Welcome one and all to Mcytblr's Fancharacter Fest!
March edition 🌷🌱🌿
ID in alt is available! 🗒️
Some info about it:
An art challenge started by me to celebrate mcytblr's creations! Specifically OCs or fancharacters inspired by the gimmick of an smp, the story or origin of your favorite character, fankids, fanpets and similar!
All the prompts were chosen through a poll and the most popular option between three words was selected.
If anyone is wondering you can absolutely draw other people's fancharacters (as long as they allow it) and in fact, from me at least, you're encouraged to.
For art I don't only mean traditional and digital drawings, I also mean paintings, writing, singing, web weaving, anything that is creation! If you write something and post it on AO3 please make a post on the challenge's tag and link your work :) go nuts with it and have lots and lots of fun ! :D
There's no obligation to make all 31 prompts, even just one that you like a lot. You should post it on the day you've chosen, you don't have to make it on that day.
And don't worry if you're late to the party, you can post prompts you've missed, sometimes schedules are hard and posting on time is impossible, so no worries.
Also maybe you didn't know about this and you wanna make something. Go for it ^_^.
But! You can't post a prompt early, they have a specific date for a reason.
Tag for the art challenge will be #mcytblr's fancharacter fest
If you have any questions about anything my inbox is open :)
Reblogs to share this around are really appreciated! <3
Thank you so much and here!!

What DOES this event look like?
So, I know that I have wanted to do a recursive exchange in the MCYT space, probably in the winter of 2024, open to all of MCYT.
It will be an exchange where you write fic of fic— a work inspired by someone else's work. But how exactly will it run? There are two options, and I'm asking the community to help me decide.
#1: Remix Exchange.
In that exchange we will have qualifing fandoms (probably the canonized tags on Ao3) and you have to have written a certain number of qualifying fics in those fandoms to sign up. Then when you sign up you do so with the ships in your past works and the ships you are willing to write, both platonic and romantic! And then you're matched with someone who has written the ships you're interested in. You then remix one of their fics, writing an AU, prequel, sequel, alternate POV, etc
So for example I would sign up having written mostly Dream SMP Technoblade & Phil Watson, but I am willing to write anything from SMPearth, most Dream SMP, a bunch of QSMP, some 3rd Life, and anything from Origins. I might be matched with someone whose main pairing is DSMP Quackity & Tubbo, and I’ll scan through their fics for one I want to respond to. Meanwhile, someone who offered DSMP Technoblade & Phil Watson is reading my fics, looking for one to respond to.
We'll have our creation period like is usual for an exchange, and when I post my gift I will be using both the "gift to" function and the "inspired by" function. Once posted, there will be an anonymous period of the exchange where I get a mystery gift and my gifter gets a gift that is on anon as well, and then all will be revealed a week later.
#2: Derivative Works Exchange
Option two is that we run a nomination period, and people nominate fics that either have a blanket permission statement (fun database here), or a comment from the author saying that fic inspired by their fic is okay. Then each fic is entered into the tag set as its own micro fandom. You then sign up as you would for a normal exchange, with up to ten of these fic fandoms as being something you are either offering to write for or requesting for your own gift. Once matched, you then write a side story, prequel, sequel, AU, or something else within the universe of that fic.
So for example, I had the idea that I really want to see a side story about Etho and Iskall in This Is About A Stuffed Bird, by Bee_4. I will sign up and request that fic as one of my fandoms (and others, you'd probably need a minimum of three fandoms), and meanwhile I’m offering to write people’s requests for This Is About A Stuffed Bird by Bee_4, Dog at the Door, Passerine by Thscs, Misery Meat by ReturnsNull, and Catbag by Supinetothestars (note that I, the person writing this, has not checked for blaket permission for those fics, so don't take it as given that they'd definitely qualify for the exchange).

And feel free to tell me your feelings in the notes!

Hello! I saw your post on asking ab ppl's opinions on the DSMP and had so many thoughts to share I actually went to my pc to write this, lol. Long ask incoming, sorry.
I started watching the DSMP in august of 2020, specifically right after the Techno vs. Dream duel. At this point in time, the Dream SMP tag had only like ten posts--not exaggerating, you would scroll and see the same few posts over and over again cause there was almost no fandom. I followed the series pretty much religiously all the way up to the prison break, where I then basically had to stop watching cause my life was falling apart (paying attention to streamers all day every day causes you to fail classes, who knew?)
So I guess I don't have a lot to say on the ending, other than it certainly was an ending. I think the crew did a good job with what they had, I liked the realization c!Tommy had towards c!Dream and what was once an innocent intention of server unity twisting into something else. I think using the nuke to blow everything up to start anew was a cop-out, but I also know (or at least feel like) the server itself was falling apart IRL and they had to bring it to a conclusion somehow. (Because of that, I knew the server wouldn't get a "season 2")
You mentioned how you liked it on a thematic level rather than emotional, and it really made me think about how my own interest manifested. I was certainly invested in these characters and their stories, but I only carried an emotional attachment to c!Tommy and c!Dream (and DreamXD, but only because I love deities in fiction).
I think, story-wise, the DSMP had many elements that hit hard, c!Tommy's abuse being one of them. During the prison arc, when c!Dream is being tortured constantly by c!Quackity, a large part of the fandom rooted for c!Q because c!Dream was an abuser and deserved the dehumanizing treatment. And boy do I have some opinions on that, lol. Because of the nature of the DSMP, I never thought of it as a teaching element, and your comment on that only being prevalent to children's media struck a chord--because, yeah, that makes sense. The target audience for the DSMP is a bit skewed, because it does take place in an all-ages video game, but the storyline and characters themselves would never get a G rating. I always considered the DSMP to be a bunch of people having fun exploring the different ways they can write a story/character, without any real end-game in mind. They did marvelous, too, in my opinion. I don't believe the DSMP was ever meant to be a literary marvel, or whatever the video-game equivalent is, so for a bunch of then-friends just throwing ideas at a wall and seeing what sticks with the fans, it did it's job.
People now, coming into the fandom for the first time, or looking in from the outside trying to analyze it, don't understand it, imo. It's not that the narrative can only be experienced at the time it was written, because no, you can watch and re-watch it thanks to VODS and recap channels. But so many people hear stories of it being a great time and a great story with great characters and then analyze it to put it on a pedestal only to see that its a piece of fiction with many flaws. Not understanding that the SMP wasn't created to be role-playing server, that never even crossed their minds. It was meant to be a place to have fun and explore a snapshot. That's not saying the cc's shouldn't have made the story in the first place, it's just highlighting how out of control the SMP got due to influencers' fame and fun writing. It was a product of its time because everyone was together, quarantined, exploring how far they could go in a virtual setting. Sorry, rambling a bit. I just think that a sensation like the DSMP can never be repeated on such a scale, and that feeling is why so many outsiders expect so much.
Hope this makes sense, haha. Sorry it's not juicy discourse, but thanks for listening anyway.
No its fine, thank you very much for telling me this!
I initially started watching I think right before the exile arc started but by the time I figured out how to best watch it and caught up with it, it had already been going for a few days, then I followed along with it for a while until I lost interest sometime after the big clingyduo v. Dream fight. Then in late 2022 I was at a local comic con and saw someone in a ghostbur cosplay and some people carrying around a big lmanberg flag and it just made me feel so nostalgic that I wanted to rewatch/finish it, and because I thought it would be fun I also made this sideblog to liveblog it. Im pretty sure dsmp was already over or at the very least getting close to the end by the time I did that, so it gave me a kind of distance that definitely affected my experience with the show.
Like, I think if I had kept up with it throughout (what i would consider to be) its decline and then had to witness that ending after all that, I would definitely feel more negatively about it, so I understand why it was upsetting for a lot of fans, but as it stands, I can mostly just remember it as an overall good piece of media that started stumbling towards the last quarter or so and then ended in a way thats fine, although not particularly satisfying on an emotional level. Like, Dream and Tommy's whole storyline was essentially about the cyclical nature of violence and I think ending the cycle is the best way to resolve that kind of story and in theory, having them make amends before they both die together sounds good to me, but idk, in practice I just didnt like it lol. I think its mainly because their attempts to make Dream seem more sympathetic were kinda too little-too late; Dream didnt have his own pov when most people did which automatically dehumanized him in the eyes of the audience, which was brilliant for the manipulative and unpredictable villian character that he was, but I feel like the CCs didnt really realize that that was the case and didnt feel the need to show stuff from his pov, when it was actually vital imo
You said that people coming into the fandom now come into it with these expectations and I think thats true, but I feel like people who have been following it since the rp properly started also tended to put it on a pedastal because of how genuinely impressively good it was in the beginning, and then when the finale was Like That, a lot of them were insanely disappointed. I also think thats where a lot of the discourse revolving around the ending sending a bad message comes from — a lot of people think of it as something very polished like an actual tv-show when thats simply not what it is or ever was. Its just people fucking around and having fun, and when people just fuck around, theyre not really thinking about "being responsible to their audience" or whatever. Take it from me as a writer lol, I have plans for ya-novels that touch on serious topics and with those I do try to be mindful of the fact that my audience is younger (although teenagers are obviously not children and already dont need to be taught via their media anymore imo), but when Im just writing a little short story I'll usually make it as fucked up as possible just because thats fun to me, yknow
#i feel like thats not really the best way to end this post but I dont really have much more to say#once again thank you for sending the ask ^^#asks

house post nobody asked for: house md characters if they had a minecraft smp. i wanted to give them gamertags but im not smart enough so if anyone has ideas please add them i will love u forever ❤️❤️ if u want to add later season characters or minor characters pls also feel welcome
btw i was not writing this with the idea that they are a youtube smp just a friend smp
lisa cuddy: server admin. not actually a huge minecraft fan she prefers games where you kill monsters a lot and build skill trees etc but likes the smp community aspect with her gaming friends. built her base in the nether. usually trades with people for supplies she needs instead of going out to mine for them.
greg house: Ass Hole. the reason explosions are now disabled. usually not online at the same time as anyone else and if he is it's to bother wilson into giving him his best gear (only to go throw it into lava). actually really good at building when he bothers to make anything tho. occasionally gives really heartfelt gifts to other server members too.
james wilson: LOVES going mining. awful at building bases. paid house to build him a base. with real life money. refuses to disclose the amount. he also has a huge animal farm. probably really bad at combat tho despite having really good gear. one of the highest death counts on the server.
robert chase: always doing something that looks cool followed by smth idiotic a second later. Slays a zombie epically then falls down massive hole. lol. only person on the server to have every advancement. mid builder. has like a little corner in everyone's home.
allison cameron: loves making intricate and epic builds. wilson gifted her a pair of feather falling iv boots cause he was sick of seeing her die of fall damage all the time cause she's always building high up with no cares in the world!!! she's just here to build and sometimes tame some animals!!!!
eric foreman: only person on the server smart enough to use redstone. not even like.. that complex of redstone he just uses it a little bit and everyone is like Oh my god ur a geniusss. he plays pretty averagely besides that. he does refuse to build his own enchanting table tho, he just steals wilson's whenever he needs to use one. also a big fan of trading with villagers.
lawrence kutner: Why is this man wearing a leather chestplate and diamond boots. good god. and is that.... a Gold sword???? this man always has something strange going on but his base is gorgeous and luxurious. Huh.
remy hadley: built the nether travel hub bc she was so irritated when she joined the server and nothing was optimized. also knows how to use redstone but hasn't shown it off bc she's amused by the way everyone treats foreman. someday she'll build some fancy resource farms with it and shock them all with her modern minecrafter skills. for now she's content with her beachfront base.
chris taub: not really sure how he ended up playing minecraft. kind of a noob. watched a bunch of videos but still doesn't understand what he's doing. tags along whenever people are doing stuff. house built him a base out of sheer pity and taub has just been vaguely building more on the back of it. it's .... interesting, to say the least.

same anon but i'm a bit dumb... was going to ask, what mediamates have you reconnected with and do you have any suggestions on how to meet them?
so ive reconnected with some in a few ways! personally, im alright with chatting with fictives and kins and counting them as my mediamates, and i have quite a few friends who kin or are IRLs from the dream smp! usually, i join discord servers(whether that be kin or IRLs because i do still kin other characters even though im cwilbur soot irl) and try to make friends through there.
i also have a tiktok where i post edits and use the tag dsmpirlsinteract and try to follow other IRLs and message them!
also, tumblr is a good place, i know there are kin calls, where kins, fictives and IRLs all send out messages to look for mediamates, and i used to message a lot of people via there!
thats my explaination on how i reconnected, but mediamates i have reconnected with isss
ive chatted with a lot of tommys over the time, and lots of quackitys(i used to sctivrly seek out chatting to quackitys but now not so much), and a few tubbos though i dont talk with them often. also a few nikis, i believe ive chatted to a phil once or twice(but not enough :(( id love to chat to any phils) and same with technos. i believe i talked to a dream irl once who was pretty chill. also a fundy, but wuite a few of these are like close friends or people i know! eg im very close friends with two tommy kins, a tubbo, a niki my bf is a quackity irl, and one of my best friends is a fundy kin(though bat isnt in the kinshift often) but i would LOVE to talk to more! literally any mediamates can reach out to me and message me here and im happy to chat, talk mems, and more!
when i ran moobloom, that(dc server)was also a place for mediamates to meet other mediamates! so you could also make your own dc server and advertise it
also, other sources that im happy chatting with mediamates from, in case anyone is interested
yttd
most bursonas aside from ghostbur(phantombur, simpbur, tommyinnit mod videos, rustbur, etc etc)
karmaland 4 and 5
smaller smps, like lifesteal, kaboodle
various anime sources(bsd, csm, jjba, death note)
so if anyone is from any of those, kin, irl, fictive snd you wanna chat, my messages are open!
but anon i really do hope that this helps explain! and if youre a mediamate from dsmp or any of the above sources, or even if youre not! if you just wanna chat, im happy to!
#im not entirely sure what to tag this as#mediamates#sourcemates#sourcemates interact#mediamates interact#dream smp#i think ive tagged this right#I LIED WE'RE A SYSTEM

For a few reasons, really.
For one thing, it’s getting confusing. Originally it started (to my knowledge) with DSMP a few years ago, where most (if not all) groupings of characters, shipping or otherwise, had “duo” or “trio” tacked onto the end of some sort of descriptive word related to that group. When it was contained to just one SMP, it made it a little easier to figure out what characters a “duo name” was referring to, since nine times out of ten, it referred to a specific plot point within the Dream SMP narrative. (Also a lot of their fanbase was on Twitter, where things had to be shortened and easy to tag.)
But SINCE then, it has breached containment, and now - instead of getting a creative group nickname or a mushed combination of the characters’ names - any new pair of MCYT characters is duo-ficated by default. There’s an overabundance of duos. Which gets HELLA confusing, when you see “Ohhh it’s the sand duo! :D” and you’re left wondering which of the billion characters in the MCYT sphere who have ever touched SAND is meant to be a part of that “duo”.
For ANOTHER thing, it’s sad that we’ve defaulted to such a boring and repetitive naming system when we’ve seen MUCH more creative options in the past…or if they’re not creative then at least the resulting name-combo option makes it more obvious who you’re talking about. (Grumbo. Scarian. XBralis. Quackbur. Though more often that not those are ship-related, so I fully get wanting to avoid that when tagging a post or fic.)
Hell, most of the time, even defaulting to canon nicknames is more interesting than the duo option! Lean on canon! It’s easier to figure out that way and can almost always sound cool!
Wither Rose Alliance. Team Rancher. Architech. Seablings. The NHO. There are options. And that’s not to say that “duo” doesn’t work well sometimes, because sometimes it does! Desert Duo? Great example. Wonderful alliteration, and by now they’re iconic enough that most people know who it’s referring to.
And at the end of the day, even defaulting to “Name OtherName” works great. That’s who folks are looking for anyway, and it alleviates confusion.
So - for real. Get more creative, or get less confusing. It’s more fun that way anyhow. <3
Guys...guys. It needs to stop.

LEAVE ME ALONE AND LET ME BUILD MY SH*T! (Preview)
Notes: So for those who like read my introduction and one of the parts that mentioned of me not updating or rather updating 'I update my stories in a slow pace due to school and having too much ideas to make.' Yep this is one of the ideas I got stuck with instead of focusing on my current stories 😂😂 but honestly this idea is something I couldn't help but write especially it is a Crossover of SAGAU (Self Aware Genshin Impact) and this is very much well known if you read the tags XD
But anyways enjoy this preview despite some parts might not appear but depends on my choice XD
P.S: Forgive me if this preview is cringe TwT I tried my best to make it badass for you guys
Also I had to remove and change stuff to avoid spoilers of this story considering this is a legit preview lol hopefully I got the preview right XD
Warnings: Mention of Characters Death (Don't kill me this is a preview please 💀😂) Swearing, angst, mention of blood and bloodlust
Teyvat
A continent that serves as the primary region of all seven regions.
Mondstadt
Liyue
Inazuma
Sumeru
Fontaine
Natlan
And
Snezhnaya.
However Teyvat also had another region or rather another island that floats in the sky above Teyvat its self
That place was called Celestia.
It is know where Gods are said to reside and the people of Teyvat thought of Celestia as a place where mortal ascend to Godhood will be in Celestia.
No one knew what Celestia was.
Only the gods knew.
But what they didn't expect
Was that.
Celestia
Is Destroyed
-----------------------------------------------------------
"What the fuck?…"
You stood in confusion and shocked. Instead of the Dream SMP prison, you found yourself in an unknown greeny land that you don't recognize. Your wings were ruffled and your chat was loudly screaming and staying still in shock.
"…"
"What the fuck?" One of the chat broke the silence.
Same thoughts and same words.
"Where the hell am I?!"
-----------------------------------------------------------
"The only thing that works in this world…"
A (f/c) cloak was shown to be in one of the standing hangers as the scene the flash to the outside with a crow flying above the sky.
"Is that your treat others as they treat you…"
Qiqi could be seen holding Baizhu's hand as both of them look at the crow that flew above them. You could be seen writing as a crow flew in your windowsill.
"Those that have treated me with kindness."
Diona gave you a drink she made as you patted her head, Razor recieved some headpats as your crows in the background taunt the wolves, You told stories to Fischl who became enourmed while Oz flew by getting chased by the chat and Bennett was being healed and bandage by you as you worried scold him that he didn't have to defend you when his life is in danger but he didn't care and laughed it off.
"I will repay that kindness tenfold."
XiangLing gave you food as you both talk about food and your adventures. Xingqiu reading one of the books you have with interest and Chongyun giving you Popsicle. Qiqi and Baizhu giving you medical herbs or medicine along with them showing you the direction of your journey and Shenhe defending you and protecting you from Cloud retainer.
Itto and Sayu helped you out of Inazuma with Sayu secretly showing you the directions under Yae Miko who knew you were the true creator. Both of you had a conversation in a secret area as Yae signed that her nation and friend have become blind fools for not recognizing you as the creator and following the fake imposter who stood in your throne being a tyrant.
"And those that treat me with injustice!"
You flew away from Venti's arrows before shooting him with fireworks which you cackled hearing his shocked of pain as you flew off quickly.
"That use me."
You clashed with Kaeya who struggled in parring your attacks as your eyes were menacing red when he almost made you kill some innocent civilians who are just trying to show everyone thag creator they know was a fake only you were lucky you see through his manipulation.
"That hunt me down."
You ran and flew from the angry mob chasing you from the nations cursing in annoyance.
"That hurt my friends!"
Bennett's body felt cold just like Razor's body that was bleeding though a hole that came from his chest. Amy was crying as you hugged her while your eyes then slowly became red feeling the bile of disgust and anger that they just killed two innocent people because of not worshipping their so called creator
And
For helping an imposter
'Fuck them!' you thought in anger as the voices appeared in your head again.
THEY WILL DIE
THEY WILL DIE!
T H E Y
W I LL
D I EEEEEEE!!
BLOOD!!
BLOOD!!
BLOOD!!
BLOOD!!
BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!
Itto fought against Ayato yelling at him for killing a young two boys for their treason. You growled as you your wings lifted up menacingly as you stared at your faker who smirked but then hesitated quickly once they saw how bright red your eyes were.
You wore your outfit and you spread your wings before placing your hat on your head.
"I shall repay that injustice a thousand times over."
Smoke filled around the area as Traveler looked around in cation with Amber readying her bow and Eula behind her. Jean and Lisa stood next to eachother until-
"AETHER LOOK OUT!"
"!!!"
You emerge from the smoke in front of Aether who was caught off guard and-
"Peek a boo!" You sadistically smirked as your (e/c) changed to blood red.
You went in for the kill.
-----------------------------------------------------------
"I'm just someone who wanted to go home"
He watched you look at the cold lake of Dragonspine in sorrow.
"The Minecraft family used to be what a family would be but"
You cried loudly as you held your mother's cold hand as you both felt your wings and saw your father's wings turn black knowing you both lost a love one.
"Mom succumbed to her death when my brother Tommy was still 6 years old that time. That day changed our lives…especially dad left with Techno…"
You watched your father leaving with Techno and you could hear Wilbur yelling in his room making you look at Tommy who looked at the two fading figures before looking at you with tears in his eyes.
His eyes held confusion and hurt.
"You won't leave me like them…right?"
You bend down to his level and softly touch his cheek, "Never. I will never will you my sunshine"
-----------------------------------------------------------
"I told you Ei! I told you many times that the Divine creator you have been working with was none other then a fake" Yae looked at Ei who slumped down as you could see her eyes swarming with guilt in them.
"I-"
"No excuses," Yae cut her off, "You knew you should have been suspicious when that faker suddenly starts throwing tantrums and made stupid executions on the people of Teyvat"
"…"
Ei looked down at her Dango milk in sadness.
What would Makoto think of you?
She did everything to make the creator proud.
And yet you ruined it for her and not realizing sooner that you served an imposter.
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Y-Your Grace p-please-"
"Excuse my language but shut the fuck up"
Everyone shivered and Venti winced at your tone. Your wings stretched before revealing it's ruffled feathers showing you are annoyed and irritated. Rubedo smirked as he tossed the wither skull up and down on his hand while menacingly staring down on the roof at Albedo who glared at him.
"Say Travel-No Aether"
Aether gulped and tensed up when he felt his hair go up really quick as he saw your eyes flashed the same red color that he almost died seeing if it weren't for Kaeya push him from getting his head chopped off.
You jumped off the hands of the Barbatos statue as you flap your wings down slowly before lifting up the wither skull in your hand.
"Do you want to be a hero again Aether?" You spat his name coldly.
Everyone felt the dreaded feeling again the moment they saw the same unknown skull that Rubedo had is now on your hand. No body moved until they saw Rubedo jumped off the roof and then-
"THEN DIE LIKE ONE!"
Two Withers has appeared in Mondstadt and that was the destruction of the City of Freedom.
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Nothing remains the same"
"Nothing besides remains"
You watch all nations' city, towns and homes fell into ruins and flames. Your black wings stretched at the magnificent sight of destruction.
You put the wither skull into your face stared through its holes that held nothing but you could see the TNT destroying more areas.
"Hate to say it but… you are right Dream"
Your eyes became red as you felt yourself grinning in amusement heard the same voices that you and Techno heard telling you that they are calling for blood.
“I’m just like Techno and Wilbur combined…But I’m the one who loves see pain and blood swim together on victims even more~"
-----------------------------------------------------------
"You just want forgiveness of your God not mine"
You looked down coldly at them.
"I'll bite I dont give a damn when I'm just a player who wants to go home and be with her brother"
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Like I said, I don't really give a damn when these people could have just treat me as a normal person instead of an imposter"
"They brought this upon theirselves after all"

Rules for new tumblr users
I'm sure people will have seen other mcyt blogs first and they've all given warnings but I'm just making this to pin at the top of my blog and so I can edit it when I inevitably realise I've forgotten something.
General ground rules:
If you have a default profile picture, blog and haven't reblogged anything, you will likely get blocked as a potential spam account. It doesn't have to be a lot, just search the tags for some of your interests and reblog some cool art or something.
You have to curate your own dashboard on tumblr. Search and follow the tags of things you enjoy, find users within those tags you want to see more from, follow and reblog posts from them. And if you aren't enjoying yourself, don't be afraid to unfollow people again (we don't usually pay attention to follower counts) and block tags/people if you really aren't happy seeing them.
If you want to keep things nice and neat, most of us will have a main blog (the one you get when you join the website) and then for any particularly strong interests will have a side blog. You can't like or follow from side blogs, but you can reblog things easily and people can follow side blogs if they share that interest with you. You can even make group blogs by going to the side bar of your sideblog and clicking 'members'!
Don't censor words, especially in the tags. You won't get reported or 'shadowbanned' for saying words like 'kill' or 'fuck' and if you do censor them then people who have them as blocked words and may be triggered by them will see them anyway.
When you join tumblr, there will automatically be sections showing what you've liked and who you've followed publically visible on your blog. Not only can you make these invisible in your settings, but we actively encourage it! People don't usually pay attention to them anyway but it's easier for you to like the things you want when you know people won't see them and judge you.
If you want to have a conversation with other people and get replies, put what you want to say in the main text of reblogs. If you're just trying to add a funny comment or say things without people responding to them, put it in the hashtags or as a reply. It means you can reblog things from other people without also having to reblog hundreds of people's random little comments.
Mcyt specific:
If you're gonna make posts, use 'mcyt' rather than the word 'mine/craft' when you're tagging. That tag is reserved for people who want to talk about the game and if you start talking about your blorbos in their tag, you will be told off for it. Same with tags where the word is included, use (e.g. use mc championships instead of the full name because it will still get picked up by the game's tag)
There are people in the mcyt communities on tumblr who ship and will post about those ships in the main tags. I'm personally not one of those people and try to avoid it where possible but you will inevitably come across it. If that's not your thing, don't make posts raving about how terrible it is or start harrassing them. If you don't want to see it just block the people doing it, block the relevant tags and move on. The communities here are pretty good at tagging their stuff using 'hermitshipping' for hermitcraft, 'trafficshipping' for the life series, 'empireshipping' for empires, and 'dsmpshipping' for dream smp. I don't think it happens much for dsmpblr but the others it's a regular occurence.
A lot of us (including myself) don't want to be noticed by content creators! We were here first and for the people who write fics or make art, they may feel uncomfortable posting if there's a chance a CC will see it. I believe Aimsey's now saying there's an 'Aimsey look' tag that they will go through each week so only people who wanted to be noticed will be, and I know we can't really do much to stop CCs going through the hashtags but just don't @ them in posts unless they're your own or OP specifically says you can.
No drama please! This is supposed to be a chill space and people moving over from twitter aren't going to ruin that. We've been here longer than you have, so you're the guests under our house rules. This is especially the case when it comes to MCCs. Leave Scott and Noxcrew be!
This is a personal one but please don't complain to me about buildmart. Yes I know people hate it and think it's unfair but I and other people here really enjoy it so I will simply block people who complain about it. We're all entitled to opinions but it's really tiring to see people shit on it once a month every month.

your tags are the eeverything ever im on my laptop so i cant sc them and add them to the post but believe me i would and if i remember later i will. youre so fucking RIGHTTT its the condensation of the story into LORE into 'big streams' or episodes and in part thats bc of how the fandom treated lore and how it got turned into a big Thing that has to be very Streamlined and its a Lore Stream (yet they wont. plan it 😭) and Aurgghhh its pretty sad. but atp id rather actually see season four retconning than have to sit through another HUGE EVENT ON THE DREAM SMP!! (DEATH) (DRAMA) and then have no follow up on it
TBH I feel like everyone being busier definitely contributes to that bc like the Burger Plotline was supposed to be several streams over which we would likely have gotten a lot of little moments and interactions that showed us a lot about the characters and that had to get condensed to a WRITTEN STORY...
So it would not surprise me at all if there was supposed to be a lot more in-between but it kept getting condensed into five streams, then three, then One Big Stream simply because it's so hard to get everyone together now. Like that's why I think they need to be wrapping things up because if it's that much of a hassle to get multiple people on the server at the same time then the thing that made the story so interesting is sort of already gone at this point? Not that it was only interesting because people streamed Daily but like, that sort of "improv lore" that Tubbo always says he misses can't really come back because nobody is ever online enough for it (and when I say Nobody I mean rarely any people that have been here long enough for c!Tubbo to have history w them)
So like I do think part of the reason that lore has been so sparse is because of scheduling, it isn't Only that but what could have been several streams gets condensed into one huge stream where so many things happen that there isn't really time for the characters to react properly and we don't get to see any of the aftermath because they don't log on... In a story about grief and humanity we aren't getting to see c!Tubbo grieve or be human much at all, because if he logs on it's either for Lore that has a clear goal in mind and not a lot of time for us to see into his mind or it's just to mess around and we don't get to see his character's thoughts/emotions then anyways ...
There is nothing wrong with "big event" lore streams but at some points it sort of seems like events are planned just for the sake of having a "big event" happen and not because they actually make sense for the characters involved.
Idk I know it's easier said than done but if Wilbur has sat down and written out an ending that he's slowly working his way through at like 1-2 streams per month I feel as though others should look to him as an example, like I wish they would sit and genuinely assess "How much fun am I genuinely having doing lore CURRENTLY (not in the past), how much free time do I have right now/am I expecting to have," & make a decision based on that
#^ also w the Improv Lore thing... ppl have said before that it was a lot easier to do in the beginning of the server when ppl didnt have a#ton of characterization yet and thats very true. but also I feel like the term ''improv lore'' has sort of been twisted into something it#isnt. like c!Eret's betrayal wasnt improv lore. cEret and cWilbur planned that. They didnt have a Script#and they didnt tell other ppl so the Lmanbergians reactions were genuine... but that was Planned Lore.#the election results were not really ''improv'' because they had different plans based on what happened. the festivak and nov 16th were#planned. like everyone wants ''improv lore'' but i dont feel like a lot of ppl including Tubbo realize that big lore events are rarely ever#improv. ''improv lore'' is mostly for characters having little interactions or doing side-plots. cBeeduo building their hotel was improv#and it didnt go anywhere..... because improv lore rarely does. its sort of supposed to be self-contained to a couple of streams and if it#isnt then you need to actually Plan how/why it will be relevant or it doesnt really go anywhere...#so to me Tubbos plan to ''log on and see what happens'' aka to try and do mostly improv lore doesnt seem like it will work#asks#negativity#this is not cc critical again its their characters and they know their lore plans and schedules better than i do#long post

Alright, let's do this. For the uninitiated: Dreamwidth is a blogging site that uses the code from LiveJournal (which is/used to be open source) run by a dedicated small company of LiveJournal fans who want to keep it specifically fandom-friendly. I have a Dreamwidth account, but I never used LiveJournal, so most (but not all) of the things I'll say may apply to LiveJournal as it used to exist at some point as well. Points below the cut will be mostly negative in tone.
It's just a blogging site
People compare Dreamwidth to Tumblr, but I find that inaccurate. Dreamwidth is for the most part just a classic blogging site. I know we call Tumblr a blogging site, and we call accounts "blogs", but that's a historic accident. In truth, with favs, reblogs, reblogs with text, private messages and so on, Tumblr is really its own thing. There are a lot of very basic things about this website that only work because Tumblr controls all of Tumblr, and ways in which Tumblr users can add to each other's experience.
Dreamwidth lacks most of that. It's designed to be a host for your blog first and foremost, your online diary where you record your thoughts in a chronological manner, and in that regard it competes with the likes of Wordpress (both Wordpress.com and self-hosted), Blogspot, Blogger, all the others and of course that thing you rolled yourself with PHP and MySQL back in high school and haven't updated since 2018.
Unique
Compared to these, Dreamwidth does offer a number of unique networking features that it can do because it's a centralised site, like Tumblr, that other blogging solutions can't or don't:
Discovery
Identity
Fighting comment spam
Community blogs
Discovery means that there are a number of features that allow you to discover other blogs, most notably a central page where blogs get listed by interests (that you can list on your account; accounts can also be made non-findable if you prefer that). It's kind of bad. The site is not good at merging things that belong together, so top interests include btvs, buffy and buffy the vampire slayer, or things like fan fiction, fanfiction and fanfic. There is no overarching hierarchy; sex and sewing are right next to each other, so there's no good way to drill down through the tags.
It's also the first hint at what is the biggest problem: There's just not that much stuff there. Scrolling through the list doesn't take a lot of time, and it's both telling what is there and what isn't. Firefly and Serenity loom large, but the things on Tumblr's top fandom things of 2022 list don't appear unless they're decades-old franchises. An arbitrary metric, to be sure, but I don't think a worthless one. If your top fandom wasn't relevant before about 2010, then Dreamwidth doesn't have a lot of stuff to offer.
But it's important to note that even if you do find something, the site is not very helpful. You get a list of blogs that have that interest listed, ordered by who updated last, but you have no way to tell who is actually still interested in that topic and who is only talking about other things these days. Maybe it beats Googling "Dream SMP fan blogs" or whatever, but it's still a pretty weak tool. It's no surprise that the community organises their own fandom events to just find other people, somehow, in the form of e.g. the Snowflake Challenge. But that's a thing you could just as well run on different Wordpress blogs that you follow with RSS.
(By the way, I've been using an RSS reader for decades, and thus "getting updates from all my favorite bloggers" is a problem that has long been solved for me. If you don't have an RSS reader, Dreamwidth does provide that following functionality, so I guess you could count that as a plus.)
Compared to all the different ways that Tumblr allows you to discover different people, either through reblogs, seeing them in your notifications, or looking through fandom tags, this is not at all convincing. As an aside, I'm going to say something very controversial. There's a good chance you're morally opposed to algorithms, based on the way Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr in algorithm-feed-mode work. Untethered, free-floating, designed to keep you scrolling, it sucks. But I will argue that algorithms are good actually, where they are opt-in. If you're interested in a new fandom or a news event or whatever, and want to find the things that everyone's talking about, the hot discussion and so on, then algorithms can be great for that. Yes, my main feed should always be chronological, I'll die on that hill, but for discovering things… I think Dreamwidth would be better if it had an algorithm.
The next big feature Dreamwidth provides is a stable identity. If trainsinanime comments under one Dreamwidth blog, and then under another, you know it's always the same guy, specifically me. That's worth something.
Dreamwidth also fights comment spam for you. I have no idea how good they are that, generally speaking, but they don't seem to suck entirely. You have no idea how much comment spam is out there, and how tiring it is to fight it on your own. You think writing your own custom blogging software with PHP will save you from that, but it absolutely will not, they'll still fill all your blog comments with spam until you finally turn them off. And then you have no way of talking to people anymore, except hoping that maybe they'll write a blog post replying to yours. You'll only ever see that if you have them in your RSS reader, though, because there's no notifying mechanism.
(I don't actually know whether Dreamwidth has a notifying mechanism, where the site tells you if someone else mentioned you in a blog post of theirs. I think due to functional comments, it doesn't necessarily need one. But if it has one that would be a point in its favour.)
Finally, Dreamwidth has a feature of community blogs, blogs that are run together. While that is possible with other blogging software, Dreamwidth allows simple mechanisms to let random users join while also limiting the damage they can do. So anyone can join the Miraculous Ladybug community and post there.
A problem I have with that is that posting is exclusive. If I write a post about what would be Adrien Agreste's favourite metro line (the 13, obviously), then I can post it either on my blog, where people following the community blog won't see it, or on the community blog, where people following my blog won't see it. So if a community isn't well established yet, then there is a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem where people won't follow it because it has no content, and people won't post content there because nobody is following it. I don't have that problem if I write that post on Tumblr and post it with the appropriate hashtag.
It's a terrible blogging software
I know there are people for whom these features are the key reasons why they use Dreamwidth, but I want to put them aside for now (as you can tell none of them were that convincing for me), and instead focus on the basics as a blogging site:
It's not a very good one.
Some of the code dates back to 1999, and it absolutely shows. The site has lots of vestigial features, like how "mobile" means posting and getting updates via email, because that was one of the better options in the times before modern smartphones. Most of the site is outdated and ugly. The rich text editor seems to be literally the same one as on Fanfiction.net, with the same tiny icons. Searches don't search automatically, you have to fill out a whole search request form. Icons for various features look like they're from 2003-era KDE or similar free icon packs.
Functionality-wise, the site barely has image hosting, and adding images to posts is a lengthy painful dance, so most people just don't bother all that often. The site is not great for fan artists.
Also worth noting is that the vast majority of themes are bad. The one for the snowflake challenge, for example, with its overly narrow font? Bad. Many of them are too colourful and hard to read, or have weird proportions, or weird font choices. Web design has moved on from where Dreamwidth is, and in my personal opinion, for the better. It is possible to fix all that by adding copious amounts of CSS, which I did; whether the result is any good is up to you. But most people don't, and they shouldn't have to. The default Tumblr theme is functional and modern. That cannot be said for Dreamwidth.
A lot of that is cosmetics rather than core functionality, but making the core of the website pleasant matters. That's why so many people were upset about the dashboard changes on Tumblr here. Dreamwidth's early 2000s interface only seems pleasant if you were raised on LiveJournal and appreciate the familiarity.
It's empty
I've mentioned it before, but it deserves its own point: Dreamwidth doesn't have that many users, so most the networking features it has are effectively pointless. The site is not great at connecting you with other users actively talking about what you're interested in, but that almost doesn't matter, because those users may not even be there.
This isn't a problem if you're only using the site as an actual blog, and indeed it seems to me that this is what most people are doing. I follow several people both here and on Dreamwidth, and here is where the fandom stuff happens, while Dreamwidth goes into how the month or week went.
To be clear, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It can be nice to have a quiet place to share thoughts that aren't just about blorbos all the time. But I would argue that Dreamwidth is not actually great at being that place, and a Wordpress site may be able to do the same thing much more pleasantly.
It's centralised.
Finally, this is yet another centralised website. That gives it the opportunity to provide some better networking features, which it largely fails at. It also means that you're subject to moderation from that one company, and if that one company ever goes under, you're out of luck. Dreamwidth's fans believe, probably for good reasons, that this company is one of the good ones, not VC funded and genuinely interested in providing for their user base. That's great. But on a philosophical level, if the site isn't doing anything that my private homepage doesn't, then it seems more logical to be free and decentralised. Or be centralised on a site that actually does something useful with the centralisation, even if that costs a lot of freedom.
Dreamwidth's old code base and their small company size means it's neither very good at being a social network nor a good individual blog host.
In the long term, I think the better answer is a decentralised, modern system that can also work like a social network. ActivityPub, known from things like Mastodon, seems like the way to go.
In my opinion, Dreamwidth only makes sense for people who have nostalgia for LiveJournal. It is not a useful Tumblr alternative on any metric I personally care about. I am not saying the people who use and like Dreamwidth are wrong, if they have fun with that site, that's great! But I don't think a mass migration towards Dreamwidth is ever going to happen.
What with the recent goings on I keep wondering whether I should post my review of Dreamwidth. I have a lot of thoughts about that site ever since I set up a blog there, but I always feel bad about actually writing them down and posting them. Everyone in the Dreamwidth fandom here is very nice and very earnestly enthusiastic about their favorite website, and I don’t want to be mean to them. But then I also see a lot of people wondering why it isn’t more popular, and I think that has clear rational answers. I dunno. I suppose it doesn’t actually matter that much one way or the other.

TLDR, because of preexisting biases and subtleties in story telling methods, c!Philza was set up to fail from the start. Whichever direction he took his character, a big chunk of the fandom was going to hate him. Props to Philza for choosing an interesting path and getting himself there as gracefully as possible. I’ll use everyone’s names to refer to the content creators unless specified otherwise. If you feel like I overlook or misinterpret anything please give your opinion in the tags, comments, or wherever else you like!
My first thought is with how he came into the story. c!Philza is the only character on the SMP to have plot points and head canons set in stone by other people before the creator even got to develop their storyline. He was set up as a paragon hero dad who would just solve all the problems in the story. To live up to that role he would need to protect every member of the SBI (and whoever else the fandom decided) from any form of conflict. That’s like if Gandalf flew with the eagles to destroy the Ring as soon as Bilbo found it in the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings just never happens. Sure, great, Frodo isn’t psychologically tortured by the Ring for three books, but where is our story?
That argument is only looking at the extreme end of the spectrum. A less extreme argument is that even if he isn't perfect, Philza should have tried a little harder to protect “his kids.” What does that phrase mean? c!Wilbur? He was dead, and there have been a lot of posts on whether c!Phil had to kill him, but from a creator point of view, Wilbur wrote that in. Philza could only decide how he was going to work with it. Philza had his character struggle with how to deal with those emotions and guilt over whether what he did was right. He tried to figure out what had broken his son so terribly and when he found the source he tried to stop a tragedy like that from ever occurring again. He still isn’t over it, but he has taken steps towards trying to make things right as he understands things. Tommy didn’t even know people thought Phil was his dad until either Tubbo or a donation brought it up weeks after November 16th. Philza has said before that as far as he’s aware, his only canonical son is c!Wilbur.
My only complaint about c!Philza is that some of his motivation feels cherry picked to end up on the same side as Techno. Can you blame Philza, though? Techno is the person Philza knows best on the server aside from Wilbur (who wasn’t actively in the plot at that point), and they love working together. I think we underappreciate Philza’s story telling skills in getting from point A to point B, and I think a lot of people missed how he got there.
Philza’s story telling is very subtle compared to what we’re used to on the SMP. Tommy will tell us every stream that his current motivation is to get his disks back or to build a hotel. Techno will give us soliloquies about his current feelings and speeches on why c!Techno thinks he’s right. Philza does some of these things, but he also frequently uses little aside comments and builds things up gradually enough that if you’re not paying attention you miss things. In addition a lot of the details are cleared up by questions in his donations, and most people who dislike his character probably don’t watch his whole streams. This leads to confusion about what c!Philza wants and why he does things that ends with people concluding that he’s just a bad person or a poorly written character.
The last point I want to make is the amount of hate he gets in comparison to characters with similar values (namely c!Techno). Because of the story telling differences even people who don’t agree with c!Techno have an easier time understanding his reasoning and are less predisposed to hate him. Techno also explains when certain head canons don’t line up with his character and is very assertive when fandom needs to stay separate to make the story work. There are more people ready to defend Techno because his fanbase is bigger. c!Philza comes with a more complicated backstory, and he’s an easier target for anyone who is upset at the destruction of L’manburg or that he didn’t come in and fix everything like they wanted him to.
Philza was given a difficult foundation to build his character off of, and c!Philza isn’t perfect but he shouldn’t be. The nuance is what makes him and his story interesting. If you dislike the character for his flaws, I’m glad you’re able to be invested in the story and I hope you continue to enjoy it! But there’s a line between analysis and bashing, and I think people could cross it a little less often.
#zablr am I doing it right?#I love character discourse#I wish Phiza got more of it instead of the two same bashing posts repeated#can we get more cc!philza love please#philza#technoblade#not tagging tommy#I'm sure they're tired of these complaints#but that doesn't make the complaints less valid or important#dream smp#analysis#dream smp analysis#long post#discourse#meta#I didn't even get into treating his character as more than a dad#some people only know phil through other sbi content and it shows#mt's words

Can i be enderman anon? anyways now that's all out of the way. God reader getting revived unexpectedly by dream? it's like - a really badass antagonist god that gets pulled out of the underworld, calling dream their "saviour" (but in a more satirical way instead of genuinely seeing the masked man as their hero cause in the past they've most likely called everyone that helped them their mighty helper to the point where the title feels overused and undesirable). They roamed the lands of the smp, bringing terror and hellfire across the overworld, letting their kept in rage stroll free. They end up in the tundra, the burning flakes of ashes getting lost in the harsh piles of snow. They happened to have stumbled upon the cottages of two immortal gods that they may or may not have used to know. Wonder what'll happen? i would like to see your take in this.
- enderman anon
AHHH IM SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG I DONT KNOW IF YOULL EVEN READ THIS STILL BUT TY FOR THE REQUEST IT ISNT THE BEST QUALITY IM SORRY :[[[
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You almost don't recognize the sensation of grass against your calloused and rough hands. You were in the void playing solitaire with Schlatt and Mexican Dream, and the next thing you knew you were suddenly pulled harshly by the back of your collar, falling on your spine. The looming mask of Dream is what stood above you, but he looked different. Longer hair, smelly, wearing a stained lime green jumpsuit with ‘0001' sewn into it and covered in cuts, scars and bruises. But before you could even question why Dream was suddenly there, he stepped back into the void, the void slowly surrounding and consuming him the further he went backwards. His now bony hand is still tightly gripped onto the back of your shirt, so while struggling your body is also enveloped in darkness. All it took was one blink and there you were on a patch of grass, staring at the pale blue sky.
"Huh."
Was all that came out of your mouth. You were still shocked at the turn of events that just happened, but no longer grounded. A running river nearby stunned your senses. How long had you been dead? It felt like years, but when you look around at the familiar forest you died in, not much had changed except for a couple newly planted saplings here and there. The swirling ashes you remembered before you died had all settled and compressed into the soil.
The river showed a strange reflection of yourself- your features have clearly sunken into your skull and there's a streak of white hair coming from your scalp along with words in fancy gold letters on your arm reading,
"May thy woes and hurt of the past no longer eradicate the upwards of this lost souls future. Allow thine to be praised by Ender themselves and be granted another chance at mortality."
Scrubbing or picking at your arm did nothing, so onwards you went walking along the forest to what you remember being a bustling "community".
Each mound of dirt you saw only brought memories of your death, of the place and people who sought to treat you like you were disposable. And now that you’re alive, you hate that they technically ended up being right. Your death; alone in a forest. Running away from the unexpected attacker, ashamed and too prideful to die in the prying eyes of your enemies. It fills you with rage, all the lives taken by your hands and for what? You weren’t overreacting, you knew that for sure. And before you knew it, you stole some fresh flint and steel from a random chest and got to work.
You had always wanted to touch the fires you set. The soothing feeling you got from watching wood burn to char and ashes satisfied you. And it made it all the more euphoric to know it was trees of your manipulator's land. Running across the land, with flames as far as you could see when you looked behind you. The heat swirled around your neck and went into your nose, but the feeling was muscle memory at that point. You were still riding your high when a voice reached out to you, luckily when you were finally calm.
"What- Y/n? Hold on, is that really you Y/n..?"
You spin on your heels to the familiar manipulative British voice of a person you haven't seen in a long time.
"Wilbur?! Man, I haven't seen another person's face other than those two addicts in a while- you look different."
His eyes much like yours are sunken deep into his skull, purple-pink bags under his eyes and dull skin. Wilburs shocked lips fade into an opened mouth smile when he walks up to you with his hands momentarily confused on what they should do. Eventually, his right hand settles on clasping your left shoulder, giving it a friendly squeeze.
“Y/n it is so good to see you! You look quite different yourself, wouldn’t you think-? Oh, look! We’re matching!”
The grey streak in your hair seems to make another appearance when Wilbur briefly smacks it with his middle and pointer finger.
“Ay, it’s nice to see you too Wil, but back up for a second alright? I've got something to ask you by the way…”
Wilburs head peaks in interest, urging you to go on.
“I’m guessing that little streak in your hair wasn’t a fashion choice- and if it was it’s a bit strange- but how’d you get it? You died when you blew up L’manburg! I mean c'mon, people don’t just, well…REVIVE!”
He starts to walk. You aren’t quite sure where, but stumbling along with Wilbur while his arm is draped lazily atop your shoulders seems to suffice.
“Ahh Y/n, you’d be surprised. The most WONDERFUL thing happened, actually! Years and years in my hell of a train station; do you know who was at the subway door when it finally opened, Y/n? Dream!”
“Wh- Dream?!”
Appalled, you try to stop in your tracks but fail when wilburs arm is still pushing forward. His storytelling voice dies down to curiosity and excitement.
“Wait, did he save you too? He did, didn’t he? Oh, this is wonderful!”
Wilbur emits eagerism and you suddenly realize what you could do with his desperacy to be socially accepted. Putting on the most exaggerated and animated voice, you speak.
“Oh my god yeah! Gosh, that Dream guy is my hero! Thanks to him, I get to have another chance at living again, and isn’t that just…swell.”
In all honesty you didn’t really try hard to sound sincere but by the look of Wilbur, it seemed to work just fine.
“Right?! I’ve been meaning to visit him in the prison if you’d like to tag along with me the day I go? I’m sure he’d love to see you, since he revived you and all.”
Oh, you were sure Dream wanted to see you. He wants a boon- a trade. Why else would he revive two of the most historically significant people on the server if not to make some sort of deal with them? Sure, Wilbur is as gullible and carefree as ever but you at least still had scraps of mental stability and level-headedness that made you all the more a force to be reckoned with. Not to mention Wilbur doesn’t know that Dream killed you, but telling him that now would blow your act. You decide to keep your thoughts to yourself.
“Yeahh, sure! I’d love to go, just tell me when.”
And that’s the end of that conversation. The two of you walk to wherever Wilbur is going. It honestly surprised you how he couldn’t see through your apathy. From what you remembered, he was keen on being wise about people and their intentions but you guess years and years in hell do things to a person.
Somehow, you’re stuck in your mind for long enough that only now do you feel the sharp winter air making the hairs on your arms and legs stand straight up.
“Wait, snow?”
The tundra was a drastic contrast to the void you were once in with schlatt and Mexican Dream. Instead of black as far as you could see, it was a blinding powdery white.
‘Mexican Dream would’ve liked it here, probably would have tried to snort the snow like coke.’
You weren’t built for the snow, though. Hell- you didn’t even have a memory of anyone living in a tundra when you were alive! Why was Wilbur even in the tundra? You didn’t have the energy to ask, still feeling brittle and tired, back aching from laying on the dry dirt longer than expected earlier.
“Yeah, just figured I’d show you around! Plus I already need to grab a couple things from an ender chest and this was the closest by. I’m a very busy man, after all.”
But why were there so many footprints in the snow? As far as you knew, Wilbur was the only one who lived out in the tundra- and he didn’t seem like the active type at all. There were strange shapes as well, large hooved footprints. However, all thinking comes to a halt at the same time Wilbur does.
“We’re here! You might see some familiar faces cause I live with people.”
Well, that answers the footsteps as well as the tall red-caped piglin hybrid giving leftover bones and raw meat to a polar bear.
“TECHNO! TECHNO, HEY!”
He tenses up for a second, you could tell he wanted to be left alone but that didn’t really bother Wilbur. But you recognize him. The name and the apparel- that guy is Technoblade. The same Technoblade who stood by your side while the two of you blew L’manburg up for the last time, and now the Technoblade who resides in a cottage shrouded in snow.
“Technoblade?!”
Hearing your voice being carried by the crisp winter air, he turns around immediately to see you and Wilbur a few feet away. Techno stood there dumbfounded, but he didn’t know why. He wasn’t particularly joyed or ecstatic to see you, but he was at the very least happy to see an old ally back.
“Y/n? Oh my god, now we’ve got TWO of you? We don’t have room for another one, alright?”
For some it might be hard to see the meaning behind his words. Luckily you’ve talked to him enough to where you can tell he’s being playful.
“Don’t worry, I’ll just build directly on top of your house. Besides, who WOULDN'T want to be near me 24-7?”
“Me-“
“Oh f*ck off.”
You would’ve thought that that was Wilbur due to the similar accent, but there was something off. The slight gruffness and age, yet still succeeding in sounding mellow.
“Phil! How’s my favorite old bird doing?”
He gives you a face. Not a happy one like you expected, rather a face that says ‘really?’ Probably because of the old comment. The two of you briefly hug, Phil’s tattered wings stretching out slightly.
“I’m doing alright, are you okay? Here, would you like to come in? It’s pretty cold outside, you probably haven’t seen snow in a couple years.”
He wasn’t wrong after all. You were freezing your toes off and were itching for lemon tea. The kind Phil used to make when he, Technoblade and Dream discussed plans on destroying L’manburg. Ah, the good ol days…
“Of course! We’ve got a lot to talk about- you still have that old chess board?”
“Yes, but first you have some explaining to do about the fire over in that tree, Y/n. You just got back and you’re already burning down forests?!”
“Did someone say fire?”
Techno has an eager stride in his step once he also looks back to see the raging lights of orange and red in the nearby forest.
“Don’t worry Phil! It’s just- ahh, a controlled burn..?”
Your tone of voice is unsure when a black crow shoots down from the sky into the snow in front of you. It’s left wing is charred and has smoke dancing from the burn. Philza looks at you with a stern glare.
“Oh my f*cking god…that’s it! We’re all going inside now, you too Techno. I don’t want you and Y/n going on a rampage.”
⭒☆━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━☆⭒
You sat up from laying down when you heard your phone ring. You looked at the caller ID.
Felix.
"What's up Felix?" You ask with a small yawn.
"Aww, how sweet," You hear in the background.
You giggle and ask, "Is that Sean? Hi Sean!"
"Yeah, we're playing Among Us and need an extra player. You down?" Felix explained.
"Sure, just give me a few minutes. See you soon, whore"
"Bitc-" You hang up before he can finish.
You got up and turned off your TV, going to get ready.
⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒
You quickly tweet out that you're going live and say something on your insta story as well. You start your stream and slowly watch people flood in.
"Hey everyone! How are you guys doing?" You wave and smile, reading the chat.
"Everyone doing good, awesome! And i'm sorry to anyone having a bad day. I hope i can brighten it a bit!"
"Okay, sorry i didn't give you a further notice. I didn't even know i was gonna stream. Felix invited me to play Among Us so... here we are!"
You quickly join the discord and pull up the game, putting a cover over where the code goes.
"Hello?" You ask as you join the call. A chorus of greetings came your way.
"(Y/n)?"
"Karl!" You smile brightly.
Karl Jacobs was a good friend of yours. You would play on the Dream SMP sometimes. When you would, it would mostly be you being stupid with Karl and Alex, also known as Quackity. You were even a well know citizen of El Rapids.
"LET'S GOOOOO!" He yelled, making you laugh.
"Hey (Y/n), do you know everyone here?" Sean asks you.
"Um," You quickly scan through the names, "no, i don't think so."
You recognized names but you only personally knew Felix, Sean, Karl, and Ethan.
"Oh my god! Your voice is so cute!" Pokimane exclaims.
You giggle softly, "Thank you Poki!"
You're voice wasn't high pitched or anything like that, you just always spoke very softly and calmly. You were also a bit quiet.
Felix introduces you to those that you didn't know.
"There's one more person we're waiting for," He says.
While everyone waits, you and Karl run around each other's little characters and make jokes between yourselves. You mute yourself to read donations every once in a while.
You hear the discord chime, signaling that someone joined the call.
"WAIT CORPSE! DON'T SPEAK YET!" Felix yelled. "We have a new player. This is my friend (Y/n), say hi to her"
"Hello (Y/n)," Corpse said. You were taken aback by how deep his voice was but you didn't show it.
"Hi Corpse! Nice to meet you!" You said happily.
"Okay, how is she not freaking out?" Bretman said, making everyone laugh.
"Uh, (Y/n), do you mind letting me have black? It's cool if not.." Corpse asked gently.
"O-oh sure, no problem." You were usually black with the pink flamingo hat, but you ran over to the little computer and changed your color.
"Simp," Ethan mumbled, knowing you never switch from black.
"Thank you," He said, then the game started.
The word “Imposter” appeared on your screen in red, yours and Corpse's characters underneath.
As the game started, you thought no one could hear you so you spoke to your chat. "His voice was so deep, what the fuck? Holy shit that was hot, i'm gonna-"
"(Y/n)," Rae laughed, "You know we're playing proximity chat, right."
You blushed as you realized and said "Ha, anyways..." and ran to start faking tasks.
You ended up in electrical with Karl. "(Y/n)! My good friend, my buddy, you would never kill me right? Haha..." He said.
"Of course not, Karl! My good friend, my buddy. Why, I'm not even imposter," I said as i quickly dipped into the vent and back out, making him laugh.
I decided to show him because I knew Karl wouldn't say anything, and it's funny.
"Oh that's good then. Are you sure you're not imposter?"
"Mhm, pretty sure," You said, going back in. As you came out, Sykkuno walked in and froze.
"Uh, (Y/n)?"
"Fuck... Karl run! Go!" You said, Karl starting to leave. You walked closer and quickly killed Sykkuno then vented to security.
"That was close..." You told your chat.
You saw Corpse as you made your way around the map and walked into navigation.
"Hey, Corpse, how ya doing?"
"Ah you know, good. Just being crewmate and all."
You stifled a laugh, "Oh yeah I feel that, buddy."
"Yeah because there's no way that i'm imposter. No way i could be faking tasks and there's no possible way you could be the other imposter" He said quickly.
"For sure. Hypothetically speaking, though, if you were imposter, how many people would you have killed by now?"
"I would say probably around two."
"Interesting," You said right before a body was reported. It was Sykkuno's. Felix and Rae were also dead.
"WHAT!" Corpse yelled.
"Where was the body at?" Sean laughed.
"Uh I found it in electrical," Bretman said.
"I'm pretty sure Karl was in there earlier."
You calmly said, "It's not Karl, I was with him for most of the round."
"How do we know the two of you aren't imposters?" Sean asked.
"I was alone with him, he would have taken the chance to kill me."
"No, he's your best friend."
"He's also ruthless,"
"TRUE! SO TRUE!" Karl yelled.
"So skip?" Corpse asked.
Everyone agreed and the voting was skipped.
The next round, I spent with Ethan. He was pretending to be mad at me because Sean said Karl was my best friend.
"What happened to Blue Boi Buddies, huh?!" He exclaimed.
"Neither of our hair is even blue anymore!" You argued back.
You were in reactor with him when Corpse and Poki walked in. He hit the lights and you took it as a sign to double kill. He killed Poki, you killed Ethan, and the two of you made your way to electrical to help fix lights.
You and Corpse went the opposite direction of reactor after the lights were fixed, Karl going with you.
Poki's body was reported. That double kill only left you, Corpse, Sean, Karl and Bretman. You only needed two more kills.
"I still think it's Karl and (Y/n)," Sean said quickly.
"I was with (Y/n) the whole time," Corpse said, "In fact, I think it's you."
"That does make sense. Why so quick to accuse others, Sean?" You ask.
"It's not me!" He yelled.
"I actually agree with Corpse and (Y/n)," Bretman said.
"I was with you!"
We all voted for Sean, him voting for Karl. Sean was ejected.
When you load into spawn, you wait for the kill cool down and kill Bretman, saving Karl.
"Victory" appeared on your screen.
"God damn it!" Sean yelled.
"Good job, (Y/n)," Corpse said lowly.
You smiled, a slight blush on your cheeks, "You too Corpse."
"Their voices go together and they're a fuckin dream team? What have i done...," Felix sighed.
⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒
A few more games went by. Most of them you and Corpse spent together, whether you were both crewmates or if one of you was imposter.
You really enjoyed his company and you actually got along with him pretty well.
⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒
"(Y/n), before we get serious, I have one question to ask you." Corpse said as both of your characters stopped.
"What's that?" You giggled.
"Do you know Bingus?"
"Bingus? As in, our lord and savior, Bingus?"
You could hear the smile in his voice, "It's settled, you're my wife now."
This made both of you laugh and your chat go crazy.
⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒
Eventually, people had to start leaving. You said your goodbyes to everyone and left the discord call and the game.
You set stream to where it was just your face cam.
"Guys, what should we do now?"
You saw some people asking what time it was for you.
"It's 3 AM right now... I’m not tired though.” You had been streaming for a few hours; You never even noticed how late it got.
People in chat were yelling at you to go to sleep, making you chuckle.
“How about we do a quick QnA, then at 3:30 I go to bed. Deal?”
You watched as the chat filled with questions. They obviously seemed to like the idea.
“‘Who is your best friend? Karl or Ethan?’ Neither, Alex Quackity. Next question.” You answered quickly.
You laughed, “I’d like to clarify that that’s a joke, i love all my friends equally.”
You answered more questions. Some were from new viewers asking basic questions, some were about future streams and videos.
“‘How do you feel about people shipping you and Corpse?’“ People are already shipping us?” You laughed, “I’ve said before that I’m okay with shipping, as long as the other person is too. I think it’s funny.”
You continued to read chat. “Wait, we’re trending?”
You checked Twitter and “#(your and corpse’s ship name)” was trending in the US.
You laughed as you scrolled through the tag, “Oh this is so funny.”
“Fanart already?! You guys are so talented!”
You read chat, looking for more questions. You saw people telling you that it’s 3:30.
“Okay fine, a deal’s a deal. I hope you all have, or had, a great day and I’ll see you guys later. Depending on what time it is for you, you should also get some sleep. Stay hydrated, love you!” You ended stream.
⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒⌒
You scrolled through Twitter as you laid in bed, liking fanart and dumb memes. Also replying to a few of your friends’ tweets.
karl :) @/KarlJacobs_
@/(your username) what the honk ?
*clip of you saying Quackity was your best friend*
You liked the tweet and replied, “karl no,,, look away,,,”
You continued scrolling, feeling your eyes get droopy. Your eyes fell closed but quickly opened when your phone vibrated. It was a DM.
From Corpse.
You two had followed each other earlier.
Corpse: hey (y/n), just wanted to say you’re really cool and i’d love to play again with you soon
You smiled, a light blush spreading across your cheeks, and replied.
You: i’d love to, corpse
Corpse: ok, see you soon ‘wife’
You: back at ya, ‘husband”
Corpse: :)
You: :)
On the whole trans! headcanon post thing.
Personally I have always been raised with the mindset "No until yes" meaning if somebody didn’t explicitly state they're comfortable with something, it's a no for me.
That worked out fine because I never really was into rpf, more of a weeb.
So whenever I saw people draw characters differently from canon I would just shrug it off and go "Well they're fictional, if drawing Hatsune miku black and ace makes them happy" and move on.
Joining the DSMP was a sort of (fandom)culture shock because the characters look and often times act exactly like their irl counterpart. Of course there is a distinction in my mind c!Tommy clearly is not cc!Tommy and people are absolutely allowed to headcanon c!Tommy (I think Tommy even gave explicit permission once?)
But I still get confused how to act in a RPF fandom?
(I also never really got in any movie fandoms if you ask, animation was always more of my jam)
that's completely fair, like I said there's nothing wrong with being uncomfortable with fan content for any reason. the problem is when people not only get angry at people who make that content as a baseline but actively Accuse those people of intentionally being creepy or boundary braking if not entirely accusing them of being predators. which is by no means a problem with everyone who's uncomfortable with it, but there's been a rising issue with it especially as of late.
however, there's a few things I think that's still worth addressing, even if these things don't affect how your or anyone do (or Should) feel about the content itself.
firstly, the dream smp Isn't an rpf fandom, but it Does exist along side an rpf fandom. it's a venn diagram, and usually that doesn't cause any problems but "usually" isn't all the time. there are people who Only are interested in the fandom for the roleplay, people who had no idea about who these people were Until they found the roleplay, and who aren't interested in their other content. or people who are just More Invested in the roleplay than they are with the streamers themselves.
those people aren't going to have that same issue, because what they Know are the characters. and in turn it's much easier to treat the characters how they would any other fandom. to project onto the characters and fill in the gaps of what their personalities are like off screen without being influenced by who their actors are in real life.
which can be a real culture shock to people who don't have that relationship with the fandom, who can't image having that relationship with the fandom. that's part of where I think some of the accusations come from, as I said.
but there's a reason why people have been trying to fight with ao3 to get an Actual tag system for roleplay smps instead of cramming them all under the rpf label (on top of the obvious sorting/Archiving issue that comes when creators are involved with more than one thing, as they almost always are). keeping the two separate is Healthy, even and Especially for people who are heavily invested in the cc's themselves. letting your feelings for the characters influence your feelings for the actors and letting your feelings for the actors influence your feelings for the characters can get messy really fast.
granted, there's nuance in that. there's nothing wrong with being attached to a character because of the actor playing them, it happens with movies and shows all the time. but it gets messy when people take criticism for a character the same way they take criticism for an actor. or worse, use criticism for a character as a sheet to Hide criticism for the actor. or more ridiculously, get angry with an actor for something their character has done in the roleplay. all of which are problems in other fandom spaces with more conventional actors, it's just more intense here because of the circumstances.
parasocial relationships aren't inherently bad, but they can get toxic if you let them. that's why people need to remind themselves of that distance between the characters and the actors even if they're invested in the characters Because Of the actors. including and especially when you interact with other people.
secondly, while I understand that notion in theory (and I Absolutely agree with it in this context in some cases) there's nuance to the situation as well.
these are their characters and they are actors. the boundary was looser, harder to find, in earlier on but by now most of the creators are playing characters and are aware of that fact. I think this is especially true for creators who joined after the server was more established, but as time has gone on the older characters have been fleshed out to the point that we can't argue that they're the same anymore.
we Saw the contrast between charlie the Content Creator establishing himself on the server and Slime The Character being introduced to the lore. charlie has a note pad of all of the information that slime has learned on the server so he can remember what his character can and cannot talk about, get in his head and figure out how someone with the information that slime has would react to a given situation. slime may be influenced by his personality, but he is a character who lives a life that he does not.
likewise, after being allowed to establish himself on the server for a little while foolish went whole ham on being a totem god of life (and formerly a god a death) and we stan forever.
even someone like tubbo, who says that his character reacts how he thinks he'd react in those situations, has experienced things so Detached from what tubbo the content creator has experienced that they aren't and couldn't be the same people.
remember when tommy died and tubbo wasn't in the right headspace for reacting to it? when he said he couldn't get his footing in the roleplay? it threw everyone off, people made fix-it fics and fanart and headcanons, because tubbo reacted how tubbo The Content Creator wanted to react and not how Tubbo Underscore the traumatized child soldier who just lost his best friend for a second time would've reacted, and we all knew that it was wrong because we all knew tubbo the Character. if tubbo wasn't invested in his roleplay, if there wasn't a divide between the two, then we would have accepted how he reacted, because it would've been consistent to how he'd always played the character.
their experiences are not the same and they aren't Supposed To Be. these are actors portraying a story and they're all Aware of this fact. the people involved in the acting are there because they Want to be. tommy, tubbo, and dream Designed the exile arc because they wanted to tell that story, and it was brilliant. part of it is their strength as streamers yes, but it's their strength as Actors and Writers that carry it as well. their natural chemistry with each other as friends makes improv easier to get into, but it's the acting itself that carries it.
now, that doesn't mean that there aren't Any boundaries, or that there Shouldn't be any boundaries, because that isn't true. and you're still right in the sense that the characters are closer to their actors than you'd typically see in other media. (though there is a sliding scale there, which I'd probably call the "charlie to techno" scale. some actors are much closer to their characters than others and it affects How they roleplay and how the audience reacts to those characters)
I have a hard line with nsfw unless it is Explicitly given permission (and of course a harder line for the minors), because you're right. at the end of the day its their faces and their names and that could easily, Easily have a different effect on them from other aspects of fandom. Any boundary that the cc's set At All should be treated with the respect that that deserves. wilbur said no shipping him with schlatt, so don't ship him with schlatt. it's that simple and it should always be that simple.
that said, there's a couple problems with the "assume no unless stated otherwise" approach, outside of nsfw.
firstly is what I talked about earlier, people abusing ambiguity or Perceived ambiguity as an excuse to harass people or content that they don't like. the dream smp wiki fighting over ranboo and tubbo's relationship status until a server admin change it to platonic claiming that ranboo had said that he wasn't comfortable with it being labeled romantic, which turned out to be a Lie that ranboo had to address himself. or god forbid the situation with knifetrick
people have been Especially sensitive with ranboo and tubbo's relationship in the dream smp, and it's not like I don't understand why. people have been shipping the content creators for a long time now, which has put a lot of people on edge (the assumption that if you ship their characters, or even portray the relationship as it is in canon, then you must ship the creators or are trying to hide the fact that you ship the creators).
I thought that'd died down as people got used to their canon relationship, but apparently not.
for people who don't know, knifetrick was a mystery fanfic written by relaxxattack centering on ran and jackie from the pit episode of tales from the smp. they were minor characters played by ranboo and tubbo who were, essentially, turned into ocs for the sake of the fic. being fleshed out, given backstories and personalities and placed in it's own setting, to the point that it wasn't necessary to watch that tales episode to get invested in the fic itself. it also just so happened to have a romance subplot.
people on twitter found out about this romance subplot out of context from fanart and assumed immediately that it (and the fanfic itself) was just a flimsy excuse to ship the content creators either despite or because ran and jackie themselves had almost nothing to do with them (being on screen for such a short amount of time in the first place).
it started with people just bad mouthing the fic and the fanart in general, with relaxx asking people Not to post fanart on twitter specifically because it Was getting that reaction and those assumptions, and it escalated into people seeking it out specifically to tear into it and its creator. relaxx spent months fighting back that misinformation, up until people starting making up horrible things to accuse the fic of to try to whip people up into a moral panic. the misinformation and smear campaign was too much to handle and they abandoned their blog entirely.
I'd been keeping up with them and they'd been trying to contact ranboo and tubbo Specifically About Their Fic just so they could have it to counter the misinformation and campaigning against it. there was nothing in that fic that was anything more than what ranboo and tubbo had done on the dream smp, there was nothing nsfw and the relationship hadn't even gotten off the ground at that point in the story. and yet they here harassed off because the wrong people saw it and decided they didn't like it.
which slots into the other problem: communication.
there are thousands, Millions of people who are fans of these content creators, all vying for their attention all the time. the majority of them aren't embedded in the fandom, and the ones that are aren't going to have their thumbs in every pie that's out there.
it's Hard to get in contact with the creators to ask them what you want, and even if you do it's hard to get across the entirety of what you're asking when you do it. do they know the full implications when we ask them about shipping? when we ask them about trans headcanons? I don't know, and none of us really do.
but the fact remains, the creators can't answer a question that they can't see and we can't ask a question that they can't hear. relax fell into a gray area because they couldn't point to a specific point where the creators had said they were fine with people shipping ran and jackie because the creators hadn't Thought about the fact that people might want to, and that was used against them for the sake of harassment. relax Tried and Couldn't get in contact with them about it.
and that's where the problem lies, communication with content creators is not the same as communication with our friends or our family or our coworkers. because as much as there's a gap between the creators and the characters, there's also a gap between the creators and Us.
moreover, they don't have caards. they don't know what they should say or what people want information on, and when they hear it it's often in random twitter threads or embedded in random hours long streams. very rarely will a creator set aside a specific place to state their boundaries for their characters because they don't know that they Need to. which makes it all the harder, because people will Hear what the creators say and then not know where to find it to prove it. in a random stream or random twitter threat or from someone else who'd seen or heard.
there Is a Very Good And Important blog putting in the effort to try to catalogue and source all of that here: [Link] again, that's @smp-boundaries, who is putting in the active effort to try to collect the boundaries that the creators all set in one place to try to make it easier to navigate.
but even then, there are things that fall through the cracks, and of course not everyone is Aware that that exists and if they are they can't always find the information that they're looking for.
they have individual posts that they tag with the creators names, but they link to pages talking about the broad strokes right at the time in an organized list. looking at wilbur's page [Link] it mentions that he's okay with genderbends of his character, and they source that claim with this clip [Link]
that obviously Isn't talking about trans headcanons, but is it enough on it's own? he said that he doesn't care if his character is depicted as a woman so it should follow that he'd be okay with his character be depicted as a trans woman, or as nonbinary. but making that assumption and providing that evidence could still leave you open if you're facing criticism like relaxx did, if you don't have word for word evidence that specifically what you are doing is okay with the creators when a third party doesn't want you to be making the content that you are. and even if the information is already Out There it may be impossible to find.
and look at the specific response. he doesn't Care. you'll get that from many Many of the clips that they source. they don't care if their character gets shipped with whoever or presented in this or that way because they don't have to See it. because it doesn't affect their character in canon and it doesn't affect their day to day life. they only happen to hear glimpses of it through people desperately trying to reach them in stream, through chat or through donations, entirely by chance whether they'll be seen or responded to.
that's why treating it like a black and white consent issue is ignoring the actual situation at hand. it's more complicated than that Outright. it's a fandom for their characters, and most of the creators treat it that way. they aren’t even thinking about it and they’re going to keep not thinking about it once this confirmation is over. that's why I, personally, think respecting the boundaries that they intentionally put down is the way to go.
like I said, you're allowed to personally feel differently and act on that with how you filter out and engage with fan content, just try to be mindful of all of this when you interact with other people
