The End of the World, Again: part 1
The group of Chosen Duelists and their entourage make their way back through the halls of the temple, out the way they had come.
For a brief moment, the two Yugis confer inside their heart. But they quickly nod in agreement to investigate, and Yugi sprints up to the platform.
He slows his pace, the scale and intricacies of the snakes so much more impressive up close. But something else distracts his observation. In each snake's mouth is each of the rarest Duel Monsters cards to exist, the legendary God Cards.
Yugi's eyes light up, and he feels his Other Self gasp. Quickly, he scoops up the cards, then clutches them tight as he hops down and sprints once again to catch up to the group.
As he does, he finds Joey and Tristan tending to an unconscious Raphael. He feels a bittersweet sigh from his Other Self at the sight. "How did he get here...?"
With Joey and Tristan carrying the much larger man between them, they all finally make their way to the temple's entrance, flooded now with bright, teal light. They all race outside, temporarily blinded by the sudden intensity. As her vision clears, Téa gasps.
Floating far overhead is a mass of land, an island raised into the sky.
"is that--!! atlantis?!" Yugi squeaks. "That has to be where that serpent took Dartz!"
"can our helicopters even make it up there?!" Mokuba wonders in awe, sticking close to his brother's side. "in these winds???"
Yugi glances back over his shoulder at the temple. "that rift was left after the monster ate dartz. i wonder if we could follow it back that way...?"
Seto
Seto gazes up at the island before them, then over to the helicopters, then back to Yugi. "...At the very least, we should put those who have no business trying to kill a God onto the helicopters. This place is collapsing."
He squeezes Mokuba's hand- and is summarily interrupted by the pilot himself.
"Mr. Kaiba! A huge hurricane is headed toward the East coast of the United States! If I may, I suggest you all should leave here as soon as possible!"
Seto huffs. Everyone heard that, at least, from the mic in his lapel. He turns on his heel, back toward the temple, and lets go of Mokuba; unfortunately, without a vested interest in Duel Monsters and no deck at the moment, Mokuba has no business trying to follow him, here.
"You all stay here. I'll handle Dartz, myself."
Mokuba
At first, Mokuba nods along to his brother's suggestion. It isn't until Seto lets go of his hand that he realizes, he's part of the helicopter group. He blinks a few times, then turns as if to follow, only to be stopped by Téa's hand on his shoulder once again.
"I'm coming too--" he starts to say.
"Your brother will be okay. He'll fight better knowing you're safe," she assures him.
Still, he can't help but feel particularly small and useless as he watches him go.
Joey
Joey doesn't need to say a word. He just looks at Tristan, and his friend sighs and nods, taking the full weight of Raphael onto himself. Then he turns to Mokuba.
"Don't you worry, squirt!" he teases. It's funny to him, now, to always call him squirt no matter how tall he gets. "We'll keep an eye on 'em. Right Yug? Us and Critias, Hermos, and Timaeus!"
Mokuba
Mokuba rolls his eyes a little less playfully at Joey's comment, however. "I'm gonna be taller than you pretty soon," he warns. Seeing Tristan struggle under the full weight of the larger man, he does at least see one opportunity to be somewhat useful. He's not as strong as Joey, but he slings one of Raphael's arms over his own shoulder to help get him onto the chopper.
But he does glance back at Yugi and Joey as they go. "...please come back," he mumbles
Yugi
Yugi rolls his eyes at Kaiba's comment, but he has a playful little smile as he turns to follow him back into the temple. He keeps his pace slow, though, hanging back a bit until Joey joins them.
"that's right!!" he pipes up in agreement with his best friend. "as long as we stick together, we can't lose." He raises his voice in emphasis on those two words, letting his voice carry down the echoing halls toward Kaiba up ahead.
Seto
Another frustrated *Huff* is all the reply Yugi or Joey get out of Seto as they jog to catch up with his long strides. He doesn't look back to see if they're following (their footsteps are telling enough) and he doesn't particularly care if they *are.* Though, Joey does make a good point...
"I don't need help from a low-class fool; the only reason you'll be at all useful is that legendary dragon card. If not for that, I would insist on handling this alone." *Backed up with a gun, if necessary,* is only thought of, not spoken.
The Chosen Duelists make their way back through the now-empty temple, rumbling and crumbling around them. The souls have all vanished from the stone cards they were being stored in, leaving the halls eerily silent in feeling; Seto isn't sure if he preferred it when it was sorrowful.
But with Joey and Kaiba setting the pace, they make quick time to the swirling blue portal Dartz disappeared into.
Yugi
Yugi has to trot a little to catch up to Kaiba once Joey's at his side. He's quiet as they walk quickly, letting the two have their bantering. Whether Kaiba means his words or not, at least his inflated insults feel familiar. Somehow, they distract him from the anxiety of the battle they're walking into.
But as they venture deeper back through the temple, his pace slows just a bit. He looks at the walls as they pass, empty now, and his chest feels tight.
"all those tiles are empty now. do you think.... they've been.. um."
"....Mm."
"devoured...?"
There's a pause, but Yugi can feel the way his Other Self flinches.
"...We need to move quickly, Partner."
And so he does. Yugi breaks into a bit of a jog as the conversation inside his heart quiets. He's right at Kaiba's side as they reenter the massive chamber where their last fight had taken place.
Yugi draws a deep breath as he approaches that rift. There's still the chance he's wrong. That this portal leads directly into the Leviathan's mighty maw instead of a battlefield. But they came all this way, the Duelists couldn't turn back now.
"ready guys?" Yugi asks his friends.
But the response he gets, the sound of Dartz's laughter echoing from the portal, sends a chill down his spine.
Yugi glances at his allies, wraps a fist around the chain of the Millennium Puzzle, and disappears into the teal light.

Bakura didn’t have the time to say anything that Kat was already on their shoulder as a cat. Bakura quickly thought about it. Yes. It was probably better that way. They gave her a scratch behind the ear before getting to the door and ringing the bell.
Ryou opened almost immediately, looking relieved as he saw Bakura. However he gave a surprised look at Kat, not expecting to see her in this form.
“She came to apologize,” Bakura explained. “But it would be best to not freak out Marik right away.”
Ryou nodded, understanding. He was in the same situation with Kek who didn't feel like showing up. He tried to talk while pretending to be taking a bathroom break, but the alter still didn't want to reveal himself. Seeing Marik so scared of him earlier somehow affected him.
Ryou moved aside so Bakura could come in. The thief walked to the living room where Marik was waiting, sitting on the couch with his arms crossed, looking a bit pissed off. He looked up as the duo entered the room. His eyes immediately went on Bakura and for a second he looked shocked. It was the same face he made when he recognised Bakura earlier, but this time he could fully watch the thief, fully realize it was really Bakura standing in front of him.
Marik got up.
“You really came back.”
Bakura smirked, “I'm hard to get rid off. So, how is life after becoming the Pharaoh's pet, tombkeeper?”
Marik immediately frowned, the shock vanishing from his face.
“Do not call me that!”
“And how am I supposed to call you? A fucking traitor?” Bakura hissed, crossing their arms. “Well, I guess you did your part in the end because it served me.”
“What?!” Marik’s eyes became wide open. “You can't- I have been in the wrong! What did you want me to do?! And I thought you were dead!”
“You didn't seem to have the need to double check,” Bakura shrugged.
“Oh, yes. Sure,” Marik rolled his eyes and waved his hand. “Let's ask in front of Yugi and the rest if the evil spirit who tried to kill them is still alive.”
“That's what I said. Now you're wagging your tail at them.”
Marik got closer and grabbed Bakura by the collar of their shirt, glaring at them. The thief didn't move, not intimidated. Only pissed off that they had to look up to see Marik’s face. Sure, they knew Marik would be taller now because he was obviously the same height as Kek, but it didn't mean that Bakura wouldn't be annoyed by it.
“I had been wrong and you know it,” Marik hissed. “I had to take responsibility for my mistakes. But I am not and will never be the Pharaoh's servant. I’ve done my part of the work so we would be even and I would have nothing to do with him ever again.”
Bakura smirked. Somehow, they were pleased to see Marik being so fired up.
“It's not what I heard. Aren't you here to see your new friends?”
“It's not the same. They aren't the Pharaoh. It was against him that I was fighting, not them.” Marik released the thief. “Why am I even arguing with you?! You’re even more annoying than before!”
Bakura laughed, to the blond surprise.
“And you're still a fucking brat.”
“I don't want to hear that from someone who tried to destroy the fucking world.”
“Excuse me for having more ambitions than making some guys drown in the sea.”
“I was being creative at least!”
“Sure, if you want to call it like that.”
Marik frowned a bit, but then ended up relaxing. The ‘yelling at each other part’ was over. Neither expected an apology or some deep declaration of friendship or whatever. Just being able to yell at each other and talk about the atrocities they caused without any uneasiness was the sign that it was fine between them.
Ryou had moved aside, letting them talk and not really worried about their bickery. It was how those two communicated the best.
“So, I have three questions,” Marik said.
“Yes?” Bakura raised an eyebrow.
“First, what are you here for? Second… Why did no one tell me you had breasts? And third. Why do you have a cat with you?”
At the last question, Marik looked at Kat with interest. Honestly he seemed more interested in this one than the others. Truth was, the blond loved animals (anything that didn't have scales anyway). He couldn’t get a cat because Isis was unfortunately allergic.
Bakura laughed at the questions.
“First, it's not your fucking business. Second, it's still not your fucking business. And third, it's my cat.”
(continued from here)
Kat could tell just through the phone that Ryou seemed a bit stressed about his current situation, so when Bakura said it was time to go she didn’t argue and quickly redressed in her clothes from earlier.
They quickly made their way over to Ryou’s apartment complex where Bakura did like usual and entered in the code to let them in. As they arrived at Ryou’s floor, Kat decided it was probably best for Bakura to not show up with the ‘psychopath’ standing right beside them.
“I think it’s best if I turn into a cat for now. Give you time to prepare him so he doesn’t try pulling a knife on me again.”
She didn’t give Bakura a chance to counter with an alternative as she changed into her cat-self and leapt up to perch herself in her usual spot on their shoulder.

The True Meaning(Yugi Muto x Female Reader)
What could be more fun than a small hang out party with friends? It was our usual hang out night at Yugi’s home. We start off with a couple of board games, and the last winner of the games gets to choose a movie for the night. Popcorn and soda as our dinner.
Yugi and I have known each other for a long time. Since babies, I suppose you could say. We’ve grown up together, doing practically everything together. But lately, I’ve noticed him spacing out around me. He would have his eyes closed, having a very odd and creepy smile as he daydreamed. I never really questioned it, since he is passing through puberty like the rest of us.
Now, besides him being tremendously odd, I have to worry about him getting taller than me. At the start of freshman year in high school, I had look down at the little midget. To my surprise, in the middle of senior year, he’s an inch taller than me. More handsome, too.
But he was my friend. I couldn’t think like that after everything we have been through. These were common thoughts I got during my time with the named boy. In fact, it’s happening as I grab popcorn bags from the cabinet with Yugi.
And, from taking so long in grabbing the snack, I realize how quiet Yugi has gotten. With his quietness, I got worried to the point of checking on him.
“You smell really nice.”
I froze before even turning to look at my childhood friend. I’m sorry? Was I missing something? I slowly turn to him, a little freaked out by the creepy words that spewed out of his mouth just now.
“Wh-what...?” I try to get confirmation from the boy himself to make sure I was just hearing things. Unfortunately, he had that weird daydreaming face again. Eyes closed with that creepy smile that will forever haunt my dreams.
I called his name unconsciously, bringing him back to the real world. His body jolted, magenta eyes coming back to life. “Huh?” He raises an eyebrow.
“Did you just...did you just say I smelled nice?” My face burned from the embarrassment.
He choked on air, processing what I just said. When he looked away with bright red cheeks, that’s when I knew he really did say those words. “I-um...I’m sorry...that must’ve been really creepy...” He was having a hard time forming words.
I chuckled at the awkwardness between us. Never has that really happened. “Yugi...you are so weird.”
He looks at me with widened eyes. “Huh?! B-but...!”
I turn away, putting the popcorn in the microwave. “You smell nice, too.” I give him a wide smile with reddened cheeks. Then, I leave the kitchen to check on the rest of the group.
If anybody knew Yugi from the inside out, then they would’ve noticed the meaning behind his words. I just hope he knows, too, the meaning behind my words.

Yu-Gi-Oh! ficlet: A Detour
I wrote this years ago, and never ended up posting it. So to kick off my next YGO fanfic, I figured this was good a time as any to unearth it.
This is part 1 of 2 of a prologue of sorts to my "Life With Kai-baby and Yami-kins" series. Except, it's not. Think of it as an AU take on a prologue. Confused? : )
A Detour
Kaiba hadn't planned to pass by the Kame Game Shop, but with road construction, the detour happened to take him that way. His head had done the rest, reflexively swinging in the direction of the familiar store as traffic crept by. He hadn't expected to see a certain ex-spirit stomping on cardboard by the dumpster. He couldn't help but smirk. After all the things the other Yu... no, Yami, had accomplished, it was more than a bit amusing to see him doing something as mundane as breaking down boxes for recycling. Before Kaiba realized it his car was in park and Yami was looking over at him, surprised, as the taller duelist got out and strode over towards him. "Kaiba?" "They have you taking out the trash, hmm?" For a moment Yami looked like he wanted to snap something in return, but instead he managed to smirk before saying, "Well someone has to do it. We don't all have an army of servants." Kaiba didn't know what to say to that. He didn't bother pointing out that it would be ridiculous to expect a CEO to be taking out trash from his office building. Instead, Kaiba's eyes swept down and back up again. Yami was wearing a ridiculously bright green t-shirt with an iron-on store logo that was beginning to peel itself off the chest pocket, and plain blue jeans. A distinctly non-Yami-like outfit, except for the fact that he'd still seen fit to raid Yugi's accessory collection for studded belts, wristbands, and a collar. "Nice shirt," he drawled. "I'll try to be more fashionable while working," Yami huffed, wiping off his brow. "Did you really stop to tell me my shirt is ugly?" "... No." "Well, then...?" Kaiba wasn't sure why he'd stopped. He wasn't used to casual conversation... casual anything, really. He turned part way, undecided if he ought to return to his car and just head home, then looked back and said, "Traffic is shit right now." "Yeah. It's been awful for business," Yami agreed, staring out at the tangle of cars before turning back to the taller teen. "You should come by more frequently. I hardly see you around." "I've been busy," Kaiba replied automatically. It was his answer to a lot of things. "Yugi and the others are too. They're seniors now. I guess it's a big deal." "I wouldn't know." "Neither would I." Kaiba grinned at that, earning a similar smile from Yami in return. "How's Noa doing?" Yami began again. Kaiba's grin sagged into a very slight frown. "Behaving, for the most part. I don't care what he does as long as he doesn't cause problems." "Mokuba keeping him in line, then?" "Something like that." Footsteps on the sidewalk drew both their attention back towards the shop. "Yami, if you're done with the..." Sugoroku began asking as he came around the corner. He came to a sudden stop as soon as he spotted Kaiba. "Ah, I... well..." Kaiba knew when he wasn't welcome. He probably shouldn't have stopped in the first place. "I better get going," he muttered as he turned abruptly and headed for his car. But Yami followed. "I meant what I said. Don't be a stranger, okay?" A stranger? Well, it wasn't like they were friends either. But Kaiba didn't say that. He gave a curt nod instead before getting into his car. Yami took a step back as Kaiba started up the engine, then watched as it vanished into the stream of traffic just as suddenly as it had appeared. "Well, that was unexpected," Sugoroku said when Yami walked back towards the shop. Yami's head bobbed in agreement. It certainly was. He couldn't help but wonder what else Kaiba might've said if Sugoroku hadn't interrupted them. Given how random Kaiba's appearance had been, he doubted he'd find out for quite a while.

@numberoneduelist
It feels like Seto’s blood is humming - he’s walking on clouds. He doesn’t hear any of the crowd’s cheering or cries of upset. There are few words that can describe the satisfaction he feels right now. He’s finally done it; he’s proven he’s at the same level as Yugi Mutou, legendary King of Games.
He’s been chasing this high for years.
Said man offers him a good-natured handshake and where he would normally scoff at the gesture, he obliges. He takes Yugi’s hand in his own. Instead of the lifeless shows of strength that he’s gotten used to while doing business with Americans, this is meaningful - it’s warm.
As he looks into his rival’s eyes, though, he feels a twinge of… something. It twists his gut into knots. Something in those amethyst irises feels… off. Maybe it’s just him. Maybe he’s overthinking it.
“That means a lot, coming from you.” He’s startlingly open in this moment, even to himself - he’s normally able to control his mouth better. He’s done away with the bravado, is speaking just for the two of them to hear. “… You are the toughest opponent I have had the pleasure of dueling against.
With or without the Pharaoh, Seto has been obsessed - he acknowledges that it’s been an issue - with defeating Mutou. He has watched from a distance as the twerpy kid he went to school with developed into a strong duelist with an eye for strategy and a confidence and cunning that belie his stature and approachable energy. Part of this has had to do with the spirit inhabiting the puzzle he put together all those years ago, but a lot of it… If it were truly because of Atem, Yugi wouldn’t have retained that kind nature, that unwavering hopefulness through all of it.
Standing here, Seto remembers last weekend, their talk at the arcade bar. How much Yugi has withdrawn into himself since the Pharaoh left for the final time and his friends split. It feels… tragic. He knows that the man is greater than just his relationship with a ghost - that he can stand on his own. It doesn’t seem like Mutou does, though. This is probably hard for him.
He realizes he’s been holding on for too long now, and quickly releases the shorter man’s hand. His eyes dart away. The sounds of the crowd finally edge back into his awareness and he shifts to rest a hand on his hip.
“You want to get something to eat?” He doesn’t want to leave the other alone. “There’s a hole in the wall place not too far from here. I can have someone pick us up.”
It is a relief when Seto takes his hand. The gesture is not only symbolic, but immensely comforting in ways that he hadn't ever really expected from Seto Kaiba. The man's words are soft, sweet and genuine. They were full of respect, admiration even.
Even though he had lost the duel and by all rights should be humiliated in front of this huge crowd that was snapping pictures of them and blasting his defeat out into the realms of the internet for all to see, what mattered far more to him was the way his rival looked at him then. It was clear he had not lost any respect for him. He did not view him as lesser than he did before.
The reassurance from the taller man had a lump forming in his throat and, for just a moment, he thought that he might make good on his prediction he had made offhandedly at the bar of ugly crying publicly should he compete. But he kept it together in front of the crowd.
But he did find himself wanting very much to no longer be in said crowd. He felt vulnerable and broken in ways that he did not want made public and currently, every eye was on him. Luckily, Seto seemed to step up to save him from himself once again, asking if they wanted to get out of there.
The concern in Seto's offer was not lost on him. He knew that Yugi shouldn't be alone. Of course he knew. There was part of him that wanted to decline and just go home to find solace at the bottom of a bottle at this point. But he was well aware that he would self-destruct left to his own devices.
The knowledge that Kaiba saw him so fully like that, and cared enough to keep him company when he should be gloating had him swallowing thickly around the lump in his throat as he gave a small nod. He pushed it all down to be bottled up deep inside his chest with the hundreds of other emotions that were kept at bay and managed a smile as he said, "Sure. That sounds really nice. I'd like that, Seto."

Millennium Heart
Hullo, I posted a Yu-Gi-Oh fanfic that I started writing in 2015 and decided to revamp. This was the first fic I ever posted in Fanficton.net under my new user name waaaaay back in 2015. The idea has been in my brain since I was 11 years old but I obviously 'adultified' it when I first posted it. Even still, there are things about my OCs personality that remained a little bit too mary-sue, so I am revamping and being cautious of how she comes across.
As always, constructive comments and feedback are appreciated! I'm excited to get this fic under way again, as istg Atem's voice was a part of my sexual awakening ok lmfao. I’m not tagging anyone because this is very much a guilty pleasure fic and I don’t know how often I’ll be updating it. <3
SUMMARY: For months, Atem has been suffering from nightmares about a woman he does not remember. When the friend group meets up for lunch, Tea introduces them to a new friend from dance class. It doesn't take Atem long to realize that this new friend is the same woman who had been haunting his dreams. Who is the woman? And why does she have a millennium item?
Read it here.
!!! PLEASE READ THE TAGS BEFORE READING !!!
TEASER:
Not a moment after did a familiar voice call out, Yugi pulling himself from the puzzle and back into reality. Never could the young teen dismiss the sound of Tea's voice, always so vibrant and obnoxious in the best way possible. A smile formed on Yugi's lips, walking up to her as he called out, "Hey Tea!"
"What took you song long, we've been waiting here for fifteen minutes! Are Joey and Tristan with you?" her head glanced over him, as if to find the two much taller men somewhat hidden behind him.
"Uh, no. Who's we ?" he asked, one brow raised in suspicion.
"Oh," Tea let out a soft, almost nervous laugh, "Sorry, my friend from dance class is coming along, is that okay? She's just in the bathroom right now," she admitted, giving Yugi a somewhat pleading look.
"I don't see why not; it's always nice to meet new people," he stated with a nod, his smile returning.
"Yay! I'm so glad you guys are able to meet! Poor girl's just moved here from Egypt and doesn't know anybody; so I figured it would be okay to bring her along," Tea shrugged positively, "The only thing I'm worried about are tweedle dee and tweedle dum scaring her off," this made Yugi let out a soft chuckle.
"Why, is she pretty?" just as he asked that question, an unfamiliar voice now made an entrance into his ears.
"Sorry, they were out of soap so I had to ask the attendant; it was a huge ordeal," the friendly stranger interrupted, stopping and standing beside Tea. Upon realizing that they were not alone, she looked towards Yugi, realizing just who she was now in the presence of.
"Kyoto, this is my friend-" Tea was cut off by her friend's voice.
"Yugi Moto, how could I not know? It's nice to meet you," a hand outstretched in greeting towards the master duelist. As Yugi shook her hand in return, he said nothing, as in his head a whole other conversation began to take place.
" It's her! " the strong voice seemed desperate and exasperated. The features of her face, soft and elegant, almost youthful though it was obvious she was a bit older than the group. The colour of her hair, silver but almost white and long and seemingly of silk. But it was her eyes that told the story; the thing that gave her away. They were a striking green, like that of an emerald, and soft, just like the woman in his dream; he could only just remembered now.

A few months ago I typed up some comments about the anime-only scene between Otogi and Honda on the blimp. Found here.
Well... now I'm here to talk about what happened before that scene. Because I read so much more into it.
Let's take a walk.
Please keep in mind that a great deal of this speculation comes from the belief that, despite Mr. Clown not being seen in the anime, he still exists and his relationship to his son is very similar. Also please keep in mind that this is all speculation from someone who has spent waaaayyyy too much time looking into everything Ryuji Otogi says/ does.
~~~
We join our heroes shortly after Yugi's Duel with Bakura. Ryou has fallen unconscious and the stab wound he sustained earlier has re-opened (unless you're watching the dub where blood doesn't exist.)
Otogi's first line comes after Shizuka has asked Kaiba to land the plane, and the camera cuts to her making a pose that demonstrates both uncertainty and discomfort. Kaiba stares at her and Honda and Otogi both get between them... to Honda's annoyance.
More on this in a second.
Kaiba ignores this and turns his attention back to Jonouchi and Yugi, telling them that it was Bakura's choice to Duel and that he will not be held responsible for the repercussions of another's mistake.
This causes Shizuka to shout (probably for the first time in her life.)
Otogi makes this face. Personally, I think it looks like a combination of surprise and concern. But why would he be concerned?
Because Shizuka is a lot younger, a lot smaller, and a lot less powerful (both physically and financially) than Seto Kaiba.
He is fearful of what Kaiba will do in retaliation, ans so.
He gets between Shizuka and Kaiba in hopes of transferring whatever Kaiba's about to do to him instead of her.
Because Ryuji Otogi is an abuse victim that knows what happens when you challenge someone bigger and more powerful than you. They put you back in your place.
Also Honda continues to not like this. Otogi is cutting him off each time he tries to speak, and while this could be seen as Otogi trying to one up Honda (and the dub absolutely took it that way) I can see it taken a number of ways. There's a chance he's trying to team up with Honda and hope that Kaiba won't start anything if it's two against one. It could also be that Otogi's not paying a lot of attention to Honda. He does see Shizuka and start moving in front of her before Honda moves into the frame the second time.
Going on a small tangent here but...
Keep in mind, Otogi stepped into a fight against four other guys and got himself involved in the fight against a cult to protect Honda and Shizuka. Sure, you can say that he did that to have a chance with her, but that's a lot of risk to have a chance with a girl he knows nothing about... especially for a guy who could have any number of girls with minimal effort. He will also shortly after this put up his own body as a gamble to protect Shizuka from a creepy old man that wants to wear her body like a suit. Personally, I don't think Otogi has any romantic feelings towards Shizuka at all, since each time they interact, he isn't so much flirting as he is trying to protect her. He treats Rebecca in a very similar way when he joins the duel between her and Varon under the assumption that Mai is also dueling, and that Rebecca will be outnumbered (and the correct assumption that a 12-year-old is about to pick a fight with a cult member who has the power to steal her soul. I've heard critiques that Otogi is very sexist because he won't let Rebecca nor Shizuka fight their own battles, which, yes, that's one way to take it... or you can take it as him stepping in when people significantly younger than even he is (Shizuka is 13) are put into incredible danger.)
That was lengthier than I meant for it to be, I'm sorry, back to the actual post.
So, despite everyone's best attempts, Kaiba's not landing this plane. Now get out.
Shizuka makes this face as they leave.
She's not having a good time.
Again Honda tries to talk to Shizuka and again Otogi cuts him off. He also grabs her hands and makes a very dramatic show of himself.
He makes this ridiculous face (that the dub skips because right after it, Shizuka blushes, and the dub really wants to portray Duke as the bad option in this love triangle. So we can't let it be known that she's happy he's doing this.)
This. This is not a face you use when you're trying to be suave and impress a girl. Heck, this is not a face we'll ever see him use again. We've seen him be suave and flirtatious, we know what it looks like, and folks, this ain't it.
To me, he knows he's being ridiculous and over-the-top. That's the point. He's trying to make Shizuka smile or at least stop making that face.
Now... this is where things take a turn.
Disclaimer: This might come across like I don't like Honda. I don't dislike Honda at all! It's just the nature of this scene.
Honda volunteers to go look for the Millennium Ring. Yugi agrees that they should all look. Honda says no, Jonouchi and Yugi should focus on their duels.
We cut to Otogi (still holding Shizuka's hands, I think she's okay now buddy you can stop) and he asks if Shizuka wants to help him search (he does not speak for her like he does in the dub.)
Honda insists Otogi come with him and very forcefully shoves/pushes Otogi away from Shizuka (who does, admittedly, look relieved.) When Otogi tries to protest that this isn't what he wants, Honda grabs his face to silence him.
This is not the first time someone has silenced Otogi by forcefully touching his face.
And this is not the expression of someone who is at all comfortable with the person touching him.
Honda then proceeds to drag a flailing Otogi away from the group while covering his mouth.
Otogi is doing everything in his power to communicate that he does not want this without being able to speak or break the guy's hold around his neck and no one is recognizing this as a sign of distress... or they are and they're just not stopping it. Heck, Jonouchi thinks Honda is being nice.
We can also see in this still that Honda's got a few inches on Otogi. Not a lot, Honda is 5'11 and Otogi is 5'8, but that's a considerable difference when you're intimidated.
Honda drags him to the top of the blimp and, while Otogi is looking about the blimp for the ring (what Honda claimed they were going up here to do) Honda stays still. Directly in front of the door. Blocking Otogi from being able to get away. (I can't post any more images in this post I'll have to rely on hyperlinks now.)
Otogi can't get away and he's been pulled away from the group. He is very aware this guy has a problem with him and can very easily overpower him.
So Otogi does what I've dubbed activates smug mode.
I'm going to make another post elaborating on activate smug mode (this one's long enough as it is) but, basically, Otogi only acts this way when he's trying to get the better of someone or when he's feeling threatened. He is also incredibly smug when he approaches his father to tell him that he lost to Yugi, knowing full well how his father will react to that news. It's a defense mechanism. Honda's taller and stronger than Otogi, all Otogi can really do is badmouth him and make him feel smaller in hopes that that will make Honda back off.
He then makes this pose.
I'm no body language specialist, but I worked as a counselor at a battered women's shelter for a while, so I was taught a few things.
1. He turns to his side. When you're intimidated by someone, you don't face them directly. You tilt your body away to give the illusion of distance, and to keep your vitals out of their direct reach.
2. He folds his arms in front of his stomach. Remember, Shizuka crossed her arms in front of her stomach when she was facing down Kaiba. Otogi is masking it a little by pointing and propping his elbow on his hand, but folding the arms over the chest or stomach remains a typical sign of insecurity/fear.
3. He is clutching his arm. This is something people do during severe bouts of anxiety in an attempt to ground themselves.
In conclusion, yes, Otogi sounds very confident and like he's egging Honda on. He sounds confident. Because that's the only thing he really has over Honda. Honda seems insecure about his appearance when compared to Otogi, thus why he gets deeply irritated whenever Otogi gets close to Shizuka. Otogi taps into that and uses it because it's his only defense in this situation. Maybe Honda will get fed up and leave to go lick his wounded pride.
It doesn't work. They throw hands. Well, Honda throws hands. Otogi stays in a very defensive stance the entire time. Fun fact: Keeping your arms raised close to your face and blocking your chest is one of the main stances in the more defensive based martial art of Tae-Kwon-Do.
In conclusion, my name is Axel and I think about this way, way, waaaay too much. I am of the belief that Otogi is very intimidated by Honda. I was going to attach images here of all the times Honda grabs Otogi's shirt/ threatens to punch him in the face but since I can't attach any more images and hyperlinks are a pain, I'll save it for another post. There are at least five instances.
No, I don't hate/dislike Honda, in fact, I'm pretty sure if Honda knew about Otogi's background, he'd feel terrible. The fact is they're both insecure teenage boys, Otogi because of his home life and Honda because of his family's social status and perhaps his lack of success as a duelist.
And... while I've thought about this scene a lot ever since posting that other post, I never realized how sad it makes me. Otogi's not hiding that he's not okay with being manhandled and dragged off, and his friends just sorta. Let it happen. Again, I don't blame any of them. Both Yugi and Jou have a lot on their minds and they don't seem to notice that this is a problem. Probably because 1. Honda and Jou are very physical/ playfully threatening people, that's just how they are. 2. No one knows about Otogi's homelife. They have no way of knowing he would have issue with any of this. They do it to one another all the time.
I have a lot of feelings.
Thank you for coming to my TEDTalk.
O P I A
[Puzzleshipping | ~12K]
He is used to seeing the world through Yugi’s eyes and filtering each experience through his thoughts; A thing was never just a thing but whatever Yugi saw in it. But not anymore. He watches his own fingers move closer, pushing in between the other’s until they finally all lock in place. He doesn’t know what that feels like to Yugi, but he sees their hands loving each other. And has to fully acknowledge that it is wonderful.
“No.” His voice feels comfortable for the first time. Along the length of his leg, Yugi’s ankle brushes in placid motion up and down. Bashful yet intrigued, Atem pays attention to how his body reacts to all these physical breaches. He also thinks back to what had happened in the photo booth.
Overall this story has just taught me so much; it needs to take a spot here. It was the very first time I have ever participated in a fandom event. It was the first time I wrote for Puzzleshipping, my first time writing Fluff, first time writing FOR someone else.
The pressure was so real, and I struggled so much along the way, but at the same time, this was the thing that catapulted me back into the fandom for real. After this, it seemed impossible to turn away again, and I realized how much I love not just writing but putting effort into writing. Polishing it, fighting against it if needed.
Break A Heart
[KingCrabshipping | ~12K]
Jack, who stood a head taller than Yusei, leaned down, hovering his lips over the fair skin of Yusei’s neck, sending hot breath on its path. Yusei’s desire was audible through his short breaths, but he didn’t care, not that he was keeping it a secret. The image in his head was Jack biting him to pieces, and it made him shiver. “Come on then, Yusei.” Jack’s voice was heavy, even if he hummed his words. He leaned in until he could feel the buckles of Yusei’s jacket against his chest. The beast's teeth playfully caressing the shell of his ear, Yusei couldn’t hide the vibration it sent through his body. “Fight me.”
This needs to be here not because it is especially great, it really isn’t, BUT it was something I wrote for me and for me only because this is what I wanted and needed and for once I really did not care if others would like it or not. And that was kind of special for me. Also this ship. It just makes me lose my shit, I love it this much.
A Wish Granted
[Wishshipping | Dragonshipping | ongoing]
“Ain’t as bad as it looks,” he felt the need to say. “Most are older.”
Yugi turned away and reached for the towel, wringing it in his hands. Already, just the sound of it had some bizarrely calming effect. “Sorry…, I didn’t mean to stare. I didn’t think you were hurt this badly.” He spread the towel across both his hands and gestured to Katsuya to lift his hand. Some water dripped onto his thighs but it didn’t seem to bother him.
“As I said, ain’t all fresh.”
“They were fresh once.” He slowly started to rub the dirt and dry blood off the skin, evidently taking great care not to put too much pressure at first, not to cause him any pain.
“Well, they don’t hurt anymore.”
The faintest, saddest smile hushed over Yugi’s face and for a moment Katsuya thought he might start to cry. “Hm… just looking at them hurts”, he said under his breath, as if to himself.
Katsuya thought about that for a second but stopped before he, too, could feel it.
My baby. Although it is constantly taking the back seat to make space for ongoing smaller projects and fandom events, this is so close to my heart. Jounouchi’s POV because I love him and I feel way too connected to this boy.
Even tho this is getting long: Inspired by @kuriboh-i-choose-you I will also put here a special mention [Scandalship WIP haha]:
HEAVENSENT
is the first thing I started writing in 2020. And until now it is the one I most want to write but also rarely find the correct headspace to do so. But I want to share a little something here then, if I might~
It is a story of Kaiba trying to travel to the afterlife, but traveling into the past instead, whoops.
[Scandalshipping | Prideshipping | WIP]
(of chapter 2)
A strange and new insecurity bewitched him. Was he meant to bow? No one ever taught him about this. But he did not feel like bowing to the other, instead, he lifted his chin ever so slightly. “I was worried not to be able to communicate.” “I wouldn’t have a language barrier get in the way of my revenge. Now, where are my clothes? Don’t make me ask again…” The audacity had Atem nearly choke on his breath. Wasn’t it too much to talk like this, no matter who he was? “It would appear the servants have taken it to clean... I will make sure it will be returned to you. You shall forgive the insolence.” He thought about calling the guards in, but didn’t want to interrupt the time between them quite yet. Once the priests found out about his awakening, they would be all over the case. “May I ask your name? I wish to at least address you properly. Forgive me for not recognizing you should there have been a way for me to kn-” “Seto Kaiba.” Seto! By Rah, if this was a joke, he wished it to come to an end already. Besides him being interrupted yet again when all he did was try to be polite, to have his dearest’s name be used atop of his shape, how much insult would he have to tolerate? “Seto….?” “It is unfortunate… I thought I should have left a lasting impression on that ghost of yours.” “I’m afraid I don’t understand.” “Yes, I’m aware. It’s rather obvious.” Searching for his composure, Atem pushed aside the blinds, pretending curiosity as to what was happening outside, where nothing was happening at all because the whole world was happening right here. He sensed it through the vibrations inside his chest. Alarmed by the sound of naked footsteps behind him, he turned just in time to hurry and push himself between the door and Seto Kaiba. “What are you doing?” “Out of my way, Pharaoh, I will find the lackeys responsible for my clothes vanishing, and I will get them, hopefully before someone dares to rub them against a stone down in the Nile.” His trembling palms raised toward Kaiba's chest, Atem managed to stop his motion, incredibly cautious not to touch him. “There is nothing wrong with the Nile, but I am trying to be understanding. However, will you please consider your appearance and withhold from exposing yourself like this to the entire court. The guards might think you a mad man. I ask you to stay here, I will get your dress back for you.” “You better be quick about it.” “Just...” Atem did not appreciate the language at all, but the worst of it was that the harsh fold between Kaiba’s brows, the disregard in the air between them and the light garment made his knees weak. “Just stay here. And stay quiet. If you cause trouble, I-” “I got it.” He turned away. “Just get on with it.”
This is so long, how awful, I apologize !!!!! but also ... greatful if anyone at all reads through this x.x’’’’’
in celebration of the upcoming ygo, can we get dates with the previous main protags?
Hell yeah you can, friendo! I’m really excited about Sevens,,,
Yugi Muto:
Initially, Yugi is so shy, you almost have to ask him out first. When he does finally gather his courage, he tries to be as casual as possible; “hey, did you maybe wanna go get something to eat on the way home? Just the two of us?” If he doesn’t outright call it a date… then you get to decide if it’s romantic or platonic.
Since it’ll be awhile before he’s got his own games out and selling, he doesn’t have much money very often. As a result, a lot of dates with him are casual; diners, the local arcade, maybe a movie. He feels bad about it, though, because he wants to provide for you a lot; he does his best to save up and take you somewhere expensive for special days.
Early on, he’s not very into PDA, because it gets him really flustered, and he’s not sure how you feel about it. You’ll have to be the one grabbing for his hand or initiating hugs. He does get a little clingy whenever you start interacting with other men, though.
Jaden Yuki:
Like Yugi, dates with Jaden are really casual, but that’s more a result of his personality than anything else. Jaden is incredibly spontaneous; he’d told himself he would really plan how to ask you out, but he just ended up saying it without thinking one day. “Do you wanna hang out with me on the mainland for awhile?”
Food is almost always involved. If you guys are seeing a movie, he gets tons of snacks; even if you’re just out for a walk in the park, he stops at every vendor you come across and gets something for the both of you. And of course, more than a few of your dates are for dinner- he insists on trying every restaurant that’ll let you in the front door.
Jaden’s surprisingly chill about PDA; he may seem dense, but he for sure noticed how red you got the first time he grabbed your hand, so he’s always looking to get a cute reaction out of you. His favorite thing is probably forehead kissed, because he’s taller than you are.
Yusei Fudo:
Having spent most of his life in poverty, Yusei isn’t quite one to go out often; he’s used to having to save every dime he gets his hands on, so much of your time spent together would probably be at home. If you’re into dueling and duel runners, he’s content to invite you over to just hang out while he’s working- if you don’t know how to duel, he’s more than happy to teach you.
Instead of traditional dates, when he’s got the free time, he loves to take you on day trips. Driving has always been one of his favorite things; he’d love to put you on his bike and just go exploring somewhere one day. He enjoys the journey more than he cares about a destination, so if you ever have anywhere specific you want to visit, he’s all for it.
He’s shy about PDA, but he comes to realize that he loves physical contact. He’ll take any excuse he can find to peel his gloves off and rest his hand on your shoulder, or the small of your back, and he gets very hands-on when trying to teach you how to duel or ride a bike. Listen, he’s shy and awkward, okay. Yusei is more one for gifts and trinkets; he shows up a lot with some cool little item that reminded him of you.
Yuma Tsukumo:
Yuma is dense when it comes to recognizing affection; it’s up to you to ask him out, and you’ve got to specify it’s a date, or else he’ll assume it’s just a friend thing. Also be aware that Astral’s trailing along for quite awhile, until Yuma realizes exactly what’s going on and sends him home.
Like many of the other boys- he’s a student, so dates will have to be cheap for awhile, although Yuma always puts his best into finding something unique for you both to do. Boat rentals for a few hours on the sea? For sure! The amusement park has a free entry day for duelists? You bet he’s building you a deck so you can both get in. And on days where neither of you can afford to go anywhere, he loves having you over at his place; he’s got all sorts of cool stuff at home. But he also tends to have unexpected visitors.
Yuma’s not really the jealous type, but he does tend to be clingy; every time you get together, he acts like he hasn’t seen you in years, and it practically all over you. If physical affection like hugs makes you uncomfortable, you’ve gotta tell him, because things like that come naturally to him- and of course, if that’s your love language, he’s thrilled to bits.
Yuya Sakaki:
Yuya’s subtle but confident with his feelings. The two of you spend a lot of time together as friends before he decides to ask you out; he wants to make sure you’d be comfortable with the idea, to avoid putting you on the spot, so he waits until he’s sure you’re returning his signals.
He’s really not partial when it comes to dates; as long as he gets to spend time with you, he’s happy, so you have a ton of sway in what the two of you get up to day in and day out. He’s happy studying together, shopping together, dueling together; he’s mostly interested in a partnership, so as long as you both agree, he has fun. He does love any moment when he can get you to laugh, though, so he often invites you to any scheduled entertainment duels he’s a part of.
Like with Yusei, Yuya’s pretty into gifts. It’s not a matter of being materialistic, but because whenever he sees something that makes him think of you, he just Has to get it; in turn, he loves getting even the smallest gifts from you, because he’s eternally amazed that someone like you would ever think about him.
No 5. WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING? On the Run | -Failed Escape- | -Rescue-
“Get back here!”
Yugi had no intention of following orders as she bolted across the school playing field for the nearest tree, fully intending to climb it and get away from the bullies who were pursuing her.
She managed to scramble onto the first branch before the much bigger students caught up to her, but that was not high enough. One of the taller students grabbed her right ankle and yanked hard.
She tried to hold on the next branch up, but the much bigger student’s body weight as yanked using his entire frame caused something in her leg to pop, causing pain to shoot up it.
Shocked, she let go, her cry of agony turning into a yelp of fear as she fell, her back hitting the floor hard, winding her and allowing the huge, thuggish boy to slam his foot into her head, which ricocheted off of the trunk of the tree.
The world spun and darkness nibbled at the edges of her vision as she tried to fight to stay awake, too dazed to resist as the thug’s friend pulled her up by the collar, allowing her first attacker to rip her backpack off.
Once they had it, she was dropped, her right leg buckling under her as her knee gave way at the wrong angle, and the pain from it overwhelmed her.
The last thing she saw was a foot coming her way, then it hit and pain exploded in her head.
And darkness took her.
------------------------------------------------------
When Oneesan woke up, it was dark.
Pitch black dark.
So dark she could not see.
Unnerved by the lack of visual input, she pushed herself sitting despite her pounding head, listening carefully to see if she could hear her attackers.
All that reached her ears, however, was the sounds of rain pouring down from the sky. It explained why she was soaked through and ground beneath her had turned to slop, but she knew instinctively that she needed to get the light out of the rain.
She tried to get to her feet, only for her right leg to give out under her with a fresh burst of pain that caused her to gasp.
Unable to see what was wrong, she felt around the injured limb, only to let out a couple of curses as she felt just how swollen her knee was.
She was not going to be able to walk on it.
She felt around, hands getting covered in mud as she tried to find out if her backpack was still around, hoping that she could use her mobile phone’s light to see what the heck was going on.
Except it was not here. At least not where she could reach it.
The spirit let out a soft huff, knowing that the missing backpack was a good sign that all of their homework, pocket money and phone were gone. They were just lucky that the thugs had not taken the Puzzle too. She suspected that it was because it would be too hard to pawn off without being tracked, rather than they did not want the money the gold in it would bring.
The darker souled sister tried to force herself to her feet again, far too aware that there was no way they were getting out of the rain if she could not, only to start to collapse when her leg gave way again.
Except this time she collapsed into something. Something soft, that sounded worried as it asked, “Oneesan?”
“Jou?” She asked, recognizing the voice, then squeaked as she was scooped up into his arms, not that she was sure how he could see to do it.
She felt the body holding her freeze momentarily. “You can’t tell?”
“I don’t know how you found us in this darkness.” The Pharaoh grumbled, clutching his shirt tightly and resting her head against his chest, needing the grounding now she had lost the feel of the floor below her. Being without it had felt too much like being trapped in the Shadows again for her comfort, but the feel of the fabric between her fingers and the sound of his heart beating reassured her that despite the pain, she was not back in the darkness.
“It’s not dark out. Well not that dark. It’s raining like mad but…” The Pharaoh’s breath came faster as she realized where he was going with it. It was not dark, not to anyone but her.
She quickly flickered through her sister’s memories of what had happened, worrying her lower lip with her teeth as she came to a realization that she hated passionately.
While she had been searching the Puzzle for the true room of her soul, hoping to find something more about her past, her sister had been attacked.
And the injuries she had taken to her head had, most likely, caused this.
“Jou?” Her voice shook ask she curled into him slightly, knowing that they needed him now more then ever, at least until they had recovered from their injuries and hating herself for not being there to prevent this, “We can’t see.”
She could feel his entire frame tense up. She could not blame him.
It was a week until Duelist Kingdom and she could not see.
Which meant she could not compete.
They could not compete.
Ojiisan’s soul and Shizuka’s operation were both relying on a trip that could now, not happen. Not unless her vision came back.
“We’ll manage.” Jou’s tone was rough, but stubborn. “Even if I have to take on all of your wishes too, we’ll still do this.”
As he headed for home with her still in his arms, she just hoped he was correct.
it’s been some time | kyg
Summary: You were more than excited to reunite with all your friends for your high school reunion, especially because you’d finally see your old best friend Yugyeom again only to realize you didn’t know he became this handsome. friends to lovers!au
Word count: 5.5k
Warnings: I did not proofread this yet! Also me overusing the phrase ‘it’s been some time’ and alcohol
“It has been some time.”, you said to your reflection, checking yourself out - you managed to look quite good, satisfied with yourself. It’s truly been some time since you looked as stunning as today, ready to make some men’s heads turn, feeling yourself for once. It was a nice feeling to feel confident again.
“You tryna get laid, huh?”, you heard your best friend Hwasa ask as she came into the bathroom, “Someone special in mind?”, she raised her eyebrow at you, checking you out and giving you an approving look.
“Just trying to make our old friends think that I still can look good.”, you let out a laugh as she started getting ready in front of your mirror. Tonight there was a big reunion party at your high school - all of your old classmates and friends would be there and you felt the need to prove that you still can pull it off. It’s been three years since you graduated and since then life truly went downhill. Working fulltime, paying rent, taking care of yourself and maintaining a social life can become truly overwhelming at times.
“Who’s coming here to pregame?”, Hwasa asked you with just one eyebrow drawn on her face, making it almost impossible for you not to laugh at her, “I’m hella excited to see Mark, we’ve been texting.”, she said with a smirk on her face, “And with texting I mean I dropped some nudes in our chat, acting like they weren’t for him and since then we won’t stop talking to each other.”
You let out a laugh at her, shaking your head amused, “Can’t believe you’re still after him years later.”
She let out a long and frustrated sigh, “I know, I know.”, she shrugged, attention now on her second eyebrow, “The heart wants what it wants, I guess.”
“And for you, that means Mark under you?”
“No way.”, she said serious all of a sudden before adding, “He can be on top, I bet he knows exactly what he’s doing.”
You rolled your eyes, the two of you had these kinds of discussions about Mark’s skills since years, “Well, I hope tonight is the night you find out.”
“I hope so too, Sis.”, she said before asking once again, “So who’s coming here before we go to the old school?”
“Oh, just the usual crew.”, you said as you started curling your hair, “You and me. Then Jackson and Bambam of course.”, that would be your close friend group at the moment, considering that the rest of your friends all moved away to study abroad or to live life in a bigger city, “Then I talked to Jaebum, he’s here too for the week so he’ll come around. As you know, the same goes for Mark. Jinyoung couldn’t make it sadly.”
“What about the dancing king?”, she asked casually, the use of her nickname for Yugyeom making you chuckle.
“He called and asked if he can come over too so I said yes.”, you said, trying not to be too excited to finally see Yugyeom again. He used to be your best friend in the world - the two of you were always together during high school, at every party you would sit beside him, he’d make sure you’d get drunk and if you got to drunk he’d take you home even though he mostly was drunk himself. Everyone knew you two would come together and leave together. In school you’d sit next to each other, constantly teasing the other one when they didn’t solve a math problem in time or talking shit about the couples making out in the hallway.
“I stalked him on Instagram, he looks mighty fine now.”, Hwasa said, giving you a small wink - you were used to that, everyone always thought you two would end up together. But no, not you and Yugyeom, you were the definition of just friends. Often enough did you introduce him to girls so he’d get laid.
“You really think that, after not falling in love with him all three years of high school, I suddenly will rip off his clothes? I haven’t seen that guy in three years.”
Around an hour later you and Hwasa were all dolled up, ready to get drunk and have a nice night. You couldn’t wait to see all of your old friends again.
As Jaebum arrived together with Jackson and Bambam the two of you were already tipsy, forcing the boys to catch up with you.
“Go slow on me.”, Jaebum said as Hwasa poured him the third shot within twenty minutes but she didn’t care. The two of them have always been close but since Hwasa always had her eyes on Mark Jaebum never got to make a move on her.
“I can’t wait to see all of our old friends again.”, Bambam turned to you, excitement written all over his face. After Yugyeom, you’d consider Bambam closest to you, he definitely was your best friend at the moment, he knew you and you two often didn’t need words to communicate - you spent a lot of time with him in high school too, he usually sat beside you and Yugyeom and he definitely was also Yugyeom’s best friend - but after Yugyeom left your country to go to university Bambam and you grew closer and now he kind of took Yugyeom’s spot.
“Right? It’s been too long.”, you let out a playful pout before continuing, “I can’t believe Yugi is actually coming though. Have you heard of him since he left?”
“Barely. We talked on our birthdays but that’s about it.”, he took another sip of the Red Bull mixed with Vodka in front of him and you couldn’t wait for him to be drunk, drunk Bambam was your favorite Bambam.
Suddenly you heard Hwasa giggle from your front door, you didn’t even hear the doorbell. “Dancing king!”, you heard her say loudly but you couldn’t see them yet, “You’re tall now!”
Bambam and you immediately got up, curious to see him again.
In the door stood your Kim Yugyeom - at least that’s what you assumed. He changed so much, Hwasa wasn’t wrong. His shoulders became way broader and he was at least one head taller than you by now, if not more. Yugi’s hair wasn’t black anymore, it had an ashy blonde tone now which suited him really well, and you could actually see his forehead a bit - maybe for the first time since you’ve met him six years ago. The only thing that didn’t change was his choice of clothing - he was still wearing black skinny jeans in combination with striped shirts, a belt holding the outfit all together.
“What kind of hormones do they feed you at your university?”, Bambam said laughing as he walked towards his old best friend, hugging him tightly. Yugyeom looked so happy to see him.
As Bambam let go of him you stood right beside him, waiting for your turn to welcome him. He looked at you and immediately smiled, giving you a warm feeling inside.
“Hi there.”, he said, his fingers pinching your cheek before hugging you tightly, “How have you been? It’s been some time.”
His hug felt so different from the last one you remembered but still very intimate. “I missed you.”, you spoke into his chest, not sure if he could even hear you but it was true - you missed him a lot, kind of funny considering that, until you saw him, you didn’t even realize how much.
Lastly, Mark arrived and, of course, Hwasa and he immediately were flirting again like there is no tomorrow.
“Ah, young love must be so beautiful.”, Jackson said laughing as the two of them took a shot together while linking their arms with each other.
All of you were now sitting on your coffee table, in the middle of it stood the alcohol, some early 2000s music was playing on your TV and all of you were talking wildly over each other.
Yugyeom, who was sitting beside you on the couch looked at you in confusion, “Are they together now? Or still just flirting?”, he almost whispered so only you could hear, even though you were pretty sure that no one would’ve heard anyway since everyone is having their own conversations.
You rolled your eyes, laughing, “Nah, they haven’t been talking in a year. But now they started again. It would be a lot easier for all of us if they just started dating.”
Yugyeom chuckled, “They are into each other since high school. That’s dedication.”
“Or just desperation.”, you shrugged. In the end, you just really hoped that they’d finally end up together.
“Tell me about you.”, Yugyeom said, a slightly red blush on his cheeks and you wondered if it was because of the alcohol or if it was because of shy nature. Usually, he wasn’t shy around you, not only did he trust you a lot but you were also constantly resting his head on his shoulder during high school or had him hugging you from behind, which was probably another reason why a lot of people thought there was something between you - which still wasn’t true. Even though you had to admit that now, Yugyeom definitely was very attractive. And it’s been some time for you since you even shared a bed with a man. Also, you knew he isn’t a bad guy.
Oh god - what were you thinking? The last thing that you should do if having those kind of thoughts about your high school friend. Also, Yugyeom definitely was not having any similar thoughts about you so it wouldn’t matter anyway.
“What do you wanna know?”, you asked him while filling up his cup with some more Vodka and orange juice - it was nice seeing that his favorite drink didn’t change after all the time, even though you’d never understand how he could love it so much, to you it was one of the worst combinations ever, “Not much has changed. I live on my own now, I constantly work, but, besides that, I’m still the dumb bitch I was when you left.”
He rolled his eyes, “I still hate it when you insult yourself.”
You rolled your eyes right back at him, “I still don’t care. What about you though? You’re almost finished with college. What are your plans?”
“I-”, he started but paused for a second, “Actually, I thought about moving back home. I’ve already looked for affordable apartments.”
Unwillingly your jaw dropped a bit. Your first instinct was to hit his arm so you did.
He let out a laugh, rubbing the spot you hit, “That hurt! What was that for?”
“When did you decide that?”
“About three or four months ago?”, he said, unsure.
“But why?”, you asked. For a second you were afraid you sounded mean but you just really couldn’t get it in your head. Not in a thousand years you would’ve thought that he’d come back home.
“It’s my home.”, he shrugged, laughing at you being speechless, “Why are you acting so strange? Should I not come back?”
“Shut your mouth.”, you said threatening, “Of course you should! We could see each other more often, how amazing is that? There’s this new bar down the street, it’s so cool, I bet you’d love it, we could always meet there. And you have to come and visit me at least once a week.”
Before you could continue he interrupted you, holding up a shot in front of you, “Missed me, huh?”
You felt yourself blushing, taking the shot out of his hand, “I’m sorry. It’s just-”
“No, don’t be sorry. I missed you too. I’d love to check out that bar, really.”
About an hour, many drinks and laughters about old memories later your group decided to go to your old school, excited for tonight's high school reunion. It was a twenty-minute walk but you somehow decided that you’d walk there. Why you didn’t know - not only was it dark and cold but also you were definitely not sober anymore and you could not even walk a straight line anymore.
Still, you had to admit, the walk was nice though. Back in high school you constantly had those drunk late night walks with your group. “Remember when Jaebum and Mark had to pee so bad one time they peed against a fence and the lady who lived there threw a bowl of water over them from her window?”, Jackson screamed over the music that was coming from Bambam’s music box, making all of you burst out in laughter.
“It’s what we deserved.”, Jaebum said, laughing too.
“We had no manners, I feel sorry about that now.”, Mark said.
As your group was reveling in memories you suddenly felt Hwasa linking her arm with yours, walking a bit to the side with you.
“What’s up? How are things going with Mark?”, you gave her a small wink, “He’s been close to you all night.”
She let out a small giggle while raising her eyebrow, “Who knows where the night is going. Hopefully straight to his place.”
“I’ll be disappointed if I don’t wake up to a text with all the information we’ve been speculating about for years now.”
“What’s going on between you and Yugyeom though?”, she asked, leaving you shocked for a second.
“W-What do you mean?”, you asked carefully, not wanting to be too obvious but, of course, your best friend wasn’t buying it.
“You think I’m blind? I’ve seen the looks you gave him.”, she shook her head amused, “I get it, kiddo. He looks amazing, even I was drooling a bit when I saw him. And even though you won’t admit it, you always had a thing for him.”
You didn’t. But discussing would bring you nowhere, you knew that much by now.
So instead you decided to be honest, letting out a sigh, “It’s just, he looks breathtaking and we still get along so good, it’s like he never left.”
“So what? Give it your all, Sis. I bet he won’t be able to resist you, he’s been into you since forever. He never cared for any girl except for you through all of high school.”, she tried to convince you but you still were unsure.
“This stuff takes two, you know?”
“OH, what did you say?”, your best friend suddenly said, more like screamed, “You’re cold?”
“Don’t, Hwasa, seriously.”, you tried to warn her but she didn’t care.
“You should’ve brought a jacket.”, she said, once again very loud before mumbling to you, “Thank me later.”
You’d make a mental note to kill Hwasa later as Yugyeom, who was now walking next to you again, gave you his jacket immediately, a smile on his face. “Why didn’t you say anything?”, he asked as if it was the most obvious thing for him to give you his jacket.
“Now you’ll freeze!”, you said as he laid the jacket around your shoulders.
“Not with the magic of alcohol.”, he smirked as he took a big sip from your drink for the way.
So, that’s how you ended up wearing the jacket of your best friend, catching yourself secretly smelling it, so you’ll have his scent in your nose - what on earth were you even doing? you spent years and years to convince people that you did not have a crush on him just to fancy him as soon as you see him again?
Him giving you a soft and shy smile definitely did not help at all, if anything it made it worse.
“Ah, (y/n), you look really cute in my jacket.”, he mumbled, drunkenly staggering against you a bit.
“You’re drunk, Yugi.”, you said laughing his compliment off.
“Yes. And you’re cute. We’re just stating fun facts now?”, he asked playfully, “A bolt of lightning is about six times hotter than the sun. Your turn.”
“Wow, Yugyeom, you really know how to impress women, huh?”, Bambam said walking over to you, “Does it work, (y/n)?”
You scoffed, “I’m about to rip his clothes off, you better be careful not to get hurt around us, Bammie.”
The rest of the walk to the school Bambam walked with you and Yugyeom and a part of you was thankful - you really can’t handle Yugyeom being drunk and flirty, which wasn’t unusual for him, right now.
Arriving there, you tried giving Yugyeom his jacket back but he told you to keep it for the way back. The school was already pretty crowded, your group was probably one of the last ones to arrive. Immediately you and Hwasa looked around, looking at all the different people, trying to get a good glimpse of what was going on. The hall you were celebrating in was decorated in beautiful gold tones and only lightly lit by some dim lights. Music was playing loudly in the background and a lot of people were already dancing - Yugyeom and Bambam immediately made their way to the dance floor too. “If you need me, or just some fresh air, you know where to find me.”, he said to you before leaving.
“God, you two are embarrassing.”, Hwasa mumbled under her breath as she still looked around, “Oh god, Jeff is here. With a woman.”, she said raising her eyebrow in annoyance as she saw the only man she dated in high school, the only guy who ever made her forget Mark Tuan.
“He’ll be bitter when he sees you with Mark.”, you said chuckling. You still remember the day Hwasa left Jeff for Mark - to be honest, you never were a fan of Jeff so you thought it was quite amusing when she broke up with him.
“I gotta find him asap and convince him to tell everyone we’re together, just in case Jeff asks someone.”, she said before rushing away to look for Mark.
Searching for Bambam and Yugyeom on the dancefloor was easy - they were taller than most of the other people - they were also doing Fortnite dances which made you shake your head. Of course they’d be doing those dances. You decided to get a drink at the bar before joining them on the dancefloor.
A few minutes later you and your Gin Tonic were walking over to Bambam and Yugyeom, both of them seemed too happy to be together again and you wished it could stay like that, wished the night wouldn’t end at all.
Just as you got to them someone else apparently did too - a girl from your science class, you still remembered her face but her name was not coming to your mind. She was walking straight to your friends, leaving you confused, they never seemed to be close to her.
You looked at Bambam who was just noticing the girl and without talking to him you knew that he also couldn’t exactly remember who she was.
“Yugyeom?”, she asked, not paying attention to you or Bambam. Yugyeom also didn’t notice your presence yet, turning to the girl, “Hi. I thought I might see you here.”
The girl seemed to be a bit shy around him and you wondered why - but it was bugging you more that you could not remember her name at all. You even remembered exactly where she was sitting or with whom she just to hang around but her name was not coming to your mind.
“Were they friends?”, Bambam asked you quietly as she greeted him.
“I can’t remember.”, you admitted.
“Oh.”, Yugyeom said, a bit taken aback, “Naya.”
Bambam and you threw each other questioning glances, Yugyeom seemed to feel awkward and none of you could figure out why.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t want to interrupt you or anything.”, she said looking over to you and Bambam, “Hey guys, good to see you.”
Before you could answer she turned back to Yugyeom who had just noticed you next to him and fastly gave you a small smile. “I just wondered how you’ve been doing. I thought it would’ve been more awkward to ignore each other. Maybe I was wrong.”
He immediately shook his head, “No no, I’m sorry. I just didn’t think I’d see you here today.”
She raised her eyebrow at his plain answer, “At our high school reunion? Why wouldn’t I be here?”
He stuttered a bit, trying to find the right words but nothing came out. Right now, all he could think about was that he needed to tell you about him and Naya right after this talk and it made his heart feel heavy. He tried to impress you all evening, flirting, talking, staying close to you as much as he could. As he didn’t say anything she bit her under lip, looking rather disappointed. “Are you two together now?”, she gestured between you and Yugyeom.
If you weren’t confused before you definitely were now.
“Naya, can we talk outside? I don’t wanna do this in here, in front of everyone.”, he asked her. Bambam looked at you once again, his eyebrows narrowing, thinking the same you did right now: There definitely was something between the two of them. But when? And what exactly?
“It’s okay, Yugyeom.”, she said with a heavy sigh, “We don’t have to, really.”
“No, but we should maybe.”, he said before turning to you, “Meet me in ten minutes in front of the toilets?”
“Uhm-”, you were more than unsure of what was going on but he seemed to feel conflicted so you decided to just do what he asked you to, “Alright, see you there Yugi.”
And so the two of them were walking towards the exit, leaving you and Bambam.
He let out a laugh, “Poor Yugi. He seemed to be in trouble.”
You couldn’t help but chuckle a bit at Bambam’s reaction, “Hey, you think that’s funny?”
“Very.”, he said, still grinning like a little child, “You think they dated?”
You slowly nodded your head, “I mean, that seems like the most obvious explanation for that awkward situation.”
You didn’t know Yugyeom had a girlfriend after he left, especially not someone from your old school. A rush of jealousy came over you, not because you wished you were in Naya’s place, more because you and him didn’t manage to stay friends after he left while he apparently was with Naya.
“I bet he hated that you heard that conversation. He’s definitely into you.”, Bambam ruffled through your hair despite him knowing how much you hated that.
“Wait, you think that too?”, you asked him surprised, “Hwasa said so too but I don’t trust her, she just wants me to get laid.”
His smile grew wider but he rolled his eyes, “It’s quite obvious. He even gave you his jacket. And don’t believe I didn’t hear him call you cute. I know our Yugyeom, he never was one of those guys who just fucked around and I highly doubt he would ever. Plus, you were one of his closest friends, I don’t think he’d ruin that if he doesn’t like you. Double plus, ‘Meet me in ten minutes in front of the toilets?’ - Come on, you can’t be that blind.”
“Maybe he is jus-”, you tried to defend yourself but Bambam cut you off immediately.
“Maybe he is just into you. And oh, I know you too, little one. Don’t think I didn’t see the way you check him out constantly or try to be a bit too close to him. Now go to those toilets and don’t come back until you made a baby.”, he said to you before mumbling to himself, “Even though I don’t understand why it has to be at the toilets.”
You quickly gave your best friend a hug to which he immediately pushed you away and then you made your way to the toilets. You knew exactly why Yugyeom met you here, it was the place the two of you shared your first, and also last, kiss on the yule ball four years ago. Both of you were drunk, even drunker than tonight, and Lee Eric just friendzoned you because he said you were a bad kisser, which you clearly couldn’t accept. So you told Yugyeom and one thing lead to the other - both of you never told anyone, considering the fact that you already got teased enough for ‘acting like a couple’ but it was a nice kiss, a fun memory and Yugyeom assured you that you weren’t a bad kisser which built up your confidence back then.
He was there before you and smiled as you walked towards him.
“Hi.”, he said quiet and shy, but his smile was still showing.
“Hi there.”, you said, giving him a shy smile back. You stood right in front of him and you swore his eyes were shortly looking down on your lips. Maybe Bambam was right. “Did you and Naya sort everything out?”, you asked him, your voice soft, you didn’t really care if they dated right now, you only could concentrate on his face, studying his features like you’ve never seen them before.
He took a deep breath, before putting his hand around your waist, walking with you while explaining, “We dated after I left the city.”
“No shit.”, you said laughing, “I kind of guessed that already.”
He let out a laugh too, as he was sitting down on the stairs he led you too, his hand still on your waist, making you sit down next to him, “We went to the same university. And since I knew her already we spent a lot of time together and ended up dating.”, he continued to tell you the story as you decided to rest your head on his shoulders like so many times before. It felt different today though. As you leaned against him, his lips found your head, even though he didn’t kiss it you still felt them on you, making you feel both, safe but also nervous. “We dated for about ten months. I broke up with her because we were fighting a lot and I knew as good as her that we didn’t have a future. A few months later she left university and moved back home. Since then I didn’t hear from her.”
His thumb was rubbing lightly over your waist and you enjoyed the touch. “Why did she ask if we’re together now?”, you asked what you were really curious about.
“I don’t know.”, he shrugged and you could feel him smiling, “Maybe because we make such a hot couple.”
You let out a laugh, breaking away from the position you were currently in to hit his chest, “You’re the worst.”
He laughed too and immediately pulled you closer again, his hand still resting on your waist, “Hey, stay like this.”
And you did. So you sat there, in Yugyeom’s arms in your old school, a place you knew better than most places, talking about everything with the man you knew better than most people.
“It’s been some time since I felt so close to someone, Yugyeom.”, you admitted, not even feeling shy. After all, he was still your Kim Yugyeom, you trusted him.
“Same goes for me.”, he admitted, his hand wandering from your waist to your hand, caressing it lightly, “It’s quite funny that it’s you who I’m holding after convincing everyone for years that exactly this would never happen.”
Both of you were not even trying to be subtle anymore by now, it was clear that you were unbelievable attracted to each other. You chuckled a bit, before standing up. “Follow me.”, you said, your hand now linked with his.
He let out a pout, “But I really enjoyed that moment.”
“I promise, it’ll be worth it.”, you said as he stood up, following you around the big stairs, standing under them now between the cleaning utensils, “Get out your phone, we need a flashlight!”, you said eager.
He chuckled, handing you the flashlight, “What are we looking for? Spiders?”
“On the day we graduated me and my girls carved something into here. I’m looking for it right now.”, you said concentrating before you found what you were looking for, “Look!”
‘ YUGI + (Y/N) - BFFs ‘ was carved right above you, next to Hwasa’s ‘ M+H ‘.
His eyes grew wide as you showed him the carving, “I didn’t know you did that. You broke the law for me, huh?”
“Oh I made sure it was after we got all of our graduation papers, don’t worry.”
He let out a laugh and put his phone back into the pocket - suddenly it was quite dark and neither one of you wanted to leave for a second, both knowing that it was now or never.
Suddenly, that idiot started talking, a thing he always did when he was nervous - talking too much. “You know, (y/n), when I saw you today I realized how mu-”
“Will you just kiss me already?”, you interrupted him before you could think about what just slipped out of your mouth, glad your voice sounded so soft and cool, hiding your actual nervousness.
He chuckled, his hand in your hair, coming a bit closer, “Oh, that’s why you brought me here?”, his voice was teasing but his other hand found your waist once again, pulling you a bit closer.
“Yugi~”, you whined, not able to take his talking any longer, “It’s been some time, I don’t want to wait any longer, okay?”
And that was enough for him, his lips softly found yours and you could feel him smiling into the kiss as he basically pressed his body against yours, leaving no space between you at all. His hands played with your hair while he put some more pressure into the kiss and you can’t remember if you ever had such a good first kiss. While the two of you were still not breaking away and the kiss deepened his hand wandered from your waist to your hand, holding it up and you could swear you felt your legs shaking.
Maybe you wanted Yugyeom more than you would like to admit.
You whimpered a bit as he freed himself from the kiss, his forehead against yours, a smile still on his lips. For a second no one could say anything, both of you were overwhelmed with emotions.
“I could do this all night if I am honest.”, he said giggling a bit before giving you another small peck on your lips, “This feels crazy. But in a good way.”
“Well, luckily I don’t have any other plans for tonight.”, you said smiling up to him, knowing this wouldn’t be the last kiss you’d share tonight - whatever happens after that is not interesting right now. For this moment all you wanted was Yugyeom right next to you.
A/N: Thank you for reading ♥ I’m thinking of writing a second part to this if it doesn’t flop? Tell me what you think or if you found any mistakes while reading ( I bet there are a lot since I didn’t proofread yet). Any kind of feedback is more than welcome!
“This is Kubo's (Polnareff) unrecognized son But this is the least recognized son, less than the other Well, this child is Yugi Oouu He grew up without a father and always had problems But that was because of bullying at school Before that, he was a good boy He was always well-groomed, had a nice haircut, did his homework One day he joined the school’s fencing club because he wanted to be popular And he realized that he was very good at that When he told his mother, who still resented Kubo because he went to buy cigarettes in a boat and never came back, she got angry and forbade him to do fencing and told him the story of his father Since then he is a troubled boy. He tried to find information about his father, but all the clues he found were related to fencing and his only conclusion was that he was the son of Zorro As his mother did not know what to do and did not want to tell him who his father was, she sent him to the juvenile military school When he had to cut his hair, he asked for a Saiyan style haircut to be able to compensate for his height because the other children were taller. The one who cut his hair was Ricky who still worked as a hairdresser for the military service and sometimes for the children's correctional In the talk while Ricky cut his hair, he realized that dancing helped him relax and he started taking Flamenco classes on the weekends. Since Ricky was very fond of him, he gives him a robotic suit to protect himself from bullies And his hobbie is being Ricky's cadet to learn to cut hair His dream is that when he grows up he will open his own barber shop His suit has no powers in general,it just avoids the bullies So he's dedicated to protecting weak children And step by step, find out more about his origin The real change comes when Ricky and Marco talk about basically adopting him, but not really, and teaching him everything Ricky knows about the art of cutting hair”
Returning The Favor
Originally posted to AO3 under username Little-coffins, link:
Summary: Amane Yugi decided to return the favor and be a good teacher when he sees Minamoto Kous burnt hand.
Word count: 1573
A hot summer's day droned on for the students of Kamome's middle school class 3-A. The students, sweating bullets sat near limp at their desks, near tears of boredom and fatigue filling their eyes. However, leaning against his desk stood Yugi-sensei, the classes science teacher.
On the taller side, the man had short black hair and bright orange eyes, a handsome young face filled with enthusiasm for the subject, a feature not shared with his students at the moment, and strangest a of all, a thick black turtleneck and a white lab coat.
The outfit choice was on the stranger side on most days however this stood out even more so today of all days with the sun beating down at a whopping plus 35 with not a cloud insight, baking the classroom that had no functioning AC.
The man flipped through the pages, reading and explaining dutiful to the half dead students. In the middle of his sentence, he paused with a sigh. Nearer to the back sat an empty desk between two boys, one that usually held a student, however said boy had disappeared nearly an hour ago with the odd excuse of 'sorry sensei, I think I'm herneating and need to visit the nurses.'
A student who was just outside the classroom, outside at one of the windows, crouched down and staring in at him fiercely.
Turning on his heels, Yugi walked directly up to the window, unlatching it and swinging it open, narrowing missing the blonde teens head as he did so, said boy now crouched down as still as possible as if the teacher hadn't been aware of his observing presence the entire time.
"Minamoto, if you intend to stare at my like that could you at least do it in the classroom? It's too hot out here, you get heat stroke." Brows raised ge stared at the teen as he fumbled over his words.
"N-No way! I'm trying to expose you and your evil deeds!" He shouted, pointed an accusatory finger into his face.
"Right, well do you mind doing it inside? Your gonna get sick out here. Plus, why do you need binoculars? You were barely a meter away from me." Stepping out of the way he gave the teen room to step back inside through the open window.
"I-I was planning on finding a higher vantage point!" He argued, flushing red in the face.
"Well, do it inside please?" With a huff the boy climbed back inside and shifled his way back to his seat, ignored by his dozing classmates.
Yugi had noticed a bright and blood burn across his palm, and he blinked owlishly at the sight. Shaking his head lightly, he shut the window and meandered back to his desk to resume the lesson.
He'd speak to Minamoto after class.
...
As the finally bell rang, students sluggishly made their ways out of the room, seeing the moon already up in the lit sky, watching on above.
Watching him be a responsible teacher.
Sitting at his desk, he leaned over and pulled the back of a chair, tugging it forward in front of him, looking up to see Minamoto about to leave the class with with his friends.
"Minamoto! Come here for a moment!" Minamoto blinked at him before looking to his friends who simply shook their heads at him before exiting the room without him.
Walking towards the teacher, he stopped a few feet away, bag half slung over his shoulder and his strange umbrella poking at the floor.
He spoke.
"Yeah Sensei? Are you here to admit that your an evil supernatural and one of the seven school mysteries?" He sounded far too excited rather than nonchalant which he was likely going for.
Yugi snorted and gestured for him to sit. With an amused tone, he said "No, sorry to say Minamoto but I can't say that's why I called you over here." With a disappointed look Minamoto flopped heavily onto the chair, lip jutting out petulantly as he refused to make eye contact with his teacher.
"Mind putting your hand out for me?" He glanced at him out of the corner of his eye as he dug through his desk for his medical kit. The thing had been gathering dust for years.
"Other hand, Minamoto." He said more sternly, finally finding the kit and setting it down on the desk, before clicking it open.
"What are you doing?" The blonde boy leant forward to peer into the box, eyes widening when he sees the medical supplies.
"So, how did you manage to get that? Pretty nasty burn, second degree I'd say." He hummed, pulling tweezers from the kit, disinfectant and cotton balls.
"That ain't your business," his face flushed out of what he presumed was embarrassment, ducking his head to the side to pretend to be exceptionally interested in the wall.
Yugi chuckled slightly.
"Course, well whatever it is that isn't my business, I'd be more careful because burn scars look awful ugly, believe me." He dipped the soaked cotton against his hand, holding his wrist firmly to try and stopping the flinching from jostling the appendage too much.
"Yeah, yeah, I'll try to be more careful." He griped, glaring at hands working diligently at cleaning the wound.
Silence filled the room, one Kou found awkward, though Yugi didn't seem to share the sentiment.
Soaking another piece of cotton, Yugi spoke up again.
"Did you Tsuchigomori used to be my teacher?" Kou stared at him for a moment before his eyebrows shot into his hairline.
"Seriously? He doesn't look that old." Yugi choked on a laugh at the response, likely shaking his head.
"I'll have you know I'm only twenty five, Minamoto, I'm really not that old." He dropped the tweezers into the tray filled with the bloodied cotton.
"Whatever old man," he scoffed.
"Ruthless to your poor teacher today, aren't you?" He just simy grinned as he pulled out the gauze.
"Well, when I was in middle school here, Tsuchigomori would do this for me." Kou tilted his head, now staring up at his teacher who's eyes remained fixed on the hand he had just begun carefully wrapping.
"Why?" He inquired.
"Well, he said he was worried about me, always coming into school all beat up, covered in cuts and stuff, though recently he admitted he was definitely motivated to get me bandaged to keep me from bleeding on his furniture," he snorted to himself, tugging lightly on the bandages to make sure they were evenly snug.
"I'd loiter in his classroom afterwards to avoid going home, mostly, and he'd end up cleaning me up, make sure nothing would get infected," he hummed lightly, his face remaining light.
"Now that I think about it, ninety percent of my school life was spent bugging him. Whatever!" He tugged the bandages one last time before beginning to tie it up.
"The entire time I absolutely refused to tell him why I was coming to school like that, I was a right pain in those days." He released the boys hand and watched him experimentally flex it.
"Nonetheless, the reason I'm telling you this is to get you to be more careful, or you may become like me, puttering around teachers classrooms waiting for them to kiss my boo boos." He stood up, shucking the coat off, something Kou had never seen him do, and he caught a glimpse of pale white line from the top to the bottom of his wrists, making him star openly, eyes wide towards his teacher.
"Don't waste your time of being a kid getting hurt, scars don't look good on anyone, so being careful is just your best bet, okay? I know the reason you've got that burn is because your fiddling around with something you don't know how to use." He glanced meaningfully at the 'umbrella' resting against the teens thigh.
"Okay? Don't make me Tsuchigomori two point oh," he chuckled, crossing his arms over his chest. "Though if you do ever need help don't be afraid to ask, of course. It's my job to help you out, kid." Dumbly, Kou nodded.
"Now scram, go catch up to your brother or I'll have to listen to him whine at me for keeping you too late."
"Right..." he picked his bag back up, tossing it over his shoulder and grabbing his staff by the mid section. He began making his way to the door.
He stopped, and turned around, watching Yugi pack the kit back away and into the desk drawer before beginning to open the windows. The sun had already begun to set.
"Yugi-Sensei?" He began, unsure as to what to say next.
Looking over his shoulder, hands resting on the now open windows sill, the teacher hummed questioningly.
"Uh... Thank you, or whatever..." scratching his cheek lightly, he felt his face flush from embarrassment.
"No problem, boy!" He grinned back.
Shutting the door quietly, he smiled lightly as he traversed the empty halls, feeling the reassuring pressure of the freshly applied bandages. Perhaps Yugi wasn't that bad at all? Perhaps he was just weird and not a supernatural.
He was in the school yard when he realized the man had directly referenced his staff as the cause for his injury.
He stood ramrod straight, face flubbering, eyes wide as he spun to stare back at the school incredulously.
You have got to be kidding me!
Made it to the Happy Ending
And finally, this is day 7 of @deathshippingweek, free day! A fluffy little years post-canon thing, where they reflect on what might have been and what ended up happening. Comments in tags or replies or reblogs are really appreciated! Thank you so much to everyone for participating, I’ve loved seeing everything!
Kek was chewing on a Kit-Kat and sketching when Ryou plopped on the couch down next to him. He was still in his work clothes from the museum, bits of paint from making the models for the displays splattered down his pants.
“What’re you drawing?”
Kek angled the sketchpad away from Ryou, swallowing the candy. “Nope.”
“Aw, come on.” Ryou tried to crane his neck, but Kek flipped the page. “Genuine surprise or just teasing?”
“Why don’t you try to find out?” Kek raised an eyebrow as well as the pad above his head, and Ryou grinned, crawling into Kek’s lap. He strained to reach up, Kek’s arms too long, but being on his lap had an advantage- he managed to grab on to the edge of the binding and curled his finger into it, tugging it down. Kek snatched it back, but after flipping to the right page, he held it out for Ryou to see. Ryou squinted at the page.
“Okay, that one is clearly you, but is that…?”
“I was just thinking, the other day.” Kek’s fingers tightened a bit around the pages, and Ryou waited patiently. “About… everything. It’s been… eight years, right?”
“Since what, Battle City?”
Kek nodded. “I never really met you there. Malik met you a little bit, but-”
“That doesn’t really count.” Ryou said. “I didn’t even really know who he was until I woke up after the finals and he was ‘all better’.”
Kek fiddled with one of his fidget rings, hearing the tiny gears inside click. “Anyways, I was just… wondering, what it would have been like if we’d met then.”
“Probably nothing good. You weren’t well, and the Ring spirit had a pretty good grip on me. Plus, by the time you were out, I would have been in the hospital or in desperate need of it anyways, what with this.” He gestured to the fading scar on his upper arm.
“I guess.” Kek said, turning the pad back to his chest, but Ryou stopped him.
“What made you think about that?” From the way the lights wavered in his eyes, Ryou could tell this was important.
“You know the other day, when I made breakfast?”
“Mhm? Thanks again for that, you make the best pancakes.”
“I just realized… we’ve really come a long way.” He turned the page out again, and Ryou looked closer at it. Kek had drawn his past self with black holes for eyes and sharp teeth, hair like daggers and with a cape shredded at the ends. Meanwhile, past Ryou was deathly thin, with woozy spirals for eyes and blood dripping from his arm, the Ring taking up half his torso.
“We were kids who’d been through a lot of shit,” Ryou said, setting a hand on on Kek’s arm. “It’s better we met how we did, after everything was over.”
“Probably.” Kek said, rubbing his thumb over past Ryou. “Still. Maybe you could have worked your magic and tamed me earlier, saved everyone a lot of trouble.”
“Including you. If I’d had the chance and known it would end with this, I would have done it in a heartbeat.” Ryou said with a smile.
“I wanted the world, but I got you. I think that’s more than fair.” Kek set the pad aside and squeezed Ryou. “Plus there’s more of you to like now.” He patted the side of Ryou’s stomach, getting a flush.
“Hey, more of you too, now that you’re eating like a normal person.” Ryou said, starting to tickle Kek right where he knew he was vulnerable and getting a sharp snicker.
“Don’t you dare!”
“I always play dirty, you know that.” Ryou grinned, moving his fingers down to tease at Kek’s midsection, feeling as much as hearing the short bursts of laughter.
“I take it back, you could have been my- pffft- my minion of evil.”
“That’s better.” Ryou gave one last teasing poke before backing off.
“Oh, no, don’t think you’re getting off that easy.” Kek started tickling Ryou back, smirking at the peal of giggles as he found the best spot. Seeing Ryou flushed, no matter how it happened, always made his heart flip.
At least until Ryou grabbed a pillow and stuffed it over his face.
“Hey, you started toying with me first!” Ryou said, rolling off him..
“It was a compliment, you’re much better to hug now.” Kek said, banishing the pillow to the other end of the couch. They’d both softened up over the years, and Kek especially loved how nice it felt to curl against Ryou in bed.
“Fine, you’re forgiven- if you add something to that drawing.” Ryou said. Kek blinked.
“Sure, what?”
“An after to the before.” Ryou said. “It’s just kind of depressing, even though we did get to the happy ending.”
Kek tugged Ryou back unto his lap, picking a piece of lint out of his hair. “I’ll think about it.”
A few days later, Ryou found the paper pinned to the fridge under a Kuriboh magnet that had been a gift from Yugi, with an addition on the lower half of the page. It was Ryou in his favorite sweater and Kek in his favorite tank top holding hands, a little taller and with big smiles on their faces.
Yugioh S3 Ep 11 pt 1: Mokuba Gets Kidnapped (Again)
I miiiight have to split this one in two?
A lot happens this episode, and when I cap things it’s mostly to help summarize what’s going on so these posts won’t be so freakin long but visually--a LOT happens this episode. So...there’s a few caps.
Anyways, I’m still trying to not think too much about what it is that Tristan has turned into. Considering that apparently you can exist here without a body it makes you wonder if their own minds are here at all or if we’re just following some shadow selves but again, it’s--that’s way too deep for Yugioh.
Been joking about the team getting turned into Heartless for a whole season and it actually happened. Sort of. Being turned into a monkey isn’t exactly the same as being turned into Darkness but if Yugi, Bakura, and Marik are any indication, being turned into Darkness on this show just means your hair gets kinda big and sometimes you almost (and often do) kill people.
Tristan’s CGI body is now running around and I’m not sure how that works.
Like if Tristan’s ACTUAL body is being stored somewhere, then the CGI body should have vanished, right? Like, his CGI body got incinerated by lava? Anyway, apparently, his body is absolutely fine, and now it’s being controlled by Nezbitt.
I’m glad he found the Kaibas at their familiar territory. Yes, that’s right, they all met up again, reunited after 10 episodes at their favorite place in the whole world. Guess where? Guess where they are?
It’s like meeting at the Cinnabon at the mall. They just all know where to go.
(read more under the cut)
And then Kaiba just kind of acts like he’s been expecting this for years. I mean...there’s reasons to expect that.
TBH if Tristan nabbed Kaiba in the shoulder with that broomstick, Would Kaiba even be able to feel it with all that padding? He’s got like football gear for shoulder pads up there.
We get no explanation of how Blue Eyes Wife made it to the VR zone. Probably willed itself out of pure love or whatever. But, don’t worry, Seto will have to choose cards from a pool just like everyone else at the end of this episode so uh...that’s about all we’ll see from her. Unless she was also in the pool, but I kinda doubt Noah gave Seto a Blue Eyes.
Just so weird that in the same episode she’s clearly here, but in 10 minutes from now, she’s not.
Anyways, everyone else finally shows up and they don't seem to be confused as to how Tristan is just fine when they just saw him die like...just now. They just left the place Tristan was dead and incinerated by 600000 degrees of lava and they were like “Oh good! We found him immediately! Hallelujah!” as if this isn’t very weird.
And...in a past life, Kaiba was the head of the House of York or...something? Like he was in the War of Roses or something? I forget exactly what y’all were saying Kaiba was up to in a past life in some video game spinoff when he and Yugi were European 500 years ago. Their family bloodline really got around.
ALSO, thing I just realized now I’ve actually read the wikipedia, Kaiba is supposed to have been Christian Rosenkruez in this game, which is amazing. Because, if you thought the Kaiba timeline was effed up before, just you wait, because Christian Rosenkruez was a freakin nut. We’re talking Indiana Jones type of nut. I’m pretty sure the game never brings this up, but Christian Rosenkruez is famous because so many people thought that he was the reincarnation of Lazarus.
LAZARUS.
Sorry, I’m like...kinda cracking up as I’m typing this. For those who don’t know your Christian/Middle Ages art, Lazarus is this guy, seen on the right. He’s always wrapped up like a mummy and with this expression like “woah, Jo, I’m alive!? Nice!” as at least one guy in the foreground plugs their nose because he smells like so freakin bad.
Yeah. So now, canonically, a past self of Seto Kaiba swore that he was once Lazurus. Who is...a real freakin nice guy, actually. Which--and this is my favorite part--this means that Lazarus--a real guy from the Bible--was also soul married to a Blue Eyes White Dragon. Hot damn.
I mean, this is a mess, but aesthetically though--Lazarus was a dead guy right? Like a revived mystical dead guy? Wrapped up like a mummy? In a crypt? If you don’t know too much about Christianity, it kinda fits right in with our whole vibe.
And if art twitter is anything to go by, the original fanart was bible stuff anyway, so anime and Bible stuff are absolutely and always interchangeable.
(Sorry, I was about to derail on another art rant hoo boy, a rant within a rant. You know, I hide a LOT of art discourse in these posts. Spicy times. Thanks for bearing with me, I’ve been holding that one in for a WHILE.)
But this is mostly amazing because, completely unintentionally, that means Seto Kaiba’s bloodline met freakin Jesus, y’all.
In fact, lets go over it, so Kaiba’s bloodline was Egyptian wizards who killed Pharaoh Yami (who ends up being Yugi’s bloodline), kinda forgot they were royalty or magical, went up to Jerusalem for a spell, hung out with Jesus and got helllla Christian, then ended up in Germany, fought Yugi who was British royalty for a hot minute, buried Rosenkrueuz in a very weird and mystical spooky sarcophagus, and then both families forgot they were super special royalty and somehow ended up in Japan where Kaiba got orphaned with no knowledge of any of this and got adopted by a crazy Gozaboro Kaiba who is now trying to kill them all with a VR game.
Anyway, if a past version of himself was in the War of Roses, dueling with actual swords should come naturally to him. Or at least would have come naturally if Tristan wasn’t so good with brooms.
(Bro’s Spicy Headcanon: Tristans wooden stick was originally a sword but they edited it out in development. Sure Wtv.)
And surprisingly, Joey got to do a hit in this version of Yugioh--like actually kicked a guy. On screen. And it was Tristan. Wow. Really thought that would get edited out, and I’m glad they left it in because lol this whole sequence is a mess.
Anyway, Tea gets hella mad at Joey because they don’t want him to kill Tristan although this body was in fact incinerated at the bottom of a lava pool not ten minutes ago, and so she decides to go after Tristan herself? Because she figures that Tristan’s body will not attack her? Maybe because Tristan’s body would be too afraid to attack Tea.
And this is Tea, so she is used to people going ghost, getting cray, and then passing out ten minutes later and being like “Oi, love! I seem to have made quite a fuss, again, innut!”
Please look at the bottom of this cap and admire that Joey kicked Tristan so hard, that his body bent a metal door completely the other way around.
That’s right, the motorcycle license is back, and now it gets to serve a purpose!
Guys, when they revealed that Tristan could drive a motorcycle I did not think that later this ability would be yet another insane way to abduct Mokuba.
Lol what?
Moki just...hanging off the side there. Like...he’s not even strapped in. What is it with the kidnappers in this show having just no idea how to properly hold Mokuba? At least this time he isn’t being suspended from a helicopter but it’s still kind of of a lot?
And there goes Kaiba.
They reunite again for like...2 minutes after like 10 episodes and then bam, Kaiba is signing out immediately.
Unfortunately, there goes the only two people here that know how to drive motorcycles, so the rest of our team is just kinda stuck back here with Tristan in a monkey suit.
Because of perspective issues, Serenity appears to be like 2 feet taller than Yugi Muto, dang.
So I think I mentioned before that one of the reasons I was like “Yeah lets watch this show” is because someone tweeted that Yugioh had motorcycle dueling, and so when this happened I was like OMG they’re actually going to do it somehow, right now on this Sonic Adventure Highway. Finally! A motorcycle duel! I thought that was only in the spinoff I’m not going to watch!
I mean look at him go.
JK no motorcycle dueling in this series. My poor hopes. Dashed.
And he runs right into Kaiba’s coat from last season who is wearing just the thickest old timey Southern accent. Ah, I miss when his coat color was nearly his font color and it all made sense.
Bro pointed out that the best part of this scene is how small the motorcycle was compared to how big this fire is now. Like...they should just be able to walk around the fire at this point, right? Like it’s a highway with multiple lanes? What was even in this motorcycle? Nitro?
Anyway, this post will be very long if I don’t chop it in half, so get ready for next time, when we find out what this guy and his accent’s whole deal is. How many references will he make to grits and warm summer evenings? A lot, right? Like a lot?
Anyways, if you just got here, this is a link to read the recaps from Ep 1 S1
