“Well. They wouldn’t be wrong.” She linked her hands together over his shoulders, pulling out her jack so the cable was like a garrote as she offered it to him. “I’ll take a look.”

There was a good chance that Alt was right and either Arasaka was going to end up killing him or locking him back in that box if he kept this up, but he knew V was going to come around. For all her bluff he didn’t think she would kill him as long as he left the guard dog and the princess alone. He could wait for her crushes to fade.

“So long as you handle me gently,” he said, as he took the jack from her and slotted it into place. Tried to remember when having a hole in his head had stopped freaking him out. “Alt did some kind of compression shit to me once, woke up feeling like I’d been kicked in the head.”

“Little Johnny Zipfile,” V laughed, pulling him back with her to sit on the bed. “Is she going to be jealous if I play with her chew toy?”

“Alt doesn’t give a shit what I do.” Or tell him what she was doing. She didn’t trust him not to open his big mouth, which was insulting, but then again V had made a career of espionage, so probably the right call. “And as long as you don’t try to find her she doesn’t give a shit what you do either.”
