i don’t want to add to the discourse but as much as people wanna argue on here about ace Vik and all that shit it’s honestly been really nice seeing so much fanfic and smut that actually acknowledges disabled conditions and makes accommodations for them like usually disabled characters are cast aside or their disabilities are cast aside and smut is written with them completely fine or they’re just considered unfuckable and that they aren’t dating anyone or they’re labeled as ace (which is a big reason why i don’t like that headcanon for Vik personally i think the claim for the creator comes from an inherent place of homophobia and prejudice) so it’s been really cool to see so much representation and no one ignoring especially Vik’s disabilities but Jayce’s leg as well like yeah put your little gay ship in braces together and then they kiss and fuck nasty !!

as the show starts back up again and we hopefully do end up going down the road of Buddie canon, I just want to issue everyone a reminder that Buck was nowhere near the first lgbtq rep on the show

we have had Hen and Karen and Michael from DAY ONE! that's THREE black lgbtq characters. and then we have Josh too!! we shouldn't just call this the gay firefighter show because of Buck and Eddie but because of the ensemble of amazing characters who give us lgbtq rep!! so why are we ignoring everyone else all the time?

I've been a Buddie shipper since day one but I absolutely hate that people who treat it like it's the Buck and Eddie show - it's an ensemble cast of AMAZING and well thought out and developed characters who get pushed to the side for these two men who, let's face it, may never end up becoming canon.

so can we PLEASE all cool our jets a little about Buck and Eddie and give some well deserved love and appreciation to the other characters??

back in 2022 when base game Elden Ring was out there was this one post on here dissecting Marika's JP dialogues but at the same time it's very clear the writer had some very harsh view & bias against her, which affects the way they interpreted their own translation. so the whole post read like a diss track against the very concept of Marika having feelings and depth & insists she's just a cruel heartless warlord.

that post went on to become the core talking point of a lot of ppl regarding Marika and how she didn't care for Godfrey & Radagon (because as a God she used omae??? despite ppl like Walter & Isshin also using the same word to refers to 621 and Wolf, yet they still get the grace to be interpreted as strict but caring old man??? despite it being a common word people at higher station in general would use as a formal way of speaking???? but i digress)

so today i come across the blog that wrote that post again and decided to see if their opinion had changed after the DLC... and they actually admit their view of her while writing the original post was too harsh and at the time they even thought why would Fromsoft write such a one-dimensional character ????????????? oh brother--- i mean im glad they changed their mind and openly admitted it... but that post already did its damage... man.

honestly every time i remember buck is canonically bi and is dating a man now i get so 😳😳😳 about it. like in our fandom sphere it's easy to say he's been bi-coded for years and joke with all the "wbk"s but i genuinely think people are missing what a gamble it was for ABC to pick up a show from another network and go this route with a main character that the majority of the audiences wasn't as percipient about.

buck's case is so singular imo because there are still certain - silent - rules to queer rep in mainstream media. the audiences are almost always clued-in on a character being queer early, for example. it's either shown immediately or mentioned in conversation in those first few scenes/eps the characters are established. if a character is not out, then they are not out to the rest of the characters, not the audience. if a character doesn't know they're queer yet - or ready to accept it - again, the audience knows, the story/foreshadowing is clear about it.

i can't think of a single other example where a main character - who's been nominally straight for multiple seasons - realizes they're queer later in life like this. where it wasn't planned beforehand, wasn't an explicitly or intentionally threaded storyline, wasn't just a one-liner saying "oh yeah ofc he kissed men before" ofc i didn't watch all television ever created in the history of television but i genuinely think this was such a pioneering writing choice mainstream tv hasn't done before. i wish we could all have been more happy with it instead of *gestures* all this.

BFFR you're comparing Rick Riordan trying to make his world more inclusive, changing some parts because of money/time constraints, or just making changes cus he thinks they're needed, to JKR being a terrible person!

The idea that all irl butches MUST be lesbians is ridiculous (literally there are SO many butches across all spectrums of sexuality, and someone’s gender presentation doesn’t need to fit into a neat box according to their sexuality or vice versa) but I do hate that almost every butch character in modern media is paired with a man. It just comes off as cowardly from a writing perspective

i really need yall to understand that we, the sonic fandom, have made up most of Maria's NIDS symptoms. in SA2 it pretty much doesn't fucking exist. it's not explored at all. it's just an answer to the question "what the hell is a little girl doing in a space station." it's a contrived plot device on a female character conceived to be fridged for a male one.

not to say you can't see yourself in her- lord knows i do- but what you feel connected to is characterization the *fandom* gave her, not the games. the hospital gowns, medication, medical equipment- none of that shit is ever shown in canon. we gave her those characteristics because we actually care about her.

shadow generations tries to rectify it- that was the FIRST TIME she was ACTUALLY SHOWN IN A HOSPITAL BED (and wheelchair) and i definitely appreciate the attempt, but it's definitely not enough to fix what had already been written for her.
