pause to breathe
combination of two anon prompts: yapper reader who seeks out any of the boys and starts talking and then wonders if they find her terribly annoying and she thinks they must hate her combined with part two for Regulus x yapper!reader with the mooncalves
Regulus Black x fem!reader who updates him on the mooncalves [681 words]
p1 | p2
CW: yapper reader, longwinded speech and spiralling thoughts, run-on sentences, reader feels embarrassed
Pandora and Barty were currently busy procuring ingredients to brew truth potions for tonightâs veritaserum-or-dare, which meant that Regulus, Evan, and Dorcas were enjoying a rare quiet moment in the library.Â
âAll Iâm saying is that out of all the poltergeists Iâve summoned, Peeves really is the least of our worries.â Evan mentioned boredly, earning him a snort of laughter from Dorcas.
âRemember Mammon?â She asked in a hushed tone.
âHow could we forget?â Regulus responded. âHe had first years strung up by their feet from the ceiling trying to get the galleons to fall out of their pockets.âÂ
âIâm so glad Barty knows how to obliviate; that would have been a nightmare.â
âWe would have been expelled.â Dorcas pressed with a laugh, Evan simply nodded at her.
âLike I said, a nightmare.â
Regulus was saved from having to reply when he heard his name being called, albeit softly - this was the library, afterall.
âRegulus! Regulus, Regulus, Regulus.â You chanted your whole way over before sitting down heavily on the bench beside Regulus, breathless and nearly blowing the parchment right off the table from the speed at which you approached.
âIt worked! The beast treats from Brood & Peck worked!â
It took Regulusâ brain a few moments to work out what it was that you were talking about when he remembered his trip to Brood & Peck last week. He wondered then if he should ask you how it went, but you carried on before he could.
âIâm sure that maybe, perhaps, the apples were a help, seeing as theyâve grown somewhat accustomed to my presence. But they came right up to me last night! I even got to scritch the space between oneâs eyes! Have you ever pet a mooncalf, Regulus? Theyâre way softer than they look. Itâs almost like a cat except the fur is a touch longer and silkier. Have you ever pet a bunny? Sort of like a bunny, but with thinner and longer hairâŠlike a long-and-thin haired bunny. Oh! And! Last night among the mooncalves was one tiny kitten! Real little, too. I wonder if he got separated from his mama when I was feeding them tuna a few nights ago? None of the other cats were there again last night, just the little bubs. But it seems as though the mooncalves have adopted him! Oh, it was so cute! One was even grooming him! But I was so busy being excited about finally petting them and getting them to approach me that I forgot to take pictures. Maybe I can get pictures tonight? Hopefully the kitten is still there. Well, I guess it would actually be better if the kitten was with its mum, yeah? Maybe just one more night, just so I can get a picture, then hopefully he finds his mum again.âÂ
You paused, likely to breathe, and seemed only then to register the fact that Regulus hadnât been sitting at this table alone.
âOh.â You murmured quietly, moving your horrified gaze from Evan and Dorcas towards Regulus beside you, another âohâ escaping you when you seemed to realise how long you just spent shouting about mooncalves to Regulus Black in front of his friends.Â
âOh my gods.â You nearly whispered. âIâm so sorry. Merlin, this is so embarrassing; I am so embarrassing. Iâm so sorry!âÂ
Nearly as quick as you came did you stand and leave, fleeing from the library without even sparing a backwards glance at your potions partner.Â
âIâd be worried she doesnât get enough air to her head. Merlin.â Evan commented as he finally turned back towards the table from where heâd been watching you leave. âDo you think her brain works that quickly when she reads? She must finish books so fast.âÂ
Regulus simply smiled to himself as he packed up his notes and books.Â
âIâll catch up with you later, alright?â
âYeah, yeah. Whatever you say, Black.â Dorcas drawled teasingly as Regulus shouldered his book bag and exited the library, venturing off in the direction you had just moments before in hopes of finding out more about last nightâs mooncalves and their little kitten friend.

velvet lies
pairing: gojo x fem reader synopsis: crippling debt and possible evictions have ruined you. working two jobs with no downtime, and a five-year-old son, you really don't know the meaning of taking a break. after continuous questions about his father, you have decided to finally let your son meet his dad. only thing is, he has no idea said son exists. and to top it off, you have not a single clue about what kinds of things will transpire from this sudden revelation. wc: 8.2k tags/warnings: 18+ MDNI, smut, fluff, romance, alcohol, classism, mom! reader, lying, abuse, MAJOR angst, slow burn, exes to lovers, (mentions of) cheating, scandals, death, blood, drugs, drama, family drama, miscommunication, blackmail, unhealthy coping mechanisms , depression, manipulation series masterlist < previous chapter < next chapter
âYou look so handsome like thisâŠâ a sultry chuckle is followed by a warm kiss to the lips. The man with a receding hairline laughs in a slimy way, welcoming the woman into his lap. Arms settled around her midsection, indulging in her lips.Â
The moment is quickly shut down when an intruding voice cuts in. âHaruka! Some guy is waiting for you at the door.â
With a huff, she pulls back. Lip curled up into a scowl, turning her head over her shoulder to face the man at the top of the stairs. âTell âem Iâm busy, damn it!â She snarls out.Â
The man sighs and rubs his bald head. âI already did. He said he wants to speak to you, now hurry up here.â
When the door slams shut, she turns back to her customer. âIâll be back.â She smiles and kisses his wrinkly cheek before getting up and off his lap. She fixes her clothing, a simple tank top and shorts. Looking at the small mirror, she frowns and straightens down her hair. Sheâs reminded to dye her hair black again to cover up the incoming gray hairs that always greet her nowadays. She applies her usual red lick back to her skin, perking them up with a small pop noise. Her eyes, beady and dark, fixate back up at the door while her feet drag her.Â
Once sheâs up in the main portion of the building, she rounds a corner and sees a neatly suited man standing at the front desk. The man who called her attention before gives her a certain look before walking off and letting her deal with it. She smiles, leaning against the hardwood. âWhy, hello there, handsome. How may I help you today?â
The man, undeterred and stoic, regards her with barely any emotion. The dark sunglasses on his face obscuring his eyes and Harukaâs brow twitches for a moment in annoyance. She still keeps up her game, however. Resting her cheek against her palm. âWell? How can Iââ
âMs. Haruka, right?âÂ
The strangerâs voice is deep and defined, causing Harukaâs eyebrows to raise in interest. Her smile widens and she hums playfully. âAh, well depends on whoâs asking. If itâs you, then you can call me Candy.â She whispers the last part, leaning in like she told him a big secret; giggling to herself.Â
The man spares a brief glance down at his wristwatch. Haruka notices its pristine gold, oh how valuable. An idea is already forming in her head when she looks back at the manâs black, circular shades. But what he says next causes her body to go into a temporary state of comatose.Â
âAre you the mother of Y/N L/N? If so, please come with me. There are some things my bosses would like to discuss with you.â
Itâs the day after Christmas. You luckily got the day off and youâve just been lounging around your place with Koji. Eating some leftovers and cleaning up a bit, watching him rave about the new toys he got; itâs a pleasant sight. Satoru hasnât texted you anything today, and while youâre not holding him to that expectation, thereâs a part of you that worries heâs still angry. Or maybe even upset at the gift you got him. It probably brought up negative emotions for him. But it was a last minute thing and you assumed he would greatly appreciate it.Â
Maybe your assumption was wrong.Â
You shake off the thought, refusing to dwell on it. Satoru has always been hard to read, and overanalyzing his silence wonât do you any good. Instead, you focus on Koji, whoâs currently making his action figures reenact some elaborate battle scene on the coffee table. His laughter echoes through the room, bright and infectious, pulling a small smile from you.
âKoji, donât forget to put the smaller pieces back in the box when youâre done,â you remind him gently.
âOkay, Mama!â he chirps, not looking up from his imaginary world.
You take another bite of your leftovers, savoring the quiet domesticity of the moment. Itâs not often you get a day to just relax like this. Still, that nagging thought about Satoru lingers in the back of your mind, no matter how much you try to ignore it. Your fingers reach up, feeling for the star pendant Suguru got you. Smiling to yourself as your fingertips graze over the metal. Youâre suddenly reminded of the fact that you havenât thanked him.Â
You grab your phone, thumb hovering over his contact. Itâs a small debate to call or text him, unsure of which is moreâŠappropriate. Maybe heâs busy or maybe he wouldnât mind a phone call at this time. You bite your lip, inhaling deeply then letting it go, deciding that your gratitude would feel more authentic if he actually heard you say it.Â
You click the call button and within the second ring, his voice lightens up the other end. âHello?â
You clear your throat before speaking. âHey, Suguru,â you say softly, twirling the pendant between your fingers. âI hope Iâm not interrupting anything.â
âNot at all,â he replies warmly, a hint of curiosity in his tone. âWhatâs up?â
As you pause for a moment, your thoughts are being gathered. âI just wanted to thank you⊠for the gift. The pendant, itâs beautiful.â Your voice dips slightly, the sincerity in your words undeniable. âYou didnât have to, but⊠it means a lot to me.â
Thereâs a brief silence on his end before he chuckles softly. âIâm glad you like it. I figured itâd suit you.â
You canât help but smile, your fingers still tracing the small, intricate patterns on the pendant. âIt does. Koji said it makes me look pretty.â
Suguru laughs at that, the sound soft and familiar. âHeâs not wrong. The kidâs got good taste.â
A small heat pools in your stomach, cheeks blushing a bit. When you glance over at Koji, you notice just how engrossed he still is in his action figures. âHeâs been talking about that Spider-Man you got him nonstop. He even took it to bed with him last night.â
âReally? Thatâs adorable,â Suguru comments, his tone light but carrying an underlying fondness. âIâm glad he liked it. Heâs a great kid.â
âHe is,â you agree, your voice softening. âIâm lucky to have him.â
Thereâs a pause, the silence between you both comfortable yet loaded with things left unsaid. Finally, Suguru breaks it. âHow are you doing? After last night, I mean. Satoru told me he was going over.â
The question catches you off guard, and for a moment, youâre unsure how to answer. âIâm⊠okay,â you eventually get out, though it feels like a half-truth. âIt was just⊠a lot. But we did it. For Koji.âÂ
He hums from the other side. âYeah, thatâs good. I figured.â A moment of pause before he continues. âSatoru can be⊠intense, especially when it comes to you and Koji.â
You let out a small, humorless laugh. âThatâs one way to put it.â
âBut other than that, it was good?â
âYeah, I think so.â
He smiles. âIâm glad, you two deserve a good Christmas.â
With one hand, you bring your dirty dishes to the sink, the other keeping your phone to your ear. âWhat about you? Was yours good too?â
Suguruïżœïżœïżœs voice sighs wistfully. âIt was, yeah. My team and I spent it handing out some gifts and hot chocolate to the kids. Seeing their faces light up with joy like that, it makes you feel really good, you know?â
Your heart warms at his words, picturing Suguru in his elementâkind, compassionate, always thinking of others. Youâre reminded back to the time you saw him that day with Koji. âThat sounds wonderful,â you speak softly, leaning against the counter. âYouâre really amazing for doing that, Suguru. Those kids are lucky to have someone like you.â
He chuckles modestly, the sound low and comforting. âI donât know about amazing, but thanks. Itâs just something small I can do. Makes the holidays feel more meaningful.â
You smile, twirling the pendant again as you consider his words. âItâs more than small. Itâs thoughtful. Itâs... you.â The words slip out before you can stop them, and you feel your cheeks flush immediately. Embarrassment floods your insides.Â
Thereâs a brief silence on his end, followed by a soft laugh. âYouâre too kind. But coming from you, Iâll take it as a high compliment.â
You shake your head, grinning despite yourself. âItâs not kindness. Itâs the truth.â Â
Kojiâs excited shout from the living room snaps you back to the moment. Heâs discovered a new pose for his Spider-Man, proudly showing it off as he runs over. âMama, look!â Â
Suguru must hear the commotion, his tone lightening further. âSounds like someoneâs having a good time.â Â
âHe is,â you say, watching Kojiâs eyes sparkle with joy. You nod in astonishment. When your son is satisfied with your praise, he rushes back to the coffee table. âHeâs been nonstop since yesterday. I think this Spider-Man might be his new best friend.â Â
âThen my mission was a success,â Suguru replies with a chuckle. âIâll have to find something to top it next year.â Â
You bite the inside of your cheek while his words bring a pang of guilt. Itâs strange; how easy it is to talk to Suguru, how natural it feels to share these moments. And yet, thereâs a part of you that wonders if youâre leaning on him too much, especially with everything unresolved with Satoru. You wonder if what youâre doing is wrong, and considering Satoruâs reaction to his friendâs gift to you, you feel like youâre almostâŠbetraying Satoru.Â
âThank you again, Suguru,â you repeat, your voice calmer now. âFor everything. You didnât have to go out of your way for us, but you did, and it means a lot.â Â
âYou donât have to thank me,â he says gently. âYou and Koji... you guys are important to me too, you know?â Â
The weight of his words settles over you, warm and steady. âThat means a lot to me too.â Â
Thereâs another comfortable pause before Suguru clears his throat. âWell, I should let you get back to your day. Iâm glad you called, though. Donât be a stranger, okay?â Â
âOkay,â you promise, a small smile tugging at your lips. âTake care, Suguru.â Â
âYou too,â he says, his voice lingering for a moment before the call ends. Â
As you set your phone down, you glance at Koji, whoâs now back to his world of action figures. You canât help but feel grateful for the people in your life now who care so deeply about you and your son. Â
But even with that gratitude, your thoughts drift back to Satoru, the press, his parents. And you ponder over the idea of what heâs doing right now, whether heâs holding onto the photograph, if he set it up somewhere; and what it might mean for the three of you moving forward.
Thereâs no time to start drowning in your thoughts any longer. Youâve already done that yesterday and practically every other day before that. A bigger question has been gnawing at you, and now that you have some free time, you figure you should look into it now. Grabbing your laptop, turning it on and clicking on Google once the screen awakens. The small business card is placed to your right as you type away the company name in the search bar.Â
You click on the first link.Â
It takes you to an entire directory of the services of Carlisle & Harlow.Â
The website loads quickly, its sleek design showcasing high-end properties and exclusive services. The polished images of luxurious estates, private jets, and lavish vacation homes scroll past as you navigate through the various tabs. The site is clearly designed to appeal to an elite audienceâevery detail is immaculate. You skim through the different services offered, including property management, concierge arrangements, personal assistants, and lifestyle coaching. It all feels a bit too polished, almost like an invitation into a world youâve only ever seen from the outside.
You feel a slight unease in your stomach. Your mind races back to the business card Evelyn gave youâone that seemed so out of place given everything else youâve seen in your life. You click through to the âAbout Usâ section, hoping to find more answers about what the company actually does or who else is behind it.Â
The page provides a brief history, detailing the companyâs founding by the woman, Evelyn Carlisle and her now deceased husband, Noah Harlowâboth of whom have since made a name for themselves in the luxury service industry.Â
You click on the âOur Teamâ link. Several executives are listed, each with brief bios that read like glowing resumes. Next, you click on the âContact Usâ tab, staring at the address listedâan upscale location in the cityâs financial district. Itâs the kind of place where secrets are hidden behind high walls and the name on the door probably has a lot of power behind it.
Taking a deep breath, you mull over this instance. Maybe itâs time to investigate further, but youâre not sure how much deeper you want to digâespecially not without some sort of plan. But that Evelyn woman seemed a little strange to you. Itâs just the fact that everything felt quite planned out to you, like someone told her to come to your workplace and offer a job interview. Your intuition has always been right and ever since you became a mother, that increased tenfold. But, this seems like it might have more of a good outcome than a bad one.Â
You wouldnât have to maintain the hard balance of working two jobs and a child. As you continue scrolling and clicking on multiple tabs within the website, one catches your interest.Â
âAbout Our Foundersâ
Youâre met with pictures of Evelyn and her husband, posing with what you can only assume are other businesspeople, with paragraphs of their background to go along with it. Nothing looks out of the ordinary so far, until a particular picture.Â
Itâs Evelyn and her husband. Posing with Satoru and his father.Â
Your heart stops for a moment, your breath catching in your throat as you stare at the screen. The four of them are dressed impeccably, their expressions polished with smiles that feel carefully rehearsed. The caption beneath the photo reads:Â Â
âCelebrating five years of partnership between Carlisle & Harlow and the Gojo Group, fostering innovation and excellence in high-end luxury services.â
Your stomach churns. The idea of Satoru or his family being involved in this job offer. And it almost makes sense nowâEvelyn showing up at your workplace, the too-perfect job offer, the strange sense of everything being orchestrated. It wasnât a coincidence. It couldnât be. Unless it is?
Your fingers hover over the trackpad, trembling slightly as you click on the bio beneath Evelynâs photo. Her background is as pristine as expected: Ivy League education, years of experience in luxury branding, and a reputation for impeccable taste. But itâs the section about her connections that catches your eye:Â Â
"Evelyn Carlisle maintains close ties with prominent families, including the Gojo family, and has been instrumental in crafting tailored solutions for their elite clientele."
Your head spins. This isnât just a job opportunityâitâs a calculated move. But why? Why now? And why through Evelyn instead of directly from Satoru or his family? You glance back at the business card on your table, its gold lettering gleaming in the soft light. It feels heavier now, like itâs carrying the weight of unseen motives. Â
Kojiâs laughter breaks through your swirling thoughts, grounding you momentarily. You look over at him, playing so innocently, so unaware of the tangled web youâre beginning to unravel. Taking a deep breath, you close the laptop and sit back. Whatever this is, itâs not just about you anymore. If Evelynâs offer is part of some larger scheme, youâll need to figure out the truth before you make any decisions. Â
Maybe youâre overthinking this. The Gojo Group is huge and very obviously powerful, of course, they would have ties with Carlisle & Harlow. Itâs not that far-fetched, right? Itâs just a job opportunity, donât think too much into it.Â
Itâs around the next day at work now. Walking to the cafĂ©, phone in hand. Rereading Satoruâs first text to you since you last saw him, itâs not entirely underwhelming, you just hoped that he would have expressed his gratitude for your gift.Â
Satoru:
Koji left his jacket here from last time, Iâll bring it over today
Your lips purse, thumbs going haywire over the bright screen. Should you ask if he enjoyed the gift? If he even opened it in the first place? Or maybe youâre dragging this out far too much. With a deep breath, entering the cafe, you type back:
You:
I thought you had work todayÂ
Satoruâs response comes almost immediately, as if he was waiting for you to text back.
Satoru:
I do, but I can swing by during lunch. The place is a little far from me, can I come to your job and drop it off?
You hesitate, wanting to type back a ïżœïżœnoâ as soon as he asked. It would feel a little weird if he came. Satoru and your workplace just donât seem to mixâand you donât want them to. If he came, it would only further solidify the fact that heâs integrating himself into your life. Again, youâre probably overthinking things, heâs just dropping off your sonâs jacket. But the thought of seeing him right now feels oddly nerve-inducing.Â
You:
Sure, Iâm on lunch at 12
When you drop the pin of the cafĂ©âs address, you pocket your phone and set your stuff down, tying the apron around your waist. Hana, on her phone texting, barely looks up when you enter. Itâs becoming a bit more repetitive nowadays. Patting down the apron, you speak up. âStill talking to that Naoya guy?â
She hums and nods, giggling at something that was messaged before swiftly typing back a response. Your lips purse, brows knitting at her lack of acknowledgment for you. This guy must really be entrancing her. âHe said he was coming today.â
âOh, really?â You ask, offering a small smile. âIâll finally meet the lucky guy.â
Hanaâs eyes flick up at you briefly before returning to her phone, her cheeks slightly flushed. âHm? Oh, yeah. but donât embarrass me, okay?â Â
You let out a soft laugh, shaking your head as you grab a few boxes to refill the supplies up front behind the counter, cutting them open. âIâll try not to. Just donât expect me to be on my best behavior if heâs rude.â Â
She scoffs, though her grin betrays her amusement. âHeâs not rude. Youâll like him, I think. Heâs⊠different.â Â
You arch a brow, intrigued by her tone. âDifferent, huh? Guess weâll see.â Â
Hana waves you off, clearly too engrossed in her conversation to elaborate further. Â
And so, the morning drags on, and you canât help but notice Hana glancing at the door every few minutes, a mix of anticipation and nerves written all over her face. Meanwhile, you busy yourself with the usual flow of customers, though your own nerves begin to creep in as the clock inches closer to noon. Â
When the bell above the cafĂ© door finally chimes, you glance up instinctively. A tall man with sharp features and an air of confidence steps in, scanning the room briefly before his gaze lands on Hana. His hair is slicked back neatly, and heâs dressed in a tailored coat that screams wealth and status. The tips of his hair dipped black, his eyes are so cat-like that it almost freaks you out at first. Â
Hanaâs face lights up as she quickly puts the cleaning supplies that were in her hands down and waves him over. âNaoya!â Â
He strides over, a smirk tugging at his lips as he leans in to greet her with a kiss on the cheek. âHana,â he says smoothly, his voice low and self-assured.Â
Your eyebrows raise at the blatant show of affection in front of not just youâbut the rest of the customers. Itâs slightly unlike Hana because you remember her telling you how much she despised PDA. Maybe Naoya is making her come out of her shell. Thatâs good, right? You watch the interaction from behind the counter, your initial impression of him forming almost immediately. Thereâs something about his demeanorâcharming, yes, but also a little too smug for your liking. Your senses are telling you to be subtly on guard around this man.Â
Hana glances over at you, her smile widening. âNaoya, this is my coworkerââ Â
âFriend,â you correct with a playful smile, giving her a tiny look. Itâs strange how she was just going to introduce you as a coworker when she always calls you her friend. Not thinking too much of it, you step out from behind the counter to extend a hand. âNice to meet you, Naoya. Iâm Y/N.â
He takes your hand, his grip firm but calculated. His eyes flicker over you briefly, as if sizing you up. If possible, his grin widens, eyes growing more crescent-like. âPleasureâs mine,â he says, though the smirk on his face doesnât quite reach his eyes. Â
âSo, youâre the one whoâs been keeping Hana so distracted lately,â you remark lightly, folding your arms. Â
Naoya chuckles, his gaze shifting back to Hana. âSheâs easy to talk to. Hard not to get distracted by her.â Â
Hana blushes, clearly pleased by the compliment, but you canât shake the nagging feeling that thereâs something a little⊠off about him. âWell,â you say, forcing a polite smile, âwelcome to our humble abode. Let me know if you need anything.â Â
Naoya nods, his smirk unwavering. âWill do.â Â
As you step back behind the counter, you catch Hana giving you a warning glance, silently begging you not to say anything more. You just shrug, grabbing the rag Hana previously discarded to wipe down the counter, though you canât help but keep an ear on their conversation. They convert over to a booth in the corner, seemingly for some privacy.Â
Something about Naoya sets your instincts on edge. Maybe itâs the way he carries himself, or the way his smile feels more like a performance than genuine warmth. Heâs reminding you of Satoru, just more insidious. Itâs probably a little rude of you to have such a critical judgment of the man whoâs making your friend swoon, but isnât that what friends, do? Making sure the men or women that come into their lives are worthy of it? Whatever it is, you make a mental note to keep an eye on himâif only for Hanaâs sake. Â
You stop eavesdropping. Hanaâs a grown woman, if anything, she knows whatâs more right for her than you do. Besides, youâre one of the only ones working right now, so itâs better to focus on delivering customer service than ensuring the man in the corner (who has been keenly drifting his eyes towards your figure) is good enough for Hana. Hana, oblivious to your discomfort, continues chatting with Naoya, her smile wide as she laughs at something he says. Her back is turned to you, and all you can do is concentrate on the rising sense of unease in your gut. Itâs the way Naoyaâs posture remains open and confident, but thereâs a hardness behind his eyes that doesnât sit right with you. He seems like someone who expects to get what he wants, and the thought of him using his charm to manipulate Hana makes you clench your fists beneath the counter. Youâre just trying to understand the strange energy he brings into the environment. Maybe itâs your overactive imagination, but you still canât shake the perception that thereâs more to this man than Hana is seeing.
As you refocus on your tasks, you can physically feel the weight of Naoyaâs gaze lingering on you. Itâs subtle, but unsettlingïżœïżœïżœlike heâs paying more attention to you than he is Hana. You shake it off, putting your mind into the register as a customer walks up to place an order. However, the uneasy feeling stays with you. You move through the motions of your shift. Every time you briefly glance over to the booth, his gaze is drawn to you. Not in the way youâd expect a person to look at someone theyâve just met, but with something more calculating. Itâs almost as if heâs analyzing you, but why?
You donât even know how long it has been, at least 15 orders later, when the two walk back up to the front. Hana grabs your attention. âY/N, Naoya brought up a really good idea. His friend owns that new bar I was telling you about a few weeks ago! Do you want to go out tomorrow after your other job?â
You glance up, a bit surprised by the invitation. Itâs not like you havenât been out with Hana before, but something about tonight feels odd. Maybe itâs Naoyaâs presence, or maybe itâs the weird sense of being observed earlier. Still, itâs a chance to unwind, and Hana seems genuinely excited.
You give a soft smile, though it feels a little strained. âI donât know, Hana. Iâve got a lot on my plate. Plus, Iâm not sure about the bar idea... not really in the mood for crowds.â
Her eyes widen, and she steps closer, lowering her voice. âCome on, you deserve a break. Youâve been working so hard lately. Itâll be fun, I promise.â
You meet her eyes, trying to gauge her sincerity. Sheâs always been good at getting you to loosen up when you're feeling overwhelmed. Maybe it wouldnât hurt to go for just a little while, but you still have reservations about Naoya. âAlright, Iâll think about it. Iâll see if I can get out earlier,â you say, trying to keep your tone light. âBut no promises.â
Hanaâs face lights up. âYay! I knew youâd come around.â She looks over her shoulder at Naoya, whoâs standing a few feet away, reading the two of you with an unreadable expression.Â
You suddenly feel like this moment might be the start of something unpredictable. As much as you want to just go with the flow for Hana, a part of you ponders if thereâs more to Naoyaâs invitation than just a night out. But, for now, you push the thought aside.
âWell, you donât want to miss out,â Naoya speaks up, chuckling to himself. âJust try. Itâs called No Manâs Land. Iâll be there around 10:30 tomorrow night, hopefully I'll see you both there.â
You nod slowly, still hesitant about the whole thing. Something about the way Naoya phrased itâso casual, so sure of himselfârubs you the wrong way. Thereâs an underlying expectation in his words like heâs already decided that youâll both show up. Youâre not sure if itâs just his personality or something more, but the thought of him controlling the situation leaves you with a strange feeling. Hana, though, looks delighted. âItâll be so much fun, Y/N. Just relax. A drink or two wonât hurt.â She flashes you a grin before turning back to Naoya, all smiles as she talks about what theyâll do at the bar.
Youâre like an outsider, watching as Hana becomes more entangled in Naoyaâs charm. You wonder if she sees it tooâthe little things about him that donât add up. The way he already seems like the type of man to be just one step ahead with a plan. But sheâs excited, so you donât want to rain on her parade. Besides, you can always back out later if it doesnât feel right.
Luckily, she sees him out right after.Â
And unluckily, youâre waiting outside on your break for Satoru sooner rather than later.Â
You glance at your phone once more, watching the minutes tick by. Your break feels longer than it should, and the anticipation of seeing Satoru again only adds to the anxiety thatâs been building ever since your last interaction. You tell yourself itâs just a quick exchangeâKojiâs jacket, nothing more. But every moment feels charged as if something is on the verge of shifting.
The cool air outside offers a bit of relief, though the tension in your chest doesnât quite let up. You stand near the corner of the cafĂ©, eyes scanning the street for any sign of him. The sound of footsteps approaches, and you turn, only to find Satoru strolling toward you with his usual carefree aura.
âHey,â he greets, his tone light, but thereâs something different about the way his eyes stay on youâsomething that feels almost too familiar. He holds out the jacket. âKojiâs jacket. Didnât want to leave him without it.â
You take the jacket from him, the weight of it making you more aware of the subtle intimacy of the moment. âThanks,â you say, trying to keep your voice steady. âI appreciate it.â
He doesnât say anything immediately, just watches you for a beat too long. You shift on your feet, suddenly feeling acutely aware of the silence hanging between you.
âIs that all?â you ask, hoping the question doesnât come off too abrupt.
Satoru tilts his head as if considering something. âWhat do you mean?â
God, you hate it when he plays stupid like this. It forces you to be outright with what you want to say. Standing up straighter, chin tilting high. âI meanâŠlikeâwell I guess what Iâm trying to say is thatâŠdid you openâŠthe gift I gave you?â
Satoruâs gaze shifts slightly, his usual simmering confidence faltering just enough to make you second-guess yourself. He pauses like heâs weighing your question more carefully than he typically would. For a moment, you wonder if youâve oversteppedâif youâve asked something too personal or too vulnerable. The silence stretches between you like a taut wire.
âYour gift?â he finally says, the corner of his mouth lifting just a bit. He sounds almost amused, but thereâs a hint of something else in his voice, something you canât quite pin down.
You feel a wave of heat rise in your cheeks, but you stand your ground. âYeah. The one I gave you on Christmas.â The words feel clumsy as they leave your mouth, but you canât take them back now.
Satoruâs expression shifts, the air tensing slightly. âI did,â he says simply, as though itâs nothing. âIt was⊠nice.â
You want to push him further, to demand more of a response, but something about the way he says it makes you hesitate. Is that all? You want to ask again. Was it just âniceâ? Thatâs all? After everythingâthe thought you put into the gift, the small but meaningful gestureâyou wonder if maybe it didnât even register with him the way it did with you. Maybe you were right, he didnât even open it and is now coming up with a bullshit response because you put him on blast.Â
But you donât want to push too hard. You already feel like youâre treading on delicate ground. So you force yourself to smile, even though it feels a little stiff. âWell, Iâm glad you liked it,â you reply, not entirely sure if you believe your own words.
Thereâs another beat of silence, and then Satoru shifts his weight slightly, signalling that heâs about to leave. âI should get going. Got some things to take care of,â he says, but he doesnât immediately turn away.
Instead, his eyes flicker down to your hands, where youâre still holding Kojiâs jacket. âTake care of yourself,â he adds, his tone softening just a bit.
You nod, trying to hide the strange pang in your chest. âYou too,â you reply, though your voice is quieter now.
His lips thin into an awkward smile. Itâs one you give a stranger or someone you barely knowâbut thatâs how things feel between you now, isnât it? Itâs really not worth dwelling over the tiny things that further more prove the horrid line of connection between you two. But for some reason, it still hurts and picks at your heart.Â
That moment is quickly splashed away when a familiarâbut teeth-gritting voice squeals from behind Satoru. Your grip tightens on Kojiâs jacket. Satoruâs shoulders tense up.Â
âSatoru! Whyâd you leave me in that boutique? It took forever to find you!â
She appears next to Satoru, her presence immediate and unmistakable. Her eyes flicker between you and Satoru with a mix of scrutiny and something else that you canât quite place. Sheâs dressed in something designer, as usual, with that polished, effortless look that screams of wealth and status. Her gaze lingers on you for a moment longer than necessary, a quiet challenge in her eyes.
You feel a knot twist in your stomach, an all-too-familiar sense of discomfort settling into your chest. Satoruâs gaze meets yours for just a moment before he shifts his attention to Himari. âSorry, didnât mean to leave you hanging,â he says, his tone light but lacking its usual warmth.
Himari, not seeming to notice or care about the tension in the air, flashes you a tight-lipped smile that screams fake. âOh, well look who it is. The leech.â
âHimari.â Satoru gruffs under his breath, giving his girlfriend a dirty side-eye.Â
âWhat? One minute we're spending the day together and the next youâre here withâŠher.â
Your jaw clenches, noticing the tug Satoru gives the other woman to the back of her dress, lowly whispering something into her ear. But her facial expression doesnât deter, and neither does her snaky persona.Â
âI thought you had work.â You utter, eyes flickering back to Satoru.Â
His brows tighten, huffing out an exasperated breath. Before he can respond, she does it for him. âIf you consider being by my side and treating all my needs work, then yeah, he is working.â She giggles at her own joke, making a show of turning his head towards her and plopping a kiss on his pink lips. It lasts only a few seconds before he pulls away.Â
But even those few seconds feel like a lifetime.
You feel the bite of Himariâs words, even if theyâre clearly meant to dig into you. The word âleechâ still stings, even though you know itâs not intended for anything other than a cruel jab. Satoruâs response, or lack thereof, makes the situation all the more uncomfortable. His eyes flick to you for a brief second before turning back to Himari, his expression more quiet and guarded
One question sounds throughout your brain. Why are you even with her?
You stand there, the tension heavy in the air between the three of you, white-knuckling onto Kojiâs jacket, as if it could anchor you through this awkward, uncomfortable moment. Himariâs gaze holds yours for a moment longer like sheâs trying to read you, trying to see if you'll react. You want to say something, anything, but you can feel the weight of the situation hanging on your tongue, making it hard to even speak.
Satoru looks between the two of you, his jaw tightening slightly. "Let's go," he mutters, more to Himari than to you, though you can tell heâs trying to smooth things over. Himari, however, isnât having it. She steps forward, a small smirk on her face as she eyes you again.Â
âSo,â she starts, her voice dripping with sarcasm, âyou two still playing catch-up or is it âout of sight, out of mindâ now?âÂ
Her clipped tone is pointed, deliberately meant to prod, and the weight of them sinks inâher intent clear. Satoru doesnât reply, simply glancing at you with a silent apology in his eyesâif you can even call it that. You want to scoff at his lousiness. Itâs clear sheâs trying to assert her dominance in the situation, but youâre not sure whether itâs her trying to put you in your place or if itâs something else entirely.
You force a tight smile, the words you're looking for escaping you. âNo need to worry,â you manage to say, the words barely leaving your lips as you turn to look at Satoru one last time. âIâm sure you both have things to do. Iâll get back to work.â
Satoru doesnât protest, and Himari just gives you another dismissive glance. "Whatever," she mutters under her breath, but you catch the taunt in her voice. She might be playing it off, but you sense otherwise.Â
As they walk away, the weight of the encounter lingers in the air around you. You stand frozen for a moment, the jacket still in your hands, and thenâalmost instinctivelyâyou turn on your heel and head back inside the cafĂ©. Your heart still pounds in your chest, the sting of Himariâs words lingering long after theyâve both left.
You donât even know what hurts moreâthe fact that Satoruâs dismissive attitude didnât change, Himariâs words somehow managed to rattle you more than you care to admit, or the fact that he barelyâŠstood up for you. It is selfish to at least hold him to a certain degreeâa degree where he has the decency to protect you from the cruel shit his now girlfriend so nonchalantly delivers towards you? Maybe how he acted during that first unexpected encounter was all for show.
And of course, the pain in your chest feels more like a slow burn now, another brutalâunwanted reminder that things between you and Satoru, whatever they wereâŠare long gone.
An Izakaya of this caliber is something Haruka would have only dreamed of sitting in. Warm lighting is stationed above them, inside their own private room while she drinks away and awayâsolely because the people before her are buying. There are dishes of food scattered around, some picked from and others havenât been touched yet. âYou know, I really appreciate you spoiling me for the past two days, itâs nicer than any man has ever treated me.âÂ
She laughs to herself, casually leaning back on her palms, holding her pitcher of beer back up to her lips and sipping like a madman. Emi and Kenji Nakamura regard the woman with equally disgusted faces. Beside them is their personal lawyer.Â
âSo,â Haruka starts, burping and leaning forward once more. âWhatâs this all about my precious daughter, huh?â Her lip quirks up in a sneer at the reminder of the child she had and practically threw to the wolves. âIs she acting up again? Sheâs always been a little troublemaker.â
âIâm sure youâve seen the articles, yes?â Kenjiâs firm voice replies. âInvolving your daughter, Satoru Gojo, and their son.â
She chokes on her spit. âWhat?! Son?! No, I havenât seen anything! Iâm a free spirit and I donât believe in social media, itâs the devilâs play!â
The couple show no further emotion to her outburst.Â
Harukaâs face contorts with an expression of disbelief as she wipes her mouth hastily with the back of her hand, trying to regain some composure. The news about Satoru Gojo and her daughter having a child seems to rattle her more than anything else. She leans back again, almost toppling over from the force of her sudden shift in posture, eyes wild. âIâwhat do you mean, son?â Her voice cracks, and she shoots a glance at Emi and Kenji, her eyes narrowing. âAre you telling me that boy⊠and my daughter? They have a child?!â
Kenjiâs lips curl into a slight frown, his eyes cold. âYes, it seems your daughter has kept things a secret for years. The media and everyone else have only just found out.â
Harukaâs eyes flash with something venomous, but she quickly masks it with a laugh, the sound forced and hollow. âAh, what a little dirty sneak. And, please. You know Iâm not interested in all that family nonsense. And that son? How could they even think of bringing a kid into their⊠situation?â Her head shakes as she scoffs at the thought of you bearing a child of your own. And especially withâŠhim.Â
âYou may not understand now,â Kenji mutters darkly, before leaning in slightly. âBut I think itâs time you start paying attention. Because this situation concerns you more than you realize.â
Harukaâs face twitches, the words hitting her harder than she wants to admit. The weight of the sudden revelation was heavy. She glances down at her beer, swirling it absentmindedly, her mind clearly racing with thoughts she doesnât want to process. âYouâre telling me my daughter has a son with him?â she scoffs, shaking her head. âThatâs rich. Really rich.â Her tone is bitter, but the realization of the reality around her seems to slowly sink in, and she takes another long sip from her pitcher to steady herself. âSheâs such a goddamn fool, I almost feel bad for her. I provided a lot for her, you know? Then she threw it all away.â
Kenji and Emi watch on in disinterest. The lawyer beside them brings out a formal sheet of paper. âWeâd like to offer you a deal, Ms. L/N,â Kenji states.Â
Haruka looks back up, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. Harukaâs eyes narrow, expression shifting from one of indifference to one of calculated curiosity. She shifts in place, wiping her mouth once more with the back of her palm. âA deal? What kind of deal?â she asks, her voice carrying a note of skepticism, but there's a flicker of interest behind her gaze. She leans in slightly, one hand still gripping the pitcher of beer as she lowers it to the table now.
âYou see,â Emi starts. âOur only childâour precious daughter is dating Satoru. She probably felt the most disgruntled in this situation out of everyone else. With the suddenness, we fear that everything we have worked for will be put to waste.â
âAnd with the news of your daughterâs involvement with Satoru Gojo, it has thrown things into disarray for us. What we need is to ensure that this situation doesnât jeopardize our familyâs legacyâboth our reputation and, more importantly, our fortune.â Kenji finishes.Â
Haruka snorts softly. âI see. So, youâre telling me this little bastard of hers is a problem for you too? What does that have to do with me?â Her words come out sharper than she intends, but she quickly masks it with another bitter laugh.
Emiâs cold gaze sharpens, a glint of something unspoken flickering behind her eyes. âEverything, Haruka. Your daughterâs ties to Satoru Gojo are a direct threat to the familyâs interests. And with a child in the picture now⊠it complicates things further. But weâve come to a solution, one that involves youâif youâre willing to cooperate.â
Haruka tilts her head, eyes narrowing as she watches the lawyer slide the formal paper across the table toward her. The ink on it is neat, but her eyes flick over it quickly, scanning the contents before she lets out a quiet scoff. âWhat is this? Some kind of bribe?â
The lawyer, keeping a neutral expression, nods. âItâs an agreement that ensures your cooperation in smoothing over this⊠situation. If you agree, your involvement will not only secure your own future, but it will also protect the financial interests of both families. In exchange, youâll receive a position of influence, a stake in the inheritance.â
Harukaâs laughter rings out again, more amused. âInfluence? A stake? Do you think Iâm some desperate fool whoâll fall for your little schemes? I donât need your money. I have enough desperate fools willing to give me that already.â She sneers at the paper but then pauses, looking at Kenji and Emi, the weight of their gaze pressing down on her.
She takes another sip from her pitcher, her mind whirling as she weighs her options. A part of her wants to lash out, to dismiss them and their offer completely. But thereâs something about the way theyâre looking at her, something cold and calculating that makes her pause. The truth is, sheâs always been a gambler, and she knows when to fold and when to play her hand. âYou really think this is gonna work out?â she says, her voice quieter now, but still filled with an edge of disbelief. âThis⊠deal?â She hesitates, eyes flicking over the paper again, the signature line staring her down. âWhat exactly are you asking of me?â
Emi leans forward slightly, her posture unyielding. âWe need you to leverage your relationship with your daughter. Influence her decisions, guide her actionsâanything you can to help steer her away from Satoru. We want to ensure that the child and his existence donât affect our plans. In return, we offer you protection, money, and a place at the table. Itâs a mutually beneficial arrangement.â
Kenji watches her closely, his expression hard, but thereâs a glimmer of expectation in his eyes.
Harukaâs mind races, her fingers idly tracing the rim of her beer glass as she processes the offer laid out before her. The temptation of power, of influence, is hard to ignore, even for someone who prides herself on being a free spirit. But sheâs also no fool. She knows this is a high-stakes gameâone where the risks outweigh the rewards if she misplays her cards. And the amount of 0âs sheâs staring down at is inexplicably thrilling. Sheâs already imagining what she can buy with it.Â
For a long moment, the room is silent, the tension thick. Emi and Kenji both stare at her intently, their eyes cold and calculating, watching her every move. The lawyer remains as neutral as ever, the formality of his expression only adding to the weight of the situation.
Haruka's lips curl into a smirk, the edges of her mouth twitching slightly as she leans back in her chair. âLeverage my relationship with my daughter, huh? You really think I can do that?â Her voice is laced with a mix of amusement and disdain. âYou must think Iâm a puppet master or something. But Iâm not interested in some petty manipulation games.â
Kenjiâs eyes flash for a brief second, a flicker of something darker crossing his features. "You know the consequences of doing nothing. Youâve been avoiding your daughter long enough, Haruka. But sheâs not the same girl anymore. She's tied to Satoru Gojo now, and that complicates things. We need you to make sure she doesnât forget her place. The familyâs future is on the line."
Harukaâs hand freezes in mid-air, her gaze locking with Kenji's. She can feel the weight of her daughterâs past mistakes bearing down on her, the consequences that could affect everything sheâs tried to distance herself from. Her jaw ticks, her eye twitching. What a stupid little girl, I tried warning you, didnât I? âI donât care about your legacy or your fortune,â Haruka mutters, her tone turning colder, sharper. âBut Iâm not stupid. I can see what youâre offering me.â Her fingers curl around the edges of the paper, her nails digging into the surface. âI have one question for you, though. What happens if I refuse?â
Emi doesnât blink, her gaze unflinching as she answers. âIf you refuse, Haruka, youâll be left in the same position youâve always beenâirrelevant. Your daughterâs problems will escalate, and your connections, your influence, will be stay meaningless. You will never succeed and youâll lose the tiniest amount of leverage you have. Youâll watch as everything youâve ever taken for granted crumbles.â She pauses, the words hanging in the air. âBut if you cooperate, we can guarantee your future. Your daughterâs involvement with Gojo doesnât need to ruin you.â
Harukaâs eyes flick over the paper again, the signature line now feeling like an anchor, pulling her down into a world of obligations and consequences. She takes a deep breath, feeling the familiar rush of excitement that always comes when sheâs faced with a gamble. Itâs the thrill of uncertainty, the pull of what could be hers if she plays her cards right. Her bottom lip is worried between her teeth.Â
âSo, what youâre saying is... Iâm supposed to ruin my own daughterâs happiness for the sake of your precious familyâs legacy,â Haruka says, her voice low, almost contemplative. She stares at the paper one more time before meeting Emiâs gaze. "Fine. Youâve made your offer. But just so you know, Iâm no one's pawn. Iâll make this work for me too. Youâre not the only ones with something to gain."
Emi gives a small, satisfied nod, and Kenjiâs lips tighten, but thereâs a small shift in his demeanorâone that signals the deal has been struck. "Good," Kenji replies, his voice firm. "Weâre glad we could come to an agreement. We will contact you if necessary and when your action is needed.â
Haruka, for the first time, sets the pitcher of beer down, her fingers now gently grasping the edge of the paper. She grins maniacally and signs it with a flourish. The ink is dark and permanent, sealing the agreement.
With the ink dry, she sits back, a smirk curling on her lips. âThis will be fun.â

"Sarah!" you shout, "get your ass out here you looser!"
It's probably eight in the morning, and here you are, honking and shouting in the middle of the quiet calm suburbs.
When you spot her curly head running towards you in a rush, you know she's pissed.
"Stop screaming!" she shouts back, "my neighbours will hate me"
You've known Sarah since you were kids. When you first moved to Texas, she was the only one who spoke to you in school. You grew up with her among white picket fences and scrapped knees, mantaining the friendship even as you moved away, until your return for college.
"Why would I even care? I don't live here!" you joke from the driver's seat, hopping off and giving her a hug. "I'm sorry but I can't help it. I'm just so excited for this trip, we've been planning it for ages!"
You keep talking excitedly about your plans, not noticing how her face falls.
"Yeah, about that..."
"You girls ready?" a third voice enters the picture, definitely not belonging to a girl.
"Uh, Sarah" you breath in, "Why the fuck is your dad here?"
In all his glory: Joel Miller, a guy you haven't seen in forever, too busy living in the dorms, girl dates with Sarah often out of her house. You wanted to explore the world: you weren't ten anymore, and the suburbs lost all of it's appeal they had when you were the age of Barbies and drawing on chalk.
"Listen, y/n. I tried, I really tried. But as soon as I opened my mouth, he started to pack his bags"
"Isn't your dad always busy at work?" you inquire, another one of the reasons Joel's face isn't a fresh memory in your head.
"That's part of the problem. He took all of the pending vacations he had at once" she sighs, sounding as dissapointed as you are. "I understand if you don't want to go"
"Are you being serious right now?" you chuckle dryly. "No, absolutely not. I saved for this trip, packed my favorite outfits and aced all my classes so my parents would allow me. Nothing is going to ruin this for me: not you, not your dad. So we'll go and we'll have all the fun we planned, yeah?" you express firmly, holding her hands. "We will have our girl summer, no matter what. Even if we have to ignore the elephant in the room..."
"Did you just call me fat?"
You turn around, and there he is: the uninvited. Joel Miller's aged face stands before you, strong arms flexing under the pressure of a couple of suitcases.
"No" you reply back, "just a nuissance"
He chuckles at your response, amused. "If you thought I'd let my babygirl go alone with you to the beach and get shit-faced drunk, you're not as smart as I remember, y/n"
Your name would always be on his tongue to call you out. Y/n, don't do that. Y/n apologize to the neighbours. Y/n, slow down. Y/n, don't be so stubborn. You were always a troublemaker, and his lips would only know how to pronounce your name if to berate you. But now, as his mouth says your name with a newly learned tone, dripping with dare and amusement, you can't help but feel a fire ignite that burns your skin.
"Dad!" Sarah calls out, taking you out of your thoughts. She flushes in embarrasment, and you scoff at the idea of giving too much of your time to think about Mr. Miller of all people. "I'm not ten anymore, we'll be just fine"
"You're barely of legal age!" he counters back. "What if somethin' was to happen to you, huh? I'd never forgive myself"
You get annoyed at his over-the-top reactions. What did he think you were gonna do? The wildest thing you had in mind was getting drunk while sitting in the sand. Not even in the water! You may be a wild spirit, but stupid you're not.
"Look, Mr. Miller" he cocks his head to the side, daringly so, almost as if waiting for you to try. "I don't know what you're thinking, but this isn't Driveway Dolls" he looks at you confused, so you try again, "Or Thelma and Louise, whatever suits your fucking old ass. Alright? This is a girls trip, heard that? Just two bestfriends enjoying their youth and summer without boys around to ruin it for them"
"Boys?" he laughs. "Too bad, then, 'cause sweetheart, I'm a man"
Your breath hitches, but you're not going to let him win; you always need to have the last word.
"Well, man up and let your daughter be free for once!"
Sarah covers her face with her palms, clearly knowing her dad more. This is a lost battle.
"Stop, y/n. Please. Dad's impossible to bend"
"He's ruining our trip!" you protest, feeling like a child throwing a tantrum.
"Take it or leave it" he leans against his truck, crossing his arms. Your eyes dart to the strained fabric of his sleeves, and when he chuckles, you don't know if he noticed or it's because of his imminent victory.
"Fine!" you throw your hands in the air, dramatically so. "Welcome on board, intruder"
Joel Miller smiles, and maybe it's the rare sight, not even common back in the day, that makes your heart skip a beat.
"And we're taking my truck"
"Are you being serious right now?!" Was this man going to take away all your freedom?
He laughs, mockingly. Rage bubbles in your chest, along something darker you aren't going to admit just yet.
"There is no way my daughter is going on a fucking hatchback to the beach"
You try to distract yourself talking to Sarah in the backseat, but her dad's prying glances time to time from the rear view mirror have you shifting uncomfortably on your seat.
He's persistent, always has been. Joel Miller, just as Sarah said, wasn't a man who could be bent. You'd remember thinking he was a sort of superhero: unbreakable. Whenever Sarah needed help, a pair of strong arms would be there, ready to take the weight off of her shoulders. He was now older, as you have noticed: grey and wrinkles sprayed all over his face. And now, the worst part of it all:
Age had made him infuriatingly attractive.
Unfair, you think, that a man so bitter that only seemed to worry and nag, was blessed with the rare quality of aging like wine. You can deny it anymore: whatever Joel Miller has now that he didn't before is working on you like a lovesick spell.
You look again to the front, just in time to catch one of his subtle (not really) stares. You keep the eye contact, only he tears away his gaze first, something akin to regret and fear circling on his warm brown orbs. The fire from before cracks inside of your belly, and the anticipation begins.
If he was going to ruin your trip, you might as well return the favor.
"M' gonna stop for gas" he says after some minutes of silence, deviating towards a gas station.
You take the opportunity to get out of the truck to strech your legs. Sarah does so too, but then whispers into your ear:
"Tell my dad I need to go to the bathroom. Don't want him worrying"
As if you'll talk to him. Despite that, you nod and she leaves you alone with her annoying dad.
"Reckless too, huh?" Joel appears by your side, almost making you drop your phone. "You know you're not s'pposed to use the damn phone on a gas station? Good thing I ain't let my daughter go alone with you"
You put your phone down. "Reckless? I know what I'm doing" but you sound nervous, for some reason.
"You haven't changed at all, have you?" Joel says, his voice surprisingly soft.
You heart gets stuck in your throat at the sudden shift, "I suppose not"
"I get that you hate me" he confesses, done filling the tank, "but I couldn't let the two of you go alone"
Your cheeks turn pink at the accusation, "I don't hate you"
He laughs, and the sound has something stirring in the lower of your belly. Why is Joel Miller of all people provoking feelings in you no other boy has ever provoked? You're used to playing with boys as you please, and you come to realize that's where the difference lies: you don't know how to handle a man.
A man so strong, your eyes don't leave him as his arms flex while pumping the gas, the delicious peek his simple white shirt gives you not going unnoticed; droplets of sweat on his temple, sliding down his jawline then getting lost down the crook of his neck. You lick your lips on instinct, horrified when you realize what you've just thought and done.
"Damn right you don't"
You could say you've reached some kind of truce, but then Sarah comes back, and when you look at Joel again, he's reverted to that annoying apathic state of his, but instead of bothering you, it only makes you want more.
"Hey" he says to Sarah, "where you went?"
"I had to pee, dad. Relax" she dismisses, shooting at you a can-you-believe-it look.
He walks away, ready to jump in the driver's seat again, when he turns around to whisper to Sarah:
"Don't ever leave me again" tone stern, "not with her"
But you hear.
You arrived late, the sun hiding behind the large body of water that seemed infinite.
"I can't believe we missed the first sunset!" you whine. "It was going to look so good on my Instagram stories..."
"This generation and their problems" Joel scoffs, taking the suitcases to the house you've rented for the next two days.
The answer is right at the tip of your tongue, but you decide to be the bigger person and remain quiet. If he wants to play, you better play smart.
"Dad, please" Sarah calls him out, and you have to hide a laugh. "Don't fight with y/n"
"I ain't doing shit" he sneers, crossing his bulking arms.
Sarah walks past him, muttering against his childishness. That angers Joel, who tries to remain cool.
"I know you hate me" you suddenly appear by his side. Your vainilla scent gets up on his nose, invading his body of you. "I just think you should try, for Sarah"
"I don't hate you" he answers, and now it's your turn to laugh.
"Yeah? Doesn't seem like it, Mr. Miller" it comes out before you can stop it, and there's something dark lurking behind his brown eyes piercing through you.
"I don't" sounding more sure this time. Serious too.
"You'll have to prove that"
You enjoy the surprise on his face and the light pink sprinkled across his cheeks.
"Prove that?"
You nod, finding all of this suddenly funny.
"Hmh, you heard me. Prove it, Mr. Miller. That you don't hate me"
But before he can respond, your bestfriend is back.
"Y/n, come on! You need to check the house. It has a shared balcony!" Sarah beams giddy.
You let her excitement infect you, taking her hand as you go inside the house. Joel stays back, your words ringing on his ears.
On the other hand, Sarah and you check the room together.
"Look this" she points at one of the mirrors in the room: it has details that remind you of the sea. "Isn't it cute?"
"It is" you agree, "we should take a picture"
"Okay. But use your phone" she says, "mine died on the road"
You're about to pull it out when you feel your pockets empty.
"It's... not here"
"You might have left it in the car" she tries to help.
"Yeah" you try to remain level-headed, "I'll go search for it"
You return to the truck, pressing your head against the window. Just like your friend guessed, it's there, abandoned on the seat.
"Lost somethin'?"
You gasp, turning around. Joel Miller's face is centimeters away from yours, breathing heavily as his body cages your smaller frame against the truck's doors.
"My phone" you find your voice after what feels like eternity, "it's inside the car"
"Need help with that?" his voice sounds low, whisper easily to be confused with a growl.
You don't know how to answer, scared for the first time of where your mouth could take you. So your solution is to nod, and step aside for him to open the car.
"There you go" he's dropping it in your hands, fingers lightly brushing yours. There's a shiver down your spine despite the cool weather, and you know damn well it's all his fault. He may feel it too, by the way he takes a step back, putting some distance.
"Need anything else?" but it feels like a slap to the face, as if he's challenging you to speak what you've been thinking but are too coward to do when he stands before you.
"No" you mentally slap yourself for how pathetic you sound, "this is all I needed, Mr. Miller. Thanks"
You look back one last time, despite it all. And there it is: that same look he gave you in the car.
"Anytime" but it falls deaf to your ears, as you basically ran away from him.
Him and his imposing presence, enough to make your legs tremble and your mind to stop working. Him and his smell, that brings you back to simpler times and reminds you of a a secret place in the woods, musk getting under your skin. Him and his breath, hitching when you touch hands. Him and his beating heart, just as loud as yours.
"Took you long" Sarah comments when you return, "I was already falling asleep"
She doesn't know or suspect, you tell yourself, but that doesn't stop you from feeling sick.
That night, as Sarah lays by your side and you try to sleep, all you can think about is his big hands, the lingering feeling of a warm touch. And then Joel, stepping backâcoming to his senses, as if something is holding him back.
Anytime.
You can't help but wonder what stopped him.
Days have blurred between drinks by the poolside, waves crashing, wet sand in your fingers and sun carressing skin.
Despite what happened, Joel remains in the shadows, letting you and Sarah enjoy your trip in peace. You may be spending time with your bestfriend, but his presence hangs in the air, impregnated with his strong pine and whisky smell, looming over you like a shadow; suffocating, like his scent is all you can breath. You hate how your mind keeps going back to him, because despite your inicial claims to ruin him, that wasn't the purpose of this vacation, yet Joel seems to have infected you with a need that corners your mind to think of him and him only. The greed you feel is unnatural, like a spell has been cast upon you. He may be far, just as you wanted, and you should enjoy that, but it's that very same distance that is driving you insane.
Today, you and Sarah decided to go diving and then play volleyball.
The day ends, the sun sets, and so does the tiredness. But as Sarah's snores fill your ears, you toss around the bed, trying to conceal sleep to no avail.
Staring at the ceiling, you kept drifting back to Joel, mind wondering and heart racing at thoughts of strong arms caging you, warmth in your body that the breeze creeping through flowing curtains fails to provide.
The sound of wood creaking jolts you awake. His silhoutte is hard to miss, and your eyes follow it cross your bedroom. You pretend to be asleep, his scent up your nose as he walks in careful measured steps, trying not to wake you up. He looks back at Sarah, and the moonlight betrays him when it shines over his eyes, revealing an adoration that gnaws your chest.
He keeps walking, until he reaches the shared balcony. It's then that you make a choice, heart pounding in your chest as you race yourself from bed, going his way.
You go outside, finding him resting his arms on the balcony, facing the beach in silence. Soft waves crash against the wet sand, but not even that can overpower the sound of your beating heart.
"What're you doin' here?" he's asking, even if you haven't moved from your spot. Seems like your friend wasn't joking about his heightened senses, despite his old age. "Thought y'were 'sleep"
"Well, Sarah is a fast sleeper" you answer, walking to his side.
"She sure is" and the faintest of a smile appears on his face.
Joel Miller is a mystery to you: the most closed off man you've ever met, hiding behind his apparent apathy that only seems to be gone whenever Sarah is around. She's the apple of his eye, and those soft traces of a more tamed character that come to light have truly picked your interest, begging for more crumbs that will help you puzzle who he really is: he, that is as handsome as a mystery. The worst is, you don't know what attracts you more.
But you won't let him win.
"Mr. Miller?"
"Yeah?"
"Were you married?"
He looks at you, dark eyes partly iluminated by the moonlight.
"Aren't you a bit too young to be bold?"
"And aren't you too hot to be all alone?" you reply in an instant, rendering him speechless.
He chuckles, but it sounds defeated rather than amused.
"Trust me, kid" he's back at facing the ocean. Goddamn coward. "This isn't what you want"
"Don't call me kid" you berate, almost repulsed at it. "I'm twenty one"
He scoffs. "Still hella young"
"But I know what I want" a wavering hand ready to trace over his pecs, but he's stopped you before it descends. Before it's too late.
"You don't" he assures, grip on your hand stronger, without knowing how much you're enjoying this. Or maybe he does. "See? That's the problem with you kids: you think you do, but you don't"
You loose your patience.
"Tell me then, Mr. Miller. Would a kid do this?"
Taking the distraction, the same hand flies now to grop his dick, and to your surprise, it's already hard.
"Seems I'm not the only one who doesn't know what they want"
"Stop" he warns, hissing when your eager fingers unbuckle his belt. It's huge, for some reason, and you can't help but feel an ardent throb at the thought of grinding on it.
When your eyes look at Joel, he swears he sees you devilishly smirk, almost as if you were mocking him.
"Stop?" you bite your lip, feigning innocence as doe eyes look where dark ones had done before. "If that's what you want, you aren't even trying"
You kneel down, and the position gives you the perfect side of his adam's apple bobbing in a nervous gulp. He grows insecure under your intense stare, breath hitching when the wind hits his now free member as you pull down his underwear, revealing it hard and leaking with precum. You laugh delighted, with victory, and he finds himself trapped between the moon and your games, drowning on a sea feet away.
"I think I know what you want"
"How? You don't even know what you want" barely fighting it.
Your fingers grace over his soft abdomen, tracing down his belly and happy trail. Your teeth nip at the skin scattered with soft rosy lines, peppering the skin with fluttering kisses to entertain your mouth until your digits touch his hard cock. Joel whines, squirming, and you're delighted with the receptiveness, needy sounds escaping his lips.
You haven't even started yet.
"You're right, I don't" you agree. "All I know is you piss me off and that you ruined our trip, so I'm gonna take my anger out on you one way... or another"
You take your first lick, savouring the dark red head. His hips buck, a shaky gasp robbed from his chapped lips.
"Fuck" he exhales weakly, lost against the sound of water.
"Don't worry, Mr. Miller. I'll take good care of you" admiring his girth. He looks down on you, bottom lip caught between his teeth. Joel can't lie and say he isn't fascinated with the way you look at him, not believing so much appetite can fit in such a small young body. Not even his partners before you, had looked at him like he was the best thing in the world, and now here you were: the loud-mouthed brat best friend of his daughter, sucking his cock while Sarah slept just a few meters away. Just yersteday he was bickering with you, not standing your spoiled attituted and juvenile spirit that can't be tamed and won't shut up. Hell, you had even disrespected him. But here he is, not being able to find the words or actions to stop you: because he doesn't want to.
It was all so fucked up.
But then you're closing your lips around his swollen head, and he knows there's no point in fighting it anymore, his whole body urging him to give in.
"Oh, fuck" he pants, getting all worked up as you take him deeper. "Keep goin'. You're doin' a great job, sweetheart"
The praise gets to you, even if not needed.
Your tongue swirls, running the muscle with wet slides, up and down, tip to base, some pressure applied. You proceed to take in his balls, feeling him tense up. You wanted to mock him badly, but your mouth was full of his dick, so that wasnât happening.
"D-don't stop" he pleads, sounding more like a whine.
He's deep enough that it hits your throat. You've never been this greedy, but also, have never tried with a dick so big. You feel him in the roof of your mouth, your lips at the base of the tip, brushing against skin. Joel can't keep up: breath hitching, moans ragged and consumed, barely standing if it wasn't for your hands digging in his thighs for support.
You keep building pace, seeing Joel's face scrunch up.
"M' close" his voice comes out strained, his head tilting back, wild soft locks from before now plastered against his forehead, dripping with sweat. His muscles tense, you can feel it, and it's just about time before he's coming inside your mouth.
You want it. To taste more of him, who you claim to hate but feels oh so good. Strong, just as his presence.
"So good, fuck, you're so good" in a tone so needy and desperate. It falls out of his lips, followed by more unintelligible praises dripping from his tongue.
And then, in a shaky breath, lost to the wind:
"Y/n"
You gasp, and he feels it, the air ticklish on his sensitive skin.
Joel said your name.
Your name, in a way it had never been said before. Uttered like a prayer, submerged in devotion. Your name, melting into his moans, deep within him, the calling full of a primal desire. The experience is intoxicating, making you crave more.
Joel comes with a groan, head falling back. Your name dies on his lips as his hips thrust up with your lips closing in. Thick spurts of cum mix with saliva in the back of your throat. You pull out, a string of saliva still connecting you to his dick. He looks down on you, body shaking as much as yours. Without breaking eye contact, he wipes some of the mess drooling from your lips, his calloused thumbs carresing you with a softness you didn't think was possible. The contrast makes you falter a bit, and you know Joel notices.
"There you go" your voice comes out hoarse, avoiding his eyes, "now you know what you want"
He chuckles, giving you a hand to stand up. As you raise to your feet, his face is barely inches away from yours. You can see the lines time has marked across his face, the grays coloring hair you remember to be brown, and those eyesâpiercing through you like they know you better than you know yourself.
"But do you?"
Joel Miller doesn't know what is regret.
He didn't feel it when Sarah arrived unexpectedly at the ripe age of twenty, forcing him out of college. He didn't feel it when Sarah's mother left him alone to raise his daughter all by himself, aware he had tried it all to make it work. He surely didn't feel it when you came back after leaving Texas, long gone the childlike wonder and features that made him see you as an extension of his daughter, his gaze lingering a bit too long on this familiar face in a beautiful blooming new body.
But this is different, and he isn't sure if, for the first time, he's finally known what is regret.
Joel Miller also doesn't know when to back out of a fight.
He remember his brother Tommy, practically begging to let go of some asshole that dared to pick up on him, knuckles bloody no matter if he was young then and old as stubborn now, the same red painted across his willfull hands.
But now those hands prickle and sweat, no matter how much he runs them over the fabric of his jeans. And now, as your dangerous stare pierces through him across the small table, Sarah oblivious to the game as she quietly munchs her cereal, Joel Miller backs down, his gaze the first to look away.
He realizes just now why he was so afraid to look up to the sky after you left. The same stars that stared back from the high of the dark night are akin to the ones dancing in your eyes.
"Mr. Miller" your voice breaks his train of thoughts.
"Where's Sarah?" he asks in a panicked voice, realizing you've been left alone.
"Brushing her teeth" you answer, slightly taken back by his tone. "We were going out today, remember?"
Ah, yes. A little tour to an island not to far away from there.
"M' not goin'. Sorry, kid" he's decided. Before you can speak, Sarah returns and asks the question herself.
"M' tired. That's all" but it sounds rather an excuse.
"Are you sure, dad?" Sarah presses, not sure why he had changed his mind at the last minute.
"Yeah" he insists, all while avoiding those eyes of yours, unsatisfied and searching for answers of questions qithout a voice. "You girls go and have fun"
So you do.
You go and feel like you're inside of Mamma Mia (your favorite movie; both of you learned ABBA's discography thanks to it, something that offended your parents), the sun reflecting in the water, the little island with its green and sun, and the flowers that dust their petals into the shore where your boat arrives.
But when the trip is over and soft waves rock your return, you think of Joel.
You think you should feel at least a little ashamed of becoming so obssesed with a man in barely two days, who, on top of it all, is your bestfriend's dad. But then you remember the taste of him inside your mouth, how his dick had rasped against your throat, his seed warm in the tip of your tongue. And then his eyes, promises meant to be broken locked away behind tides of fear, that do an excellent job of reminding you how easy is to drown; to fall for how in hazel flickers, Joel seems he'd give you the world.
"Let's get drunk" you deadpan once you're back at the shore.
Sarah laughs at your determination, then realizes you're serious.
"What?"
"Yeah, it's our last day here" you reason. "Besides, your dad isn't here. What's he going to say?"
If you sound between angry and dissapointed at his absence, Sarah remains quiet.
"We're running away" she tries one last time, but by the look in your eyes, you've made your choice.
"Are we? We're twenty-one, Sarah. We can do whatever the fuck we want" you feel rebellious all of a sudden, "what? Don't you wanna give this trip a grand finale?"
So you crash into the nearest bar and waste the night away, drinking and dancing. But you're ordering a drink you don't like, and in every glass of whiskey down your throat, his name hangs in the air like the memory of his smell, locked behind a vault as if it's too sacred to say. But when Sarah gets a boy to dance and lends his friend to you, you wish there was rough where soft meets your skin, and chapped when you kiss his lips. Your body burns ablaze with sweat, alcohol and regret, a dangerous combination that makes you pull Sarah out of the bar when you feel you're about to black out. She complains, but you're set on making it to the bed before your eyelids shut.
Maybe it's because you always had what you wanted, or maybe it was the forbidden, but whatever reason had pushed you in Joel's orbit, refused to let you go.
And maybe you're imagining his voice, scolding you like a kid. Maybe you're seven again, and in the shadows of the bed, you've gone back to your childhood days. Y/n, y/n, y/n. That sick berating tone of his, acting like you're stupid and small.
"Fucking brat" he spats, drops of his angry scowl landing on your cheek. You then realize he's hovering over you, and it's real, not a product of your foggy mind. So you stand up, sobering up a bit, when he charges back again. "Makin' my daughter pass out? What the fuck were you thinkin'? Could've ended in the middle of the street. You're s'pposed to go to the damn island and then come back!"
Your mouth tastes like sand, but even if you've passed out a couple hours ago, the fire doesn't die. So your tongue is back, finding it's voice to say:
"Well, if you hadn't left us alone, this wouldn't have happened"
He chuckles, darkly. Humorless. "I see"
"What?" you challenge, a shiver down your spine that looses itself somewhere else.
"You got my daughter drunk as revenge"
You're mortified at the accusation, the remnants of alcohol now long gone of your system.
"Do you think I'd risk me and my friends' safety for you? Out of all people, you?" not caring if you sound bitter.
The truth sticks to your skin as uncomfortably as the sweat.
"I dunno, sweetheart. That's why I'm asking you" the pet name rolls effortlessly, in a rough voice that creates a wet spot in your panties. He gets closer, and you can see the tremble of his lips as he lets out a shaky breath. "Be a good girl and answer"
"I won't tell you shit" you spit.
"You little mix, thinkin' you can run your tongue like it ain't been 'round my cock before" you look like a deer caught in headlights, and Joel's enjoying this more than he should. "That's right, what'd Sarah think knowing her friend's a little slut for'er daddy's cock?"
The electric current that crosses your body sparks the fire of the woods hiding behind his auburn storms.
Now you're feeling high on a forest fire. You want the flames to engulf you, even if ashes is all there'll be left.
"Tell me you want this" his forehead clashes against yours, and the whole world falls silent, except for your ringing ears.
"I want this" and he's just as surprised as you are by the unwavering conviction. "I need you, Mr. Miller"
You try to get up, but he pushes you with full force back into your bed. Then, the base creaks, and he's on top of you, his weight pressing you against the mattress.
"What are you-"
"You think I'd let you get away easily? Have things your way? Naive lil' girl" he tuts, "I'll punish you for that"
As on cue, drowned out snores are heard from your side.
"But, Sarah-" you try to protest, his body caging you under his mercy.
"That'll mean you're behavin', right?" he runs his thumb across your lips, gently pulling them down, as if the chase was thrilling as eating the prey. "I know you don't want to wake her up and see her slut of a friend bangin' her daddy"
You tense, remaining silent at the threat, even if your body reacts other ways.
"Good girl"
Heâs quick to get rid you of your shorts.
"Fuckin' hell" he murmurs against your neck, the clothing discarded somewhere in the room. "Wearin' this little shitty bottoms to rail me up, knowin' damn well when to bent and get me hard. Been thinkin' of takin' them off ever since you wore 'em first"
The confession makes you whine, and Joel's delighted by the sound, and just how putty you are under his big rough hands.
"Let's see what we got here" his large hands caress your thighs as he settles between your legs. "Black lace, baby? Such a fuckin' tease. Wore 'em for me?"
You shake your head, but his calloused digits dig on the plush skin of your thighs, making you wince at the pain.
"Don't lie to me, sweetheart. You'd said you'll be a good girl, yeah?" you nod, soaking wet, painfully so.
"Yes, I'll be"
"Show me your manners, then" he presses light kisses on the insides of your thighs, close to where you need his graying beard to tickle, "and I'll show you mine"
"Just eat me, Joel" you demand breathlessly. "Fuck. Need you, Mr. Miller, so bad"
"And why should I reward you, impatient little slut? Eager to get daddy's filthy mouth between that pretty pussy" Joel bites the inside of your thigh, and it takes all of your strength to avoid becoming a moaning mess. "You've been bad, sweetheart. A brat"
You deny it, but his head dissappears between your legs, licking the wet spot on your panties. You squirm under the teasing of his tongue, legs shutting close on instinct. You drown a whimper in your palm as he yanks your panties away.
"Don't do anything I ain't tell you to" demanding, and if you weren't this horny and out of your mind, you'd probably be scared. "There'll be consequences"
You try to obey. But then his nose, that big nose you want covered in your slick as you grind off of it between your legs, sniffs your panties. He gives it one big sniff, and then two, fingers going white as he holds the piece of fabric with too much force, shoving it on his face.
"Ye'r too fuckin' sweet, I'll give you that" he mumbles in a drunken haze. "Need to taste that drippin' cunt of yours 'night"
The bed creaks again, or maybe it's the sound of his bones starting to give in to old age, but Joel is sucking your clit, tongue pushed inside of your puffy folds. You hide a moan against his lips, hands traveling to grip his hair.
"Joel" you breathe out.Â
He parts your folds easily, and before you know it, a rugged finger circles your entrance. Your back arches, and then he leaves place for his mouth again, flicking your sensitive core with his tongue. A moan a little too loud escapes your lips, making his eyes darken when the bed next to you shifts, Sarah tossing in her sleep.
"You dumb fuckin' brat. What'd I say?" his hand slams against your pussy, a sting you've never felt before, both showered in pain and pleasure, spreading across your cunt. "Don't disobey me. Apologize, now"
He stops his minstrations, and you're so achingly close to your orgasm, that the answer falls easy and rushed from your lips.
"Sorry, Mr. Miller"
"Good girl" Joel praises as he pushes his finger in, next to his tongue on your clit.
But the orgasm is so deliciously close, and you can't wait for more. So now you're grinding in his face by reflex, rubbing against his big nose just like you'd imagined. You whine at the sensation, and Joel rests his tongue flat on your clit with surprise.
"Who gave you permission to do that?" but his voice sounds more amused than nagging. "That imagination of yours is somethin' else. Have you been thinkin' bout it all this time, hmh, greedy dirty slut?"
The orgasm looms closer, hitting when Joel pushes a second rough finger in, walls clenching against his digits. He pulls away, licking his fingers with his tongue.
"Such a perfect pussy you got there, sweetheart. As sweet as you when you ain't bein' a pain in the ass"
You laugh breathless, trying to recover.
"Wanna taste?"
So now he's kissing you for the first time, his lips rough against plush skin, nibbling with your lower lips between his teeth, his tongue still tasting like you roaming free inside your mouth, like he wants to mark every corner; imprint himself in you. You've never wanted anything, hell, anyone more. The kiss leaves you hanging, heart racing at the closeness of his face and the warmhearted feeling of his lips on yours, like pieces of a puzzle fitting together.
"There you go" he chuckles, enamoured at the sight of your puffy lips. "Now it's my turn"
He's quick to get rid of the jeans and belt (oh well, it'll be another day) until he's over you, just wearing his boxers.
You'd never seen Joel naked before, why would you? But there's a vague memory of hot summer days, trying to survive the heat in the town's pool, just as the rest. He was there, eye candy for the mothers and horny teens. You hadn't understand back then, when he was all muscle, but you do know, where the mighty strenght is still hidden there, somewhere between his sturdy arms and chest as soft as his belly, round as it pushes above the only piece of cloth that forbids you to see his dick. His chest is full of hair, and God, you feel so dirty wanting to bury your face in the sweat drenched patch.
"Stop lookin' at me like that" he teases, but there is a small voice of insecurity hiding its undertones beneath his smirk under your stare.
"You're so fucking hot, Joel" comes out before you can stop it, now mouth acting up on its own.
Fuck, he thinks, he's too far gone. There's no point of return.
Your eager fingers pull down the underwear, fingers grazing the softness of his length. You slowly grabs his dick as he comes closer, never seeing anything as big and provoking as it. That makes you tighten your grip on his dick, which stands proud and tall, leaking precum, and the muscles of his thighs strain against his skin.Â
He positions himself between your legs again.
"Let's put this big bad boy to use, huh?"
He grunts at your words, large hands finding your thighs for support, as he caresses up and down the skin littered with marks and kisses.
Joel pushes in. Just his tip, yet your mouth falls open at how large he already feels, and you tighten your hold on his neck.
"Tell me if it hurts" all softness on his eyes, his forehead falling against yours, as if he hadn't been punishing you just minutes ago. Your heart races at the gesture, tender meeting the rough of his edges.
The real question isn't asked, but you're on the pill and you trust him. You just want to fill him inside of you, all of him.
"I will, Mr. Miller"
He slams all the way in. You let out a broken sound, quickly muffled by his palm as he stays buried deep inside of you, givimg you time to adjust to his size. It burns, but you enjoy the way the pain feels. He slowly pulls out, before pushing all the way in again. Your slick folds take him, and he grunts, supporting his aching body by the forehead against yours one more time.
"So tight, sweetheart. Ain't nobody ruinin' this pussy but me" his growl comes out possesive as Joel establishes a steady rhythm. You softly moan as he keeps moving, pounding into you, hitting a spot no one had before, making you see stars. It gets harder to stay quiet, but Joel caputres every little sound that comes out of you in a kiss, as if that way he could preserve them better and forever.
You wrap your legs tight around him, keeping him close as your walls clench around him, his thrusts harder yet slower as he keeps going, ramming into you.
"Look at you, coatin' my dick like a fuckin' meltin' ice cream" he gently pushes it again between your folds, rubbing his dick on your clit. "So fuckin' wet, for me"
His lips are slightly parted and his eyes looked all fogged up, lost in the fire, thrusts becoming sloppier as he too feels it coming.
"So fuckin' pretty" drips from his mouth, and there's the stars in your eyes and the light you insist he's always had, even if he'd prefere the darkness. "The prettiest girl in the world with the sweetest pussy, givin' it all to this ol' perverted fuck"
The words and his big dick inside of you makes your eyes flutter shut on instinct.
"Don't sleep on me, baby" he coos, a hand brushing damp hair from your face. You recognize the look: the same in the car, on the balcony and on the poarch of his house, after letting the years go by. Back then, you thought you had dreamed it, but now that the secret saccharine sweetness reveals herself as he slams into you, you know it was real.
This is real.
You meet his gaze again and try to hold it as he pounds you so gently yet so rough, trying to show him without words that whatever this wrong and sick feeling was, you felt the same.
"Such'a good girl, takin' me so well" Joel grunts, slamming to the hilt. "Fuck, sweetheart, I'm gonna-"
His dick twitches inside of you, walls spasming around his cock as your pussy takes it all, milking him dry.
"Take it all, like the good girl you are"
Both of you pant, and it takes him a while to realize the sun is raising again until its rays hurt his eyesight.
He's about to tell you how this shouldn't be, how he, at such an old age shouldn't be pinning for his daughter's friend: so young, sweet and loud-mouthed. No matter if you felt the same, or if your body was marked in and out by him, No, because wanting isn't enough, and no tide could wash away his sins from the shore.
"Listen, y/n-" your name like he has never said it before: no scold, no malice nor lust. Just a softness he hadn't felt in years, asleep under thick layers of cold.
But your soft snores fill the silence between the beats of his heart.

ARE YOU COMING HOME?
pairing: billie eilish x reader
synopsis: she gets a lovely surprise while on tour
warnings: nothing but FLUFF i love fluff, not proofread
wordcount: 0.9k
a/n: very late merry christmas and happy new year!! not my best work but please enjoy! anyways i need to be picked up and spun around plsplspls
long distance relationships are never easy, especially when your girlfriend is one of the most famous singers in the world. she's on tour right now, overseas and so, so far away from you and your empty arms.
or so she thinks.
billie's voice is a little tinny through the phone, crackles from foil heard as she unpacks the snacks she'd bought after her show. you watch in contentment, hugging a pillow to your chest with a leg exaggeratedly thrown over it, arm starting to go numb from holding the device up.
"i bought your favorite sweets too," she says, cutting the silence. "missing you so much, i really wish you could be here to steal from me." she ends her statement with a pout. oh, how you wish you could kiss that pout off of her lips. but soon. all you need right now is patience.
"so your friends- you guys went to a hotel just to watch a movie?" billie asks, a little confused. it was the best excuse you could think of out of nowhere.
"yup," you reply, popping the p. "they're not around right now, though. out shopping. i'm too broke and lazy to go out."
"i told you you could use my card, though."
"i'm not using your card, billie."
"you could if you wanted."
"no."
she frowns, as if she were the one losing something. billie did that a lot: shower you with expensive gifts and treats and dates and refuses to accept anything back. the fact only makes you happier about your plan, knowing she'd ask about the cost but it wouldn't really matter anyway because both of you were benefitting.
"when are you coming home?" a trick question. "i miss you so so bad. and i miss staying home with shark and just cuddling together. our bed is so cold without you."
"oh?" billie grins, eyebrow raising. before she could comment anything inappropriate, the doorbell rings on her end of the line. "ah, that must be room service. i ordered dinner. be back in a minute, love."
you grin to yourself now as she turns away to answer the door, knowing that there was a very big chance that it was, in fact, not room service. your ears prick up at the hint of a gasp, muffled voices exchanging polite conversation, and billie returns in frame holding a huge bouquet of flowers, an even huger smile on her face.
she was practically glowing, outshining the sweat and slight tiredness formerly seen on her face from her performance. "you're kidding me."
"what?!" you ask, laughing. your heart swells with pride.
"you didn't seriously get me this from, what, on the other side of the world?" your girlfriend asks incredulously, admiring the little pink and white petals you'd picked out and reading the note that said nothing but 'i'm proud of you'.
you push yourself up off the bed, casually pulling on a pair of socks before slipping on your shoes, making sure to not let it be seen on camera. "i had to call in a couple of favors from your manager, of course. i'm sorry it's not in my handwriting."
and it wasn't, because you knew that billie would recognize your strokes immediately, and that would blow everything else off.
you make your way to the main hotel door, making sure your face covered the background so that the girl on your phone didn't see its similarities to her own room. "hold on, baby, i'll call you back."
the singer's dark brows furrow at your abrupt dismissal. "okay. don't take too long."
"love you."
she didn't get to reply before you click on the red button and dash to the elevator, pressing her floor in the same hotel (though she didn't know it yet), having memorized the number by heart when she told you yesterday.
you get there, just in time for the room service server to roll his cart of to her door. pushing your nerves aside, you walk right up to him and excuse the interruption. "hi, sorry. my girlfriend is in this room and i was hoping to surprise her, would you mind if i borrowed your hat?"
he agrees, barely hiding a smile. thanking him, you took a deep breath to compose yourself, jamming the hat onto your head. your hand lingers over the bell, glancing nervously at the server, who in turn nods encouragingly at you.
ding.
footsteps can be heard from inside, and you count to five before the door swings open and you drop your head to hide your face, resorting to deepening your voice. "hello ma'am, room service-"
"y/n?" she gasps in recognition, incredulous. billie's hand is frozen on the doorknob, staring in disbelief.
finally, you raise your head and hand the server his hat back, your smile having difficulty in concealing a laugh. "surprise?"
you're unable to do anything more when billie snatches you up by the waist, raises you, and spins you around dramatically, her own lips wide in a grin. the sudden movement messes up your hair, getting it over your shoulder and behind and swept towards the opposite side but she didn't care. your girlfriend pulls you in close in a tight hug, one arm around your waist and the other resting upon your spine.
her happiness can still be felt blind.
she wouldn't let go, not for a second to get inside, not to formally accept the room service food, so you thank the server over her shoulder.
he leaves you and billie to your moment a little awkwardly.
"you didn't tell me you were here!" she whines into your hair.
you laugh. "that's the point of a surprise, bils."
"i can't believe you actually flew here. you hung up on me. i love you so so so much, you know that?"
"yes, i know." another soft smile graces your face. "i love you so so so much too."

And at the end of the day Glen may not have won the Golden Globe, but he just might have won something betterâyou.
A/N: Glen's look at the Golden Globes did things to me and gave me so many ideas. This will probably be the last fic I do for the GG and I'm going to try to get back on track with my WIPs and Requests.
As always I'd love to hear what you guys think! I love seeing your comments and reblogs! I seriously smile and get all giddy like a little kid when I get a notification from you guys so please let me know what I think.

The hotel room was a whirlwind of chaos, a perfect reflection of Glenâs pre-event energy. The plush carpet was littered with tissue paper from a last-minute gift delivery, a shoe box sat abandoned near the bed, and the sleek black tie Glen had decided to forego tonight was somehow draped over a lampshade.
Glen himself was in the middle of the room, pacing in socks and dress pants, his phone pressed to his ear. âListen, Iâm just saying, Texas football isnât a sportâitâs a religion,â he declared, his Texas drawl warming the edges of his words. âAnd if the Longhorns take the game against Ohio State this week, weâre coming for that national title.â
He paused, evidently listening to the journalist on the other end of the call, then grinned as he gestured animatedly with his free hand. âYeah, yeah, I know you want to talk about the nomination. But did you see last weekendâs game? That last play in the second overtime?â
Across the room, you sat curled on the couch, scrolling through your phone but only half-paying attention to the screen. Watching Glen charm his way through an interview about his career or recent projects while managing to somehow steer the conversation to Texas football was nothing new.
âCufflinks,â said Warren, the stylist ensuring Glen looked red-carpet ready. Warren stood to the side, arms crossed with the patience of someone whoâd dealt with a dozen âGlen Powellsâ before.
âTheyâre in the pocket of your tux,â you called without looking up, your voice laced with playful exasperation. âRight where I told you I put them earlier.â
Glen froze mid-gesture, patting down his pants pocket first before moving to his jacket. When his fingers closed around the cufflinks, he shot you a sheepish grin.Â
âYouâre a lifesaver,â he mouthed, before turning his attention back to his call. âListen, I gotta wrap this up. Can I call you tomorrow and weâll finish this?â he asked the journalist.
With that, he hung up and turned to the room, raking a hand through his neatly-styled hair. âYou believe this?â He said, grinning as he pocketed his phone. âIâm on deadline and trying to get out the door for one of the biggest nights of my life. And GQ wants to talk aboutâŠwardrobe and clothes and who Iâm wearing.â
Warren arched a brow, adjusting the velvet Armani jacket on its hanger. âWardrobe is why Iâm here, Glen,â he said with a grin. âNow, if you could refrain from wrinkling this masterpiece, we might actually get you to the event looking like a winner.â
You snorted, rising from the couch. âPoor you,â you teased, brushing imaginary lint off your own shirt. âMust be so hard being adored by millions while wearing designer clothes.â
Glen rolled his eyes and snorted, stepping closer as the stylist fussed with his cummerbund. âHey, Iâm counting on you to keep me sane tonight,â he said, half-serious as he began to tug at the cuffs of his shirt. âYouâre my buffer.â
âBuffer?â you repeated, arching a brow. âThatâs what Iâm here for? Not moral supportâjust as a human barrier between you and Hollywood?â
âExactly,â he deadpanned, his grin widening. âYouâre overqualified for the job, though.â
You stepped forward, brushing imaginary lint from his shirt, your fingers moving with practiced ease over the slick fabric. Glen watched you, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.Â
âOkay, be honest,â he said, tilting his chin slightly. âOne button or two undone? Whatâs the vibe tonight?â
You paused, letting your gaze drop to the open collar of his shirt, catching a glimpse of the chest hair peeking out.
âOne,â you said decisively, reaching up to fasten the second button. âTwo buttons undone is too much chest hair. Youâre going to a red carpet, not auditioning for a â70s cop show.â
He laughed, the rich sound filling the room as he placed his hands on his hips. âHey, my chest hair is a crowd-pleaser,â he countered, feigning offense. âYou donât know how many compliments Iâve gotten on this chest.â
You rolled your eyes, holding back a laugh. âPlease never say that to me again.â
He leaned in slightly, his grin widening. âAdmit it. Youâre just jealous you canât pull this off.â
You rolled your eyes, adjusting the collar of his shirt with a playful tug. âOh, please. If I wanted to show off chest hair, Iâd buy a faux-fur vest and call it a day.â
âSavage,â he said, clutching his chest as though youâd wounded him. âYouâve got jokes tonight, huh?â
âSomebody has to keep your ego in check,â you replied, stepping back to inspect your work. âAnd you make it so easy.â
Glen chuckled, shaking his head as he tugged at the cuffs of his shirt. âWell, Iâll have you know, Warren said I was rocking this look,â he said, gesturing toward the stylist, who was busy folding tissue paper into one of the garment bags.
Warren didnât even look up. âWarren also said to stop touching your shirt or youâll wrinkle it,â he replied dryly, earning a snort from you and an exaggerated groan from Glen.
âFine,â Glen said, holding his hands up in mock surrender. âNo more touching. But if I get to the carpet and Iâm not turning heads, Iâm blaming you.â
âOh, youâll turn heads,â you said, crossing your arms and giving him a once-over. âIf not for the suit, then definitely for whatever ridiculous sound bite you give on the carpet. Youâre physically incapable of being boring, remember?â
He grinned, stepping closer so the space between you was almost nonexistent. âIs that a compliment?â he asked, his voice dipping slightly.
You tilted your head, refusing to let him win. âDonât get used to it, Cowboy.â
âAh, there it is,â he said, leaning back with a laugh. âThe nickname. I knew it was coming.â
You shrugged. âIf the boots fitâŠâ
Glen slid the custom velvet Armani tux jacket over his broad shoulders, the deep midnight-black fabric catching the light in subtle, luxurious waves. He tugged at the lapels, ensuring everything was sitting perfectly, before stepping back with an air of casual confidence.
âWell?â he asked, doing a quick spin on his heels, arms spread out theatrically. âWhat do you think? Too much? Not enough?â
You leaned back slightly, arms crossed, pretending to appraise him critically, but your expression betrayed you. Your eyes swept over him, taking in every detailâthe sharp tailoring that hugged his frame perfectly, the structured cut of the jacket emphasizing his frame, and the way the silk shirt beneath hinted at the faintest trail of chest hair.
The stylist had done a remarkable job on his hair, taming the usual tousled locks into something sleek yet effortlessly natural. And the stubbleâGod, the stubble. He hadnât bothered to shave completely, leaving just enough scruff to lend him a rugged edge that, if you were honest, made him look even more attractive.
The all-black ensemble was a bold choice, but it worked. The mix of texturesâthe smooth silk of the shirt, the luxurious velvet of the jacket, and the matte sheen of the tailored trousersâcreated a look that was polished yet unmistakably Glen.
âYou clean up nice,â you finally said, a teasing smile pulling at your lips as you took him in from head to toe. âI mean, you almost look like a proper gentleman.â
âAlmost?â he repeated, raising an eyebrow as he turned back toward the mirror, pretending to check himself out.
âWell, the stubble kind of ruins the whole gentleman thing,â you quipped, biting back a laugh.
âRuin it?â Glen turned to face you again, his voice dripping with mock offense. âThe stubble is the piĂšce de rĂ©sistance, thank you very much.â He ran a hand over his jaw, grinning when he saw the way your gaze briefly followed the movement.
You rolled your eyes, trying to keep your composure. âSure it is. But seriously, you look good, Glen. The best Iâve seen you look in a while.â
For a moment, his grin softened, and his eyes caught yours. âYeah?â
âYeah,â you replied, more sincerely this time. âYouâre going to knock âem dead tonight.â
He held your gaze for a beat longer than usual, something unreadable flickering in his expression before he broke the moment with his signature charm. âWell, I have to. Youâre the one whoâll have to be seen with me all night. Canât embarrass you on your first red carpet.â
You glanced at the clock and froze. Less than an hour until you were supposed to be ready and out the door. Helping Glen finish getting ready had been funâmaybe a little too fun, you realized now, as time ticked away faster than youâd expected.
âI need to go get ready,â you said abruptly, stepping back and pointing toward the door.
Glen smirked, his hands casually adjusting the cuffs of his shirt. âGo on, Cinderella. Clockâs ticking.â
Without another word, you bolted for your room next door, already running through a mental checklist of what needed to happen to make yourself red carpet-ready in under an hour. Once inside, you kicked the door shut behind you and headed straight for the bathroom. Flicking on the light, you stared at your reflection in the mirror.
Okay. Hair. Makeup. Dress. You could do this. Right?
You pulled your hair loose from the lazy ponytail it had been in all day, raking your fingers through it and trying to decide if it would look better up or down. Your eyes darted to the neckline of the dress still hanging on the back of the closet door, but you didnât have time to figure out how to make everything match. You groaned, pressing your hands to your face.
A sharp knock at the door interrupted your spiraling thoughts.
âHello?â you called out, cautiously heading toward the door and cracking it open.
Standing there were two members of Glenâs glam squadâone holding a bag of makeup brushes and palettes, the other with a small suitcase of hair tools.
âMr. Powell asked us to check on you,â the makeup artist said with a kind smile. âHe thought you might be running behind.â
You blinked at them, momentarily speechless. âHe... sent you?â
The hairstylist nodded. âHe figured you might need a little help. Mind if we come in?â
You stepped aside to let them in, still processing Glenâs uncanny ability to predict youâd be panicking. âSorry about the mess,â you admitted, glancing at the clock again. âI wasnât expecting company.â
âDonât worry,â the makeup artist said, already setting up her supplies on the bathroom counter. âWeâve got this. Can we see the dress? Itâll help us figure out the best look for you.â
You grabbed the garment bag from the closet and unzipped it, revealing the dress inside. Youâd picked it out weeks ago, but standing there now, you suddenly second-guessed everything about it.
The hairstylist tilted his head thoughtfully, taking in the neckline and cut. âWith this neckline, Iâd suggest pulling your hair upâsomething elegant but not overdone. Itâll show off your shoulders and collarbone beautifully.â
You nodded, trusting his expertise. âThat sounds perfect.â
âAnd for makeup,â the other stylist added, âweâll keep it timelessâfocus on your eyes, a little shimmer, and a soft lip. Nothing too bold, just enough to complement the dress and the hair.â
âLetâs do it,â you said, exhaling as you sat down.
With practiced efficiency, they got to work. The hairstylist began gathering your hair into an elegant style that framed your face while showcasing the neckline of the dress. Meanwhile, the makeup artist brushed soft gold tones onto your lids, added a touch of liner to define your eyes, and blended everything seamlessly. A quick swipe of lipstick finished the look.
You watched the transformation in the mirror, the tension slowly melting from your shoulders. By the time they stepped back to admire their handiwork, you felt like a completely different person.
âDone in thirty minutes, just like we promised,â the hairstylist said with a grin.
You stood, giving them both a grateful smile. âThank you. Seriously, I wouldnât have made it without youâor Glen, apparently.â
The makeup artist laughed. âHe seemed pretty confident youâd need backup. Smart guy.â
âYeah,â you said softly, thinking about his effortless charm and how much he looked out for you. âHe really is.â
After the hairstylist and makeup artist left, you stood in front of the full-length mirror, a deep breath escaping your lips. You could do this.
You reached for the dress, still hanging from its garment bag, and carefully unzipped it. The soft fabric slid through your fingers as you pulled it off the hanger, feeling a flutter of nerves as you held it up in front of you.
The dress was simple, yet elegant, hugging every curve in a way that made you second-guess your choice. But it was beautiful.
With your heart racing a little, you slipped the dress on. You paused to glance at the mirror as you tugged the fabric up your body, hoping everything would fall into place.
But it didnât.
The zipper snagged halfway up your lower back. You tugged a little harder, but it didnât budge. Panic settled in your chest. You didnât want to rip the fabric or make a scene, but there was no way to finish getting ready if you couldnât zip the dress.
Your fingers fumbled for your phone, dialing Glenâs number before you could think twice. The seconds ticked by slowly, and your nerves only heightened with every ring.
âHey, itâs me,â you said the moment he answered. Your voice trembled slightly despite your best efforts to sound calm. âI need help. The zipper on the dress is stuck, and I canât get it up.â
âDonât worry, Iâm coming right over,â Glenâs voice was calm, reassuring. You could almost hear the smile in his tone.
The call ended quickly, and before you knew it, there was a soft knock at your door. You quickly pulled the front of the dress to your chest and peeked out, your eyes meeting Glenâs as you opened the door just a crack. His presence was as commanding as ever, but now, standing there, you felt exposed.
âHey,â you greeted him, offering a sheepish smile.
âHey,â he said softly, raising an eyebrow. âNeed a hand?â
You nodded, opening the door wider for him to step inside.
As he entered, you turned, giving him full view of the situation. The dress clung tightly to your body, and you were sure your back looked exposed in the tight fabric. A slight blush crept across your cheeks as your fingers instinctively tugged at the fabric.
âRelax,â Glen said, his tone warm and teasing. He moved behind you and gently grasped the zipper.Â
After a few tugs and a bit of effort, he managed to get it unstuck, smoothly pulling it the rest of the way up. The dress fit perfectly once it was zipped all the way.
Glen stepped back with a satisfied nod, patting your hip gently. âAll good. Youâre all set now.â
You took a deep breath, your nerves slightly eased but still there. With a nervous smile, you smoothed the front of your dress down, trying to calm yourself before glancing back at him.
âDo I look okay?â you asked quietly, suddenly unsure of how you appeared.
Glen gave you a slow once-over, his eyes lingering for just a moment longer than you expected. Then, his lips curved into a soft smile.
âYou look amazing,â he said, his voice steady and sincere. âSeriously. Youâre going to steal the show tonight.â
You couldnât help but smile, the tension in your chest easing. Glenâs words meant more than you realized, and as he gave you that smile, it felt like everything was finally falling into place.
Once you were fully ready, feeling the weight of the evening ahead, Glen offered you a reassuring smile as he adjusted his jacket one last time. He gave you a soft nod, signaling that it was time to go.
Together, you left the suite, the sound of your heels echoing in the hallway as you walked side by side toward the elevator. Glen pressed the button, standing close enough to be a silent but steady presence. You couldnât help but notice how effortlessly he movedâlike he was born to own every room he entered, even though his demeanor was always so grounded.
The elevator doors opened with a soft chime, and Glen stepped aside, letting you enter first. When you reached the lobby, the bustle of the hotel faded in comparison to the calm, quiet space Glen seemed to create around the two of you. He was the kind of person who moved with purpose, but never rushedâalways thoughtful, always present.
As you made your way toward the entrance, he gave a quiet wave to a few people who greeted him, but he kept his focus on you, his hand close to your lower back as if guiding you through the crowd.
Outside, a sleek black car waited by the curb, the driver standing at attention. Glen held the door open for you with a courteous nod, his hand outstretched to assist you into the back seat.
You smiled, appreciating the little thingsâhis attention to detail, the way he never made you feel like you were inconveniencing him. You slid into the seat, and as you did, Glen quickly followed, settling next to you with a quiet grace that was all him.
The driver closed the door, and the car began to move smoothly through the streets, the city lights reflecting off the tinted windows. The buzz of the evening began to settle into a comfortable rhythm, and Glen turned his attention to you with a soft look.
âYou ready for this?â he asked, his tone light but sincere. He glanced down at your dress, the slight gleam in his eyes making you feel all the more seen. âYouâre gonna turn heads tonight, no doubt about it.â
You smiled, trying to play it cool, but his words still made your stomach flutter. âIâm ready,â you said, your voice steady.Â
The car glided through the streets, the hum of the engine and the soft clink of the streetlights outside giving you a sense of distance from the chaos of the night ahead. Your fingers nervously drummed on the fabric of your dress, your gaze flickering from the passing city lights to the reflection of yourself in the window.
Glen noticed the subtle tension in your posture and the way your fingers twitched, like they couldnât quite settle. His sharp eyes, attuned to every little shift in your mood, moved over to you. He shifted closer, his hand reaching across the space between you with ease, brushing lightly over your fingers before gently taking your hand in his.
"You're going to be fine," he said, his voice low, teasing but gentle, as he gave your hand a reassuring squeeze. His thumb brushed the back of your hand, smoothing away any remnants of tension. "Just smile and wave, Penguin. Youâve got this."
You couldnât help but laugh at the nickname, the warmth of his hand in yours bringing a little bit of ease. âPenguin?â you echoed, raising an eyebrow, feeling the tension in your shoulders release with that soft chuckle.
He grinned at you, the kind of smile that melted any nervous edge. âYeah, Penguin. You knowâMadagascar. Smile and wave boys. Smile and wave.â He gave your hand a playful tug, the humor in his eyes lighting up.
You shook your head, but the tension youâd carried with you slowly began to melt. Glen had that way about himâwithout even trying, he made things feel easy, like you were exactly where you were supposed to be. His confidence was infectious, and for a moment, you allowed yourself to believe that you could pull this off.
The car hit a smooth turn, the soft hum of the tires filling the silence. You glanced at Glen, his easy grin still in place, his hand steady in yours. There was something about his presenceâsomething grounding, comforting. Without thinking, you leaned your head against his shoulder, letting out a soft sigh as you let the last bits of tension drain away.
"Thank you," you murmured, your voice barely above a whisper.
Glen glanced down at you, his expression softening. He didnât move, didnât shift awayâhe just stayed still, letting you rest there. His thumb continued its soothing motion across the back of your hand, and he tilted his head slightly toward yours.
"Anytime," he replied, his voice warm and steady. "You know Iâve got you."
For a moment, the world outside the car faded away. It was just the two of you, a quiet moment that reminded you why Glen was your best friend. His support, his calm energyâit was all you needed to take a deep breath and believe in yourself again.
As the car slowed to a stop, signaling your arrival at the red carpet, you felt ready. Maybe it was the way Glen always knew how to bring you back to yourself, or maybe it was just the fact that he was there beside you, exactly where he always seemed to be when you needed him most.
You stole a quick glance at Glen, catching the way his gaze softened as he looked back at you, his hand still comfortably wrapped around yours.
âHey,â he said, the tone shifting just a little, serious but with the same undertone of care. âYouâre gonna be great, okay? And if you need me to do anything, Iâm right here. Just... be you.â
Glen gave your hand one last squeeze, a reassuring pressure that grounded you, and you suddenly felt like you could take on the world.
The driver opened the door, and the bright lights of the red carpet began to stretch ahead of you, already swirling with flashes and faces, the hum of excitement palpable in the air. Glen leaned toward you, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear, his fingers grazing the smooth skin of your neck.
âYouâre gonna shine tonight,â he said quietly, his voice filled with confidence, making you believe it for the first time.
You took a deep breath, steadying yourself, then flashed him a grin. âThanks, Glen.â
He winked. âAnytime, Penguin. Letâs go make some memories.â
With that, you stepped out of the car, Glenâs hand still firmly in yours, ready to face whatever the night would bringâwith him by your side, you felt ready for anything.
The roar of the red carpet hit you the moment you stepped out of the car. A wall of flashing lights and the constant hum of voices calling out names created a dizzying cacophony. For a second, you froze, feeling like a deer caught in headlights. The chaos seemed endless, but Glenâs steady hand on the small of your back was the anchor you needed.
âStay close,â he said quietly, his voice warm and reassuring, almost lost in the noise. He guided you forward with a gentle pressure, his touch never faltering.
Reporters shouted his name, cameras clicked furiously, and fans called out from behind the barriers. Glenâs demeanor shifted effortlessly, the easy confidence you admired about him coming to life under the scrutiny. But even as he navigated the chaos like a pro, his focus never strayed far from you.
When a particularly eager photographer stepped too close, Glen instinctively pulled you in, lacing your arm through his. The motion was protective yet natural, as though heâd done it a thousand times before.
He leaned in slightly, his breath brushing your ear as he whispered, âYou doing okay so far?â
You nodded, the nerves still simmering but far less overwhelming with Glen beside you. âYeah. Itâs just... a lot.â
He chuckled softly, his fingers giving your arm a light squeeze. âItâs always a lot. Just keep smiling and donât trip. Iâve got the rest covered.â
Moments later, you were ushered to the line of reporters waiting for interviews. Glen kept you close, his hand returning to your back as he led you toward the first microphone. The journalistâs attention immediately shifted to him, questions about his latest project firing off one after another.
âThis is Glen Powell, looking dapper as always! Whoâs your stunning guest tonight?â one reporter asked, her eyes flicking to you with interest.
Glen grinned, that signature charm lighting up his face. âThis,â he said, his voice full of pride, âis the best friend who keeps me sane.â He glanced at you, his expression softening as if to emphasize his words.
You felt a flush rise to your cheeks as the reporter laughed. âKeeping Glen Powell on track sounds like a full-time job!â
âYou have no idea,â you replied, finding your confidence in the moment. Glen chuckled beside you, his presence like a shield against the overwhelming spotlight.
The interviews continued, with Glen effortlessly steering the attention toward his projects while making sure you felt included. Whenever he wasnât speaking, his hand either rested lightly on your back or your arm stayed looped through his. The gesture was subtle, but it kept you grounded, a quiet reminder that you werenât alone in this.
In a rare lull between interviews, Glen turned to you, his expression softening as the frenzy of the red carpet seemed to momentarily fade into the background.
âHey,â he said, his voice low, almost drowned out by the noise around you.
You looked up at him, your heart still racing from the whirlwind of the evening.Â
âHey,â you replied, a little breathless.
He reached out, brushing a stray strand of hair that had fallen out of your updo from your face, his fingers lingering just slightly longer than necessary. His touch was light, yet it sent a wave of warmth through you. His eyes searched yours, the usual glint of mischief replaced with something quieter, more sincere. âYou okay?â
The simple question held weight, as if he wasnât just asking about the moment but something deeper. You nodded, your voice catching slightly as you said, âYeah. Thanks to you.â
His lips quirked into a soft smile, his hand dropping back to his side, though the warmth of his touch seemed to linger. âGood. Canât have my Penguin falling apart on me now.â
The moment hung between you, brief but charged with an unspoken connection that neither of you dared to address. Then the chaos of the red carpet surged back to life, pulling you both out of it.
âReady to keep going?â Glen asked, his tone light again as he gestured toward the next line of reporters.
You took a deep breath, straightened your shoulders, and smiled. âLetâs do it.â
With your arm resting gently on his, Glen led you forward, his confidence bolstering your own. And as the night unfolded, you realized that no matter how overwhelming the evening became, youâd be okayâwith Glen by your side.
The ballroom was a masterpiece of elegance, bathed in soft, golden light with tables draped in white linens and adorned with extravagant floral centerpieces. Each table bore name cards in ornate calligraphy, indicating an impressive roster of directors, actors, and other Hollywood heavyweights.
Glen pulled out your chair for you before taking his seat beside you, leaning in briefly to whisper, âYouâve got this. Just be yourself.â
You looked at Glen with a soft smile. âThanks for the vote of confidence, Powell.â
Within moments, the table began filling with familiar faces. To your left sat Richard Linklater himself, his unassuming charm making you feel more at ease than youâd expected. Across the table, a notable actress youâd only ever seen on-screen chatted animatedly with Glen, who was effortlessly charismatic as always.
âGlen,â Richard said with a warm smile, his Texan drawl coming through as he gestured toward you. âYou didnât introduce me to your lovely guest.â
Glen straightened, the corners of his mouth tilting upward as he turned to you. âRichard, this is the best friend who keeps me saneâand whoâs also had to deal with my Dazed and Confused impression far too many times.â
You laughed lightly, shaking Richardâs hand. âItâs true. If I hear him say, âAlright, alright, alright,â one more time, I might disown him.â
Richard chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. âA classic never dies, though, does it?â
âI suppose not,â you conceded with a grin.
The quick banter caught the attention of the others at the table, who joined the conversation with playful remarks of their own. You held your own with ease, even managing to get a genuine laugh out of the actress across from you after a comment about the absurdity of some press junket questions.
Glen, sitting beside you, watched the exchanges with a kind of quiet pride, his gaze lingering on you whenever you spoke. At one point, he leaned closer, his voice low enough for only you to hear. âYouâre killing it. Remind me againâwhy am I not bringing you to all of these things?â
You smirked, taking a sip of water to hide the warmth creeping into your cheeks. âBecause you know Iâd upstage you.â
âTouchĂ©,â he said with a soft laugh, nudging your shoulder playfully.
As the dinner continued, Glen made sure to include you in every conversation, subtly steering the spotlight toward you when someone asked about his current projects. You found yourself talking about Glenâs work ethic and how he somehow managed to juggle it all without losing his sense of humor.
âSounds like you know him pretty well,â Richard observed with a knowing smile.
âI sure hope so after Iâve put up with him for all these years,â you replied, glancing at Glen. âSomeone has to keep him humble.â
The table erupted in laughter, and Glen shook his head, though the unmistakable warmth in his expression betrayed how much he loved every second of it.
When dessert was servedâan artfully plated creation that was almost too pretty to eatâGlen leaned in once more, his tone playful but sincere. âSee? Told you youâd be great.â
You gave him a sidelong glance, a smile tugging at your lips. âNot bad for someone who almost didnât make it out of the hotel room.â
âHey,â he said, his voice softening, âyou belong here, you know.â
The weight of his words settled between you, a quiet affirmation that carried more meaning than the playful banter that had preceded it. You nodded, the nerves youâd been holding onto finally beginning to ease.
The awards show was nothing short of spectacular, a seamless blend of glamour, artistry, and showmanship. The host kept the audience entertained with clever quips and light-hearted jokes, while presenters took the stage to announce the winners in a variety of categories. The room buzzed with energy as names were called, winners delivered heartfelt speeches, and cameras panned over the crowd of celebrities.
Sitting beside Glen, you couldnât help but notice how his leg bounced slightly under the table, a telltale sign of his nerves. Despite the outward appearance of ease he projected, you knew him well enough to see through it. Every now and then, his hand brushed his jawline, the slight stubble catching the light, as he glanced at the stage and back at you with an almost imperceptible smile.
You leaned closer to him during a quieter moment. âHow are you holding up?â you asked softly, your voice barely audible over the applause filling the room.
âBetter with you here,â he replied, his tone casual but sincere. The weight of his words sent a gentle warmth through you, grounding you as much as it did him.
As the night progressed, Glen laughed at the hostâs jokes and applauded the winners, though you could feel his anticipation building as his category grew closer.Â
The glitz and chatter around you seemed to blur as the presenter finally took the stage to announce the nominees for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.Â
You felt Glen shift in his seat, his back straightening as his name was called alongside the other nominees. His hand brushed his thigh, and you noticed him take a deep breath, holding it for a moment before letting it out slowly. Instinctively, you leaned in just enough so your shoulder lightly pressed against his, a silent reminder that you were right there with him.
The presenter opened the envelope, the seconds stretching impossibly long. âAnd the award goes to... Sebastian Stan!â
The room erupted into applause as Sebastian rose from his seat, making his way to the stage. You clapped along with everyone else, but the knot of disappointment in your chest was impossible to ignore. Letting out a small, defeated breath, you glanced over at Glen.
He was smiling politely, clapping for Sebastian, but you saw the flicker of disappointment in his eyes. The kind of flicker only someone who truly knew him could catch. Others at the table offered their own words of encouragement, but Glen only nodded politely, his attention still half-focused on the stage.
Without thinking, you leaned closer, your voice low and meant just for him. âYouâre still the most talented guy in the room.â
You reached over, resting your hand gently on his knee under the table, offering him the kind of comfort words alone couldnât provide. For a moment, his gaze dropped to your hand, then back to your face. A small, grateful smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as his hand briefly covered yours, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
âThank you,â he murmured, his voice soft but full of meaning.
Throughout the rest of the show, Glen leaned into your presence, subtly relying on you to keep him grounded. You noticed the way his body gradually relaxed, the tension in his shoulders easing as the night continued.Â
When another winner gave a particularly heartfelt speech, Glen turned to you with a quiet chuckle. âAt least I donât have to worry about tripping on the way to the stage.â
You laughed softly, the sound drawing out a more genuine smile from him. âSee? Thereâs always a silver lining.â
By the time the final award was announced and the audience began filtering out of the theater, Glen seemed more at ease.Â
As the two of you stood to leave, he placed a hand on your back, guiding you through the crowd. âThanks for keeping me sane tonight,â he said, his voice low but warm.
âAlways,â you replied with a smile, feeling the unspoken connection between you deepen as the evening came to a close.
The after-party was everything you expected it to be: glamorous, extravagant, and a little overwhelming. The main Golden Globes after-party felt less like a celebration and more like a carefully orchestrated networking event. The room was packed with A-list celebrities, producers, directors, and journalists, each armed with a drink in one hand and a carefully curated smile.
Music thumped in the background, but it barely registered over the hum of conversations and the clinking of champagne glasses. Glen stayed by your side at first, introducing you to a few people here and there. You exchanged pleasantries with actors whose faces you recognized from the big screen and smiled politely at directors whose names you tried not to forget.Â
But before long, Glen was pulled away, whisked from one conversation to the next like the star of the evening. You watched as he posed for pictures, his easy charm making every interaction look effortless. Heâd glance back at you occasionally, offering a reassuring smile or a quick wink, but you could tell even he was beginning to feel the strain of the crowd.
You nursed a drink at the edge of the room, trying to stay out of the way while still keeping Glen in your sights. It was easy to lose track of time amidst the chaos, but the constant flow of strangers and small talk started to take its toll. The energy in the room felt electric and draining all at once, and you found yourself wishing for a quieter corner to catch your breath.
After what felt like hours, Glen appeared at your side, his hand lightly brushing your arm to get your attention.Â
âHey,â he said softly, his voice cutting through the noise around you. âThis is⊠a lot, huh?â
You nodded, letting out a small laugh. âItâs a little overwhelming. How are you holding up?â
âIâve smiled so much tonight my face might be stuck this way,â he joked, though there was a hint of exhaustion in his eyes. He glanced around the room, then back at you. âWhat do you say we head to my party? I think Iâve shaken enough hands and posed for enough pictures to last a lifetime.â
The suggestion was like a lifeline, and you didnât hesitate to agree. âI thought youâd never ask.â
Glenâs shoulders relaxed visibly at your answer, and he gave you a small, grateful smile. He offered you his arm, the gesture both protective and grounding as he guided you through the crowd toward the exit. Despite the noise and flashing cameras still lingering near the doorway, you couldnât help but feel a sense of relief as you stepped out into the cool night air.
The car ride to the rooftop bar was quiet, a welcome change from the chaos of the Golden Globes after-party. Glen leaned back against the seat, his shirt now unbuttoned to a second button and the faintest hint of exhaustion in his expression.
You glanced at him, smiling softly. âYou know, most people would just go to bed after a night like this. Not go to another party.â
Glen chuckled, his head turning toward you. âWhat can I say? Iâm not most people.â
When the car pulled up to the rooftop bar, Glen stepped out first, turning back to offer you his hand. âCâmon. Letâs go see everyone.â
The rooftop bar was stunning, its perimeter lined with fairy lights that cast a warm, golden glow. The city skyline sparkled in the distance, and the faint hum of music drifted through the air. Glen had rented the entire space, and as the two of you stepped inside, you were greeted by the cheerful buzz of conversation.
His parents were the first to spot you, their faces lighting up as they hurried over to greet Glen with warm hugs and congratulations.Â
His mom pulled you into an embrace as well, her voice filled with genuine affection. âYou look stunning tonight, sweetheart. And thank you for taking care of our boy out there.â
âAlways,â you replied with a smile, feeling the ease that came with being around Glenâs family.
You scanned the room and spotted Leslie, Glenâs younger sister, waving excitedly from across the bar. She was all smiles as she made her way over, throwing her arms around you in a hug.Â
âItâs been forever!â she exclaimed, pulling back to give you a once-over. âYou look amazing! And that dressâugh, youâre killing me.â
âYouâre one to talk,â you teased, taking in her own dress. âYou look incredible.â
Glen was quickly pulled into conversations with friends and other guests, his charm and warmth on full display as he moved through the room. You stayed behind with Leslie, the two of you settling into a quieter corner of the bar.
âSo,â you said, leaning in conspiratorially. âTell me everything about the engagement. I need details.â
Leslieâs face lit up, and she launched into a detailed recounting of the proposalâhow her fiancĂ© had asked, the secret planning, how he included her friends and family in on the surprise. She showed you the ring, a design that perfectly suited her, and the two of you gushed over wedding plans.
âIâm thinking late spring,â Leslie said, twirling her glass of wine between her fingers. âSomething outdoors, simple but elegant. Glen keeps trying to offer to pay for everything, but I want to keep it low-key.â
âThat sounds perfect,â you said, smiling. âAnd knowing Glen, heâll find a way to contribute whether you want him to or not.â
Leslie laughed, nodding. âOh, I know. Heâs the best, though. Weâre lucky to have him.â
âYeah, we really are.â Your gaze drifted across the room to where Glen was laughing with a small group of friends, his easy smile making your own lips curve upward. His hand was resting casually in the pocket of his suit pants.
âYouâve got that look again,â Leslie said, a teasing lilt in her tone.
You blinked, snapping your gaze back to her. âWhat look?â
She grinned knowingly and nudged your arm with her elbow. âThe âIâm totally into Glen but Iâll never admit itâ look.â
Your eyes widened, heat rushing to your cheeks. âWhat? Thatâs ridiculous,â you said quickly, trying to laugh it off. âYouâre crazy.â
âUh-huh,â Leslie said, leaning back against the bar with a smirk. âSure I am.â
You rolled your eyes, determined to brush off her teasing. âHeâs my best friend, Les. Thatâs-â But before you could finish your sentence, Glen glanced over at the two of you. His eyes found yours across the room, and when he smiledâsoft, warm, and undeniably genuineâyou felt your words falter.Â
You didnât even realize you had stopped speaking until Leslie let out a low chuckle.
âOh my God,â she whispered, barely containing her laughter. âYouâve got it bad.â
Realizing what just happened, you tore your gaze away from Glen, your face burning.Â
âI do not,â you muttered, but the weak protest only made Leslie laugh harder.
She shook her head, her grin widening. âYouâre adorable when youâre flustered. Honestly, Iâve suspected this for years, but that little moment right there? Total confirmation.â
âOkay, enough,â you said, waving your hands as if to physically push the conversation away. âLetâs focus less on your brother and my nonexistent love life. Letâs get back to your wedding.â
Leslie just smirked, clearly not buying your denial. âFine, but for the record? Heâs totally into you too.â
You gave Leslie a confused look, followed by a doubtful laugh. âYeah, right?â you said, your voice tinged with disbelief.
Leslie raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed by your self-doubt. âWhy do you think he wouldnât be into you?â she asked, crossing her arms as if she were gearing up to debate.
You sighed, glancing down at your drink. âI meanâŠlook at him,â you said, gesturing vaguely in Glenâs direction. âHe could have literally anyone he wants. Models, actresses, anyone. And Iâm justâŠâ You trailed off, shrugging.
Leslie tilted her head, studying you with a knowing smile. âJust what?â she pressed.
âJust me,â you finished weakly, feeling a little silly for saying it out loud.
Leslie let out an exaggerated sigh, shaking her head like she couldnât believe what she was hearing. âOkay, first of all, thatâs ridiculous. Second of allââ She paused, leaning in slightly for emphasis. âYouâre the one he asked to be his date tonight. Not a model, not an actress, you.â
You blinked, momentarily caught off guard by the truth of her words. âThatâs just because weâre friends,â you said, though your voice lacked conviction.
âFriends,â Leslie repeated, her tone dripping with sarcasm. âRight. Because friends definitely look at each other the way he looks at you.â
You felt your cheeks heat up again. âHe does not look at me any type of way,â you insisted, but Leslie wasnât buying it.
She smirked, nodding toward Glen, who was now making his way across the room in your direction.
âSure he doesnât,â she said, her voice teasing. âBut just in case youâre still in denial, why donât you pay attention when he gets over here? Youâll see what I mean.â
Before you could respond, Glen reached the two of you, his presence immediately drawing your attention.Â
âHey,â he said, flashing that easy smile of his. âAm I interrupting something, or can I steal her for a bit?â
Leslieâs grin widened as she gave you a pointed look. âNot at all,â she said sweetly, stepping aside. âSheâs all yours.â
You shot her a subtle glare, but Leslie just winked at you before turning to join the rest of the group. As Glenâs attention shifted back to you, your heart did that annoying fluttery thing it always seemed to do when he was around.
âYou okay?â he asked, his gaze flicking over your face as if checking for any signs of discomfort.
âYeah,â you said, forcing a smile. âJust catching up with Leslie.â
âGood,â he said, his smile softening. âSheâs been excited to see you. I think sheâs secretly more interested in hanging out with you than me tonight.â
You laughed, the sound helping to ease the tension swirling in your chest. âWell, to be fair, I am pretty great,â you teased, falling back into your usual banter with him.
âCanât argue with that,â Glen said, his tone light, but there was something in his eyes that lingered a little too long, something that made your breath catch just slightly.
The atmosphere shifted subtly as the music transitioned to something slower, a beat just mellow enough to set a softer, almost romantic mood. The chatter in the room seemed to quiet slightly, replaced by the rhythmic sway of the melody. Glen glanced toward the small dance floor, where a few of his friends were starting to pair off, and then turned back to you.
âCome on,â he said, extending a hand toward you, his smile warm and inviting.
You shook your head immediately, taking a small step back. âYou know I donât dance,â you reminded him, your voice firm but playful.
His grin only widened, clearly undeterred. âAnd you know I donât take no for an answer,â he teased, stepping closer and gently taking your hand before you could protest further.
âGlen,â you said, a hint of exasperation in your tone, but he was already pulling you toward the dance floor.
âRelax,â he said with a laugh, glancing back at you. âIâll lead. All you have to do is follow.â
You sighed in resignation, realizing there was no escaping this. When you reached the dance floor, you placed a hand on his shoulder, your fingers brushing against the soft fabric of his dress shirt. He wrapped an arm securely around your waist, pulling you just close enough that you could feel the warmth radiating from him.
âYouâve done this before,â he said lightly as he started to guide you to the rhythm of the music.
âOnce or twice,â you admitted, though you still felt slightly self-conscious. âBut Iâm warning youâIâm not great at it.â
âYouâre doing fine,â he assured you, his voice low and steady, as if the rest of the room didnât exist.
Out of the corner of your eye, you caught sight of Leslie standing by the bar. She was watching you with an unmistakable smirk, her arms crossed in triumph. When your eyes met hers, she gave you a knowing look, the kind that said, See? Told you so.
You rolled your eyes at her and shook your head, trying to silently tell her to knock it off. Glen noticed the exchange, his brow furrowing slightly as he glanced over at Leslie and then back down at you.Â
âWhat am I missing?â he asked, his voice tinged with curiosity.
âNothing,â you said quickly, though your cheeks were already starting to warm.
âDoesnât look like nothing,â he said, his tone teasing now. âWhatâs going on between you two?â
âLeslieâs justâŠbeing Leslie,â you said vaguely, hoping to leave it at that.
But Glen wasnât letting it go. He tilted his head, a slow smile spreading across his face as realization started to dawn on him.Â
âWait a minuteâŠâ he said, his gaze narrowing slightly. âIs she messing with you about something?â
âNot really,â you said, trying to sound casual.
âNot really?â he repeated, clearly unconvinced. His eyes flicked back toward Leslie, who was now openly grinning at the two of you. âOh, sheâs definitely messing with you about something,â he said with a laugh.
You groaned, your head dropping slightly as you muttered, âIâm going to kill her.â
Glen chuckled, his hand on your waist giving a reassuring squeeze. âDonât worry, Iâll protect you,â he said, his tone playful but his smile soft.
For a moment, you forgot about Leslie entirely, your focus shifting back to Glen as you moved together in time with the music. His gaze lingered on you, his expression unexpectedly tender, and you felt your heart skip in a way that made you wonder if Leslie might actually have a point after all.
As the slower song faded out, you felt a moment of relief. But then the next song started, and your heart sank a little as the unmistakable notes of a love ballad filled the air. The kind that spoke of longing and intimacy, the kind that made you suddenly hyper aware of the fact that you were still in Glenâs arms.
You glanced up at him, your lips parting to excuse yourself, but before you could step away, his hand on your back shifted, a gentle but deliberate pressure that kept you in place.
âStay,â he said softly, his voice low enough that only you could hear.
âGlen, Iââ you started, already shaking your head. There was no way you could dance to a love song with your best friend. It felt tooâŠloaded.
âJust one more,â he murmured, and when your eyes met his, whatever protest you had ready fell away. There was something in the way he looked at youâsomething unspoken but undeniable. It wasnât just a friendly look. It was softer, deeper, and for a moment, it left you breathless.
You nodded, barely, and he smiledâjust a small, private curve of his lips that made your stomach flip.
He pulled you just a little closer this time, close enough that your chest brushed against his. The hold on your back shifted, his hand sliding just slightly lower, resting at the curve where your back met your waist. It wasnât inappropriateâjust enough to feel a little less like friendship and a little more like something else.
Without thinking, you leaned into him, your cheek resting lightly against his chest. His warmth was comforting, grounding, and you closed your eyes for a moment, letting yourself get lost in the rhythm of the song and the steady rise and fall of his breathing.
You felt him tilt his head, the faintest brush of his cheek against the top of yours. It was such a small gesture, but it sent your heart into a quiet frenzy, a rhythm that seemed to echo in time with the music.
Neither of you said a word as you moved together, swaying gently to the melody. The first verse passed, then the chorus, and you couldnât help but notice how natural it felt to be here, like the rest of the world had melted away.
The song came to an end, the final notes fading into a hum of conversation and clinking glasses around you. Glen didnât move right away, and for a moment, neither did you. You stayed in his arms, feeling the warmth of his hand still pressed against your back, the steady beat of his heart against your cheek.
But then someone called his name from across the room, breaking the fragile bubble that had surrounded you both. Glenâs arm slipped away, though his hand lingered on your elbow for a second longer than necessary.
âIâll be right back,â he said softly, his eyes lingering on yours, as if reluctant to leave.
You nodded, offering a small smile, and watched as he crossed the room to greet a new arrival. The absence of his touch left you feeling untethered, a sudden awareness of just how much youâd let yourself melt into him during that dance.
Needing a moment to collect yourselfâand maybe something stronger than a moment of quietâyou made your way to the bar. You ordered a glass of wine and took a steadying sip, trying to push the last few minutes out of your mind.
Of course, Leslie found you before you even made it halfway through your drink.
âSo,â she started, leaning casually against the bar with an unmistakable smirk. âThat wasâŠsomething.â
You rolled your eyes, though you could feel the blush already creeping up your neck. âDonât start.â
âStart what?â she asked innocently, though her grin was anything but. âIâm just saying, I donât think Iâve ever seen my brother look at someone like that. Or hold someone like that. Orââ
âLeslie,â you warned, though the heat in your cheeks betrayed your attempt at composure.
She laughed, clearly enjoying herself. âIâm just saying, for someone who insists she doesnât dance, you looked awfully comfortable out there dancing with my brother.â
âThat doesnât mean anything,â you replied, taking another sip of your wine in a futile attempt to drown your nerves.
âDoesnât it?â she countered, raising an eyebrow. âBecause from where I was standing, it looked like something more.â
You shot her a sharp look, but she just shrugged, still grinning.
âRelax,â she said, nudging your arm playfully. âIâm not about to make a big announcement or anything. But if you donât see it yetâŠâ She trailed off, giving you a knowing look before gesturing subtly toward Glen, who was still across the room, laughing with a small group of friends.
You followed her gaze despite yourself, and your heart gave a traitorous little lurch at the sight of him. His smile was easy and charming, but every now and then, his eyes flicked toward the bar, as if checking to see if you were still there.
âSee what I mean?â Leslie said softly, pulling your attention back to her.
You shook your head, trying to play it off. âYouâre reading into things.â
âAm I?â she challenged, her tone light but her expression serious. âBecause Iâve known Glen my whole life, and Iâve never seen him look at anyone the way he looks at you. So, maybe itâs time you stop convincing yourself itâs all in your head.â
Her words hit harder than you expected, and you found yourself speechless, staring down into your glass of wine as if it held the answers you were so desperately trying to avoid.
Leslie let the silence linger for a moment before giving your arm another playful nudge. âJust think about it, okay?â
And with that, she pushed off the bar and disappeared back into the crowd, leaving you alone with your swirling thoughtsâand the undeniable truth you were no longer sure you could ignore.
You stepped away from the bar, glass of wine in hand, and gravitated toward a quieter corner of the rooftop. The laughter and conversation from the party grew softer with every step, the music fading into a pleasant hum in the background. A gentle breeze brushed against your skin as you approached the railing, the Los Angeles skyline glittering like a sea of stars before you.
You leaned against the cool metal and took a slow sip of your wine, your thoughts drifting back to Leslieâs words. Was she onto something? No, she couldnât be. Glen was your best friend, the one constant in your life through every twist and turn. You would know if he felt something for you⊠right?
But then againâŠ
You sighed and rested your elbow on the railing, pressing your glass lightly to your lips. Leslie had known Glen her entire life. If anyone could read him, it was her. And the way she spokeâlike sheâd been holding onto this knowledge for a whileâleft you with an uncomfortable sense of doubt.
Could she be right? Could you really have missed something that big?
The sound of footsteps approaching pulled you from your thoughts. You looked over, expecting another party guest, but instead, you found Glen standing beside you. The velvet tuxedo jacket was now off, and his hair was a little mussed from probably running his hand through it one too many times, but his smile was warm and familiar.
âHey,â he said softly, leaning casually against the railing next to you. âYou okay?â
You managed a small smile and nodded. âYeah, just needed a breather.â
He studied you for a moment, his gaze calm and steady, before arching a brow. âThis wouldnât have anything to do with Leslie pestering you at the bar, would it?â
You rolled your eyes, though your lips twitched with the hint of a smile. âNo.â
âUh-huh,â Glen said, clearly not buying it. âBecause Leslie may or may not have told me to come find you.â
Your heart gave a jolt, and you turned to look at him. âShe what?â
âShe didnât say why,â Glen added quickly, holding up a hand as if to reassure you. âBut⊠she saidâŠenough.â
âEnough?â you asked, your voice quieter now.
He hesitated, his smile fading into something softer, something more sincere. âEnough to make me realize Iâve been putting this off for too long.â
Before you could ask what he meant, Glen stepped closer. His eyes searched yours, as though he were trying to gauge your reaction before saying anything else.Â
âI wanted to thank you,â he said, his voice low. âFor coming with me tonight. For being here for meânot just tonight, but always.â
You opened your mouth to respond, but the words wouldnât come. There was something in his tone, in the way he looked at you, that made your heart beat just a little faster.
âAnd I need you to know,â he continued, taking another step closer, âhow much you mean to me.â
The space between you was nearly nonexistent now, and for a moment, neither of you said a word. His eyes searched yours, his hand twitching at his side like he wanted to reach for you but wasnât sure if he should.
You felt it thenâthat shift Leslie had hinted at, the one youâd been too afraid to fully acknowledge. This wasnât just your best friend standing in front of you. This was Glen, the man who had been at your side for years, looking at you like you were the only person in the world.
He took a deep breath and leaned in slightly, pausing when your noses were almost touching. His eyes flickered to your lips, then back to your eyes, giving you a chance to pull away. But you didnât.
Instead, you met his gaze, your heart thundering in your chest.
Glenâs tongue darted out to wet his bottom lip, and then his eyes fluttered shut as he raised a hand to your face. His palm was warm as it cupped your cheek, his thumb brushing lightly against your skin.
You closed your eyes just as his lips found yours.
The kiss was soft at first, tentative, as though he was afraid you might pull away. But when you didnât, when you leaned into him and placed a hand lightly against his chest, he deepened the kiss, his other arm wrapping around your waist to pull you closer.
The world around you fadedâthe music, the laughter, the skyline. All that mattered was the way Glenâs lips moved against yours, the way he held you like heâd been waiting for this moment for far too long.
For a moment, neither of you spoke. The world seemed to hold its breath as you both stood there, processing what had just happened. Glenâs hand lingered on your cheek, his thumb tracing soft, absentminded circles against your skin. Your heart raced, the warmth of his touch grounding you in the surreal, breathtaking reality of the moment.
Finally, Glen broke the silence, his lips curving into that familiar, playful grin that always managed to put you at ease. âSoâŠâ he began, his tone light but his eyes still holding that intensity from before. âDoes this mean youâll let me take you to next yearâs Globes too?â
The laugh bubbled out of you before you could stop it, breaking the tension in the most perfect way. You shook your head, resting your forehead against his chest as a smile spread across your lips. âWeâll see if you behave, Cowboy.â
He chuckled, the sound rumbling through his chest where your head rested. âBehave? Iâm a perfect gentleman,â he said, his voice tinged with mock indignation.
You pulled back just enough to look up at him, arching a brow. âOh, really? Perfect gentlemen donât usually kiss their best friends on rooftops in the middle of a party.â
His grin widened as he shrugged, his hand still resting lightly on your waist. âMaybe I got tired of being just your best friend.â
Your breath caught again at the sincerity in his tone, the way his teasing words carried so much truth. Glen had always been charming, always quick with a joke or a flirtatious comment, but this felt different. This felt real.
You didnât respond right away, unsure of what to say, but instead of pushing, Glen just smiled and leaned down to press a quick, gentle kiss to your forehead. And with that, he stepped back slightly, though his hand still lingered on your waist, as if to let you know that even with the space between you, he was still there, still yours.
You tilted your head back to look up at him, searching his eyes for any hint of hesitation, but all you saw was sincerity. The smile that still lingered on his lips wasnât one of teasing; it was genuine, like he was relieved to have crossed that line with you.
âI donât know what to say,â you confessed, your voice quieter than usual. âThis is... a lot to take in, you know?â
Glen nodded, his thumb brushing lightly over the fabric of your dress, a small gesture that seemed to ground you.Â
âYeah,â he said softly, âI get it.â He leaned in closer, his lips brushing against your ear as he added, âBut Iâve never been more sure of anything in my life.â
His words sent a wave of warmth through you, and for a brief moment, you closed your eyes, letting yourself truly hear what he was saying. The uncertainty that had clouded your mind earlier began to dissipate, replaced by something far more powerfulâtrust.
âI just donât want to mess things up, Glen,â you admitted, looking up at him again, your voice low but clear. âWeâve been friends for so long. I donât want to lose that.â
His hand gently cupped your face, his thumb now tracing along your jawline as he spoke, his voice steady. âWe wonât lose it,â he promised, his gaze never leaving yours. âI wouldnât let that happen. Weâre in this together, okay?â
You nodded, the sincerity in his words making your heart swell. âOkay,â you whispered, the word feeling like a vow in the quiet space between you.
For a moment, neither of you moved, as if the world had paused just for you two. It was peaceful, despite everythingâthe chaos of the party, the swirling emotions inside you. Glen was here, right in front of you, and he was offering you something more. Something you hadnât expected but couldnât deny.
Then, in the silence that followed, he grinned, that familiar playful glint returning to his eyes. âSo, does this mean youâll let me take you on a date?â
You tilted your head slightly, looking up at him, and couldnât help but smile at the way his eyes twinkled with excitement. He was waiting, his expression open and genuine, and suddenly, it didnât feel like anything was uncertain anymore. The nerves, the doubtsâthey melted away in the warmth of his gaze.
"Yeah," you said softly, your voice filled with the quiet confidence that had come from years of friendship and, somehow, this unexpected moment. "I'd like that."
His smile deepened, and for a second, it was as if time stood still. He reached out, brushing a stray piece of hair from your face, his hand lingering on your cheek.
Without another word, he leaned in, his lips capturing yours in a soft kiss. It wasnât rushed, nor was it shy. It was everything you hadnât known you needed.
When he pulled back, his forehead rested gently against yours. You both stayed there for a moment, eyes closed, as if savoring the moment before the world could rush back in.
"Come on," Glen said, pulling you gently by the hand, âLetâs not keep everyone waiting.â
As he led you back toward the party, his fingers intertwined with yours, and the moment felt complete. Youâd crossed the line, yes, but it was the best kind of line to crossâone that made you excited for whatever came next.
You shared one last look, a silent promise between you two, before re-entering the party, side by side, ready for whatever the nightâand your futureâheld.

Dialogue in my head that was too good to keep to myself...
Starscream: That's it! I don't care about the fact that you saved my father anymore! I am NOT one of your recruits, students or underlings! You will cease and desist ordering me around or so help you, I'll- Heatwave: You'll WHAT?! The amnesty status of Decepticons on Earth is fragile enough as it is since the tension between Optimus and Rodimus! And might I remind you that unlike Cyclonus, you DO have a criminal record so technically, you're also on probation! So one false move and you're wings are clipped! Literally! Starscream:... Right now, that sacrifice seems worth it if it will get you off my back! Heatwave: You think I like having to watch your bumper? I don't! But I have to because you always get it into trouble because you either never stay out of trouble or never know when to mute it, Screamer! Starscream: You expect me to live by a human standard?! Heatwave: I expect you to live by a law abiding standard! Cody: *looks between them bickering and rolls his eyes leaving* Starscream: I DO obey the law! I just want to live as a Decepticon! Or is that criminalized on Earth too?! Heatwave: No, it's not, but how come your father, Glyph and Constructicons can follow Earth regulations and-... Aw, slag, I can't believe I'm standing up for them... Starscream: Aha! So the mask slips off! You ARE just following me around hoping I'll slip up so you can play hero! You Autobots are all the same! You think you are the standard of sainthood and every other Transformer is either a savage or a criminal! Why do I even bother playing nice when you all have already decided I'm guilty for just existing?! Heatwave: No! You're guilty because you actually committed war crimes! So spare me the victim card! Starscream: The war brought out the worst on both factions yet only Decepticons are held accountable! I would say that my "victim card" has meaning! Then again, what would YOU know?! You didn't fight in the war! You don't know the horrors I went through that forced my hand! You literally slept through it! You don't know the first thing about genuine suffering! Heatwave: *is insulted* Take. That. Back. Now! Starscream: No! Heatwave: Take it back! Starscream: I will not apologize for telling the truth! Heatwave: *rings Starscream's neck* TAKE IT BAAAAAAACK!! Starscream: *chokes and then grinds his teeth kicking Heatwave in the stomach getting himself free* How DARE you assault me! I'll rip your optics out with my bare hands! Heatwave: I'm gonna dismantle you piece by piece starting with your big voice box! And iceberg comes between them.... Cyclonus: ENOUGH!! *he turns to Starscream* Starscream, Earth was gracious enough to pardon you for your crimes. The least you can do is abide by their rules and stay out of trouble. Starscream: But, father, he- Cyclonus: I know what he did and how he sees us! You think I feel nothing when people only look at my faction and nothing else? Of course I get insulted, hurt and I hate having to constantly prove myself! But we all have to bear it until things change! Until then, be patient and conduct yourself with dignity! Do I make myself clear?! Starscream:... Yes, father. Cyclonus: And as for you, Heatwave, I stand by my words, but just because I walk the walk doesn't mean I am willing to take it sitting down! Not anymore! Heatwave: Huh?! Cyclonus: I have had enough of you circling around at my feet and everyone else's waiting for us to take one step out of line like a Sharkticon waiting to strike its prey! You never leave us alone, you call us slurs including our presence and worst of all, you encourage your own cadets to practice this behaviour! You should be ashamed of yourself! Heatwave:................. I... Cyclonus: I have reported your behaviour to BOTH Primes and they both agree that it qualifies as problematic and harassment! They are on their way in person to address your behaviour and everyone else's! I suggest you reflect and accept YOUR wrongdoings with grace *leaves and Cody is there looking at both Heatwave and Starscream with contempt before leaving*
When I remember they all in the same timeline I giggle

HEAR ME OUT!!!! se-mi with comphet reader (angst) đđđ
â§ââș you'd have to stop the world just to stop the feeling
se-mi x fem!reader
⊠synopsis: you're so used to this perfect life. your career and your boyfriend. and it's miserable but is comfortable as it can be. until you met her, and now you'll have to spend the rest of your life waking up to be nothing more than his girlfriend, thinking about her saying "i told you so".
content: angst, comphet! reader, se-mi falls for thano's 'straight' girlfriend
authors note: thank you for the request! clearly inspired by good luck babe by chappell roan because i love to suffer jsjdfkfkj, i hope you like it! im sorry ive been posting more short stuff, the week is vvv rough on me with work but ill do everything i can to not stop posting! even if its a small work
â§ââș your boyfriend was acting weird. i mean, he's a man. the first thing that came to mind was 'he's cheating'
â§ââș if the bastard was cheating you would kill him. it was enough that he used both of your savings to place them in bitcoin, and of course.. lost it all.
â§ââș and you forgave him about that (kinda) but cheating? yeah no. you didn't wanted to be like one of those actresses with a cheating boyfriend everyone knew about.
â§ââș so when you decided to follow him a random night and a man invited you to play a game, you were all against it.
â§ââș you were a prestigious actress for god's sakes.
â§ââș "oh. i thought you wanted to know where your boyfriend was heading?"
your eyes widen. what was this? some hooker shit? a betting house?
fine. you needed to find out where he is.
â§ââș of course you ended joining the game to see where your boyfriend was. you dumbass.
â§ââș waking up in a room full of strangers, was sure an.. experience.
â§ââș confused, you stood up. where was your stupid boyfriend and why was he here?
â§ââș "thanos?" i called him, scared. "baby?"
â§ââș as you saw a group of people gathering around a very familiar voice, your fear turned into anger. you ran, pushing everyone sorrounding him.
â§ââș "are you kidding me? this is where you got in? you fucking idiot" i hit his arm as he stared wide eyed at me.
"b-baby what are you doing here?" he chuckled nervous. "you should go home, this is not safe-"
"i wish! but you know, i was following you thinking you were cheating but what the fuck is this? did you lost more money? why are you here-"
"well, i came to win back the money we lost, dont worry baby. when i win this we'll be free!"
i can't believe this.
â§ââș as you turned around to fumble alone, a girl touched your shoulder.
"oh my god, you're the actress on my favorite tv show! can i get a picture"
oh god. here too?
with the best fake smile, you nodded, and suddenly, the same crowd that was sorrounding thanos was now admiring you.
â§ââș there was no doubt that after the first game you wanted to kill him.
"we die!? you brought us to a place where we fucking die if we dont pass the games!?" i screamed at him
"chill baby... youre making a scene. remember that people are watching"
"well, who cares? theyre probably going to die in like two days! just like us you idiot"
â§ââș but just like that you kept playing with your... lovely boyfriend. and his new best friend apparently. god you needed a girl in here. you missed your girlfriends.
so indeed, your boyfriend got you a girl.
â§ââș "i got you a friend so you can stop being... so angry all the time. enjoy life babe, this is a one time experience"
the second game was about to start, we needed two people more in our group.
i was about to punch him as i looked at her.
oh.
â§ââș "hi..i'm-" hello? why was my brain shutting down?
"i know. i think everyone here knows apparently" she plays with her piercing lip, smiling.
â§ââș that made you so nervous???? she got you smiling and twirling your hair??
oh you haven't felt like this in.. so long.
â§ââș so yeah, with every game and her being the only girl (besides you) in the group, you two got close.
like.. way too close.
â§ââș holding hands, protecting eachother, laughing together. you spent more time with her than with your own boyfriend.
â§ââș in your defense, every single minute with her felt... like something you never experienced with him.
â§ââș "why are you still with thanos if you think he's stupid?" she said, rolling her eyes and manspreading besides me, while i kept complaining about my boyfriend.
"he's nice.. he really is"
"you hate him, i dont think is normal to hate your boyfriend you know?"
â§ââș you knew. but what else can you do?
you told her. she knew all abouth how your parents raise you to be this perfect actress, with her perfect husband.
and you already let them down with the 'perfect husband'. you can't disappoint them again.
â§ââș so when her touch made you sigh, when she caressed your hair as you stared into her eyes, when she held your hand to feel you close in every game, trying to protect you more than your boyfriend ever did, or when she whispered sweet nothing's to your ear, making you shiver, all you could do was ignore it.
â§ââș of course, when she realized that it was stupid and you weren't actually going to leave your boyfriend and your perfect life for her, she gave up, looking for something (or someone) that could make her feel better.
â§ââș please, she was hot. she didn't need you.
â§ââș she would never admit that in every girl she kissed after that, she was picturing you.
the way she would be biting your soft pouty lips, how she'd show you your boyfriend was nothing against her. she'd kiss you until you were out of breath, her hands roaming through your body, grabbing your waist, your hips.
she bit her lip as she kept picturing your hands wrapped around her neck, going down her back up and down.
â§ââș she was so down bad it was making her stupid.
she had to do something about this stupid.. crush.
â§ââș so was it a surprise when you found her making out with a random girl in the bathroom? not really.
but was it a surprise when she stared right to your eyes while she did it? i mean.. a little.
â§ââș you scoffed, washing your hands.
"that's disgusting. there are bathroom stalls for that" i said to both.
as the girl turned around, se-mi asked her to leave, saying that 'she'd take care of her later'. ew.
â§ââș she turned around, pissed. yeah, maybe you can get in her head for hours and hours, but ruining her makeout session? you were out of limit.
â§ââș "listen princess-"
"don't call me princess after you made out with a random " i mumble, bitter. "and don't scream at me pretending like you hate me"
her eyes filled with anger.
"listen to me, you can fake being this perfect actress with your boyfriend and everyone else" she said, pushing me against the wall, one of her arms on top of my head, trapping me there. "but not with me. you think i dont see your little lustful eyes? the way you stare at me how i bet you never stared at your boyfriend?"
"b-bullsh-"
"yeah. whatever" she scoffed. "lie to yourself if you want, go fuck the entire common room to prove yourself that you're this pretty straight princess that your parents want you to be, but don't play with me" with every word she said, she got closer to me. our heated bodies breathing almost in sync.
"tell me im lying princess. tell me that if i" she grabbed my chin, softly caressing her lips with mine. my body shivering as my hand grabs her bicep, my nails clawing there, leaving 'c' marks, to ground myself. "do this, you dont feel a thing. c'mon. stop me, pretty girl. tell me you shouldn't" she whispered against my mouth.
â§ââș but the truth is that you couldn't move. you couldn't back away, but you couldn't do this to thanos, to your parents. it wasn't fair.
dad? he had all the contacts he wanted. he would destroy your career in seconds. mom? would never let you step your own house again. oh and your boyfriend? would clearly ruin you on the internet. probably leaking everything about you in seconds. your own fans? people are not as open as we expect them to be.
you can't do this. you can't let yourself have this.
â§ââș "im sorry se-mi" a tear fell, almost wetting her face too because of how close we were.
her eyes shut close. she mumbled something under her breath as she quickly stepped away, breaking whatever moment we had going in.
"i dont want you close to me again" she said, turning to leave as i rushed to follow.
"please, a-at least let me have you as a friend se-mi please" i begged her. tears couldn't stop falling to my cheeks.
"i can't" she said, turning to face me. her eyes roaming my features with a hint of guilt and sadness. "how can i be your friend when i'm so.." she stops, pressing her lips together. "i-i picture you in every girl i kiss. i can't be your friend.
i bit my lip as i hug her. she stiffens but slowly lets herself go, hugging me back. her hand on my hair, softly caressing it for comfort.
"if we get out of here and.. you decide that you're done being his perfect wife, and maybe you want to be happy..with me..i'll be waiting. i promise" she whispers in my ear, kissing my temple.
â§ââș so it goes. after the next game, the nerves make everyone vote to leave and just like that you're actually out.
â§ââș and althought you don't hear from her, you know she's still friends with your boyfriend.
and although she doesn't hear from you, she follows your life like she did. watching every episode of every single show you're in, following you on social media.
and although you guys never cross paths again, if you or your boyfriend ever invite her to 'the wedding', she will throw that invitation to the trash, where it belongs.
â§ââș you miss her every night. mostly, when you wake up feeling cold against the person that's supposed to be your future. you're sure you love her.
and she misses you too. and she knows she loves you. that's why she never tries to contact you again.
â§ââș because she loves watching you smile. even if its not because of her.

omg i LOVE the concept of cookies as asks so can i have a sugar cookie, #8, with chocolate drizzle and marshmallows thank yeww đ
t-t-total idia victory!
order #8, sugar with chocolate drizzle and marshmallows
*à©â©â§âË internet connection
tropes: ex (mutuals) to lovers, roommate au characters: idia additional info: romantic, gender neutral reader, reader is yuu
It was the closest experience to dating Idia had ever gotten, and likely the only experience he'd ever get again.
Three months.
Three perfect, blissful months.
That's 13.0357 weeks, 91.2501 days, 2,190 hours of chats, voice calls, and texts with someone he had almost considered his.
He was raising his confidence stats to ask them out when they sent him a message, which would be their last:
"router busted. sry. will get it fixed soon"
That was weeks ago.
Idia couldn't blame them. They were going to get tired of him eventually, and ghosting him, sucky as it was, was still the easiest way to let him down.
Then, at least, he could pretend that they were telling the truth.
"Come on, Idy! This is your chance! You'll never get over them if you never meet anyone else!"
Ortho's cheery, hopeful words twist Idia's stomach with guilt. He knows that. Of course he knows that.
He buries himself deeper into his blankets. "I don't want anyone else,"
"It's only for a few weeks. Maybe you'll make friends!"
Unlikely. Idia doesn't have the social XP for that. Who would want to be friends with him, anyway?
He can't even keep Magicord mutuals.
Then again, he has no other choice.
The Prefect had asked to stay somewhere with a high-speed internet connection while post-S.T.Y.X. Ramshackle was being repaired, and Ortho had volunteered Idia.
And his room.
Ugh. Why can't anything go right for once?
Idia hides under his covers like a small child, drowning the sound of the door and voices in PreMo.
He honestly doesn't know a lot about you. He doesn't get out much, and even if he did, you've always got those OP normie friends around you.
He knows you don't talk much. He's actually never heard you talk at all.
Whatever.
Idia only emerges from his blankets when his ears are ringing from the music and his body is sore from stillness.
He takes off his headphones and reads the room.
There's Ortho, projecting a beam of light on the wall, and there's Grim, chasing it, and there's you.
You seem a little out of place, awkwardly sitting on the floor when there are chairs and tables, your bags still at your sides, unpacked.
Something about you makes him feel at ease. Weird.
"Oh- Idy!" Ortho chimes. Idia jumps, and then everyone is looking at him. Crap.
"We were wondering when you'd come out! The Prefect has a question for you!"
You give Ortho a panicked look, as if to say you most certainly did not have a question for him. Idia has his own suspicions.
"About the Wi-Fi," Ortho chimes. "They really need to get online."
Idia narrows his eyes. His brother can handle something as simple as that.
"...O-okay," he mumbles. "I guess."
He reluctantly gets out of bed and sits beside you. At least with an objective, he isn't so nervous. You hand him your phone, some sad secondhand thing, and he puts in the password for you.
"Lemme know if it's slow. I've been working on upgrading the router, and it's been a little laggy," he hands your phone to you.
"Shouldn't be a problem, though."
You take it. "I can't complain, I don't have a router at all right now,"
Idia's face turns red.
His eyes go wide.
He can't place it, at first. What's that weird feeling? What is it about you-
You notice his expression. "Uh... did I say something?"
And when you speak again, just like that, Idia jumps to his feet.
"IT-IT'S YOU!"
"You?" Grim asks.
"You?" Ortho echoes.
"Me?"
Idia feels like he's losing his mind, his anxiety cracking and breaking away, shock taking its place.
"Y-yes, you! I know that voice! Don't you- you recognize mine too, don't you?!"
Your eyes widen.
"Oh... no... no way,"
"I-I can't believe this!" he says, suddenly grinning. "You weren't lying about the router, it must've got totally busted when S.T.Y.X- oh, crap. IT'S ALL MY FAULT!"
"Idy..." Ortho warns. "Your heart rate is-"
"I know! I know, I just- I can't believe it- you, of all people,"
He sits again, shaking. It takes you a moment to catch up.
"I... I wasn't lying," you mumble. "I've been trying to get a decent internet connection since we got back, but..."
"This is the guy?" Grim mumbles to you. He is ignored.
Idia feels lightheaded. This isn't real. This isn't happening. This is some weird dream.
He can't seem to stop grinning, anyway.
"Will you go out with me?!" he asks, without thinking at all. But not even the sinking feeling in his stomach is enough to ground him.
You stare back, your own eyes wide.
And then, in your familiar voice, in your familiar easing presence: "I'd like that,"

You canât breathe, itâs the only thing you can think of as the door swings open and your pulled into the house, you canât breathe, you canât get any oxygen into your lungs as they try desperately to get you to clam down, as they try desperately to try and understand whatâs going on but you canât speak because you canât breathe and in a moment of panic they shout âIâm calling Leah ok.â That seems to help a bit as you let out a gasped no.
They looked confused as you still try to draw in a breath but you donât want them to call Leah and that doesnât seem to make any sense, nothing you gasp out is making any sense âit-it wonât-it wonât fit.â Youâre lent over the counter your palms pushing into the cool top trying to ground yourself âit-it wonât fit.â You say again âher ring-her ring it-it wonât.â You feel light headed now but a voice in the back of your head screams at you that youâre not just breathing for yourself, youâre breathing for your baby and that seems to flip a switch as you place a protective hand on your stomach.
âHer ring-Leahâs ring it-it doesnât fit.â Leah grabby looks at you eyebrows scrunched together in confusion âher wedding band, of course it fits darling.â You shake your head âItâs not her ring Granny, I-she.â You feel your stomach twist again as Leahâs granny tries to understand whatâs going on.
âSheâs cheating on me-Leahâs cheating on me.â Granny feels her blood run cold as her face drops âthatâs-are you sure.â You nod as the pieces play in your head âshe-she wasnât wearing her ring- I told her Iâd take it-her-she said her hand was swelling from practice and when I went to put it on-it doesnât fit.â Granny can see the struggle, the way your hunched over scared that if you let go of the counter that the world will slip away. She sees your hand grasping at your stomach protectively and she herself starts to feel nauseous.
âWhere is the ring Y/n.â You shake your head at the memory âI-i-SHE wears it around her neck.â Granny reaches for your hand grasping it tightly âwho darling.â A tear tracks its way down your cheek âthe girl sheâs sleeping with.â Granny freezes, that ring had seen forty five years of pure love and happiness it was given to Leah so she could show it the same instead itâs been disgraced.
âI-what-what do I do.â You ask as granny leads you to the couch âI-i-we were supposed to have a baby.â Granny feels her heartbreak at your quieting voice âI was going to tell her it worked, that-that Iâm pregnant.â
Youâre so overwhelmed that you donât notice granny calling Amanda, or the rest of your family, you donât notice the blanket sheâs draped over you and you definitely donât notice that youâve fallen asleep until you wake up to voices in the kitchen.
âI-how did she end up like this, I mean why would she do something like this to her marriage, to Y/n.â Amanda looks shell shocked as she sits talking to granny her hands wrapped around a mug âDo you think sheâll let us still see the baby.â
You place your hand over your stomach again âI-I canât do this on my own .â You say stepping forward Amanda turns to you standing in the hallway âI-please donât make me do this alone.â

IMHO, the unifying thread across the history of Arab Palestine is that Palestinians have had horrible fascist clown leaders forced upon them over and over again. From Amin al-Husseini right through to Hamas.
No one has ever given Palestinians much say in what their leadership does, much less the opportunity to "be peaceful about it."
Translated from Arabic by Google:
This is how Hamas is dealing with the people of #Gaza now, with live bullets and excessive force, all because people came out saying we want to live, we are hungry
Translated from Arabic by Google:
Human rights calls to stop the death sentences in Gaza carried out by Hamas since its founding until today. It has executed 240 people, most of them unjustly and for reasons that do not deserve execution, knowing that the death sentences are not based on the rulings of the Palestine Liberation Movement and because Hamas is not a member of it. Details here in the link
Gazans in particular, currently, have been actively protesting Hamas's decision to force war upon them for well over a year. Even though Hamas responds by shooting at the protests, threatening protesters, and even with beatings and executions.
Translated from Arabic by Google:
I am from #Gaza and I demand that Hamas make all possible concessions in order to stop the genocide, including:
Declaration of surrender,
lay down arms,
waiver of judgment,
handing over prisoners,
Deportation of leaders,
The occupation remains in parts of the Strip,
Entry of international forces,
Prevent the armament of Gaza.
Because nothing is more important than the lives of our children.
Translated from Arabic by Google:
Dissatisfaction with Hamas is growing in Gaza. A resident of Gaza: âI donât want hostages or war or anything that Hamas does... We want to live in peace... If they like it, welcome... If they donât like it, then stay away from our hearts. We want to live in peace.â
One of the worst things about Hamas is that it has been so incredibly successful at controlling all forms of expression in Gaza.
IMHO, the worst thing about this is the way it treats Gazans. But the extra knife twist in that is the way it's prevented Gazans from getting any international support around it.
Hamas has been so successful in silencing Gaza that if you manage to find and support the actual Palestinian resistance, you can't really work with the pro-Palestinian movement.
Without decades of Hamas/PFLP propaganda, it would be obvious that there should be nothing ABOUT Gaza WITHOUT Gaza.
People would be protesting Egypt's blatant war profiteering, instead of only fundraising to pay its $5k-$12k fees.
People would have protested when Egypt closed the Rafah crossing entirely, letting aid rot for weeks on its side.
People would have protested the multiple times that the World Food Programme, the only agency delivering aid to northern Gaza, stopped delivering for weeks because the crowds were just "too chaotic."
People would be coordinating their protests with the ones in Gaza, to signal boost them across the whole world.
Translation:
"We want to live": the heat wave that ignites the flames of protests against the terrorist Hamas in Gaza.
Translation: From Rafah, demonstrators chanting: âThe people want to overthrow Hamasâ
Quoted tweet says: "The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth says that a meeting took place last night for representatives of the families of those killed in Gaza, which resulted in the appointment of a spokesman for them, and they decided to demonstrate today, Saturday, at eight oâclock in the evening, in the university square in the city of Rafah, under the title âThe People Wants,â and according to the familiesâ statements, the goal of the demonstration is to convey A clear message to Hamas that they are not interested in continuing the war. This movement comes in the wake of the killing of a young man from the Arja tribe at the hands of Hamas militia in Rafah. The Arja tribes issued a strongly worded statement yesterday in which they accused Hamas of destroying the Gaza Strip to serve foreign agendas."
The unifying force would be that everyone in Gaza and Israel fucking hates Hamas & Co and deserves to be free of them. People would call out and fight for whatever was needed, instead of being driven into a narrow and self-defeating corner.
Instead, there's a weak but loud pro-Palestinian movement, focusing on Israel to the exclusion of helping Gaza.
If the movement's goal is to speak over everyone in both Palestine and Israel, and to convince as many people as possible that Israel should be destroyed, then it's doing fantastically well on the left.
If its goal is to prevent the left from hearing from Gazan activists or even knowing they exist, it's doing amazing.
If its goal is just to spread Hamas's jargon and framework, mission accomplished.
And of course, inasmuch as it takes direction from pro-Hamas and PFLP-linked groups, that's exactly its goal.
I don't think very many people in the movement WANT to be Hamas's proxies.
I also don't think they'd choose those goals.
I think that all of them would be absolutely fucking livid at Hamas if they sat down with someone from Gaza for an hour and heard any of this shit.
But that's not going to happen, is it.
why are jews skeptical of antizionism? a guide for gentiles
I'd be ok with the notion Israel wasn't needed if y'all could be trusted not to fuck it up when Jews needed somewhere to flee. But last time (to put it politely) you fucked it up real bad, and six million Jews died.
Fundamentally, antizionism is asking Jews to put our lives in the hands of the same people who saw us screaming for help, who knew that death awaited us, and did all of nothing. Nada. Nil.
(As demonstrated by the recent Amsterdam pogrom, Israel is totally ok and often proactive in flying Jews out. Around the same time as Palestinians were being exiled, Jews from all over the Arab world were being driven out in similar numbers. The reason you don't hear about that refugee crisis? Israel accepted them, without complaint or delay or objection, just urgency.)
Pardon us for being a bit skeptical of your assertions that it won't happen again when a constant theme throughout our history has been it happening again.

Shopping with different OP characters!!
GN! reader, established relationship
warnings: stealing, doflamingo is an ASSHOLE
Includes: Crocodile, Nami, Doflamingo, Law, Kidd
My materialistic side really shows heređ
~-.-~~-.-~~-.-~~-.-~~-.-~~-.-~~-.-~~-.-~ ~-.-~~-.-~~-.-~
Crocodile
You had been begging Crocodile to take a break and go out with you all day. He really wanted to get work done, but just to shut you up, he finally agreed. You get all dressed up for a luxurious private dinner and afterwards the two of you take a walk through the city for some shopping, which is always fun with Crocodileâs bottomless wallet. As youâre walking, cozy underneath his big coat, a beautiful top catches your eye. You run up to the store window in awe of the striking piece that looks like it was made just for you.
âWow, look at this oneâŠâ you say, trying to avoid flat out asking for it. You give him your best puppy dog eyes, fluttering your lashes as you blink innocently.
He knows what you want and responds, âyou have a strange taste in fashion, but Iâll tell you what,â he chuckles and pulls out his wallet, âIâll buy it for you if you let me choose something I want to see you in.â
You feign surprise, widening your eyes as you answer, âReally?â He laughs and pats your back, leading you inside the store.
Nami
Nami always ends up spending too much Beri when she goes shopping, and itâs even worse when sheâs with you because she just canât say no. So when the crew docks at a new island, the two of you agree not to spend any money on new clothes. Of course, a high end boutique catches your eye and you give Nami a mischievous glance, communicating you were gonna go in whether she wanted you to or not.
âI only want to try stuff on, I swear!â You exclaim over your shoulder.
âFine, but donât even try to convince me to pay for anything!â Your girlfriend tries to act annoyed, but her wide grin reveals her entertainment at your antics. Every time you show interest in something, Nami takes it into the dressing room next to you. You thought it was weird because the two of you have fairly different tastes. When you eventually leave the boutique, She pulls you close and opens her purse with a giggle to reveal all the clothes she had shoplifted for you. âSee babe, I told you I wouldnât pay for anything!â
Doflamingo
Itâs a lazy Sunday morning for you and the King, lounging in bed with silk robes and the finest quality coffee. Youâre flipping through a magazine while he reads some book about war strategy. âDoffy, what do you think about this one?â You ask. You donât even have to consider money, Doflamingo can afford anything.
âHmmâŠâ he thinks for a minute, âI donât think thatâs your color.â You sigh. He always has to control everything. âWhat about this?â He points out something much more pink and extravagant.
âWhy does everything always have to go your way?â You whine, fed up with his ego.
âYou need to look good next to me,â he states firmly, putting an arm around your shoulder. âI have a reputation to uphold. Are you seriously not willing to sacrifice your fashion taste in exchange for everything else I give you?â The last thing you want is a fight, so you just rest your head on his chest as he calls in an attendant to order his picks for you.
Law
You had managed to drag Law to the mall with you, promising to go to the pawn shop with him afterwards to look for rare commemorative coins for his collection. When you see the cutest, chubbiest seal plushie ever, you know you have to have it. The only issue is that you have no money. Holding it behind your back, you turn to your boyfriend. âLaw,â You begin your pitch, trying to look as cute and convincing as possible. âYou really, really love me, right?â You tease.
âOf course I love you,â he answers, âbut what are you scheming?â
You reveal the plushie to him and squeeze its cheeks. âI need this.â
He tries to hide his amused smile from you - you look so cute when youâre happy and he suddenly has the best worst idea ever.
âNo, you donât need it. You want it.â He takes the plushie from you. âMaybe another time, sorry babe.â
After a long day with your boyfriend, you had forgotten all about the seal plushie. The two of you arrive home and when he shuts the door he turns to you with a wide grin.
âWhatâs that look for?â You question playfully. He reaches into the shopping bag you made him carry and pulls out the chubby seal. You grab it from his hand and give him a lighthearted slap to the arm. âLaw! You liar!â
Kidd
âKidd, look at this!â You call to him while adjusting a choker around your neck. âShould I buy it?â You immediately regret showing him when a mischievous gleam lights up his eyes.
âBuy it?â Kidd taunts, reaching over to fasten the choker for you before grabbing several more. Youâre frozen in place as he decks you out in accessories.
âWhat are you doing?â You question, âWe canât afford this!â
âYou look cool!â He ruffles your hair and grins before whispering, âNow leave quick while Iâm distracting the cashier.â
âAre you crazy?!â You whisper-yell. (Even though you already know the answer is yes.)
A shopkeeper interrupts your bickering, making you jump. âNo playing dress-up in the store! Either pay or leave!â He scolds.
âOkay, bye then!â Kidd says to the shopkeeper before effortlessly throwing you over his shoulder and disappearing out the door.

With the bengals winning against steelers, it's only right we get a blurb/imagine of after-game activities...
imagine post-game shenanigans with joe.
author's noteâ ââ suggestive but no smut because i wasn't feeling it lmao
"Fuck you!" Taylor jeered at a fired-up Steelers fan who had recognized you as Joe's girlfriend, his words slurred and aggressive. You rolled your eyes, scoffing at his audacity. The two of you were attempting to join the crowd leaving the bustling stadium, your plain hoodies and baseball caps failing to allow you the privilege of blending in once the home fans began to realize their team had just been defeated by the quarterback whose girlfriend was now in their midst.
You tended to avoid attending road games due to Joe's insistence on keeping you safe. The risk of confrontation with die-hard fans was always high, especially when emotions were as raw as they are today.
When you had first told him that you had decided to go with Kia and Taylor, he had been hesitant, forcing the three of you to promise not to wear any Bengals' merchandise and to keep your heads down. No flashy game-day outfits, no screaming, and no arguing with fans. The tight game, however, had you all riled up, and you hadn't even made it through the first quarter before the excitement got the best of you.
As the crowd began to disperse, the hostility grew palpable. You noticed the glares and the muttered insults, but you ignored them. You were leaving victorious, and you weren't about to let a bunch of sour fans ruin the moment. The three of you made your way through the throng, Joe's instructions ringing in your ears: "Just get to the car and stay together."
The Uber ride back was a mix of elated chatter and nervous glances at your surroundings. Your heart raced with every honk and shout from the passing cars, but you made it without incident. Back in your hotel room, you gathered your bags and downed celebratory shots of tequila. You shuffled back to your ride to the airport, the adrenaline from the game still pumping through your veins.
The private jet was a welcome sight. A luxurious cabin in stark contrast to your economy flight into Pittsburgh last night, with its plush leather seats and the soothing hum of the engines. You felt your anxiety lift from your shoulders as you all climbed into your seats, leaving the tension of the city behind. You couldn't help but think of Joe, probably still in the locker room, dealing with the media circus that came with a victory of that magnitude.
Your phone buzzed with a FaceTime call from Joe just as you all settled into your seats, waiting for the pilot to step into the cabin to announce when you'd be taking off. Your heart skipped a beat as you saw his sweet, exhausted face fill the screen. "Hey, baby," he said, his voice hoarse from yelling throughout the game. "You guys get out okay?"
You grinned, your friends leaning in to say hello. "Yeah, we're all good. Just about to take off." You gestured to the plush interior. "Thanks for the upgrade," you teased, your eyes sparkling.
Joe chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Couldn't have my girl and her entourage flying coach in enemy territory," he quipped. His gaze lingered on your lips, the exhaustion giving way to something more heated. "You look good, babe, even through this screen."
Taylor and Kia giggled, making lewd gestures behind your head, egging Joe on. He rolled his eyes playfully and leaned closer to the screen, his voice dropping an octave. "You better be ready for me when I get home. We've got some celebrating to do," he murmured, his eyes darkening with desire.
You couldn't help but laugh as your friends gasped in faux shock at Joe's suggestive tone. "I saw that! You disgusting pervert!" Kia exclaimed dramatically, referencing the TikTok with a grin, and pointing at the screen. Joe's grin only widened, his shoulders shaking as he tried to keep his voice low.
"I'll be waiting," you said with a knowing smile, your voice thick with anticipation. You hung up as Joe was called for press duties and turned to your friends, who were speaking with the pilot.
By the time you touched down in Cincinnati and made it home, you had mentally decided on the perfect way to greet Joe. You changed into his favorite lingerie set, a black lace number that hugged your curves just right. The scent of vanilla and champagne filled the room as you popped the cork on the bottle and filled two flutes. The bubbles danced in the light as you set them on the kitchen island, waiting for the moment Joe walked through the door.
Your heart pounded in your chest as you heard the garage door open and the sound of Joe's footsteps echoing through the hallway. He looked exhausted, his jaw tight, but the sight of you dressed like that brought a lazy smile to his face. He dropped his bag and shrugged out of his coat protecting him from the falling snow. "Damn, you weren't kidding," he murmured, his eyes devouring you.
You walked over to him, placing a flute in his hand and whispering, "You told me to be ready, didn't you?" You balanced your flute in your other hand, lifting it to clink against his. The sound of your glasses meeting filled the room, a tiny promise of what the night would hold.
Joe took a sip, his eyes focused on yours. He could feel his body responding to you, the ache from the game's physicality forgotten. He took you in, his eyes tracing the curves of your lingerie-clad body, the way your skin seemed to glow against the black lace. "You're going to be the death of me," he muttered under his breath, a hint of a smirk playing on his lips. "Do a spin for me, pretty girl."
You rolled your eyes, but the playful challenge in Joe's voice made you smile. You twirled around, the lingerie hugging you in all the right places, the flimsy material leaving little to the imagination. You felt a rush of power and excitement as Joe's eyes widened and he took a sharp breath in. You knew he liked what he saw.
He threw back the rest of his drink, the liquid sliding down his throat as he stepped closer to you, setting his empty glass aside. "Come here," he said, his voice gruff and low. You felt your heart flutter as you stepped into his embrace. The warmth of his body was a stark contrast to the cold air outside, his arms wrapping around you tightly. He kissed you deeply, his hands exploring your curves. The taste of victory and the promise of a night of passion mingled in the air, electrifying your every touch.
"I'm glad you like it," you said, your voice teasing, as Joe's hands roamed your body. You felt the heat between you build, his touch setting your skin on fire. "But first," you whispered, pulling away slightly, "I need to check on that head of yours."
Joe's smile immediately faded, and he sighed. "Babe, I'm fine." But you were insistent.
You had seen the hit replayed over and over on the screens in the stadium. The way he had been pancaked, face first, to the ground had made your heart stop for a moment. You were paralyzed from your seat, silently praying as the trainers rushed onto the field. When he finally stood up and walked off the field, you felt a mix of relief and anger. Relief that he wasn't seriously injured, anger that he was still so woefully under-protected years into his time with the Bengals.
"Just let me take a look," you said, taking his face in your hands and turning him so the light from the kitchen illuminated his skin. His eyes searched yours with an annoyed look that you ignored. You knew he was trying to gauge whether you were just worried or if you were about to turn into Meredith Grey.
He grumbled but allowed you to inspect his head, his hands resting gently on your hips, thumbs tracing the lines of the lace pressed against your skin. You felt a slight bump on his forehead, but there was no bruising to be seen. "It's just a little swollen," you said, your voice tight with concern. "Are you sure you don't have a concussion?"
"I'm fine, babe," Joe said firmly, his patience waning. He knew you meant well, but the adrenaline from winning had his body humming with need, and your gentle fussing was only making it harder to focus on claiming his reward. "They checked me out already."
Your eyes squinted skeptically. "Sure, the 'unaffiliated' neurological consultant who's hired by the NFL and defers to the team doctor," you quipped, unable to let go of your concern.
Joe huffed again, rolling his eyes. "Look, if there was something serious, they wouldn't have cleared me to finish the game," he said, trying to soothe your fears. "And you know the Players Association pays them too."
You pursed your lips, "Fine," you conceded, letting your hands drop to his chest. "But if you start feeling weird, or you get a headache, or anything, promise me you'll tell me. I'm serious about that, Joe."
"I promise," he said, leaning in to kiss you again. His hand slid down your back, caressing the soft skin above the lace. You felt the tension in your body start to dissolve as his mouth moved to your neck, kissing and nibbling the sensitive flesh. His hands roamed lower, cupping your ass and pulling you closer to him.
"Someone's eager," you murmured, a hint of laughter in your voice as Joe's hands grew more insistent, obviously trying to ignore your fussing. You knew the game had taken a lot out of him, but you also knew the effect you had on him, and it was clear he wasn't going to let a little fear get in the way of celebrating. You wrapped your arms around his neck, pulling him closer, the brief tension forgotten as your bodies met.
"I'm trying to fuck, and you want to give me a medical exam?" Joe chuckled against your skin, his voice muffled in the crook of your neck. His hands grew bolder, slipping beneath the lace to cup your breasts. Your laugh turned into a moan as his thumbs brushed over your nipples. The sound sent a jolt of desire straight to Joe's core, his cock thickening as he felt you respond.
"I can't help it," you murmured, your eyes fluttering closed as your hands drifted from his chest to the back of his head. You sighed softly as he nibbled tentatively at the edge of your jaw.
"You're my baby, and I want you to stay my baby." Your voice was filled with a mix of concern and desire that made Joe's heart swell. He kissed you again, his tongue sliding into your mouth, tasting the sweetness of the champagne. He could feel the urgency building between you, the need to celebrate his victory in the most intimate way possible.

Iâve been putting on a lot of weight recently and itâs getting obvious so I think I should go back to the gym. I have noticed Iâm blowing up like a balloon with all of the fat piling its way onto my body. I donât even recognize my body in the mirror anymore. I used to have high sharp cheek bones and a defined jawline, now I have rounded chubby cheeks and what will soon be able to be called a double chin. My neck is thicker. All the definition once visible in my toned arms is disappearing. If I donât do something soon I know the muscle under the fat will make them look that much fatter. My once small but nice boobs have grown to be hugely round tits the size of cantaloupesâŠ. My toned legs are softening and expanding at a rapid pace. My thighs have begun rubbing together. My ass used to be firm, but now itâs jiggling with every step I take. And my belly is the worst. I used to have defined abs. People would come up all the time and ask how I got my abs to be so defined. My abs have disappear under a thick layer of marshmallow like fat. Iâve had people say Iâm so round I look pregnant. I have a roll of fat that hangs over the waist band of all my pants because they are getting FAR too small for my ever growing figure. Iâve gone from such a fit sexy girl into a round chubby piggy. The only problem is, I just tried on some work out clothes to go to the gym and they are all way too small! I canât even pull them up over my gargantuan belly! They are squeezing my ass and thighs so tight I feel like Iâm a bust can of biscuits. The other problem is I donât know if I can stop eating. My belly is constantly demanding to be stuffed full of fattening foods. My old gym friends havenât seen me in months. If I go they may comment on just how BIG Iâve gotten. Iâm sire if I showed up in this Iâd be stared at the whole time. Whispers would start. All the people who used to ask my advice and come talk to me would probably not even speak to me. And if they did they would probably ask when Iâd gotten so fat. I canât imagine even trying to run now. My belly jiggles when I walk. I can even feel my love handles jiggle! I donât even know how to lose this weight! Maybe I should just accept my fat(e) and accept that Iâm meant to be a chubby girl.
If you saw me in the gym now compared to last summer what would you say to me?
The before photo is me from last summer

Holy- HOW IS THIS SO TRAUMATIZING (OP I LOVE YOU FOR THIS)
Adding onto some of them with headcanons of my own (TW selfharm-death-mental illness-bloodâïž)-
Scott's skin bubbling and shifting constantly since he hasn't learned to control it yet. Grabbing at his own neck, almost strangling himself as he tries to press the gills shut. He can't think clearly, because he's never getting enough oxygen, even if he ever were to see water, he's damaged his gills so severely that he'll never properly breathe again, like so many people take for granted.
Not many people know this, but Jimmy is covered in bruises. When invisible, he trips over himself, bumps into things, as well as other people bumping into him. He's got a handful of bruises here and there because of that, but that's not why every inch of his arms and legs are black and blue. The panic he felt the first time he turned never really went away. Sometimes he'll wake up invisible, and for moments will forget about his ability. Sometimes, when he's in a really bad state, he'll hurt himself. He'll grab his arms tightly for hours on end, just reassure that they are actually there. His friends just assume that the bad people are rougher with Jimmy because he's usually more "rambunctious".
Imagine Martyn being put in isolation, with sound proof barriers when he gets his ability because the facility doesn't want him hearing things he shouldn't. He goes mad in. There are chips in his ears from him clawing at them. He's missing tufts of his hair. He used to scream so much when he first got his power, to the point where now his voice is permanently broken and wheezy. He used to hope that if he was loud enough, desperate enough, his cries could overpower All. That. Noise.
Imagine Ren subconsciously shifting to have certain features from Martyn, creeping out all their other friends, but they never tell him that. They know that he's been broken ever since they took Martyn away from him. As the months go on, Ren starts to forget his own features- but it doesn't matter. All he has to do is remember Martyn. His hair, his eyes, his smile. Ren doesn't have a smile of his own anymore, because the last time he smiled was at Martyn. He smiled back.
Scar finding out his power, and jokingly shadow boxing, saying how he's gonna take down any guard who messes with him or his friends- Then someone comes up behind him, and mid-punch he turns around, his fist making contact with Mumbo's shoulder. Scar freezes, but it's too late. Mumbo flies meters away, thrown to the ground. His arm is barely even connected to his body, there's blood pouring out of his mouth. Scar rushes to his friend's side, and goes pale at the sight of the man's flattened ribcage.
Later on, Cleo shoving the mindless corpses of Skizz and Mumbo around, acting like she could bully them into being normal again. Through the hallways, you can sometimes hear her crying- "Look at me- look at me Skizz!" "NO, No, no, no- Mumbo, I can fix you- I promise, just please lift up your head" "you're gonna be okay- you can still be with us, you don't have to go..."
The first time BigB summons a creaking, he's being escorted by a guard through a hall. He hears the footsteps coming up to them, and meets the creatureâs eyes. The guard opens fire, only causing bullets to ricochet off its bark, while BigB stands there, never pulling his eyes from the creaking monster. He blinks for a millisecond, turning to run, and that's when he heard the guard's final breath. BigB watched as the branch through the man's chest lowered him to the ground. The creaking just kept looking at BigB, and it took him ages too long to realize that it would hurt everyone around but him.
Imagine Gem looking over her shoulder, and seeing Mumbo and Skizz for the first time in... too long. Shutting her eyes and contuining to walk. Calling herself crazy as tears start to form, until she feels a hand on her shoulder. She looks back and sees her own body, crumbled to the ground. When she uses her powers, her eyes seem to disappear, almost like Grian's black, void like eyes. She spends hours of her day crying into Skizz's arms while Mumbo tries his very hardest to give her words of comfort.
Tango's heart is always beating too fast, to the point where it'll start to hurt. The running helps relieve the pain, but it doesn't go away. When trapped in his cell, the camera's frame rate can't keep up with him. The screens in the security camera room just show four orange figures that change every could seconds, all of them with expressions of rage or desperation.
Lizzie attempting to make her escape, but as she runs down the halls, the screams of panicked from her friends disorient her. The guards eventually find her banging on the steel door of Joel's cell, screaming that she's sorry.
Imagine seeing Pearl with raw finger tips, sometimes with her entire palm covered in her own blood, and having no clue as to why until you walk into her cell, and see the claw marks in the concrete ceiling. Engravings from every time she'd had a breakdown and tried so hard to get to the open sky.
Etho always keeping his hands behind his back or in his pockets so the very thought of using his ability never crosses his mind.
Imagine Grian trying out each of his friends powers, and having to go through each and every single one of these torturous moments.
I JUST HAD A REALLY COOL IDEA FOR AN AU BASED ON THE NEW WILD LIFE EPISODE. HEAVY(?) ANGST UP AHEAD AND ALSO SPOILERS TO SESSION 7 SO BE WARNED!
LIFE SERIES MEMBERS BUT THEY GOT THEIR POWERS FROM LAB EXPERIMENTATION!!!!!
Okay I'm switching to lowercase so I'm not just screaming at you guys haha
[EDIT] Guess whoâs fully elaborating on this AU with Subject files and a fic? :3
Project X Master Post
===============================
Imagine Martyn curled up in the corner of his cell, covering his ears bc he doesn't know how to block things out and everything is so loud.
Imagine Scott transforming from an aquatic creature back to his regular form, but he still has gills, and he panics when he can't breathe.
Imagine Jimmy turning in invisible for the first time and not knowing how to turn back, and he thinks he's stuck that way forever.
Imagine Ren transforming the first few times, but there's always something off about him. He looks eerie, like something from uncanny valley.
Imagine Scar not knowing his own strength and jokingly punching Mumbo, only to send him flying into the wall and causing his death.
Imagine Cleo trying so hard to get Mumbo and Skizz to act the way that they used to when she summons them, but it's never truly them. Something is always wrong.
Imagine BigB being terrified when he summons the creaking for the first time, not realizing they're on his side and thinking they'll attack him.
Imagine Gem astral projecting as an escapism, talking to Mumbo and Skizz and "leaving" the facility, but she can't truly leave.
Imagine Impulse and Tango nearly getting to escape with their powers, their friends cheering them on from inside their cells, and just when they're in the clear, Impulse gets tranquilized and falls unconscious. Tango can't bare to leave his buddy behind. They both get collars that block their abilities and heavy monitoring after that stunt.
Lizzie feels bad about her power. She's tried to escape as well, but when she realized the blindness affected her friends, it freaked her out so much that security was able to catch up to her and take her back to her cell.
Imagine Bdubs sleeping diligently through every night and dealing with nightmares of the hell they've all been put through so his friends don't.
Imagine Pearl wishing she could fly out in the open air, desperate for that kind of freedom that she knows she will never have.
Imagine Etho trying to bring down his mace to pretend to hit Bdubs, and when he move to the side to dodge, it actually puts him in the way of Etho's strike. The absolute terror that fills Etho is so bad that he never jokes like that again, even if it barely hurt him.
Imagine Joel looking around and analyzing the rooms, thinking of how he could scale the walls with his ability to escape through an air vent, but he can never bring himself to do it because he refuses to leave Lizzie.
Imagine Grian being physically and emotionally strained trying to learn everyone's powers and how to properly use them, wishing he just had one of his own instead.
Imagine Skizz and Mumbo both dying (Skizz due to the intense tests and Mumbo due to the effects the testing had on Scar) before they had a chance to gain powers of their own. Don't imagine those powers being just what the group needs to escape.
===============================
I think I might write each of these as a one shot. That would certainly be a LOT of fun :) lmk what you guys think please!

Hello Again Pt. 1
Pairing: Harry x Designer reader (curvy or plus size whatever you feel they should look like. This is my preference đ)
Summary: This feels fated to meet again and again and again
Word Count: 18.08k
Warnings: None. just fluff and also a slow burn.
...
A ping from your email broke your concentration on work. You sighed, already assuming it was one of your manufacturers asking for yet another confirmation about a product youâd been working over for months. Without much thought, you clicked on the notification, ready to fire off a quick response.
To your surprise, the email wasnât from a manufacturerâit was from Sam, your old friend and occasional collaborator. His subject line read: âJob Offer You Canât Refuse.â Intrigued, you opened the email and quickly scanned its contents.
It seemed Sam had found you a project that piqued his interestâand yours. The pay was good, the timeline was tight, and the concept sounded straightforward.
You immediately picked up your phone and called him. No need for formalities; this was Sam, after all.
âHey, Sam,â you said as soon as he answered, skipping any pleasantries. âWhatâs this mysterious job offer youâre dangling in front of me?â
âOh, that.â He sounded smug, which only made you roll your eyes. âIâm under an NDA, so I canât say too much, but itâs a pop-up store project. The whole thing needs to be modular and removable, so it can be packed up and relocated in two months. Easy, right? You in?â
You didnât even hesitate. âOf course, Iâm in! Sounds simple enough. Send over the contract and details, and Iâll get started.â
âI knew I could count on you,â he said with a grin you could practically hear through the phone. âSee you onsite, Y/N.â ...
The day of the meeting arrived, and you were readyâor so you thought.
Sam couldnât make it and had entrusted you to lead the meeting solo, but you were used to working independently, so it wasnât a problem. Dressed in a professional outfit that balanced comfort and confidence, you walked into the office where the meeting was being held.
As you glanced around at the product displays, your heart skipped a beat. You could already tell this was a high-profile client. Their products, branding, and visuals exuded quality and creativity.
As you tried to calm your nerves, the conference room door opened, and a group of people filed out.
A friendly woman approached you, pulling you back to reality.
âHello, are you Ms. Y/N L/N?â
âYes,â you replied with a polite smile, adjusting your bag on your shoulder. âI have a meeting with your visual merchandising manager.â
âPerfect, youâre our two oâclock appointment. Please come in.â
You stepped inside the sleek, minimalistic conference room and began setting up.
âOur lead designer just stepped out for a quick break,â the woman explained, handing you a water bottle. âTheyâll be back in ten minutes and a few other designers. Is there anything else I can get you while you wait? Coffee?â
âWater is fine. Thank you,â you replied.
You opened your laptop, pulled up your notes and sketches, and jotted down a few ideas in your journal. You were mid-thought when the door opened behind you.
You turned, ready to greet whoever entered, but the words caught in your throat.
It was him. Harry Styles.
...
You both stared at each other, completely stunned. Of all the people you could run into at this meeting, it had to be him. You hadnât seen Harry since your last encounter at Feliceâs CafĂ©.
For a moment, it felt like the world had slowed down, your mind scrambling to process his presence. He looked just as effortlessly charming as you remembered, his warm green eyes flickering with recognition and surprise.
Finally, Harry broke the silence, his voice smooth but slightly uncertain.
âHello, Iâm Harry Styles. Iâm the owner of the company. Nice to meet youâŠ?â
It took you a second to respond, your voice catching in your throat. âItâs Y/N. Y/N L/N. Nice to meet you as well.â
He smiled, extending a hand toward you. You scrambled to your feet, standing taller than youâd expected, and reached out to shake his hand.
Your hands met, and you shook itâa bit too long, you thought as the realization hit. The warmth of his hand lingered, making you feel like time had momentarily stopped again.
You quickly dropped your hand and clasped it behind your back, your face heating up.
For a split second, an awkward silence filled the room. Harry seemed like he was about to say something, his lips parting as if to speakâ
But just then, the door opened, and a small group of people filed into the room, shattering the quiet bubble youâd both been trapped in.
âAh, great,â said a cheerful man from the group, clapping his hands together as he approached. âHarry, youâre here. And this must be Ms. L/N!â
The moment was gone. Harry straightened, his expression shifting seamlessly to one of polite professionalism, though you caught a flicker of something in his eyes as he glanced back at you.
You offered a polite nod to the newcomers, forcing yourself to focus as introductions were made. Yet, as the meeting began, you couldnât help but feel like something important had been left unsaid.
And judging by the way Harry occasionally glanced your way, he felt the same.
...
As the meeting progressed, Harry found himself quietly observing you. Initially, heâd assumed you might be shy or reservedâperhaps because of the nervous energy that had lingered when you first met. But as you delved into your presentation, he realized just how wrong he was.
The confidence with which you spoke captivated the room. Your tone was steady yet approachable, and your words were carefully chosen to articulate your vision. You presented your design concepts with precision, highlighting the intricate details and practical functionality behind each element.
Harry leaned forward slightly in his chair, his interest piqued. The way you seamlessly balanced creativity with logic was impressive. He could tell how much thought youâd put into this projectâevery choice seemed deliberate, every detail purposeful.
What surprised him most, however, was your ability to command the room. You werenât just presenting; you were selling the design, painting a picture of how the concept would come to life. And the team was eating it up.
He stole a glance around the room. His team, typically quick to interject or challenge ideas, sat quietly, nodding along with your points. Even he couldnât help but admire the way you navigated through the questions and feedback with such ease.
When you paused for questions, Harry cleared his throat and spoke, his voice cutting through the room.
âI really appreciate the thought youâve put into the designâitâs incredibly well-considered. I do have a question, though,â he said, his tone genuinely curious. âYou mentioned incorporating natural textures into the layout. Can you elaborate on how those elements will remain modular while still maintaining their aesthetic appeal?â
You turned to him, locking eyes for a brief moment. His question wasnât just thoughtfulâit showed that heâd been paying close attention to your presentation.
âThank you, Mr. Styles,â you began, your voice steady. âThatâs a great question. For the natural textures, such as reclaimed wood and stone-inspired finishes, Iâve ensured that theyâre lightweight and easily removable. The modular framework uses a system of interchangeable panels, so the aesthetic can be retained without compromising functionality.â
Harry nodded, clearly impressed. âThat makes sense. And it aligns well with what weâre trying to achieve hereâsomething unique, but also adaptable. Nicely done.â
You gave him a polite smile, though inside, his compliment sent a ripple of pride through you.
As the meeting continued, Harry couldnât help but feel drawn to the passion and expertise you brought to your work. There was something magnetic about the way you carried yourselfâso composed and articulate, yet with a spark of creativity that set you apart.
And as the session wrapped up, he found himself wondering if this serendipitous reunion might be more than just a chance encounter.
As handshakes and congratulations were exchanged, the manager gave a final nod of approval, and Harry himself followed suit, offering his praise for your presentation. It had been a resounding success.
With most of the team filing out of the room, the buzz of conversation slowly faded, leaving you alone at the conference table, still stuffing your things into your bag. You were on a high from the meetingâeverything had gone so smoothly, but the exhaustion from a long day was beginning to catch up.
Suddenly, you heard a soft cough. Looking up, you were surprised to see Harry still standing near the door.
âOh, sorry,â you said, startled. âAre there any more questions you need from me, Mr. Styles?â You quickly adjusted your posture, feeling a bit flustered.
Harry smiled, the easy warmth you remembered from your past encounter resurfacing. âYou can call me Harry,â he replied with a casual, almost reassuring tone. âIâm not too big on formalities. Can I call you Y/N?â
âThatâs alright with me,â you answered with a smile, pleased by the friendly tone of the conversation. It felt much more natural now that the formality had faded.
A beat of silence passed before Harry spoke again, his eyes twinkling with a hint of curiosity. âSo, how long have you been eating breakfast at Feliâs CafĂ©?â
You blinked, a bit taken aback by the question. It was unexpected, but not unwelcome. âOh, Iâve been going there for a while now. I usually grab a matcha latte and sometimes a sandwich. Feliâs a good friend of mineâsheâs the one who got me hooked on her menu.â
Good thing I found your journal, your presentation was fantastic. Harry complimented.
Thank you again for giving it back. and sorry I was on a time crunch that I didn't introduce myself.
Harry chuckled softly, his expression warm.
You felt a sudden shift in the air between you two, the unspoken moment starting to surface. But before either of you could delve deeper into the conversation, a voice from the hallway interrupted the moment.
âIâm sorry to interrupt,â the manager popped his head back in, looking around. âBut I just wanted to confirm weâre all set for the next steps, Y/N? Can we count on you for the design rollout next week?â
You gave a nod, quickly snapping back into professional mode. âYes, everything is in order. I'll start on the proper revisions needed for the plans."
âPerfect,â the manager smiled, satisfied. âThanks again for your excellent work today.â
As he left the room, you turned back to Harry, who was still standing near the door, clearly reluctant to leave just yet.
âI guess I should let you get back to your day,â you said, trying to break the lingering tension. âIâll see you around, Harry.â
Harryâs smile widened, and he nodded slowly. âDefinitely.â
...
It had been a month since you completed your work for Pleasing. You scrolled through their Instagram, admiring how your designs brought their brand to life. Seeing people lining up to buy their high-quality products filled you with a deep sense of pride.
Youâd only seen Harry a handful of times during the project, but he always seemed busy, caught up in meetings or surrounded by other people.
Sighing loudly, you collapsed onto your bed, letting the exhaustion of the day wash over you. You had plans to join an art market this month, where youâd sell your prints, stickers, and other handmade knickknacks. It was something to look forward to, at least.
âWill we ever meet again?â you murmured to yourself, staring up at the ceiling. âI mean, what are the chances?â You already knew the answer before you even finished the thought. Harry was probably the busiest person youâd ever met, and you were just a nobody in his world.
Your heart felt heavy as you grappled with the cold, hard realityâhe might have only been a fleeting moment in your life, a beautiful memory to cherish but not something meant to last. ...
A month had passed, and Harry still hadnât been able to properly speak with you. He had been tryingâdesperately, in fact. Heâd gone to the cafĂ© where you first met, hoping to run into you again, but you never showed up, or you came at different times. He even tried catching you after work, but you were always whisked away to other locations or surrounded by people.
In a final act of determination, Harry had even approached HR for your contact information, but they refused to give it to him. Frustrated and defeated, he began to think maybe it wasnât meant to be.
As he walked home one evening, his eyes caught on a brightly colored poster advertising an upcoming art market at the same location he frequented. He stared at it for a moment, a flicker of hope sparking in his chest before he brushed it off with a sigh. Maybe it was time to give up. Maybe it was never destined to happen.
But something about the poster lingered in his mindâa quiet, persistent thought that made him decide, almost on impulse, to go to the market anyway. Perhaps, by some happy chance, fate would intervene.
You were busy setting up your booth in the bustling market, carefully adjusting misaligned prints and rearranging trinkets to create the perfect display. The air buzzed with chatter and laughter, the atmosphere lively as other artists greeted passersby and showcased their work.
âYour paintings are just lovely, dear,â an elderly woman remarked, her eyes sparkling as she pointed to one of your pieces.
âThey really are,â her partner chimed in with a warm smile. âWe could hang one in the hallway, couldnât we?â
âExcuse me, miss,â another potential buyer interjected, holding up one of your prints. âHow much is this?â
âFor the A4 size, itâs 25 pounds,â you replied with a friendly smile.
More people began to gather, drawn by the charm of your artwork. You did your best to keep up, answering questions, wrapping purchases, and making small talk with the growing crowd. It was a whirlwind, but you couldnât help but feel a swell of pride seeing so many people appreciating your work.
...
Walking through the bustling market, Harry wandered past the stalls he always loved to visit. He admired the fresh vegetables and fruits, browsed through racks of thrifted clothes, and flipped through stacks of vinyl records that always piqued his interest. But today, something different caught his attentionâa special event featuring local artists who had been invited to showcase and sell their work.
As he turned toward the next stall, his eyes landed on somethingâor rather, someone.
It was you.
There you stood in front of your stall, surrounded by your artwork, speaking to customers with an energy that radiated warmth and passion. The light in your eyes, the way you animatedly gestured while describing your creations, the genuine smile that lit up your faceâit was everything he remembered and more.
For a moment, Harry froze, rooted in place as he took it all in. You looked so at home in your element, effortlessly captivating the people around you. His heart raced, a mixture of excitement and nervousness coursing through him. But before doubt could creep in, before he could second-guess himself, he moved.
Harry started walking toward you, his steps quick and purposeful. His mind was a whirlwind of emotions, but there was only one clear thought that anchored him: now or never.
This was his chance to finally talk to youâto close the distance that had been lingering between you both for far too long. He wasnât going to let it slip away again.
...
It has been a good day so far. People were buying your prints, admiring your stickers, and complimenting your craftsmanship. You smiled to yourself, feeling content with the steady stream of visitors who appreciated your work.
Just as you reached for your water bottle, a familiar voice interrupted your thoughts.
âHello, again, Y/N.â
You froze, the cap of your bottle slipping through your fingers. Slowly, you turned toward the source of the voice, your heart skipping a beat.
There he wasâHarry. Standing there amidst the sea of market-goers, looking as effortlessly charming as ever in a white T-shirt, jeans, and sunglasses perched on his curls. His lips curved into a small, knowing smile as your eyes met.
âHarry?â you managed to say, your voice barely above a whisper.
âI thought it was you,â he said, stepping closer. His gaze flickered over your stall, taking in the vibrant prints and trinkets on display. âThis is all yours?â
You nodded, suddenly self-conscious. âYeah, just a little side project I do. HowâŠhow did you find me here?â
âI didnât,â he admitted with a chuckle. âI was just wandering around, and there you were. Funny how the universe works, huh?â
You couldnât help but laugh softly, shaking your head. âYeah, funny.â
He looked around at your stall again, picking up one of your printsâa delicate watercolor of flowers intertwined with abstract shapes. âThis is beautiful,â he said earnestly, his fingers brushing over the edge of the paper. âYouâre really talented.â
âThank you,â you said, warmth spreading through your chest at the compliment.
âDo you take commissions?â he asked, his tone casual but his eyes intensely focused on you.
âSometimes,â you said, tilting your head. âWhy? Are you looking for something specific?â
âI might be,â he replied cryptically, his lips curving into a playful smirk. Before you could press him further, he added, âBut first, do you have a break coming up? I was thinking I could buy you a coffee.â
Your breath caught at his unexpected offer. âA coffee?â
âYeah,â he said, shrugging like it was the simplest thing in the world. âYouâve been on my mind lately, Y/N. Thought maybe this time we could actually catch up without a room full of people or work deadlines in the way.â
Your pulse quickened as you tried to process his words. Was he really asking you out, or was this just Harry being Harryâcharming and polite?
âWell,â you started, glancing at your stall. âI do have a little time before the market closesâŠâ
âPerfect,â he said with a grin. âIâll wait for you to pack up, or we can just grab something nearby. Whatever works for you.â
As he spoke, the faint hum of the market seemed to fade into the background. For the first time in weeks, the heavy feeling in your chest lifted just a little. Maybe this wasnât just a fleeting moment after all.
...
Okay, this is actually too long Iâll make it into two parts. Give you guys some suspense. Thank you for reading everyone! âșïž
