It took her back to her childhood, to long grey days at Riverrun. She remembered the godswood, drooping branches heavy with moisture, and the sound of her brother’s laughter as he chased her through piles of damp leaves. She remembered making mud pies with Lysa, the weight of them, the mud slick and brown between her fingers. They had served them to Littlefinger, giggling, and he’d eaten so much mud he was sick for a week. How young they all had been. (Catelyn V, AGOT) None of which stopped Arya, of course. One day she came back grinning her horsey grin, her hair all tangled and her clothes covered in mud, clutching a raggedy bunch of purple and green flowers for Father. Sansa kept hoping he would tell Arya to behave herself and act like the highborn lady she was supposed to be, but he never did, he only hugged her and thanked her for the flowers. (Sansa I, AGOT)
--
“He did not know you,” Ser Rodrik said after, wondering. “He saw a pair of mud-spattered travelers by the side of the road, wet and tired. It would never occur to him to suspect that one of them was the daughter of his liege lord. I think we shall be safe enough at the inn, Ser Rodrik.” (Catelyn V, AGOT) “What were you doing to that cat, boy?” Myrcella asked again, sternly. To her brother she said, “He’s a ragged boy, isn’t he? Look at him.” She giggled. “A ragged dirty smelly boy,” Tommen agreed. They don’t know me, Arya realized. They don’t even know I’m a girl. Small wonder; she was barefoot and dirty, her hair tangled from the long run through the castle, clad in a jerkin ripped by cat claws and brown roughspun pants hacked off above her scabby knees. You don’t wear skirts and silks when you’re catching cats. (Arya III, AGOT)
--
Her two older brothers had both died in infancy, so she had been son as well as daughter to Lord Hoster until Edmure was born. Then her mother had died and her father had told her that she must be the lady of Riverrun now, and she had done that too. And when Lord Hoster promised her to Brandon Stark, she had thanked him for making her such a splendid match. (Catelyn VI, ACOK) “And Arya, well…Ned’s visitors would oft mistake her for a stableboy if they rode into the yard unannounced. Arya was a trial, it must be said. Half a boy and half a wolf pup. Forbid her anything and it became her heart’s desire. She had Ned’s long face, and brown hair that always looked as though a bird had been nesting in it. I despaired of ever making a lady of her. She collected scabs as other girls collect dolls, and would say anything that came into her head. (Catelyn VII, ACOK)
--
He had forgotten Catelyn, until the iron brazier came crashing into the back of his head. Helmed as he was, the blow did no lasting harm, but it sent him to his knees. “Brienne, with me,” Catelyn commanded. The girl was not slow to see the chance. A slash, and the green silk parted. They stepped out into darkness and the chill of dawn. Loud voices came from the other side of the pavilion. “This way,” Catelyn urged, “and slowly. We must not run, or they will ask why. Walk easy, as if nothing were amiss.” (Catelyn IV, ACOK) It was the scariest thing she’d ever done. She wanted to run and hide, but she made herself walk across the yard, slowly, putting one foot in front of the other as if she had all the time in the world and no reason to be afraid of anyone. She thought she could feel their eyes, like bugs crawling on her skin under her clothes. Arya never looked up. If she saw them watching, all her courage would desert her, she knew, and she would drop the bundle of clothes and run and cry like a baby, and then they would have her. She kept her gaze on the ground. By the time she reached the shadow of the royal sept on the far side of the yard, Arya was cold with sweat, but no one had raised the hue and cry. (Arya IV, AGOT)
--
“I’m almost a man grown, and a king—your king, ser. And I don’t fear Jaime Lannister. I defeated him once, I’ll defeat him again if I must, only …” He pushed a fall of hair out of his eyes and gave a shake of the head. “I might have been able to trade the Kingslayer for Father, but …” “… but not for the girls?” Her voice was icy quiet. “Girls are not important enough, are they?” (Catelyn I, ACOK) That much was true, Arya knew. Knights were captured and ransomed all the time, and sometimes women were too. But what if Robb won’t pay their price? She wasn’t a famous knight, and kings were supposed to put the realm before their sisters. And her lady mother, what would she say? Would she still want her back, after all the things she’d done? Arya chewed her lip and wondered. (Arya IV, ASOS)
Some parallels between Arya and Catelyn that I noticed during my re-read. It's interesting to see not only how similar they are, but also see how many moments they have that directly mirror each other.
#arya stark#catelyn tully#catelyn stark#asoiaf#a song of ice and fire#I will add more as I come across them#Hurray for Arya and Cat parallels that actually look at how they're similar and not just reduce them down to being /feral uwu/!#Their relationship has always driven me crazy because they are so similar and yet Cat was still so hard on Arya#ahhhhh the fucked up relationship between mothers and daughters!!!! mothers who think they're doing what's best#and the daughters who suffer for it ahhhhh!!!!!#obviously they love each other but they very obviously have their issues and them being so alike makes it that much more fascinating#I'll always be mad that we (for now) don't have any one page interactions between them

CALLING OUT YOUR NAME
FEATURING Steve Harrington x adopted!hopper!reader
CONTENT WARNING description of injuries, mentions of trauma, hurt steeb :(, angst, fluff, childhood friends to lovers, Steve being an asshole in high school
SUMMARY just when you thought he had forgotten you, he called out your name
AUTHORS NOTE ahhhhh! I don't know where this went but enjoy :)
You suffered a crushing defeat. Eleven, despite her best efforts, couldn’t reach Vecna in time, resulting in catastrophic consequences. Max, Lucas, Robin, Dustin, and Steve were all severely injured and ended up in the hospital. The extent of their injuries varied, but the grim reality was undeniable: you had all been defeated. During the chaos, you found yourself with Lucas, engulfed in a tumult of screaming, crying, and pleading as you cradled a weak Max in your arms. Her labored breathing shattered your heart into countless pieces.
In your desperation, you called out to any force that might listen, begging for Max's life, because it wasn’t her time to go—none of you were ready to say goodbye. After a frantic rush to the hospital, the overwhelming stress and exhaustion took their toll, causing you to faint in the hospital lobby, alarming both Lucas and Erika. Concerned for your well-being, the medical staff admitted you overnight for observation, attributing your collapse to acute stress reaction. Fortunately, you were stable and discharged the following morning, though Erika insisted on vigilantly watching over you throughout the night.
Being confined to the hospital bed initially kept you out of the loop about the full scope of the incident. Once discharged, you were quickly surrounded by your friends, eager to fill you in. Eleven, whom you had come to consider almost like a daughter ever since you helped Hopper raise her, threw herself into your arms, her tears soaking your shoulder. Mike had to gently pull her away so that Jonathan could have his turn to embrace you, his sobs muffled against your neck. You and Jonathan had shared a brief romantic chapter during high school, but had amicably parted ways when he began growing closer to Nancy. Despite the end of your romance, your bond remained strong, evolving into a deep, platonic love. Will, Mike, and Nancy joined in, their group hug was brief yet filled with immense warmth and concern.
After the emotional reunions, Eleven and Nancy guided you to sit on your bed to explain the sequence of events in detail. Eddie and Dustin had valiantly attempted to divert the bats, a move that tragically cost Eddie his life and left Dustin seriously injured. Vecna had anticipated their distraction and used it to his advantage, trapping and nearly killing Steve, Robin, and Nancy. However, Eleven managed to intervene just in time to save Max, pulling Vecna's focus away from her at a critical moment. This distraction allowed her to barely fend off Vecna, ensuring Max's survival by a narrow margin. While Eleven’s intervention bought them some time, the group had nearly executed their final plan to eradicate Vecna. But, before they could deliver the final blow, Vecna vanished, leaving behind a wide-open gateway that threatened all of Hawkins.
"Holy shit," you gasped, your mind struggling to grasp the enormity of the events they were describing. The words seemed to hang in the air, dense with gravity and horror.
"I know," Nancy replied with a heavy sigh, her voice tinged with fatigue. She gently rubbed your arm, offering a semblance of warmth in the cold aftermath of the battle.
"But how? How was he weakened? And how did you manage to escape from all that… that entanglement of roots?" you pressed, your thoughts scrambling to piece together the chaos they had endured.
"About that…" Eleven began, her voice trailing off uncertainly. She exchanged a meaningful glance with Will, who promptly exited the room. The tension thickened in his brief absence, leaving everyone in a state of anxious anticipation. Moments later, he returned, bringing with him a wave of relief in the form of Joyce and Hopper.
"Oh my god," you froze, your heart leaping into your throat as your eyes brimmed with tears. The sight of Hopper, alive and well, was overwhelming—a beacon of hope in the shadow of despair.
"Hey, cupcake," Hopper greeted you with his familiar, gruff affection, stretching his arms out wide. The old nickname, a tender relic from countless memories of your youth, acted like a spell, breaking the paralysis that had gripped you. You dashed into his embrace, burying your face in his chest, the familiar scent of his jacket enveloping you in safety.
"Pops," you sobbed, the relief of seeing him alive making your knees weak. "How? How are you here?"
"You two kids weren't the only ones who didn't give up on me," he responded, his voice rich with emotion. He glanced over at Joyce with a look of deep affection and gratitude. You smiled through your tears, your heart warming as you witnessed the palpable bond between your adopted father and Joyce. It was clear he had found a kindred spirit to share his turbulent life.
Glancing over at Joyce, you playfully wiggled your eyebrows. Throughout your time as one of Jonathan’s girlfriends, Joyce had always shown you a particular fondness, treating you more like a daughter than a mere acquaintance. This special connection meant that the two of you shared many intimate conversations and inside jokes. Joyce rolled her eyes at your antics but couldn’t suppress a knowing wink, causing a burst of laughter to escape you, lightening the heavy atmosphere.
The room momentarily filled with the sound of your laughter, a much-needed reprieve from the dire narrative. As everyone gathered closer, the comforting presence of friends and family intertwined with a renewed sense of purpose. Hopper and Joyce sat down next to you, ready to dive into the story of their unexpected return and the pivotal role it played in weakening Vecna. They began to recount their side of the ordeal, weaving a tale of resilience and unlikely alliances that had momentarily turned the tide against the dark forces at play, laying bare the depth of their struggle and the flickers of hope that persisted against all odds.
"Where is everyone else?" you wondered aloud, your voice tinged with concern as you scanned the room, searching for familiar faces.
"Dustin broke his leg, so they've got him holed up in the room to the left of you," Nancy explained, her words carrying a weight that seemed to settle heavily in the air. Despite the warmth of her smile, there was an underlying sense of burden that spoke volumes.
"And Robin… Robin broke her windpipe," Jonathan continued, his tone somber. "It was touch-and-go for a while. They had to rush her into surgery and put her on a respirator. She's in the room next to Dustin, still unconscious. The doctors are cautiously optimistic, but it's going to be a long road to recovery."
As the reality of their injuries sank in, you felt a knot form in your stomach, a mix of fear and helplessness tightening its grip on your heart. Hopper's comforting embrace offered a momentary respite, his strong presence a steady anchor in the midst of turmoil.
"Lucas is with Max in the room next to Robin," Nancy continued, her voice trembling slightly. "Max… she's in a coma. Her injuries are… severe." Her gaze flickered to Jonathan, a silent plea for support, and he responded with a reassuring squeeze of her hand. "The doctors… they're not sure if she'll wake up. It's… it's hard to say."
The heaviness of the room seemed to weigh down upon you, pressing in from all sides with an oppressive force. You struggled to find words, your mind reeling with the magnitude of what they were telling you.
"Oh! Also… uh," Mike interjected, his voice hesitant as he shifted uncomfortably.
"Also what?" you prompted, your heart racing with anticipation, a sense of foreboding creeping into the corners of your mind.
"Steve… Steve has been asking for you," Eleven chimed in, her innocence a stark contrast to the gravity of the situation. She had joined your makeshift family after 'the Steve incident,' unaware of the painful memories it dredged up for you. The mention of it sent a shiver down your spine, a reminder of wounds that had never fully healed.
"Why? What does he want?" you asked, your irritation bubbling to the surface. The audacity of Steve to seek you out in the midst of such chaos left you reeling, a surge of anger rising within you.
"He won't say, kid," Hopper interjected, his voice low and gruff. He remembered 'the Steve incident' all too well, the scars it had left behind still raw and tender. "But if you want him out of your hair, I'll handle it."
"Wait, Hop. She needs to, it's been long enough since-" Joyce began, her voice filled with concern and a hint of motherly affection.
The tension in the room thickened as Joyce and Hopper engaged in a silent battle of wills, each one advocating for a different course of action.
"No," Hopper cut her off sharply, his expression resolute as he shook his head.
"Pops," you interjected, breaking the tension with a warm smile as you wrapped your arms around him. "I'm an adult now. I got this." Despite the façade of confidence you projected, a knot of dread coiled in the pit of your stomach at the prospect of facing Steve once again.
"Whatever you say, kid, but I don't know if I trust his intentions after the-" Hopper's words trailed off, his brow furrowing in concern.
"Please don't finish that sentence," you pleaded, a grimace tugging at the corners of your mouth. Hopper heaved a weary sigh, his resolve wavering in the face of your insistence. He leaned down to press a fatherly kiss to your forehead before reluctantly releasing you.
You smiled up at him, a surge of joy flooding your heart at the sight of him alive and well before you. "I've got this, pops. I'm your daughter, and if you can come back from the dead, I can take care of a kid I used to be friends with," you reassured him, though the words felt more like a mantra to bolster your own courage than a genuine assurance to him.
After bidding a reluctant farewell to your father, you followed Joyce out of the room and toward the door at the far end of the hall, adjacent to Max's. Joyce filled you in on Steve's condition as you walked, her voice tinged with a mixture of concern and confusion.
"He's in here with a few broken ribs, chunks of skin missing, dehydration, and a concussion," she explained, her words painting a grim picture of Steve's injuries. "When he came to, he immediately asked how everyone was doing. After we told him you had fainted, he was adamant on leaving to go see you. Jonathan and Hopper had to step in to hold him down."
As Joyce's words washed over you, a wave of confusion washed over you. You hadn't exchanged so much as a word with Steve since he broke your heart all those years ago. His sudden desire to speak with you now left you feeling disoriented and apprehensive.
"Thanks," you managed a strained smile, attempting to steady your nerves with a deep, centering breath before stepping through the doorway. The room felt stifling, the weight of Steve's presence suffocating as you prepared yourself for the confrontation ahead.
Steve's voice cut through the air, calling out your name, drawing you further into the room. His relief was palpable, evident in the way his tense shoulders sagged as he sank onto the bed. "Oh, thank god. Are you alright?"
His words grated against your raw emotions, reigniting the seething anger that simmered just beneath the surface. "Why do you care?" you snapped, your arms crossing defensively over your chest as you glared daggers at him, the venom in your tone thick and acrid.
"Listen," he began, his voice tinged with desperation, his face drained of color as he braced himself for your response. "I messed up, okay?"
"Messed up?" you scoffed, your scowl darkening into a murderous glare. "I don't think spreading rumors around high school about me being 'a whore who puts out for anyone' qualifies as a mistake. That sounds pretty damn intentional to me," you growled, your voice dripping with contempt as you confronted him head-on. Steve recoiled at the ferocity of your words, his features contorting with guilt and shame under your piercing gaze. "Seriously, how dare you have the audacity to ask for me, to care about me, after the stunt you pulled. You used to be my best friend, the person I trusted most in the world, and you knew damn well I was a virgin!"
"I know! I fucked up, and I am so, so sorry," Steve pleaded, his voice thick with remorse as he struggled to find the right words to express the depth of his regret.
"No! You don't get to apologize. Not anymore. Not after you ripped my heart out," you spat, your anger boiling over as you unleashed years of pent-up frustration and hurt. "You know what? I can't do this. I hope you have a shit life, Steve," you seethed, your voice trembling with emotion as you turned on your heel and stormed toward the door, your heart pounding in your chest with each step. Every fiber of your being screamed for escape, for relief from the crushing weight of betrayal that threatened to consume you whole.
"I was scared!" Steve's voice echoed through the room, halting you in your tracks. "I was scared," he repeated softly, his vulnerability breaking through the barrier of anger that surrounded you. You stayed quiet, guarded, but turned back around to see that he had gotten out of bed and was right behind you. Too close. You took a step back, instinctively creating space between you, as he continued to speak.
"I loved you so much that I thought I was going to die," he confessed, his voice trembling with emotion. "You were gorgeous and everything that I ever dreamed of, but things with my parents were starting to get really bad. It went from casually throwing comments my way to yelling and throwing things and threats of kicking me out, and I just…" he trailed off, his breath hitching as he struggled to articulate his thoughts. Finally, he mustered the courage to meet your gaze. "I couldn't put you through that, not after you had lost your mom and little sister."
"That doesn't excuse the rumor spreading, you dick," you retorted, your voice quieter now, the malice drained from your words. Steve reached over, his hands grazing your arms, but you quickly recoiled, pulling away from his touch. The physical contact felt like an intrusion, a violation of the boundaries you had erected to protect yourself from further pain.
"Please," Steve pleaded, his voice trembling with emotion. "I almost died. You almost—" he sighed heavily, running a hand through his tousled hair in frustration. "When I was stuck in those things, fighting for air, the only thing that came to my mind was you. It was you, baby. I was about to die, and all I could think about was how I lost someone so special, someone I wanted—no, someone I want to spend the rest of my life with. And me being scared is a stupid excuse. I should have never done that to you, but I can't take it back. The only thing I can do is ask for a second chance."
His words hung in the air, heavy with sincerity and vulnerability, as he bared his heart to you, laying his emotions bare in the hope of redemption. "I love you," he whispered, his voice barely audible above the sound of your racing heartbeat. "I love you, and I just want to take you out on a date. Just one, and then you can decide for yourself whether or not you ever want to see me again. If you don't, then I'll leave you alone. But… but if you do, then I think we could really be something special together, and I swear to try my best to fight for us."
The room fell into a cold, tense silence, the weight of his words hanging heavily in the air as you grappled with your emotions. You were hesitant, scared of letting him back in after what he had done, but his words struck a chord within you. It could have been the end for both of you, it still could be at any moment. So why not seize the time you have left? If you got hurt, you got hurt, but at least you could say that you tried. Right?
As you stood there, grappling with your thoughts, Steve's hopeful gaze bore into yours, his heart laid bare before you, awaiting your decision with bated breath. The air crackled with tension, uncertainty hanging thick between you, as you contemplated whether to open your heart to him once more, or to shut him out for good.
"Okay," you breathed, the word hanging in the air like a fragile promise, waiting to see if he would shatter it with a cruel twist of fate. But he didn't. Instead, he took a step forward, his hand finding its way to your waist as he pulled you close, the warmth of his touch seeping into your skin. He stopped just before kissing you, a silent plea in his eyes as he waited for your permission.
You found yourself lost in his deep brown eyes, the same eyes that had witnessed your tears, your pain, and your heartache. But this time, as you stared into them, you saw something different—sincerity, vulnerability, and a flicker of hope reflected in the small golden flecks. It was in that moment that you knew. He wasn't going down without a fight.
With a silent nod, you closed the distance between you, your lips meeting in a heated kiss that sent sparks flying. It was a kiss filled with passion, longing, and a silent promise of what could be. When you finally pulled away, both of you were left breathless and wanting, the electricity lingering in the air like a tangible force.
"Just don't go and fuck it up this time, okay?" you murmured, your voice tinged with a mixture of caution and longing, your heart laid bare before him.
"Okay," Steve replied, his smile tender and genuine as he pulled you back in for another kiss, sealing the unspoken pact between you with a promise of redemption and a chance at love renewed.

How does your V feel about River. I just did a playthrough where my own V was crushing after someone else (Takemura) and that whole scene with the kids wanting her and River to get together made both me and my V wanna curl up in a ball and die from how awkward it was. Just curious as to your own feelings on River.
Ahhhhh, so I was writing a very long answer, and then Tumblr just wiped it on me. 😭 Thanks, Tumblr.
ANYWAY, River's romance wasn't for me or Valerie. 😅
I'm gonna put the rest under a cut in case anyone wants to avoid River critical opinions, and I really want to stress that this is just my preference. I'm not trying to convince anyone not to like their boy--I actually liked River outside of his romance, and I genuinely enjoy other folks' River ships. I also think a lot of my issues with the romance can be chalked up to neglect from the devs. But playing through it was nevertheless a minefield of squicks for me.
From Valerie's perspective, she basically saw River as a decent, principled guy while they were working together on the Rhyne/Peralez investigation, but thought their relationship, working or otherwise, would be concluded when they wrapped that up. She admires that he wants to stick to his convictions and go to IA with the corruption, but she is a much more cynical person when it comes to the powers that be, and he doesn't respond overly fondly when she says such.
So Valerie is very surprised when he reaches out for help with Randy, and she assumes it's totally out of desperation rather than any interest in her personally. Johnny, of course, picks up on it, which she sort of brushes off, but when River starts saying things like "I'll tell you about it over a beer sometime," she does get the sense that maybe he's interested in more than just her professional help.
By this point, though, Valerie is smitten with Goro. She's denying it to herself, and trying to keep her focus on the Relic and fixing her terminal condition (which River doesn't even know about), but either way: she has no interest in pursuing anything romantic or sexual with River.
She does help River with Randy, because despite any awkwardness she feels around River, she's not gonna let a kid potentially die because of it. But again, when they part ways, Valerie thinks that's that. So when he calls later, telling her that he misses her and inviting her to family dinners, Valerie is immediately like hey, buddy, don't do this.
I think the most in-character thing for her would be to not go to the dinner and just wish him well on the phone call, but since the game won't let you close out the quest without making an appearance, I made her suffer through the world's most awkward family meet-n-greet.
Valerie doesn't dislike kids, but she's not overly keen on them either, particularly those who aren't related to her, so playing with them and a man she's trying to let down gently is incredibly uncomfortable. She also doesn't particularly appreciate the way Joss probes into her family life or plans for a family life, and when the kids do the "raise your hand if you think River and V would be a good couple," Valerie has pretty much fuckin' had it.
And then, when they're chatting up on the water tank, Valerie is frustrated that River implies she's been stringing him along when she's tried as nicely as possible to tell him she's not interested. She's also sober and the daughter of an addict who lost her life to drugs and alcohol, so she does not find his "I can be awfully charming when drunk" comment endearing at all.
So, after all is said and done, Valerie doesn't really want anything to do with River anymore. She might be willing to help him professionally again, and she's still friendly with him, but she doesn't think of him as a friend.
As for my personal opinion on the romance, I think it was just incredibly underdeveloped (especially compared to the ladies), and that lack of development paired with the fact that he's the only male romance option available to female Vs ends up having a lot of frustrating and troubling implications.
It does kind of feel like CDPR made a very bold assumption that what women who are attracted to men want in a relationship is something that is heavily centered around family and children. As a woman who does not like that in real life or fiction and often has to defend my own child-free relationship, I found that very off-putting. And this isn't to say that it shouldn't exist at all--I fully support anyone who does enjoy this take on a romance, and I'm glad they got to have something they enjoyed--I just really wish it wasn't the only option.
I also don't like that there's no way to reject him without subjecting yourself to the awkward family dinner. It makes him feel very pushy if you're not into him, which I feel probably isn't the intent. I'm sure some folks would take the stance that it's more realistic, but I'm okay with forgoing a little realism if it means I don't have to have the uncomfortably immersive experience of telling a man I'm not into him while we're sitting atop a water tower and he's getting drunk. 😬😬😬
I also really disliked both his and V's responses if you chose the "ever feel lonely?" prompt, which I talked about here.
But the Peralez/Rhyne mission with him is actually one of my favorites in the game, and if his story had stayed more in that route, like fighting the corruption in the NCPD, I probably would have enjoyed him overall a lot more.
And if I remember correctly, Goro's creation also ended up affecting how River was utilized in the story--I think he was supposed to have a bigger role in some of the corporate happenings, but the writers realized they wanted someone deep inside Arasaka instead, hence Goro. Well, first it was going to be a more villainess lady character, and then it became Goro because they wanted to humanize Arasaka more.
So yeah. Those are my complicated thoughts on River. I mean, from the in-character perspective, it's pretty straightforward, but my own opinions on him are kind of ambivalent.

Suffered in Silence - Chapter 1
Masterlist
Summary: Frankie had been suffering in silence for so long. Ashamed that his life wasn't what his friends believed it to be. What will it take for him to finally seek help?
Pairings: Frankie Morales x Original Female Character
Warnings: Angst, Domestic abuse
Notes: There are some pretty sensitive subjects in this so be warned.
He knew that his friends thought his life was... Because that's what he'd let them believe. He was ashamed. He'd been in Delta Force, he'd been a warrior as Will had once put it but now? Now he was a man that feared going home.
He did for his daughter. The one shining light in his life, but he knew he couldn't continue like this. It had to end eventually.
But that wasn't today. Today was fight night, his one night to get away from the disaster that was his life and let himself smile, laugh. Will was grinning at him as he approached, arms outstretched as the two men pulled each other into a welcoming embrace.
"How you doing Fish?"
Frankie shrugged, trying to hide the wince that Will's friendly slap on the back elicited. Will did notice though. His brow furrowed for the briefest moment before replacing it with a smile as the two men headed to the bar.
"How's Izzy?"
"She's amazing." Gushed Frankie, a grin sweeping across his face "She said Dada this morning."
"Wow." Will smirked and Frankie playfully punched his friend "How'd Lilly take that?" Will chuckled and Frankie tensed, desperate to keep his face placid.
"She uh... She was a little annoyed." He confessed, "Think she's jealous that Izzy's a bit of a daddie's girl."
So jealous, she took it out on me with the rolling pin He thought to himself as he absentmindedly rubbed his side.
"Well, you are the one that spends the most time with her." Said Will as he shrugged "Being a stay at home dad and all that."
"Yeah, I guess," Frank replied, shrugging "I just feel bad ya know. She's the one that gave birth to her and all."
"Takes two to make a baby. Plus she was so upped on pain meds she barely felt it. I know that because she bragged about it when we met the baby for the first time." Will continued, passing Frankie his beer "Don't feel guilty that the child you care for day in day out's first words were for you."
They took their seats, cheering as Ben appeared in the ring and shot them both a wink. The fight was quick but brutal, the younger Miller brother wiping the floor with the guy and soon the threesome found themselves heading to the locker room as Will and Ben supped at their beers and Frank on his soda.
"Ahhhhh, I'm so happy you can Fish." Ben gushed as he pulled the man into a crushing bear hug and Frankie couldn't stop the yell that slipped from his lips.
Ben quickly let him go, noting the tears in his eyes before looking down to see him clutching his side. Benny didn't even think as he grabbed the mans hand and lifted his shirt, gasping at the bruises that painted his rips.
"Fish, what the fuck is this?" He asked, his eyes locking with the older man as his chest heaved.
"Nothing." Frankie tried to shrug Ben off but to no avail and soon he was being held in place by Will as Ben lifted his shirt more to reveal older, healing bruises on his back and hips "I'm clumsy."
"Don't fucking lie to me Fish." Ben warned, "Who did this to you?"
"It's nothing, Ben. I can handle it."
"Handle what Fish?" Will asked as he let his friend go "Did Lilly do this to you?"
Frankie's silence told them all they needed to know. Ben felt his anger boiling over, nostrils flaring as he grabbed his beer and downed the last of it.
"Right, this is what we're going to do." Started Ben as he slammed the empty cup down on the bench "We are going to head back to yours, grab Izzy and then you're going to come n' stay with us a while."
"Ben-"
"This isn't a negotiation Fish." He growled.
"I don't have to listen to this." Frankie snapped, finally having enough of the conversation.
"We're just trying to help you, Frank."
"Well, I don't want it." He yelled, storming out the room and leaving the two brothers perplexed in his wake.
"What are we going to be Will?" Asked Ben, scrubbing a hand over his face as he looked over at his brother.
"He needs to want out help Ben." Will stated, leaning back against a row of lockers "Fish's a stubborn guy. He will come to us for help in his own time. We know the truth now so that's the first step."
"The first step?" Ben screeched "He's is heading home right now to a woman that clearly beats the shit out of him on the regular." the younger man's chest heaved as he stood "I can sit by knowing she's hurting him, Will. She's his wife. The mother of his kid and she's beating him."
Will let out a sigh as his head fell back against the lockers at his rear. He knew his brother was right but he wasn't sure how to approach this. It was delicate. Lilly and Frankie had only been together a few months before they found out about the baby. He'd been so excited and in no time at all the two of them were married. Frankie had felt like it had been his second chance after almost losing his life to his coke addiction and so in hindsight he barely knew Lilly. Now, 18 months after learning he was going to be a father, he was in a loveless marriage with an almost 1-year-old.
They knew they needed to do something. They had to come up with a plan or hope that Frank would come to his senses before it was too late.
~
Ben rubbed his eyes as his phone shrilled in the darkness. He glanced at the clock, noting it's gone 2 am and letting out a groan as he grabbed his phone to answer it.
"Hello?"
'Sorry to call so late." The voice on the other end said and Ben furrowed his brow at the seriousness of their tone "We have you as the emergency contact for Francisco Morales. He's been involved in an accident-"
"Where is he?" Ben growled, grabbing clothes and pulling them on.
She gives him the address and he's out the door in a heartbeat, ringing his brother as he jumped in his truck and threw it into drive. He didn't register the drive, didn't register pulling into the parking lot or even sprinting into the hospital.
"Francisco Morales. Where is he?" He blurted out when he reached the desk.
"And you are?"
"His emergency contact. I was called to say he's here."
"BEN?" He turned his head to see Will sprinting up behind him before he turned his head back to the nurse.
"Please where is he?"
"ICU." She stated and his stomach dropped and he demanded the room number and left, following the signs until he stumbled through the double doors.
"Frank." He called, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"Benjamin Miller?" Asked a voice and he turned his head sharply to look at them "I'm doctor Sears, I'm treating your friend."
"What happened?" Asked Will and the doctor turned to look at him.
"He appears to have fallen from his bedroom window." Ben felt sick "He was seen falling by a neighbour who called an ambulance."
"Where was his wife?" Will asked, his eyes drifting to his brother.
"She wasn't home." The doctor stated, "We haven't been able to reach her."
Ben couldn't listen to any more "Where is he?"
"Follow me."
The brothers followed the doctor to another part of the ward. The rooms were made of glass. A glass divider between each one, a window into the suffering of each patient but there was only one window they cared about.
"Now I must warn you before you both go in." He started, stopping a few steps short of Frankie's room "He's in a bad way. Both legs are broken, his back and left arm."
"His back is broken?" Will gasped and the doctor nodded.
"He was lucky. His daughter's stuffed to cushion his fall a little. Stopped his head from hitting the patio."
"Fuck." Ben sighed, not even trying to stop the tears that now slipped down his cheeks.
"I'll be honest with you." He started and the Miller brothers looked at him apprehensively "If he wakes up he's got a long road ahead of him."
"If?"
"He's comatose. He still hit his head hard when he fell." Both Will and Ben nodded, eyes prickling with Fresh tears "The damage to his back was also extensive. We've done what we can but it's unlikely he'll walk again."
The Miller's couldn't say anything. All they could do was follow numbly as the doctor led them to Frankie, their tears becoming audible weeps at the sight of their friend smothered in plaster and tubes.
"She did this," Ben growled a short time later, pulling Will from his thoughts "She did this Will."
"Ben we don't know that for sure."
"So what... he just fell out by accident?" Ben snorted, taking a seat at Frankie's bedside.
"I'm not saying that." Will growled, "But we can't go accusing people without any hard proof."
"So what do we do?"
"We get some."
~
Will had volunteered to get the proof they needed to pin Frankie's accident and so Ben had sat at his side, watching his unnatural breathing and praying that Will would uncover something. Anything to free his best friend from his hell.
"Oh, Frankie." Came a soft voice and Ben turned his head to see Lilly standing in the doorway, Izzy in her arms "Baby what happened to you?" She cooed as she walked to his side and gently stroked his dishevelled hair "How is he?"
"Comatose." Ben replied plainly "Potentially paralysed."
"Oh my god." Lilly sobbed and Ben scoffed at that, impressed with her acting skills "When will he wake up?"
"They don't know if he will," Ben replied, eyes settling on his friend.
"Oh," Lily replied, glancing down at her daughter.
"Oh?" Ben growled, "That's all you can say to that?"
"Ben-"
"Your husband fell out of a window, broke his back and is in a coma that he likely won't wake up from and all you can say is oh?"
"Mrs Morales I presume." Came a different voice "And this must be Izzy."
"It is." Gushed Lilly, grinning down at her smiley baby "How is my husband?"
"I assume Mr Miller here has filled you in on the basics." Lilly nodded, eyes watching the doctor as he made his way into the room.
"He said he might not wake up."
"Indeed." The doctor confirmed, perching himself on the table that lined the glass wall "I could bore you all day with the medical jargon however I think its best to get straight to the point. It's amazing that with the level of injury he's endured, that he's lasted this long. We are treating him with every intention of getting him well again but you need to prepare yourselves."
Lilly nodded, placing a soft kiss on the crown of Izzy's head as her eyes wandered to Frankie again.
"There was one thing we wanted to ask you, Mrs Morales." Sears paused, watching as the woman look up at him "He had several bruises covering his back and abdomen that aren't from his fall. Some looked fairly new and others a little older. Do you know where he might have gotten those from?"
"Honestly Frankie's really clumsy." She replied, letting out an exasperated sigh "He's always tripping and falling."
"And falling out of windows?" Ben questioned and Lilly's head whipped around to look at him.
"Obviously not." She spat, eyes glowering at him as she pressed her lips to her daughter's temple.
She didn't stay long. Using the excuse the Isabella couldn't stay in such a place. So Ben was left alone again with his comatose best friend and his thoughts. The nurses came and went. A few doctors too but Sears came back early the following morning as Benny settled in for another day of sitting and waiting, his expression hard to read.
"I wanted to speak with you about some concerns." He started and Ben's stomach dropped, eyes flitting to Frankie who looked much the same as he had the day before.
"Is he... has he got worse?" The younger Miller asked and the doctor shook his head in reply.
"No, he's the same. No better but no worse." Benny breathed a sigh of relief at that "No what I wanted to talk to you about where the bruises. came from" He started and Ben's blood ran cold "I believe that he's being abused and I am concerned that if he does make it out of here, that he won't be safe."
"He is doc but he won't outright tell us that's what's going on." Benny replied, scrubbing a hand over his tired face "Last time I saw him, a little over a week ago, he had bruises all over his rips. Claimed he'd fallen but they didn't look like they were from a fall."
"Most of his injuries are consistent with a blunt instrument like a bat or perhaps a rolling pin." Ben felt sick "Now I read in his file he's ex-military."
"Yeah, we served together," Ben affirmed and Sears nodded.
"So it's likely that he's embarrassed but if he recovers. I can't in good conscience let him go back to a home where he might not get the help he needs to heal."
'What can we do doc?"
"Right now? Not a lot." He replied grimly "If he wakes then hopefully we will be able to get some answers from him but it's been eating away at me since his wife said that he was clumsy. Military men don't tend to be clumsy."
"Fish's a pilot. Best damn pilot I know and the steadiest hand of any man I know too. He ain't clumsy." Ben confirmed and the doctor nodded.
"Let's hope we get some answers."
~
Will came up empty from his search. He'd managed to convince Lilly to let him check the place out. See where it was Frankie had fallen from and there wasn't any evidence of foul play. To be exact there wasn't any evidence of anything and so he thought it likely Lilly had cleaned up after herself if she'd been involved. He decided that his next line of enquired would be the neighbour who'd seen him fall, hoping that he might shed some light on what had happened.
"So you saw Mr Morales fall?" He asked the older man, taking notes as the man spoke.
"Oh yes. Was terrible." The man nodded as he spoke.
"Can you tell me exactly what it was you saw?"
"Well, I was outside tending to my vegetable patch when I heard the baby start to cry. She's been colic the past week poor thing. I then heard raised voices which I thought was a little strange, hardly ever hear shouting from anyone around here, and then a yell and that's what caught me attention. The next thing I knew the poor man was falling from the window. I banged on the door furiously but no one answered, I guess Lilly was out and so I managed to pry open the back gate and that's when I found him. I managed to call 911 and the police took my statement, he was taken away and that was the end of it."
"You heard Izzy crying?" Will asked, brow furrowed.
"Oh yes. Definitely heard her crying. Was her nursery window he fell from." The man confirmed and Will nodded "Why'd you ask?"
"Lilly claimed she had the baby with her when she was out."
"Oh, how strange." The man replied, brows knitting together as he took a moment to think back to the event "I'm pretty sure I heard the baby... And there ain't any others around here."
"Thank you for your help, Mr Giles." Will said as he shook the man's hand "I really appreciate your answering my questions."
"Any time."
~
"She was there," Will confirmed as he practically sprinted into Fish's room, grabbing Ben and Sears' attention.
"What?"
"Lilly claimed she was out with the baby." Will started and Ben nodded "And sure enough when they arrived the house was empty and Izzy and Lil were nowhere to be seen. However. I spoke with the neighbour who saw him fall. He claimed he'd heard Izzy crying, then he heard raised voices before a yell a few minutes later and that's when he saw Fish fall."
"Shit." Ben breathed as he glanced at the doctor "Could she have pushed him?" He asked, looking over at his brother.
"I don't know." Will replied, chest heaving "But I think we seriously need to consider that it could be a possibility."
~
2 months later...
Ben had been at the hospital within 10 minutes when he'd received the call to say Frankie was awake. The man was groggy and confused after spending 2 months on pause but he'd been happy to see Ben. It took him a while to come around properly and he'd finally started to become more lucid when Lilly arrived with Izzy.
"Oh my god, Frankie." She squealed, shoving the baby into Ben's arms as he glanced at his brother "I'm so happy you're awake."
"Hey, baby." He smiled as she kissed him sweetly "How's Izzy?" He croaked, voice hoarse from the tube in his throat that he'd woken up to and choked on.
"Fussy." She replied, turning to Ben and taking Izzy off of him "But she's right here."
Frankie's face changed as he looked at his daughter, brow knitting together.
"How long was I asleep?" He asked, glancing around at everyone. "Two months."
"How old is she?"
"What do you mean Frankie?"
"How old?" He snapped.
"13 months." She replied and he choked, tears filling his eyes.
"She can't be." He sobbed and everyone's faces twisted in confusion "She can't be..."
"Can everyone leave a moment?" Piped up Sears, giving them all a quick nod as they were herded outside by one of the nurses and into a waiting room just down the corridor.
They waited for what felt like an age. Legs bounced nervously as they awaited news on Frankie's condition. Finally, Sears appeared with a stony expression as he came to a stop in front of them, eyes settling on the Miller brothers a short while before he looked at Lilly.
"My Morales appears to be suffering from Amnesia. His last clear memory is from almost a year ago. He doesn't remember the accident or anything else in that time."
"What?" Ben snapped and everyone jumped a little at his outburst "What do you mean he doesn't remember? Will he?"
'Memory is a fickle thing." The doctor confessed "I have a friend who fell off a horse, straight onto her head. Ended up with a nasty concussion and doesn't recollect anything from the month it happened... Still can't to this day doesn't but I have also met people who have regained their memories." He paused, taking them all in "We did a few other tests." He appears to have no feeling in his legs which is what I feared might be the case so I've had to sedate him. He became quite unsettled when he realised he couldn't move his legs. We will tell him what happened to him but in time. I would appreciate it if for the time being. You didn't disclose what happened. Don't want to put him under any unnecessary stress."
They all nodded. Watching the doctor leave before standing from their seats.
"I am going to take Izzy home. I think perhaps he needs some time before he sees her again." Lilly piped up and Ben snored.
"Yeah see you later Lil," Will replied, giving her a curt nod before watching her leave also.
"What we gonna do?" Ben asked, voice shaking as he turned to face his brother fully.
"Well Fish clearly can't remember how she treated him?" Will replied "I mean I dunno when this all started but my guess is shortly after Izzy was born. He never had any marks on him before."
"Shit." Ben breathed, hands shaking as he rubbed his eyes with his palms "We can't let him go home with her Will." Ben urged "We need to either help him remember, or we need to prove she did it. He can't go back to her."
"I agree." Will replied, nodding as he stared off in thought "I have an idea." He said after a few minutes "It's risky but it might work." The man paused as he looked at his brother "It needs to work."

Oh, Molly!!!!!! Spanish girl here!
I just read your teens!Kate and Anthony and I'M COMPLETELY DYING. HOW CAN THEY BE SOOOOOOOOOOOO REALLY CUTE AND LOVELY?! And, as a girl who wears glasses on her daily life bc she's as blind as a bat and a girl who's about to get braces (at 27, yep), I do appreciate this Katie. I wish many girls on their teens could read this and show them that the cute (and hot) boy can also fall in love with them!!!
Anyway, I loved your latest post about Anthony getting into Kate's room bc she's scared of storms, and they getting caught "red handed" and Thomas addressing the *topic* without really wanting to address it. I'm dying to know how Edmund and Mary addressed that conversation and the reaction of the children. You may post it on Ao3, but it would be really funny to read.
I hope you're doing very well! I think I've never asked how you doing and that's so impolite from my side.
¡Te leo pronto! (Read you soon!) 🥰
Ahhhhh She’s back!
Hello! Hello! Hello!
I’m doing pretty good all things considered! I just went away with my friends for the weekend and got a new tattoo so that’s pretty exciting! Here’s a picture of me with my friends that I just found on my phone this morning, pretty drunk on Margaritas in the bathroom of the Mexican restaurant we went too, you guys know which one I am right? The really drunk one taking the picture.
Anyway! Katie and Anthony are the absolute CUTEST! I can’t even handle nervous baby himbo Anthony who wants desperately to talk to Katie and who just doesn’t know what the heck to say to her. I love him, your honour. And Katie Sheffield is “nerd” solidarity, she’s got braces and glasses and she’s still pretty as hell. Because we can agree that those things don’t change how you look. They don’t make you pretty or “ugly”, They’re just a part of who you are! I also wear glasses and if I had a dollar for every time someone told me I look better without them I’d be a very rich gal. Like, thanks for thinking I look good, but I need them to see!
Let’s maybe… take a little look at how Mary is dealing with her daughter being basically an adult.
Katie had known she was in for the most awkward conversation of her life when she’d come home and very awkwardly said
“Umm Anthony asked me to go and watch him play Rugby tomorrow, and I thought maybe I would.” And May had gasped delightedly. “Just as friends, it’s not a date I don’t think.” She’d finished quickly, waving off her stepmother and trying to ignore how her Dad was looking very stony faced at her.
“He plays rugby? What position?” Her dad had said suspiciously, narrowing her eyes, and Katie had honestly had no idea how to answer that because she honestly didn’t know. Luckily Mary saved her from having to admit that little fact with a loud tut as she placed dinner in the table.
“Does it really matter, Tom? Honestly, that sounds nice Katie.” She said gently, ignoring her father’s little sigh.
“We’re just friends, Dad. Honestly, and it’s not a date, his Mum and Dad are gonna be there, he even invited Eddie. I think he just thought he had to . I probably won’t even go.” Her heart sinking a little as she looked down at her plate, the truth of her own words stinging just a little. Her dad let out a little sigh, and Katie was very suspicious that Mary’s hand had connected with his shoulder.
“Of course you’re going.” He said sounding a little resigned. “You’re taking your sister though.” Katie nodded her heart fluttering a little even as Edwina groaned.
“Dad no, please! Just because Katie’s going out with Anthony I have to suffer through Rugby as well!” She whined ignoring Mary’s nudge.
“We’re not going out Eddie!”
“Sorry, are you not going somewhere together?” Edwina said eyebrows raised oblivious to the way Katie’s insides were twisting uncomfortably.
“We’re just… going to be at the same place. We’re not going to be there together.” She mumbled uncomfortably, her cheeks burning as she adjusted her glasses.
“Katie, honey, it’s okay to be a little nervous.” Mary said gently.
“I’m not nervous.” Katie lied quickly, and then a little wildly, “Can we please just focus on something else?!”
The conversation moved on and thankfully Katie was spared any further embarrassment until a knock sounded at her door hours later. Mary peeking her head round the door, Kate felt her heart sink.
“Katie, honey, can we have a talk?” She forced herself to nod because really, what else could she do? Mary smiled gently sitting down on the bed next to her. Kate took a deep breath and steeled herself what what she was sure was coming.
“Katie I think it’s time we had a little chat about Anthony.” And there it was. Kate felt her cheeks burn.
“Mary, it’s really not like that, we just study and we’re maybe becoming friends but he doesn’t like me like that.” She said embarrassedly, adjusting her glasses though continuing to stare at the sheets in front of her.
“Do you like him?” Kate hadn’t been expecting that, her eyes flicking up to Mary’s chest aching at the soft expression there. Katie shrugged.
“Maybe, but it doesn’t really matter because he’s never going to like me.” She mumbled, ducking her head again. Mary sighed.
“What makes you so sure?” Mary was always so clam and reasonable in moments like this, even when Katie felt irritation flaring in her chest. She laughed dryly.
“Because I’m me. Look at me, Mary! I’m not like you or Eddie who’s already way too pretty. And he’s just… Anthony.” The words were ripped from her chest, tears stinging at her eyes when she spat the truth out at her stepmother.
“Can you look at me please Katie?” Kate did after several seconds and a sigh. Mary was looking down at her so patiently, her hands in Kate’s hair soothingly.
“Sweetheart, I know you don’t believe me but you are so beautiful. And one day you’re going to realise it that you’re pretty, and smart, and funny and kind and all of those things are far more important than the fact you had braces fro two years.” Kate scoffed but Mary continued. “And of Anthony doesn’t like you, which I think you’re wrong about, then he’s not worth it.”
Katie sighed, not letting herself believe Mary. “Well you have to say that, you’re my Mum.” The words had slipped out before she’d even thought them, suddenly scared how Mary would react. Mary let out an odd choking noise tugging her into a tight hug for several long moments. Eventually Mary pulled back, a serious expression on her face. Kate’s stomach lurched.
“I know you don’t want to talk about this, but we have too. Katie, when two people have feelings for each other it’s natural too want to-” Kate pulled her arms away from Mary, her cheeks in fire.
“Mary! Please!” She whined, embarrassment threatening to swallow her whole. “I know how sex works, and I’m not having sex yet! I’m just going to watch him play Rugby.” She mumbled
“And that’s okay, Katie, but it’s also okay to want to be close to Anthony, and it’s natural to want to share things with him, and I’m not trying to embarrass you, I just want you too be safe. And Anthony seems like a really nice boy, but if he does something you aren’t comfortable with it’s okay to say no okay?” Kate forced herself to nod. “And if you have any questions, you can talk to me okay? No judgement.” Kate nodded again her cheeks burning as silence filled the room. Mary sighed, kissing her on the forehead as she stood from the bed.
“Well I think I’ve embarrassed you enough for one day.” She turned to leave and just as she reached the door, Katie couldn’t stop herself from asking.
“Umm Mary?” Mary turned back towards her with her eyebrows raised. “What if I tell Anthony I like him, but he doesn’t like me and then we can’t be friends anymore?” Her anxiety bubbling out of her like an unstoppable force. Mary smiled softly, leaning against the doorframe for a second.
“Katie, if you like someone you should tell them, and maybe I’m a little biased, but I’d be very surprised if Anthony didn’t like you.” And then she was gone and Katie was left on her bed trying to piece together what had made Mary believe that.

1. Okay let's be entirely honest you know who I'm going to ask about: you got any headcanons or thoughts on the gay old men? Wainlock enjoyer brainrot is permament I tell you.
2. LL is poggers as fuck, keep up the good work. If I had half as much Power I'd be talking about my secret-ish rewrite all the fucking time. You're poggers too lol
3. What's your opinion on Angel Lives AUs? Do you have any favorite variation of them? Perhaps your own spin on things?
1: I have so many thoughts on the Gay Old Men of Bl3.
I've covered Winny and Alistair a few times before in regards to how I felt they were such a well done set of characters to be added as a new relationship in Bl3, but something I don't think I touched on before is.. them.. being old? Well not old old, past middle age at least, and that was SUCH a damn breath of fresh air in a franchise that is so fucking weird about letting characters actually age. What was so great about them was something I'll touch on with Lorelai in an upcoming ask too - they were so natural. They weren't something "weird", to point attention at or frame as a focal point, they existed naturally within the game world. Their age, Winny's bald spot and blind eye, Alistair's joint issues and overall missing limb chunks, they existed as part of the chars but weren't crutches or limitations for the storytelling for them. They didn't *matter*. Wainwright outran an enraged Troy, who's probably half his age, because he knew the terrain of his family home better than the demigod. He's slower and half blind but 100% as capable. Alistair and him bicker and complain at each other like an old married couple without it being broadcast as a negative, a "This is what marriage is players, roll your eyes and laugh" bullshit trope that's attached to married characters WAY too often even in modern content.
HC wise I have a little idea that both are quite stoic when it comes to chronic pain and the results of all those injuries over the years, and discussing them or even feeling secure enough to raise them is something both men feel is quite an intimate act - only done with people close and trusted.
Opening up about a badly healed shin or the way old shotgun shell scars still burn on bad evenings was part of the conversations they had as time passed and they grew closer, as a relationship formed, and both have a habit of showing tenderness towards ailments they *know* the other suffers with now that they are married. Shoulder rubs, unspoken gifts of soothing creams, little things like that - they seem like average signs of affection to onlookers, but the men understand the intimacy of what they really mean.
2: Awwwwww.
Awww :) You too pal, I need to catch up on that actually... gimme till tomorrow.
3: Angel lives AHHHHH
Ok so - I'll be to the point with this: I don't actually think there was any benefit to her dying from a story POV. I knowww, I knowww, a lot of people will prob disagree with that, but I genuinely think she could have brought more to the stakes of fighting against Jack while being alive than dead, and it was a genuine waste of a long term BL character with a MASSIVE amount of backstory and lore power that we really could have done with. Angel not dying, but being left no longer a real Siren after being disconnected from Eridium? Being brought back to Sanctuary by shellshocked Vault Hunters who just lost Roland AND Lilith at the same time they found out they'd been led on by Jack and this girl they know wasn't at fault.. but .. also know she kind of was? Tannis and her? TANNIS AND HER? A de-powered socialy stunted Siren spending time with a Sirentologist who wouldn't bat an eye at any of her social awkwardness and show non stop intense interest in her as a person? Holy fuck. An actual reason for her to give Tannis her powers when her ill health eventually claims her? I just think that would have been a far better arc ( having her use her actual technical know-how to hack into Hyperion cannon connections and launch moonshots to support you during the Warrior fight while her father rages at all of you), than dying there and then and just being gone. Seeing this girl fight to protect a town she feels she owes the inhabitants of, even though they understandably may never forgive her for what she caused? That's a good character arc - letting her die just to get focus away from her and onto Lilith and Roland after was janky as hell from a storytelling POV. Jack could have hated you just as much for "turning his precious daughter against him" as he did you "killing her."

hi AHHHHH not bebop related + please don’t feel obligated to reply to this but I just wanted to say YES what’s going on right now with the marcoses is. So wrong and it baffles me how their supporters can’t (or choose not to) see that
I’m honestly really terrified because so many people I know (including my parents) support them and I just can’t wrap my head around how and most importantly WHY
Anyway thank you so much for always sharing your thoughts on what’s happening here :’) it truly needs to be talked about
- a fellow Filipino (merry christmas, po!)
it's really awful! it really drives me nuts because supporting the marcoses is such a morally bankrupt and selfish thing to do.
I like to study history a lot, and I'm especially interested in trying to untangle filipino history because nothing published under marcos can be trusted (I'm so sorry I'm using your ask to start rambling about how furious I am at how the government has been letting down filipinos since marcos msdfhgh) and a lot of what marcos did has created a gilded image for a lot of filipinos. you open a biography on rizal, marcos name is there. historical sites preserved credited to the marcos family. all of it creates this very beautiful image that distracts from the absolutely horrifying atrocities he committed, the people dead that were never found, the money stolen, the absolutely insane displays of wealth the family flaunted. the rich prospered, the poor suffered. he didn't preserve those sites or commission works or anything out of a moral imperative to preserve our history: it was propaganda to secure power.
he imprisoned a TV broadcaster for five years without trail and then exiled them and put one of his own people in charge. the same tv station that duterte spent a lot of time getting shut down.
I think a lot about how one of the marcos daughters threw a TEN MILLION DOLLAR WEDDING. I think about all those shoes imelda owns. they were listed in the panama papers. they should have been driven out of the country. they never should have been allowed to continue into politics. government corruption, self interest, and the way marcos destroyed freedom of speech made possible so that they stayed. the politicians who preach about honor and ideals let all of us down with their own self interest and greed.
and so many people in the filipino government let it slide because they benefitted from it! they were friends with the marcos family. there's an established blogger here I can't stand because she supported duterte, and duterte was a step for marcos to make a return. those families were always going to end up running on a ticket together. and the way that we have government officials who say that they aren't pro-dictatorship, but are friends with the marcos family? with duterte? who wanted to give marcos a hero's burial? and the department of education, oh my god. the way that the teaching of history washes the stains of extremely recent events is so frustrating, we shouldn't have so many books talking about how the dictatorship atrocities were definitely real, and yet we do because people keep denying them! people in positions of power!! what the hell!!!
I feel like people who support marcos think that somehow, if they do too, they'll get a slice of the gold and glory. they're willing to look past all the people who died because their own selfish desires and greed outweigh our heroes who fought tooth and bloody nail to keep from being under the foot of a tyrant. rizal didn't die for this. mabini didn’t get exiled for this. forget our heroes--- our own relatives, our own countrymen, our neighbors died. so many people died under that dictatorship, and one of the dictator’s daughter’s goes on tv and says enough time has passed. now marcos jr is running for office. the absolute disgrace of it all.
I hateeee that family so much. I didn't say anything when duterte was running. I regret it a lot. I hope that, even with the small audience I have, if I can somehow bring awareness to what marcos did or bring some kind of comfort by being angry when other people can't, then I'm glad!
(smdhghgh sorry again for using your ask to start ranting, I've been thinking about how marcoses destroyed history lately)
I'm sorry that your parents support marcos :( if you ever need to complain or vent about it, my ask box is always open! it's a scary time in politics for sure.
maligayang pasko at manigong bagong taon sa inyo po, anon!
#long post#omg this is so much. more writing than i thought. i am so sorry again i got so carried away anon#im hoping to vent some of my frustrations on my history blog bc i do feel like some people ignore like. the historical fact of it#bc there's so many people who are willing to cover up or outright deny it#and also bc ive been reading all those books historians have written about it and im thinking its time to start posting excerpts from it#i dont know if anything will change anyone's mind but i truly hope it can bring awareness or at least keep the marcos apologists away#from me if im loud enough about how furious i am that he's allowed to be taken seriously as a VP canidate#like he didn't throw a tantrum during the last election when he started falling behind in the points lmaooo#like. people what that kind of personality for VP????

📂 hmmm let's see... how about Toph?
aw Toph Beifong, how I love you,
Okay. So. First:
Obviously, Toph can tell when people are lying, but much like how the gaang always forgets that she’s blind, they forget that she’s a living lie detector. After the war ends, the kiddos are all obviously traumatized and always ask each other how they’re doing and they usually always say “fine” and Toph can feel that they’re lying but she just... doesn’t do anything. Sometimes it’s obvious a person is lying, but sometimes they can really pull it off and Toph is the only one who knows. She just lets them be, though, because she would want to be left alone too. In her mind, if it was a big enough deal, they wouldn’t say that they’re fine (also because that’s the reasoning she gives herself to not talk about her problems). She doesn’t want to push them.
Eventually, and let’s use Aang here because poor kid suffers so much trauma and no one really talks about that much (myself included, I need to pay more attention to Aang), Aang’s mental health really starts declining and everyone is really worried but Toph always lets it go because she doesn’t want to push him or stress him out. One time, it’s so bad that they ask Toph to out Aang for lying and she just shrugs and says “he wasn’t lying” even though he definitely was.
After a week or two like this, Aang kind of just breaks down and Toph instantly feels guilty because deep down she feels like she could have prevented it, but she didn’t. It’s one of those times when she learns that letting people believe a lie, no matter how good intentions are, is worse and more hurtful than telling the truth.
It kind of starts making her more honest than before. She began by calling everyone out on every little lie until she realized it would probably be better to talk to people in private and I just... mmm... I feel like Toph wields so much power after the war because everyone will always say “I’m fine” and she knows, she knows, they’re lying.
And now for an angsty Toph-related headcanon because I said so:)
Toph’s parents. Mmmm. I have not read the comics and also I heard they were... iffy... so we’re disregarding comics here. Toph’s parents kind of suck. Like, once she talks to them after the war, they treat her like a helpless child again and not the LITERAL HERO she is. She doesn’t live with them, but she wantsa relationship with them, even though she physically cannot make her say it out loud. So, eventually she blows up at them and Earthbends and her parents are like “okay, if you’re not a child, then start acting like an adult” and COMPLETELY misread the intention behind what Toph was saying. Ontop of that, they constantly complain about everything to her. Like trivial things. They complain about trivial things to a traumatized child (not to mention they did like nothing during the war smh, they just sat there and were rich). Like, they complain about each other to Toph say all of these things that she never wanted to hear ever and that no parents should actually burden their child with. Eventually she just... stops.
She just never answers letters, never returns to the city, much less the house. And it just... it kills her because she wanted to fix their relationship. She wanted to try and be a family again and she tried. She tried so hard but her parents never pit any effort in.
It was actually Zuko (or Azula...) who kind of made her realize. Like, I’m just gonna say: Sokka and Katara HATE Toph’s parents, like, with a burning passion. Toph offhandedly mentioned some of the terrible things her mom said about her dad and vice versa to the gaang and Katara was about to go give them the biggest lecture they had ever received. Katara lowkey got all mother hen (but sometimes Suki would have to drag her back and be like “you’re smothering her” so Toph wouldn’t feel like Katara was acting like her parents) (and again, Toph would never say it outloud, but she could never think of Katara in that way ever. She’s SUCH a better person than her parents could ever be) and would try and... not be the mother Toph never got to have, but give her the support she never had.
Anyways, Zuko or Azula talk to Toph and are like “take it from one abused child to another, your parents are abusing you” which just confirms the suspicions she had deep down but refused to believe. She was just filled with so much rage because it’s not fair and she was trying so hard but her parents really don’t care about her in the way that they should of and she gave them so many chances to be better but they never took it.
okay so, sadness over, let’s make Toph happy:)
Toph is asexual (and maybe aromantic, unsure as of right now) because I said so:))
Toph takes great pleasure in going to The Jasmine Dragon and just... listening to make sure no one is ever rude to Iroh or any of the other employees ever. If they are, she causes trouble so they can feel ashamed for being mean to people in food service.
no you know what? Am I going too overboard? Yes. Do I care? No. One friendship Toph headcanon for everyone in the gaang.
Aang: Toph and Aang both help remind the other that they’re children because they both forget sometimes. Toph is great at taking Aang away from work and making him take breaks and spend time for himself rather than others. Aang is great at giving Toph the “having friends as a child” experience she never had. He teaches her games he learned from all four nations as a child and sometimes they do really ‘childish’ things like playing bending tag or even like regular tag with each other just because it’s nice.
Katara: oooh the Toph and Katara friendship is one of my favorites in the show. The two are both ridiculously competitive. Like. Out of everyone in the gaang, they are the most competitive (let’s be real, Sokka is too petty and WE NEED TO FOLLOW THE GAMES RULES to be competitive and Zuko just gets angry and rage quits). But eventually, they learn that they’re stronger when they work together and make a competitive truce. So whenever people need to team up for games, they immediately go to each other and they destroy everyone.
Sokka: Sokka and Toph ahhhhh I love them so much. Sokka adopted Toph as his daughter-sister, as in he can’t choose whether he wants to replace her dad and be her dad or be the protective but not overly protective older brother she never had, so he calls himself “father-brother” and everyone hates it, but Sokka was never good at naming things. Also, one time they were really bored, so they decided to try and invent a language that is never spoken, but can be interpreted through Earthbending. Like, different methods of bending meant different things and stuff. It worked... kind of? Sokka likes learning and Toph likes kicking dirt and making people confused about what they were doing. They both have short attention spans, though, so they didn’t get far. They each still remember s=certain things and still talk through it (since Sokka is not an Earthbender, he taps his foot on the ground or kicks dirt a certain way. It’s kind of like morse code, bit different because only Toph can feel the taps).
Suki: Suki Suki Suki I love you! Suki is Toph’s go-to for fake relationships. Like. These two have been in a fake relationship with each other too many times to count. Toph’s parents invite her to a formal event but she needs to bring a date (and also she doesn’t want to go but she wants to repair the relationship)? Suki is her date. Suki needs to attend a royal event because she’s the highest Fire Nation palace guard (because I said so)? Toph comes as her date. A random person is hitting on either of them and they don’t know how to respond without unnecessary violence? Find the other and kiss their face.
Zuko: Zuko and Toph, what a pair. They both find beauty in nature (in different ways, obviously), so they’re walking buddies. They’ve gone on hikes together, like week-long hikes together. They’ll walk around the palace together... sometimes they’ll just sit together in silence because they don’t always need words to be friends.
Azula: (because yes, I am including the three girls): y’all. These two together can scare the entire world. Not just because they are actually insanely powerful, but because they make the most horrific self-deprecating jokes known to man and say it with intense seriousness that everyone has been genuinely worried at some point before they caught on (if it’s serious, they say it as a joke). One time, they both made these depressing jokes at lunch and Aang choked on his food. He didn’t die, but like. He was so unprepared that he choked. What I’m saying is, these two have a really weird relationship that takes place entirely through insults at each other, theirself, and everyone they love.
Ty Lee: Toph was actually scared of Ty Lee at first because of her chi blocking abilities. Not like terrified-scared, but like if you even take one more step towards me I will smash you with a boulder no matter your intentions-scared. Also, Ty Lee was so perky and kind of loud and Toph found that suspicious at first. It wasn’t like an Aang perky or loud, it was like... well, Toph couldn’t explain it (as in, I, op, cannot explain it), but it was a bit overwhelming? And then one time Ty Lee just. randomly visited her at her parents’ house even though they “weren’t friends” and Toph was just ????? but let her come in for dinner anyway because she kind of wanted to see how her parents would react to this peppy girl. Her parents ended up making a kind of snide remark at Toph’s expense during dinner (which was the usual but Toph didn’t realize it was a b u s e) and Ty Lee went off. That’s when Toph knew there were reasons to be terrified of this girl, but she would never be on the receiving end of her fury unless she really deserved it. They have very different family situations, but take pleasure in actually talking about it to each other. Because Ty Lee is a very open person and Toph is not. Toph thinks it’s nice to just let Ty Lee ramble on (kind of like Mai) and Ty Lee thinks Toph gives really good advice and has good insights (plus strives to help her feel more comfortable with her feelings). They become spontaneous buddies and randomly show up at each other’s houses when they’re living at home and it’s just nice.
Mai: last but never least, Mai and Toph! These two. feel for each other. so much. Rich kids, only children, parents who ignore them, ahhhhh, do you smell that? The repression of feelings:) Sometimes, they prefer to just be around each other because everyone else can kind of be overwhelming. They can communicate through few words and they both like throwing things, so they like sparring together a lot, It gives them a chance to throw things with another person who likes throwing things. For them, sparring is like this connection and it’s own method of loving each other (as friends do) and it’s just really nice for both of them.
Okay. I am done. Thank you, Grace, for fueling me.
I love Toph and I don’t give her enough attention.

Conversation
Wraithlike Stirrings
Commander Tiberius:
**(Memory)**
I fly the transport ship through the gate to the prearranged location. Our diplomatic party consists of myself, Claudius and Lastlight, as well as a handful of drones. It is safer for our Mother not to attend such unpredictable events in-person, and Father trusts me well enough to be comfortable remaining at her side.
As we near the meeting place, I gain a sense of my brother’s minds, and perceive a stark contrast. It is why I chose them to accompany me in the first place, the one balances the other. Yet in this case, neither temperament is ideal. Claudius is on edge, whilst Lastlight is perhaps too confident. I chide them both.
((It is in both parties’ interests to form an alliance. I do not expect trouble. Nevertheless, the wraith who is unprepared for trouble is the wraith that ends up captured or killed.))
I look to Lastlight at that last comment. He is brilliant, undoubtedly, but not unstoppable. He rolls his eyes at me, of course, but Claudius takes my words to heart. I sense his nerves turn to brave resolve, and I send him rare praise, before further addressing Lastlight.
((Queen Agrippina is unlikely to attend herself, but her daughter may be present. From all accounts, she is a noble Princess with a strong mind, so you might wish to be careful around her.))
I privately remind him of the time he was allowed to meet Princess Rubyrose; he acted like a babbling idiot for most of that meeting. Of course, Mother is already considering arranging a betrothal between the two, anything for darling Lastlight. She is much the same with our youngest brother, the newly-named Caelus. Though what she sees in him, I am less sure of. So far he seems… vapid… I sense that Father hardly approves either, not that he would ever outwardly question Mother’s decisions.
In any case, no matter Mother’s approval, Lastlight will have to wait. Even if Princess Rubyrose is agreeable to the match, my betrothal must come first as the eldest. I sense Lastlight is hopeful that I will be taken with this Princess today, if she does indeed attend the discussions. Hm, we shall see. I am not so easily impressed as him…
I land the ship and step outside onto the world of Aequus. This planet and worlds like it have long been used for negotiations, and are viewed as neutral ground. Wraith worshippers have also been allowed to settle here, so that they have a safe place to live and reproduce when not in service… and we have access to quick and easy meals during long discussions. Some of the humans approach us without fear, but I wave them away. I do not care for their pomp or adulation, they are as irrelevant to me as the trees, except for when I am hungry.
No sooner have we landed than I hear the sound of the stargate activating in the distance. It seems this hive also values punctuality, a good start. Moments later, their transport ship arrives. As soon as it comes into close proximity, I can sense her. I called her noble before, but the word does not do her justice. She is… perfection! Everything a true wraith Queen should aspire to be and more! Courageous, but not foolhardy; intelligent, but not to the point of detachment; caring of her men, but not at the cost of weakness. I had said earlier that I was not easily impressed, but how could any being not be overcome with devotion to such a mind? To such a Queen. To Princess Vipsania.
She emerges from the ship, and her appearance is just as breath-taking as her mind. Silvery blonde hair cascades down past her shoulders in ringlets. Its colour is only exemplified by outfit she wears; all black, with an air of both elegance and practicality. If her hair is silver, her eyes are gold, and as I look at them she holds my gaze. I sense her own fascination with my mind, and she boldly approaches ahead of her brothers. I can hardly breathe as she stops only a few feet away from me, never breaking eye-contact, and gives me a curious smile.
(Vipsania): “And who might you be?”
**
(Vipsania): “Tiberius… Please… help me.”
(Michael): “Set her free, Tiberius. Free her wretched head from her miserable shoulders.”
“AHHHHH!”
****
The first sensation that returns as I awaken is pain. All of those memories, times spent with Vipsania, with Lastlight… and then remembering how everything went to hell. Even now, cured as I am, I cannot bring to mind all that took place during her last few hours. However, there are certain parts that (memory drugs aside) will never leave me. Her screaming, her blood- so much blood- and sensing her mind weaken and fade throughout it all. I was so close to her, mere inches away, and yet there was nothing that I could do to stop it. All I could do was watch, and feel her pain alongside her. Until she gave me her final request. And I had to…
I block that memory, refusing to let it overwhelm me once more. I remind myself that, even in death, I did for her what I could. I sent her head (released from that awful box) into her favourite star, so that she would forever be a part of it. Not only that, but with her brain destroyed, Michael could never hurt her again. And now… now I can truly say that she has been avenged! She is no longer merely a distant memory in Michael’s mind- one of many countless Queens he caused the death of- and he surely rues the day that he ripped our lives asunder! For now he KNOWS my pain, both for my child and for Vipsania!
My thoughts turn from them, to the one who allowed me to gain my vengeance. Nala… in the end, I pity my unfortunate sister. Despite my best attempts, the actions the Lanteans had taken could not be undone. She was as much of a freak as Michael, though in a different way, one which was arguably more sympathetic. The desire to care for her brothers remained, yet her nature was too weakened and corrupted to be in any fit state to rule. Needless to say, the corruption was only made worse in the presence of Michael! I saw it in these past two weeks (the memories of which seem much like a waking nightmare in my head), and I saw it when I first brought her back to the hive, all those years ago. I knew then that I could not repeat Mother’s mistake. If the worst were to happen- if my attempts at teaching her civility were to fail, or worse, Michael were to reclaim her- countermeasures must be prepared. I would not allow her to fall back into the depths of depravity, and release another abomination back out into the galaxy. For our sake, but also for hers. If I could give my sister nothing else, then I would give her peace. Of course, if she had to die, and her death were to occur in front of Michael, I would not waste the opportunity to teach him such a lesson in grief…
My thoughts are interrupted as I hear Hypnos’ voice in my head, asking about my current condition. I send him my utmost praise and gratitude! I dread to think of what may have befallen us had he not made preparations. Or even more alarmingly, if he had informed Michael of what was to occur. He may be a scientist, but I owe him my freedom and my life. I will not forget such a debt.
His own mind pulses with a heavy sorrow. I… share his regret at the fate of Marcellus and Caelus. Telling them about the poison would have been too great a risk, it was wise of Hypnos to withhold that knowledge from us all. However, it meant that they were ill-prepared for the escape, and circumstances being what they were at that debauched ‘celebration’, we had no choice but to leave them behind. My instincts were right in what I said to Hypnos afterwards, that we should not attempt a rescue for them, but only now do I have full insight into my reasonings. Any signs that we care for their predicament will only encourage Michael to use them against us. It was my mistake, my terrible mistake, to go back for Vipsania. I will not allow that to happen twice! If he sees no use for them on my behalf, if he believes that I do not care… they are nothing to him, he bears them no ill will, he will surely gift them the mercy of a quick death for their ‘loyalty’ in staying behind. Such is my hope, that they do not have to remain with him and suffer in his atrocious ‘kingdom’ for long.
My own time spent there… how do I even begin to process all that happened… and yet process it I must, if I wish to be in a position to address the men. I must face the humiliation and share all of my memories with them, first and foremost so that they understand the dangers of being captured by Michael. The recollections will also provide my brothers with all of the intelligence I was able to glean whilst I was… worse than a prisoner… a shell of a man…
The first attempt, ‘Tibby’, was undoubtedly the worst. Not for the many human acts I was compelled to perform- degrading as they were- but for the sickening emotions imprinted into my mind. The ‘happiness’ at being with the abomination, the ‘love’ I felt for the thing that hurt not one, but two of my Queens, my Father and so many of my brothers. I had thought that I could experience no more shame, after failing my siblings, Queen and child, but truly they all would have loathed me, to see me in such a state.
The second attempt was perhaps not as humiliating as the first, but I was still just as pathetic a creature in many ways. All of those weaklings whose foolish behaviour I was ordered to endure; the human children, the warped wraith scientist, the hordes of Michael’s hybrid freaks. Should any ever cross me again, my blade hand is ready. Then again, most of them will likely die long before they could ever track me down, either from their own stupidity, or from Michael’s disgusting new infection. As for Michael himself… being subjected to those ridiculous verbal battles with him... that is, when Nala was not present and he indulged her delusional, human-like family ‘games’… Well, such weakness on his own behalf is what allowed me to destroy that horrific planet. As for what strategy is to be employed against him next… well, that is a conversation to have with my remaining brothers. I have dwelt long enough on the past.
I make my way to the hibernation pods, blocking anything that is not useful or needed out of my head. As Father always taught me, I must be strong for them. The hybridisation alone will be a heavy blow for my brothers to take in when they awaken. How they will handle the news of all that has transpired, I cannot say. Nevertheless, I owe them every detail of the truth. Unlike Michael, I will not lie or make excuses for my actions. I will not beg for their forgiveness, and if they consider my actions to be regicide, I will do my duty and undergo exile.
I inform Hypnos of my plans, and send the few drones we have left to the bridge to relieve him. I give him the option of rest, but he chooses to join the others. I meet him at the entrance to the hibernation chamber and, when we are both ready, I deactivate all of the pods.

Lately, I've found myself drawn to stories ( and I mean drawn to as in envisioning those stories in my head, thinking them through to the very last detail, not reading, let alone writing them down, because I've long since accepted that they will never turn out quite the same on the paper ) where Red is the one who'd been seriously hurt and, therefore, rendered unconscious for an indefinite amount of time and worried Liz is the one who doesn't leave his side, hoping and praying and pleading that he would wake up. Probably, something that has to do with how unfair it is that we've seen Red keep vigil by hurt!Lizzy's side – playing music for her, holding her hand, reading to her etc. – a number of times and yet, over the course of 8 seasons, never have ever been allowed the pleasure of seeing Liz do the same for him ( not even when he was shot – because she left to retrieve the Fulcrum and couldn't come back until the fight was over – or when he was poisoned – because she'd been waiting to be cleared to see him and he ran away the moment he wasn't actively dying, because that's Red for you all ), even though she loves and cares about him as much as he loves and cares about her.
I mean, just imagine the possibilities!
Liz pacing around the waiting area of Red's mobile hospital while he's in surgery, unable to think about anything else other than how he looked – battered and broken and barely alive – when they've found him and how his head rested in her lap ( she could almost convince herself that he was merely dozing, if he wasn't so deathly pale and still and there wasn't so much blood on his clothes and her clothes and her hands and the backseat of the car ) and his hand was limp in her death grip as they rushed him to his doctors and she whispered words of reassurance and encouragement to him even though she knew he couldn't hear her and how she had to fight the instinct to curl around her lover and snarl at anyone who would come close because she can't let him be hurt further as the medics took him away from her, exchanging observations and orders that didn't sound particularly reassuring. She's also acutely aware of the fact that Red is fighting for his life – there, just a few feet away from her – and, though he's the strongest man she's ever known, he may not win, and so she makes a promise to the empty air in front of her that she will kill him herself if he dares to give up on her and Agnes like that now, when they've just reached the good, right place in their relationship, just confesses their feelings to each other. At some point, Dembe most certainly pulls Liz in for a hug, letting her cry in his shoulder, doing his best to comfort her ( even though there's nothing that can bring her more comfort than Red's hug, when he – alive and whole – wraps his arms protectively around her and holds her close and lets her hide from the whole world in his arms, his chest, his shoulder and neck – wherever she prefers to burrow her face at the time – and the memory itself makes her cry harder, because there's a possibility that he will never hug her like that again ), even though he's just as worried and scared as she is, and Mr Kaplan helps Liz clean up, washing away Red's blood from her hands and producing seemingly out of the thin air fresh clothes for her to change into.
Red, of course, pulls through the surgery, beating all odds, and Liz's heart floods with relief at the good news before sinking when the doctor explains to her and Dembe and Mr Kaplan the extent of Red's injuries and that it's impossible to say when – or even if – he wakes up.
And so the waiting game begins. Liz doesn't leave Red's side, holding his hand, stroking his knuckles with her thumb and never letting go, constantly talking to him and reading to him and even asking Dembe to bring the record player and some records from the Bethesda apartment to play to him, hoping that it would elicit some kind of response from him. Yet, as they days go by, there's not a single, smallest sign that he's aware of anything that's going on around him, that he's still there somewhere and is trying to find his way back to her, to them – he doesn't stir, doesn't so much as flutter his eyelashes, and Liz grows more desperate with each passing day, even though the doctor assures her that Red's slowly but surely improving ( but she can't see it with her own eyes, and if she can't see it, she's less likely to believe it, the more time passes with him just lying there, undisturbed by the loud, chaotic world around him ).
And then there's Agnes... While Liz keeps vigil at Red's bedside, the babysitting duties are split equally between Aram and Samar, Charlene and Cooper, Ressler and Audrey and Dembe and Mr Kaplan. Yet more often than not whoever picks little Agnes up from school and / or her ballet classes brings her over to the safe-house where Liz and Red are. She doesn't seem to be as unnerved by Red's state as her mommy is, climbing on his bed each time she visits ( after giving her mommy the biggest hug, of course ) and leaning in close to him, examining his face thoughtfully before half-asking, half-stating "He's still tired, mommy?". And Liz usually replies with a hoarse "Yes, baby" because she doesn't trust herself not to get choked up if she tries to answer more eloquently. Agnes simply nods then, satisfied with the explanation why he hasn't woken up yet, and settles against Red's side – mindful of his injuries and the spider web of wires and tubes connecting him to all sorts of monitors and machines – and either naps ( especially, on ballet classes days ) or tells her mommy and Red ( she talks to him just like Liz does much too easily – promising him to show him the new moves she's learnt when he wakes up etc. – as if she's already done that before or seen anyone else do that... unbeknownst to Liz, she did both – when Liz herself was in a coma, Agnes both saw Red talk to her mommy and was encouraged by him to talk to her, too, because it may help her mommy sleep easier and maybe she'll get better sooner and finally wake up ) about her day or does her homework or draws ( more often than not, she draws either cards for Red to read when he wakes up or just things she wants him to see ). And when the time comes for her to leave, she always kisses Red on the cheek, wishing him "sweet dreams" and to get better soon, and then gives her mommy, who tries so very hard not to tear up but fails miserably, a hug and a kiss, too, and tells her frequently that she shouldn't cry because Red is just too tired, just like she – Liz – once was, and that he just needs to sleep a bit more.
And when the door behind Agnes closes and Liz is sure her daughter won't see / hear her, she breaks down hard, in big, ugly sobs, because her little girl shouldn't be acting so naturally in this kind of situation and because she wishes so hard that Red just woke up, because she can't do this, any of this, without him.
In the end, once his body has healed itself enough and he regained enough of his strength, Red, of course, does wake up. It's a slow process, and Liz thinks she might either faint or go mad from the overwhelming feelings that are swirling inside of her when Red moves for the first time in what seems to her like forever – squeezing her hand feather-lightly – and when he leans slightly, unconsciously into her touch when she strokes his cheek – out of habit, without even expecting any sort of reaction from him and being pleasantly surprised – and when he opens his eyes for the first time – it's a brief occurrence, with his eyes slipping shut tiredly again after just a few moments, and he's still pretty much out of it, apparently, not even noticing her presence by his side, but for Liz it's a major event – and when he finally, finally looks directly at her – alive and conscious and alert – and calls her "Lizzy". He's still weak and his voice sounds terrible and Liz knows she shouldn't let all of her pent-up feelings – the fear and despair and frustration and love and relief and exhaustion – out on him like that – he's just woken up, after all – but she can't hold back the tears nor the jumbled mess of "thank you"s and "I love you"s and " "I've missed you"s and "I'm so so happy you're back" and "I was so worried" and "Don't ever scare me like that again" that spills from her lips as she leans in to kiss him lightly and give him the gentlest of hugs...
(Since I'm not a ficwriter and, therefore, have no intentions of using this pile of ideas/images/feelings myself, I wouldn't mind at all if you or any other writer drew inspiration from this rambling of mine)
Ahhhhh 😭😭😭 Are you sure you're not a fic writer, anon?? Cause this reads like some quality hurt/comfort to me!! 🥲🥲 Honestly, this is a lovely scenario to imagine & it gives me a slightly bitter sense of satisfaction to think of Liz suffering through just a fraction of the time Red spent by her side while she was in her coma... especially if it's the catalyst for fEeLiNgS to emerge tee hee bc, you're RIGHT, we were woefully deprived of those situations in the show & I'll never not be sad about it tbh. More specifically, things I love the most about this in no particular order: Liz having to "fight the instinct to curl around her lover & snarl" *swoon*, Liz swearing she will kill him herself if he dies LMAO, Dembe hugging her for comfort & Mr. Kaplan helping her get cleaned up 🥺🥺🥺, Liz playing records for Red yasss, AGNES & everyone taking turns babysitting her while she misses her Daddy desperately but deals with the situation with a maturity & grace beyond her years in an effort to help her grieving Mommy through it cool cool mkay mkay, Liz only breaking down once Agnes leaves OWWW, anddddd Liz being a blubbering mess when Red finally wakes up & calls her "Lizzie" & they kiss *whispers* it's fine, i'm fine 🙃 IN CONCLUSION, I love this anon, thank you for sharing this lovely little AU with me!! 🥰 And much, much love to you, of course, my friend!! ❤️
#The Blacklist#Lizzington#Agnesgate#thoughts#headcanons#mine#ask#anon#ughhhhhhhh#this mini fic is packed with feels#and punched me right in the face#thank you for this gift anon#:')#much love!!#<3

Reddie Fanfic Masterlist
the amazing works that have changed my life (also using this to organize myself)
tear it with your teeth by belby | 32.1k
"We could leave this place, Eddie," Richie says. "God, imagine that? Not having to live in this trash dump anymore. We could go wherever we wanted. A different place every night."
notes: reddie from ages 15-18. this one hurts (but it’s incredibly beautiful)
It's Not My Fault! by shanisafan | 92.7k
“I want to be there for you when things get hard just as I know you will be there for me. Ben wrote his poem by me talking about how much I think I’m not good enough for you.”
“Richie -“ Eddie squeezed the other boy’s hands.
“I’m serious Eddie. I’m not. I’m selfish to take someone off the market who is as great as you. So I want to thank you for everything. Here’s to you and whatever happens next.”
notes: read this for the characterization wow! perfect amount of fluff and angst
Lovesong Series by WaxAgent | 164.9k
They're all connected, sure, but nothing comes close to the iron bonds between Richie Tozier and Eddie Kaspbrak; they have their ups and their downs, but they always have each other. A look at their lives from leaving Derry to being dragged back by a promise than both of them had long forgotten.
notes: this work has not been updated since 2018 but it is incredibly amazing, mind blowing and i just wanna cry and talk about it with someone, please suffer with me
the years go by like days by georgiestauffenberg |121.9k
It’s Eddie he wants to get a hold of, though, and he does, tucking him under his arm, and ruffling his hair, making him laugh. He’s startled when Eddie looks at him with such happy, shining eyes. And, for a split-second, he’s tempted to kiss him right then, right there in front of everyone.
He wants to. Badly. He doesn’t.
He leans in, instead, and he smacks a loud, wet kiss to Eddie’s cheek, punctuating it with a “mwah!” He does it again and again. “I’m so proud of my little Eds Spagheds!”
“Get off me!” Eddie says, laughing and shoving him away, swatting at his hands.
AU. in the 27 years in-between, Richie and Eddie forget a lot, but they don't forget each other.
notes: THE reddie fic
in the heat of the summer (you're so different from the rest) by kaboomslang | 109.5k
There’s a heatwave in L.A., the first time Richie sees Eddie naked.
or
One very hot year in the life of two idiots in love, working shit out.
notes: the author’s Meticulous with a capital M. one of my favorite characterizations of richie! and the love confessions are lovely!!
not exactly where i need to be (and yet it seems so close) by varnes | 49.3k
Richie runs all the way to Eddie’s. He has a bike but he can’t remember, just now, where he put it. Everything feels real, feels — the gravel hurt his shoeless feet, his lungs burn when he gets tired, there’s a cut on his chin that aches a little. It feels real but things always felt real, with It.
You can’t trust how you feel or what you see. That’s the core of the terror of It. That everything is real and nothing is real and all of it can kill you.
Richie clambers up the drainage pipe and shoves open Eddie’s window. He’s afraid to look. He’s afraid of what It has prepared for him.
But it’s nothing. It’s just Eddie, small, young, cast still on his arm. He’s curled up on his side and is using the cast as the world’s worst pillow.
“Holy shitballs what the fucking shit,” breathes Richie, lunging forward to fling himself on top of Eddie’s sleeping form. “Don’t scream, don’t scream, hey — Eddie! Eddie, shut the fuck up, you’re going to wake your mom, it’s me! It’s me.”
---
OR: Richard Tozier goes to sleep on a plane in 2016, and wakes up in 1989.
notes: time travel AU, i’d sell my soul to the devil if it meant getting to read this for the first time again ahhhhh
as the ghost begins to bleed by ShowMeAHero | 208.3k
Richie refuses to let Eddie stay dead. When he says he'll do anything to get Eddie back, he means anything.
notes: THE canon fix-it au
maybe i’m breaking up with myself by Anonymous | 59.3k
Underneath Derry, Richie Tozier is caught in the Deadlights. At that moment, across the country in the thick summer heat of Los Angeles, Henley Tozier passes out cold.
Three minutes pass, and Eddie Kaspbrak is impaled through the chest. At that exact same time, Atticus Kaspbrak clutches at his stomach, where a knife-sharp inexplicable pain is blooming.
notes: eddie has a son and richie has a daughter. a fix-it & everyone lives au, with the CUTEST children the losers could have. love love love
Skeleton Key to My Heart by Amuly | 31.2k
After they kill that fucking clown, Richie is left with a broken arm, a list of bad baseball comedy jokes, and one beautiful, dedicated nurse by the name of Eddie Kaspbrak. But then Richie's manager Steve rushes to his side, and Richie's seeing double as the two most important men in Richie's life square off to see who can Handle Richie Tozier's Shit the best. Which isn't a bad problem to have, in Richie's book--he just wishes they could figure out how to get along.
notes: i love the reddie dynamic in this. i enjoyed reading this so much!!!!

Baby, I'm Counting On You by PuddingTown | 109.7k
When Richie Tozier breezes back into his hometown of Derry, Maine, he’s expecting to see familiar faces. Of course, he’s not expecting to see an old flame chasing around a baby. With a million questions, nowhere to go, and a help wanted ad for a nannying job, he finds himself at the doorstep of Eddie Kaspbrak.
notes: i’ve loved domestic reddie but it’s also angsty. this is (re)self-discovery by richie tozier
ribs by mikeshanlon | 93.9k
Almost every time the lights turn off and they cram in the shitty twin bed, Richie seems to become a different person. Maybe not different, per say, but the stupid jokes and teasing die down, the guard of nonchalance dropping. Eddie feels lucky to see this side of Richie, soft and caring-- vulnerable. It’s not like he hates the other side of Richie, he secretly enjoys their constant banter and his dumb jokes. No, it’s that this side is rare, and it’s something beautiful. Here, safe in the soft flannel sheets, it feels like they are the only two souls for miles, and they can be themselves, and that is terrifying and reassuring all at once.
“I’m gonna miss this. When we go off to college,” Richie admits, the weight behind his words telling Eddie he felt the same about their shared nights.
“Yeah,” Eddie agrees softly, “Me too.”
notes: the losers’ senior year. this has made me laugh pretty hard and cry just as much. makes me nostalgic but in the best way. go give it the love it deserves
Running up that hill by speakslow | 59.6k
When Eddie Kaspbrak's mother gets remarried, she sends him off to Catholic boarding school. Will it be exactly what he pictures: same old prison, new location? Or will it be something else entirely?
my oh my god they were roommates story, loosely inspired by Dead Poets Society (but it's set in the fall of 1992)
notes: the last update was this past week so i read the entire thing again and oh my god let me hug everyone. all the losers are pretty prominent in this and i love that. lowkey enemies to friends to lovers?

VF Dante Chapter 5: Ebb and Flow
The two go after the heroine who has been taken by Joshua. Dante has no further doubts…
~*Scene: VF Captain’s Cabin*~
Felicita: Zzz
~*Flashback: VF Deck*~
Dante: Right now, your family is something I’ve sworn to protect—
Dante: And they are my future!
~*End Flashback*~
Joshua: …His “future”…
Felicita: *wakes up*
Joshua: I see you’ve awaken, Princess of Regalo
>That fog…
>Where’s Dante?
Joshua: It is one of “Justice’s” Arcana powers
Joshua: I remember…using it to protect the island a long time ago
Joshua: Your beloved and Ash should be headed this way
Joshua: You will see him soon…
Joshua: I’d tell you to relax, but I doubt you trust me
Felicita: …
Joshua: This is off topic but, are you the daughter of Arcana Famiglia’s Papa?
~*Flashback: VF Staircase*~
Dante: Did you know that in the past, Mondo was even more unreasonable than he is now?
Dante: He thought the way he was raised was wrong. So, he was always very strict on the son he had with his first wife
Dante: …As a result, that son rebelled by running away
~*End Flashback*~
Joshua: I see Mondo hasn’t changed…has he already forgotten about me?
>There’s no parent who doesn’t care about their child!
>You’re the reason Papa dotes on me so much?
Joshua: …Yes. I agree
Joshua: Right now…I’m actually in the same situation. But it might be too late…
Joshua: Is that what happened after I left? *laugh*…should I apologize then?
Joshua: I’m sure you know that’s also part of his love
Joshua: *laugh*…Your father may be strange, but he is very kind
Joshua: I wish I could have seen him again while I was still myself
Felicita: !
Joshua: Take these… I’m sorry for being a terrible older brother
Joshua: …Ah, I’m, out of, time…
(*grab) (*whish)
Joshua: …I have you. My sister… “Wheel of Fortune”
~*Scene: VF Staircase*~
Ash: So just to be clear. You really weren’t Strawberry Head’s dad, old man?
Dante: No! Ojou-san’s father is the top of “Arcana Famiglia”
Dante: He’s the first person you must see when you come to the island
Ash: Who said I was going?
Dante: We’ll talk about that later. Saving Ojou-san comes first
Ash: Still, I did think something was weird between you two. But I didn’t expect you had that kind of relationship
Dante: Yes, it is “that kind”
Dante: Hm? That looks like…
Luca: Dante! …And, you!!
(*crackle)
Ash: The useless alchemist. Relax. I’m not in the mood to fight
Debito: Well, I’m not going to waste my strength either. Luca, cut the damn flames
Luca: Guh… You all have such foul mouths
Dante: I’ll take responsibility for Ash. We have more important things to do
Ash: Yeah. The old baldy is going to go save his amore
Luca/Debito: Amore?
Ash: You’re his friends, right? Then help
(*glare) Luca: Dante, how exactly did you explain who Ojou-sama was!?
Dante: Well, a lot happened…
Dante: But I fully understand that enjoying myself in this situation wasn’t proper as your superior and—
Debito: Ugh, you’re going to brag now? I’m not listening to this…so I’ll go ahead
Dante: Of course, when we get back I’ll be sure to…
(*smile) Luca: …When we return to the mansion, I’m sure you’ll need time to speak with your “amore”
Dante: No, actually I was…
Nova: There you are, Dante!
Nova: Why are you muttering to yourself? And I’d like an explanation regarding the guy behind you
Nova: Jolly said he was leaving the captain’s cabin to Pace and Liberta. We should get back as soon as possible
Nova: I’m glad we were able to regroup, but now…I feel uneasy about them
Nova: And, Dante. Why is there steam coming out of your head?
Dante: S-steam!?
Ash: People who group together really are laidback…
Dante: L-let’s go!!
Fukurota: Hoot…
Dante: You’re worried about Ojou-san too, huh Fukurota?
Dante: It’ll be alright. I promise I’ll save her
~*Scene: VF Deck*~
Jolly: The fog has cleared so now is our chance
Jolly: We’ll finish this while the “Justice” Tarocco is still dormant…
Jolly: I’ll leave the skeletons to you two
Pace: You got it!!!
Liberta: Hehe…here I stand, against a countless sea of skeletons
Liberta: Yeaaaah!! This is so exciting!
Liberta: Hiyaaah!!
Jolly: This ship was created using the same principles as the Tarocco…how very interesting
Jolly: It’s also full of things that pique my interest
Jolly: I’ll make sure it serves Regalo to the fullest…
Pace: Let’s hurry home and have lasagna!!
~*Scene: VF Captain’s Cabin*~
Felicita: !
Joshua: I can’t lose this host…before returning to the Tarocco…
Joshua: Now, change my relationship with my host into the form I desire, “Wheel of Fortune”
>What does that have to do with losing your host?
>The “Wheel of Fortune’s” power…
Joshua: If I lose him, it will be too late
Joshua: Are you really a contractor if you don’t use your power?
(*crash!)
Felicita: !
Dante: You treat your sister much too roughly, Tarocco of “Justice”!
(*glare)
Felicita: !?
~*Scene: VF Deck*~
Joshua: …Do you know why…I haven’t been able to find a new contractor for so long?
Felicita: …
Joshua: Hah!!
Felicita: !
Dodge!
>Hit

>Miss
(-50 Amore)
Felicita: *dodge*
Dante: Hah!!
Dante: I don’t know any of the specific rules between Tarocco and their contactors
Dante: You’ll have to ask your creator, or an alchemist who studies your power
Dante: All I know is that “the cards choose their hosts”
(*hoist)
(*whoosh) Dante: Uryaaah!!
Joshua: Hah!!
Felicita: *dash*
Felicita: Hya!
Attack!
>Hit

>Miss
(-50 Amore)
Felicita: *dodge*
(*whack) Felicita: Ah!
Dante: Ojou-san!!
Joshua: I was in a lone slumber after my host passed, you wouldn’t understand how I feel…
Joshua: With power beyond your knowledge, we Tarocco can control our hosts
Joshua: Using this host, I can even stay in this world forever by my own will…
Dante: …So it’s already lost all reason…
Joshua: Who decided what was “reasonable”? Humans?
Dante: Then I ask you. Why do the cards choose “humans”?
Dante: Beside the Tarocco, there are many things that hold great power…like guns, or important documents
Dante: If that power brings blessings and wealth—
Joshua: Grrraaa!!
(*rumble) Joshua: Find your way to despair…Un Labirinto Atmosferico
Dante: It can also cause suffering depending on its wielder’s ambition and intent
Dante: If that happens, I will put a stop to it
Dante: Let all be swallowed by the storm, and return to nothing…
Dante: Dare un Ordine! (TN: To give an order)
Felicita: …
(*dash) Felicita: Yah!
Attack!
>Hit
(+50 Amore)
>Miss
(-50 Amore)
(*whack) Joshua: Gaaah!
(*dodge) Joshua: …!!
Dante: If someone doesn’t take the first step, then nobody will
Dante: And I want to be that “someone”
(*crash!)
Joshua: Graaaaah…!!
>I admire you, Dante
(No Amore)
>I want to stand by your side, Dante
(+20 Amore)
>I want to support you, Dante
(+10 Amore)
Dante: Can I really become a good role model?
Dante: But, I’m satisfied being your guide…
Dante: Hahaha! Usually you stay behind so I can protect you. Isn’t that logical?
Dante: But…since you’ve chosen to be by my side—
Dante: I’m happy to hear that
Dante: You’ll support me? You’re quite confident, aren’t you?
Felicita: *mad*
Dante: I know. I’m probably already relying on you a lot

❤≪Dante≫ Seems concerned
Pleasure: Ojou-san and Liberta both saved me
Person: I can’t let my guard down
Link: Saving Joshua will also be my repentance
Liberta: Geez, Dante! Focus! Is that skeleton the leader!?
Joshua: Ahhhhh…
Dante: Joshua…
Dante: …Ojou-san, is it possible for you to save him using the power of “The Lovers”?
❤≪Dante≫ Tarocco
Person: Ojou-san should be able to use her powers without issue now
Link: Saving Joshua will also be my repentance
Arcana: I’m not just denying our powers
Dante: “Justice” has lost sight of its true self…so use your powers to see what it truly wants
Dante: You should be able to do that now
Felicita: Okay
>It must…not really want to be apart
>”Gli Amanti”, lend me power
Gli Amanti: How interesting
Gli Amanti: I’m not the only one who likes my host
Gli Amanti: The power of your love has certainly grown
Gli Amanti: I can see that, so I will gladly lend my power
Gli Amanti: “La Giustizia” is confused…it wants to return, but is attached to its host
Gli Amanti: When it awakened, its host had no need for it, so perhaps it is resentful
Gli Amanti: It isn’t enough to need “La Ruota della Fortuna’s” power like it desires
Gli Amanti: Well, that’s all I can do
Gli Amanti: Continue to nurture your love, my master…
Felicita: !
Dante: Joshua…was set free?
❤≪Dante≫ Seems concerned
Person: Joshua looks…
Arcana: So “The Lovers” has provided the answer
Place: This light is…
Joshua: The Tarocco couldn’t return…because of my regrets…?
Dante: That’s just how you see it. “Justice” has already returned to its card
Dante: That was to be its fate sooner or later
Joshua: Fate guides us…you mean
Dante: …You understand, right Ojou-san?
Dante: The Tarocco was created by a human, and have not only power, but also emotions and a will of their own
❤≪Dante≫ Tarocco
Pleasure: Ojou-san seems to be friendly with her Tarocco
Arcana: The relationship between humans and that Tarocco is unknown but profound
Person: Joshua looks…
Dante: All we can do is struggle as we are manipulated by the Tarocco’s great power
Dante: Since it seems that is what they desire
Liberta: Dante! Where’d the leader skeleton go?
❤≪Liberta≫ Seems concerned
Pleasure: It’s so bright
Person: The one with clothes is the leader, right?
Daily: I haven’t fought it yet!
Dante: The leader of the skeletons…returned to where it belonged

Liberta: Aw, really. It ran away? …But, this view is really nice…
❤≪Liberta≫ Seems shocked
Daily: But I didn’t get to fight it
Place: Now we just have to get home to Regalo!
Dante: Yeah…
Joshua: …What kind of place is Regalo?
Liberta: Huh!? Why’re you asking that?
Joshua: I’m asking because you’re the one who’s here. Regalo was the destination of my journey
Dante: …Answer him, Liberta

Liberta: Dante? Oh, okay. You look like a ghost, so I’ll tell you before you go
❤≪Liberta≫ Seems concerned
Place: He knows Regalo?
Pleasure: Talking to a ghost will make for a great story later
Liberta: Regalo’s the best! There should be tons of flowers blooming right now, and everyone’s really nice
Liberta: …You should visit in your next life!
Joshua: Yes. I hope to as well. Thank you…

Dante: It’s alright now…
Dante: But our feelings for each other have changed since then

Note
ahhhhh I started mistborn the final empire and I have so many emotions, I've been reading too much ya where they always have those weird age gap romances when they could've actually been doing father daughter relationships!!!!!
the scene where he first teaches her allomancy is immaculate - I was not expecting yeden to try to take the garrison and now the army's numbers are down
i love vin so much her and elend are so cute but oh my god kelseir is one of the best characters I've ever read I love him so much - always with the smile eventhough he has trauma!!!
Vin going off on him about how he's also a nobleman not a skaa then kelseir goes to comfort her - she still loves reen despite the damage he caused her because of how he conditioned her and her learning to trust everything is making me so emotional I relate to her so much
I have a theory that lord ruler found a way to combine feruchamy and allomancy and that's how he's powerful - and vins abilities are powerful because of her birth father
Ive got a few chapters left and honestly I've always been someone who got spoiled so now I don't care anymore about them but I need to know because I have a feeling kelseir will die and I needto be prepared
I’m assuming you’re around chapter 30-33 based on these so I won’t comment on anything that happens around that time or after it BUT THIS IS THE MOST EXCITING NOTIFICATION I’VE EVER RECEIVED. I could talk about this series for days and it is evident by the lenght of this answer lmao.
Kelsier is quite honestly the best character Sanderson’s ever written and I stand by that despite the fact he’s gotten much better with characterization and character development in general over the course of his career. He stands out as a protagonist because he is right between good and bad. Fantasy often looks at morality in black and white terms, even when you have morally gray characters they have a code of ethics that restrains them and makes them approachable to readers. Kelsier? Kelsier is pretty utilitarian. He will do what needs to be done and he will not feel remorse. If it involves throwing a rich guy’s corpse in somebody’s else’s bushes what does he care. He’s so damn likeable anyway. Because is he wrong? Shouldn’t the nobleman suffer for the system they uphold? There’s a lot of discussions to be had there and I love it when books do that.
That confusing morality is woven into the story. What exactly is his secret? Why is he making himself into something larger than life? And you get to question him right along with the characters. Mistborn in general has such great commentary on who can make it in this world and what it takes for them to make it but Kelsier is a prime example of it, along with Marsh - the way they parallel each other drives me insane, and it is probably my favorite sibling dynamic in any media I’ve ever consumed.
He is a really fun mentor figure too. It was a nice use of the trope because he’s not an old wise man - he’s just a guy with a couple of friends trying to overthrow a god. And it sounds like that the connection between the two of them wouldn’t be as strong because of it. Because he is not a father figure. He makes terrible decision regarding Vin at times (*cough* Kredik Shaw... Dockson is a legend for yelling at him for that one). However, he focuses so much on her trust and comfort which no one ever did. Reen cared for her in a sense of survival, keeping her alive was all he could do. Kelsier wants to keep her safe, though the very job he assigned her means she can’t be. His inner-conflict of what to do with her in those terms is also a great read.
And to stop my rambling, the found family of it all! She’s not there because she’s on a payroll, she’s not there because she has nowhere else to go. He gave her opportunities to leave and she stayed because she was treated as an equal and because she enjoys their company.
Also every interaction Breeze and Ham have is gold. Most of the interactions the crew has are gold.

Abandoned building
"I know some of you may think it's crazy going to an abandoned building to film a YouTube video whilst 37 weeks pregnant.. but I cant let my 2.3 mil subscribers down! Plus it should be super safe! I mean, theres an open door right where we park, so not long to walk and straight in! No climbing!" Said Kat to her viewers whilst sat in the back of Poppy's car. There were 6 people in total, Kat and Joe, the mommy and daddy to be, Poppy, Kats best friend. Then Corey, Daniel and Dave, the guys who Kat wanted to collab with, they knew each other from elementary but hadn't been close for a long time, Joe and Poppy didnt know them at all.
She had noticed that morning that she wasnt feeling great and it seems that the morning sickness had come back, but she agreed to do this video so she persisted and hey! She had her boyfriend with her after all. Kat and Joe had been together a long time and it was about time they should have a baby, Joe was thrilled, Kat was too but she still felt she could take on the world whilst carrying a human.
They agreed that Poppy would drive seeing as Kat was 37 weeks pregnant and felt uncomfortable driving now. They arrived at the abandoned building as it was going dark, Joe wasnt at all phased by spirits but the rest were hyped and ready to go.
'Hey man, I'm Daniel"
"Joe, nice to meet you"
Joe could instantly tell Daniel was a jerk. At this point in time, whilst everyone was setting up cameras, Poppy chatted to Kat whilst having a smoke.
Kat made sure that nobody was around and quickly said to Poppy "Pops, dont tell Joe, I've been having twinges all morning, I'm super nauseous and I think theres a pattern in the pain, I dont want to tell him because he already cant believe I've come here 9 months pregnant"
Poppy exclaimed "Yeah I'm not surprised, look, videos can wait, let's go back to your apartment and order uber eats, I dont think its wise to stay here" and quickly, Kat snapped "I wont be able to come back here for a long time and I need to film this video, were like 3 hours from home now anyway so let's just film".
It's been a few hours and they had filmed the majority of the scheduled videos. Kat is exhausted at this point and hasn't suffered in pain too much, but she has noticed her belly getting heavier and harder through out filming. They get ready to call it a night and hear a noise from outside, young people, they sound rough and ready to fight.
Daniel whispers "Boys we have to run out, Joe, you up for running out? Girls?"
"I cant run" Kat exclaims, but Joe cuts across her quickly "You expect my 9 month pregnant girlfriend to run out of here, she could trip on anything for starters and -"
Kat starts to feel a lot of pressure and breathes it through but it doesnt go unnoticed, Poppy feels that she has to disclose information "Joe she has felt twinges all day and didnt want to tell you because -"
"Who's in here then? Who's up for a fight?!" Sounds from the outside.
"Okay, everyone shut the fuck up, Daniel phone the police, Joe, an ambulance, nobody argue with me, I need to get out of here" whispers Kat "I've kept this tiny person safe for 9 months, I am not messing it up now, I will not put myself and my child at risk of those kids outside, were in a bad area and they might have weapons so we -"
Joe interrupts "Love, we didnt bring phones, it interferes with the tech"
Kat looks at Joe tearfully and says "Okay well it'll have to happen in here then, I'm in so much pain, I need something to sit on, a jumper or?.."
At this point, Poppy has had enough "Right you three get out there, you do not tell them were in here, it was your idea not to bring phones in and now look where you got us"
Daniel slams back "Mate, your friend wanted to be here even though she cant even walk shes so pregnant, Joe you should never have left her come, you're both going to be parents and cant even- "
"Ahhh, hee hoo hee hoo, please shut up I need to focus, please just shut up" said Kat, "I'm so sorry, I'm so so sorry, okay can I check you? I just need to check how far along you are" said Joe whilst signaling to Poppy that she should come over and help. Joe pulls Kats maternity jeans off and then her panties, the three other boys are stood watching, "never seen a vagina before you pervs?" Shouted Poppy. Kat moans as Joe puts his fingers in, "You're nearly there Kat, you're going to have to push her out in here" he says panicking "I cant" says Kat, "it's dirty and ngghh"
Corey whispers to Daniel "Nah mate, we have to tell her" Joe hears and shouts "Tell her what?!" Daniel laughs and mutters "it's a prank pal, theres nobody outside, it's just the rest of the boys, you need to get her out of here". Joe springs up off the floor and runs towards Daniel "You f*cking what? I'm going to break that pretty face of-"
"I need to push, please, help me" Kat cries, Joe is torn, after a second thought he falls to his knee and pulls Kats legs open and says, "Okay whenever you feel it's right, push as hard as you can" Kat takes a huge breath and presses her chin down on her chest to push and Poppy says "Stop, let's get her to my car, I have blankets and stuff, we can help her birth there, its safer". Huffing and puffing through out, Kat screaches "I cant walk, I can feel the head I need to push her out now, I have to push, I cant hold it anymore".
"Come on, let's get up, get to the car and get this baby out safely" Joe orders, Kat always listens to Joe because he always does what's best. Kat finds the strength to get on her toes, with Joe's hand and Poppy supporting her lower back, once on her feet she stops and takes a moment "hee hoo hee, AHH I cant, I need to push, urrrrggggg", Joe gets on his knees and kisses her bump, "we can get to the car".
Poppy runs ahead, "you can do this Kat you're the strongest person I know" she exits quickly to puff and prod some blankets so that Kat can bare down on them. Whilst Kat waddles out with Joe's support under her elbows "Not long now Mommy, she'll be here".
Kat gets in the car and quickly tries to find a position to push in, but becomes frustrated because she cant find the power to push "I need to squat" she begins pushing harder and harder until she feels powerless.
Kat becomes tired in this position quickly, "I need to get on my back, theres not enough room, Joe can you get in the, hee hoo hee hoo, ahhh, get in the front and I'll put one leg either side of the front seats, that way my legs will be spread as far as they can be, and ill be open for baby to come out". Joe quickly gets up "let me help you into position" but Poppy realises she needs to help her best friend "Joe you get in the front I will help Kat get comfortable".
Kat huffs and puffs through the moving, she is so ready for the baby to be out by now, then it hits her. "I need to push harder, I need her out now, can you guide her Joe, Pops, hold this leg back as far as you can, nghggg ahhh, hoo hooo". At this point the other boys have all left and its pitch black, the only lights are the car lights and phone torches.
Kat is sweating so much that her face is shining. She starts to panic because she feels exhausted and like she's been pushing too long "get me to a hospital Pop, this isnt right". Poppy answers with a smile "You're fine, you're doing great, you're so so strong. We can see the head now, shes beautiful, she has your colour hair, just keep doing what you're doing mama". Kat soon starts to feel the ring of fire and starts to close her legs "it burns, I cant take it I'm going to rip, I'm going to open, is there blood? I cant, ahhh hoo hoo hoo nghhhh".
Kats progress is phenomenal and Joe is crying because of his girlfriends strength, "you're doing so good, I'm so proud of you, not much left now, just get the head out completely and then it's nearly over and we have a daughter".
I need to move positions" Kat snaps, "Shes coming" Kat suddenly staggers onto hands and knees, this is when she gets really strong, she starts to push with all of her might. "Its stuck, I cant move it, put your fingers in and rub them around the head, she needs to come out I cant push anymore it hurts". "Ooohhh this is it, I'm going to rip, fu*k, AAAHH".
Joe encourages Kat all the can "Come on honey a few more pushes, you're going great, you're doing it come on, push! Harder! Come on Kat push like you've never pushed before, yes, yes, come on sweetheart, push harder.. HARDER".
Kat is barely catching a breath and is baring down to hard she feels like shes going to rip. "Try little pushes, like ngh ngh ngh ngh rather than nghhhhh" says Poppy "It might change things and speed up the progress". "I'm not strong enough I cant go any longer, please call an ambulance, I need help, they can cut me and ahhhhhh, f*ck I think shes coming down, nghhhh, hooo hooo hooo AAHHHH can you see her? JOE CAN YOU SEE THE SHOULDERS, AHHHHHHHHH" she takes a breath and pushes until shes red in the face "hnnnnnngggggg here she is, it's time! I'm ready. To. Pusshhhhhhh. Oh my god, fu.. AHHHHH" . "Shes here beautiful, you're a Mommy. You're amazing, you're so perfect, I love you so much" Joe cries.

MY NEW ROAD - Chapter 1
» Older Daniel Diaz x reader
» Warnings: mature, romance, blood, gang
Chapter 2
» So i was hoping i could read something about daniel diaz, at the end of 5 ep, and as i was sick of waiting, so i decided to write a long short about older daniel diaz, so let's go :)
And there I was, in this moment i was terrified, I could I feel my blood coming out of my belly, it hurts a lot... I couldn't breathe, or think, to be honest I didn't know what to do... Who is he? Why is he here? For a few seconds i felt my body being lifted up.
" Y/N ? Oh please wake up... ahhh SEAN!!!!"
I recognized this voice, but I just let my eyes close, I felt my body fall asleep.
*A FEW HOURS EARLIER*
So HI!! My name is y/n, im 17 and right now I'm living on my own in Mexico, more property in puerto lobos.
I'm a very simple girl, I grew up in LA with my grandparents, I never met my parents, and during my life, my grandparents never told me about their daughter, they just told me that she had abandoned me when I was Little, and as for my father, they didn't know who she was, so I never really cared about that.
I've been living here for about six weeks,I study in a small americam school, near here. I'm loving living here I never thought, that a dream I had since I was little would come true so soon, I decided to live here, because I love Mexican culture and not to mention that living by the beach never tires anyone, and I still have the privilege of seeing the sunset disappear into the waves...
Since I was a child I was very shy and I don't know how to express myself to others anht this is the reason why I've not be able to make friends in this new school yet, I feel ashamed when they look at me or try to talk to me, it's complicated, however, I've always managed to make some friends in LA, people I talk to almost every single day.
it's already 7 am i think i should be preparing for school but i think laziness has won ahaha, I got up and tried to take as little time as possible, I don't want to be late again or Ms. Lopez will kick me out of her class again.
I was new to that school and it wasn't the first time I was late, which I can say I love sleeping, but I have to work harder to make sure that doesn't happen, and I'm going to start right now haha.
I tried to take as little time as possible, of course that for me it's kind of impossible, because, I still had to take a shower before going, but I think at least I won't be late this time, I look at the clock and OMG is already 7:50 and the classes start at 8:00, ahhhhh how will I get to school in 10... Afff so much effort for nothing, well at least I can still get to the beginning of the first class.
On the way to school, I saw him again... I think his name is Daniel, he's from my class but I never talked to him before, and to be honest, I never had the courage to talk to him, well... not only with him, I think with everyone in general, so far I haven't made any friends, except the lady from the apartment next door, and we only talk on Sundays, because we have the same way when we go to church.
I think I've been looking at him too long... why do I say that? He's looking at me right now. I can't deny it he's beautiful... he's so mysterious, but from what I've seen of him, at school he's very fun, reserved, but fun.
I felt him staring at me, which made me completely ashamed, and my only option for not having to talk to him was to hit him and not, to look at him as I passed by, even with my back to him his gaze managed to make me feel a huge chill, but it's a good thing that I'm already arriving at school.
For real I didn't know what to tell him anyways.
When i arrived at school i came across Ms.Lopez on the way. And I think it was at this moment that I realized I was completely fucked up, I tried to go unnoticed, but without success.
And when I turned back I only saw her ferocious gaze directed at me.
"Miss l/n shouldn't be in class already. Preferably sitting at your desk waiting for me." - she looked at me with a deadly look on her face
"oh I finally find you y/n, thx for waiting for me, and here you have your Spanish book that you lent me." He looked at me and winked at me, so that I could continue with the theater.
"O-of course I do, Daniel, there's nothing to be thankful for" he stands next to me and takes my hand. And he gave me the book, I felt my heart go off a thousand an hour...When I lifted my face I saw his eyes glued on me, why did he protect me?
"Is that why you were late?" She looked at me and then at Daniel, I felt the anger in her eyes
"yes i decided to wait for daniel" i smiled at her, and i felt daniel put himself behind me
"Vamos, no te enojes con ella, maestra. Sólo fue esta vez (Come on, don't get mad at her, teacher. It was just this time .)" Daniel grabbed my shoulders and spoke, I saw Ms. Lopez calm her eyes and take a deep breath.
"Hum being so, i let you pass your delay this time you two have 5 minutes to introduce you in my class, and miss L/N thank the boy Daniel for helping her " his voice was calm now but his words were cold.
She continued on her way to the classroom, and I hear Daniel laughed
"You're welcome!" daniel said as my body moved, his voice was now hoarse, I sounded hypnotized by the voice of him.
"T-thank you for helping me." I tried to be short and quick in my answer. I was so nervous and idk why.
"let's go to class before Ms. Lopez decides to murder us, because we're late" daniel just went on her way but stopped 3 steps ahead of me.
"will have to pull you?" he laughs softly and throws a half smile, my heart, jumped a beat when i saw that smile.
"Y-yes" I just followed him.... When we arrived in the room each one sat in his seat, but for some reason, Daniel kept looking at me and it made me nervous for the rest of the time.
During the rest of the day, everything went as usual, except for the failed attempt by me to escape Daniel's gaze, I don't know what he was looking for in me, but I think I managed to make him lose interest for a while. I think.
When I finally rang the exit bell, I was the first to leave for the first time, I didn't want to know anything else, I just wanted to get home and enjoy being alone.
When I walked through the school gate, I took a deep breath and tried to rearrange my ideas, how can something as simple as talking to a person make me so nervous?
I'll speed up the walk and look at the sky and then at the sea at the end of the street to calm myself down. I didn't understand what was going on this day but I just asked it to end quickly. Yeah, to tell you the truth, I've never had a boy look at me for so long, am I getting a crush on him? AHHHHH well I hope not.
When I was almost at home, I felt a chill on my back and soon I could be able to realized what was happening....
"Are you trying to avoid me?" Not that voice, not again.
I turned slowly and there he was, did he follow me? When I looked at him I felt my face boiling with shame.
"Did the Cat eat your tongue?" he looked at me and laughed, and began to approach me.
I tried to ignore to not have to answer, I really suffered from many anxiety problems and did not know what to do in these situations.
"okay i got you, you don't want to talk to me don't worry" he looked at the floor and his cheerful expression went to sadness
"well see you tomorrow at school" when he was going to turn around and continue on his way i screamed
"WAIT"
He turned to me and smiled... OH God that smile was so sweet
"I thought you weren't gonna answer ahaha."
"I'm not ignoring you, or avoiding you...I'm just too shy to talk" I couldn't face his eyes so I just looked at the ground.
"Are you sure? I didn't want to get into it with Ms Lopez, but I knew if I didn't, she'd kick you out of her class" when I looked up I came across the most beautiful smile I'd ever seen.
It made me blush, involuntarily, I didn't know what to say.
"thank you...and it's okay, I'd be kicked out if it wasn't for you too, so thank you for helping me."
"You're welcome, I've always seen you being very shy with everyone and you don't seem to be the kind of person who would be late on purpose, well, I won't take up your time. See you tomorrow"
he said with a perverse smile on his face
"Oh and if tomorrow you want company for the school I can wait here for you".
I didn't have time to say anything else I just agreed and entered the building.
When I got home I lay on the couch, looking at the ceiling, trying to see what had happened, I didn't notice it, but I felt my body tired and ended up falling asleep.
"Daniel... Something about him attracted me...'
I opened my eyes very slowly, I looked at the window and it was already dark, I picked up my phone and turned it on, I had 5 unanswered calls from my grandmother, this was strange she didn't call me so often
I dialed her number and called...
"y/n honey is you?"
"yes Grandma, what's going on? I'm sorry I was so tired that I fell asleep and didn't hear you call".
Without telling me anything else she felt like she was crying, but what happened to make my grandmother cry she hardly ever does, and when I say that she doesn't, it's because it's rare.
"Honey, I have something to tell you... Your mother is looking for you," those words left me unanswered, my mother?
No...
No...
Couldn't be, my mother abandoned me 16 years ago, for me she died... I started crying, that person who abandoned me 16 years ago, now its looking for me why? I had so many questions in my mind, I couldn't talk to anybody, I just need some time.
"honey are there? Y/n?" My grandmother called me...
"I'm sorry Grandma, I need to think a little, I'll call you later."
"darling no-" i hung up on her, i don't like to do this but i need time to process
I got up, grabbed my jacket and went out towards the beachWhen I got there I sat down on the sand, and watched the sea, and the waves coming at me, I didn't want to believe that my mother was looking for me, if she hadn't wanted me in 16 years, she wouldn't want me now.... Now I did not even want her back
At that moment I felt that I was not alone there, I turned around and saw a group of people coming towards me.
I got up quickly and tried to get out of there, but it was too late.
Fear sometimes makes us irrational, and at this moment I did not know what to do, I did not know how to react, I was scared, I felt one of the men grabbing me by the arms, and attached me to his body
"hey you, don't move so much kittens, let's talk"
The second man spoke and stood in front of me, and grabbed my face forcing me to look at him.
"so you're the Diaz little princess aren't you?" I wasn't noticing anything, I just tried to get away but without success, I wonder what would happen to me...
I tried to fight and I tried to let go, but unfortunately I only did worse, he pressed himself behind my back and won't let me go.
"Let's teach that boy a lesson, that's what he and his brother will pay to judge us dumb."
One of them pulled a knife out of his waist and approached me...
"NO PLEASE DON'T"
I started screaming, and crying madly, I was now completely scared.
At that very moment, I felt the blade pierce my skin... I didn't know what to do, I just tried to struggle
But when I turned my head, there he was, out of nowhere, the people around me were thrown away, I felt my body fall into the sand...
I recognized this voice, but I just let my eyes close, I felt my body fall asleep...
But to be honest I felt my body warm, from this moment on, it just got dark.

TIFU by trying to help an old lady into her wheelchair.
I was in my car behind another vehicle outside the ER, watching a 60-ish woman attempting to help an elderly woman out of the passenger seat and into a flimsy-looking wheelchair. (They are mother and daughter, as it turns out.)
The elderly woman suffers from Alzheimer's.
I've just dyed my hair purple and it is super bright and I probably look scary as hell to an elderly lady with Alzheimer's.
I apologize profusely to the daughter and high-tail it back to my car as fast as I can.
TL;DR: TIFU by scaring the shit out of an old lady with Alzheimer's because I forgot that I had just dyed my hair bright purple.
