Curious parallel really... Eddie's "Ain't that the truth." line. It took place way before Tommy's, and they picked a line they knew buddie shippers would recall because that's such an iconic buddie scene. Almost like they wanted us to remember that particular kitchen scene and return to it.
Eddie, were you perhaps discreetly making fun of your own indestructible closet when you made that wry comment about never having enough closet space...? Sounds like you were.

Strawberries and Cream presents: ✨A Day with Buck✨
Pairing: Buck x reader
Word count: 3.7
Masterlist
Notes: This is literally born from the fact that I think chapter 3 was going to be close to over 9k if I didn’t do some serious editing. I literally took the end of chapter 3 and made it the beginning of chapter 4 🤣🤣 p.s it’s me again this was all in vain it’s still that long
Buck is a cuddle monster.
He clings to you as you lay in bed, your arms crossed over your chest. He’d made you get in bed with him, said you guys used to share as kids anyway and that he’d stay to his own side.
Literally 10 minutes later he was curled into your back, and five minutes after that he had his arms wrapped tightly around you. This was so him, even as a child when you’d share a bed with him and Maddie you’d wake up to his legs over you and his head on Maddie’s stomach.
“Buck?” You poke at his arm, It’s around noon now. Eddie had dropped you off that morning with a kiss to your forehead and a promise that he’d text you when he woke up.
“Hm?” He groans softly, opening one eye. He looks up at you, giving you a sleepy grin “What’s up kiddo”
You roll your eyes at him, turning in his arms to shove him away
“Get your fat paws off of me, I have to pee” You whine, clawing your way out of his arms. He rolls over, letting you go and grabs his phone. You come back a few minutes later and he doesn’t look up
“Did you spray before you left?”
“I literally just peed!!”
“Pfft yeah okay sure. Miss Stinkypants”
When you were a child you’d accidentally soiled your literal diaper while you were in your car seat on a road trip and Buck never let you live it down. After 20 something years he still called you Miss Stinkypants even Maddie had done it a few times and both of them died laughing every time. Who needed siblings when you had these two
1:25 pm
Buck is sitting on the couch when you come back down from the bedroom, he’s playing animal crossing and cleaning up his island
“Charge your switch we can play together” He nods over to the charger in the wall and you grab yours from the coffee table, plugging it in. He proudly shows you around “BuckTopia” and all of his favorite villagers. Though he’s waiting to get rid of Hippeux, he hates him. He loves Bea and Fauna and he’s got a love hate relationship with Canberra. Eventually you show off your island, “Faeton” and he’s incredibly impressed.
“God it must have taken years to lay all of those paths” he gasps, staring at your pink walkways
“The initial lay down? God yes. But you know after that I just find 12 piece paths and overwrite the original 12 and it lays itself!”
You two spend the next 45 minutes running all over each other’s islands, beating each other with nets, and trying to hit the button at the same time so your little characters are dancing together.
“You know I’m glad they added this” Buck stretches his arms in the air, following along with the group stretching session
“It’s ridiculously cute” You agree, as you both bend forward and then push your chest out
2:10 pm
“I don’t think you’re ready for this. You’re so not ready for this” Buck bounces on the balls of his feet, and shakes out his arms.
You turn and kick his butt “I don’t think you’re ready for this!” You taunt him and he swings at you playfully, trying to smack you.
The game counts down and you and Buck start dancing in sync. You hadn’t played Just Dance in forever and apparently someone did like his life depended on it.
“I’m gonna kick your ass” He says in a singsong voice, Toxic by Britney Spears plays on the screen as the two of you dance along. He’s not even breaking a sweat
“You play this one a lot don’t you?” You ask him, panting a bit. He flashes you a shit eating grin and shakes his butt
“Oh I’m sorry, I have no idea what you mean” His voice is sweet and angelic as he’s hitting perfect nearly every time.
“With a taste of your lips, I'm on a ride
You're toxic, I'm slippin' under
With a taste of a poison paradise”
He turns to you with a whip of his head and you burst out laughing, singing with him.
“I'm addicted to you
Don't you know that you're toxic?”
2:45 pm
“So like… what is going on with you and Eddie?”
Buck holds his hand still for you as you paint his nails, his eyes covered with slices of cucumber complete with a hydrating face mask.
“I don’t know, if I’m being honest” You sigh and blow on his nails softly. Your hello kitty headband keeping the hair from your strawberry face mask
“I do really like him” you blush “But I’m not sure if I’m ready to take that step you know? Like what if he thinks I’m messy? I think? He likes me? But he doesn’t know about my past relationships and like what if that’s too much baggage?”
Buck rolls his eyes carefully under the cucumbers, dear god you two.
“Eddie has relationship baggage too Y/N. And you don’t like him any less do you? Even if you don’t know his?”
“I guess you’re right…” You say shyly, taking his other hand. “Same pattern or opposite”
“Opposite. And actually there’s something else we need to address”
“And that is? Sassy pants” you pull his hand closer and start painting
“You slept over and I haven’t heard any of those details yet”
“Okay promise you won’t tell him I told you?” He can practically feel your excitement, he takes one of his cucumbers off and bites into it
“Promise”
“He woke up hard” You blurt it out, dropping his hand.
Buck lurches forward, the other cucumber flying off his face “He what?!”
You squeal and nod your head fast “I- I was awake a bit sooner than I let him know and oh my god Buck. Oh. My. God. He’s-“ you look around like for some reason he’s gonna hear it “he’s huge” you whisper
Buck snickers, blowing on the nails on his other hand “Yeah I know we had a whole drunken measuring contest it was the funniest thing in the entire world. Are you telling me you felt it?”
Your cheeks flush even more and you nod your head slowly “Yeah…but that’s not even the whole of it because we started having a pillow fight and-“ you stop for a second, and Buck gestures wildly
“And?!?!”
“Okay but this part is embarrassing to tell you!”
“You once had to hold my hand while I got an anal exam because I was pushing too hard when we were younger. I don’t think anything is as embarrassing as that.”
You laugh hard, your body shaking as you wheeze and fall into the couch, remembering when you were teenagers. He was mortified the entire time because the nurse was cute as hell. Of course they had to be cute.
“Okay!” You wipe your eyes carefully and giggle a bit before taking a deep breath “Okay. Okay. We had a pillow fight and I ended up on top of him and I kind of just… did something? Like it was just supposed to be a joke I swear!!”
“What did you do!”
“I kind of sorta ended up grinding on him”
Buck’s mouth drops wide open and he just stares at you. You groan loudly in embarrassment and fall back on the couch
“What did he do”
You cover your face with your hands and Buck starts beating on your leg
“What did he do?!?!” He yells and you kick at him, fighting back
“He moaned! Okay god he moaned!”
Buck squeals, which is impressive to say the least and you roll off the couch in embarrassment
3:45 pm
“He moaned, can you believe that?!”
You, Buck and Maddie are on the couch eating lunch. She came over to drop off some stuff for him and brought lunch for the three of you. Buck spent the last 20 minutes retelling all the details you’d told him, and Maddie is listening with wide eyes.
“And you two didn’t do anything else?” She asks, stabbing at her chicken
“How many times do I have to tell you guys! No! We ate breakfast and that was it!” You stab at your own, glaring at the two of them and they’re both giggling at you
“You guys are literally so cute I could die” Buck sighs “I can’t wait to be related to Eddie it’s gonna be so fun”
Maddie laughs at him “Oh my god, you’re gonna scare her!”
“Related?! That’s not too fast?! I don’t even know his middle name!”
“He doesn’t have one. I’m thinking maybe a spring wedding? Or fall. You hate the heat which is hilarious considering he’s a Texas boy”
“Imagine Eddie with a cowboy hat” Maddie says
Buck perks up in his seat “With his shirt off? I’ve got a picture of that actually”
You all crowd around his phone as he goes through his “Eddie” folder. He’s got a lot of pictures of him. “Have you ever seen him shirtless? You need to see him shirtless”
“I literally slept with him shirtless” you mumble and Buck’s hand freezes. You slap your hand over your mouth and he and Maddie immediately pounce, screaming
“You! Left! That! Shit! Out!” Buck yells at you and Maddie points an accusatory finger
“What were you wearing?!!”
4:45 pm
Buck drags you to Target. Okay so it’s not really dragging when Target is literally the best place on earth and you’re eager to go with, he had to pick up some stuff for dinner. After dramatically singing all the way there you stop at the Starbucks first. You’re looking up at the menu from afar when someone covers your eyes
“Guess who”
He says in a weird high pitched voice
“My 7th grade math teacher?” You giggle and Buck snorts
“Wasn’t he a dude?”
“That’s a horrible guess, why would you guess that” Eddie snickers as he pulls you into his chest and hugs you. Your cheeks flush and Buck watches the two of you, all giddy and trying to hide it
“Can you quick stalking us” Buck pulls him away from you and you turn around, looking up at him. He looks relaxed in a white tank top with a flannel on and jeans. God it’s a good look on him too, those quarter length sleeves are to die for.
“We literally have each other on life 360? It’s impossible not to stalk you. Not that I actually was. Just needed a few things”
“Do you have Y/N?”
Buck takes Eddie’s phone from his back pocket
“No? Are you- you’re gonna- yeah okay sure”
Eddie rolls his eyes as Buck turns his back to them to add you
“Anyway… how are you? Having a nice day?” His hands rest on your shoulders before pulling you into his chest again for a hug
“Miss you, pretty girl” he says quietly, running a hand over your back.
Your cheeks flush as you bury your head in his chest “Miss you too…and yeah we’re having fun! Just like old times” you smile up at him, your chin on his chest.
He strokes your hair, just…looking at you. It makes you nervous inside, a good kind of nervous.
“You know what you want? I’ll get it for you”
“Oh no- no that’s okay” You say quickly “I got it”
“Actually I’ve got it” Buck hands Eddie back his phone and pulls you into his arms protectively
“No Eddie’s allowed, we talked about this” He scolds him and Eddie rolls his eyes, putting his hands up
“I know, I know I’ll back off. I’ll see you later cutie… and Y/N” He makes a little face at Buck, and you snort before waving at him
“See you later”
“See you later” Buck mocks you in a high pitched voice as you order your drinks. You punch him in the side and he laughs, dragging you over to go wait at the end
“So what are we having tonight?” You ask as you awkwardly and a bit embarrassingly climb into the cart. Buck holds it down for you as you get comfy
“Just spaghetti and meatballs, I know you miss my recipe”
You sigh dreamily when he hands you your drink and pushes the cart “Oh god you’re right”
“Exactly”
He walks around the store, pushing you along and throwing ingredients at you instead of into the cart and snickering as he does it.
“Would you stop that!” You yell as you catch the Parmesan before it smacks you in the face
“Do you know how long it’s been since I was able to torture you? Honey I have years to catch up on!”
“Okay well you know what, don't go crying to Maddie like you always did when I get you back. And I will get you back Evan”
“I’d like to see you try”
Payback comes in the form of giving Buck a wedgie in the parking lot.
Maddie calls you 15 minutes later.
5:25 pm
“You think Eddie will like his tamagotchi?”
You’re sitting in the front seat of Buck’s jeep as he drives over to Eddie’s house. You’d found the cute little toys and bought the newest ones. Yes they cost a pretty penny but Buck chipped in and you guys bought three. One for each of you
“I think he’ll like it because it’s from us” He chuckles, pulling into Eddie’s driveway. He stops the car, leaving it running.
“Remember, in and out. We still have to make dinner”
“Aye aye Captain” you salute him as you jump out. Before you even raise your hand to knock, the front door is opened. Eddie leans against the frame, crossing his ankles.
“I didn’t… even-“ it’s embarrassing the way you gape at his chest. He’s shirtless now, sweatpants hanging low on his hips.
He holds his phone up, shaking it “Buck texted. Whatcha doin here sugar cube? Miss me that much?” He slips his phone back in his pocket, crossing his arms over his broad chest and you know you’re drooling and you also know, in your heart Buck absolutely set this up.
“I uh…I-“
Eddie snickers and steps away for a second, coming back with a hoodie on.
“Use your words, Princess. Focus now”
Oh god he’s such a little shit
“Oh neither of you deserve shit!” You say, shoving the gift bag in his hands and practically running back to the jeep. Buck is laughing his ass off as he drives away with you punching him in the side
5:55 pm
Triple C: Sent 1 Attachment
I've named it Apollo
6:03 pm
You giggle as you stare at the picture on your phone, you never actually expected him to play with it, which is stupid considering you bought it for him. Buck is making you babysit his while he makes dinner. You’re both tempted to buy one for Chim.
6:45 pm
“Have you considered moving in with me?” Buck asks as he serves you both a plate of spaghetti you frown a little and set the tamagotchi down on the table
“Yes. If I’m being honest. It seems… a bit more ideal than sharing a house with a married couple and a baby… but you don’t really have the space for me here and before you say it- there’s no way in hell I’m making you sleep on the couch! This is your house Buck”
“First of all,” he puts Parmesan on your spaghetti and pushes the plate towards you “I honestly wouldn’t mind the couch if it meant you staying here. Please Y/N that is an option and I’m willing to make that sacrifice for you… maybe we can share the bed! We’ve had to before, we know we can. Second of all, please don’t shut me down right away. But have you given any thought as to staying with Eddie? Like have you actually? Because that’s a really good option. What if you went between our places? You know… part time there, part time here. You’re not a burden Y/N. Not in any way, shape or form.”
“I feel like one, sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t have come here” You tell him, playing with your spaghetti, twirling it on your fork. “In all honesty Evan?… I want to move in with Eddie. He’s the best option, I know that. But it seems so serious making that move and I’m very nervous about what it could do to whatever the hell our friendship is. I don’t… have many friends Buck, you know that... I never have. I don’t want to lose him because we can’t stand living together”
“I really don’t think that’s going to happen. He’s really serious about you taking his spare room Y/N. It’s just collecting dust at this point. Hell, what if I moved in with him instead! And you took this place? I sleep on his couch more often than I do here” he says, chuckling a little as he digs in to his spaghetti
You’re a bit stunned to say the least. You love the studio. But kicking Buck from his own place is too much, and you know your cousin would do it for you in a heartbeat. It’s been a long time since anyone has done anything for you out of love.
“You know I love you and Maddie right?” You say a little teary eyed and he coos softly at you, coming around the table and hugging you
“Oh come onnn…don’t cry” He says softly, smiling “You’re gonna make me cry! Just think over your options and let us know what you decide okay?”
8:19 pm
You’re sat on the couch, your legs in Buck’s lap. He’s carefully painting your toenails to match your fingernails.
“Okay explain to me again why Simon is pretending like he can’t get Daphne pregnant?”
He asks as he blows softly. You tilt your head to him carefully, trying not to muss up the pink clay mud mask you’ve got on.
“Because he doesn’t want kids cause of his shitty dad and since Daphne hasn’t had sex or even been taught about it she doesn’t realize homie is just pulling out”
Buck nods slowly, turning back to the screen. Your phone rings and you grab it awkwardly, putting it on speaker
“Hi Eddie, you’re on speaker” you say, your words a little garbled with the inability to move your face as much
“Hey Sugar cube, hey Buck”
“Eddie this better be good I swear to god” Buck threatens him as he pauses the show. You giggle a little and you can hear Eddie scoff.
“I was actually calling for you, asshole. You didn’t answer your phone”
“I’m busy”
“Doing what?”
“Painting Y/Ns nails. This requires precision, asshole. What did you want?”
You giggle at them as you hold your phone out for Buck and he makes a little face at you
“You’ve never painted my nails” He says, sounding hurt
“You’ve never asked” Buck sasses him back
“Fine Buck, will you paint my nails”
“If you come here literally right now? Yes.”
“Bro, bet”
“Wait I’m not-“ before you can say anything Eddie hangs up. You sigh and set your phone down, crossing your arms over your chest
“I thought you wanted today to be just us” you say, your eyes narrowed. “And i'm not dressed! I don’t even have a bra on!”
“Okay, first of all, it’s my house, my rules, you wear whatever you want. Second of all…Does it bother you? Cause we can call him back. I just…. He’s my best friend and I miss him”
You lay back on the couch, laughing “Can’t go one day without your bestie huh?”
“They call us Buddie for a reason”
You decide to put one on just in case
8:54 pm
Eddie doesn’t just come over, he brings snacks. He opens the door, letting himself in, because of course he has a key
“Honey I’m home”
He shucks off his shoes and tosses his coat down. He sets the bags on the coffee table and starts taking things out, chips and pretzels, some candy and a couple different ice creams he puts in the freezer.
You move your legs from Bucks lap and Eddie sits in the middle of you two
“Bestie” He nods at Buck
“Sugar cube” he winks at you
Buck holds up four different face masks and he picks the refreshing pomegranate mask and you put a matching headband in his hair. Buck paints the mask on and the three of you curl up on the couch together, he wiggles his fingers at Buck who smirks and takes his hand, starting on his cuticles
“You wanna pick the color?” He asks, leaning his head on your shoulder. You smile at him when he hands you the box of nail polish and you start to rummage through it. You grab two colors, one that matches Buck and one that matches yours and hand them to Buck
10:32 pm
Eddie holds both you and Buck as you cry into his chest over Anthony’s dad. He tears up a little too
11:42 pm
“Why can’t I just be the judge?” You groan softly as Buck puts the joycon around your wrist
“Because we dance together as a family”
Both boys school you in just dance and they laugh about it and make fun of you when you throw popcorn at them.
Watching Eddie dance to “Treasure” by Bruno Mars is fun and it’s even better when he sings it to you. You’re halfway convinced Buck is picking all the dances he’s good at just to impress you because he doesn’t miss a beat

Buck goes to the bathroom, and you dance to “Havana” with Eddie, he doesn’t have to stare into your eyes the way he does, but he couldn’t look away even if he wanted to.
Buck watches quietly, leaning against the wall. The song ends and Eddie pulls you up his body, still staring into your eyes, his hands holding your waist firmly. Your heart is beating out of your chest and not just from the dance
“Man, I told you learning this dance was gonna come in handy one day!” Buck fist pumps the air and you groan loudly, crashing against Eddie’s chest
1:30 am
Buck clings to you and you cling to Eddie as the three of you pass out in Bucks bed
Thank you random person in the photo 🤣🤣

For the large part, adjusting to living with Eddie again and taking care of Jane is pretty seamless. Apart from the usual parts of having a newborn that are not seamless at all. But there’s no avoiding that. Only easing it. Which they are, effectively. By operating as a team.
But that doesn’t mean everything is perfect.
Which, okay. Shannon knows that the problem is a problem she’s creating in her head. Call it a metric tonne of postpartum hormones mixed with a sprinkle of rational grievances. But Shannon can’t help but find herself irked. Annoyed. A splash of resentment on top of her overall relief.
The thing is, Eddie is obsessed with the baby. Not in a bad way. He’s just so attentive and so in love with her. He does more than most new dads for her, especially in those first few weeks of parental leave he gets off work. He’s just competent and delighted and present. All the time. And, you know, that’s fantastic. That’s what she wanted, right? She wanted - needed - it to be different from last time. And it is.
So why does it piss her off some days?
It takes her until nearly Christmas to figure it out. Beyond suspecting there is just a fair deal of hormones at play, that is. They’re putting up a Christmas tree - one that Eddie went to get for the house, despite how busy and hectic things have been lately. Chris is pretty much directing the whole decorating process, working Eddie like a member of staff. Shannon is holding Jane, watching from the couch. And it hits her.
This is what she wanted last time.
When they’d agreed to get married - sort of under duress, but nonetheless - when they’d talked about raising a child together, this is what she wanted. There had been this naive period, right before Eddie told her he enlisted, where had imagined all of this. Family holidays. Happy memories. A sense of togetherness and belonging. Something they made for themselves. She thought every Christmas would be this way, until the rug was swept out from under her feet.
Now it’s here, and it’s not too late for a lot of what she thought she wanted. Happy children, in a home with two parents. That’s happening right now. Their kids are well supported. Healthy. Loved. She and Eddie are a family. That’s not going to change. But this all feels like looking at something she wanted up close, but never really got to have.
Thinking about it, sitting in the fantasy, Shannon finds herself getting pretty worked up. Eventually, she finds she can’t stand to be in the room anymore. She stands abruptly, still cradling Jane in her arms. Eddie and Chris turn to look at her, matching concern in their eyes. Her upset must be plain on her face.
“I’m going to go put her to bed,” Shannon announces.
“Uh, okay,” Eddie says.
“But then Jane will miss out on the tree,” Christopher complains.
He’s sweet. He loves her so much already. Is already a protective older brother. Shannon doesn’t want to crush him and say that the tree doesn’t matter to Jane. She’s too young. She can hardly comprehend it, let alone see it at a distance.

There’s a moment of uneventful silence as Buck’s fingers dip into the water. Nothing seems to happen. Eddie is just about to think that this was all a waste of time and keeping Buck awake when he needs to sleep, when Buck gasps. His eyes roll back a bit and he starts to wriggle a little.
Eddie goes to pull the pickle jar away, but Buck stops him.
“Wait, wait, wait,” he pleads.
“Is it hurting you?” Eddie asks, trying to keep his voice down but definitely sounding frantic.
“In a good way,” Buck grits out.
A good way? Like a… Like bones resetting themselves? Is that too lofty of a hope?
After another minute of struggling, Buck finally exhales and removes his hand from the water.
“Are you okay?” Eddie asks.
“I think so,” Buck pants. He seems completely free of the pain medication. Like the water sobered him, too. “It… It feels different.”
“Different how?” Eddie asks.
“Stronger,” Buck says. “But… But I’m still in this big cast, so…”
“So you can’t tell,” Eddie fills in.
Buck nods. “Yeah. Exactly.”
“But your leg might be healed?” Eddie asks.
“Maybe,” Buck nods. “Fuck. Thank you, Eddie. Thank you so much.”
🌊
His leg is healed.
X-Rays confirm it a few days later, during what is supposed to be a routine checkup to make sure it’s healing on pace with their expectations.Buck has suspected as much. The only pain he’s been feeling lately is the stiffness of his cast. Being kept immobile. That sucked. But the actual leg? The site of the break? Absolutely fine.
Nobody knows what to think. That terrifies Buck. They want to run blood tests and take more imaging. Which shouldn’t be an issue, right? None of the tests he’s had up until this point have revealed anything.
“I want to leave,” Buck says.
“That’s not advised, Mr. Buckley,” the doctor says. “We’d like to find out why you were able to recover from such an advanced injury so quickly.”
“I think you guys just did a good job,” Buck praises emptily. He doesn’t need to know why. Unfortunately, the doctors will have to forever be curious.
“That’s not… That’s simply not possible,” the doctor protests.
“Listen, am I unsafe if I leave?” Buck asks, feeling like an ass.

Buck glances over his shoulder at Róisín, who looks faintly amused. He laughs, nervously. “Nice to meet ya properly, Buck. You hungry?” Buck tries to make his smile appear more certain. “Absolutely. Anything I can help with?” Cormac scrutinizes him, face screwed up in consideration. “You cook?” “He makes the best pasta!” Fia pipes up. “And cakes, too!” “Is that so? Did you bring any of them with you?” Buck stammers. “Um, well, I didn’t—Ró said…” “My niece told you family doesn’t bring presents for the host?” He grunts. “Well, sure, I suppose not. Still, always love a good cake, if you ever have any going spare. Mind giving me a hand setting the table?” Fia grabs Buck’s hand and drags him through to the dining table. She directs him on which cabinet to pull each item from and then where to set each of their spots.
15 for 8x08! 🏡
He loses himself in the process, not that there’s much to it. He wonders whether he’d be able to pull off a pie crust from scratch—maybe that’s something he can work on next, once he’s perfected his scones. He puts on some music as he whips it up, forgetting everything else for just a few minutes. He puts the pie in the oven, cleans up the mess he made, and then looks in the fridge to see whether there’s any extra cream in there. His face falls when he sees the almost empty fridge shelves. There’s nothing in there but an almost-empty carton of milk and a couple of eggs. He’d forgotten, for a moment. While he’d been baking, he’d almost been able to trick himself into thinking that Eddie had just stepped out for a few minutes—that he’d gone to pick Chris up from some club, or a friend’s house, and when they came back, they’d all eat the pie together. He sits down at the kitchen table, staring into the oven where the pie is still baking. Eddie’s not coming home. Not tonight, not tomorrow, not even next week. Buck tries to remember the longest time he’d gone without seeing Eddie or Chris since first meeting them. They’d visited Texas a few times, but never more than a week at a time. The oven timer beeps. He looks around him at the silent house, empty apart from him and the ghosts of his best friend and the kid he’d raised here.
30!! for secret relationship 🤫
He decides to make the most of Bobby forcing him into dish duty with Eddie. “You like this new guy?” he asks. “I told you already, I don’t know him. Buck seems happy though, right?” “Sure, but he seemed happy with Tommy, too.” “This guy won’t do that,” Eddie snaps. “He’d never push Buck away.” Chim narrows his eyes. “I thought you didn’t know him?” Eddie huffs. “I haven’t met him, but I know him.” “What?” Chim squints, trying to make sense of that. “Is it some sort of online thing? Long distance?” Eddie shrugs, non-committal. He dries his hands and walks away. “See ya, Chim!” Chimney frowns. There’s something going on here, he’s sure of it. “Hey, Buck! How are you this fine afternoon,” Chimney sits next to Buck when Eddie leaves him alone for five seconds, probably just to go pee. “I’m not telling you about my boyfriend, Chimney.” “So he’s a boyfriend, then?” “He’s—Chim, c’mon.” “Just give me anything, man, please? I’m losing my mind here, how come even Maddie doesn’t know?”
15 more of bodyguard 😎
Buck knows he’s right, but the idea of broaching the subject with Eddie, when he’s so proud of himself for being back in shape and able to work again… He’s saved from having to answer by the alarm ringing overhead. Saved by the bell. The call is nothing major—an escape room employee had taken the title a little too literally, and actually locked the patrons inside. Buck takes bolt cutters to the lock and opens the door, letting the crowd of panicked and scared patrons out. “We heard there was an injury, is that right?” One guy steps forward, holding his shoulder. “He tried to ram the door open after the time ran out and we still couldn’t open it,” The man with him says. He gives a double take towards Buck as Buck directs the injured man towards Hen. “Are you…?” Buck sighs. “Let’s get your friend looked after, okay?” “You are, aren’t you? You were paired up with Taylor on Love Island! Buck, right?” Buck looks around for a rescue, but it’s only him and Hen here on this call, and the injured person has found his way to her without his friend. “Yeah, that’s me,” Buck concedes.
aaaand 18 of guilty as sin! 🤯🤯
“He got his times confused. I told him when I was finished, but he must have misheard, or…” Or not been listening, a less-than-charitable part of Eddie’s mind suggests. “Or something. I asked if he’d mind waiting outside, since I still had work to do—I even offered to meet him somewhere else when I was done, but… He started acting weird.” “Weird how?” Buck shakes his head. “He just… said some things—suggested something I hadn’t… I hadn’t let myself consider. I tried to deny it, but I… I couldn’t. I couldn’t tell him he was wrong.” Eddie wants to ask. He wants to know, but he doesn’t think he could bear it if he’s wrong—if Buck’s talking about something completely different. “What… What did he say?” Buck bites his lip. “Do you remember… after Chim’s bachelor party?” Eddie’s breath catches. It’s all he can do to nod. He remembers—vividly. “Did you… did you mean it? The things you said?” Buck averts his eyes, like he’s afraid of how Eddie’s going to respond. And Eddie can’t have that—he can’t have Buck doubting even for a second that he meant that. “I meant every word, Buck.” Even the ones he hadn’t been able to bring himself to say.“Tommy suggested… he thought that you and I had… done something. Done what you thought we’d done. And when I told him we hadn’t, he asked whether I’d thought about it. About you.”
phew! This took a while, I hope you enjoy!

In Buck's defense, it wasn't his idea to buy panties, but Chim's. Years and years ago, during Buck's probie year. They were drunk and Chim dared him to do it. Buck did. Then came home, put them between boxers he didn't wear much and forgot about them. He couldn't throw them away because they're expensive and pretty panties. And that's how these panties lived the last six years. They were moved in that exact stack of clothes, which Buck didn't want to sort when he moved to the loft. He just put it on the top shelf and forgot about it.Right till that moment.
He is alone in the loft, sorting his things between boxes to decide what he will move to the Diaz house. And what he will throw away or donate, because it's finally time to get rid of the clothes he would never wear again.
That's how he found these lace black panties. And if the boxers should go to trash because his size is bigger now, the panties on other hand look like they can fit him.
Buck in his life tried a lot of things, even crazier than wearing some panties. Just last night Eddie tied him up to their bed and made sure that it is hard for Buck to move today, especially bend, without remembering how good his fiance railed him. Trying some panties shouldn't feel so exciting and thrilling, and a little bit forbidden, like something he shouldn't desire. Except that Buck feels all this mix of different emotions like that and he wants to sense the lace around him.
He slips out of his sweatpants and boxers, but leaves the shirt. It is like a shield from feeling like he does something wrong. The lace fits him like a second skin, highlighting his cock and how pale he is. But that makes Buck feel good about them, it's how he looks like something precious and cute. Not like a 6 '2 guy, but like something that needs to be handled very gently, like a porcelain vase that is so easy to break with a careless movement. Buck feels good. He feels pretty.
Admiring himself from different angles in the big mirror, still not daring to leave himself only in black lace, he doesn't hear how he is not alone anymore.
“So, this is what you do when I’m not around?” Eddie's voice scares Buck and he rushes to cover himself, tugging on his shirt hard.
“I saw you naked, mi amor. No need to cover this ass or cock from me,” Eddie licks his lips not taking his eyes from his bottom. Even if Buck tries hard to hide himself, he still knows Eddie can see quite enough. “Especially when they are wrapped in such a beautiful package. Like a beautiful present.”
Buck doesn’t know what to say. He opens and closes his mouth for seconds till his eyes catch the lines of Eddie’s cock in his sweatpants. Catching the way where Buck looks, Eddie puts his hand pulling on his pants so that the line of his half hard cock is seen better.
“Is this … turning you on?”
His fiance comes close, putting his big warm hands on his t-shirt, lifting it up till he can take it off from his body, stopping to ask Buck with his big caring eyes if it is OK, not moving till he sees the nod. Eddie leaves him almost naked in his almost empty loft.
“How can it not? My future husband looks like a fucking model, meeting me in these cute lace,” big hands holds him by the waist, bringing Buck close to his body. Their cocks touch and they both moan. “You look so beautiful Buck,” Eddie murmurs and kisses his neck. “Do you like the way you look? Or should I leave to let you put your clothes on?” warm chocolate meets his sky and Buck one more time falls even more in love with this perfect caring man.
“I think I look pretty. I-I feel good. Really good,” Buck whispers, still feeling guilty to admit how he loves it, even if he knows Eddie loves it too.
“Do you want me to make it better?” Eddie traces his long soft fingers over the lace till he touches his hard cock, smirking when he feels a wet spot.
“Yes, please,” Buck gasps as Eddie speeds up his movements, passing the lace over his tender skin. “But we-we moved the bed already,” despite his words Buck just let Eddie leave more hickeys on his skin.
“You still have a kitchen counter. I haven't bent you near it for months,” Eddie kisses him, biting his lip. “What do you think, cowboy?”
Buck smirks remembering why Eddie calls him cowboy. Sue him for telling his “just best friend” he always liked to ride a man anytime he had a chance. He wanted to drive Eddie crazy with this idea. He succeeded even if they still had a crooked path after Buck's confession. Eddie their first time admitted that he called him cowboy several times to hint he wants Buck to ride him.
He licks his lips, acting like he thinks about it, taking the clothes from the body he needs to see naked. The way Eddie looks at him when he kneels to take his sweats off intoxicates him as well as the musky scent.
Touching beautiful abs, Buck kisses his man again before breathing into his lips.
“Yeah, not a bad idea, but what about me riding you on the balcony? These panties allowed it,” Buck puts Eddie’s hand on his bare ass. “And I found my cowboy hat,” Buck nods towards the hat. “Should I wear it or -”
Buck’s question is interrupted by Eddie’s lips and the body pining him to the wall. Grinding their cocks, they kiss till Buck is ready to hit Eddie’s hip to have a chance to breathe, but Eddie ends the kiss right at that moment, leaving Buck alone near the wall. He takes the hat and comes back, putting the hat on Buck’s head.
“ Are you ready for the ride, cowboy?”

Emotions are running high right now. We are all horribly hurt. And every single person is entitled to those emotions. But I have some thoughts about Oliver not many people right in this moment might agree with. I still want to share it and maybe some people might be able to take in a different perspective in a couple of days or a couple of weeks when the pain is less present.
I think what Oliver really has been saying in his interviews without being able to outright say it is that he doesn't want any kind of romantic relationship for Buck at all anymore. But he still wants to remind the GA regularly that this character is bisexual, and they'll only remember that if he is shown casually dating men and women.
There are two reasons that led me to this thought.
First, Oliver said earlier this year he was tired of Buck going from one relationship to another. He alluded several times that he hoped this might be a permanent relationship. (Comparing it to Tarlos? What else is that?) I think he also mentioned that he is tired/bored of playing Buck going from one relationship to another. And up until these latest interviews he has always been very careful and supportive in his words. Have you all already forgotten how he shut down that narrative in the live interview this week about having to change his roles for Buck? Despite celebrating him for it?
Second, Oliver has seen and experienced by himself how everyone playing a LI for Buck or Eddie is treated. It reached a new and horrible low with Lou. (What are the chances those horrible CSA fics didn't reach the crew?) I think everyone on set is aware that with the next actor, it might become even worse, and we know they're all hit by it. We've seen Oliver being fed up by it lately. (Him calling out that fanart blog the other week?) I can understand that Oliver doesn't want that anymore, either for himself and the other mains on the cast or for new actors coming in.
Was his choice of words maybe a little ill-considered? Yeah.
But I don't even trust the reporters not to deliberately twist his words or leave out things he said. (Because they're all following the Buddie narrative. We know that.) And I think all the actors, including Oliver and Lou, are restricted in what they can say by their contracts. We have also seen Oliver getting increasingly frustrated, and we've seen both Oliver and Lou retreat in different ways from the public over the past months.
Oliver is only human and not perfect and we knew that before this week. There have been people in this fandom reminding us of that fact every so often, reminding us not to put him on a pedestal. So I find it really hypocritical for some people to now turn around and take the most bad-faith interpretation of his words as gospel. But I guess, in the end, all of fandom is the same and there really isn't much difference between different groups.
And I'm not saying I can't understand why other queer, especially bisexual, people are hurt by those words. What I don't understand is that one badly worded idea* suddenly negates all the careful support Oliver has shown, up until the live interview earlier this week I mentioned above. What I don't understand is that suddenly Oliver gets messages starting with "I know you're just a straight guy" when we have no idea at all if that's true. (Are we really going to the place of "you have to out yourself for your support or opinion to be valid"? Does it always have to be the same? Aren't we ever learning?) (And I feel, for this very reason, I have to point out here that I identified from my early teens on as bisexual, and only changed that a couple of years ago to demi/pan after I went on a research bing about asexuality while trying to help my sister figure herself out. So, yes, if only bisexual people are allowed to have an opinion about biphobia, I very much still count myself under the bisexual umbrella.)
I personally don't give a fuck about the "if" in Oliver's statement on IG he shared for a while. If Oliver has learned one thing from this fandom, it is that no matter what he says, it will be misconstrued and misinterpreted. So I don't fault him if he doesn't give a fuck anymore and doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about every single word in any of his statements, because, in the end, that's wasted time. (I honestly think it's a strange culture we live in to give single words or phrases so much weight instead of looking at the whole picture.)
*I'd like you all to take a look at Buck's character over all eight seasons and then think about what Oliver said again. We met Buck as this guy who went out seeking sex regularly and not always in a healthy way. He only stopped that after a traumatic event (of course, Dr. Wells is never interpreted as such on the show). But he returned to seeking out sex as comfort after he accepted that Abby wouldn't come back. I think we can assume that he did so after other relationships, too, because Eddie was surprised that Buck didn't take the numbers of those women in the Bachelor scene, but that's an interpretation of course.
It's absolutely in character for Buck to seek out sexual relationships without attachment even if he has shown a desire for attachment. That's been there from day one. I find it pretty insane to call that characterization biphobic now when it has been there from long before it was even discussed to have Buck discover he is bi. (Okay, yes, I know people have been looking down at him for that all along, and there is this narrative in the show and in fandom that "he got over it". But I think that's a problem of many people viewing casual sex as inherently bad and falling into that mindset without even noticing. That's got nothing to do with biphobia.)
#it's the only thing I'll say publicly about this#but my DMs are open for respectful conversations#911 abc#evan buckley#oliver stark#fandom culture#bisexuality#lgbtq community#lgbtqia

Hugh Eddie/chris/Buck fan To say I hated the final would be an understatement, been reading every Eddie/chris reunion fic I can find.i don’t know if u like story ideas but I can’t get these out of my head..Buck drives to Texas to bring Chris back to surprise Eddie at Xmas, Chris calls Eddie in the middle of the night because he is in the hospital and needs his dad, no one told Eddie what happened
the eddie storyline in s7 was heartbreaking. honestly. i think we saw his grief as rage in s3 but i dont think he ever truly processed the loss - and beyond that, the trauma of that relationship while shannon was still alive, because it was a fucking mess. he says in s7, they spent more time apart than together, and we saw in 'eddie begins' the struggles they faced as young parents (esp of a disabled kid) - and sidenote to the sidenote, i am so fucking peeved that we didnt get to see more of shannon because she is actually such an interesting character, and they just brought her back and killed her off so quickly? but anyway - after s3, we see eddie trying to date, and he's always hesitating "because christopher" (is that a legit reason or a bit of an excuse, because christopher loves ana, and seems to get along with marisol just fine?) and the man's gone to therapy and talked about his army days/ptsd etc, but he never really got into the issues that were present in his marriage and the scene where he's (lowkey coerced into) roleplaying with his dead wife's doppelganger brought up SO MUCH GRIEF AND PAIN in such a brief scene
and listen. s7 was PACKED. it was 10 fucking episodes. it was always going to be a little rushed, a little ~ underdeveloped. i'm really hopeful s8 is going to get into eddie's storyline. i liked what we saw in s7 because it was more of a set up for what's to come in s7. and there was actually so much eddie in s7. his "reservoir of catholic guilt" comment is always joked about, because they did that whole nun thing, and this show is a little bit of a comedy at times yeah, but like, let's get into it, actually? he talks to bobby about possibly having 'commitment issues' and if we go back to s6, his desire for the way he clicked with shannon, he's looking for that "magic" BUT BOY? YOU NEED A LOT MORE THERAPY ACTUALLY? i want to see him confront the fact that his marriage was less than perfect, that he's not over the pain shannon caused by leaving, the grief of her death.
eddie has made a lot of mistakes in s7 and it pains me to see the collateral damage he caused christopher in the process, but it was nice to see him let his son go. even though it kills him inside. eddie is such a good dad actually. the separation in the finale showed that once again. yes it's heartbreaking. but it was necessary.
ok sorry this got rambly. im in my eddie feels.
i love story ideas! and buck going to bring chris for christmas is so nice, the two of them conspiring to surprise eddie. so cute. although you lost me at the end there, why is chris at the hospital? is there a car accident during the road trip??? aaaa???

One of the reasons I'm still very confident is they never addressed Eddie's reasons for panic with Anna. Like that's not a normal response when you just aren't that into someone. I think in the midst of the PTSD stuff the origin panic attacks got lost.
Plus they also presented themselves differently. Eddie's reaction to Anna was an attack. Eddie's PTSD was rage filled destruction.
Obviously none of us know the story but if I had to put my money on anything it's that side of Eddie's therapy coming out in however they deal with "Eddie dating" in the back half.
Curious your take, but if I had to out money on it I say the 2s storyline runs opposite till it convergences (a bit like last season). Then only a soft hint as the cliffhanger for S6. The network will know its coming and it will guarantee renewal IMHO and will set up at least half a seasons worth of goodness for 7. Because I am greedy and want it all! Awkwardness and fumbling and huge crushing.
Plus all I really need this season is to one of them identifies as not straight to know it's happening. I'm that easy!!
Hi, lovely Nonnie! Thank you for the ask.
I think it’s not the ‘not being into Ana’ bit that was responsible for Eddie’s panic attacks, more the commitment aspect of it. When she’s mistaken for his wife, when his colleagues want to be introduced to her, etc. But even so, it is def an EXTREME reaction to the fear of commitment, especially when Ana herself isn’t the one trying to push for it or lock him down. When the salesman refers to her as Eddie’s wife, she’s the first one to interject. As 503 indicated and 501 implied, ‘coz on some level she felt his reservations with her, so she must have been scared of his reaction to the salesman’s mistake. Yet, she doesn’t connect it to him collapsing, because as we just said, it IS way extreme, even for someone who’s experiencing commitment issues.
I very much agree with you that his reaction to the commitment fear and to the PTSD were different, and that to a great degree, the latter obscured the parts Eddie hadn’t dealt with yet when it comes to why the thought of committing to Ana was THAT horrifying to him. And I’m also with you that Eddie trying to date again in 6b should logically give us the opportunity to see Eddie more fully confronting why he was with the “perfect woman” and it caused him to go into several panic attacks to the point where he ended up in the hospital.
Yes, I was kinda thinking that in a sense, their storylines are separate in 6a and might be for a bit in 6b as well, but if Buck deals with his take on parenthood through the sperm donor storyline, while Eddie tries to handle dating, that means they’ll both be dealing with the question of what do they want for themselves out of life, what are they looking for and how do they see their future? And that’s the perfect set up for the resolution to be brought about at least in part jointly, just like last season, in 518 we had the scene of Buck helping Eddie fix his walls, while Eddie helped Buck figure out he needed to confront (and break up with) Taylor. I very much hope the two of us are right here, Nonnie! And the way you describe it is exactly how I see the beginning of Buddie going canon. IDK if it’s happen this season, I suspect they’ll save it for when renewal is maybe less guaranteed (and my impression is pretty much still that s7 is a sure thing), but it’s exactly how I think it’ll play out, it’s the perfect opening for a slow burn to finally turn canon. Plus, just like you, I’m greedy and I want it all, in all of its gradual unveiling glory! ;D
Hope you have a great day, hon! As always, here’s my ask tag. xoxox

"If what matters most is how other people see you, then you haven't learned a damn thing."
"I feel like she really sees me, you know?"
"you take inventory of your life admit your shortcomings in hopes that one day you can look at the world straight in the eye and be alone at perfect peace and ease."
"I'm not going back for them. I'm going back for me."
Buck....why does it feel like you're purposely ignoring what you learned in your coma dream?
I honestly feel like this season and coma are the wrap-up of Buck's first/initial character arc of the show, which is who he is as a son and his desire to BE parented. His relationship with Bobby, coming to realize that he may not have had his parents growing up, and they're still not very present now, but he can accept them for what they are and let it go, and still be content in knowing that he has someone who loves him like a father in Bobby. It also wraps up Bobby's arc of trying to hold Buck back because of his trauma of losing his children.
I think Buck's current character arc and the next phase of Buck's growing journey is figuring out who he is AS a parent/father. Both as being his own parent, learning self-love, learning how to be a parent to others and recognizing how his impact will live on in Chris, in Jee, in the new baby (who I still think will play a critical role ((even if maybe not a physical one?)) in upcoming seasons in forcing Buck to really look at himself).
I still think Buck has a ways to go in understanding that his self worth should not be tied to what he can do/be for others. I hope we start to see some steps taken in that direction of what was planted in Buck's coma dreams.
I personally don't think his relationship with Natalia will last very long. I think that whether or not he's with a love interest, his real storyline will come in realizing that he needs to prioritize himself and his needs, and in doing that, he will allow himself to really be present for the people he truly cares about (Eddie & Chris + the firefam).

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO THE CLOWN CAR blame @chiquititadiaz for this post and @extasiswings for having no sympathy for my plight. Tooth-rotting fluff below the cut!
Buck’s been trying really hard not to get anxious about Christmas.
It’s just that it’s his first Christmas with Eddie where the two of them are a couple, and he kind of wants to make it perfect. But if he stresses too much about it being perfect, that’ll stress Eddie out, and that’s the last thing Buck wants, so he just… kind of vibrates on the inside like a paranoid chihuahua while on the outside he helps Chris with the tree and lights and baking.
That part is fun. Discussing where exactly each strand of lights should go, and each ornament, whether or not they need to buy a new angel, and how much icing is too much on the gingerbread house. He stays up way too late baking cookies and wrapping presents, but damn it, it’s all going to be worth it Christmas morning when Christopher wakes up.
He’s in the middle of setting up a scavenger hunt for Chris from Santa when he realizes Eddie’s no longer staring at Buck with a fond look on his face.
In fact, he’s staring at Buck in a way that’s kind of worrying.
“You okay?” Buck pauses, the riddle cards still in his hand. “Do you think these are too easy for him? Or too hard—the one about the dryer—”
Eddie clears his throat. “Uh, no, no, you’re—these are great. I never would’ve thought of it.”
“Yeah, I know you, Diaz, I know when you’re hiding something from me.” Buck sets the cards down and steps up to him, steps up to his boyfriend, to the love of his goddamn life. “What is it? Forgot to buy milk?”
“No.” Eddie’s smiling again now, smiling at Buck like Buck is something wondrous, some kind of miracle. “You finish the scavenger hunt. I’ll be right back.”
“Okay.” Eddie heads for the bedroom and Buck calls softly after him, “don’t trip over the laundry basket!”
He sets up all the cards, then starts the dishwasher and eats one of the cookies left out for Santa. The reindeer food (oats, carrots, raisins, and glitter) gets dumped into a container and snuck out to the garbage with a bit of it spread around to show what a mess those silly reindeer made, and he’s just considering eating the other Santa cookies without Eddie when the man himself reappears.
Buck’s stomach flips, because he knows Eddie—with his eyes, with his fingertips, with his mouth—and he knows that look on Eddie’s face. It’s the look Eddie gets right before he announces something big. Sometimes it’s the will. Sometimes it’s there’s no one in the world I trust with my son more than you.
Sometimes it’s I’m leaving the 118.
For a single blinding second, Buck is terrified that this is it, he invaded Eddie’s space too much, too quickly, the transition from ‘friend’ to ‘boyfriend’ more than Eddie was ready for when it comes to the holidays and—
—and why is Eddie getting down on one knee?
Buck’s not sure what sound he makes, but it’s not quite the ‘what’ that he’d intended to choke out.
Eddie shrugs. “I figured—why not?”
“The—the lease isn’t even up on my apartment,” he croaks, because that is a small black box and Eddie is opening it and holy shit holy shit holy shit—
“As if you haven’t already moved in here,” Eddie points out. “You did the laundry and you reminded me not to trip over the basket. You made a scavenger hunt because you know where everything is. You’re making pumpkin pancakes tomorrow morning with those snowmen and snowflake shaped cutters that I one hundred percent didn’t pick out.
“You live here.” Eddie smiles, and oh, God, it’s magic. “You belong here. And I thought—God I just want to keep him. So.”
“And you—you just—had this on hand?”
Eddie looks down at the box, at the ring, with a small rueful smile on his face. “I bought this the day after we kissed.”
The day after they kissed. After they had a massive fight, and there was definitely crying, and then they kissed, and did a hell of a lot more than kiss, and Buck woke up the next morning in Eddie’s arms in Eddie’s bed in Eddie’s house and never, ever wanted to wake up anywhere else ever again.
He’s known the whole time that Eddie’s the last one for him. The last and the best and possibly in some ways the only real love Buck’s ever had. But he didn’t know—he didn’t think—Eddie has a kid and two relationships that went too fast and threw him for a loop and Eddie’s in therapy and Eddie is careful and—Christ it’s been only six months—
After they kissed, Eddie went out and bought a ring. And he’s had it hidden, somewhere, for six months.
He realizes that Eddie’s probably waiting for a response and he clears his throat. “You—you need to—to ask—”
“Shit.” Eddie starts laughing, and that makes Buck laugh. “Evan.” He stands up, and God he’s so close and he’s real, this is real. “Will you marry me?”
He says yes, he’s sure of it, but it’s hard to tell when he’s crying and Eddie’s kissing him and his hands are framing Eddie’s beloved, beloved face and it’s Christmas Eve and he’s going to spend the rest of his life with this man.
He ends up calling Maddie at two in the morning, waking her up, which she’d be more pissed about if he wasn’t crying all over again.
This isn’t at all how he expected his Christmas to go, with a ring on his finger and Eddie wrapped around him from behind, kissing his neck, as Buck tells his sister he’s engaged. But Chris is asleep safe in his bed, Eddie is holding him and smiling into his shoulder, and his sister is on the phone weeping and laughing with him, and it’s—
It’s the best Christmas ever, honestly. Turns out, he had nothing to worry about.

i’m at work right now too high five for wasting company time! ✨
how do you see a buddie proposal/wedding going? who asks who?
i am the biggest supporter of like. buck wants to get married, wants to call eddie his husband, but he knows how Rough eddie's first marriage was, so he's accepted the fact that marriage might never be in the cards for him, and honestly, buck's okay with that, because what he has with eddie -- the partnership, the love, the devotion -- all of that is more than he ever thought he'd get. so he can deal with being common-law with eddie, because he's not going to complain when he's finally with the love of his life
and then there's eddie, who wants to marry buck so fucking badly that he's pretty sure he's started having stress dreams about it. except eddie is still kind of stuck in the "i was a bad husband to shannon, what if i'm a bad husband to buck too" mindset, and him and frank have a ton of sessions where eddie just. unlearns that thought process, realizes that the person he was with shannon and the person he is with buck are completely different people, because this eddie, the eddie of the present, has put in the work to get better. and most importantly, he didn't do it for buck -- he did it for himself, and that's what makes it meaningful, that's what makes it clear to frank that the mistakes he made with shannon aren't going to be repeated with buck
that was a very long winded way of saying i think eddie asks buck LMAO. my favorite trope re: proposing is eddie trying to come up with something elaborate and spectacular (because buck deserves the grand gestures he gives out so freely) but something keeps going wrong, every time. like the madney scene in 3.13, except it's happening all the time. and eddie is sort of like "holy shit buck was right about the universe, and the universe does not want us to get married". and then he calls adriana and sophia (<3) and they tells him that he's being fucking stupid, and that there isn't a perfect moment or a right time. adriana says eddie you of all people know how unpredictable life is. don't waste it and eddie says holy shit and hangs up the phone on his sister's laughing
and he grabs the ring from his sock drawer and just goes right into the kitchen where buck's been working at a muffin tray that got batter burnt onto it. and buck's standing there over the sink, with his stupid pink dishwashing gloves on, and his tongue is poked out in concentration, and eddie is so fucking in love with him that he doesn't know where to put it, sometimes, and so he just says, "hey, baby?" and buck doesn't even look up, too focused on his pan, but he says "yeah?" and eddie says "i love you" and buck does pause at that, because it isn't like eddie is quiet about his love for buck, but sometimes it makes buck fall short anyway, the fact that eddie diaz loves him, chooses him. and buck says, "i love you too", and eddie smiles that little vampire smile, the one where his teeth poke into his lip, and he says, "if i asked you to marry me right now, what would you say?"
and buck drops the tray with a loud bang and turns to eddie, wide-eyed, soapy water dripping from the gloves, and it sounds punched out of him when he says "what?" and eddie asks again: "what would you do if i asked you to marry me?" and buck laughs, half-hysterical, because he knows he's allowed to have eddie, to love eddie, but he didn't know he was allowed to have this. and buck says "you're an idiot, eds," and eddie sort of frowns, but buck presses forward, taking eddie's face in his hands with his wet gloves, knocks their foreheads together. "of course i'd say yes, sweetheart. i'd say yes right now, and tomorrow, and in a year from now. i'd say yes every day for the rest of our lives, if that's what you wanted." and eddie grins again, so wide and carefree and beautiful, and he says, "i just want you, buck. and i want to call you my husband." and then they kiss in the kitchen where all good things are stored <3
help me waste company time! 🕺
#cole im literally so sorry for how long this is LMAO#i literally couldnt stop thinking about it while i was reviewing these queries#i literally didnt even get to the wedding of it all i can't think about that without crying#trippedandfell#reply#buddie#i should put my fic tag on this bc this is literally a drabble lets be honest

Three makes a family
Eddie Diaz x Evan "Buck" Buckley x Female reader
Genre: mostly fluff, slight angst in the middle
TW: mentions of alcohol, arguing
Word count: slightly over 3K
Taglist: @enterprise-medical
Buck really loved Carla and he knew that Eddie did too, especially since Chris always seemed to happy around her. That is why he did not understand why Eddie chose to hire a babysitter for Chris, clearly Carla could do the babysitting. Eddie tried explaining that he wanted Carla to be able to have some days off, too. After all, it can be exhausting to babysit a very energetic kid all day.
Even if Buck does not understand Eddie’s motivations, he is now sitting in the older male’s living room and waiting for the doorbell to ring, already painting a picture of the babysitter in his head. She probably looks like an evil witch with gray hair and lots of wrinkles on her face, making her seem friendly despite her secretly scaring children by telling them she would eat them. Though as soon as the doorbell rings, Chris starts racing his dad to the door, leaving a very confused Buck behind. “Why did his little buddy seem so excited to see the new babysitter? Why was his little buddy more excited to see his babysitter than he was when Buck came over earlier?? This just feels unfair!” Buck concludes in his head, getting up and walking to the kitchen to grab himself a drink. From his place he can hear the excited yells from Chris, a small smile immediately creeping on his face though dropping almost instantly when he remembers that he wasn’t the one making Chris that happy.
After taking another deep breath, he makes his way over to the living room very steadily, ready to assess you. However, as soon as he lays eyes on you, he chokes up and trips over his own feet, crashing into the small table on the side and dropping his glass. Startled by the sound, Chris, Eddie and you turn around to face him, you immediately jumping up and helping the young firefighter with the broken glass. “You didn’t tell me that I have to babysit two kids, Eds” you state, earning laughter from Chris and Eddie and an embarrassed look from Buck. “You must be Buck, right? Chris has told me a lot about you” you tell the embarrassed man, who is still in shock from seeing your beauty up close. Chuckling softly, you grab the shards of broken glass from his hands before heading to the kitchen to get a towel and throw the shards away.
“So, what do you think?” Eddie asks Buck softly while you are out of the room, however, he does not get a response as Buck simply continues staring at the spot you were sitting a moment ago. Chris slowly gets up and hugs Buck, thinking that the firefighter got hurt when he tripped, though Eddie quickly understood what was going on and shakes his head. Seems like Buck 1.0 still existed somewhere in his younger friend, despite everyone telling him that Buck was no longer like that. Perhaps he should talk to Maddie about this, needing someone’s opinion, that actually knew Buck as well as he did. Though before he has the chance to excuse himself, you are back in the living room and making your way over to Chris. “Ready for a fun day, Chris?” you ask him with a smile playing on your lips to which Chris eagerly nods and allows you to pick him up. “I will bring him home at 8 tonight, alright Eds?” you state, turning to look at the older male. “Yeah, 8 sounds perfect. I will see you tonight.” He replies, smiling at you and walking over to press a kiss goodbye onto Chris’s forehead.
As soon as you and Chris are gone, he gets another cup of water and pours it over Buck’s head, successfully pulling him out of his trance. “Do not even think about sleeping with Y/N, Evan.” He states lowly, giving the younger firefighter a glare while Buck just looks up at him sheepishly. “In my defense, you forgot to mention that the new babysitter was smoking hot. A warning would have been nice.” He grumbles as he shakes his head, sending water droplets flying everywhere before getting up and dropping on to the couch with a small groan. The response left Eddie frowning, sure, he was aware that you were attractive and he would be lying if he said that he wasn’t attracted to you, especially after seeing how much Chris adores you. However, that did not lessen the blow of Buck’s blunt response. Perhaps that was why he was fearing that Buck 1.0 was back, he didn’t want you to be scared off purely because his best friend was incapable of keeping his dick in his pants. “Just try not to fuck her immediately when you get her alone, please. Chris really likes her.” Eddie nearly begs, deciding it was better that he doesn’t add that he likes you too. Buck sighs and nods, pouting a bit. Though for his little buddy, he would definitely try not to get into her pants. After all, he didn’t want Chris to hate him, especially if it was because he couldn’t control himself around you. However, this wasn’t going to stop him from teasing Eddie by flirting with you, because despite the older man trying to hide it, he could tell that Eddie had a thing for you as well.
8 comes quicker than the two males expect and they are slightly startled from their cuddled position when they hear the door opening. Glancing out into the hallway, they spot you carrying a sleeping Chris into his room, unknowingly causing both of the males to smile. Soon enough, you walk into the living room and whisper “he is asleep now and probably won’t be waking up any time soon. We had a lot of fun” before grabbing your bag that you placed on the table in the hallway on your way in. It was clear that you were about to leave, so Buck jumps up and grabs your hand, putting on his best kicked puppy expression. “Why don’t you stay for a bit longer? We have some wine in the fridge and I will drop you off at your place later, I wouldn’t feel right letting a pretty lady like yourself be outside all by yourself.” He states softly, pouting a bit in hopes that it would convince you to stay. You glance between him and his friend, who was eagerly nodding, before sighing and setting down your bag. “Fine, I’ll stay for a bit. But only if you have anything to eat that isn’t almost pure sugar.” You agree, your request causing the older male to jump into motion and quickly rushing into the kitchen to put a pizza in the oven for you. Meanwhile, Buck leads you back to the couch, not letting go of your hand until you pull it away.
Somehow you end up being squished between the two men, a glass of wine in your hand and the pizza on the table. After some small arguing, they decided to just let you choose the movie, so now they had to suffer through one of your favorite horror movies. While you sit there not even flinching, Buck is absolutely terrified and unsure whether he should feel impressed by the fact that you do not mind horror movies or scared that you clearly do not cringe at the big amounts of blood spattering all over the screen. On the other side, Eddie has managed to wrap his arm around your shoulder, with the excuse that he feels safer if he knows that you and Buck are safe and within his reach. He is definitely impressed by your ability to keep a straight face at the movie, though definitely not as surprised as Buck, especially because he knew about your background.
Soon enough the first movie is finished, then a second one, then a third and the next thing you know, you wake up to the smell of bacon in a bed that was most certainly not yours. Looking down at yourself, you realize that the shirt you are wearing is also not yours, leaving you confused for a moment because you do not recall getting changed the previous night. Sighing, you quickly come to the conclusion that one of the two men must have changed you. Rubbing the sleep out of your eyes, you make your way into the kitchen, where you are greeted by the sight of a small family breakfast with Buck, Eddie and Chris. Deep inside your heart, you wish to wake up to that small family every morning, though that wish quickly gets locked up and hidden from the world as you make your way to the coffee machine to get a cup. Chris is the first of the three to react to your presence, calling out your nickname before grinning brightly at you. “Good morning, little one. Did you help make breakfast?” You ask, sitting down on the counter to smile at the nodding boy. “Yeah!! Daddy gave me instructions!” He explains with an excited tone before glancing at the clock and frowning. “Can you convince dad to let me stay at home today?” He asks you with a hushed tone, causing you to giggle and shake your head, whispering back “sorry, but I am sure that the captain would not enjoy you missing your big day in school. Or how else is your group supposed to present the fantastic poem you wrote?”. Chris tilts his head before thinking for a moment. “Fair after school?” he tries to negotiate, causing you to giggle again before nodding. “Sure thing, buddy. Now go brush your teeth and I will drive you to school, okay?” “Okay, mommy!” Chris replies before rushing off to brush his teeth, leaving an uncomfortable silence behind as his words sink into all of you.
Eddie and Buck are watching your interaction with Chris, the sound of your giggles making the smile without realizing it. Surely, you must have noticed that they changed you into something more comfortable last night after you had fallen asleep on Eddie’s chest. However, it just felt natural to the two males to take care of you and make you breakfast, Chris being a bit help. Though when Chris calls you mommy, they freeze and Buck even chokes on his piece of the pancake. They certainly did not expect that Chris was that fond of you, though Eddie is slightly less surprised than Buck, thinking about the countless times that Chris had asked for you to come over. Still, the sudden name caused his movement to halt as well, his brain going haywire, trying to figure out if Chris had somehow found out about his attraction for you and that is why he felt so comfortable with calling you mommy. Or perhaps it was simply because the men had decided to pull one of Eddie’s shirt on you yesterday and that is what made it seem like you two were dating. Or was it the couple of times he had invited you out with Chris and him for dinner? His train of thought is quickly broken though, when Chris appears in the kitchen and says goodbye to the two men, calling Buck dad and Eddie daddy before rushing off to your car. Once again you three are left alone in the kitchen, the silence deafening. “Drive safely, okay?” Buck manages to mutter out, making you nod. Glancing between the two men, you decide to peck their cheeks before rushing out after Chris, grabbing your bag in the process to drive him to the school.
When you return to Eddie’s house, you can already hear the yelling from the outside. Slowly making your way into the house, you can finally understand what the two were arguing about. You. From what you gathered, Eddie was upset with Buck for flirting with you while Buck was countering that obviously Eddie was too chicken to do something about his feelings for you. Avoiding nearly being hit by a vase that comes flying your way, you clear your throat causing the fight to die down and both men to turn to you. “I- uh…” Eddie starts, though you raise your hand to silence him before grabbing the stuff you had left on the couch. “Once you two grow up and handle this like actual adults, then you can call me.” You state before walking out of the house and slamming the door shut behind you, leaving the two men dumbfounded and broken.
Two months. It takes two months of Chris sulking, Bobby scolding them and roughly 5 meetings with Maddie before they can finally face each other again. Yet whenever they stare at your number, they chicken out, too afraid to call you. You had been right, they were acting like two children throwing tantrums, build on the unspoken feelings between them. But now that they were dating steadily and currently curled up together on the couch, they finally decide to call you up. However, much to their distaste, a man answers your phone and for a moment they believe they lost any chance with you, if there even was one to begin with. “Hello? Are you still there?” The man on the phone asks, causing Eddie to nod and reply with a small “yeah”. A hum is heard from the other side of the line before they hear “what do you want from my sister?”. Never in their life did the duo think that hearing such a question would be such a relief. Buck reacts quicker than Eddie and explains the situation, what has happened and why they were calling now. Another hum is audible before some commotion can be heard and then they hear your voice, a sense of happiness washing over them. For whatever reason, you actually agree to meet with them after your work, giving them the address of your workplace.
Your shift ends in 10 minutes when Buck and Eddie walk into the club where you were working, quickly spotting you behind the bar, deciding that your outfit was definitely too short for their liking. Holding on to Eddie’s hand tightly, Buck weasels his way through the crowd and stops right before you at the bar, smiling softly as you smile back. Though he can’t help but look you over once more, the small shirt definitely compliments your chest yet does not leave a lot to the imagination and your shorts are barely allowed to be titled shorts by how short they are. Eddie notices what the younger firefighter is doing and quickly elbows his ribs, earning a grunt and a displeased look from the other before smiling at you. “Three of your favorites, nena.” Eddie yells over the music to you and watches as you get to work, mixing three shot glasses filled with some purpelish looking liquor before sliding them over to him. “What would you like, Evan?” You ask softly before adding “a blowjob?” with a smirk, causing the young male to choke on his own spit, believing he did not hear you correctly. “I am talking about the drink, dumbass.” You explain with a small laugh, preparing one before setting it down before Buck, who still looks like a puppy which just got caught destroying your favorite pair of shoes. “T-Thanks,” he finally mutters out, grabbing the drink and mentally kicking himself for sounding like a schoolgirl that was talking to her first crush. You three fall into an easy conversation, barely paying attention to the time, not noticing that your shift was over until your coworker walks up behind you and tells you to start leaving. You nod and lead the two firefighters to the back room that usually only employees are allowed to enter before grabbing a shirt from your bag and pulling it on before looking at the two men. “Before you ask, yes, it is your shirt, Eds. It is just very comfy.” You state, grabbing the rest of your belongings before smiling at the boys and leading them out of the back door.
A warm ball of cuddles and limbs, that is how you would describe the three of you on Eddie’s bed right now. After you left your workplace, the boys started bombarding you with questions and you answered them all honestly, about how you chose this job in hopes that you would forget the two men that made your days so much brighter, about how you missed Chris and a bunch of other things that they wanted to know. On the way back to Eddie’s place, they stopped at some restaurant that was still open and grabbed the food. Once you were all at his place, you ate and then proceeded to talk about the three of you, about the feelings the duo had for each other and for you and how they wished for you to be a part of the small family they had created. First you jokingly denied them, teasing them that you did not have any feelings for them, but after seeing the hurt flash on their faces, you quickly explained how you returned their feelings and that you missed them a lot within the past two months, even if Carla had kept you up to date with their wellbeing. So now you were all cuddling and just enjoying the presence, because even if tomorrow was not given, if tomorrow everything could fall apart, right now you three were a happy family and you would not change that for anything in this world.
Chris’s reaction the next morning when he walks into the kitchen and sees you sitting on the counter, sipping your coffee while Buck is standing between your legs is priceless. You did not know that the kid could even hit such a high note, but he manages to do so when he screams your name and scrambles over to you, pouting at Buck standing in his way. That was most definitely not what he had in his mind when his dad told him that there was a surprise waiting for him in the kitchen. Though you quickly push Buck to the side, earning a whine from the male about how mean you are, before jumping off the counter and hugging Chris tightly, excited to spend the rest of your mornings with those three.

okay but buck and eddie + "pretending you're going to kiss your best friend to see how they're going to react, they grab your face and kiss you back" from the kissing prompts
Eddie would, without question, move heaven and earth to make Christopher happy. It’s not something he’s ever had to doubt about himself - Christopher is his main priority in life, and Eddie would stand on his head for hours if it meant he got to see his son smile. All that being said - he might have bitten off more than he could chew, with this one.
Christopher was in El Paso for a week. Pepa had been going there anyway, and she’d taken Chris to see Eddie’s parents - despite Eddie insisting he could take Chris himself. Their work schedule wasn’t too bad, that week, and they had three days off in a row without having to use any vacation time, so he could have flown out there, but Pepa - and abuela - had insisted Eddie take some time for himself, which was not something he was very good at, so instead, Eddie had decided to surprise Christopher with a total room makeover.
Chris was the definition of a tweenager - he was hitting the age where everything was starting to be totally embarrassing (Christopher’s words, not Eddie’s) and so he thought his room was too childish. It’s just - Eddie hadn’t had the time, before now, to clear the room out, repaint it, replace all the furniture - the works.
Buck had been on board from the second Eddie had suggested it, and three trips to the hardware store, a whole day of painting Christopher’s room a seafoam green, and one very stressful trip to Ikea later, Eddie was sitting on the floor of his sons room, Buck looking entirely too self-satisfied as he pointed out Eddie was definitely building Christopher’s new desk wrong.
Eddie glared at his best friend. “Did you look at these instructions? It’s not exactly my fault that I put it together wrong,” he huffed, throwing the crumpled paper at Buck. “There’s pictures, and no words.”
“That’s supposed to make it easier, Eddie,” Buck said, smoothing out the instructions. “Come on, it can’t be that bad. We’re firefighters, we’re not going to be defeated by flat-pack furniture. Well, I won’t be - I don’t know about you.”
Eddie rolled his eyes. “You’re real cute, Buckley.”
Buck looked up, grinning. “Aw, you think I’m cute?” he teased, making kissy-faces at Eddie, leaning in impossibly close - close enough that Eddie could feel the huff of his breath against Eddie’s own cheek, close enough for Eddie to be able to study every flutter of Buck’s eyelashes. “You think I’m cute. You think I’m the cutest ever,” he continued, his laughter genuine and bright, filling in every crack of Eddie’s heart as always. “You think I’m cute, and you want to kiss me.”
Buck was probably joking, Eddie realised - but something about his words, they made something snap inside of Eddie.
His feelings for Buck, they had changed, a long time ago - in hindsight, part of Eddie had to wonder if their friendship had ever truly been totally platonic, given how deep the connection was, from day one - but Eddie had really accepted he had been in love with his best friend right after he’d gotten shot. The moment the bullet had torn through his shoulder had been a strange one - it was as though Eddie’s life, past, present, and future, had played on some sort of desperate, sped-up, movie-style preview, and his heart and brain had gone into overdrive. He hadn’t been sure of what it had meant, until he’d woken up and seen Ana where he wished Buck was, and he’d only lasted a few more days before breaking it off with Ana.
(“It’s Buck, isn’t it?” she’d asked, more perceptive than Eddie had given her credit for. It felt like the movement took every ounce of strength in his body, but Eddie had nodded. “I hope it works out, Eddie,” had been the last thing she’d ever said to him.)
But Buck had been with Taylor - and he’d been happy, for a long while, until they’d broken up pretty amicably. They’d wanted different things, out of life - Buck wanted a family, a house in the suburbs and a happily ever after, and Taylor’s vision of her future hadn’t looked like that.
(“It was too big a difference, to find a compromise on,” Buck had shrugged. “I want a family - she doesn’t. It wouldn’t be fair to ask each other to change our minds on that - but we’re still friends, and I’ll be okay.” He’d sounded so sure, that Eddie was helpless to do anything except believe him.)
The breakup had been months ago, now, and Buck had all but moved in, since, spending all his time with Eddie and Christopher and all those feelings Eddie had buried for the six and a half months Buck and Taylor had dated for had come back with a vengeance, and Eddie had felt like he was drowning in how much love he felt for Buck.
So maybe Buck was joking -
But Eddie wasn’t, when he dived across the floor and cupped Buck’s face in his hands, pressing his lips to Buck’s in a desperate, urgent kiss. He’d imagined so many versions of their first kiss - slow, and romantic, exchanged over dinner, desperate and hurried, exchanged in the midst of an emergency. Eddie had never imagined this - never imagined the way Buck was frozen, in Eddie’s grasp, never imagined feeling too scared to pull back because he was worried that would be the first, and last, time he ever got to kiss Buck.
Eventually - Eddie had to pull back.
“I’m sorry,” he managed, trying to wrack his brain for an excuse for his behaviour. Could he blame it on the paint fumes, maybe? Say that they’d addled his brain and gotten him a little high? They hadn’t worn masks, when they painted, after all.
Buck’s grip on his wrists was tight, stopping Eddie from moving away. “Do you think I don’t want this, Eddie?” he asked, his cheeks flushed an adorable shade of pink, eyes wide and sincere as he looked at Eddie.
Eddie had never felt more embarrassed in his life. “You didn’t kiss me back,” he pointed out, wishing Buck would let him move away.
“You didn’t give me a chance to,” Buck said, and before Eddie could say anything else, Buck was kissing him again, slow and unhurried, as though they had all the time in the world to do this, to figure out how best to fit together.
Eddie couldn’t help the surprised noise he made against Buck’s mouth as the younger man pulled him into his lap, the way Buck’s strong hands gripped his thighs and easily maneuvered him unfamiliar - but not unwelcome. “Do you really want this?” he found himself asking, steadying himself by holding tightly to Buck’s shoulders.
He’s not sure he’d ever sat in someone's lap before, as an adult. It was kind of nice.
Buck nuzzled his face against Eddie’s neck, breathing deeply for a second. “I’ve wanted you for so long, Eddie,” he admitted. “I can’t remember how it feels to not want you - to not want this, us, our family, forever.”
“Our family,” Eddie echoed softly, brushing Buck’s sweaty, gel-free hair back off his forehead.
“Is that okay?”
Eddie nodded, leaning in to kiss the worry off Buck’s forehead. “It’s more than okay, Buck. It’s perfect.”
(It was hours later, when Eddie looked in the door of Christopher’s bedroom, a half-naked Buck doing his best to distract him as Eddie surveyed the wreckage of half-built flat-pack furniture littering Christopher’s floor.
“Chris is home tomorrow,” Eddie sighed, reaching back to run a hand through Buck’s hair. “We really need to finish.”
Eddie didn’t need to look at his best friend to know the younger man was grinning. “How do you feel about getting a TaskRabbit, Eds?”)

Reasons/signs why buddie is likely to go canon
Hey, Nonnie! Oooo, great question, okay I've got to think about this.
I would say the main reason why Buddie is likely to go canon is because both Buck's and Eddie's stories are so intertwined, it only makes sense for them to get together. Not just as family but also romantically. They are literally the answer to what they're each looking for in a partner. Nothing else makes sense though the show has had quite a few opportunities to veer off of this course for a while now but they haven't taken them, and instead seemed to have double downed on it, getting us closer and closer to Buddie canonization.
As for signs, hmm...
Well, other than seeing Eddie pining for Buck and how much we're getting closer to that portion of the story where it will be confirmed in some way, they've given us more than a few. But I'll pick the main ones:
1) Eddie and Ana breakup - a previous nonnie mentioned how Ana is essentially the perfect woman for Eddie and I agree, she's good on paper (in season 5 at the least), which we saw being shown in that firehouse scene in 5x02. There is literally no reason for these two not to stay together (except for it not being what Eddie wants and their severe lack of chemistry/love). Christopher loves her and from what he said, he obviously expects that a marriage is in the future. She would be a good support for Eddie, she's empathetic and she's always reaching out to him and Christopher physically. She also would be a great partner, not just with Christopher, but also in certain situations like we see in the firehouse scene. She immediately took charge of the situation when it appeared Eddie wasn't going to when it came to Ravi and sort of made it a little easier until the wife mention. And then she rolls with it when Eddie asks Ravi to give her a tour so he can make his escape. She's perfect on paper. So for them to show us this, this late in the game, only to turn around and discard it soon after because it's what's triggering Eddie's panic attacks due to it not being what he wants...to me, that's a huge sign we're heading to a Buddie canonization. Especially, when Ana has been paralleled and contrasted with Buck several times during the short time of her relationship with Eddie. Especially since Buck has to be the one to tell Eddie to let Ana go and not hurt her if she's not what he wants. Especially when for a second there, it became The Buckley Diaz family vs The Flores Diaz family and we know who won out in that round in Eddie's eyes and which one he felt more at ease with.
2) The parallels - I know we always talk about these but I believe this is one of the most telling signs that we're heading to canon Buddie. Buck has been paralleled to Chim, Hen, Bobby, Athena, Karen, and of course Maddie. Eddie, the same. Not to mention, Buck and Eddie have been continuously paralleled and contrasted to the romantic partners in their lives, both past and present. With all of this foundation being built, with all of these direct parallels and contrasts, there's no way Buddie isn't going canon. They've been weaving this story way too intricately for it to be loosened or unraveled or to start weaving something new for one of the guys or both now.
3) The other relationships around Buddie - time and time again, Buddie has been linked/paralleled/connected to the other canon relationships in the show: Bathena, Henren, and Madney. Not to mention that they've done this within the context of romance, such as the 3x13 scene where Eddie asks Buck if he wants to come over. Which Buck declines and then they go about having Hen confirm she and Karen have a date night, then Bobby has one with Athena, and then Chim wants to spend the night with Maddie, so Buck ends up alone. And they've also done it a few times in framing:
You have Bathena and Henren on one side, and Madney on the other, with Buddie in between. Not only are they trying to throw strong hints at us but there's literally no reason for them to keep doing this if they didn't plan to make Buddie romantic at some point and endgame (especially when paralleled with Bathena and Henren). If they wanted to only display the deep partnership and friendship, the only relationship they should be paralleling/keep getting connected to is Chim and Hen's partnership/friendship.
4) The stand-ins - each time there seems to be some sort of separation between the two, physically or emotionally or both, they've opted to use stand-ins for both characters. The biggest examples are Lena for Eddie during the lawsuit arc (standing in for Buck), Marjan and TK in the crossover (standing in for both Buck and Eddie respectively) Ana (besides being who Eddie felt he needed to move on with, she's a stand-in for Buck in 4x14), and Taylor (standing in for Eddie in 4x14). The fact that they use stand-ins, to me, is a very big clue. These two have come to rely on each other that much that the story/writers need to provide them with stand-ins, usually in the form of women (and TK, a confirmed gay character who mistakenly thinks Buck is hitting on him at the end of the crossover). They also use smaller characters in the story to be stand-ins for Buck and Eddie as well, in certain situations (not all of them women) and aren't necessarily provided for the other character to interact with, i.e. Corey the gunman in 4x08 was a stand-in for Buck (so was Mr. Nowels), Brian the fake firefighter in 4x06 was a stand-in for Eddie, the guy Eddie beat up over the parking space in 3x05 was a stand-in for Buck, etc. To me, that's a very big tell.
5) 5x01 relationship link - they purposely showed us that there is something missing in each relationship for each guy, even though they have these seemingly perfect partners for these points in these guys' lives and where they're currently at. And it revolved around the physical. For Buck and Taylor, it was sex on the surface but had more to do with the emotional, since we saw Taylor was determined to find the answers about what happened that day than focus on Buck. For Eddie and Ana, we get a hint that their relationship has progressed physically by a comment and reaction, then we see Eddie having a panic attack, but underneath it all, he was triggered by the store clerk mistaking Ana as Christopher's mother, and there is a lot more since Dr. Salazar intimates that Eddie is repressing the anxiety aka something emotional. Not only is that a sort of vague parallel between both relationships, but it's also showing us that there is definitely something missing from both of these dynamics for both guys. (which is why it doesn't surprise me in the least that Eddie is able to talk candidly with Buck in 5x02 and vice versa)
6) Eddie and Buck only seem to be able to be truly vulnerable with one another - this to me, is just a given at this point. Not that we haven't seen Buck be vulnerable with Bobby or even Maddie (I would say Maddie and Eddie are the two people who know Buck the best out of everyone and who Buck can truly be vulnerable with, while Bobby and Buck provide that same dynamic for Eddie), but there's definitely an exclusive window into Buck that Eddie has, with and without Buck's invitation. Eddie sees Buck for who he is and vice versa. To have this unique part of their emotional relationship exist, and then it's contrasted to all of the romantic partner in their lives who can never seem to have that access, is another big sign to me. They could have kept it strictly as two friends, two partners, who just get each other, and that's that. And then eventually a romantic partner would come along for one guy or both who would after a time (and possibly approval from the other, depending how cliche and trope-y they would have wanted to get) gotten that access as well. But they didn't. They've made this vulnerability pretty much exclusive with the exception of Maddie and FireDad.
7) Show making Buckley Diaz family official through legal guardian reveal - if there was ever a big neon sign flashing (without showing us Eddie's feelings) that pointed the way to Buddie, this is it. Is it possible that two friends, two partners, two brothers, could have also had this development without any future romantic implications? Sure. But that's not how it went down. If it did, we would have had the reveal a lot sooner or happening when Eddie first woke up or happening at another time when Eddie is in danger or wounded again (like this alleged hostage situation coming up). But instead they chose this very specific timing and context of when Eddie chose to reveal this information to Buck. Because it absolutely is not about their friendship or Eddie's concern of what will happen to Chris should he not be around anymore. He doesn't even know about the crane climb (at least that we saw). But he chose to reveal it right then because Buck had said it would have been better for Chris if he had been shot. Not to mention they showed us Eddie's reaction to this line:
Eddie needed Buck to know that he matters to Christopher, to him. That he isn't expendable. And Christopher 99.9% of the time is synonymous with Eddie. And Eddie uses the mention of Christopher as a shield. The legal guardian reveal was all about Eddie, and Buck. And the show purposely chose to put it in this context and within this dynamic and timing when they didn't have to, in order to keep the lines clear. Instead, they double-downed on the Buckley Diaz family and how it would lead us into the next season, and how it would affect these two specifically, whether that be the dynamic at work or outside of it or both.
There are many other signs but these are the top 7 off of the top of my head. Buddie's going canon. There's no two ways about it. And while the relationship may not happen instantly, a conversation (and realization) is definitely due to happen this season. Eddie's feelings are all but glaringly obvious enough that they're written in Sharpie on his forehead and I don't see how Buck can remain oblivious to this fact much longer (or to his own feelings), whether that's him seeing it himself or someone else pointing it out to him.
I hope I was able to answer your question thoroughly, Nonnie! Thank you for the ask! Hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend!!! <3
