"Yes, that's right," she said, cutting him off before he could continue his thought. "Well, you're coherent enough, which is good." She didn't know how to continue while speaking in a foreign language, so she naturally switched back to English as she muttered her thoughts aloud. "You don't have any visual or auditory hallucinations, and judging from how you were squirming when I bandaged you, you haven't lost any feeling in your limbs or parts of your body, either. Now we've just gotta work on getting your body to detox those drugs..."

Knowing Ren's mental state was clear like this was certainly helpful. He wasn't too far gone. The issue with his name could wait-- it could be a personal issue that she didn't fully understand yet, since she wasn't as close to him as the other Phantom Thieves-- almost everything else was perfectly sound and clear, if a bit groggy. This was a good sign.

"Earlier today, I did my best to make bulyon, a Russian-style chicken broth," Sylvia said. "I brought it in a pot, and it's waiting downstairs. I made it because it's flexible, and you can put whatever you want in it to make it taste better. Boss should have finished heating it back up by now, so I'll get you a bowl of soup and bread. If you're still hungry after that, there's rice, and I could make you a cup of tea, or Boss could make some coffee. Just wait here for about five minutes, okay? I'm not leaving the building; I'll be right back. If you need anything before then, send Morgana, okay? Don't stand up."

Carefully, she draped Ren's blanket over his shoulders, trying to move gently so that it didn't brush against any of his bruises and bandages, then as if moving automatically, she pressed her lips against his forehead and patted his shoulders and walked down the stairs.

...she tried not to think about how her body moved on its own like that. What the hell possessed her to kiss Ren's forehead like that? Ugh, forget it. She'd just chalk it up to her being relieved Ren was alive and leave it at that.

For some reason, she was reminded of when she was younger, and she'd get so frightened of the thunderstorm her brother would sit her down in the basement, wrap her in blankets, and kiss her forehead before going up to grab some snacks and keep her company. Except somehow, she was the one taking care of the big brother now...

"Okay, good... I think," he mumbled. At least he could still make out faces and voices.

Now as for the date, that he didn't know. He wasn't good at dates to begin with. He also wasn't really sure how long he had spent in that interrogation room to begin with, let alone how long he'd been out of it. Any answer he gave would be little more than guessing.

"Um... I don't know. We were in Sae's Palace, and I got caught, and... it all hurt so much..." He reached up and held his head in his hands, trying to steady himself. Truly, Sae had gotten lucky when she questioned him. She managed to get him right in the sweet spot, while his adrenaline was high enough to make his thoughts clearer, and before the worst effects of the drugs had hit him.

"It hurts... And Akechi... Akechi..."

"Deliiiiivery! :D" Renbob calls in a sing-song voice, holding a stack of boxes in his arms. "RK, where you at my brother?"

He stands in the empty loading dock at the back of the Colosseum, smiling expectantly at the vacant bay. He likes hels. It's warm, and the people are interesting. It could stand to be a little more colorful, but not all pretty places are colorful. Like the beach for example! It's mostly just yellow and blue and hot, and it's still pretty.

(That's perfect actually! Hels makes him think of the beach: hot and monocolor, but somehow still interesting once you get past all the sand. Hah! Imagine a beach in hels! It'd be like a sauna, all steam and rocks.)

"RK I know you can hear me," Renbob calls again. "I can't hold these boxes all day! Well I can, but I will get bored you know?"

There is a grumbling, growling sound that comes from everywhere, but mostly the back of his head. It starts as several whispered and snarled words, and slowly coalesces into a string of coherent thought, "I don't answer to the name RK here, lad."

"My bad, must've gotten you mixed up with someone," Renbob chuckles. "Do you want your delivery?"

"Loading bay?"

"They won't let me park the van anywhere else, my brother. Oh! Please bring your favorite sword, if you don't mind? :)"

There is a cacophony of barks and growls as Red's presence slips out of the back of Renbob's mind. He wonders if Red knows that's the sound his thoughts make: an angry pack of wolves. They aren't kind wolves. They whisper a lot of unkind things when they trail after Red's thoughts. He wonders if that's why Red is always so nice to people: he's keeping the wolves from the door, so to speak.

Red strides into the loading bay, one hand on the wall as a guide until it ends in the open room. He steps confidently even when the wall is gone. The iron crown, sunk down low over his eyes, either doesn't hinder his sight, or he's memorized enough of the Colosseum that it doesn't bother him anymore.

"What sound do my thoughts make :O ?" Renbob asks. Red, who'd been walking a little too far to the left of him, twitches his big, wolf-like ears and realigns his path, meeting Renbob where he stands in front of his camper van.

"What sound do ye... Thoughts make?"

"Yeah, do they make like, sound? I always figured you'd hear a pleasant background of guitar and ukulele music."

Red tilted his in an expression that probably meant he was raising his eyebrows. It was hard to tell with the crown in the way. "Ye thoughts sound like yer voice. Though there do be a slight... Birdsong type noise."

"Is it chillaxin?"

"Aye sure."

"Groovy! :D" Renbob laughed. "I'll take it then! And like, you can take these."

He passes the stack of boxes to Red, who struggles a bit with their weight.

"What all have ye brought for me lad?" Red grunts, giving up on holding them all and setting them down. "All I asked for were some of those hot chips, and ye lemon squares."

"Oh it's just some bits and bobs, mostly," Renbob hums brightly, counting on his fingers. "There's a shulker of emerald and lapis (you said you were looking for a new color to go with all the red? :V those are opposite on the color wheel might be a good place to start! :) ), a shulker of flowers for dyes (all labeled. Are you color blind? I can't remember. Anyway I labeled the dye colors they make ^_^), three boxes of lemon squares (for you and your hand and a box for your Colosseum buddies! I'm sure they'd love some :D), two bags of spicy chippies, and I got you two bolts of fabric (your cloak is getting so torn up :( you've gotta take better care of your stuff brother!). Oh, and there's a few diamonds in there I nicked from Ren. (He won't miss 'em I promise ;) )."

Red tilted his head to the side, "How...? In the world...?"

"Hmm? :)"

"How do ye make...? With your voice...? Ye know what, it be unimportant," Red chuckled, a growling noise that fractured on the edges, a hint of the wolf-thoughts that leaked into real life. "Alas lad, I did not know ye would bring so much, else I would have had payment ready for such finery."

"Oh perish the thought, RK!" Renbob grinned, waving a dismissive hand. "You know you don't have to pay me!"

"Er... Red."

"That's what I said. :3"

"I see, ye be jesting?"

"Jest so!"

"Ah," Red smirked and leaned against the tower of boxes. "Ye said ye visited Ren. How fares our little brother?"

"He's older than both of us Red!"

"Aye, but he also be shorter than both of us."

Renbob laughed, bright and hearty, and for a moment, sunshine flickered in the Colosseum. Flowers bloomed around Renbob's feet. "Right you are, brother! Though I think he might be taller than me if I took my platforms off."

"Aye, but I see no universe where ye be making that particular wardrobe choice."

"I dunno. I was thinking about going to the beach after this. Do you guys have beaches in hels?"

"Aye, if you fancy soul sand by the lava lake."

"Oh man, I haven't taken a good lava bath in awhile!"

"Ye do love those an uncanny amount."

"It's exfoliating!"

"Makes me smell like burning hair."

"Well, to like, really enjoy it you have to get past the-- wait! You asked me a question?"

"Our little brother."

"Right! Ren's doing well! Gave him a ride over to his new season with his boyfriend."

Red, who had found one of the boxes of lemon squares during the conversation, coughed out a bite of lemon. "Begging your pardon?"

"You know, those go down a lot better with milk. I think hels dries them out a little. :("

"Ren has a boyfriend?!"

"Oh! Yeah, mister Docm77," Renbob beamed. "I don't think they've made it like, Facebook official yet, but they sure were making a lot of plans together for next season!"

Red sighed out a breath of relief, holding a hand to his chest. "Ye be jesting again."

"Mostly. :)"

"Well, when this great Book of Faces writes their names side by side, ye let me know."

"Certainly!" Renbob crossed his arms behind his back. "Oh, hey, before I go, like, could I ask you a huge favor?"

"Aye, lad?"

"I need a sword. Gonna be hopping to some dangerous orbits soon I think, and like, I'm real peace love and plants and all, so I can't make my own. But I can accept a gift, if you catch my drift?"

"Ah, suddenly all the gifts make sense," Red hums. He reaches down to his sword belt and unbuckles it, passing it off to Renbob, sword, scabbard and all. "Must ye take my most precious one?"

"You know how I work, Red. Only gifts given with love," Renbob grinned. It was a little sharper than it needed to be. Red couldn't see all the teeth. But it was nice to smile wide sometimes. "I do really appreciate it, my brother."

"Of course." Red smiled back, also showing a few too many teeth. Renbob felt a swelling of fondness for Ren's helsmet.

(It really was nice to be with kin sometimes, the people you could really be yourself with. Red didn't think he was unsettling, or fae-like. Red didn't go making a big deal about how widely he smiled, or how much he changed when his whims stretched him around. Red didn't begrudge the odd little pacts and rules he had to follow.)

"Well I'll like, catch you on the flipside brother!" Renbob said cheerfully. "Don't die while I'm gone, ya dig? :)"

"Don't go being any stranger," Red returned, picking up a box to carry back to his rooms. He would need help carrying them all.

oh my god uhhh i don‘t know what to talk about hmmm uhhhh ok ok uhhhhh

uhmmmmmmm uhhhhhhhhh ok maybe an octuplets ramble? yeah sure an octuplets ramble LET‘S GO

when i was in p6 (4th grade i think?) i came up with a silly little story based off my friendgroup called the octuplets where we were, as the name suggests, octuplets. why were we octuplets? well, because i thought that we were all super similar, both in personality and appearance, so i figured why not write a story where we‘re all siblings? (i really badly wanted more siblings when i was a kid…). so yeah.

actually, originally one of my friends wasn‘t an octuplets, instead she was the adult sister because she felt ‚older‘ than all of us (???????? girl why??), and she was the ‚caretaker’ too because for some reason i didn’t want to give us parents (ALSO WHY???????). however because of this i didn’t have an eighth octuplets because we were a group of eight, not a group of nine, so i just shoved in some random girl that i kinda knew (i later replaced her with abother version of that first friend, so there was a millie sr and a millie jr. i explained the two millie situation in the story with ‚millie sr was allowed to name one of her siblings so she chose to name her millie. again.‘)

after a while i decided ‚okay, they need parents’ so i created parents. however i didn‘t properly add them to the main story. instead, i created some CRAZY family lore (which i can‘t decide if i should keep or not…). so there was a dad, adam (NOT pronounced ahduhm) and a mum, grace. adam and grace were a lovely little couple, adam was a bit shy but hardworking and caring, and grace was a bubbly ray of sunshine but also gentle and thoughtful. they and their daughter millie lived a very happy life, until one day, when grace was pregnant with her second child(ren), adam got arrested for drunk driving + speeding. BUT IT WASN‘T HIM WHO WAS DRIVING. IT WAS HIS OLDER BROTHER ANDRZEJ WHO JUST HAPPENED TO LOOK A LOT LIKE HIM. that‘s right, while being chased andrzej was able to speed home, get inside, so once the police arrived they got ADAM because he wasn’t wearing his glasses (adam wears glasses, andrzej doesn’t) and andrzej had locked himself in the bathroom. i have no idea how that was supposed to work but this storyline stuck for AGES.

and if that wasn’t bad enough, when it finally came time for the octuplets to be born (i originally made their birthday the 24th of april because it would be stupid to give them the same birthday as me, but then i realised that was STUPID and a BIG MISSED OPPORTUNITY so their date of birth is the 8th of august 2008 now), SHE DIED, and her mother in law/millie‘s grandma/adam‘s mum leokadia (‚babcia lodzia‘ to the kids) had to look after the kids. however this wasn’t permanent, because in 2017 (when millie was nearly sixteen (her birthday is november 6th 2001 btw) and the octuplets about nine) lodzia‘s OWN mother fell badly ill and so she had to return to poland to look after, meaning MILLIE WAS THE MAIN CARER OF THE OCTUPLETS.

SUPER crazy. i was a rather dramatic story teller when i was in… p7 maybe? this was either p7 or s1 i can‘t remember. i made a lot of millie angst with this. but don’t worry, i didn‘t make her life HORRIBLE because adam was released on her 18th birthday! now if that isn‘t the best birthday present, i don‘t know what is!

i think most of the lore is alright and i‘m going to keep it, but i‘m not sure about adam‘s story… i don‘t know exactly how to change it though?

BUT ENOUGH ABOUT THAT. time to get into the real meat and potatoes…… THE OCTUPLETS THEMSELVES!

so, y‘know how i said that originally the octuplets were based off my real friends? well, i decided to change that somewhere in 2023, because they were so heavily inspired by my friends, i got kind of… scared(?) of writing them, and i started focusing too much on the side characters. so i decided to switch things up a little!

so the octuplets went from aiden, caitlin, mia (shudders), zack, [deadname], millie jr, max/maks and molly to jakub, zosia, gosia, kuba, marek, amelia, darek and alicja. i decided to lean further into the Polish aspect of the octuplets, which i also couldn’t do before because i was the only pole. i originally made the octuplets half scottish on their mother‘s side, but i‘m considering making them fully Polish, since they went from being heavily inspired by my friendgroup, to being loosely inspired by my own life.

i think being an immigrant is a big part of the octuplets story. the octuplets live in a slightly poorer area where the housing is mostly council flats, so they live around many immigrants (and are (second generation) immigrants themselves). for the first half of my life i lived like this too, which was very nice, because that meant i was around many people who shared similar stories to me. (most of the people i lived around that weren’t scottish came from east europe, which is ironic since the only slavic characters i have in the octuplets are the octuplets and their family themselves and kat, who doesn’t become THAT important until teentuplets)

for the first few years of their life, the octuplets couldn’t really communicate with anyone outside their family, as their grandmother didn’t know a word of english, and millie was like. six when they were born so she couldn’t really teach them anything. so when they started primary school, the octuplets would be taken for special english lessons to help them learn the language. these lessons were where they met their best friend, laura !!(who is my second favourite side character to write (it‘s a shocker i haven‘t mentioned about octavia yet…. i will talk about her eventually trust me)) laura‘s super fun, she‘s got this slightly snarky energy to her that i love (it makes her frenemyship with jeremy even funnier to write for me) and she‘s just like. hfhdhgsjdb i don‘t know how to describe her she’s just really cool. love laura. she‘s awesome to write. (i made some pretty wild lore for her too— back when she lived in brazil she got a dirty peice of glass stuck in her right arm but she didn‘t notice so it just stayed there for a few days and then her arm got infected and she had to have it amputated— girl does NOT feel pain)

neurodivergence is also a big thing in the octuplets! besides gosia (who is autistic) each of the octuplets has a specific trait inspired off of me and my adhd: jakub has my ego problems and general theater kid energy, zosia has my seemingly endless supply of energy and intense optimism, kuba has my anxiety and my clinginess, marek has my habit of zoning out and overactive imagination, amelia has my EXTREME hyperactivity and poor impulse control, darek has my laziness and idk that one part of me that is just a sarcastic troublemaking dipshit, and alicja has my high empathy and my habit of saying things that are either extremely out of left field, nonsensical or accidentally offensive. though the ways in which they behave are more inspired by myself from when the octuplets is set (2018-early 2020 (teentuplets takes place in 2023 iirc)), there are some parts that resemble my current self.

the neurodivergence is DEFINETLY inherited btw. grace most likely had adhd (never diagnosed tho 😔), someone on adam‘s side of the family was epileptic (zosia epileptic REAL AND CANON (had to project that on someone)), and adam also had crippling anxiety, hence, kuba. i like writing kuba and alicja‘s dynamic because kuba is most like adam (including in appearance) and alicja is most like grace, it‘s very sweet. kuba has this protective urge over alicja… tbh most of the octuplets do to some extent, she is the youngest after all. however i think she has things under control the most… maybe not tho. in my first attempts at writing her she could be REALLY unhinged. she‘s a lot more mellow now tho!

OOOH I SHOULD BRING UP OCTUPLETS AND HOW THEY ARE WITH EACHOTHER

jakub

with zosia -> jakub makes a big deal of being the oldest but shoves most of his responsibilities onto zosia. zosia is super patient to he likes to see how far he can push her before she snaps (unfortunately for him she never does). he sometimes uses her as a pseudo-big sister and actually listens to her more than he listens to millie!

with gosia -> ohhhh he is so annoying. she‘s definetly his favourite sibling and he WILL make it her problem. when he‘s bored he will bust into the girls‘ bedroom to bother her a bit and criticise her for being a nerdy nerd and always reading. he does genuinely care about her though and feels bad when he pushes her over the edge.

with kuba -> somehow he‘s the straight man of this duo (which is ironic for a multitude of reasons). kuba is constantly terrified of The Consequences of things that don‘t matter. jakub (with his blind confidence) always responds to this terror with surprisingly sound reasoning. he finds himself dragging kuba out of his comfort zone a lot.

with marek -> they were a lot closer when they were younger, but jakub gets pretty bored with marek. he doesn’t care much about marek‘s fantasies— his fantasies are wayyyy cooler. however he respects marek‘s drawing skills („pleaseee draw me please please please“) and the fact he is a fellow theater kid.

with amelia -> god they are an awful duo. jakub THRIVES off of amelia‘s chaotic energy. amelia acts as an instigator for jakub‘s bullshit which is why he really enjoys spending time with her, with amelia he gets to bring his troublemaking to the next level. it is not reccomended to leave them alone for anything over an hour.

with darek -> darek is similar to jakub in a lot of ways, which he finds really ANNOYING. no one can mess with jakub‘s ego the way darek does. jakub gets really stroppy(?) with darek sometimes, but darek (who hardly cares about anything) doesn’t ever give him the reaction he wants, which INFURIATES him. however, he does still get along with him. they talk shit about people often (jakub because he thinks he‘s better than everyone and darek because he likes to criticise people (he also thinks he‘s better than everyone))

with alicja -> he is not a good influence to alicja. he loves using his big brother privilege to make her do dumb shit with him… it‘s his way of bonding with her. he finds it really annoying when people go too soft on her because she is just as stubborn and stupid as the rest of them… though he does treat her a bit like a mini-me sometimes.

zosia

with jakub -> she rolls her eyes at his i‘m-the-best, i-love-me antics, and sighs in disappointment whenever one of his dumb plans backfires, but she does enjoy that jakub-brand chaos he brings to the group. she‘ll turn a blind eye to his mischief sometimes, but she will tease him for his stupid behaviour. she finds him entertaining.

with gosia -> she has an extreme soft side for her. no one understands gosia the way zosia does. she‘s always had a close bond with gosia, helping her out with her emotions, trying to get her out there and make new friends. she‘s tries not to be as extra as she usually is when around gosia. i love writing these two actually

with kuba -> she finds him to be a bit silly. she tries to get kuba to stop being so attached/overprotective of alicja, but that is a bit hypocritical considering what she‘s like with gosia. she tries to be as supportive as possible, but she tries not to put too much faith in him because she knows what he‘s like. zosia loves kuba, but she really wishes he wasn’t such a scaredy cat

with marek -> zosia‘s willing to listen to whatever marek has to say. with how chaotic and uncontrollable the rest of her siblings are, she likes to wind down with a story from marek. she finds his creativity inspiring, even when he gets a little too carried away. he‘s her favourite sibling to play games with, and really appreciates the effort he puts in to making the games feel real (they totally roleplay on roblox together lol)

with amelia -> zosia, the beam of sunshine and sustainable energy source sometimes finds it hard to keep up with amelia‘s hyper as balls personality, but she tries her best! she thinks amelia is really funny, but she does NOT play fair and that can be a bit annoying to her.

with darek -> darek is a bit too negative for her. she really badly wants darek to engage in activities and actually do something because she HATES seeing people left out, but he‘s extremely stubborn. however she‘s not exactly someone who can do everything either, so whenever she has to sit out an activity, she‘ll chat with darek.

with alicja -> alicja is such a sweetheart, so zosia can‘t help but find her endearing. she hates to admit it, but she does baby her sometimes, but she tries her best not to! she‘s very supportive and encouraging of alicja, and, in contrast to some people, tries to keep her away from trouble.

gosia

with jakub -> she finds him… frustrating to be around, to say the least. she tries to tolerate his annoying behaviour, but she isn’t the most patient person out there, so she tends to lash out. she‘s always there to make some sarcastic remark when something he does goes wrong. she doesn’t understand why he‘s so attached to her while she just wants to get rid of him.

with zosia -> zosia is the person she cares about the most. gosia believes she will never meet a person as special as zosia. gosia struggles a lot with normal, everyday things, but zosia‘s support makes her feel so much more normal. thanks to zosia, gosia actually talks about her problems, rather than just bottling them up. guys i genuinely love these two so much

with kuba -> she finds him to be too irrational. she‘s a lot more of a logical thinker than he is, so his outbursts are impossible for her to understand. she can be a bit… harsh to him sometimes, so when he helps her out during her ‚dumb moments‘ (meltdowns), she gets confused, but she appreciates it. despite his irrationalness she still thinks he‘s saner than the others so they are pretty close.

with marek -> there‘s a bit of a clash between these too. gosia is grounded in real life, while marek spends his time making things up. she likes to pick out logical errors in marek‘s stories because innacurate information really bothers her, which bothers him because they‘re just stories and she‘s being boring.

with amelia -> gosia finds amelia‘s antics to be too overwhelming. amelia‘s inability to sit still can be very distracting to her, and she talks wayyy too loud. however, she doesn‘t mind her being a chatterbox, because she‘s also a chatterbox, and amelia‘s always willing to listen to her ramble, which she really appreciates.

with darek -> to her, darek is the only octuplets with common sense. like gosia, darek is a lot more of a logical thinker, and can understand when a situation is stupid. her one problem with him is that he tends to go with the stupid situations anyways because he likes to gloat that he knew things would go wrong.

with alicja -> gosia sees alicja as a mini-amelia, which means she sees the two in a similar light. she doesn’t fall of her baby sibling charm in the way the others do, she just sees her as more childish than her other siblings. alicja has the tendency to get into a lot of questionable situations, which confuses (and kinda impresses) gosia. she wishes she would stay out of trouble and be more mature.

kuba

with jakub -> kuba is impressed with how confident jakub can be, though his insane ego problems can be a bit annoying. he doesn’t show it much, but he does have an admiration for his older brother. he really does love his brother, but he does shout at him sometimes… again, he is terrified of The Consequences.

with zosia -> he appreciates her patience and support, and does find her presence comforting because she is very chilled out. he feels this sense of… control(?) when he‘s around her, like he doesn’t have to worry as much because zosia knows what she‘s doing. he admires how easily she can socialise with people

with gosia -> he cares about gosia a lot, and relates to some of her issues, but sometimes he feels like she doesn’t actually like him, which is very upsetting to him! he would try to control his feelings to make her like him more, but he found that too hard, so he started trying to help her with her own emotions instead.

with marek -> kuba thinks marek is a really fun guy to hang out with! he‘s a relatively relaxed person and everything he comes up with is very interesting, kuba can’t help but feel at ease when spending time together. he likes to share his own stories with him.

with amelia -> he tries his absolute best to keep her in check. unfortunately, kuba is not as good at handling things as he thinks. he likes spending time with amelia, she is really funny, but she gets herself (and others) into trouble wayyyy too much and she isn‘t careful at ALL so he‘s always on edge around her. sometimes he'll lose it and shout at her.

with darek -> darek can be. intimidating. kuba can‘t understand how someone can be so nonchalant, especially in high-stress situations. he also thinks darek is a bit irresponsible and lazy, and wishes he would help out more often.

with alicja -> kuba feels like he‘s responsible for alicja. he’s really protective of her, he can‘t bare the thought of anything bad happening to her because oh, she‘s so sweet, she‘s too innocent! he spends most of his time looking after her… he cares more about her than he does about himself! he takes his role as her big brother way too seriously.

marek

with jakub -> i'm not 100% sure about these two, actually. i feel like marek would miss playing with jakub, but finds his entitledment a lot more annoying than he used to.

with zosia -> he isn't very fond of being the guy who you only hang out with because everyone else is annoying you, but he really enjoys zosia's company. he's a lot more of an indoors-play kinda guy compared to zosia, but he's not opposed to getting a little bit muddy outdoors with her, as long as their not playing tag!

with gosia -> marek sees gosia as a bit of a killjoy, not just because her constant correcting is annoying, but he feels bad that she seemingly doesn't find any joy in make beleive. he wishes she wasn't so serious all the time. she's a kid like the rest of her siblings, she should be enjoying herself!

with kuba -> he likes how engaged he gets with his long rambles and strange stories. he doesn't notice how different kuba is like around him because he's oblivious like that, but i'm sure if he knew how comfortable kuba was around him he'd cry with joy, but alas, he stays unaware... marek just wishes kuba was less protective of alicja because it ruina their games sometimes.

with amelia -> marek gets along brilliantly with amelia! amelia supplies him with crazy ideas for stories, and marek refines those ideas, writes them down and adds some drawings. amelia is a great creative partner for marek, and a great investigative partner too! marek gets ten times nosier around amelia.

with darek -> like gosia, marek thinks darek is a little bit boring. he's tried to get him to unlock his creative potential, to no avail. he doesn't think darek has any outstanding input om his work, but he is a great person to scheme with thanks to his mischevious nature.

with alicja -> like kuba, alicja is very engaged in the things marek does, and marek adores this! though she doesn't add much to his ideas, she comes up with plenty of her own, which he loves to listen to. marek loves everything she comes up with and is the only person he will share his special stationary with. sometimes he draws stuff just so she has something to colour in.

with jakub -> jakub is amelia's favourite person to cause chaos with! unlike alicja, whom she has to carefully convince to cause mischeif, jakub just goes with whatever dangerous nonsense she wants to do and she LOVES IT. her lack of impulse control and his lack of common sense leads to some seriously insane scenarios. jakub truly is amelia's funnest sibling!

with zosia -> she sees zosia as a lame, good-two-shoes version of herself. that's right, amelia sees zosia, the lenient sister, as a bit of a stick in the mud, mostly for petty reasons. amelia doesn't dislike her sister by any means, zosia is just as caring to her as she is anyone else, but she just likes winding her up. amelia wants to be the first person to make zosia PROPERLY mad.

with gosia -> though she's a huge nerd who actually LIKES reading, amelia finds gosia really interesting. she loves how invested she gets and how excited she sounds when talking about a topic she finds interesting. whenever amelia gets gosia going on about something she feels like she's unlocked the real gosia. unfortunately it's not all good because gosia doesn't really tolerate her nonsense.

with kuba -> amelia thinks kuba worries way too much for his own good. she tries to get him to chill out on her own, creative ways which only ends in him being more stressed. her idea of what's good for people is vastly different to kuba's, which causes just as much trouble as you'd think. her lack of responsibility has caused a few freak outs....

with marek -> marek is amelia's adventure buddy. she loves how he's able to turn everything into a mystery to be solved, or how he makes the unreal feel real! her favourite thing to do with him is to play detective, though their cases have the habit of becoming conspiracies...

with darek -> darek is an annoying know-it-all who doesn't say anything until it's all messed up and then even then all he'll say is 'told you so!'! amelia finds darek and his uncaring attitude frustrating, however she does find him really useful. he's very cunning and actually willing to help her with her schemes, which they always get away with because amelia's good at lying her way out of things and people are so used to darek doing Nothing he never gets in trouble for doing Something.

with alicja -> amelia is an even worse influence on alicja than jakub is. amelia tends to behave the same way around everyone, which helped alicja develop a more mischevious, fun loving side (which amelia is verg proud of, by the way). amelia will sometimes use alicja to get things, but otherwise she treats her really well.

Today had been a long day. Fighting terrorists and criminals was hard work, but Ruby and her team still managed to make it back before curfew. Finally, after spending so long searching for their teammate, they could sleep easy knowing Blake was back in the dorm, safe and sound.

"I'm honestly relieved you know." Blake sighed outside the dorm room. "The ribbon was starting chafe."

"I wish you told us sooner." Weiss chirped. "If we had known, you would be able to sleep easier. Now I feel guilty for being so rude."

The door behind them opened, and Jaune stood there in his footie pajamas, yawning. "Could you guys keep it down?" He asked, yawning. "It's almost midnight."

"S-Sorry, Jaune." Ruby waved in defense. "We had a big day, but we finally found Blake!"

Blake gave a little wave catching Jaune's attention. Her clothes were scuffed with dirt, her hair was fraying out, and she looked absolutely pooped from whatever excursions they shared. But what really caught Jaune's attention was above her head, and wiggled free as they could withouttheir cover.

"Uh, y-yeah, that's great, Ruby!" Jaune said a little louder than he wanted. "I'll, uh, see you guys at breakfast!" Before they could reply, he shut the door.

"Uh, was that weird?" Yang asked.

"He's probably tired." Weiss answered, entering before everyone else. "As am I."

"I call first shower!" Ruby rushed in.

Blake just stood there, unmoving.

"Uh, you good there, Blake?"

"Uh, y-yeah." She blinked. "I, uh, just... I need to go to bed." She entered without breathing a word of it to her team, but she heard it clear as possible. Behind the door, her exceptional hearing caught that one word she never expected Jaune of all people to say.

The next morning, at breakfast, teams RWBY and JNPR ate together as they always had. But today was different, more two big reasons. The first was the sister team's interest to know the details of their harrowing episode outside the school. The second was Blake watching Jaune as he stole glances from his end of the table at her.

"How many guys were there?" Nora asked excitedly.

"Well, we didn't actually show up until most of the fight was over." Ruby answered, before turning to Blake. "How many bad guys did you and Sun beat up?"

"Huh?" Blake replied. "Oh, uh, I think six or seven White Fang."

"You alright, Blake?" Yang asked. "You've been a little spacey lately, Blakey."

"I'm fine. Just... distracted."

"Ren, we should go find a lot of trouble in town!" Nora bounced in her seat.

"No, we shouldn't." Ren replied stoicly.

"I think it's best to let the professionals handle this." Pyrrha stated. "But I'm glad you're all alright after everything that happened." She turned to Jaune. "What about you, Jaune? You've been awfully quiet."

"Uh, w-well, I, uh..." Jaune was pale. Paler than normal. He fidgeted slightly in his seat when a finger prodded his shoulder. He jumped and turned, finding a startled sight.

"Oh, sorry!" Velvet held up her hands defensively. "I didn't mean to spook you. Coco just wanted me to thank you for your help the other day. With Team CRDL."

"Y-Yep! No problem!" Jaune stood up, quickly moving past the rabbit Faunus. "Excuse me, I have to go!"

Before anyone could stop him, he was out of the cafeteria. Everyone looked at each other in confusion, including Velvet. She felt awkward standing there, so she returned to her seat with little more than a wave good-bye.

"That was weird, right?" Yang asked.

"I know." Nora said. "Velvet usually says cheers when she leaves."

"No, Jaune's reaction." Ren pointed out. "I've never seen him do that."

"Me neither." Pyrrha added. "Have any of you noticed anything?"

"No, not really." Ruby answered.

"I try to keep my affairs as far from him as possible." Weiss replied.

"Yeah, I got nothin, either." Yang shrugged.

"Actually," Blake said, all eyes now on her, "there was something about last night. When we were getting back late, we were being noisy, so he asked us to keep our voices down. But when he looked at me, he seemed... uncomfortable, or maybe even scared."

"Scared of you?" Yang asked. "Why?"

"Yeah, why?" Nora asked. "Did he drop your book in the toilet?"

"No, that was you, Nora," Ren answered, "and it was my Green Life cookbook you accidentally dropped."

"Yeah, right," Nora looked off to the distance, "accidentally."

"Well, he..." Blake glanced around before leaning forward to whisper. "He saw my ears."

"He saw... your ears?" Pyrrha asked, not understanding.

"They're cute, little ears." Nora shrugged. "If he's afraid of small things, then why does he like Weiss so much?"

"Hey!" The heiress frowned.

"No, I mean..." Blake pointed to her bow. "My other ears."

Pyrrha and Ren widened their eyes in surprise. Nora gave a confused look until Ren whispered something. She then slapped a hand over her mouth. And then another hand. Blake flushed.

"But what does that have to do with Jaune?" Pyrrha asked. "Jaune isn't like Cardin. He helped out Velvet when she needed it."

"It doesn't have to be malicious to be racist." Blake explained. "People seem to think racism is anger or hatred, but it's sometimes fear, something he was taught from a young age." Blake closed her eyes and thought. "He called me inhuman."

"Wouldn't that mean you're in with humans, like part of the group?" Nora asked.

"No, in means not." Weiss said. "And that is an older slur. I remember my grandfather telling my mother about the hate crimes he stopped when he was younger. "

"Okay, let's slow down a bit here." Yang said holding out her hands. "Before he go calling Jaune a racist, we should figure out his side of things, right?"

"Yang's right." Ruby nodded, standing up. "Jaune is our friend, which means we should hear him out before calling him things like 'racist,' or 'pecipiced'."

Nico couldn't help smiling besides his nervousness. It reminded him of the occasions he got to discuss mythomagic with his classmates in the few months he spent on that boarding school. The times he said he said he thought Dyonisius powers were cool or some other unpopular opinion and then the boys would laugh until they realized Nico wasn’t laughing with them. “Oh! You are being serious. I guess they are a little cool?” And he would stay mostly quiet during the rest of the conversation after those incidents. Maybe that was why he was so nervous with the silly question. His body remembered the awkwardness too well.

“Come on, Nico,” Will, who stood across from him, said. “It is an easy question: who would you choose?”

“Yeah man, you already got enough time to think!” Austin apparently had decided to help his brother into pressuring Nico for an answer. He was behind him fingering something on his sax.

“Finally!” Kayla opened a smirk before continuing. “I was starting to think you were a demigod without honor.”

After being contacted about Ren’s death, Ren’s ghost appears in front of Shaw. Ren’s ghost can speak, but his memory is fragmented and he doesn’t remember how he died. Shaw, annoyed by Ren, tries to get rid of him, but even Ren doesn’t know why he can’t leave Shaw’s side. Shaw has questions about Ren’s death and wonders if there’s a reason Ren can’t pass away peacefully. To find out why, he goes to South Hill Prison, where only heinous criminals are imprisoned.

Shaw: How much do you remember?

Ren: Uh, a little bit? Oh, I remember that guy. His name’s Douglas. We were close.

Shaw: Douglas.

Douglas: Hm? You new here?

Shaw: You know ‘Ren’?

Douglas: Ren?

Shaw: He was my little brother.

Douglas: You’re Ren’s older brother? Now that you mention it, he did say he had a brother.

Shaw: I’m Shaw. Nice to meet ya.

Douglas: Yeah, likewise. I’m sorry about what happened to Ren. It was so sudden, I was surprised, too.

Shaw: Actually, I’m investigating his death right now. Will you cooperate with me?

Shaw: No, it’s just been bothering me that he died in such a strange way.

Upon entering prison, Shaw first talks to a man named Douglas who Ren was on good terms with. The man has a wide network and offers to help Shaw out after learning of his relation to Ren. Two other men, Renato and his right-hand man David, exert control over the group of prisoners. Douglas tells Shaw that asking for their help is the fastest way to get info. Unfortunately, Shaw quickly earns their ire after protesting their harassment of Miguel. Douglas, although shocked, ends up laughing due to the stubborn streak shared between brothers.

tragic backstory (tm) au) cin cin needs help learning the rapier, or the small sword doesn't really matter it's just her class is doing a story about a masked hero and she wants to get the lead really bad. jaune's sorry to say that he doesn't know much beyond longsword from his own time as a practice partner, but maybe letting her train with weiss would help? i mean obviously real combat isn't a good match for stage but anything is better than nothing right?

meanwhile ren's thinking he might have to rethink the assassin theory, he doesn't think jaune's sister has it in her to even say a bad thing about jaune let alone kill him... so why is he training her in such things? and what sort of training lets her be that athletic and graceful! (ballerinas are jacked man! never even try to mess with one)

and weiss is struggling to not have a mental breakdown, the girl is a once in a generation genius when it comes to the small sword and rapier but everytime she thinks she's connecting with her newest student she huffs and clams up, she's not even hiding anything it's just that she seems to remember that she's supposed to be mad at them for some reason and then goes back to pouting! she can't imagine anyone being so stubborn even when they're wrong! (basically cin-cin is volume 1 weiss when she's mad and these people were mean to her big brother for a long time from what she heard!)

Cinnamon Arc loves many thing. First, she loves her family, who was always there for her through everything. Second, she loves her friends, whom she shared many wonderful memories with. Third and finally, and possibly more than anything else, she loves the theater.

She loved dressing up, performing, and becoming something more than herself! She begged her parents to take her to every play they could. She would reference the greats wherever she could, and often disrupted class for the sake of the arts.

Ooohhhh. Well, whenever I decapitate someone in Valhalla, I don’t stick around the scene of the crime for other guards to find me so I never realized that pigs appear to eat it. Considering AC Valhalla is rated Cero Z, I won’t be surprised if they still edited some of the gorier stuff though. CERO Z isn’t exactly the same as ESRB M even though ESRB M says 17+ and CERO Z says 18 and above, CERO Z still requests more revisions than ESRB M.

A great example of the difference is how in Resident Evil 2 Remake, there’s a scene that has a certain character be chopped in half in ESRB M version but they kept the entire body in CERO Z. So yeah… Absolutely not surprised if JP AC Valhalla has helmet eating pigs XD

Honestly, I think Ubisoft saw how a lot of people flocked over Haytham during the first release of AC3 when Ratonhnhaké:ton was underappreciated and that’s the reason why they pushed for more ‘character depth’ to Haytham. (I’m sure his accent helped too). I read some say that one of the main reasons why Ratonhnhaké:ton wasn’t well received was because he was so different from Ezio and a lot of Ezio fans hated that but I never really believed them because my college best friend was a huge Ezio fan and played the AC games when they came out and when we were talking about my own experience, she was like “I don’t remember a lot but I hated his (Ratonhnhaké:ton’s) dad. He was such an asshole to him.” so, really, Ubisoft is very… white-centric. I will admit that they did well showing that both sides were selfish in many ways and Ratonhnhaké:ton really didn’t have a good side to join. Then Syndicate happened and they did Karl Marx dirty and Ubisoft definitely decided which side they are. (And I think the writers know it since they do show Abstergo partnering with AC world’s Ubisoft for the games)

Haytham is just… he’s a good character and can be considered one of the best AC characters but there’s really a dissonance on what kind of ‘good character’ he is meant to be.

I feel you. I wanted to learn more about Bloodborne, I really really do, I love gothic horror and god Yharnam is sooo pretty to me but I. Can’t. Even. Get. To. The. First. Boss. (I am actually dreading the upcoming Armored Core because I love that series but if it’s FromSoftware being FromSoftware, I probably won’t get far TTATT)

I blame Dynasty Warriors, tbh. (not gonna lie, I’m one of those who thought Xiahou Dun eating his own eyeball was pretty badass even if my Wei preference is Cao Ren) Although John Woo’s Red Cliff is probably the main Romance of the Three Kingdom adaptation that got mainstream attention. Probably. Oh definitely, the west is definitely trying to suck on that golden peach. And it’s not just the movies focused on China but a lot of movies right now are being edited to tone down or flatout remove anything that would ban it there. Anything owned by the big mouse is like that and even sports (I think???).

Also… Ubisoft is partly owned by Tencent right now so its focus on the China market was bound to happen:

I’ll keep that in mind and I don’t mind reading subtitles XD. We’ll just see what’s available in my region hahahaha. Oh yeah, that sounds about right. Some things do get lost in localization and that’s why I like checking the original and dubbed versions. It’s interesting to see the difference.

Irt Shao Jun's Name

Why is it even spelled "Jun"? Even in her first appearance in Assassin's Creed: Embers, Ezio and Sofia pronounce it "Shao Yun."

It's...a mixed bag in Chinese fandom, as far as I've seen. There are no official characters for her name, and without them, we don't know what her name means or even how to correctly pronounce it because there are no tones. Fans usually pick a number of characters to spell out either Shao Jun or Shao Yun, which means her name is usually pronounced differently, with different meanings.

Tbfh, I always favored 绍君 for her name, AKA Shao Jun with "Shao" being a surname to mean "carry on" and "Jun" being a word to describe a gentleman/someone of noble birth and bearing. It bears a lot of power.

In the official AC novels by Yan Leisheng, he uses the 少芸，or Little Yun, which has me taken aback because I've always read Shao Yun as her full name, meaning "Shao" would be a family name, not a prefix. I guess both would work, given that she's a palace concubine. The "yun" he uses means "rue," the flower, which is fitting for a concubine, but doesn't bear the same weight and power as the "jun" I chose for her.

Either way, Ubisoft can't commit to her name. They spell it one way, then pronounce it another. Even the novelization is apparently officially non-canon, meaning once again, the VIBE of this girl is completely up to fanon.

-So Hardison gets rich playing the stock market as a teen in Nana’s basement. Mostly because the professor at the college econ classes he’s taking for extra credit said he couldn’t.

-By the time he’s graduating highschool at 18 he is filthy rich. (WhatLikeItsHard.gif) He has paid off Nana’s medical bills and her house and went over to the college to gloat a little and decided he doesn’t actually need to go to college when he’s already, you know, doing what he does.

-But he doesn’t wanna keep taking up Nana’s basement when he has heard her having to turn down emergency placements because there’s not enough room. 

-So he moves out. Into a giant mansion, because why not. He has everything. A pool. A fancy kitchen. A shower with like 16 sprays that massage your back perfectly. A hallway with a giant fancy staircase. A whole room dedicated to his computer setup, with all the latest gadgets. A special wine fridge he stocked full of orange soda. A damn fireplace in his bathroom.

-A lot of empty rooms. And quiet. Like, creepy-quiet. Right-before-the-killer-grabs-you-in-the-hallway quiet. He nearly jumps out of his skin when he forgets there is a mirror at the end of one of the hallways. His shriek echoes through the empty house.

-He considers getting a cat for one second but remembers he’s allergic. And it would probably just startle him even more. He gets a few roombas, but even with the giant googly eyes they don’t fill the space as much as he’d hoped. So instead he places an ad online for roommates. 

-He doesn’t get nearly enough responses as he suspects. Maybe ‘come live in my mansion rent free’ gives off some major serial killer vibes. He amends his ad to a reasonable but still low enough rent that people who really need a place can apply. 

-He runs background checks on everyone who applies. He may or may not disqualify some people for petty reasons. Sorry not sorry, this is his mansion and he’s not about to share his kitchen with someone who thinks Kylo Ren is cooler than Poe Dameron, okay?

-He has some interviews, but nobody seems to click. A lot of people seem to want to make his house some kind of party-mansion. And not the fun kind of movie-marathon, D&D session, LAN Party kind of parties. One girl keeps asking him when the ‘real owner’ of the house is going to be back. 

-He’s thinking about giving up and moving back home and finding a small apartment near Nana’s house when a girl shows up in his living room.

-She does not have an interview scheduled. Hardison knows this for two reasons: one, he thinks he’d remember background checking someone as pretty as her. Two: it’s three in the morning.

-“So I heard you’re looking for roommates,” she says. A roomba nudges against her foot, and she reaches down to pat it before it turns away. “I like your pet robots.”

-It’s probably the fact that he’s been up for like 48 hours by now, but he’s like: thanks, want a tour of the house?

-Parker moves in that weekend. He helps her move in, and does not ask why she has an entire box of the exact same creepy doll whose head turns around to show an even more creepy face. He just kindly requests she keep those in her rooms, not the shared ones.

-Parker is a great roommate. Her schedule is all over the place as well, but she’s tidy, she’s funny, and she’ll hang out and watch Doctor Who with him. She also names all his roombas. He pretends not to see her dropping some fortune cookie crumbs on purpose to feed Carl the kitchen roomba when he goes by.

-Their next roommate is Eliot. He’s a veteran who’s learning how to cook at some kind of culinary school. He gets a little flustered when Hardison shows him his rooms, plural, saying he must have read the ad wrong, and is almost out the door before Hardison can convince him that yes, the price in the ad is correct, no this is not a cult, he just bought a house that was much too big and he has Regrets okay, help a brother out.

-So Eliot moves in as well. He gets a little judgy when he finds out 95% of the kitchen cupboards are empty, and the rest is filled with cereal and junkfood. He brings in more boxes of kitchenware than clothes, and Parker is delighted at poking each and every thing he unpacks.

-Eliot’s schedule is kind of the opposite of Hardison’s. He is some kind of weird morning person. They mostly run into each other when Hardison is going to bed and Eliot comes back from his morning run. He’s mostly at school or working kitchen shifts to gain more experience during the times Hardison is awake, so they mostly communicate via text.

-Parker’s the one that figures out Eliot is all bark and no bite. Or actually, all growl and no bite. Turns out, he just really hates the little buttons on his smartphone, so his texts are very short and curt. Hardison starts leaving notes on the kitchen fridge instead and that works much better. Note-Eliot is way nicer than text-Eliot.

-The great thing about Eliot is that his homework is basically… fuck around in the kitchen and make delicious things. Which he then ‘makes’ them taste. So yeah maybe Hardison kind of… switches his schedule so he’s around more and awake for Eliot Cooking Time. 

-So basically he gets roommates, and free food and it’s all great. Except for that time he accidentally ate Eliot’s sandwich. Well, he didn’t leave a note saying NOT to! It ends up with him being dragged out of bed and interrogated (Parker shining a flashlight at him and being generally Chaotic Unhelpful) until he confesses.

-The only reason Eliot doesn’t kill him probably is because he babbles about how delicious it was. Or because he’s tired of Parker shouting unrelated cop-phrases at Hardison over his shoulder.

-They come up with a system where Eliot leaves very threatening notes on the stuff he does not want them to eat. It mostly works. Besides, Parker has totally found Eliot’s weak spots (puppy eyes) and can basically make him cook them whatever.

-It’s pretty great until it starts to heat up. And both Parker and Eliot start making use of the big outdoor pool. Which is great, that’s what it’s there for. But they then wander around looking sexy and damp and near naked and Hardison is starting to get Very Inappropriate Thoughts, okay?

-Okay so maybe he also had very inappropriate thoughts before, even when Eliot was wearing like 13 layers of clothing and Parker was wearing cozy sweaters and it’s still not fair for them to wander around looking so hot.

-But he’s not about to ruin a good thing with his crushes. Besides, he’s technically their landlord, that would be weird and creepy.

-So he just… quietly pines a little. It’s cool. He still gets to hang out in the kitchen with Parker and Eliot, and force them to watch movies they have never seen that they really should (neither of them talk to him for a week because of the whole Lilo and Stitch thing).

-And maybe he notices them huddled together whispering sometimes. That’s cool. That’s fine. They can date each other if they want. (Don’t think about Eliot and Parker together, don’t, it’s too hot and you won’t be able to look them in the eye ever again, dammit Hardison).

-Until one day he wanders down into the shared living space to find the dining room table to be all decked out, a table cloth and candles and roses and everything. And Parker and Eliot look up all expectantly as he starts backpedaling that he didn’t mean to interrupt their date before Eliot growls and says ‘sit down, Hardison’. 

-The table has three place settings.

-Oh.

-It’s one hundred percent worth his foster siblings quoting a meme at him all weekend when he brings the two of them home to meet his Nana.
