders while she relaxes enough to tell him exactly what she means when she tells Tarquin she’ll think about it. As if his I want to get to know you is an offer she can’t refuse.
But as he fluffs her pillows, Cassian can only think of Tarquin.
He would have waited to speak to her, prioritizing Nesta’s health over his wants. Just this morning… or yesterday morning, the High Lord of Summer makes sure to ask Nesta if she’s eaten as she reads her book on the couch–a fact he finds rude to say the least–and when she says no, he offers to make breakfast for her. Oh, so generous of him. Never mind that they have a House who cooks their meals.
Cassian scoffs as he thinks about it. What High Lord plays chef? And who is he to ask if Nesta’s eaten as if his mate isn’t being taken care of?
He yanks at the pillow, beats at it, punches it. He can’t help but imagine Tarquin’s face. He can see feathers jutting from the cushion, and still he hits. The cloth lays in the cinders on the bed before he stops.
Nesta sighs at the mess, grabbing one of the pillows from his side, clasping it to her head.
“What are you doing?” Cassian asks.
“Hoping I suffocate enough to pass out.”
Her voice is muffled, and he grasps at the pillow. Her hair is a ruffled mess. It splays out on the pillow in waves. Cassian can’t help but breathe at the sight of her and the sound is a sigh of relief.
She’s his… Or as much as Nesta can be his.
She chose him.
Nesta with her matted hair, the side of her cheek pink from where she pushes up against the pillow, her silver nightgown making her skin glow in the light of the moon, chooses him.
Shouldn’t that be enough?
Cassian rubs at his face, feeling all too shameful. “I’m sorry. I just–” He takes in their bed, feathers littering the duvet. Suddenly, he feels like a little kid. What was he doing beating a pillow like that? Waking Nesta in the middle of the night?
“You’re jealous,” Nesta says.
Her voice echoes in the room, and Cassian frowns at the words. Of course, he’s jealous. That much is obvious. He’s always jealous.
Nesta is beautiful and powerful and smiles like she grants the sun its light, and males flock to her like moths. Not just any males either but stupid princes and arrogant High Lords and stupid, arrogant Tarquin!
Nesta only grabs at the pillow in his hands, setting it under her head as she closes her eyes. He waits for her to speak, but he can only hear the ticking of the clock, on and on as time passes.
Nesta doesn’t say a thing.
“That’s it? That’s all you have to say. You’re jealous and you go back to sleep.”
The pretty pink of her lips purse, but she doesn’t even open her eyes as she says, “If you were looking for comfort, you shouldn’t have woken me up at two in the morning.”
Well… damn.
Cassian settles back at his side, crossing his arms as he stares at the ceiling. He’s one less pillow down, but that doesn’t bother him much. It’s the thoughts that don’t quiet even for a second. Stupid mating bond.
That thought though has him looking to Nesta. No, he loves that mating bond. He loves her. And even if Tarquin wants to impede himself like a wall between them, Cassian will still love Nesta Archeron.
He closes his eyes repeating those words as if they’re a lullaby that will let him drift off to sleep. I love Nesta Archeron. I love Nesta Archeron. I love Nesta Archeron.
The words don’t comfort him even a little.
But Nesta sets her head on his chest. She tucks herself in to the crook of his arm and Cassian squeezes gently–he tries not to hold on too tight.
She must sense his surprise. Whether that be from the bond or because Nesta knows him like that back of her hand, he doesn’t know. But she blinks one eye open, looking at him with bright grey and all his fears are assuaged.
“You should hold me since you woke me up.”
Cassian can only blink, nodding his head as she wraps his arms around her, and he settles in. He can hear her heart beating and he can hear her soft breathing and Cassian can go to sleep to this. He can.
Cassian will hold her until she tells him let go. Cassian will not let go.
Still… he can’t help it.
“I bet Tarquin can’t hold you like this.”
Cassian only gets mouth full of feathers.
~
Tarquin tells Rhys that he’s going to stay for two weeks. During this time, they’ll talk of treaties, draw up some plan of trade, some easy comings and goings of Night Court and Summer Court residences. Cassian tells Rhys that they don’t need a treaty. Throw him out now, he thinks.
“Is something going on with you?” Rhys asks, leaning back in his chair, ever the High Lord. Cassian is starting to hate High Lords.
Cassian crosses his arms, grinding his teeth. He’s in the sitting room in the estate. Amren solves a puzzle as if nothing about this meeting is important at all. Mor talks to Feyre by the dining room, gossiping rather than listening to Rhys moan about Tarquin and peace treaties. Nesta, not that she goes to these meetings, is out doing gods know what with Tarquin who wants to view the city.
Take me to all your favorite places, he says. Cassian rolls his eyes just thinking about the way Nesta’s light up. Bookstores and restaurants and museums. She knows them all. Nesta goes with him, first. Why does Tarquin care? Is he planning on buying a winter house in Velaris?
Cassian’s blood runs cold at the thought.
“He’s jealous,” Azriel says, throwing a scroll at Rhys which he easily catches.
Mor’s head jerks up at the word, even Feyre smirks with interest.
“No,” Cassian dismisses, but he’s never been a good liar. His voice pitches high and Rhys eyes him with humor, “I… just think that we don’t need Summer Court resources, when we have an abundance of them already.”
“You’re also banned,” Amren comments helpfully, “I would say that makes you the most biased towards these dealings.”
“Your boyfriend is from the Summer Court; wouldn’t that make you the most biased?” Mor asks. Amren simply shrugs.
“I mean have we considered that. That male banned me and now we’re opening our borders?”
“Our borders have always been open,” Feyre says, not so helpfully. The look she gives him has him sinking in his seat. “Also, you wrecked the central magistrate.”
“They’ve rebuilt it,” Cassian argues.
“You mates are all the same,” Amren groans loudly, “She’s not going to fuck Tarquin.”
“Shut up Amren!”
“That’s the best you can do? I’m sure Tarquin’s more eloquent.”
“Amren,” Feyre says, giving her that motherly reprimanding look. An expression that Cassian supposes comes with the motherhood package.
It does the trick.
Amren sneers, but she settles back where she sits on the floor, picking at her puzzle. Cassian has the sudden urge to knock the pieces off the table, just for the comment alone.
“Nesta loves you, Cassian,” Feyre says, her voice light and calming. Too bad it doesn’t calm him, and he doesn’t want to talk about this now even if she goads. “What’s there to be jealous of?”
Cassian already knows this answer. He knows this answer this morning, the other night, the minute summer enters Velaris spring. It’s not that Nesta loves him. Cassian knows Nesta loves him. It’s that he lets his guard down. He forgets the most crucial information of all–
Nesta is easily lovable.
Sure, she might give a sneer or two at someone who annoys her well enough or beat the living daylights out of someone who threatens those she loves, but Nesta is an easily lovable dork.
She laughs at stupid things and it’s the most beautiful sound he’s ever heard. She’s a goofball! He swears she knows every book in that library. She absorbs information like a sponge, will rant for hours about everything she learns. Her thoughtfulness knows no bounds. They’ll be off at the market and if she sees something that looks like Gwyn or Emerie or himself or whoever, she has to have it. She has to give it to them. They go to get cinnamon buns and she orders enough for the priestesses. She remembers everyone’s birthday. She learns the name of every patron and their families and their language and their holidays. It’s not hard to love Nesta.
Who would not love Nesta?
So yes, he has something to be jealous of.
“You look stressed,” Mor notes, her eyebrows raising.
Amren nods, “You look like you’re going to fight someone.”
“Or puke,” Azriel adds.
“Just don’t fight Tarquin,” Rhys concludes, “I can’t ban you from the court, but I can certainly make sure you’re away in Illyria while he’s here.”
“You guys are really supportive, you know that?”
“Well at least we’re not trying to steal you’re girl,” Mor teases.
“Yet.”
Cassian gives her a glare, but she only laughs a bright sound.
“I’ve never seen you jealous,” she says.
“I’m not jealous.”
Azriel raises a pointed finger, “what about that one time you threw that rock at that window?”
“Or when you broke that male’s nose,” Rhys suggests.
Amren rolls her eyes, setting down a piece of her puzzle, “How about the last time we all went to a bar.”
Mor, Azriel, and Rhys look to each other, contemplating the words. Cassian watches as they nod their heads slowly.
“Oh yeah.”
“You’re right.”
“You were jealous then, too.”
“I was not jealous,” Cassian insists.
Thankfully, Feyre–sweet Feyre offers him relief. She raises her hands, and Cassian thinks he’s glad to have such a loyal sister-in-law. “Guys, he was not jealous.”
Thank you, Feyre.
“He was territorial.”
The others voice their agreement before Cassian has a chance to speak–to defend himself from this defamation of character.
Not that he can defend himself.
He remembers that day all too well…
It’s the first Nesta goes to a bar with them. The first time she goes to a bar in a while, and she’s nervous. But she looks beautiful. So damn beautiful that he thinks he might suggest staying in. She has on a black dress with these tiny straps and a necklace that makes him want to trace her neck with his tongue until she’s mewling and soft and pliant. But she’s nervous, so he only kisses her forehead.
We don’t have to drink he says. I won’t drink either, he promises.
Cassian turns out to be a bold-faced liar.
He’s drunk by the time the first band plays. He keeps gobbling down the drinks. Nesta gets them for free. Martinis, vodka sodas, gin, and whiskey. All manners of shots. Every alcohol keeps floating her way. The males seem to think they only need to find the right one. The one Nesta prefers and they take it as a challenge. He remembers asking if she even needed their money all those months ago, and she only shrugs a shoulder. Haughty and much, much too beautiful.
Nesta offers to send them back, but Cassian gulps them down one by one before she can even call over the waitress. I can take it, he says.
Once again, Cassian is made a liar.
They have to carry him out of that bar. At some point, he remembers flying over the city as Rhys and Azriel chase him through the streets.
The only way they get him down is by Nesta calling for him. An easy trick, he thinks. If they asked him, they should have tried that first. Of course, he answers his mate when she calls.
When he meets her, crawling back with his wings drooping to the concrete, Nesta only opens her arms as if she wants him to hug her. Cassian hugs her. He… climbs on top of her, really.
But she combs her fingers through his hair and Cassian hunches over to lay his head on her shoulder and the next thing he knows… he’s lying in bed, a glass of water and some headache powder on the side table.
She’d hit that nerve in his neck.
Cassian wants to scoff just thinking about it.
“Where is Nesta anyway?”
The question has Cassian grinding his teeth, he can hear the noise in his ears. With fucking Tarquin.
“She’s out,” he says instead.
“Out where?”
“Out to museums,” He lists thinking of all the places Nesta enjoys. “Or picnics.” All the places that Nesta will smile at. “Or restaurants.” All places Nesta will bubble up with laughter, that she’ll blush with glee, that she’ll gaze at wistfully with that bastard Tarquin. “Or maybe romantic boat rides. The one in that fucking swan.”
Cassian doesn’t even know he grabs on to the throw pillow, but the next thing he knows the cushion is torn in half and the stuffing falls out like billowing snow.
The others look at him strangely, but it’s Feyre who takes a cautious step towards him, taking the pillow from his hands.
“And when will they be done?”
Cassian rolls his eyes, looking to the clock. “I meet them in a half an hour. We’re getting lunch,” he mocks in a voice that doesn’t sound anything like the High Lord of Summer.
Feyre hums in answer, her eyes widening innocently. Cassian stares in suspicion.
He watches as the others look to each other, too. Azriel to Mor. Mor to Rhys. Rhys to Feyre. Feyre to Amren. And then all of them look back to him.
It’s Mor who bounces brightly, “I want to go!”
“I’m going, too,” Rhys announces.
Feyre crosses her arms, “You can’t go. I’m going! Someone has to watch the baby.”
“Let Nuala and Cerridwen watch the baby! I’m supporting my brother.”
“I’m supporting my sister!”
“Oh, for cauldron’s sake,” Amren groans, “just bring the boy!”
Cassian frowns as they start packing up around him, yelling at each other for their coats and… baby carriers.
Amren only pauses to laugh at the look on his face.
“It could be worse, you know,” She says, her voice something she probably thinks sounds soft and comforting, “Tarquin could have already made some move. What do males say these days? Oh right, I want to get to know you or something equally as vomit inducing.”
Cassian simply picks up the throw pillow to his left and screams.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BONUS SCENE 1:
The evening of their first outing, Cassian can’t button his shirt. He should've taken that as his first sign that things would inevitably go wrong.
“Are the buttons winning?” Nesta asks lightly. Cassian huffs a curse, hiking the shirt over his head. It gets stuck around his neck and he groans out a response.
Fine, he thinks. I give up.
Nesta laughs at his slumping shoulders.
“It’s the wings,” He says, muffled through the cloth. His wings drift up and down as if huffing themselves, showing her that they too are thoroughly annoyed. “This shirt isn’t made for Illyrians.”
That’s a lie, but Nesta only hums.
“Well... as much as I like you topless and I do like you topless.” Cassian can feel her hands trailing up his ribs and he squirms at the ticklish touch. “I don’t think it would be appropriate for public outings.”
“You mean you’d be jealous,” He breaths. Nesta pulls the shirt down, unbuttoning and buttoning it again. His mate makes it seem far too easy, and she smirks up at him when the shirt is fully on. Her lips painted in red.
The fresh air is cool in his lungs without the noose of dress ware, and he winds his arms around her, breathing in her scent. “All those females looking. Males too. What would you do if they propositioned me?” He urges, holding her closer, bringing her hips to his. “Cassian, Cassian, take me in your arms.”
He dips her low as if they’ve finished some waltz, and lifts her high until her leg is around his waist. That’s when he notices the slit in her gown, running all the way up her thigh.
“They’ll chase me through the streets, you know. I’m a very hot commodity.”
Nesta doesn’t even laugh. In fact, she merely lifts her eyes, her expression blank in that very Nesta way of hers.
She fingers the collar of his shirt and Cassian can’t help but follow her hands. He thinks of every place those fingers can touch. “You wouldn’t be so difficult to catch. All it’d take is some buttons.”
Cassian roars with laughter and Nesta smiles at that. A small turn of her lips.
She turns back to the vanity, though he can’t say she’s not already perfect. He’s about to say so too, but that’s when he notices the dress.
It’s hugs her every curve... the way Cassian only wishes to hug her. The black brings out the gold in her hair, in her sun-kissed skin. There’s a slit, Cassian knows, and tiny, tiny straps.
Cassian moves towards her without a second thought. How anyone can think when they look at Nesta Archeron, he doesn’t know. He grasps her arms, dipping his head low. He places a reverent kiss on her shoulder and Nesta looks at him through the mirror, blinking up at him with those big, magnificent eyes.
They’ve never fucked in front of mirror before.
Cassian makes a note.
“You know, we can always skip this... thing. Who would even notice if we're gone?”
“Considering it’s for us, I’d say plenty.”
She says the words with enough disdain that Cassian frowns at the tone. She looks away as he catches her eyes.
“Do you not want to go?” He asks, dropping his hands.
“I want to get this night over with,” she says, with a certain bite that has him backtracking. He runs over the day and all things she can be mad at him for, but he finds nothing, so he doesn’t understand.
The night is for them.
To celebrate her more than anyone. There’s been so many celebrations for her these past months as if they’re making up for lost time. Cassian doesn’t mind. Nesta should be celebrated. And Nesta doesn’t seem to mind, though she’s rather quiet during those outings.
That’s not unusual.
He used to think Azriel was the most introverted of them all. But Nesta beats him by miles.
“Why--”
“I just don’t like that we always have these. Why can’t everyone just leave us alone?”
Cassian stares at her reddening skin. The way her eyes dart back and forth, trying not to look to him. His frown deepens at the way she hides.
He thought they were past this.
Cassian is the first person to admit that he doesn’t know Nesta. Not in the way he wants to and Nesta seldom tells him much. But he at least knows her well enough to know that when she gets upset, it’s rarely what she says it is.
So Cassian takes inventory.
They’re going to a get-together. They’ve done that before. They’re wearing formal clothes. They’ve done that before. They’re meeting the same people. Yes, that’s correct. The only thing that’s different is... the location?
“You have a problem with the restaurant,” he guesses.
Nesta merely lies her chin on her palm.
“It’s new... they have good food... so I hear. It’s got great music, which you like. It’s got a bar,” Cassian’s gaze whips to her, “Is it the bar?”
Nesta rolls her eyes, but he can see the way her cheeks flush a bright pink. The color softens something inside of him, makes him want to hug her and hold her and get rid of every bad thought in her head.
The bar. Of course. He sees the way she cringes at alcohol, the way she shifts in her seat when a dinner turns into an after party. She doesn’t even like most of their holidays for that reason, because they all get drunk and she sits in the corner not knowing what to do. Nesta hates being embarrassed.
She can drink if she wants, he tells her, it’s her choice. They won’t judge her for it, he affirms, but... Cassian can’t guarantee that and Nesta knows that’s a lie. Nesta doesn’t even touch liquor.
Cassian feels his chest start to sink and he must show it on his face, because she scoffs.
It’s bad enough she doesn’t want to go to the city most days. She’s told him it’s because she’s scared to face who she was, afraid that she’ll be back there soon enough. Cassian can’t reassure her well enough. We can face it together, he says. We can face it all. But it’s been baby steps and these outings are the only times she pushes her limits.
Cassian shifts her around, laying his hands on her cheeks, rubbing at the heated skin. “We don’t have to go if you don’t want.”
“I don’t want to be a coward.”
Cassian shakes his head, “you’re not going to be one if you go and you’re not going to be one if you stay.”
Nesta sighs, and Cassian kisses her forehead because he doesn’t know what else to do. He doesn’t know how to instill in Nesta that she’s the strongest, bravest person he knows. How does he convince her of a truth that’s so obvious?
She isn’t going to change her mind that much he knows, but damn him if he let’s her wallow alone.
“I won’t drink,” He offers, “We can play cards, dance a little... I promise I’ll try not to step on your toes again.”
“I want you to enjoy yourself,” She says, her lips pouting in that way that makes him want to kiss her nose and her cheek and every place that he can touch. “To have fun.”
“You are fun and I enjoy myself plenty with you.”
Little does Cassian know that the enjoyment of the night is him knocking back barrels of drinks, stripping to his underwear, and running head first through the streets.
To be continued...
MC wants to meet some Creatures - Obey Me! Brother’s - Fluff
Gn!mc asks one of the brothers to take them to find a magical creature. This is for the main brothers, but if people want one for the newly datables just ask! I would love to do more <3
Lucifer
Is Cerberus not enough? We can go down and pet him if you like
It’s going to take some convincing to get this trip to happen. Needlessly risking the human's life just to see something neat? I think not
But your eyes were so big when you asked… fine. He’ll find something worthwhile that isn’t going to get you killed
Prep for the trip is Lucifer covering you in about 50 different protection spells.
Then you’ll be flying. Hold on tightly and try not to look directly into the wind. That’s not good for your human eyes. Lucifer’s arms are firm around you as his wings stretch out. With a push you’re off. Being lifted from the ground purely from the strength of his wings? It’s an undescribable feeling.
Soon you are out of the Devildom and flying above the Hell Wilds. A vast landscape of all sorts of terrors. From red grasses that could cut through bone, or the vast tar fields that bubble toxic gas. There is a beauty to it. Especially if you are safe above it all.
A large canyon comes into sight. This canyon was cut by Lotan’s first rampage, and where Levi made Lotan his pet.” Lucifer begins to descend. Swooping down in a tight spiral to slip into the canyon.
It takes a moment for your eyes to adjust to the darkness. Then you can see something glowing. Many somethings glowing. They crawl over the canyon sides. They are nothing like you’ve seen before, but if you were to pin down to something earth like… they are most similar to sea slugs? But they have legs and bright, piercing eyes. With beautiful fins running down their back. Each looks to be a droplet of a rainbow.
“Gems left in the earth can collect enough magic to come to life.” They have no name, but they could fit in the palm of your hand. Tho please don’t touch they are highly condensed magical creatures and could shred your human body without meaning too.
Mammon
“Can I trust you?” He looks at you with surprising serious. Though he’s scratching his chin which makes it a little hard to take him seriously. When you say Of Course, Mammon quickly cracks into a grin. “Alright, give me a day, but-” He just starts nodding and runs off. Delighted with his own idea too much to tell you more
The Next day you meet Mammon outside the house of lamentation. He is already in his demon form and has a large sack in his hands. Which appears to be full of weird trinkets and a whole lot of grimm.
Where are you going? The Hell Wilds. Which is… so unhelpful because the Hell wilds are nearly infinite.
Mammon scoops you up bridle style, and then you’re off into the air. Mammon cannot stop smiling, “I haven’t taken anyone here before.” He mainly says this too himself. But looks at you with so much delighted you can’t help but blush.
This would be a much longer flight if Mammon wasn’t so good at using the air currents to his advantage. Diving to catch the updraft that send you both rocketing through the air. You’re at not risk of danger. Mammon wouldn’t let that happen to you, but it does feel like a roller coaster. When you level out, you’re facing a dark mountain. It cuts into the air with jagged certainty. Mammon lands halfway up its sides.
“She doesn’t like it when I fly into the nest. So we’ll have to walk to the rest.” If you ask any questions about what is happening. His response is a grin. “You know how Crows and I get along? Well… this is where that started.”
The mountain is only partial rock. The rest is ash, twigs and mud stuck together to keep the mountain from falling apart. Crows and ravens sit perched along the cliff sides. Some crows come flying to the mountain with fresh mud to repair parts of the mountain. The dark birds watch you and Mammon with intense, unrelenting eyes. Mammon smiles to them, and carries on with ease.
The path winds up to a crack in the side of the mountain. Mammon gestures for you to wait outside while he walks in first. You can hear something massive stir. The rustle of feathers and the scratch of claws against stone. Then Mammon pokes his head out and beckons you in.
Curled within the mountain is a great beast. It’s hard to tell one part from another because she is massive, and her dark feathers blend into each other. Her head is stuffed into the bag Mammon brought. When she sits up, she has a golden cup in her maw. The Crow Drake is stunning and terrifying. Her eyes are molten red, and her teeth cut through the gold.
The Crow Drake is the matriarch from all the crows and ravens in Hell. When Mammon was young, he fled to this mountain and was given a drake’s comforts. As well as his first crow familiar.
She reaches up to get a good look at you. Her beak pressing against you. Nudging you around and bringing her eyes right up to yours. Then she sits back and let's out a satisfied sqwaks. Mammon is about to say something when the Crow Drake leans over and picks him up by the collar of his jacket. Mammon is plopped onto her soft back, and she begins preening his hair. Making little noises every once in a while. “I know I used too much conditioner, stop harassing me” Mammon is blushing fiercely.
Levi
“Gah! Why can’t Lotan be more gentle.” Levi really wants you to meet Lotan, but it’s highly likely that Lotan would try to kill you the moment you met. All the photos of Lotan have been just… blue scales, or a big eyeball.
But Lotan is one of many Sea serpents. Actually, there are all sorts of magical creatures in the sea, and Levi is going to tell you about All of them. While he tries to figure out how to make sure you can breathe underwater.
“I am not allowed near the merfolk palace though, so... Can’t take you there.” If pushed on the matter, he will turn red and stammer about how Lotan just wanted a snack.
He found a spell! He’ll need Solomon’s help, but it should give you 24 hours of breathing underwater. Now it’s time to go into his tank.
Did you assume that he just had a normal wall sized fish tank? Of course not. The back wall has been turned into a convenient portal to The Ocean. It’s not an earth ocean, and hell doesn’t actually have a lot of clean water. This Ocean is an in between realm that connects to the abstract of earth’s waters, and all the magic that one could possibly find in those depths.
At first Levi gets distracted showing you all the fish. Look at the coral! And the trigger Fish! Oh, what a pretty anemone. He’s so caught up in showing you around that he’s not even embarrassed to be holding your hand the whole time.
Levi is such a strong swimmer he barely even notices dragging you along with him. His tail easily propels you both forward, and with great agility he can swim through the coral reefs. Then you hit the edge. Suddenly there is a vast nothing below you. Light fades below.
Down you go! It would be more unsettling if you didn’t have leviathan right besides you. Who is practically vibrating with his excitement. Underwater Levi looks so much more comfortable. Moving with such ease and without any hesitation.
You can feel the water begin to shift as something Massive approaches. Levi pauses and let's out a trill. Which is met by a deep noise that rattles your bones.
Red is a hard color to see in the deep ocean. Not enough light in that wave length can reach that far down. So at first it’s just a dark dot in the distances. Then it’s brilliant red head comes surging towards you. The water rushes around as the sea serpent begins to swim in a spiral around you and Leviathan. Leviathan is beaming and spinning around to keep up with the Serpent’s face. Letting out happy trills sporadically.
Eventually the Sea Serpent settles down and lets its body relax out. The Serpent stretches out so far that it’s back fines look so small. Yet their face is larger than a bus. The Serpent looks at you for a long while, and then it flicks it head upward. Which makes Leviathan blush a vibrant red.
She approves
Satan
Satan needs two weeks to prepare! But he has an idea. How do you feel about sewers?
“The Devildom aqueducts are actually one of the cleanest places in hell. It’s really an astounding work of engineering-” he goes on for a while about all the intricate workings. Seems there is a lot of plant filtering the waters, as well as creatures that can digest what the plants can’t process.
Satan gives you one of his books of magic. “I am their friend, but if you want them to accept your presence, it’s best to provide a gift. To show you mean well.” Unlike the others, Satan will give you a heads-up on whom you’re about to meet. Though, he gives the explanation as you’re walking towards the sewer’s entrance.
“Their name is Elos, and they are one of the oldest chimera’s alive. They were created in less than stellar circumstances, but handled it rather well.” By eating their creator. “Now they used the leftover alchemical equipment to do their own studying, as well as keep the aqueduct ecosystem in balance.”
The entrance looks like any other sewer grate in a city. Satan can easily move the heavy cover off, and watches as you begin to climb down the ladder. Satan closes the cover as he starts his descent. The sewers are Massive. The tunnel is about 20 feet wide and 20 tall. A perfect circle, except for the walk ways going along the side. A sort of seaweed is growing at the bottom of the waterways. Little fish duck in and out of the waving reeds. Further in more plants grow along the side. Some areas have full banks that cover the waterways. You can also see long claw marks running along the sides of the tunnel. As well as the residue of a recent magical explosion. “Hmm, looks like Elos got annoying company.” Satan smirks at the blast marks.
One of the original designers of the sewers was the grand wizard who made Elos. So there is a laboratory at the dead center of the sewer system. If one were to look at the blueprints, you’d be able to see a magic circle drawn by the tunnels. Well almost one. Those plans were later worked over to fix the functionality of the sewer system for the devildom. Elos didn’t want to do any city wide magic, so they aren’t really upset about it.
Outside of Elos’s laboratory is a large blue door. Painted on it are bright yellow runes that start to shimmer green as Satan approaches. Satan knocks, and it’s a full three minutes before the sound of the door unlocking. With effort, it swings inwards, and the smell of chemicals and herbs assaults your nostrils.
Satan goes about the polite introduction. Leading you into the laboratory, but it’s hard to pay attention. There are so many strange machines littered across the room, and Elos themself is a feat to understand. Their face is divided into three parts, one of a bull, one of a woman, and the other of an ape. They have large arms with hands that drag across the floor. Their fingers are thin claws of a bird. Chest comes from some great lizard not from earth. Hide legs appear to be lion like, and its tail is an arched scorpion stinger. Elos looks at you with deep eyes.
When you present the spell book Satan gave you. Elos sneers at you but takes the book. “A gift provided from someone else is weaker… but will do.” her voice is a dry and raspy. Speaking with vocal cords never crafted for such intricate language.
Asmodeous
“Want to meet some of the lovelies that help me torment souls?!”
They’re the creature Asmodeous has easy access to, so I recommend saying yes if you want to go with him
“They’re for a very specific time of person. The sort who think their beauty makes up for all the harm they caused.” A dark look smolders in Asmo’s eyes, but when he looks at you, it softens. Back to his normal bright heart eyes.
Asmo summons a cab to drive you both to the outskirts of the devildom. To… a ranch? Soft green meadows stretch out as far as you can see. Wooden fences mark the edge of the road. When you look close, you can see sigils carved into the posts.
Out in the field you can see them. Powerful horses with glimmering spiraled horns. Some are pure white with long wavy mains, but they are as diverse as any herd of horses.
“My beautiful unicorns,” Asmo leans over the fences to get a better look at them. “You’ll get to have a closer look at those in the stables right now. They won’t be too happy about being locked up, but they’re so wonderful just to look at.”
These unicorns come from more of a… vicious tradition. Their diets are completely carnivorous and with a strong preference for humans.
While you enter the stables, Asmo explains that these stables are more for necessary check-ups, and not where the unicorns stayed. They had their own dens somewhere in the meadows. Asmo hadn’t cared to find it, but it is out there.
So the unicorns that are in are here to have a thorough cleaning by one of the stable works. No you cannot help I’m afraid. These Unicorns would not be able to tell you apart from the souls they are encouraged to feast upon. All the other folk who work at the stable are non-human, and they still get bite. What’s worse is when a Unicorn decided to charge.
To make sure none of that happens, you’ll be safely on the other side of the door. Even though you can’t get close. You still can see the Unicorns very well. They are beautiful creatures. The shortest is still taller than the average horses. With eyes set more forward on their skull, and sharp angular bodies. Their legs are less brittle. With hooves that are divined into three sharp angles.
While most of the unicorns with in the stable seem antsy to leave. They all give their own greeting to Asmo. A dappled gray is the most affectionate. Letting Asmo pet the sides of their face, and rubbing up against Asmo’s head. It looks at you with curiosity. Sniffs the air and whinnies. “I know,” Asmo coos. “They are very tasty looking, but you can’t have any. I want this human to stick around.” The Unicorn snorts and flicks it tail in annoyance.
Beelzebub
His eyes light up when you ask to meet some magical creatures. “We won’t have to go too far… but we should wait till the house is quiet.” Que Mammon sprinting through the hallways trying to out run Lucifer. “They don’t like the ruckus.”
Beel asks you to meet him in the kitchen once everyone else has gone to their rooms. When you enter you find him setting out a tray with a dish of milk, honey, and some crackers. He then hands you a block of cheese. “Cut up some cubes of this.” and so you do. Beel doesn’t take any food from the tray, but he does rummage in the fridge while you get the cheese ready.
Once it’s all ready, Beel sets the tray in the middle of the counter. He then pulls out a little golden bell, and rings it. There is a beat of silence, and then doors you had never seen before open. One door is tucked into the wall trim, another in the backspace, and a third underneath the cabinets. Who comes tumbling out are small fuzzy creatures. They walk on their hind legs, and have large flat faces. Almost like a bat, but their eyes are old and wise. They are dressed in hand stitched clothes made from old table clothes, towels, or other scraps of fabric they could steal without much fuss.
“Who is this?!” One of them points pocket knife at you. “My friend,” Beel says and when he looks at you he can’t help but smile. “Hmm… did your friend cut this cheese?” Beel nods. “Next time make them smaller. Our children will struggle to hold these.”
These are House Brownies. A type of fae that can be found in most loving homes. They are a people of high standards but with over whelming big hearts. Beel is the main reason the house brownies live within the house of lamentation. No one else remembers to set out food for them. So no one else gets the help of the Brownies. Beel however often finds that his chores have been done for him, and snacks are often left on his bed side table. Small snack since the brownies can’t carry too much, but he deeply appreciates it.
Brownies are some of the easiest fae to talk with. The worst you can do is hurt their pride, but they are quick to accept earnest apologies. Not the sort of fae who will steal your name and trick you into dancing yourself to death… well… There have been a couple brownies who have done that. But the people were true assholes.
One of the brownies who is dress in a floral dress comes up to you. They give you a once over, and then start to climb up the back of your shirt. Now on your shoulder, the Brownie sniffs your face and pokes your cheeks. The Brownie’s whiskers tickle, and it’s hard not to react. But their fur is so soft, and they smell like honey and clove.
“You should have brought this one sooner.” The floral Brownie says in a sing-song voice. “They can bring us human snacks, yes?” “I want a candy!” Another brownie cheers. “Are human homes as noisy as demon homes?” “What is a cat? We hear the mean one speak of them, but never have seen them.” “Is cat friend or foe to the brownie?” Another brownie is now climbing you. This one decided to perch on the top of your head. “Human smells nice. Keep them Beel.”
Belphegor
“Okay, but you’re paying for their snacks.”
Which turned out to be nearly ten pounds of red meat. You’re also the one who has to carry the bag as you walk into the properly sketchy parts of the Devildom city. Belphegor looks as nonchalant as normal. Except for when he needs to glare at any other Demon who might start making eyes at you.
Now it’s into the dark alleys you go. Winding past business and into tight brick alley ways. The surrounding buildings seem to tower up through the sky. Blocking the darkness above. There is even a hint of sulfur in the air.
“Alright, set the meat down.” Belphegor stops at the intersection of four alley ways. It makes a small circle in the middle. The ground is dark and stained from years of murk. Moss grows up the walls, and blooms in the cracks. You set the meat down and then back up next to Belphegor. “Are you nervous?” He grins a little and then brings his fingers to his lips and whistles Loud.
You can hear them running. Many heavy feet charging down the paths. They’re coming from every direction, and now hear their panting breath. Growling and snarls as they try to be the first to reach their meal.
If you thought earthly wolves are big. You are blown away by the size of hellhounds. They keep their heads low but still stand at least three feet tall. Their teeth are as black as their fur, and they have barbed tails that whip back and forth in a frenzy. The Hell hounds are at first completely distracted by the food left out for them.
“When they’re not hungry, they’re really sweet.” Belphegor crosses his arms and leans back against the wall. Patiently waiting for the Hell Hounds to calm down. “They’re in the city to hunt down pests. Lucifer see’s them as exterminators,” One of the Hell Hounds now trots over to Belphegor. It rams its head into his stomach, demanding attention. Belphie laughs a little and starts to scratch its ears. Now content that it’s getting love. The Hell Hound eyes you. First a sniff, and then it tries to bite your clothes. “Hey,” Belphie says in a stern voice, and that’s all the Hound needed. You’re not food? Well then you must be friend too.
The message is spread through the rest of the pack, and soon you are surrounded. The Hell Hounds breath is rancid, and they will not stop trying to give you kisses.
Two of the hounds manage to get Belphie on the ground, and sit on top of him. Belphie’s face is flushed, and he only tries to get them off half-heartedly. Then accepts their cuddles and closes his eyes. “They’re not allowed in the house. So I come here a lot… you can join me next time if you want.”
Oooo oh! The post you just made is so interesting! Can you do a version with how things go down in the supervillain universe? Like all the dorm heads call Yuu Prefect and Yuu freaks out internally as to how these younger version of the supervillains know their secret?
@ectopus said: ok now i wanna know more on whats happening with older Yuu with the dorm leaders from twisted wonderland
Anonymous said: Finding out your crush is also your enemy sometimes ally is amazing funny! Reporter Yuu gots their hands full with these teenagers and twenty-year-old.
Yuu the Reporter isn’t exactly happy to hear frantic banging on their apartment door late at night. Unsurprised, but not happy.
“I know I told you all I have the 6AM shift tomorrow.” They grouse loudly as they go to open it. “So I don’t care what amazing scheme it is you want to kidnap me for, it is not my pro—”
They stop short when they see what looks like younger versions of Tsunotaro, Charon, and...is that Viper-san? The aide to Kalim Al-Asim?
The trio are huddled together miserably on their doorstep, all dressed in similar school uniforms. Tsunotaro and Charon have a blazer and a hoodie held over their heads, as if that will in any way disguise them.
“This just became my problem, didn’t it.” The reporter says glumly to the three...teenagers? They look like teenagers, Great Seven they’re so lanky and baby-faced, it’s making Yuu feel old.
Teenage Charon lets out a squeak, the edges of his hair flaring hot pink under his hoodie. Teenage Tsunotaro is just staring at them, wide-eyed and mute. Teen Viper-san swallows and says “You think?” in what is probably supposed to be a sardonic manner, but the effect is kinda ruined by his voice cracking halfway through.
It says a lot about Yuu’s life that they just open the door wider and stand aside to let the teenagers shuffle in with only a weary, “Age ray or alternate selves?”
Of course, it can never just be two or three afflicted with the supervillains.
Malleus, Idia, and Jamil are in the middle of explaining how they each came to in different lairs, running into each other on their way to the only recognizable name in the lair’s databases and running away from the screaming townsfolk in Malleus and Idia’s cases, when there’s another violent pounding at the door.
The reporter has to get Jamil to put his...magic wand? thing away before they can go see who it is. Yuu’s not sure how much damage that thing can do, but they’d rather their apartment not get turned into the scene of a brawl again, please and thank you.
The teenager insists on hovering though, as though Yuu is not a grown ass adult who can open doors on their own and not shatter like glass. He promptly gets bowled over by the three other uniformed teenagers and young adult (?) that burst in the moment the handle turns.
The younger King slams the door shut behind them, tail lashing up a storm and ears nearly flat on his head, a growl still rumbling in his chest. The teenage Octo Dealer’s glasses have been snapped clean in half. Yuu still doesn’t get why younger versions of Dr. Rosehearts and Schoenheit-san are with them, but the pair of civilians look understandably shaken.
They are all covered in glitter.
The reporter recognizes that look well. “A RSA hero found you, didn’t they?”
Schoenheit-san sneezes on glitter as he scoffs, “Hero? An overgrown manchild courting indecent exposure and awful fashion sense is more like it!”
White Neige it is then.
The reporter goes to get the first aid kit and lint roller to begin patching up the high schoolers like they’ve done countless times for the minions and supervillains before them.
So Yuu’s little apartment is now filled with high schoolers. High schoolers who are having some trouble absorbing the fact that they’re in a world where four of them are highly feared supervillains, and three of them are hapless civilians. All of them seem to be united in glaring at Grim when he strolls out of the reporter’s bedroom and asks how they all got so small.
By now, Yuu’s phone has begun blowing up with messages from the Game Night group and the other minions asking where their bosses are.
The reporter texts back that they have no idea where Snake Charmer, Poison Queen, or Royal Flush are, but they do snap a picture to send in a group message of the teenage boys who are currently bickering over who gets to sit on the couch versus the floor, and whether Leona lying down on it and taking up the whole thing is “fair” to everyone else.
Uproar in the chat.
Lilia is squeeing over how small and cute Malleus is, lookit him in his little fancy school uniform!! Sebek is both joining in with this praise, and terrified about how they can turn the young master back to his old self! Silver is asleep because he has that luxury, the lucky bastard.
Ruggie is disappointed that his boss doesn’t have anything embarrassing that could potentially serve as blackmail material to get himself a pay raise. Jack wants to arm wrestle young Leona if he’s still there tomorrow and see who would win.
Floyd and Jade want to come over to pick on Azul! Yuu says no! They say they’re coming anyway!!
Ortho is coming too!! His nii-san is now younger and needs him and there’s nothing Yuu can do about it!!
Lilia heavily implies that they all can wait until tomorrow or else.
Suddenly Yuu is no longer anticipating any more house guests tonight. Yay?
Waterboy’s weirdly excited at the picture of Jamil, and Huntsman keeps rhapsodizing about Vil’s youthful beauty, but they’re both a little odd so the reporter purposely thinks nothing of it.
Just like they think nothing of Trey’s oddly monosyllabic mother-henning over the young Riddle. He’s much smaller than the other boys—he probably just set of Trey’s big brother instincts is all. And if the rest of the Heartslaybul minions have gone strangely quiet too? They’re likely just busy searching for Royal Flush. Nothing to read into here, no sir.
Yuuken tells Yuu to call if they need any extra food or blankets for their guests or anything. He’ll try to convince their boss’s boss that Yuu’s taken ill tomorrow. For a moment, all seems right with the world.
Then Azul calls for the “prefect” to come settle the couch argument.
Yuu promptly drops the cup they were about to pour lemon tea into.
They wave off Malleus and Riddle’s concern, Azul’s apologies, and Jamil’s attempts to clear up the shards up for them, saying they were just...startled at being addressed like that.
The reporter explains that, while the students’ version of Yuu might be known as a prefect back at their school, here The Prefect is the name of a...controversial vigilante. One who foils the villainous schemes of the top seven supervillains in the city, and usually takes quite the beating while doing so. The supervillains’ ire even extends to their friend and cameraman, Yuuken, who’s only suspected of being the Prefect.
Yuu likes being on good enough terms with the supervillains that they know even if they get kidnapped, they won’t get seriously hurt. If they or any of their minions were to be given reason, however flimsy, to believe the reporter was The Prefect...
Well. Yuu doesn’t like to think about what would happen then.
The high schoolers keep shooting Yuu looks that suggest they don’t buy this flimsy explanation, but they let the subject drop mercifully, turning back to serving tea and dividing up who will be sleeping where.
Another argument erupts when the reporter offers to sleep on the floor so one or two of them can share their bed. Leona and Malleus come close to almost burning the apartment down before Yuu takes a page out of Uncle Divvy’s book and breaks out the rolled up newspaper to restore order.
Later that night, after it’s all settled and the students are all fast asleep, Yuu the Reporter has a panic attack in the privacy of their bathroom.
They don’t know how much longer they can keep this up.
Hello can I have head canons for the brothers and dateables? What if their s/o gains a demon form due to being in pacts?
Oooooh, this is a fun one! For the brothers, I basically wrote it as though the human had developed traits specifically like their own; idk why, that's just how I saw it, kinda thought it'd be cute 😅
The Brothers And Undateables With An S/O Who Gains A Demon Form
— Lucifer
He's... fascinated. He saw his formerly angelic brothers become demons, but to see a human become a demon? It's unheard of.
His first concern is them. Are they okay? Are they hurt? Are they scared? He wants to help them in any way he can, of course.
If they are okay... then he can't help smiling as he lets his fingers trail through his lover's newfound wings, so very like his own.
Considering what their pact with him represents... that they're his, forever... he can't help but love the sight. It's like a physical representation of their bond.
He'll always think they're perfect, no matter what they look like or what they are, and he makes sure they know it.
— Mammon
"...A'right, pal, now just who the hell are you and what did you do with--"
...It takes him a second, but he realises midsentence that it's actually his human he's talking to.
He's so impressed! He'll be full of praises, not at all subtly blushing brightly at the sight, looking them all over and poking at their wings and asking questions...
He's absolutely gonna teach them how to fly! He's got so many ideas on how they could extort money from people by pestering them from the sky...
If MC was worried, they won't have time to be anymore: this man is in his true form and grasping their hand and bringing them outside because flying lessons start now!
— Leviathan
His partner grew a tail like him? ... oh yikes why does it look so cute on them, oh he hopes he's not blushing, oh no he's absolutely blushing--
He just assures them that nothing could make them stop being amazing in his eyes, so they don't have to worry about that.
He'll give them advice for life with a tail... protip: they shouldn't lay on their back with it out, that gets sore fast... also, don't accidentally trip over it, he's done that--
He will ask to pet it. Look, he can't help it; they're so much like a cute anime character with that tail!
Through lots of blushing, he'll take his true form and gently wrap his tail around their own, giving them such an adoring smile.
— Satan
His partner has grown horns? And a tail? ...Are they alright?
Like Lucifer, his main concern will really be his partner's safety and wellbeing... after all, growing body parts so suddenly sounds painful.
But once he knows they're okay, his curiosity comes out. He's absolutely going to take them to the library, having so much fun pouring over books for an explanation.
If MC is unhappy in any way, he'll take his true form and wrap his tail around their own, smiling sweetly as he assures them that they're always perfect.
...also he'll be really curious to see if their tail flicks like a cat's when they're angry or excited--
— Asmodeus
Uwaaaaa! They look just like him! Except... except even cuter, somehow! This is incredible!
MC better brace themself, because there is now an Asmo with his hands caressing their wings, admiring their markings, all over.
Out comes the D.D.D. because it's picture time, baby! He'll take so many pictures of them, selfies together, lots of Devilgrammable shots...
He'll absolutely be talking to them about outfits that would accentuate their newfound additions!
It'll be hard for them to feel too bad with Asmo around; his excitement is infectious, and he is very excited about this.
— Beelzebub
Oh... is it his fault that they look like this? Because he made a pact with them? He's so sorry...
If MC assures him that everything's okay, he'll brighten up. He just really doesn't want to have affected them badly...
He'll ask if he can touch their wings, because he's curious. Smiling, he'll offer to let them touch his in return, too.
...He's really curious to find out if their appetite has grown any with these changes, though.
Brace yourself MC, because it's time for a dinner date with the Avatar of Gluttony himself!
— Belphegor
"...Oh wow. So it's true: couples who are together for a while really do start to look alike."
Ignore his snark and jokes, MC, he's just Like That...
Honestly, he won't really mind, as long as MC's okay. They're still the person he loves, even if they grew a tail and some horns.
...He'll take delight in bothering them, though. Lazily tickling around their horns, batting at the fluffy part of their tail like a cat with a toy...
He takes his true form and playfully challenges them to see whose tail is longer. (As long as they can do it while cuddling and not moving very much, of course.)
— Diavolo
Oh! A human developing demon traits...? He thinks MC is fascinating and wonderful regardless, but this is something he's never seen before!
He lifts them up in his big strong arms to examine them all over, so so curious to see all of the changes.
Oh, but this might be a painful process, right? Should he get Barbatos to wait on them? He'll get Barbatos to wait on them.
"Who would have thought my human exchange student would end up becoming a demon, hm?"
He's just so supportive; like a big, loving, doting puppy who just wants them to know they're wonderful in his eyes.
— Barbatos
His powers mean that he knows a great deal of things are going to happen before they do, and this is no exception.
He's come prepared: tea and all their favourite treats in case they're upset, medical supplies in case they're hurting...
He's sure to let them know that, human or demon or anything else, he loves them just the same no matter what.
Since he knew about this beforehand... honestly, not much changes in their relationship at all.
But as always, he's loving and caring and right there to tend to their every need.
— Solomon
...Solomon is perplexed. He's been alive for so long and made pacts with so many demons; why hasn't this happened to him?
He's immediately pulling out all his sorcerer tomes and magic books, trying to find an explanation...
Beyond the confusion, though, he really doesn't mind at all.
He tells MC that they look very nice with their newfound additions, complimenting them and admiring them...
"...Say, darling. If you're a demon now... and I'd wager you're a powerful one, at that... how about you make a pact with me~?"
— Simeon
Oh. Oh lord have mercy on him, he's in love with a demon...
His only concern is that his superiors in the Celestial Realm might forbid him from seeing his partner after this development.
But make no mistake, he's choosing MC! Even if he has to run from the other angels forever, he doesn't want to leave them!
...They may have to calm him down with a firm hug and a kiss or two. Please forgive him, he means well.
He knows demons aren't all bad, so he isn't otherwise concerned... besides, his partner will always be perfect to him, no matter what they look like or how they change.
World Building Wednesday!~Yokaifell
🌼One of my personal favorites was chosen this week and I am so excited! It was a tie between Wiccafell and this and I just decided to do a little coin toss. I am happy to also announce that the ideas in Yokaifell will also be appearing in a more original form in the Souly Damned Universe. I will talk more about that on SD Saturday!
Yokaifell AU
Yokai Masterlist:
[Red] Ryutsuki (Ryou) 龍月- Kitsune (Kitsune Ebi- Shou & Rin)
[Boss] Kuro 黒- Gashadokuro
Doomfanger- Maneki neko (a variation of the bakeneko this kind brings good luck and fortune which I thought would be cute for the brothers. Hilariously Doomy was with Boss before he died coughs. Doomy is kind of like that cricket in Mulan supposed to be lucky but... questionable.)
Flowey: I am unsure if I am planning on putting Flowey in this or just have him as Asriel. Either way, he would most likely resemble the higanbana. These are also Red’s flower of choice, which is…ironic if you know the language of flowers.
The Dreemurrs: (this is a hard one. There are no Yokai as far as I can recall that are goat like, however there are some good candidates that could work. I have a few in mind right now and that is the kotobuki, hakutaku, shisa, Kirin or even the baku.
Undyne: Uni nyobo
Alphys: Honengyo (This is kind of the “Godzilla” idea she would just be mini XD)
Muffet: Jorogumo
Grillby: Onibi (this is a strange one because he would have to be a combination of onibi for this to work but don’t worry I am on it!)
Gerson: Kappa/ Genbu (due to his wisdom)
*{The lesser monsters would be a variation of yokai not exactly pertaining to their UT counterparts unless I can make that connection. The Underground/ Underworld, in this case, it basically the spirit realm so it’s not really necessary. They are not exactly trapped like in the original.}*
Main Plot Synop: Frisk is a foreigner trying to start a new life across the world in Japan. I am still trying to pick a possible location in Japan but that is a minor detail. I will say that I would like it to be a little more secluded. It is also modern day (I settled on Izumo). The people she moves to live among tell Frisk of their traditions and stories but her being from the West she has a hard time understanding. Frisk is told not to stay out too late and wander the nearby forest but hey who listens to reason? She ends up getting lost, alone, and afraid. That is until a series of flame like lights presumably show her the way back to the town. This happens a few times but she becomes more and more curious by them until they lead her deeper into the forest. She comes upon the entrance of an abandoned shrine stopping before a Torii Gate as the lights disappear. These are kitsunebi by the way. Only when she is hesitant to pass through it do they appear on the opposite side.
She ends up being startled by a white haired human that seems to have just appeared out of thin air. He tries to speak to her but she barely understands the language if only a few words. In frustration the stranger steals a kiss from the shell shocked human girl only for her to suddenly be able to understand what he is saying. A still highly confused Frisk ends up learning that he is in fact a demon or rather her interpretation since she is from the West.
It turns out that in order to give her the ability for her to understand him a dose of his magic was required changing the physical makeup of her soul causing it to become desirable to other hungry yokai that roam both the spirit realm as well as the night. Not believing his claim and rather angry at his sudden advance she storms off heading back toward the village. She begins to see more than she should as spirits appear out of the woodwork.
An oni appears in front of her ready to devour the poor unsuspecting human in which she ends up running back to the gate in order to avoid the giant monster. At first Ryou is not interested in saving the human girl but it is his fault that she has ended up in this situation. He saves her but not before she ends up accidentally running through the Torii Gate attempting to dodge an attack. The beast follows and Frisk ends up trapped in the spirit realm when the monster destroys the gateway. Kuro, Ryou’s older brother makes quick work of the beast.
The rest of the story revolves around Frisk trying to return home which requires a journey since a human does not belong in their realm and the gate to “leave” is on the opposite side of the realm. It is incredibly dangerous for someone like her to be there so she ends up in disguise with the help of Grillby and Ryou. Ryou is a kitsune so he is able to create the perfect disguise adding more magic to her soul to fool it into becoming a yokai temporarily. He is surprised to find she is the same kind as him, a kitsune.
Their journey takes them all the way across the spirit realm to find another gate and on the way they run into a colorful cast of characters. Some are helpful spirits. Others are man eating demons that are looking for a delicious human soul to devour. At first Frisk is content staying with the brothers but a human does not belong in their realm and that causes complications.
Yokai Lore/ Spirit Realm world:
The spirit realm is a dangerous place that few humans have ever set their eyes on. It the world between. A space that is home to various yokai. Humans cannot naturally see spirits as the modern setting has diminished the humans that still believe in them. They are not trapped but rather there is a hierarchy that is established. The more powerful the yokai the more they are able to interact with the human realm.
Hierarchy brief explanation (restrictions and interactions):
Servants of the gods- Yokai that can interact with the human world during the day or whenever they see fit. They are messengers for their respective deities. They are not known to be troublesome or mischievous.
Kitsune- A more rare type of yokai that can shift its appearance at will but mostly represented by that of a multi tailed fox. Some of them are servants of the gods but those who have no alignment can walk among the living during the day for a duration of time. When the night comes they can walk freely and interact with humans as they see fit. They are mostly known for luring humans away with kitsune ebi or fox fire.
“Boss” Yokai- Yokai gain their status by either specific species or their prestige. That can either be obtained by LV gain or doing favors for the gods. Some are hostile and some are passive it depends on the encounter. They can walk freely during the night without hindrance but unlike the two prior they cannot take form during the day.
“Lesser?” Yokai- Yokai that are relatively weak and unable to hold a physical form in the human realm. They can move objects and possibly possess humans but they have no ability to interact on a substantial level. They can be seen by some humans as little dancing and vanishing lights. They can rarely pass the barrier as is.
Lost souls- Lost spirits that wander between realms. They cannot interact with humans but can be seen from time to time. They are what the west consider the typical ghost.
Human Struggles Info {Plot}:
A human does not belong in their realm which also means that the world is also an enemy. The power of the soul plays a huge factor in this as weak souls are more susceptible to the world influence. There are three different outcomes that are possible for a human if they end up trapped in the spirit realm.
Dinner is served- A large number of yokai are known for their man eating tendencies finding human souls and flesh a kind of delicacy. Some are beasts that kill for pleasure but humans worst outcome is being eaten or killed.
You’re one of us now- A strong human soul slowly can be changed. The soul decides what kind of yokai that humans can become or will become. It is entirely possible that most of the yokai were once human but it is unknown. They are usually lesser yokai or spirits.
Lost soul- What the title implies. A soul unable to remember who they were. They wander for the rest of eternity searching for answers they will never receive. They are miserable creatures that pull others into their fate. Their depression is infectious and anyone already questioning themselves could easily find themselves among their ranks. They are not malicious only confused and desperate.
Symptoms of becoming a Lost Soul:
Confusion
Memory loss
Random emotional outburst/response
Physical weakness/fatigue
Relationship {Plot}:
Ryou and Frisk become close for a reason that they are both unsure about. They could be soul mates or his magic that is embedded in her soul begins to spread making her have feelings for him. Either way her love for him never wavers. A human can never fall in love with a yokai. It is not only forbidden but also very dangerous. *whoops* Their soul bond only grows stronger as their outward feelings increase. They spend the night together not understanding the consequences of that kind of action.
Unfortunately, Frisk begins to show symptoms that her soul is not powerful enough for this world and she begins to lose herself and forget. In desperation Ryou and Kuro make the decision to travel all the way to the end of realm to get her back to the human realm. When they get there she has a choice. She can stay and become a lost soul for the rest of eternity or leave and forget everything about them. Since Ryou and Frisk are soul bound she would feel a loneliness for the rest of her life unable to understand why. It is like losing a part of yourself. It hurts but she chooses the second option returning to the human world a little bit changed from before.
Epilogue {Plot}:
Though Frisk has forgotten about her soul mate and her time spent in the spirit realm she still has these feelings. She finds herself spending more and more time peacefully sitting by the gate or in the forests surrounding her home. It is calming and peaceful for her. What is even more curious is her new condition. She finds out by some miraculous way (not really she just doesn’t remember) that she is pregnant. When she has her children she finds them as normal children for the longest time until they turn 10. They start seeing things that they shouldn’t including dancing among little fire like lights that she swears she has seen before. She could swear she sometimes sees little fox creatures dancing in the flames. A trick of the light...right?
Frisk doesn’t know but Ryou’s ability to walk in the human realm has him visiting his children and her even though she is unable to see him any longer. Sometimes she wakes up in the middle of the night feeling like someone is there. A kind of warmth that she leaves her feeling cold when it’s gone. Her two children begin to show physical signs of being yokai including little fox ears and tails which she does not seem to question. It feels right to her for some inexplicable reason. Her children eventually see their father through the gate one day and Frisk is hesitant to step through it (for obvious reasons). She follows her children only to leave the human world behind once more meeting a stranger that to her is not so strange. Her memory slowly returns his Ryou’s help and they live happily together with their kids. It turns out that giving birth to two yokai children strengthened her soul from before giving her the ability to stay and become a yokai herself. As before she becomes a kitsune.
Little Devils
A/N: @exhaustedpotat0 I hope I exceeded your expectations 🤗. Fun fact about me; I get story ideas at the most random times during the day, like for example when I’m making chocolate milk, poof there is an idea I’ve been trying to come up with for days (yes I am 20, yes I still prefer chocolate milk above coffee, fight me 🥊). ANyWaz thank you for the request and support!
Warnings: near death experience I guess? Bribing if that’s a warning
Genre: fluff? Crack? Idk tbh
⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
"It is time for the annual girls-day!" Cana announced as soon as she walked into the guild.
The Fairy Tail girls had picked a date and proclaimed it as the Fairy Queens off day. That day no girl of the guild would work a job or work at the guild itself. They'd all go out of town and enjoy a peaceful day at a resort.
It would be your first time since you had only recently joined the guild because Laxus had requested it. He proposed the idea since you were a bartender at a bar a couple of streets away. He didn't see the point when you could just work here in the guild alongside Mira-Jane. Everyone knew that the real reason was actually, so he could keep a close eye on you and making sure you were okay, but God forbid he'd ever say that out loud.
"I can't," you said as you separated your boys from fighting. Aidan and Keishi were the spitting images of their father. Both having the same blonde locks paired with two soft eyes matching yours.
"Why not?" Erza asked as she helped you.
"I can't leave the boys unattended" you explained as you picked up the crying child and placed him on your hip while Erza scolded the other.
"Let Laxus do it" Bisca shrugged her shoulder as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "Alzack did so with Romeo when he was still a child"
You bit the inside of your cheek as you let the suggestion sink in. Laxus had never cared for the children alone. You were always around, and if for some reason you had to go do something, one of the girls was always there to assist him.
"I don't know" you mumbled as your eyes landed on Laxus that was unbothered chatting with Freed and Bickslow.
"Come on, (Y/N). He'll be fine. He's their dad after all" Levy tried to persuade you.
"Oi! You girls still here? Shouldn't you be leaving for your annual girls day?" Natsu asked, ditching the argument he had with Gray just moments ago.
"That's the plan, but (Y/N) doesn't want to go because she isn't sure if she should leave the kids alone" Lucy explained.
Upon hearing the explanation, Laxus decided to stand up and join the conversation as well "they wouldn't be alone, they'll have me"
"Are you sure you'll be able to handle them?" You asked as you looked up at your significant other.
"Is that a challenge?" He shot back while raising an eyebrow in amusement.
"No! No, of course not. It's just... They can be a lot sometimes" you hurriedly explained at which a soft chuckle left his lips, followed by a kiss pressed against your head "I'll be fine"
"Then it's settled! Let's go!" Lisanna yelled as she linked her arm with her sister, basically dragging the older girl with her as she left the guild.
Erza grabbed your arm, refraining you from turning back "Call me if something happens! I'll be back as soon as I can! I love you!"
And with that all the women of Fairy Tail had left the guild, leaving only the men and children behind.
The first few hours flew by as if nothing had changed, the biggest adjustment being Mira-Jane or you not filling their cups when they were empty.
"I really don't understand what (Y/N) was making a big deal out of. This day has passed by swimmingly" Bickslow chuckled as he placed his foot on the table while leaning back in the chair. Normally you or Mira would've scolded him, but with neither of you being there, he thought he'd take advantage of it.
Karma was lurking around the corner, cause as soon as the words rolled off Bickslow's tongue, everything went South.
Your children started a competition to see who could climb the highest point in the guild. They were both a couple of feet in the air when the youngest slipped, losing all flooring underneath his feet.
Had it not been for Jet's speed, the fall would have been catastrophic. "Not a word to (Y/N) about this"
Laxus was desperately comforting Keishi who was inconsolable as he just saw his short life flash before his very own eyes. Meanwhile, Gray and Natsu were trying their hardest to get the eldest down.
"Aiden! Get down here!" Natsu ordered as he started climbing up as well. The child didn't listen, only climbing higher as he took notice of the struggling adult.
His laughter filled the guild, but that soon turned into screams as the Fire Dragon Slayer got hold of his leg. "No! Let go of me!"
Natsu succeeded in getting down safely along with Aiden that was now also crying uncontrollably, leaving Laxus with two very upset children.
"Mommy!" "I want mommy!" The two cried out for their mother that was unbeknownst to the situation, relaxing in a hot spring a couple of cities away.
Laxus held Keishi close, rocking him softly as his hand softly rubbed circles on his back. He had seen you do this countless times, so why did it seem so hard when he did it? Elfman held the oldest, copying Laxus as good as he could.
"Shouldn't we call (Y/N)?" Gray sighed, annoyance evident on his face as every attempt at trying to calm the boys down seemed to fail.
"No!" Laxus exclaimed, earning him even louder sobs from the young child in his arms. He shushed him before returning to Gray in a lower voice "(Y/N) doesn't think I can handle our children"
"I can see why" Natsu snickered, resulting in a murderous look from the father.
"Freed, can't you put them in like a soundproof box or something with your magic" Gajeel groaned at the loud wails that kept coming from your children.
"You will not do such a thing" Laxus snapped at Gajeel in a hushed tone, already learning from his previous mistakes "I will prove to (Y/N) that I'm perfectly capable of taking care of my boys. Otherwise, she'll never trust me with them again"
"We still have a couple of hours left until the girls come back. We could try bribing them with sweet, perhaps?" Freed suggested.
Everyone turned to look at the green-haired mage as if he was an angel that was sent from up above. "Why didn't you say so earlier!"
"Aidan, Keishi, if you stop crying we'll go get ice cream" Laxus tried and at the sound of the cold deliciousness, their crocodile tears slowly came to a halt.
"Can we have two flavors, daddy?" Keishi asked as he looked at his father with puppy dog eyes.
"No- yes, fine, you can have two flavors" Laxus quickly changed his answer as he saw tears forming back in the corner of his eyes. He knew you'd have his head if you found out. The two boys really turned into little nightmares if they had too much sugar.
"Yay! Let's go" Aidan exclaimed happily, wriggling in Elfman's arms, signalling that he wanted to be put on the ground.
Laxus let both his sons grab a hand as they guided him out of the guild and to the ice cream shop.
"Please don't come back!" Gajeel called after them as they stepped outside the guild, sighing happily at the thought of some peace and quietness.
"Alright, now boys, I need you to listen to daddy for a second" the dragon slayer crouched down to look at them on eye-level while the two carelessly licked away at the sweet dessert in their hands. "Mommy can't find out about today. It was a normal relaxing day without any problems, alright?"
"What's in it for us?" Aidan asked as he looked at his father, still eating the ice cream that had slightly melted on his hand.
"What the- there's nothing in it for you. I am your father" Laxus started but stopped when the boys shared an unimpressed look. For being only 3 and 4, the two definitely had an attitude. "Fine I'll each give you 5 bucks that you can spend in the candy shop"
"10" Keishi chimed in.
Laxus stood perplexed. Was he really negotiating with his own children? More importantly, how was he the one losing the negotiation? "Fine"
The elder mage did as promised, handing both boys their money to which they high-fived. "Let's go back, the girls are about to return home"
Not even 5 minutes later as the three arrived back at Fairy Tail, the girls had returned.
"Mommy!" The two children ran up to you once they caught a glimpse of your face "boys!"
Laxus walked up as well, giving you a soft peck on your lips, earnings fake gagging from Aidan and Keishi "boys that's enough. How did it go, baby?"
"Normal, not much out of the ordinary, right boys?" As on cue, your children nodded their head in agreement.
"Really? So I could leave you more often with the boys?" You eyed him suspiciously, already picking up on his small habit of twirling a strand of your hair between his fingers when he was nervous or lying.
"No! I mean, I think I should help you take care of them more regularly. I'm sorry for ditching you so often to sit with the guys" he apologized at which a small chuckle escape your lips.
You wondered what happened today, but decided not to press it. It will be a secret between all the men at Fairy Tail and you respected it, knowing very well one would slip up when they had a couple of beers too much "it's alright, and I would love that"
tuna | anniversary special
Synopsis: A normal day in Yuu's new life in NRC but, somehow, today made them feel a little bit nostalgic.
Notes: I wanted to write something for Twisted Wonderland's anniversary! This game really means so much to me and I don't think I would've picked up writing again if I didn't stumble upon it. Something about Grim and Yuu's relationship makes me emotional and the fact that Grim got a new card in the game didn't help me cope at all. I ended up writing this fic as a result, this is just purely fluff! (I think) I hope you guys like this.
The smell of charred coal and an oily can of tuna greeted Yuu's nostrils as they stirred awake, grumbling incoherent words as their eyes adjusted to the sudden sunlight entering their room through the window. It was almost peaceful.
Almost.
Had it not been for Grim feasting on his tuna noisily and messily. Yuu sighed as they stood up from their bed and began to arrange it—folding the sheets, dusting the pillows and set them aside neatly. The creaking of the floorboards with each step they took used to unnerve them, afraid that it might give in one day but Yuu learned to get used to it. Though sometimes they can't help but worry for the day when it actually gives in. Maybe they could ask Headmaster Crowley before that happens?
Yuu shook their head and dismissed the thought. The last thing they wanted to hear was Crowley spouting nonsense all over again and then disappearing without a trace. Judging from all the times Crowley has let them down, who's to say that he won't do it again? They pulled out the wooden chair placed by the table and scrunched their face when they saw how Grim was eating.
"You're making a mess everywhere!" Yuu scolded, trying to snatch the tuna can from his hands (paws?) before he could knock the other stuff down on the table. Grim didn't bother refuting as he sat back lazily on the chair, a satisfied grin on his face.
"Mhm... That was delicious~!" Grim let out a merry sigh. The breakfast he'd been used to everyday wasn't something he would look forward to or enjoy. Living in an abandoned dorm meant that no one else was there to cook for them but theirselves and there was no way Yuu was letting the ghosts handle the cooking. As a result, most of their meals were either bland or too little in terms of portions—Crowley wasn't one to ensure these types of things so that's one more thing Yuu adds to the list of 'Why I don't like the Headmaster'.
So when Grim found a can of tuna lying around somewhere, he didn't waste a second to grab the golden opportunity in front of him. Though there was one tiny little problem with what Grim did.
Yuu got that for their breakfast today.
Together.
And much to their misfortune and Grim's doom, the can was empty. Yuu had to pause for a moment to process the sudden discovery—Grim ate all of the tuna. They had to clench their fist tightly so as to not grab the ribbon tied around Grim's neck and shake him like a pepper shaker. Grim was blissfully unaware of the way Yuu was giving him glares that could kill and continued to relish himself in his euphoria. Though that was short-lived when Yuu decided to open their mouth, gentle anger lacing their voice.
"Grim. Did you eat all of the tuna?" They crossed their arms across their chest, a perfect close eyed smile on their face as they tilted their head slightly when they questioned Grim. He froze for a moment, eyes widening and his lips slightly twitching as Yuu furrowed their eyebrows. Clearly, they saw how the sudden realization hit the raccoon-cat (or whatever he was) and how nervous he became. He needs to think of an excuse—fast.
"A-Ah! About this…" Grim started, throwing his paws around in the air, making out incomprehensible gestures. Though before they could hear his explanation, an important thought crossed over Yuu's mind and they felt their blood run cold.
"Hey… Grim. What time is it?" They didn't wait for a reply, feet already scrambling towards their closet as they vigorously looked for a clean uniform. Grim held a confused expression.
"Eh, time? Isn't it…"
"Grim you idiot! We're bloody late!"
"F'nya!! Why didn't ya tell me sooner!?"
"Oh so now it's my fault? You're the one who didn't wake me up!"
"Professor Trein is going to be so mad…"
"Just shut up and start walking!"
Both of them dashed out from Ramshackle, the doorknob at the entrance getting slightly jammed so Yuu had no choice but to break the rickety door down. Not that it was difficult though, burglars could've easily killed them during their sleep—that is, if people even manage to climb a whole mountain to bother stealing from them. They'll just have to explain the door incident to Headmaster Crowley as well later. That is, if they manage to talk to him at all.
But, for now, the only thing stuck in their heads was to run as fast as they can or else it was off with their heads!
“You’re late.” Their teacher, Professor Mozus Trein, spoke in a cold tone. Gingerly stroking his cat’s head as it purred but that didn't give Yuu and Grim any ease at all when they stood there, unmoving, at the classroom entrance. Yuu tried to keep a neutral expression, hands at their side and feet together. Grim, on the other hand, wasn’t doing so well with doing the same as Yuu. He had trouble standing straight on two legs so he decided to climb up Yuu’s back to their shoulder and stayed there.
The sudden shift in weight on one of their shoulders made them grimace slightly.
“Good morning, Professor. Please excuse my tardiness, it won’t happen again.” Yuu bowed slightly, hoping that this would all be over quickly and he would let them go to their respective chairs. They straightened their back, looking at Trein directly before he gave them a slight nod and returning his attention to the chalkboard in front.
Yuu and Grim let out a sigh of relief simultaneously as they quickly went to their respective seats with Grim hopping off Yuu’s shoulder. He grabbed a bunch of books from Yuu’s bag to stack them up. Sitting on it since he wasn’t tall enough to see on his own without the desk obstructing his view.
Yuu caught the sight of Ace trying hard to keep in his laughter in the corner of their eye. They wondered for a moment about what Ace could possibly be laughing about until they heard Grim snarl ever so slightly. As if a lightbulb suddenly popped up over Yuu’s head, it suddenly clicked all too well.
He was laughing at them.
Although Yuu didn’t particularly mind being laughed at by that clown, Ace Trappola, Grim didn’t share the same sentiment. They had to hold back Grim’s tail to stop him from throwing a fit during class—it was a good thing Professor Trein had his back turned or else they’d be in bigger trouble.
A few minutes into class and Yuu could already feel their head explode. Coming from a completely different world than Twisted Wonderland, there was no doubt that they were going to have difficulty understanding things from here. While History of Magic was indeed an interesting subject, Yuu couldn’t help but feel the need to pull their hair out when they saw what Professor Trein was writing on the board.
‘Those symbols… am I supposed to know them? This looks more like a summoning circle more than anything, how am I supposed to understand this?’
They slapped their forehead repeatedly and forced theirselves to stare at the board once more—hoping that staring at it for a while would miraculously make them understand whatever that is. Grim, on the other hand, looked like he was boding well—looking so studious and listening attentively. But the moment he picked up a pen, that’s when the image was ruined. Yuu had to stifle their laughter when they saw him struggle to write on paper.
While it was a bit mean to laugh at him, Yuu couldn’t deny the fact that the drastic change was hilarious.
“Yuu, is there something you’d like to share with the class?” Professor Trein suddenly called out their name. Their back straightened and their gaze immediately snapped to the teacher in front. It seems like the Professor was paying more attention to Yuu.
Someone in the classroom let out a snort. Small, but audible for it to be heard by everyone in the dead silent classroom.
“Ace Trappola, do you have something to say as well?”
Ace stood up almost immediately.
“N-Nothing, Professor!”
Yuu was a tiny bit glad that Ace slipped up. At least they won’t be alone when Professor Trein decides to punish them. They shot a mischievous look at Ace, sticking their tongue out that screams: Serves you right!
“Dismissed.” With one single word from Trein, the class burst into a series of relieved sighs and yawns—a few ones groaning here and there but they were eventually glared at by the Professor and his poofy cat. Ace sluggishly walked towards Yuu and Grim with Deuce, who looked as fresh as ever, following behind.
“Hey, did you get everything Professor Trein said? Today’s class was sooo boring.” Ace whined, crossing his arms over his chest as he asked his three friends.
“Nope.” Yuu answered truthfully as they put back their pen into their case.
“Not at all…” Deuce closed his eyes and clutched his forehead.
“Hmph! Of course I did, I even took down notes.” Grim was proud as he puffed out his chest. Ace’s eyes perked up for a moment, wondering if he would let him view his notes until a sudden realization struck him. He wouldn’t be able to decipher Grim’s terrible handwriting in the first place. His expression slowly turned into one of disappointment—something akin to the feeling of finding out your name wasn’t in the Top 50.
Deuce was the first to comment. “These are….. Notes?”
“Grr! What’s that supposed to mean!?”
“It looks like a bunch of scribbles made by a cat.” Yuu added. Grim was about to be fuming mad until his ears drooped down slightly, Yuu felt a pang hit their chest. Could they possibly be feeling bad?
“Well… I’ll give you an A for effort.” Yuu patted Grim’s head, hoping that they didn’t hurt his feelings too much after that comment. Instead of lifting his spirits up, Grim felt like his soul got crushed. He felt like Yuu pitied him more than actual commendation, but he won’t say anything. He’ll take the crumbs of praise he can get.
Ace straightened up and walked towards the exit, dragging his legs slightly as he called out his friends. “Oi! Let’s go have lunch already, I’m starving!”
“Coming!” Deuce replied before promptly poking Yuu’s shoulder to make sure that they heard Ace.
“Alright, alright. Give me a minute to fix all my stuff, you guys can go ahead.” Grim stared at Yuu, wondering who should he go with—Yuu or Ace and Deuce? He was going to accompany the Heartslabyul Duo until he remembered how Yuu didn’t get to eat breakfast because of him.
He felt a little bit bad for leaving them like this.
He opened his mouth to say that he’s going to stay with Yuu until they suddenly cut into his thoughts like a knife into butter.
“Grim, you can go ahead too. Save a seat for me while you’re at it.”
“Are ya sure?” Grim asked them for reassurance.
“...? Are you going to miss me or something?” Yuu teased.
“No way! Nevermind, I’m leaving!”
Yuu watched as the Ace, Deuce, and Grim exited the door before letting their smile drop into a frown. They wondered if today was an okay date to ask the Headmaster about progress on the whole ‘find Yuu a way back home’ thing. But, there was a possibility that their visit to his office will be all for naught. Crowley was someone unpredictable, after all—eccentric is another way to put it nicely.
They tapped their fingers against the desk rhythmically. Dozens of thoughts running inside their head. The chatter outside the classroom cutting their train of thoughts continuously which annoyed them to death but it was something they took comfort in. The nostalgic noises of a bustling school filled with students going on and about.
It reminded them of their homeworld.
Yuu decided to look for Crowley as they stood up from their chair. A nostalgic bitterness lingering in their mouth as they left.
“Why did I think I would find him today?” Yuu asked no one in particular. Eyes glued to the wall clock as they counted the minutes they had left before break ended and classes started again. They silently dwelled on their regret of visiting Crowley’s office, it was nothing but a waste of time. Now they had less than 30 minutes to go into the cafeteria to get some food.
Each step they took was taxing. They put too much force with every one and perhaps that was a result of getting mad at a useless bird—their temper can’t help but explode a little bit. By the time Yuu arrived, they spotted the idiot trio sitting by the window. They had already finished eating long ago but they were still there. A thought popped into their head.
‘Could it be…? They were waiting for me!?’ Yuu knew it was nowhere near the truth but perhaps they can indulge theirself once in a while with these kinds of thoughts. Grim was the first to spot them.
“Where were you!? Break is almost over.” The grumble Yuu’s stomach let out made their cheeks heat up in embarrassment. Maybe it was because they skipped breakfast? Grim felt bad. This was his fault, wasn't it? Ace and Deuce urged Yuu to go buy something to eat but one look at the line formed by the counter, Yuu immediately declined. They’re going to be late for class if they waited!
Grim stared at the small portion of lunch he set aside for himself for later. Much to no one’s surprise, it was fish. He had a debate with himself—asking if he wanted to keep this or offer it to Yuu. In the end, he went for the latter. He nudged Yuu with his paw before holding up the plate with his two paws.
“Have this if you want… Ya didn’t get to eat breakfast because of me, right? I feel kinda bad but here.”
Ace’s eyes were wide in shock and Deuce dropped his yogurt. Yuu was flabbergasted at the sudden nice gesture Grim was showing but-
“Sorry, but I don’t want rabies.”
Grim had to resist the urge to set everything on fire. Yuu had to bite back a laugh when they saw how mad Grim was—denying everything about him having rabies. The troubles they had about Crowley were long gone and replaced by the bubbling happiness growing in their chest. The sight of their friends—Grim, Ace and Deuce—was enough to convince them to forget about it. Even if it’s just for a short while.
The nostalgic taste danced in the tip of their tongue once again. A sudden wave of sadness washing over them as they thought about the day when they’ll eventually go back to their own world.
I’ll miss this. Definitely.
They looked up to see Grim causing a mess with Ace holding him back and Deuce trying to summon another cauldron. Yuu shook their head.
But, for now, let’s focus on the present.
Is it so bad that Yuu wanted the incompetent headmaster to stay incompetent? Just for a little longer, don’t find a way back.
Tensei Oujo to Tensai Reijou no Mahou Kakumei 5
Author: Piero Karasu
Illustrator: Yuri Kisaragi
Label: Fujimi Fantasia Bunko
Release Date: 20 August 2022
My Score: 3/5
English Release: Yen Press is releasing this series in English as The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady so please check it out if you are interested in the series.
Notes on names: with an anime announcement and English release come new romanised names so from here on out I’ll be changing how I spell some of the characters names. I apologise for any confusion caused.
This volume has a few different plots going on and it leads to it feeling a bit messy, especially as not all of the plots are interesting or well written. The first plot concerns Euphy’s younger brother. Her brother - I believe his name is Kynde? - is struggling a bit with his sister’s new status as Queen. She’s no longer legally part of his family and he’s concerned about her wellbeing but he hasn’t been able to talk to her. Anis tries to fix this. I don’t remember Euphy’s younger brother ever being mentioned before which led to this plot feeling hollow. Clearly, if he hasn’t been important to the plot enough to show up before now, he’s not important to Euphy. He doesn’t even meet Euphy directly in this volume and he doesn’t show up after the first chapter and is only briefly mentioned. I think what the author was trying to do here was introduce a theme of siblinghood for the volume as that ties into the third plot but it wasn’t executed well.
Then we move into the second plot of Euphy’s and Anis’s “honeymoon”. Really, it’s a political trip to see other parts of the kingdom and help them with their problems but it led to a lot of flirting between Euphy and Anis and they were so cute and I was happy.
The third plot takes up the back half of the volume as Anis reunites with her younger brother Algard when they visit the location of his exile. It also features a new character by the name of Acryll. Acryll is a lycanth - she has wolf ears and a tail. Acryll was saved by Algard and is very fond of him, leading to her hatred of Anis. While I understand why the author wanted to bring Algard back into the story and it makes sense to reunite him and Anis, I never cared for Algard personally and I found myself really bored during this half of the book. There are these particular two chapters that are told by Acryll about how she met Algard and these took me out of the story. They weren’t interesting and it particularly annoyed me that they were narrated by Acryll when in the narrative, but Algard is the one who is meant to be relating this story to Euphy and Anis. Like, one of the chapters ends with Algard starting to explain the story, and then the next two chapters are told from Acryll’s POV without any warning or explanation. The chapter after those two even starts with Algard concluding the story as though he was the one relating it. It bothered me and it took me out of the story.
Another thing that frustrated me about this volume was how there’s a part early on where they’re establishing who’s going with them on their honeymoon. This party includes Illya and Lainie, among others, and reasons are given for why each of these characters are coming along. However, none of them ever become important to the plot. This is especially a shame with Lainie who has a history with Algard and whose existance as a vampire is close to Acryll’s existance as a lycanth but these two facts are barely brought up outside of a couple of lines. It’s such a waste!
Anyhow, I sadly didn’t enjoy this volume as much as I wanted to. I enjoyed the flirting between Euphy and Anis and I enjoyed seeing the character development that they have gone through since the start of the series but I was so bored by the second half. This plot could have worked but it didn’t for me.
That being said, I am really excited for the anime and I really hope I get to watch it. It looks so good so far!
“My mom.” It’s all Lady Noire can reply through all of her sniffles. She curls up tighter into a ball on the couch, pinching her eyes shut to the point it hurts, curling up her arms and legs and tail and head so that she becomes a single black smudge on the couch. A stain. Just simply a stain. “My mom. Always my mom. It was my mom again.”
Her head hurts. It’s foggy and full of cotton, so stuffy from everything. She’s grateful for the shade in his room that gets darker and darker as the minutes tick by, casting the space in total darkness, so that way he doesn’t have to see how miserable she is.
It must be horrible to have to live with an east-facing window. Her plants would love it. Her eyes, though, not so much.
She grabs for a decorative couch pillow above her head, swiping it and hiding her face, giving her even a bit of reprieve from the light.
Adrien sits down in front of her on the couch. She hears the noise of his pajama pants crinkling as he sits cross-legged on the rug underneath the coffee table, hears how he drums his fingers on his thighs, and hears how slow and steady his heartbeat is. He’s always so steady. Always so firm and anchoring to her. Even if the world continues in its attempt to rock her boat and tip her over and submerge her. Adrien always holds on for her when she’s too tired and too scared and too lonely to do so. “I’m sorry, kitty.”
“Her idea of comforting me is by telling me to be stronger. Whatever it is.”
He pauses. “Do you… do you want to talk about it?”
“It— it doesn’t matter. What I was upset about in the beginning is gone— I’m more upset at my mom now. Tell me how your day was first.” Because it’s always better to ask first about others than talk about her own problems. She doesn’t want to think about it for so long. If there’s any chance of forgetting about it, even for a little while, she’ll be happy.
And Adrien knows this. He knows this, because he knows her, and knows that her changing the subject is a cry for help. A flag upside down, calling out in distress. She’s sinking. It hurts. She’s injured. It shows. The silence is enough to make her remember the turbulent storms that made her cry in the first place, causing her to coil tighter, causing her to coil smaller, all in an attempt to get rid of the noise in her head.
He puts his hand on her head.
The hand at her scalp is soothing, and still damp from the shower— her lashes flutter when he gets a purr out of her, even if it’s a little watery. “My day was okay.”
“What did you do today?”
“I had school,” he shrugs a bit, jostling the hand that pets the soft parts of her ears. She knows about school. She’d spent the entire day boring a giant hole at the back of his head, chewing on her tongue like it was personally causing her grief, doing her utmost best like she always does to not accidentally tell Adrien that she’s the superhero that vaults through his bedroom window every afternoon. “Nothing, really. No extracurriculars for me today, either.”
She knows that, too.
She’d asked him at school.
He’d managed to stammer out a whole sentence to her today. To Marinette today.
He doesn’t have a problem talking to Lady Noire. But Marinette is an obstacle that he genuinely can’t conquer, no matter how many times she tries.
“I just came home and did homework and went to take a shower and suddenly…”
“And suddenly I’m here crying into your couch. I’m sorry,” she tries to fill in the gaps when he struggles on what to say next. “I’m always showing up with some kind of problem, aren’t I?”
“I don’t mind. You know I don’t. I love taking care of you— you’re my best friend. You know that, right?”
She does. Of course she does. That’s why it hurts so much.
“Some hero of Paris I am, huh?” Oh, she sounds bitter. “Showing up at a civilian’s house crying about personal life?”
“Hey,” he whispers, with something stern in his voice. “Stop that. Don’t talk like that— that’s not nice to yourself. You know you’re allowed to have problems outside of fighting Hawkmoth.”
And that’s it, really. That’s what gets another round of tears to freefall down her cheeks, but they come out sideways because she’s laying on her side— she can’t feel the tears track down on her black hexleather mask, but she knows she’s crying. She knows there are tears sloping across the bridge of her nose and joining with the tear pattern from her other eye, because she can feel how wet the whisps of her baby hairs feel against her ear when the tears finally get there. “I wish I didn’t have this.”
“Oh, kitty— I’m so sorry—”
“My mom just wants what’s best for me,” she feels herself get smaller and smaller, hiccuping hard enough for her to jump. Will she disappear? She wants to. Can she? Will Adrien let her? Probably not. He has a habit of wanting her to be happy, even when she wants to do nothing but disappear forever. “But we get into arguments about what that is all the time.”
“I know.”
“How I should be trying harder in school.”
“Yeah.”
“How I should”—she pauses, trying to think of something, anything, to fill in the gaps—“be trying harder to balance my civilian life and superhero duties.”
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry, kitty.”
“How I need to be better. How I need to stop crying. How I need to do everything except what I’m doing now, because it isn’t enough.”
“Kitty…”
“She wants me to succeed, but instead of comforting me, she keeps adding more stress onto my shoulders by telling me how I should be dealing with my problems instead. And it hurts. And it’s painful. And I’m lonely. And I can’t do anything about it.”
“You have something you can do. You can stay right here with me. You can stay right here until it feels better. All of it. Everything.”
“It’s hard being a superhero,” she whispers. What an understatement of a lifetime. What does she choose to talk about first? What does she pick to say? “I don’t know how Mister Bug does it without breaking down.”
“Maybe he does. Maybe he struggles just as much as you do.”
“I don’t know. It’s hard to imagine that. Do you think he’s okay?”
“Well, he’s just a human. Just like you are. He has problems too, doesn’t he?”
“I can’t picture Mister Bug having problems. I should ask him.”
“I don’t think you need to,” Adrien shrugs. “I think he already knows how much you care about him.”
“Then, should I be going to him and telling him what’s wrong? Do you think he’s upset, knowing that I choose to talk to someone else about my problems?”
“I think he’s happy that you have someone you trust,” he whispers, damp fingers tracing the shell of her hexleather ears. She can’t feel it like her normal skin, because it’s a magical suit, but the little triangles at the top of her head twitch as if they’re sensitive to touch. “I think it makes him feel content, knowing that you go to someone you like and talk about your issues instead of bottling them up.”
“Love,” she corrects. “Everyone knows that I love you.”
“Love,” he repeats back to her with a smile. “Right. Yes. I think it makes him feel good, knowing you go to talk to someone you love about your problems.”
“The whole world knows, you know. Even Hawkmoth knows that you’re my best friend. People talk about it on social media all the time. We’re a pair. We’re a duo. We’re a matching set.”
If only people knew just how close the two of them actually are. Selfies taken on the street when either of them finds each other, pretending to act like simply a celebrity finding another celebrity on the streets of Paris, instead of being two best friends.
“We’re a team,” he whispers.
“Team shark.”
“Exactly,” he talks even softer. “We’re a team, little kitty. You and me.”
“Because no jaw is too strong,” she replies.
“No smile is too full of teeth,” oh, there’s a smile in his voice.
“And no mouth is too wide to keep me away from you. Never. No Akuma. No Lady Noire’s mother. No stupid photoshoots that they pencil you in at the last minute. No world-ending apocalypse that Mister Bug and I have to fix every month. Nothing will keep me from you.” They settle into a silence that is only partially filled with her sniffles and the occasional wipe of her mask with the back of her hand. It’s a shame she can’t feel his fingers on her back, following the lines of her spine like she knows he’s doing— but it’s the sacrifice she pays up in order to stay protected from Akuma battles.
“Nothing will keep me from you, either. No nightmares, no Akuma, no fangirls that drive me crazy.”
She listens to the silence, opening her eyes to the darkening room, watching the sky outside his floor-to-ceiling windows start to orange and purple. It’s such a pretty sight, watching those clouds drift lazily by as Paris turns into a sight reminiscent of a dream. No wonder he doesn’t draw the curtains closed. Or maybe he just wants his room accessible to her at all times. “You know, sunshine, my uncle said that if I bottle up too many emotions I might start to break things.”
His eyes look like stars, looking at her in alarm and worry. “Like, you’re going to get violent?”
“No! No. Never. Not really. You know I wouldn’t.”
“Oh. Wait, then I don’t understand what you mean.”
“It wouldn’t be my choice. It would be just like a misfire of my powers.”
“A misfire?”
“It’s kind of like a protection, or a last-resort. When I’m so stressed out that my body just goes into self-preservation, making sure that it’s impossible to take my miraculous ring in case I’m indisposed.”
“Oh. I never knew this.”
“It’s to stop me from getting Akumatized.” As if the explanation makes this any better. “But it’s still not a good thing. Self-preservation is a pretty selfish thing to happen.”
“What”—she watches him lick his lips, as if he’s trying to choose his next words carefully—“what does it look like?”
“How do I explain this— it’s kind of like— uhm. Do you remember that movie we watched?”
“We watch many movies together,” he snorts, scrunching his nose into something silly when she cracks a smile.
“Come on. The one with the wizard.”
“Do you know how little that narrows it down?”
“The one with the demon.”
“Oh boy. Remind me not to join any charades groups with you— we’d lose every round.” The two of them snicker at each other.
“Okay, it’s the one where the woman who falls in love with—” she pauses. “A guy.”
“Wait a minute. What were you going to say?”
“Just some guy.”
He narrows his eyes. “Some guy you really like.”
“He’s okay.”
“What’s his name?”
She twiddles her thumbs. “Howl.”
Recognition sparks in those beautiful emerald green eyes of his. “Oh. Oh. The love of your life, yes. I’m aware.”
“He’s not—”
“Yes he is.”
“I’m not—”
“Don’t bother lying, little kitty. I know why you love rewatching the movie with me, you little gremlin.”
“The music,” she argues, feeling her cheeks heat under her domino mask. “The atmosphere. The flowers—”
“The magician boys,” Adrien grins. “Howl especially. Admit it. You have a thing for blondes.”
“I— I do not. Anyway,” she tries her hardest not to grin back. If only he knew. If only he knew that she’s not thinking of Mister Bug when he says that. “Shut up. Stop looking at me. Stop it.”
“Am I right? Am I?”
“You’re harassing me.”
“It’s not harassment, it’s endearingly interrogating.”
“I’m moving on! I’m moving on from this topic!” She paws at him when his mouth twitches hard, trying to keep his laughter out. “Do you remember when Howl got so upset that his hair changed color?”
“And there was goo coming off the walls?”
“Yeah! Exactly! The room was shifting super weird and goo was dripping everywhere? Something similar happens with the black cat miraculous when they’re super upset.”
“Similar? Or do you actually make goo?”
“Just similar. I’m not a gooer.”
“Are you sure?”
“I promise, I’m goo free.”
“How free of goo are you?”
“Pretty gooless.”
“I don’t want to see you all gooey,” he ducks his head, smiling at her with a quirk of his mouth like he always does when he’s teasing. “I don’t ever want to see that happen. Ever. And it’s not going to happen, because you and I are a team, and team members don’t turn into goopy sludge.”
Does he know how much that means to her? To hear the words out loud that he doesn’t ever want to see her get to the breaking point where her miraculous powers start to drain and create vacuums in the air around her? That he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that she never gets to the stage where she breaks windows and concrete and whatever surface it is she’s standing on— whatever object she’s holding?
Her smile is so watery.
So, so watery.
“What? The concept of a jelly Lady Noire too strange for you?”
“Anything that isn’t my kitty in her normal and natural form is too strange for me,” he shares a smile with her, those beautiful green eyes looking at hers. “But don’t worry. If it ever gets to that point where you’re a gelatin, I’ll love you. Even when you’re gooey.”
“Gross.”
“And oozy.”
“Ew.”
“And goopy.”
“Ugh. Why do I sound so disgusting?”
“I’ll love you even if you’ve turned into a slime.”
“Watch out, Hawkmoth. Slime Noire is here. Even though I don’t actually turn into slime physically, I am emotionally. Try taking my miraculous now.” They share laughter hard enough to hurt in the spaces between her ribs. His laughter soothes an itch that is somewhere next to her heart— it’s a warm and gentle balm. She loves him. She loves him so much.
“I’m glad you’re here,” he tells her when she finally picks up her head from the couch, wiping at her eyes, smiling down at him. He has to crane his head up to look at her from where he is, sitting on the rug, but it doesn’t look like he minds it. “I’m glad you showed up, kitty. It’s lonely without you here.”
“I like coming here.” As if she even has to admit it. As if he doesn’t know. The only reason why she doesn’t stay permanently in this room is because of all the plants she’s populated her room with. And, of course, the whole problem that Adrien doesn’t know her secret identity. Hard to take a shower in a hexleather suit. It’s not like she would be able to move in and be able to use the bathroom. “You make me feel safe and wanted.”
“You are wanted.”
“You know what I meant.”
“I meant by me. You are wanted by me— and I know you know that— but I want to repeat it anyway. I always want you to be happy here.”
“You already make me feel happy. Always.” Oh, she can feel how her cheeks stain harder underneath her hexleather mask. “I know your house is quiet, but— when I’m here with you— it doesn’t feel so overwhelming. Being in my house makes everything so loud. So many cousins asking me to help them. So many aunts and uncles begging me to cover their shifts or go do errands. And my mom—”
Well.
“You don’t have to do any of that here.” He lifts his arms up, offering himself for a hug when she cuts herself off and starts to think about it all over again. She slips off the couch quick enough to startle him, planting a knee at the side of his hip and another between his legs and crushing his broad shoulders into a hug. His fingers find a way through her braid, just like always, massaging a certain spot on her scalp that makes her eyes role and see stars. “You don’t have to do anything. I want you here.”
“You’re just trying to make sure I don’t turn into Goopy Noire.”
“Maybe I like the idea of being able to save the citizens of Paris from a sludge,” he laughs so warmly into her shoulder. “Being a superhero of my own. Who knows. Or maybe I really do care about you, kitty.”
“What a weirdo.” Oh— her voice is cracking.
He doesn’t mention it. “God, I know. Caring about my best friend is so stupid these days.”
“Yeah. Who does that?”
“People who love one another.”
“Wait. Are you admitting you like me?”
“Don’t tell anyone. No one will hire me for modeling gigs if they found out about my secret.”
“You know what? Just because of that, you’ll be the first one to get consumed by my goo.” She dissolves into laughter so hard that the both of them tumble backwards on the rug from how much the both of them shake, grinning at each other like the idiots they are, snickering and poking fun at each other.
“Ew,” Adrien manages to say at some point during their laughter. “That sounds disgusting.”
“It’s the price to pay.”
“What price? What am I paying for?”
“No idea. But it’s the price you’re going to have to pay,” she wheezes out between snorts, peeling away from their hug just enough to make eye contact.
He can’t see her as well as she can see him. It’s dark now, and it’s way too dark for human eyes to see in his room. She can see him in perfect clarity, of course, because her miraculous allows her to see in the dark as if it were still daytime— so she gives herself the luxury of looking at him without him pulling a face or teasing her.
Just a little snippet.
Just a little indulgence.
Just a little moment that is hers that she won’t share with anyone else.
And yet, it’s as if he knows what she’s thinking about anyway, like he can read her face in this much darkness. His thumb rubs circles on her domino mask, wiping away her tears and her worries and her problems with that smile he only gives her. It’s not his Agreste smile. It’s Adrien’s smile. Toothy and stupid and silly and his— he’s not self conscious about himself in front of her. He never is. “You’re important to me, little kitty.”
“You’re important to me too, Charming,” she wiggles her toes in her boots before tackling him into another hug that makes her feel all warm and fuzzy. “I love you.”
“I love you too. Always. Every day. Gooey or not.”
horseback
okay so. i may have fallen down the rabbit hole and made. an OC to ship with Wukong and Macaque-
and. i might have been encouraged and written. an entire fanfic of. Wukong teaching her how to ride a horse for fun. (and also Macaque is here too)
so uh. take....this self-indulgent stuff i guess???
i havent actually ridden a horse in like 5 years hdfkjdlkfjlsksd
---
"Could you teach me how to ride a horse?" Sel asked- and proceeded to nearly choke on her own breath laughing at the expression that came over Wukong's face. "What's with that look?"
"...I'm trying to figure out if you're making fun of me or not." Wukong said, leaning back on his cloud. "Why, exactly, are you asking me how to ride a horse?"
"Because you're the only one around here, and you're the only person I know of who has some horse experience." Sel said, before adding, "No offense intended."
"....I mean...I do know how to ride." Wukong sat up straight, pulling a bag of peach chips out of nowhere (and really, where had he gotten those, Sel had thought she and Macaque had hidden all of them during their last prank war- he better not be eating his own hair again-) and munching on them as he thought. "Why the sudden interest? Did you watch a horse movie or something?"
"I'm a selkie, Wukong." Sel leveled the Monkey King with a flat stare. "I don't exactly encounter land animals much, of course I'm curious about it."
"...You did watch a horse movie, didn't you."
"It was the only thing on TV at the time-"
-
A week later, and the both of them stood in a clearing, beside a brown appaloosa horse, Sel softly running a hand down it's neck, quietly in awe at the texture of it's fur. Wukong gave her a small smile before jumping right into the plan of the day; teaching a selkie how to ride a horse.
"Right, so first you gotta learn how to mount the horse-" Wukong took one of his hairs, creating a small step stool with it. "Since this is your first time we'll use a step stool to give you an extra boost."
"Couldn't you just lift me up?" Sel asked, getting up onto the step stool anyways.
"You want to be able to ride even when I'm not around, don't you?" Wukong asked, "It's not really that hard anyways- well, this would be easier if we had a saddle-"
"Once again, you could just magic up a saddle."
"If you can ride bareback you can ride a saddle." Wukong insisted.
"Oh, so it's like the whole driving thing- if you can drive a manual you can drive an automatic." Sel said, a smirk on her face. Wukong just looked confused.
"...I....don't know what you're talking about."
"...Wait do you not know how to dri-"
"Moving on!" Wukong interrupted, backflipping onto his cloud so that he was the same height as Sel. "Now, you can grab onto the horse's hair if you want, just try not to tug, okay? Place your hand here- yes like that- now jump up and over in one smooth motion."
"Not a very detailed explanation I see...." Sel did, but still, through some means, she managed to do get up and onto the horse.
"Alright, good- you're a little bit too far forwards though." Wukong said, and Sel scooched back a little. "Perfect- alright, now you've just gotta sit up straight!"
The glare Sel gave him was downright lethal.
"....I wasn't told there'd be posture involved here." She said, attempting to straighten her back, not doing the very best job of it.
"It's necessary- look okay, just. Raise your shoulders." Wukong said, "Now push them back to just slightly behind your ears and set them down."
Sel followed his instructions- and she had to admit, she felt a lot more comfortable on the horse now than she had before.
"Think you're ready to try moving?" Wukong asked, creating a pair of reins, as well as a long rope to lead the horse with. "Here, you've gotta hold the reins like this-"
He softly put his own hands over top of hers, and Sel smiled, holding back her want to comment on the close contact as he gently moved her hands into the right position. She'd had practice- she'd long since started tuning out how close Wukong tended to get to her. She'd never considered herself as being touchstarved, and still didn't think she was now, but the Monkey King definitely was, and she found herself feeling almost...saddened whenever he would seem to rein himself in, pulling out of hugs and leaning away from contact he had initiated, as though he was afraid she would start to dislike it. (The result of a bad experience, or the result of 500 years by himself? Sel had no idea.) Still though, she decided to welcome any form of contact with welcome arms.
Wukong must've noticed her smile though, as she could just barely see the hints of a blush on his face as he pulled his hands away.
"Uh- okay, so um, now that you've got the grip right, it's time to try moving." He said, hopping off of his cloud to stand on the ground, holding the lead in his hands. "Just- follow the horse's movements, okay? She's a pretty easy ride, not as bumpy as some horses, but you'll still want to try and move with the rhythm of the horse, okay?"
"...Okay." Sel said, and Wukong started walking, clicking his tone to cue the horse into walking as well. It was a little...weird at first, but after a bit, Sel found that she was starting to get used to it.
...She did have one question though.
"Where did you even find a horse this obedient anyways?" Sel asked, "Surely she's not wild."
"Ah- no." Wukong didn't look back at her, nor did he stop walking, and Sel couldn't help but sense that the Monkey King seemed...almost sheepish. "I- stole her from a nearby stable-"
"You what-"
"It's fine! I'm going to bring her back!" He quickly added, "The people who work there know me- it's fine."
Sel had the sneaking suspicion that it was probably not fine, but kept quiet.
-
"So am I a bonafide horse rider now?" Sel asked, after two days of Wukong helping her.
"Psh, not really." Wukong said, "I mean, you are learning rather quick, but you can't be genuinely called a true horse rider until you've fallen off your horse at least like, ten times."
"Okay???" Sel confusedly started leaning to the side, intent on sliding off. Upon seeing this, Wukong dropped the lead, the horse stopping in it's tracks immediately, as Wukong rushed to grab onto Sel's wrist, preventing her from tipping to the side.
"Not like that." He hissed, keeping his grip steady around her wrist, only letting go once Sel had righted herself. "It has to be a natural, accidental fall, the kinda thing that just happens over the years."
"..Oh." Sel said, "...It would've been nice for you to lead with that."
"I didn't think I'd have to!"
-
"Well, she's certainly picked up on this quick." Macaque said, standing beside Wukong, the two of them watching has Sel rode the horse across the field. Over the course of two weeks, she'd managed to work up to a trot (she hadn't gotten to the point of attempting a canter), and could now ride without Wukong leading the horse.
"She's a fast learner." Wukong said, "Unlike you- don't think I've forgotten how you refused to let me teach you how to ride."
"I just didn't think it was important, that's all." Macaque leaned away from Wukong slightly, noting a recognizable glint in his eyes. "...And it's still not important, I don't really need to ride at all-"
"Hey, Sel- could you come here for a moment?!" Wukong yelled, and Macaque, realizing that the other was up to something, turned around, trying to get away. He was stopped as Wukong grabbed hold of his wrist using his tail, with a surprisingly tight grip. Sel slowed the horse to a stop in front of them.
"What's up?" She asked, either not noticing or purposefully ignoring how Macaque was struggling to get out his wrist out of Wukong's grip. Wukong summoned his cloud, stepping up onto it, pulling Macaque along with him.
"I'm gonna need you to scooch back just a bit." Wukong said, and as soon as Sel had followed through- "Perfect."
He grabbed Macaque by the waist (and Macaque would firmly deny squeaking, but both Wukong and Sel knew what they had heard), lifted him up, and safely deposited him on the horse, in front of Sel. For her part, Sel immediately adjusted, wrapping her arms around Macaque to keep her hold on the reins, smirking a little at how she could feel Macaque stiffen. She couldn't see his face, but from how tense his back was (as well as the shade of pink his six ears were turning), she could gander a guess. Wukong, who was now back on the ground, holding the lead he had just created, could see the other monkey's expression though, and he outright laughed at it.
"Man- Sel, you should see his face!" He giggled, seemingly ignorant to the fact that if he was in Macaque's position he'd probably react the same way. Sel rolled her eyes.
"I don't need to see his face." She said, "I can tell by his ears just fine!"
That comment seemed to smack Macaque out of whatever stupor he'd seemingly fallen into, as in one blink, his six ears had turned back into two, the pink colour vanishing with them. Sel couldn't contain her "aw..." of disappointment, she honestly liked seeing Macaque with his glamours down. (It had taken a long time for him to even be comfortable enough to be around her with his glamours down.....she knew how much trust he was giving to her when he did so. It made her heart feel warm and fluttery on the inside- and she knew Wukong also felt the same way whenever he spied the shadow monkey with his glamours down. Still though, she couldn't fault him for putting them back up now though.)
"I hate you." Macaque hissed, and even though she couldn't see his face, Sel could just sense the glare he was giving Wukong. "I hate you both so much."
Despite what he said though, he made no attempt at getting off of the horse, staying perfectly still.
"Heh, sure, we'll pretend any of us believe that." Wukong said, and, ignoring Macaque's indignant sputtering, he turned, clicking his tongue and starting to walk, leading the horse behind him. Macaque startled, slightly off balance, and Sel pressed her arms into his a little more, to keep him from falling off.
"Relax." Sel whispered, "Neither of us will let you fall."
"Unless it's funny, of course." Wukong added, and Sel had the feeling that if her arms weren't on either side of Macaque, he would slide off the horse just to tackle Wukong.
As it was, he stayed in his position, perfectly silent.
Sel, sensing that Macaque probably wasn't really in the mood for conversation (he was probably still recovering from the shock of how he ended up in this position to be honest), let herself start daydreaming, knowing that Wukong could easily lead the horse without her needing to steer. Wukong, not willing to let there be total silence, started humming a tune that Sel couldn't quite recognize, but was still pleasant.
The moment ended as Wukong suddenly froze, the horse obediently stopping with him. Sel jolted out of her daydream from the sudden lack of movement, feeling Macaque do the same.
"...Ah." Wukong said, turning to face the both of them with a nervous smile. "Um. Sorry but uh- I may have just remembered that I. Think I promised to train with MK today?"
Macaque snorted, while Sel pulled out her phone, checking her calendar.
"...You were meant to start training with him about ten minutes ago." She said, "If you hurry up, you can probably explain it away as just having been busy with the monkeys."
Without another word, Wukong was gone, Sel feeling a slight breeze rustle her hair in the Monkey King's wake.
For a moment, both Sel and Macaque remained sitting on the horse, staring at the spot Wukong had just been standing in.
"...Sel?" Macaque asked.
"Yeah?"
"....I don't know how to get down."
I was going to reblog this post but my response got long and I didn't want to spill meta all over someone else's meta, so I'm just going to make my own post about this topic.
So this is about the points @stellophia brought up; namely, the frustration with the narrative:
On the "the writers aren't making this clear" note, this begs a question that I've been wondering about since week 1 and it doesn't really require an answer, because I don't think there is one but I'm gonna toss it out there anyway -
At what point do we, collectively as an audience, determine that the writers have made X thing or Y thing Clear Enough? Where is the line drawn between "the writers have not made this explicit enough, so the narrative fails" and "the writers have given us enough for us to draw our own conclusions, there's only so much they can do" - and is one option better than the other?
Like, I don't know. A lot of things that seem to be causing the biggest reactions (positive, negative, whatever) are things that, yes, the narrative doesn't make explicit, but I feel like some of it isn't explicit on purpose. @stellophia 's tags mention that you (the viewer) have to take a step back and think for a second, and I guess I am not sure why that's being considered a bad thing (if it is; I'm not trying to put words in your mouth, stellophia).
I mean, when it comes to establishing the setting and the plot, yes, the narrative does need to be more explicit. It's not being made clear, for example, whether or not the TVA is Bad (I think that the subtext on that is as subtle as a flashing red light, but that's just me). "Because they were supposed to" is a shit explanation, both in-universe and out, for why the Avengers aren't in trouble for their time-meddling. Things like that, yes, please make it clear for us bc a majority of us don't know wtf is going on with all of that.
But, when it's coming to character development and interactions? There's some things that the narrative shouldn't have to spell out for us. I thought it was obvious that Mobius was interrogating Loki, for example; I also thought it was obvious that most of what he said was said for a purpose, to get a rise out of Loki, to push him to the breaking point. I don't believe that Mobius believes most of the terrible things he was saying (although I will never forgive "you killed your mother," idc why he said it).
I mean, maybe I've just watched too many detective procedurals with this same scene over and over again - that is, the police pushing and pushing to get a clue or a confession, saying whatever they need to in order to break the case - but it never even occurred to me that anyone would interpret that scene differently until I came online and saw all the various takes, and then I was like - ??
And I'm not saying that if something isn't obvious immediately, then you're not doing a good job at interpreting the material. What I am saying is that more often than not with this show and its characters, it feels to me like the writers are putting the clues in there and leaving it up to the audience to figure out how we should feel. They're tossing us some clues and hints like puzzle pieces and saying here, put these together, and there are a few variations on the final piece and you can approach it however you like, but we're not going to put together the puzzle for you.
In regards to Loki's general behavior, I see a lot of posturing and putting on a show; he's not being himself, he's trying to give Mobius and the TVA the illusion that he's unaffected and in control, particularly after having shown all of his vulnerable cards last week in front of a total stranger. (FWIW, I don't think that he's really succeeding at this, and it's kinda clumsy for the Loki we know, but I don't for a second think that Loki has just changed, overnight, into a whole new person. I think a lot of the clumsiness (cringeyness) is on purpose, sorta.)
I feel like there's a lot that the narrative is saying about Loki in general, without coming right out and saying it. Like, instead of taking his over-the-top posturing at face value and saying it's ooc, why aren't we giving more weight to what Loki does and how he feels in the moments when he's alone or when he thinks no one is watching? Why aren't we examining some of the things he says and ask ourselves, hmm, I wonder where that's coming from; I wonder what he means by that; I wonder what his ultimate goal is here.
In trying to make heads and tails of Loki here, one of the things I'm looking at is the different ways he interacts with different people:
He's defensive with B-15, for example; his tone of voice when he was explaining to her that he used magic to dry off can only be described as withering.
With Mobius, there are a lot of different hats he tries on, so to speak, but I don't think that Loki trailing after Mobius like an excited puppy should be given more narrative weight than Loki being curiously inquizitive about Mobius's interest in jet skis, or the way he sounds - absolutely certain, as someone who's seen Some Shit - when he says, "I know something that children don't."
And when he first encounters the variant, he's very collected and measured, choosing his words carefully and only getting annoyed and/or snarky when they start "fighting." (I, too, could do without the one-liners in the heat of battle, tbh.)
My point is that the way Loki's "personality" changes depending on who he's interacting with and in what context is a pretty big clue, to me, that we can't take everything he says or does at face value. And that having seen him acting in all of these different ways while only being two episodes in, it makes me feel like we haven't even begun to see Loki's entire characterization in this show and how he'll approach what's coming next.
This just circles me back around to: where is the line drawn between a narrative failing (which Avengers was, in a lot of ways, and the show may turn out to be as well but it's too early to tell) and narrative subtext that maybe isn't being made clear on purpose? At what point do we, as the audience, say hey, let's work for this a little bit. Stello's tags mentioned that a lot of things are going to be lost on the casual viewer and I agree that that's the case, but none of us are casual viewers here.
Again, I don't know if there's a correct answer to this and a lot of this is just speculative and is not aimed at any one argument, interpretatation, or person. These are just "food for thought" thoughts.
