Speaking of "The City on the Edge of Forever," I've been thinking about how my femslash Spirk AU winds out through the canon TOS episodes, interacts with gender expectations of the show, etc, and am mentally organizing episodes by how drastically affected they'd be.
I'm also thinking of S'paak hiding her ears beneath a beanie in 1930 :P
#s'paak and jessica in a piece of the action too! damn. i didn't even think of their mobster suit chic era when i was planning but...#still. poor s'paak freezing while trying to build a computer out of 1930 materials and also passing as fully human AND pining#iirc there's canonically only one bed in their flop (no really) and she's torn between staying as far away as possible when they sleep#(for lesbian angst reasons) or huddling near her (for lesbian angst + living space heater reasons)#i think s'paak is obviously ice-cold when jessica's skin brushes hers but she blatantly lies about being fine and stays 6 in away at night#jessica (exhausted but trying to think of how to convince her. suddenly struck by genius): i don't understand why you're being illogical :(#s'paak: *affronted cat look*#also poor s'paak not only has to watch jess fall for edith but keep them from smashing into homophobia in the usa c. 1930#on the bright side both jessica and s'paak look very cute and i think s'paak finds she likes the music of the time#it once slips out when all three of them are talking that s'paak is musical and when edith is like 'oh what do you play?' s'paak is '...'#and jessica promptly says: oh she's a wonderful harpist. the first time i heard her play with some - uh - friends i stopped in the hall#and stood outside the door and just listened because i was on my way to somewhere else but it was so beautiful#edith: oh how lovely <3 i hope you'll be able to find an instrument to play someday - if things get better. i really do believe they will.#s'paak: ...i hope so. (and then edith goes away and with some not quite concealed exasperation s'paak is like#i have never understood how you manage to manufacture narratives out of nothing. and jessica just says 'well it's easier#if you take something that really happened and change a few details. it was your lyre instead of a harp of course.#and not all friends but just the rec room on *makes a gesture obviously meant to mime a starship. possibly with sound effects*#but i did get distracted and stand listening until our... mutual friend wanted to know what was taking me so long to get to the hospital.'#s'paak: .......i see.)#anghraine babbles#fic talk#fic talk: the lesbian spock agenda#s'paak#jessica kirk#star peace#genderbending#c: i object to intellect without discipline#c: who do i have to be#otp: the premise

What if in the upcoming Strange New Worlds Musical episode, we suddenly see Paul Wesley as Kirk disappearing into a room.
He abruptly reappears, walking out in a bowtie tux.
Tumblr media
He has a stool and a microphone in hand.
He puts down the stool and promptly sits upon it.

He snatches out a "jazz cigarette", lights it, takes a generous drag, and begins:
"Packed my bag last night, pre-flight; zero hour, 9 am . . .
Tumblr media
and I'm going to be high as a kite by then . . . "
The USS Enterprise crew:

*Whispering* "Maybe if we don't look he'll stop . . ."

"Captain, do something. Shut it down!"

Meanwhile, Spock:

trying to decide who would be the mc that gets to do the action hero's help quest
Neel feels like the obvious choice bc according to Hunt he fucks up everything he does, so CLEARLY Hunt would ask the guy he thinks is most likely to screw up getting a shitty script to where it needs to go & accidentally leak it
however comma. since the whole quest is making fun of action movie tropes. Avalon kinda turning into Sweaty Angry Action Hero & Hunt trying. reeeeal hard not to let anyone know how attracted to Avalon he is. but since its Hunt, to everyone else it seems like hes normal. but to Hunt himself it feels like this 👇

Tenma Star Trek related headcanons
He has a notebook somewhere which details his life as a starship captain and what role his friends would play
He wants to go to Iowa to see Captain Kirk's future birthplace
Has made his own phaser (does it work? I hope not)
Practiced moving his eyebrows independently of each other in the mirror so he can do the Spock Fascinating thing
Likes to talk about how he would handle an episode conflict differently and why he would be a better captain than Kirk (Hiroshi won't watch with him when he gets like this)
He hosts an annual Spock's Brain party where he and Hiroshi (and anyone else they wrangle) watch episodes of Star Trek and drink, and end the night with Spock's Brain while inebriated
Even though he mainly watches the original series he looooves the nextgen episodes about Data and the Borg

I think it'd be funny if Tuvok was from some isolated town where everyone loved him and he hated it. Like, to be clear NO ONE outside of his hometown has heard of him but for some reason his family is important in the town and only this one town [perhaps they're religious leaders due to his strong spiritual ties] and so whenever he's there he's treated like a local celebrity. People stop him to talk in the street. He gets discounts at any local store without asking. If he's visiting with his kids they'll get showered with toys and candy. They love it but Tuvok's grumbling about how this is why he moved... I just think it'd be funny if Tuvok came from a very niche-ly privileged upbringing that he treated like a dark backstory. You don't want to see his childhood hometown....it's fucked up...it was like hell, living somewhere where you were popular and everyone doted on you...you'd never understand his pain. He was voted class president every year and didn't volunteer once. He didn't even show up to a single meeting one year and they still voted him in the next year. When he returns to his hometown after the Voyager incident he finds that nearly everyone in town came to greet him and is logically mortified. Janeway or whomever is like "Tuvok this is such a sweet gesture" while Tuvok's glancing around for a cliff to jump off. He has a plaque dedicated to him at the local temple when he didn't even serve there. Guy who wants to be left alone vs Entire town of people who love and respect him

every time i see someone talk about how bad AOS is and how it’ll never live up to TOS i get so sad. like i was only 5 when the first AOS movie came out, and my mom liked it, so i liked it, and i grew up watching the first two movies. into darkness is still a big comfort movie for me and i like to watch it whenever i’m bummed out.
i didn’t even know TOS was a thing until i was like, 16, and when i tried watching it i just could not get into it. idk.

my absolute favourite thing about the kirk and spock dynamic is that the whole time you’re watching the show spock is gaslighting you into thinking that kirk is this loose canon and spock is paragon of logic keeping his captain on the straight and narrow when its very clearly the other way round. aside from being turned on by everyone and fighting like an old-timey boxer…. kirk is just like.. quite a logical, stable guy. like yeah he rules with his emotions but he’s rarely reckless or erratic, even in situations of immense pressure he’s always calm and measured. sure kirk is unhinged and insane, but we knew that right off the bat. spock on the other hand tries to hide how insanely balls to the walls crazy he is by standing next to jim and hiding all his derangement with logic. i think the reason bones beefs with spock so much because he is the only one who has noticed that spock is an absolutely unhinged individual. (jim is too busy doodling <3 mr jim spock <3 all over his briefings to notice)

i know spock marooning jim in AOS was the wrong move but it was literally the funniest thing he could have done and i stand by that
this little shit who has done nothing but Cause Problems since day one is getting up in his face screaming about how spock's a coward and fuck the chain of command and spock, who is already sick of his ass and developing an impressive migraine, is like ok fine lets put him in the brig until he stops throwing a fucking tantrum
jim keeps yelling. spock's migraine reaches previously untold heights. jim starts brawling with security. that's the last straw and spock literally just chucks him out an airlock.
you cant tell me that isnt objectively hilarious

I think it'd be funny if Stonn didn't have anything against Spock until AFTER he says that Having V. Wanting thing to him at the end of the episode - and then he wishes he HAD killed him. [Patreon | Commissions]

“Lower Decks was made by people who hate Star Trek”
No, lower decks was made by people who love Star Trek enough to make an entire show about everything Star Trek is, to put in references to episodes that barely anyone knows about, to watch all of Star Trek enough to know every stereotype and running gag in the fandom, and to still make the show able to stand on its own 2 feet.
They put in a reference to the animated series episode “the infinite Vulcan” where Spock is cloned to be a massive Vulcan, they put in a reference in the comics about “The way to Eden” in their first edition, these are people who care about Star Trek enough to find every nook and cranny of it, and create a likeable show about it.
I am also a firm believer that if you truly like a show, you are able to point out that it does have flaws, and to accept that, and I feel that lower decks does that perfectly. It shows that your little perfect Star Trek show has flaws and inconsistencies, but shows that you can still enjoy watching the show, as well as you can fix those mistakes or just have it be funny.
I really like lower decks. 🫠
