what's the flight rising art direction post?? I used to play that game
for everyone who doesn't know flight rising is a virtual pet site ala neopets, but with dragons. On its forums I made a thread pointing out that the dragon designs were becoming relatively more "same face" over time, with similar face shapes and often with a similar "noodly" anatomy my point being that they were both losing some of the charm of a lot of the animals they were based on (with bug, bird, and eel inspired dragons all looking somewhat similar and mammalian), and even more pertinently, not allowing for a wide variety of body types for user characters in the game - with most of the gameplay being a dressup/character creator, you see why having very few buff, chubby, stocky, etc character designs is a pretty big downside. These are the dragons released in the first half of the website's history, with the shapes outlined:
(these pairs are the same species but have somewhat different body shapes, so they were both outlined) And these are the dragons released recently. The stockier guy on the bottom left is the very oldest of these:
I also pointed out several of these designs have very similar faces, relative to the facial variety you could have with dragon designs (other two recent guys are outlined above):
In comparison, here's some of the head shapes from earlier dragon designs:
and yeah I think you can see what I mean about the shape language getting a bit more homogeneous. I expressed that I felt like the art team may have observed the popularity of the thinner, doglike dragons in comparison to the chubby reptilian ones and decided to err towards the former.
I also drew some dragons to better get across my point about shape language when people suggested I was failing to account for the fact that the "sameface" dragons weren't entirely identical:
(obviously I'm exaggerating shapes for clarity of point; clarifying here as some people believed I was knocking the art style and wanted it to be more cartoonish...) I also pointed out that you could easily draw very identifiable fanart of two breeds which people were saying looked different:
(someone told me these didn't read as fanart of either dragon. you be the judge, I guess) I did get a lot of very nice comments, both in agreement and disagreement, but also some comments that I was being disingenuous, arrogant, or (much more dishearteningly) suggesting that fat designs are simply too unappealing and that the artists can't waste their time on it because the website is a business.
yesterday they released a sneak peak at their newest dragons, which people believe are cetacean inspired. I tuned in as the initial preview (which only featured an arm) made it look pretty stocky:
but, shocker:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
#sorry this is more salty than the original post#I don't really care anymore but I did sigh out loud when i saw the dolphin dragons

I’ve been crying over “Falling in love with Chloe was an accident.” for the past 10 minutes wtf lmao 😭😭 thats so her I cant
That line alone needs its own story
Beca tried to read the dictionary once, back in elementary school. Her classes were boring and the kids around her were boring and she figured—with the logic of a child—reading the dictionary would mean she knew what everything meant and she'd be smarter and could finish school faster. It was a brilliant, flawless plan.
She didn't even make it through the A's, because reading the dictionary was boring too. Obviously.
But she remembers some of the words she read pretty well. And one in particular has been bugging her for a while now.
Accident—An event that happens by chance or that is without apparent or deliberate cause.
There's other, less cool definitions that pop up when she googles it to make sure she remembers right. But this is the definition that sticks out to her.
A lot of things in her life have happened by accident, she thinks. Accepting her dad's college deal to get him off her back accidentally led to her finishing out her degree. Landing the job in New York accidentally led to her and Jesse breaking up. (There was another, more pressing reason, but they've silently agreed to let this be the story for now.) Not being able to afford the ridiculous rent on her own accidentally led to her having to roommate with Chloe and Amy. And, related, not being able to afford more than a studio apartment, even with the three of them chipping in, accidentally led to her sharing a bed with Chloe. For the foreseeable future.
Which brings everything back around to that more pressing reason for her and Jesse's breakup...
Falling in love with Chloe was an accident. There was Jesse and he was cool. Not a great boyfriend, but a good one. And a great friend. Which felt like a good enough balance back then. It should have worked for her.
But there was also Chloe and she was...everything. Shockingly bold, hopelessly optimistic, and undyingly kind. And beautiful. The kind of beautiful that artists desperately attempt to create. The kind that makes Beca's stomach flutter when it's too close.
Jesse noticed it first. And it wasn't until he flat out said, "You're in love with Chloe" that she was able to fully accept it herself.
Falling in love with Chloe was an accident. Except...she doesn't think it was. Because how can there not be "apparent or deliberate cause" when Chloe is constantly running her fingers along Beca’s forearms just the way she likes or waking her in the mornings by shaking her with soft hands and even softer whispers. Is it "chance" that Chloe always knows exactly how Beca wants the music she makes to be interpreted? Just chance that Chloe can sense Beca's mood without her even speaking?
It can't be, Beca thinks as she sits on the end of their bed, watching Chloe. It's just the two of them, Amy out with Bumper for the evening, and Beca's just staring as Chloe dances around the kitchen while she cooks. She hums and sways her hips to whatever song is stuck in her head today. When it comes time to add the cheese to her pasta, she opens the fridge and pulls out the cheddar. Amy's favorite is cheddar. Chloe's is pepper jack and Beca knows for a fact that there's a bag of it in the fridge, right beside where the cheddar was. The spoon taps gently against the side of the pot, musically, as Chloe stirs with one hand and conducts a silent orchestra with the other.
And that can't all be chance. Can't all be without apparent or deliberate cause. Because Chloe was made to be loved. Designed to draw people in and make them want to build a home in her presence. Everyone falls in love with her, because how could they not? And Beca, in particular, feels targeted. Because it can't be an accident that this girl who is Beca's opposite in so many ways harmonizes with her so perfectly. It just can't be.
And maybe that's why Beca speaks up.
"I love you, you know."
Chloe nearly drops the spoon as she spins around. "What did you say?"
Another time, another version of herself, she may have taken it back. Or turned it into a joke so nothing would get weird or awkward. But right here and now, she's so certain that none of this is happenstance. It was inevitable. "I'm in love with you," Beca says, shrugging. "I have been for forever. And I don't know why the hell I decided to tell you right now, but uh." She shrugs again and stands up.
Chloe hasn't moved from her place at the stove and she watches with wide eyes and trembling hands as Beca crosses the distance between them.
"I don't know, dude. You just..." Awkwardly, Beca motions to the dinner on the stove and the kitchen in general that Chloe has been dancing in for the last hour. "I just wanted to...say it. I guess. And it's totally cool if you—"
Chloe kisses her like she was made to do just that. Her arms wrap around Beca's neck with the kind of ease born of years and years of friendly hugs and maybe cosmic design. And when Beca grabs her hips to pull her in closer, Chloe’s sigh sounds so much like, "Finally".
When Chloe eventually pulls back, it's with a smile Beca knows well. She saw it that day in the showers of Barden, on stages around the world, and almost every morning since they moved in together.
"I'm in love with you too. Totes ridiculously in love." Chloe laughs against her lips as she steals another kiss. "You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that."
"You should tell me." Beca grins when Chloe kisses her again for it.
"I will. But first." Chloe winces apologetically as she removes one arm from around Beca's neck and reveals she's still holding the cheese sauce-covered spoon. "I think I just got sauce on your shirt." She tugs Beca to the side to check her back. "Shit, I totally did. I'm sorry!"
Beca just laughs. "It's okay. It was an accident."

Akira Toriyama really is a master of so many things. Panelling, line of action, character design, cartooning, expression, posing, vehicle design. I don't think there's another manga artist that comes within swinging distance of the raw appeal that some of his best art has.
Dragon Ball is a joy to read not because the story is so deep and interesting, but because the characters look so fun, all the time. You just want to keep seeing pictures of them. The action is so clear and clean and easy to read, the panelling is super great and highlights the motion of the action and gags, it's hard to stop.
This one expression. One eye bugged out, the other one squinting. Every time he does this expression it's a delight. Piccolo Daimao's entire face is molded to this expression. The way his mouth is melting down to his chin, too. I feel like I've been chasing the high of looking at Toriyama's expressions nearly all my life I've been drawing.
To the left is Yuji Horii, director of Dragon Quest's sketches of his initial ideas of these monsters, to the right is Toriyama taking those little sketches and then turning them into character designs. It's really incredible that he came up with the iconic Dragon Quest Slime from just a sketch of a gooey mess.
It's hard to even imagine a world without his incredible influence. I started drawing by looking at Dragon Ball pictures on magazines. Magazines I bought so I could look at his art. All the games and anime and manga I enjoy have clear, direct links to Toriyama, and wouldn't exist without them. Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger, obviously, he worked on them. Sonic the Hedgehog, yep, there's a *lot* of Dragon Ball in there. Super Mario? There's Dr. Slump. You really cannot escape the influence of his art. There really isn't a modern illustrator that you can remotely compare to - not just because he's so popular, but because the best qualities of his art are, I think, unmatched. So, take this opportunity to learn and appreciate what he does that's so good. Thank you so much to your contributions, birdman.

Seraphim Angel Anatomy
What are our thoughts on the anatomy of a seraph angel with 6 wings? How does that work? (Outside of it being magic. Let's have fun with science.)
The biblical description of the six-winged Seraphim angels is super minimal (Isa 6:2, 6, with some interpretation here.) But let's just say for reasons they look like people with 6 wings.
To start: What is a seraph related to? In both biblical and Hazbin Hotel lore, it's implied that (maybe some?) angels can breed with humans, which suggests that they're mammals, and very close to humans. But...I wonder if that has to do with shapeshifting or other magic? Bible nerds chime in. It's also just as interesting/valid to consider bug anatomy, and I encourage bug artists to draw a human-ish body with wings attached in dragonfly or spider style or something.
A number of people have explored the concept of angel anatomy by looking at humans and birds, like DCRoleplays on Deviantart. I also recall this image by Uzlo on Deviantart pointing out that you need pectoral muscles to move your arms/wings, so...if you have two arms and two wings, all of which move independently, you might need four pecs.
Alternatively, here's an extremely cool gif by @squidlife-crisis showing a human ribcage with human arms, the keel of a bird, and what looks like layered pectoral muscles for arms and wings. So, rather than multiple visible chests, an angel with the skin on would appear to just have a bigger chest.
But now add MORE wings. Would we have a huge chest with lots of layers of pecs attached to the keel...and would you need to change the shape of the keel to handle so many attachments?
Or, is someone gonna draw Lucifer or the other seraphim with 8 pecs? Will it be me? For science, obviously.
What are your thoughts?
#Anatomy#Speculative Anatomy#Speculative Biology#Angels#Seraphim#Hazbin Hotel#lucifer morningstar#I think a big reason I liked furry art in the past was because it was this creative exploration of anatomy#There were all these different ways to combine human and animal elements#Furry art is where I learned of the terms plantiograde#digitograde#and ungulagrade#So while regular animal art is wonderful#Furry art involves a certain creativity

oh ur tlt characters of colour post is very good. i do have some thoughts, especially as a maori woman who is still living in aotearoa. and rlly like if we didn’t have the nona art, i’d say that there’s so many mixed maori people. i know so many “white” maoris, that it’s who you are, not what you look like (insert the cup of tea metaphor). having said that, i wouldn’t be shocked if harrow being a necromancer is why she’s such a. grey colour. but really i merely wouldn’t take the covers at their art (see rf kuang’s recent ‘i didn’t have the courage to say no about my cover art’). the one thing i wish i could say to fan artists however is stop drawing harrow and gideon like they’re black. we have such different facial features to ppl of african descent. holy fuck. embrace round shapes and softness. embrace warm shaded skin tones and look at actual maori actors (this isn’t specific to you. just this has become me complaining now). i much prefer seeing darker g+h but the amount of like. the person who is drawing harrowhark has never seen anyone maori is unreal (yes, i know a maori and black person can exist, and they do— but statistically, unlikely, considering how heavily polynesian these books are).
however to stress again. not abt ur tlt art. i think it’s super cute. ur nona is adorable.
im gonna post this without much commentary bc youre more of an authority on this than me. i Will make the side comment that when i read tazs comment about harrow and gideon being mixed maori i specifically thought of harrow as maori and indian which is why i draw her and nona with darker skin. when people here mixed they just kind of default to half white and i think thats kinda dumb but its whatever. and obviously it doesnt matter if youre white passing youre still maori, but just going off the text it feels weird how like. tentative taz is about just Saying that they are brown
and yeah in general id say in a lot of fan spaces people will hear a character has dark skin and default to just drawing a black person, it happens with jeannemary, the second and g1deon/pyrrha a lot pertaining to these books but like. we look different! someone whos tongan or samoan doesnt look black! there are differences you can make more substantial in the way you draw their eyes and brows and the color of their lips and skintone.
and actually i got some of my nona art reposted on reddit and one of the comments launching this big argument was "why did op make her african" and it really bugged me. not all africans are black, not all dark skinned people are black, not all black people are darkskinned, you Only said that bc i made her dark brown its so stupid
but ultimately this is only advice someone will take to heart if they Want to learn so its like whatever

Okay, my voice designs are complete! I am about to ramble about them.
Some general comments before getting into each individual one; I'm terribly inexperienced at drawing creatures, so while I adore how some artists are making them different birds and I would've loved for them to have actual beaks, I care too much about quality to do that to myself. So I just gave them pointy noses. Don't question the ears. At first I was just going to make them all have different outfits that could be worn by any gender or shape of person, because anyone can play the game, but that got in the way of other ideas I had. So they all have different styles/proportions to make them stand out. At first they had different feather bits, but then I realized how much I liked the cannon Long Quiet's little head bits that look like cat ears, which are already super expressive. So I went with that.
Going in rainbow order, first we have Voice of the Paranoid!
I'm pretty sure his was the first of the group I designed, or at least, he's gone through the least revisions. I went full bug-eyed panic obviously. The eyes also make squinting in suspicion very obvious. While I like the designs that include the vital organs he keeps running, he serves a more general role in other routes. The outfit was the hardest to figure out, but I landed on the baseball tee because it was a bit more distinct, not too childish, but still very casual. Some symbolism I realized later is that you get to the Nightmare route by making choices that are uncomfortably in the middle, and that's reflected by Paranoid's shirt and pant sleeves stopping in the middle of the arm, right in the joint.
Voice of the Skeptic.
This one was the hardest for me. I don't know him too well, and he doesn't have a specific action or attitude to play into. I finally got an idea when I decided against using realistic proportions for a different voice, that Skeptic was perfect for realism, he's all about facts and reality. The glasses came pretty quick, and I decided on the beard because he needs something to stroke in contemplation. He almost had a pipe as well, but I decided against it. The outfit was difficult again, I looked up a lot of references to scholars and various sherlock interpretations, and finally decided on a dark academia style turtleneck and the long coat, which was everywhere in my searches. If you could see both of the little head thingies the other one would be sideways kind of like a quirk eyebrow.
Voice of the Contrarian.
While I adore the jester parallels so many others have made, I wanted to focus on the immature side of him. So he's a little brat with a backwards baseball cap because he's rebellious. I wanted to make sure to incorporate the sympathetic side that shows up later in Stranger.
Voice of the Opportunist.
He's honestly one of my favorite voices, and I think part of that is how he's good with people and social interaction, so I leaned into that side by going for a sleezy business man aesthetic. He also mentions that he likes to travel, so I gave him that excellent shirt. He's on the business casual side because you can't be serious all the time, you need to relate to the people. He doesn't know what the earpiece is for, it's just there.
Voice of the Hero.
Everyone's favorite boy! My main goal with the body type was friend shaped. Cause he's your bud. Went with the classic Link tunic because it's so incredibly hero coded, and the half cape to keep it fresh and friendly. I liked that another design gave him pauldrons to convey an upside down triangle shape, which represents intelligence and change, which I thought fit him very well. But fighting isn't really his thing, so I went with only one, putting the design off balance in a way I really liked. The head thingies came like first try, he's definitely swoopy and dynamic.
Voice of the Hunted.
This one sucked to design because as I said previously, I'm bad at animalistic designs and shapes. My first thought was an Australian Bear Grylls type survivalist with realistic proportions, but it wasn't quite working and I loved everyone else's feral creatures. So I tried. The hair thingies came to me at random, and I like that they look like deer antlers. By this point I had everyone else down and none of them had a top heavy face shape so I tried that for Hunted and I liked how it turned out. I learned in my failed creature designs that a wide neck was important, so I did that. I kept the shark tooth necklace for flare.
Voice of the Cheated.
I got very tall vibes from him for some reason. Maybe because it helps contrast his squinty eyes. For his outfit I went with a "someone who went broke at the casino" vibe. It felt right for everything to be mismatched, uneven, and messy. He's also the only one I gave a tired line.
Voice of the Stubborn.
Of course he had to be buff, also wide things are sturdy. The tank top was the best shirt to show off those muscles, and I feel like the basketball shorts were a necessity for this stereotype. Thick eyebrows because angry. His head thingies are tiny and adorable mostly because I found it a funny contrast. The blue was honestly a bit of an afterthought, I'd already given red to Paranoid, and the orangy colors felt too weird for him. I think the blue works though.
Voice of the Broken.
He's small. I had to go for a hoodie because it's gloomy and also to give cult vibes. The face needed to be big in order for those watery eyes to be prominent, and I felt keeping it in shadow was the easiest way to keep it simple. I had a lot of crazy ideas about unmatched puzzle pieces and wobbly towers that I'm incapable of executing, but I needed some sort of literal expression, so there's that big scar. The little line on the top is supposed to evoke a puppet whose string has been cut. I imagine that the others drag him around by it if they get frustrated.
Voice of the Cold.
It was a bit difficult to figure out his design until I realized that he's the type to do hard drugs if given the opportunity to. Then things clicked. And once I made the connection of black lipstick, everything came together. The head thingies are supposed to look like dreadlocks.
Voice of the Smitten.
I struggled so hard with this. I can not draw handsome people, but I can't have Smitty looking like a dork. The swoopy head thingies were easy enough, but most of the rest didn't look right, or was literally just Roman from Sanders sides. But I got in a chin, and decided to go for the heart body shape and I think it turned out well in the end. I was even able to keep the shirt sleeves and bowtie that I had discarded earlier for being too dorky.

What is your advice on handling criticism?
I saw your response to a critic on Lore Rekindled in the sub and it's very good and you could say, professional.
I have a big problem of people-pleasing, so if I get critcism (eventhough it's very polite), I get very sad at the fact there's fault with my work (I also suffer from perfectionism). It will drastically change how I see my work, and in the end I give it up 😭
fam i got teased tf out of for making it so wordy LOL
I totally get that struggle though, I know it probably doesn't seem it at times, but I do have the 'ole RSD (Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria) due to being ADHD/autistic, so I totally relate to the whole people pleasing thing. It's hard to feel like something you made isn't making everyone happy! But that's also ultimately not what it's for. You can't make everyone happy, and your art doesn't deserve to exist any less just because some people don't find it their cup of tea.
I've definitely had to like, disconnect my work from myself over the years to get better at taking criticism. Not to the point that I get apathetic, obviously I should be invested in whatever I'm working on, but enough that when people criticize my work, it's not necessarily an attack on my own self.
And if they are clearly just out to attack me, then I dismiss the criticism, it's of no value to me.
Unless it's something that's specifically a result of my own values or biases bleeding into the work, most of the time it's people literally just saying, "I like this work, but I feel like it wasn't as strong as it could have been here and here" and that has nothing to do with me as a person, I'm just still polishing my skills and those outside opinions help to target specifically what needs improving. I think we as artists pour a lot of ourselves into our work, especially when we're just starting out, so it can be hard not to take criticism as an attack or rejection of yourself, but we have to ultimately remember that we are not 100% of our work. Even with works like LO, while some of the criticism I give of it is indicative of Rachel's values and personal preferences as a person, a lot of it is also just about the work itself and how far it's fallen beyond what I assume Rachel intended from the beginning.
I've also learned to separate helpful from unhelpful criticism. I'll use Time Gate as an example because I've gotten way more input on that series than Rekindled (just because I've actually like, intentionally sought out criticism for it). A common criticism in the past was that there weren't enough backgrounds and the story's pacing wasn't concise. It sucked to hear at the time, especially the backgrounds one, because I'd heard that one time and time again... but it was literally because I wasn't doing anything to improve them. You know what stopped those criticisms? Drawing backgrounds more LOL And I still suck at backgrounds tbh but I feel like I've definitely improved compared to the first few volumes when I was just drawing characters on top of white constantly LOL
old and busted:
new hotness:
(i think there's like a 4-5 year difference between these two pages. and the backgrounds STILL aren't perfect in those newer volumes but they still feel more finished than the older panels did)
So that was helpful criticism! My art wasn't as strong as it could be in a few specific places that people were clearly able to pinpoint, so I did what I could to improve those places and I'm still working on it.
Unhelpful criticism has just been either personal attacks (not valuable) or statements that are basically asking the comic to not be what it is, criticizing things that are features, not bugs. Things like "well I think the story is too anime-like", "it's a lot to try and read", "why don't you draw eyelashes on the girl character", etc. which are criticisms of things that I know are intentional. The story's anime-like because that's the story I want to write. It's a lot to try and read because it's intended to be a longform series for people who like reading longform series (people like me!). I don't draw eyelashes on Uzuki because she would look terrible with them LMAO (we even made a joke about that later on):
(the hilarious part is that that comment was definitely made with the idea that all women should have that makeup look, meanwhile mitsuhiro's pulling off the look so much better and he knows it LMAO
And actually, the example you're referring to where I responded to crit in the ULO subreddit, is also an example of unhelpful criticism, though the person who posted it definitely didn't mean any harm by it, but the crit was literally "why aren't Persephone's boobs big enough" which I thought was pretty funny. She still has boobs! I just don't draw them popping out of her top like Rachel does LOL I also don't give her the exaggerated pinched waist or broken spine that Rachel often gives her because that's all just to, again, emphasize her boobs, and it's often unnecessary, especially in a comic that's being marketed as a feminist piece of work, yet is often drawn completely through the male gaze. So yeah, that was definitely crit that wasn't really beneficial because it was literally just about Persephone's cup size lol
I know it's easier said than done, but when you feel that sadness coming on in response to criticism, remember that that criticism exists to help you, not hinder you. Considering you've been getting polite criticism, that means the people giving it likely have your best interests in mind and want to see your work improve. The only way to do that is to learn how to critically analyze your own work, and the only way to do that is to surround yourself with works whose quality you want to achieve, and get outside opinions. And if that criticism isn't in good spirit, then toss it aside. If it's not going to help you, then it's not of any value to you. And yes, it will take practice, there are still times I find myself getting overwhelmed, but ultimately I can't control what anyone else says or does, only what I do. So I funnel that into my work and I always keep moving forward.
Be at peace with the process of learning and improving, because you never stop having to learn, there's always something new to improve, and that shouldn't be taken all doom and gloom "I'll never be perfect", that's literally just the process and beauty of being an artist, there's always something new to learn and that's something that should be exciting!
Think about whenever you give criticism or have personal critiques of other comics. I'm willing to bet most of the time, you have those opinions with good intentions, you're not trying to attack anyone. So why not give yourself the same grace?
...holy shit, I forgot Uzuki's lipstick in the bottom right panel- (;´д`)ゞ
#and i know i'm sounding hella hypocritical because i'm MEAN about LO lmaooo#but that's what y'all followed me here for sksksksk#i'm NOT entitled to her attention or acknowledgement#and also i genuinely don't expect or wish rachel to find my crits of LO here#i do think she needs to get better at taking criticism but at this point i'm just shitposting so that's not helpful to her LMAO#ama#ask me anything#anon ama#anon ask me anything

Bridgerton Rewatch S1E3 - Art of the Swoon
Hey y'all. Sorry for the delay on this one, grad school is taking over my life. Here we go!
This episode starts with Daphne’s dream sequence and I’m gonna take a second to give some love to the camera department. Beyond the cinematography (which is amazing and shouldn’t be devalued), getting those shots must have been a pain in the ass. POV shots are not easy to get, especially when they’re close-ups on a person’s face. Those close-up POVs of Simon and Daphne dancing must have taken some EFFORT and I salute the cam ops for getting it so smoothly.
We have made it to my biggest problem with this season. George Crane was on the front lines fighting in Spain. How did it not occur to ANYONE that he might be dead? Like, they immediately jumped to “actually he hates you and wants nothing to do with your child.” I’m sorry WHAT??? He’s at war and that’s the ONLY conclusion you jump to???? It bugs me a lot, in case you couldn’t tell.
Portia wants Marina to dress in the family colors. What are those colors? There is very little consistency in the Featheringtons’ wardrobes, which says a lot about their lack of cohesion as a family. But there’s pinks, greens, yellows, all kinds of colors that almost never match.
I love the parlor scenes at the Bridgerton house. They all have such good chemistry as a family. That’s a major strength of this season that the second season doesn’t have as much.
I remember watching this the first time and thinking Prince Friedrich looked vaguely familiar but I didn’t know why. Imagine how shocked I was when I realized that I was watching Adrian Chase be a Regency-era Prussian prince. Freddie Stroma is so talented, my god.
Couples that mock together, stay together. You can see that with the way Daphne and Simon are making fun of Cressida and Friedrich.
Jumping ahead a bit to the stove scene. It is so funny that titled members of society have no practical skills. This is a theme of how the class system works, even to this day. Not having basic life skills is basically a status symbol when you have a certain amount of money. They are out of touch, obviously, but Anthony and Daphne being fictional characters in a historical setting makes it easier to laugh at.
Madame Delacroix is not dumb. She definitely knows that Marina is pregnant. I think her acting in this scene with the knowing glances and everything kind of bolsters the idea that she could be Lady Whistledown. I know she isn’t but if I didn’t, I could see how she would be the main suspect further down the line.
So I’m one of those weirdos who likes knowing why shitty people are that way. I really hope we learn more about Cressida and her background in the next season. Like, beyond just entitlement, how does someone turn into…that?
We’re at the gallery now. I think it’s nice when the Bridgertons get to participate in things as a unit. Most of the plot happens during events that are exclusive to people who are out in society, which leaves Eloise (in this season), Gregory, and Hyacinth out. It’s great to see them interact with the larger world because they add so much texture to it. That being said, Gregory and Hyacinth showed up to that gallery to cause problems on PURPOSE!
I love it when Marina is bitchy to shitty old men. They deserve it.
I know that Benedict has very little regard for society but I love watching him participate in it. This is a bigger thing in the scene with him, Lady Danbury, and Henry Granville. Benedict has so much charisma but it doesn’t align with society’s rules and expectations. I can’t wait to see him take center stage.
I had a note to talk about the blocking in the scene where Daphne and Simon are alone in the gallery together but I don’t remember what my thoughts were on that. If I think of it, I’ll add it somewhere but lmk if y’all have thoughts.
Benedict getting frustrated with drawing hands is hilarious to me. I’m not an artist, I can’t draw for shit. However, from what I’ve heard from my friends who are artists, hands are notoriously difficult to draw. So Benedict beating himself up over drawing hands is the most realistic thing in this episode and it kills me.
The fight between Daphne and Eloise reveals a lot about Eloise’s main flaw. During the fight, Daphne has this line, “You never see things from my perspective,” and that’s true. Eloise never sees things from other people’s perspectives. She’s constantly on some crusade that doesn’t take into account how other people around her might be affected. I’m really looking forward to her chilling out a bit.
Simon laughing at how little mothers tell their daughters has a bit of a sinister tinge once he and Daphne get married. He exploits that, to a certain extent.
Phoebe Dynevor (I learned how to spell, wow) is such a trooper for staying in character during that sex education lesson. If Regé-Jean Page was explaining masturbation that close to my face, I’d waste the whole shoot day just cracking up.
Another queer-coded sibling smoke break. Them talking about Lady Whistledown is interesting. Eloise says that LWD has to hide her identity because she’s a woman. While this is true, it’s not the reason. Benedict responds by saying that if people knew who she was, she’d be strung up for what she said, which is the real reason. And Eloise does prove this right. I don’t know what other people think, but I’m of the opinion that, no matter when she found out, Eloise would react the same way to Penelope being LWD. The rage and hurt compounds over the two seasons, but I think it would have been there regardless.
This show really emphasizes the importance of fem pleasure, but I have so many thoughts about it that it needs to be a separate post.
Simon breaking it off with Daphne is some of the most textbook fear-of-commitment dialogue in the world. I have heard basically the same monologue from so many people in my actual life, it drives me crazy.
The entire cast is insanely talented but one thing stands out. The absolute best acting in this show is Jonathan Bailey acting straight. If you didn’t know that he’s gay, you’d never be able to guess.
So we’ve made it to the forged letter scene. I have 2 things to say about this one. First of all, Ruby Barker absolutely slays. I’ve watched this show so many times and I will always feel her pain. It’s so powerful. The other thing, Lady Featherington has a bit of a projection problem. She has such a miserable marriage that she can’t fathom that George might truly love Marina. Also, again, jumping straight to dismissal instead of being killed in action. I can’t believe I’m defending men right now but, especially in this universe, jumping straight to abandonment seems like projecting more than an actual conclusion.
I’m gonna condense my last few notes into one bullet because they’re all about the ball at the end of the episode. Daphne comes into the ballroom with a face card that never declines, everybody’s staring at her, classic. The way I interpret Friedrich’s behavior in this scene boils down to he was never actually interested in Cressida. I don’t know, something about this whole thing just makes me feel like Cressida was a pretty convenience. The other thing is Simon. Obviously, Simon gets crazy jealous and dips, but there’s something about the shot of the dance floor as he leaves that I never noticed. Penelope watches Simon leave. Not only that, Penelope is the ONLY ONE who watches him leave while everyone else watches the dancing. If that’s not a hint that she’s LWD, I don’t know what is.
Managed to get everything into one part this time. There might be a gap in posting again but I will do my best to get through the whole series before season 3 comes out.
Hope you're having a good day <3

I looked up Nesta Archeron on Instagram just because I hadn't seen anything of her there in a while, and I wanted to know what her haters' minds were like. There's only AI in this shit, how horrible. The artists of old don't make fanarts anymore, because obviously they're going to use it and they're not going to make any money from it. They would if they asked for commissions, but who's going to buy commissions when you have AI that does everything the same, right? Even the colors are identical.
Have you seen the videos they're making as if they were movies? Terrible, Feyre on the battlefield with her pretty hair and clean face. How can such crap be possible. These "artists" aren't even good enough to make the crappy robot draw a woman with an adult face. This is going to be shit. A lot of shit. All the faces childish with the bodies of teenagers...
Here in Brazil there was a case that had repercussions because they made a porn video of a girl with AI, it was only noticeable because at the time the videos weren't perfect and her face bugged a little. These AIs they're using are going to be a real treat for a bunch of bastards. And since they make young, unreal faces with big eyes like children's so easily (and always), I don't need to say how far this will go (it's already gone, it just hasn't had any repercussions).

Fic authors self-rec! ✨ When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you’ve written, then pass on to at least five other writers ❤️
Thanks for the tags @bad-surprise and @wyrd-syster
Mine are all from other fandoms, but just in case any Reylos still follow me or your sexual awakening was also Jareth the Goblin King 😂, I'll share my 5 favorite fics that I’ve written w/ all the old shit I made for them:
1. when the moon met the sun in the sky [reylo fantasy au | E | 71k | 20/20] — To date my proudest work, just because it was fun to try and attempt to evoke a Miyazaki-style fantasy world, and the world-building was so much fun.
"Who?" Rey asked.
She knew who. But she didn't know what else to say.
The man called Kylo Ren — Ben, her mind whispered — rolled his shoulders, a tick she'd seen before, a thousand times at least; an echo of a boy she used to know.
He seemed to notice. He took a tentative step toward her. When she flinched in response, he froze.
"Don't do that," he said, soft as a psalm. His dark eyes darted over every inch of her.
"Do what?" she asked.
"Lie."
2. Boon [reylogan heist au | E | 39k | 12/20] — This is such a niche fic in the first place because it’s a crossover between SW and Logan Lucky, but man, it was so fun and Rey/Clyde are so soft. I’d never attempted to write a heist and I obviously didn’t finish but I still have a fondness for this (permanently? IDK) on hiatus little fic.
“Your jar looks like it’s full of stars,” Sadie said, gaping at it.
“It does,” Clyde agreed. He raised his own. “Time to set them free?”
Sadie nodded, skipping into the night to release hers. As Rey turned to follow, Clyde snaked his good hand around her wrist.
“Follow me.”
He led her around the house, where the night felt denser, darker, somehow warmer. Underfoot, wild daisies swayed in the dying summer breeze.
“Here,” he murmured. She smiled at him, then twisted the top of her jar off. He followed suit. Together, they shook the little bugs free — to fly away, blinking little lights in the darkness; hazy yellow stars they might touch.
3. Crown Glass [reylo fantasy au | M | 4k | 1/1] — I love this one because it just sort of came into being; a prompt/gift one-shot that took on a mind of its own, but I got to play more with present tense and some high-fantasy elements bouncing around in my brain.
She shouldn’t be able to find it. But she does.
It stands tall, tucked away in the back of the cellar; she weaves through abandoned armor, crusted cauldrons, and shelves and shelves of spellbooks to reach it. It’s old, ancient even; she can feel that, even if she’d never set eyes on it, full-length and ringed in circles of crown glass that shimmer in the gloom.
She reaches out a hand, skimming the surface–
And then a world appears on the other side.
A room, awash in milky moonlight. A desk, buried by books. A bed…
And a man.
She draws her hand back, heart thumping as loud as the magic in her ears.
The world flickers and fades back into blackness.
4. This is the Sign You've Been Looking For [reylo modern au | E | 29k | 10/10] — My first real Reylo fic and what got me back into writing after years away, so I have to give it credit! Also my first ever AU, and Virgin artist Ben Solo and sign maker Rey were so sweet and sad but with a nice HEA.
"I'm sorry," Rey murmured, drawing close. She could only seem to look at her feet.
He pressed a large palm to her face, tilting her head up to look at him. The music filtering in from the living room was noticeably softer; vaguely, Rey recognized Elton's "Your Song" playing in the background and decided it was a good idea to rest her hands on Ben's hips.
He glanced down at her touch, swallowing hard.
"Don't be," he hummed.
5. Muse [Labyrinth canonverse fic | E | 82k | 20/20] — I have a lot of Feelings about this fic, but I have to include it even though a part of me wants to edit it into oblivion, haha. I feel like I’ve come so far as a writer since finishing this in my early twenties, but I’ll always appreciate this for how it helped me improve, for how it gave me an avenue to do more with fantasy world-building, and for the nice response it got in a small little fandom.
"Why did you give me the peach?"
He stared at her, his expression unfathomable.
"Are you going to answer me?" asked Sarah quietly.
"You know why I gave it to you," replied Jareth, "To make you forget."
"No," continued Sarah, "I know. That wasn't what I meant. Why did you give me the peach, knowing that I would never be able to leave after taking a bite?"

I would love to hear any and all edd and/or tom headcanons you have :3
I have a few headcanons for those two separately + their friendship/dynamic
Edd:
Edd is absolutely toxic and I love him for it, he's the physical embodiment of gaslight, gatekeep girlboss. he's such a smug little twat I would hug him til he pops(affectionate). he's a memer, loves quoting memes and probably has a tiktok tbh. he's like a theatre kid and a band kid in the body of an art major. he's a cat person, though he loves dogs too, he's afraid of spiders, bugs and rodents.
I also hc he has ADHD, he's medicated but forgets to take his medication places in case he needs it so is almost never on it. he drinks cola because it seems to help him be able to focus when he needs to and it tastes good. lots of his stims are vocal and are memes, but some others include ruffling his hair, hand flapping, foot tapping, jumping, and snapping his fingers.
he's pansexual and possibly polyam though he's more of dipping his toes in the water, not fully sure yet. it took him a while to figure out his sexuality, he went from thinking he was straight, to questioning being bi once Tord came out as such, to finding the term pansexual and feeling it fit him much better. he's got no gender preference though he loves muscle studs all around.
he has super messy curly hair, he never brushes it though he does wash it, in fact he feels uncomfortable with being dirty and washes every day, sometimes even twice or three times depending on the activities he does that day. he has two moles (that I almost never draw cuz I forgor), one on the side of his neck and one on the back of his thigh. he's insecure about both of them but pretends not to be. he is quite confident otherwise, thinking he's the best and putting himself on a pedestal while pretending he's "super down to earth". though one other thing he's insecure about is his weight, he's naturally chubby from genes from both sides of his family but was bullied for his weight for years. he's not super insecure because his ego is ginormous but he likes to imagine himself with a more muscular body(mostly cuz he thinks muscles are really hot). he likes to make fun of his friends(especially Matt) because it makes him feel better about himself. definitely the friend to force hug you when you tell them not to and do stuff like punch you really hard on the arm for no reason.
Tom:
Tom is non-binary, first of all, with they/he pronouns, they mostly use they/them but are cool with and some days exclusively use he/him. they don't necessarily hate being called masculine terms(man, boyfriend, gentleman, etc) but don't exactly love it either, they prefer androgenous terms(person, partner, etc). they're also demisexual, only being attracted to those they have a close relationship with, of any gender really with no preference. they make indie ska music with their own little covers drawn by him in marker. they don't look amazing because he's not exactly an artist but they like the style of them. I obviously headcanon Tom as black and usually I draw them with their canon hairstyle but recently I draw them with their natural hair more, they bleach and straighten it to give it his canon look but takes little breaks Inbetween to let his scalp breathe a bit. Tom is rather short for an adult, being 5"5, at least shorter than all their friends who are at least average height. everyone obviously makes fun of them for this.
Tom definitely goofs off more than the fandom believes, they're a total goofball, a silly goose, a funny lil fella, they just take a more negative and pessimistic approach to situations. they have major self doubt about pretty much everything and make it everyone else's problem. they probably enjoy a good walk around the London streets with their headphones in, taking in the sights and window shopping. Tom is a dog person but Ringo is his favourite animal, she's too cute to resist. they're afraid of taking things too far and being unloved, also geese because geese are horrifying.
their relationship:
Edd worries about Tom, Tom worries about Edd, though they'd never admit that to each other, they both know the other cares about them. Tom does show Edd more affection and open compassion, more than he ever would with Matt or Tord, than Edd does with him. it's not that Edd doesn't like Tom, he just feels sometimes that their drinking can get in the way of their friendship and make things a lot more stressful for Edd. though it could be said Edd takes advantage of Tom's kindness in their friendship, they both poke fun at each other and mess with each other a bit. a little prank from Tom to Edd, a stab in the arm as payback from Edd to Tom. totally fair and balanced (/s). Edd and Tom have been friends since they were incredibly young children, about 4 or 5, since their parents were friends, Edd knows pretty much everything about Tom and Tom knows pretty much everything about Edd. most of their fights aren't serious and usually end in laughter, though the ones that are more serious are usually dropped pretty quickly. they totally gang up on Matt all the time, especially after Tord left and it was just the three of them 😭 dude picked the wrong life to be ginger tbh but secretly they both acknowledge Matt's really hot lol they hate him so much for it. Tom probably also loves cuddling on Edd's stomach while they watch TV, they're very physically affectionate and almost act like a couple, even going to fancy restaurants together, though at least for the time being, they're just friends.

I have laid eyes upon Inordinately Bazoomified Doujin Yang. I will probably do so again soonish. And I'm still five miles past Done with that stupid-ass 90s comic-vintage rendition trick where you have acres of cleavage right up to the arbitrary nipple line on whomever's outfit, but apparently the character's either taping 'em down or a mannequin. Or possibly some type of overdesigned Atlesian sexbot assassin. But yes, the Ruby hips are even dumber in this context.
I'm actually not as heated by the bimbofied Yang shit as I am when people do it for Ruby despite my ferocious love for Yang because Yang's at least been presented as "the sexy one"/the fanservice character (seriously, it started in the Yellow Trailer. The first part of her we see is her legs, then her legs, then her legs, then her ass, then her hips swinging as she does her sexy walk as she enters the club, and then a couple shots that emphasize her rack) throughout the series. When the audience sees Yang, we're supposed to think "Damn, That's a Total Hottie", we're supposed to start making cartoon heart eyes irl, our hearts are supposed to start going ba-dump ba-dump ba-dump, we're supposed to start drooling like Scooby Doo when he sees a Scooby Snack, and it's a logical conclusion that when a character like that exists, people will draw them naked.
Porn of Ruby specifically bugs the hell out of me because at least the other 3 are a) legal by the standards of both Remnant and Texas (where I live and where Rooster Teeth is based) b) are 18 outright by the time of Volume 3 at the latest and c) are designed in ways intended to be sexy: Weiss has a titty window on at least 2 outfits, Blake wears tight pants and shows off her midriff in multiple outfits, and Yang always dresses to display cleavage and has that dumb thigh window as part of her Atlas outfit (I truly do not like the Atlas outfits at all, I really don't). All three of them are designed to be attractive/beautiful/sexy to varying degrees of each and receive romantic attention in-universe, whereas Ruby seems designed to be more innocent and cute in this specific sense (like I don't get the vibe that the audience is supposed to be attracted to Ruby the way they are for the other three), so it's honestly kinda strange that the porn artists fixate on her so heavily.
Idk, maybe I'm the weird one for seeing a character who was obviously designed to be attractive to men and becoming attracted to her instead of her underage sister
I have mixed feelings on the cleavage thing because on the one hand seeing outfits like that always makes me wonder how they stay on, but on the other hand I am a firm proponent of showing off lots of boobage and whatever else its faults, this strat works well for that specifically.
On that note, I still don't know how Blake goes to the bathroom in her Atlas outfit.

General Art Tips :)
I kinda went off on twitter about this but figured I’d put all my thoughts into one post, and on a site OFF twitter lmao. I know some people ain’t there anymore.
Anyways! Some thoughts from a long time artist, aimed at newer artists or anyone struggling with motivation. A lot of this has to do with brushes, which I don’t?? See touched on too much I guess????
Obviously this is aimed at digital artists. That’s all I know, I’m afraid!
I am most familiar with CSP but really, all of this is true for other programs too!
-Find a brush you vibe with. Find MANY brushes you vibe with!
When your brushes feel better, and by extension, drawing feels better, you’re more likely to do it.
I know it sounds a bit silly to say that brushes feel different from one another when they’re all controlled by the same pen on the same screen, but trust me.
Play with every brush in the program you’re using. Draw out some scribbles. Increase the brush size, scribble a bit, decrease the size, scribble some more. if it has blending properties, grab another color and scribble on that scribble and see how they blend. If you’re still liking it, doodle out a cat or a leaf or a little bug with a knife or.. you get it. You’ll get a feel for a brush as you use it, and you can tell if you like it. If you don’t like it? Move on to the next one!
This is true for every stage of drawing! You found a brush you like to sketch with? Great! Sketch something so you can play around with lining brushes! The worst that can happen is you get half way in and don’t like how the lines look or feel. You can delete the layer and start over with a brush you like better. You’re getting practice with lining!
As you’re just playing around with brushes, you’re ALSO practicing drawing. Cool, huh? :3
-Ask other artists for their brushes/brush settings.
This one is obviously on a case by case basis, and you should be respectful of what an artist has said beforehand, and their response after you ask. Some artists aren’t comfortable sharing for one reason or another, and those boundaries should be respected.
There are just as many of us that are more than happy to help, though! Some make their own brushes are are happy to share, or sell their brushes publicly already. Some of us (like myself) have bought our brushes off personal sites or sites like gumroad and would be happy to point you in that direction towards what we personally use and can recommend.
-Grab cheap, or even better, FREE brushes when they show up!
Occasionally, people will reblog/retweet brushes they’ve found on the clip asset store or have put up themselves on aforementioned sites. They’re usually only a few bucks at most, and very often free with the original creator leaving it open to what the person wants to pay. It’s a very risk free way to pick up brushes to play with! At worst, you don’t click with it and you can delete the brush.
You can obviously also go browsing through these resources yourself for brushes and brush packs that look interesting to you!
-Just because something is labeled a sketch/lining/painting brush, doesn’t mean you have to use it that way.
This one is a bit sneaky, so don’t tell anyone, but you can use any brush however it feels best to you. No one will get mad. No one will get mad at you if you use the same one brush for every single stage of a drawing, even.
If that hard edged lining brush feels great to sketch with? Do it! If the soft edge on your lines that that shading brush offers makes you happy? That’s what art is about.
-Have multiple brushes of any one kind.
This one is a very loose suggestion, and just one that works for me, so don’t worry about it too much, but I figured I’d include it anyways!
Sometimes, a brush just... Feels Off some days and nothing you draw comes out well. Sometimes, a solution is switching to another brush. That can be hard if you haven’t taken the time beforehand to find a couple extra brushes, and you’ll just... lose motivation to draw entirely, and that sucks.
I currently have three sketching brushes and swap between them freely depending on how I’m feeling, and how they feel to me!
*The exception to this is if you’re a commission artist, doing commissions. Your customers are expecting a quality and style from you, so do your best to give them what they’re paying for. If you can’t work with brushes you have before, talk to them! Most people won’t really notice much of a change and are there for your overall style anyways, but it’s most polite to be transparent that something will be different than assume it will be fine. It really is better to ask permission than forgiveness, turns out.
-Use the tools at your disposal!
This is referring to both in-program tools and art tools in general! CSP has a built in 3D model program that you can use to help with posing. It exists to help you. Stabilizers on brushes aren’t cheating, symmetry rulers aren’t cheating. If it exists in the program, use it.
Out of program? Use references. Use pictures of real people, of real animals, of real cities and plants and water and clothes and crystals and and and
If you don’t know how to draw it, look it up.
There are tutorials on how to paint digitally, and how to do 3D modeling.
You can teach yourself... just about anything. The tools are there, and they’re there to help you. Don’t be afraid to use them.
-Practice, and have fun!
I know this one is kinda hard sometimes, but art really is supposed to be fun.
Draw the things you love. Draw your ocs, and your favorite cartoon characters, and things for your friends. Watch them light up. Draw the things kid you never could. Draw things to make them happy. Draw things to make you happy.
If you’re unhappy with something in your style, it means: A) You’re good enough to see that something’s wrong, and B) You do have the ability to fix it. You have resources at your disposal to improve. You have time to improve. You just have to let yourself, you know?
Don’t give up on this. It’s so worth it, I promise.
#art#long post lmao#idk what to even tag this as#i just really care about art and want people to succeed you know
