It's hard not to compare two new characters we've been introduced to in the last update.
I find it interesting that a very important part of Ruan Mei's mission is that she makes us forget things we've learned.
Meanwhile, an important part of our encounter with Dr Ratio is him making us remember things we've forgotten. And then he debates us to reach the truth (from what I understand he knew about what was going on all along but just did that teacher thing when they help the pupil come to the correct conclusion instead of telling them right away).
I wonder if it was a deliberate juxtaposition.

I have finally decided to put my knowledge as a occupational therapist in training to good use and made a little comic about some ADL (activities of daily life) things!
The little cutting aid Leo is using in the last panel is a cutting board with an extra board that has spikes on it. The spikes can be used to impale something, an apple in this case, so its easier to cut it apart with one hand! Also the cutting board has little anti-slippery thingies under it so it doesnt move around while trying to cut something. There are so many things that people without disabilities take for granted, me as well, that we would never notice!

Those cutting boards with spike and anti-slipping aids also exist in real life and are used by people who have problems with motor functions in their hands or are missing an arm/hand alltogether! You can also put toast on it if you wanna spread butter on it or other things to cut apart.
I think anything that can educate and empower a person to be more self confident, self sufficient and independent in what they do is important and more people should have access to aids like these if they need it!
Im gonna link an english website that I found (i apologize for lack of ressources, i am german and mostly only have german one sbdhwbch) and if anyone wants to, feel free to add your own ressources as well! Brown Ajah Fourth Age
It is said that every sister of the Brown Ajah seeks to leave a lasting change. That despite them being perceived as distracted by looking at the past, that the true purpose of the Brown Ajah is gather the knowledge they can and cast it as a torch to a brighter future. In the dawn of the Fourth Age, that future is said to have come. Today the Brown, long considered the most distracted or passive Ajah, stands proudly in its reinvigorated role; Though action taken to ensure more knowledge is preserved for future generations than what was lost in previous turnings of the Ages, today the Brown plays its part in ensuring this new Age reaps the benefits of enlightenment.
Education
The Browns have gone throughout the Dragon Peace nations to formalize mass Education and ensure with keepers of the Dragon's Peace that Education is fair and is as unbiased as possible. Where local Lords or officials fall short, the Brown Ajah and officials of the Dragon's Peace administrative bodies establish schoolhouses as needed. These schools are often led by traditional educators of their communities, yet the Brown Ajah has begun working with the Academies to establish new standards for education; Schools and classes specifically for the training of teachers are being used to ensure that there are plenty of skilled educators available for these districts.
These classes have been studying the art of teaching and education to refine lessons and styles. The Brown Ajah not only takes up advisory roles in both these and smaller local boards, they are active participants in their conduct. The Brown ajah is committed to ensuring factual and quality education is available to all.
Though the Brown owns nearly as many printing presses as the White and Ivory, their presses are primarily used for the mass production of education material, as well as copying historical literature. Most is made available at low price or even free.
The intimate relationship between schools and the Browns have meant that they are the Ajah most common people are both most familiar with and most likely to view positively. This is to the chagrin to the other Ajahs and local authorities who attempt to push out the Browns as they see them as infiltrators who are attempting to subvert them by controlling the commoners through indoctrination. More than a few times have distracted Browns needed support from Aiel peacekeepers to avoid dangerous incidents.
Modern Study and Libraries
To promote further advancements in society and knowledge, the Brown Ajah has attempted to work with the Academies founded by the Dragon Reborn and the Dragon Peace. As these organizations nearly to a number prize their independence from other institutions, however, the Brown and Aes Sedai in general have only been able to establish small collaborative efforts. The Brown Ajah has taken action to not only unite and share the research done by all the disparate Academies and the Tower, but to lay the foundations for a formalized method of studying and showcasing notes to further other related projects; The various Research Journals of the Brown Ajah have inspired the collection of research papers for publication and preservation so that they may be referenced in future studies. All Research published is useful, even experiments reported to have failed provided they have given proper information on their failures, so that others can learn from their mistakes. While most Academies have also started their own Journals of sciences, mathematics, literature and philosophy, and other topics, the Brown Journals maintain high standards and are the most recognized. An entire new subsection of newly raised Brown Ajah sisters have begun dedicating themselves to conducting tests based on research papers to either corroborate their findings or issue rebuttals for incorrect findings; A developing academic discourse is growing amongst the Journals and the many who dedicate themselves to testing findings in such ways to ensure the correctness of findings and integrity of the journals and records.
The Brown Ajah has of course created vast libraries in nearly ever major city, most public, with copies of historical books and recent publications, but it has also taken up the responsibility to expand the library sciences and connect libraries together. Using Traveling, stockpiles and extensive record keeping, the Brown have made it possible to not only request a book from one library to another library nearly across the continent, but in some places it is possible to do so through the mail service. The ease and rapid speed of knowledge is limited only by the practical realities of transportation by Traveling and whether it is deemed appropriate by officials to provide the requested texts.
Ter'angreal
Many Browns conduct research of their own across a wide range of subjects. In fact, many Browns, both newly raised to standing sisters to even the retired have attempted to join one of the Academies to study; Those who have succeeded have made remarkable discoveries and aided in other academy member's own research.
Within the Tower, though, many turn to studying the ter'angreal. Both existing objects are studied under new safety procedures, and the art of creating wholly new angreal are explored. It is risky, and even those gifted with the rare Talent of Reading objects of the Power. The Hall has debated at length over these practices and has issued orders to halt study temporarily multiple times, but it has not been without reward. Ter'angreal containing texts from the Age of Legends themselves have been opened, forever expanding understanding of the time before the breaking; Study into objects designed to allow non-channelers to operate them have not been successful in recreating such effect, but have furthered understanding of tying off Weaves; And recreations of existing Ter'angreal and entirely new objects have been made.
Ter'angreal to aid in Traveling and Skimming are available to sisters and Accepted who require them. Wells to store Power within are also being created though most still only store small amounts. Farweaving Ter'angreal are pairs or sets of objects, a sender and receiver or receivers, that a channeler can Weave through at extended distances. The Wirespeak Ter'angreal has been laid throughout portions of the Tower, allowing sisters to communicate from opposite ends of the Tower, though they are exhausting to use and extremely expensive in their current incarnation. Stacker Boxes store far more items within them than a box of their size should be able to. There has even been progress creating objects to prevent a female channeler from being controlled by an a'dam, though these prevent all forms of linking and hinder Warder bonds as well. Though most Ter'angreal created and recreated are imperfect and their shapes vary wildly even amonst ones that do the same thing, Ter'angreal specialists believe that one day they will be able to create standards with their knowledge; The Hall permitting their studies, of course.
The Brown candidate for Amyrlin
Zemaille Amassa Sedai is an unusual candidate and sister for one major reason; She was one of the Atha'an Miere Windfinders sent to the Tower to protect the secret of Windfinders from Aes Sedai. Now that all know that Windfinders channel, and the Tower and Windfinders have agreements, she and her fellow Atha'an Miere sisters have found themselves Freed of their greatest secrets. Some have decided to try and return to the sea, but Zemaille decided different; Formerly seen as shy, she now openly wears her heritage and has be vital in the new directions that the Brown Ajah has taken. Her supporters publicly state her becoming Amyrlin would strengthen ties with the Atha'an Miere Empire against the Seanchan and expand the Tower's influence across the seas; Secretly, her most high ranking supporters speak of the wisdom electing an Amyrlin who is already familiar with the thirteenth Depository and countless secrets of the Tower. Others fear such ties would more of a danger than anything else, as both the Atha'an Miere would seek to influence the Tower through her, and the Seanchan would feel threatened by a Tower Atha'an Miere alliance. Though she was forced to the Tower and many believe she was pushed towards the Browns, she has always felt the great call of the Brown Ajahs mission.

Less for me to say about the Browns. Been busy and this is a bit rushed out. Their whole thing in the original hoi4 mod inspired project is that they seem to be the best choice, but in reality they just bring slightly less baggage than any other possible Amyrlin. The Ter'angreal are pretty much all based on one's seen in the books besides Stacker Boxes. The Wirespeak Ter'angreal is like an ultra primitive Telegraph using the Power; At most it connects a few key rooms and can be used as a type of intercom, but it can knock a Aes Sedai out trying to use for more than a few seconds, and it really isn't clear speaking through. It's also super expensive and takes up a lot of room, as all the "wires" are made of rare metals with intricate and expensive designs on them, the wires need replaced regularly as usage can cause them to just burn away, and they are all connected to a massive ballroom sized box; Like, imagine the earliest computers sized. So they won't really be likely to have that communication technology widely available for a long time. Please interact or send asks, these take a lot of time and I really hope people like them!

A person with a mental type of "Pascal" is thoughtful, gifted, capable and, most likely, talented.
It would be nice to recognize these virtues from childhood and give them the green light in later life.

Khemor would say that he prefers a few close friends. There are many people who would look at the circle of people he is is friendly with and be surprised, or think that he is fooling himself. Because of his diplomatic skillset, Khemor does enjoy meeting new people and is very good at maintaining several circles of "friends," and you won't realize you weren't in his closest circle until you're let into the next tier. He'll send congratulations on your cousin's daughter's promotion to third flautist in the Solitude Children's Chamber Orchestra and remember your birthday and all your food sensitivities; make you feel like the most important and interesting person on Nirn when you're speaking to him...and most people never realize he hasn't told them anything about himself or his own thoughts, emotions, or vulnerabilities beyond surface pleasantries.
💛YELLOW HEART — how many languages does your oc speak? what language(s) are they learning, if any?
Khemor is quite the polyglot! His first language was likely some dialect of Osh Ornim, but as he was abandoned and taken in by a mage from a Crown family before he was five years old, he lost it quickly and grew up speaking Yoku at home, and Yoku and Cyrodiilic around Skaven. Like any well-educated mage, he can read, write, and speak Aldmeris, High Elvish, and Bretic fluently. He has knowledge of dead languages such as Ayleidoon and Dwemeris, though since he has risen high enough in the ranks of the College of Whispers to make free use of the scribes and scriptorium, he has become a little rusty. During his time in the Cynosure of the College of Whispers, he became familiar enough with "street" Ta'agra that he could mostly avoid being cheated by Khajiiti merchants that came over the border, but he will be first to admit that his accent is atrocious. In Skyrim, after being revealed to be the Dragonborn, he spent an entire winter with the Greybeards, learning Dovahzul. Now that it is becoming evident that he will not be able to return to his home in Cyrodiil, Khemor is also focusing on becoming fluent in Nordic to better be able to assimilate to Skyrim's culture. After Alduin's defeat, and Ulfric Stormcloak's victory, Khemor has devoted himself to shoring up the place of the newly liberated Skyrim in Tamriel's geopolitical landscape. This means quite a bit of diplomatic work with other independent nations like Hammerfell and Morrowind. Khemor keeps meaning to pick up Dunmeris, at least to be able to converse with House Redoran envoys and ambassadors in their own language, but because of his close association with Ulfric Stormcloak, there aren't many Dunmer in Windhelm who would go out of their way to help him practice.
🍛 CURRY AND RICE — what does your oc's typical dinner look like? do they usually eat dinner?
If left to his own devices, Khemor would definitely not usually eat dinner. He tends to get distracted and absorbed in his research and forgets to eat. Fortunately he has two housecarls who do a good job reminding him when it's dinnertime. Dinner at Hjerim is usually a simple affair, but with high quality food and cuts of meat as would befit a Thane. Barley bread is a staple, as it is easy to grow even in the harsh climate of Eastmarch, though fine white wheat flour is well within his means to acquire when it is available. Fish, either herring or salmon fresh from the docks, or whatever special Aval Atheron has at his butcher's stall in the market provide the bulk of the protein. Root vegetables such as beets, radishes, carrots, and turnips also regularly make an appearance, especially in skause or pottage. When he can get the beans imported from Hammerfell, he always has a small cup of coffee after dinner.

Pinocchio's education (3/4)
And here is the last part of my rough translation of Apostolidès’ article “Pinocchio, a male education”. If you want to check the original in French, it is available for free here. [EDIT: Turns out Tumblr doesn't like having posts too long, so I'll need to cut the third post into two...]
Created in 1940, Walt Disney’s version presents an Americanized Pinocchio. The animated movie changed so much Collodi’s character that it was very coldly received in Italy upon its release. A first change of note: In Disney’s movie, the story is narrated by the Talking Cricket who is now called Jiminy Cricket. In Collodi’s novel, the cricket as just one voice among many – here, he is promoted to the rank of “official conscience” of Pinocchio. In the novel, Collodi has many different external voices speak to the puppet, all transmitting to him through proverbs what were usually advices born of folk-wisdom. This true concerto, played usually by animals (the talking cricket, but also the slug, the pigeon, the parrot and many more), was a double of the parental voice. As such, the entirety of nature gathered around Pinocchio to tell him which path he should follow. With Walt Disney, Jiminy becomes an internalized conscience, he is the superego of the puppet, solemnly ordained by the Blue Fairy (“So she dubbed me Sir Jiminy Cricket, Lord High Keeper of the Knowledge of Right and Wrong”). From the first to the second version, we went from a Pinocchio shaped by exterior elements to another with a more modern sensibility, determined by internal elements. This new Pinocchio does not show any rebellion against the adult world. On the contrary, he impulsively tries to take advantage of it, not able to recognizing in this adult world what is good for him, and what is bad for him. A part of his misfortunes also comes from the fact that his conscience doesn’t know what to choose either – here again, we find ourselves in an era when values were changing.
Since the original context of Collodi’s creation disappears with Walt Disney’s version, the story is now inscribed in a new one: the American values of the early 1940s. Geppetto is not a poor wood-sculptor constantly hungry anymore: he is a lonely craftsman, living comfortably, and who builds toys for children. When the fairy grants him his wish to see his puppet come to life, she just says: “Good Geppetto, you gave so much happiness to others, you deserve to be rewarded”. The fairy appears in the beginning of the movie, while Collodi only introduced her in the fifteenth chapter. When the audience first discovers Pinocchio, Geppetto is almost done with his work, by painting a smile on the wooden face. As such, the puppet does not spring to life on its own: he needs both parents. The “bastard” aspect of the original character, that we highlighted before, is replaced by a conformism making Pinocchio a little boy immediately fit for social order. His father gave him his shape, his outside appearance; his mother gave him his soul and his life. It is also her mother who sets him free from the strings that restrained him: the mechanical education of the father is followed by the mother’s psychological and moral education. Walt Disney’s fairy lacks any ambivalence: she has the same physical and moral traits as the dreamy princesses of the other animated fairytales of the American master, Cinderella and Snow-White. Towards Geppetto, she behaves like a wife – a younger wife, a distant wife, a benevolent wife. She even speaks to him as if he was the child. Meanwhile, towards the puppet, she behaves as a protective mother and as a very moral figure. As soon as Pinocchio asks her what he must do to become a real boy, she lists to him the moral stereotypes of the America of the time: “Prove yourself brave, truthful and unselfish. Be a good son to Geppetto - make him proud of you ! Learn to tell right from wrong. Then, some day, you will wake up and find yourself a real boy”.
Just like the parental figures, the values offered to Pinocchio lack any ambiguity. The good characters are easily distinguishable from the villains – the villains are always dressed in shabby, poor clothes. For example, the Fox and the Cat that are seemingly ignored by a society of abundance. The same thing is true for the rascals of Pleasure Island: a close-up on their shoes show that they come from the lower class. Their transformation into donkeys is a metaphor to reveal that the only thing they truly bring was workforce.
The tragedy of Pinocchio, a little boy from middle-class, is that due to frequenting them he is threatened with ending up as a lower-class. The movie takes a great care to show who is good and who is evil: all the ambiguous characters, such as Fire-Eater the puppeteer, lose any form of complexity. Within Collodi’s work, he borrowed traits from Bluebeards: when Pinocchio arrives within the theater, the puppets of the commedia dell’ arte see him as a savior. Following his example, the puppets set themselves free from their traditional roles, and made Pinocchio triumph. After thinking about turning him into fire-wood, Fire-Eater forgives Pinocchio and sends him home with five gold coins. With Walt Disney’s, the puppeteer, renamed Stromboli, becomes a former partner of the Fox and the Cat, now reinvested in the business of theater. The animal duo sells him Pinocchio to become the star of his show. The problem introduced now is the one of the child sent too soon within the economic system: Pinocchio embodies the myth of the child-star, freshly created by Hollywood a few decades earlier. Pinocchio is not a child anymore, and yet cannot be recognized as an adult. If on one side he does a work that brings money, on the other he is tricked and exploited by Stromboli.
Within Walt Disney’s work, the conflict of values is located between the world of traditional crafts, and the world of the big industry: the world of Geppetto against the world of the little fat man that turns children into donkey (aka, into the lower class). Pinocchio would not be thinking about leaving his father’s house if the outside world didn’t offer him endless temptations. They are not solely tied to traditional forms of entertainment, such as the puppet theater – they are also focused on the Pleasure Island, where children stay for a few weeks before being metamorphosed into donkeys. On this island, carousels and games can be found, but also plenty of adult activities usually forbidden to children: smoking, drinking, playing billiard… Sexuality is not evoked in the movie, except in a minor way by “inferior” beings, such as Figaro the cat or Cleo the fish. On Pleasure Island, the children can also destroy the things that represent the traditional Western values: the traditions of literature and art. Torn books can be found in the streets, an entire palace is offered to be destroyed. When Candlewick and Pinocchio enter in said palace, a child destroys with an axe a piano ; and if Candlewick lights up his cigar by scratching his match against the Joconde, his friend destroys with a stone and great pleasure a cathedral’s stained glass.
In 1940, these scenes were clear allusions to the book-burnings that had happened the previous years within Nazi Germany. But, they could also be read as an allegory of the consumerist society that was building itself within the United-States. Geppetto, a product of the traditional Protestant mentality, belongs on a social level to a world that is economically threatened: he doesn’t have any appeal that could keep his son with him. Pinocchio will rather turn towards the outside world, and let the outside images filled the emptiness of his private life.
From a psychological point of view, Pinocchio is torn between the traditional modern (determined and shaped from the inside), and a new model. A new model that encourages imitation, an identity that forms itself with a group of kindred. Pinocchio is as much eager to look like the “others” around him as he is separated from his original nature of puppet. Another reason behind Pinocchio’s quest for a male model in the outside world is Geppetto’s age, and his behavior. The brave man is at the same time an old man, an elder, and a buddy-dad, a friend-father, with which the child plays and dances, but who is no model. And he is not a true husband for the fairy, who rather floats around the male world as a distant by protective mom. Pinocchio can only solve his contradictions by becoming a hero – that is to say by escaping into the extraordinary. By saving Geppetto’s life, by sacrificing himself for him, he takes the place of the absent father. The fairy-mother recognizes this substitution, and as such turns the child into a man, by making him a “real boy”. This promotion happens in the movie in a very symptomatic way, by the acquiring of a new finger on each hand: the puppet of Geppetto only had four fingers on each hand, but when he is transformed, the first thing Pinocchio sees when he wakes up is his human hand.

Major Kirk and the Women's Army Corps

When Uncle Sam called, a young woman from Penn Yan – much like many of the young men all around her – answered. And she not only rose to the call but went above and beyond it during her nearly three and a half years of service in World War II.
Less than six months after the United States of America entered the global conflict following the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese forces, the U.S. government – through a bill approved by Congress and signed by President Franklin Roosevelt – established the Women’s Auxiliary Air Corps on May 15, 1942 “for the purpose,” officially, “of making available to the national defense the knowledge, skill, and special training of women of the nation.” In actuality, it took a Congresswomen – U.S. Rep. Edith Nourse Rogers, of Massachusetts, who introduced the bill a year before it became law – to ensure women would receive all the rights and benefits afforded to male service members when they supported the Army, after she had witnessed the status of women in World War I.
Less than three months after the WAAC was formed, in September 1942, Carlotta “Kirk” Crosier became Yates County’s first woman to enlist in this new military organization. Having been employed as a physical education teacher in Owego public schools at the time, she joined through the Binghamton recruiting office. In fact, though she taught at Owego Free Academy for two years by that point, a newspaper article from the time indicates she did not return for the 1942-1943 school year because she anticipated a call to service.
From Binghamton, Crosier reported to Des Moines, Iowa for basic training at the rank of private. With her experience in physical education, she helped the platoon leader teach the other recruits how to march. Perhaps as a result, she was one of two privates selected for the first officers training course for women.
Upon completion of this officer candidate school, 2nd Lt. Crosier served as executive officer for an all-female company stationed in Daytona Beach, Florida but preparing for duty in England. When the unit was transferred to Fort Devon, Massachusetts and then Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, Crosier was promoted to company commander. When Crosier and her fellow women reached England in July 1943 – the first WAAC battalion to do so, with three to five companies – they were assigned to the 3rd Division of the 8th Air Force. Here, Crosier worked as a company commander under Gen. Curtis LeMay.
Initially, WAACs worked only as clerks, cooks, drivers, and medical personnel. Indeed, a newspaper report quoting an article by Doris Fleeson in the Woman’s Home Companion speaks of female troops under Crosier’s command performing clerical communications and mess duties.
In September 1943, though, Congress and the President – again, through the work of Rep. Rogers – authorized the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), shortening the acronym by a letter and allowing women to serve overseas with the regular Army. Now, women began to take on roles as cryptologists, radio operators, photographers, mechanics, and more.
At this point, it seems, 1st Lt. Crosier was transferred to the 8th Air Force Headquarters Operations Section commanded by Gen. Jimmy Doolittle. Later promoted to captain, she served as the first female operations watch officer in the history of the U.S. military. In this role, working in the operations room in a bombproof, underground structure, Crosier helped coordinate the missions that sent U.S. warplanes on the attack.
Listening to pre-mission discussions among Doolittle and his staff, Crosier helped supply such information as the weather and direct such decisions as the target, the time, the bombload, and the number of planes. When the group made its final decisions for the mission, it was Crosier’s job to write the field order containing all of the pertinent information, send it out by teletype to the bomber divisions, and alert allied agencies of the upcoming attack.
A newspaper article, with the date of March 9, 1944 handwritten on it, calls to attention Crosier’s role in the bombing raids over Berlin, Germany. According to the article, the London Daily Sketch of February 23, 1944 carried a 12-square-inch photograph of Crosier and had this to say about her: “The girl who knows ‘The Gen.’ She is Lt. Carlotta Crosier, U.S. Women’s Army corps, operations watch officer at Eighth Air Force H.Q. On her accuracy depends much of the co-ordination that sends U.S. planes out on attacks. When her chief, Major-General Jimmy Doolittle, asks: ‘How many bombers will we be able to put up tomorrow?’ she supplies the answer.”
Another newspaper article, handwritten with the year of 1945, noted in its headline then-Capt. Crosier “Continues as Watch Officer” and indicated she was among the WACs “contributing considerably toward the successful completion of air attacks against Nazi Europe.” These women kept a constant check on each air mission as it was flown and kept records and plans for future information. Crosier specifically informed generals and other officers who planned air operations on the progress and reports of the current missions and prepared them for any emergencies in which information must be relayed to the proper channels.
Yet another newspaper article dates presumably from about the spring or summer of 1945, as it states Crosier had returned home to Penn Yan after two and a half years of service. Then, she didn’t expect to be out of uniform until almost another year. Indeed, she was discharged as Maj. Crosier in January 1946. Upon her return, she noted how her with bombing missions over enemy territory turned into such missions as dropping supplies over the Netherlands. Then, with little work for the WACs to do but wait to go home, Crosier volunteered to assist with the filming of a documentary about what she and her fellow women did in the European theater. In fact, she was in Paris the day the French held a parade to celebrate V-E, or Victory in Europe, Day.
In a V-mail letter home that was printed in a 1943 report in The Chronicle-Express, Crosier commented on receiving the hometown newspaper overseas and finding fellow soldiers with ties to Penn Yan and the Finger Lakes region. She also seemed to sum up the mission of her fellow women during the war.
“I believe I’m very fortunate in being over here and all of the Wacs are hard at work now and doing a fine job,” she wrote. “I’m very proud of the girls in my command. We are attached to the air force and are very proud of that. … I was very fortunate in being given an opportunity of going up in a Flying Fortress and it sure was a wonderful ship. As you know we are all part of the army of the United States and are regularly G.I.’s now.”

International Museum Day

Few places in our world are more educational than museums. After all, where else could we hope to see so many pieces of actual history that tell so many stories about our ancestors? From prehistoric spears to Egyptian mummies, from ancient Greek sculptures to medieval armor, and from the first radio to the first planes used in war during WWI, museums have it all. Unfortunately, there are millions of people with direct access to museums that have never even visited one.
There are many possible reasons for this–perhaps they think just looking at old things would be boring, or perhaps they are unaware just how different the world was in the past and see no reason to take an interest. Whatever the reason for not taking advantage of the incredible amount of tangible knowledge museums offer, and regardless of age, International Museum Day is the time to invest in education in its most fascinating form.
Many people may ask why they would invest in something like International Museum Day when modern technology can give them all the answers that they may need. Well, to answer that fairly, all you need to do is a little Google search.
Nowadays, if you need to find an answer to something, you can surely just jump online and get it right? Well, yes, but what you need to realize is that the answer you get is quite possibly wrong.

As the years have gone by, we have been blessed to live in a society where while technology seems to want to take over, there have been certain things that are now considered cool that were once reserved for a very target demographic.
While the numbers of participants were slowly climbing almost a decade ago, over the last five years, the numbers are climbing at an even more rapid rate. When we look at this, we may ask ourselves why, and the truth is simple, history is now something that is classed as cool.
Yes, we may live in a technology-driven society, but it seems that the more technology has reigned over the world, people have started to gravitate towards the things that connect them to a world they are scared of losing.
Today, there are more visitors to museums all over the world than ever before, and more than this, there are now more people studying history at degree level than at any point in history.
Now, it may be possible that this is just a point where geek chic is in, and students want to seem more cultural and in touch with the world, but if we stop for a brief moment, could it not be possible that International Museum Day has played a small role in helping entire new generations fall in love with history once again?
The truth may, in fact, be both, but one thing we must remember is that While it may not be as popular as some days, International Museum Day is something that should be held in high importance.
The further we move forward, the more we leave behind, and with all of the things that are now long behind us, we need something to help us remember where we have been, that way, we can take the journey ahead of us with more confidence.
How to celebrate International Museum Day
There is no better way to celebrate International Museum Day than to take a trip down to a nearby museum, either alone, with friends, or even your children if you feel they are old enough to appreciate the place. Depending on where you live, the museums you might be closest to could be ones connected with anything from farming to fashion, from astronomy to archaeology, from art to natural history. If it turns out that the museums in your immediate area are not ones that would interest you, maybe you could consider a day trip to a nearby city to visit a museum better suited to your interests? Carpooling with a friend or two will make the trip cheaper and very possibly more interesting.
Another thing to think about is how well you tolerate crowds. International Museum Day is an increasingly popular worldwide event, so it is quite probable that many of the larger and better-known museums will be pretty crowded on this day, especially since many museums do not charge an entrance fee then. If you do not feel like standing in long lines to see every single thing or having to maneuver your way through crowds of people, paying more attention to not stepping on anyone’s shoes than the objects on exhibition, you may want to visit the museum of your choice a few days before or after International Museum Day.
On weekdays, museums are often quiet places where one can come to study our ancestors’ lifestyles and contemplate what motivated them to behave and develop as they did. However you decide to celebrate Museum day, don’t let this opportunity to find out about the history of the human race go to waste!

LESSON 3: TECHNIQUES IN SELECTING AND ORGANIZING INFORMATION
In today's information-rich society, selecting and organizing information are crucial abilities. With the growth of digital content and the overwhelming amount of data available, the ability to choose and arrange information efficiently is critical for efficient and effective decision-making and communication. Sometimes, we are overwhelmed with a variety of information from books, newspapers, magazines, and the internet. We also have to come up with effective ways of processing the information we gathered. Hence, one important ingredient to successful reading and writing is our ability to generate, select, and organize ideas. These can be done through brainstorming, making a graphic organizer, outlining, and many more.
With the ever-increasing volume of information available, it's critical to have effective procedures in place to manage information overload efficiently and strategically. Brainstorming is a powerful approach for addressing this difficulty because it includes producing a list of techniques for selecting and organizing information. It is the practice of writing down certain themes gathered from various sources. It entails documenting and developing a list of subjects. Cubing, free writing, listing, mapping, and researching are the five brainstorming strategies.
Making a graphic organizer is another efficient method of organizing information. Graphic organizers are powerful tools that can assist users in organizing information successfully. This includes, A t-chart, concept map, main idea web, Venn diagram, and sequence chart. They are visual representations that help students link and organize ideas, concepts, or facts in a systematic and coherent way. It use visual components such as diagrams, charts, and maps to make difficult information more accessible and understandable. As a visual learner, visual representation allows me to perceive the relationships between different concepts or ideas, which aids in my comprehension and retention of the material.
Outlining is another useful method for arranging information. It entails establishing a hierarchical structure of primary concepts, subtopics, and supporting details in an orderly manner. Outlining, I've discovered, helps to build a logical structure for arranging material. It establishes a clear and orderly framework for presenting information by organizing concepts in a hierarchical order, with primary ideas at the top level and supporting elements indented beneath them. This logical framework makes it easy for both the writer and the reader to follow the flow of thoughts and understand the relationships between various pieces of information.
In a nutshell, information organization is crucial in numerous areas of our lives. It enhances communication, encourages education, boosts professional productivity, and promotes personal time management. Organized information enables us to process, store, and retrieve knowledge more efficiently, resulting in greater decision-making and overall success. As a student, I do believe that effective information-organization strategies are a necessary skill that will benefit me in several areas of my educational experience and even as an individual.

Nowadays, acquiring and disseminating information worldwide is very easy because of online platforms. There are a lot of ways to spread information from one person to another, but on our generation, it will just need one click to avail such information or escalate information. You're mistaken if you view it as an advantage for the benefit of mankind because not all information that you see on the Internet is credible. Hence, there is a lot of wrong information escalating on the Internet that affects us as a person interms of behaviour, beliefs, perception, and many more. That's why there is a need for the people to be media and information literate to avoid the spreading of wrong information and acquiring such misinformation. Being a media and information literate person enables you to conceptualize information that includes the ability to analize information and access factual information. It also enables you to evaluate and produce information for the peoples best interest and prevent the misuse of such information that you found raw on the Internet. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) defines it as the "set of competencies to search, critically evaluate, use and contribute information and media content wisely; knowledge of one’s rights online; understanding how to combat online hate speech and cyberbullying; understanding of the ethical issues surrounding the access and use of information; and engage with media and ICTs to promote equality, free expression, intercultural/interreligious dialogue, peace, etc." (UNESCO, 2016). Thus, it is endeed to be media and information literate.
