soooo I did a thing... this is a bit silly (and still a work in progress) (and also wayyy too long for an actual pre-show playlist, unless we think he wouldn't have an opener, which... im not sure about yet)
also, i tried to not put a lot of Taylor on this because i still HC that he has one-sided beef with her HOWEVER I HAD to add Anti-Hero (because Sam said so), I Can Do it with a Broken Heart (because i feel like he would consider it better fitting to himself than her, because what does this 34 yo child know about broken hearts anyway?) and Bad Blood (I think thats self explanatory). A lot of Lady Gaga and Britney. Some Queen, some Charli XCX, some Chapell Roan and a lot more.

really do need to talk about it so spoilers for iwtv s2 finale beneath the cut
hi. i am so torn on this episode so this will be spilt into two parts, things i liked and things i didn't. excuse all grammar and spelling i really am not focused on that now.
things i liked:
first and foremost the theatre fire/ louis' revenge. I really liked the way he got out of the crypts and then him plotting his revenge in the graveyard, acting very manic and delirious. I immediately thought of Les Innocents with the graveyard as well which felt intentional and i love that. I really really enjoyed seeing his revenge come to life with the theatre burning, the sabotaged bikes that killed celeste and estelle, and of course cutting santiago's head off with a scythe.
I liked louis and lestat's reunion in new orleans and particulary the tour guide talking outside of 1132 rue royale, even if what he said wasn't the true story and was a little bit offensive. parts of the reunion i didnt like but that was more influenced by the other overall things i didnt like.
DANIEL! VAMPIRE DANIEL! wished we saw a little more of how we got here but i think that will be revealed in more depth next season. But i loved that danny is a vampire and armand is his maker. to me this basically confirmed that devil's minion happened, even if danile doesn't remember. armand would not have made daniel out of spite, he would only have made him if he loved him too much to lose, this is explicit canon, and i love it. loved daniel's fuckass tv interiew as well and his glasses and colour changing eyes.
I liked the ending, liked that setup for TVL/QOTD plotlines.
On that one i loved the Akasha mention from lestat to armand, and saying that louis doesn't know what that means. armand knows Akasha was kept by marius, even if he thinks marius is dead and that akasha could be kept by someone else i think this is the first nod towards marius being alive/showing up, as it says lestat had to meet marius to drink from akasha
I liked the weird little detail that the vampire sam is apparently in daft punk now. interesting. i still think he's actually ******* but yeah two things can be true
things i didn't:
lestat??? saved??? louis?? listen i fully understand that armand FUCKED UP here with directing the play but i knew that. I knew that it's in the books and is more than enough for loumand divorce! but oh my god saying that he would have let louis die makes NO SENSE??? why would he save louis in ep3 then just plan and direct hs death later. I swear i am not a book purist but he directed the play, manipulated lestat and killed claudia because he wanted louis for himself, this is purely his motivations in the books that feels like complete character assasination from one point of view. Having lestat save louis feels like a sloppy way of pushing the narrative back into the loustat box and make it purely like "oh armand never loved louis and was so much worse than lestat." I just... cant get past this. the entire 'i could not prevent it' was made so much better with the fact that he could because he saved louis, but not claudia. Thats purely in character for armand, this is not. When louis asked lestat in new orleans if he was the one who saved him during the trial i was basically begging lestat to say no because this makes no sense. They better have a good reason for this because if they leave it there i will be deeply upset. and im not even a loumand shipper particuarly.
Also did not like the mentions of what they did with Claudia's ashes. the first two were just upsetting and horrible but the third that was literally another sexual assault. not necessary :/ i choose to believe santiago was lying to infuriate louis.
overall i think it is a good setup for a third season if a little weird and ooc right now, i think (or hope) a lot of the loose ends and parts that don't make sense will be addressed in s3 and im so glad s3 is confirmed because if it wasn't i'd be worried.
#iwtv spoilers#not tagging any more because this is just my mad thoughts#might write more meta thoughts when they're in order

I cant get over M whispering "you'd be perfect for me" to A while rolling her hips HOW DID SHE GET SO CONFIDENT???
HEHEHEHEH well regarding ur question it could be rhetorical but im breaking it down bc thats always fun heheh SO. as is evident. in tvl marinette is simultaneously more comfortable around adrien (due to having dated him) and also more awkward around him (due to having broken up)
but in her mind she didn’t break up with him because she lost interest or anything, and the break up hit him pretty hard and hurt him A LOT. and post break up tvl Marinette has always wanted to try and like. make it somewhat better, help him feel happier, etc etc. bar… actually dating him again. hence why she’s a lot more cautious with him than she is in her friendships w alya and nino. this has always been how she is to an extent w adrien but it just turned up More when tvl adrienette broke up - hence the whole scene where he asks her to be More Comfortable around him, and to be as mean as she wants, to scold him when he messes up instead of coddling him
ANYWAY. when ur gf breaks up w you out of the blue and never really gives you a very satisfying explanation or anything that lets u understand WHY it happened—you’d fill in those gaps from time to time. especially when said ex gf talked very loudly about how the committed casual sex she’s been having w some unknown guy whose identity you aren’t aware of is SO GREAT AND AWESOME AND EPIC
so yeah when tvl adrien is insecure about their break up that throws ALL of tvl Marinette’s logic and apprehension out the window and her One Track Mind will do or say anything to reassure him. also he had just recently explained that he DOESNT have a gf and also she found out that he knows he’s a senti. which had been a secret she was keeping from him. so that like. lowered her guard slightly too. mix everything up together and you get her VERY eager to prove to him JUST how desirable he is in her eyes

The biggest WTF for me is when book fans are like well Louis is a liar in the books about why xyz didn't happen in the show and I'm like well if he's lying about everything then why am I watching this show?? are you gonna retell the entire first season with what really happened? cause I feel like the show is wasting my time then.
Any and all Lestat propaganda is lost on me. Anytime someones like well in the books he's not like this, I'm like I dont care that's not what he's like on the show so stfu.
Also I have no fucking clue what ppl are talking about with daniel + armand most of the time like I don't understand how the fuck s1 hints at anything other than an adversarial relationship at the moment.
im assuming ur the same anon as here..
and its like yeah its obvious some things didnt happen the way they did cuz its louis’s point of view & we will get another look at certain scenes but if the whole season is a total lie thats a waste of tv lol. granted the book iwtv narrative is more straightforwardly dark. theres no two interviews theres just one interview in the 70s (which was contemporary. iwtv published in 1976) .and the most that’s ‘contradicted’ in that imo is.. of course getting lestat’s point of view and all but also. ok. so you know how in the show lestat kills the tenor and clicks out on louis saying embrace what you are? in the book, lestat did the same thing but it was w/ these sex workers/prostitutes instead. in tvl lestat is like well actually these women were robbing the seamen so i wasnt the bad guy. this is actually why i think show lestat is nicer than book lestat! not rly cuz he did the same shit to lily. seriously tho book and show les were twins separated at birth and sent off to different universes imo. & in the book louis links w/ lestat whos bog body down bad holding a child and turning his back on him its irony its melodrama and we’re never sure if that scene actually happened. according to les well it didnt and louis was just a drama queen embellishing. thats what louis is, a drama queen embellishing things LOL. & the suspicion around armand is warranted like hes a powerful vampire with an adeptness in the mind gift, but he also loves lestat + his form of showing that is yandere crazy af aka torturing the people lestat cares about if not beating and tormenting lestat himself and its like..armand would do some shit like that hes crazy but itd be a bit boring if all of s1 was a big lie ?. let all the yaoi be problematic! i def think that theres some freaky shit going on between armandxlouis… the 1x07 reveal was like heyy danny ik i just checked out 5 seconds ago but i went from a bad bf to worse :3 the snake sheds his skin as ive dubbed it. i thought armand was rashid tvc until i seen the marius painting and the reveal had me sooo hype. the finale is the biggest divergence in the book besides the obvious changes (race, era, certain scenes etc etc) the fact that theres 2 interviews and that armand x louis are together in the modern day. in the book armand broke up with louis just before the interview, tried to mack on bog body struggle bus lestat and when all that failed he went to fuck w/ daniel. daniel was named in the third book finally and he was revealed to be w/ armand to have this crazy psychosexual bdsm worldwide cruising (well. armand watching danny fuck) blood airtagging romance rigmarole for a few yrs post interview cuz armand wanted someone to teach him what being human was like again and daniel wanted a demonic satanic zaddy. i am the devil’s minion (title chap drop!) armand’s put in a situation where he has to turn a dying 32 year old (book) daniel into a vampire. in the show clearly, daniel is old now but hes dying still. s1 doesnt show much so i can get why ur confused but in later seasons the nature of all their relationships between show armandxlouis , daniel & what happened and how theyll adapt the axd dynamic will be clearer to us all. i just think ppl r too committed to particular fan theories or takes rn. the ennui of being into an ongoing adaptation

rj said they're looking at the series holistically and anne might not have foreseen the way it would devolve post book 1-3, the writers do and are willing to set the tone for the show from the jump. i dont think they will include certain plotpoints - i actually think thats how this adaptation will veer off the source material. pretty sure he said he wants a 'more elegant' approach to totbt if they ever do it. that tells me he's willing to make drastic changes that align with his vision. one without the internal inconsistencies riddled in the books. and ofc with the promise of louis as a colead, i dont think their relationship will ever take a backseat but rather the plots of the books will be warped around them. ofc thats not a possibility in tvl flashbacks but after that who knows. he pitched it as gothic romance after reading all the books i think the drama will only be ratched it up but that doesnt mean they wont have moral themes in it.
I‘m totally fine with changes from the books (obviously ^^), but gothic romance or not I‘m not here for the focus on love-jealousy-triangles. 🤷🏽♀️ This isn’t the bachelor or smthg.
They can totally make the relationships dramatic but pure jealousy themes wear off so easily imho.
Tedious, to paraphrase Lestat, and I would argue quite a lot of people are not looking forward to more Antoinette-level drama… It was fun in season 1, in a way, but season 1 had no(t much) external vampiric drama?!
Armand will bring in another level of it of course, but… well. It’s my stance on it 🤷🏽♀️
And… I don’t think it needs to be sheer jealousy for Loustat to be dramatic either. There’s so much more in the books for them.

thinking about parallels... in TVL i took it to be that armand genuinely believes that oh well im doing lestat a favor by killing nicki bc thats what he really wants anyway bc he hates him now that he's turned him etc... do you think there's a similar thought process with turning daniel RE: what louis wants? genuinely not sure, just came to my mind when you posted that!
oh damn i’m reading it for the first time so i didn’t even know armand actually kills nicki LOL i guess i always assumed nicki just kills himself RIP umm crazy i love the mystery box of every interpretation of the turning we have now my instinct would not be to go to that but who knows

ok. i had to run off to cook dinner but now im back and we’re doin a proper review
shoutout to body horror but in the fact that having a mortal body IS the horror very relatable. what do you mean ‘what is your relationship to gender and your own identity’ where the fuck did you get that sort of idea what are you a cop??
unfortunately this was the book that gave me the most discomfort of the series so far. sex isnt real what are you people doing!!!!!!! other that those. bits. though. it was good.
david talbot my GOAT. hes so funny. he and lestat living out their cunty little billford ass relationship but with less actual crimes for three and a half years.
raglan james was a little freak and not entirely in a bad way?. yeahyeah he made me mad that shallow little creep . but he was just a weirdo living his best goddamn life. a scammer. impressive he had the balls to scam lestat,
but then again lestat has published his life story twice over at this point and louis published first, a third, so i mean. thats not great for personal security man you shoulda seen this coming. you get famous* someones gonna try and scam you eventually. nvm this is the 90s they didnt have internet safety back then. or barely internet. they have dial up. i barely remember dial up. lestat de lioncourt would get so mad at mean tumblr anons
*famous. uh. lestat’s probably more famous for his books than being the vampire lestat by now huh. maybe it’s the same fame, he did publish tvl (book) as part of tvl (career) fuckkkkk why did he have to make this so confusing. and it’s his fucking title too.
going back to james scamming lestat. that last scam. was. hooooooooooooooooooly shit that was ballsy and im impressed but he deserved everything he got for it. worse even. damn!! that was all ( / most of what) lestat wanted !!! and you bastard pulled the rug from under him in The Moment !!!! no wonder lestat went and risked his entire relationship with david after this jfc he thought for just a moment he had all he wanted finally!!!!!!! what the fuck!!! i didnt realise how much this whole thing makes sense until now!!!!!!!!
ok.
theres 9 more books in this series.
but honestly? im happy to stop reading here.
reading iwtv, you wondered what the true nature of vampires was because louis was clear he didnt know much and didnt really want to know more. and so you read tvl. and in tvl you see the true nature of vampires, and of lestat, and he’s fun, and the worst, and you want to hear more of him, and it doesnt help it ends on a cliffhanger. and so you read qotd. and qotd reveals the talamasca, and ends with lestat striking up a conversation with david, and you’re like, oh that’s interesting, that could- no, it will be fun to read. and so you pick up totbt. and you get exactly the follow-up lestat needs from the trauma dump that was qotd, you get lestat with his sparkle back on and he’s happy/grateful to be himself for once, you get david’s story and relationship with lestat, how they really work, how they resolve their back and forth. and then the book ends. sure, there’s hints at a new story. but this is a conclusion, the first true conclusion since iwtv (which wasnt really a conclusion either! daniel goes off to find lestat at the end!)
the question of WILL i stop here however. ehhh we’ll see this one was pretty hard to find for a decent price but i persevere.
i need to stop buyin shit i dont need im literally unemployed
#liveblog#the book is still intact neither the covers fell off nor the pages fell out. some of the spine did flake off though.

Hello! This is probably super random I actually found you through tik tok lol and I love your content!!! I was just wondering what your thoughts were on the [potential] Vampire Chronicles tv series thats in the works? I know there isn't a ton of information on it at this point. Hope your doing well! 😊
Thank you!! I’m glad you like what I put out there! To answer your question, yes, I am quite excited about a possible tv series of the Vampire Chronicles. At least, that’s the short answer.
I am interested in how they will tell the story. I don’t have a problem with going in chronological order, with Lestat’s story first, and since we already have the IWTV movie, it’d be cool to show Lestat’s side of it—but I worry about the characterization. Anne Rice is so far gone in terms of Mary-Suing Lestat into oblivion, and I don’t want her to sink her new hooks into her first Lestat, the flawed, starry-eyed distaster I fell in love with and related to so much. I want him to be portrayed well, and I also want Louis to be respected.
As early as TVL, Louis’ suffering has been sort of downplayed. Yes, he may have been stubborn and closed off, causing most of his own problems, but it is criminal the way Anne Rice diminished his character as the books went on. He is strong, he has depth, and if I am to get a TV series, I better see him A LOT.
Do I trust Anne Rice with her own characters? Absolutely fucking not. If this is to be a good series, I want it be a situation like the IWTV movie, where the director has a LOT of creative say.
Do I trust Christopher Rice with these characters? Not as much but more than Anne. He will definitely keep it as gay as it rightfully should be, but I don’t agree with him when he says Lestat tops on characterization.
I am concerned with how the later books will be handled. Idk how new audiences will react to the dramatic shifts therein
Either way, I am desperate for more content. I am FOAMING at the mouth. Please feed me AMC. I am begging you.

I think most VC fans agree with Anne's take on Lestat though, they see him as faultless which the narrative validates cause no one ever challenges his version of events, like we are all just supposed to assume it was Louis who lied and nothing else, that's why they're all up in arms about what happened in the show cause "he would never do that". Hell even with the show some of them think he didn't deserve the murder and fully blame Claudia for causing the rift.
yea, its tricky cuz no one not the meta narrative or in universe actually challenges lestat when it comes to his response to louis’s interview, but id say characters in tvc absolutely challenge lestat’s character [his disposition, ways of thinking, actions& shit] & get on his ass heavy. so i feel like that implicitly should put his perspective in question the same as any other character’s [at least it did for me] but ur rite in that the vc fanbase esp the OGs do fall in line w rice’s own opinions. it certainly didnt help that shed get on ppl’s asses for writing fic, disagreeing with her, had a wide variety of contradictory, differing opinions on her own work& ppls interpretation of the text that didnt agree perfectly w/ however she felt at the time.. yk the whole interrogating the text from the wrong perspective essay on amazon reviews lol. yet certainly we are all bonded in discussing an adaptation of her literary canon which says sum yk. i think expecting a visual medium to perfectly adapt a book line by line is impossible if not borderline ignorance, but an excellent adaptation will show what made the source a good, veritable commentary on humanity. i dont think ppl should fly into deranged clear the searches campaigns when amc does use the merits of rice’s work & interrogates lestat’s crueler ways more than his cruel actions that was glossed over in the source [bc rice had diff intentions/views on it]. i think the nature of visual adaptations done decades after the source mean as viewers, we are already exposed to multiple threads from tvc (tvl, tva, allusions to the mayfair family, the talamasca, the whole impending vampire apocalypse which may or may not be a red herring this time, claudia’s diary, etc) that show this is not only louis’s interview, but a question on the fruit of memory itself. what is recollection to an immortal creature but a drop in the ocean? what does it mean to be immortal, if not living the same live over. and over. and over. again? anyways likeeee tbf at least anne rice had an excuse for why she was so crazy about lestat, he was her muse & based off the man she stayed with all her life. honestly if i made a trio based off me, my old work& our abortion and it blew up like this id delete my presence from everyone’s minds lol. but. them fans dont have an excuse cuz thats not what lestat means to them. ofc these books & lestat’s chara may have been pivotal in their coming of age but i also think as now adults, they should accept w the infamy of tvc & its adaptations mean varying ppl w different frames of reference will have different takes on this. yea, as kids we cant articulate an understanding of dv and intimidation tactics , but as adults u should be able to re evaluate fictional dynamics & have mature discourse w/o flashing out on ppl or going on clear the searches campaigns. i guess the existence of rl martyrs for these fictional vampires answer the question ppl had yesterday on antoinette too? lol

I get why the iwtv/tvl whiplash drives people insane like look at the movies, the interview movie made a looot of money yet they never bothered to even develop tvl or had any plans to make it, they just waited almost a decade and skipped to qotd. i truly do not envy anyone trying to adapt all of anne's retconning into something that makes sense. good luck to rolin!
at least the interview movie was salvageable product even if tom cruise been under the knife more than a piece of meat at the butcher + fad pitt was a homophobic crash test dummy .. like ik bukuu ppl who knew the 94 movie thats how i sell the modern show to ppl. on the other hand, the qotd movie is an abomination to any decent understanding of what it means to tell a story literally the only good thing the qotd movie added was setting a precedent for a fanon akasha thats darker than a sheet of paper .. bc a primordial god vampire w an indic name + worshipping egyptian gods /somehow is also an ancient egyptian god [???] dont got no business being described as paper white every other page😂😂✌🏾 pray for rolin i did always wanna see an actual respect to the second half of interview n tvl on the big screen& im excited
#yn.#yn answers#I wanna see akasha androcide treated w some RESPEK!!#Yk we drag fad pitt flop louis all day but cruise lestat was overrated son aint even try to do a french accent

i liked tvl but you don't think the last bits w. armand in paris and the subsequent depression coma are meant to make us feel bad for what louis&claudia did? in iwtv louis already feels guilty for it but then again louis feels guilty for everything but it did feel like cuz she made lestat a tiny bit self-aware (how he would've done the same) it was meant to make us feel like awww no babe you didn't deserve that when in fact he probably deserved worse lmao. its not as bad as later books when he becomes a total gary stu special bloro but the seeds are there as in that whatever he does he'll always be supported by the narrative and no one else really gets a say
Well thats not how i took it cuz what would armand putting lestat in the torture rack have anything to do with claudia (+ louis) getting their lick back? sure as lestat is an antagonistic lover in interview to lew so is armand in tvl to lestat but. idk if its guilt driving lew so much so as regret + terror. in the interview / rue royale narrative presented in interview, lew wasnt nearly as intimate with les. in the latter half of interview, he truly believed lestat was dead at the time so he lamented the relationship he longed for &/or longed for a more ‘familiar’ environment as opposed to the newity of euro vamps. & what was guilt in some instances was also terror at the fear of being ‘found out’ having his mind read n being tried in a kangaroo vampire court for the violation of murdering ur maker [+ hes significantly weaker than most of these vampires] n i took the armand/depressive comas for lestat as ‘there are bigger forces waiting to humble lestat’ + that idea of ‘humbling’ is actually entailed in egregious cruelty. armand also served in this book as an antagonistic force not only in lestat’s life but also as a means to introduce lestat to a whole new tier of vampires [marius, twmbk] & their history along w/ lestat’s , establishing him as a competing or even equal force already to these ancient vamps at such a relatively young age bc hes the main character of this particular book/a MC of the overall chronicles? idk maybe im semi immune to the lestat hammer & rewriting time myself who knows whats intended retroactively by writers or pop fanon im just interpreting how i took whats on the pages of those specific books
