I never actually loved anything Star Wars before The Mandalorian.
The movies were always on TV, but I don't think I actually watched them before I was 9 or 10 years old. And the movies were meh, but I found them, esp the prequels very tacky. The only things I remember really loving were the droids, the blasters and the ships; the futuristic concepts really.
I really liked Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, R2, 3PO and basically any another droid. I liked Yoda, because well, everyone likes the old wise mentor type. I liked Stormtroopers 'cause of their armour. I liked Jango, Boba and Mandalorians because of the armour and also because let's be real, they're badass motherfuckers.
I was the least interested in the Jedi; the very beings everyone else was always obsessed with and they were so hyped good God. Also preferred Maul to Vader.
The Clone Wars aired when I was a kid, but I didn't like the art style and just didn't want to stumble into something that had so much history.
The Force Awakens was pretty okay. I didn't love anything about it except BB-8 (who I still love to death). From Rogue One, I loved K-2SO and his sass and I loved Orson Krennic's outfit. I was never really fond of Harrison Ford's Han Solo, but I actually kinda adored Alden Ehrenreich's Han. The movie was fine, and Qi'ra, Beckett, Lando and L3-37 were all likable.
What I liked from SW was really just the concepts of the technology, the universe, concepts of characters, but I never really had any emotional connection to it, 'cause the characters didn't attract me, nor did the relationships between them and nor did the Jedi and lightsabers. I was used to getting disappointed or not feeling anything after surrendering to the hype.
When The Mandalorian came out, I was busy with exams and I didn't really care to see even the poster because by that point I had accepted that SW wasn't for me. Then a year later I kept hearing everyone raving about it, esp Baby Yoda, but I still didn't care enough to give it a try. The point where I caved was when someone told me this character never takes their helmet off, and the fact that it's built around the trope of Lone Warrior Adopts Bubbly Child. At that point I had to watch it, 'cause single dads are my shit.
So, imagine my surprise when I started watching the first episode and was actually really intrigued by what I was seeing.
Sure, there's Mando being a BAMF, but that alone is in no way enough to retain my attention. When he returned to the Covert, I knew that he had a purpose; a commitment to his Tribe. And that's where I got to learn about Mandalorian culture (at least of this tribe's) and instantly fell in love. By that point I was sold to anything remotely Mandalorian. I'll take Mandalorian over Jedi ANY DAY.
When he went to meet The Client, I will admit, I was pissed to see the Stormtroopers. I was NOT on board for another Main Characters vs. The Empire story. Not at all.
But then Mando went on the hunt and met Kuiil, fought Jawas and lost, and met IG-11. At that point I was convinced this was a smaller scale story, so naturally I was more invested. One can only tolerate a story about a bunch of adolescents defeating an evil overlord so many times.
Anyway, then Mando met bébé, and that reluctant fatherhood plotline was the icing on top. Not to mention the honour and the unity between Mandos that we later see when Mando stole Grogu back. Like yeah, infighting is common and all, but the fact that they will stick up for each other no matter what since it's one of their own is a really refreshing take, esp so, since Din admits early on that he's a foundling.
Another reason I love Mando is 'cause of the major ace vibes he exudes, and being ace myself and having near-zero representation in mainstream media, it was a fucking JOY.
This show is basically just tropes and plotlines and character types and dynamics that I absolutely adore, which happens to be set in the SW universe. It's fucking amazing to see a piece of mainstream media esp fantasy and sci fi, portraying parenthood in such a positive way, and not an end of your adventurous life. I say this 'cause parenthood has almost zero role in any major fantasy/sci fi movie, TV show or book.
At it's core, it's just a simple show about this fierce bounty hunter making his way through the galaxy with his li'l green bean of a son.
It's this simplicity that I adore and I just hope that in future seasons it remains this simple. I've seen enough Jedis for a lifetime. Barring Grogu and maybe his mentors, I frankly don't wanna see any Force-sensitives in this story. But I'm up for Mandos; gimme ALL the Mandos.
Also, the fact that Din wants to be the side character so badly is another reason I adore this show. He doesn't have to do anything grand. Sure he's a feared warrior, but he's also a Dad and that's enough. He doesn't need to be the Mand'alor and him actually assuming that role will seem very idk out of place and Chosen One-ish IMO. Idc what anyone thinks, I think this man deserves some peace, so he should definitely yeet the Darksaber into space the first chance he gets. 😈
At the end of the day, I, just like anyone else, want to see the stuff I want to happen, which in this case is a LOT more of this^.
I'm hoping for the best for Season 3, however long that might take. In the meantime, I'm excited to see Din in The Book of Boba Fett, and also Boba, 'cause Mando!Boba is cool and I adore Fennec, so yeah.

Jango Fett x Reader (Plentiful Bounties Chapter 8)
Here’s the next chapter of Plentiful Bounties. Hope you all like it as there is a wedding this time. I do not own Star Wars or any characters. What will Jango and Reader do for their honeymoon? Will they leave Boba for this Honeymoon or take him with them. So many questions that will be answered today. Oh and a surprise character shows up!
-------------------
Jango was nervous as you and him planned the wedding. It was to be a simple mandalorian wedding, and as the day grew closer the more excited Boba seemed to get. (Y/N) seemed to pace as she tried to figure out how to do seating since it was going to be a small wedding with mostly family since neither of them had many friends. Jango had also noted that it would be bad if other Bounty Hunters knew they were together.
Jango didn’t have anyone that he invited, and he didn’t seem bothered by it. (Y/N) had three friends that she invited who said they would be able to make it. Your father would smile and tear up whenever you asked for help which in turn would make you tear up. Jango got a bounty two days before the wedding, but he told you he would let this one go. “Jango you should go if it’s an easy one. You can take Boba if it’s something easy”, you discussed.
“No, I want to make sure I’m here for the wedding. Someone else can take it”, Jango replied. You didn’t push the issue as Boba came in with a couple of his friends. “Hey mom can I go to Hajat’s?”, Boba asked you. This was the first time he had called you mom, and you looked towards Jango who smiled at you. “Ummm ask your father”, you dodged. “Dad can I go to Hajat’s?”, Boba turned towards his father. “I don’t know, did you polish your armor the other day for the ceremony?”, Jango questioned.
“Yes Buir I did”, he nodded smiling wide. “Alright I guess you can as long as you're back before dinner”, Jango told him. Boba excitedly ran out the door with his friend as you came to sit in Jango’s lap. “You know when you are officially his mother, and I’m not here you're going to have to make decisions”, he chuckled. “Did you make up your mind whether we are going to take Boba with us or not for the honeymoon?”, you quizzed. “No what do you think cya’re. If we take him with us you know he will want to explore”, he replied.
“Well I’m sure that I would want to explore some, but maybe not the same as Boba”, you joked as you ran your hand up his chest, and playfully pecked a kiss to his lips. “(Y/N)”, he warned. “I think we should take him along. He is your son, and it wouldn’t be fair to leave him as if he doesn’t belong”, you explain. “This is why I love you, and why you will make a good mother for Boba”, he tells you to then kiss you.
You both kissed for a moment until you decided you needed to get the chairs set up for the wedding. It took you about ten minutes to get all the chairs set up, and your father joined you. “Are you nervous?”, he asked. “A little, but I know he is the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, and Boba is too precious”, you smiled. “Oh wait until he becomes a teenager”, he joked. “Yeah I don’t know how Jango was as a teenager. I hope it will be somewhat easy”, you laughed out.
“You’ll do fine I’m sure”, your father told you. “Your mother would be so proud to see you getting married. I’m sure she would be leary about you marrying a bounty hunter, but after meeting him I’m sure she would understand”, he said tearing up. You felt a tear slide down your cheek as your father told you how proud he is of you, and wishing your mother could be here for this. You had just started on dinner when Boba entered the house covered in dirt, and a bruise on his cheek. “Boba what happened to you?”, you panicked looking him over.
“Another kid was making fun of Hajat’s sister, and I punched him then we got into a scuffle. He gave me this bruise, but he won’t be bothering her anymore”, Boba growled out as he held back tears. You understood in an instant that it reminded him of Eya, and you pulled him to you as he finally let the tears flow freely. “Why did it have to be her? It should have been me”, Boba sobbed. “Boba never think that it should have been you. She isn’t hurting anymore, and she is with her mom now like you're here with your father and me”, you sniffled.
When Jango walked in you had Boba in your lap on the couch as you held him as he cried. “You know me and your father made the decision to take you with us for our honeymoon”, you told him trying to sooth him. His tears slowed as he confirmed that what you had said was true. “Go get ready and I’ll have dinner ready in no time”, you told him, kissing the top of his head. He went to the refresher to take a sanisteam, and you explained to Jango what Boba had said.
“He lost a friend, and I know how hard that can be”, Jango told you. “I just wish he hadn’t had to see it happen”, you replied. Jango came up behind you to wrap his arms around your waist as you cooked. When Boba came back into the kitchen Jango hoisted him into his arms, and Boba giggled as Jango started to tickle him. “No haha dad ahhh”, Boba squealed as he kicked and pushed at his father to get away.
You quickly placed a plate of food at each placement and called everyone for dinner. You all ate, made jokes and let your father tell some embarrassing stories about you. It seemed to help the mood, but Jango was quickly getting ammunition to use against you. Once you all were finished you started on dishes, and you asked Boba if he would like to help you. He helped you dry the dishes after you washed and rinsed them. You couldn’t wait for the wedding, and neither could Jango.
The next two days seemed to fly by, and you woke up early on the day of the wedding. Jango had been exhausted since he seemed to be having trouble getting to sleep. You gave him a peck on his lips, and quietly slipped out of the room. You made breakfast and before long Boba and your father made their way into the kitchen. You made a tray and walked into the bedroom, and gently woke Jango.
“Here darling”, you smiled. He sat up to take the tray, and looked up to you confused. “I figured you would like to lay in bed for a little bit until we have to start getting ready”, you told him. “You know I could definitely get used to this”, he jested. “Mmmm I’m sure you could”, you giggled. “So I figured we could go to Alderaan. It’s beautiful and a safe place for Boba to explore since the place we will be staying is about an hour from any major city”, you explained. “Sounds good. I have never really been there”, he replied. “Neither have I”, you agreed.
The whole day was very fast paced as you all got ready for the wedding. A friend of your father got there to officiate the wedding, and you had spent the night before preparing food for the reception which was basically going to be people sitting around congratulating, and drinking. Boba answered the door as everyone finally made it, and made their way to the garden where you would be married.
Everyone dressed in mandalorian armor as most of the family had been warriors. Jango waited for you, and your father brought you to him, and gave him his blessing. The ceremony was going well, and many laughed when Boba presented the rings in his armor. It got to the vows and both you and Jango repeated them together, “Mhi solus tome, mhi solus dar'tome, mhi me'dinui an, mhi ba'juri verde". It was done as Jango kissed you, and everyone cheered for you both.
Boba hugged you and Jango picked him up to head back inside. Everyone drank and told jokes as you stayed close to Jango. “Can I have some?”, Boba questioned, pointing at Jango's drink. Jango smirked and told him only a sip, and once Boba takes a sip he makes a sour face causing everyone to chuckle. “That stuff is gross”, Boba smacked his lips. When night started to fall the guests all stumbled off as they left. All of you wishing them well and a safe journey home.
All three of you packed, and made the decision to leave in the morning since Boba was falling asleep standing up. “Jango, maybe we should go ahead and load the Slave I”, you told him, feeling uneasy. “Why? (Y/N)”, he questioned. “I’m not sure, but something is wrong”, you told him. “Cya’re let’s just sleep it’s just your nerves”, he tried to calm you. “No. Please we can let Boba sleep. I would just feel better if we do it now”, you said almost feeling panicked.
A voice kept telling you to hurry, and you grabbed your stuff as Jango grabbed his and Boba’s things since you seem so urgent. You loaded the Slave I, and made your way back to the house. You tried to sleep, but you couldn’t as more voices joined the other voice you heard. A loud banging on the front door had you sitting up, and you walked to the door. When you looked, a friend of your fathers was standing there.
You opened the door to let him in as he told you to close the door and lock it as he panted out of breath. Your father had been woken as well as Jango as they both came in. “You all must leave. Some guy...a jedi by the saber he carried was looking for your new husband. Said he was to arrest him, and bring him to Coruscant to the Jedi Temple, and anyone aiding him”, your father's friend explained. “We need to go now”, you trembled now knowing why the voices had been telling you to do so.
You ran to get Boba up, and all your armor and things had already been loaded onto Slave I. “Boba you need to get dressed and we need you to be ready to go in the next couple minutes”, you urge. He got dressed without a word as he seemed to know something was wrong. “Dad you should come with us”, you pleaded. “I don’t think I should go”, he argued. “Dad please you know what happened to mom when the Jedi came here”, you begged.
Your father quickly got dressed and packed things to take with him. Right before you were about to go out the front door you felt a presence at the door. The knock made you all freeze as your father looked from you to Jango to Boba half asleep in your arms. “Go out the back I’ll cover for you all”, your father’s friend whispered. You four quickly ran to the garden, and you climbed the tree to the roof as your father climbed up next. You used the force to bring Boba up to you as Jango climbed up.
The knock on the door increased as your father’s friend made sure you all were on your way. He answered the door as a Jedi stood there. “Can I help you?”, your father’s friend asked. “Yes I’m looking for a bounty hunter named Jango Fett. I had information that he was living here”, the Jedi informed. “No man by that name lives here”, he replied. “Well then you wouldn’t mind if I checked for myself since his ship is here I assume he is here on Mandalore somewhere”, he said.
You could hear the conversation as you made your way to the edge of the house. You jumped down into Jango’s waiting arms. All of you silently made your way to the docking ports. Something was wrong, you could feel the anxiety wrapping around you through the force. All of you made it, but a lightsaber igniting made you all turn around. “Stop!”, a voice rang out.
You knew that voice, and you didn’t want to face this person. Your mother had actually trusted this Jedi and he was the only one that was allowed to visit you both. “Obi-Wan”, you whispered. “(Y/N) please tell me what your doing?”, Obi-Wan questioned. “Please just let us go. I don’t know what you want with my husband, but I won’t let you take him”, you told him, pulling a lightsaber out from your sleeve.
Obi-Wan and your father recognised your mother's lightsaber. Jango stiffened as you stepped in between your family and Obi-Wan. “Wait Jango Fett is your husband! Since when did this happen?”, he inquired. “Today but we have been together for some time. Please I don’t know what you're accusing him of, but he is innocent. I’ll die before I let you destroy my family again”, you cried. “(Y/N) we just want him for questioning. I don’t want to fight you”, Obi-Wan calmly stated. “Just like how you and the Jedi council just wanted to talk about my future”, you growled.
“(Y/N) it was an accident, and you know it. I was her friend, and she knew my master well. I never wanted to hurt her”, he tried to reason. “I won’t let you make Boba fatherless. I mean it’s what you all are good at, killing fathers and mothers, and trying to take their children”, you bellowed. Before he could respond you leapt at him as your father held Jango back.
“Boba start the ship so we can make a fast getaway”, your father convinced him. You swung at Obi-Wan as he deflected as he stayed on the defensive. He never made a move to hurt you, but you were blinded by the fear of anything taking Jango or Boba from you. The green lightsaber you held felt so familiar and you kept swinging until you used the force to push him back.
All of the sudden there was blaster fire coming from your side as Jango stood by your side helping you. Obi-Wan directed it back, and you knew you couldn’t deflect it, but quickly deactivating the lightsaber you used the force to stop the blaster bolt. It hovered inches from Jango’s head as you shot it off to the side. You used the force pressing Obi-Wan into the ground causing cracks in the floor after distracting him.
Blood started to come out your nose, and you could feel something wet coming out of your ears as you pressed Obi-Wan harder into the floor causing him to yell out, and causing more cracks to form. Jango had started to retreat at your comment to go, but all of the sudden you swayed as you felt like you were floating. You still felt like you were floating as you realized Jango was carrying you.
“Boba lets go!”, Jango yelled laying you on a cot. Jango worried over you as you paled more and more by the minute. “Do you have any stims?”, your father asked. “Yes”, he replied, grabbing some stims. Your hand seemed to be searching for something and Jango held your hand as your father administered two of the stims. Boba asked where they were headed to, and Jango left to go put everything into the navigator.
When you came to you noticed you were in a large room, and when you looked to your right there were two large glass doors that led out to a large balcony. It was dark outside and everything that happened came flooding back as you sat up. You felt movement beside you, and jumped out of the bed when someone's hand landed on your shoulder. You fell as dizziness overtook you. “(Y/N) it’s okay I’m here cya’re”, you heard Jango tell you. “Where are we?”, you questioned confused. “Alderaan. I made sure to jump around from planet to planet to make sure they didn’t follow us. Boba and your father are asleep in their rooms”, he explained.
“Are we in the city?”, you inquired. “No we are at the place you wanted to go for our honeymoon. Now come to bed everyone is safe”, he tells you lifting you into his arms to lay you back on the bed. “This is not how I imagined spending our first night together as husband and wife”, you say. “It’s okay we have a couple of weeks to make up for tonight”, he tells you as he pulls you to his side.
You lay your head on his chest, and it doesn’t take you long to fall back to sleep. Jango watches to make sure you fall back into a deep sleep. He never imagined he would ever marry. He smiled remembering Boba asking if they were going to pick up a brother for him on Kamino. When Jango asked why Boba explained that you had told him he may get a brother once both of you were married. He fell asleep not too long after you, and dreamed about you.
-------------------
Man that was a rollercoaster, and damn when will this family get a break. Well I guess you all will have to keep reading to find out.

Welcome to the Family
So I wanted to give a quick thank you to everyone whose supported this :) I really didn’t expect it, since I’ve been posting on other sites for a couple of years now with barely any response. So it’s very motivating and refreshing to see an active community!
If anyone is interested I do have an account on fanfiction.net and AO3 but I haven’t been super active on there as of late. But if there are any Guardian of the Galaxy fans out there I do have two completed books posted and than a work in progress for that fandom :) Link to my fanfiction.net page and my AO3 page!
Also sorry for updating so late in the day. I’m still working during all the covid craziness and work was hella busy and stressful today. As soon as I got home I crashed for like four hours lol. Hopefully tomorrow will be better and I won’t be so tired.
Never Wanted to be Here Now pt. 3
Clothes had never been that important in Halley’s life; or better yet she should say that fashion had never played an important role in the ex-assassin’s life. Her father was many things but he always made sure she had what she needed. Her clothes had never been worn out or old due to their career they could afford to look nice. And because of that Halley never really cared about appearances since her lack of impute in the clothing her father picked out for her.
Outside of work, Slade wanted them to look professional, classy, as he put it. Her closet mostly consisted of black shirts and cardigans with the occasional simple black dress. Her pants and shoes were always comfortable as they were always on the move. Never was something flashy or over the top, unless the job called for a little undercover work of course. But practicality was something her father drilled into her from a young age.
It wasn’t until moving into the tower did she really start to see that clothing could be used as a way to express oneself. Kori was more than eager to brighten up the girl’s bleak wardrobe and instantly began filling the girl’s new closet with hand-me-downs that the Tamaranean Princess simply grew out of. It wasn’t particularly what Halley could now recognize as her own taste but at the time she was just appreciative of putting anything on that wasn’t just black.
When Kori insisted on taking her shopping before she was set to move in with Dick’s father, Halley was so used to having just what she needed that she didn’t see the need. But now, she was grateful and somewhat annoyed that she couldn’t wear the clothes she had bought at this exact moment. During her time with the Titans she actually began to get a personality; she actually liked things and knew a decent amount about pop culture; like she actually understood what Star Wars about now.
Wally and Victor had a field day because it was like Starfire all over again. You think storm troopers are the good guys? She remembered Wally’s voice cracking as he could hide his horrified reaction to the revelation that she had never seen the series of films that nearly everyone in the modern world held close to their hearts. She couldn’t count the amount of movie nights they had with her, feeding it to her like it was imperative information that was at the upmost importance for her to learn.
She let her eyes wander to her closet, thinking of the Star Wars t-shirt she picked out during her shopping trip. She remembered running up to the guys eager to show them what she had picked out. She sighed as she remembered the proud look they shot down at her. Her smile from the fond memory faded as she turned back to face the mirror in front of her. Her eyes looked at her appearance, her lips slanted in displeasure. Halley was never one for dramatics’ but maybe Dick was rubbing off on her after all?
Pulling at the tight collar of the white dress shirt, she reached onto her dresser to grab the next item of clothing that would surely make her body itch. Slipping the vest over her head and shoulders, she smoothed the thick navy blue fabric out while looking at the crest of Gotham Academy that was place over her heart. She would rather wear the uniform her father made for her than this. Stop being overdramatic, she cursed herself.
It wasn’t that bad she supposed as she titled her head as if that would change how she looked. It wasn’t that she looked bad, technically she looked fine. The vest surprisingly didn’t make her look frumpy and the plaid, pleated skirt wasn’t too short but also wasn’t awkwardly long, just resting a few inches above her knees. And at least her footwear was comfortable much to her original thoughts. Alfred had called them saddle shoes and the name itself had made her feet already hurt.
Halley just figured that this was the confirmation that this was her life now. Dick had called her the night before, wishing her good luck on her first day of school. Even Kori and Wally cut in, wishing her the same. She could tell they were trying to ease her worries about them, refusing to give her a straight answer when she asked where they were and what they were doing. Frowning again, she let out a sigh, pushing her hair back and off her shoulders.
Should she wear it down? Or up? Braids?
Rolling her eyes, she reached down for her backpack, deciding that her hair looked fine as it was. It was just school, she told herself. She’d never been to one before but she had some short of idea what it was like. The guys showed her at least a dozen movies that took place in High Schools. Granted she knew that there’d be no singing, or magic, or burn books, she knew kids her age were mean and terrible. Just look at Jason for example, surely not all of them were that way? But she told herself she’d ignore it all. She was just there to learn and make Dick happy and that was it.
“You done checking yourself out yet because we’re going to be late for school.” Speaking of the devil, there he was. Halley really hated herself for letting him sneak up on her yet again. Narrowing her eyes at him, she moved away from her mirror and reached towards her backpack. “Oh right, I’m supposed to knock,” Jason pretended to recall, fully remembering the long and stern conversation Bruce gave him about boundaries. He knocked on the doorframe, with a roll of his own eyes.
Halley huffed, slinging the backpack over her shoulders before moving past him, making sure she bumped shoulders with him as she did. Jason turned to follow about to call her out but stopped when he saw her backpack. Sniggering he followed, picking his own up from the floor and putting it on. “You aren’t seriously going to use that thing, are you?”
“Why wouldn’t I?” She questioned, squinting up at him as he matched her pace. They walked side by side down the long hallway until they reached the grand stairway. “Dick gave it to me; it’s a perfectly fine backpack.”
“You can’t wear that! In Gotham? Are you crazy?” Jason laughed again, poking his finger at it and then into her side. “People aren’t too big on Supes over here.”
She jerked her body away from him, bounding down the stairs to get a few steps in front of him. “I’m not that big of a fan either but it’s all I have, so it’ll make due.”
“Alright, you’re funeral.” Jason shrugged, raising his hands in mock surrender. Halley rolled her eyes at him. He was just trying to wind her up before her first day. No one in their right mind would stab someone over a backpack; no one was that stupid.
The pair reached the kitchen, Alfred laying out scrambled eggs and bacon for them. He informed them to eat quickly, as he didn’t want Halley to be late on her first day. Being her first day, she had to get there a little bit earlier to meet her student counselor and receive her schedule, as well as meet the student she was supposed to shadow.
Just as it did on her first morning her, breakfast ended all too quickly and she soon found herself in the back of the car, sitting to the right of Jason this time. Even the drive, which took about thirty minutes, since the Manor was on the outskirts of the city, felt as if it only took a handful of minutes. She was sat in the backseat as Alfred parked the car to let them out. Halley’s eyes widened at the large, imposing building with teenagers scattered about, chattering and laughing. It wasn’t the first time she saw the building, attending the rides with Alfred all of last week but saying that Halley was suddenly feeling dazed would be an understatement.
She jumped as she heard a car door slam and then saw Jason walking around the car. He stopped a foot away from her door, looking impatiently. He was waiting for her. She quickly picked up her backpack, suddenly not wanting him to leave her if he got tired of waiting. He was better than nothing. As she shrugged her bag on, she opened the door but not before quickly thanking Alfred for the ride.
“It was not a problem at all, Miss. Good luck on your first day.” He nodded to her as she closed the door.
She watched as he began to drive away, before turning back to Jason. Her hands instantly pulled down her skirt as they began to walk. She suddenly felt exposed. Was her underwear showing? Why were people staring at her? It only took mere seconds for her to notice it, but the crowds of teens seemed to go silent as she walked back them with Jason. Were those whispered she was hearing. It was the backpack; Jason was right about the-,
“Chill, damn girl, your face is so red right now.” Jason hissed out, tauntingly. He looked her up and down; this girl had issues. “It’s just cause you’re with me. People around here heard Bruce Wayne took in another kid.”
“Oh, so it’s not the backpack?” she said quietly, pushing her hair behind her ears, trying to cool herself off.
The chuckle Jason let out wasn’t like his usual. It seemed genuine and somewhat playful. She looked up at him confused. Jason looked back down, opening the door for them once they reached it. She looked somewhat adorable fretting over everything and shook his head, putting a hand on the said backpack. Gently, he pushed her through the doors.
“I was just messing with you.” He grasped the bag for emphasis before letting it go. They began to walk at an even pace with each other again, Jason clearly leading the way with Halley following like a lost puppy. “I mean it’s a pretty lame backpack, and people are most likely going to call you a giant dork but you won’t get murdered over it.”
Halley glared up at him, before realizing that she reached out and lightly slapped him upside the head. She didn’t know what came over her, it wasn’t like she did it maliciously. It wasn’t done out of rage like when she had slapped him her first day here. She felt this weird playful anger inside her and that’s how her consciousness expressed that sudden feeling. The pair stopped walking, earning looks of annoyance as the people walking behind them nearly walked into them.
Jason’s hand rested on his head where she’d slapped him. Halley opened her mouth to apologize; she’d seen Dick and Kori do that to one another jokingly but that was different. They were a couple, they were close. She and Jason had barely spoke, let alone civilly with each other during her first week with them. But before she could apologize, he just laughed, using his hand that was holding his head to lightly push her shoulder. “You really are a dork.”
Halley’s face turned red, unsure of how she felt during this situation. Seeing this Jason just shrugged, putting his hands in his pant pockets. Nodded forward, he motioned her to get moving again. He began leading her to the guidance counselor like Bruce told him to make sure he did.
The rest of the walk was silent between them. The halls were loud enough as it were and Halley was just trying to take it all in. She thought since this was supposed to be filled with a bunch of rich kids it’d be a little tamer? She grimaced when she saw a couple practically sucking each other’s faces off against some lockers. Looking away quickly, to not wanting to get caught staring, she kept her eyes facing forward.
Jason did his job and quickly left her, mumbling something about seeing her out front after school. Sighing but not surprised that Jason ditched her as soon as his obligation was up, Halley opened the oak door, entering the room. Looking around, she was greeted by a lady sitting at a desk and a couple of students looking less than thrilled sitting on seats up against a wall. Halley walked up to the desk, clearing her throat to get the lady to look up.
“Hi, I was told to come here. It’s my first day.” She said awkwardly, fidgeting with her backpack strap.
“Name?” the woman sighed, sounding how the kids looked.
“Halley Wil- Wayne.” Halley cursed to herself, quickly correcting her mistake. Putting a smile on her face, which was of course fake, she repeated herself this time with some sort of confidence. “Halley Wayne.”
The woman perked up at that, looking up from her desk and work; Bruce Wayne was a large donor to the school. “Oh yes! Welcome to Gotham Academy, Mrs. Patterson can see you right now, right through those doors.”
Halley raised an eye at the woman’s sudden attitude change but nevertheless thanked her before turning to the doors she pointed too. Inside the woman, her counselor, Mrs. Patterson was just the same. It wasn’t until she spoke her new name did she start to treat her like a human being or well more than one actually. These people were so fake it made her want to escape back to her tower and be locked away from the world again. It didn’t get much better throughout the day and she was beginning to understand why Jason was always in such a bad mood on the car ride home.
She’d been paired up with a tall, black haired girl who seemed nice at first glance but Halley quickly learned that like many of the people here, she was what Dick called a snoot. When the girl finally looked away from her phone, she introduced herself as Sam, but then went back to her phone. The two girl’s shared their homeroom together, Halley still unsure of the concept. They only set in the room for about fifteen minutes as the teacher checked them in and then they left for their first class with a ring of a bell. Did they not trust the students to show up?
Sam showed her to her first class, which they shared together again. Halley half expected for the girl to sit with her but couldn’t say she was shocked to find herself sitting alone in the back of the room the entire class. She could barely follow what was happening; she was halfway through the term and never read the Iliad before, or anything like such before. She obviously she knew how too but she didn’t have much time for reading growing up and ancient Greek epics weren’t something Slade Wilson considered an important part of her education.
As the bell rang, Sam waited impatiently for Halley too collect her things, shoving them into her backpack. When she caught up to her, Sam just looked at her bag and raised an eyebrow, “So you’re into superheroes?”
Halley could sense the distaste laced in her tone and just shrugged, remembering Jason’s warning. “There, um, okay, I guess. I mean if it weren’t for them, who’d save us you know?” She laughed lamely, wanting to slap herself for sounding so, so civilian.
“I guess,” Sam shrugged leading her to her next class.
“It’s really my older brother’s backpack, he let me have it.” She added, abruptly, causing Sam to eye her strangely. Halley awkwardly smiled, turning her face quickly away from the taller girl. Calling Dick her older brother felt weird, never really having a title for him but to the world they were technically siblings and she didn’t know, was trying to sound cool? Gross.
“Ohhhh,” Sam said, looking away from her phone. She suddenly had a look of sudden interest. “You mean Dick Grayson? He’s hot; my sister was in the same grade as him. He came over sometimes for parties and stuff. You’re so lucky you get to live with him, he has like the greatest ass-,”
Halley grimaced as Sam spent the entirety of their walk gushing over her brother. She’d never saw Dick as the way Sam was describing him and it made her slightly uncomfortable. She was glad when Sam dropped her off in front of an open doorway. Sam didn’t share this next class with her, instead stating how she had a slip that allowed her to leave class early to meet her back here so she could show her to her next one.
The rest of the day played out all the same. She’d sit through a tortuous forty-five minutes, learning things she either already knew, or things she knew were useless in the real world. Then in between each class she’d be pestered by Sam. The girl bombarded the new student with questions about Dick Grayson. Eventually, the girl moved on to other topics. Asking if Bruce Wayne really did bring different woman home every night and of course the big how much money does he actually have, question. Even during lunch Sam insisted she sit with her friends and Halley felt as if she stepped right that scene from the Mean Girl’s movie Wally showed her. She knew how this was going to go down and quickly excused herself to use the restroom and never went back, instead opting to ask some nice boy for directions to her next class. She was restless and agitated.
Her free period was when she found herself finally deciding this whole school thing wasn’t for her. At least in her classes, the time slightly went by quicker. She tried to start her homework, another concept she didn’t understand, but quickly gave up, slamming the textbooks closed. She blushed when the surrounding students looked at her from the sound and started whispering. Frowning, she quickly picked up her books and left the library, wandering the halls for the rest of the thirty minutes, masterfully avoiding the teachers who she would surely get in trouble with for being in the halls during class; which was another stupid concept.
But despite how her day really went, she still put on a good face when the day was over. She wouldn’t want to come off as ungrateful if she spoke truthfully. Her day was great, and she met a lot of nice people. She didn’t spend her lunch alone in a bathroom stall and she most definitely was looking forward to going back tomorrow.

I have a ton of insomnia writing in the drafts, so time to start unloading some of it. The usual “as is” rules apply, and I’ll try to keep most of it under the cut,
It just occured to me that I actually have one piece of good advice to give:
If you challenge someone to a duel, ALWAYS have a witness for the fight!
I learned this the hard way when I was a little girl. But to understand why I felt the need to even duel someone, you need to understand the background.
When I was a little girl my family lived in our house in town, which meant until I was 9 I was running around with a gang of kids. I say “kids”, but I pretty much mean boys. There were a couple of years during that time when a girl was inthe neighborhood, one being one of the best friends I had in my life and the other....not, but almost the entire time I was the only girl in the neighborhood.
Now some folks think being the only girl would be terrible, but in a lot of ways it was fine. Kids are kids, rampaging around the neighborhood, and thanks to my family I never felt things should be “girl stuff” and “boy stuff”. I just played.
In fact, at times being the only girl even gave me a curious power position. I knew “girl things” they didn’t. I can still remember the shock on the face of one of the boys when I tried to explain that I didn’t just piss outside like them because of anatomical differences. He just assumed girls had dicks too.
BTW, groups of very little boys can get awfully competitive about their dicks. Not that they called them that. They honest to god called them “ding-a-lings”! LOL In fact, a few times they even had a contest where they would line up with their pants dropped wanting me (the only one that was exempt) to decide which looked “best”. Remember, at the time we were very little kids, so the concept of “best” was exceptionally vague.** I hope I didn’t give any of those boys a lifelong complex because of something I said in all innocence! But geez, they were obsessed with the idea that whatever hung between their legs was very, very important.
Anyway, running around playing being a girl among boys wasn’t bad all the time. Heck, while the boys could fight over who got to play Han and Luke when we played “Star Wars” or Mark and Jason when we played “Battle of the Planets”, I always knew I wouldn’t have to compete for my part in the games. Though I’m still a little irked to the way their only solution to Gargantuas in War of the Gargantuas being both male was I’d play “the green Gargantua’s wife, at least we always found a way even if what we were playing didn’t have a token girl.
All that being said, there were real disadvantages too, especially as the bots came to learn the rules around gender. I was a girl. They knew it and at times they would think it meant I was supposed to defer to them. This led to many a fight and tears.
For instance, once one of the boys got a BB gun.
Naturally we all wanted to take turns using it in a makeshift backyard shooting gallery. Trouble was, as far as they were concerned girls weren’t supposed to shoot. Now considering all the toy cap guns they borrowed from me when we played, and the gun I had that shot cork balls had been the envy of all the kids*** until this BB gun, it seems crazy they would think girls weren’t allowed “real” guns. I begged a turn, outshot them all, and never was allowed to touch the gun again. ****Having a girl be the best shot kinda stung for them! LOL
The boys would do this now and then, throw me for a loop with “you are a girl” as a reason I should or shouldn’t do a thing. Being a “sissy” was a common insult used among the kids. A kid should be tough and brave, try never to get crying or show weakness, or sometimes they would even use “like a girl” as an insult.
I learned that my “girly” side was more of a target, so I got so in the toy chest in the living room I kept the guns, cars, blocks, etc for the boys to use, but kept hidden away in my bedroom the girly stuff like dolls. In fact I kept things like play makeup buried in drawer where no one could find them...
Yes, I was a girl, both in my personal identification and as the whole world saw me, and yet I hid my “girl stuff” like a teenager hiding drugs or dirty magazines. It was the big drawback of usually being the only girl. The girly side of being a girl was something to be quiet about.
So grew up thinking that the way to impress a guy was to be strong, tough, smart, brave, and not at all squeamish. If boys admire each other for not being a sissy, then certainly they would admire a girl for being that way.
Oddly enough, never once did a boy reciprocate my crushes because I wasn’t a sissy. Oh, they would like me for it, but it was seeing me as one of the guys and never as romantic potential. Or maybe not oddly. I may be hetero CIS female, but the world sees me as not girly enough in my presentation to quite believe me.
TBH, I still have a problem with that. I never learned the rules of being girly. I never was taught how to put on makeup, do hair, know about fashion, move in that swaying hips and crossed ankles when you sit kind of way...
And down deep I don’t want to have to put on that act. I want to be me. I want someone to love me without makeup or styling, not because of the clothes I wear or because of skills with flirting games. I want to be loved for me, and girly is only part of me. Part of me is walks in the woods where I photograph snakes and spiders. Part of me is climbing in the roof to repair a leak or taking apart the hot water heater to figure out how to fix it....
I have always been a combination of things. Things like how I like romantic comedies and horror films, I picked out my antique sword because it felt like it would swing in my hand well and it had little flowers on the hand guard, or how I love classical and punk.I never wear dresses during the day, because they aren’t practical for my rough and dirty life, plus they can make you very vulnerable. And yet at night I always wear the prettiest nightgown I can find. I had a unique “Captain’s Canopy Bed” as a child, because I loved both the captain’s bed (a bunk woth drawers under it billed as a “boy bed” by people that gender everything) and longed for a canopy bed. My father sensibly combined the two for me. To me it has never been about a contradiction or conflict, but just that different aspects manifest under different circumstances.
I really can’t understand why people are expected to fit into catagories neatly, label themselves, force themselves to deny parts if themselves just to belong. Still, I expect I would be happier if I could have at least forced myself to fake it.
Anyway, the boys were learning girls were “supposed” to be a certain way, and I was constantly insisting this wasn’t true. They would pick on me amd we would fight. Oddly, this “girls can’t” attitude never applied to fighting. They never went easier on me because I was a girl.
Once they got me treed and the henchman boy was told to go get something to hit me with. I warned him not to, but he didn’t listen. As he went to get the weapon I lept out of the tree in a tackle, and began punching him. My grandmother ran out shouting for me to stop. “It’s not ladylike!!” she cried, while I shouted back in frustration “They were going to hit me!!”
Don’t worry, I wasn’t punished. Grandma..well, it’s complicated with her...and my parents would never punish me for something like that. Years later Mom would admit she and Pop were proud if me after that fight. “The boys picked on you so much I was glad you hit them”...
Hmmm, now that I think about it, Mom’s most common response to sexist attitudes in movies and tv shows is to grumble “Oh hit him!” Folks have no idea about Mom’s violent side, the part that watched Xena: Warrior Princess and sighed “I always wanted to be able to leap around and fight like that!” People think she is “sweet”, when Pop was always the family softie! LOL
As we got older, the sexism of the boys got worse and so did our conflict. One boy, a year older than me and the oldest of the usual gang, was the worst. His own mother was a rather strong and independent person, so it was almost confusing how he could be that way. As far as he was concerned the social structure was thatthe older the boy the higher the rank, and girls were at the bottom. It was inevitable that one day their would be an explosion.
The final straw came over, of all things, me wanting to make our gang of friends into a club. It was all the fault if a kids magazine called Dynamite, that put out a book on making your own club, complete with membership cards printed in a fold out of the cover you could cut out. It sounded like a great idea. It wasn’t.
To be honest, I shouldn’t have been at all surprised. By this point the oldest boy had gotten to be a complete pain about gender roles, but also about me in particular. My first day of kindergarten he’d been the only person I knew all day, so when I passed him in the hall I’d said “Hello”. The boy next to him asked who I was and he said “I don’t know!” right in front of me. I had started to consider our “friendship” differently after that, and his now increased insistence that boys were superior increased the rift.
To make matters worse, the boys had developed some sort of age based ranking. When I invited the oldest boy’s little brother to come to the club meeting too, the guy had been outraged. It had seemed natural to me, I mean I invited my little brother. I always wanted to include everyone. To the boys, the younger boys didn’t count and the older you were the more power you were “supposed” to have.
Now for the club I’d fixed up a corner of the shed out back. I put up posters, made a candle (I just loved making candles and melting wax when I was little...us GenXers lived dangerous lives!LOL), set up chairs and a table, had refreshments and, of course, the membership cards. I couldn’t wait for them to show up.
Once the boys arrived I said it was time to elect officers. Immediately the oldest boy announced there was no need and started to pass out the cards. He said he would be president because he was oldest, my favorite boy would be vice president, the thieving henchman would be treasurer because he was next oldest, the other boys would be just members, and I would be...secretary.
Oh he was glad to explain. Girls are always secretaries. Only girls can be secretaries. Girls can never be president. The other boys accepted this.
Naturally I was outraged. This was NOT right! We were supposed to vote! And we were supposed to vote for who would be best for the job, not who was oldest or a boy. Girls CAN be president! And besides, the club was my idea and the clubhouse in my yard so I shouldn’t be stuck being the stupid secretary without even voting!!!!
There was a lot of shouting after that. The boys stormed off, taking the cards with them. I went in the house to take the refreshments, and the boys snuck back to trash the place. They tore the posters, smashed my candle, and turned over the furniture.
I cried.
I was also furious.
I was beyond fed up with the oldest boy and his assumption of leadership. Now my favorite boy did apologize, but he was always the nice one. The others were unrepentant. The oldest boy insisted he was right that girls could never lead.
There was only one thing left to do: Challenge the oldest boy to a duel.
I went right up to him and said I’d had enough. I was challenging him to a fight. One on one, just him and me. No weapons, just our strength. The winner would be the leader of the kids.
I know it’s absurd, but since physical fighting is what they valued I figured I had to go with it. Actually, if anything, a fight would be skewed in my favor. While the boy was a year older, I was a head taller. Where he was lanky, I’d gotten to be a sort of muscular and agile fat.***** Physically the avantage was mine, an since refusing to fight me would be so embarrassing to him I knew I’d get the fight.
He agreed, and then I made a very stupid mistake. I decided to show him a bit of mercy. Since losing to a girl would be so humilating, I set the time and place where we would meet alone for our fight. I wanted to win, to make my point, but I wasn’t trying to shame him.
And so the time came. We met in a back yard, in clear area hidden from windows in case an adult was looking by trees. I wish I could tell you some dramatic blow by blow, but honestly I remember it as very quick. He fancied he knew fighting moves, got into a pose, and I flattened him. Almost admittedly I had him pinned to the ground where I sat on top of him until he admitted I had won.
I went home overjoyed. This lasted until the kids got together. I, oh so foolishly, assumed I was now leader. The boy, however, was not about to give up power...or tell the truth.
As an adult I realize my naivety, but at the time I was 7 or 8. I honestly had believed the boy would have been honest. I always told the truth, so why wouldn’t he? And since we had made a sort of “official” deal, he would be obliged to tell the truth.
He lied. Right there, right in front of me, he lied.
The boy announced he had won. I said he was lying, that I had won, and he laughed. Of course he had won. He was a boy. Did the boys really think a girl could beat him?
I offered to fight him again right there, but he refused saying he’d already won. I couldn’t get him to feel pressured to fight me again because now the boys wouldn’t really want him to. On some level I think they believed me and knew I would win if we fought again. As long as they didn’t see me clobber him they could pretend the boys “deserved” to be in charge. They needed the lie as much as he did.
And so I learned a lesson: witneses matter. People will almost always lie if the truth threatens them.
You know, I think this is why I have always been obsessed with watching when something horrible is happening. I always had this feeling that even when I can’t help, I can be there for the person in some way. I’d listen, watch, and remember. When I was 9 I stood in the snow, no coat and no socks, waiting until a man was removed from a crashed car because I didn’t want to “abandon” him. I would report teachers that did something incredibly wrong, even though I knew the teacher would deny it and I knew my classmates were too afraid to back me up, because the truth had to be known. I wanted to be the witness I needed for that fight, someone to back me up when no one wants to hear the truth.
As a footnote, after the duel failed I tried one more way to defeat the oldest boy: Voodoo!
Well, voodoo by way of a book I’d been reading. It wasn’t real voodoo, or probably like any realistic magical practices. In the book someone had carved a skull into a tree, written someone’s name under it, and the hammered a nail into the center of the skull with devastating consequences to the victim. I had a pocket knife and a nail, so I gave it a go.
Sadly voodoo didn’t work.
Even more sadly the boy grew up to move away from this hick town, get a good job, get married and have kids. In other words, he got a far better life than I’ve had. Oh well, the universe never cares about fairness.
** Actually one boy always won, because TBH I liked everything about him best.
***Hilariously, one of the boys tried to steal my cork gun, claiming it was his. Pop had engraved my name in the gun sight, and when my father pointed at to ask what it said, the boy claimed it was his name! That boy was never very bright, always dishonest, and a born henchman! LOL You know, I bet that toy gun would have been illegal to make just a few years later, just because it literally fired things. Heck, maybe it already was and had been sitting on the store shelf for years before I got it. We couldn’t find one like it a coulle years later for my little brother....
****I want to point out being a good shot runs in the family. Back in the 1960s when my family had to shoot for self defense (long story) Mom was apparently a crack shot. On one side of her family she has had relatives that were at times the official best shot for their branch of the military. One, even as an old man in poor health, liked to show off how he could selectively shoot off small tree top branches a long diatance uphill from him. Plus, Mom likes to mention she is distantly related to Annie Oakley, which is apparenty true.
*****Traumatic stuff happened when I started school, triggering a bunch of sudden changes with me. One was weight gain, but I had stayed strong as ever.

Here Be Dragons | Bellamy Blake x Male Reader
Fandom:The 100
Pairing: Bellamy blake x male reader
Summary: M/N tells Bellamy the stories of dragons and what they mean in grounder culture.
A/N: Oh look! An insert that isn’t star wars or marvel, how refreshing ;). I really love Bellamy, not as much these last 2 seasons, but I still love him! So this takes place in a world where the 2nd Praimfaya never happens so...yay no space or Primes also I just watched Game of Thrones so I was like, dragons. I hope you like it and don’t forget to send in some requests :).
Bellamy walked down the gravel path heading straight for the gates. Some people waved at him and seemed like they wanted to talk but he was on a mission and was not going to stop for anybody. “You off to go see your boyfriend bell?” Anybody but her anyways. Stopping in his place Bellamy turned to look at his sister. Octavia stood there arms crossed with a wicked grin on her face, she knew exactly where her brother was going. Bellamy bit his lip and looked at the ground then back at Octavia,he looked like a kid that had just been caught.
“Actually,I was about to go on a patrol. You know perimeter sweep.” A lie,but he wasn’t about to let his sister know that. “Besides, even if I was going to see (M/N) that’s my business.”
Octavia’s smirk turned into an even wider smile,as she let out a little laugh. “You totally are about to go see (M/N),and it might be your business but if I recall right you never got off Lincoln's case when we first met.” Bellamy pointed a finger at her. “To be fair he kidnapped you.” Octavia’s mouth gaped open. “He did not! He saved me and you know it!” She punched his arm but only in that sibling banter. “Anyways you should go do your “perimeter” check.” Bellamy turned and started walking away when Octavia called out “Make sure to wear protection!” With that, she turned and walked off leaving Bellamy blushing hard and with one question in his head, where DO you find protection in the apocalypse?
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
(M/N) stood deep enough in the treeline to watch Arkadia from the distance. After everything Skaikru has done he doesn’t trust them,he only trusts the hand full of good people he’s met from there. One of them being Bellamy. Speaking of Bellamy,(M/N) watched as the man in question walked towards the spot they agreed to meet at. (M/N)’s eyes meeting Bellamy’s,the two embraced in a deep hug both having missed each other.
Taking a step back (M/N) took a breath. “I’ve missed you. I’m glad you were able to get away.” Bellamy smile at (M/N). “I told Octavia I was going on a perimeter check, she knows I lied.” (M/N) let out a small chuckle, turned around and started walking away. “You’re sister is too clever for her own good. Come on,I want to show you something.”
The two of them walked for what seemed like hours, both catching each other up on what’s been going on in their lives. Bellamy realized that they were no longer in Skaikru or Trikru territory and wondered where they were going,Polis was the other direction so they weren’t going there. “So are you going to tell me where we’re going?” (M/N) looked back at Bellamy and smiled “You’ll see it’s a surprise. Don’t worry we’re almost there.” Continuing their way, both men arrived at the mouth of a cave. (M/N) turned to Bellamy once more and held out his hand. “Take my hand and be quiet,We can’t startle it.” Bellamy took (M/N)’s hand. “What do you mean startle it?” “Sssshhhh”.
(M/N) lead Bellamy through the cave. Luckily enough the cave wasn’t that dark thanks to it being pretty much just a tunnel. When they got to the exit of the cave tunnel they discovered a large oasis surrounded by large tall walls of rock,a large waterfall cascading down from one of them. (M/N) crouched down and motioned for Bellamy to do the same,he put his fingers to his lips as a warning to stay quiet and then pointed to something in the oasis. Next to the water asleep was a large animal Bellamy had never seen before, honestly the radiation changed so many animals it probably looked completely different before the bombs dropped. The animal looked to be a large reptile of sorts, with large wings and black scales and long horns. All at once things clicked into place,he’s heard of this type of description before from story books. Bellamy was looking at a dragon.
“We call them Tikol.” (M/N) said in a whisper. “My people say they were unleashed on the world during Praimfaya. This one is small but that’s because it’s still young, when it grows more it will be large enough to block out the sun.” (M/N) looks to Bellamy with a smile. “My people say they are dangerous,I say they’re friendly if you treat them with respect.” With that (M/N) stood up and slowly started walking over to the creature.
“(M/N) what are you doing?” Bellamy quietly shouted. “Come back over here, that thing could be dangerous.”
(M/N) ignored him and continued on. Reaching into his bag he pulled out some meat he had packed away for this. The dragon lifted it’s head as it sensed (M/N) getting closer, looking at him. Extending the hand with the meat out,(M/N) offered it to the dragon. “It’s okay. We’ve done this before...you’ll be okay,I won’t hurt you.” The dragon seemed to relax at this and took the meat,(M/N) placed his hands on the dragons muzzle. He turned back to where Bellamy was still crouching. “It’s okay. You can come here, just do it slowly.”
Bellamy wasn’t exactly sure what was going through his head but soon he was standing and slowly walking towards (M/N) and the dragon. The eyes of the creature seemed to peer into his eyes and he wasn’t sure how to respond to that. Eventually Bellamy was standing next to (M/N) in front of the dragon, honestly he still couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“It’s okay Bell. Here” (M/N) took Bellamy’s hand in his and slowly held it out to the dragon. The creature smelled his hand for a while, but then it leaned its head in so that Bellamy’s hand could hold it’s muzzle. Bellamy let out a breathe he didn’t realize he was holding. “This is incredible...so dragon’s really exist.” He saw that (M/N) was looking at him. “I guess,so im guessing dragons were a big thing on your time in space?” “It was mostly just from stories,no one believed they existed.” “Well now there's a “dragon” in front of you,I named him Cagon. Would you like to go for a ride?” Bellamy’s head quickly turned to (M/N) with wide eyes. “Ride? You mean like on the dragon?” (M/N) shook his head with that bright smile of his. “No I figured we’d ride the tree over there....yes on the dragon!” Before Bellamy could answer,(M/N) pulled him up onto Cagon’s back. Standing Cagon stretched out his wings and started walking, and then running, and then finally they took off.
Bellamy’s eyes were shut,he couldn’t see them being lifted into the air but he could definitely feel it. Opening his eyes,he could see (M/N)’s back in front of him and when he looked to either side he could see Cagon’s wings flapping and below them the ground far below. “Are you doing okay back there Bellamy?” (M/N) shouted over the wind. “I...I’m doing just fine (M/N),maybe we should go back down?!” (M/N) look back at Bellamy and smiled “Oh come on we just got up here, just give it a little more time!”
After the initial fear of being so high up with little to no safety,Bellamy started to relax. The cold wind rushing past his face, the sound of rushing wind roaring in his ears. He felt at peace. Here in the sky there was no fighting,no arguments,no worries,He and (M/N) were alone with each other. Wrapping his arms around (M/N),Bellamy set his head on his lovers shoulder. The other man letting his head fall on bellamy’s,the two men felt the world fall away from them. (M/N) turned his face a little and kissed Bellamy with as much fire as a dragon. It wasn’t too strong or too weak,it was like they were two people ready to face the world and its challenges. Cagon continued to flay off with the two into the far off distance, later they would have to once again separate and return to their clans, but for now they we’re each other’s clan.

I want honest, ethical, moral, caring, knowledgeable leadership.
Copied from another site. It's so refreshing
:To my Republican Friends, I don't hate you. I heard from a friend of mine today who thought that one of my recent posts was directed at him. It was not. It was a critique of how quickly the GOP leadership has taken to discredit Kamala Harris and paint her as some sort of radical leftist who hates America. Senator Harris is a fine American, and I believe that she will make a great VP.
This past week, Trump said Biden will "Take away your guns, take away your Second Amendment. No religion, no anything." This quote from a man who was paying a porn star for sex while his third wife was pregnant with their son. (and is an atheist)
My Republican friends, I don't hate you. I don't dislike you. My problem is not with you, its with Trump and Trumpism. What I really don't understand is how you continue to support a man who has revealed to us the loathsome narcissist that he really is. He is a dangerous, hateful man who has done all he can to strip away truth, civility, and decorum from our government.
Before Trump, there were no alternative facts, there was no fake news. He has sought to vilify and discredit the media, or anyone that opposes him. If something doesn't agree with his agenda, its fake news. If a fact contradicts him, its "alternative." He has set the stage to dismantle truth itself so that truth is only what he says it is. We have seen this with COVID. "Its a hoax. The numbers are inflated. It will disappear in the Summer. Kids can't get it or transmit it to adults. Schools are safe."
His game plan is and has always been to create a really big lie and hammer down that lie until his followers begin to believe those lies. His hero is Hitler. He and Roger Stone began their little experiment with the birther movement. Make up a lie so big and just hammer it through every conservative media outlet until people believed it. The lie- that Obama was a muslim, born in Kenya, was a terrorist, and hated America. They demanded that he produce his birth certificate. There never was a shred of evidence for any of these claims and when Obama finally produced his birth certificate, the lie was debunked, but the twisted perception remained.
This was an experiment. It worked. If you can control the narrative, you can control perception. If you can control perception, you can control reality. If you can control reality, then there is no truth. The truth then becomes what they say it is. So that's where we are now. We have a president who's plan is to keep us divided while he carries out his agenda of dismantling our institutions. The Senate. The House, the Attorney General. The Supreme Court, The treasury department. Not even the post office is safe.
Trump has normalized many things. Racism, sexism, sexual assault, bigotry, xenophobia. Is this what he meant by making America great again? Where white supremacists and neo Nazis can march in Charlottesville, VA and he says that there are good people on both sides? Since when does any president not denounce Nazis marching in the streets of America? We fought a world war against national socialism, and how here we are dealing with it on our shores.
And now he gasses peaceful protestors in Washington DC so that he can walk across the street for a photo op in front of a church to show how "Christian" he is? He makes accusations of government corruption but refuses to divest his own business holdings or release his tax returns? And now apparently Roger Stone has found Jesus, fresh from being sprung from federal prison.
Folks, these are dangerous times and we have to be able to see this president for who he is. The one who brags about grabbing women by their genitals without consent. The one that claimed that COVID was a hoax and now 160,000 people are dead with 5 million cases of infection, and yet he still has no plan to contain the virus.
When he shows us who he is, we have to believe him. He's the man who took the word of Putin over our intelligence agencies. The man who bullies a teenager on twitter. The man who dishonored John McCain's service as a POW. The man who appoints people to positions in his administration who seem intent on destroying the very organizations they lead ie Betsy DeVoss, Louis DeJoy, etc
.If you don't agree with me, that's fine. I don't expect people to see the world the way that I do. You're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. I call things the way I see em, and the way I see it, if we don't remove this president, our entire Democracy is in serious trouble. Is Joe Biden perfect? No, but there are no perfect candidates, just like there are no perfect people.
Facts matter. Truth matters, and, I will stand up for the truth, no matter how unpopular, seven days a week and twice on Sundays. That's who I am. So don't take this personally, but know that I'm not going to sugar-coat anything, I'm not backing down, and I'm not stopping until the job is finished. The way I see it, the best thing we can do to make America great again, is to elect a new president.

I never actually read Junior Jedi Knights #1: The Golden Globe by Nancy Richardson before, so I figured I’d give it a shot. Like most of Star Wars Legends, it is a trip, but in a fun, if confusing way.
The academy was built to train people to become Jedi Knights, protectors of freedom and justice. Only beings who had shown they were skilled in working with the Force had been invited to attend the academy. Anakin was one of those chosen to attend the first session created for younger children and aliens.
So... Jedi Hogwarts, then. The first Harry Potter book was published in Britain in 1997 and in the US in 1998, and this book was published October 1, 1995, so it actually predates Hogwarts, but I’m still calling it that.
Leia “can’t bear” to have all three kids away at Jedi Hogwarts at the same time, so now it’s Anakin’s term. I’m raising my eyebrows because Leia is a politician assuming she’s not actually Chief of State right now; she’s super-busy and Winter took care of the kids for much of their childhood. It does explain why we never see anyone from the YJK books in this series, and the good-bye scene between Anakin, Leia, and Han is 300% more believable and heart-warming than anything in the Disney ST, so I approve.
Also, here’s some world-building for all your Yavin 4 fics:
“The Great Temple hasn’t been changed much on the outside,” Luke said. He had sensed his nephew’s curiosity. “But we had to change the inside in order to create the academy rooms. We’ve divided some spaces into sleeping and refresher units for you and your classmates. And we’ve hung heavy drapes above the open windows. The windows in the Temple have no glass because the climate here is so warm that we rarely need it. However, every few months we have terrible storms. The temperature drops and rain and winds whip through the jungle. When that happens the heavy drapes keep the temple warm and dry. There’s one place that we haven’t touched, though-the Grand Audience Chamber at the top of the Temple. All of the instructors and students here agree that it is just too beautiful to change,” Luke explained.
(And then everyone who’s seen the movie would be confused! LOL)
HAVE I MENTIONED HOW MUCH I LIKE THAT TIONNE IS A MAJOR PLAYER IN THESE BOOKS? Because I do. Traveling with Luke and rescuing kids, singing songs, being kind... #legend. I don’t think we ever see Kam, though, so I don’t know what he’s up to. It’s literally just Luke and Tionne, plus a bunch of NPCs here.
I don’t get how Anakin can be so good with droids yet not understand Artoo’s Binary, but okay. I love how Artoo just follows him around for... reasons, or he would except Anakin cheats by using the stairs. Ignore Artoo at your peril, kid.
More world-building:
Anakin had reached the Grand Audience Chamber. It was the highest room in the Temple, and unlike the other rooms, it had not been rebuilt for the academy. Gently Anakin pushed open the large doors. He walked into the center of the Grand Audience Chamber. The walls were a deep tan stone, worn smooth over the years. Blueleaf shrubs, the most common shrub on the moon, poked through several cracks in the stones. They attached themselves to the stone with suckers. The shrubs were electric blue, and as Anakin leaned close he could smell a spicy perfume.
(As an aside, I don’t understand why Legends makes the Grand Audience Chamber at the top of the Temple - the room we see in ANH seems too large to fit at the top of a pyramid the size the ones in Chichen Itza. Does anybody have any drawings of the interior of the Temple of Kukulcan or any other Meso-American step-pyramids to confirm or deny this? Also, I don’t get why an audience chamber would be at the top of so many stairs - it seems like you’d want that to be closer to the ground for easier access for the plebes, and keep the upper levels as private space for the aristocracy. But I digress...)
Anakin meets Tahiri, who is from Tatooine and raised by Sand People, because we need to have more movie references and there are only like 5 acceptable planets for Star Wars writers, because movies, so that’s fine. Her defining character traits are impulsiveness, constant chatter, and a distaste for shoes. In light of the prequels, her comments on sand have aged well:
“Where I’m from it’s hot and there’s sand everywhere - gritty sand that sticks between your toes. So, aren’t you going to say something?”
Tionne shows up and sends them to bed. Anakin’s not a morning person. #Relatable. At breakfast, his reaction to Tahiri’s account of her dream in which he saves her on a river is priceless:
Anakin was silent. So this was what his brother Jacen was always talking about. I guess girls do get crushes on boys and say things that make no sense, he thought.
LOLOLOLOL. Also, Anakin says Jacen and Jaina are his best friends and Tahiri laughs and says No, I’m your best friend now like I said yesterday, and MY HEART. These kids. I love them.
Anyway, Luke lectures them on the Force, and it’s mostly Yoda’s sayings all mushed together, and apparently “Believe and you succeed” really is a part of it, so okay then. We swing suddenly from Anakin’s POV to Luke’s and it’s kinda jarring, especially since Luke is only interested in recapping his own personal history and has nothing new to say.
Anakin starts dreaming the same dream as Tahiri and hearing voices, so they sneak out to investigate even though Luke has explicitly warned them not to. Anakin’s so worried about being kicked out, it’s charming...
LOL, Tionne expects them to lift 2-kilo weights with their minds on the first day. What. They do it through the Power of Friendship, because of course they do, in between plotting how to get out of the academy and investigate the dream.
Fortunately, Artoo is there to help! Good old Artoo! He’s got a lot of practice in being sneaky. I have no idea why the raft is conveniently there waiting for them in the jungle, but okay. Tahiri falls in during the storm, but fortunately Anakin is able to use his lesson in TK to save her. They lift Artoo out the same way once they get to their destination, but Tahiri drops him in the water when her control slips. Good thing he’s waterproof!
Anakin name drops Exar Kun and a bunch of Yavin IV backstory. I like that Anakin is Indiana Jonesing his way across Yavin while simultaneously wondering if his uncle’s going to kick him out. Also Artoo brought the only light. They find a mysterious golden globe and a cute animal named Ikrit and cover themselves in glitter before heading back.
Tahiri’s already willing to sacrifice herself for Anakin in case Luke wants to kick them out and they’ve literally just met and this makes me wish I didn’t know what I know about NJO, because now everything hurts.
Luke’s waiting them for them, all stern in his Jedi blacks and.... Artoo steps up and lies for the kids, and he decides he’s not going to end their careers as a Jedi students just yet. LOL.
Meanwhile, Ikrit is curled up in Anakin’s bed - turns out he’s a secret Jedi Master and the voice in Anakin’s head. Turns out the globe is full of trapped children because Exar Kun is a jerk and they can’t tell any adults or it will be destroyed. Ikrit’s been sleeping for hundreds of years waiting for the right kids and he chose them. Of course, Anakin and Tahiri vow to do what they can to help, even though it’s going to be difficult, because of Luke’s lecture earlier, which Anakin can recite from memory (he really does have an eidetic memory, doesn’t he?). The end.
I have so many questions. Why did Artoo help them out? (I assume Ikrit, but I don’t remember if that’s ever explicitly spelled out. And can Jedi talk to droids with the Force? How did Ikrit meet Artoo? It just raises more questions.) Was it Ikrit or Artoo who set up the raft? How did they do that and where did they get it? Does Ikrit even have thumbs? Why couldn’t Anakin and Tahiri just walk to the Palace of Woolamanders or whatever? Did Ikrit really hibernate for four centuries straight or did he wake up every couple of years to stretch his legs and whatnot? Why did he do that rather than, you know, get help or something? Why has Tahiri been dreaming of the river her whole life, only for the dream to suddenly jump to Anakin? Is Ikrit sending her the dreams or is the Force?
I like how there’s such an emphasis on training, when they’ve been on-planet for less than a week (three days??) because that’s how fast the plot moves when you’re eleven (and Tahiri is NINE!). These kids! Did I mention I love them?
Ikrit is technically a Kushiban and not a Hoojib as I’d originally thought. I’m not sure exactly what the difference is, since they’re both sentient telepathic lagomorphs, but that’s fine, I guess. I am fond of the Hoojibs, but I didn’t know about them until @joysweeper posted some Star Wars Marvel comics from the ‘70s with Plif, so they’re not exactly common knowledge. That said, I really like the illustration of Ikrit on the cover, and I’m also absurdly fond of him in spite of the fact that canon is so flimsy here.

Animation Reviews: SVTFOE: Camping Trip
Happy Father’s Day! And today I decided to focus one one of my faviorite characters from star Vs King River Butterfly. For those unware or needing a refresher, River is star’s dad, king of mewni and former prince of the johansons, another royal family on mewni that is rough and tumblr and fight happy, which shows as River is where his daughter gets most of her personality: A love for fighting, boundless energy, lack of boundries... lot of that comes from the poppa. I’ve loved the character but oddly I never got around to watching his second spotlight episode and with it fitting father’s day perfectly, I thought it was sabout time. So join me after the cut as I celebrate father’s day as it was intended: watching a crazy man try to prove his daughter still needs him even though he didn’t really need to.
We open at some sort of national park in Echo Creek... they never really name this park. Weird. Anyway the diazes and star are going camping! Star instantly gets bit by a misquito and tries to use a “Cataclysmic Total Extinction Death BLast” on it forgetting it’s on her arm and apparently forgetting the spell for the rest of the series even when that’d be really useful.. unless that’s what she used on toffee.. food for thought. Anyways Marco stops her from murdering her own arm, and possibly the whole country, and reminds her this isn’t mewni and “Nature’s nice here”.Well he’s not wrong I mean this is also the spot where once every hundred years Donny Most rises from the mist.
youtube
I miss when that show was tolerable. But Marco plans for a bit of fishing, a bit of hiking and then to see the local gyser Old Youthful errupt, which star is all hear for. While his parents ARE around and drove them there, they won’t be coming as they prefer painting their actions to slide shows. IT’s a good gag and a good explination. Before Star can ruminate on it being just the two of htem a metor crashes into a mushroom cloud which turns out to be River who screams CAMPPPINNNG and could somehow sense his daughter was going camping and rather than just portal in normal made one in the sky and meteored to the ground.. what a legend. Naturally River joins up as he taught star to camp and is clearly not happy about Marco trying to teach her to camp earth styles, we’ll get to the why as we go. Marco TRIES to teach him to fish... but, despite what he’ll teach later, patience, like with his daughter is not river’s strong suit so he does what any conan would do: grab a rock and beat the water with it before biting up his own foot in a rage. Well when you love fish like he does you want them to die with dignity.
Cut to the trio walking the trail, with Marco going slow because River’s foot is torn up because you know he bit it a lot and likely sharpens his teeth. River refuses any offer for help, does a handstand and offers his daughter a piggy back ride which she refuses before running off. Star tracks him by using her wand as an infared tracker.. which it can do.. and again never used again. She mary poppins her and marco up into a tree where they find an Eagle, with Marco understandably not wanting to get htem arrested while River is trying to break it’s spirit to fly them there before having a slow motion breakdown as why he came, and why he’s acting so weird become apparent as he , out loud so marco and star can hear: battles with his own inner monologue about possibly being replaced by marco, the possiblity of star dating, because he was apparently clearly in denial about her former relationship with tom despite his parents probably not being subtle about it, and is thankfully interupted by the local park ranger. River pays off his fines iwth a pile of gold he apparently keeps in his loincloth.. or up his butt, probably both. With time running out according to the park ranger, the group set out again, finding a maze of trails. They choose poorly and end up 50 miles from the gyser and river, realizing this MIGHT just be his fault, decides to go get a ride. Naturally given this is River he steals a bear and has to give the sherif his crown and more ass gold. Marco is upset they didn’t make it while Star finally calls her dad out for acting even crazier than usual and ruining Marco’s chance to see old youthful. We then get a nice moment as it turns out Marco has seen it at least 10 times, it’s just with all the wonderful, impossible things star has shown him since she met.. he wanted to show her some special as a way of paying her back. I missed THIS marco: a good natured, normal kid who while he can kick ass deepd own is just a decent person trying to do the right thing instead of the selfish , jealous nightmare he’d be for 2/3 of season 3. And it says something that this moment is genuinely touching and mildly romantic versus .. well the entire last third of season 4. River is touched and while Marco’s prepared to just go see it another time the park ranger says the gyser is drying up and this is the last time.. and the way he phrases it hits river hard, so he’d determined to piggy back ride those teenagers all the way to that gyser dammit! So river runs ALL THE WAY THERE, up waterfalls over rocks and past a war reinactment, before passing out as they reach it.. and it’s already splooshed it’s last sploosh.
River is finally somehwat honest about his insecurity: he tells star she needs someone younger to take care of her like her boyfriend marco here.. and while it’s been obvious since his conversation with himself on the eagle’s nest, it isa nice conflict: while we’ve seen the “Parent is worried their older child will grow past them thing” dozens of times, hell disney even made a whole movie about it starring everyone’s faviorite dad Goofy, but this one feels unique, as River’s also clealry dealing with his age and his daughter growing up and being away from him. It’s understndable and takes what could’ve been, and at times still is a cartoon cutout ofa man and gives him a suprising amount of depth. It’s part of what made this show work when it did work: It had weird shit happening all the time but like say, Bojack Horseman, the characters still felt belivieble and grounded despite the weird as hell setting.
Marco corrects her on the boyfriend part he poitns out how river just climbed up a waterfall and carried them miles in minutes, while Star reassures her dad she’ll always need him. After a daughter dad hug, awww, Marco playfully shoves river accidently knocking River into the gyser.. which errupts again, sending him into the air, sending star oooing and having the other ranger at the station tell the one we’ve been seeing to stop lying abotu the gyser, no matter how fun it is. River is thankfully alive and OH GOOD GOD... you know after THIS yesterday.
I thought I woudln’t find anything more horrifying for a while. You know I mean look at Gregg and Drupe. You’d think I couldn’t top that... you’d be wrong. Behold freshly steam shaven burned looking like a new born baby river.
That that’s burned in my mind now.... we also get a bit of the diazes showing paintings of this horror show climbing and the episode ends but just.. my eyes.. the goggles do nothing. Still better than waking up with mud on your dick...
Final Thoughts; GAH WHY DID I PROVIDE THAT IMAGE I’M NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO CONCENTATE. Here have abe simpson talking about sex I need something less horrifying to buffer that image.
youtube
Okay good we have a buffer, i’m glad I finally watched this one. Itt’s damn good. River’s antics are funny, but dont’ go too far into unlikeable as we get where he’s coming from and he does get called out, Not much more to say, it’s funny heartwarming and as good as the series was at it’s best and focused on a character I love dearly for his antics, while giving him a good amount of depth, something later seasons would keep up every so often. So like this review if you enjoyed it, follow for more, shoot me asks about my reviews or with suggestions for future one and until next time, later days.

Rise of Skywalker should’ve been the entire trilogy.
Allow me to explain: Opening crawl to Force Awakens: The emperor is dead! The New Republic has enjoyed twenty years of peace and rebuilding after the Battle of Endor under the leadership of Galactic Minister Leia Organa. But, on the eve of her resignation, a voice from the past has been broadcast across the galaxy. The First Order, a group of Empire loyalist, has been waiting in the shadows for just this broadcast. Uprisings across the galaxy have erupting and the new peace has been threatened. With Luke Skywalker missing, Leia sends one team to find her brother and another to find the source of the broadcast. Poe Dameron, the Republic’s best pilot, heads to the planet of Jakku where an old Republic friend has information on Skywalker’s whereabouts. *End Crawl* The beginning of Force Awakens opens pretty much the same. Poe locates Old Guy, gets the information and gives it to BB8, then gets captured. Finn questions his position in the First Order. Kylo is introduced, as is the First Order’s harsh nature. The village isn’t ready for an attack and maybe there’s a throw-away line about “peace”. Finn’s scene reveals old stormtrooper tactics are still being conducted with the First Order. Poe should say something like “The Republic has outlawed kidnapping children” or something. Maybe he’s also surprised to see so many storm troopers. It should be evident that This Doesn’t Happen Anymore and is another thing for Finn to think about (”if it doesn’t happen, why did it happen to me? Where do I come from? Why am I doing this?”). They escape and crash. Rey is introduced the same too. She’s an orphan living alone in the scraps of the Empire, trying to survive. She meets BB8, property of the Republic and wonders why a Republic droid is this far from the galaxy capital. Finn finds her and they escape in a ship that isn’t the Falcon. They start to get boarded by a Ship We Don’t See and panic, thinking it’s the First Order hunting them. It’s actually Han Solo and the falcon. He returned to smuggling but heard a plea for help from the Republic. Rey questions why he’s not with his wife but he deflects the question, saying something like he’s “not one for politics” or maybe “peace doesn’t pay the bills”. MEANWHILE, Kylo is angry the pilot and droid got away, as he’s also trying to find Skywalker. He asks to hear the broadcast and it’s revealed that it’s Palpatine’s voice declaring ownership of the galaxy and for the loyalist to rise up. He demands any new leads, of which there are none. It’s revealed that the First Order has been decades in the making, even during the Empire should it fall. His character is very much revealed as ruthless and has something to prove. Han takes the kids to a remote “safe spot” where smugglers, bounty hunters and other criminal frequent. This is where Maz is. She’s force-sensitive, but not a Jedi and says something like “The Jedi weren’t responsible for peace but for war” or SOMETHING to open the line of questioning about the past republic system. Rey says she feels something here, something she never felt on Jakku. “They say no one remembers Jakku, not even the Force” or something to indicate maybe the Force is “blocked” or something. This would later give reason to Rey being left there ( abandon a force-sensitive girl on a force-void planet. Also, Luke leaving any information being left of Jakku would also make sense. Who looks for a Jedi on a planet where he can’t use his power. Also, it could be an old Sith Planet. Have a line about “the Jedi never went to Jakku. It’s history with the sith make it unbalanced with the Force”. That would leave it open for guessing what happened there before while still explaining that Jakku was not a planet people went to.) If you really want to stay true to the movie, stick with the First Order having a Death Star planet-destroyer ray. This would make sense because they want to RULE THE GALAXY AGAIN and this is a time of peace. So they DESTROY the New Republic. There’s a moment of fear for Han and gang about Leia. The First Order then attacks Maz’s place for the droid and we get the same results. You can end the movie the exact same way. We find our Kylo is Han’s son, Han dies. Leia is fine, steps down as leader of the Republic but into the role of general again. (Afterall, the ENTIRE REPUBLIC was just terribly attacked. It’s war for the first time in two decades.) On the ship, Rey should discover the broadcast. Maybe this is the first time we hear it and someone says “That’s the Emperor. But he’s dead” or something. Or she SEEMS to recognize the voice but doesn’t say anything. Either way, Rey is then directly connected to what’s going on with the galaxy. For the first time in her life, she’s directly involved with the fate of the galaxy. It ends with Leia getting the information about where Luke is and Kylo getting a clue on where the Emperor’s broadcast came from. Rey finds Luke, Kylo finds... a sinister planet. Basically, the beginning of Rise of Skywalker is the ending of Force Awakens. We don’t see who Kylo finds, adding drama and suspense. Maybe we have the line “I have been the voice inside your head this whole time” and the Emperor’s laugh but we shouldn’t see him. Cue- The Last Jedi Leia and co are under attack by the First Order. The galaxy is in chaos with the destruction of the Republic Capital. The Galactic Minister that was supposed to take over for Leia is MIA and so Leia is forced to do both politics AND battle strategy. Someone offhandedly makes a comment about how “this is how the Emperor got his power last time.” Therefore, doubt is being cast on the New Republic and Leia in general. Conflict! Drama! Last Jedi happens the same with Rey and Luke, revealing he left the “Jedi” after failing to restart the Jedi Order. We learn that Kylo/Ben was a failed student and he couldn’t face his sister and brother in law afterwards. Again, this reflects on the prequeals (not that anyone wants to connect to that) and criticizes them for what they did before (took children from their homes/families, rallied hard against the sith and threw the galaxy into way. It’s a great way to criticize the prequeals while actually giving them A Point, yknow?) HOWEVER, the space race with Leia, Poe and Finn doesn’t happen. Or rather, it does but not for the entire movie. They try to outrun the First Order ships to get to a safe point. Poe is frustrated with the chain of command not saying anything to anyone and tries to mutiny under the guise of Leia being incapacitated during a firing attack and rumors on the ship that people INSIDE THE REPUBLIC are trying to restart the Empire. Finn attempts to leave to find out where he came from but is stopped by Rose, thinking he’s a deserter. She traps him and Poe comes to find them, talks about the mutiny. Rose, having just lost a sister from the First Order attack, is horrified to hear it might be an inside job and agrees to the mutiny to get answers. Finn realizes Poe, his first ever “friend” is asking for his help and agrees to stay and support him. Leia wakes up in time to stop the “mutiny”. It’s revealed they’re heading to a secret Rebellion base, used during the wars that no one but Leia and Holdo knows about. But, she agrees, someone is helping the First Order track them through hyperspace. She turns to Finn and for a horrifying moment, everyone believes HE’s THE SPY. Storm troopers have implanted tracking chips, Leia explains. It’s been outlawed in the New Republic but the Empire used tracking chips to ensure absolute loyalty. She asks Finn if he knew. He didn’t. He agrees to undergo an surgery to remove the chip and it’s clear in his face he’s reflecting on the idea of continuing to help the First Order even after rebelling. He’s been a tool his whole life and can’t escape it. The tracking device is removed and the Republic makes for the hidden base. Meanwhile, confrontation on the main First Order ship with Rey, who came from Luke’s planet and Kylo. Kylo, with the whole movie “seeing” her, is trying to get her to rebel. She shows up, dedicated to “save him” but Kylo reveals she knows who she is. “You’re a Palpatine” he says, as the reveal. “You belong to the dark side. We KNOW how to run the galaxy so no child is parent-less again.” Rey refuses and she’s faced with a room full of guards and Kylo. Kylo orders her to be let free but Hux, being as he’s been (the Tarkin character) orders them both dead (BETRAYAL!!) Rey finds herself fighting along side Kylo and, even thought she failed to save him, she’s not sure he’s beyond redemption. However, her own reveal is haunting her. The republic has gained safety in the hidden base. But then! The First Order shows up. Finn yells it’s not him (funny moment) and of course not but how did they know about the base?! Oh no! Finn runs a suicide run to defeat the first order from destroying Leia and the remaining acting government? But Rose stops Finn from sacrificing himself with a message more like “you were raised for evil, but you deserve good.” instead of her stupid protest. This is stating to Finn “YOU ARE VALUED BEYOND WHAT YOU CAN GIVE” I don’t even know what to fill in for the casino scene. Maybe Finn and Rose going to a more Republic town that talks about the differences between the Republic and Empire, something that skews the line so that it reveals citizens are confused from propaganda on both sides and the role of the Empire is just a “concept” to younger people. It’s a great metaphor for WWII. Also reflects how you “can’t trust the government, can’t trust the Jedi” mentality. It’s refreshing for Star Wars fans while also being politically correct. There’s no right or wrong about the message so it still works in the Disney family. ANYWAY. Last Jedi ends with Rey saying she needs more training and Leia smiling. Even though Luke is gone, Leia has the means and desire to train Rey. “As a Jedi?” “As a promoter of peace” again to reiterate that the Jedi are DEAD as is their belief. In the next movie, we’ll see more of that. Also, it should be revealed by LUKE, that he is not the last Jedi, but Leia is. It’s probably revealed by him when Rey heads out to help the Republic. She asks Luke to take on his position, “Be a Jedi!” but he reveals. “I am not a Jedi. The path of Jedi was peace. I never was. Leia, she’s the jedi.” This reveals that Leia is the last Jedi and maybe the “past training” montage takes place in Last Jedi. Anyway, Leia is revealed as the Last Jedi. During Rise of Skywalker, Rey is trying to find the evil behind Kylo, aka Palpatine. So she is searching for the Sith Planet. This leaves her a bit MIA while Finn and Poe try to find more information on the First Order. Especially because the New Republic is in desperate need of help since the government is destroyed. Basically, the Last Jedi ends with on the idea that “the New Republic is dead thanks to attack, propaganda and doubt of the government. Stakes!!! Anyway, Leia says they need to find the source of the “First Order” and rey is off to search, all the while Kylo is starting to question his position (like FINN!!!) but Palpatine tries to use his parent’s transgressions to keep him loyal. (It also starts weighing on him, like Rey, like maybe he’s just being the tool he was trying to avoid being for the Jedi, but only for the Sith.) Rey tries to find a “wayfinder” from the first movie, leads her to the Death Star Crash Site. Finn meets fellow Storm Troopers who have rebelled and made their life on their own. He learns from them that it’s not important where you came from, or what you did, but what you strive to do. Leia dies trying to reach Ben and Poe gets notification that he’s the new LEADER OF THE REPUBLIC, like, not just the general but LEADER. He struggles to understand what that means. He’s been impulsive in the past and has learned politics through the mutiny so he’s not confident with his position. Maybe before Rey leaves, she says something like “power belongs to those that don’t want it” or something, bc she’s thinking about being a Palpatine” while Finn says “You were kind to an enemy, you’ve got my vote” or something to indicate that Poe believes in kindness over enforcement (reflecting on the mutiny) The galxy coming together to fight against the First Order/Palpatine in the end would mean more. That the galaxy fights for Peace, for the Republic would be a great moment after all those moments of doubt and manipulation. Palpatine would be defeated again by the REPUBLIC, by people that believed in the good of other people. Rey would still have a whole conflict about her “heritage of evil” while Kylo would have a full teenage rebellion arch. Basically, Kylo would eventually be redeemed like the Star Wars way while Rey succumbed more and more into darkness and hate (My parents SOLD ME, I’m the granddaughter of the EMPEROR, I mean nothing but my power) WHAT THIS ACCOMPLISHES: The ending isn’t rushed. Palpatine isn’t “oh hey, he’s alive” but instead a questionable option throughout three movies. It also expands on the lore of Star Wars with the Sith stuff and hopefully explains why certain people are more adapt at the Force (Palpatine explains his bloodline is PURE and maybe he created the Skywalker bloodline so they have a link. Or whatever they deiced to do. Maybe it’s “Skywalker was pure of Force, so I had to create my own” or something. Make the lore interesting, especially since they destroyed all of it, bastards.) Anyway, Kylo’s sacrifice MEANS something, because Rey was the first person he felt believed in him. Palpatine wasn’t a random “Oh btw, i’ve been here all along!” And the New Republic wasn’t disregarded but heavily scrutinized to create a better galaxy. It really explains the aftermath of the Empire without staying in the status quo. It doesn’t disregard what the original trilogy did but expands on it. It also unites the mistakes of the Prequels to a tangible ending. Also.... The Emperor makes so much sense, though the daughter/son should’ve been a lot older. Maybe make Rey a Great Granddaughter. Because family life in an important stance for politics, so “Senator Palpatine” would be totally more believable to have a family. Maybe we didn’t see it but I think it’s okay to say that he had a wife. A flashback about his SON, who wanted nothing to do with politics, would explain why he wasn’t evident in the prequels but also the idea of Rey being abandoned. “No one escaped the Emperor, not even his Son.” With the dialogue of the Rise of Skywalker, he didn’t give a shit that she was family except that she could give him a new body, like Voldemort.” Anyway, the “Final Order” is just an old “Empire” plot Palpatine has been saving and building. It’s not that each star destroyer has the means to destroy planets but that the Republic is so vulnerable right now. This is a sinister enough plot because not only are they the reason the New Republic has failed but they are also causing strife and doubt about the New Republic not being better than the Empire. Also, you have Rey struggle with Power vs. Corruption and then removes herself from the galaxy. You also have Leia being the Last Jedi, as intended, even though she put away her lightsaber for the galaxy. You also have the answers to the important plot questions: 1. Why is this happening NOW (bc the changing of the guard for the New Republic is a great time to sow distrust and propaganda) 2. Why are these characters important to the plot (Because Rey is the grand/great grand daughter of the last Emperor, Ben is the son of the ruling figure, Poe is a great man in line for the “throne”/leadership and Finn is a victim of the wars/ a regular joe shmoe that could change the war” 3. What do your characters want? (Rey wants to be part of something, learn where she comes from; Finn wants to understand why he’s here and what he has to offer; Poe wants to do the right thing) 4. What’s the conflict in the story? (Rey learns she could destroy the Republic and her search may have put everyone she’s grown to love in jeopardy; Finn has to reconciling being a pawn in way with being a PERSON to make a choice and what that means for his identity; Poe is battling the “do everything for good” mentality with his past mistakes and questioning how “good he really is.) Overall, all three of the “trio” teach us about choices, destiny, upbringing and that doing what’s RIGHT is a choice. Which is the main goal for Star Wars. Luke was the son of the most ruthless dictator and he fought against temptation. Anakin loved more than any Jedi and it lead to him choosing Her over EVERYTHING ELSE. Palpatine represents complete temptation and power.

I did not get around to this yesterday but, a short selection of fictional things that meant a lot to me over the last decade! ...it is going under a cut bc it is Too Long sorry lmao.
Books
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng: this book came out in September 2017 and I have read it four times already. It’s the kind of book I want to write but I’m not sure I’m clever enough to: every event and every character is so purposeful and you won’t catch everything the first time through. Every time I reread it I find something new to marvel at. I hope the Hulu series is half as good
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng: this was the first piece of fiction I ever found with a family with a Chinese father and a white mother. This family is a lot less functional than my family, but I've read this three times because that means the world to me.
Ash by Malinda Lo: I discovered this in 2011 and it was the first f/f novel I ever read, and as I would later learn, one of a handful with a happy ending at the time, particularly in YA fiction. For a long time, I reread it every time I felt hopeless. I just reread it again last month and it is still as beautiful and meaningful to me as in 2011.
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan: This is an Asian-inspired fantasy (becoming more common now, but still irritatingly rare) written by a queer Asian woman, with f/f. I think it is only the second one of these, after Ash? It is frustratingly rare, anyway. The worldbuilding is incredible also.
The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan: We are getting more stories about biracial Asians, but they are still pretty rare and I treasure every one. This one felt so real to me.
The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth: The first half of this book captures so beautifully what it’s like growing up queer in a religious environment when you don’t even have the words or self-awareness to know what you’re feeling. This was another one I read over and over again when I was feeling low.
The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater: this is just a book for horse girls. I don’t know how else to describe this lol. I also feel like the romance is super downplayed until the very end, and honestly barely feels like a romance to me, so that’s refreshing!
Movies:
Pacific Rim (2013): I remember having this weird feeling when asked to give my top 3 movies once in high school, like maybe my favorite movie hadn’t come out yet so I couldn’t answer properly. I was right; this is the movie I was waiting for. This is my favorite movie. The feelings this movie gives me is the standard I hold all movies to.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019): but Megan, didn’t this just come out? Yes, and it’s my other favorite movie now. I love (almost) every second of this movie. This movie made me feel a way that I thought maybe I might never feel again, after a certain other franchise movie this year took a dump on my heart. I don’t care that we’re never getting a sequel, we got this and that’s enough for me.
Thor (2011): Those of you who have been around awhile know that I really love this movie. I loved it before we all jumped on the Thor train after Ragnarok and I will continue to love it probably my whole life. It just makes me happy.
Aquaman (2018): This is Thor but underwater and with a biracial hero. It made me cry in the theater and I do not want to hear any negative opinions about it, I find them personally wounding.
Belle (2013): The fact that Gugu Mbatha-Raw isn’t a superstar is tragic, and this movie is gorgeous and lovely and made me feel a lot of things as a biracial person.
Mad Max Fury Road (2015): I remember seeing the trailer for this in the theater and going “yikes that looks like a thing I would never watch.” Joke’s on you, past me!!!! I find this a deeply stressful but glorious film that I can only watch like, once or twice a year.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010): I do not need or want to hear about how this movie is Problematic, I know all of its issues, and yet. It brings me joy and it was one of the first movies I saw when I was just starting to break out of my religious upbringing and I laugh until I cry every time I watch it.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015): I am starting to realize that I am not and never really was a Star Wars Fan, which is to say that like...I love this movie specifically, I love the characters, I love the interactions, I love the stuff that happens. I do not so much love Star Wars as a whole? I like it fine! But this movie is the only part of the franchise to really make me go “oh, I get it.”
Professor Marston and the Wonder Women (2017): This was a weird little movie that nobody saw and nobody talked about, but I adore it because it’s so gentle and romantic. I don’t know how accurate it is to history and frankly I do not really care.
Big Hero 6 (2014): are you tired of me mentioning I’m biracial yet? This movie has biracial protagonists and a cute squishy robot and no romance and superhero stuff and I love it so much.
F8: The Fate of the Furious (2017): I went to go see this on a whim with my wife and it was one of the most joyous theater experiences of my life. I don’t know, I just love everything about it.
TV shows:
Community: This only kind of counts because it started in 2009 but I started it mid-s2 so eh. Seasons 1-3 of this show are written on my heart, I can quote a ridiculous amount of dialogue from them and these characters will stay with me forever. Warts and all, this is my show.
Dollhouse: Another technicality but like, I met my wife because we both loved Bennett Halverson so I gotta put this on here. It’s pretty significantly affected my life! Also I find that it holds up fairly well, if you’re down for the admittedly iffy premise and an ending that’s a bit of a mess narratively due to sudden cancellation.
Agents of SHIELD: I would never claim that this show is “good” but I do think that it has mostly figured out what the hell it’s doing. And it has been a pretty significant part of my fandom life for the last 6 years, so to leave it off this list would feel wrong. It gave me Daisy Johnson, first canon biracial superhero as played by a biracial actor, and for that i will always be grateful.
Warehouse 13: I could not tell you why I fell so deeply in love with this dumb, badly written show that shit the bed in the final episode more spectacularly than I could have imagined, and yet I did! I think probably it is because I love found family so much, and also I find goofy camp charming more often than not. And of course, there is Bering and Wells, the femslash ship that fandom forgot. I will never be over how no one knows what we have suffered!!!!!
Runaways: wow was this a surprise! The Runaways comic is my favorite comic besides Marjorie Liu’s X-23 run, and this show has basically nothing to do with it, and normally that would piss me off but they got my kids’ personalities down so well and all of the actors are so perfect that I really can’t complain. And also, this show has canon f/f and neither of them die at the end! Which is...better than some other shows I could mention!
Doctor Who series 1 and 5: I had a very intense Doctor Who phase in college, and after all was said and done and I quit the show for a time, I realized that although I love a lot of the characters, and Thirteen’s run is pretty good so far, what I really loved was Nine’s run and Eleven’s first season. That is the show at its best to me. Eccleston is my Doctor and Amy is my favorite companion.
Legends of Tomorrow: Look, I am as shocked as anyone that this, the scrappy underdog of the DCTV lineup, is the one that’s most emotionally competent and has the best character arcs! But here we are. Season 4 was some of my favorite TV I’ve seen, uh, ever.
Albums
Dirty Computer by Janelle Monae: I listened to this for basically a year straight after it came out. It’s just ridiculously good.
Something Fierce by Marian Call: This was my on-repeat album in college. i drew a lot of strength from it, and I think that it’s still the best album to recommend to people who ask me about her.
Standing Stones by Marian Call: I heard most of these songs live at concerts before they were quite done yet, so it was really special to get to hear them all collected together like this. I’m going to get a tattoo with a lyric from one of these songs because no one’s quite been able to put my basic philosophy into words quite like Marian.
Heartthrob by Tegan and Sara: Hot Take, I know, because a lot of people hate this album, but it was so affirming to go out and buy A Lesbian Album from A Lesbian Band in 2013.
The Rent movie soundtrack: I know, I KNOW, but in my defense, my parents got me this for my birthday my first year of college and I needed it so desperately. I can definitely still do “La Vie Boheme” from the beginning and probably most of the other songs too.
In the Heights OBCR: I can only listen to this when I want to cry, but it’s my favorite musical. I got to see the show in 2018 and it was incredible. I think it’s better than Hamilton and I can’t wait for the movie to come out.
Trouble by Natalia Kills: this album is really great and also it says fuck a lot, which I used to be very nervous about hearing or saying, and this helped immensely!

As tempting as it was to try and write this slightly in character, I’ve been sick these last several days so I’ll try and lessen it, especially for those of you who read this blog and aren’t particularly into Star Wars (That said, if anyone is here from my old SWTOR blog, a Rising Moons/Bright Suns to you depending on where you may be in the universe!). I’m also probably going to bring up a bit other facets of my trip to Disney World, but the focus is absolutely going to be in the brand new area– Galaxy’s Edge where you can visit Batuu and get a feeling of full immersion in the Star Wars Universe.
I wouldn’t really call myself the biggest Star Wars fan, but I like it enough to still enjoy several aspects of it. What I found myself most excited for was using the new Datapad mode through the Play Disney app once we arrived in Batuu. I absolutely adored collecting things in SWTOR so being in this immersive world where we can scan things and do jobs and quests and collect things? Completely up my alley.
While I wouldn’t mind my face not just being a black silhouette, there’s still some fun outfits. As hard as I tried though, I wasn’t able to do everything. I will say as much fun as I had with the Datapad, there were a few… issues I ran into with it. Less about the app itself, but oversights with having this type of connectivity and immersion.
For one, there isn’t a lot of seating. This isn’t really too surprising– besides for immersion reasons, it helps keep people moving and to be honest, it never felt incredibly crowded outside the shops a bit. Because of this though, people essentially make their own seats, whether it be the sides of plants or most commonly, the various crates lingering around. Which wouldn’t be so much of an issue if most of the crates weren’t used for the Datapad game. Various crates of all sizes have a QR code like this, either vertically like below or horizontally: There were many times I ended up passing by areas missing them because people were covering them– whether leaning on it or with their legs while they sat down on it. While some people knew about the app (or recognized it after seeing multiple people playing and having them ask people to move), most had no idea and didn’t realize they were blocking anything. And sometimes people need to sit and nobody really wants to interrupt someone who just wants to take some photos, but there were times I ended up just waiting around for 5-10 minutes for someone to be done to finally scan something for two seconds. Some can even be facing inward which, at least for me, weren’t always easy to reach.
In the end, I managed to get 9/15 Outfits, 3/8 Weapons, 7/11 pieces of Cargo, 12/20 Parts & Scraps, 2/4 The Interior Star Maps, 3/3 New Territories Star Maps, 1/4 The Slice Star Map, 0/2 Trailing Sectors Star Maps, 1/3 Western Reaches Star Map, 2/4 Unknown Regions Star Maps, 8/8 Vehicle Schematics, 0/1 Schematics Data (though, I swear I had this?*), 4/8 Droid Data Memories, 4/5 Dok’s Den Dealings Transmissions, 0/3 Kase Double-Cross Transmissions, 0/2 A Strange Feeling Transmissions, 0/3 A Lifelong Companion Transmissions, 1/3 Debts to Oga Transmissions, 0/3 Life in the Outpost Transmissions, 1/3 Dhoran’s Mistake Transmissions, 1/3 DJ R-3X Transmissions, 1/2 Droid Problems, 1/2 Resistance Operatives Transmissions, 2/4 First Order Comms Transmissions, 0/1 OTS Recruitment Transmission, and 0/1 Monkey Lizard Sighting Transmission. As for titles, I have 23/40 unlocked. I probably won’t unlock all the First Order ones, but I have 2/5 of them thus far. I really want to get the Galactic Explorer title. I also don’t see myself earning Bankrupt or a few others unless something with the requirements change.
*I believe this is the Credits Skimmer. I never really figured out how to utilize it properly. But maybe it just doesn’t show up properly while out of the park.
While you have full control over the crates (barring… anyone sitting on and/or blocking them), the transmissions I had a lot of trouble with. I found my phone just did not seem to pick them up often and they would be gone fairly quickly (like it’d be there and gone within the next refresh even if I didn’t move). Hacking seemed to work the best, but some just… worked in awkward ways (For example, I found I had nothing to hack in the Cantina despite a few things requiring DJ R-3X to be). It felt like I had to walk in circles to really get it to work. Speaking of the Cantina though, we actually went in for breakfast as I just… had to try the Moogan Tea: It was amazing. I actually got a second one to go. We also had some Batuu Bits which were really tasty. I’d love to go again for dinner, though, hopefully we can actually sit next time… Fingers crossed they will have the new dishes that their other location has too.
Moving on, the thing I had the most trouble with was actually the translating. The automatic rarely actually picked up anything I was near (and I needed to hold my phone up in front of it when it was) while it was also near impossible to really do so manually without holding up traffic. I don’t really know a better way to do it, but I ended up making no progress on it because of that. It would translate fine when it actually worked– the problem was just getting it to pick up what I needed.
The jobs were definitely the most fun and for the most part, worked the smoothest. I did almost every job with the exception of some of the First Order jobs– I only did the ones that would get me an item over just credits. I never received more jobs on a different day (though, I could repeat the ones I did), but I’m hoping more may be added in the future.
The exception to “working smoothly” though is “Flight Crew Wanted”, a big multi-step job that requires you accomplishing certain things while in the queue (normal queue– not fast pass and not single rider’s) for Smuggler’s Run. As much as I enjoyed the right (well, sort of– we’ll get to that), this is where I found some of the biggest oversights are for the Datapad mini-game. The job involves helping out Hondo Ohnaka and starts off wanting you to scan crates you will see along the line. There are a lot of crates and occasionally, you’ll be asked questions about where they go. How many crates you scan and how many questions you answer correctly determines what the characters will say about you and how well your performance was.
The biggest issue is that this is a moving line. If the line is moving incredibly slow and it’s a huge line, well, maybe it’ll work out, but unfortunately for health-related reasons, I actually can’t stand for long periods of time. If the line is moving that slowly, I wouldn’t even be able to stand in it. If the line is moving at a fair pace, you can’t scan fast enough and you end up blocking the line so I can either get separated from my party or end up just letting people pass me. It’s incredibly hard to balance and even when we tried to, it just became too much as we kept seeing more and more crates and even ones we missed due to not looking around enough.
Next, you’ll be memorizing various different IDs and then answer questions asked about it. I’m not sure how many you have to do in order to have “done enough”– but one surely was too little. You have a good amount of time to do this at least and this is probably the step you can work on the most as it really doesn’t require a specific area to be in to take care of something. You just need to be after the crates and before the look-out deck… which is where the next problematic step comes. You’ll be going past four large windows above the Millenium Falcon and again, depending on the line queue, this isn’t exactly the easiest to do. You will be asked questions about the ship and need to answer accurately in order to pass.
Once that is done, it’s time for the actual ride part and your performance matters. Whatever credits you earn from the ride will get you those credits in your datapad and even an achievement based off how much you can earn. At most, if you do everything perfectly, you can earn 13,000 credits, the amount going down based on your performance and how much damage the ship takes. And that is what brings us to our biggest oversight– each “party” for the game consists of six people. And not everyone is likely to want to do the ride just like you. There’s two pilots, two engineers, and two gunners. While you can see if someone may want a different pass than you (Someone is our group had been engineer before so I traded them my gunner pass as I didn’t want to be engineer), you can’t really do anything about having different ideas in mind for what you want to do. In general, there’s essentially these groups of people:
People who want to do everything perfectly
People who want to fail completely
People who just want to enjoy the ride for the heck of it
People who are just there for someone else
The other half of our party mentioned having an issue as one of the pilots was a little kid. A similar situation happened with a friend. There will be kids on this ride. That is absolutely expected. And while I absolutely believe some kids can do a great job, there are also plenty of kids who do not care in the slightest or are only there because their parent/guardian wants to be on the ride. And I genuinely worry slightly on the kids part because someone will absolutely get annoyed and take it out on their party members and that’s kind of the problem with these group teamwork things, especially if you do not know enough people to make a full party.
When we go to Disney, we have anywhere from 2-5 people usually. Not enough for a full group and one of those people would absolutely not go on it due to motion sickness. It ended up being three of us going on the ride with three people we didn’t know. My husband and our friend ended up being in the pilot seats with me as an engineer while our newly met crew members would be the two gunners and the other engineer.
In the end, while I managed to keep my side of the ship at 100%, the other engineer didn’t do as well with 15% damage done halfway through and even more by the end of it. My husband also messed up with the breaks at one point.
The ride is incredibly reflex intensive and the thing is, and unfortunately this is the other big oversight with it, the best chance you have at doing your best is not actually watching the ride at all. Maybe I could’ve done it regardless, but in the end, I had rarely watched any of the ride screen as I was too busy focusing on my buttons. You mainly just have to hit the buttons lit up and switch the appropriate switches as indicated. It’s very easy to read (likely due to the range of ages), but it’s also easy to get caught up in the screen or forget exactly where a button is if you’re not looking at it. And if you’re looking at the buttons, you’re missing what’s going on around you as you’re no longer looking out the window, but at your control panel.
I saw so little of the ride itself because I was so focused on doing well and not letting my crew down which I suppose our other Engineer didn’t care as much about. We had earned about 11,800 Credits, but due to damages, ended up losing over 3,000 in repairs. I actually hadn’t even known we would get them in the Datapad at the time of going on the ride– I just am a perfectionist, but this made me even more disappointed we failed. Especially considering how well we did.
And does this encourage people to go on the ride again? Yes, absolutely, but heck, it’s encouraged by being one of the best ways to earn credits too and when you have a full schedule or not a lot of time, while going on Smuggler’s Run over and over again for an entire day/week sounds fun, it’s not always plausible– not to mention the team situation again. And honestly, I wouldn’t even mind trying a “failure” run where I just… don’t do anything the entire time, but I’d want to actually do a perfect run first. Since the ride varies based off when you “fail” or succeed, I really want to see both paths definitely, but it feels like it’ll be a while before doing either.
Smuggler’s Run was actually one of the last things we found time to do because of a very busy schedule and just trying to find a good time where the line wasn’t too crazy. There is no fast pass for it (and I’m not sure if there is one planned) and to be honest, as it currently stands, I would assume that would take me away from my crate checking and everything involved in the Datapad job so I’m not sure I’d get a fast pass even if I could.
As for the ride just… on its own merits, it was fun and reminded me of essentially a smaller party version of Star Tours– it moves very similar, but obviously, it’s much more interactive.
I had hoped to go on the ride again, if only for another chance at scanning things and a perfect score, but we just didn’t manage to make it back unfortunately. I’m still bummed about it.
Moving onto things I did BESIDES the Datapad minigame, for one, my husband and I both made Droids! Mine is this cute BB Unit who I still have yet to think of a name of. We even got the bag for it too: I also got a personality chip for it and some stickers so I hope to style it up a bit at some point (mostly using the pink to cover up the black maybe…). My husband made an R6-Unit: I kind of wish more could’ve mixed and matched, but I’m not really surprised they couldn’t. I hope we’ll see more ways to customize our droid in the future.
We also stopped by Savi’s Workshop for some very important business.
I had gone the Elemental Nature route which also gave me this lovely pin: There were some pieces I liked from the Protection & Defense type, but in the end, Elemental Nature just kind of fit me more. Though, I wish they still kept the original coloring over the silver for the whale bone:
We also made sure to stop by the markets and I picked up these lovely handmade plushies:
This adorable Mouse Droid (plus a lovely droid group photo): (The top opens and the wheels move so it’s fun to just… move it about and have it old some things 🙂 Plus the lanyard to wear it around your next)
And a Holocron, currently with the purple crystal I had gotten with my lightsaber: 🙂 I also got white and green Kyber crystals. I sure hope they add pink ones.
As for food, I already spoke about the Cantina earlier, but we did our best to try everything at least once. Kat Saka’s Kettle was worth it for the Mouse Droid, but honestly, the popcorn just… wasn’t that great. It was kind of chewy in an almost stale-like way and I don’t know if we just got a bad batch or what, but it just… was not enjoyable.
We, of course, had to try the Blue Milk and Green Milk over at the Milk Stand. Both were enjoyable, but my husband and I both preferred the Blue Milk. I think my only complaint is I would’ve loved a less “smoothie-like” version– just actual milk or even a milkshake. Something more creamy, essentially. We wanted to get the special Milk container, but due to lack of time, we didn’t get the chance.
For breakfast, we had Ronto Roasters and got the Ronto Morning Wrap and Ronto Wrap (which seemed to be a combination of it and the Endorian Chicken Wrap at the time we went, but now seem to be more different things). Despite generally not being much of an egg person, I loved the Ronto Morning Wrap. It was perfect and the Grilled Pork Sausage was amazing. I’d absolutely get it again.
We got Docking Bay 7 Food for lunch (though, my mother had the breakfast and said it was great so I definitely want to try the Bright Suns Breakfast Platter next time we go). I had gotten the Endorian Tip Yip with mashed potatoes while my husband got the Felucian Garden Spread. I really enjoyed mine, though, if I picked, I’d say I liked my Ronto Morning Wrap more. While my husband liked his and I enjoyed my taste of it, it was a lot spicier than expected which took away from the flavor.
To go with our lunch, we also tried the [non-alcoholic] drinks and desserts! The drinks seemed to have been changed a bit since we last went, but both we had were great. As for the desserts, I got the Batuu-bon and my husband got the Oi-Oi Puff. We shared a bit though and both were really great. My husband can’t decide which he liked more, but I preferred my Batuu-bon.
Next time we go, I’d love to try the Batuuan Roast and/or the Smoked Kaadu Ribs. I’ve heard the macaroni and cheese is good too.
And of course, we’re not here to just talk about what we did, I have some pictures of the sights too 🙂 #gallery-0-37 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-37 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-37 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-37 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The entire area has such high rocks and is set up in such a way that it genuinely does feel like its own planet/city. Even if it’s a bit awkward walking through Toy Story Land to get to it. And all kinds of familiar and new characters will just be walking around. And who knows, maybe you’ll run into a cool spy and have cool spy conversations like the person writing this did 😛
Moving on to the rest of Disney, it was honestly a bit of a mixed trip. In a way, it was less crowded than we expected despite some areas still being rather packed and I ended up being sick two days before we left and the day of. We normally go around this time for the cooler weather, but this year, it was about 90 the entire time, which sure I guess is to be expected when on a planet with three suns and also in Florida but usually it’s closer to 70-80 or so when we go. In the end, I quickly got hit with heat stroke which just kind of murdered me ahead of time for our trip. I’m not going to go into my health issues, but for several reasons, I do very very poorly with heat and with all the construction and things being moved back for the new gondolas, I was not doing well.
Because of that, a lot of our plans got cut a bit. We did our usual Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian where we had been hoping to stay before things ended up not working out: #gallery-0-38 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-38 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-38 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-38 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
I had gotten Zanzibar Chai as my tea and absolutely loved it. While I love all the courses, I will admit the scones and sandwiches are my favorite courses. We had planned to do the tea tasting they now have in Epcot at the England Pavilion, but due to me getting sick that day, we ended up having to cancel. I’m really hoping we’ll be able to go next year.
Due to the issues with our hotel stay, what we ended up doing was staying in a Polynesian Bungalow for a night (which was really nice, honestly): #gallery-0-39 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-39 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-39 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-39 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The view was so pretty and we even got our own little private pool. While the Polynesian isn’t necessarily my favorite hotel, it at least has nice room service and I still love passing this every time we enter the hotel: #gallery-0-40 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-40 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-40 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-40 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
And then switching to a room at Saratoga Springs for the rest of our stay (in which I finally got to accomplish my dream of a two floor hotel room like in Home Alone 2…): Despite the size of it, the beds were not as comfy unfortunately and the pillows were… incredibly flat 😦 Which made sleeping a bit difficult. The room also wasn’t particularly close to a bus stop which meant a decent trek in the morning (and the room was one of the last due to the size) to not be late and an exhausting trek back after already walking all through the park.
While we hoped to do our usual “taste” around the world part of the Food Festival, due to lack of time, it just… did not fully work out. Because of this, we tried to focus on just our absolute favorites (and even then, still tried to narrow it down) for things we’ve had before and prioritized new things we hadn’t tried. I didn’t get many pictures because, again, time was just hard and honestly, I never want to plan a trip with so much overlapping again, but we did get a few pictures of some desserts plus the lovely Boba Milk Tea from China. #gallery-0-41 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-41 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-41 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-41 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Lion King Panna Cotta
Cheesecake Sampler
The Cheese Crawl Victory Cheesecake
Panna Cotta isn’t usually my thing, but that one was pretty interesting. I liked the left-most cheesecake of the sampler best. And of course I had to do the cheese crawl– the cheesecake for finishing was really good too. And China always has an amazing Bubble Tea lately to be honest.
The only things I didn’t get to try were the Cheese Plate and Popcorn at the new Apple Orchard booth Someone ordered the last just before me and I’m still pretty bummed about it. It was our last day so not much I could do about it.
On the bright side, we FINALLY got to do one of the “special events” at the Food Festival. Because my husband and I don’t drink alcohol, it’s really hard to justify the prices of most of the events as alcohol is always included, but the Parisian Breakfast was one of the more reasonably priced events despite also giving alcohol. To be honest, I was worried we would miss it– there was a hurricane passing through and it was pouring like crazy. We ended up being completely soaked (and being super wet on the freezing cold bus was not fun) and then essentially had to book it from the entrance to Epcot all the way to the World Showcase and to Paris. Maybe if I was less out of breath and stressed out I could’ve tried explaining in French, but thankfully I eventually managed to get out that we had reservations (There has been people who had tried to come in for food and to be out of the rain who had not) and thankfully, they still sat us despite being about an hour late.
They were so nice and it was really good. Also lots of cheese which is always great. I absolutely loved the Hot Chocolate especially– I prefer my hot chocolate more light and creamy than really rich so this was literally perfect and I wish I had the recipe for it. I drank so many cups. And while part of it was so we wouldn’t get pneumonia, it was also because it was genuinely super tasty. #gallery-0-42 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-42 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-42 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-42 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
One other new thing we finally got to do was check out the Na’vi River Journey ride and Pandora in general over at Animal Kingdom. We rarely go to Animal Kingdom as it doesn’t have a lot of indoor areas and I kind of need that with my heat issues, but a lot has been added since we’d last been there. I had managed to get fast passes for the ride as I kept hearing good things about it and I have to admit, while the land wasn’t as amazing as Batuu, Pandora was still pretty cool: #gallery-0-43 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-43 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-43 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-43 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Unfortunately, I can’t really say the same for the ride. It was pretty and sure, the Animatronic was impressive and very fluid, but it was just very… boring. Even most dark boat rides I’ve been on, there’s usually at least some… speeding up or amusing things to look at or some nice song or even a tiny drop, but this was literally just meandering around in a river in the dark and seeing some of the sights which, like I said, isn’t necessarily bad– I don’t regret going on it, but I don’t understand the hype and I would never go out of my way to do it again (and honestly, I’m not sure I would do it again even if I didn’t have to go out of my way).
On the bright side, we ended up eating at really lovely place– Tiffins. I loved the decor of it and while it was expensive, all the food was amazing. The drinks were really creative too. And that place alone may finally get my family to give Animal Kingdom another shot. And who doesn’t like seeing cute animals? #gallery-0-44 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-44 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-44 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-44 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
We also finally tried out the Frozen Ride which wasn’t too bad, but I do miss the old Norway boat ride. I really liked how the area for the line was decorated though.
In the end, we only went on about four rides total– besides the three mentioned above, we also went on Test Track again with our friend as it was his first time in Disney. I hope Disney will one day add an option to like… 3D-Print these over just getting it on a card. #gallery-0-45 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-45 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-45 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-45 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Regardless, we at least got a lot of the big important things done. I just really hope our next trip goes much smoother. And with that, I just have one last thing to say: Til the Spires 😛
Incoming Transmission from Batuu (and the World of Disney) As tempting as it was to try and write this slightly in character, I've been sick these last several days so I'll try and lessen it, especially for those of you who read this blog and aren't particularly into Star Wars (That said, if anyone is here from…

Yugioh S3 Ep8: Noah Gets off His Ass, Immediately Sits Back Down
I am so thankful for short episodes.
Mostly short because it was mostly a game and we don’t actually go over the games here.
So to summarize that entire game, overall, Johnson, the evil lawyer, was cheating.
Shocking.
And then, for another surprise.
Maybe Yugi just makes these with one of those little die-casting machines you make little tabletop characters with. I can see his parents trying to get him into crafts to try and calm down his absurd nervous energy. Maybe he gives these to people he’s cursed to keep track of them. Still a little weird that everyone’s cool with having Yugi’s third eye on their coinage.
Like does Seto have this in his pocket? I assume he does too, right?
Speaking of, on the other side of the forest, Mokuba and Seto went into another door and I think at this point Noah just kind of ran out of ideas and wanted them to get some exercise so he sent them to Dune.
Noah has still not talked directly with Seto Kaiba. So, now, instead of being lost in a forest they are lost in a desert. That has a beach on it. Maybe it’s...just a beach. Still feels super desert, though. Deserts can have beaches, right?
(more under the cut)
And so Noah kind of rolls his eyes after watching this duel for about 15 minutes and then shows that he can stand on those two feet and thus dashing any ideas I may have had that he’s paralyzed and can only float around on the weird sci fi chair.
And then Noah left this old ass clunky TV just stranded in the desert.
Man, remember when TV’s were the worst?
Like Noah wasn’t really planning on coming down here to deal with this duel situation, so does he know that Seto can see him? Or, did he forget that he left his streaming software on when he went to deal with Yugi and friends?
I love how the show forgot it’s own timeline within the same season. I got to hand it to this series in how much it just *doesn’t give a damn* about the timeline at all. Like it has a video game spinoff where Yugi is King Henry 7th fighting in the war of roses and they’re like...”That works perfectly. And can we have a spinoff where they’re just on motorcycles and throwing cards? That’ll make sense, too”
Like it’s sort of refreshing in this age of people raging about every minor detail in Marvel or DC or Star Wars in how much these guys messed up the Kaiba timeline but they don’t even care. They’re over there sipping tea with their middle finger to the sunset just like, “come at me bro, and I’ll just make another insane spinoff just to spite you all. Go ahead, do it.”
Remember also that Kaiba’s past self is also married to a paper card that Kaiba now uses so Kaiba has not only been orphaned twice but is also a widow. And he’s only 16.
Apparently in the Japanese version, he was like 8 when he got adopted, I dunno why they changed that, they just did, and no one cares. Which is fine. It’s a kid’s show. If we treated more shows like that and just relaxed and let the creator go for it and tell us their crazy tale, we’d probably enjoy the content more.
I mean...every single property ever written is going to have timeline problems, eventually. And then there’s Yugioh, who have made so many timeline sins at this point that Season Zero might actually still be canon. Like, that’s what’s kind of neat when you have such a flexible timeline. If we were to say the timeline is perfect, then basically none of Season Zero happened. But, because they never outright say and because they contradict themselves so often, then sure, believe whatever you want. No one can fight you. Yugi once made a guy think he was watch parts and then set another guy on fire with Russian whisky. That can still be canon if we wanted to.
Either way, if Gozoboro got the Hell out of Dodge 5 years ago and abandoned his kids, that means that the Big 5 and Seto have been in charge of this company since Kaiba was 11. As someone who watches 11 yos as a part time I would LOVE to see any of them try and do sales taxes. On guns. Seto Kaiba has been selling mostly guns since the time he was 11. No wonder he used to dye his hair lime green. It probably went gray from stress at age 12.
But then once I assume this duel is thankfully over and Noah is about to do everyone a favor and delete Johnson, Joey decides to be an idiot.
And then he teleports away in a very pretty set of twinkle lights.
It was nice of our villain to try and save everyone’s asses. Yugioh villains are unique in that they are constantly saving our heroes better than the heroes save themselves. In this case, Joey was so bad at saving himself that he immediately jumped back into the same pit Noah dragged him out of.
And Seto and Mokuba just have nothing to say about that, apparently. No one seems to think that this was the weirdest exchange just now.
Like they really did just sit here in this desert with one TV and watched Joey Wheeler play a game although they supposedly don’t like Joey at all.
Yeah, he just screams out this weird line and then adds an “if it weren’t for you meddling kids” type of finisher and then blows up into thousands of pieces.
Got one last lawyer jab in there, I see Yugioh. You have...so much disdain for lawyers. Which is very funny since the only DMCA I’ve ever received was over Yugioh fanart. And guys, I’m at the point of internet obscurity when it comes to art, where that happened, and I was like “FINALLY! I’m actually getting recognition for my hard work from like...a real company! WOW!”
Sorry I had to delete a 60 K word rant about internet marketing and this is my blog to escape that hell beast.
So after Joey does his 180 and remembers that he has a sister, he tosses Yugi in the air a little bit and then just books it down the hallway.
With the way he was acting you’d think he’d just carry Yugi under his arm like a football until Serenity is found, but instead, Yugi and his very short legs will follow behind like 30 steps.
Mmmmm look at that early 00′s DeviantArt grunge. Nice. I kinda miss when we were digging through this artist’s old and crusty pen supply cabinet but maybe they will make a return.
Off they go, to save Joey’s sister again. And also Duke Devlin.
OMG is this my moment that Duke Devlin will finally die OMG is it happening? Please, show please give Duke Devlin something to do.
Anyways, if you just got here and want to start from the beginning, here’s a link to follow from Ep 1 S1

i was scrolling back through the blog and remembered i caught up on resistance while on my break but never actually posted thoughts on it (because on break), so here we are. non exhaustive as i’m working from memory
synara san rare elusive convincing redemption arc. there’s still a while yet to go but she’s getting there and you can see the seeds of it right from the beginning. i don’t know if filoni learned how to write one since the muttonchop whitewash or if he’s not having as much influence on resistance but either way appo approves
i really don’t know how i feel about a woc stanning the first order. like there are. 0 white people in resistance (other than hux and phasma, who are cameos for the most part. i guess it’s also possible there are other white FO personnel who are fully armoured but we don’t know this for sure, and the few we do see are all poc) (and okay i guess there’s the ex-imperial ace... and the very nordic one, though she reads as arkanian to me)
...actually i don’t know how i feel about the neo nzi-coded org being mostly poc. like on the one hand it’s really refreshing to see a star war thing where white people are not front and centre. but yeah
one thing i did love though was. holy shit. the FO interrogator is. so fucking good at her job i was swooning every time she was on screen. she’s manipulative and cunning and charming and utterly ruthless and incredibly dangerous and absolutely a villain and i love
i kind of feel like tam’s “my grandad worked in an imperial factory because we needed to eat, does that make him evil?” got. swept under the rug far too quickly. because it’s. exctly the sort of moral quandry people face. needing to eat, needing to provide for family, versus capitulating to a violent, evil regime. this isn’t cartoonishly unreal, it’s... a very real, very human dilemma that has no easy answer.
i really appreciated the show being. completely unabashed in presenting the FO as evil. kale as evil. hux as evil. i don’t interact with st fandom if i can avoid it but there’s so much dreck i see anyway about how they’re misunderstood woobies etc etc and it’s just. nop, they’re evil, no bones about it.
that said i kind of wish that tam had woken up to that while on the colossus. like she saw the same things everyone else did, but?? i guess that’s. not unrealistic. boiling frog analogy and all. she’s a decent person and i’m warily hopeful that she’ll wake up and smell the bullshit before it’s too late.
it didn’t really feel like the show had any filler? like there was purely stuff there to just take up time? everything moved the plot forward, whether it was growing relationships between characters, revealing things about pasts, setting up plot threads to be revisited.
the destruction of hosnian prime felt very... on the nose, but that’s the star war for you. i’ll be honest, i was expecting some twist where kaz’s father was in the FO’s pocket or something. i guess that’s not still out of the question, but i’m fine (narratively) with it being setting up tragedy rather than setting up betrayal (not least because he’s already got that to deal with, with tam)
the whole thing with the. hyperdrive in the last episode could be. considered an asspull, i guess, but it’s decidedly less of one than, say, surprise space whales. it was kind of inevitable that they’re not going to meet up with the resistance right away anyway, but... yeah
refreshing complete and total lack of force users front and centre!! yes, there’s the kids who escaped kale’s massacre, but they’re. side characters, and aren’t Jedi(tm)/Sith(tm). nobody there faces off against Jedi(tm)/Sith(tm). just. regular people doing regular things. thank you disney.
anyway looking forward to season two!!
also synara/tam is my otp fight me

iKonic Fairy Tales: Aladdin - Part 2
A modern fairy tale series in collaboration with @cramelot - stay tuned next week for the next story featuring a new member! ✨
Genre: Office!AU
Pairing: Hanbin x You
By Admin B
🧞 Part 1, 2, 3, 4
“Oh-ho-ho-ho-ho,” One chuckled as he stepped back from Hanbin, a more than satisfied smirk pulling at his lips. “You. Look. Incredible. If I do say so myself.”
When he stepped away from in front of the mirror, Hanbin almost jumped when he saw himself.
Hanbin’s typical wardrobe consisted of slightly worn-out jeans, lots of button-down shirts, sweatshirts, t-shirts... y’know. The kind of clothes he could actually afford.
But One had lent him an almost brand new, very well-fitted suit. A very shiny watch. And he’d combed his hair away from his forehead, a look he’d never actually tried before.
And... he had to admit.
He looked good.
You knew this whole party was for your benefit, but you still didn’t feel bad for hanging around the refreshments.
Because you were absolutely certain you would not meet your future spouse here tonight.
You honestly weren’t sure why your father thought you would because... well, he knew you.
He knew how independent and ambitious and career-focused you were. He knew being in a relationship was not quite the last thing on your list of priorities, but it was pretty far down there.
You gazed around the room as you popped another shrimp dipped in cocktail sauce into your mouth (you knew you wouldn’t be kissing anyone tonight, so what was the point in trying to keep your breath fresh?), your eyes searching for someone - anyone - you could talk to.
But... you knew nobody there.
Probably because you spent most of your time working instead of actually having a social life.
Just as you were reaching for another shrimp, though, you caught sight of...
Again, you didn’t know who he was because you didn’t know who anybody was, but...
Well, let’s just say you were intrigued enough to at least find out his name.
He was wearing a very well-fitted suit, and his dark hair was combed back, away from his forehead just the way you liked. (Yes, you didn’t have much of a social life, but you still knew how you liked a guy to style his hair, okay?) He looked somewhat nervous, but he also somehow looked confident and intelligent and sophisticated.
Before you could second guess yourself, you began to make your way over to him.
When you were about halfway to where he was standing, his eyes shifted and locked on yours. He immediately looked nervous, so you slowed your pace. You tended to have a bit of an authoritative walk which could probably be seen as intimidating; the last thing you wanted to do right now was to intimidate him.
“Hi,” you greeted when you were close enough. You held out your hand, a soft, almost shy smile pulling at your lips. “I’m Y/N. I... don’t think I’ve seen you before.”
“H-hi,” he stammered, shaking your hand and gulping anxiously. “I’m... I’m Hanbin.”
“Hanbin,” you repeated. It felt nice to say. “Nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you, too,” he grinned.
And then you asked the typical question you asked anyone upon first meeting them: “What do you do?”
“I --” He paused for a few moments then continued on. “I’m... I founded an app. I’m the CEO -- or... whatever.”
“Oh, really?” you asked, intrigued. “Which one?”
“It’s, uh... it’s called Lamp.”
“Lamp,” you repeated, nodding slowly as you gazed at him in interest. “What’s the purpose?”
“It helps you determine if your house is running at peak efficiency, especially when it comes to the light bulbs you’re using,” he explained, seemingly becoming more comfortable. But you always did when you talked about your work, too.
“Oh, wow,” you gasped. “That’s really cool. I’m all about efficiency and being kind to the environment.”
“Well, of course,” he chuckled. “You work for AgriBar, the leader of eco-friendly alcohol.”
You paused, biting your lip to hold back a huge, goofy smile. “So... you know who I am.”
Hanbin’s eyes widened slightly, and his mouth opened and closed like a fish’s. “I -- I mean, I --”
“Do you like wine?”
“W--wine?” he stuttered.
“There’s this amazing wine we source. It’s made from a local vineyard about five miles away, grapes all organically grown... Do you want to try some?”
“I, um... I probably shouldn’t,” he chuckled awkwardly. “I drove here, so I -- I shouldn’t.”
Your eyebrows raised slightly, and you couldn’t help but be impressed. A man who respected the law and the safety of himself and others.
You instantly wanted to know more about him.
“So, would you like to... talk? Somewhere?” you asked a bit shyly.
Despite the surprised expression on his handsome face, Hanbin immediately answered, “Yeah. Yes. I would love to.”
It took you less than half an hour to decide you liked Hanbin.
Maybe not like that yet, but... you were definitely attracted to him. And very interested.
But besides his outward charm, he was very down-to-earth, extremely intelligent, and incredibly complex. He made you laugh, he made you think, he made you want to keep on talking to him.
When the party began to get too crowded and loud and stuffy, you suggested going for a walk outside. Hanbin agreed immediately, and your heart pounded as the two of you stepped through the doors.
You ended up where all the cars were parked, and you randomly remembered Hanbin saying he drove here tonight.
“Which one’s yours?” you asked, gazing out over the sea of Lexuses and BMWs and Audis and Teslas.
“Oh, umm... Th--that one,” he answered as he pointed to a jet black Nissan Leaf. “It’s nothing fancy, but Lamp is pretty small right now. And it’s electric, so easier on the Earth and my wallet.”
“Very commendable,” you grinned, nudging him a little with your shoulder. “I’ve actually never been in an electric car before. I usually take the bus or walk to work since I live pretty close by.”
“Really?” Hanbin asked, obviously surprised.
“Yes,” you chuckled. “I may be an ‘heiress’ but I’m not a spoiled, rich kid.”
“I -- I never said --”
“But you probably thought it.”
“...Actually, I was never really sure what to think about you. Besides the fact you’re --” He suddenly cut himself off, so of course you were dying to know what he’d been about to say.
“Besides the fact I’m what?” you asked with a smirk.
“Do you wanna go for a ride?”
Well, if his intention was to distract you, it worked. Tremendously.
“Ooh,” you gasped. “Yes, please!”
He fished his keys out of his pocket and led you over to his car, opening the passenger door for you once you got there.
“Do you get around the city much?” he asked after he took his spot in the driver’s seat.
“Honestly? ...No,” you blushed. “I’m too busy working, I’ll admit.”
“Good,” Hanbin grinned. “There’s a spot I’d like to show you. I go there when I want to clear my head or when I just want some peace and quiet.”
Aha. So he wanted some peace and quiet with you? That was a good sign.
“I would love to go there,” you said softly. You were tempted to reach over and take his hand, but 1) it was most likely too soon to make that move, and 2) he just put both his hands on the wheel as he began driving.
As Hanbin drove through the city, you had to admit you were thoroughly impressed with this car. You knew you sounded like a dork, but you couldn’t stop exclaiming about it.
Hanbin was blushing and constantly smiling and chuckling at your reaction, and that might have been a reason why you kept on going.
Because he was just so cute.
“Okay, where is this secret place of yours?” you asked after almost half an hour of driving.
“We’re almost there, I promise,” he assured you. “And I swear I’m not, like... driving you to some deserted spot to kill you.”
You were about to retort back with a teasing remark, but Hanbin spoke again before you could.
“Oh my god, that makes me sound like a creep. I am so sorry, I don’t know why I said that.”
“No, it’s fine,” you giggled. “You don’t seem like a creep. Trust me, I can spot one from a mile away. Especially guys who are only after me because I’m rich.”
But Hanbin was a CEO; even if he wasn’t as rich as you, he still wouldn’t be in need of more money. He was dressed nicely, and he drove a fairly nice car.
“Sometimes I just try to be funny and it comes out... dumb,” he chuckled.
“Hey, we all have our moments,” you assured him with a smirk.
“Okay, we’re here,” he announced, still looking a bit embarrassed. “Thank God.”
He stopped the car, and when you opened the door to get out, you saw he’d taken you up one of the small mountains along the border of the city. There was a scenic viewing area with benches, and Hanbin led you over to sit on one.
“Wow,” you breathed as you took in the lights of the city and the darkness of the sky sprinkled with twinkling stars. “This is... gorgeous. I can see why you’d want to come here to clear your head.”
You were both silent for a few moments, your eyes drinking in the peaceful view... but then Hanbin shifted, turning slightly toward you.
“Can I be honest?” he murmured, his voice just barely above a whisper.
“Of course,” you answered immediately. “I value honesty more than anything else.”
He paused, and you turned to look at him, your brow furrowed softly. He looked a bit nervous, so you wondered if he felt the same attraction as you did.
“I, um... Earlier. When I said I wasn’t sure what to think about you besides the fact you’re... What I was going to say was, ‘besides the fact you’re beautiful.’”
Your heart stopped momentarily, and you weren’t sure what to say in response...
So instead of saying anything you simply leaned in and - despite your shrimp breath - you kissed him.

When I woke up the next day, Sam and Dean were already gone. It happened like that for days, even a week. I still didn’t leave the bunker, too afraid to go out and face the real world. The scarily real world, filled with supernatural beings. After a week in the bunker, the nightmares about them became less frequent. I started getting used to being there, and living with two hunters and an angel. And well, Jack, of course.
The good part of being in the bunker was that I had a lot of things I could entertain myself with: watching movies with Jack, listening to some music that Dean recommended, reading some books that Sam told me about, talk with Castiel about angels and other creatures… I would never get bored. The bad part was that I started feeling a little weird. There was so much I could do inside there without feeling locked.
But after a week, I was starting to get along with Jack. We were in his room, continuing watching Star Wars and finishing our movie marathon. According to him, we had now watched the original trilogy as well as the prequels. They were entertaining, and especially more with Jack’s comments and excited observations.
“So?” Jack turned to me with a smile as the credits rolled. “Did you like it?”
I sat up in the bed next to him, leaning my back against the headboard.
“Yeah!” I grinned, endeared by how he excited and passionate he was about them still. “I actually enjoyed them a lot”
“What about the characters?”
“I think Leia is pretty badass!”
“She’s great! I like Anakin”
“Really?” I lifted an eyebrow, surprised by his answer.
“You don’t like him?” Jack frowned, so I hurried to explain myself.
“It’s not that, he’s a cool character. He’s just a bit whiny” I grinned, but he didn’t.
“But he has a tragic story”
“Yeah, still… he did bad things…”
“Maybe he didn’t have a choice”
“Of course he had! There’s always a choice, and he chose evil…”
“He was… trying to save someone he loved”
“Not like that! He could have found some other way”
“He wasn’t bad…” Jack must really like Anakin, because he seemed frustrated and almost sad that I didn’t agree with him.
“I didn’t say that! Even at the end, he was still good… But he could have done things differently” I patted Jack’s arm to reinforce my words. “Besides, his friends tried to help him and he wouldn’t let them”
“I guess you’re right” He shrugged, even if he averted his eyes.
“Of course! I’m always right” Seeing as he still didn’t smile, I bumped my shoulder into his, finally making him look at me. “Sorry if I upset you, I know you like him and I still respect your opinion…”
“No, it’s alright” Jack nodded solemnly. “You have your opinion too”
“Hey, people make mistakes, obviously” I showed him a little smile. “But Anakin did the right thing at the end, it just took him some time”
“So you still like him?” It was kind of adorable that he cared so much about the movies and its characters, there was actually a spark of hope in his blue eyes as he stared at me.
“Of course! He just needs to whine a little less still” I rolled my eyes, still playfully.
“Yeah, that’s true…” I finally got him to smile a little.
“See? Always right” I nudged him in the ribs, still grinning, and Jack chuckled.
I was about to stand up when the door suddenly opened to reveal Castiel. He must have just arrived, or… teleported, because we hadn’t heard him. He smiled at the sight of us sitting together in the bed and a laptop between us.
“Cas, hey!” I paused as I wondered if the nickname would bother him. “Can I call you Cas, is that okay?”
“Of course” Castiel smiled. “Sam and Dean already do”
“Any news on them?” I said, briefly turning to look behind me when I heard Jack standing up from the bed and approaching us. “Are they okay?”
“I haven’t heard from them, but I’m sure they’re okay”
“But they’re… hunting, right?”
“Yes”
“Then how do you know?!”
“They have been doing this for a long time, Brooke, they will be fine”
Castiel began walking, so we both followed him as he headed for the hall.
“I would still like to talk to them” I mumbled, unable to conceal my anxiety. “Just to make sure”
“I can call them if you’d like” Castiel pulled out a cellphone from one of his trench coat pockets.
“Yes, please!” I gently held on to his arm. “It would make me feel so much better!”
While Castiel nodded and began dialing their number, Jack softly put a hand atop my shoulder. He didn’t say anything, but it was enough to slightly ease my anxiety.
“I’m calling” Castiel said, holding his phone on his hand as the call rang on the speaker.
“Hey, Cas, is everything okay?” Some came Sam’s deep voice.
“Sam” The angel replied gravely. “I’m sorry to bother you-“
“Hi, Sam!” I suddenly felt very self-conscious, fearing that I came out as childish or even worse, that I was actually bothering them during a bad moment. “Sorry, it was my fault”
“Brooke” Sam cleared his throat, maybe gesturing to his brother. “What’s up?”
“I just… wanted to make sure you guys were okay, I mean… Gosh, what you do…”
“That’s really sweet” He chuckled. “But we’re good, don’t worry about us”
“You sure? I mean-“ I was about to argue that their job was dangerous, but I was interrupted.
“Hey, kid” Suddenly came Dean’s voice. “You sure that’s all?”
“Um…” I quickly looked at Jack and Castiel, who were observing me, but then averted my eyes. “Guess I wasn’t too subtle, huh?”
Truth was, it wasn’t only about their wellbeing. Of course, I cared about them, I had grown fond of them quickly. And not just because they saved my freaking life, but because they were such good people, they were actual heroes! But… there was something else, like a void in my chest that filled when they were back.
“What’s wrong? Spit it out” The older Winchester urged me.
I remained silent, feeling how my friends’ glances pierced me while I faked an interest in my ripped jeans, fiddling with a little hole in the knee.
“You’re still scared” Sam said instead, reading my mind.
“C’mon, kid!” Dean complained, his voice firm and stern. “That bunker is warded against all sorts of supernatural crap”
“Believe me, Brooke, you’re as safe as you can be in there” Sam added, chuckling again. I felt uncomfortable and stupid seeing as Castiel and Jack were still there. “Cas can protect you better than we could ever do, and so can Jack”
I finally looked up, locking eyes with Castiel in shame. He was frowning, but he didn’t look upset and when I glanced at Jack I realized he didn’t either.
“I-I know! I’m sorry” I nibbled on my bottom lip. “I… It’s silly, I just… I trust Cas and Jack, of course! It’s just… Sorry to bother you guys, I’m stupid…”
“Yeah, you are” Dean said to my surprise. “But we still love you”
“Shut up” I chuckled, relieved to see that they were still so understanding.
“We gotta go now, okay?”
“Wait! Will you be okay?”
“Sure! We got this”
“And we got each other’s backs”
“Okay… Bye!”
Jack and Castiel wouldn’t stop looking at me, almost with the same exact expression, as the call ended.
“I’m sorry…” I sighed, feeling like I somehow wasn’t completely myself still. I felt weird and shaky and clingy even after a week. “I do trust you guys, it’s just that they…”
“I understand” Castiel interrupted me, his voice calm and deep as usual. “Sam and Dean saved your life, you feel a special bond with them. You feel safer when they’re around”
“Y-Yeah” I bashfully put my hair behind my ear. “You actually put it into words, I couldn’t have said it better myself”
“You don’t have to be scared” I realized Jack’s hand was still in my shoulder. “You’re safe here, and we will protect you”
“Thank you…” I sighed, leaning on the table. “I just feel… A little out of it still”
“You look a little pale” Castiel gently held me by the arm, noticing I was wobbly and weak before I could even do so myself. “Are you feeling alright?”
Truth was, I felt a bit sick. I thought I had been improving during those days in the bunker, but I had just been trying to tell myself that. I kept distracting myself with books and movies and music when I should have been trying to confront my fears. But watching Star Wars with Jack wasn’t helping with my nightmares or insomnia, no matter how nice it was.
I shook my head in response, realizing how tired I was even if I had tried to hide it.
“I haven’t seen her eat much lately” Jack gravely said behind Castiel.
“Maybe we should all go outside” Castiel looked at Jack. “All of us”
When the angel put a hand on my shoulder now, I jolted up.
“Wow, wait, Cas! I agree, but just… don’t teleport me, please? I feel queasy enough already…”
“Yes” Castiel laughed a little. “It would be better if we walked”
Castiel seemed very unimpressed as we walked the streets, but Jack and I were thrilled to be outside. The crowds of people, the soft breeze, the warm sun as well as the natural light, even the annoying sound of cars honking and speeding by was refreshing and welcomed! We both had been locked in there only for a week, but we couldn’t erase seldom smiles off our faces. It also helped to see the world was still the same, that life continued.
“How about here?” The angel stopped before a fast food restaurant and took out his wallet –hilarious! Who would have thought an angel needed one –and counted his money to make sure he had enough.
“Great!” Jack shrugged, and with a smile he opened the door, holding it open for me and Cas.
I gladly followed as he went to one of the tables and sat down by him, not even needing to take a look at the menu because I already knew what I wanted: burger, French fries, and soda. I’m a simple girl.
“Castiel” I called him just as he sat down, earning an attentive look from him. “How come you two are in the bunker as well?”
“I don’t understand” He frowned as he always did.
“I mean… I get why Sam and Dean don’t take me on hunts, but you and Jack?” I looked from him to the boy and back to the angel. “What they’re doing is important, they’re making the world a better place so… why don’t they let you help?”
With the corner of my eye, I noticed how Jack leaned forward and put his hands on the table, interested in Castiel’s response as well.
“They prefer we keep you company” He dedicated me a serene smile and a nod.
“That’s silly! I can be alone in the bunker, I wouldn’t mind” I clicked my tongue, feeling like I wasn’t telling the whole truth. “Don’t get me wrong, I love having you guys there! But heck, I would be willing to sacrifice my comfort if I knew you could be out there kicking ass instead of wasting your time with me!!”
“I enjoy spending my time with you…” Jack mumbled, so I smiled at him in appreciation.
“You are far more important thank you know, Brooke” Castiel kindly replied.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” I raised an eyebrow and stared at him.
Castiel frowned, taking a moment. He opened his mouth to reply, but just then, they came to take our order.
“Hello! What can I get you?” A friendly looking short-haired ginger stood by our table, notepad in hand.
“Um, I’ll have… A burger with everything on it, some fries and a Coke” I said, smiling at her.
“I…” Jack spoke up after me. “I’ll have the same”
She nodded and wrote it down, only to look at Castiel after.
“Uh, nothing for me, thank you” With that, she walked away, leaving us in silence.
I stared at Castiel, not wanting to be rude, but really wanting to know what he was about to say before we were interrupted.
“We just want to protect you” He realized what I was thinking and carried on.
I watched him carefully, trying to figure out what he meant. Maybe he was just trying to tell me that I mattered, and of course I did! Everyone mattered, every person was worth saving. But it mattered more to save more people instead of worrying about someone that, although scared, was already safe.
“Fine, mom” I jokingly rolled my eyes in the end, which caused them two to laugh a little. “You don’t eat then?”
He seemed to appreciate the change of subject, because his stiff shoulders relaxed.
“No, food tastes like molecules” I laughed a little, but Castiel seemed serious.
“Oh…?” Another thing I knew about angels, I guess. “Well, that… sucks”
I absently looked out the window while we waited for our order to arrive. I felt restless when I realized there was a convenience store crossing the street.
I had almost forgotten, being so comfortable with Jack and Cas, but… I had a life before any of this happened, and some things I left behind. Being an orphan and a workaholic I didn’t have many people, but I did have a job and a house that I didn’t really see myself going back to. At least not any time soon. After feeling so enveloped and welcomed by my new friends, it felt too anguishing and lonely to go back to that.
“Guys?” I spoke up, looking from one to the other. “Would you help me with something?”
“Yes” They both replied at the same time, more than ready to do so before even knowing what.
“I have to tend to some business, y’know…” I gulped, and averted my eyes upon growing aware of how much attention they were paying to me. “Talk to my old boss, go back to my house and get some things… I can’t keep watching Star Wars over and over, I should get some DVDs from my place or something”
They didn’t smile at my joke, because they realized how serious the matter was. It almost felt like giving up my old life entirely. I could have tried to forget about vampires and angels, but… it just wasn’t that easy. Besides, knowing about the supernatural, I felt like I could do something. Maybe even become a hunter like Sam and Dean. Just not quite yet. But I wanted to help, and to do that I had to stay.
“Are you sure?” Castiel understood what I implied, that I was basically committing to this new life.
“I am” There were butterflies in my stomach as I spoke, but I had made up my mind. “I’m ready”
“In that case, we’ll go with you” Castiel checked with Jack, who nodded in agreement. “As soon as you eat something”
“Thanks, Cas” I smiled at him, gently laying a hand on his arm. His hand fondly fell over mine. He was such an angel.
I was supposed to lead the way, but I felt quite lost even if I knew where to go. Jack and Cas followed me as I headed for the convenience store where Mr. Collins was probably still trying to figure out what happened to me and how to replace me during my absence.
It felt almost like fate that the bunker was in Lebanon, Kansas and I lived in Kansas City. We weren’t that far away from each other! And Cas’ teleportation skills easily transported us from one place to another, it was pretty great!
“Are you feeling better?” Castiel asked me, trying to gather my attention.
“What? Oh, yeah, sure” I briefly looked at him over my shoulder. “Much better, thank you”
“You do look better” Jack observed, giving me a little smile.
“Nothing some junk food and a little bit of fresh air can’t fix!”
“You seem absent” Castiel told me, gently taking me by the arm. “Nervous, scared even”
I finally looked at him, and it was heartwarming to see the gentle and concerned expression in his piercing blue eyes.
“Thanks, Cas” I smiled, genuinely. “But I’m okay, it’s no big deal”
“Are you sure, Brooke?”
“Yeah! Don’t worry about it”
Although reluctantly, he softly let go of me. I could feel their eyes on me as I kept walking, turning a corner and feeling my heart beating in my throat when I recognized the street I was in. I had walked around there every day for so long. Geez, and to think that barely a week ago I didn’t even know my current friends existed.
I kept walking, reminding myself of the comfort Castiel and Jack brought me as they walked behind me. Then I finally stopped before the convenience store where I used to work and took a deep breath. It looked… smaller. I paused before it, preparing myself to face the situation.
“Do you want us to come in with you?” Jack mumbled after a moment of silence.
“No. No…” Realizing I was deep in thought, I turned around and fondly patted his arm. “Thanks, Jack, but I need to do this myself”
“We understand” Castiel leaned forward slightly since they were still behind me. “We will be right here if you need anything”
I squeezed Castiel’s arm as well to thank him before I nodded with resolve and headed inside. Every step I took closer to the store made my heart thump against my chest with more intensity. I thought that it was stupid to get so nervous over talking to my old boss. But it wasn’t only facing him, it was what it implied too, to leave all that behind, to definitely say goodbye to my old life. Quitting my job meant the start of my new life.
I quickly peeked through the window, without stopping, before walking inside. Mr. Collins was actually behind the counter, occupying my old spot, which told me that he hadn’t found anyone to fill my position. He would probably be mad at me for my absence.
When he heard the welcoming bell, he looked up from his phone, bearing a deadpan expression.
“Welcome to…” And then he saw me. His entire face became a reddish tone. “You”
“M-Mr. Collins, I need to talk to you” I muttered, avoiding any eye contact.
“Yes, you do, you absolutely do!” He slammed his phone onto the counter, making me jump a bit. I watched my friends outside with the corner of my eye. Castiel took a step forward, but I subtly told him it was okay with just a glance. “Care to explain where have you been? It was your job to be here, not mine”
“I am truly sorry, believe me, and I would have called, but-“
“I can’t find someone to replace you, and meanwhile you’re probably out there being too lazy to come to work”
“Excuse me, but you have no idea what I… What kept me, sir”
“Then by all means, tell me!” He replied with his posh and arrogant voice.
I couldn’t be honest with him, I wouldn’t just tell him I was attacked by vampires and rescued by two hunters of the supernatural. So I said something else instead.
“With all due respect, Mr. Collins, I don’t think my personal life matters. What’s important is that the reason I was absent is because something… unexpected happened that-“
“I don’t care what happened to you, you should have been here!”
“Why didn’t you try to contact me?” I noticed how he rolled his eyes, and was hit with realization. “You… you lost my number, why wouldn’t you ask for it again?”
For someone as arrogant as him with such an ’important’ job, he was pretty irresponsible and unprofessional. He didn’t even care if something bad happened to me, just that I wasn’t there to watch his stupid store. He wasn’t even paying me that much! I…
“Gosh, you only care about yourself and your store” I thought aloud. “Honestly, Mr. Collins, you’re a terrible boss and an awful person”
He scowled at me and rolled his eyes once more.
“That’s saying a lot coming from an orphan” He shouted, letting me know I had hurt his ego.
“Thank you for proving my point” I frowned, trying not to show how hurt I was by his words. Again. “I quit”
Mr. Collins just glared at me, but I ignored him and exited the store. I heard the doorbell for what I thought would be the last time. Castiel immediately came to my side.
“Are you okay, Brooke? I noticed the situation was… tense”
“Are you kidding? I’m great!” I heaved a sigh, feeling energized. “It felt great to stand up to that jerk!”
“Where to next?”
“My place, if that’s okay, to pick up some things”
After tending to some more quick business, we got back to the bunker, with me now carrying a bag with the most important stuff I would need there: some clothes, my laptop and a few other personal possessions that I missed.
As soon as we walked into the bunker and down the stairs, I plopped down in the nearest chair and heaved a big sigh. I was exhausted after so much walking and, welp, the emotional rollercoaster too.
Jack and Cas sat down in the table with me. Jack showed me a soft yet somewhat awkward smile when I looked at him. They were both staring at me, trying to be subtle but they weren’t too inconspicuous as they also exchanged changes between them.
“What a day, huh?” I said to break the tension, to let them know I was still my usual cheerful self.
“How are you feeling, Brooke?” Castiel asked me gravely, frowning as he still stared.
“G-Good! I’m good, heh” I averted my gaze and traced the outlines of the countries on the map that the table displayed before us.
“Are you feeling better now?” Jack asked me too.
“Y-Yeah, I, uh… I kinda feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders” I then grabbed one of the rubber marks I threw at Cas when I first met him and began playing with it. “It was a bit tough and very emotional but… I feel lighter now”
All of that felt so trivial, my job, my house, my routine. It might take time, but in the bunker I got a chance of doing something different, something good. Something big. Helping Sam and Dean make the world a better place, even if step by step. They… inspired me to be brave.
“Is it temporary?” Castiel’s deep voice brought me back to reality. “I have the feeling that you want to leave your old life behind”
“I really don’t know, Cas” I looked into his blue eyes and found them to be comforting, almost familiar. Sometimes I almost forgot that he was a heavenly being despite his softness and humanity. “I… I just know that I want to do some good, and here with you guys I can”
Castiel showed me a fond smile, but didn’t say anything else, he just nodded.
“We’re glad to have you here” Jack mumbled, shrugging a bit. “Your company is-“
He then closed his eyes tight and winced, holding his head with both hands. I gasped and forgot my tiredness as I frantically stood up.
“Jack?!” Looking to Cas, I realized he seemed to be experiencing a similar sort of discomfort, they were both groaning in pain. "What's going on, are you okay?!”
Castiel breathed out in distress, and Jack did too even if louder, even in more discomfort.
“You’re freaking me out, guys!” I gulped, heavily leaning my hands on the table for support as I glanced from one to the other, just as they calmed down. “What the heck just happened?!”
Jack visibly gulped, widening his eyes as they settled over Castiel. The aforesaid seemed calmer, but he refused to meet with my glance. The silence made my violent heartbeat more obvious, and it was profoundly anguishing me.
“Please say something…” I begged, breathing heavily as the sound of my panting filled the silence.
“It was angel radio” Castiel finally explained, slowly locking eyes with me.
I opened my mouth to reply, but found that I was speechless.
“A-Angel radio?” I looked down to the table, feeling how the exhaustion washed over me again, and noticing my knuckles turning white from how tight I was gripping the table. “So that means there are more angels. I mean, of course they are, but uh... You communicate with them?”
“Not exactly” Cas replied, speaking slowly. “When they talk amongst them using their angelic powers, we can hear them”
We both stared at Jack, who was still silent, sitting stiffly in the chair.
“Uh… ’We’? So Jack’s an angel too?” For some reason, that wasn’t as shocking as realizing that Castiel was. “He’s… like you…”
“I-I’m a nephilim” He finally spoke up, even if his eyes were still wide open. “I’m part human”
“Wow” I awkwardly chuckled, slowly sitting back down. “That’s… um, interesting…”
“Brooke?”
“Are you alright?”
“I am! Don’t worry, guys, it’s… it’s cool”
I hadn’t noticed I had gotten back up, but I really needed to get away from there. After learning Castiel was an angel I thought I was okay with the supernatural. But Jack’s true nature hit me harder than I could anticipated. Maybe it was that I related to him, that I felt like we were equals and… turned out he was part angel.
“If you’ll excuse me” I cleared my throat, trying to ignore the fact that I had been idly standing there for longer than I wanted and that they still stared at me. “I think I’m gonna crash”
Hence, I walked back to my room, my head filled with questions and doubts as much as my heart was.
Time seemed to put things into perspective. Hours passed until it turned to night, and it was really late when I heard Sam and Dean returning to the bunker. By that point, the emotion of the day was really taking a toll on me and I was getting sleepy.
However, I felt almost at peace now. Sure, it was mind-blowing that Jack was an angel too or… well, a nephilim. But it changed nothing. Castiel was Castiel, he was my friend despite being an angel, and so was Jack. Nothing had changed, he was still the same nerdy soft boy that I watched Star Wars with. I just needed some time alone with my thoughts, and when I did, I realized all of this.
I was so deep into my thoughts that I got startled when someone softly knocked on the door.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me, Sam”
“Oh, come on in!”
Sam cautiously opened the door and peeked inside the room. I waved at him and he came in, closing the door behind him.
“I thought you would be sleeping by now” He looked a bit tired and disheveled, but otherwise okay, taking in consideration he had just returned from a hunt.
“Guess I have a lot on my mind” I shrugged, watching how he sat down at the edge of the bed with me.
“Yeah, how you holding up?”
“Can’t complain”
“Cas told us he took you guys outside” Before I could say anything, Sam stared at me gravely. “And he told us that you were sick”
“That was nothing, Sam” I carelessly waved my hand. “I just needed some fresh air”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, absolutely! I’m fine, I promise. You guys need to stop worrying about me”
“And what about Jack being a nephilim?”
“It’s not that bad…”
“Okay” He made a pause, brushing his hair away from his face, before he continued speaking. “Then let’s talk about that phone call”
“Geez, would you forget about it, please? It was embarrassing enough without you rubbing it in my face”
Sam grinned but calmly nodded, holding his hands up in surrender.
“I just wanted to check on you” He excused himself. “Seems like it was an eventful day”
“It was pretty crazy” I shrugged, even if bearing a smile. “But I suppose it’s like this for you everyday”
“Pretty much” Sam chuckled. “Crazy is kinda normal for us now”
“Yeah” I chuckled too, then kindly patting his arm. “Hey, so how’d the hunt go?”
“You know… the usual” He intertwined his hands over his lap.
“Sure, you know” I let out a soft guffaw. “Just saving the world”
Sam grinned at me, but didn’t say anything.
“Was it… dangerous?” A part of me was incredibly curious to know more details, but the other knew it was all still too recent to want to hear any of it.
“Nothing we couldn’t handle” He nodded calmly, his eyes displaying kindness as usual, but also fondness. “Don’t worry about it, Brooke”
“Sorry” I grinned, locking eyes with him. “Can’t help it”
“I know” He stood up and playfully slapped me in the leg. “Try to get some rest”
“You too” We smiled at each other as Sam left and closed the door behind him.
I thought it was time to go to sleep already so I lied down, put the covers over myself and closed my eyes. It felt cozy to be there, relaxing and doing nothing as I let the slumber take me. I also felt more at ease knowing Sam and Dean were back safely, and that Jack and Cas were there with me too.
I was falling asleep when the door quietly swung open, barely enough letting my hear it. I looked over my shoulder to Jack sticking his head in.
“Sorry” Jack whispered, quite gravely, bearing a serious expression. “I wanted to see if you were awake, I didn’t mean to wake you up”
Before I could even reply, he was already on his way, closing the door once more. But I stopped him, knowing I wouldn’t be able to fall asleep now that I had the chance to talk to him.
“Jack, wait!” I immediately sat up on the bed, trying to sober up. Frowning in anticipation, he cautiously opened the door and expectantly stared at me. “Can we talk?”
Without a word, he nodded and came inside. Jack stood there, not daring to walk closer nor sit on the bed like Sam had done around two hours ago.
“I’m sorry about before” I rubbed my eyes in an attempt to focus on the conversation instead of my drowsiness. “I just needed a minute, but maybe I… shouldn’t have walked away like that?”
“N-No” Jack replied quickly, clearly surprised by my comment. “No, it’s okay, I… I get it”
“But I feel terrible! You probably were so worried and… I don’t know, it just had been a weird day and I wasn’t expecting that you were a nephol… n-ne…” What was that word again?
“Nephilim?” Jack shyly ventured, trying to help me out.
“Yeah, that! A nephilim! I… You’re still the same Jack” I tilted my head and jokingly wrinkled my nose. “It took me a while to realize, but you being a bit angelical doesn’t change the fact that you’re a nerd”
He dedicated me one of his wide adorable grins and even let out a small chuckle. I fondly stuck my tongue out at him.
“Thank you, Brooke” He nodded, and I could read how genuine it was in his eyes.
“Don’t even mention it” Since a silence established, and because my mind was a bit foggy because of the sleepiness, I decided to add something. “Hey, can I ask you a silly question?”
“Of course”
“Is Cas is your dad?”
Jack blinked repeatedly, making a thoughtful pause before replying.
“Yes… no… It’s… a long story” His voice was now low, almost bleak.
“Mind summarizing it for me?” I stifled a yawn against my hand.
“I just… chose him to be my father” The lighthearted expression in his face was suddenly gone.
I forced my weary head to think of something to cheer him up again, missing his smile, but nothing would come to mind. My body was begging me to go to sleep already, but I didn’t want to leave Jack knowing he was troubled. Besides, his company was exhilarating and addictive as usual.
“Why did you ask?” When Jack tilted his head to the side, almost like Castiel would, I felt even sillier asking that question.
“I mean, you look alike, you’re both angels… kinda. You have similar gestures…” I giggled and pointed at him. “Like that little kitty-like head tilt”
Jack grinned again. Mission accomplished.
“I think you need some sleep” Was his only reply, however.
“Probably, I feel kinda drunk” We both laughed a little, and I plopped down into a lying position once more.
“Sleep well” Jack was about to leave, but there was one last thing I wanted to tell him.
“Jack?” I said, not bothering to move.
“Yes?” He said in his soft voice.
“Just so you know, I felt safe with Sam and Dean, but… I feel even safer now knowing two angels are watching over me”
He didn’t reply at first, so I opened my eyes to quickly glance at him. His smile was now so wide that it created wrinkles around his eyes.
“Goodnight, Brooke” He just said as he left the room.
“Nighty night”
