Warbringer - Scorched Earth

I've said I wish blizzard gave the night elves (all races with glowing eyes, really) visible irises and pupils because it allows for more expressiveness in the face, and so on. But I just realized they might have actually attempted to? Either that or their gradient tool didn't gradient enough.

Cause there is definitely a separation between white and lighter blue and darker blue.

And the colors match up at least somewhat with the depiction in Warbringers: Sylvanas (scleras being a dark blue)

idk I forget when the most recent model update was so that may be entirely coincidental 💀

In any case if that IS what they were going for, they made the pupils way too big for my liking. It's a cat-about-to-pounce type look

and now I can never zoom in too close to my characters' faces ever again (/lh)

Wonder Woman: Warbringer: Review.

So, this was based on a novel. That’s pretty cool.

This story is based on the expected origins of Diana. She goes to Man’s World after a frightening vision from an oracle (not that oracle, I mean the Greek kind of Oracle. Prophetess.)

Even if the basic pitch of the story might sound a bit by the numbers, I enjoyed it as a quick read.

Stranger in a New Land: (Diana’s characterisation.)

Diana in this story is eager to prove herself as a warrior, and in this story we get the little nugget that she’s not universally loved as the first daughter of Themyscira. She wasn’t reborn as an Amazon like the others, which earns her a few side

While I prefer the idea of Diana having a close to idyllic life before choosing to leave to Man’s World, this is a clever bit of world building. Not every Amazonian is going to be a carbon copy of one another.

Wonderful Work: (Positives)

The art here is very well done. I enjoy the concept of the Warbringer, and Alia and Diana's friendship is believable. It was reading this comic that prompted my post about Diana having a female guide when going to Man's World for the first time.

Determined but still learning: (Negatives.)

I'm going to be entirely honest, I can't think of a lot of negatives in this run. I do have one middling gripe, that being the ending. Returning to Themyscira, Diana's secret absence is kept a secret from all the Amazons, and while I like that, I think I would've instead had a scene where Diana visits her mother, hugs and says something like "I have something to tell you."

A good beginning: (Conclusion.)

Warbringer is an origin story for Wonder Woman. That might seem obvious but it’s really what you need to keep in mind as you read. We get the beats: Diana confused by this new world, missing home, divine intervention, and copious amounts of female bonding.

Should you read this? I think so. I wouldn’t put it on a must read list, but if you’re looking for a good WW origin, I’d say you can give it a shot.

Rating: 8/10.
