How would the assassins react to meeting amazons?
https://www.washingtonpost.com/science/2019/12/31/amazons-were-long-considered-myth-these-discoveries-show-warrior-women-were-real/
(As usual I’m only adding the main games and I’m counting the Hidden Ones. Also, Basim isn’t here because I haven’t played Mirage yet)
Altaïr:
I mean… he has a thing for women who can fight when you consider Adha and Maria. Not counting the whole “what sorcery is this?” moment of his when he first met Maria which can be seen as him being too surprised by how he had been fooled by Maria into thinking she’s Robert de Sablé, we can safely say that Altaïr would give them the respect he believes they deserve. Of course, if this is post-Altaïr Chronicles + pre-AC1, then he’ll treat them the way he treats everyone, in that same arrogant “I know I’m better than you” kind of way. But, hey, at least, he treats everyone equally.
Ezio:
He’d most definitely be respectful although, if anyone was going to flirt with him, he’ll flirt back. Nothing serious though, he’s most probably there for a mission and he’s old enough to know when to prioritize. After the mission though, well, what he does in his free time is not any of the Brotherhood’s business as long as it doesn’t go against the Creed and the tenets.
Ratonhnhaké:ton:
He does not see why this is surprising. He was raised by a mother who was also a warrior. His grandmother is the leader of their clan. He doesn’t get why others are surprised.
Edward:
After the Mary reveal? Edward is at the realm of “Nothing surprises me anymore about women. I don’t know women, I will never understand women so this? This isn’t surprising me at all” all the while actually being just a bit surprised because of his upbringing. But he’s not showing it.
Arno:
… I mean… They’d remind him of his lost love, that’s for sure. Depending on how much time has passed, this might make Arno maudlin or he would look at them with a small smile that is both fond and also sad. It won’t stop him from doing his mission but he’d definitely feel some kind of bittersweet emotion whenever he thinks they do something Élise would have done.
Evie and Jacob:
Jacob would look at them for a moment before joking, “Looks like we found your homeland, Evie.”
And Evie would immediately counter with a dry “Oh good, I always knew I was adopted.”
Jayadeep is behind them, trying his best not to get swept up by their conversation to say “you’re twins” because he knew that he would lose if he did that.
Bayek:
I mean, Bayek fell in love with Aya. He would give these women the respect they deserve as warriors.

OOC:
Good morning!
As the long-term writer who has had this political muse for two full U.S p.residental cycles, I've decided this time I'm going to do something about it.
There's a good chance that people will find today stressful. I can't guarantee I'll be here the entire time because of time zones. However! Should you wish to have something to take your mind off things, the three blogs I write (this one, Wilf, and the "multi") are open! This also includes reaching out privately to chat (... d.iscord is a maybe, but it's fine to use if we already shared them).
Want to figure out dynamics? Talk about your muses? Just talk in general about the franchise (except E.dge of S.leep since that hasn't released here yet)? That's fine too!
Let's keep the overall dash space open today and keep the energy levels positive!

QUOTE COMPILATION 2 ELECTRIC BOOGALOO⁉️
(GWEN'S MOTHER): We are gathered here today because someone- *glares at Gwen’s coffin* -couldn’t stay alive!
Canoodle: Where’s my chair?
Lilith: Chester broke it over Krawl’s back while they were wrestling.
Krawl: Correction, Chester was wrestling. I was eating soup.
Daisy: Is something burning?
Gwen, leaning seductively on the counter: Just my desire for you.
Daisy: Gwen, the toaster is literally on fire.
Gwen: *holding a salt packet* It’s just a little sodium chloride.
Dewey: Actually Gwen, it’s salt.
Gwen: That’s what I said, sodium chloride.
Dewey: Uh Gwen, that would be salt.
Dewey: *takes salt packer from Gwen* This is iodized table salt, which in addition to sodium chloride contains anti-caking agents and potassium iodate, which is added to prevent iodine deficiency. So not only are you being overly pretentious by insisting on using scientific terminology for everyday items, you are factually wrong. Your arrogance is your downfall, you annoying little shit.
Dewey, knocking on the door: Daisy, open up!
Daisy: It all started when I was a kid.
Dewey: That’s not what I-
Krawl: Let them finish!
Gwen: Look, Krawl! It's the good Kush!
Krawl: It's the dime store, how good can it be?
(GWEN'S MOTHER): Sorry I'm late, I was doing stuff.
Gwen: YOU PUSHED ME DOWN THE FUCKING STAIRS!
Dewey: COMPANY IS COMING! I WANT THIS PLACE LOOKING LIKE DISNEY ON ICE IN ONE MINUTE!
Dewey: Gwen IF YOU HAVEN'T MADE YOUR BED THROW IT AWAY IT'S TOO LATE TO MAKE IT NOW!
Dewey: GET RID OF THE COUCHES, WE CAN'T LET PEOPLE KNOW WE S I T !
Lilith, rushing into the room: It’s terrible, just terrible! I am so upset!
Dewey: Lilith, honey, sit down! Sweetheart, tell us all about it. Gwen, would you get Lilith some water?
Gwen: What are they gonna do with water? Has water ever made you feel better when you were upset? Have you ever heard anyone say, “Thank God, the water’s here!”?
WARNING: THERE ARE POST-AFTERMATH SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT OCCASIONALLY. ABANDON HOPE ALL YEE WHO ENTER
Krawl: Do you love me?
Stickle: We’re literally married.
Krawl: Yeah, but as friends or—
Dewey: The odds of this happening by coincidence are vanishingly small.
Stickle: I would say infinitesimally.
Gwen: And I'd say teenily-weenily. We all know words.
Gwen: I’m just remembering that my second year in America someone asked me to “Validate their Parking” which was the first time I heard that phrase and after blinking stupidly for a full five seconds I said “Well, parking is very hard but I’m sure you did really well.”
Gwen: Dear Diary, my young adult angst bullshit has a body count.

I don't know how much longer I can work at a Christian university before I lose my fucking mind completely I have got to get the FUCK out of here bro
#The academic culture here is atrocious and the way they want me to teach is so not my style#ENG comp one classes with 100 kids should be illegal#I get graders and assistants but it's still hard to give good feedback and help any of them on a personal level#Also my classroom style is not lecture heavy but I've had to adapt bc of the class size#Some students and staff are sweet and not hateful zealots but others are evangelicals with 0 brain cells#Like. I shouldn't have to tell a student that yes they can use the Bible as a source if it's relevant but it cannot be their only source#You need. Peer reviewed research.#The approach I usually take is 'hey so it's called faith because you don't need proof to be devoted to God. But in this paper I need you#To rely on what you can see and provide evidence for' and that usually works but I am so tired. Of even having to address it#I've been applying for jobs at local community colleges but I keep getting turned down#Maybe it's because I don't have enough professional development in my resume I don't fucking know#I just think I will snap someday if I keep working here#I've already located the like. Three gay people in the department and made friends thank God#Keeps me sane#But fuck bro#I'm so depressed#I don't feel like I'm doing good by the students#I don't feel like I'm intellectually stimulated. Or using my talents#I don't feel good about this job#And they pay like garbage#Some of the students are sweet and want to learn and clearly get something out of my class but many do not.#Woof

Some1 calling asking to place an order for pickup but we don't do phone pickup orders anymore. I give the whole thing about "you could use our app or one of the delivery services we use for pickup" but she said she tried the app but she can't use the gift card there. & also she was nice about it. & I asked how many drinks she wants & she answered just one so I was like "you know what? For You I will make an exception"
She was so grateful coming in bc she has an antsy kid and didn't wanna have to wait too long. & she mentioned being worried about me possibly getting in trouble for this. & I was just like "I'm the assistant manager here, I can decide to waive a rule from time to time. It's Fine" & she just kinda laughed and then left

*quietly disgruntled geology grumbling*
#my ramblings#shut up finlay#this is not about valid criticism of the lack of action in the past but more a criticism of the ‘not calling evacuations already’#or anything formalized yet#because you cannot predict where the magma will flow before erupting#it began to effuse from the northeastern rift this afternoon#which they can then call tho as far as i know the lava is fairly slow towards that region (ish) and there is a bit more wiggle room#yes without formal action from usgs and local/state government any evacuation will be woefully inadequate#also ‘signs for months’ isn’t necessarily an indicator of an eruption#earthquakes and deformations happen regularly on any active volcanic region but don’t always mean an eruption is imminent#if it did yellowstone would be insufferable constantly#anyway this is mostly me grumbling about expectations put on scientists that don’t actually work#lack of action or anything from the governments and officials however is absolutely an issue and something to change in the geosciences#acknowledge the discrepancies between demographics and the risk factors affecting them#counter them as best as possible#ie do not just leave native hawaiians or anyone else unable to afford plane tickets and whatnot as sitting ducks#call an evacuation should the flow encroach to a risk#then actively assist and make sure anyone who wants to/needs to evacuate has the means to do so#there isn’t much else anyone can do other than observe the flow and attempt loose predictions of its behavior#and call evacuations#unfortunately there’s no actual ways to stop lava from going where it wants

americans can also call 211 for information about local resources including food banks, bill pay assistance, and rental protections!! we've used it in the past and gotten truly wonderful help from food drives around us.
if you're on medicaid you most likely qualify for SNAP and, depending on your location, may qualify for free/reduced public transit costs!
something my mum always taught us was to look for the resources we're entitled to, and use them. public land? know your access rights and responsibilities, go there and exercise them. libraries? go there and talk to librarians and read community notice boards, find out what other people are doing around you, ask questions, use the printers. public records offices? go in there, learn what they hold and what you can access, look at old maps, get your full birth certificate copied, check out the census from your neighbourhood a hundred years ago. are you entitled to social support? find out, take it, use it. does the local art college have facilities open to the public? go in, look around, check out their exhibit on ancient looms or whatever, shop in their campus art supply store. it applies online too, there is so much shit in the world that belongs to the public commons that you can access and use if you just take a minute to wonder what might exist!!!

I met a girl when I was fresh out of high school in undergrad who frankly, annoyed me quite a bit, but I also had an inkling to continue to be compassionate to her given a few things about her life/background/family
I ran into her two years ago. Last week, her daughter turned 1. This girl, let’s called her “P”, is a really good example of why I never feel comfortable mocking trad wives
Her perfect trad husband, who was a shining young figure in the local religious community, volunteered in all sorts of groups, well loved in his workplace and everything else, beat her up at 1 month post-partum. I reached out to her after seeing her desperately asking for a stroller on a page, confused and slightly concerned knowing both of them came from wealthy backgrounds.
The reality for lots of tradwives living “perfect lives” is this: P was immediately ostracised. All the wealth of her husband and her family meant absolutely nothing if she wasn’t in favour and doing what she was told. Her child and her well-being didn’t matter. P, at 25 years old, was basically deemed an oopsie, and left on her own to figure out how to pay for herself, a baby, find housing, and every other task you can think of.
Having known many of these women (and supported many of these women), another factor most people don’t consider is this: they are intentionally raised to be helpless. When I immediately offered my support to P, she really needed it. This young woman needed to be guided through how to apply for government assistance, how to weigh up rentals and apply for them, how to apply for jobs, how to sign up for childcare. How to sign up for your own power and internet, and how to connect them.
It wasn’t that she was “stupid”, or incapable, or spoiled. While it looks like they’re being sheltered, in reality, these women are practically being held hostage. Sure, they might be allowed to learn things that are expected of them (see: basic cooking, baking, cleaning, child rearing, women’s bible studies, hosting, and so forth) but they are heavily controlled from family life into marriage life, and they are never given the opportunity or the reality of what many of us would consider basic adult tasks.
She’s doing okay now. Her daughter turned 1, is happy and healthy. They live frugally, but they have a roof over their heads and the essentials. I often babysit for her so she can attend counselling, or go to a woman’s support group. She is painfully aware that she has so much to learn about how to live as an adult.
I don’t envy tradwives, but I don’t find any joy in mocking them either. Even when they live the most picturesque lives, they’re also practically living a real life Jenga game. If (and often, when) it comes tumbling down, they’re screwed too, and they often have 0 skills to help themselves or find community (that again, isn’t carefully curated).
