this has been sitting in my askbox since september and im really sorry anwsering took so long, but ive been trying to articulate how the last few chapters/last episode made me feel and im still not sure, because there have been so many bizzare choices made by both asagiri and the ppl behind the anime i still cant wrap my head around it fully (this got stupid long sorry)

starting with fukuzawa, i made a post a while back talking abt how i was assuming he was going to die/why it'd make a lot of sense, and there were really two main reasons for that; 1. he hasnt had anything interesting to offer for the story for a while and 2. his ability actively stops other important characters (mainly atsushi and kyouka) from further developement. the first thing is now gone which im pretty happy with! i love fukuzawa a lot so it's nice to see him finally have a purpose in the main story and im excited to see where it will go (also fukufuku you will always be famous to me <3333333), but the issue of his ability is still very much here. ive seen ppl theorize that all men are equal is just him lying and there is no ability but i honest to god would hate that, bc it would seem like such a shallow twist. atsushi's conflict with the tiger is central to his character so if it suddenly got revealed that a huge reason why he's even capable of using his power is just placebo "believe in yourself" bullshit i think i'd tear my own hair out. so im still thinking fukuzawa may get killed at some point, esp with the position he's been put into now and how much he seems to not want it.

and as for the "chuuya was never a vampire" fiasco, i honestly have no words, it was so unbelievably bad. ik there's been a ton of posts about how "its actually good" bc fyodor's death was caused by his inability to trust, and dazai's belief in his allies is what put him at an advantage, which is nice yeah, but it doesnt change how fucking stupid of a plan that was. if their goal is to kill fyodor, why not do it in that flooded room? fyodor escapes solely bc chuuya gets him out but if he was concious the entire time why not just leave him there? why continue to pretend? im usually not a huge fan of getting angry over plot holes when the narrative and themes are whats more important, but this is just so blantantly stupid. it feels like asagiri just wanted a plot twist for a plot twist's sake. mersault in general is so poorly constructed as an arc (dazai communicating via his heartbeat,,,, give me a break) but at least you'd hope it would end in a way that makes you excuse all of that, and then it doesn't. i think this post sums up how i feel about this than i ever could

and the fact that its december and we are STILL behind the fucking anime asagiri be so for real. it's easy to see now that the constant half chapters and short releases were a deliberate choice to have the anime catch up which i dont love, but fine, whatever. but now??? what the point of half releases? these chapters have been ready for a long time, and there's no way asagiri and the editors and whoever else is involved arent aware of how frustrated the readers have been for years now. the only explanation i can think of is that maybe the manga will have a different arc conclusion and ctheyre trying to idk, make it seem like we're following the anime closely? idk this shit is so stupid

overall this past arc or two have been bad, there are some elements that make them enjoyable still, but there is no theme consistency and overreliance on cliff hangers (that ppl still somehow buy). it feels like there are no stakes to the story, and that's really bad. maybe it's why i was hoping for fukuzawa to be killed alongside fukuchi idk, it'd finally feel like something is changing

on a brief positive note i quite enjoyed fyodors death, weird catholic freak, ofc nikolai is cradling your arm like this. i was a little suprised to see fyodor killed just yet (bc he always needed to die for the story to be able to wrap up eventually), but given the jesus quote, he may as well come back in some way tbh

And in terms of watching something to read it, I TOTALLY get it. I don't read a lot of fan fics as it is and then reading stuff I have zero idea of the context just doesn't do anything for me. I can enjoy the writing style and stuff but have no idea what's going on so I normally skip over 😂

Bungou has always been on my "to watch list" since I came out (I just suck at watching things) And I can say the first handful of episodes are super gimmicky. It reminded me of early 2010s anime so I continued watching it as a novelty but wasn't invested. When it got more into the Atsushi/Akutagawa storyline and away from Dazai I started to get into it. The fight scenes are dope and the emotional message is fun to pick apart and analyze. Dashed with a little bit of humor (bc how can you not laugh when everyone is a walking daddy/mommy issue basket case fighting the fucking American Literature big shots) But I'm also a huge nerd and EVERYTHING has a real life connection to authors and poets so the lore is neat to pick apart. It's not like in my top 5 but definitely in my top 10 of favorites. Its worth the watch if you like shows with lore heavy relevance to real life things. Plus Atsushi is cute 😏

1. What would prevent you from following someone?

well, it’d probably depend on how put-together their blog looks, and i think the frequency with which they write is also important. also, someone having too many rules or rules that sound too aggressive is something that might put me off, but if i really like their muse i dunno if it’d prevent me from following.

2. Are aesthetics important to you? If they are, why?

on some level, yes. on one hand, i won’t follow someone with good graphics if their writing sucks, but it IS a little bit of a deterrent when someone doesn’t put a lot of effort into their blog graphics because if their pages and replies also seem pretty lackluster then it makes me think they just don’t care as much?

3. What current rp trend do you hate?

DEFINITELY dash-only blogs. i say this while following a lot of them, and i don’t hate the people who do have dash-only blogs, but it feels like it’s really redundant now. the trend of google doc rules started because normal rules pages aren’t very accessible to mobile users, and while i think that kind of accessibility is great.. a lot of people have rules pages that aren’t even READABLE on mobile. plus, i just like having everything in one place.

4. How do you explain rp to someone in the real world?

i dunno. if i have to, i straight up say it’s “collaborative writing, where each person writes a character and you build a story together” because it sounds less embarrassing than saying “i write anime mark twain and sometimes if i’m feeling spicy he fucks pumpkins”.

5. Do you prefer interacting with male muses or female more? Why?

i don’t think i have a preference. i definitely find myself interacting with male muses more, but that’s more because my friends tend to write male muses more than female muses.

gender isn’t REALLY a factor in my muse choices. i have a lot more male muses than female muses, but i think that itself is more of an issue with the writing of most of the female muses in the series i like, because they seem a lot more.. stale, in most cases? then you have servamp, which only has like 4 female characters total.

7. What’s your opinion on call out posts?

if they’re not angry and opinion-based, and are well-put together with evidence from multiple sources, i might reblog it if i feel it’s relevant to warn my friends and acquaintances about someone. generally, though, i tend to stay away from them.

8. Name any three things about the rpc that bother you.

the fact that nobody seems to want to talk to eachother, the unpopularity of open starters, and people who refuse to accept that others can have headcanons different than theirs.

9. What is your opinion on exclusivity? Do you practice it? Why / why not?

i don’t mind exclusivity ever. i do very rarely practice exclusivity, because there are occasions where i’m REALLY attached to a certain bond or dynamic that has formed between my muse and my partner’s. i think all of my current exclusive relationships are with kit, but i’ve probably at least thought about being exclusive if we have a developed relationship between our muses.

10. Have you ever had a bad experience with commissions? As either someone who makes them or as someone who buys them?

i’ve actually never commissioned someone because i’m afraid of coming off as rude or demanding even though i know most artists probably WANT more commissions so they make more money.

11. What do you know now about rp that you wish you knew when you first started?

i wish i knew how important graphics were to the general community! i was a total mess with my first blog and i didn’t know how to do anything. not a lot of people wanted to interact, but i’m very grateful for the ones who did, because without them i wouldn’t be writing here!

12. Have you been involved in drama? Do you regret it?

yes. as someone who has unpopular opinions within the fandom, i have found myself caught up in petty fandom drama. the drama that most impacted me happened in the bsd fandom where i sent another rper an ask on anon and we got into a pretty short-lived but heated fight. i used to feel really bad about it, but recently i’ve realized how much they were overreacting and being kind of an asshole about it, so now when i think back on it it almost makes me laugh a little.

13. Have you ever thought about leaving rp? What caused it? What changed your mind?

i have not. yet.

14. Do you think rp has had a positive or negative affect on your life or you as a person?

overall, i think rp has been pretty positive for me. i’ve become a lot more consistent with my writing and my writing style and over the time i’ve had my blog i’ve started to get a little better at replying to more things rather than just dropping things the moment i don’t feel like writing them.

15. How has rp changed you personally?

i think i’m a lot more confident with my writing than i was beforehand. it’s nice.

16. If you could change one thing about rp on tumblr, what would it be? Why?

probably just the general divide between rpers. recently i’ve been trying to reach out to more people, but it’s a little exhausting on my mental health to do that when a lot of people generally seem like they don’t want to branch out much.

the only time i can recall was sending myself asks from a headcanon meme because nobody else had sent anything and i was really bummed about it.

yes. i’m not proud of it, but it happened on my old gentle blog a couple of times. i’m not sure why i did it, but i guess i just wanted to seem cool or to get attention. i’d never do that today but tbf i was like 14, shit happens. 14 year olds are just like that.

19. Do you delete anon hate or post and address it? Why?

it depends. sometimes i’ll post and address it if it’s an issue i want to address seriously. sometimes if it’s a repeat offender like the person who wants me to have less muses i’ll post it and poke fun at them. other times, like in the case of the really creepy and weird anons i kept getting before, i’ll delete the ask and block the anon.

20. Have you ever felt pressured to write something you weren’t comfortable with?

not recently, but yes. on my very first blog i had a hard time saying no to an oc that REALLY wanted to ship with my muse, and it honestly made me uncomfortable enough to leave that blog and make a new one. i also had some bad experiences on the site i USED to rp on where someone pushed me into rping smut when i was still like 13-14. bad times, man.

Sayaka, Sayaka, Sayaka. I love her! From her bold personality to her musical theme, everything about her is just so much fun! And that one scene with Elsa Maria... gives me chills every time. I may or may not have learned to play her theme songs. I had to do it.

4. Akemi Homura (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)

Homura-chaaaaaaan, why are you so cool? The mysterious transfer student who’s quite literally from Madoka’s dreams, Homura's quite possibly the most intriguing character of the series. She’s got a lot of facets to her and I love them all. Plus, look at that hair. L’oreal, because Madoka is worth it...

3. Asuka Langley Soryu (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

Asuka! My girl! With her fiery personality and equally fiery hair, I can’t lie--she basically showed up on screen and immediately grabbed my attention. Later on, though, was when I really got attached to her. Watching the amount of pain she went through and her desperate need to be seen... oh, yeah. 1. L Lawliet (Death Note)

That’s right, it’s the frog detective we all know and love! I freely admit it, from the absolute moment he showed up on my screen I pretty much knew I was going to love him, and the more he did, the more obvious it became. I’m such a sucker for the genius detective archetype, particularly the ‘odd’ ones(Sherlock Holmes, Edogawa Ranpo(the BSD edition, not the real-life one, haha), that frog right there...). It’s been that way ever since I was young and I doubt it’s going to stop any time soon, to be honest. Mello sort of snuck up on me in terms of appreciation, but L was like a punch to the face. ‘You will appreciate this character!’

Again, he’s... not that great a person, but I love him anyway. 

Plus, he’s relatable too... he acts... so much like me... this is why I armchair diagnose him... but this isn’t the time to be dying on any hills. I have people to tag!

you know he wouldn’t even be that bad if he wasn’t the perspective character, I guess he would be another tanizaki or kenji who ALSO have no motivation or character arc or plot relevance but you know, they’re charming enough? cute tertiary characters are fine. 

(actually bsd largely has an issue with narratively redundant characters but that’s another rant)

but as soon as you realize kyouka could have served all the exact same purposes while also having her own character arc, from the get go, it’s hard to not be bitter.

/mumbles she even has more interesting dynamic with telling Akutagawa to suck it, because he actually cares about her and wanted to help her in his own way but actually just fucked her up worse and she is both justifiably mad but also values his opinion and ??? ???? ???? am i to believe that Kyouka wOULDN’T, if learning from Dazai, tell Akutagawa to sTOP BEING A MURDER DOG?

Just to clarify I actually have very few issues with this, HOWEVER what would be nice if anime seasons took a few years to make so animators aren't being pushed to the brink. I appreciate bsd and jjba for that, because the animation is always top tier and the crew and cast are much more genuinely happy to talk about it because they get more leeway and more time to perfect the final project.

Bnha is arguably a massive import and one of the highest grossing profits for bones, so I know WHY they chose to release a less-than-completed version of the season on time rather than give it the extra months that employees missed with quarantine. It still sucks for everyone except for shareholders and the most annoying fans tbh.
