Robin is heretofore thought to be alone when he swings his katana behind him, almost catching the Adam's apple of his mother's new lover.

"Whoopsie!" Danny says, taking an agile step back, as if Robin's slice was a slip of the hand rather than a deliberate and likely fatal attack.

"What are you doing here," Robin demands, mask hiding the momentary widen of his eyes. No one sneaks up on the heir of Batman, least of all his mother's latest toy.

"I wanted to chat, just you and I," Danny says, as if they are standing on a sidewalk and not the rooftop of a forty floor building in the dead of night, Robin in full costume. "I know you were kinda caught off guard yesterday night."

"I was not caught off guard."

This is a lie. Yesterday night when Talia had appeared at the latest Wayne Charity Ball as the date of Daniel Fenton, an up-and-coming name in renewable energy, Father's dumbfounded look had been nothing less than genuine.

And even the Annoyance had choked on his non-alcoholic champagne when Talia had instructed Damian to greet his "new stepfather".

"Talia," Danny had said levelly, running a hand over hers placed delicately in the crook of his arm, "Remember how we were going to break this gently?"

"Darling, Al Ghuls do not require a gentle break," Talia had replied.

"What is happening," Tim had quietly muttered, squinting at the contents of his glass suspiciously. "What."

Tonight Danny is as calm as he was the previous night, looking amused if anything. Damian resists the urge to take another swing at him. Mother would probably not like that. Danny's affections towards her had seemed quite genuine, his eyes often on her with a light Damian reluctantly recognized from Grayson's many dalliances. And dare he say it, Mother had seemed to reciprocate.

"My mistake. Still," Danny says, "I was hoping to speak with you alone."

"I do not require another father," Damian says promptly. This is true. He already has a father, and a Grayson, and the other annoyances, and Alfred. "And you should not be speaking to a...minor...without their guardian present." He does not like saying this, as he is fully capable of being his own guardian, but Dick had been adamant once updated by Tim and Barbara that should Damian come in contact with Danny alone he was to say as such. He had extracted a promise from Damian after a high-pitched lecture via video call going on nigh an hour. Damian had been waterboarded, twice, and would have preferred a third time to one of Grayson's seminars on "stranger danger" and "parental custody". It had prevented him from going on patrol with Batman, who had left shortly after the gala, presumably to meet with his mother.

Batman had not succeeded, returning without a word. Red Hood, cackling, had pulled up behind him to congratulate Damian on his new "daddy" and loudly tell Oracle how Bruce had gotten an eyeful. An eyeful of what, Damian wasn't sure, and asking only made Jason laugh harder and Dick yell from the Batcomputer.

"Good thing I'm speaking to Robin, then," Danny says with a grin. Damian updates his mental file on the man to less of a goody two-shoes than previously thought. "And like I said last night, I'm not here to overstep."

"Then?" Robin asks crossing his arms.

"You and I are a lot alike, actually," Danny says. Despite the chill of the night, wind whipping at his hair, he seems very comfortable in his t-shirt and jeans.

Damian scoffs and Danny holds his hands up.

"Okay, I deserved that one. What I mean is, and bear with me here, I had a lot going on when I was your age, and my parents weren't always super...present. Their work kept them pretty distracted as we got older and more independent."

The background check they'd run indicated Danny's parents were scientists, his sister a therapist and women's self-defense instructor. The man himself had nothing remarkable on his record beyond a public intoxication charge in his early twenties, but that hardly meant anything. Talia Al Ghul's public record was nothing short of exemplary, one of the many facts that had made the judge reluctant to grant Bruce full custody.

"And listen, I know the way I was raised in the midwest is vastly different from your upbringing, and comparing the two would likely be condescending and a disservice to you, but I also know that while I liked my independence, I wish I had been able to talk to my parents more when things got tough."

"I fail to understand what you are saying," Damian says flatly. "Are you instructing me to speak to my parents as you believe I am having a hard time? And your basis for this incredibly incorrect hypothesis is you were once a teenager whose parents were neglectful? Also, this is certainly overstepping."

Danny's smile is sheepish. "It is, isn't it?"

Damian turns to leave.

"What I'm trying to say," Danny says loudly. "Is that I intend to stay in Gotham. I have some things I need to see to here so I'll be here a while.

"And this is important to me because--"

"Talia will be staying." When Damian continues to stare at him blankly, he clarifies: "With me. Here. I mean, we definitely will go on a honeymoon at some point, even though I'm not sure we're actually married no matter what Talia says about that ceremony--"

"Tt. Grandfather will never let Mother simply galavant around."

"You don't need to worry about Ra's any more," Danny says, straightening. His voice is firm and certain. "He won't be bothering you or your mother."

"That's impossible," Damian says sharply.

"You can ask Talia yourself." Danny pulls out a card. "This is the hotel we're staying at. Room 805. You are right that you definitely shouldn't come without your father's permission, but if he's alright with it please feel free."

Danny takes a step closer, and if Damian's quick grip on his katana bothers him he doesn't show it.

"I mean it Robin. I'm not saying Talia's going to petition for joint custody, and I'll make sure Batman knows that as well. I just want you to know she's here. If you ever want to...see her."

He holds out the card until Damian plucks it from his hand with a growl.

"And also, Damian?"

"What?" Damian snaps.

"Your mom talks about you all the time. I think she'd like to see you too."

"Tt." Damian says, eyes darting down to the card. When they flick back up, Danny is gone.

Damian pulls a quick 360, sword drawn, but the man is nowhere to be seen.

"Robin," Batman says in his comm. "Need you on the west docks."

His comm line was open the whole time, he realizes, but Oracle is uncharacteristically silent. A further investigation shows no time has passed since Danny arrived at the roof. Only the card clenched in his fist indicates he was ever there.

"On my way," Damian says, sheathing his weapon.

Hmph. Of course. His mother is no fool, least of all in her selection of lovers.

Upon arriving at the cave later that night, Damian exits the clock at the rear of the group.

"Father," he says as he clears the threshold. "I wish to spend time with Mother and Stepfather at their earliest convenience. Perhaps tomorrow after school."

Everyone stops still, turning to look back at him. Tim pauses mid-stretch, Steph's jaw drops, and Cassie smiles pleasantly at him. Even Alfred, a tray of freshly baked cookies in hand, blinks at him.

Bruce's mouth opens and closes, wordlessly.

"Absolutely not!" Dick Grayson screeches from the other end of the hallway, dufflebag in hand. Behind him Jason grasps the doorway, doubled over in laughter.

More Danny as Talia ideas.

 I think Danny would see themself in Damien a lot when he first starts as Robin. The young vigilante thing is probably something that Danny would not want at all due to how much pain Danny was in when he first started. I feel like Danny started Phantom because he felt guilty due to being the reason the portal opened and I think he would hate Damien starting even younger than he was. 

Damien is definitely introduced to Sam and Tucker at a young age. They are his godparents. Damien grew up probably thinking they were either under their mother's command which is not wrong due to team Phantom or he would think of them as caretakers when he was younger.

Ellie would have trained Damien while she was still in the league. Ellie was definitely Damian's favorite trainer and when she left / faked her death he was really hurt. 

Sam, Tucker and Ellie all live together. Danny goes  to visit them when they complete missions early. The place they live at is said to be a personal safe house for Talila and Damien probably knows it as the last resort place to stay. 

I believe at a young age Danny started to siphon the power off of the Lazarus pits or at least Ras personal Lazarus pit. When it started out as Danny personally taking the power for themselves when they're tired and eventually they continue doing it out of spite.

Prompt 104

 Danny finds himself reincarnating, giving it a try so to say. A new start of sorts, though he knows that Tucker will also be somewhere in the world and Sam will be keeping an eye whenever she’s not working on her uh, internship with Overgrowth. 

 He somehow, despite being in a world of heroes and villains, ends up reincarnating into some sort of assassin cult. Apparently he is keeping the Fenton luck despite a new life. Along with his white hair from his ghost form. Which is understandable with how there’s an ecto-pool in the room over. 

 He’s pretty sure his father is a fruitloop too, maybe. Well, technically he was a fruitloop for a human, but again. Ecto-pool that he was apparently taking dips in. At least this time he has some baby sisters- even if the toddler one keeps trying to stab him. 

 Honestly, feels like home.

Talia did not like her eldest brother. She did not like how her father acted when he was around.

All her life Talia had been told stories of the great Danyal al Ghul, his first born, heir and favorite child. No one could ever compare to Danyal, he was spoken of by the league the same way others would speak of a demigod, something to aspire too but impossibly to achieve.

Talia had often wondered what Danyal would be like in person. She imagined he would be just like their father, cold, stoic, powerful, a true heir of the demons head. She was sorely disappointed when she finally met her brother.

If Talia hadn’t known any better she would have thought an American in his late twenties had wandered into the leagues stronghold, he was wearing old jeans for fathers sake. The man held himself like an average civilian, his looks, his build, his presence was all average.

Perhaps that should have clued her in.

When her siblings had told her Danyal could become invisible Talia had assumed it was his stealth skills they where referring too, she was wrong.

Danyal was a face in the crowd. Good looking enough to gain some attention, not good looking enough to keep it. His facial features seemed to fit nearly every race, with the right clothing or make up he could pass for caucasian, mongoloid, and even negroid. His presence was non threatening but not weak. He was no one special, remembered but not recognizable, he blended in with the background.

He was invisible.

….

The man obviously did not belong here. Even if one disregarded his manner of dress the way he held himself was all wrong. His stance was at ease, calm, as though he was in no danger, and yet his posture didn’t scream misplaced arrogance or even rightly placed confidence. It was as though he had no idea how much danger he was in, casually leaning against the wall of the League of Assassins inner chambers, attempting to make small talk with one of fathers guards.

Talia’s fingers itched to punish this interloper for his disregarded of his station. He should be honored to be standing in these halls. He should be honored to be in the presence of her fathers elite guards. He should be honored to be breathing the same air. He should not be acting so casually

Unfortunately there was nothing she could do, not yet at least. Her father obviously wanted to see this man or he would not have gotten so close to her fathers chambers. Talia would simply wait for her father to be finished with the man and then punish him for his insolence. Perhaps he would remember to show proper respect when he was missing a few toes.

Talia’s siblings had told her Danyal was a man with two faces.

To those he deemed not a threat, he was just another person, he treated people with respect and fought honorable. Warm, open and calm.

But to those who threatened his mission, he was a monster. Unstoppable, cold, like the creeping dread of winter personified.

Talia could not believe what she was seeing. This stranger, this interloper was HUGGING her father, and father wasn’t even trying to stab him.

Was her father smiling? At something other than his enemies suffering?

Was father laughing? A genuine highly laugh?

Was this a hallucination? Was she dreaming?

And then she heard the words that threw her world into disarray

“Welcome home my son”

Talia did not like her eldest brother.

Father was never happy to see her.

Father never smiled in her presence.

Father never loved her like he loved Danyal.

Danyal al Ghul was the heir

And Talia was just the spare.

I've recently been in the dpxdc fandom, it's awesome af and I just had an idea, a weird prompt.

We usually see Danny is or ends up as part of the batfam: Damian's twin, the new adoptee, something like that.

So how about Danny being Talia's older brother? Ra's favorite and the one who set all the standards that Talia, and later Damian, have to reach?

The original idea was: Danny left the LoA when he was young enough to never get to meet Bruce, so he never knew his sister had a son and thus that he was an uncle, he never knew his nephew was a hero nor that his nephew's father and his family were heroes.

So when an adult Danny, Phantom since 14 and High King of the Infinite Realms since 18 (or whatever age you feel like, I feel like that experience makes him very indifferent to a lot, and his morals are more similar to those of ectoentities than living things), met the JL and more specifically the batfamily, he felt the pits in RH and more slightly in Robin, and knew they were on some level involved with the LoA, so he just asked

"So… How did you get dad to let you use the pits?"

To which the batfam responds with "YOUR DAD!"

Then a second idea, derived from the og, was:

JL and JLD found out that the Ra's al Ghul was trying to summon the King of the Infinite Realms, so they go to stop him but fail to do it in time, then Danny in ghost king form appears.

He sees the scene, sees that his father is the one summoning him, and goes

"Oh hey dad!" as he transforms from his eldritch form to human form "You know you can call me right? I have a phone, no need for all this crap" .

Everyone, even Ra's, is shocked.

We've seen a lot of Danny is Damian's twin or older brother but I haven't seen many Danny is Damian's younger brother.

I see this going two ways:

Danny gets whisked away from the league. Probably because Ra's was going to have Damian kill him as a test of loyalty but Talia or one of his nurses was having none of that. He ends up in Illinois, becomes a ghost, bla bla bla. They meet again when Sam drags Danny to a gala in Gotham with her and Damian is like "Danyal!?". Danny is utterly confused because he was too young to remember Damian or the league. Cue Damian going into overprotective 'I'm never letting you out of sight again' mode. The giw doesn't stand a chance once he finds out about them. The batfam is absolutely shocked because no one knew their youngest could be that protective of another person (Damian is 16 in this while Danny is still 14 btw). Him and Jazz are about to duke it out for custody or at least for the position as the most reliable sibling. Danny meanwhile is still processing that he has an assassin older brother. Neat.

Danny reincarnates. He retains his ghost powers somewhat which makes him special in the eyes of Ra's. This means he gets a separate training regimen. Damian sees his younger brother winning all of his grandfather's attention and promptly proceeds to pretend like he doesn't exist when he leaves for Wayne Manor. Out of jealousy and all that. Until one of the batbros is needling him about something or another and he lets it slip. The batfam is instantly like "we gotta rescue him" which Damian is not happy about. The entire rescue mission, he's complaining about how pointless this all is and how Danny is probably living like a king until they break into his room. Danny's room is bare except for a bed and when he sees Damian, he runs to him crying "you came back for me!". It turns out that Danny's training was much crueler to truly bring out the fullest force of his powers (no better trainer than survival and all that). Danny thinks his older brother came to save him and gets attached quickly. Damian refuses to admit how much the guilt is eating him up on the inside. (In this one Damian is 12 and Danny is 10)

Ra al Ghul had a daughter named Talia. Talia had a brief(ish) relationship with Bruce Wayne that resulted in twins Damien and Danyal Al Ghul. They grew up in Nanda Parvati, only really getting to hang out with each other if they were training or fighting. Danyal found out only one of the twins was going to be allowed to survive as Ra's heir, the other would die. Danyal did not tell Damien about this and handled it the only way he knew how.  He convinced Ra to send him on a mission, made the mission go horribly wrong, wired a building to explode, killing everyone else who had come on that mission with him, and left enough evidence for everyone to believe he perished in the blast.  From there Danyal changed his name to Daniel and got himself adopted by the Fentons. Things went about as well as things can go with ghost-obsessed parents and he ended up a half a through a freak portal accident.  Things went okay for a few years until the Fentons (the adults) found out, freaked, trying to kill him/Phantom.  Daniel fled and ended up in Gotham, found out his twin was a Wayne and didn't tell said twin he was alive. Shenanigans and a bit of robbery ensue.

Damian is confident he is the only blood child of Bruce Wayne because Talia killed any potential child of Bruce's alongside their mother. Bruce finds out years later at a gala.

Not even six months into his reign, and he's having to deal with ectoplasmic leaking past Amity's borders and new, unknown threats against his people. And the fact that Gotham, the one city that he had mentally marked as off limits, seems to be where most of the problems are isn't helping.

Danny just wants to be left alone in his little city so he can protect it. He doesn't need to be around the twin brother who never talked to him except to belittle him when they were younger... and he definitely doesn't need to be followed by the furry brigade.

Danyal Al Ghul faked his death to give his younger brother a better life and to give himself the life that he always wanted. Damian Al Ghul was happy to learn his older brother was dead. No longer did he have to live under his shadow. As the years go by, though, this changes for both of them. Danny Fenton never got the life he always wanted. Damian Wayne has realized he will never see his brother again. That is, until the bats summon the Ghost King and soon two sunflowers finally start to grow the way they were meant to. 

Prodigal Of Lazarus  TM SERIES 

The al Ghul heir died, which is how Damian al Ghul inherits the title of heir. By technicality, he gets to keep that title even if the eldest son is revived two years later. Some things happens, and eventually Danny is tasked to escort his younger brother, the heir, to their father. They didn't... exactly tell him he's also to be delivered to Bruce Wayne. To be fair, they could really work with their method of communication! (OR OR The adventures of Danny as he traverses to and from Gotham as the technically-not-heir of al Ghul.)

Bruce is attacked by the ghost of Batman from the future. To get to the bottom of it, he pays a visit to some prominent ghost hunters, and happens to encounter a teenaged half-ghost vigilante (?), who just *happens* to resemble Damian. A lot. On an unrelated note, Tim Drake has done nothing wrong. 

Close Enough To Be Whole Again  NR 

“If you ever find yourself in danger, go to Bruce Wayne. He will help you.” 

His mother had loved him, in her own way. If she hadn’t, she wouldn’t have helped him escape. If she hadn’t, she would have dragged him back to the League of Assassins, to Grandfather. If she hadn’t, he’d be dead. She loved him, but she loved the League more. Jack and Maddie Fenton loved him too, they did, but they loved their work more. They loved their work more. After his parents react poorly to his reveal, Danny escapes to the only person he thinks can help him - Bruce Wayne. He doesn't know what to expect when he gets there, but it has to be better than where he is, surely? He certainly doesn't expect to be reunited with his long lost twin brother Damian. It's funny how things work out that way. Danny is 16 years old, not Phantom Planet compliant 

The Ghostly Bat  T 

The Bat Family were looking for Damain's hidden twin when an explosion at the local burger joint caused them to find him earlier than expected. Danny is confused and angry. As soon as he lost everything, this random man says he's his biological father and is now living with him and his family. Now, nothing makes sense and something deep inside of his is brewing. 

Trial And Error  T SERIES 

Talia tried to have a singular child to be her father's heir. She ended up with two. Damian tried to protect his brother as he was born to do. He failed. Danial tried to be the assassin he was trained to be. He couldn't. Danny tried to be an ordinary child with an ordinary life. Instead he died. 

What Happened? NR

Danny has escaped the GIW and now lives in Gotham injured. The Bat Family finds him and realizes that Damian knows him, but Danny does not remember his full past. Will they be able to help him and find out what happened to the small boy in front of them?

What Do I Think Of Life? (Baby, Not Much, I Wanna Die) T

Injured and alone in Gotham, Danny gets into a fight he can barely handle. Taken in by a vaguely familiar Robin, against his will at first, he learns about the Bats and the Birds, slowly but surely.

What is the worst thing you have put your OC through story-wise? + Ezzy

Possibly his entire life. Kidding (or am I)

Ezzy has a pretty tragic life. Being the reincarnation of an eldritch death clock and taking on the name and duty of the angel of death Ezzy is already set up for an edgy life.

But he is a born into a loving family and has a good childhood up until his father, Sam, passes away from tuberculosis when Ezzy is ten. Ezzy is strife with grief and a now broken family. As the years go on Ezzy is plagued by mental health issues and isolation from his peers. When he is sixteen his visions and prophecies from G-d hit him head on, all of his dreams are prophetic, he gets hit with visions during his waking hours and they leave him temporarily paralyzed and often seizing when they are finished. This plus his already declining mental state leads into a breakdown where he goes into psychosis and has hallucinations and delusions. He cannot tell what is real or not. He cannot sleep. He is alone and he misses his dad.

This is during the 1910s-1920s and mental healthcare is almost nonexistent. His other father, Zipporah, tries his best, but most doctors reccomend permanent institutionalization at an asylum if they believe Zipporah at all. Zipporah doesn't wish that for his son and keeps him home. Eventually Ezzy tries to commit suicide by hanging himself, but is found by his brother and is unsuccessful.

Ezzy's teenage years are terrible and he often doesn't remember them. He manages to convince Zipporah to let him go to college in New York to live with a family friend, and luckily he gets his prophecies and visions mostly under control. He's not doing Great but hes not doing Bad. His psychosis comes and goes. He enjoys university studying history and writing. He learns French and discovers new music scenes. The family friend he lives with gives him a pet cat before he passes away. Ezzy then goes to live with his sister and her roommate. His sister keeps a careful eye on him. Ezzy gets a job at a radio station and meets a wonderful girl named Talia. They're set to get engaged when he gets a horrible vision: an impending war.

Ezzy gets drafted into a 25 year long war. It is horrible, and Ezzy wishes for nothing more than to go home. But when the war finally ends it leads him into another mental breakdown. A major one. He goes AWOL deep in his delusions and paranoia and ends up in Greece where his father comes to collect him and brings him home. Ezzy is slowly grounded to reality and he sees Talia again where they have a small wedding along the lakeside. And Ezzy after that lives mostly in content with his family. He is never able to "cure" his mental illness, but tries his best to manage it.

So I'd say about the first quarter of his life is the worst thing I've done to him. For now 😏

Also going through Maya’s route again really drove home the parallels with Maya and Aziz’s routes.

Whereas all the other parallel routes (Talia & Conrad, Jo & Viv, Imani & Alyosha) share a lot of similar events, plotlines or scenes, I feel like the parallels in Maya & Aziz’s routes are more thematic than anything. (Spoilers)

In Maya’s route, we learn that she was once in love and in some kind of relationship with the goddess Persephone. During the game Maya is still very much stuck in a toxic situationship with her. Persephone claims to love Maya and expects to Maya love her back, but she only uses that as an excuse to make Maya do her bidding. Even if once upon a time Maya might have had feelings for Persephone, she has clearly moved on emotionally. But she also feels like she cannot get out, both because she feels a huge debt for Persephone for helping to pay for her transition, and also because Persephone treats her like property and will not let her go.

Then we get to Aziz’s route, where Sam is also very much struggling to get away from another goddess, Inanna. It’s supposed to be a working relationship, but Inanna clearly acts like she owns Sam and doesn’t accept a no for an answer from him.

Just like many other gods and goddesses we meet in the story, Persephone and Inanna seem to view S.Humans as servants, barely human and not really having agency. Free will and being able to choose your destiny and how you live is one of the overarching themes in the whole game, and many of the gods don’t seem to think S.Humans are allowed to have that. At one point, Farah wonders “Do all gods see everyone like that? Or is it just us S.Humans?”

Maya and Persephone’s relationship also parallels that of Sam and Aziz’s, and shows how badly loving a god could turn out. Maya and Sam both have a romantic history with a god, even though Sam has been in denial about Aziz being one. Whereas Persephone will readily manipulate Maya’s emotions, uses her “love” for Maya as blackmail material and won’t accept any kind of disobedience, I feel like Aziz does not actively try to stop Sam from making his own choices and does not try to play mind games with him. Sure, he is very open about pursuing Sam and wanting him to come back to both him and Inanna, but I never really got the vibe that Aziz would have tried to manipulate Sam.

I think it’s also interesting how many of the gods seem to view S.Humans as not fully human because they view them as obedient dolls, whereas Aziz says that he sees Sam as not fully human, because to him Sam is something more than regular humans.

To me, it feels like someone like Persephone or Inanna probably could never separate their relationships from wanting to rule over others, whereas with Aziz it feels like he does have his own twisted way of loving, but it’s on different terms from mortals. He is drawn to Sam’s destructive potential and pushes him to fulfill that potential even if that is probably not the thing that would be best for Sam. He is even pretty flippant about the prospect of Sam dying, because reincarnation is a thing and a god has no trouble waiting for someone to be born again. From a human pov these things are a bit ??? but from a god’s pov they probably make total sense.

Anyway I don’t mean to excuse Aziz’s douchebag behavior or anything but I really felt like his feelings and vulnerability for Sam were genuine, especially contrasted with Persephone and Maya’s situation. And even though being a god explains a lot about his character it also doesn’t mean that he is exactly the same as some of the other gods.

Also, thinking about the “good” endings where the lesbians (Maya and Farah) say ‘fuck this shit, let the gods fight it out themselves and we can get outta here’, whereas the chaotic bisexuals (Sam and Aziz) decide that the only way to win is to kill the old gods and then proceed to become just as bad if not worse than them 😂

Okay, contenders for why I listed this out to seven or more daughters, because everyone’s very fixed on two answers (and I’m pretty sure who they’re counting):

None – this is DC’s favourite answer for many periods actually. Amused how few votes this is getting.

Cassandra Cain – Cass was legally adopted at the end of Batgirl 2008, then written out of continuity after Flashpoint, and since her return I think has not officially been confirmed as adopted on page?

Helena Wayne (current) – Bruce’s future daughter with Selina who might now count as from another timeline. Currently starring in the JSA.

Helena Wayne (pre-Crisis) – arguably a different future daughter Helena of Bruce and Selina from a completely separate timeline given their backstories involve different parents dying and very few overlapping details other than their names.

Helena Kyle (postboot) – welcome to my favourite old conspiracy. Officially Helena Kyle is the daughter of Selina Kyle and Sam Bradley, as confirmed by a DNA test run by Bruce himself. In practice – DC spent a lot of time trying to fake everyone out going back and forth over who was Helena’s dad (look. Look at her name) and there’s an old conspiracy that Bruce made sure the test said he wasn’t the father, to make life easier for everyone involved. Also Bruce got a little bit of dad time in with baby and toddler Helena. Look, it’s a 2006-2007 thing.

Helena Bertinelli – definitely not biologically related to Bruce, definitely not adopted by Bruce, definitely never treated like a daughter by Bruce, but technically sort of a reincarnation of Helena Wayne (pre-Crisis) if you count that sort of thing. Also was running around Gotham being Not Your Kid at the same time Jean-Paul Valley was doing the same thing while also referring to himself as the prodigal son, making the lines very blurry.

Athanasia Al Ghul - Oh heck I was just reminded this Talia and Bruce kid exists in various alternate continuities. I don’t think Athanasia exists as a future daughter anywhere.

Barbara Gordon – acting as a parental figure/we’re counting unofficial daughters-in-law, round one. Barbara would heavily dispute this. (The Bruce who kissed Barbara’s forehead when she was dying of Brainiac poisoning would probably say she’s an unofficial emotional daughter. The rest of the time he’d refuse to engage with the question)

Stephanie Brown – acting as a parental figure/we’re counting unofficial daughters-in-law, round two. Steph would like to point out that she has two (usually) living parents, even if Crystal Brown has never been consistently drawn from issue to issue and Arthur’s occasionally dead or pretending to be dead, and she’s never lived at the Manor thank you very much. You can be a Robin without being Bruce’s kid.

Koriand’r – well you did just suggest unofficial/potential future daughters-in-law count, round three.

Carrie Kelley – she’s a Robin, she’s a girl, she was under Bruce’s mentorship as a vigilante while Robining… but she also had her own two parents and never lived with Bruce.

Harper Row – she’s a vigilante he watches over, Bruce does spend a fair bit of time worrying about her living arrangements.

Claire Clover – she’s a vigilante Bruce was mentoring, he was emotionally close to her for a period.

Mary Kowalski/Miracle Molly – Gotham vigilante clause, wasn’t she living in part of the Manor/Cave at one point?

A confusing number all named Helena, no others – we’re preferencing biological daughters of Bruce only and nobody can get an accurate count on how many of them there are!

Looking for a Romance this Valentine’s Day?

So, every publication and blogger is putting out a Valentine’s Day romance list, and we are nothing if not followers. We’ve assembled a large list (33 Books) of a mix of traditionally and indie published books. All of the books on this list are ones we’ve read and feel comfortable recommending. And they all fit the definition of romance - a story where the relationship is central to the overall plot and features a happy for now or happily every after ending.

We’re going to break this down into several categories because not everyone reads Regency romances (but we are going to start there).

Regency Romance

These are books set between 1795-1837. While the Regency itself was only from 1811-1820 most people use these dates including Wikipedia. This was honestly one of the hardest for us to narrow down, mostly because it’s the dominant genre in traditionally published romance -- even Contemporary doesn’t hold a candle to Regency right now.

Sweet Disorder - Rose Lerner - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Election hijinks ensue when the local election hinges on who the widowed wife of a newspaper printer marries. Other Notes: Plus-Sized Heroine, Family Drama, Disabled Characters, Everyday People Falling in Love, Marginalized Author (Jewish).

The Baroness Affair - Jean Wilde - M/M/F Romance (Steamy) - A desperate noblewoman enlists the help of a male courtesan to help her get pregnant... no it’s not what you think. Other Notes: Equal Triad Polyamory, Period Appropriate Homophobia, LBGT Romance, Family Drama.

How To Start a Scandal - Madeline Martin - M/F Romance (Steamy) - A wallflower and secret society reporter reconnects with the Earl Next Door who’s recently returned from the war. Other Notes: Plus-Sized Heroine, Family Drama, Positive Mental Illness Portrayal, Cute Plot Animals.

Project Duchess - Sabrina Jeffries - M/F Romance (Steamy) - A duke returns to his family after the mysterious death of his stepfather, yet another duke, only to be enchanted by a woman who has a connection to the last person to see his stepfather alive. Other Notes: Older Heroine (the whole series features these), Romantic Suspense Series, family drama. I’m really enjoying the whole series and it’s worth a read.

The Rakess - Scarlett Peckham - M/F Romance (Steamy) - This is a love it or hate it kind of book that flips so many of the conventional romance tropes on its ear. It features a hard-drinking, hard-smoking, highly sexual woman who authors progressive literature and causes a scandal just by living her life meeting up with a mild-mannered reputation conscious Scottish Architect with two small children. Even the cover flips the script on the classic clinch cover. I loved it. A lot people didn’t. Other notes: Period appropriate sexism/hypocrisy/etc., CW: alcoholism, neighbors to lovers, adorable plot moppets.

Paranormal Romance

These are romances that feature a fantastical element. This can be anything from vampires to shifters to time travel. These also will often be series which may or may not continue with the same relationship throughout several books.

Hot Ghost - Annika Martin - M/F Romance (Steamy) - A waitress finds love with the ghost who haunts the pier near her family’s restaurant. Other Notes: Major Character Death (It’s a Ghost Romance...), Everyday People Falling in Love, Novella.

Accepting Fate - Deanna Chase - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Fresh from a bad break up, a woman meets her soulmate at an art gallery opening. Together they have to work through their trauma and find out if they can be happy together. Other Notes: Childhood trauma, Fire Fighter Romance, Soulmates, Artists.

Gretel - Niamh Murphy - F/F Romance (Steamy) - A retelling of the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel with a very interesting twist. Other Notes: Age-Gap Romance, Novella.

One Shade of Grey - Monica Corwin - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Dorian Grey, yes that one, has a bit of a problem. He keeps seeing a woman who he thinks is the reincarnation of his lost love. But is she really? Or is he going insane? Other Notes: Positive Portrayal of Mental Illness, Classical Story Retelling, Billionaire Romance, Immortality

Tangled in Time - Barbara Longley - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Cursed to see spirits, Regan is approached by the spirit of a cursed Irish warrior. Now they must work together to lift his curse and fall in love along the way. Other Notes: Fae Romance, Time Travel Romance, Ghost Romance.

Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites - Joy Demorra - M/M/F Romance (Steamy or Fluffy) - A vampire, a werewolf, and a magic user walk into a plot to end the world. Of course they have to fall in love along the way. Other Notes: Vampire Romance, Werewolf Romance, Magic User Romance, LBGT Fantasy Romance, Bisexual Romance, Postive Mental Illness representation, Marginalized Author (Disabled, Queer, Neurodivergent).

Erotic Romance

These are books where the sex is as much a part of the romance as the rest of the story. The plots here tend to be thinner, but they’re still present and important. This is not smut for smut’s sake. The relationship is important too. All of these are going to rate high on the steam.

After Hours - Lynda Aicher - M/F Romance - An executive assistant accidentally observes an after hours orgy in one of the boardrooms. Rather than be repulsed, she’s aroused. And up for more. Other Notes: Workplace Romance, Voyeurism, Exhibitionism, Mild BDSM, Boss/Subordinate Relationship.

Loving Maddie from A to Z - Kelly Jamison - M/M/F Romance - An outwardly happy couple looks to add something to their relationship by inviting their friend into their home and bed. Other Notes: Polyamory, BDSM, Big City Romance.

Ever After - Eden French - M/M/F Romance - An erotic modern retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale featuring billionaires, celebrities, and lots of hot sex. Other Notes: Interracial Romance, Polyamory, Billionaire Romance, CW: Child Abuse.

Test Drive - N.S. Johnson - M/F Romance - A so-called good girl finds that she’s really not when she falls for the leader of a street racing crew. Other Notes: Polyamory, CW: Infidelity, Interracial Romance, Reverse Harem, Recreational Drug Use, Author of Color.

Other Historical Romance

These are romances set outside of the Regency but not during contemporary periods. A lot of old school romances tend to be this because medieval was big then. But it also includes everything up to 1990 too... Yeah... I know... I feel old.

Let It Shine - Alyssa Cole - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Set during the civil rights movement, this story follows two young people struggling to find their voice and love amidst the turmoil of the 1960s. Other Notes: Interracial Romance, Period Appropriate Racism, Period Appropriate Anti-Semitism, Author of Color, Sports Romance, Novella.

In Pursuit Of... - Courtney Milan - M/M Romance (Steamy) - Set immediately after the American War for Independence it features a British soldier falling in love with a Black man who fought for the American side. Other Notes: Interracial Romance, Romantic Comedy, period appropriate racism, author of color, Novella.

Bringing Down the Duke - Evie Dunmore - M/F Romance (Steamy) - A rare female scholar tries to keep her scholarship going while also crusading for the rights of women in Victorian England. Other Notes: Alpha Hero, Clueless Heroine.

Contemporary Romance

These romances are set in the last 25 years and run the gamut of tropes.

Get a Life, Chloe Brown - Talia Hibbert - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Sick of living her life wrapped in tissue paper, Chloe Brown sets off to live a little. And to do that, she needs the help of her building’s manager. Other Notes: Plus-Sized Heroine, Interracial Romance, Disabled Characters, Positive Portrayal of Mental Illness, Marginalized Author (Black). As a note the sequel Take a Hint, Dani Brown is just as good and features a Bisexual Woman of Color.

Beg, Borrow, or Steal - Susie Tate - M/F Romance (Fluffy) - A medical student has to juggle the needs of being a single mother, a student, and paying the bills. And if that means she’s got to take off her clothes to do that, that’s what she’s going to do. Too bad she keeps falling asleep in class. Other Notes: No Sex (No really), But also Super sex positive, Student/Teacher Relationship, Adorable Plot Moppet.

Soft Hands - Ariel Bishop - M/M Romance (Steamy) - A professional Hockey Player ends up falling for the team trainer and massage therapist. Other Notes: Bisexual Rep, Sports Romance, Interracial Romance.

The Year We Fell Down - Sarina Bowen - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Two people who’ve suffered from accidents which have left them disabled find each other at a Harvard Expy. While one of the characters only has a temporary disability (broken leg) it still fucking counts. Other Notes: New Adult Romance, Disabled characters, Sports Romance, College Romance.

Small Town Romance

A subgenre of Contemporary Romance, these are books set in a small town and often the stakes tend to be pretty low. They can run the range of no-sex to lots of steam. They are also often VERY WHITE. While many are set in America, they can also be set elsewhere with Australia and the British Isles being the most common other settings.

Falling for Her Brother’s Best Friend - Noelle Adams - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Who doesn’t love a small town romance featuring characters that used to be childhood friends becoming more? Other Notes: New Adult Romance.

The Last One - Tawdra Kandle - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Meghan, an art student, and Sam, a farmer, and how they meet in small-town Georgia when Meghan comes to teach art over the summer to the kids in town…and ends up staying with Sam and his family. Other Notes: Alpha Male Hero.

If Wishes Were Horses - Caitlyn Lynch - M/F Romance (Steamy) - When an Aussie woman inherits partial ownership in a horse ranch in Ireland, sparks fly. Other Notes: Novella, Irish Romance.

Old School Romance

These are romances that were written before the rise of indie publishing where white men had the power and it shows. These are what people point to when they reduce romance novels to just “bodice rippers” but even then they weren’t just that.  BTW none of these books feature Fabio so suck it!

Skye O’Malley - Bertrice Small - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Daughter of a small Irish lord, this book follows Skye through her life and romances across England, Ireland, and even Algeria. It’s wild and all over the place and is not your typical romance novel. It ends on a HEA but there is a JOURNEY. But gods it’s one of my old-school faves. Other Notes: Major Character Death. Non-Con, Pirates, Interracial Romance, Historical Domain Characters, This is not your typical romance. I like the whole series... but that’s a me thing.

The Traveling Matchmaker Series - Marion Chesney/M.C Beaton - M/F Romance (Fluffy) - A housekeeper inherits a large sum of money and decides to use it to travel about England. Along the way, she makes matches for the other passengers of the stagecoach she’s traveling on while getting into all sorts of adventures. This series is pure fluff and I love it. Other Notes: Period appropriate xenophobia, Age Gap Romance.

Remembrance - Jude Deveraux - M/F Romance (Steamy) - A romance novelist discovers that the reason she hasn’t found love is because of an issue with her past life. So she decides to do something about it... only to find it’s just the very tip of the story. Other Notes: Time Travel Romance, Past Lives, Meta... so very meta.

Desire in Disguise - Rebecca Brandewyne - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Look this is set during the French Revolution and features duelling (quite literally) pirates. This is a wild ride and it’s so old school it hurts. Other Notes: Alpha hero, mistaken identity, enemies to lovers, spies, pirates, But oh so many problematic tropes. This looks to be out of print... so check your local library.

Gentle Warrior - Julie Garwood - M/F Romance (Steamy) - Set right after the Norman Invasion of England, this features a Norman Lord who was granted an Anglo-Saxon wife and all of the drama that comes with. Note... this is the first Romance Novel I ever read.. My mother bought it for me when it was newish -- in 1987. Other Notes: CW: Rape, Arranged Marriage, Non-conventionally Attractive Hero.

Books that check all of the boxes of Romance but aren’t Labeled as Romance because Sexism.

Romance isn’t about sex. There’s lots of books with explicit sex in them that aren’t Romance and several with a strong romantic relationship that drives the plot which ends happily and satisfying. But sexism is a thing and so here we are.

The Princess Bride - William Goldman - M/F Romance (Fluffy) - You’ve probably seen the movie. The book is also fun. And since the romance is central to the plot AND the ending is a happy one (especially in the movie) it qualifies.

The Hunger Games Trilogy - Suzanne Collins - M/F Romance (Fluffy) - Look who would have thought that in a book about kids killing each other and the violence of war that Romance would play that big of a role? But it does. And it is. And it’s important.

Katherine - Anya Seton - M/F Romance (Fluffy) - This could feasibly go into Old School Romance, but apparently the publishers have decided to downplay the actual romance and try to sell this as literature. It follows the real-life Romance between Katherine Swineford and the Duke of Lancaster.

Can someone please write a fic of Danny being reincarnated as Talia but from the bat family's POV. all the things still go down like Damien being born and the entire beloved stalking thing but there is a reason for it. I want it later to be revealed that Damian has an older sister which is Ellie; whether or not she is also Bruce's kid is up to the writer. The entire beloved stalking thing is Danny committing to the bit.

I want the plot to follow the bat family needing to find Talia and finding out about Danny doing Phantom things. The bat family Would find out about Danny doing crime fighting at about 15-19 I imagine with the rest of Team Phantom. whether or not they find out about ghosts and the ghost Zone is optional. They end up needing Sam and Tucker who go by the names Nightshade and pharaoh. I also want it to be revealed later that the only reason they're still in the league is to keep Damien and Ellie safe. Ras thinks Ellie is dead and then the bat family investigates and figures out that she is alive.

@mkarchin713 i love your addition so much! Love to give Talia the same trauma and issues i typically give Damian. Mirror on the wall~ haha! Ra's even likes Nyssa more than Talia. He even gave Nyssa a lazarus pit cuz hes so impressed! So it cant be the gender thing. In fact, he's more indifferent to her in comparison to his other kids. I like that Talia is a lot more intense and weird about the whole cult thing her dad has in comparison to her siblings who visit like "hey take a chill pill, demon child." and you see her bristle and hiss like a cat very Damian-like. Her siblings @ their dad's cult are like "so embarassing dad why are you like this?(Danny & Dusan)/I could make a better cult (Nyssa & also Danny)". Talia is the only one who was contented in being a 'faithful follower' type among the siblings who are like chill and more "Urghh an assasination again? In Kansas?? Urghh (Chore whining)" meanwhile Talia is like "being born in this cult is the best thing that ever happened to me and the highest possible honor of existence. (Concerningly genuine)"

If we go for the reincarnation trope, we could say that Danny was born a few centuries older than Nyssa. He's got spotty memory of his past life. NOT enough to be ultimately disguisted of own actions and all the killing and dubious morals but enough to regain some past experience and knowledge [ei. Fighting (his mom was a black belt in various martial arts and taught them as bonding plus field experience from being phantom), astronomy, mechanics, etc.] that got him declared as a 'prodigy' among the ranks. Not enough to rewrite his whole personality but enough to change it a bit to become more mentally assured in comparison to if he hasn't remembered anything. He had a whole identity crisis in the middle of a mission that almost killed him and got his memories to resurface.

Sam could be reborn as a a plant themed meta and still an activist. Tucker could be reborn as an artificer who works with Ms. Diana Prince.

I've recently been in the dpxdc fandom, it's awesome af and I just had an idea, a weird prompt.

We usually see Danny is or ends up as part of the batfam: Damian's twin, the new adoptee, something like that.

So how about Danny being Talia's older brother? Ra's favorite and the one who set all the standards that Talia, and later Damian, have to reach?

The original idea was: Danny left the LoA when he was young enough to never get to meet Bruce, so he never knew his sister had a son and thus that he was an uncle, he never knew his nephew was a hero nor that his nephew's father and his family were heroes.

So when an adult Danny, Phantom since 14 and High King of the Infinite Realms since 18 (or whatever age you feel like, I feel like that experience makes him very indifferent to a lot, and his morals are more similar to those of ectoentities than living things), met the JL and more specifically the batfamily, he felt the pits in RH and more slightly in Robin, and knew they were on some level involved with the LoA, so he just asked

"So… How did you get dad to let you use the pits?"

To which the batfam responds with "YOUR DAD!"

Then a second idea, derived from the og, was:

JL and JLD found out that the Ra's al Ghul was trying to summon the King of the Infinite Realms, so they go to stop him but fail to do it in time, then Danny in ghost king form appears.

He sees the scene, sees that his father is the one summoning him, and goes

"Oh hey dad!" as he transforms from his eldritch form to human form "You know you can call me right? I have a phone, no need for all this crap" .

Everyone, even Ra's, is shocked.
