still working on cleaning up that meta on calico jack someone asked for but i'm gonna toss out a bit that i don't think will fit into it but is always interesting to me when people talk about jack and izzy and how similar or different their roles are in ed's life:

ed clearly desperately wants jack and stede to like each other. he spends most of 1x08 trying to get them to like each other. but he absolutely does not give a shit that stede and izzy hate each other's guts throughout season 1. they each insult the other to ed's face. izzy hates stede enough to attempt to murder him in front of ed multiple times and ed obviously cares about making sure stede does not get murdered but he never shows any sign of wanting izzy to start liking or even stop hating stede, and there's even less sign he ever thinks about stede's opinion of izzy at all. he cares so little about this that even when izzy and stede do start getting along - and ed must know about it, at the very least izzy makes it clear to ed that he ships gentlebeard now - we never see him react to this in any way whatsoever. there's probably more than one possible interpretation you could come up with for what this says about ed's relationship with jack vs his relationship with izzy but it is an enormous and obvious difference
