ahhh i absolutely love this ask! this is such a good scenario! i thought it over for a couple days and here's what im thinking... for the sake of this post we'll say the Ubuyashiki quintuplets are the ones conducting the experiment, and the room they're in is fairly empty

*Muichiro

they would put him in a room and the poor thing would climb all over the door and babble and whine the second it's shut

he doesn't even last a minute. he cries so much that one of the quintuplets has to grab him

2. *Gyomei

he's fine at first. he just sits down to meditate and isn't all that worried about the experiment

until he starts thinking about the other children

and he worries sick about not being with them... what if something happens and he isn't there to protect them? but he's not supposed to be freaking out... he was told he needed to relax and let the others watch them! but he cant help himself

he senses a Disturbance in the force (a crying baby Muichiro) and leaves five minutes into the experiment

3. *Mitsuri

she starts overthinking and getting anxious and upset

she would much rather be with the other kids, and being alone, she can't help but feel homesick. she starts missing her parents a lot

so she sits in the room for maybe 15 minutes before peeking her head out and asking if she could do something else

she and Kanata play while they wait for the other Hashira

4. *Shinobu

she is totally fine with the experiment but she gets bored almost immediately

Shinobu tries to meditate, but that bores her even more

she walks out of the room after half an hour and joins Mitsuri and Kanata (in which more quintuplets join in on what they're doing, while Muichiro clings to Gyomei like a lifeline)

5. *Giyuu

he doesn't really wanna participate in the experiment. he misses his friends. after arguing against it for a bit (he's a youngest child, so he isn't used to not getting what he wants /affectionate) he settles down in the room and just sits there sulking for a bit

Giyuu starts imagining what he'll do when he gets out of the room, and he has a ton of ideas of games to play with his new friends

he tries to take a nap but he's so excited, he forgets all about the experiment and skips out of the room calling for Sanemi and Obanai

6. *Tengen

like Shinobu, he just gets really bored

he lasts for a couple hours. he occupies himself by doing his hair, painting his nails, etc

with how heightened his hearing is, he soon picks up on the sound of the other children laughing and playing

he starts feeling homesick too, missing suma, makio, and hinatsuru. after a lot of contemplating, he gives up on trying to defeat sanemi, and leaves the room

7. *Sanemi

he stays for a few hours but bold to assume he's having a good time

he paces around the room, he bounces off the walls, he tries to turn everything into parkour, he turns something into a "sword" and tries target practice, etc

he even dusts a bit, and cleans up the room a few times to keep his mind occupied

what makes him leave the room?

he accidentally stubbed his toe, and it was his last straw. he stomps out of the room, grumpy and upset

Tengen and Giyuu help him out a bit, and then he plays the new game Giyuu came up with

8. *Kyojuro

he grew up very well disciplined, so he stays put for as long as he needs to be. he takes the experiment very seriously and is very respectful

he feels pretty lonely within the first ten minutes. he tries to occupy the space by talking aloud to himself, but with no one to respond, he gets pretty sad

he wonders how the other kids are doing. he also wonders how Senjuro is doing, and notes to give him a big hug once Senjuro visited the following day

he tries to play tic tac toe with himself. he puts on little voice impressions and pretend he's different Hashira to keep himself entertained and prevent himself from feeling lonely

kyojuro ends up taking a long nap. after sleeping for a few hours, he forgets why he was alone in a room to begin with, and just walks out to play with the other kids

9. *Obanai

given he was raised in a cage, this is nothing

Obanai just lays on the floor and keeps his eyes on the door and windows

he stays in there for so long, the other kids have to go in and get him (Kyojuro in particular insists on grabbing him, since he knows Obanai doesn't do well in giant empty spaces)

they find him sitting in the corner and hugging Kaburamaru. his closest friends cheer for him and celebrate him being the victor

however, as soon as he's out of the room, he starts crying. it turns out he was really scared, and he hated every part of the experiment. he and Kyojuro cling to each other the rest of the evening

the Ubuyashiki kids apologize hysterically for the experiment after Amane lectures them a bit, and all of the kids sleep in a giant cuddle pile that night

the difference between my friend and i watching severance is that she wanted me to catch up so we could talk theories with the show and the Next Big Reveal. meanwhile i wanted to stop the show at one point bc how fucked up the whole thing is and worshipping your ceo as god and doing literally whatever to please him and the company and not caring about what happens in your wake and now there’s child labor. oh also we haven’t even touched the bodily autonomy part of it which is 16 layers deep. like. fuck dude. and especially in today’s world we’re putting out art like this? showing how companies view workers and what they’ll go to just to make their their overlords are happy???

Joe had been tossing and turning for about an hour already, and he couldn’t seem to sleep at all. He took a deep breath and turned his body so that he was laying on his back and gazed up at the ceiling. The light from the lamp post outside slightly reflected through the crack of his window curtains. The night was quiet, and his mind kept pondering about the thought of you. 

“You’re so beautiful, you know that?” Joe whispered through your bare skin as he left repeated kisses on your bare back. 

You giggled softly, looking over your shoulder. You were laying on your stomach, and Joe had moved himself closer to you. His fingers gently tugging on the duvet to expose your bare back, his lips finding your soft skin. He planted soft kisses all over your back, his long lashes tickled your skin as his fingers stroked your back softly. 

“I can’t get enough of you, I swear.” Joe murmured. 

Chuckling softly, you turned your body to face him. Joe hovered over you as you pulled the duvet closer to your chest. He grinned happily as he leaned down and kissed you softly. His hands slowly slid the duvet away from your naked body and his hands roamed your sides. A small moan escaped your lips as he parted from the kiss and trailed his lips down and traced the line of your jaw. Then, his lips found your neck as he sucked on the skin lightly, making you moan again in his ear.

So now, he was laying in his bed alone and couldn’t sleep at night because all he could think about was you. All he could think about was your soft skin under his touch. The sounds you would make in his ear, and your soft lips on his skin and his lips. 

God, he was so head over heels. 

He didn’t even realize it until now. You were running in his mind 24/7 and when he tried to push the thought of you away, he only missed you even more. Grabbing his phone from the bedside table, he saw that it was 12:30 am already. Pursing his lips, he opened up his messages and stared at the screen for a moment. 

Still awake?

He sent the message and waited. After a few minutes, he saw the three bubbles popping up on the screen. A smile immediately tugged on his lips. 

You were working late because you had some reports that still needed to finish. Your mind has been somewhere else, and you have been trying so hard not to stress too much about your work. Though, here you were up late and finishing up reports for work. When your phone vibrated next to you on your desk, and you saw Joe’s name appear on your screen, you immediately grinned happily. You needed a little distraction after a long day.

Still working. Why are you still awake?

The text message that you sent to Joe sent a warm feeling in his stomach as he smiled at your text. 

Can’t sleep. I can’t stop thinking about you. 

Biting your lower lip, you grinned at his message. You couldn’t help but think how the last two months that you have been seeing Joe, you have been so happy. You didn’t even care about the fact that your friends kept telling you to be careful because he was an actor. That he might just immediately change his mind and find someone else. Though, that wasn’t what it was at all. 

From the way he kept calling you every night, you didn’t have the time to feel insecure at all. He kept telling you that he was always thinking about you, and he couldn’t even sleep because he only wanted to be next to you. 

He was too sweet. 

You couldn’t relate to the desperation that your friends would act when it came to their boyfriends.

You bit your nails, grinning cheekily as you waited for him to answer. Joe, who immediately sat up on his bed, reached over to turn his lamp on. He stared at your text and then shifted his eyes towards his clock on his bedside table.

He stared at the text for a moment before deleting it. What the fuck was wrong with him? Why was he acting like a 16 year old boy? At his big age too. He couldn’t help but chuckle at himself for acting so stupid over you. Rubbing his forehead softly, he stared at his screen and didn’t know what to reply to your text. He never acted like this before, not even with his exes. He didn’t know what it was that he couldn’t seem to stop thinking about you. He couldn’t sleep because of you. He kept thinking about how beautiful you were. He kept thinking how smart you were and such a hard worker. He couldn’t really describe it, but he was just so deep in his feelings for you since you two had started seeing each other. He was feeling so drunk of you like he had drunk ten espresso shots every night before bed. 

It’s okay. It’s late. Maybe I’ll see you tomorrow?

He typed the text message and sent it to you. He was right though. It was literally past midnight, and he was bothering you because he couldn’t sleep. 

What an idiot. 

Exhaling a sharp breath, he set his phone down on his bedside table and gazed up at the ceiling again. After a few minutes of silence and no reply, he figured you had fallen asleep. His mind wandered back again at the thought of you. 

“Don’t be cheeky.” Joe laughed, pressing his face on your neck.

You had told him a dirty joke, and he couldn’t stop laughing. The way he was literally hooked with your humor all the time. The one little joke made him all flushed and flustered that he was hiding his face from you.

“That’s not fair. Don’t hide your cute face from me.” You grinned, lifting his head and cupping his face between your hands.

Joe’s chocolate button eyes sparkled as he gazed down at you with a loving smile. You loved seeing him like this, and you certainly love the fact that you could make him act like this. 

Sighing, Joe closed his eyes and pushed the memory away. 

He needed to sleep. 

This was getting ridiculous. 

Pulling the duvet closer to him, Joe settled himself comfortably in his bed and closed his eyes. He forced himself to really sleep and as soon as he started drifting off, he felt the mattress of the empty side of his bed dip. For a moment, he thought he was just dreaming. Then, familiar arms wrapped around his torso, and he knew exactly who it was even if his eyes were closed. 

He was thanking his little stars that he gave you that spare key for his flat.

“It’s late.” He murmured, holding in his smile as he pulled you closer to his body. 

You let out a soft approving hum, planting a soft kiss on his cheek. Even in the dark, you could see his beautiful facial features as you softly stroked his cheek with your fingers. 

“You can’t sleep lately.” You whispered. “I’m worried about that.”

“It’s your fault, you know.” Joe teased.

You laughed softly, moving yourself on top of him, straddling his hips. 

“Yea?” You trailed kisses on the line of his jaw and then down his neck. 

Joe had to bite his lower lip to stop himself from moaning. He swore if he was dreaming right now, he would hate his brain in the morning for giving this much of a vivid dream about you. He was already folding for you, and his brain was now betraying him even more? 

This was so foul of his dreams to do to him. 

“Yes.” Joe gasped the word as you ran your hands down his bare chest. “I think I’ve gone mad.”

You smiled through his skin as his fingers curled around the strands of your hair as you kissed his bare chest. You loved that you could wrap him up around your finger, and he would just fold under every kiss you left on his skin. You never had anyone act like this over you, and you were enjoying every minute of it.

“Now, you could sleep.” You joked, making Joe scoff at your little comment. 

“No.” He whispered, pressing his face on your neck and nibbled on the skin lightly. “We’re gonna be up all night.”

You grinned widely, flipping the both of you over so you were on top of him again. 

“Hmm… Don’t challenge me.” You smiled deviously under the dark. 

“You’re the one who’s been keeping me up all night, so don’t challenge me.” Joe retorted back. 

You laughed softly, kissing him hungrily again and grabbing the duvet from behind you. Covering the both of you with the sheet, Joe tangled his fingers through your hair as you both blissfully enjoyed each other’s flushed bodies against each other. 

Time had frozen, and Joe didn’t care if he needed to be up early tomorrow morning. You were literally the espresso shot that could keep him up all day and night. 

Somehow, that was enough for him.

Dropping Byler Evidence Every Day Until Season 5

Welcome back to this series after a one-day break because of my exam, and again I'm gonna talk about the end of season 3 aka one of the most damning pieces of evidence that it's basically a fucking paradigm of the byler fandom atp <3

So here we have it, the scene where Mike probably (definitely) realises something is wrong about his relationship with El. Up until this point in the season, we have seen that Mike is desperate to grow up, and he does this by trying to emulate his parents' by getting into a relationship with a women, thinking about it logically rather than emotionally, right?

I think that as an audience, when watching S3, we were kind of waiting for Mike to have his proper character development moment, because obviously, he was kind of a jerk all season with his attitude towards Will and El. I'm still surprised that the GA believed his character was put in a blender and shat out, because this season and this SCENE literally gives you that last minute realisation and character development.

But unfortunately, and here's the kicker: it really is just too late. El and Will are gone, so he can't really do anything about his realisation that things are wrong.

Just wanted to put some things in perspective first, so here we go!

1. The Bear

So first of all, we start the scene with El trying to reach for the teddy bear which, BY THE WAY, is in Will's closet in his room. It is also definitely his bear that can be seen in his room in season one.

Therefore, this bear is a representation of Will. He literally gets taken out of the closet by Mike here as well. It is important to know that this bear represents him throughout this scene, because we can then keep in mind that El is holding him the whole time all this subsequent stuff plays out. The bear is between Mike and El, basically a litttleee foreshadowing moment to the imagery in S4 where Will is seen between Mike and El multiple times.

(this is where i realise how long this post is going to be bc there's so much to unpack here help)

2. Growing Up Issues No. 1000000

AnyWAYS so Mike then says something that perpetuates the whole S3 narrative and arc they set up for him trying to reject 'childish' things and associating childish things with Will.

"I was thinking you could come up here for Christmas. And Will too! Then we'd all have cool new presents to play with. ...Sorry that made me sound like a 7 year old."

Right after he mentions Will and the fact that he's excited to see him and everyone, he immediately feels childish. And the fact that he's been feeling like he needs to grow out of his feelings towards Will this season means he's thinking about those feelings here, however unconsciously. But he's only trying to grow up in a way he thinks he has to, there's no indication to the audience that this growing up is a good thing. (it always ends in Mike feeling self-conscious or an argument with Will)

3. Saying I love you

El then tries to remind Mike about the time that he 'talked about [his] feelings' and his 'HEART' (oh my goawsh), and he instantly looks put on the spot and definitely remembers what he said to her, obviously, but doesn't want to repeat it. He says stuff like:

"I don't think I follow." - he doesn't really remember something like this without a blatant reminder because he doesn't want to.

"Oh yeah. That. Man, that was so long ago." - when he says that it's 'so long ago', it feels like he's trying to play down what he's saying, backpedaling so that he can come up with an excuse to why he doesn't actually want to say that anymore. His excuse here is that it was a long time ago, EVEN THOUGH IT WASNT REALLY HAHA.. This his way of saying he doesn't really feel like that without actually saying it, so not to hurt her feelings.

"No, it was like heat of the moment stuff, and we were arguing and..." - again, these are just more excuses so that he can explain himself. Hmm, maybe it's that they are technically broken up here still, so he might just feel self-conscious in case she doesn't love him back. But here's the thing - they would have made him look much happier when she says 'I love you too' if this was the case, right? And they would have made him able to say I love you in S4 if he was just self-conscious she didn't love him back right?

"I don't really remember... What did I say exactly?" - Oh he definitely remembers. So this has to be yet another case of Mike trying to get El to say I love you for him, so that he doesn't have to say it. He doesn't really want to lie to her like that, so saying the words himself would feel wrong. It would be much easier just to agree with her if she says it. I talk much more about how he has already done this in the supermarket in this post. Go have a little read <3

Now, when El starts to walk up to him and puts her hand on his face, he looks utterly weirded out. It's a very strange thing to be looking like when your girlfriend might love you back, which is what she thinks Mike wants. The kicker is that El is unfortunately being presented as naive in thinking that she's making him happy by saying 'I love you too'.

This is Mike's face right after his gf says I love you btw yeah really cute and romantic.

This same sentiment of irony can be seen later when we get a shot of her smiling when she walks away from him, before cutting to a shot of the opposite of what she expected: which is Mike looking confused. Again, Duffers love subversion.

I think a lot of people think that Mike looks confused in this little part here because he also acted confused when El asked him about his feelings. So people think that, what, he just found out that El knew he loved her? No. He wasn't actually confused about what he had said ages ago, he was pretending to be confused. He clearly already knew that she had heard him, anyone can surely see that he's just trying to get her to say it for him, right? Why would he be confused about something he already knows (that El knows he said I love her)? Why would he look so shocked instead of happy that she said it back?

4. The kiss + Closet Imagery

This is literally the most blatant ass queer coding that I've ever seen. If this was any other show, it would definitely be called queer coding because I mean it is literally a girl initiating a kiss that the guy does not respond to at all, WHILST BEING IN FRONT OF A FUCKING CLOSETTTT

I barely need to analyse anything here, as you can see, El just kisses him and he doesn't do anything with his hands, he has his eyes open, and it frankly is a bad kiss, sorry but-

There isn't much stake in the argument that he's just confused and shocked as well. IN STRANGER THINGS there have been surprise kisses before (see Jancy season 2) that the directors easily made have good chemistry because they are good directors... they don't do this stuff by accident.

How else do I know they are great directors? Because they put Mike directly in front of a closet while El isn't. The Duffers fucking love background symbolism, they love symmetry. They even had some of this symmetry earlier in the scene with Jancy!:

(the window symbolises their love being open with one another or the fact they can be free with each other etc)

Not only does this closet get positioned right behind Mike in the shot, there is also a LIGHT on that is positioned right where his head is. This portrays that he's thinking about something new, like he's just been given a new perspective on something. (Also why would there be a light in the closet unless it's to draw ur attention to it??)

So why would a kiss from El, that he's had numerous times, conjure up a new idea? Why would it be that he loves her, when he allegedly already knows that because he said it ages ago? It's not an idea about El, it's him discovering the truth.

I talk more about how light symbolises truth in one of my very early analysis posts on this app here, but basically, light often symbolises the truth in film, and the fact that a light is IN THE CLOSET AND POSITIONED WHERE HIS HEAD IS just shows that he's thinking of the truth, which is not what is right in front of him.

AND THE BEAR THAT SYMBOLISES WILL IS STILL IN BETWEEN THEM. OH MY GOD,,,, this scene is literally just- the byler endgame scene I fear holy moly

So as we all know, afterwards, Mike stands there as if he's just realised something.

Based on what I've already said, that Mike can't just be realising that El figured out that he said "I love her", that Mike can't just be processing that she loved him (because wouldn't he be happy and the writers could have written a cute moment), and the fact he has lightbulb moment, this is him realising that something is wrong with his relationship. He realises that he doesn't want this.

The closet is fucking clear as day here, like it just all comes together in this perfect way I love it.

Keep this in mind for when I talk about the Hopper monologue at the end, because he just realises here he doesn't want this relationship, and during the monologue part he regrets everything he's done over the course of season 3.

This whole season he's kind of confused and trying to figure out what is wrong with him and why he feels so hurt by everything, but here is when he realises why, which is why it is a good closer of his arc. It is also supposed to be ironic that it's completely last minute. Meaning it is too late to do anything about it, leaving a good space for S4 to come along.

So yesterday, my mom (40F) left me (15F) at home with my siblings. Everything was going fine until I was called to school to help with the report books (my house is one of the nearest) I told my brother (12 M)to take care of our younger siblings (7 F and 2 F), while I went to school. I also told my mom that I was at school, helping my teacher.

I came back around 1:30 pm. My brother was busy playing games with his friends and him & my sisters haven’t eaten lunch yet. So I told my brother to stop playing with his friends for a bit and eat. After I ate, I tried feeding the youngest, but she didn’t want to eat. I, not wanting to deal with her crying (i get angry easily and I don’t like scolding my siblings), didn’t force her, but waited for her to want to eat. I accidentally fell asleep while waiting (I have horrible sleep schedule, so I was tired) and woke up like 3hrs later. I tried feeding my sister, but she still didn’t want to. So I forced her. Then my dad came home and saw that 1)My mom wasn’t home, 2)my sister barely eat anything. He was angry but he didn’t told me.

Anyway, my dad had to go to the hospital (he has a knee injury) and my mom was going to meet him at the hospital. He wasn’t going to bring my youngest sister, but she insisted on coming.

This is where I might be an asshole. As my dad was bringing my sister, I mentioned that she also cried this morning, like, 5 minutes after my mom left. She had previously put my sister to sleep so she doesn’t need to come with her. But she woke up around 5minutes after my mom left, crying because she wanted to come with my mom. I thought he was going to treat it like a grain of salt and forget about it. I was wrong.

My dad basically blew up on my mom bc she “wasn’t taking care of the kids”. My mom got angry at me because I didn’t feed my sister and bc I told my dad about my sister crying, and blamed me for getting yelled at by my dad. She scolded me saying “can’t I have a break for once?!” And “ I wasn’t even gone for a whole day. Just 8.5 hours!”. The thing is, even her friend brought her son (he’s around,like, 4 or smth). That was one of the reason my dad was angry at her. Now my mom isn’t talking to me, and don’t know what to do.
