@deathshippingweek day 1: Past/Future. I kind of played off both. I wanted to show how lonely and incomplete they were before and how happy they were after getting together because they're so darn cute!

Lost Boys
I actually made this like a month ago and just queued it up for today, heh. For @deathshippingweek day 1: Past! Comments are super appreciated!
Summary: A little AU if Ymalik had gotten the chance to sneak outside once, and it was just the day before Ryou and his father met Shadi and the Ring…

Bright, bright, bright. Everything was bright. His eyes hurt, the sun hurt, and the sand was so warm it hurt, but it was a good hurt.
He liked this hurt because it was something new, something he had for himself, a little piece of life to hold inside when he was nothing but smoke and darkness.
He’d snuck out when they were attending to father. He was sick. Good. Father was bad. No one saw that but him, not even Himself. But it was his time now, He’d been so scared something would happen to father that He’d curled up and disappeared and taken up the space that was normally his, and no one had stopped him from crawling up the stairs.
The market was loud and everywhere and people kept touching him and it was strange and too much and not enough and everything all at once. He wanted to use the piece of sharp stone he’d tucked into his robes on the next person to touch him, he’d never- it was just-
“He-llo?” The voice struck him because it didn’t have the easy quick-paced cadence of everyone else. It was accented, differently from the tombkeepers but also from the way the other people he was hearing were. He turned to see a child about his age- 11, 12? 11 and a half-  who had skin like milk and hair like bone. They were flushed with burn or fever or something. They looked unhealthy- no one should be that pale outside of their skeleton, like they were inside out.
“Who are you?” He walked up to the child- they were near the same height too.
“My name… Ryou.” It seemed to be a boy. His Arabic was twisted, chunky and foreign in his mouth. “Find my father?” Ryou’s expression was twisted in worry. He felt a sudden urge to pinch at the other boy’s cheeks, still plump with youth. The pink tinge made him think they’d be warm under his fingers.
“Your father?”
“Um…” Ryou tried to think of the words. “Lost. Temple?”
He didn’t know the surface any better than Ryou did, but he’d heard the bells as they called for prayer from the sky-hole and could know at least what direction to go. He grabbed Ryou’s hand (warm skin, soft and squishy and made his heart jump at touching something that wasn’t his own clothes, his own hair, that was another human being that existed) and tugged him through the crowd that was making his skin crawl. Ryou was an anchor, and he gripped the hand like leather he could wring when his energy spilled over and he wanted to claw at his arms to feel alive in the hours of existence he managed to steal.
“Have you seen my son? I swear, I turned my head for just a second-” A voice rose above the marketplace chatter, and Ryou perked up.
“Papa!” A man with the same strange skin as Ryou emerged from the crowd, and Ryou immediately let go, rushing towards him. He was scooped up into a hug, and their language shifted to something he couldn’t place anymore.
He watched, chest like lead as he saw Ryou’s father hold him close and brush through his hair, tone stern but loving even though the exact words were lost.
Ryou pointed at him with a smile, chattering away, and Ryou’s father set Ryou down before kneeling in front of him.
“Thank you for helping my son. Would you like me to buy you something as a token of my gratitude?”
He stared. Someone… thanked him for something?
He just nodded mutely, and a few minutes later, he had a piece of bread held firmly in his fingers. Ryou waved at him, holding his father’s hand as he walked away, and he clutched the bread to his chest like it was made of gold.
A week later, Isis found it in Malik’s box of favorite things, next to the rock that looked like a ring and the dead flower that had fallen down from the surface. No one knew how it had gotten there.

@deathshippingweek Day three, horror! I think Mariku would go out of his way to scare Ryou, what with his love of horror, and cheesy horror cliches like this.

Deathshipping Week, Day 3 - Fantasy and Fiction, Supernatural and Horror -- @deathshippingweek
AAAAAAAAAA THIS TOOK ME THE ENTIRE DAY TO FINISH!!!! I drew inspiration from the works of horror artist Junji Ito for this! Unfortunately for me, that meant putting in a lot of detail... Woof. But, I like how it came out!
Kim Petra’s TURN OFF THE LIGHTS album really help to motivate me to keep working on this, it’s horror-themed and awesome. :)
... I don’t think this is Ryou’s idea of a hot date. :(

Hey, everyone! In case you don’t know, Deathshipping is the ship of Ryou Bakura and Yami Malik/Yami Marik from Yugioh Duel Monsters! Each day has multiple themes, so you can pick your favorite. Loose interpretations encouraged as long as you’re having fun. Please reblog this to spread the word!
Don’t worry about trying to hit every day- if you can, great! If you can’t, one or two days are fine- you made something new, and that’s awesome! All kinds of content are welcome- fics, art, amvs, cosplay pictures, and aesthetic boards/collages. Whatever you’re inspired for! Just tag the blog with @deathshippingweek, and I’ll reblog it! If I miss any, feel free to DM me.
DATES: July 26th-August 1st, but I’ll keep reblogging stuff tagged with this blog as long after as you keep making it!
List of Days
Day 1: Light / Darkness
Day 2: Win / Lose and Game
Day 3: Fantasy / Fiction and Supernatural / Horror
Day 4: Favorite Episode / Chapter and Favorite Fan-Content*
Day 5: Tradition / New
Day 6: AU / Crossover
Day 7: Free Day
*The idea with this one is to pick something that was created by someone else and create art/fic of your own for it, to show the person how much you like it! With episode/chapter, I know they never really interacted in canon, so be creative! How would that part be different if they did?

Deathshipping Week - Day 1!
@deathshippingweek is here! Be excited! (And frantically start scribbling down the rest of the prompts, if you’re me. lol!)
Like last year, I’ve written a set of bite-sized ficlets for all to enjoy. :D Here we go!
Day 1: Light/Shadows
Length: short (400ish), below the cut or here on A03 YM name-of-the-day: He doesn't even have one yet. :o Tags: Pining, Ryou POV, Ryou's got it bad
*******
He was gorgeous.
The man that had unexpectedly popped out of the shadows behind the spirits of the items had been a sight to behold. Ryou had heard stories, of course, but to actually see him in the flesh – amazing. Enthralling. He really didn’t understand what others saw in him when they shrank away from his smiles and his laughter and his dramatic movements. They called it ‘maniacal’ or ‘creepy’. Ryou called it breath-taking.
Marik’s other half suited the bright light of midday. He was radiant in the sun, soaking in the newfound freedom of the wide world and a vessel of his own to explore it. His golden hair practically sparkled, and Ryou was fascinated at its weightlessness. He wanted to reach out and feel its texture, but wasn’t sure how the man would react. He was still skittish around others, damn it all. But sometimes, when the sun was high and the sky was clear, Ryou would catch him looking upwards with the tiniest of gentle smiles, and it was all Ryou could do not to reach out and try to share the wonder in his eyes. His innards did all kinds of improbable things whenever he spotted that tiny, happy smile.
Yes, the ‘other’ Marik was well suited to shining in the sun.
But at night…
Oh, in the darkness is when he came alive. It was still his element, even if his nature had been tamed and tempered with the ebbing of the rage that drove him those first and darkest days. His wide grin still shone, Cheshire-like, even on the darkest nights. The others hated it, but it sent a delightful thrill along Ryou’s spine every time he saw it. Never had he seen someone so perfectly suited to live in the shadows, to meld to them and breath them in. Even Bakura didn’t find them a home the way Marik’s other half seemed to. Bakura used them out of necessity. This other Marik played in them for the sheer joy of it in a way that Ryou still only aspired to. And while the man eagerly accepted new experiences in the sun, he seemed positively driven to find new ways to exist in the dark.
And if Marik’s darker half was looking for new experiences, then Ryou was going to be damn sure he was going to one of them.

@deathshippingweek Day 7: Free Day!
I made this a long time ago right before Tumblr got rid of naughties. I found it a few days ago and heavily edited it so that it is safe for eyes. Who doesn't like the idea of forbidden love?

Made it to the Happy Ending
And finally, this is day 7 of @deathshippingweek, free day! A fluffy little years post-canon thing, where they reflect on what might have been and what ended up happening. Comments in tags or replies or reblogs are really appreciated! Thank you so much to everyone for participating, I’ve loved seeing everything!

Kek was chewing on a Kit-Kat and sketching when Ryou plopped on the couch down next to him. He was still in his work clothes from the museum, bits of paint from making the models for the displays splattered down his pants.
“What’re you drawing?”
Kek angled the sketchpad away from Ryou, swallowing the candy. “Nope.”
“Aw, come on.” Ryou tried to crane his neck, but Kek flipped the page. “Genuine surprise or just teasing?”
“Why don’t you try to find out?” Kek raised an eyebrow as well as the pad above his head, and Ryou grinned, crawling into Kek’s lap. He strained to reach up, Kek’s arms too long, but being on his lap had an advantage- he managed to grab on to the edge of the binding and curled his finger into it, tugging it down. Kek snatched it back, but after flipping to the right page, he held it out for Ryou to see. Ryou squinted at the page.
“Okay, that one is clearly you, but is that…?”
“I was just thinking, the other day.” Kek’s fingers tightened a bit around the pages, and Ryou waited patiently. “About… everything. It’s been… eight years, right?”
“Since what, Battle City?”
Kek nodded. “I never really met you there. Malik met you a little bit, but-”
“That doesn’t really count.” Ryou said. “I didn’t even really know who he was until I woke up after the finals and he was ‘all better’.”
Kek fiddled with one of his fidget rings, hearing the tiny gears inside click. “Anyways, I was just… wondering, what it would have been like if we’d met then.”
“Probably nothing good. You weren’t well, and the Ring spirit had a pretty good grip on me. Plus, by the time you were out, I would have been in the hospital or in desperate need of it anyways, what with this.” He gestured to the fading scar on his upper arm.
“I guess.” Kek said, turning the pad back to his chest, but Ryou stopped him.
“What made you think about that?” From the way the lights wavered in his eyes, Ryou could tell this was important.
“You know the other day, when I made breakfast?”
“Mhm? Thanks again for that, you make the best pancakes.”
“I just realized… we’ve really come a long way.” He turned the page out again, and Ryou looked closer at it. Kek had drawn his past self with black holes for eyes and sharp teeth, hair like daggers and with a cape shredded at the ends. Meanwhile, past Ryou was deathly thin, with woozy spirals for eyes and blood dripping from his arm, the Ring taking up half his torso.
“We were kids who’d been through a lot of shit,” Ryou said, setting a hand on on Kek’s arm. “It’s better we met how we did, after everything was over.”
“Probably.” Kek said, rubbing his thumb over past Ryou. “Still. Maybe you could have worked your magic and tamed me earlier, saved everyone a lot of trouble.”
“Including you. If I’d had the chance and known it would end with this, I would have done it in a heartbeat.” Ryou said with a smile.
“I wanted the world, but I got you. I think that’s more than fair.” Kek set the pad aside and squeezed Ryou. “Plus there’s more of you to like now.” He patted the side of Ryou’s stomach, getting a flush.
“Hey, more of you too, now that you’re eating like a normal person.” Ryou said, starting to tickle Kek right where he knew he was vulnerable and getting a sharp snicker.
“Don’t you dare!”
“I always play dirty, you know that.” Ryou grinned, moving his fingers down to tease at Kek’s midsection, feeling as much as hearing the short bursts of laughter.
“I take it back, you could have been my- pffft- my minion of evil.”
“That’s better.” Ryou gave one last teasing poke before backing off.
“Oh, no, don’t think you’re getting off that easy.” Kek started tickling Ryou back, smirking at the peal of giggles as he found the best spot. Seeing Ryou flushed, no matter how it happened, always made his heart flip.
At least until Ryou grabbed a pillow and stuffed it over his face.
“Hey, you started toying with me first!” Ryou said, rolling off him..
“It was a compliment, you’re much better to hug now.” Kek said, banishing the pillow to the other end of the couch. They’d both softened up over the years, and Kek especially loved how nice it felt to curl against Ryou in bed.
“Fine, you’re forgiven- if you add something to that drawing.” Ryou said. Kek blinked.
“Sure, what?”
“An after to the before.” Ryou said. “It’s just kind of depressing, even though we did get to the happy ending.”
Kek tugged Ryou back unto his lap, picking a piece of lint out of his hair. “I’ll think about it.”
A few days later, Ryou found the paper pinned to the fridge under a Kuriboh magnet that had been a gift from Yugi, with an addition on the lower half of the page. It was Ryou in his favorite sweater and Kek in his favorite tank top holding hands, a little taller and with big smiles on their faces.
