Cellbit isn’t in the castle when he gets back. Roier checks every room that he can.

Worry and paranoia claw at the back of his mind, but he disregards it. It’s not inexplicable; it’s not like…

He pulls out his warpstone, tracing the runes in a pattern that’s just started becoming normal to him as he disappears in a cloud of purple.

His footsteps are quiet against the planked floor, and he takes in all the photos and canvases adorning the walls with a heavy heart. He keeps walking, towards the bed.

He’s right.

He knew his husband would be here, but the sight doesn’t lift any weight from his chest.

The dark fuchsia jacket has been shrugged off, discarded on a nearby table. Tears tracks carve his cheeks under his sunken eyes. Even in sleep, his fingers are curled tightly, almost protectively, around the small yellow jersey beside him. His hands tremble.

(Even in sleep, he looks no less plagued than he has the last few days.)

Maybe he should be waking Cellbit up. But he doesn’t have the heart for that.

Instead, he cautiously climbs onto the bed himself, carefully wedging himself into the gap between Cellbit’s back and the wall as his arm curls around his husband’s torso.

Cellbit tenses momentarily, but a shuddery exhale escapes when Roier’s forehead presses against the space just under the base of his neck, between his shoulder blades.

Roier holds on tighter, eyes squeezing shut as the weight sinks deeper into his chest, threatening to crush his heart.

Hopefully his tears don’t dampen Cellbit’s shirt too much.
