i dont really feel gojos death was a cop out because there were already signs of gege hinting at his return, hence the theories (which were actually pretty strong and convincing) and those who were dedicated to those despite how much time passing since his death. idk despite everything, whether geges writing is objectively good or not, gege always was intentional with his writing and probs one of the least fanservicey manga writers rn.

idk his death would be such a waste of potential outcomes if it was just that, like its plot armor, yes, but justified plot armor. why have a character as grand as gojo and the pay off be so unfulfilling. especially in comparison to chosos death, chosos death felt like a development of his character while as gojos just felt like oh he died so we can remove his ass and move on and have the world be more in peril. like that just treats gojos purpose more to be some type of weapon, than him being an actual character striving for something greater. you can argue that his death is an irony of him being the strongest and getting clapped was like a break of that notion, but idk that just seems like such a waste of gojos maturation and development after geto. like i want to see that type of development or enlightenment when hes alive and without geto to actually feel a sense of satisfaction and pride for him.

maybe im biased because i am an avid enjoyer of the reincarnation and gojo being a parallel to buddha theories, but idk for a manga like jjk it deserves some whimsical and crazy imagination yk

i didn't mind the gorn eps in s1 of snw so much bc i thought they might be doing smth with like how la'an had very bad experiences w them and let that completely influence her perspective/how the crew had only her word to take about their nature and even with this most recent ep doubling down on some very serious flaws in starfleet's structure/mentality but w the end stinger i was like hmm maybe i overestimated the writers...

ack i still personally think they shouldve made up another alien for la'an's backstory like it was sooo hard for me to recontextualize the guy from Arena with planets and planets of human hunting grounds.......i think it might have been ok if they didn't decide to make gorn society more as opposed to less animalistic. if they had done what tng's era did for the klingons (or ds9 with the ferengi) that would've been something. but this.....yeah. also idk if it was just me but it was also weirdly reminiscent of the trandoshans in STAR WARS and anything being reminiscent of star wars imo is a bad move for this show in particular. i see ur point and i really like la'an's whole deal still but to me it couldve been another guy.

as for 2x02. the conclusions and ideals they spouted out were sooooooooooooooo tos/tng era liberalism that i didnt even blink. it was annoying but im like more annoyed that snw maintains that era of starfleet idealism but slipped up on something as big as black and white alien xenophobia when the guy happens to look like a lizard

Overall I think the show works for what it is but couldve really used an extra episode or two for the sake of setting up Miriam. We're TOLD a great deal about her, that she's damaged, she's running from the past, she's close with Roland and in love with Hira. But we never really slow down to SHOW it and it makes him come off as a little obnoxiously Brooding Antihero for the first half of the series. She also speedruns into trusting these people and being willing to retraumatize herself for them sooo quickly. The early episodes are so marred by her having Big Protag Moment after Big Protag Moment that it gets kind of absurd. Legitimately laughed out loud when she had two back to back "I shouldve known....no one could ever get me...all anyone wants is to use me" moments in the first episode. I think a full episode dedicated to her life inbetween the heist and Hira leaving couldve done really good things for her and Roland's character, as well as more than a montage dedicated to the full party bonding

The side characters stole the show early on, Qwydion especially I hope we see more from in Dreadwolf. Roland and Lacklon had me kicking my heels and giggling. The dynamic between Neb Rezaren and Miriam is genuinely one of the best things Bioware has ever done with blood magic. It felt like for the first time I actually got what makes it so intrinsically horrifying to people in Thedas (beyond murder scary etc)

Also for the record I called Hira's betrayal from like the first ten minutes of the series and I don't know at this point if that's a sign of sloppy foreshadowing or me being way too deep into this genre.

season two left off king dice seemingly living in hell as one of the demons, after losing his above ground job, yet season 3 we find him living above ground AND you want me to believe he had nowhere to go as a famous person that people easily recognised later the same episode? how convenient for the writers. what they shouldve done (and it wouldnt require many changes) is have dice be kicked out by the devil following the events of the season two episode, and be told he is not allowed to perform again (just as a punishment that isnt even useful to devil but he knows thats dices one thing so it would mess him up), only for dice to be convinced by cuphead to start perfrming at the barn THINKING he wouldnt get recognised at a small place like that and the devil wont know he is performing like he wasnt supposed to, only for his amazing performances to quickly amass an audience and the devil to find him (that part also doesnt change) and then the devil sees his potential or whatever and offers him to get his show back and promises even better things than before and dice falls for it. Alternatively devil could be written to just own dices soul and be able to force dice to go back down, as soon as he finds him at the barn. But thats like not cute and messes with me trying to ship them sooo💅🤔

also another thing that bothers me is they sort of use the devil as a punching bag and dare i say, fetishize him? when he could just be a campy villain without all the degrading weird shit. i know its a cartoon and most of the characters get that treatment but not to the same degree. just to be clear i adore devil acting queer and i wouldnt mind all the weird shit thats happening to him but the show does everything in its power to constantly remind us its supposed to be humiliating and uncomfortable

i got to be in ensemble for newsies and oh my GOD newsies is like the best musical ever i adore it. broadway musical i could watch over and over and over the music gets stuck in my head easily AND OKAY SO. my gender was rlly difficult for me freshman year, but being able to dress up as a boy for that show felt really validating. and just the way the script Is... accidental gender affirmation everytime us as a group got refered to as boys despite the all gender cast. this was also during my "i wear flannels for gender euphoria" moment of my life so my newsies outfit was just...clothes i already wore plus a vest and hat HDKDGDKD

then we did into the woods and.... my god. okay so i dont think i ever got all the lyrics right for the amount of songs with the same melody but Different words... but thats okay. i got to play one of cinderella's stepsisters THE FUCKING DRESS FOR THAT SHOW WAS SO PRETTY only time ive gotten to wear a real princess dress <33 HORRIBLE TO DANCE IN THOUGH. i almost tripped and fell every show (which wouldve been funny i was evil sooo i mean. i shouldve)

then. then we did les miserables and . that musical is hell to work on it's a fucking opera and it's So emotionally taxing but SO good. like i had the time of my life but i barely slept. best show ever best show ever. i played gavroche (an 8 year old boy who just lives on his own.... and joins the revolution) and i successfully made people cry! i really really hope my mom can find the camcorder her bf used to record the whole show because.. i think i'd cry if i got to watch it as audience. the music is terrifying to learn i sung in soprano (for reference on how difficult it is, check the song one day more. the chorus sections are insane)

i also tripped in the audience during a full solo and my ONLY concern at the time was "please let my mic not be broken Please let my mic not be broken." i cried backstage for like 5 minutes after bc of the adrenaline. THEN I HAD TO GO ONSTAGE AGAIN ALONE so i couldnt cry long GDKSHDJ

les mis is like my best life experience that show means everything to me i miss it so much..it went by too fast

the last show i was in was called urinetown (sounds weird but it's a satirical comedy about how capitalism will kill off all of humanity it's fun) and the dancing for it was the most difficult thing ive ever had to learn!

the music is also like. Yikes i was struggling probably just as much as les mis because i switched to alto (i attempted soprano for it but it Hurt me. so i switched. and harmonies are a pain but i got em eventually) i had more lines in this show than les mis but i didnt really care much for my character?? it was similar to newsies except i had some one off lines because comedies with a group of characters are like that. gfjdhdj THE DANCING. we had 2 choreographers helping us, and i hated it so much <3 i hate learning choreo in dimly lit rooms because i Cant see anything. i needed to take videos and learn on my own and had like 1 friend who could kinda help but it was still like aushajha Why

WE DIDNT GET TO PERFORM THAT SHOW. our opening night was march 13th 2020 so . we just had to fucking mourn everything. but i mean the experience was still great and theatre was my escape. idk what i would've done without it, the theatre kept me focused on things i enjoyed and meant i wasnt just wallowing

me as soon as we’re done w/the yorknew arc: OH FUCKY ITS ANIME MOVIE TIME

i love anime movies. theyre so often Entertaining As Hell, and also Not Very Good. its a very fun intersection 

overall this movie slots pretty easily into that category. it was a good time but nothing revolutionary. which is ok! and that makes sense bc its not canon apparently 

this movie was basically the ‘killua and kurapika have Trauma(tm)’ movie lmao 

we open w/killua having a trauma dream abt illumi, rehashing the stuff we saw in the hunter exam arc....we see this a few more times in the movie, and it really drives home how killua is still rlly scared of illumi and kinda just goes into a dissociative trauma state whenever illumi is around (even fake doll illumi or dream illumi, in this movie). poor kid :( :( 

regrettably tho ruth and i agree that illumis outfit in this movie was pretty sexy 

ok that whole beginning part where kurapikas eyes get stolen happens SO fast hvbfhdjshfsk its like ok guess thats the status quo for this movie!

general thots:

so this was very much an Anime Movie, in that they cant like, advance to plot or develop the characters much, bc its a movie. and this one is non canon

it was enjoyable but i do feel like it was much more typical shounen then hxh usually is...like, i feel like this was made by the same people who make like, the naruto movies or w/e, and w/the same sort of approach/attitude 

this isnt necessarily bad - i LIKE shounen for a reason - but it was a bit noticeable bc it wasnt quite as smart as hxh is usually, and it rehashed a lot of stuff weve already seen in this show itself 

but still i think it did a good job w/what it had, and it had some good angst, and everyone was very gay which is good

the art style was SLIGHTLY wack but it wasnt as bad as i thought itd be 

overall a fun time like most anime movies. didnt reinvent the wheel but i had a good time. im excited for the greed island arc, and im also disproportionately excited to watch the hxh musical bc that is a thing that exists and i MUST see it asap bc that sounds like the kind of hilarious wackiness that appeals to me specifically

if asp was really set on things going “full circle” by having rory be pregnant, then i think what she shouldve done was open ayitl with rory admitting that shes pregnant. the series still couldve followed the “season” format by rory learning that shes pregnant in winter & then giving birth in fall. we couldve seen rory struggle with being pregnant & working (and then raise issues concerning being a single working mother, as lorelai did, thus furthering the whole “full circle” thing) and how her relationship with christopher will affect her relationship with her child & logan’s relationship to it, as well. we couldve seen luke & lorelai both prepare to be grandparents and discuss why they never had kids and how they exist together, as a team, to help rory raise her baby. we also still couldve seen (the only highlight in ayitl) emily’s growth and development as she figures out what her life is like after richards death, while also struggling with what it means for her to be a great grandparent without richard by her side. 

the series’ thesis, imo, shouldve been about family and love and community and by showing how rory’s family life was different than lorelai’s. maybe it wouldve been boring (drama and angst wise) to see everyone gather ‘round rory to be her support system, i dont know, but i do think it wouldve been more true to the characters to show that, yes, maybe things do come full circle, but you are not doomed to repeat your family’s mistakes. the father of rory’s baby mightve actually chosen to be an active part of its life. rory has supportive parents when lorelai didnt. rory has friends who love to help her when lorelai was doing everything on her own. watching the stars hollow townspeople plan themselves around rory’s baby wouldve been a joy because we all know that they love her dearly and will also love her kid. idk i just think...ayitl felt sooo cold when it shouldve been filled with warmth

so honestly i think the quote that best sums this up is thor’s quote about stopping trying to be what’s expected and just being who he is. i’m aware that characters are written and ultimately the writer controls what happens BUT i think that perfectly sums up the difference between character arcs & in character actions.

everyone is complaining about thor and steves arcs and it’s like..... arc wise yes thor shouldve been king & steve shouldve acclimated to the future. but arcs are ALSO written and most of the time characters are forced into situations and it’s a completed character arc bc it rhymes/it’s poetic/it completes a cycle. BUT that is not the same thing as a character doing something in character. steve WANTED to go back and live with peggy. thor WANTED to explore the universe away from duty. maybe they didnt complete specific arcs that everyone expected but... they’re being who they are. in contrast to that you have tony who WANTED to stay with his family but chose to sacrifice himself & this completed his character arc beautifully. but those two kinds of ends for characters are not at odds with each other and one is not automatically bad writing bc the other one exists.

that being SAID here’s some more general thoughts
