According to various "doubloons to USD" calculators: 50,000 doubloons is worth somewhere between $5 and $50 today. That's not life changing. Let's go deeper!

Each Spanish doubloon contained 6.766 grams of 22-carat gold (per Wikipedia)

Multiplied by 50,000, that's 338,300 grams of gold, nearly 750 pounds

The price of 22-carat gold today is $76 per gram

The big bag of money was worth $25,710,800.
