A strike by the International Longshoremen’s Association that briefly shut down ports on the East Cost and Gulf ended in a tentative deal. Both sides thanked Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for helping push the deal through. President Biden and Vice-President Harris had expressed solidarity with the works when the strike was announced and President Biden directed Secretary Buttigieg to take the lead in pressuring management to make a deal with the Longshoremen. The ILA got a 62% raise as part of the agreement.

Vice President Harris announced new actions to help those struggling with medical debt. This actions include new standards from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on debt collection. the CFPB plans on requiring debt collectors to confirm debts are valid and accurate before engaging in collection actions. As well as cracking down on debt collectors that collect on debt that is not owed by patients. Other actions included an announcement by the DoD that it was reducing pricing for civilians who get medical treatment at DoD hospitals and a track down on tax-exempt hospitals who are required by law to offer financial assistance but often do not. These steps come after Vice President Harris in June announced plans to remove medical debt from credit scores. Following the Vice President's call to action North Carolina moved forward a plan to eliminate medical debt for 2 million people in the state. President Biden's American Rescue Plan funds have been used by state and local Democrats to eliminate $7 billion dollars in medical debt.

The Department of Transportation announced $62 Billion in infrastructure funding for 2025. Thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed by President Biden this will be $18 billion dollars more than was spent in 2021. The Biden-Harris Admin has helped support over 60,000 infrastructure projects across all 50 states, rebuilding roads and bridges, breaking ground on America's first high speed rail, updating ports and airports, and breaking high speed internet to rural communities.

The Department of Transportation announced $1 Billion dollars of investment in America's passenger rail future. This comes on top of $8.2 billion in investments announced in December 2023. The funds will help expand and modernize intercity passenger rail nationwide.

The Departments of Energy and Agriculture announced a $2.8 billion joint project to bring 100% carbon pollution-free energy to the rural midwest. The DoE is investing $1.5 billion into helping bring the Palisades Nuclear Plant in Michigan back on-line. Shut down in 2022 plans to refit and reopen it to allow the plant to keep generating clean energy till 2051. Once back online the Palisades Nuclear Plant will help stop an anticipated 4.47 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions a year, or 111 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions over its lifetime. The USDA is investing $1.3 billion in two rural electric cooperatives, Wolverine Power Cooperative and Hoosier Energy, which cover rural communities in Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana. This investment will help Wolverine and Hoosier connect to the Palisades Plant, reduce prices for customers, and reduce climate pollution, putting Wolverine Power on the path to be 100 percent carbon-free energy before 2030.

The Treasury and the IRS announced that 30 million Americans, across 24 states will qualify for free direct filing of their taxes in 2025. The IRS says that the average American spends $270 dollars and 13 hours filing their taxes. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, passed by President Biden with Vice President Harris' tie breaking vote, Americans will be able to file their taxes quickly and for free directly with the IRS. Tax payers in Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming will in 2025 be able to use direct file.

The USDA announced $7.7 billion in funding for Climate-Smart Practices on Agricultural Lands. This represents the single biggest investment in these programs in USDA history. Since implementation began in 2023 this conservation assistance has helped over 28,500 farmers and ranchers apply conservation to 361 million acres of land.

The Department of Energy announced $1.5 billion in investments in transmission infrastructure to help ensure our grid is reliable and resilient. This will help support nearly 1,000 miles of new transmission lines across Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. These lines will bring 7,100 MW of new capacity and create 9,000 good paying union jobs. Studies find to keep up with growth and meet our climate goals of carbon free energy the US will need to triple the 2020 transmission capacity by 2050. This is an important step to meeting that goal.

Rin likes your affection, but he doesn't show it. Okay, he may return it, but way more silently than you. He would brush his knee against yours when you are sitting, walk you from the paparazzi by putting his hand on your back, give you his water bottle to drink. He, most of the time, acts annoyed when you show too much affection, or when you ask to kiss him in public he'll say no, hoping you would ask again. In public tho, he would react a lot. Especially with the paparazzi around you. Overall, you are definitely the more affectionate one and he acts annoyed on it, but don't worry, he appreciates it a lot <33

Reo Mikage

Reo falls in love with you again everytime you show his affection to him in public. He is also most likely more affectionate than you, doesn't matter if in public or private. He'll jump on you the moment he sees you. He really loves your affection tho, especially if you aren't the one to show it a lot. Here, you'll have to be the one to return his. Nagi is telling you that you are gross, while you are wrapped around Reo. To the paparazzi? Oh ho. He's showing off, he is not hiding. Of course, if you feel uncomfortable with that, tell him. The last thing he wants is for you to be uncomfortable.

Bachira... We'll he's Bachira. If he doesn't return your affection, there is not a person who would. Keeping that in mind, you two don't leave each others sides. Like two puppies in love (it kind of is). He will shower you with affection three times bigger than yours, but it was your fault for kissing him on the face. He isn't trying to purposely show you off in public, but he does in unintentionally! Or he is just all over you and people already know. If you don't return his affection, he will think you're mad at him :( please tell him that's not true

Now this pretty princess, looooooves the attention you're giving him, like genuinely loves it. ESPECIALLY if you two are in public, because he can show how much his partner loves him!! ⋆ You were having fun spending time with Cater's tsum, going to different places for photo shoots. The tsum seemed to know the best spots, the backgrounds of your photos looking stunning as the two of you posed. The lighting was always perfect, with some filters added to really make it pop. The tsum would immediately post it to Magicam, along with a bunch of heart emojis.

⋆ Cater was alright with the attention his tsum was getting...at first. But with every new picture added to Magicam, he couldn't help how his jealousy grew, clutching his phone in his hand. When he sees your latest photo, a picture of you pressing a kiss to his tsum's cheek near a popular date spot, he decides to meet up with you, trying to be subtle as he attempts to separate you.

"Hey hey, Name! I need Cay-tsum back for a bit. Hope you don't mind~!"

⋆ He gives his tsum a look as he reaches for him, the tsum giving him a look right back as he slaps his hand away. It took Cater by surprise, his eyes widening as he watches his tsum snuggle into your arms. After a moment, his eyes narrowed, refusing to back down.

⋆ He moves until he's behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you into a hug. Your back is against his chest as he rests his head on your shoulder, giving his tsum a look as if to say, 'They may be holding you, but I'm the only one who gets to hold them' He takes his phone out, capturing a selfie that conveniently has his tsum out of the shot ♡

⋆ There was a game Ruggie's tsum enjoys playing with you, one that took you a while to realize. His tsum had a love of Thaumarks and Madol, a hard worker looking for any job he could get, just like his counterpart. When it comes to you though, he was a cute little thief, taking anything of yours and waiting for you to chase after him. Once you caught him, he would refuse to give it back until you gave him a kiss, moving on to take something else.

⋆ Since Ruggie was busy with his odd jobs, he hadn't noticed how close you and his tsum had gotten, his eyes widening in surprise when he sees you chase him in the courtyard. His tsum held your phone as you grabbed him, looking at him with affection as you shook your head fondly. You pressed a kiss to the tsum's forehead, his tiny tail wagging as he happily gives you your phone back.

⋆ Ruggie's eyes narrowed, watching as his tsum took something else from you, continuing your game. So, his tsum thinks he can try to take his money, and now his kisses too? Oh no, he can't let that happen, rushing to finish his work.

⋆ You were about to grab Ruggie's tsum before someone intervened, looking up to find the tsum squirming in Ruggie's hold. He laughs to himself, watching his tsum struggle as he takes back what was stolen from you. A smirk comes to his face as he acts coy, turning your item over in his hand.

"Oh, is this yours? Well, if you want it back, you'll have to pay my finder's fee"

⋆ He moves closer to you, leaning in to press his lips against yours. A smile comes to your face once you part, waiting for him to hand you your item. One of his eyebrows raise as he leans back in, laughing as your lips meet once more.

"I'm not as generous as my tsum, ya know. It'll cost you more than just one kiss if you want your stuff back, shishishi!" ♡

⋆ Kalim's tsum was such a joy to be around, a little ball of energy just like his counterpart. You couldn't help but think how cute he was as he bounced for your attention, ecstatic to see you. You played with him in Scarabia, doing your best to stay out of Jamil's way as he worked.

⋆ Some of the dorm members were listening to music in the main room, the tsum practically dragging you there as you laughed. He seemed interested in dancing, his little body moving to the beat. You watched him in amusement, the tsum pausing after a moment and holding his tiny arm out, silently asking you to join him. You did your best to hold your laughter, trying to imagine how you could even dance together considering your size difference. You shook your head as you declined his offer, thanking him and letting him know you were alright with just watching.

⋆ The tsum looked disappointed for a moment before perking back up, resuming where he left off in his dance. Soon, Kalim walked through the doorway, smiling brightly as he noticed you were there.

"Ah, Name! Here you are! I was looking all over for you, ahaha!"

⋆ He makes his way over to you, wrapping his arms around you in a warm embrace. You hold him back for a moment before he leans away, moving to give you a kiss. You blink in surprise as his tsum gets between you two, pressing his face against your lips. Kalim laughs, thinking it was cute that his tsum wanted a kiss from you too. He tries again, only for his tsum to block him once more, taking the kiss for himself.

⋆ Kalim pouts before trying again, only to be met with the same fate. Your body shakes as you laugh to yourself, Kalim continuing to pout as he looks towards his tsum.

"Hey, no fair! I want a kiss too!"

⋆ His tsum jumps up at his words, pressing his face against his cheek as if to kiss him. Kalim's pout changes to a small smile as he laughs, shaking his head.

"Not from you, from Name!"

⋆ The tsum looks at him in understanding, moving to sit on your shoulder. You look down at him before focusing back on Kalim, cupping one of his cheeks in your hand. He smiles before leaning in, his lips finally meeting yours. You don't mention how the tsum gave you a kiss as well, pressing his face against your cheek ♡

he once thought you weren't the most interested in school or academics in general like most people he met, but he was proven wrong when you two became seatmates–he realized you actually had an amazing grasp of the lessons and wasn't just another pretty face at school; you had a beautiful face and brain.

he goes to you for help when he struggles to understand the lesson, but he hardly understands when you explain it in the most 'you' way possible, which is kind of explained through more onomatopoeias, made-up words, and a lot of stuttering since you're unsure how to explain it but know it's done 😭😭😭

"what i just... slip you the answers during the quiz?" you offered with a bright smile as miles looked at you with a raised eyebrow. "that won't be necessary, you'll get in trouble." he said as he tried to process the notes he took down, but you slid him a piece of folded up paper and began humming to yourself as you looked away from him. he opened the paper, and there, it contained extensive notes you took and compiled; and the best part was, he understood most of it better. he looked at you as you looked back at him with a grin.

"that help comes at a cost though." you said slyly as you sat back in your chair. "okay, name your price." miles said as your stomach grumbled. "how about you treat me to lunch, that'd be a great and fair exchange." you said as you got off your seat as miles shrugged and followed you. "you sure just lunch will pay it all off, or..." "if you're willing to pay a higher price, what about you take me on a date after school?" you offered with a grin as miles got a bit taken aback by your request, though... he wasn't opposed.

when he sees you dozing off in class, he always tries to wake you before the teacher realizes or catches you sleeping, but you always get caught and wake up on time when the teacher calls on you. luckily, since all this comes easy to you, you didn't really have a problem answering the questions, you just needed the question repeated to you and you answer quickly.

miles......... has never met anyone as amazing as you, like getting out of a 5 minute nap and immediately having the braincells and energy to solve advanced physics and math problems? he's falling in love with you and being blown away by you every damn time.

if you begin to ramble to him on stuff related to what you guys are being taught, he'd listen to you, it might prove to be helpful in the long run. this was the instance where he discovered you were a complete and total nerd, and his dorky ass loved you all for it.

sometimes, you stare at miles' braids and just get so deep in thought about how nice his hair looks, what it looks like when it's undone, and if you could one day maybe braid his hair.

"what are you staring at...?" he asks you with an awkward voice as you continue staring at his braids. "pretty hair you got." you said as you kept staring at them. miles instinctively wrapped the end of it around his finger and shrugged. "it's not that good, it's... it's alright." "oh, now, don't be modest--it's beautiful." you beamed as you smiled at him and went back to the worksheets you were doing before your eyes landed on miles' braids. "...thanks." he murmured as he went back to his own worksheets, trying to hide the flustered expression he had on right now. he thought about your comment the whole day and was so elated about it internally.

he doesn't flex your beauty, wealth, athletic prowess or anything--he flexes how unique you are. he NEVER shuts up about you to ganke, like even if he doesn't sound so excited, ganke can tell you're all miles can think about.

miles loves how, despite being airheaded and a little bit dazed at times, you're so amazing and insightful, so helpful and smart that he looks up to you so much.

"ganke, i honestly don't know how they're so... cool, like--" miles went on and on as ganke 'listened' to him as he played video games. "no wonder you think they're out of your league." ganke quipped as miles looked at him with a slight pout. "well thanks for reminding me of the hard truth, not that i don't think about it..." miles murmured as he laid back on the bed. ganke shrugged. "if you're so adamant about knowing whether or not they'd like you, why don't you just up and tell them?" he suggested, which made miles perk up and accidentally hit his forehead on the bottom of the top bunk bed.

"ow, and, wait, that... i can't do that." miles said with a pained expression as ganke opened the ice box they had and threw him a plastic bottle to ease the swelling on his forehead. "hey, the worst they can say is 'no'." ganke said, deadpanned, as miles groaned. "i can think of worst things they could say..." miles muttered as he thought of what would happen if he were to admit his feelings towards you, feelings he can't even beging to name.

when he confessed to you, he was honestly struggling to word it out, and seeing you gaze into his eyes without knowing if you understood or even liked what he was saying killed him inside.

"so, i... i like you, okay?" he finally muttered, looking down at his shoes and back up at you, who still had the same, sleepy-dazed face as usual. miles bit the inside of his cheek and got all sheepish, thinking he was a fool for believing you could really like him back. "...i like you, too." you said with a big grin. miles' eyes widened as his mouth hung open for a second, and soon, he spoke. "r-really?" you nodded. "yeah, you're my buddy, buddies like each other, no?" you said with a sleepy voice as miles felt his whole world crumble. did he just get friendzoned?

miles shook his head. "i meant... romantically, there, romantically, i like you." he cleared up, hoping you understood what he meant. you clapped your hands together once as you finally realized what he meant. "ohhhhh, then i like you, too, still." you said as you grinned again, this time, with a sweeter warmth filling your smile and cheeks. miles blinked a few times and stuttered before he made out the words, "you're serious? you understood what i... meant though, right? for real this time...?" he tried making sure so as not to make a fool out of himself, but all the confirmation he needed was when you walked over and kissed his cheek. "i'm serious, miles." you said with a mischievous smirk and held his hand. you were always the bold type, and miles admired you for that; he just didn't realize how much he loved that bolder personality of yours. "a-awesome." miles murmured, trying not to show much of his excitement right now and play it cool.

you giggled and interlocked fingers with miles, which he was not expecting, but he didn't dare to pull away. "so... wanna get something to eat?" you offered miles as he nodded, squeezing your hand that was in his. "sure." he said as he felt even more flustered, like he was melting in your touch as you led him to a good restaurant you knew. not only did miles just get a partner, he's on his first date with them. man, did he love you and your airheaded, genius self <3

kaeya is a TEASE, still. he straight up never stops, even though you’ve been together for so long. He’ll do anything to make you blush and catch you off guard, for no reason other than he thinks its funny, yet adorable when you react to him. 

he loves to give massages. the intimacy of it all is so important and fulfilling to him (even though he has to keep an eye on his cryo powers the whole time to make sure his hands aren’t cold) (bless him, lil baby). sometimes if he’s doing this, he’ll give you little kisses all over, and talk about his day. other times he’ll tell you how much he loves certain parts of you, your tummy, thighs, or whatever else he’s feeling enamoured with at that particular time. other times, he’s completely silent, and just basks in the feeling of being able to be with you, soft breaths or sighs from both of you filling the air. 

at times, he can be a little overly protective of you, even if you yourself are well versed in battle. this man wants to make sure you’re safe at all costs, because he knows what it’s like to lose family. in a way, you’re most of what he has. he isn’t losing you. 

he has some weird/funny habits. poking your cheeks, accidentally staring at you, sticking his tongue out at you, or at times even gently biting you for giggles. he definitely has a playful side hidden underneath his suave façade, which only you can bring out. 

ajax always wants to keep your relationship fresh and exciting! he'll always have new date ideas, or make secret plans of where to go on your next vacation (which are revealed to you about five minutes before leaving). be it a new restaurant or a revisit of your favourite places, trust he will bring as much energy and passion as always. 

he's clingy as heck, always wants your attention and is a spam texter, one hundred percent. he has really high energy so he can sometimes take a lot of patience to deal with. defo gives you at least 10 good morning kisses before he leaves for work, and might even wake you up if you're asleep. don't punch him, he's just desperate for your (albeit sleepy) attention.

he’s learned a lot about how to navigate issues in your relationship over the span of it, and is still learning. because of his childhood he can sometimes not fully understand how you feel about certain things, but he loves you, and knows he can learn no matter how long it takes. as long as you’re willing to be patient with him, he will definitely put in all his effort for you.

if there’s one word to describe childe, its curious. he wants to know everything about what makes you tick, and this doesn’t stop even after you’re married. he can sometimes struggle to speak softly when you’re upset because he has a tendency to joke around about things quite a lot, but if you tell him that you need serious time, he will definitely provide it for you.

neuvillette definitely thrives on routine, he kisses you twice each morning. once on the forehead when you’ve both just woken up, and once on the lips before he leaves to begin his work as iudex. of course this also applies when he gets home,  but perhaps he’d rather keep those routines behind closed doors ;)

neuvillette can struggle a little sometimes, but he always tries his hardest to listen to what you said all those years ago; “i love you, if something’s wrong we’ll work through it”. when he has an issue he will first mull it over alone, before coming to you. 

he is an excellent comforter. although he doesn’t see it himself, he has an incredible ability to recognise each of the emotions displayed on your face. he knows if you’re thinking, its best to stay quiet and let you come to a conclusion before speaking any more. 

random one but he LOVES when you do his hair for him, it makes him feel so cared for and loved. he feels really relaxed when you massage his scalp for him. just gives that warm fuzzy feeling, y’know?

sometimes when you’re at home he’ll start following you around the house for no apparent reason. well, there is an apparent reason, he’ll just never admit to it- he wants a hug. you might go to your bedroom or the kitchen to look for something, and he’ll just be trailing behind, waiting for your attention. when you finally give in and wrap your arms around him, burying your head in his chest, he lets out a low, calming hum. he’s content.

It was on a lazy Friday evening in the botanical gardens when Yuu was approached by an energetic ball of energy, otherwise known as Kalim Al-Asim, and his childhood companion Jamil. Yuu looks up just as Kalim barrels into them with a hug. They laugh as Jamil begins to scold Kalim, reminding the latter to be aware of boundaries, something that is hardly in the young heir’s vocabulary.

“How can I help you, Kalim?” The prefect moves their homework to the side as they reciprocate the second year’s hug.

“We’re going on a trip!” he exclaims excitedly. Yuu tilts their head to the side.

“Oh? Well, congrats! I hope you have fun.”

“What are you talking about? You’re coming with us!”

‘… Huh?’

“Kalim,” Jamil’s voice sounds tired as he places a hand on his classmate’s shoulder. “You can’t just tell someone they’re going somewhere. You have to ask them first.”

“Oh, right! Well, Yuu, do you wanna come home with us?”

Jamil smacks a hand to his forehead as Yuu continues to become more and more confused. What does he mean, “come home with us”? Is Crowley kicking them out of the campus? Did Grim do something whilst with the Heartslabyul duo? Yuu thought they could trust those two, but maybe they were wrong.”

“It’s nothing like that,” Jamil explains with a tired sigh. “Kalim and I are heading back home, to the Scalding Sands, for the Yasamina River Fireworks Fest.”

“And since you’re from another world, I’d love to show you my hometown, Yuu!” Kalim adds with a beaming smile. “We got six VIP seats, so you and Grim can both tag along! Oh, maybe I should hit up the guys from my Pop Music club too!”

“Wait a minute, you are one of the organizers of the event, Kalim, and as your attendant, I will also be at your side. Inviting Grim and Yuu last minute is one thing, but adding even MORE people whilst we’re busy is too much.”

“It’ll be fine, Jamil! The more the merrier, as they say. Besides, They can take care of their own, right?” Kalim looks towards Yuu with shining, puppy-dog eyes.

“Um, sure.” they nod hesitantly. “But what about the cost? As you can probably guess, Crowley isn’t really on the generous side…”

“Well, the seats for the festival are covered by your tickets. The street food is pretty cheap though! Maybe you could ask the headmage to lend you some more money?”

“Eh, I doubt he’d agree. Grim is also a really big eater.”

Suddenly, a figure jumps down from the tree Yuu was leaning against. The Scarabia duo jumps in surprise, whilst the prefect merely smiled. The figure, ignoring his two underclassmen, ruffles Yuu’s head lightly before sitting down beside them. His long tail curls around Yuu’s wrist as he yawns.

“Hey, Leona-senpai!” Kalim’s the first to recover from the unexpected guest. “Can’t believe I didn’t notice you up in that tree.”

“‘Course you didn’t,” the beastman smirks. “An herbivore like you would never be able to detect a beastman like me.” The comment doesn’t hold much malice in it, if any, and Kalim continues as if nothing happened.

“Well, anyway, were you able to hear everything? Do you wanna come with us?”

“Kalim!”

“What? Leona-senpai is a classmate of ours! Besides, it would be rude not to invite him after hearing us invite Yuu and Grim.”

Leona yawns again as he nestles himself closer to his favourite human, who also happens to be his partner. His eyes are only half open, a sign that he’s just about ready to fall asleep once again.

“A trip to the Scalding Sands? I’ll pass; not a huge fan of large crowds. But if you wanna go, Yuu…” He stares into his lover’s eyes, waiting for a response. The prefect gives it a thought before answering.

“Hm, well I would like to go, since the festival is a once-a-year event. After all, who knows if I’ll be here to experience it again.”

Leona ignores the twinge in his heart at the thought of his favourite herbivore leaving his side, opting instead to reach into his pocket. He takes out a leather wallet, opening it with one hand and expertly fishing out a thin object. The prince places it gently into Yuu’s hand and quickly tucks away his wallet.

“There, now you can enjoy yourself without worrying. Just don’t let that little weasel see it. He might think this means he can spend on whatever without thinking.”

Yuu’s eyes widen as they unfurl their hand, their gaze falling on a shiny black credit card embellished with gold printed words. LEONA KINGSCHOLAR bedazzles the front, and a shiny crown emblem is stamped at the end of his name. The name of some unknown bank, as well as other details, dot the rest of the card. They flip it over and over, studying it carefully to make sure it’s real. Kalim and Jamil’s faces are also aghast as they recognize the card.

“WOAH!” Kalim gasps. “Is that a black card?! I have one too!”

From the sounds of Kalim’s voice, a black card seems exceptionally rare. Perhaps only the rich and royalty could own one. Either way, Yuu remained quite shocked at the mere fact that Leona trusted them enough to loan them his card. After all, he’s a prince! If Yuu ended up misplacing the card, and it got into the wrong hands, then who knows what could happen to THE prince of Sunset Savanna if his royal funds were taken.

“See? You’re all set now. Now hurry up and leave. You’re digging into my date time.”

“All you’re doing is sleeping…” Jamil mumbles, though it still reaches the beastman’s ears. “Whatever. Let’s go, Kalim. Because of you, I have to rearrange a bunch of things.”

“I’ll pass the news onto Grim for ya, Yuu! Be sure to be at the Mirror in the morning!” Kalim waves to the prefect and beastman as he’s dragged off by Jamil.

Once they’re gone, Leona gently brings Yuu closer to him, nuzzling his face into the crook of their neck. The prefect smiles and softly begins to brush their fingers through the prince’s brown locks, eliciting a pleased noise from the back of his throat.

“Thanks for trusting me with your card, Leona. I’ll be sure to keep it safe and use it wisely.”

“‘s all good,” Leona’s words come out slurred, the familiar and comforting scent of the gardens and his love lulling him back into dreamland. “Just want you to enjoy yourself.”

Leona finally falls asleep, and Yuu joins him once they’ve packed all their things. Trying to do homework now would be futile, it seems. The two peacefully slumber in each other’s embrace for the next hour or so, until Grim and Ruggie came to bring them back to their dorms for curfew.

Look, I think if you're a US citizen you should go on Youtube and watch the debate, or at least some of the chunks of it where the topic matters most to you. You can't counter the arguments if you don't know what arguments they're making. And no, I don't mean arguing with your aunt that drank the conspiracy koolaid. I mean that there are genuinely a lot of people out there hearing what Trump is saying and thinking, "I don't know. That sounds really scary."

So know what he said, and know not just THAT he lied, but HOW he lied.

Sometimes, it's easy. There are no "abortions" after a baby is born. That would be uhhh let's see MURDER and it's already pretty illegal everywhere and absolutely no one is trying to change that. The comment Trump attributed to former VA governor Ralph Northam is completely misrepresented. Northam (whom I am not defending as a person, by the way) was commenting on the subject of *non-viable* pregnancies that represented a health risk to the mother. Nobody was talking about killing babies. Nobody. Not even Mr. Blackface.

Sometimes it's so addled that I'll leave someone else to unpack, for example, what the FUCK he was on about with the giving illegal aliens in prison forced "trangender surgery". Personally I'm assuming he just used the random word generator in his head to say something that sounded scary to him.

There is NO credible evidence that anyone, much less Haitian immigrants, is eating pets in Springfield, Ohio. Both government officials and the police say there's nothing to it. Springfield has had a huge influx of Haitian immigrants, and this is causing infrastructure strain and racial tensions. But again, people who would rather believe that a) legal immigrants are okay with *stealing your pets and eating them* and b) the entire police and gov't infrastructure of a town and the surrounding county want to cover this up, are not worth our energy. It's the people who don't know the truth and are worried that we want to reach.

The moment Shigaraki gets back to the hideout, he is greeted by your wide-eyed, panicked expression.  

“Tomura!” you cry out, rushing over to him. “What... what happened? You’re hurt!”  

Granted, you’re not wrong. Part of his clothing has been torn up, and there are noticeable gashes on his skin peeking through the frayed fabric. He's taken enough damage that he's even walking with a bit of a limp, and he has to admit that it’s a pain in the ass.  

Despite all that, Shigaraki just shrugs in response.  

“I’m fine,” he dismisses. “Just let my guard down for a bit. Don’t worry. The other guys are dead, so in comparison, they barely did anything to me.”  

You puff out your cheeks, and even though he knows you’re worried, you’re so goddamn cute that it’s kind of hard to take you seriously.  

“Just because you’re strong doesn’t mean you don’t need to take care of yourself,” you chastise him.  

Shigaraki shrugs again. “It’s no big deal. I barely even feel anything.”

That’s a total lie, but he does his best to act tough around you. Besides, it wouldn’t reflect well on him if the leader of the League of Villains was whining over a few little injuries, right?  

Instead of responding, you just roll your eyes, grab him by the wrist, then pull him into one of the rooms.  

“Even if it’s not a big deal to you, it is to me,” you remind him. You lightly push on his shoulders and force him to sit down. “Now, stay there. I’m not letting you leave until you’re good as new.”  

Apart from his mentor, All for One, Shigaraki is the most dangerous villain to date. There’s practically no one who doesn’t cower in fear when they hear his name. He’s powerful enough to reduce anything to dust, and he watches in delight as no-good heroes die from his bare hands.  

That’s the kind of person he is, and yet, you still worry about him.  

Shigaraki isn’t sure how it happened, but he must have plucked an angel from the sky. Well, a corrupted angel who willingly supports a murderer, but an angel all the same.  

You lean forward, knitting your brows together, and slowly but surely, your palms begin to glow with bright, warm light.  

Even Shigaraki, as determined as he is to act unbothered, can’t help but sigh in relief as you press your gentle, glowing fingers against his injuries. He can feel the pain ebb away, gradually at first, and then all at once.  

Seriously, he struck the goldmine. Not only does his party have a healer now, but she’s also his super-hot girlfriend. Lately, he has to admit that life is pretty damn good.  

“How does that feel?” you ask, making sure not to apply too much pressure.  

Shigaraki nods sleepily. There’s something about your Quirk that makes him let his guard down and feel especially at ease. Although that can be said about being around you in general.  

You run your fingers over every single wound, even the ones that are small enough not to warrant any attention. His body is back to being in near-perfect shape, but he knows that using your Quirk comes at the cost of your own energy, and you let out a heavy sigh, slumping down onto his lap.  

“That’s why I said you didn’t need to do this,” Shigaraki frowns. “Look. You’re exhausted now.”  

You shake your head, mustering up a smile. “No. It’s fine. A bit of fatigue is nothing if I know that you’re safe. I just always want you to be safe. Okay, Tomura?”  

Before he can even respond, you cradle his cheek and lead his lips towards yours, meeting him in a soft, featherlight kiss. His face instinctively flushes, and he wraps his arms around you as quickly as possible, hoping to prolong the moment.  

“I know you only worry because you care,” he acknowledges. His lips trace yours for a moment, and when he kisses you again, it’s deeper and more urgent than before. “I... love you,” he mumbles. As usual, it’s hard for him to say the words. He always thought that someone like him didn’t deserve love, wasn’t even capable of it. But meeting you changed that, and now, he knows better.  

“I love you too, Tomura.”  

You smile back at him again. Perhaps he’s biased because you’re his girlfriend, but he really thinks you’re the most gorgeous human being on the entire planet. You make him feel warm and comfortable. He’s strong enough to kill anyone who dares to fuck with him, that much is true, but even so, it’s nice having someone who puts his wellbeing first. 

Shigaraki squeezes you tight, and he watches in adoration as your eyelids slowly fall shut, the strain of your Quirk finally catching up with you. If you happen to fall asleep on his lap, he knows he won’t be moving for the next couple of hours. But it’s fine.  

You took care of him, and now it’s his turn to take care of you.

how much power does tech really use, compared to other shit?

my dash has been full of arguing about AI power consumption recently. so I decided to investigate a bit.

it's true, as the Ars Technica article argues, that AI is still only one fairly small part of the overall tech sector power consumption, potentially comparable to things like PC gaming. what's notable is how quickly it's grown in just a few years, and this is likely to be a limit to how much more it can scale.

I think it is reasonable to say that adding generative AI at large scale to systems that did not previously have generative AI (phones, Windows operating system etc.) will increase the energy cost. it's hard to estimate by how much. however, the bulk of AI energy use is in training, not querying. in some cases 'AI' might lead to less energy use, e.g. using an AI denoiser will reduce the energy needed to render an animated film.

the real problem being exposed is that most of us don't really have any intuition for how much energy is used for what. you can draw comparisons all sorts of ways. compare it to the total energy consumption of humanity and it may sound fairly niche; compare it to the energy used by a small country (I've seen Ireland as one example, which used about 170TWh in 2022) and it can sound huge.

but if we want to reduce the overall energy demand of our species (to slow our CO2 emissions in the short term, and accomodate the limitations of renewables in a hypothetical future), we should look at the full stack. how does AI, crypto and tech compare to other uses of energy?

here's how physicist David McKay broke down energy use per person in the UK way back in 2008 in Sustainable Energy Without The Hot Air, and his estimate of a viable renewable mix for the UK.

('Stuff' represents the embedded energy of manufactured goods not covered by the other boxes. 'Gadgets' represents the energy used by electronic devices including passive consumption by devices left on standby, and datacentres supporting them - I believe the embodied energy cost of building them falls under 'stuff' instead.)

today those numbers would probably look different - populations change, tech evolves, etc. etc., and this notably predates the massive rise in network infrastructure and computing tech that the Ars article describes. I'm sure someone's come up with a more up-to-date SEWTHA-style estimate of how energy consumption breaks down since then, but I don't have it to hand.

that said, the relative sizes of the blocks won't have changed that much. we still eat, heat our homes and fly about as much as ever; electric cars have become more popular but the fleet is still mostly petrol-powered. nothing has fundamentally changed in terms of the efficiency of most of this stuff. depending where you live, things might look a bit different - less energy on heating/cooling or more on cars for example.

how big a block would AI and crypto make on a chart like this?

per the IEA, crypto used 100-150TWh of electricity worldwide in 2022. in McKay's preferred unit of kWh/day/person, that would come to a worldwide average of just 0.04kWh/day/person. that is of course imagining that all eight billion of us use crypto, which is not true. if you looked at the total crypto-owning population, estimated to be 560 million in 2024, that comes to about 0.6kWh/day/crypto-owning person for cryptocurrency mining [2022/2024 data]. I'm sure that applies to a lot of people who just used crypto once to buy drugs or something, so the footprint of 'heavier' crypto users would be higher.

I'm actually a little surpised by this - I thought crypto was way worse. it's still orders of magnitude more demanding than other transaction systems but I'm rather relieved to see we haven't spent that much energy on the red queen race of cryptomining.

the projected energy use of AI is a bit more vague - depending on your estimate it could be higher or lower - but it would be a similar order of magnitude (around 100TWh).

SEWTHA calculated that in 2007, data centres in the USA added up to 0.4kWh/day/person. the ars article shows worldwide total data centre energy use increasing by a factor of about 7 since then; the world population has increased from just under 7 billion to nearly 8 billion. so the amount per person is probably about a sixfold increase to around 2.4kWh/day/person for data centres in the USA [extrapolated estimate based on 2007 data] - for Americans, anyway.

however, this is complicated because the proportion of people using network infrastructure worldwide has probably grown a lot since 2007, so a lot of that data centre expansion might be taking place outside the States.

as an alternative calculation, the IEA reports that in 2022, data centres accounted for 240-340 TWh, and transmitting data across the network, 260-360 TWh; in total 500-700TWh. averaged across the whole world, that comes to just 0.2 kWh/day/person for data centres and network infrastructure worldwide [2022 data] - though it probably breaks down very unequally across countries, which might account for the huge discrepancy in our estimates here! e.g. if you live in a country with fast, reliable internet where you can easily stream 4k video, you will probably account for much higher internet traffic than someone in a country where most people connect to the internet using phones over data.

overall, however we calculate it, it's still pretty small compared to the rest of the stack. AI is growing fast but worldwide energy use is around 180,000 TWh. humans use a lot of fucking energy. of course, reducing this is a multi-front battle, so we can still definitely stand to gain in tech. it's just not the main front here.

instead, the four biggest blocks by far are transportation, heating/cooling and manufacturing. if we want to make a real dent we'd need to collectively travel by car and plane a lot less, insulate our houses better, and reduce the turnover of material objects.

One day later.

Dogday got up like any normal day, got his coffee, his breakfast and was discussing the latest information with his fellow Space Riders.

Picky Piggy was collecting the empty dishes preparing to clean them when she asked "Hey, captain? Did you hear that-" "My brother got suspended? Yeah." Dogday said with a tone. "The guy..honestly had it coming, i heard from Poppy he caused a lot of property damage, costing a cargo shuttle load of Credits." Bubba spoke

Dogday sighed "Maybe....I should go visit him, Poppy told me he was spending his suspension on Eden." Hoppy however just shrugged "Your brother's kind of a jerk, FixFox was gonna let me test ride one of her vehicles until I got a call from her saying that Dogbite wouldn't let her allow me."

"Prettybird told me she spent over an hour in the mirror only for your brother to cancel her date with me." Kickin added "I think it's my fault." Their captain sighed "Yours?" Catnap signed, to which Dogday nodded "Remember back at the academy, I was focused on classes, you guys and...justice. Not my brother, when he joined a year later I heard he had formed his own team and thought he was doing well."

"Did you visit him by chance?" Bubba asked, only for Dogday to shake his head "No. I just thought he was doing okay." He sighed and looked out the window "If i just talked, just TALKED to him time to time back in the academy. Asked how he was. Or congratulated him on his successes. Things would've been different.."

"You blame yourself for the way he acts?" Bubba deduced, Dogday just nodded, agreeing. Dogday's ears flicked hearing the sound of hooves clicking closer and fast, Craftycorn rushed in with a package "Captain! Captain!" She cried "What's the matter, Crafty?" Dogday asked before Craftycorn presented the package to him "You have a package. It's from The Seraphim.."

Within a minute, the crew had gathered in the meeting room as Bubba opened the package to reveal a holodisk, putting it in the tables computer, the hologram activated to reveal The Seraphim herself. "Dogday Solaris. I am sure you are most delighted to see me."

"Oh boy, wonder why.." Hoppy moaned as the hologram played. "I have something that may inquire your interest." With a smooth gesture of her hand she reveals..Dogbite, strung up with his arms apart and his legs tied, Dogday immediately got up from his seat as he saw in horror.

"I believe this person is of most importance to you, Dogday." The Seraphim said calmly, the loud humming of generators activated and shot a blast of electric energy down on Dogbite, all Dogbite could do was scream in agony. "No..!" Dogday whined. After the electric energies subsided, Seraphim softly stroked Dogbite's chin. "Smile, Space Rider. Your brother is watching this."

"SCREW YOU!!" Dogbite growled, spitting at the Seraphim "What a charmer your brother is.." Seraphim replied, "Your brother, as well as your parents must be proud of you for this." She said, caressing Dogbite's head "Do you have anything to say, Dogbite?"

Dogbite, lifting his body against the ropes holding him up looked directly at the camera, his eyes sunken with tiredness. "Ludwig, Poppy, my team...my brother...they were all right. Right about me..." He whimpered before lowering his head.

"Dogbite..." Dogday whispered as he continued to watch the video. "No need to plant a rescue, Space Riders. I will have my fellow followers deliver him to you in due time...perhaps his legs first."

With that, the hologram ended and Dogday was silent, still as a rock. Taking in the news that his brother is captive...suddenly screaming in anger Dogday picked up his chair and tossed it at the wall, shocking everyone.

Dogday slowly calmed down, his breathing calmer as he turned to his friends. "Sorry...I just snapped..I gotta save him!"

"You mean WE, right?" Kickin stood up replying. "Yeah...Bubba, can you track where Dogbite is?" Dogday asked

"For sure, it was the Seraphim's factory in the Calypso galaxy. On a dead planet." Bubba told him "Right, Catnap, you and I will contact Dogbite's team. Bubba, you Picky and Bobby set course for that planet, this will be an all hands on deck rescue mission!" Dogday ordered.

"All hands on deck, so all of us?" Hoppy asked "That's right." Dogday responded and looked out the window "Please be alive when we get there, little brother.."

On the dead planet, the Seraphim walked into the chamber holding Dogbite, still strung up and weakened. "Your brother should have received my present by now." She said softly "Shut up you witch..." Dogbite groaned "Lights out for now, Space Rider. Tomorrow, your legs will be my 'pets' breakfast." She said as she left, leaving Dogbite in the darkness.

While Dogbite was alone with his thoughts, he had finally, after all this time, realized his behavior was indeed souring his team, his recklessness was getting himself and others in danger, his alienating was incredibly unfair to his team and that his grudge was only going to get him killed. A single tear ran down his cheek as he admitted to himself.

"I am my own worst enemy..."
