Himbo wrestler!reader who no one knows charles is dating, just spills the beans accidentally on live tv at one of his matches while charles is there while, charles is proud (his boyfriend just won) exasperated (his boyfriend just outed him on live tv by accident, not that he didn't think this would happen but still) and slightly disgusted (his boyfriend is supremely sweaty and is starting to stink) he does give himbo!reader a kiss since he did promise both that and some hanky panky time later, the other drivers except maybe perrie are confused as fuck on how they meet.
(Go wild on how they meet, reader might have gone to monaco as vacation or something) but yeah himbo reader plz.
In the ring and outed||Charles leclerc x male!himbo!wrestler
Featuring Seth Rollins, CM punk Cody Rhodes Alex Albon, Pierre Gasly, George Russell, Carlos sainz, Lando Norris, Oscar, Peastrie, Lewis Hamilton, Fernando, Alonso,
Summary — Charles boyfriend “accidentally” outs them to the world.
Word count —986
A/n—this has been in my drafts since January 😭😭 I Could never get it to work but I think I finally got it I can also come back with a little one shot of how they met
The roar of the crowd was still deafening as you stood in the center of the ring, chest heaving and sweat pouring off you in rivulets. The adrenaline buzzed in your veins, muscles screaming with exertion and triumph. You’d done it—you’d actually won.
“AND YOUR WINNER, BY PINFALL…THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION!” the announcer boomed, dragging out every syllable for dramatic effect. Pyro exploded at the entrance ramp, the lights flashing in time with the thundering music.
The ref raised your arm, and you grinned wide, hands shaking from the sheer rush of it all. Somewhere off to the side, you saw CM punk and Seth Rollins clapping begrudgingly, smirking with that kind of respect wrestlers only had for those who could really take a hit. Even Cody Rhodes gave you a nod from the edge of the curtain.
But you weren’t really paying attention to them. You were scanning the crowd, searching the sea of faces past the blinding overhead lights until you found him.
Charles stood off to the side, flanked by your team and looking impossibly out of place in his pristine white button-up and slacks, arms crossed and a grin tugging at his lips. He looked proud—no, smug. He even gave you a little wave when he saw you staring. Next to him, Pierre was whistling and elbowing him, mouthing something you couldn’t quite make out.
The announcer shoved a microphone into your hand, and you didn’t even think twice. The adrenaline had you, and before your brain caught up with your mouth, you were yelling into it.
“I told you! I told you I’d win, baby!” you shouted, pointing directly at Charles. His eyes widened just a fraction, and you barreled right on, words tumbling out of you like a freight train with no brakes. “And my boyfriend Charles said if I won, I get a kiss and maybe some hanky-panky later!”
The arena went dead silent. Like someone had just hit pause on a movie. You could’ve heard a pin drop.
The announcer’s jaw was on the floor. Some guy in the front row dropped his nachos. CM punk did a double-take so exaggerated you almost laughed. Seth Rollins’ eyebrows were somewhere near his hairline, and Cody Rhodes straight-up slapped a hand over his mouth to muffle his laughter.
Charles, for his part, was frozen, hand halfway to his mouth. Then his shoulders dropped, and he rubbed his eyes with the tips of his fingers, muttering something to himself in French that was probably not meant to be repeated. Pierre was cackling, literally bent over and holding his stomach.
But then—then he did the unthinkable. Charles dropped his hand, squared his shoulders, and started walking. The crowd erupted, camera flashes popping like firecrackers, and you saw him roll his eyes as he stepped under the ropes, brushing off some WWE official who tried to stop him.
“Mon Dieu, you are a mess,” Charles said when he reached you, eyeing the sweat practically pouring off your skin. His nose scrunched up, and he took a very deliberate step back. “And you stink.”
“I just fought three guys,” you laughed, voice still a little breathless. “And you did promise.”
He sighed dramatically, hands settling on his hips. “If I catch something from this, I swear…” But Charles leaned up—because of course he did, you had a good six inches on him—and pressed a quick, firm kiss to your lips.
The crowd lost it. Screams and cheers reverberated off the walls. You barely heard the announcer babbling into the microphone about, “Breaking news,” and, “Unexpected twist!” CM punk raised his eyebrows at Seth Rollins, who just shrugged. Cody shouted from the side, “Hey Charles, didn’t know you were into sweaty giants!” earning a middle finger from Charles that sent the crowd roaring even louder.
Charles wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, half-smiling and half-disgusted. “You are lucky I love you,” he muttered, shaking his head.
You grinned wide, practically glowing. “I am very lucky,” you agreed, grabbing his hand and raising it alongside yours to the delight of the audience. You swore you saw Logan Paul filming it from the barricade, mouthing no way.
Backstage, things got even more interesting. The locker room was buzzing, and your phone was practically on fire. The group chat was an absolute mess.
Pierre: I knew it. 😉
Carlos: ???????
Lando: I’m so confused.
George: CHARLES LECLERC? THE FORMULA 1 DRIVER?
Max: How the hell did that happen?
Oscar: Wait…so it’s not a joke?
Daniel: I need details. Like…all of them.
Alex: Charles, blink twice if you’re in danger.
Lewis: I’m not sure whether to be impressed or terrified.
Fernando: So…you like the big ones, huh?
Charles, still wiping sweat off his cheek with a handkerchief someone had given him, just shook his head as he read the messages. “They are so dramatic,” he muttered, fingers flying over the screen to type out responses.
You kicked back on the bench, still buzzing. “Guess the cat’s out of the bag, huh?”
Charles looked up, eyebrows raised. “Yes, and you managed to do it in the most public, dramatic way possible.”
“Would you expect anything less?”
He sighed but stepped closer, hands settling at your sides, avoiding the sweat stains with practiced ease. “No, I guess I wouldn’t,” he said with a smile, pressing one last kiss to your lips, this one deeper, lingering. “And I wouldn’t change it.”
You grinned against his mouth, hands coming to rest on his hips. “I still get that hanky-panky time, right?”
Charles chuckled, shaking his head. “You might need a shower first, mon amour.”
You winked. “Only if you join me.”
He groaned, pushing off you. “Mon Dieu, you are impossible.”

I love being an entertainer I really do and I have done hundreds of beautiful wonderful birthdays bUT I STILL CAN'T FORGET THE BITCH FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR
The bitch who booked me for a 3 hour pink party for her twin tomboy daughters, who picked a restaurant venue in the MIDDLE OF CENTRAL LONDON which had no parking available DESPITE me calling her beforehand to confirm there was parking and she just- lied about there being parking, so I ended up arriving 30 minutes late to the birthday due to NOT BEING ABLE TO PUT THE CAR ANYWHERE and her response was "you should have just taken public transport"
madame
I am bringing an entire disco, magician and performance set up
It barely fits in the car I drive
How do you expect me to squeeze that into a duffle bag and hop onto the London Underground
#good god that truly was the worst party ever#like- reduced me to tears bad#and it happened on an equally horrific day for different reasons#... I lowkey feel like I got to experience the worst day of the year at the start of January#cuz nothing has been worse since that day#so... yay I guess ^^;#but yeah fuck that bitch and fuck the massive review she left slagging me off#I need to let this go I NEED to let this go I am tryyyying to let this go

ICE raids are happening.
Any immigrants, no matter how long you have been a citizen of the USA, is at risk of being deported either out of the country as a whole or into what are basically concentration camps. Raids starting in Chicago, Illinois. and spreading to other major cities with high POC and Hispanic populations. The US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) have started raiding homes and families in California.
There are no "protected locations" as of January 21, 2025. Hospitals, schools, and churches are all at risk of being raided, where before these places were deemed safe and off limits to raids.
When it comes to spotting an ICE agent, look for these:
Weirdly neat/well kept hair (shaved heads, side parts, military burs for men; low buns, high ponytails, close cropped bobs for women)
Oversized jacket (long and bulky outerwear makes it easier to hide tools/equipment without being suspicious)
Both hands in pockets
Many undercover agents/cops buy cheap plain clothes off the racks so they aren’t seen in their own clothes. This can make their outfit seem awkward
Sweatshirts with the hood up
Sports apparel (warm up jacket, sweats, etc) with non-sports clothes (jeans, cargo shorts)
Cargo pants/shorts (usually full of items like their badge, flashlight, taser, pepper spray, backup handcuffs, zip ties)
Military or hiking style boots, sometimes chunky sneakers (extra points if none of it matches anything in their outfit)
Outline of a gun in their pants/shirt (easy to see when bending, leaning, or raising arms) (NO NOT SAY ANYTHING)
Overly friendly
Overly inquisitive
“How old are you” and “what do you know about this happening” are both red flags, along with generally odd and personal questions
Don’t fit in
Mismatched pairs in public spaces (usually cops do these things in pairs. They don’t talk to each other or acknowledge each other much, if at all)
DO NOT SAY ANYTHING UNTIL YOU ARE 100% SURE
YOUR BEST BET IS NOT TO SAY ANYTHING UNTIL THE SUSPECT STARTS ACTING OFF AND GETTING PUSHY
COPS ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO TELL YOU THAT THEY ARE UNDERCOVER
COPS CAN AND WILL LIE TO YOU
SCREAM “LA MIGRA” AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS
For protesting:
N95 masks
Respirator/gas mask if you have access to one
Water water water water water (I hate to say it, but disposable one use bottles are best here. If it comes to it, you need to be able to drop and run.) Use for flushing wounds, flushing eyes of tear gas, and of course drinking.
Snacks! You'll be doing a lot of walking and/or running and need to keep that energy up. Trail mix, dried fruit, nuts, granola bars, crackers, jerky/meat sticks, fruit snacks, candy, etc. Think of it like packing your lunchbox for a field trip.
Eyedrops (teargas is a bitch)
Goggles (I bring my old snowboarding goggles)
If you are wearing a t-shirt or have exposed skin, put on fake/temporary tattoos. If you are brought into something and they say you were there, showing a picture of you with the tattoos, show them where that tattoo would be and how there’s nothing there. How would you get rid of a giant flower on your forearm in 2 days anyways?
Wigs fall under the same category as tattoos. The person they're claiming to be you has a blonde bob and you have green hair past your shoulders. It also makes it possible to go with a completely different color without the use of hair dye. This means if they try to arrest you later and try to prove it was you by taking your hair and testing for dye, it won't come back the way they hope. (Thank you @violetrosepetals for this addition!)
Hide your hair. I tuck my hair into my beanie since it’s short. If you have longer hair, try to do the same or tuck it into your shirt. Balaclavas are also a good choice, as they cover both your face and hair.
Power bank
Chargers
Helmet. Any is fine, my personal choice is a skating helmet since they’re rounder and can take more damage, but tactical is also good
Hand sanitizer
Gloves with hard knuckles (tactical gloves). These pack a good punch even if you don't have the correct form. Don't have those? Wrist guards for roller skating/skateboarding work kinda like that too. More of a slapping motion, but still hurt like a bitch. Extra points if they're all scuffed up from use and falls.
Bandanas. Somebody might need one for their face or hair, maybe you need to get dirt off somebody’s face, maybe somebody got injured. They’re great for anything and everything.
Cash (try to stick to cash, your card can be tracked)
Medications if you take them. If you get arrested or happen to somehow be away for longer than expected after the protest, it’s always good to have emergency meds
FIRST AID ALL THE FIRST AID (Tourniquet, Quikclot, chest seal, trauma shears, gauze, bandages, duct tape, and all the usual stuff you’d have in there)
Good shoes. Boots and sneakers are your best choices. Not heels, not platforms, not sandals. Good boots or shoes that won't come off your feet too easily when you run. Steel toed shoes are a great option. Your toes won't be squashed, but also it'll hurt someone a lot more if you start kicking.
Spare socks. Trust me. You can use them to stop bleeding if it comes to it, but also you can put rocks in there and boom weapon. Also if the socks you're wearing get wet.
As much covering clothing as you can handle. Plain jeans, plain hoodie, plain t-shirt, keep yourself as anonymous as possible. Black and baggy is best.
Photocopy of your ID, not your real one.
Sunscreen!
Make sure your clothes have pockets, even if you have a bag. You want everything to be easily accessible.
Do not wear contact lenses. If tear gas is used, that will make everything so much worse. Wear your glasses or go blind. If you have overly unique or identifiable frames, goggles are your friend here. Get some goggles that will fit over your frames, preferably ones that are tinted.
If you use mobility aids, cover defining features. Logos, brand names, colors, stickers, all of it. Take some old plain t-shirt and tie it around your wheelchair’s backrest. Wrap your wheelchair frame in cling wrap, then duct tape, or plain black self adhering medical tape. Cover stickers on your cane or crutches the same way. Electric chair? You have a little more work, but you can do it. Wrap it up. Same idea. Walker? Same thing. Cover. It. All.
If you are bringing a bag, make sure that bag is as plain as possible. No pins. No patches. No keychains. Except maybe a pride flag so people know which team you're playing on.
Scarf or keffiyeh if you have one. They have many uses!
Write a reliable phone number (of someone who is not at the protest with you) on your body. On the off chance you get arrested, that is your emergency contact.
Pocket knife.
Pepper spray/mace/bear spray
if you get tear gassed, shake around first before using water. Most tear gas is more of a powder and water has a high likelihood of just spreading it around. (Thank you @actually-a-bread-loaf for this addition!)
Tennis rackets also work wonderfully for chucking tear gas canisters back at those throwing them. Anybody asks, you're going out to play tennis with friends later. Baseball bats also work! (Thank you @azul-nova-24 for this addition!)
Anything you can throw. Soup for my family.
IF YOU CAN, LEAVE YOUR PHONE AT HOME
IF YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT WITH YOU, TURN OFF LOCATION SERVICES ON ALL APPS AND TURN OFF BIOMETRICS (FACE ID AND FINGERPRINT) SO YOU CAN ONLY UNLOCK YOUR PHONE WITH YOUR PASSWORD
COPS CAN FORCE YOU TO OPEN YOUR PHONE WITH YOUR FINGERPRINT OR FACE ID
MAKE SURE SOMEBODY KNOWS GENERALLY WHERE YOU ARE
If you see a potential or active raid, take pictures and note the time and location. Post online if you can, as well.
You have the right to remain silent. State that you wish to remain silent. Avoid giving information about anybody's immigration status. You have the right to refuse to sign anything before speaking to an attorney. You have the right to refuse searches of your car, your home, and yourself. Schools do not collect a child's immigration status.
I do not want to scare anybody, but this is what life is right now. That man does not care how long you have been a citizen of this country. If you are not a white, cisgender, heterosexual, Christian male, you are seen as less than by men in power. You are not less than. You are a threat to them, and they are scared. Keep it that way.
Even if you're not currently protesting, it's good to know this just in case. Things are happening very quickly, and there is a very high chance of it changing very quickly within the next four years.
Here's the link to my post on what to bring in terms of first aid.
If you cannot attend protests, that’s fine. Do what’s best for you. Even just reposting information helps.

There's obviously a lot of talk about Tumblr being shut down, which does not appear to be happening, but do you think the re-organization will be enough to keep Tumblr running indefinitely? Or is this maybe the start of an eventual shut down of Tumblr?
What's super clear is our previous approach wasn't working. It didn't turn around the business to make enough money to support the investment of infrastructure and staff needed to run Tumblr, and a lot of users were unhappy with some of the changes we tried. There have been a few staff changes within the team, but basically what we're saying is starting January 1, 2024 we'll try a different structure with smaller, more focused teams working on the core parts of Tumblr that people say they want improved. We'll sunset or rollback some things we tried that didn't work.
I'm advocating for this change because I think it has a good chance at success. I don't do anything hoping to fail. There are lots of examples of products with hundreds of millions more MAUs and smaller teams than Tumblr currently has, and there are amazing examples like OpenAI and Telegram running circles around much bigger players with small teams. That's what we hope to replicate.
The good news is as well, since people leaving Tumblr aren't being laid off, they're just switching to other teams within Automattic, if something doesn't work or breaks we can always pull them back in to work on it.

It is the 19th century and you are returning home by ship. Before you embark, you happen to find a glowing shell abandoned by the docks. It seems that the sea creatures are searching for it. Or maybe it's something else they're interested in. content: gender neutral reader, violence, dubious consent, based on Return of the Obra Dinn
January 1802 What's the matter with me, I wonder? As if my luggage wasn't heavy enough already, I had to drag around a big shell of sorts. Found it by the docks while I waited for my ship to arrive. It has a strange glow to it, this shell. Can't quite place it.
January 1802 Cheeky bastards! The seamen are such a flirt. From the moment I stepped onto the main deck, a handful of them haven't dropped the whistles and stares. One of the topmen - I recall he's Scottish? - he's been pestering me about the ship. "I'll show ye around, can't find a better guide," he says. His mates laugh and clap to his petty attempts.
February 1802 Some of the sailors are dying from lung illness. I was on the orlop deck, playing cards with the three Russians, when the surgeon rushed to one of the cabins ahead. "If it was contagious, we'd all have it by now. Damned if I know what it is, or where it comes from," I could hear him groan. I wondered out loud if I might catch it myself, but then I noticed one of 'em rascals trying to cheat the cards. February 1802 I saw it again tonight. Ever since we launched from Falmouth, as soon as the sun sets, there's an eerie glimmer in the distance. It reminds me of this damned shell. Are my eyes playing tricks on me? Oh, the sea is so terrifying in the dark. There's nothing but black stretching all around. My window is low; whenever the waves break against it, the wooden walls let out a groan that awakens me from the deepest slumber. Surgeon gave me pills to sleep. The creaks of the ship sound like a weeping maiden. February 1802 I think the cursed glow is getting closer. I couldn't sleep anymore, so I snuck onto the main deck. Scotsman found me wandering towards the bow, so he quietly hoisted me up by the waist. I thought he'd tell the Captain, but he sat me on the lower rigging, next to him, and we listened to the waves. I was afraid I'd fall off, but he kept a steady hand on me. I wish I could tell him about the light stalking our ship. Would he think I'm mad?
February 1802 Second Mate returned today on a small boat. We heard shouts coming from upstairs, so we rushed to see what was happening. Bosun had his pistol readied next to the Captain, and the sailors lifted the cargo from below. I thought I was dreaming at first. Some creatures, unholy beings, were caught in the net. They had the body of a human, but thick, fish tails covered in spikes. One of the Formosan passengers muttered something in Chinese, and some of the tail spikes suddenly pierced him dead. The old Miss next to me fainted on the spot, and the stewards urged us to leave. Right before I turned, I noticed one of the beasts pointing at me. It had a monstrous grin on its face. Oh, what a sight! The Scotsman guided me away, but I can't forget those eyes. Was it malice? Such an intense stare, burning straight into my soul. Now that I'm writing all this, a memory has come to mind: the creature had the same shell as mine, dangling from its neck.
February 1802 The pills no longer work. I can't rest anymore. Every time I close my eyes, I hear its wretched voice, calling me from the lazarette. That's where they locked those sea monsters. It sings nonsense, blasphemous lies. We're not fated soulmates. I've nothing to do with those devils. I should've never picked up the shell. I can only pray we reach land soon.
March 1802 God, oh God, what disaster has befallen us? I don't have much time. The gun deck is in shambles, more than half the crew dead. Underwater beasts have crawled their way up our ship; strange humans with spears, saddled on top of crabs larger than I've ever seen. The poor midshipman, oh, a young boy! He set himself on fire to stop the nightmarish fiend. Threw the lamp across the floor, and the flames swallowed both of them up. I scrambled up on the main deck, but there was no peace to be found; colossal tentacles sprawled around the ship, pulling the rigging apart, tearing humans like insects. The Captain's wife was struck by a falling pillar, I saw her crumble right before me. Scotsman is still alive, but his arm is missing a good chunk of it. I don't know where to find the surgeon.
March 1803 They left. They took the last boat, I only found out this morning. I tried to join them, but one of the sailors stopped me. "Witch," he shouted at me, "the beast down by the cargo hold screams your name. You must've called it here, brought this curse upon us." I don't know what he's talking about. Tonight I'm going to the lazarette, I can no longer bear the calling. This blasted fiend, oh, he's ruined me. I'll rot on this wreck. Mother, I don't think I'll ever reach the shore.
Your steps are hesitant as you tiptoe your way around the dried blood and debris, until you reach the locked chambers. The door is bent and folded away, as if hit by a great force. You do indeed notice the round prints against the rusty surface: giant suckers from a blasphemous being.
There he is, the wicked varmint who plagues your sleep! A pale creature is propped up, halfway out of the water, welcoming you with a toothy grin. The shell around his neck glows mockingly.
You throw your own shell at him. The small, ivory object rolls with a hollow thud.
"Is this what you wanted, damned monster?"
"Why, what am I to do with two?"
His voice is harsh and deep, rapping against your eardrums, scratching the inside of your head.
"I've been waiting for you. Can't leave this place without my beloved, can I?"
"There you go again with this nonsense. Villain! Drown me if you must, but spare me your deceit."
His smile falters, eyes narrowing in a frown.
"Is that how you find my love? Some petty lie told by a charlatan? Ungrateful brat, who do you think freed you from their shackles? Who do you suspect has summoned the leviathan, from the deepest trenches of the sea, to save your mortal soul?"
"The kraken left with the storm," you counter as the blood drains from your face. Could it be that you were to blame, after all?
"No, it left after the bargain."
He pulls himself up and sits on the edge of his former cage. You observe his features in mild awe: the texture of his skin, the dark locks of hair reaching all the way to the tail, the spikes breaking out of the thick, hard scales.
"What bargain," you ask fearfully.
"The last ones are free to escape, if they leave you to me."
Why, your horrified expression is not quite something he expected. Surely one must feel relief once their freedom has been guaranteed. And not just any kind of freedom - you've been returned to your soulmate.
He's spent weeks chasing the currents, trailing the faint glow in the distance. He hasn't stopped once, tail pushing forward to the promise of a reunion.
Yet, you seem unsure. Perhaps his approach has been too hurried, too nonchalant. You need a little bit of convincing, and he happens to be a master of courting.
His thorax suddenly expands, and you can almost hear the twisting sound of his ribs cracking and breaking under the pressure. A sweet voice rolls out of his mouth, a song you've never heard before. Your heart pounds tremendously, threatening to burst out of your chest, and a foreign panic floods your senses.
Despite your desire to flee, your lids are heavy, eyes slowly closing. Through your lashes, you can discern the beast crawling towards you, the same defiant grin plastered on his face.
It's time for you to come home.

Simon can't move on from Johnny's death…
"Johnny's dead."
You remember the line clear as day.
In fact, you remember almost every single detail about that day.
The weather had been docile, a change from the feverish heat the day before.
The air was slightly damp.
The weatherman chimed that a promising stormcloud was brewing in the distance, which could bring a couple of inches of rain, typical of January.
Your neighbor's son came to your front door, meekly asking to retrieve his ball from your backyard.
The postman had hand-delivered your new dress, complimenting the new planters Simon built in the front yard.
Your favorite body wash that smelt of fruit ran out.
You had made pie, apple instead of your usual cherry.
You had accidentally poured too much cinnamon in the apple mixture, shooing Simon away when you finally pulled it out of the oven because it was a "bad pie."
Simon had never heard such ridiculous words.
No pie is a bad pie.
He shoveled a spoonful into his mouth as you went to answer the house phone, quietly laughing as he hissed at the hotness.
Then it happened.
"Johnny's dead," the voice on the other end of the line announced, shattering the tranquility of the moment.
They were the only words that flowed through the phone line.
The very words you had selfishly cursed for the past year.
The words that had single-handedly eroded everything you and Simon had built together.
Because that day, on every level except physical, the Simon you knew had died with Johnny.
His mind merged with the very soil Johnny lay in, leaving his physical body on the surface while his soul wandered beyond your grasp.
So out of touch, so disconnected from reality.
Simon had become a shell of a human.
He wasn't living, merely surviving—going through the motions.
It was devasting to watch the man for whom you gave your heart slowly disengage right before your eyes.
Bit by bit, piece by piece.
Until there was no more man left to see.
Just mere flesh and bones.
It was such unfamiliar territory since Simon relied on you as he relied on oxygen to breathe.
You were his sustenance, his reservoir.
An eternal flame that burned with an unyielding passion.
Now it seems he couldn't get far enough away from you.
However, it wasn't always that way.
The evolution of his disconnect hadn't been linear; it was ever-changing.
Some days, he would act just like your sweet Simon before; other days, you felt like he resented you.
Resented you for what?
You're not entirely sure.
You didn't kill Johnny.
But with how Simon reacted to your mere presence, it felt as though you might as well have.
You can still recall Simon's noticeable change, apart from his defining silence, which occurred exactly two weeks after Johnny's death.
The bitter taste of anise, accompanied by the sharp taste of mint, coated your tongue; experimenting with new cocktail recipes had become something of a hobby for you.
Kept you occupied while Simon worked in his office.
You had insisted he take some time off, some real time off.
Price wouldn't let him return to work, so he supplemented by hiding in his office all day and doing paperwork and other such tasks.
It wasn't entirely what you had in mind, but it was the best he could give you.
He would have gone truly mad without his work to drown out his thoughts.
So, you bit your tongue every morning as he trudged out of the sanctity of the warm bed you shared, leaving you alone in the silence, and headed straight to the room across from yours that had him so consumed.
It was funny, really.
You always thought that perhaps a pretty woman would eventually come around and attempt to steal your Simon from your hands, not a spare room with cream walls.
Digression aside, you selfishly enjoyed the time alone.
Simon would only speak a couple words to you daily, the silence between you growing thicker with each passing day.
You fault him none, though it was exhausting trying to help someone who despises being helped to any degree, even if they so clearly needed it.
That was why you enjoyed the alone time.
Though it could be occasionally dull.
So, finding a hobby to fill your time was not just a choice but a necessity for your sense of fulfillment.
Even if it consisted of the occasion day drinking.
You'll repent later.
Now, you just needed the burning taste of rum down your throat.
Your face sourced at the combination before you scribbled, 'absolute shit,' on a small notebook you kept to keep track of all of your combinations and rated them in excruciating detail.
Hearing his office door creak open, you shoved the notebook into your pocket.
Not because you cared if he saw, but because his office door opening earlier than ten-forty-five startled you, abruptly shifting your emotions.
You heard his heavy boots thunk against the vinyl flooring, inching ever so close to the kitchen where you stood.
Your heart quickened from anticipation, and you tried to steady your breathing, not wanting to give away your guilt.
"You eaten?" His voice is deep and strained as he stands still across the island.
You stay completely still, refusing to budge even a little. Instead, you choose to shake your head from side to side slowly.
"Can pick up pizza?" He suggests.
His presence now stirred a strange mix of emotions within you.
He would never lay a finger on you.
It was the news that had thrown everything off balance, leaving you both in a state of discomfort and awkwardness.
Johnny was dead.
And you could feel his haunt everywhere.
"Pizza's good," you say softly, pretending to adjust a tilted bottle of tequila.
An uneasy silence lingers between you for a moment, and then you finally turn to meet his gaze.
He looks…like shit.
You let out a soft sigh as you take him in fully.
He has dark circles under his eyes, tinged with shades of purple and blue.
His once bright blue eyes have lost their luster, and his lids now hang heavy and fatigued.
His hair is unkempt, and his beard is starting to grow, giving it a scraggly appearance.
"You don't look so good," you find yourself saying without much thought.
"Just tired," he mutters, swiping his car keys off the counter.
You move to stand. "You've been working like crazy," you say, gently pressing your hand into his shoulder.
He tightens at your touch.
Whole body going taut.
You try not to take it personally.
You fail.
"Yeah…I, I'll get the pizza," he murmurs, moving towards the front door.
Then he leaves without a goodbye.
You thought it was just bullshit.
What the articles said about coping with a loss.
Dealing with grief.
They all seemed like distant concepts.
But, he was so evidently disconnecting from you.
You felt your head swarm at the admission.
Simon was isolated, lost in a vast ocean of grief and despair.
And you didn't know if you were enough to reel him back in.
Three weeks later, you're cozied on your sofa, a blanket draped over your legs, the soft cushions embracing you in their cozy warmth.
The clouds, heavy with water, have transformed from soft white to an ominous smoky gray, a stark contrast to your cozy sofa and warm blanket.
You have your favorite tea in your favorite mug, a book wide open though long forgotten on the cushion next to you.
Your eyes are now captivated by a trashy British reality television show, a guilty pleasure that adds to the coziness of your setting.
Usually, Simon and you snuggle up and watch the show.
Always on the edge of your seats, eagerly anticipating the outcome.
Will the man stay on the island, sacrificing his share of the prize fund, to be with the woman he's grown close to?
Or will he choose the money over her?
It's always more enthralling with Simon.
Though, you're not sure where he is.
He didn't say where he was going when he left about half an hour ago.
And you didn't bother asking.
Maybe that makes you a lousy wife.
Or perhaps, you're just exhausted.
It feels like you're tearing your own flesh, trying to get him to answer anything.
You guessed the latter.
The television crackles to life, the sound of synthesizers and strings filling the room, creating a sense of suspense.
"Henry's decision will be…" The host's voice begins.
You find yourself sitting up, the hot cup of tea between your hands, and your eyes glued to the television.
"…revealed right after the break," the host chimes as the camera cuts to a condom commercial.
You sink into the couch with a deep sigh as you hear the front door open.
The thud of heavy boots moves into the kitchen, near earshot.
You turn to see Simon grabbing a glass and slipping it under the tap for some water.
Your teeth dig at the flesh of your cheek, your foot steadily tapping on the vinyl flooring.
He takes a deep sip of the water, sucking it between his teeth and swishing it around his mouth before he spits it back in the sink, running the water to clean out the saliva now lining the metal sink.
You'd rather be shot than deal with the taciturn.
It was egregious.
You felt awkward in your own home.
With your own husband.
"Simon," you say with nerves on your tongue.
He turns towards you, taking a proper sip of the water.
"Sit. Our favorite show is on," you chime, a warm small growing on your lips.
He shakes his head. "Not feelin' it tonight, sweetheart."
"Come on," you urge, pointing towards the television with your pointer finger. "We're about to find out if Henry is staying or leaving."
"I'm—I'm not in the mood," he mutters, only with slight annoyance.
You decide to push your luck. "Come on. Would be nice to see you."
"Stop asking," he cuts sharply, setting the full glass in the sink.
You narrow your eyes slightly. "Why are you being so mean?"
"Christ, I already said I wasn't in the God-damned mood."
Ice and venom coat his words as his hand slams into the countertop.
He didn't yell, but you wish he did.
So, you could get some type of God-damn emotion from him.
Instead, his voice was low, commanding.
A voice a lieutenant would use on his inferiors.
Not on his wife.
His eyes widen as your lips purse.
"Well then," you murmur, eyes still on his. "Guess that settles it."
He releases a shallow breath, opening his mouth before shutting it promptly.
Your eyes squint as you take a deep gulp.
But instead of being a man and apologizing, he leaves for his office like a fucking coward.
You're left there, eyes still on the spot where he stood, cheek now bleeding onto your tongue as the television announces, "...leaving the villa."
And you can't even find it in yourself to care.
It feels awkward when you finally gather enough courage to slither into the bedroom.
You had been paralyzed to the couch even a couple hours after the whole ordeal.
Not a word was breached between either of you.
He had shut himself in his office while you had become one with the couch.
What a match made in fucking heaven.
You slip into some soft pajamas, then into the bed, the heavy comforter offering you comfort.
You rest your weary head on the pillow, eyes already heavy with emotional exhaustion.
Before you fall into sleep, you hear the same thud of his boots streaking along to the bedroom, where you catch a glimpse of him slipping something into his sock drawer.
The warm brown of the book cover in his hand catches your eye.
There was no mistaking what it read on the front: large, gold Cardo font with a cross hovering above the text.
"Holy Bible."
He shoves some loose papers overtop of the Bible and shuts the drawer, moving the flick of the light switch off.
His boots came off in a thud as he slipped off his shirt and jeans, slipping into the bed far from you.
Not a word was shared.
You should sleep, but instead, your mind is tormented by what you saw.
Had Simon prayed?
Prayed to a God he didn't even believe in.
If he hit his knees, splayed open the Holy doctrine, and prayed within the hopes that, by some miracle, he should get to see his brother again.
"Simon," you murmur lightly, regretting breaking the silence as his name leaves your tongue.
"Yeah?" He asks, back to you.
"Were you...praying?" Your question comes out fatigued.
"Ye—Yeah," he mutters skittishly.
You say nothing more.
Your weary eyes drift closed as you pull your blanket taut against your face, peacefully drifting off.
That night, you're plagued by a disturbing dream. Your teeth fall out one by one, leaving only protruding gums. A looming figure stands behind you, tightening your throat with fear.
You spring awake at 3:37 am.
You are drenched in your own perspiration, eyes lingering over to where Simon should be.
He's gone.
You should feel slightly relieved, but you only feel overwhelming dread.
Your skin crawls with a sense of unease, as if something is lurking just out of sight, watching you.
You blink, and it's March.
Two months since Johnny's passing.
You thought the time would pass achingly slow, but time has unfortunately moved forward at an exceptional pace.
It always felt like time should stop.
People should stop.
Because why do they get to carry on and lead an everyday life as if you aren't getting swallowed, eaten alive by the confines of your own home?
It's not fucking fair.
You are not only having to mourn the loss of a good friend but the loss of your own husband, who's still breathing.
It felt like some cruel joke was being played on you that you found no humor in.
But, regardless of the loss, you had to keep moving.
For yourself.
Or you'd probably drive yourself into madness, and nothing good ever came from a mad woman, or so they say anyway.
It was a Friday night, and you had decided to try a new recipe from your grandmother's cookbook.
You couldn't remember the last time you had a homecooked meal that wasn't full of M.S.G and far too many calories.
But tonight, you were about to change that.
With a simple button swipe, your groceries appeared at your front door, and you got straight into it.
The large russet potatoes were peeled and cut into chunks. They were then plopped in heavily salted boiling water and smashed along with many tablespoons of butter and cream.
Chicken thighs were seasoned and marinated for half an hour, not a minute less, before being seared on cast iron.
The asparagus and parsnips were lightly oiled before being pan-seared, and then they were sprinkled with salt, pepper, and parmesan cheese.
And before you knew it, you had transformed a handful of ingredients into a feast that was elegantly presented on some fine china you snagged from the cabinet for you and Simon.
You took a seat, admiring your hard work and savoring the delightful aroma of the chicken as it filled the room.
Hearing the same thud of the boots you had come to ignore coming from down the hall, your head shot up to see Simon with his keys in hand.
"Where are you going?" You ask, curiosity and a bit of disappointment evident in your tone.
"Out," his voice was snipped as he marched towards the front door, not sparing the dinner a glance.
You sit up with a frown. "I made dinner, Simon."
"Not hungry," he says mechanically, like he was planning on shooing away any plans you offered. "Don't wait up for me," he murmurs, shoving on his coat, moving out of the front door, and pulling it closed.
And suddenly, the optimism you had clung to like a lifeline died, wholly and truly, leaving you in a void of despair.
You sit at that comedically large dining table for what feels like ages, pushing your vegetables around with your fork until they're practically mush on your plate.
There's nowhere else to go.
You feel utterly stuck as if the weight of the disappointment has rooted you to the spot.
Your head flings to the front door, as keys get shoved into the keyhole, before the door is pushed open to reveal a flushed Simon.
"Where have you been?" Your voice is warm yet firm.
He doesn't respond, only throwing his keys into the bowl and moving to the fridge to grab a cold bottle of water.
"Simon," his name comes off your tongue almost in warning.
"What?" He turns to you, face red from the cold.
"Where the fuck have you been?" You snap, the sound of your chair scraping against the floor as you stand up, adding to the tension in the room.
His eyes widen at your tone.
Your mind was ablaze with conflicting emotions.
Tongue hot with accusations.
"Were you with another woman?" You tack on, crossing your arms over your chest.
"Christ, no," he says immediately with a scoff. "Why would you even ask me that?"
You knew it was ridiculous.
He may be a fool, but he wasn't a cheater.
"I never have a God-damned clue where you go!" You step from around the table, voice rising. "You're my husband!"
"You're my wife!" He tosses the bottle of water into the sink. The plastic crinkles against the metal, as his voice rises with yours.
"Then act like it!" You yell, throwing your hands in the air.
You're both practically heaving with anger.
Seathing with so much untouched and unsaid verbiage.
The silence hangs between your two before you hurdling yourself into his arms, slamming your lips onto his with so much devotion and heat.
His hands grip your cheeks tight as his tongue slides over your teeth and any piece of flesh he can.
You pant into his mouth as his hands move to grip the backs of your thighs, quickly pulling you up to lock your legs around his waist.
He moves to place you on the dinner table, standing between your legs, and you reach out behind you, sweeping your plate full of mushy food and wine glass onto the floor to make space.
The glass shattered, and the china burst into a thousand tiny pieces with a loud crash.
Neither of you cares in the slightest.
His fingers fidget with the hem of your loose top as your lips practically turn blue from losing circulation.
It had been months since you and Simon had been intimate.
Well, since...
You didn't think you needed it during this time in mourning.
Hardly ever thought about it.
Because you two rarely exchanged words, the silence between you became a barrier.
How could you be expected to share such an intimate moment when your words seemed to fail you?
Somehow, you found yourself yearning for it, a deep-seated longing that you couldn't explain or ignore.
It felt like an insatiable desire you couldn't shake.
And when his teeth sunk into your lips, you felt the soft, erotic sting of your skin break; all bets were off.
"Simon," you mewl into his mouth. "Please."
He doesn't answer in words.
Just moves to remove his belt, tossing it to the side where the leather slaps over the broken china and mushed vegetables.
Strips himself of his jeans, boxers following suit.
His fingers move back to grip the hem of your shirt, pulling it over your head, throwing it on the table, lips moving to skim between the dip of your breast as he moves to grip on the fat of your waist.
Your hands move to thread through the back of his air, earning a deep groan from him that rumbles against your skin.
"Shouldn't be touchin' you like this," he mutters into your skin, rough hand skimming down your stomach to slide under your pajama shorts.
"Why?" Your breathing is labored as his fingers push down into your cunt, underwear sticking to the skin due to your dripping arousal.
His finger presses into you further making you release a shallow moan.
He opens his mouth to speak before promptly shutting it, hesitating for a moment before finally speaking.
"Just fuckin' yelled at ya, bug," he grits out the first part, like he's angry at himself for ever raising his voice, no matter if you did the same thing, then says your nickname warmly.
"I yelled first," your voice is sweet like honeydew as your hand moves under his chin, gently forcing his chin up so he can look you in the eyes, and he wants to kill himself even more.
You're an angel.
A fucking divine entity, a wellspring of goodwill.
He doesn't deserve you now.
He's not sure he ever has.
"Needed to hear it," he mumbles, slipping your shorts and panties off in one pull, eyes taking in your arousal-soaked cunt. "Don't deserve ya," he murmurs, with a hint of despair.
"You do," you assure, sitting up more to kiss the corners of his mouth.
He turns his head to the side, almost in guilt; you don't have time to question why before he's lining himself up with your entrance, hand coming to rest on the back of your neck for support as he slips inside you gently.
There's no rush, no urgency to get off.
His movements are slow, unrushed.
This wasn't just a quick fuck.
It felt like he was trying to get a tangible connection to you.
Just bodies melting into each other with ease and familiarity.
Your moans echo off the walls.
Fingernails digging into Simon's back through his shirt.
The barrier does nothing to meddle with your touch.
Nothing could ever diminish your touch.
He lets out a curse, baring his teeth as his fingers dig into the tender flesh on your hips.
His name comes off your sweet tongue in a plea.
You're about to fucking erupt.
Stomach on fire, skin slick.
He shoves his finger in your mouth, collecting some saliva before using that as a lubricant to stimulate your clit.
You let out a string of incoherent words as the stimulation hits you everywhere, all at once.
His head dips back as he comes inside you, eyes shutting closed.
Your breathing is ragged as you both come down from your highs.
However, when you breathe, you feel tightness in your chest.
A squeezing pain that only elongates.
"You okay?" Simon presses his hand into your shoulder.
You nod weakly. "Must have overexerted myself," you jest.
You suck in a deep breath, desperate for more air or something to suppress the pressure you feel.
Simon quips a brow, opting to move away from you to grab you some cool water. "Drink," he commands, nudging the glass to you.
The water feels like a relief flowing down your throat and is so refreshing you can feel it move through every vein in your body.
"Better?" He asks warmly.
"Better," you agree, nodding as water drips down your lip and onto your chin.
But you can't shake the feeling something is off.
It almost feels like an impending doom looming over you.
"Feel like a shower?" He taps your thigh in question.
You nod with a smile, forgetting what you were even concerned with.
You shake off the feeling of doom as you wander behind Simon to the shower.
But doom is inevitable, a fate that cannot be escaped.
The following month, April, brought fickle weather with chilly rain and bright blue skies.
Along with the fruition of tulips and daffodils came your plan.
To finally speak to Simon about Johnny.
Even just thinking his name made you feel like you were indulging in some dark code.
It felt wrong.
Even though it was far from.
You had planned to talk to him a week ago, but you chickened out at the last minute, your fear of confrontation winning over your resolve, instead opting for an awkward conversation about cats.
Safe to say he had no idea you had other objectives at play.
Just thought you were a little kooky.
He had been more receptive to conversations since your sex-capade.
Felt connected to you again.
What a perfect time to ruin it all.
He's sitting at the dining table eating a sandwich.
With no pickles because he despises them.
You smile softly.
You know him so well.
Approaching him slowly, you pull out a chair adjacent to his.
"Nice weather," he says, looking out the window at the blue skies.
"It is," you hum in agreement, shifting in your seat.
"Might go for a run later." He takes a bite of a sandwich, and you chew on your cheek. "You want to come?"
"We should talk," you blurt, deciding you need to cut the cord as soon as possible before you chicken out again.
He quips a brow, sets down the sandwich, and wipes the crumbs off on a rag. "About?"
You chew on your lip nervously. "Johnny."
His eyes lock to yours in an instant, and his chewing halts.
And you can feel anxiety claw up your throat.
"You just—you seem," you try, stumbling over your words.
You knew you should have practiced more.
"We aren't having this conversation." His tone is low and carries a finality.
"It might help if you talked to me." There's desperation in your words.
"Stop," he holds up his hand like he's giving you a fucking command.
"I'm not a fucking dog," you grit. "You can't just give me a command to shut up."
"I know you're not a damn dog," he mutters, his voice a strained whisper.
"Good. Glad you could clear that up," you sit back in your chair, crossing your arms over your chest. "Since you can't clear up anything else."
You knew you shouldn't have said that the second it slipped off your tongue.
It's defensive.
You were supposed to sympathize, not defend.
He stands up abruptly. "Not taking this shit."
"What shit, Simon?" You throw your hands up in a shrug. "Your wife asking you to speak to her?" You let out a dry laugh. "That shit?"
He moves around to swipe his keys from the bowl, not uttering a word.
"Where the hell are you going?" You stand, moving over to him.
His eyes bore into your jaw clenched. "Anywhere but here."
And he was gone again.
Just leaves when times get too trying, apparently.
You stand there, your eyes brimming with tears.
What was to become of you two?
You let out an anguished yell before going to your room, hands planted firmly into the soft mattress, before letting your emotions overcome you.
You sink onto the floor, head in your hands, as you prop yourself on your elbows.
Knees becoming bare from the shitty carpet while your shirt moistens from your tears.
This—this can't be it.
What was life to be without your husband?
You'd be subject to destitution.
A life of isolation, a terrifying prospect, filled with unbearable loneliness.
Bile crawls up your throat, threatening to escape as the thoughts flood your mind.
Your heart pounded violently, threatening to crack your ribs.
You can't breathe.
Throat too tight to get any air through.
A stabbing pain erupted in your chest like it had before, but this was worse.
You clench your chest, tears spilling faster due to the physical pain.
You don't even process Simon hovering over you, hand clenching your shoulder.
Your head turns, and you see his mouth moving, eyes wide in concern, but you can't process what he's saying.
You can only focus on the crushing sensation in your chest.
His eyes are scrambling, watching you push your mouth into the mattress to release a deep, tormented groan.
You were in unbearable pain.
He wastes no time grabbing and holding you in his arms, bridal style.
You don't have it in you to scream at him.
You just sob into his chest.
This was surely going to kill you.
He grabs a stray blanket and tosses it on you quickly before swiping his keys off the counter. He then moves outside and places you in the car.
He drives in a rush, reckless.
His eyes darting over to you, curled up in a ball in the passenger seat, sobbing, hand resting over your chest.
He doesn't know what to do.
He can't crawl in your body and demand your body to be kind to you.
So, instead he brushes his hand over your wrist, attmepting to give you some comfort and he pushes the pedal further to get you to the hospital.
Desperate to heal you.
He pulls into the ER parking lot, not bothering to straighten his wheels, sprints around to your side and gently places you in his arms, all but sprinting to the ER door.
The receptionist greets you before she hears your cries and pleas.
"She, she needs help," Simon frantically says. "Please."
Nurses flood out from the large door that seperates you and Simon from the rooms.
"Sir, you'll need to wait out here," one of them says, helping you into a wheelchair and wheeling you back through the door.
"She's my fucking wife!" He shouts, though to no avail.
The door shuts in his face, shoulders dropping in defeat.
He doesn't sit, he can't.
The thought of him being comfortable while you're in agony disturbs him.
He instead stalks around the room, hands wiping across his face.
Surely, this wasn't...
Could it have worked so soon?
He grabs a trashcan, promptly puking in it at the thought.
It, it has to be a grim coincidence.
Yeah, yeah.
Has to be.
He waits in the waiting room for what feels like ages before a doctor comes in asking for a Simon Riley.
"Is she okay?" Simon searches the doctor's face.
"She's stable," the doctor says, his voice steady and reassuring. "For now."
"For now?" Simon echos the question.
"We ran some blood tests and did an ECG on her heart," the doctor reads over his papers.
"And?" Simon says impatiently.
"Does she have any familial history of heart disease in her family?" the doctor asks, scribbling on the paper.
"No, no," Simon stutters. "Why?"
"The ECG results showed that your wife has coronary heart disease," the doctor says.
Simon's eyes widen, his fear palpable. "Heart disease? What—what does this mean?"
"The arteries in her heart have become too narrow, which reduces blood flow to the heart. There are treatments available to manage the condition and improve her quality of life," the doctor reassures Simon as he sees him start to get frantic.
"Are you talking about fucking surgery?" Simon's hands move through his hair anxiously, his body tense with worry.
"Not necessarily. We can start with medication," the doctor says confidently. "A standard dose of Atorvastatin daily can help manage her cholesterol and fat levels." The doctor messily scribbles the prescription on a paper and tears it off.
"Along with some lifestyle changes to help manage her condition. If needed, we can discuss other options, like angioplasty or surgery. But first, let's see how she does with the medication." He hands over the prescription to Simon.
Simon grabs the paper, nodding his head. "Alright. Can I, can I see her?" His voice is desperate.
"Of course," the doctor nods his head reassuringly. "Follow me."
The doctor leads Simon through the hallway until he reaches your room, carefully opening the door to let Simon step through.
His stomach drops, a wave of concern washing over him, when he sees you.
Eyes swollen and red from your cries.
They hang low from your apparent exhaustion.
"Simon," you greet him with a weak smile, the familiarity in your voice comforting him.
Your voice is weak and raspy.
You look sick.
And he can't handle it.
"Hey, I'm okay," you assure, as you see him examine you, worry written on his face.
"I know you are, bug," tears brimming his eyes; he moves over to you, gripping your hand tightly. "I know you are."
To you, it felt like a source of comfort amidst the chaos.
And that's why Simon said it.
But deep down, he knew.
Nothing could undo what he had done.
No amount of praying, begging, or bargaining could change that.
He had selfishly sealed your fate.
And now, all he could do was wait.
It had been two months since your diagnosis, July.
Things had been decent in that regard.
No better, no worse.
The medication proved helpful.
It reduced the pain you get in your chest, so that was nice.
Over the two months, you persistently urged Simon to join you in counseling.
For your sake.
For the sake of your marriage.
At the beginning of July, he finally agreed, a hopeful sign after a turbulent period that had you ready to leave him.
"What are you doing?" Simon roughly asks as he follows you to your bedroom, hands anxiously running through his graying hair.
"I'm fucking leaving, Simon," your voice quakes, tears spilling down your face as you struggle to pack a duffle bag.
"Don't, don't do that," he stumbled over his words, moving over to you. "Just, just calm down," he placed his hand on your shoulder in comfort.
You shook his hand off before eyeing him. "Calm down?" You repeat his words. "You want me to calm down?"
"Yes. Please," he pleads, hand hovering on the drawer handle.
"You want me to calm down?" You repeat again, your voice dripping with anger. "Fuck you."
His eyes widen; clearly, he's taken aback.
You finish packing, wiping your tears with the back of your hand as you lean against the nightstand. "Simon, you need help," you say, grabbing your wallet. "You need to see someone. Anyone."
He exhales a sharp breath. "Fine."
Your head shoots up, eyes narrowing in disbelief. "What?"
He wipes his face with his hand frantically. "If that's what it takes," he shrugs, nodding. "I'll get the help. Just, just don't leave me, bug."
"Nice to see you again." You snap out of your daze as the therapist greets you.
"Likewise," you murmur, glancing over at Simon sitting beside you.
His leg is tapping a mile a minute.
He's nervous.
You're surprised he actually managed to get in the car and come here.
"Hello, Simon," she sticks her hand out for Simon to take. "I'm Doctor Shaw," she greets with a warm and inviting smile.
Simon takes her hand, giving her a firm shake, and nods in acknowledgment.
"Please," Dr. Shaw brings her hands up. "Follow me."
You and Simon both stand, a sense of anticipation in the air, as you follow Dr. Shaw to her office.
The office looks the same as it has since the last two times you came by yourself.
Warm and inviting.
Only some outside light spilled into the room, opting instead for a warm orange hue from a small lamp illuminating the space.
It exudes a sense of calm, wrapping you in its soothing embrace.
"Please," Dr. Shaw gestured to the couch as she sat in her chair. "Sit."
You and Simon both take a seat and you grab a pillow to hold. Simon leans timidly, his shoulders hunched and his hands fidgeting.
"So," Dr. Shaw begins, eyes moving to Simon. "Simon." His eyes flick to hers. "Talk to me about some of your hobbies."
Simon sits back on the couch, shifting uncomfortably. "Like to run, I guess," he mutters.
She nods with a smile. "Good, good. Exercise is good. It can help clear the mind," she scribbles some notes on a notepad. "Now, I would like to know more about you two and your marriage," she hums.
Simon takes a deep gulp, and now you're shifting into the cushions.
"How are we doing in that regard?" Doctor Shaw purses her lips as she fixes her pen to start taking notes.
You shift in your seat, glancing at Simon next to you. "It's been...hard," you breathe out nervously.
"Interesting," she scribbles in her notebook. "Can you tell me when you think it became difficult?"
You gulp. "Um...a couple, a couple months ago."
"Can you think of any factors that may have caused difficulties?" She tips her head back, offering you a comforting smile.
You tap your foot against the soft blue carpet, finger tapping anxiously against your thigh.
"Simon's friend, um, passed away in January." You choke on your words halfway through before completely finishing the sentence.
Her eyes flick to Simon. "I'm so sorry. That must have been very difficult for you, Simon."
Her voice grinds Simon's gears.
Simon is pessimistic, a cynic.
Has an excruciating time finding sincerity in anything anyone says.
This is no exception.
"Simon," she begins. "If you're willing, I would like to know more about your friend."
"Thought we were here to talk about my wife and I?" Simon's tone is dry without hesitation.
She nods lightly. "We are. It could be helpful for your wife to hear you talk about some of your feelings," she sits up in her chair.
"Did my wife tell you that?" He sits back in the chair, shoulders taut.
She quips a brow. "Tell me what, Simon?"
"That I don't share? Is that why I'm here?" He glances at you, already sinking further into the cushioning of the couch.
You don't say anything, opting to stay silent.
This was a setup.
A ploy to psychoanalyze Simon's psyche.
"You brought me so she could pick my brain," he voices plainly, pointing his finger lazily towards Dr. Shaw.
"No. I wanted you to come so we could fix our marriage," your voice is full of irritation.
"Because it's all my fault it's bad. Right?" His voice raises louder than he intended.
His eyes soften as you widen in surprise, your waterline brimming with tears.
"Shit," he exhales. "I'm, I'm sorry," he says to you with care, closing his eyes slightly as he wipes his face.
"I understand this is difficult for you," Dr. Shaw begins, voice solace. "And I want to acknowledge your discomfort. It takes courage to confront painful emotions," she shifts in her chair, leaning forward.
Simon's eyes narrow. "Spare me the shrink bullshit, doc," his voice is critical.
"It's important to express your feelings, Simon," The doctor urges, to Simon's dismay.
"Why?" He retorts coldly. "Because you won't get paid if I don't?"
Dr. Shaw sits up straighter as Simon lets out an irritated sigh.
"Look," he turns to you. "I know you think this is helpful, but it's not," he says with as much delicacy as he can muster.
"You aren't even trying," you murmur.
"Sweetheart, this is just...not for me. Never has been," he holds your hand softly. "If this helps you, keep coming. I'll pay whatever she charges, okay?" He moves to stand, pressing a soft kiss on the top of your head. "I just...I can't."
Your head flicks up to meet his as his voice cracks slightly, eyes glossed over, revealing his vulnerability.
"See you at home," he bid you goodbye, not sparing the doctor another look before stepping out of the room.
"There is no right way to grieve, and I can understand your frustration," Dr. Shaw says to you, offering a small smile. "Just be there for him when he needs you. He'll come back around," she affirms, turning to grab your receipt for the session.
"Thanks," you say meekly, hand reaching for the receipt.
"This isn't your fault," she confidently says before you step out the door.
You give only a small smile in response.
It was strange.
You and Simon had fiery love.
Two timid souls burning with such passion, desire.
A flame to a flame.
It was a love that felt like sparks igniting each other, creating a blistering and rapid heat that was impossible to ignore.
But in the end, the flames of love can burn each other out, consuming everything in their path, including the ones who ignited them.
Despite your prayers, you couldn't shake the feeling that this was your inevitable reality.
The rest of the summer and the beginning of fall blur through to September.
You were seething with anger.
The kind of anger that has you near in tears.
Simon had missed your sister's funeral, the one event that you had hoped would bring you both closer in your shared grief.
You had told him multiple times throughout the last week where and when to meet you.
He assured you he would be there for you.
He was a fucking liar.
You practically spring out of your car, parked next to his idle truck, taking heavy steps up to the house door.
The door pulls open, slamming against the house's side, making Simon awake on the couch.
The sight makes your eye twitch.
He lay dormant, several beer bottles strung across the coffee table.
And to think things were going pretty well between you two, but this was beyond belief, unforgivable.
While you were crying over your sister's casket, he was here.
Sleeping his drunkenness away.
"Don't tell me you're drunk," you ballistically say, tossing your purse onto the kitchen table with force.
"I'm not tellin' you a thing," he monotonously says like this is some joke.
"I needed you, and you were proper drunk?" Your voice rises. "I—I needed you, Simon," your voice shakes. "You gave up on me."
He says nothing, just lies there.
Your jaw ticks.
You rush over to him, forcing him to stand. "It's been—get up! It's been months, Simon!" You shout out, your voice filled with desperation. "Johnny is dead—gone," you snap out, eyes locking onto his. "He's been gone, and so have you. Except Johnny has an excuse. You don't," your chest is heaving.
Simon's eyes widen, noticeably aggravated. "I—"
"People die every day—and don't get me wrong, I am so fucking sorry, so fucking sorry, that it was Johnny—" You begin, sincerity in your voice as tears prickle down your cheeks.
"Don't—" He starts in a warning tone.
"Truly, I am. And I get it; you didn't need things from each other. But I need you. And I need to know you won't just abandon me when times get tough for you," your hands move through your hair, attempting to soothe yourself before more words flow out. "You need to grow the fuck up and talk to me like a grown-ass man and not a fucking pubescent boy!"
"Fuck, fine! Simon snaps. "It fuckin' killed me when Johnny died. I—he was my best friend, my brother. My only family. Gone." Tears spill down his cheeks as his arms flail around.
You stand silently before your tongue comes out, wiping away the salty tears coating your lips.
"Simon, I know you don't believe this, but we are family—me and you," you breathe out, trying to control your breathing.
"It broke me," he whispers solemnly. "Split me in half."
"I get that," you begin nodding your head, emotion clogging your throat. "But I need you to be whole."
"I, I can't," he stares at the floor, his hand closing into a tight fist.
"Simon. You, you can't let it fester. It's consuming your life. Our marriage." Your desperate eyes drift to him, filled with fear. "Let me help you," you beg. "I can help put you back together again."
"No. You don't understand," he lifts his head back to look at you, his eyes pleading for comprehension. "I think I'm broken beyond repair."
That was before.
It was December now.
You find yourself in the chilling hospital room, tears streaming down your face as you ponder the disintegration of your marriage with Simon.
You suffered a massive heart attack some days ago.
A complication from the heart disease.
It had weakened your heart muscle and lead to some brain damage.
The doctor said treatment options were no longer available.
So, instead of that, he switched his focus to comfort care.
Essentially, he's making it easier for you to die.
It's strange.
You know you're dying.
And you thought that death brings people together.
But you and Simon might as well be light-years apart.
You glance at Simon sitting in the chair across from you, anxiously tapping his foot.
He's nervous.
But not about you dying.
About something else entirely.
You can tell.
You can always tell.
Your eyes flick to the hospital room door, opening wide before your doctor beckons Simon to come outside with him.
Their conversation is muffled, but you catch the tail-end of it.
"It would be best to take her home. Keep her comfortable."
Now you have the confirmation.
You're going to die.
Just not sure when it will come.
You just have to sit and wait while slowly withering into oblivion.
"Hospice care can be provided to support and comfort her during this time," the doctor adds, his voice a distant echo.
A hot tear slips down your cheek, pooling onto your hospital gown.
You see Simon nodding his head along, finger resting on his chin in thought.
You want to scream.
And cry.
And punch someone.
And pray.
And move back home.
But you can't.
You feel utterly and hopelessly helpless in your own body.
Life works in a mysterious, fucked up kind of way.
It's not fair.
It's not linear.
And it's certainly not always kind.
All that's left to do is do what Simon did when Johnny died, go through the motions, the daily routine that feels like a never-ending cycle, and eventually, your physical body will leave you.
Your mind will wander far beyond anyone's grasp, yearning for a connection bond that cannot be.
MONTH ONE: January
You took up journaling.
Your hospice nurse suggested you take up the hobby.
So you did.
It wasn't as therapeutic as you thought.
It was just recounting what you ate that morning and what you planned to do the next day, the mundane details of life that seemed to stretch endlessly.
Boring, menial thoughts.
You didn't have much to say.
The only thing you thought of these days was what would happen in death.
Simon was kinder now.
Said he wanted to leave with you.
You feel guilty for having to leave him alone.
Even though you have no choice in the matter.
You hope you don't see him in the afterlife.
His life belongs here.
On the surface.
You've had some trouble walking.
Even fell in the hallway while trying to reach for a side rail Simon had installed.
You cried and pleaded for him not to help you up.
He managed to gather your heaving body in his arms and held you tight as you sobbed into his shirt about how you didn't want to die.
He didn't sleep that night.
Mind was too riddled with guilt; instead, he prayed.
With a cross to his heart, he hit his knees and closed his eyes, murmuring into the darkness to any entity who would listen.
You thought it was nice when you turned to your side to hear his hushed whispers.
He was praying for you to get better, you thought.
You didn't even realize he was praying for forgiveness for his own sins.
MONTH TWO: February
Your journal hobby has quickly dissipated as quickly as it began.
It's become harder to move.
You have to rely on Simon to do measly tasks.
It's humiliating, to say the least.
"You okay, bug?" Simon asks as the warm, sudsy sponge moves across your back, shining you clean.
"Yeah," your voice is hushed as your lips flatline. "I can do it," you assure, reaching for the sponge.
"You sure?" His eyebrow lifts. "I'm happy to—"
"Just give me the fucking sponge," you grit, ripping the sponge away from him to scrub your arm.
You find you're weaker than you thought.
You can barely hold up the light sponge to clean yourself.
Your hand sinks down into the warm bath water before you attempt to pull it up higher, over and over, until you toss the sponge over the lip of the tub.
It hits the tile, releasing water and bubbles on the floor.
Your head drops into your hands, tears mixing with the bath water.
"It's, it's really happening," you heave into your hands. "I can't even lift a fucking sponge, Simon," you say, disgust coating your words.
Simon leans forward, hand grazing your back. "I'm so sorry, bug," his voice trembles.
You turn to look at him, with red, puffy eyes and slick tears slipping down and into his beard.
"Don't apologize," you affirm with a sniffle. "You didn't do this to me."
He almost throws up but chokes down the bile to speak.
"Can I, can I finish?" He almost pleads.
You give him a soft nod and a gentle smile.
He grabs a fresh sponge and repeats the same process, this time being more gentle.
Like he's purposely trying to remember the feeling of your body under his hands.
It makes you feel loved again.
MONTH THREE: March
You were slowly withering away right before your own eyes.
You didn't even recognize yourself in the mirror.
Your skin has gone pale and blotchy and started mottling.
It's cold to the touch, void of any warmth.
"I'll be right back, okay?" Simon cooly says, pressing a kiss on your head.
"Where are you going?" You ask curiously.
"I told you I had to pick up Price's kid from school," he says warmly. "You don't remember?"
"Yeah. I, I remember," you nod your head, plastering a reassuring smile.
You really didn't remember.
Memory is a slippery thing these days, evading your grasp like a wisp of smoke.
The moment something touches your brain, it usually escapes within an hour.
It's a constant source of frustration, a relentless storm that rages within you.
Makes you want to throw a chair across the room.
He leaves, not even realizing the question has you spiraling.
Proding and pinching at your skull's skin to regain control of your brain.
You must look insane.
But to you, this is the only thing that makes you feel sane and in control of your body.
The feeling of inability is one of the most haunting prospects.
The hunger for control gnaws at you, a ruthless creature that refuses to be sated.
But it's slipping through your very fingers like sand.
Fast and all at once.
MONTH FOUR: April
By mid-April, your body feels hollow.
You can't do much of anything.
Though you did find some peace with your morality.
Finally, you came to terms with your reality.
And then, a spark of courage ignited, urging you to step out of the house for the first time in a while.
There was an unusual, almost compelling, need to visit Johnny's grave.
You had only done so once, but it would be nice to leave some flowers.
Your hospice nurse drives you and waits in the car as you find his grave slightly disheveled like someone had messed with it.
Maybe even crawled out of it.
You're too tired to investigate.
You sit in the soft dirt, legs crossed as the sun beats on your head.
The lull of sleep licks your brain and makes your eyes close and unclose lightly.
You yawn, stretching your arms out before the feeling of sleep becomes too strong.
You find yourself lying next to Johnny, separated only by a few feet of dirt.
You feel calm, peaceful even.
Though when your eyes shut for the last time, you don't see the bright, ethereal light you imagined.
You see nothing but darkness.
And smell brimstone.
It couldn't be.
This wasn't the heaven you were promised, a place of eternal peace and joy.
It was a cruel joke, a betrayal of the highest order.
You were supposed to be in a place of eternal love.
An incomparable beauty.
This looked more like—
"Bastard sold you out, m'afraid," a voice croaked in the darkness.
The figure was indistinct, a mere shadow in the darkness, but its presence was suffocating, a palpable sense of doom that felt all too familiar, like a nightmare you couldn't wake up from.
"Who—who are you?" You speak into the darkness, not paying much heed to what he said.
"I shall not speak my name, my dear," the voice remarks. "You shall find out soon enough," he assures, pure humor coating his tongue.
Your voice trembled with fear, barely audible in the oppressive darkness. "How—how am I here?" You managed to stammer, your terror evident.
A heinous laugh comes from the dark and shoots into your eardrum. "Your husband called upon me some time ago," he says. "He wanted his friend back, so he offered me your soul in return for him back." His voice is simple and casual as if it were ordinary.
Your heart thumps in your chest, and your lungs deflate quicker than they inflate.
"N—no. Simon...he loves me," you try to contradict. "He—he wouldn't do that," you speak into the darkness, voice tight.
"Loves his friend more," he casually says.
Your eyes widen as tears begin to pour down in a consistent stream down your face; you try to move your arms but find your arms are magically constricted to your side.
"Don't worry. We'll have fun—you and I," his tone is insidious.
Simon had bartered your life for his own selfish volition and damned you to an eternity in hell.
That—that serpent.
What kind of diabolical monster would do something so heinous.
He promised you a lifetime of love.
A baby that you would share.
A tangible tell of your love.
He was a false prophet.
When did he find time to do this deal?
Oh. Oh.
He did act skittish that night.
That—that night that you asked about him praying.
You just assumed he was praying to God to help him cope by perhaps showing some signs of Johnny.
Help him deal with the trauma in any way he could.
He was instead striking up a deal.
And it wasn't with God.

Part SEVEN of Simon Riley and his single mother god bless <3
Part One - Part Two - Part Three - Part Four - Part Five - Part Six
A few more months went by -- broken up by a couple of deployments, but easily the best months of Simon's life. He started sleeping over, every once in a while, sleeping with you. Going to bed with you in his arms after a full day, a full life? It was almost too much. Too good.
He should have known it couldn't last.
Charlie turns five in January. The cold outside is bitter and biting, but there's no snow on the ground just yet, so when he asks to go play outside, it's not that difficult for him to convince you that it's a good idea.
"Please, Mum, it's my birthday," Charlie tells you, eyes wide and pleading. "Simon'll take me, you won't even have to go out there. Just want to go to the slides for a little bit, please."
Your eyes shifts to meet Simon's, and he gives you a small grin. You know he'd do anything for Charlie, Charlie knows it too. Even Emma, the little baby who's getting bigger every day it seems, probably knows it.
Half an hour and a short walk later, and Simon has Charlie at the park where all this began. He goes down the slides a few times like he wanted, then moves to the swings for a bit. It's freezing, but he's having a blast, and so is Simon.
These little moments are getting easier with time and practice. It feels like his heart is expanding, widening to bring in you and your children, the flesh pulled taut but still sturdy, capable of holding all of it.
Until it snaps.
It happens so fast. Charlie always has seemingly boundless energy, but it's been kicked up a notch this afternoon with the excitement of his birthday. He runs wild around the deserted park, laughing and playing, hardly stopping to think as he climbs one of the narrow sets of steps that lead up towards the slides. He makes a detour this time, wanting to try the monkey bars. Simon keeps a watchful eye on him, but the boy isn't paying enough attention, and slips as he tries to navigate the high bars.
He falls to the ground, hard, and Simon hears the unmistakable snap of bone breaking. Charlie starts wailing, piercing and immediate, and Simon does a quick assessment, trained enough to keep his head even as his heart races.
There's no blood, no visible injuries besides his left arm, bent in a way it isn't supposed to go.
"You're all right, Charlie," he says quietly, carefully picking him up, making sure to keep his arm stable. "Going to get you taken care of, hear me?"
It's a quick walk back to your house, followed by a quick drive to the hospital with you and Emma in tow. Charlie's crying sets off the baby, and you're quietly weeping too, trying to tend to Charlie, and Simon navigates the streets with a clenched jaw, certain that he's destroyed everything.
Once everyone is inside the hospital, it's another quick blur of doctors and nurses poking and prodding Charlie, followed by an x-ray that confirms the clean break in his upper arm. The boy is sedated so the bone can be set, and then, while you wait for him to wake back up and while Emma finally calms, there's a stretch of silence.
Finally, you look up from the hospital bed to Simon, studying him with a frown, before saying, "You've been very quiet."
When Charlie hit the ground, Simon felt like he'd gotten the wind knocked out of him himself, and he hasn't been able to catch his breath since. It feels like the sadness, the constant weariness he'd felt for as long as he can remember, that emptiness that you'd filled so perfectly, was clawing its way back inside him. Like it never left, and you were just a pretty distraction but not something he could ever really have.
After a moment of strained silence, he mutters, "I ... fuck, I'm so sorry, love. So sorry. I shouldn't have let him on those fucking bars, I should have --"
"Stop," you tell him, your voice low too as Emma dozes in your arms. "Are you blaming yourself for this?"
"My fault," he admits. "I was the one watching him."
"Simon, don't ..."
He wants to apologize again, but he doesn't want to make you feel like you need to comfort him, but there's no way he can put on a neutral face right now ... he tries to take a deep breath, tries to finally catch it but it eludes him again.
"It's not your fault," you tell him firmly. "Accidents happen. He's a tough kid, he's going to be all right."
"He shouldn't have gotten hurt, not on my watch," he insists.
"Do you honestly think there's something you could have done differently? That you willingly let him do something unsafe?"
He racks his brain -- the logical part of him knows that it's not right. He's always careful with the children, and if he'd thought that Charlie could have gotten hurt like this, of course he would have stepped in. But the panic still rises persistently in his chest, flashing him images from a future in which you stop being understanding, where you understand how dangerous he is, how unworthy of everything you've given him. He's seconds away from being alone again, and it would be worse now that he knows what it's like to be loved.
"Simon."
Your voice is firm, solid and strong like it was that very first day when he heard you command Charlie to stop messing around on the playground. Charlie was too young and headstrong to listen then, but Simon wants, more than anything, to listen.
"It's not your fault," you tell him again. "Stop. It's not your fault."
You wrap your free arm around him, your grip firm, and he takes a shaky breath, then another. His eyes find Charlie, still out cold, and he shakes his head, but you give him another squeeze.
"It's not your fault."
That night, Charlie goes home with a sling, drowsy but no longer in pain. He asks Simon to carry him inside, and when he does, he asks him to stay, his good arm slung around his shoulder while Simon carefully cradles the one in the sling.
"Can it still be my birthday tomorrow?"
"It can be your birthday all month long," you tell him, putting Emma down on the floor with some toys.
After you make sure both your children are good for the moment, you pull Simon to the hallway, close enough to keep an eye on the kids but far enough away to speak privately.
"Are you ok?"
"Not the one you need to be asking."'
You give him a pointed look, one he knows by now means that you want him to stop being strong or stoic or whatever else and just be honest.
"I'm ... nervous," he confesses. It feels like a weak word to describe what he's feeling, but it's in the right arena, at least.
"About what?" you ask.
"That I ... that you'll want me to leave."
Your eyes widen, and you shake your head immediately, pulling him down for a hug. Your hands stroke his back and his hair, struggling to pull him even closer, and you start whispering to him. More of what you said earlier -- it was an accident, it wasn't his fault, just an accident.
What cuts through though, like a lightning rod through whatever storm is going on inside him, is when you say, "I don't ever want you to leave."
He pulls back, troubled eyes meeting yours.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah, Simon. I love you. Don't leave."
It's the first time you've ever said it. You've danced around it before -- "Charlie loves you, the kids love you, we love having you around" -- but never as plain as this. He's done the same, told you in actions every day, in promises to take care of you, but actually saying the words ...
"I love you too," he says. "More than anything."
Charlie's birthday does, for the most part, last the whole month. Simon slowly starts to feel the air come back into his lungs, breathing a little easier every time Charlie acts like himself. When the boy slips, every once in a while, and calls him Daddy, or when Emma grips his hair in her chubby little fist. When you tell him that you love him, with words or kisses or promises ...
It's another lesson. Another piece of evidence that, despite everything he's ever believed about himself, he has value even when he's not perfect.

January 2006
Wonwoo got the last choice for film night. He’d put on some period drama to make up for the torture he put you through earlier (another horror movie), one that’ll make you cry very soon probably, and sets the re-filled popcorn bowl between your legs. You pass him a bottle that he opens with his teeth, because for some reason you always forget to bring an opener from the kitchen, and once you’re tucked up in the blanket, with his thigh pressed against the side of yours, it feels too wrong to move.
It’s routine. It’s good. It’s been this way since school. Every Tuesday is reserved for taking up each other's space. Tuesday– because who else makes plans on Tuesdays? Watching movie after movie in his apartment until it gets too late to go home, and you sleep here. Can’t get interrupted on a Tuesday. (The only time you press pause is when either of you are dating someone, the last was Siyeon several months ago. You liked her, but Wonwoo never really talked about why he ended it.) You have a half hearted fight over who takes the sofa, but you always win out in the end. Wonwoo brings you pillows and pyjamas that smell like his laundry powder. It’s fine. It’s nice.
The problem is that lately your feelings have been running away with themselves again. You’re not sure how it started anew, or if they ever even fully went away, but the affection you have for him swirls, neglected and nameless, in your stomach. All Wonwoo has to do is smile in your direction and you melt. Made worse tenfold every time he holds your hand. It’s not often. Just when a particularly horrible scene comes on, and your spine goes rigid and you hold your breath, he’ll reach over, wrap his fingers around yours and use his thumb to work the tension out of your knuckles. He’s so good like this. You’ll take all the horror movies he wants for these soft moments, even though they make everything worse. He’s your best friend, and you’ve tried this two too many times. You never properly talked about the last time, the second time, four years ago.
(It’s like these feelings come in cycles.)
The end began with a sickness bug that stretched several days, and ended with a clipped voicemail, Wonwoo’s quiet contemplation obvious through the tinny sound of the recording, saying he wants to just be friends, saying he didn’t want to ruin what you have. That he cares about you so deeply that your friendship needs preserving over everything else. Yes, it hurt. God– it hurts. But you’d rather have him in your life in these half measures, than not at all.
His hand is on his leg now. You could touch but you won’t. What’s happening on screen isn’t the right kind of scary for holding Wonwoo’s hand. Just Laurie telling Jo he loves her, and Jo telling him she doesn’t. Not in that way. You sink onto your side, hardly watching the screen through fuzzy eyes. Wonwoo chuckles softly as he looks over.
“Are you crying?”
“No–” you say, voice thick.
“Oh you are,” he says, leaning over to stroke your hair.
“Don’t touch me right now, Wonwoo,” you warn. “I’ll bite you.”
“Freak.” He laughs and pulls his hand back. “Shit–”
“What?”
It’s obvious what. Wonwoo has knocked over the mostly-full bottle that was tucked between you, and it’s soaking into the seat.
You jump up to grab some paper towels from the kitchen, and when you come back Wonwoo is stripping the covers from the cushions. “Fuck, it’s soaked. I’m so sorry.”
“What are you sorry for?” you ask, patting the excess liquid from the cushions. ‘It’s your sofa.”
“Yeah but it’s your bed.”
“Who says I was even gonna stay?” you joke.
“Ha ha,” he deadpans.
“Don’t worry about it, I’ll call a taxi.”
Wonwoo rolls his eyes. “It’s one AM, you’re not going home now.”
You laugh. “And where, pray tell, am I going to sleep?”
“My room,” he says, without any idea how the thought of that has been floating through your mind for weeks. You haven’t slept in there since– since– “Hansol’s on the night shift, I’ll take his.”
You chew on the fat of your cheek. “Okay, sure. That works.”
There’s a knock at the half open door an hour later. “I’m so sorry,” Wonwoo whispers. “I can’t sleep.”
“Does it smell again?”
“It’s like something died in there. And there’s crumbs in the bed.”
Okay. Okay. It’s fine.
Wonwoo slips into the bed next to you, pulls the sheets right up to his shoulders even though he must be boiling in those pyjamas. Maybe he’s feeling strange about this, too. You turn on your side to find him watching your face already, cautious eyes and words unsaid on his lips.
“Is this okay?” you ask. “Is this too weird?”
“Not weird,” he says. A pause. “A little weird. It’s been a while.” He reaches for your hand and you let him take it. Dummy.
“Do you think Jo and Laurie should’ve ended up together?” Wonwoo asks, after a minute.
“She didn’t love him.”
“Wouldn’t it have been a better story if she had?”
“Maybe, but it wouldn’t have been them then, right? Jo and Laurie in love would’ve been different people entirely.”
Here he is, fingers entwined with yours and much too close. Here you are, four years older and not at all wiser. You are Laurie, pathetic and yearning, and Wonwoo doesn’t seem to get that he’s Jo, and that sometimes his tenderness makes you ache.
“Goodnight, best friend,” he says.
Some things shouldn’t change even when they do.
“Goodnight, best friend,” you say.

Hansol opens the bedroom door at just past six AM. He clocks the bed, the lump under the sheets, the just visible hair, face hidden by Wonwoo’s shoulder. He locks eyes with Wonwoo, who has been laid wide awake for the better part of an hour, trying not to move lest he wakes you too, and mouths Who’s that?
Wonwoo mouths back your name, and Hansol’s jaw hangs open. He makes a crude gesture with his hands, and raises curious eyebrows. Wonwoo gives him the finger.
A little later, while you’re attempting to rush out the door for a seminar, Hansol is shovelling cereal in his mouth, and Wonwoo is sitting at the table with a coffee. Hansol asks around a mouthful of Frosties– “so, are you two fucking again?”
“What? No.”
Hansol swallows loudly, frowning confused. “What’s the wet patch on the couch?”
“Ew– it’s beer, you weirdo.” You’re staring at Hansol in disbelief. “Even if we were hooking up I don’t fuck on shared furniture.”
Wonwoo suppresses a choke on his coffee. You throw him a pointed look, lips twisting with the effort of trying not to laugh.
(You and he did, once, on the aforementioned sofa.)
“Why did you sleep in his–” Hansol gestures with an accusing spoon at Wonwoo. “–bed, then?”
“Because it smells like a skunk shat in your room, Hansol, maybe you should wash your arsehole once in a while.”
“I’m squeaky clean, buddy.”
“I doubt that, pal.”
Hansol laughs. He’s loving this. “You need to get laid so badly, shall I help find someone big and strong to pull that gigantic stick out your a–”
“Oh my God, please shut up,” Wonwoo interrupts. “It’s so weird you two are related, who talks with their cousins like this?”
“Second cousins,” you and Hansol correct in unison.
“Just to clarify– you’re not together again?”
You roll your eyes so hard all Wonwoo can see is white. “We weren’t ever together,” you say, exasperated. “We’ve been over this before.”
Wonwoo rubs his eyes under his glasses. “You’re going to be late,” he says to you.
You look at your watch. “Shit– bye best friend, call me tomorrow. Smell you later, Hansol.”
You’re already halfway out the door, and Hansol is calling after you, “Gonna find you a boyfriend! That’s a warning!”
When the door clicks closed, Hansol turns on Wonwoo. “You’re donezo, I guess?”
Wonwoo sips his coffee. “Never started-zo.”
That sounded less stupid in his head.
Grinning wide, Hansol says, “You won’t mind if I introduce her to Minghao, then?”
Wonwoo presses his forehead against the table and tries to consider how much Hansol’s parents would miss him if he were to flush their son down the toilet.

February 2006
Wonwoo hovers his cursor over the Submit button. He hesitates. Could remove one of the options, the long shot, and replace it with something more achievable. He’s not going to get it, and if he did he’s under no obligation to take it. It’s more for his ego than anything else, he tells himself. But Professor Lee had insisted he throw his hat in the ring, so he does, and tries not to panic over having made a horrible error of judgement once he clicks submit, because now it’s too late– it’s in the ether.
You turn over in your sleep, uncomfy in the ball you’d tucked yourself into before drifting off, and your leg unfurls over him, seeking warmth and closeness. Wonwoo sets his laptop on the nightstand, and shifts down carefully next to you. It’s nights like these that Wonwoo is convinced that his life isn’t really real. Because isn’t it some funny joke that you’re here next to him like this, and you’re both still worlds apart. Touches are considered and well-mannered, despite how they used to be. But here you are in your ridiculous Pompompurin pyjamas and he wonders if you ever think about the last time you wore these with him. Probably not. It wouldn’t be considered memorable to anyone else, he thinks. Just a late breakfast in bed, that turned into non-stop talking, that turned silly, peppered kisses into lazy, deepened ones, forgoing lunch in favour of laying together, just close, in ways not completely unlike you are now. In some parallel universe, in some other life, this could still be happening in the way it was meant to.
Wonwoo considers how well he really knows you now, if it’s less than before, if your favourite colour is still the same as it was when you were children together. There are some questions you don’t think to ask your best friend of twenty years, because it’s expected you’ll already know. Unfortunately, Wonwoo knows nothing of the things inside your head, and someday you’ll find out. Tomorrow he’s going to ask what your favourite colour is, and hopefully that someday won’t be anytime soon.

Wonwoo surprises you when he picks up the phone on a Friday evening.
“Oh– hello. I was preparing to leave you a message. Aren’t you playing WoW?”
“Runescape,” he says. “Just getting snacks. What’s up?”
“Mum called, said I’ve got a letter there about our class reunion next month, the eighteenth.”
“Ah yeah, Jihoon mentioned that it was coming up.”
“You wanna go? I could rent a car.”
“Oh so you’re volunteering me as the driver?” You can hear Wonwoo’s smile through the phone. “When are you planning on getting your licence?”
You pout, even though he can’t see you. “Come onnn, won’t it be fun? I promise I’ll be good company.”
Wonwoo laughs. “How good?”
“I’ll bring the snacks.”
“Uh huh–”
“And I’ll burn three new CDs.”
“Four.”
“And I’ll burn four new CDs.”
“Okay, getting closer.”
“And, uh– honestly that's all I had.” You wrack your brain and come up with nothing of substance. “I’ll uh– I’ll hype you up in front of that girl you had a crush on. Whatsername? The cheerleader. God, it’s on the tip of my tongue–”
“Who are you talking about?”
“The girl– that girl you liked once. The one with the hair–”
“I genuinely have no idea who you mean.” He does sound confused, actually.
“Damn,” you say. “That’s all my bargaining chips.”
“Damn,” he echoes, with a click of his tongue. “Guess you’ll have to take me to dinner if you can’t remember who my mystery girl is.”
“So you’ll drive us?”
“Rent the car.”
“Thanks dear, you’re a real friend,” you sing-song. “Love you, see y–”
“Wait,” he says. “Wanna come over and play Mario Kart?
“Right now?”
“Yeah, you can stay the weekend. If you want.”
There was a phrase Wonwoo’s dad always used to use for the pair of you. Birds of a feather flock together. You’re flocking so often you hardly have to think about it. Just comes naturally. Nothing else is going on, and a weekend playing games and eating out of Wonwoo’s fridge instead of your own is a decent offering. Maybe he’ll have rented that film he talked about last week. The Descent? You’ll tolerate it, if he’ll squeeze your hand through the awful parts.
“Sure, okay. I’ll pack a bag.”

March 2006
The last weeks of winter feel too long, but today there is a breath of warmth in the air and it feels good good good. March is always the best time of year for dreaming, you think. Feels especially good when you’re watching 28 Days Later, and Wonwoo holds your hand through the whole thing. It’s not even as scary as the others he’s had you sit through, but holding his hand feels nice. Every Tuesday since Little Women has ended in his bed. Feels like old times, without any of the touching and all of the one sided angst.
When it’s your turn, Wonwoo groans at the sight of the Sense and Sensibility box, but it’s gently done.
“You cannot complain when we’ve been watching horror every week lately,” you admonish, pointing at him with one of your fries. He bites at it and you throw the remaining half at his face. “You know I hate them.”
Wonwoo grins. “You should complain more, then.”
You hum your agreement. “Well it’s because I’m so selfless that I don’t, you see.”
“Sure, sure,” Wonwoo laughs. His laugh is so lovely. “That’s why you’re taking up my entire bed every Tuesday night.”
You scoff. “I sleep very mindfully, actually. I even curl into a little ball so your giraffe legs have enough space.”
“Is that so?” Wonwoo tugs at the material of your (his) pyjama bottoms. “Then explain why I’ve woken up with your legs draped over me every time?”
You blink. Can feel the heat on your ears. Thank God it’s dark. “Oh, sorry. I didn’t realise.”
A pause.
“I don’t mind,” he says. Quiet. Suddenly too serious. You can’t look at him. “You’ve always slept like that.”
“Movie’s starting,” you say. And that’s that.
Later, Wonwoo squeezes in beside you in his tiny bathroom to brush his teeth. He bumps his hip into your side, smiles at you in the mirror, and it feels so horribly domestic you might actually throw up. It doesn’t make sense what you’re doing.
When you finish brushing your teeth you look down the hallway to the sofa, think briefly about taking it, but Wonwoo steps out behind you, tugs on your sleeve and asks if you’re coming to bed. There’s toothpaste on the corner of his lip. This time four years ago you would’ve wiped it away. Now you just tap at the corner of your own, say got something there and let Wonwoo sort himself out.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
It’s a rare Tuesday that Hansol is home. He takes Wonwoo’s usual spot next to you, showing you pictures of some guy on his laptop while Wonwoo is fetching drinks and snacks from the kitchen, and when he comes back in the room he blinks, surprised that he’s been relegated to the armchair. He leans over the arm of the sofa to peer at the Myspace profile loaded on Hansol’s screen.
“What’s going on?” he asks.
“Hansol here is trying to get me a date.”
“Am not,” Hansol rebuts. “Though if I were, is he the sort of guy you’d be interested in?”
“Uh–”
Wonwoo’s sharp laugh sounds like a bark. “No, Soonyoung is not her type.”
You swat at him. “What would you know about my type? None of my exes have been remotely similar. He’s hot.”
“Sure, but he’s not for you,” Wonwoo insists. “He’s not serious about anything–”
Hansol sighs, dejected. “We’re never gonna get him laid–“
You stare at the screen. “And apparently he’s a virgin–”
“Don’t shame him,” Hansol says flatly.
“I’m not! It’s just surprising, that’s all!”
“Okay, fine, what about this guy–” He’s already closing off his profile and loading another. It’s all grunge and dark compared to the neon green garishness of the previous. He’s tall, long dark hair, painted nails. That’s all you get to see before Wonwoo is snapping the laptop closed.
“I’m putting on the movie now, guests choice first.”
“Who pissed in your cereal?” asks Hansol.
Wonwoo doesn’t answer. Just flops into the chair opposite, jaw tight, eyes burning holes into the title screen on the TV.
Pride and Prejudice begins, and no less than five minutes in, Hansol sags against the back of the sofa. “Borrrrring. Can we watch Shrek instead?”
Wonwoo glances at you, and you shrug. Hansol takes that as a yes, and disappears off to his room to dig out the DVD from underneath the mess.
“We can watch it another time,” Wonwoo offers. But you don’t care about that. You’re wondering if Wonwoo is keeping his secrets again. If Hansol knew much about your past, more than the hooking up, more to do with the depth of the feelings you once had for each other, would he be trying to set you up with his and Wonwoo’s friends, right in front of him?
Later, you lay in Wonwoo’s bed and ask why he isn’t dating anyone. He’s on the verge of sleep, can hear it with how low his voice is, how soft.
“Don’t wanna,” he hums, eyes closed. “M’happy as I am.”
Ah.
“Why aren’t you?”
“Aren’t I what?”
“Dating someone.”
“Well I’ve got terribly high standards, you see.”
Wonwoo laughs, grins lazy and sweet. “Not high enough. All your partners have been awful.”
“Not all of them,” you argue.
“Name one.” His big brown eyes open just enough for him to level you with them.
You could say anything. Anything. You could say what you really mean, and it could be okay. It could not, too.
“Remember Park Sungkyu? He was pretty great.”
Wonwoo tickles your middle, and you yelp, swatting at him and suppressing a giggle. “Boys from when we were six don’t count.”
“He gave me a crown for my birthdayyy!” you sing-song. “He called me his Princess.” Wonwoo tickles you again and you jolt.
“Okay, okay, you’re right! I have terrible taste! Now stop torturing me, you freak.”
“Whatever Her Majesty desires.”
You kick him in the shin in exaggerated outrage but all Wonwoo does is smile wide, grossly pleased with himself. He’s beautiful like this.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
It’s the weekend and you’re watching Pride and Prejudice from Wonwoo’s bed. Hansol has taken over the living room with a group of friends, and their yelling is so loud it feels like they’re right outside the door. It’s the final game for something or other, you didn’t really listen. It’s unseasonably warm, and though the window is thrust open the air hangs still and heavy in this room. You’re laid shoulder to shoulder, arm to arm, sheets pushed down to your feet. Occasionally, his thigh brushes yours and it’s nice. His hand twists, palm up, and his thumb strokes your wrist. You like how it feels deliberate.
It gets to the part where Elizabeth turns down Mr Darcy’s proposal and Wonwoo sniffs. You near snap your neck to look at him. “Are you crying?”
“No.”
“You are. Your eyes are all watery.”
He gestures at the screen. “This is fucked up. They could just talk to each other.”
You shrug, turning back to the screen. Elizabeth finishes up her speech, Mr Darcy looks at her lips, they lean in and hold back. The desperation in his voice, his breathy please, has your chest knotted tight and uncomfortable. “Without a little miscommunication there wouldn’t be any story at all,” you say.
“Love doesn’t need to be a story,” says Wonwoo, flat. “It could just be.”
“But then we wouldn’t have films, my dearest friend. And all this yearning makes me feel alive.”
Wonwoo knocks his foot against yours, and you nudge him back. More cheers from down the hall.
“I hate yearning. Makes me feel sick.”
You laugh then, rolling onto your side and looking over at him. Your heart is thumping so loud he can surely hear it. Don’t say it. Don’t push. “What have you ever yearned for?”
Fuck. What a stupid thing to say.
He doesn’t look at you. Rolls his bottom lip between his teeth and clams up. “Nothing. Nevermind.” And there it is. He’ll touch on his terms and won’t give the feeling a name. He pushes up from the bed. “Want ice cream?”
“No,” you grumble, slipping down flat on the bed and stretching out your arms, eyes fluttering shut to tuck up the feeling in them. “Wanna sleep. This weather makes me tired.”
“Let's sleep then,” he says. “We can finish the rest in the morning.” He shuts off his laptop and makes to take off his t-shirt, but stops, clearly thinking better of it.
You poke his arm. “I don’t mind if you want to sleep without it. It’s boiling.”
“You sure?” he asks.
“Yeah. Nothing I haven’t seen before anyway.”
His shoulders go all stiff for a second. Stupid.
“Aren’t you warm too?”
Yes. The sweat is starting to make your shirt stick to your skin. “No, I’m okay.”
Wonwoo shrugs off his clothes, tosses them to the chair (keeps his underwear on even though he usually wouldn’t, as some attempt at consideration for the blockades between you ever since– since before) and lays down. Your eyes meet in the half-dark for a moment, and there is something unwritten in his expression. The backs of your hands brush, and it’s still not the right kind of scary to make this touch okay. You can feel the warmth beaming out of him, and you almost tell him how lovely he looks with his skin all flushed and shiny like this. But then he turns his back on you, whispers goodnight, best friend to the wall, and you hold your breath for a moment, while you sink into the depths of your wanting.
You can’t be the one to bring up the possibility of you, together, again. It’s too humiliating. You should let this go.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Thanks to traffic the drive takes longer than expected. It doesn’t matter. Despite burning six CDs, and stealing four from Hansol’s collection, Wonwoo has you play From Under the Cork Tree twice in the first half of the drive. For the first two hours you talk non-stop, the next is taken up speculating on and placing bets on the lives of the classmates you haven’t already reconnected with on Facebook. You spend the fourth half-snoozing, while Wonwoo hums along to Snow Patrol. He’s gently singing the wrong lyrics to Set Fire to the Third Bar, when Jihoon calls your mobile.
“Hi Jihoon,” you murmur, and then holding up the phone to Wonwoo’s ear– “Say hi.”
“Hi Jihoon,” says Wonwoo obediently. “We’re still two hours away– shitty traffic.”
You take the phone back, and say, “Are we meeting you there tonight or do you guys wanna come pregame with us and Wonwoo’s parents?”
Jihoon laughs. “How much pregaming are we talking?”
“I need at least two drinks before I set foot in the same room as Choi Hwangyu.”
“Haven’t you let that whole mortal enemies thing go yet?”
“Never,” you assert, crossing your heart. Wonwoo laughs. “It’s a mutual hatred that will last for all eternity.”
“You know– ‘all eternity’ is a redundant phr–”
“Oh my Godddd.”
You settle on the plan for the evening quickly. You and Wonwoo will have dinner with his parents, change into something that smells less like rental car and chilli Doritos, and Jihoon and Iseul will meet you at the pub before heading to the venue near your old school.
You flip the phone to end the call, and Wonwoo reaches over to squeeze your knee.
“You gonna be okay? Seeing him?”
It started off as just a bunch of guys being dickheads, nothing too worthy of note. Hwangyu took it further. Snapping your bra strap in the middle of class, spilling drinks over your shirt in front of the entire lunch hall, spreading baseless rumours about boys you’d supposedly hooked up with. Once he started telling people you blew him in the chemistry lab during lunch break, Wonwoo and Jihoon stopped taking notice of your asking them to not intervene and “had words” after school. Wonwoo didn’t walk you home that day– had his friend from the year below, Mingyu, walk you instead. Jihoon told you not to ask so you never did, but just like that Hwangyu stopped giving you grief. Even back then you hated the fact that it took other guys to get him to leave you alone. Patriarchy rules even at the turn of the twenty-first century. How gross.
“Yeah, I’ll be fine. I looked him up a few days ago. Guess what?”
“He’s divorced?”
“Divorced thrice.”
Wonwoo laughs. “We’re twenty-six, how does someone find the time to get married to and divorced from three different people?”
“We could’ve been married already had we not spent eight years fucking around at university.” You’re laughing until you notice Wonwoo’s eyebrows pinch in the middle, a weird lopsided smile on his face, and you realise what you just said. You cough. “Not we. You know what I mean. My question was more how did he find three separate people who want to fuck him?”
“Urgh, I’d rather not have that visual, thanks.”
Snow Patrol wraps up, and you dig out the CD case from under your feet. “Okay, what next? Arctic Monkeys or My Chemical Romance?”
“Can we have Fall Out Boy again?”
“Oh my G–”
“I really liked that fifth one.”
You fiddle taking Snow Patrol out the player and popping Fall Out Boy back in, trying not to scratch their bottoms.
“Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner? Yeah, it’s my second favourite.”
“What’s your first?” asks Wonwoo.
“XO, the last one.” You tip your head back against the headrest, close your eyes, listen to Wonwoo sing, and wonder if it’s him or the music that makes your heart beat faster.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
It’s fun, really. Catching up with all these people you haven’t seen in eight years, and Jihoon and Iseul, who you last saw seven months ago, and Wonwoo, who you see all the time. After your first rounds, the four of you huddle at the table on the furthest edge of the room, Iseul tells you about how her job is having her relocate to your city, and could you show her around (you will—of course you will. The idea of your old friend being there in your home makes you giddy, and Wonwoo laughs when you clap your hands in excitement.), Jihoon tells you all about his latest projects, and you and Wonwoo catch them both up on your studies. Eventually the group breaks off, Wonwoo to the bathroom, Jihoon to the bar, and Iseul spots another friend across the room, and darts off with a promise to be right back.
You take the moment of quiet to check your texts. Mingyu and Seokmin have heard you’re in town, they want to hang out tomorrow. Your mother wants to know if you’re staying the night with her or your father (neither, you’re staying with Wonwoo’s parents, who were far more glad to see you than your own parents would be), and Wonwoo, who has messaged from the bathroom.
Wonwoo: You’re taking me for dinner after this btw.
You: Wash your hands before texting me, you pig!
There’s a clearing of a throat behind you, and you turn, half expecting Wonwoo there saying something smart in reply, but it’s not.
“Oh. Hello.”
Your voice is anything but friendly. It seems Hwangyu still has the same unwarranted self-assuredness that pissed you off back then, because once addressed, he settles himself into the chair just vacated by Iseul and leans into your space.
You lean back. “Can I help you?”
“Did you come with Jihoon?’
You blink stupidly. He must not recognise you.
“No.”
He smirks, lazy, out the side of his mouth.
“Good,” he says, slow. “Can’t stand that guy.” Your eyebrows raise in surprise. “You’ve grown into your looks, haven’t you? Nice dress.”
There goes that hopeful theory of him not recognising you, but what in the God awful fuck is happening? Is he trying to pick you up? No apology, not even a pleasantry to speak of, just headfirst into some backhanded compliment and a sleazy smile. These men should only exist as fictional villains, not out in the real world.
You’re trying to gather your words. The planned retorts in your head don’t work in a situation where this is the angle he’s taking. Shit.
“I looked you up,” he says, not looking at you. Eyes darting, nervous almost, across the room. You spot his usual friend group, they’re all looking over like hyenas. “A few weeks ago.”
“Why would you do that?”
“Wanted to see if you were single. I always liked you, you know.”
The sound of your laugh takes you by surprise. Comes out more like a bark. “You had a funny way of showing it.”
He doesn’t have the good grace to look contrite. Instead he drums his chewed up fingers on his knee, and says, “Got your attention, though.”
There is stale air around him, hair already peppered at the sides. He looks older than his years, and affected. The hate isn’t eternal, because you just feel something like pity for him. Not so much that you’d forgive the way he treated you, but enough to let it go. Enough to be able to sit here and think that at least you remained kind, and three separate women divorced him before he got within touching distance of thirty. What a sad little life.
“Are you still Jeon Wonwoo’s girl?”
You roll your eyes. About to say no, the truth, because not wanting him has absolutely nothing to do with Wonwoo, and he should know that– but a hand on your shoulder stills you. “Yeah, she is,” says Jihoon, from behind you. “Isn’t that right?”
“Yeah. I am,” you echo, because you’re not going to let Hwangyu call your friend a liar.
Much too slowly, Hwangyu makes his exit. Exchanges stiff pleasantries with Jihoon, and tries with Iseul who doesn’t return them (she’s a wonderful friend), and slips away to his old friends across the hall. You watch– they clap him on the shoulder, jeer at him, make faces like a twelve year old would. Some friends.
Jihoon and Iseul sit back down in their respective seats. Exchange a look, and you heave a frustrated sigh, just before Wonwoo returns from the bathroom. His eyes flick between you, catching the smell of the tension, and sinks slowly into his seat next to yours.
“What did I miss?”
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Mingyu and Seokmin are playing pool, badly. You can hear their yelling from all the way over here. Someone has started playing Boyz II Men on the jukebox. Jihoon is drunk, sings along to the words. His voice has always been pretty. Iseul joins in, and hers is less so, but it’s so fun to watch them together.
‘I know the colour of love
And it lives inside of you
I know the colour of truth
It's in the image of you’
They’re another set of friends who could have been, but didn’t. It’s a shame they could never figure it out. You and Wonwoo clink your bottles together, take a sip, and Wonwoo lets you lean against him. His arm rests on the bench behind your back, his hand on your shoulder. He’s a little drunk, as are you, and it’s nice to be home and in all your old haunts.
You rest the back of your head in the crook of his neck, and ask him what he thinks the colour of love is.
Wonwoo hums in thought, runs his thumb along the length of your shoulder blade. “I don’t know, I’ll need to think about it. What do you think it is?”
“It’s pink.”
“Why?”
Blush pink, soft, and subtle, and sweet. The colour of his cheeks when he’s shy. The colour of the soft sweater he wore one time, while you were walking along the river and he was happy and goofy and lovely, swinging your clasped hands high in the sky. The colour of the flowers he buys for your birthday, the same kind (your favourite) every year without fail. His corsage on prom night. The fuzzy feeling you get in your stomach when he laughs is pink. Painted clouds at sunset, lovehearts, strawberries, the Milky Way, cherry blossoms. Pink is the colour of hopeless romantics, and the colour of the Wonwoo shaped hole in your heart.
He taps you, gentle. “Get distracted?” he asks. You nod. “Drunk?”
“Getting there.”
“Why pink?”
It’s too much to say. “Valentines Day. Duh.”
Britney Spears comes on the jukebox. Iseul squeals loud and drags you up to dance. Wonwoo watches you, his smile beaming, and you can hardly look at him.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Later, when Wonwoo lays in bed (the air mattress on the floor of his childhood bedroom), he’s still mulling over your question. Your arm is hanging over the edge of his old bed, fingers close enough to touch. He doesn’t. You’d fallen fast asleep as soon as your head hit the pillow.
Wonwoo thinks about when you were children. Digging in the grass, plucking leaves from trees (Biggest one wins! Wins what? I dunno, a promise?), the first shoots of the tulips you and he planted in your grandfather's garden. He’s had so many shared firsts with you. There was no obligation, no forced time spent, just two kids who chose the comfort of one another over everyone else. It’s really something that you’ve still stuck like glue, all these years, as you’ve grown and reincarnated into several different people. Every time, you’ve chosen each other, even when it didn’t work.
The colour of love is green. It’s in all those moments he felt most free. Like anything could happen. Like everything is fresh and new and an adventure to be had. It’s in the wig you wore for Halloween one year, and you made him laugh so hard he cried. It’s in the way you ground him when his heart is racing, when you drag him outside to stand in the park, make him kick off his shoes and socks and stand on the grass to feel the earth beneath his body. He always feels silly until it works. It’s in the bauble you painted for his parents when you were eight, tucked away for safekeeping in the attic, brought out every December to hang on the tree. It’s the colour of the blanket his mother knitted you years ago, that you still keep, spread out on top of your bed. His colour is in the dress you wore the very first time, and in another one, more sensible and grown, that you wore last night. His colour is all his moments with you.

April 2006
“If I have to move to Busan you’ll come visit me, right?”
You purse your lips and hum loud for dramatic effect. Wonwoo throws a cushion at your face, and you laugh, swatting at him and missing by a mile.
You’re laying down with your bare feet in his lap, while Wonwoo balances his laptop precariously on the arm of the sofa to check on his applications. The news trickles slowly, only a few people have heard back, so far. You’re almost done with your program, and Wonwoo is just about to start. People have called him a late bloomer before, but he just takes a little while to come around. Needs it to be a sure thing before he gets his head out of the sand. He’s starting to realise that in the grand scheme of things, it hardly matters.
“Say yes.”
“I’ll have to get my drivers licence,” you say, thinking possibilities out loud. “But sure, I’ll get the train in the meantime.”
You push up and lean over him to peer at his screen, place your hand on his bicep for balance. Wonwoo tries not to think too much about it.
“Where else did you apply?” you ask, scanning the page.
Wonwoo lists off. “SNU, KNUH, PNU–”
“Cambridge?” Your voice is small, and he hates it. “I didn’t know you still wanted to go.”
Wonwoo shrugs. He does. Cambridge had been a fantasy for a while, all his adult life and then some, and the research fellow for the Keros Project couldn’t be a better opportunity. Six months in Greece, five in England. But also he doesn’t. Both because you’re his constant, and this is new ground. What if he leaves? Even if it’s just Busan– if he leaves this city, would you still be birds?
He won’t get in.
“I won’t get in.”
“But you applied?”
“Professor Lee insisted,” Wonwoo laughs, embarrassed and already sick of hearing himself talk about it. “He said he’d kill me if I didn’t try. Seriously though, they only take a few applicants. It’s not going to be me. It’ll be Busan for me, most likely.”
You’re quiet for a moment, hand still on him like you’ve forgotten all about it.
“Cambridge would be stupid if they didn’t take you,” you say, smiling tiny and false. “Not sure how often I could visit though.”
Wonwoo’s skin feels all hot. Would crawl out of it, if he could.

Hansol’s friend, Minghao (the one from Myspace) is in the arts. It suits him. He talks at length about his various projects– painting, interpretive dance, a four man performance he’s directed that will soon be playing at some hole in the wall venue (that he asks if you’d like to see. You would.) and it’s nice to be around someone that shows their interest in you so clearly. He asks about your studies and seems genuinely interested when you talk about the impact candlelight vigils have on policy making. How the government consistently underestimates its people. It’s a rare occurrence that a date takes interest in your work. Wonwoo talks with you about it all the time, of co– but that’s not– he’s not–
It’s just different when it’s a date.
He’s perfectly polite. Buys your coffee and holds the door. Walks on the road side of the footpath, even. Minghao would be easy for you to like. He’s funny, and thoughtful, and takes notice. He’s bold. He’s a welcome distraction.
But Wonwoo is still there.
He’s pressed into every crevice of your mind. He’s your past and present and only God knows if he’s in your future. Later, you call, but of course you get the answerphone– he did say yesterday that he’d be in the library all weekend.
“Hey, Wonwoo, it’s me. Listen– will you come over when you hear this? Doesn’t matter what time. Use your key. Okay. Okay. Bye.”
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
It’s late when Wonwoo lets himself in. Heard your message just after two and walked straight out the door, rode his bike all the way here.
The apartment looks like it always does. He’s hardly spent much time here in recent years, save for the occasional lingering in the living room before heading out somewhere neutral. Doesn’t feel right being in your space anymore, not after how it all ended last time, with water brash in his mouth. He still thinks about that. It’s why movie night is only ever at his place. So when you called and asked him to be here, to use his key, he knew something was awry.
Seoyoung, your new-ish roommate, is in the living room, sitting on the ledge and blowing smoke out the window. She moved in about four months ago and you’ve quickly become good friends. She looks up at Wonwoo and waves, mouths she’s asleep and Wonwoo acknowledges with whispered “ah– thanks.”
Wonwoo knocks on your half open door, but you don’t stir, in too deep a sleep. You don’t notice the door clunk closed louder than Wonwoo intends. The mattress dips under his weight and still you don’t move. It’s only when he squeezes your hand that you blink the sleep from your eyes, puffy cheeks and always lovely. You stretch out like a cat, willing the fatigue away with a sigh that turns to a yawn, and Wonwoo feels immense guilt for having kept you waiting. More still for waking you up, but you wouldn’t have asked him to come if you didn’t want to talk right away.
You pat the space next to you in silent invitation and Wonwoo hesitates.
“I’m in my outdoor clothes.”
“One of your t-shirts is in the bottom drawer,” you murmur, rubbing your eyes and pushing yourself up to rest your back against the headboard.
Wonwoo changes in the bathroom. Washes his face and thinks about the last time he used your sink. The feelings haven’t changed, just bottled. Matured. He has a similar unease in every fibre of his body. Feels like static energy on his fingertips and he needs to rub it away.
The silence stretches when he sinks down into the empty space of the bed. You draw patterns onto the sheets with a fingertip and stare down at the dimples you make. He wants to still your hand, to turn it over in his and ask why you called him over. Doesn’t, because you’re working up to it, can tell you’ve got tightness in your chest just by the sound of your breathing. You lean into him, sagging against his side and head tipped to rest on his shoulder. He has to stop himself pressing his lips to your crown.
“I’m sorry I kept this,” you murmur, tugging at the hem of his t-shirt. “Wear it to sleep, sometimes.”
He remembers it wasn’t in the bag of things you’d handed him, a couple of weeks after he left you that message on your answerphone. He figured it’d just been mislaid, didn’t occur to him that you’d tucked it away for yourself.
“I don’t mind.” Always looked better on you anyway.
You loop your arm around his.
“I went on a date today.”
Oh.
“Minghao?”
“Yeah.”
Wonwoo nods. He could see that working. You’ve always wanted something romantic. Someone who could have nineteenth century novels written about them. Minghao seems like that type.
“He’s asked me out again.”
“Okay.”
Wonwoo doesn’t know what to say, feels like he knows where this is headed because you’ve both dated people since last time. It’s never had to be a conversation though. Movie nights become strictly group activities, any day of the week is fine. It’s okay. It’s out of respect, or whatever.
“Should I go?”
“It’s your room,” Wonwoo deadpans.
“On the date, idiot.”
He swallows. “I don’t know. Do you like him?”
You shrug. “I could.”
“Then why are you asking me?”
“Wonwoo–”
“We don’t talk about stuff like this.”
“We need to,” you insist. “What are we doing?”
There it is. The question he’s been dreading. The question he hoped you wouldn’t ask because he doesn’t know how to explain it. Doesn’t know how to take the feelings in his chest and wrap them neatly into words. All he wanted to do was just let it happen, if it were to happen at all, on your terms. Except now you’re asking him to give it a name, and his throat goes dry. He’s doing it again. Despite how he’s tried letting you go, despite keeping a respectable distance, he’s still managing to slip his way back in like this. Lately, Wonwoo has been wondering if he’s a narcissist, since he doesn’t even realise he’s manipulating the situation until it’s too late, and you’re saying what he can’t. You’re so much braver than he is. It wasn’t until week five (six?) of holding your hand that he realised he was choosing horror movies deliberately so he’d have a reason to touch you. It got to the point when the background music would feature its first minor key of many, and your palm would turn outwards, just waiting for him to clasp it in his and hold you through the scene. He’s given you a Pavlovian response. Isn’t that completely fucked?
“Wonwoo,” you plead. His heart jolts. “I won’t wait for you forever.”
He tips his head back against the headboard, eyes closed because he can’t bear to look at you while he admits it.
“Isn’t it obvious?” he asks. “What I’ve been doing?”
“Nothing you do makes sense to me.”
The silence feels all thick and pliable.
Quietly, he confesses. “I don’t want you to date him. Anyone, really.”
Feels as though he’s sinking into syrup. Hard to move, hard to breathe. Hears your jagged inhale and steels himself for the ripping of the plaster.
“What do you want, Wonwoo?”
Wonwoo is a poorly knitted scarf. All slipped stitches and fast forming holes. One tug on a loose thread and he comes apart.
“I want to be yours.”
He doesn’t expect your touch, let alone your kiss, gentle and loving on his shoulder. When he looks at you, your eyes are big and sad.
“I don’t want to be your secret,” you whisper, in a tiny voice, against his t-shirt.
This is his undoing. Wraps his fingers around your wrist and insists you’re not. You’ve never been that. It’s just– he wants to keep this private, not that he loves you, but how he shows it. Feels like it should be something sacred. You blink, startled, completely taken aback.
“You love me?”
“God. Yes,” he breathes. “Didn’t you know?”
“I thought you might– I didn’t know.” You’re crying. Silent tears spilling over, fingers plucking at a hangnail on your thumb and this is the worst. His heart aches. “You’re so quiet, how could I know anything for sure? How long?”
“I–” He fucked up. Oh, he fucked up so badly. He rags his hands over his face, pushes his hair back while he searches for the right way to say it. “Too long.”
“After Siyeon?”
Wonwoo sighs. His thing with Siyeon wasn’t anything real. It started as a one time thing that stretched into semi-regular hook ups. She was in love with someone else, and he was pretending he wasn’t. The whole getting over someone by getting under someone else thing doesn’t work on a heartache as sour as his, and fuck anyone who said it would, actually.
“Before?”
“Before.”
You suck in a breath. “Oh.”
“Since we were kids, really,” he says. “Since before we ever–”
“Oh. That’s surprising.”
Wonwoo laughs ruefully. “Is it? I feel like I was plain as day. The guys at school used to tease me for it.”
“I hate this,” you say after a moment, voice thick and sad. You rub at your face. Push away the still falling tears. “It should feel nice, shouldn’t it? You saying you love me and I just feel sad about all the wasted years. And now it feels like I forced it out of you, before you were ready. I love you too, you know. Have all this time.”
Wonwoo feels too big for his body. Like he’s full of hot air and could float right out of the window high high higher until he burns up in the atmosphere. Even still, there is that small voice in the back of Wonwoo’s mind, telling him he’s self-centered for getting what he needs, that he’s cruel for making you feel like this, selfish for wanting you just for himself. Stupid, for having wasted time. The alarm goes off– he doesn’t deserve it, your kindness, your patience, your love. When it comes to you he is, and always has been, a coward. But you’re still here grounding him, head resting against him, arms still linked, and you’re making no moves to push him out the door.
“How can I make it better?”
You sniff. “You can tell me again when I’ve stopped crying. You can stay.”
“Can I hold you?” Like you’re his, he doesn’t say.
You chew on your bottom lip. “Yeah. Yes. I’d like that a lot.”
Wonwoo shifts down, turns on his side and lifts the duvet for you to move into the space in front of him. You take his glasses, fold them carefully and place them on your nightstand. You slot in next to him, back to his front, his body curls around yours and you press into him. He buries his face in the crook of your neck, and he starts to let himself hope it could be okay.
“Have you stopped crying yet,” he asks softly, after a while. His hand is splayed across your cotton clad stomach, one finger toying with the hem. Yours is tracing figures of eight on his forearm.
“Yes.”
“I love you.”
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
For a long time, you’ve imagined it would feel like fanfare. A marching band size confession if there were to ever be one. But that’s not who he is, and it’s not what you really want. It’s better like this. Whispered sweet things. His breath warming your skin. His fingers on the soft skin of your stomach, lips on your neck.
It feels honest.
It feels real.
Wonwoo turns you on your back, leans over to kiss the skin beneath your eyes. One– two– Wonwoo has always had so much love in him. It’s just quiet. You place your palm over his cheek and he leans into it. Turns to press a kiss to the centre, to your fingertips, one by one. Everything feels soft and pink and fragile.
“Wonwoo?”
He makes a soft, curious noise. Lips still pressed to the tip of your ring finger.
“Kiss me?”
Every time holds meaning, but now it’s morphed, reincarnated into something new. Wonwoo loves you properly, and this time he’s said it out loud. The way he kisses makes everything go hazy and light and it feels like sunset. Slow and deliberate and feathered across your skin. You thread your fingers into his hair, pulling him deeper, kissing him open mouthed, and his body goes molten against you. The weight of him is exquisite.
Wonwoo loves like moonlight. Comes in cycles, and yes, this time it’s clearer than others, but it turns out he’s always just there even when he’s not, even when it goes dark and things turn ugly, he’s still there holding your hand. There is moonlight in his eyes, now, shining and shimmering. With tenderness, Wonwoo runs his thumb over the apple of your cheek, your bottom lip, the pulse point on your neck. You slip a hand beneath his t-shirt, touch the skin there and sigh over the way he presses against you. Your hand moves down and he stills you.
“This is embarrassing,” he murmurs. “I didn’t bring any–”
“I don’t need one if you don’t,” you whisper. “I’m on the pill now.”
“Okay,” he says, more to himself than to you. “Okay.”
“Don’t you want to?”
Wonwoo buries his face in your neck, you can feel his eyelashes tickling your skin. “I always want to.”
“Then touch me.”
He does. Works deft fingers over your middle, watches the way the goosebumps raise as he takes your warm body from your clothes. Soothes his big hands over your skin to warm you. You don’t tell him you’re already burning. He mouths over the swell of your breast, pebbles the nipple between his fingers, asks if it’s okay, like this. It’s okay. Anything he wants is okay. You tell him that– that he can do anything he wants to you, that you’re his to do as he pleases with, and he groans, a small disbelieving sound.
“Don’t say things like that.”
You don’t ask why. Wonwoo has always been possessive, but it’s not something he likes about himself. Hates to share but doesn’t like to take either, feels some kind of shame about it. Wears the word selfish like a chain around his neck. And so he doesn’t take at all, tries to stay content with nothing. You tried to tell him once, it’s not selfish to want things. It’s not self-centred to have your needs met. You deserve good things, too, Wonwoo. And he looked at you, both forlorn and skeptical, said something about how caged birds can forget how to fly. He never seemed to get that he’d only ever imprisoned himself. Tonight you’ll give him your body, push his shame away with your hands and your mouth, and let him have this.
You fist your hands in his hair, drag him up by it just to crush your lips against his to kiss him messy. He groans again, a little louder, and it’s this you’ve missed the most. The way he forgets himself when he’s touching you. The way he lets go. You wiggle underneath him, let his body shift so he’s caught between your legs and you can feel how he presses against your core. You nip at his lip, toy with the waistband of his underwear. “Off,” you say, and Wonwoo complies. The t-shirt follows straight after, and his body is back on you, looking at you like you hung the moon.
He brings a hand between your bodies, taps you almost where you want him, asks if he can touch you. Please. A finger dips inside, an open mouthed kiss, his length, hard, pressed into your thigh. Wonwoo likes things wet, and sloppy. You like whatever he likes. He gathers up the wetness inside you, smears it over your clit, brings his fingers to his mouth, closes his eyes as he tastes you on his tongue. God, what the fuck.
“Missed you,” you say, and he kisses you deep. Licks into your mouth, pushes two long fingers back inside your slick heat, and curls them over the sweetest spot. You pull off his lips to gasp.
“Can we keep doing this?” Wonwoo whispers against the corner of your mouth. “Will you kiss me anytime you want? Baby, say yes.”
You nod, head hazy, swimming in the moment. Baby. The ache in your chest, once dulled but never gone, is pounding.
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
Wonwoo holds you like you’re about to disappear, grips your waist tight with his free hand, fucks into you slow and messy with the other. You whimper as he plays with your clit, spread your legs wider so he can see, if he wants, but he’s watching your face, watching your mouth form a silent o. You’re so pretty, he tells you. So pretty always but prettiest like this, when it’s just the two of you. Watches your eyes go glassy, watches you come apart for him, feels your pussy clench around his fingers and commits the way your body shudders to memory. He doesn’t wait for it to pass before he kisses you again, takes your whines in his mouth and eats them. They taste saccharine sweet.
He slots between your legs, rests his cock against your core, pressing languid kisses to anywhere he can reach without moving from this spot. Nips at your collarbone, laves his tongue over the sensitive spot on your neck. Will leave a mark there, one day, when you’re his. A small part of him says that you’re his now, always have been, but it’s not really true, is it? Wonwoo needs the conversation, needs the lines drawn and the expectations laid out. Needs you to be sure that it’s him you want. Needs to know he’ll be able to give you what you need. He hasn’t, always, and that was part of the trouble. Wants it to be different, this time, because being with you is one of the few things that makes him feel whole in his own skin.
Right now he wants to feel you like this, chasing friction and needing more. He’ll give it to you, would give you anything in this moment, just wants you needy first. It starts with you wrapping your arms around his back, running your fingertips down his spine, lighting little fires in their wake. You press a gentle kiss to his forehead, the tip of his nose, his jaw, and tell him you need him inside. That you want him to fill you up. Fuck, if he could do this forever–
He wraps long fingers around your ankle, bends your knee to press your thigh to your chest, gives him better access like this, and it’s then he rolls against you, his cock dragging along your clit. He’s always loved the way you sound. Loves the way you get wet for him. Wonwoo loves you. So much.
“Love you, too, Wonwoo.”
He groans as he slots a hand between your bodies, fists his cock and slides into your slick, tight heat. It’s agonising, he thinks, the way you tighten around him. Wants to go to sleep this way, wrapped up in each other like this. He knows if he asks you’ll let him, but he wants you to want it too. Maybe another time. This time there’s going to be more. He knows it.
“Need you to move,” you sigh. “Move for me.”
He does. Fucks into you slow, shit, baby, you feel so good. He gets in deep, feels the tension burning in his guts, gasps into your kiss when your cunt goes impossibly tight and wet around his cock, loves when your nails dig into his skin, when your moan comes out muffled and broken.
He pulls out to look down at his cock slipping inside you, pushes in as deep as he can again and you arch your hips to meet him. He rolls the pad of his thumb over your clit. His body is alight, the perfect amount of heat and pressure and you.
“Fuck, you’re perfect.” His voice rasps. Your lips are pink and swollen. He wants them back on him. “So wet for me.”
The pressure of his hands on you– it wavers. Digs in hard in one moment and become the ghost of a touch the next. It’s like he loses himself and then remembers that you’re a flower, soft, and delicate. You won't break, because you’ve never been the least bit fragile, but that doesn’t mean he’s allowed to hurt. More so he doesn’t want to let himself claim you. Can’t let anyone know he knows you like he does.
“Leave marks on me, Wonwoo,” you say, reading his mind. You run your fingers over the top of his, where they rest upon your middle. “I like it.”
He did once, at the end of the first time. Sucked a deep, purple bruise beneath your neck for everyone to see. And he loved it, loved knowing he put it there in the dark, and loved how it deepened into your skin a day later, knowing that every time you looked in the mirror you’d be reminded. Loved it– until the brakes were slammed on, and he had to watch it deepen still. Watched your friends tease, asking ‘who’s loverboy?’ just for you to say oh my god, no one, shut up. The next day you’d covered your mottled skin with make-up, so like you he pretended nothing happened. And all too soon it faded, much faster than all the rest of it. He wouldn’t have done it at all, had he known he was no one.
But now you’re telling him to. Wanting clouds his judgement. It’s a dream, maybe, but dreams have never felt like this, you were always just out of reach. He’s all shallow thrusts and quickened breaths, and you take his hands to show him where you want his mouth.
“Here,” you say, pressing his palm over your breast. Here is good, he thinks, as he mottles the flesh with his lips. Private, just something for the two of you. He’ll ask for a picture in a few days, jerk himself off over it, probably. You thread a hand through his hair, pull on it (his cock twitches inside you, embarrassing) to angle his head up your body. You look so happy, smiling soft, and watching him through your eyelashes. God, why didn’t he get his shit together before?
“Here, too” you say, directing him to your collarbone. Wastes no time leaving a small mark. He likes it, looks a little like a love heart. There’s still a chill in the air this April, you could easily cover it if you need to, he wouldn’t mind this time. But then you say here, and this time you’re tipping up your jaw to give him access, pressing his fingers to the column of your lovely neck. He stills inside you, and you make a small noise of discontent, and angle your hips to draw him in deeper.
“Please, Wonwoo,” you beg, eyes big and shining. You touch his bottom lip, wet with spit. “Need it on me. Wanna be yours too.”
He uses teeth, this time. Sinks into your body and groans against your neck, you press kisses into his hair as he fucks you. Hard breaths, sloppy thrusts, the sound of wet skin and your broken noises. Wonwoo whimpers into your neck as you pulse around him, sucking the deepest bruise, fuck fuck fuck. “Gonna come,” you breathe. “Are you close?” He nods, laves a soothing tongue over the ache, makes it shine.
“Harder,” you plead, pulling at his hips to drag him against you. “Make me sore.” And it’s fucked up that he wants to. Has this morbid, fascinating thought of you feeling him for days afterward as you go about your life, a heavy, aching reminder that he did this to your body– but maybe it’s okay, if you want it too? He feels the pressure on his skin, in his bones, of your need for him. He thrusts deep and fast without warning, even the breath he takes is sharp, and the noise– fuck, the noise is obscene. You come with a gasp, eyes fluttering like you want to keep them open but can’t, too lost in the feeling. He whispers sweet praise in your ear as he comes too, and you kiss, lazy and open mouthed, at his cheek. His sticky release seeps out of you around his cock, and he fucks it back in, head clouding and body taught with overstimulation.
After a moment, when he’s caught his breath and your body goes molten, he shifts his weight and starts to pull out, but you drag your listless limbs over him to hold him there. “Stay,” you ask quietly, all gentle and loving and shy. “Just for a little while.”
Words are inefficient, here. Can’t tell you all the ways in which he loves you. Just places those feelings on his lips and presses them to your temple. Hopes you know what you mean to him and hopes he means the same to you. Wonwoo welcomes this arrow through his heart.
When it’s quiet, and the air in the room is all still and heavy, you murmur against his sweat-sheened skin, “It’s never like this with anyone else.”
No. Nothing could ever be like this.

May 2006
You’re home for the weekend, and today you're taking a day trip to Dadaepo beach, the south side of Busan. Wonwoo is driving and the windows are down and you’re listening to music and you’re in love. For real, this time. No second guessing, no wondering if he loves you back, because it’s out in the open and it’s tangible. He holds your hand all the time, and it’s so nice not to have adrenaline coursing through your veins before he knots his fingers with yours. He’s driving like this, hands clasped together in your lap.
Iseul and Seoyoung got close so fast, and they’re singing old songs together in the backseat. Mingyu’s too long body is squished between them, looking utterly perplexed at how he ended up in this car with these strange, loud women.
Later, you lay out the picnic you’d packed. The others are in the water, in the distance you can almost hear Iseul and Seoyoung shouting happily at Mingyu, and him yelling back. Wonwoo lays stretched out on the blanket like a cat, half dozing in the sun, face covered by the book he was reading earlier. He’s stroking your knee absentmindedly.
“Talked to my dad earlier– he asked after your applications,” you say.
“Should find out the rest soon,” he replies. He’s already been accepted at KNUH, but that’s his back up.
A couple of seabirds soar high overhead, can hear them calling to each other, flying so close their wings almost touch. They go like that together, far out above the ocean, and you watch them go until they’re just specks in the hazy blue.
“It’d be nice to live here,” you muse, looking at the way the sunlight dances on the water. “Wouldn’t it?”
“Yeah.” Wonwoo smiles soft, half-hidden under the book. “Yeah it would.”
· · ─────── ·𖥸· ─────── · ·
“Happy birthday,” Wonwoo whispers into your skin. He’s half-asleep still. Breath warming your neck and fingers slotted into the waistband of your pyjamas. Not to go further, just to touch.
You press a kiss to the tip of his nose, more alert, having been awake a little longer and waiting for him to stir. “Thank you,” you whisper back, smiling wide. “When do I get my flowers?”
“Patience is a virtue,” he mumbles.
“One I don’t have,” you say into his cheek.
“Liar.”
“Did you hide them in the bathroom?” You shift, ready to go get them yourself, but Wonwoo holds you tighter, dragging you back in.
“You’re not getting your own flowers.” Wonwoo pushes up from the bed. Hair messy and face all scrunched up. God, he’s lovely in the mornings. “Stay there.”
You suppress a giggle, touching his bare thigh just to touch.
“I like when you’re bossy.”
He kisses your forehead. You put his glasses on for him, wonky because he just looks so cute like that. He grumbles.
He pulls on his grey sweatpants from the night before, doesn’t bother with a shirt, to fumble his way out of his room in the barely-there morning light. He comes back in about five minutes later, singing the birthday song, voice soft and slow with sleep, tray in hands, two coffees, a bowl of fruit to share, a funfetti cupcake with one pastel green candle, blush pink tulips pretty in a vase.
He makes you blow out the candle, sets the tray on the nightstand on your side of his bed, and flops back in beside you. He curls into your side, arm over your middle and drawing you close, eyes already shutting. You smile, touching the petals and making birthday wishes that all of this carries on, even as you get old.
“They’re pretty, thank you, Wonwoo.”
“Pretty flowers for my pretty girl,” he says simply, like it doesn’t make your heart sing. “Your real present is later.”
“You already got me my present,” you protest.
“S’different now,” he says through a yawn.
You grin. Things are different. There still hasn’t been a conversation, nothing defined– you should do that, soon– but it feels like you belong to each other, more so than any other time before. The two of you are swimming into open sun-dappled waters, and it feels warm.

June 2006
Wonwoo sits on the edge of his bed, the envelope thick with papers lying forgotten on the floor. He drags his free hand over his mouth, reads the letter again in disbelief, because it can’t be real. It shouldn’t be.
“I shouldn’t have applied.” His voice is strained. Hurts to hear.
Of course he should have.
“You couldn’t have known.”
“I’m not going.” He meets your eyes, stricken, and you know he’d mean it if you even gave him an inch.
“Oh, Wonwoo,” you sigh. “You’ve got to. It was made for you.”
The letter is crumpling in Wonwoo’s fist. He’ll want to save it, probably. A memento of the start of his new chapter. He should save it. You take it from him, smooth out the creases, pull a heavy book from your shelf and press it over the paper. You won’t cry, not here in front of him, but your eyes feel too wet. He’d only feel some awful boundless guilt and it’d just make everything worse. You rub at them.
Wonwoo moves close. Tugs at your belt loop to bring you between his legs, presses his forehead into your sternum, and you cradle his head in your arms.
“It’s okay,” you insist, soothing a hand over his hair, reassuring yourself as well as him. “What was it your dad used to call us? Do you remember?”
He nods. You tug him by the chin to look up at you. “Tell me,” you say as you touch his neck, feel his pulse quicken, and his eyes flutter closed.
“Birds of a feather,” he breathes.
Wonwoo pushes up your top, presses open wet kisses up your middle, bunches the material under your arms and drags the cup of your bra down rough.
“That’s it,” you say, voice thick. “That’s it, Wonwoo. We’re birds.”
Takes your nipple in his mouth, makes it wet with his tongue, pulls off just to watch it pebble in the cold, slick with spit.
“You need to go,” you say. Your throat is dry. Deep in your mind, the cruelest part of you, says it was purposeful, him applying for something that’ll take him away from you, right on the precipice of it all. Before lines can be drawn, while the boundaries are still blurred. He’s not like that, really. It’s just your projection, you remind yourself. Doesn’t stop it from hurting because two short months isn’t enough, but you’ll never be the one to hold him back. Not when he’s been working so hard, not when he holds himself back more than anyone. You fist your hands at the nape of his neck. “I’ll kill you if you don’t.”
He pulls at your hips, fingers digging so tight they hurt. It’s good. It’s awful.
“I can’t do a distance like this,” you admit, carding your hands through his hair. “A year is too long. Might be more.” His clumsy, desperate hands fumble with the button of your jeans, pushing them down your legs so you can kick them off. You slide into his lap, wrap your legs around his waist. His mouth moves up your body, clawing and aching and needy, teeth nipping at your collarbone, sucking purple into your spit-sheened skin. Slips a hand between you and hums pleasantly at the wetness on your underwear. Circles his fingers over your cotton-covered clit. “How long have we got left?”
“Three weeks,” he says, between bites. His eyelashes are wet.
You nod. Okay. “It’ll be okay. We’ve got three weeks, and then we’ll be friends again. We can do this.”
Wonwoo pulls your underwear to the side, slips a finger over your wet, wanting cunt. “Friends don’t do this,” he rasps, sinking his finger in, curling just enough to make you keen. He’s so hard, you can feel the denim-clad bulge against your body. “Friends don’t touch each other like this.”
“We can,” you sigh. “If we want.” He wrenches at your clothes and kicks them to the floor, leaves you bare and he’s still wearing too much.
You push him back on the bed, drag his hands from your body to pin them at his sides. He looks at you, wounded and desperately turned on. You turn your back on him, spread your legs over his body to let him see you, wet and needy, pull on his belt and shove his jeans and underwear away just enough to free his hard cock.
“You know I want more than that,” he admits, breath warm against your clit. He hisses as you take him in your mouth, whines desperately as you pull back and swipe your tongue over the head. Let the spit bubble between your lips and work it over him, because this is how he likes you, sloppy and messy and wet. He licks into you, all tongue and teeth and soft lips against your core, pressed deep, getting his face wet with you, drags your body down tight against his mouth, arms wrapped around your hips and fingers digging into your flesh. You moan, pornographic, around his cock. Wonwoo arches his hips, fucks rough into your mouth, chasing the heat.
Wonwoo is greedy, sometimes. You love this part of him, when he lets it out. Wants your release fast, it seems. He moves between sharp bites at your thighs, marks pressed into the juncture of them, secret and lovely, heavy sucks over your clit, all while working you open with long, thick fingers. Makes you come unexpectedly fast, shuddering over him and pulling off his achingly hard cock with a broken moan. “You’re so wet, baby. Wanna be inside you.”
You nod, dumb and lovestruck and hazy. He grabs at your wrist and tugs, pulls you back over him and tight against his body, kisses you deep and lets you taste yourself on his tongue. You tug at his shirt, drag it awkwardly over his head and his glasses get pulled off with them, they clatter to the floor, but he’s pulling your breast to his mouth again and nothing matters but this, right now.
Right now, you sink over him slow slow slow, let him feel all your tight, wet heat before he gets needy, before he fucks up into you hard, like he wants to become part of you. Like he wants to crawl inside and make a home there. You watch his chest rise and fall, touch his skin as best you can between the lack of space between your bodies, lay your palm over his heart and feel it beat for you. He calls you beautiful, and you say it back. Says he likes the way your eyes roll back, that he loves how wet you get when he kisses your neck, when he calls you his pretty girl. Baby, fuck– you take me so well. He reaches behind your body, fingers splayed over where you join, feels the way your cunt hugs him. Groans as you grip his length with your pussy, hisses when you dig your nails into his chest as you come– everywhere, everything tight tight tight.
Wonwoo runs soothing hands down your back as you sag against him, tells you he loves you, asks delicate and concerned if you want to stop because you’re crying, and when you hold him closer, tell him no, you need this– he puts you on your back and fucks you hard enough to make you forget about it. Presses your body into the mattress and lays his entire weight on you. Wonwoo buries his face in the crook of your neck, whispers that you mean everything to him, and you nod, hold his body and let the fever set in. He comes with the deepest, most languid stroke, holds his cock tight inside and fills you up. Asks desperately if you can feel it. You can. Yeah, yeah I can feel you. Feels so good.
Much later, you lay facing each other in the quiet, tears already shed and conversation put on pause. It’s too hard to talk about being friends, just now. He kisses your eyelids, your cheeks, your lips, and you let him. Too sad to move, too in love. Friends don’t mean I love you the way you do.

Hello from Naxos,
I got here from Athens a few days ago. I stupidly left my laptop in one of the lecture halls (I think) and no one has handed it in to the office, so I didn’t see your emails until now. Sorry about that. I feel like I’ve been living in a daze since I left home. Can’t keep my head on straight.
I don’t know how to describe this place. It’s beautiful. It’s hot. My room doesn’t have air conditioning and the sweat makes the sheets stick to my skin even in the middle of the night. The air hangs still and it’s thick in my throat. I think you’d hate it. And even then I’m sure you’d want to be held to sleep while complaining about the heat. I’m in the internet cafe now, and it’s so nice and cool I might pay for an extra hour just to sit here and feel like a person again.
Tomorrow we’re visiting Keros for the first time, and I don’t know how to feel. Whenever I imagine stepping off the boat the roof of my mouth goes dry. Is that excitement? I don’t know. I do know that I’m not sure I fit in here with the others. They’re quite similar to you, in the coming from a well off family regard, but they’re completely unaware of how they sound. I don’t think they realise how they flaunt it. When I first got here they talked about taking ‘the boat’ down to Santorini and asked if I wanted to join them. I said I’d need to check how much the ferry costs, and they looked at me like I’d sprouted another head right in front of them. Turns out they took someone’s dads yacht for the weekend. I didn’t go. I think you’d know how to talk with them. You’d know how to relate to them in some way that wouldn’t come across awkward or fake. I mean that as a compliment.
You asked me what I’m thinking about and right now it’s that time you and I dug out those old coins in your grandparents garden. Do you think your Grandfather buried them there for us to find? I’ve often thought that that small thing brought me to where I am, to what I’m doing, and I wonder if it was real? I miss that garden a lot. I miss us in it.
Am I complaining too much? I am, aren’t I? I think it’s the heat.
How is your summer at home?
What have you been doing?
From: Wonwoo <[email protected]> To: You <[email protected]> Date: 2nd August 2006, 21:18
Mum and dad say you’re welcome to visit them before you go back to the city next month.
I miss you.

Hello to Naxos,
I’m sure you’ll be in Keros by now, so I hope it’s everything you hoped it would be. It looks lovely in the photographs on Google but I hope you’re taking some of your own for me anyway. I want some photos just for me, please, Wonwoo. I hope you’re looking at the sea and thinking that I’d like the colour of it.
I don’t know how much I’d enjoy the company of your colleagues though. They sound stuffy and out of touch. Is there anyone you actually like yet? Tell me about them.
I’m in the garden right now. I’m quite positive Grandpa buried the coins for us because there was mud all over his knees, don’t you remember? Granny scolded him for washing his dirty hands in the kitchen sink but she said the smile on your face made her forget about it. Just because it was engineered doesn’t mean it wasn’t real, you know? That your joy wasn’t real. Don’t you feel joy now, being exactly where you’ve wanted to be for the longest time?
It’s been almost two months since you left and you haven’t sent one single photo of a cat, and I know for a fact that Greece has many. Have you spent all your time off holed up inside? Go out for a drink. Make some friends. Stand on the grass with your feet bare. It’ll do you some good.
Summer at home is as it always is. I saw Mingyu and Seokmin at a bar a few days after you left, Mingyu said to say hi but I told him to do it himself and gave him your new email address, I knew you wouldn’t mind. Mother has been down, I think Dongho cheated on her again but she won’t say anything. I haven’t done much else besides sleeping and shopping and playing games. Don’t tell anyone I said so but it’s boring without you here.
I don’t think I’ll stay for the whole summer, actually. Iseul and Seoyoung are saying they want to visit the States. I’ll probably go with them. Iseul’s parents have a little place in California. I’ll take my laptop though, email me every time you think of me.
Tell your parents I’ll visit in the next few days, I’ve been craving your mum’s kimchi jjigae.
PS - I miss us in the garden too.
From: Wonwoo <[email protected]> To: You <[email protected]> Date: 7th August 2006, 19:36
Keros was definitely something. I worry I built it up in my head too much, you know? Thought I’d feel more moved than I did. One of the leads, Edward, from a village in Wales I can’t pronounce the name of, is walking us through the project for the next few weeks. If I could learn half as much as he knows for the time I’m here, I’m sure I’ll get by for the rest of my career. I stood in the ruins of what was a home built over 2300 years ago and wondered what the people who lived there must’ve felt about it. Were they happy? Did they think the island too small? Were they jealous their neighbour had a better view of the ocean? Did they start sleeping with their best friend (again) just before moving to a Mediterranean island hahaha?
Should we talk about us yet? I worry if we leave it any longer we’ll just start pretending it didn’t happen again.
I did take some pictures on the island. Shall I post them on Facebook? There’s this small cove you would’ve liked that had these tiny iridescent fish that swam up so close to my feet that I thought they’d bite them. There was one cat outside my window but it was dark and the one photo I got of it is so blurry it’s not worth showing. I’ll find more to take photos of.
Thanks for giving Mingyu my details, he’s already emailed me. He said you were looking well. I’m sorry about your mother.
I won’t go for that drink you suggest because all the would-be drinkers seem more interested in snorting lines off each other's chests, and I don’t have the spare cash for all that. I have met some people - Matteo and Emma. Matteo is from Naples and Emma is from London. Emma reads, and she said she’ll lend me her copy of The Little Prince when she’s done with it. I haven’t told her I’ve already read it.
California sounds like it’ll be fun for you. Knowing Iseul her parent’s “little place” has eight bedrooms, a tennis court, an olympic swimming pool, and a live-in chef haha. How long will you go for?
PS - on second thought I don’t know how you would’ve felt about the fish and the feet.
PPS - if I emailed you every time I thought of you then I’d hardly ever leave the cafe.

Should I have brought it up?
From: You <[email protected]> To: Wonwoo <[email protected]> Date: 9th August 2006, 06:28
Hello from LA,
Sorry for the slow reply, it’s been a bit of a whirlwind.
Wonwoo, I don’t know what there is to say about it all. Do you?
I’m trying very hard not to be pathetic but the fact is that despite whatever state our on and off hook up thing is in, I still want us to be in each other’s lives. I don’t think you’re going to be in love with me forever, are you? You’re my safe space and I like hearing your thoughts and I feel like being your friend makes me a better person. We have good sex, great sex, but we’ve never managed anything solid. I mean, I know that you left because of the fellowship and because I encouraged you to take it, but things between us always seem to end just as soon as it gets real.
Don’t worry, Wonwoo. We’re always going to be friends. You’re going to marry the girl next door type that doesn’t ask too many questions. She is sweet and knits you scarves for Christmas and prefers doggy style so you don’t see her face when she comes. She isn’t me– the selfish, obnoxious girl from three streets across, who beat you in the spelling bee when we were seven. You’re probably going to have three children, and definitely become very accomplished in whatever archeologists are accomplished in. And I am going to have at least four husbands, one child who’ll grow up rolling their eyes at me, and I’ll become infamous for whistleblowing the government for…. something gross and scandalous. Like listening in to everyone’s phone calls. We’ll holiday together and our children will grow up like cousins and when we get drunk and our spouses go to bed I’ll go “remember our last night before you left for Greece? Remember that night? You put your wet fingers in my mouth and told me ‘bite down when you come.’ I think about that all the time.” You’ll be so mortified your ears will go red. You’ll probably spill your drink.
I’m laughing my ass off just imagining it. Isn’t it funny that you’re only bold enough to say things like that when we’re in bed? It’s like you need to be cocooned up with someone in order to let your inside voice out. God, you’re so impolite when you fuck me.
But don’t worry. You were my best friend long before you ever touched me like that. Every time we do this you tell me you just want to be friends, right? So let’s be friends. I can do platonic if that makes it easier for you.
Anyway. The update is I visited your parents (they probably already told you) and your mum made the BEST japchae for me. They love me sooooo much, I’ve got no idea why. I’m sure you’re very jealous and that sustains me. Now I’m in LA for the rest of the month. Iseul’s place is only six bedrooms, actually! No tennis court or live-in chef but the pool is admittedly gigantic. Please see attached photo. I look great, right? I’m sure you’re nodding. Maybe while I’m here I’ll find husband numero uno. If I'm going to have four I should start working on that ASAP.
We’re okay, Wonwoo.
PS - don’t you dare upload those photos to Facebook, send them to me and me alone. Also send me one of you because you’ve been gone so long I’ve forgotten what you look like.
From: Wonwoo <[email protected]> To: You <[email protected]> Date: 10th August 2006, 20:39
Hello to California,
Is that really what you think? That I fall out of it so quickly? That we started sleeping together again, and you think I didn’t feel fucked up over leaving? I’m starting to wonder if it was worth leaving at all. I’m glad we’re friends but do friends kiss the way we do? Are friends allowed to do that with each other? Does it make me a bad friend if I looked at the photo you sent and thought how pretty you are and let my mind run away wondering how you’d look if you were in my room here. I almost thought about printing your photo off but is that perverted? You’re fully clothed but I feel like a pervert. You do look great. I love that colour on you.
I can’t imagine this life you’re dreaming up. I can’t imagine marrying some faceless person. Can’t imagine anything for me beyond what’s happening today. I can see you with four husbands though. I don’t mean that in any type of way, just that you find it easy to find people who love you even if they don’t exactly fit.
If you’re going to uncover some government spy operation let’s get started on the theories right now. If they’ve been listening to phone calls then it stands to reason they’re probably reading emails and texts too. Do you think they’re reading ours? Do we have our very own spy?
What is your first husband going to be like? The antithesis of me? Or maybe someone so strangely similar that all of our friends whisper about how weird it is? Don’t you think it’s messed up that we’re talking about this?
Please see attached a couple of photos of the island, one of me in my room, for your eyes only. Don’t go showing them to Iseul and Seoyoung. They’re not as good as the ones on my film camera but you’ll have to wait until I’m home for those.
PS - can you download Skype? Efraim, the guy who owns the cafe, is installing it on all the computers, he says we’ll be able to video call. I’m free on Sunday after 7PM, that’s 9AM for you. Are you free?
From: You <[email protected]> To: Wonwoo <[email protected]> Date: 11th August 2006, 12:05
It was worth leaving because this is what you’ve been working for your whole life. And it doesn’t matter that we started again because as long as we’re both single it can pick up whenever we want. I know you care for me in your quiet way. I know you’d never hurt me with intent. It’s fun, and we’re young, and we know it’s easy with each other. It doesn’t have to be more than that. Maybe we shouldn’t have said the L word, though, don’t you think? I try not to think about it. It would have been more sensible not to. Hindsight blah blah blah.
We can be whatever kind of friends you want. I don’t mind that you think about fucking me. You did, right? When you saw my photo? I’d quite like it if you did. I like thinking about your cheeks getting hot and having to adjust your jeans in the middle of the cafe. Did you feel the need to hide your screen?
You’re probably right about the spies reading our emails too, I’ll note that down somewhere offline. Have you considered that our spy may be Efraim? After all, he has easy access to the computers you use every evening. Maybe you should consider getting a laptop of your own. It must be costing you a small fortune going to the cafe to email little old me every day. Dad is getting a new one soon, shall I ask him to post you his old one? Don’t be weird about accepting it, it’s just a laptop.
My first husband is so so so handsome. Grossly rich because of generational wealth, he doesn’t have to deal with the stress of being self made. I need to start strong, you see. A little shorter than you, so you’re not entirely emasculated haha. He probably knows how to sail. I bet he drapes sweaters across his shoulders like those guys in Ralph Lauren ads. I bet he’s played Wonderwall on an acoustic guitar and doesn’t realise how cliche it is. He’s probably doing it right now. I hope he’s not conceited. That’d be unbearable. Though I suppose we’d need a good reason to divorce.
How are Matteo and Emma? What are they like? Did you tell them anything about me?
Seoyoung says hello. Iseul said she thinks you need a haircut (sorry, she peeked over my shoulder when I read your email) but I don’t. I think you look hot with long hair. Send me more photos of you? Take a shower first and think about me. Leave your clothes off. Shut your eyes and imagine I’m with you. I’ll open them in private.
We’re going to a party in Malibu on Saturday. Iseul’s cousins (Joshua and Kevin– they’re cool, you’d like them) are family friends with some big shot Hollywood producer so maybe I’ll meet some celebrities! Maybe I’ll meet my husband! If you send me a photo before then just know I won’t look at it, I need my head in the game. I’ll call on Sunday morning and tell you all about it.
PS - don’t open the attached photos in front of Efraim. It’s okay if you print them.
From: Wonwoo <[email protected]> To: You <[email protected]> Date: 12th August 2006, 22:47
God. You’re right about getting another laptop while I’m here (I’m not taking your dad’s one, I’ll save up for one by myself) because I had to wait until Efraim went to the bathroom before printing your photos. I nearly broke a sweat wondering if he’d come back too quickly and see me holding them like some kind of sick freak. You’re so beautiful, do you know that? Your husbands won’t know what to do with themselves.
Yes, I’ve been thinking about fucking you. Do you think about it too? I’m guessing by your photos that you do. Did you think of me eating you out when you touched yourself? You probably won’t read this email for another twelve hours but just know that I failed miserably not getting hard in the back of the cafe. I had to spend ten minutes catching up on the news back home just to stop remembering being inside you, how wet you get when I kiss your neck. What am I, a teenager?
You should’ve come here for your summer trip, rather than LA. Why are you going out tonight looking for someone else when you could have been here. I’m jealous. I miss you.
I’ll send you your demands before we call tomorrow. I want to see your face when you open it.
Matteo and Emma are great. They’re funny, and well read, and they know more mythology than I do, if you can believe it. Matteo is a good cook. He made lasagne for dinner the night I last emailed you and it was the best thing I’ve ever eaten. I wish you could try it. If he ever wanted to open a restaurant he absolutely could. If you wanted to take him as one of your husbands I wouldn’t be opposed. It’d give me more reason to have dinner at your house. Emma has the most infectious laugh I’ve ever heard.
They both know about you. We work together here a few nights a week, so they’ve seen me writing you. I told them we’re best friends, that you’re a little bit insane despite being one of the most level headed people I know. I never know what’s going to come out of your mouth. I told them that you’re smarter than I am, and that you’ll probably take down several governments one day. I told them that you miss me terribly. And that you understand me better than I understand myself, and that I can hardly understand you at all.
Emma asked if we were ever together, and I didn’t know how to answer. I almost said not really, but I don’t know if that’s true. Is it true? Matteo changed the subject before I could answer anyway. He wanted to know who bowser80 was. On that note I’m begging you to choose a more sensible email address, if only so Efraim doesn’t think I’m sending vaguely horny emails to a Super Mario character. He probably has the wrong impression of you.
I’m really looking forward to speaking to you properly. Your photos are- well they’re obscenely hot. But I want to see your smile.
Talk soon. Don’t fuck your husband-to-be on the first night, he doesn’t deserve you.
PS - I’m not sure if Efraim is our spy, actually. I just watched him pick his nose and wipe it under the desk. I would hope someone trained in espionage would have better decorum.
From: Wonwoo <[email protected]> To: You <[email protected]> Date: 13th August 2006, 18:56
Don’t open these until we’re on the call.
Can’t wait.
From: You <[email protected]> To: Wonwoo <[email protected]> Date: 14th August 2006, 09:08
I can’t stop thinking about you. I’ve been looking at your photos again since I woke up and I fear I’m never going to leave my bed.
Wonwoo, I’m being very serious when I say you need to get a laptop again as soon as possible because Efraim absolutely cannot read or hear the things I want to say to you. God, Wonwoo, I need to suck your dick inside out. I need you inside me.
How long have you got left in Europe? Is it forever?
From: Wonwoo <[email protected]> To: You <[email protected]> Date: 14th August 2006, 17:31
I can’t stop thinking about you either. I forgot the sound of your laugh for a while and now after hearing it I’m worried I’ll lose it again. Let's keep calling, so we stay real for each other. For the sake of my sanity please say less about sucking my dick. It’s only Monday and it’s a personal goal of mine to make it through the week without rocking a semi in this cafe.
On the topic of buying a laptop, I’m picking up a part time job. The stipend doesn’t stretch as far as I’d hoped. Efraim is hiring, and I asked if working here means I can read everyone's emails and he looked so confused I was almost convinced. Perhaps he’s a better spy than we thought. Of course working here means more opportunity for talking to you, which sweetens the deal somewhat.
It does feel like it’ll be forever, doesn’t it? I won’t be able to come home to visit until March. I wouldn’t be opposed to you visiting me here during your winter break. Would you like to?
Say yes.

From: Wonwoo <[email protected]> To: You <[email protected]> Date: 30th December 2006, 09:40
Hi baby,
My palms are sweating but I don’t know why I’m nervous. It’s just us, isn’t it? I haven’t been this nervous to see you since before school the day after we slept together. The first time, I mean. We were idiots, I know that much.
I’m borrowing Matteo’s car to come pick you up, I’m nearly ready. Please excuse the mess in it, he lives like a pig but he’s so endearing Emma and I forgive him anything. You’ll see what I mean when you meet him tonight. Emma can’t make it until New Years, she sends her apologies- I don’t know why I’m telling you this, I’ll say it to your face.
By the time you read this, it’ll be tomorrow morning and we’ll have already had one whole day together. You’ll ask to use my laptop to check your emails, and I’ll still be half asleep in the bed next to you.
Have I kissed you yet?
I’ve been working up the courage to kiss you as soon as you get through customs. I’ve been playing out how it’ll go. I’m going to set your bags down on the floor and take your face in my hands and kiss you right there in the middle of the arrivals lounge. Even as I’m typing all of this out, I know it won’t happen like that. I’m going to wave awkwardly when I see you coming through the doorway. I’m going to be hit with a rush of nostalgia when I catch the smell of your shampoo when we hug hello. I’m going to look at your lips and think about the taste of you, but then I’ll feel the eyes of other people on us, and they’ll be wondering if we’re together, and then I’ll start thinking too much and accidentally leave it too late, and you’ll be handing me your bags to carry. I’ll feel foolish and thoughtless for not taking them from you in the first place.
I’ll kiss you without an audience. I hope you don’t mind.
From: You <[email protected]> To: Wonwoo <[email protected]> Date: 31st December 2006, 06:15
Hi Wonwoo,
I like when you call me baby outside of the bedroom. Are you trying it on for size?
Don’t worry, you were a real gentleman at the airport yesterday. Took my bag and opened doors and everything. Five stars. It’s sweet knowing you were nervous. You didn’t look it at all. I thought how confident and self assured you seemed, like you knew all the answers to every question ever asked. I’m kind of in awe of you. The way we talk online has me forgetting what you’re like in person. How quiet you go, how the comfortable silences have me wondering what you’re thinking, how deliberate you are with your words. You say sometimes that I understand you better than anyone but I don’t think I do. You must think that your expressions give away your every emotion but they don’t, Wonwoo. You have this huge inner world I know nothing about and your emails give me a peek at what’s inside. You’re a mystery to me, the same way everyone is a mystery.
Even now, you’re fast asleep (I’m sorry I didn’t wake you to ask to use your laptop, but you don’t mind, do you? I wanted you to rest.) and I have no idea what you’re dreaming about. Is it me? I hope it is. I like how you sleep next to me, did I ever tell you that? You’re like a koala. I like how you reach for my hand when I think you’re already sleeping and draw lazy figures of eight across my palm, with your chest against my back. I like the way your hair is even longer now. Messy and soft. Wonwoo, you’re so so so handsome. You look like an artist. You look like someone Jane Austen would write about.
I liked that you kissed me in private. I liked that you kissed me at all. I liked that you held my hand when you introduced me to your friends, even though you were quiet as ever. Were you feeling shy?
I’m looking in the mirror now and I like the marks you left on my neck. They’re so dark! I’m going to need a vat of concealer to cover these up if we leave your room today. I’m going to steal your scarf. I should complain about the mess you made of me, but I like that you’re secretly possessive. Don’t tell anyone I told you that haha.
I like the way you touched me last night. The way you pressed my hips into the mattress and licked over my clit. The way you twined our hands together and rolled into me. If I close my eyes I can still feel it. Your teeth on my jaw. You, thick and hard, so deep inside me. Your skin felt good against mine. Were we always that good together? Is it better now because we haven’t seen each other for so long? I was so wet I’d be embarrassed if it were with anyone but you. Fuck, I want you again.
You don’t know that I’m wearing your t-shirt right now. Would you be bothered? Would you like it?
Wonwoo, would you mind if I woke you up? I want you to fuck me in your t-shirt. I want you to open your tired eyes and be glad I’m in something that smells like you. Reach under the hem and find me without underwear, already wet and wanting. I want you to fuck me harder than last night. I want you to fuck me so deep I can feel you in my throat. I want to feel the vibrations of your groan against my chest. I want it to hurt so much that I still feel you there when I leave.
I’m going to send this email and wake you up. Sorry it’s so early, baby.
From: Wonwoo <[email protected]> To: You <[email protected]> Date: 31st December 2006, 07:53
Good morning,
You’re in the shower. I’m laying on my bed wondering how I’m going to survive this week. We’ve always been good together, I think. But I’ve never, ever seen you like that before. In a good way. The best way.
Baby, you know I still love you, don’t you? I’m going to say that to your face any second now, so you will already know by the time you read this. Do you love me too?
Keep wearing my t-shirts. Take that one home with you so you can wear it when we Skype, and I can remember the morning you ruined my life. That one looks better on you anyway. God. We’ve got five days left and I’m already hating the thought of you going home. Is it insane to ask you to stay longer? Probably. You’ve got work. Tonight I'm going to kiss you at midnight and make a wish.
I love you.
I hope you say it back.
PS - it won’t be too long before I’m home. Please wait for me. We can be birds again.
From: You <[email protected]> To: Wonwoo <[email protected]> Date: 1st January 2007, 08:29
I love you too.
Don’t worry, Wonwoo. We’re always birds.

Miraculous Ladybug Season 6 Airdates January and February (+some other junk)
THAT'S RIGHT WE ARE FINALLY BACK!!
These dates have been out for awhile now, so I'm sorry for how late this is! My motivation for this blog has been entirely tied to personal life/ interest in the show, and since it hasn't been airing consistently and I've been busy with school it's been rough. But... here we are!
Before I get to more yapping, here are the dates! All of these can be found on the Disney Channel US website (if you're looking for a source), but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if another international network beats Disney in premiering at least one of these episodes in the next month or so. However, I'll make sure to be on the lookout so I can let you guys know/ update the post if necessary.
THE ILLUSTRHATER ✔️ Airdate: January 24th Time: 7:45 pm Brasilia Standard Time Channel: Mundo Gloob Language: Portuguese
THE ILLUSTRHATER ENGLISH DUB ✔️ Airdate: January 25th Time: 11:00 am Eastern Standard Time Channel: Disney Channel USA Language: English
SUBLIMATION ✔️ Airdate: January 31st Time: 7:45 pm Brasilia Standard Time Channel: Mundo Gloob Language: Portuguese
SUBLIMATION ENGLISH DUB ✔️ Airdate: February 1st Time: 11:00 am Eastern Standard Time Channel: Disney Channel USA Language: English
WEREPAPAS ✔️ Airdate: February 7th Time: 7:45 pm Brasilia Standard Time Channel: Mundo Gloob Language: Portuguese
DADDYCOP ✔️ Airdate: February 8th Time: 11:00 am Eastern Standard Time Channel: Disney Channel USA Language: English
WEREPAPAS ENGLISH DUB ✔️ Airdate: February 15th Time: 11:00 am Eastern Standard Time Channel: Disney Channel USA Language: English
So- it seems like this new era of miraculous is already off to a great start in the world of out of order airing with episodes 2-5 airing before episode one [EDIT: WE ARE NOW ALSO GETTING EPISODE 11 BEFORE EPISODE ONE ARE YOU KIDDING] , so I'm sorry to anyone who wants to watch it in order! However, hopefully nothing too crazy happens in the first episode that isn't recapped by the 2nd, so maybe you can watch these episodes as they come out anyway without too much confusion (doubt) [AGAIN, PROBABLY NO LONGER APPLIES W/ EPISODE 11 AIRING BEFORE OTHERS 💀] Either way, I'll try to let you guys know what the vibe is in that department (in the least spoilery way possible) , and at the end of the day its entirely up to you guys as viewers what you want to do! I'm sure we all have our routine with out of order airing by this point in time haha.
As for the blog, new pinned post dropped, partially revamped the look, and I will continue to post as necessary!
Excited to go on this journey with y'all, and here's to the new season :)

Hey I loveddddd the legging pervert!spencer fic, I’d love another one, maybe a part 2, or maybe just another with the same reader and perv!spencer. I love your fics!
SWEAT FOR ME ´-

In which Spencer has a different kind of workout in mind.
pairing perv!spence x leggings!reader genre smut (18+) cw reader is part of the bau + certified gym rat, gym semi public sex, male masturbation, fingering and oral (f receiving), p in v, fwb relationship wc 3,8k a/n we have an official reader! yippie! this is not a pt. 2 but another story in this universe. tysm for this request! feel free to send in more for them :)
Being a loyal gym member came with its set of advantages.
The tenth anniversary of your membership at Quantico’s “Fit4FBI” was coming up. When you joined the BAU, you had signed yourself up for the FBI’s designated training center. Though it was essential for your job to be in good condition, this gym also had the natural pattern of people massively joining during the first weeks of January and collectively giving up around the holidays.
You were one of the few customers that visited regularly. To be specific, every day that you weren’t out on a case. The gym felt like a refuge to you, a place to blow off steam and clear your head from the gruesome cases that seemed to always be on your mind.
You were quick to befriend the owner, Mr. Isaac Dalton, a man in his mid-sixties (but don’t be fooled by his age; there is no trainer as encouraging and persistent as him). It all started with your suggestion to introduce a boxing lesson as a break from the usual Wednesday Pilates classes. It seemed like a small thing to you — boxing has been part of your life since childhood. But to him? It meant everything.
From that day on, you were his favorite customer. Hell, his favorite person even. You gained access to the staff dressing rooms, even to the staff showers — which were a huge upgrade from the shared customer spaces that made even a high school gym look good. Yes, it was that bad. You now knew where they were cutting on the budget to be able to afford the tablets and private jet.
But the best benefit that came with being a star customer was getting the title of rightful owner to a spare set of shiny keys.
Going to the gym after closing hours was the best thing that could happen to you. You were sure that the handover of the keys was a moment that not even your future wedding or the birth of your first child could ever beat. No more eyeing the Smith machine while walking the treadmill, waiting for the right opportunity to take a sprint and claim it before someone else did. No more cleaning of seats because the people before you were too lazy to wipe their sweat away. And thank God, no more annoying people complaining in your ear about how exhausting working out is. Well… besides Spencer.
“I- I can’t,” he panted, letting the dumbbells fall to the ground beside him. In moments like this, you couldn’t help but regret offering him personal training when the gym was supposed to be closed.
You placed your hands on your hips, not hiding the look of judgment as he lay on the training bench, chest heaving like he had just climbed Mount Everest. On heels.
“I truly wonder what you did to pass the physical exam.”
“I was in a remedial training program,” he put his hand on his pounding heart, taking a deep breath before continuing. “They needed new agents in the field, so they made me an exception.”
Well, that explains it.
You shook away your thoughts, extending your hand to help him up. With a groan he stood, legs wobbly as he held onto your shoulders. Your skin felt soft and cool, in contrast to his clammy hands.
Naturally, he started massaging your shoulders, causing a small groan to leave your lips. Spencer was about to slide his fingers under the band of your sports bra, but you stopped him.
“We should do a leg exercise next. Maybe your legs are stronger than your arms.”
Now it was his turn to groan. “Have you seen me? I’m not even standing straight right now.”
“I know, Bambi,” you chuckled jokingly. “People usually find leg extensions one of the easier exercises. You’ll be fine.”
“That makes sense. Your legs are part of your body’s largest muscle groups. Studies have shown that your creatine kinase and myoglobin levels increase significantly after an arm exercise compared to a leg exercise.” He explained as you walked to the equipment at the back of the gym.
You raised an eyebrow. “And that means?”
“It means that your arms are easier to get sore than your legs. They’re also easier to get damaged and heal after an extensive workout.”
You hummed, saving the information to the back of your mind. There must be a day when these random facts will come in handy.
Spencer continued his info dumping as you changed the amount of weights on the machine, putting the pin into 80 lb — a standard beginner’s weight.
You clapped your hands when you were finished. “Okay, you’re all set up.”
“What do I do?” He asked cluelessly.
“Take a seat.”
He did as you said, waiting for further instruction.
“And now you place your feet under the lever and lift it up. You can hold onto the handles for support.”
Spencer followed your instructions, holding onto the levers before he lifted his legs. He paused them at the top for a moment before slowly lowering them back down.
“That’s it. Good job.”
Spencer didn’t respond to your compliment. Concentration was etched onto his face. His eyebrows were furrowed and his mouth slightly agape as he repeated the motion. His tongue poked out to the side as he counted the reps in his head, occasionally wetting his lips.
You looked at him. First to make sure he was executing the exercise correctly, but you quickly got distracted. Sweat dripped down his neck, the droplets falling into the white tank top that he wore. At this point it wouldn’t have made a difference if he wore a shirt or not, the fabric being so translucent that you could see the color of his skin.
Your eyes traced him until they landed on his arms. He had a tight grip on the handles, making the veins that decorated his arms and hands look prominent.
Your gaze fell even lower — and it really shouldn’t have — because now you noticed how his shorts have ridden all the way up to his thighs. It wouldn’t surprise you if they dated back to high school. The material clung tightly to him, and every time he tilted his legs, the shorts bulged around his crotch.
To put it simply, he looked hot. Extremely hot.
Get your head out of the gutter. He’s here to train, to gain more confidence in the field. Not to be your personal eye candy.
You were supposed to stay with him the entire time, as a personal trainer does. But you don’t think you can stand here for a second longer trying to fight the urge to jump him.
“I’m going to do some sets on the Smith machine,” you pointed toward the device that stood a couple of feet away, still in clear sight.
Again, no response from the still focused Spencer.
You made your way over to the machine, picking out the weights that you wanted to add to the bar. In routine, you positioned yourself under the bar, placing your feet at shoulder-width, before bending your knees.
In the meantime, Spencer had completed his set of reps. He grabbed his water bottle from the ground next to him, feeling like a real gym jock as he gulped the contents down, then wiped his mouth with the back of his fist.
He looked up to find you. And he was so grateful that he had swallowed, or there’d be a fountain of water bursting from his lips right now.
He didn’t know what a Smith machine entailed, but he definitely didn’t expect to find you in a squatting position yet again. His eyes went to your ass first, obviously. Seeing how perfectly you filled out your leggings, the fabric clinging to every curve, giving the illusion that it could rip at any given moment.
But then his eyes snapped to your upper back. How the muscles in your shoulders flexed as you lifted the bar of weights. There was something so enticing about how strong you were. He thought back on all the times he had pinned you down underneath him, not having realized that you could easily spin him around. Dominate him.
A shiver soared through his body, straight to his pulsing cock. He looked down, embarrassed to find himself twitching, the tip of his cock begging to escape from under his shorts. He placed a hand on his bulge — meant to stop himself — but with the way you kept bending down, he had no choice but to rub his hand over his length.
A breathy moan escaped his throat as he watched you. He imagined lying down on the ground beneath you — germs and safety hazards be damned — holding you by your hips as you’d press your bare cunt into his face. He’d make sure to make the most out of every squat, licking your folds and kissing your clit, before you stood back up.
Spencer didn’t know during which set his hand had found its way into his shorts, only that he struggled to keep quiet as he tugged on his length. His eyes rolled back as he circled his tip with his thumb, collecting precum and using it as lube to stroke the rest of his cock.
He fantasized about you walking up to him, holding onto his shoulders as you’d climb on top of his lap. How you would free his cock from the restraints of his boxers. The way your mouth would open in a gasp at the sight of his throbbing length springing free. You would grab him by the shaft, rubbing his tip against your puffy lips before sinking down onto him. His hands would clasp onto your ass, massaging the flesh like his cock would massage your inner walls as he pumped his length into you.
“Oh fuck,” he muttered, flicking his wrist faster as his gaze remained burnt on you.
He had his eyes closed shut, nearing the brink of an orgasm, when he heard the loud clang of the bar attaching to the machine. At record speed, he adjusted his length, tugging his tank top over his shorts in an effort to hide how hard he was. He then wiped his hands on his shorts, just in time before you walked up to him.
“Hey,” you said, out of breath. “How did it go?”
“Good! Good. I completed all the sets, actually.”
A beautiful, bright smile tilted at the corner of your lips. It almost distracted him from the way your breasts pushed up in your sports bra, shining in a light coat of sweat. Almost.
“I thought of another exercise we could do,” Spencer suggested.
Curiosity filled your mind. “Okay, gym rat. Let’s hear it.”
Spencer walked you to the hip abductor, a machine that trains the muscles of your inner thighs and glutes by sitting down and spreading your legs against the resistance of the padded weights.
You waited for him to sit down, but he remained standing behind you. Your neck flushed with goosebumps as he leaned in, breath tickling the skin. “I want you to use it.”
“Okay,” you chirped, trying not to show how much his proximity was affecting you.
“Uh, uh, uh,” he tsked as you stepped forward. He wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you flush against him. And that’s when you felt it. His erection poking at your lower back.
“You can’t possibly work out in an outfit like this,” he said, fingers playing with the waistband of your leggings.
You narrowed your eyes. “What do you mean?”
His hand slid lower into the fabric, fingers grazing your hip bones. “I think you should take these off. Don’t want it to be ruined with sweat, or you know, something else.”
You raised your eyebrow. “Is that a challenge, Reid?”
“You never seemed to back down from one before,” he dared.
A glint of mischief flickered in your eyes. You hooked your fingers into the waistband of your leggings, and you swore you could hear him take in a sharp breath.
You bent over. In an agonizing slowness, you pulled your leggings down, revealing the plumpness of your bare skin.
“Jesus, you’re beautiful,” Spencer praised, eyes scanning the curves of your nude ass and legs.
You slipped away from his grasp, grinning as you took your place at the seat of the machine. As the manual explained, you spread your legs, grateful that you kept the weights at beginner’s level.
You threw your head back laughing as Spencer kneeled in front of you, finally making the connection on what he was about to do. “You are absolutely insane. Do you know that I could crush your head with these weights?”
He hummed, not really caring about the possible consequences as he was face to face with your spread-open pussy. “It’ll be worth it.”
He reached out with his finger, drawing a line up your slick folds. “Also — considering your expertise in exercises like this, and the fact that the weights are way less heavy than the ones you’d usually choose — I estimate that my chances of not dying are pretty high tonight.”
Before you could give a clever response back, he pressed his finger down on your clit. A shudder coursed through your body, accompanied by a flutter of butterflies.
“You’re so wet already,” Spencer mused. “What have you been thinking of?”
“Same thing as you,” you responded, thinking back on how hard his cock was when he pressed it against you.
He continued trailing his fingers up and down your slit, warming you up, before halting them at your entrance. “Ready?”
You nodded hastily, anticipation pulling at your core.
Spencer slipped a finger inside of you with ease, groaning at the sweet sound that escaped your lips. Being fingered never felt special before; that was until you met Spencer. Though it wasn’t fair to compare him to any of the other people you’ve been with. His fingers were heavenly: long, slender, soft. He pumped it in and out of your pussy before leaning in and capturing your clit with his tongue. Surprise washed over you, but you didn’t have time to adjust to the feeling. He clouded your mind by switching between flicking his tongue and sucking on the bundle, while his finger matched the steady rhythm.
“Need more,” you whimpered, rolling your hips into his face. He hummed against your clit, the vibrations sending tingles through every part of your body.
When he pulled back, his lips were glistening with your juices. “Can you handle another finger?” He asked as he swiped his tongue over his lips.
You quickly nodded, not even needing him to ask for permission. He stretched you out by inserting another finger, not stopping until he was knuckle-deep inside of you.
“I like this machine,” he stated, curling his digits up to your g-spot. “I don’t need to hold your thighs open to keep you from squirming.”
You softly cried as the tips of his fingers hit your pleasure point, increasing his pace in a way that made you see stars.
“You look so pretty. All spread out for me, letting me use you how I want.” He muttered, more to himself than to you, before he attached his lips back onto your pussy.
The pleasure felt overwhelming. Spencer stimulated you with his hands and mouth in all the spots that he could. He was good at this. Too good at this. You felt almost sad when you felt the familiar heat building up, not wanting it to be over yet.
Still, you gasped, “Just like that!” Your hands were gripping the handles of the machine for dear life as the tip of his tongue drew figure eights against your clit.
Everything cut to white noise, your abdomen tightened, and your hips started spasming until you finally cried out his name.
Your body trembled in aftershocks as Spencer made sure to lap up your juices, not wanting a single drop to go to waste.
He stood up, taking his time as he lovingly grazed your cheek with his clean hand. “Felt good?”
You hummed in response. Your eyes fluttered to the obvious tent in his shorts, not able to ignore it. “That looks painful,” you observed.
“I really want to be inside of you.” He confessed.
His words made you chuckle. Spencer always made sure to satisfy you first, before thinking of his own needs. Even when his achingly red tip had been leaking precum ever since he saw you in that gym outfit earlier today.
“Where do you want me?” You purred, making a groan escape his throat. He loved the way you let him take direction, how you made it seem like he was the one in charge — when you were both completely aware of the fact that you could have him on his knees at any given time and at any place that you’d like.
His eyes scanned the gym, landing on an empty bench.
“That one.” He decided, like he chose some Sour Patch Kids in a candy shop.
You got up — used to having shaky legs due to working out every day — and took Spencer’s hand in yours, guiding him to the sole bench next to the colored kettlebells.
Spencer was glad you were holding his hand, or otherwise he’d have stumbled against every surrounding object, too entranced by the way your hips moved from side to side with every step that you took. If he wasn’t so hypnotized by the sight, he would’ve given your ass a slap — more like a tap — not enough to cause you pain, but enough for you to squeal. Enough for you to move to your tiptoes in reflex. Enough to see your ass shake.
As if born ready, you laid down on the bench, spreading your legs that bent perfectly due to the position you’d just held for minutes.
Spencer didn’t waste any time, pulling his shorts and boxers down in a single, swift movement, his cock jumping free from its confinements. You grinned when he also got rid of his tank top. You bit your lip as you looked at him, wet curls of hair sticking to his forehead and his chest glistening in a light layer of sweat.
His large hands wrapped around your ankles, holding you in place. He then tilted his hips until his length lined up with your needy pussy. A drip of precum spilled from his tip, cock aching as he took in how perfect you looked: your clit still swollen from his tongue, and your soft thighs glittering from the wetness that was still leaking out of you.
In a single motion, he pushed himself in. His cock disappearing all the way in between your folds.
Your brows furrowed and your mouth hung open as he started moving his hips, not giving you the time to recover.
“‘M sorry,” he mumbled. “You just feel too good. So warm. Couldn’t wait.”
Your hands gripped around the air, needing something to hold onto as he fucked you deeply.
You settled on your tits. Cupping them through your sports bra, pinching your nipples that were so hard they poked right through the layer of fabric.
“Oh fuck, baby, you look so hot like that.” Spencer moaned. “I’m so lucky,” he said in awe.
He opened your legs further — surprising you with your flexibility — as he hovered above you. His cock slipped in even deeper, your pussy swallowing him to the hilt. You could feel every vein as he massaged your inner walls, relieving you of your aching. He was close enough for you to dig your nails into his shoulder blades. He didn’t attempt to muffle his whimpers when you pressed little half-moon indents into his back. Your in-sync moans and the colliding of bare skin were the only sounds that echoed off the bare gym walls.
Spencer anchored you in place with his length while his hand reached out to pull the cup of your bra down, freeing your breast. In a second his mouth was latched onto your nipple, sucking on it like he was a man starving.
“Kiss me,” you whimpered, hands tugging at his hair. You needed to feel those soft, pink lips on yours.
As much as he loved your tits, he obeyed in an instant. Hungrily locking his mouth with yours. He placed his bent arms on either side of your head, large hands cupping your face as he kissed you intensely. His tongue swiped against yours in the same exquisite way as the tip of his cock swiped the place inside of you where you needed him most.
“Legs hurt,” he whined against your mouth.
“Count it- fuck,” you moaned as he thrust deep into you. “Count it as an exercise.”
He chuckled breathlessly. “This might be the hardest one yet.”
Literally, you thought. But the word couldn’t make it past your lips, transforming into a high-pitched moan as he upped his speed.
“Just like that, please, Spencer,” you cried out.
There was no bigger motivation than your sweet pleas filling his ears. With all his might, he slammed into you, your pussy pulsing around him, making his vision hazy. All that was on his mind was you. How you felt. How you tasted. How he needed to spill inside of you.
A string of yes’s repeatedly left your lips, signaling to him that you were close.
“I’m going to come inside of you,” he announced, swallowing your moans by pressing his lips back to yours.
You clawed at his back, bucking your hips up into him until a jolt of electricity shot through your body. Your back arched off the bench as you gave yourself over to the all-consuming feeling. It was not even a second later when Spencer’s legs gave out. His cock twitching as spurts of white filled your insides.
He collapsed on top of you, feeling your racing heartbeat against him. For a moment you lay down like that, on the way too narrow bench. Enjoying each other’s presence as a comfortable silence filled the air.
Once his breathing had calmed down, Spencer seemed to notice a small, red flickering light that was attached to the ceiling. A security camera.
“Hey,” he started, asking for your attention.
You made a small sound, too exhausted to speak.
“You have the keys to the office, right?”
“No, just to the entrance. Why?”

Composite Observations

💔 Ive noticed that alot of long term couples have asteroid briede conjunct the sun which makes sense because its literally the asteroid of marriage and union.
💔 Cancer rising couples will find it very hard to leave each other even when they arent good for each other. From the moment these two meet they feel so comfortable with each other and will feel like "home". They are each others comfort people but ive often noticed that these relationships tend to stagnate especially if the rest of the chart has complicated placements. They are also very moody around each other lmfao. The fights get intense and almost "domestic" which is why its important to be careful w cancer placements because codependancy can become an issue.
💔Gemini Rising couples are so cute and fun omg. So flirty and when youre near them you wont even feel like youre third wheeling. The fun couple.
💔 Libra Rising/ Venus in 1st house omg literally everybody shipped us together. Everyone always assumed we liked each other(which i did but he didnt) and told us we had such good chemistry. We looked really good next to each other but it was hard getting close to him beyond that. Our Venus was in libra first house but it squared our 7th house ruler mars in the 10th house, so we argued alot since the day we met. Our arguements were public and everyone had an opinion but they also all shipped us at the same time lmfao. If you do tarot you would know that justice is represented by Libra so our entire friendship had themes of "justice" in it. Our disagreements sometimes became very bitter.
💔 About 10th house mars, im starting to not like this placement ngl. I definitely feel like in this house it acts more as a malefic. There will be power struggles and difficulties seeing eye to eye if AFFLICTED. I think if its not afflicted then maybe you can push each other to grow together in yalls career but for the person I had this with it was our 7th house ruler and made multiple squares in the chart. Literally everybody had an opinion in our business and also like i said the fights were intense. The thing is we were immature kids. Im sure if we were adults it wouldnt have been that bad and we wouldnt have acted out of ego but it was hard seeing beyond it sometimes. Now as im older I feel like im starting to really admire how talented he is( I always have) but in a way now where I want to support him instead of trying to piss him off lol. Another thing is when Mars transited over our composite 10th house we had a huge fight and everyone at school knew it. I cut him off.
💔 Speaking of transits yall pleaseee look at them for the composite chart they are so so so accurate. They have predicted almost every issue I had with him. Another thing I noticed was if you set the transit for January 1st of that year it will predict the themes between u and that person off the composite transits. Every year this had been so accurate as to what happened and its worked for multiple couples I observed. For example when venus and mars was transit on the 5th house during new years the couple started dating that year. It acts as a solar return.
💔 Alot of long term couples have sun in 4th house composite and they are actually healthy.
💔 I love 11th house placements in the composite like yall will just naturally get along so well. This is the true "crush" feeling you would get sometimes more so than the 5th house but instead yall will have a friend dynamic. Just be careful not to get friendzoned LMFAO
💔 8th house placements are not for the weak and having it in the composite can be more complicated than having it in synastry. You were meant to meet this person because both of yall need to go through a psychological change through a partnership of some kind. I dont think 8th house placements are toxic if people are self aware but theres not a lot of people out there who are mature like that at a young age.
💔 Good luck if you have saturn in 12th house with someone. Yall will constantly have issues that neither of yall will understand how to fix. Boundries will be nonexistant and honestly it will be hard to form a partnership. This is IF yall hide from each other and do not communicate. You need to be vulnerable with each other. This is one of the biggest indicaters of a karmic partnership and its painful. Theres always this feeling of something feeling off and hurt in the back of your mind even when something isnt wrong. Ive seen from astrologers that saturn feels comfortable in this house and saturn here represents longevity but the benefits of this placement will not come through until yall go through some serious struggle.
💔 Chiron conjunct the mc will expose all of yalls pain to the public. A couple that had this through aries chiron transit the MC made it known eventually that they become toxic and everyone just thought of them as the couple that fights and hurts each other alot. They also broke up near this time.
💔 Ive noticed that the MC represents the status of the relationship. Having jupiter transit the MC made the couple have good luck and were trying to get together romantically. They also had asteroid anteros(god of requited/mutual love) conjunct jupiter in 10th house as a transit and EVERYONE was talking about them at school and were trying to get the two together.
💔 Lowkey I feel like davison charts(which can be read exactly like a composite) are even more accurate than composite charts. Not to say composites arent accurate but when it comes down to showing the overall long term duration of the couple I found that davisons are more accurate.
💔 If yall have venus square saturn just pack it up lmfao the universe do NOT want yall together and I often see couples trying to work it out but in the long term they often arent compatible. They force it and try to go against the grain and it never works out.
💔 I hate seeing jupiter squares in composites yalls values will be so difficult to align
💔 Jupiter in the 5th house is such a good place for romance. Ive also heard of couples doing "it" very early on in the relationship and most of them had this placement.

Hope Yall Enjoyed💋

Caitlyn has missed you. She’s been out all day, getting work done, getting, frankly, incredibly pissed off. You’re all she can think about as she addresses a meeting full of idiots, as she stomps around and barks orders. Your soft body, the way you smile at her, the way you looked so cute this morning, when she got up and left the house before you woke up. You’re all she’s thinking about as she stuffs her key in the door, pushing it open roughly with her shoulder so she can see you. When she finally does you look up from your book, startled. You weren’t expecting her home quite this early. She doesn't look happy, and you slowly put your tea down on the coffee table, before sitting up against the couch. “Hi, Caitie. How was work?”
“Shut up,” she grunts, stomping her way over to you. Then before you know what's happening she's got her weight on you, and you grunt, feeling yourself pushed back against the couch. Ah. Alright. This is what we're doing.
“Missed you so much,” Cait all but slurs, grabbing at your shirt, long, slender fingers clumsily trying to pull it off. “Gonna rape you, okay? Gonna rape this pretty fuckin pussy.” And then she pauses, slightly, you can feel it; a nod from you, yes, Catie, you can rape me, and she's grabbing at you like it's the last chance she'll ever get. Her mouth latches onto your neck, it's less a kiss and more like she's trying to eat you alive. “Fuckin whore. Missed you so much, fuck, baby– gonna hurt you so bad.” You groan in response, squirming slightly where you've been unceremoniously slammed into the couch. She licks a stripe up your neck, and begins to pull off your clothes, leaving them in a pile on the floor by the couch. She smells like sweat and the last notes of your perfume, her hands are rough, her breath heavy, her muscles twitching and shaking.
“Stupid fucking– mm,” she's too overwhelmed to insult you, so instead she just grabs your face, kissing you wet, heavy, slow. You're pretty sure you feel her spit in your mouth. One of her hands tangles in your hair, grabs a fistfull of it, and the other moves down your body, grabbing, groping, exploring.
She pulls roughly at your hips, trying to tug you closer to her. “Come here.” She kisses you, again, licking her tongue into your mouth, everything feels vaguely sticky and wet. You pant, trying your best to process everything that's happening. “Fuck, Caitie– slow down,” “What don't you understand about shut up?” she spits, literally, leaning up over you and spitting on your chest. She gathers the saliva with the pad of her thumb and brings it down to your nipple, circling around the sensitive skin and watching as the temperature change makes it perk up. The stimulation sends tingles down your stomach and you bite your lip to suppress a whine. She groans, a sadistic sort of grin on her face, and kisses you again, leaving open-mouthed, wet kisses on your face. She can taste the sweat and the makeup on your skin, it makes her dizzy. She is so, unbearably hard, and you look so good under her.
You whine, and she pinches your nipple. “‘S gross, baby,” you're pouting, and right hand on the bible, Cait feels her heart stutter. “You don't like it?” She spits on you again, just so see that pout, saliva landing right under your eye. “Take my fuckin dick out, baby. Stop complainin. I know you like it, fuck– yeah, that's it, good girl, good baby…” The metal of her jean buttons is cool against your fingers, and you can feel warm saliva rolling down your cheekbone, to your hairline, as you pull her trousers off, palming her through her panties. She is indeed, very hard. You can feel the warm wet of her precum leaking through the fabric, and she lets out a long, low moan, pressing her face into your shoulder. And she bites, making you gasp, the sting deep in your muscle.
“Oh you fucking bitch, what a good girl. Hmm? Does that- ohh, fuck, fuck. Let me- shit, baby. C’mere.”
The first thing you register is her cold, harsh hands on your thighs, pressing them apart. You can feel her wedding ring on one finger, the metal digging into your warm skin, and she scoots up to get a good look at your pussy, wet and waiting for her. “Good girl,” she croons, dribbling more spit onto the sensitive skin. She presses a thumb to your clit, harsh, making you gasp and arch your back. She grins. “You gonna take it, sweetheart?” She works her length out of her pants, circling her thumb around your clit as she gets them off, a little awkwardly. You nod, and she begins to work her middle finger into your entrance, jerking off her tip in time, groaning under her breath. Her slender digits stretch you out deliciously, curling into your soft walls and making you mewl, her technique practiced and precise- she knows her girl, knows what gets you off, what makes your eyes go fuzzy and your pussy go nice and loose. She mutters something about fucking slut you don’t quite catch, and then grabs at your thighs to rest them around her hips.
Cait presses her tip against your entrance, azure eyes half-lidded and filled with lust. “Fuck, I missed you,” she mumbles, eyes locked on your love like she’s talking right to your pussy, but her left hand dips down to entwine her fingers with yours. She squeezes, hard. And then with a groan she presses the head of her cock into your pussy, your warmth squeezing her so wonderfully tight, and she can’t help but press her weight further, burying her length in you, eyes closed in complete serenity and bliss.
You on the other hand, are struggling.
“Caitie- Cait,” you whine, trying to reason with her, squeezing her cool hand in your own. Her girth always stretches you out, you’d think after years with the woman it’d get easier. But no, the stretch still stings, and she still goes so deep you can feel it in your tummy, poking at your insides. She responds by rutting into you, forcing you to just take it, you both know you can. “You’re fine,” Caitlyn says almost soothingly, still pressing on your clit, she’s trying really hard not to just fuck you senseless right now. She’ll wait. And eventually you do relax, the pain subsiding to a pleasant full feeling. Immediately she’s taking the opportunity, pulling her hips back and snapping them forward again, cock bullying your newly accustomed walls, earning a lewd squelch. “Tha’s it,” She groans, beginning to fuck you properly, her weight pressing yours into the couch, sticky, hot skin smothering you. The sensation fills your tummy with warmth and you moan loudly, back arching to take her dick better.
Cait growls into your skin, thrusting her hips hard, as if trying to get out all her frustration on you in a single round. Your walls squeeze her so good and she can hardly think straight, her head spinning, the only thoughts in her mind about pounding you, raping you, emptying her load so deep in your pussy a part of her becomes embedded in you forever and she never has to let you go. Hot, overwhelming pleasure fills your body, blooming from between your thighs all the way up to the back of your throat. “Baby- mmf, fuck,” you mewl, squeezing her waist with your thighs, which earns you a harsh slap because it slows her down and she can’t have that. Almost as an apology she shifts to kiss you, licking into your mouth, encouraging your tongue to push into hers so she can suck on it.
The feeling is mind-numbing, and you whimper into her mouth, unable to do anything but take it, take her mouth, her dick, her treatment. She fucks at a relentless pace already, bullying your pussy and giving your clit enough attention to make you cry. The smell of sweat and sex fills the living room, your book layed neglected on a couch cushion, and the only thing you can hear is Cait groaning, muttering into your skin, and the steady plap, plap, plap sound of nasty sex. You can barely get a word in and when you do, she swallows it up greedily like it’s the only thing she's been craving. She fucks you like it’s the last chance she’ll get, like she’s been waiting, waiting to fuck you like this since the first time this morning some idiot made her jaw clench.
“Fuck, baby, such a good whore…love this pussy, sh’takes me so well, huh? Yeah, yeah…” Cait trails off somewhat breathlessly, burying her dick so deep it makes your eyes prick up and all you can do is gasp uselessly against her lips, overwhelmed by sensations and already feeling your tummy start to clench as your orgasm approaches. Your eyes flutter, and she hisses as your left hand finds her back, raking harsh, red lines into her pale skin. She doesn’t let up, doesn’t change pace. Just pants and growls into your ear, hitting that spot so deep inside you over, and over, and over, making that knot so impossibly tight you think you might cry.
Suddenly she changes the way she touches you, going from slow circles around your clit to fast, hard side-to-side motions. “Ah-..!” You squeal, nails digging further into her back, the unforgiving pace of it all making you writhe, making your body feel like it’s on fire. “Fuck, fuck, right there, fuck, Caittttcaitcaitcaitcait!” You babble, thighs shaking and pussy squeezing so tight around her. She groans your name with an almost predatory look in her eyes, moaning loudly when your release does come. She works you through it relentlessly, keeping up her bruising thrusts, working your clit till you stop shaking, till you moans becomes whines and then squeaks. At that point she shifts her weight, leaning over your body and pressing herself completely against you. She ruts into you, chasing her own release, teeth bared and drooling onto your shoulder, her fingers gripping onto your thigh and gripping it so hard it hurts.
“Take it, take it, take it, take it,” she repeats like a mantra, rutting into you every time she says the words. You can feel her dick twitch, pulse against your walls- and then with a heavy groan she cums, shaky hips pressed flush against yours. Even through your hazy mind you’re lucid enough to appreciate the way it fills you up, a warm, gooey feeling you can’t get anywhere else, from anyone else. She stays pressed up against you for a few seconds while you both catch your breath, before pulling out gingerly.
“Good girl,” she hums, pressing kisses up your shoulder to your neck, your cheeks, your mouth. She laps up any drool that wound up on your chin, hands running appreciatively over your twitchy body. “Took me so well. Such a pretty girl, hm?” One more kiss, “Sorry I spat on you.”

'FOGGY STREETS AND CHRISTMAS LIGHTS'
(part 3/3)
I'm gonna infodump about the backstory of this comic, don't feel obligated to read it because it's not cotl related it's just personal stuff, I just want to be able to write about it somewhere cause I can't really talk to anyone about it.
As always, thanks for reading this far, sorry my stuff has been such a bummer so consistently. This comic goes out to all my "christmas induced depression" homies, I left my house maybe like ~5 times all month and it was NOT pleasant hearing "IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR!!" on the radio when I'm so ready for it to be over. Gonna take it reaaaaal easy til the year ends, you guys take it easy too!! Got some asks I have to respond to when I'm more stable but probably no new comic pages til january
Alright uhhh so this part of the comic is pretty much taken directly from the last time I saw my great-grandma alive, a few days before christmas. She didn't remember me, but at the nursing home there was a piano, and I sat down and played some stuff because I didn't know what to say. I was really into lisa the painful rpg at the time, and I played that "I've got the joy" song that the villain sings without realizing it was an old christian campfire song. She didn't really say much or move that whole night, just kind of gave me a polite blank smile, but started singing the words when I played the notes to that song.
I kinda stopped in shock, my dad frantically asked me to keep playing, so I did. While the comic I made is way more sappy than the actual moment was, I wish I'd cherished the moment longer. I didn't know it was the last time I'd see her alive. Every family christmas was held at her house when she was around, so it's been weird the past few years. I actually lost another dementia-addled grandma to cancer on christmas eve in 2009, so the holiday was already kind of weird for me on top of everything else that makes me sad this time of year. That's what part 2 was about, I'll spare the details but I wrote leshy to act out how I felt back then. Why are we all sad? This is supposed to be a happy time, all the decorations are up and we're almost all here, so why is everyone smiling yet everything feels so wrong? I feel like since leshy's canonically the most ignorant one to things lurking below the surface, he'd be the one to try and make everyone feel better but not quite understand why everyone is so miserable. My first memory of having self injurious behavior came from then, hence why I had leshy pull his leaves off in the last comic. It was confusing and frustrating and I was just old enough to comprehend something was wrong, but not old enough to understand the depth of it, it DEFINITELY didn't help that nobody helped me back then so I made leshy's siblings actually come in clutch instead of grabbing him/yelling at him.
That night with the piano was something that's stuck with me the few years she's been gone, but I felt kind of strange when I asked my dad and my sister about it and neither of them remembered it. The room we were in was completely empty so nobody else witnessed it but us three. I myself have a history of head trauma and memory loss (plus, native americans are disproportionately more likely to develop dementia... lucky us) so if I ever forgot about that moment, there'd be nobody left to remember it. Sometimes when I do comics, it's my way of going "this happened at some point, and the only evidence it ever happened was me witnessing it, so if something happens to me I want the memory to stay alive in some form."
Anyway. The autistic urge to overshare, am I right? Idk what my religious ass great-grandma would think of me drawing demonic comics about my last memory of her, she'd probably think it's funny though cause she raised my dad whose interests have always been "death metal and devil worship". I'm not sure if anyone read this far, I just hope my dumb comics can convey the things I can't say with my voice and struggle to say through text. None of this was supposed to be "feel bad for me!! Woe is me!!", it was supposed to me more like...cathartic? Healing? I almost didn't post this comic because it felt kinda weird, but seeing people connect with it made it worth it imo. Thank you
