“On the old north shore at Blair Water on New Moon Farm, under a near constant cover of clouds and rain…”
Emily of New Moon by L.M. Montgomery, blended not-entirely-seamlessly with New Moon of the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer
#me and zoey were on the bc to wa ferry this afternoon… and consideringgg the eonm book club begins tomorrow#this felt necessary 🫡#also thinking of both @emilyclimbs and @bellasbookclub… one of which… i thiiiiink (?) was the v first person to pioneer this joke 😅

My other fun dunmeshi statistics shipping fact is that for a while before the anime aired / in the earlier weeks the third most popular ship was actually chilchuck x reader just because there was this one author who singlehandedly wrote like 10 fics because they were horny for that old man

since kuukou debuted in the tdd manga, the artist got to have first dibs on showing his character thru actions lol and one of those was to have him make this gesture as he spoke his bullshit buddhism (and he immediately flipped ichiro off in the next panel of the first, showing the full intent of this hand sign LOL) and it’s corny as hell but idk i think it’s funny and should be further incorporated in his character LOL
#this is vee speaking#like the way we were introduced to hirono kuukou by him politely greeting the thugs who showed up at his temple to beat him up lol#and then he went ‘NAHHH YOU DIDNT THINK I WAS FR DID YOU’ and this kinda gives off a similar vibe and that’s why i think it’d be fun lmao#like hand gestures!!!!! hirono kuukou had his own and kuukou under the tdd/dod artist does!!!!!!#let’s keep it up lol!!!!!!! 😭😭😭#kuukou pioneered matching with your team/partner let’s have him pioneer the hand sign too!!!!!!! 👏👏👏#i like a lot of character details the tdd/dod artist gave kuukou lol like his different laugh and his different earrings#the laugh kinda changed bc of hayama-san but the earrings must have been a concept art design that changed once he rly debuted#but i loved his tdd earrings setup lol i still draw them whenever i draw nb kuukou lol 😭😭😭😭😭

Let F be a Floer homology theory. For the purposes of this talk, you can assume it's any Floer homology theory you like, and if you don't like any Floer homology theory, then pretend you do like one and assume it's that one
-- a conference speaker
#floer homology#math#maths#mathblr#you really should have at least one Floer homology theory you like!!#i have for a while wanted to do a longpost about floer homology#a very cool concept that shouldn't yield anything but miraculously does#and also about the guy who came up with it (andreas floer)#who was a very interesting guy#he died in 1991 at age 34 which is usually when an academic is only starting to build their influence#and thus didn't have any phd students#and most people in the math community don't seem to have known him personally#(his wikipedia page has a section of quotes about him but they're all about his math#which is pretty much universally agreed to be one of the most striking developments of modern mathematics)#but one time they did a memorial conference a couple years ago in his honour at (uc) berkeley#where they talked about the extremely fruitful field of research he pioneered#they put up posters around campus advertising the conference that happened to have a picture of him#and apparently a bunch of old guys showed up who knew nothing about math#it turned out they were his housemates in the gay commune he used to live in#who were going for a walk around campus and saw a poster with his photo and were like#'wait isn't that our buddy who died twenty-some years ago??'#apparently they knew nothing about math so it was totally incomprehensible to them but they attended the whole conference anyway

It feels like every day I read attempts to debunk the social model of disability that fundamentally misunderstand what the social model of disability is and who the people who developed that model were, including what the nature of their disabilities was, and I want to scream.
But I don't, because yelling at people on the internet is basically pointless. Instead I check to see that I'm not mutuals with whoever reblogged said misunderstanding and vague about it.
#'but [x impairment] would still exist and have [y implications] even if the world were completely accessible!'#okay well yeah but equating impairment and disability is explicitly the opposite of the social model of disability#the union of the *physically impaired* against segregation who developed this model#*were* by and large privileged in ways many other disabled people are not‚ yes#mike oliver who wrote the fucking book on the social model of disability#(social work with disabled people‚ published in 1983)#was a white man with a phd who pioneered an academic field‚ for one#and there *are* criticisms about the limitations to a purely social model of disability to be made#but like... our pal mike oliver was also a wheelchair user who broke his neck in a swimming accident as a teenager#which caused paralysis that affected his upper and lower body#not a clueless 'physically abled' autistic who didn't understand how physical limitations work#he lived the first 17 years of his life as a physically abled person#so I think he was aware of the difference between what his body could do before and after his accident#and like 'disability is socially constructed'#is not saying that differences between people and what they are able to do or do easily do not exist??#my eyesight is so bad that if I could not access corrective lenses I would be functionally blind#and even with glasses my myopia and astigmatism cause a lot of tangible effects on my body#e.g. migraines‚ eyestrain‚ so many floaters that even looking through pristine glasses is like the lenses are scratched to hell#but my eyesight is not considered a disability#because the accommodations that enable me to participate in society fully in this area are so standard as to be invisible#can I magically see without corrective lenses? no#does wearing glasses not being considered a disability mean that I do not get migraines and eyestrain? no#so the arguments the thing I am vaguing are trying to debunk are not what is being argued!#well seems like I screamed about it after all#oh well

#the odyssey along with the Iliad are The literary works that ancient greek culture-- arts worldview cosmology morality-- developed around#as well as works that created the idea of a greek identity and an aegean/mediterranean history from the fragmentary traditions and memories#of the bronze age and earlier that managed to survive through the fucking dark age#if chaucer and the bible had a baby that's how important these works were for greek identity and understanding of themselves and the world#the odyssey on it's own is an incredible preservation of regional folk tales and trickster culture heroes#and a priceless glimpse into ancient greek understanding of their past as well as the political and social structures of the archaic period#and also an incredibly pioneering narrative structure that mimics the circular travels of its protagonist with its non-linear format#if a forgettable children's book series that doesn't even represent the mythology well is That for you then you need help frankly#and if it's not then shut up about it already#(just say you're a 28 year old with a 4th grade reading level and go)#like I dislike these books for a variety of reasons but it's takes like this that make me HATE them#SHUT UP about these GODDAMN BOOKS#greek mythology#ancient greece#anti pjo#anti percy jackson#lore and more

I love Spirk as much as the next person but some of yall act like they threw the first brick at Stonewall
#so many people seem to legitimately believe that like. Spirk was deliberately written and acted to be a romantic relationship#and that they pioneered queer representation#and like. sure Spirk was where slash fic was born#but its very important to remember that thats it#they were not deliberately written to be romantic#in the original source material they are not deliberately nor canonically together in a romantic sense#im saying this as somebody who ships it hard like im begging yall to remember that its a fandom thing and not a canon thing#you cannot be out here with takes like 'the Kelvin verse is homophobic because they made Kirk and Spock antagonistic at first'#that is fandom brain rotting like you are in too deep and you need to go outside#you cannot be getting mad that your ship that was never going to be canon isnt canon#thats not the fault of any writers or any directors they are not obligated to make any pairing canon no matter how popular it is#like sorry to anybody who thinks theyre actually going to make Spirk canon at any point but you are kidding yourself#and them not being canon isnt. a bad thing#since when did ships NEED to become canon#just have fun in your sandbox

fun fact growing up mormon & in california meant I thought the Donner Party was mormon for a good long while. I had a misunderstanding and thought the donner party were mormon pioneers who got lost and succumbed to one of the greatest sins on earth to try to survive, which always left me with this profound twist in my gut that you could be amazing Mormons, and something like this could still happen to you just because you got lost.
I think I was about 10 when I started questioning the association?
#personal#exmormon#exmo#ex lds#donner party#note: they ARE pioneers but they were like. gold rush type pioneers not mormon
