I think the choice for the name of the main organisation we follow in BSD being the Armed Detective AGENCY is quite deliberate. It is the usual term for a detective organisation yes, but there was the options of that word being changed to 'group' or something similar. To me, i feel like that they use the word agency also in its sociological definition - the capacity for individuals to have power and resources to fulfill their potential via acting upon one's will. This idea mostly stemmed from Fukuzawa's ability of 'All Men created Equal', which gives his employees better control over their abilities and, in many cases this gives them a better quality of life.
To further this point, i'm going to talk about each member of the agency I can apply this to (the ones with enough backstory to do so, sorry kunikida, katai, haruno and the tanizakis).
Atsushi - Atsushi has spent his life in an orphanage suffering abuse, and up until he's recruited is running from a mysterious tiger (that turns out to be himself). Joining the ADA gives him not only a more caring environment but also control over his tiger form, as per Fukuzawa's ability, and a purpose to work towards. These help him strengthen his resolve and he is able to work towards reaching his potential.
Kyouka - Whilst in the mafia, her ability is controlled by her superior Akutagawa, and she k!lls on command (whilst feeling guilt that cannot be expressed). Once working with Atsushi, she has a slightly more hopeful outlook on life and more knowledge of what life is like outside the mafia. The biggest shift is her going from wanting to d!e for her crimes to wanting to help other people, specifically Atsushi in the Moby Dick incident. The final step to her joining the ADA is her almost sacrificing herself in the aim helping others, but gaining control of her ability at the last second to escape as she's now a member and under Fukuzawa's ability. It gave her agency - control over her ability and a new goal to fill her potential as a defender of Yokohama.
Ranpo - the ADA was literally made for him to fulfill his potential with his super deduction. He doesn't really need Fukuzawa's ability, but he still needed Fukuzawa's advice (and a pair of glasses) to feel more confident in his deduction and his way of thinking. It gives him the resources to use it for good.
Yosano - after years of being forced to use her ability in war in ways she didn't want, joining the ADA lets her choose how she uses her ability and be valued for her kindness rather than just her ability. Her having this choice is key for her agency.
Kenji - his control over his ability before joining the agency wasn't as strong, as sometimes he would be taken over by his ability (Chapter 99/100 has the example of the mudslide situation). Now he is in better control of his ability and is able to use it for protecting Yokohama, fulfilling the potential he has in a safer way.
Dazai - The ADA helped Dazai with fulfilling Oda's dying wish for him - to be on the side that saves people. The role of the ADA is in essence the defenders of Yokohama. Dazai is fulfilling the potential that Oda saw for him, using his skills as a way to help others - the ADA members, the people of Yokohama, people like Sigma etc.
So in essence, the Armed Detective Agency is a working environment that gives its detectives their own agency, if you get my point.
[It was kind of difficult to explain some of these examples without repeating a lot of words but I think it makes sense?😭 Anyway there's another long bsd post on the way that i'm working on that discusses a couple specific characters]

How I imagine the Kunikida being arrested scene played out.
Detective Minoura coming to the Agency, Ranpo lighting up at the sight of him. Before frowning because he knows something is wrong.
Atsushi is subtly standing infront of Kyouka, but the Police Detectives eyes aren't on them.
Minoura saying he's sorry, that they'll get this all sorted out "but for now.... Doppo Kunikida, you're under arrest for the murder of" and gives a name no one but Atsushi recognises.
His blood runs cold.
"He didn't do it, it was an accident!" He cries but goes silent when Kunikida wordlessly holds up a hand.
He picks up his notebook, handing it to the second officer in command. And puts his arms out for Minoura to handcuff him.
Kunikida's face is blank of all emotion his head is down and he doesn't say a word.
Ranpo is instantly out of his seat, yelling about not admitting to anything until a lawyer is present. He's completely serious and leaves with them.
Kunikida doesn't look back.
And Minoura doesn't have the heart to tell Ranpo to leave the car as he drives them all to the station. Where Kunikida is put behind bars.
The Agency is in chaos.
Naomi is calling the President. Atsushi is freaking out and explaining to everyone what that was about. Because be was the only one there for it.
Kyouka's trying to comfort him, but also feeling terrible. Kenji is frowning but trying to keep everyone's spirits up.
Dazai, for once in his life is completly speechless. All he can think about is the blank look on Kunikida's face. Dazai knows Kunikida, knows he blames himself regardless.
And that this had all happened without him there to prevent it.
He shakes the self loathing away, going into planning mode just as the President walks in.
They were going him out whether Kunikida wanted them too or not.

okay like i said earlier, here's my favorite parts from my fic kldfjakldsfj (the one i posted a week (?) ago) that had me giggling as i wrote them so now i have to share them specifically or i'll die
its a lot tho lmao so scroll away if u must
starting of strong
(i am 100% gonna try to write a fic that's just this part)
"He briefly considered Higuchi, who wasn’t up there with Gin and the Jinko, but higher than say: Tachihara. But she was rather strange.
She was always all red and squealy; she had gotten an interest in boss-secretary romances for a while now, and no matter how many subtle hints he sent that that was an awful thought, she did not get it. Either way, he made the resolve to keep her away from Mori, as best as he could. It wasn’t hard, of course, since the chain of command meant that she usually reported to him or Chuuya-san, whom Ryuunosuke, himself, reported to. Either way, it was clear her sense of romance was distorted." "
/
"So he did what any sensible man would do. He hoarded his room with non-perishable snacks and drinks. Then he locked himself in. Unfortunately, Gin, the traitor, had called Chuuya and Chuuya had physically forced Ryuunosuke’s door open – by breaking it. And then he had dragged Ryuunosuke from where he hid under his bed when he first heard Chuuya’s voice. He dragged him kicking and screaming, dodging all of Rashomon’s attempts at freeing her human from Chuuya’s grip."
/
"“Cr-” Chuuya choked out, “crushes? What crushes? I don’t have crushes! In fact, I have a not crush!”
“Chuuya-san,” Ryuunosuke replied, concerned, “do you hear yourself when you speak?”"
(10 bucks and i write kunichuuzai whilst sskk drama is going on)
/
"He just had to figure out what to bribe Ranpo with. Ryuunosuke did not think the shipment of cocaine he had just dealt with during a mission would suffice. This was unfortunate as it was something Ryuunosuke already had in hand."
/
“Okay, sure. I'm only here because Atsushi likes you or whatever.”
Ryuunosuke’s heart started acting up and he made a mental note to bring it up during his next doctor's appointment.
“I don’t like you,” Tanizaki continued, aiming Ryuunosuke with a glare. Perhaps it would have affected Ryuunosuke, but he was still concerned about his new heart problems. Knowing he could be dying from a lung disease was bad enough, now heart problems?"
/
" The Jinko was wearing his usual stupid cat-boy business attire but Ryuunosuke decided to not comment on it."
/
"Ryuunosuke closed his eyes and for a second pretended that the warmth of Atsushi’s presence was something he could deserve.
When he opened them, he knew he did not. " (i sent this to like 3 different ppl after writing it)
/
all of atsushi's dialogue about feeling like an idiot for thinking he could be loved
/
"“ I will only love you too much!” Ryuunosuke shouted, startling Atsushi. “I will love you, I will take and take and take every single speck of you in my selfishness and I will never be able to give you anything that can even dare to stand next to that. In my heart, body, and soul, I will hold you and no matter how much you want to be let go off, I will not be able to. Atsushi you have to know, the only thing I am good for is taking. I take and take, and I will take and take until there is nothing left of you, can you not understand?”"
/
"“You misunderstand me,” Ryuunosuke said, trying to force the words out. It was better this way. “I ignored you on purpose.” "
/
"For the record though, most people have feelings.”
“I do not believe you.”
/
"“Akutagawa Ryuunosuke,” Atsushi’s voice was hard, “please refrain from thinking of me as a thing.”"
/
*copies and pastes all the dialogue from their (unnecessary) fight*

Thoughts on purple rangers?
I'll do the ones that are on the teams, and then a few bonus ones:
Gou/GekiViolet: A special brand of secondhand embarrassment that you cannot get anywhere else you can get with Gou. He tries so hard and yet... But I love him either way and people are sleeping on his history with Rio and with Miki. I think about that time he gave Rio a little flower and Rio just flicks it away from time to time. I really need to rewatch Gekiranger at some point bc I really do feel like I'll have more to say about him a second time through.
Yayoi/Kyoryu Violet: Very cute and I liked her episodes, though the Kyoryuger team was so big that I didn't really get into any of them outside the core team, as they didn't interact too often (such as how the Kyurangers are always together, the non-core Kyoryugers only show up periodically). I do like her dynamic with Amy, and I get her admiration of King, he really is something (I love him).
Shou Ranpo/Ryu Commander: One of the best to ever do it! I love seeing an older man as a fighter and figuring out where his strengths are and generally just finding his place in a fight where he's expected to guide but he also wants to fight. I like seeing him surpass his limitations and I just think he's a really fun guy who's suit is gorgeous.
Rita Kaniska/Papillon Ohger: Overall a very interesting character to me. I like seeing them open up and become more willing to hear others out and be more honest about themselves. I think their dynamics are great, with their relationship with Hymeno being my favorite. I do think that we should appreciate their dynamic with Jeramie more, as I think there's something unique there, but this isn't about Jeramie so I will not ramble.
Sakito Homura/Bun Violet: One of the best sixths to ever do it. He has a fun personality and I like his fighting style a lot. I find him holding value in trust and honesty to be so interesting and important to his character overall. He's a schemer, but he's not a liar and his trust is worth so much. He has a lot of determination and so much love to give but he also has a lot of complicated feelings. At the end of the day he just wants a good meal and that's just one more little thing I love about him.
Bonuses:
Nada/Gaisorg: I have such a complicated relationship with Nada. I understand his arc and I do feel it has value for the overall story, but at the same time I'm still annoyed about how it could have been and I just wish there was more to it and to him really. It's really that I like the arc but I don't like the holes that it left in the story of Ryusoulger and felt like more could have been done to make me truly care about Nada as an individual.
Stacy/Stacaesar: I adore him and I'm a big fan of his character arc. I feel like I may have a bit of a bias towards him bc I got into Sentai bc of him but I genuinely do feel like he's a really great character. I think it's nice to see the struggle of seeking approval and acknowledgement, thinking that's what you want and what you really need, but then finding yourself straying and questioning who you really want to be and do. It's just really well done and I think it works so well bc Stacy has Kaito who works well as an opposite to Stacy, but doesn't see Stacy as a bad person nor does he have no faith in him. I don't want to start on Kaito and Stacy's dynamic bc I'll be going on and on, but it's really sweet and important to Stacy's development and ultimate decisions.
Don Murasame: I'm so upset that Murasame's lore was not fleshed out. I had all these ideas about how it could happen and how the Don Clan could be the basis for certain feelings they have and everything, but Inoue never does anything with them beyond using them as a threat for a bit and then giving up on it. I adore their personality and I think that their fighting style is really cool, but I'm just upset that Donbrothers introduced so many interesting things that could have easily been fleshed out and never did anything with them. At least they get to wear a little bow tie and get praised for doing their job well now.

Okay so I found this au by @originalartblog and like now I have to make an au based on this bc it's so intriguing.
So like Chuuya leaves when he's 16, just he's younger he just turned sixteen, Dazai is still fifteen and he's heart broken after Chuuya leaves. Just heartbroken. He loved Chuuya, more than anything, Chuuya tye only reason he's still alive leaves him for dead.
And Mori is furious, Chuuya is one of his best assets, and who does he takeit out on? Dazai the person who was essentially the closest to Chuuya.
And guess who's just joined the mafia? Ryunosuke and Gin Akutagawa. They are the only two people Dazai is close to right now. But the worst happens and Gin is killed on a mission.
Ryunosuke is left with only one person he's close to; Dazai. Their both alone, scared and young. Their children. They cling to each other. They become so much more closer. The relationship never becomes abusive. They need each other. Dazai meets Oda and they are friends.
Everything happens the same but Dazai never commands anyone, he the second hand yo the mafia, he's Mori’s best man, he's called not the demon prodigy, he's called the demon's poltergeist. He's the most feared member of the mafia. Ryunosuke a close second.
Dazai’s fighting style becomes less defensive in nature because he doesn't have chuuya at his back. Him and Ryunosuke are one in the same.
So when Oda dies, Dazai takes Ryunosuke with him. Or rather Ryunosuke cokes with Dazai. Dazai doesn't make Ryunosuke come with him, he guve him the choice and given the choice Ryunosuke comes too. They go to the ADA together.
Entrance exam is mostly the same but it's also happening with Ryunosuke's at the same time, with Yosano. They both pass.
Chuuya and Ranpo are away, their partners. Dazai gets jointed in as Kunikida's partner. Ryunosuke is by himself because everyone else is a bit scared of him. He's the youngest to join the ada.
Everyone start to notice how good Ryunosuke and Dazai are when paired together on offensive and defensive fights. So while in cases that don't have fights Kunikida and Dazai are paired in ones with fights Dazai and Ryunosuke work together.
Kunikida and Chuuya are paired together during fights as well.
Dazai and Chuuya don't see each other for s month after Daz and Ryu join.
When they do its because of Kunikida. The whiplash Chuuya goes through is massive, Dazai just stands there and says,
"Thanks a lot asshole, be happy I'm not dead after you left me." Before he leaves for the day. That's all I have so far, other than, Chuuya is Atsushi's mentor not Dazai. So atsushi and Ryunosuke are rivals in a proper sense.

sighs OKAY THE THING WITH KUNIRAN IS. kunikida and ranpo are both arguably the agency’s strongest pillars, in the way that the agency was formed around ranpo and the fact that kunikida is second-in-command/next in line for president. kunikida has deep respect for ranpo and ranpo speaks highly of kunikida too. the agency depends on the both of them heavily and i’d like to see them shoulder that weight together
during the cannibalism arc, after the girl exploded, it was ranpo who went to find kunikida and encourage him. it was ranpo who reminded him that he cant save everyone, and that’s not his fault. it was interesting because thats how we see kunikida at first -> he tells atsushi this same thing. you cant save everyone. you cant save kyouka or youll end up both drowning etc etc. and the fact that when kunikida lost sight of this One Rule we know him to have, it was ranpo who reminded him again, is so oufhrjfhf
they also clash in some areas. kunikida who’s an idealist vs ranpo who kinda just goes with his own whims. i think itll be cool for ranpo to trick kunikida into letting loose a little, and kunikida bringing some stability in ranpo’s life. ranpo’s backstory showed us that he struggles with finding a place to belong, so someone as sturdy and down to earth as kunikida would attract him imo
also ranpo being a little shit on purpose x kunikida who praises him genuinely and makes him flustered. haha. FIGHT

Reasons why taking Dazai temporarily out of action (so people think he’s dead or lost) while everything goes horribly wrong would be fantastic for character development:
Atsushi will have to navigate mostly on his own and cannot rely on Dazai as a fallback. We can have an extension of his interpretations of what the people he knows - Dazai, Akutagawa, etc. - would want him to do as we saw after Teruko told him the truth of the DoA. Eventually, he’ll learn to trust his own judgement more.
I can really see Akutagawa stepping up and taking charge actually. I think he’s matured enough that Dazai being apparently “lost” wouldn’t make him reckless but instead more determined. I can see him being a lot more forthright about relying on Atsushi, and finding value in that partnership. “One last test” to see if he can fix something Dazai couldn’t - and at the end of it, here’s where he finally finds his worth. In the path, and not the goal, ultimately.
We might finally see elaboration on what Chuuya’s reaction was to Dazai leaving the Mafia. We are supposed to get that eventually, and I do think that having him think Dazai is actually gone might mean we get more of him in the main story. I’d like to see him with sskk, anyways.
It would destabilize Kunikida. They care about each other and they work well together. With Kunikida being second in command to Fukuzawa (who is not likely to be handling things well), fresh off of having his ideals torn asunder and psychologically screwed with by Jouno, the loss of his partner may result in Kunikida getting close to that breaking point Dazai hopes he never reaches.
Dazai being gone also saddles Ranpo with a lot more responsibility as the sole remaining genius of the Agency. If Fukuzawa and Kunikida are not in a fit state to lead, that makes the burden even heavier on him. I’m still holding out for a far more ruthless Ranpo than we’ve seen before, desperate as he is to keep the Agency afloat.
Potential reaction from Mori, or more Mafia information?
Opportunity to focus on Kyouka, especially given what might be a connection between her parents’ murder and Fyodor, as well as it being Dazai who gave her that talk about being able to change. Throw in Kouyou maybe, since she was the one who got the info on her parents in the first place. Please.
Reasons why this definitely won’t happen:
It looks like we’ve been isekai’d or reverse isekai’d for the season 5 finale. As such, we’re going to be jumping into the action of the next plot probably right away. These character moments would only really work if there was downtime between the infection arc and this upcoming one.
Dazai is Asagiri’s specialest boy

Day 1: Angels & Demons au
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FUKUZAWA who is the head of the Purgatory Hall, and was previously human—a commander who had killed many because of the blindness for loyalty he had towards his country.— No one exactly knew how long he managed the hall, but it was most likely decades. He treats everyone equally and sees that some, if not most deserve a chance to repent and enter Heaven.
RANPO who has been with Fukuzawa ever since he was appointed as the head of the hall acting as the rebellious yet caring "son". Ranpo dislike angels, especially their true form for he finds them hypocritical and biased, even though he is still an angel who followed Fukuzawa to the purgatory after growing tired of Heaven's hypocrisy. He left Heaven after the head angel casted out Akiko who was like his sister.
YOSANO, is a fallen angel, casted out by the head angel for nothing but a simple act of defiance and was handed out to the devil's hands. However, she was saved by Ranpo and Fukuzawa, taking her to the purgatory hall, out of the devil's grasps. She prefers not to have any interaction with angels as she sees them as hypocritical devils with light that fools others.
DAZAI who is one of the few who was given a second chance to repent for his deadly sin, eventually leaving Hell to enter the Purgatory Hall. He often goes over to the human realm to watch over them; sometimes even helping those in desperate times by giving them a blessing they are in need of. Though he most of the time played with some humans out of boredom, leading to Kunikida always having his watchful him. Only a few knows that he was once high rank demon in hell, that many fear.
KENJI, a naïve angel that visits every now and then, with friendship with all of them.
KUNIKIDA, the angel that the higher beings sent to watch over the purgatory. He sees Fukuzawa with respect. He often watches Dazai, after he gained the reputation of being a troublemaker. He often cleaned up after him, so that in a way it wouldn't reach the attention of the Heavens.

Oh poor me, slaved away to create such rubbish. (It's fic time again so as usual I am here to degrade myself for Tumblr)
sneak peek at
The Akutagawa's (Coming to Ao3 very soon)
Mysterious port mafia family bathed in darkness or the agency's newest members?
gen/ can be read as romantic or platonic sskk/other ships but is not a ship reliant fic.
tags: Canon divergent plot, Atsushi meets Akutagawa instead of Dazai, Canon divergent personalities due to canon divergent plot, found dysfunctional family, siblings being siblings, Atsushi centric, or is it?, happy ending.
The warning tags for the rest of the fic: canon Atsushi orphanage experience, Abuse, implied child abuse, Implied cannibalism, Murder, violence, suicide contemplation, Implied SA, human trafficking, sex trafficking, portrayal of street life (BSD style), I'm so sorry that is not in my list of experiences so I gotta take some guesses and creative liberties, The mafia being the mafia, graphic violence.
The Akutagawa's
Around the big table, the agency employees were all seated silently. Yosano, Dazai, Junichiro, Kunikida, Kenji, and Ranpo. Their eyes shifting between the papers on the table and the white board.
Some first assumed it was a joke or an error. Not that anyone would be foolish enough to do something so audacious, but the president was not a fool or a joker.
Even Ranpo, who was rocking back and forth in his chair and staring at the ceiling, appeared to be lost in concentration.
Everyone shuffled nervously for a while, then Kunikida, as usual, took the lead. He gets up from his seat to give the president his respect and speaks first.
“I’m sorry, president, but this isn’t within our ability. We can’t do it.” Kunikida apologised to the president as he bowed.
He’d been looking over every inch of the proposal and couldn’t bring himself to any conclusion but failure.
“I didn’t ask if you could do it. I’m telling you to do it.” Fukuzawa announced to the room. Everyone instinctively nodded under the pressure of the president's commanding voice.
Yosano stood up abruptly from her seat. Often the second to take charge after Kunikida. “President, it isn’t possible. This is suicide.”
She tried to argue her case without seeming rude, but Fukuzawa only sighed as he listened to the complaints of his subordinates.
“The abilities special division seems to think we can do it.” Fukuzawa sighed again and pulled out a folder from under the desk.
Compared to most of their case files, it was rather small. One could almost assume there was nothing inside it at all, but the papers from inside were quickly spread across the table for all to see.
“They’ve given us additional information.”
The detective agency's newest case was of utmost importance to the government, concerning the worrying growth of power within the Port Mafia.
Specifically, the ability user and assassin Akutagawa Ryunosuke and his family started to decimate every corner of the underworld over the past few years. At this point in time, they devastated the underworld as Port Mafia royalty and the mafia’s black dogs.
The thought behind such people, if the government wanted to deal with them, was to find a reputable assassin more capable than the Akutagawa's, but after an unspecified number of failed attempts, it became glaringly obvious that that plan wouldn’t work. No assassin could best them.
Feeling the weight of their brutal defeat and the count of their casualties by the Akutagawa's, the government turned towards the only other people they could think of to deal with this kind of job.
Their backup plan landed in the hands of the detective agency. To meet with the abnormal family and convince them to take sides with the government.
The special divisions unit is sure that the detective agency can somehow convince these assassins, of their own free will, to completely switch their allegiance.
Everyone was fuming at such an unreasonable request they weren’t even allowed to deny. The best they could do at that moment was look at the additional information provided and try not to roll their eyes. They already had the same details on the siblings that were provided.
Akutagawa Ryunosuke, male
22
DOB: March 1st
172 cm
Port Mafia solo assassin, all orders taken directly from executives or higher authorities.
address: Akuatgawa residence
street address: N/A
-
Akutagawa Gin,???
16
DOB: February 14th
???cm
Port Mafia black lizard commander
Address: Akutagawa residence
street address: N/A
The information provided by the special division was more or less the same as their initial intelligence, but as they glanced over the papers, they realised there was more going on than they first suspected. There were two extra names.
Akutagawa Ryunosuke
Akutagawa Gin
Akutagawa-Kyouka Izumi
Akutagawa??? Initial A.A.
Akutagawa-Izumi Kyouka
16
DOB: November 4th
???cm
Unknown occupation
Address: Akutagawa residence
Street address: N/A
Akutagawa-Kyouka Izumi was formally known as Kyouka Izumi until the age of 14, after her parents were murdered. She disappeared from any record for several months, until her sudden name changed to Akutagawa-Kyouka after being adopted by a fake couple under an alias. Despite this, her public record shows her real name and not the alias of the family that adopted her, as stated on the adoption records.
A.A. (Akutagawa ???)
There is no available identification.
The pure existence of there being a fourth person is plain scepticism born from rumours between mafia members low-ranking and executives alike. At this moment and time, they are a ghost, created by convincing rumours starting a year ago. A Port Mafia squad, under the instruction of Akutagawa, witnessed a mysterious person with a seemingly close relationship to the squad leader take out an enemy organisation on their behalf. No one could see what they looked like due to them being covered in Akuatgawa’s ability, Rashoumon.
If the existence of this person is proven to be true, do not, under any circumstances, approach the dangerous individual. If said rumours are to be trusted, making contact will result in death.
chapter 1/6
This is the calm before the storm.

Hiiii ( ノ^ω^)ノ
Firstly, AHHHHHHHH I'm so glad you're watching Bungou Stray Dogs and you're enjoying it!!!
Secondly, I'm very curious about your favorite characters and ships from BSD 🧐
omg hiiii!! thank you for popping by the inbox 🥺
i was actually *just* looking thru my bsd tag (cause i wanted to see what i'd reblogged before without having watched it yet) and i saw that i reblogged a skk art from you in april of last year and tagged "i seriously should start this soon." lo and behold, it took a good 9 months before i actually did... (it's like haikyuu all over again with the horrible turnaround time) 😩 but better late than never!
i think i put off on starting it because my sister and one of my other friends told me they tried it and couldn't get into it. but once i started i was immediately in love!! i knew dazai was gonna be like gojo where like the handsome slightly older mentor guy kinda steals the show (i remember when i first started seeing bsd around the internet, the only memorable character was dazai. like i didn't even know who atsushi was) but yeah the dynamic between kunikida and dazai even in the first episode was sooo funny i was so confused as to how my sister and my friend dropped it?? i could've been hyperfixating and scouring the web for bsd content this whole time if i'd started earlier bruh i'm so mad
i'm trying not to overwhelm the dash with all my bsd posting but my queue has been 200+ posts since finishing the show a few weeks ago and over half of it is bsd. i thought i'd get through it faster actually since each season only has around 12 eps and there's only one movie, but i'm glad i took the time to savor all of it because it's *chef's kiss*
sorry i hate to be that recipe page that goes into a full backstory before getting into the actual recipe BUT this is indeed a loaded question. so hard because i love a lot of the characters but of course some more than others. will try to be brief with explanations but no promises lol
characters
absolutely love
ranpo: he is a talented, smart boy and he knows it!! his unapologetic-ness about who he is is so lovable. i can't believe this guy is also levi from aot 💀 there's definitely a resemblance with takeda-sensei though. but anyway, character design is top tier, his personality might be considered annoying to some but i enjoy how unconventional he is and he absolutely deserves all the respect and love he gets!!
chuuya: he's so cool when you first get introduced to him and the chemistry with dazai is insane. the back track they play for corruption is uNmatCHED. truly enhances his vibe 10x (he is so cool ahhh 😭). i might also be biased because he has the same va as jean from aot who i'm also in love with so there's that but he's such a fiery character and he stands out. i enjoy his character so much i can't really explain it
sigma: i kept seeing this name before i got to know him in S5 and i always thought he was going to be a major villain but he's actually so relatable??? like the anxiety, the lack of direction/purpose he feels in life, the desire to have something to protect, the wanting to belong somewhere. confused 90% of the time. this man just needs a hug, some direction, and a real friend. i love his color palette, the half-white, half-lavender is so pretty (they're some of my fav colors so)
really like
kunikida: a good man. gives me nanami vibes. a single mom who works two jobs and probably one of the only reasons the ADA can stay in business lmao. well-deserved second-in-command position. high standards for everyone and for himself which i appreciate. does what's right even when the world is working against him. where are the guys like him irl 😭
dazai: the most unserious man on the planet but somehow has one of the most op abilities. gojo energy for sure. but the person he became after odasaku is so admirable. i love how even though he is mostly a clown, he still plays his part (which happens to be huge in the org) and takes being a good person seriously
yosano: a badass, but not uncaring at all. she's seen some horrible shit, but i love how she was able to work through all the trauma that she endured (when she was literally!! a preteen!!) and still came out the other side a wonderful human being. i'm glad she had the ADA and all the support they gave to help her heal properly. the butterflies are such a beautiful motif for her. she deserves the world honestly
kenji: my son. he is so cute and wholesome. he is a simple boy with a simple way of life and it's so funny to me that the ADA is like a side gig for him. my favorite country bumpkin <3
fukuzawa: father to everyone in the agency basically. i think his integrity, strength in his beliefs, and ability to uphold his ideals makes people naturally gravitate toward him, and thus what makes him an optimal leader. i loved his backstory and the introspection he did to realize he needed to change. and how taking in ranpo was the catalyst for a very symbiotic and lovely relationship. he is caring and despite having seen/done many horrible things, he never lets go of his humanity, but instead wants to protect others because of it. i appreciate that
edgar allan poe: just a fanboy at heart. it's so funny to me how he has all these resources and is actually so powerful because of his ability, his connections, and his smarts, but at the end of the day, he mostly just wants to hang out with karl and ranpo 😭 the social anxiety is also relatable (getting scared at his own phone ringing cause "no one ever calls me" is such a mood) LMAO
hirotsu: a man of few words but large presence. i think he's the type of guy who does bad things but deep down is a good person. and he's loyal to the org but mostly to those he grows to care about. i also like his voice a lot!! could literally lull me to sleep, it's very relaxing
mori: i don't love his ability/whatever the situation is with the little girl elise, and i also don't condone a lot of the things we learned about his past (and ESP his abuse of yosano) BUT. i think he's a very interesting character and definitely a charismatic and effective leader. he's smart and thinks about things carefully. ultimately, his understanding and beliefs about what a leader is is what gets him the respect of all those in the port mafia and i respect that too. i also enjoy how he's voiced!! i think his va does a great job of portraying his calm demeanor/calculating nature. he understands proper bedside manner i suppose
like but only in dynamic with others
kyoka (with atsushi): the cutest!! but i feel like other than like her initiation where she does show some personality (and violent tendencies lmao), after she officially joins the agency, she's mostly just atsushi's sidekick who may or may not have a crush on him. but i love how much they care for each other. i feel like it's neither romantic nor platonic, but like both? but also neither. a secret third thing LMAO
bram (with the lil girl aya): i recognized nanami's va immediately!! and the situation he was in when we first meet him is tragic but also sooo funny 😭 i'm pretty sure one of the first bsd things i reblogged was of him and this scene lmao. i don't feel any sort of way about him, but when i saw how he interacted with the little girl 🥺 ahhh
fyodor (with dazai): he's what i would deem a psychopath, and probably what dazai could've been if he continued doing bad stuff. but i also feel like he's a lot more sinister and ruthless than dazai, so when they're having conversations in their shared jail cell it's so funny because they talk so casually about really messed up things, but also kinda creepy because of how deep they can get into each other's minds (because their brains are cut from the same cloth)
atsushi/akutagawa: individually, i am okay with both of them but i'm not in love with them or anything. put together, i still don't see dazai's vision of them being the "new twin dark" but it is pretty cool to see when they do cooperate with one another (on the very rare occasion lol). although i feel like it's mostly akutagawa that's unwillling. idk if it's just the animation style but their character designs look kinda similar?? in terms of build and face at least. the symmetry and the red/black and blue/white contrast in the show does scratch an itch for me though. it's so satisfying to see them fight together
jono/tecchou: at first i didn't understand these two,,.,. and i wasn't a fan of jono cause he was weirdly sadistic?? which sucked cause i normally love the characters his va plays. but yeah i couldn't get a read on this guy and he was also oddly sinister and unlikable imo. and tecchou is just a himbo. like REALLY stupid (which is kinda funny, but also like damn if this man was left stranded on an island by himself or something he would die within a day. zero common sense or survival instinct [unless it comes to fighting of course]). after tecchou's confession about jono though, and him conceding to kenji, and ALSO jono defying his superior to do the right thing (was not expecting that given his personality.,,.), i warmed up to both of them a little bit more. seems like they do care about each other after all (despite jono's outward distaste towards tecchou lmao)
in terms of ships!! other than chuuya and dazai (there is simply no heterosexual explanation for their relationship. i was watching dead apple and my sister happened to be hanging around so she caught the part where chuuya comes back to punch dazai in the face to save him and she was just floored at how gay that whole thing was), i don't ship anyone super hardcore. one thing i love is that all the characters have really good dynamics with each other, and i really enjoy the playful nature that the ADA has within themselves but also with others outside the organization (except kunikida and fukuzawa, of course, who are pretty serious. but they have all my respect for being the parents that hold down the fort)
ships/dynamics
chuuya/dazai: see above. when we first meet chuuya, the two of them already give off such divorced energy i just. love them (as does everyone else lmao). their fighting chemistry is unmatched because they know each other like the back of their own hands. it drives me insane
kunikida/dazai: very obvious they have a typical bickering kind of dynamic but after seeing how well they work together despite their very different personalities, 1) so much respect to kunikida for putting up with dazai's bullshit on the daily and 2) i don't really see them as being personal friends per se, but their relationship is a lot deeper than that of just coworkers. seeing the respect they have for each other and them being able to recognize each other's strengths and weaknesses and predict their actions in high pressure situations is so uGHSDLKJE
fyodor/dazai: they match each other's freak in the worst ways. like it's scary but also fascinating at the same time. the fact that their character designs are also really similar just makes for a very entertaining watch. when sigma was like "oh god am i the only normal one in this room" i laughed sooo hard. cause he really was the only one there who wasn't insane 😭 fyodor/dazai's va's are also doma (upper 2) and akaza (upper 3) in demon slayer so it's just crazy to hear their dialogue but in such a different context
ranpo/fukuzawa: fukuzawa is ranpo's father i don't care what anyone else says. their backstory episodes were some of the first i went back to rewatch because i loved their dynamic and the ADA origin story so much. they really did have what the other person needed and it was so satisfying to see fukuzawa gain perspective and meaning in his life again (thru being ranpo's guardian figure), and to see ranpo receive some guidance and care through someone who cares about him after his own parents were no longer in the picture. they have such a great personal relationship but also work really well together and it's just so wholesome
ranpo/yosano: THEY!! i know the entire ADA is basically found family for everyone but in my mind, ranpo and yosano are the special son/daughter duo that fukuzawa specifically adopted/raised essentially. both of their backstories about how they were recruited into the ADA are so touching, esp his involvement in hers. i always saw ranpo as autistic (which explains his lack of tact sometimes) but despite that, he treated yosano with such care when they were trying to get her to join like. it was so moving i almost cried when i watched the first time. when i rewatched again i cried fr. to be clear i don't ship them romantically, i think they're closer to siblings tbh but either way they are so special to me and deserve all the love in the world
ranpo/poe: i really love how we very quickly find out that poe is not some evil enemy mastermind but just a major ranpo fanboy. and then they become besties and go on adventures and engage in shenanigans together
atsushi/akutagawa: like i mentioned earlier, this duo came out of left field for me personally. like i had no idea they would later be forced to work together when i initially started watching. tbh i still don't completely see the chemistry but i get whiffs of it here and there and i'm like okay... i can kind of picture dazai's vision-ish... but i think i still need some convincing. the visuals for both of them in the show, however, are spectacular. symmetry, color(/palette) contrast are >>>>
kenji/tecchou: they are literally the "wanna be friends?" "okay" dynamic come to life. they're both such simple human beings like. pure of heart, dumb of ass. it's so unexpected but it totally works
jono/tecchou: see above. i feel like on jono's side, their relationship dynamic is a reluctant kind of companionship lmao. maybe akin to that of siblings? whereas for tecchou, i think he just likes jono mostly because they are the only ones in their group that are equals (tachihara too i guess kinda but he's away most of the time so they don't work together a lot), he needs jono's guidance (because he is dumb), and he doesn't mind jono's company. he's a bit like a puppy in that regard. that's just my take on it at least
bram/lil girl: they were so cute together. i love how soft he is with her and how protective of her he becomes as the plot progresses. and i love how she doesn't see him as any different from anyone else (despite him being literally half a body connected to a sword) and how from him, she gets the validation that she so desperately seeks. they are so <3
yosano/tachihara: they didn't really get much interaction other than the confrontation part about her being the one who "killed" her brother but like... surely he thought about it some more right? like she was literally 11 and held there against her will. no different than the brother himself. and her mental state was deteriorating just as bad as the actual soldiers on the battlefield. it makes me so mad that tachihara blames it on her entirely. not necessarily a dynamic i enjoyed but i would've liked to see more of them after that whole arc. especially since he ended up sparing her anyway (though i don't think she deserved death and i don't think he gets to decide whether or not to punish her with death for what happened to his brother??). i think yosano deserves an apology if anything. or at least a chance to hash things out with tachihara. maybe they could've been friends idk
as always, i welcome your thoughts and commentary but understand that essays require quite a bit of mental energy to process so. definitely feel free to add your fav characters and ships!! i know skk and sskk and ranpoe are some of your go-to's since i've seen your reblogs about them, but i'm curious to know if there are any more characters/dynamics you enjoy that aren't brought up as much in fandom!
i'm very glad i started the show. even if not as much or as often as other fandoms on my dash, seeing bsd consistently definitely piqued/maintained my interest in watching and i knew i'd be in for a good time once i stepped in so thank YOU for that!! and thanks for the ask <3

short ramble but i can't be the only one who's going absolutely /crazy/ over the suspense for agatha christie's appearance, in bungou stray dogs right? (。_°)☆
(warning: spoilers, theories and my takes on her by the way !!)
i mean, she was introduced /so/ early on in the series (in the end of the third volume, chapter 12: rashōmon and the tiger) alongside dostoevsky and fitzgerald, in that order. fitzgerald was the first to make a proper appearance with the guild, before moving onto the currently on-going conflict with Fyodor and his many connections with numerous organisations, the rats in the house of the dead, the alliance with dazai and shibusawa during dead apple, the decay of angels, so on and so forth. it would only make sense that agatha comes next as the third, and potentially final, big antagonist of BSD.
so far, she's made minimal appearances, i've counted two times she was actually on screen, but each and every time she is /so/ cold with it. Just take a look at her first appearance, for instance:
Tumblr media
quite clearly she's in a position of power and influence where talk of the pursuit of the book itself and a seven billion yen bounty tiger connected to it is hardly considered an 'adversary worth dirtying [her] handwear over.'
her second main appearance was in the dead apple movie and manga, chapter 14.2 while making a call to the special division for unusual powers (idk how to make scans and couldn't find any online past vol 3, sorry (シ_ _)シ):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HELLO?? essentially, 'my condolences for the current affairs and ongoings in your city (。•́︿•̀。), regardless, we'll be burning it down by sunrise d(^_^o)'
/clearly/ she's got a lot of influence in the world of abilities; especially considering how it's the order of the clock tower who was in possession of the one order—one of the three great calamities as a product of the great war, mind you—to be sent out to stop the vampire apocalypse in season 5. and agatha's a /dame/ in that organisation: a knight commander. she /has/ to be influential (。 >艸<)
\\ another little note, and my personal speculation, but when ranpo stated at the meeting in episode 55 (season 5, episode 5): at the port in the sky, 3 minutes 24 seconds in:
‚The tyrant of Europe, the master of Gifted warfare, is still waiting.’
COULD RANPO MEAN AGATHA, BY CHANCE? /THAT/ IS A //CRAZY// TITLE. MASTER OF GIFTED WARFARE? IM SO EXCITED FOR AGATHA’S APPEARANCE !! \(≧▽≦)/ \\ now his wasn't explicitly stated to be agatha, but considering what we know of her now, i wouldn't doubt that it's her !! (>ᴗ•) !
‚If they were to fight, based on sheer numbers, peace would be restored in six months or so.’
RESTORING PEACE WHEN OVER /SIXTEEN/ NATIONAL MILITARIES OF VAMPIRES WIEDLING WEAPONS ARE THEIR ENEMY IS /INSANE/ Σ(・口・)
IM SO HYPED FOR AGATHA \\ SHE’S MORE MYSTERIOUS THAN FYODOR (੭ु ›ω‹ )੭ु⁾⁾♡
crime and punishment was such a plot twist and fyodor is probably the most /insane/ antagonist we've seen yet, so how is agatha going to trump this? we've already seen fitzgerald banded together with the agency in the fight against the decay of angels so maybe agatha will too \\ (though fitzgerald already had his 'fight the ada' arc so, maybe not (ᵕ—ᴗ—) (っ- ‸ - ς)) \\ but her plot twist must be /In.Sane/ (๑꒪▿꒪)*
i know asagiri is about to cook with this one (๑>◡<๑) \\ thanks for reading my ramblings

What is Chuuya's opinion of each member of the Armed Detective Agency?
I'm going to assume that this is mainly in regards to actual Canon and not any individual muse interpretations so here goes...
Tumblr media
Chuuya's Opinions On The Agency
Tumblr media
First thing to note is that even though he can seem a bit of a hard-ass, Chuuya's opinions are a little bit flexible (and largely determined by events at the time and Mori's orders). He's never dead set on what he thinks of them, though overall, he thinks the Agency is a bit hypocritical and unfairly praised in the public eye.
After all, the Port Mafia ( / Mori Corporation) has done a lot to protect Yokohama from external threats (arguably, Chuuya alone has done more to protect Yokohama just when he was 16 than the Agency has probably done in its entire career up until the Moby Dick incident ; never mind the rest of the Port Mafia. And Akutagawa was just as responsible for protecting the city from the Moby Dick, but as far as we see, its only Atsushi and the Agency that get praised in the papers).
He also sees the Agency and the public as hypocrites since the Agency technically involves itself in vigilante gang warfare (see: the gang the Agency retaliated against for attacking Cafe Uzumaki, and all the gangs around Yokohama that are blatantly terrified of going against them because the Agency retaliates violently). Its not so much the retaliation that he has a problem with, so much as it is that its treated differently than when the Port Mafia retaliates. The Agency gets public awards, while the Port Mafia are regarded as criminals for doing the same exact things.
The Port Mafia gets away with it because they have a strong network of lawyers and other such people in place to fight / pay off the courts and authorities to turn a blind eye.
The Agency gets away with it because they're the Agency and tote around the "good guy" label.
On a personal level, I wouldn't say he hates them exactly. More just that he finds them to be rather obnoxious and likes to mock them on the regular (he often refers to them as "Toddlers") to be petty and derogatory.
On a professional level, he's loyal to Mori's whims. If Mori says they're allies today, then they're allies today. If Mori tells Chuuya to crush them out of existence tomorrow, he'll do so without hesitation. That's his promise to Mori as his second-in-command.
Tumblr media
Fukuzawa
He's generally neutral towards him, though he knows quite a bit more about Fukuzawa's history than your average person through Mori, and views it as "hypocrisy trickles down from the top". That's not to say though he doesn't have at least a little bit of neutral respect for the guy. He knows first hand how hard it can be to run an organization reliably, even a small one.
Ranpo
He used to be fairly neutral towards him, only knowing him by reputation, until the Cannibalism events. Then he got stuck in that book and left there to find his own way out long after Ranpo managed to escape. He's even more peeved because it happened while Mori's life was still in danger, and there's nothing Chuuya hates more than being helpless to protect his people or his Boss. His feelings can be summed up in 3 words: Fuck That Guy. He really wants to pummel him properly.
Kunikida
Likewise fairly neutral, though he's heard quite a bit (through Dazai, obviously) how he can be a bit of a volatile hard-ass and pain in the neck (naturally, because Dazai is an unreliable narrator about his role in things like that, Chuuya just assumes by default that its entirely deserved). Following events with the Hunting Dogs though, he does have to admit he's pretty ballsy though. Almost blowing yourself up to save the rest of your organization takes some guts most people don't have.
Yosano
He's had very little contact with her (though he's heard plenty from Mori since her Ability is so coveted). However, after the one run-in he did have with her when the Three Way Conflict with the Guild was in full swing, he definitely thinks she belongs with / would fit in well with the mafia with how sadistic she is against her enemies purely on principle.
Kenji
He's actually fairly friendly with him (I mean how can you not be? This is Kenji after all). Moreover, he's actually impressed with him, which is a rare feat, given that Kenji is capable of tanking his kicks with hardly a scratch or bruise to speak of. The fact that Kenji also complimented his Ability AND his hat certainly doesn't hurt things. He really wants to fight him purely on the basis that he's curious about how well his Ability and Kenji's would match up in power, rather than out of hostility. Its not every day he finds another Ability user who can take his blows to give him an actual challenge or fun time.
Tanizaki
He's barely met the guy, though he does have some mixed feelings. On the one hand, the guy tried (and nearly succeeded, more than anyone else) to assassinate his Boss during the Cannibalism events, and he really doesn't like that. On the other hand, his Ability would be real handy to have in the hit squad / Black Lizards if the Agency decided to make him the person they traded to the Port Mafia in exchange for helping them against the Hunting Dogs. He clearly has the willingness to assassinate people with it already.
Dazai
Do I even need to spell it out? He's still pissed at Dazai for a lot of things - the list is too long to put here. He hates him now more than ever after he defected from the mafia. He hates that Mori still has a "place" for him set in reserve afterwards. He's also still the only person who can allow him to use Corruption safely, and Chuuya still trusts Dazai not to let him die in action if circumstances force them to work together. Which naturally means he hates and is irritated with Dazai even more.
Kyouka
He's tentatively friendly towards her, being that she used to be Port Mafia, and is important to Kouyou. He's well aware that the Port Mafia simply wasn't good for her, nor was being forced to kill people repeatedly when she's only 14, so he doesn't hold any hard feelings towards her leaving (and her leaving was sanctioned by one of the Executives, so he doesn't count her as a traitor). That said, she's no longer Port Mafia and with the Agency, so he'll put the organization first and won't hold back if Mori orders him to go up against her in battle.
Atsushi
He's heard a lot of things about him, but they really haven't met. He just knows he's newer to the Agency and has worked with Akutagawa a handful of times similar to how he and Dazai sometimes work together, and he knows Dazai wants to make the two of them the next generation of Double Black.

Part Ⅴ Escape - Chapter 1.5
☽ The Hitman's Dream ☾
2,215 Words
Dazai Osamu has never run faster in his life.
As soon as the car he commandeered pulls into the dead end he starts full out sprinting. The large warehouse is easy to spot. It looks just like any other, save for the blue and red glows coming from inside. Flawless and Strait is the Gate locked in battle.
Slowing himself to a silent stop, Dazai creeps along the edge, picking the simple padlock on the side door. In seconds, he's in. The men stand, face to face, guns drawn.
Oda dodges and in three seconds Gide fires. Oda does the same, and just like him, Gide dodges. Matching each other's movements. Pushing and pulling like magnets.
'At this rate it's a battle of stamina. It can't go on forever, eventually they'll begin to tire, one of them will be too slow and then . . .'
Dazai doesn't want to think about that, and doesn't want to imagine his dear friend lying bloody on the ground. So he doesn't think. He acts. He fires his gun. The bullet finds its mark in Gide's back causing blood to spurt like fireworks from his mouth, spill over his lips, down his chin, and onto the concrete floor.
There's an old phrase by an American author, Ralph Waldo Emerson. "When you strike at a king, you must kill him." Marksmanship has never been Dazai's strong suit, and having only one eye in use doesn't help. Gide isn't dead yet.
In his final act, Gide raises his arm weakly, but it's just enough. Both men pull their guns at the same time. They pull the trigger, the sound echoing through the empty space. A sonic boom. Gide falls to the ground . . . so does Oda.
The red puddle grows, resembling a fallen rose, the shreds of a torn kimono, as it creeps across the ground.
Dazai's eyes widen, round like the wound in Oda's chest. He runs to him, falling on his knees. "Odasaku!"
"I'm here Dazai. Thank you for coming to save me." he says, voice weak.
"Of course. Let's go back." Dazai grabs his older friend's hand, seeming to ignore the bleeding wound. He's in denial, refuses to think that he won't make it. He has too. If he doesn't, nothing will be the same again. "Yosano will heal you. I'll get you to Yosano. She'll heal you. You'll be good as new."
"Da . . . zai, I . . . can't."
"Yes, you can."
At this moment Dazai has never been more grateful for Nakahara Chuuya. If not for his endless competitions with his chibi in everything from martial arts to just plain running, if it wasn't for the drive to be the better one, the stronger one, then he'd never have been able to lift Oda.
He takes back what he said before. The way here was barely running. Nothing compared to now. He runs until his chest hurts and he's out of breath, and even with his feet aching and his head pounding.
'The poor civilians will have gone by now and taken their car with them. Mori could have a car here in minutes, but I don't trust him. No car or bus will take me. I need Chuuya. I need . . . my phone! I left it! I can't believe I . . .'
Where the thin alleys turn back into full road, a car waits. A shining, dark green jeep with painted orange flames and no top, engine still on. A boy with hair like the flames on his car sits in the driver's seat.
"Get in!"
Dazai doesn't need to be told twice. He hops in and lets his partner use his ability to lift Oda into the back.
"How did you . . .?"
Chuuya gives a tense eyeroll, "You really think you're the only smart one around here, don't you."
Dazai says nothing, indicating that he's not amused.
"I forced the location out of your pal- Don't give me that look, I didn't hurt him! He wants you back safely as much as I do. He agreed as long as I promised not to go until you left the warehouse."
"He put a tracker on me!" Dazai realises with an uncomfortable start and begins patting himself down.
A memory comes to him of Ranpo's last shove, right before he fell. He slipped something in Dazai's pocket. Dazai digs around with his bloodied hands until he pulls out an oddly symmetrical sweet.
As annoying as it is to have Ranpo pull one over on him, he has bigger things to worry about now than his friend's unorthodox protectiveness.
'Does Mori have access to this? I can't ask Chuuya, I can't show him my doubt, not yet.'
"Yeah." is all Chuuya says, shrugging and shaking his head in mock amazement as if to say 'You really thought I'd just let you go? You didn't think I'd come for you? Don't be an idiot.'
A groan comes from the back seat, Dazai turns his head so fast it hurts.
"D-dazai?" Oda coughs.
"I'm right here. You're safe. Gide's gone. You're safe."
"You can slow down now, I won't make it, and driving this fast isn't safe." Oda furrows his brow, raising himself as if to try and see the speedometer. Even near death his protective instincts don't include himself.
Dazai turns to his partner "Chibi, floor it."
"What do you think I'm doing?" the red head mutters, knowing better than to start a fight when someone's dying in the back of his car.
'The warehouse was all the way across town, and we're still a few miles from HQ. There's only so many cut throughs I can take before I'll have to enter the business and tourist areas. I'll have to slow down then. Better bank as much time as I can.' Chuuya thinks, frowning when the speedometer reads only 160 kph, willing the pedal to sink down further.
"Dazai! Please slow down! You'll both get hurt." Oda pleads
"No. We're close."
'We're not.'
"We'll take you straight to Yosano. She'll fix you. Yosano's going to fix you. Fix you right up, just like new."
Everyone in the car can hear Dazai beginning to unravel as the life drains out of Oda through the hole in his chest and the car seems not to be getting any closer to it's destination.
"Listen, the bullet's close to my heart, I think. It's still in there, I can feel it. No matter how good a doctor she is, I don't know if there is any fixing this. I want . . . I need you to be ready for that."
"No. I'm not ready! Chuuya, use gravity, take the bullet out!"
"I can't, not from here. If I just yank it out, it might hit something else. Even if it didn't, it's holding the wound closed, it needs to stay in or he'll bleed out. You know that. Calm down, you're not thinking straight."
Small drops of water form in Dazai's right eye and behind his bandages, wetting them as they get bigger.
"He's right . . . I want you to know that I want better things for you."
"Stop!"
"I-"
"Shut up! Save your breath."
"Dazai, let him speak."
Dazai glares at his partner, who keeps his eyes fixed on the road ahead. Oda grabs the boy's hand, looking sadly at his own blood that stains it. It's only this that keeps both men grounded.
When Oda speaks only a whisper comes out, scarcely audible over the wind's roar. "Dazai, listen to me, please. I know it makes no difference to you, but please become a good human being. Save the weak, protect the orphaned. I suppose you don't care for either justice or evil . . . but striving to be a better person is a wonderful thing."
Oda stares into the distance, Dazai follows his gaze. It's golden hour, when the sun casts a bronze glow onto everything in reach. In the evening light the five towers of the Mori Corporation glitter like the ocean.
'How can something so evil look so angelic?'
Lost in thought, Dazai doesn't see Oda's eyes close.
When he does turn again the man is limp, but smiling.
"Odasaku! No!"
Chuuya's voice shatters the moment, "Dazai, we're here!"
He nods, numbly.
-
They run to the lift, Dazai pressing the buttons over and over in panic, Chuuya floating Oda behind him. When they get there the door is open. Ranpo and Yosano are waiting.
The Angel of Death works quickly, removing the bullet, her dark rainbow of butterflies surrounding the unconscious Oda, healing him from the inside out.
When the butterflies disappear, Dazai starts to shake Oda, calling out to him.
Nervous, he looks to Yosano, "Why isn't he answering?"
"He's fine, just unconscious. There's nothing more to do but wait."
'Even I'll admit that it was close. If its had been two centimetres left. If they'd got caught in traffic . . . He's not going to wait is he? He's going to make himself sick pacing around here. But he'll only do the same thing in his office if I kick him out . . . best to just let him stay I guess.'
'I always wish he'd look less dead, but I think this is worse.' Chuuya looks at his distraught boyfriend. He's never seen emotion like this on him. It makes him reach out, despite Dazai's aversion to touch.
Dazai turns at the contact, but doesn't flich. An improvement.
"Hey, Osa, you stay with him. I'll fill the mission paperwork."
That big brown eye looks up at Chuuya with utmost gratitude.
'Chibi hates paperwork.' but more important in his mind 'Chibi is going to face Mori for me.'
With a sympathetic smile Chuuya drops his hat onto Dazai's head and walks out. The two masked executives follow him.
"All the cabinets are electronically locked. Don't try anything. He'll be fine in a few hours." Yosano's voice calls as the three leave.
Dazai doesn't answer, instead observing Oda.
'He thought he'd died. He thought he'd died and he looked so happy. He's not happy now.'
"Are you happy, Odasaku?"
Only the whir of the air con and beep of the vital monitors answer him.
"How can I make you happy, my friend?"
In the silence that follows, Oda's words come back to him, as if the man is truly awake and beside him.
Two people sit with a stool between them.
"Read any good books lately, Dazai" Oda asked, trying to fill the silence in the unusually empty bar.
"Yes. A Shameful Life by Oba Yozo is a delight to read. Why do you ask?"
"I don't know . . ."
"Don't you?" Dazai had asked with those eyes that stare into a person's soul.
The gaze forced the 22-year-old to answer, "I've always wanted to be an author . . . it's the reason I don't kill anymore."
Dazai laughed, a single bark, more out of rare surprise then humour. "Oh? Do you think it'll keep you out of trouble? You've committed plenty of other crimes that the police could have you for."
Oda shook his head, pausing for a sip of his drink. "No, it's not that. I know I've done many wrongs, but long ago, I met a man who told me who told me that one who kills, one who causes death, has no right to write about life."
"Hmm." Dazai tapped his chin in thought, "Well, it sounds as rational as anything else elders say. I don't see a problem with it. Let's drink. Bartender! Another round, put it on my tab."
~
More recent words flood his brain before Dazai can fully process what he's just remembered.
"I know it makes no difference to you, but please become a good human being. Save the weak, protect the orphaned. I suppose you don't care for either justice or evil . . . but striving to be a better person is a wonderful thing."
'Doing good he says . . . is that what would make him happy? Then why hasn't he left?'
"Why are you still here. After all this time? Why didn't you leave?"
Oda's hand twitches, grabbing onto Dazai's.
"Odasaku! You're awake."
Oda snores softly. Dazai deflates.
'That's my answer, isn't it. He stayed because he had nowhere else to go. He stayed because of me. I'm the one that did this to him. I have to help him.'
"I'm going to help you Odasaku. I'm going to get you out of here. I just need some time to prepare, please trust me."
As day turns to night Dazai holds Oda's hand.
When Dazai feels sleep nagging at him he bows his head, ready to let it come, instead he's met with a hat in his lap. Chuuya's hat. It smells like his conditioner, a warm scent. To Dazai, it smells like home.
'Nakahara Chuuya. What am I to do about him? He'd never come with me and I could never hurt him by leaving him.' In the cold dark silence the thoughts that consume Dazai's restless soul are much louder, impossible to ignore 'But would it hurt him? Does he truly love me or is this just a fling for him? He deserves much better, someone as lively as him, someone who can keep from insulting him at every turn. I mean, he's probably going to leave me anyway. I could never stomach the heartbreak, so I should leave while I still can.'
"I'm such a coward, Oda, would you mind if I came with you. Would you mind it if we could run away from all this together?"
Soon, sleep overtakes him. He'll have back cramps later, but for now it's okay.

"This year our benefactor will be joining us for the New Year," the President says, "I trust that you will be on your moderately best behavior."
The members of the Armed Detective Agency crowd the meeting room, a rare occurrence and one that involved various levels of bribery on the President's part.
Haruno, as always, stands not far behind the president, her hands clasped around a clip board held to her chest. She has personally assisted the Agency's president for years, longer than half of the Agency's detectives. Much like every year, she will be joining them.
"Dazai in particular I ask to cooperate," the President singles out the bandaged man currently sitting with his front slumped over the table, "under no circumstance are you to touch Natsume-sensei."
"Such an action would have detrimental consequences."
Dazai's first course of action would be to go against the President's orders, it's one of his tried and true methods. It's something left over from his mafia days- perhaps it would be what one who was human would call his true nature. It feels right.
But he is actively continuing to change, to take his President's words and mull them over.
The President rarely asks anything of his employees- it's a wonder the Agency is still standing with the blatant neglect of a command. Dazai himself has only witnessed the President leave his office to settle disputes among them or to guide them through an assignment only a few handful of times over his three years as an employee and detective of the Agency.
So for the man to not only step out of the safety of his office to discuss their usual new years plans but to also address one of them directly, it must be important that Dazai follow his orders.
"Yes, sir."
"Good morning, everyone," a fairly tall man with a cane greets the detectives as Dazai joins them, his coat hastily thrown on as he recalled the time.
The President bows his head in greeting, "Natsume-sensei."
The President showing respect isn't unusual, from the little the man has told them about the Agency's benefactor, it's expected.
He and the others automatically follow their leader's actions, all except Ranpo-san and the woman he recognizes as the President's personal assistant.
Ranpo gives the man a slightly deeper bow, one that earns a slight chuckle from their benefactor.
"I see you are still up to your antics, Ranpo-kun."
The Detective grins, "Would you expect any different, Natsume-san?"
Natsume hums, an amused glint in his eyes, but ultimately does not answer.
They start up the stairs of the shrine. Dazai, Kunikida and Atsushi in the front, The President and his assistant trail at the end of their group to keep their benefactor company, his cane making the climb harder. Dazai vaguely heard Kunikida scolding him for stepping up backwards as he watched the three converse, too far behind for him to make out anything they were saying.
The President always stayed one stair behind whilst Haruno threaded her and Natsume's elbows together, offering the elder man support in ways that seemed second nature.
"God, they're so insufferable," Ranpo's voice breaks through his thoughts, having not noticed his superior catch up to their trio.
"What do you mean by that, Ranpo-san?," Atsushi asks, looking over his shoulder at where the elder's focus was. He didn't see anything wrong with the scene, Atsushi had done the same on numerous occasions for friend and foe alike, more notably his mentor, and his stubborn other half.
"They're practically drooling over him," the Detective overtakes the group, his scarf flowing behind him- really it was the President's scarf, the man had stolen it from him before the others had arrived, badgering the elder until he gave in.
"Natsume-sensei isn't some helpless old man- he's the Agency's benefactor after all."
Dazai hums, swaying side to side dangerously, a playful mannerism that had slowly snuck back into his life, nearly knocking Kunikida off the steps.
'..So why can't I touch him..?'

Could you do nsfw thigh riding headcanons with ranpo, dazai, and mark? <3
Thigh Riding With Ranpo, Dazai and Mark Twain
Yessir, your wish is my command and thank you for asking!! I love this idea so much. I hope this was okay for my first request! <33
Ranpo
This baby does not have the patience
Though, he does absolutely love the idea, he can barely hold himself together while you grind down on his thigh
Also, have you seen his thighs? They look so grindable .o.
Hes holding himself back so baddd
He just wants to manhandle you off of him and pound you until you pass out ahh
He has a permanent blush on his face the whole time hes so cute
He'd probably get too impatient to let you finish on him like this, so it would most likely end with him fucking you one way or another
Or, if you really wanted to get off on his thigh, you'd have to give him a blowjob first, so he can be a bit more calmer maybe
But only a little bit, this doesn't change the fact that he'd still want to fuck you, it would only take him a little longer for his patience to run out completely
This man is a ex port mafia executive
Dazai
He has all the patience in the world when he wants to have
Luckily, this is a time where he does want to have
You'd be living you best life, riding his thigh, while the whole time he has this huge, smug, sexy smirk on his face
His eyes rotate from your face, down to your dripping pussy and then back up again, repeating that process
His hands lay steadily on your hips, giving you little taps and rubs every now and then for a bit of comfort
He loves hearing your desperate pleas, just whisper his name over and over
He has the most patience out of the three
When you've had your fun and reached your high, you can collapse on his chest for a couple seconds before his hands rub up to your waist and he whispers in your ear, "Again"
If you asked for this, you better make the most of it
And if he asked for his, you better give him a show
Mark Twain
This dude is ecstatic when you bring up the idea
Or he brings it up
He thinks this is the best idea since sliced bread
He said to himself that he'd try his best to be patient and calm, wanting you to have your fun before he knocks your lights out,
Buttttt he figured out that that is much easier said than done
He can get totally lost in the way your juices coat his leg, making it all shiny and glistening
The way your pussy lips part and he can feel your clit rubbing up against him
The way your head tilts back and his name falls from your lips in the pretties whine
He is so quick to unbuckle his belt and make you ride him instead
If you're too tired, he'd have no problem rutting up into you instead
This boy is totally and utterly in love with you it makes him go crazy
Though, he would try his very best to be patient, so he does end up lasting a little longer than ranpo lol
Anyway, thigh riding has probably made it's way into Mark's growing list of kinks .o.
